When 40 Niners head coach Kyle Shanahan was the offensive coordinator there. Then he made a stop with the Patriots before coming to the 40 Niners. Head coach Couch in hand, was asked of his expectations forced to new and whether or not I'll be ready for Sunday. You know he's been in the zoo meetings, washing all the installs and stuff and we threw him out there today and didn't make any mistakes was able to line up with confidence and most promo works out. It is good to see him today. I have seen him for a while, and I'm glad to have him here and I know if we go on five, we won't hesitate to have him out there and I know I'll be ready. The 40. Niners will need him if they do put him out there, obviously because they will be without tied and George Kittle. He sprained his knee last week in Game number one. Two Seattle Seahawks earn Player of the Week honors after dominant Week 1 win
"Maybe, the most impressive team of the day was Seattle. Russell Wilson was thirty one of thirty, five, Oh my God for three, hundred, twenty, two, yards, four touchdowns no picks. That's ridiculous. Thirty one of thirty five metcalf picked up where he left off big day and they destroyed Atlanta and and I think that NFC west is just going to be fascinating all year long Seattle's not going to have a home field advantage. You're not GonNa have that twelfth man thing they got going out there but man, they're they're good and they're a veteran team I I think Seattle. Really is going to be a very difficult to deal with this year that quarterback may be in the prime of his career right now what year nine for him it is e was so special in that game. He was so good. It's just he's. Become. So, much fun to watch play fast the operates and how he's really gotten such a feel for the game. Become what Sean mcvay would call an extension of the offensive coordinator He's in control. It was also game that Matt Ryan threw for four, hundred, fifty they were down I mean, Julio Jones, at Fifty Ridley at one, hundred, thirty gauge to gauge at and fourteen. They, Have Hayden hearst they IRV Smith I think Atlantic could be good. Defense has been a problem for a while which is weird because it's Dan Quinn to think about that. which was Laying the first coordinator when the seahawks became. Great. Exactly.

"So you know, I don't even believe in the whole asterisk thing like It is what it is. Vacated Championships mean nothing to me. I mean like that, that I still remember the teams that win and the Astros thing for me will go away as well. It just will. Like I said, Pete rose in the Hall of Fame. Well, ideo, but I also want the Reds to win it all, which won't happen, But if the Reds do win it, it will feel different to me than the other three that I've witnessed as a reds fan 75 76 90. It will be glorious. It'll be different is all I'm saying. I say hats off to everybody scrambling to put together a makeshift season like this in all schools, and I was really critical of it at first, but I'm like, You know what this has turned out, OK, but now just when I get used to no fans I'm just wishing there were fans there to really crank up. You know the excitement and the buzz during every one of these players. Sounds like there's not gonna be any fans at Soldier Field through Ah, another course of the whole NFL season, the mayor's holding firm, and so is the governor. I tell you watching the Bengals and the Browns last night with a sprinkling of fans, you know you got you got a minor Littlefield. By the way, that was you see the brawl and even with 10,000 fans, they're still abroad Families, people come on. But that was a very entertaining game. Joe Burrow against Baker Mayfield lived up to the hype. It's good to see Mayfield with Head coach slash offensive coordinator. Ah young guy who knows how to roll him out has all kinds of great packages for him to throw its amazing at what a coach in a game plan Khun dude for a quarterback right? Because last year Freddie Kitchens basically had him standing back there. Just that was the weirdest higher in the world or promotion. If you will, A I mean, they thought it was gonna work because he was the offensive coordinator Play Caller of the year before, when Baker As a rookie looked pretty good, but last night you've got a great running game. So when I use it to your advantage and use it t kind of set some things. I'll tell you, honey and job. They're like interchangeable. They looked the same back. They have the same moves of the same size. And so everybody is fresh in and out in and out Bangles. Joe Burrow is absolutely the real deal Obvious. I agree. He is a stud. LeBron's even tweet them dirty. He looks to me like I said earlier, Mark. The greatest compliment I could give a young player is that He looks like he belongs like Joe Carroll. Looks like he belongs. I think the kid Jalen Johnson for the Bears the corner the rookie corner who had some good some bad and his first art. He looks like he belongs. Yeah, they look like veterans Burrows in command. You can't you can't shake him. But he's going to get killed. Get some people protecting him and a jade green little alligator arms. They're given up in the end zone. Come on, go back and prevent what could have been an interception. Thes guys got to come back for the ball. They got to help him. But did you see him? Roll out a couple times and throw on the run and Just hit those guys on the sideline with double coverage and that those air pro throws those air you are Tommy pro throws Go Look it up. You know there there. I was very impressed with him. The Freud, 62 Times and And not throw any picks. It's it's It's a team that is very far away, but you've got the most important part. Just don't screw it up. Just remember Troy Aikman almost got killed had a horrible year and they go on to win three Super Bowls. When we come back, we'll break down Bears and giants get your feel on. Who do you think these bears are? Will do that with Marquis when we come back on ESPN one goes home for Sports playoffs. Western Conference finals Game one. "Glad to be back. It's a beautiful night. It's football. It's Friday night in the state of Michigan, Catholic Central were at the helm and boys this place ready to go here. Babette's The Wonderful athletic director here has set up the elm the way it should be. And they're ready for football. Detroit Catholic Central. I'm fired up to beer. We've got a great matchup tonight. Couple teams that come at us from different ways. But both teams brings of firepower and some funk into this match up. You look at it. And at one point you'd save me even talking to the coaching staff on the other side because Odin coached against the shamrocks, and once that was back in 2003, That was a really good shamrocks team. They ended up Going to the state championship game That was first game of the year is what the panic Silverdome believer not and he's like, Well, you look at this team. I'm expecting to see a £250 fullback and running the wham at you, but it's spread all the sun in the last couple of years. It sure has ride Odin, the longtime PS L coach, it took his act north to Harper Woods High School. He's been there now entering its fourth year, and yet he said, Hey, back in 2003. We went to the Silverdome played in that prep kickoff Classic CC pounded the rock the lamb all over all these things, he says. I look at film of Catholic Central Nicey spread. I see Pass. I see. You know, a new offensive coordinator that has a passing game and Kevin Glenn. It's come on over from Oak Park, so they have a lot of pieces. Now a Catholic central, They have a lot of depth, and they've got an offensive passing scheme. That's a little bit different. Of your father's CC. You look at the season last year. Certainly disappointing for Catholic Central. They were right there in some of those games. Oh, mean beat Martin Luther King. The first game of the 24 22.

"There is a tremendous amount Familiarity between these two teams in spite of the fact that I'm sure Saints fans are sitting there going. We never play the Raiders and we don't play the Rangers very often, but in the coaching staffs of this football team There is a lot of people from the New Orleans Saints that have found their way to the Las Vegas Raiders and a lot of understanding of how the Raiders are going to deal with our offense. And that is simply a combination of things. One. There are several coaches on the Raiders staff that have been with the New Orleans Saints and two We just watched the Las Vegas Raiders play the Saints offense. Joe Brady doesn't know anything other than the Saints offense. He brought the Saints offense toe. L s u with him. He was there for one season and now he's the offensive coordinator of the Carolina Panthers. You don't know a whole lot else. He's using a lot of the same stuff from New Orleans now. Does he know it's like the proverb? Right? I'll teach you everything. I know. I don't teach everything that I know. Right? But when you turn on film and you watch last week's game You watch. 75% of the New Orleans Saints playing the Las Vegas Raiders. You see the formations? You see the movements? You see the personnel groupings changing. You see a lot of the same route concepts. You see a lot of the same place. Which I think is very interesting. On top of that. You've got guys like Johnnie Morton. On the coaching staff for the Las Vegas Raiders, who has spent not one but 2 10 years in which the New Orleans Saints under Sean Peyton, you have a guy like Frank Smith. Who spent four seasons in the offensive line room with the New Orleans Saints. There's a there's obviously Sean and Jon Gruden and their tree being as it is, and Sean, you know, coaching underneath Jon Gruden and him bringing him into the NFL, you know, for the first time. Obviously familiarity and there's a friendship there, but there's a lot of when you When you kind of look at what these two teams are working with. Here. You've got one regular season game. You've got no preseason games. You've got a new coordinator in Carolina that's running your offense in with the Panthers, and now you get to turn on film and see how they react to the things that we do. Very interesting. It's not going to win any games, right? It's not going to lose any games. Well, he'll buy with preparation. It certainly does help you with preparation, So I just think it's interesting and it's certainly Mohr than work. Then we're used to scene. And there are some other connections. There's players, obviously that have been there. Guys like Jared Cook and Octavius Murray. There's there's obviously you have somebody in Dennis Allen, whose first head coaching opportunity was with the Raiders. Um But you know all that stuff is kind of, you know, it is what it is. That happens weekly that there's those types of connections. But to have that number of coaches on another staff that spent significant time with you is pretty unusual, so it will be a little bit interesting. Deuce. Here's what I want to get into. When we come back. I want to talk about this running back. And I want your impressions of the young man. Josh Jacobs, whose outstanding last season as a Raider certainly gets off to a good start leading the NFL right now in your charge average yards from scrimmage after last week, three touchdown game and quite honestly, the offense in Las Vegas runs through Josh Jacobs. We'll talk about him and how the Saint's defense sets up and matches up against that front. Lots to come here. You're listening to fans. The pros on WWL. Now another traffic.

We kind of cut the time you know you always you know there's discretionary week and things like that. You're not able to get with them. And we certainly did all of that, but during the I think all the zoom meetings that we've done the past. You know whatever timeframe was. We were allowed to write really us to slow down and kind of be very detail oriented and are teaching approach, and sometimes we would have meetings where we would only get through to replays, and that was fantastic because you were meeting so many times a week for a certain amount of time that you weren't rushing to get to get on the field of practices. You were really not bound by any constrain of. You know getting on the field that makes sense so you could really really slow down the teaching of it and I thought. In. Very, difficult times, that was a positive aspect of something that hasn't slowed down. Because it never will slow down is recruiting, so you are! You're new to Eugene. You're new to a program you're asked in. You. Know I'm sure it's difficult enough to sort of hit the ground running with something. That's at least at first unfamiliar, but you're convincing kids to come play for you. Complain a system that they haven't really fully. Fully seen with the personnel that you now have how his recruiting been in this in this new world, obviously Oregon has really done a great job bus far, but know for you personally. What does that experience been like? Let's been fantastic and and I remember a few years ago. The big question was can the guy from Pennsylvania come the Mississippi and recruit Yup. We responded with three top twenty five classes and. The Classes school history so to me. There's you start with how much positive? You know. The city, the school you know the success coach Chris Ball, you know the offense scheme. You know winning the Rosebowl. Finish number five in the country then. Certainly our track record of success in the system over the years I think he combined all those things and. It makes Oregon a very variable very very. Attractive destination for kids who were looking all right final question. What have been your impressions in the short time of Eugene Oregon your new home town you. Have you found meals you like? Have you found parks to walk a dog? You know, have you? Have you found at least some sort of routine in a very strange time with a with a brand new job? You're begging for routine. Accuser reduced like Groundhog Day. It's I mean it's incredibly temperate. I mean. You're situated Eugene that Yoshida's forty five minutes to the to the West you know there's there's mountains and trails and kind of outdoorsy stuff, which comes from Pittsburgh wasn't really kind of my. NFL: Brady's house call didn't violate league rules
"Tom Brady is not in trouble for going over to his offensive. Coordinator's House Byron Left. Which who? Tom went into the wrong house in. Tampa and I guess some of the Front Office people in the NFL were like. Hey you can't be there with your coaches. You're not allowed to do that and so tom I guess is not in trouble. What about breaking and entering thing that I I don't if you open the door and walk in. Report: Philadelphia Eagles Won’t Hire Offensive Coordinator
"And it from an eagle standpoint does anybody feel good about this set up here where there's no offense of coordinator what I'm really starting to worry about here is I thought that one of the great strengths of Doug Peterson was that he was flexible that he was a listener that he was taking input that it was a guy who were his quarterback could walk over to in a super ball on fourth down and suggest the play and Doug rolls with it that's what I loved about dog what worries me now is Doug is a bit of a control freak and the fact that you're not gonna be calling plays may be your input is gonna be taking all that seriously this job as an office a quarter is not that appealing like this wasn't the plan all along clearly if that was the plan you would just elevated couple these guys away it so you don't know what I'm talking about we'll get to the list of one second here but if you're not sure what I'm talking about Doug Peterson will continue to call plays and be the the head coach there will not be an offense of coordinator named Jeff stoutly who's the offense of line coach and do Staley who's already running backs coach and assistant head coach are give me the run game coordinators press Taylor who was the quarterbacks coach last year is still the quarterbacks coach but he's also the passing game coordinator now they've also brought on rich asking around well who was a former offensive coordinator for the Broncos and a fire danger brighter they brought him in as well to add to the offense of staff but this to me reeks of guys we really wanted to talk to didn't have interest in talking to us or we were blocked in the case of my calf got and which left us with the pool of guys that weren't all that impressive so we didn't pull the trigger on any of them so we're gonna stay Pat with what we have and just elevate these guys I don't like it I don't have a good feeling for another good sense Ford I wanted somebody to comment I know its Geiger Rollo and and and brighter from the outside but I wanted somebody to come in from the outside to have a strong voice without Peterson and it doesn't appear that that's gonna
The Chiefs Win the Super Bowl and the Niners Blow It, With Cousin Sal
"Did the chiefs witness or did the niners lose this. And if the answer is both what is your percentage split. Okay well it has to be both. It has to be both because it's no coincidence. That now mahomes five and in games that he's been down double digits so you got that but it's also no coincidence that Kyle Shanahan in his last fourth quarter Super Bowl drives that he's called. Yeah as gone three and fumble six and pont. I'm stealing this off the Internet him. Sorry for whoever did this foreign pont five point three and pont seven turnover downs to an interception. ooh though I wanNA say San Francisco some as a sixty forty San Francisco right there is that fair. Well you left out the part that in his last two fourth quarter overtimes. Where's the offensive coordinator for the Falcons Against Patriots? The other time outscored forty six to nothing. Yeah I look at it this way you know. I had the big bet for plus three seventy five before the playoffs on San Francisco. It's twenty ten. They get a pick. There's twelve minutes left. They have a phenomenal running game that ends up finishing the game running for seven yards a carry. Yep like twenty twenty one carries the one hundred forty plus yards. I felt like the game was over. And I know Mahomes is on the other side line and they've come back twice but they have literally literally the perfect team in the league to run out a game like that up ten with more with momentum with everything you want and the play action was working And they had really figured out a way to control the pace and when you look at those last three drives it felt like that she switches sending the house and and like screen passes. Were there just all kinds of things that were false starts in the manner side not running when they should have one Bad plays as and I. I don't I never liked to use the word choke with sports because these guys are much better than we are but they've really blew it. That is one of in one of the all time and we blew it super bowl losses. In my opinion I thought they right. They kept their foot off the gas and first of all it happened at the beginning. The end of the first half an in what happened with that time management there will chant ended. DidN'T WANNA use a timeout. Looked like he was just happy content to go in the locker room ten ten yet but then gets a first down like to the forty about right and then as timeouts and then the drives fizzles but who knows if you start that drive. What one one twenty seven instead of like thirty seven? It's a different story. So yes we hold that thought right but so it's a key moment for a couple reasons. One they don't call time out before the chiefs chiefs punt so another forty seconds runoff by the time they get it. There's a little under a minute. Left there on their twenty. I was watching it thinking. They're so afraid of the chiefs chiefs. They they don't even want to leave a scenario where mahomes might get the ball back with thirty seconds left to reverse but at the same time if you look at the way they played pretty much this entire Gabe it was really kinda playing not to lose you. Know they had feel goes over and over again and they had a lot of like third and five and third and four zero where they you know they technically. If you're really going for the jugglers down territory at least a couple times. They're always happy to settle settled for three. The fourth in two was pretty egregious in the second half just because I don't know that I never felt like they try to grab the game by its throat. And and you need points to beat the chiefs team but when you think about the first forty eight minutes of that game it could have gone better for them because they didn't try to grabbed game by the throat but they're still sitting there with the lead up ten with the ball with the running game. That's gashing the chiefs and I think it's a colossal. We blew it lost. Like even if you go back to the Seattle pats game where Where the Malcolm Butler pick Seattle was still making plays to win that game? You know the pats came down. I'm from ten same way but Seattle is still like throwing haymakers back. They got that huge pass on the on the crazy long ball down the field that set up the Lynch played. You know I I just felt like the niners really rolled over the last ten minutes. And that's before we get to the defensive side of thing. It was really rough. I kind of in disbelief. That they'd when Super Bowl. I know you're bummed but I'm thinking about this from the other way. I think like I think he'd wake up tomorrow. Morning more bummed if Jimmy G. drove his team down the field this guy you got a second round pick forward we added for and won that game. You would've won money but all the Jimmy Jeez better than Brady. What's Brady doing? Brady inserts himself. In commercials is yeah. The Patriots are pathetic. I think we would have heard that would have been the narrative if the forty niners at one that starts a you know either way. I think we're going to start talk about starting earning a dynasty and I feel like we'll get we'll talk about odds next year's odds men and I'm sure but Patrick Mahomes is starting that right when you have a quarterback that just comes comes back. It doesn't really matter what's going on. Seems to not get flustered at all. Yeah that's a scary scary team. But I wanNA give the chiefs a little credit their running game the the biggest Sucker bat was like the forty niners minus thirty three and a half yards. I think it was thirty. Six thirty three right in there over the Chiefs it ended up one forty one to one twenty nine San Francisco and that's misleading. Because Patrick Mahomes in one of the worst Super Bowl bad had beats I can remember had forty four yards before he kneeled down has over on the twenty nine and a half for loss. Fifteen yard three kneel. Downs ended up with twenty twenty nine. So they really did have more rushing yards and San Francisco and you never ever would've thought that and that that's why they won the game that and the third and fifteen play I thought in the fourth quarter. It was why they want. I WANNA go back later to all the things the niners did wrong. And you're right. We should praise the chiefs. They had an awesome come for behind victory. They think were what the fifth team to win a super bowl. Where at some point in the playoffs they were down ten? I remember seeing that that tweet somewhere hold on. Let me find that ten three times. Scott Scott Caz Mar he said Only four out of fifty three super bowl. Oh winners trailed by ten in the playoffs until tonight. Nineteen seventy six raiders. Down Eleven to New England. The Sugar Sugar Bear Ham at the game. The first horrible horrible football US ever had two thousand one patriots snow game. Some people got Tuck rule game called Snow Game. Two Thousand Fourteen Patriots Seattle Two thousand hasn't Sixteen Patriots Atlanta Down Nineteen the Patriots. Were somehow involved all four times. This happened until Nice until today. So now we're talking five out of fifty three where they've trailed by ten plus and the chiefs became the fifth team to do it. So there you go so I They deserve it. They're the best. I think they're the best right. Ravens got picked off bad job by them chiefs to the best

Super Bowl XXXIX Recap: Patriots vs. Eagles
"The game we most fans remember. Andy Reid foremost is super bowl. Thirty nine and especially how the game finished up in the last six minutes. But let's set things up here just a little bit coming into Super Bowl all thirty nine. Both the Patriots and Eagles were the best teams in their conference. Both number one seeds both had tremendous seasons. The Patriots went fourteen and two that season season as they were looking for their third super bowl title in four years. Obviously Tom Brady was just beginning his run as the greatest quarterback of all time but he'd already established himself as a two time superbowl champion. And so the odds were stacked against the eagles a little bit in the Super Bowl although the eagles were far and away the best team team in the NFC that season having gone thirteen and three really they were essentially a one loss team. They lost to the Pittsburgh steelers in the middle of the season but they had clinched the number for one seat in the conference with two games left in the season and basically didn't play anybody in the final two games and that's why they went thirteen and three. The Eagles probably could have been a fifteen in one team if they'd actually played their starters in the final two games of the season but thirteen and three is nothing to sneeze at and it was certainly good enough to get them the number one seed in the playoffs The Eagles defeated the Minnesota Vikings rather handily in the NFC divisional round and then in the NFC championship game. As you heard me talk about on the last edition of BG and memories when we took a look back at the ten greatest moments in Eagles NFC championship game. History when they dispatch the Falcons pulling away in the second in half winning that game. Twenty seven to ten on New England also had a pretty easy time in the postseason. They won their divisional round game against the Indianapolis Colts. It's twenty two three and then they won the AFC title against the steelers. Forty one to twenty seven. Bill Belichick Charlie. Weis the offensive coordinator at that time for New England Oakland and on the side. Of course you had Andy Reid calling the plays and Jim Johnson The defensive coordinator at the Blitz Happy Defensive Coordinator one of the big story lines. The the biggest story line going into Super Bowl thirty nine was of course the health of terrel owens who was hurt against the Dallas cowboys a few weeks before the end of the season He had A. He broke his leg on a horse collar. Tackle that has now been deemed illegal because of that hit but as the game started getting closer it started to appear as though Teo Jio would be able to get on the field and Tara loans for the Eagles in two thousand and two thousand four was the difference. He took the eagles from being a very very good team. Urine in your out to an almost unbeatable team That season in fourteen games really was just thirteen games because he was hurt early in that game against the cowboys he caught seventy any seven passes for twelve hundred yards and fourteen touchdowns for the eagles that season for the first time in his career. Donovan mcnabb had a true number one receiver seaver to throw the ball to but the eagles offense performed quite well whether well without Tara loans in the two playoff games but to beat the Patriots it was clear the eagles goals. We're GONNA need him and he managed to get. He managed to get back in time six weeks after surgery to repair his broken right ankle. He was on the the field for the start of Super Bowl. Thirty nine Donovan. mcnabb had his best season. An Eagle in two thousand and four mostly because terrel owens was on the outside and he and mcnabb was outstanding in two playoff wins against the Vikings and the Falcons mcnabb had always struggled in those NFC title game but he played very well against Atlanta Atlanta. One or the other storylines that Freddie Mitchell was running his mouth. He came into the game talking a lot of smack about safety Rodney Harrison telling Harrison that he he was gonna have something for him and then in the game you know Freddie Mitchell caught one pass which late in the fourth quarter and Harrison had Two interceptions as we'll get to here in just Dominica and of course the Patriots were looking to officially become a dynasty. They had beaten the rams had upset. The Rams in the Super Bowl three years before they had failed to get back to the super bowl the year after that. But in two thousand three or just after the two thousand three season they beat the Carolina Panthers and one of the most underrated super bowls in NFL NFL history. And we're looking for their third title in four years. Andy Reid looking for that first title after finally getting the Eagles back to the Super Bowl for the first time since nineteen eighteen eighty so that was the setup as the teams gathered on the field in Jacksonville Florida for Super Bowl. Jason Garrett joins Giants as new offensive coordinator
"Yeah I got a new job Jerry Jones is right he told us that Jason Garrett will be coaching in the NFL come next season and in fact he will be doing just that he's been hired by Joe judge and the New York Giants to be there all offensive coordinator we had a great day together you know you know I didn't know Joe real well been around about a couple different occasions I good conversations with them really good football conversations and now he and I know a lot of the same people I work for coach saving you work for coach David coaches always said such great things about Jo and so many other people that he's been around that I've been around said the same thing Jason Garrett on the giants in the huddle podcast and he was eager to make comments right away I'm happy for him I think as much as the Dallas Cowboys needed a fresh start and they're thrilled about their new head coach Mike McCarthy Jason Garrett needed something fresh and new as well I I tease the bunch up before that the cowboys actually made the announcement but my hash tag was free Jason Garrett let him go do something else let him go work in a different capacity although it is interesting right that he stays in the NFC east I thought the board to be really humorous why the giants though that was the question that he was that's right off the top just a first class organization and you you think about the history and tradition the New York Giants franchise in and what the merits of build the what the tissues of bill and all the great teams all the great coaches all the great players will get a part of this organization throughout its history and you know when you're playing this organization like I was four years you feel that Jason Garrett the new offense of coordinator who gets to work with none other than Daniel Jones interesting to hear what giants fans think about having chasing gear at again with inside the organization now jump to their often through coordinator spot where he was so maligned even after callin more to go over the plate calling full painting all the often whoa that lets is beyond as the the Dallas Cowboys had a really good off into season that was not the reason why they didn't end up by winning the end of season getting back to the playoffs in the stats for Jack NZ Kelly it don't tell you the whole story but their office of numbers were better than a good portion of what we saw from the yeah the rest of the NFL Jack was over four thousand yards as the Ellie and continues to do what it is that he's paid to do and yet still a lot of people pointing to Jason Garrett because the often didn't do enough well now here is going to be working with the second year quarterback in New York in Daniel Jones I want to start by and really what Joe said and in its introductory press conference you know I have an outsider's perspective on the giant a great respect for the organization great respect for the players on the team that would compete against but again it's it's coming from the outside I can't wait to get on the inside and and start to work with some of these guys and you know you mentioned Daniel Jones we thought a lot of coming out of college we weren't in the market for a quarterback it in the first round the year that he came out at the same time you go through that evaluation process and you know anybody who was around him in our organization with the cowboys just thought the world of does it sound excited I mean for sure most of the questions that he's been answering over the past few months a bit about his job status and about why the cowboys were under achieving but still he felt rejuvenated yes like he's really looking forward to this

Broncos Finalizing Deal to Make Pat Shurmur New Offensive Coordinator
"Well we just talk to my class are brokers insider who told us that the deal is done with that tactic Schirmer to be the new see for the Denver Broncos official press release from the team hopefully coming sometime before the end of the week big al with Schirmer being the new offense of coordinator what do you see as the pros and cons for this this young this young offense with the very young rookie quarterback is gonna be going into your to what I'm looking for are the things that that you can give a team and that's easy to roles and I always talk about this because I believe that that's the key to winning football games in this league how can you create an easy throw a one on one getting the guy wide open like we saw Devine to Adam's last night plan for the Packers you know the Packers go with the heavy formation they run a play that look like it's going to be a post but it then it turns into a corner is a seven right and then you look up and you say all my goodness the guy has a football it's one on one coverage he makes one guy miss and any out runs the coverage that's it easy to roll okay it's not fit the ball in the window it's not a drop back play act soon getting a guide you know own a seventeen yard dig route it's none of those things it's making the girls that the good players make to wide open guys but you have to design those plays for those guys to be wide open and the quarterback shouldn't be surprised when a wide open and when they're not wide open take the ball and run it that's what the good teams in the NFL do that's how you win football games in this business by getting your quarterback easy throws that you can feel good about and we didn't do that especially not against the Kansas City Chiefs are we rich gang real and I hate to see guys getting fired trust me it's it's not it's it's you know nobody wants to see that I wish there was a way that he could have stayed on and work with the quarterbacks something of that nature but maybe it's maybe it's too muddy if he's in Rome but you know it just we just have to have a change in and once again the greatest throws in the NFL aren't necessarily the ones that are forty M. fifty yards down the field like we saw this weekend but we also saw we also saw Patrick my homes we were out to the running back I think it was Williams out of the backfield on what looked like to be a six star pass it ended up being a seventeen yard touchdown the design of the play against the covers that was played was perfect and the guy had a free run to the end zone I mean those are the plays that you expect out of a great offensive coordinator and that's certainly what I'm looking forward Pat Shurmur who spent a lot of time with Andy Reid and Philadelphia I take it I think he was there for at least ten seasons with Andy Reid going from offense of line coach tidy and coats two quarterbacks coach so he understands the offense it's complete and of course in that Minnesota offense that's what we have to go last because that's where he was calling plays exclusively you look at that team and what they were able to do and the way that they brought on Adam Thielen out of no where to become a star well you know that he understands what kind of receipt what the receivers need to look like and not how they need to run there are so many different ways that we can look at this as be an improvement to be an improvement to what we had last year in part of it believe it or not Joe Joe is evaluating players for the upcoming draft that's a big big part of it because trust me there is a common formula to run in this offense and really make it work Stefon Diggs is the guy that blows the doors off of the defense is for the Minnesota Vikings before we and you look at back at Pat Shurmur when he was with Andy Reid it was the son Jackson now what is a in to read as he has he'll explosive wires see what to add to re kill who blows the doors off so I'm almost guaranteed you I'm almost guaranteeing you were going to find a guy that can blow the doors off of the defense in round one or two of this year's NFL draft that's how you make that all things work do you have a guy that can a workhorse guy who can catch the balls and make it happen that's called sudden but we need one of those guys that is scary says that blows the doors off the defense the evaluation process of what that guy looks like I trust Pat Shurmur more than I do John Elway to

"Ninety eight through two thousand and that would have been what Wade Phillips era, right? Yeah. Right. Went to Carolina. And then came back he became bills offensive coordinator in in two thousand eight and was the offensive coordinator at the start of the two thousand nine season. I was thinking about this. And I knew took a little bit you, of course, cross paths for them here as well. Steve you played against he Mr. played. Yeah. We were contemporaries, he's he was, you know, six years older than me six seven years older than I was. And and we had obviously had mutual friends. He was in Cincinnati with boomer. And those in Frank Reich was real close friends. We we cross paths played golf a few times over the years, not not one once we quit playing. I you know, he was here in buffalo. I, you know, obviously cross paths with them there too. So good guy got the normal little bit when he was coaching here. And the second time around offense coordinator, it was so weird two thousand nine preseason dicta rounds the head coach the bills struggle in their fourth and final preseason game. Be Detroit right Detroit in the stadium here. They they had a rough day offensively. And the next day Friday essentially nine days before the season opens dictator on fires Turk Schoener. He fires is offensive coordinator nine days before the season opened in two thousand nine there was some there was some caution there, and I talked to Turk that day, and he had a couple of choice comments to make about what they wanted in the from the offense. And that didn't go very well. But just a good guy. I thought it always seemed to me he was made a good faith effort to do the best job. He could whether he was coaching quarterbacks or in charge of the offense. So sad day. And and a lot of guys around the league, you know, guy who coaches like he did. You know in Canadian league in the NFL played the NFL. Leaves behind a lot of former teammates who were thinking about them today..

"Exports subtle men and is your offensive coordinator, North Dakota state moving to the job as head coach. And I got some good news for an Esa bad news for you got you gotta premier job and also expect a national championship every year. It is unbelievable. What's happened in North Dakota state? And of course, she did it again yesterday. First of all, congratulations for another national championship. Bs Shaka's eastern Washington. I appreciate it. Thank you. You're exactly right expectations that NDSU are extremely high. But you know, you you said it to it's it's one of the premier programs in the country, and what an outstanding opportunity to become that coach United Marcus Williams Senator this week and he plays for the Chicago Bears now, but he played for North Dakota state, and he talked about the culture, and how seniors help patrol and create a culture because they don't let freshman slack off etcetera. You gotta meet the standard explain what the culture of bison football is right now. Well, it's a player driven and our seniors in in our upperclassmen do an unbelievable job of of of controlling the work ethic the mentality and it can continue to move us forward. And it's it's it's it's a when you have a one hundred five guys on the going all in the same direction. And as you guys know, and you've seen probably enough film. We're we're blue collar mentality football team. And some people say we're old school. I like to say that good school, and we still believe in playing great defense and running the football to be successful on Saturdays. Dave here. We got a text message knowing that you were coming up saying talk about the attendance at you had over ten thousand nine hundred people traveled. I go Texas for that game yesterday credible support for that program. Unbelievable. Our our crowd in our fan base is second to none. I've I've been fortunate to be here for five years. Iowa State and Iowa, and then I've been down to Frisco, Texas, four different times. And every time you're amazed at the number of people not just in the stadium. But that don't even get in the stadium, but go because of the tailgate scene in the and the and the fun and the tomato they have with the fans just being around the stadium. It's it's unbelievable. I heard yesterday that it was probably about eighty five percents Abidjan fans. And they were loud when they needed to be. And that's one of the great things about the fan bases. They are extremely intelligent fans. You got this quarterback name Houston stickle you've grown. And of course, you Carson Wentz as well before him. They're good friends. He's in Carson's, wedding and eastern stick played. When Carson was hurt before the national championship game. A few years be ended up forty nine in three ran for two and three for three yesterday. What what is it about him and his he appropriate? Why definitely think he's a pro prospect? There's no there's no question. He's when he's the best football player and FCS. You're the things that separate him from the others are the things that the fans and a lot of the people that just watch the games never see the detail. They put into his work in in the meeting rooms all day long in between classes trying to make sure that he is. Understands what the the opponents gonna do that day? The extra meeting time he has with coach Edberg getting involved with the the game plan. And I like this play this is this play. Or why don't we do this on this route? You know, he's a very intelligent young man that I think has a ton of upside is going to have a long career city. S news update another week has come and gone. A gophers for athletes. Yeah, I'm not. I'm not sure how we would compete. I think we have probably a few guys that fell through the cracks that are probably the same same level of some big ten players, but you know, that the discrepancy scholarships probably would be reflected in just the quantity of top level athletes. You got Robbie Grimsley and Hutchinson. There the beginning kid the tight end and the sproles looks like a pretty good player out of Cooper as well. Yeah. We've I think you guys you guys know how we rely on the state of Minnesota, especially the twin cities area for our recruiting base. And we'll we'll continue to to treat Minneapolis itself has a local area. But some of our best football players current and past have come from the state of Minnesota you'll you'll see a. College. Or one of our coaches down there routinely dry in the in the spring and the fall making sure we get the very best players out of that area. How many scholarship athletes can you have in your team? Are we we can have sixty three? Okay. That's what we could have to. We. We can have eighty five scholars athletes. We're a little bit different than FBI programs where we only have sixty three scholarships that we can give you up on eighty five. Yup. Yup. Yep. We we we do we don't. We don't have very many partial scholarship kids on our program. But yeah, we do have your ability to to, you know, go based on percentages versus a full ride before I give it back to sit. I want to read a tech. Nobody cares about North Dakota state except for family and friends of the players. Don't get a chance to see my text messages. Some of the most loyal listeners to the show are in the Fargo Moorhead area. And we have really good fans up in that part of the state. They like the gophers when they love. Their bison said glad. NFL players. NFL does sure why I think some sick will have different opportunity each participate in one of the all star games here. Coming up in a couple of weeks. We anticipate having the majority of the NFL teams attention his cO day this year. So he would be the number one prospect that we have a few other guys just because of the style of football that we play here. I think that in the NFL circle, I think they see NDSU players as well. Prepared to move make a move to the next level. Great example of that is is Nick DeLuca Chris board last year, both linebackers and NDSU that are now with the ravens and the Jaguars respectively. When did, you know once was a special quarterback when you got him Agassi, you like it when it comes to business when did you go? This guy's off the charts in terms of a prospect. Well, I came in I joined the NDSU staff and Carson has already been here, you know, from my conversations with coach climbing coach climate had already raped about him as a as a redshirt scout team quarterback about being the best quarterback that he had seen all year. And and it was he got on campus sailor. I got on campus and you see him play. She him control the offense. And again, his knowledge of what we did offense was off the chart and then a great leader as well. So much of the of these guys preparation. In their in their ability to play at a high level goes back to Randy quarterback coach, you know, Matt it's not only your players at the pros are looking at. They're looking at your your place. There was a great story in Sports Illustrated, maybe a month ago, and Kansas City, the talked about the they think some of the most creativity that they're seeing an all football is at the college level. And sometimes even have the lower college level would include you guys in your program was mentioned they had a play. I think in their playbook for two years the didn't run, but they got it directly off something they'd seen from one of your game. So you know, there everybody's noticing. I think as we continue to win. Our brand continues to grow ESPN has been great to us. We have a great relationship with them. We we get on television. You know, what we're on the ticker on the bottom of ESPN when we when we win. And so I think people do take a look at us. And then having guys like Carson are huge in our in our brand development as we move forward. Just when you're on the bottom when you win when else would you? What you know? But, but I hope you guys have a chance you climate Dr Monica weeks ago that it's so hard to national championship. Forget it when you win so many, but I hope everybody there yourself included are able to take a deep breath and enjoy all this fall. For sure. Guys, believe me. When when when when the clock is zero yesterday there it was it was a celebration on the football field and in every single one of those buys and fans stormed the field. And and it was a great scene. It's the way college football supposed to be and believe me, nobody here in Fargo or anyone related to the program is taking it for granted. Now, we know there's a lot of hard work and effort that went into this. And, you know, especially for our twenty four seniors we have this year to be able to finish their career fifteen and he's remarkable. Appreciate it very much. Congratulations on your new gig. I usually when I'm up there hunting, I stopped by some point in time. Then you guys got some great facilities up there. "Coach i mean it's interesting to see the balance i would like to see the giants go with an offense of guide to fix this offense even with the failures of macular david i would like to see the giants bring him a guy that with alive back at quarterback with ingram with how healthy odell beckham junior with a revamped offense of line were not everything is on the defence where i have an offense that i know is going to go out and give me 23 24 25 points per game and that's what i love and that's what i'm excited about the see what type of you said whether they go with the head coach a minded coach what type of offensive coordinator and six system that they would bring in and vice versa the head coach is an offensive minded coach and then you bring in defensive coordinator if you're going to do that that head coach whether it's an offense of culture defense one has to have the utmost confidence in net defensive coordinator in that offensive coordinator so that you're not micromanaging that mike you see right now in los angeles with a veteran mike wade phillips sean mcveigh can go on the bench and sit down and talk and diagnose things in between stuff with your gulf because he had he doesn't have to worry about the defense he knows wait philps can do it he's got to control on it so he can step back and let him coach that's a big thing when you're hiring that stuff in emma birth often mina coaches the one coach should i would love mike monsur data pittsburgh he's coached in tennessee former offensive lineman really is help pittsburgh has run game coordinator and help todd haley with that offense designing thing he is a nononsense bluecollar football coach mu love that about we'll get into a little chance we'll get to your calls we'll do that eggs eight seven seven three three seven sixty six sixty six losers and deal with you week seventeen new year's eve edition of football sunday right here the fan.

"Offensive coordinator talking after the game we got them we got them on that play because we had showed a certain look in a certain set in a certain down and distance we had showed at four or five times during the air and we always did this it was a crossing route or something and we knew we had them and they jumped back cross and we through the fade and that was the game and so that's an example of a team that actually was trying to play on an intellectual level at the patriots most teams can't keep up with belgium echo chick staff and the situation of the bills game where brady went out for in them if that's the siva kick it right which actually thought they they talked about this this morning as well but it was interesting that whatever they were intending to run at that moment aid the bills ron sue and be brady didn't see any other option to off that are anything like that so i get may maybe were maybe i'm under selling the level of effort to combat it that's out there right that other teams aren't trying to now because he i don't think you are because you see a constantly like what was it was at the new orleans game earlier this year where they got the ball with like inside the you know ten or twenty right before the half of like twelve seconds or fourteen seconds and brady went running off the field for that scramble drill where the field goal unit has to come on no time out they kick that sucker with like one second left on the clock how many teams could have pull that off we see teams you see the patriots play teams and i and i think tampa was guilty of this matt game where they have a minute and a half and they just let 30 or 40 seconds runoff the clock for nothing to clock beaver nothing at all eyes and harry reid plays the patriots he takes time outs in that it into the end of the game.

"Yeah that's a good point and there will be peel people who fall for that absolutely appreciate the call thanks yeah and in it if i mean if there's a an object that is a billion times smarter than people that would also contribute to it and yes some people will fall for just about anything he certainly fall for that we need to go back to the 'flexi a we get nate miller tweets us wants to know if you see any way the 'flexi or could solve the leakages unbia use offensive line when you think you think that's where the shot man he is relentless zinni i guess you must be a utah fed just i mean seasons over let us go still who were at the the byu leakage tweets vice they still these still haven't still haven't named an offensive coordinator and coming up on the 20th is the early signing period that they just came up with this year so i think the 21st through the 22nd to consign kids and if they don't have an offensive coordinator by then and it's already the eleventh it's going to be tough it's going to be tough to bring recruits in good luck with it i know as far as the nfl yesterday the packers barely beat the cleveland browns the winless the owen eleven a role in 12 cleveland browns that would be owen thirteen oon thirteen now because the packers finally put him away in overtime did the and then the falcons one again right well they want on thursday milder i thought it was a game yeah so what is it what are they now eight and four nine and four eight and five five one game back of the of the saints.

"Guys got a couple of questions of gary of uganda stole my phone uh when i was on all those talked already about the same thing uh on both quick porn on the offense wind tom coughlin was the head coach of mack who was was are because of war offensive coordinator the playcalling was pretty much your different causes in it i mean tom would go down the fuel alive uh we didn't have defense we were outworn people losing game and at the end of paper with give up delays drive and we ended up losing a lot easier boy uram my birth with soon is used to be a kamkoff liv is his strength was deep all that's allies split everything is not that i'm bashing their beasts gone and you know but he he he chain p offense to uh this little thinking dunk if you or othiel factor we hit dependent on of so much that you would hope if he was break wanna take you through the house and that was beat up all came glass yet that's when so many gave remember when he first team in his offense of cordoning again it's it's a philosophy not too um you know beat up the individual but it was like the whole thing of we want to get the quarterbacks completion percentage seventy percent would be perfect carl bright grow cares if it's seventy percent eu lie manning has won two super bowls in kevin grow brides connell runandshoot concept uh offense that has some high risk in it but has deep balls in it any sixty three percent who cares if it seventy percent by who cares what who cares if he has a consistent quarterback rating over a the jobs to win the game and it seemed like they.

"That i mentioned the adam gives you used to be the offensive coordinator for the denver broncos and was let go when john fox was let go although when he had paid manning they they set record as at as it when he was the offensive coordinator okay now that i cacho of uh thirty three to seven fourthquarter onside kick onside kick didn't recover and then get a safety that gives it i don't know how that happened because i didn't watch the game why because it was dolphins broncos that's white and watched the game but they asked case about it afterwards he gave you i mean did when were just playing for sixty minutes were not going to slow down i don't care what the score is uh my ass they don't they try to come up with something a little bit better than that because i guarantee you when europe how i didn't get a chance to see the very end of this game but i hope he didn't neil on the ball to run the clock out because if you say you're gonna play for sixty minutes than play for sixty minutes you know who played for sixty minutes the sixty no patriots they played for sixty minutes much to a lotta people chagrin they would be a five touchdowns and guess what they still go forward they would still try to crush hugh at the end of the game but don't tell me you're gonna play for sixty minutes you better third plan for sixty minutes the entire sixty minutes not fifty nine i am not fifty eight thirty now fifty nine thirty you better not me on the ball they're better never ever be a victory formation because you just said you plays sixty minutes you don't care what the score is so when you're beating someone forty two nothing will you the dolphins he probably wouldn't have that opportunity than yield three to sack you better keep gone uber keep gallon uber never kneel on the ball it is such a stupid answer.

"Time it feels like these guys are coaching scared and that's what it seems like in miami right now at least certainly what it looked likely last week in mexico with del rio just looking wideeyed like he had never cede eddie thing that was happening in front of a before even though we have all seat it and it involves tom brady picking apart and shredding defense that he throws at the in tomorrow and this is a by the way gazes an offense of guy he's that the offensive coordinator but he's the guy that is running out offense calling plays he's their guy now like by tom with the defense of guy in pittsburgh adam gays offense of guy in miami so you can hang these failings directly on him and it's yeah very bad luck to lose your starting quarterback in the preseason no question but also to go back to the cutler well any what a waste two of three really good receivers it in a different context we hope you having a conversation about well how the patriots gonna cover i mean he got jarvis landry you got the vaunted parker those are guys that have burdened this team in the past a burn the patriots defense in the past hour our stephon gilmore and and malcolm butler going to be able to handle these guys but who's going to get him the ball i think they might be a little bit better with that more frankly it would be hard for them to be worse it's the second worst offense in the nfl right now in terms of points thirdworst in terms of yards their passer rating is somewhere around seventy and they convert about thirty percent.

"And then go to war and try to win a game against green but let me ask you a question daily um by another well we're asking career anyway darrell loggins our offensive coordinator let's say it's at the end of the year and he's not here either goals with fox or five days but he's god you think that he will be picked up as offensive coordinator somewhere else in the national football league nada no auto and and get no chance hey wheelchair by the way remember are less little a what would you call it mastermind offered to coordinator out of gas he's got the worst allfrench and football in miami right now so mean eight there's there's no easy fix but the offer to coordinator right now today tonight other you know a month ago i was very optimistic and i had a belief that we could know have again remember defense is only as strong as its weakest link an offense is a strong is the strongest link so you don't build on the road builder of the the play acts had what bill off the bullet we have it systematically done that so so your your your guest to answer your question who would pick him up if you if the simple little building block type of progressions that you need to accomplish as an officer coordinator can't be attained i'd i'd all their four weeks on the kid i don't think he's better tonight again he's he's rushing is progressions and then questioning him that's war but i don't think if you look at the mccarthy up at green bay or build a checkup at new england and this kid became available whatever reason i don't think he's going to be hired and i don't think a lot of these guys especially on your offenses side daddy idol that they're going to make it this national football league even though it's the good old boy league you know they'll find a job some were somewhere puerta i'm doing something but i'll tell you what we're not when you look at the situation here offensively in apt out uneven off that's the word what the summit up is last week when you play your by his own admission right he's.

"Offensive coordinator comes from atlanta spent as a quarterback coach is but last year who fat ryan uh you've got to really good guys around jericho off at this point so it's one of those situations where young quarterback coming into the league i found a second chance uh with really young innovator you don't just great conceptual ideas on the office also you've got a quarterback who's playing with a tremendous amount of cooperatives who feels we had skill players around him and has an offense of line of congress the protective so i i do i feel that this rams offense uh you know matches up well without him now there was a test recently the f if that found by the impositon yeah they figured out how they could find ct actually in living in the in in the living uh do you how do you think this is going to affect the nfl in why do you see them implementing that play a drew to curb players how do you see that playing in that test affecting the nfl why i would like to see more information on this car because everybody l working in that arena with with dp still considered to be a post mortem diagnosis so um i have i have my hesitation uh with the legacy group out of boston um and that's one of the things that that that is concerning pugh everybody in the retired community because you know they drop a bomb i you know right before training camp this year they come out with a study to ninety nine percent of a professional football players tested tested positive for cp uh but at the back into that.

"I want strangler euro wes were guandeque coordinator caddie corner i it a news gordon i gets go ahead this guy just entered the league and he's already on the hot seat study steve sarkisian the falcons offensive coordinator seek could not be any hotter they are loaded with talent but kyle shanahan maximized that talent nobody gets receivers more open more consistently than kyle shanahan we saw that last year ken steve saarc easy and draw up plays cane he dial in the offense does he know the right combination can you work with matt ryan can work with receivers cane he used the same zone running scheme to the same effect as qiao shanahan i think he's under the microscope as much as anyone issue the great call i mean kennedy had good pro coach i think it was a head coach everyone would say this guy doesn't have any pro experience at all and that would be a legitimate claim and yet he ju it's just as important for a coordinator especially under a defensive coach where he's basically running that site and there are coordinators offense coordinators that are great at game planning the week going into the game and then there are in game masters like shanahan ants you have suddenly switched to someone with no pro play calling experience and tough situations i mean i e this is a tough call the takeover the best almonds i honestly wonder if there's a scenario by the end of the people saying atlanta's defense has gotten them far this year than their offense of things don't go right and making the leap said lanta falconer threatens have a lack of stru but any no at like mark durkan hitting on their the goes all walks of life never want to replace the guy you want to replace the guy who replaced the guy so if something goes wrong with the falcons this year and there is that super bowl hangover and the defense doesn't make the leap in the offense comes down to earth and they go eight nate in their new building and everyone's bitterly disappointed an and the the knocking to fire the had coach they liked i'd coach a lot.
