Jimmy Garoppolo Is Reportedly ‘Plan A’ For Patriots At Quarterback
"So much has been made about the potential of a reunion between jimmy g. and bill be in new england. The forty nine. A quarterback is under contract for two more seasons but new england needs a quarterback and they may look to trade for garappolo that is according to a very interesting piece. That are mike. Reese put together over the weekend who covers the patriots for so well and he gets up with us earlier today. Mike for those who did not read. It gives us a sense of your thinking on the possibilities. Here of jimmy g. Coming back to foxborough so good morning green. I would say as a reporter covering the team there so much secrecy around the patriots quarterback plans so i was asking myself the question. What do i know for fact and for fact. What i know is that the patriots bill. Belichick he holds jimmy garoppolo in such high regard. And it's one thing for me to say it. But i could actually show it to you. I mean there was a picture after the forty niners handed the patriots their worst home loss in two decades under bill belichick. We're bill belichick. Steve on the field to talk with jimmy garoppolo and josh mcdaniels. The offensive coordinator was standing nearby for his. Turn to talk to jimmy garoppolo. So the point. Is this screening. If the patriots believe jimmy garoppolo is their plan a and the big gap to plan b. Now is the time for them to at least test. The forty niners commitment to jimmy g. and so then. That begets the obvious next question which is if they do decide to your point that that's what they wanna do. How do they get it done. Well got to give credit to michael lombardi. The longtime nfl front office man who was here with the patriots when the patriots drafted garoppolo in two thousand and fourteen on his podcast. The gm shuffle. He said how about sam darnold going from the jets to the forty niners who in turn with then trade jimmy garoppolo in a situation controlled by garoppolo. 'cause he has a no trade clause and you saw the respect. There was mutual between the patriots and garoppolo. Well you'd think jimmy might like the idea of a homecoming in that scenario greenie. That could work for everyone. The forty niners would pick up a lot of cap space in that exchange. The patriots would get their quarterback through they respect so much in the jets. Your jets would probably take a quarterback at number two which might be their preference anyway.
Philadelphia Eagles trade QB Carson Wentz to Indianapolis Colts for two draft picks
"Story of the day. The Eagles have traded quarterback Carson Wentz to the Indianapolis Colts and oh my goodness. It made me very happy. I was so excited. There's a lot to unpack. I want to start though by mentioning a weird thing first. In the 2016 NFL draft the number and overall pick was Jared Goff. The number two overall pick was Carson Wentz. And both have been traded away from the teams. They were drafted by 19 days apart. Just a weird quick doesn't happen very often the guy a number and overall pick a number 2 overall pick gets traded away. Especially not the quarterback position. Let alone almost in just over two weeks apart from each other. That's crazy. Pretty wild now after the trade the Eagles have a 33.8 Million Dead money. Salary cap charge for the 2021 NFL season what that means I will get into that in a minute. First of all, that's actually by the way the most ever to have dead money cap. I guess charge or penalties by an NFL team. It's so much that I actually thought that might keep the Eagles from trading cars and stuff like that might be so much of a penalty. They're not even getting rid of the guy sounds like they did. I thought it's good for everybody Carson Wentz wanted out they I think we're you know, we'll talk about Jalen hurts in a minute, but I thought it was good to get Carson out of there. It is also kind of weird and interesting I talked about Jared Goff previously very briefly the other the the record for the most amount of dead money against the salary cap was Jared Goff. The Rams amount is 22.2 million dollars off. Beat 19 days later by the Carson Wentz trade what is dead money? You may ask it's basically all the guaranteed money the Eagles still owe Carson Wentz after the trade. So even though Carson is no longer on their team. He still creates a thirty three point eight million dollar cap hit for next year. So over thirty-three million dollars off of the salary cap has taken up for Philadelphia. They cannot use that money for other players. It's weird. It's interesting. It's never that's again the most ever pretty interesting. I was surprised that you know, they still trade off a given that but in the trade the Colts got Carson Wentz so the cold they get their quarterback that the replacement Philip Rivers the replacement for Andrew Luck. I'm happy for the Colts man. They've they've Way to make it work. They lost in Turlock. They had to scramble the Mage Jacoby Brissett work for a year. They made Philip Rivers work for a year. Now. They've got what they believe is their franchise guide Carson Wentz good for them. The Eagles got a 2001 third-round pick for the upcoming NFL draft and a conditional 2022 second-round pick and here's what's really cool. The condition. Is that if Carson Wentz plays 75% off Kohls offensive snaps for next year if it stays healthy place the whole year or you know, it's good enough to be the starter all years and get benched. Then that draft pick goes from a second round pick in 2022 to a first-round picks. Oh, wow. I like about that. People are saying the Eagles got a horrible trade. They got fleeced. It's terrible. Oh my goodness. You gotta realize this is probably the best trade they could possibly find the Eagles traded away Carson Wentz a guy who has an injury history has been injured repeatedly over the years. He's coming off of a horrible season where he was so bad the dude got benched for Jalen hurts a rookie quarterback Club. So the fact that Philadelphia made a trade where they have an opportunity to get a first-round pick that's impressive to me. I think people realize that's the best they were going to get so anybody criticizing Philadelphia you did not realize how I think how little value Carson Wentz really had on the market people like nobody really wants him. I think JJ Watts getting a ton of attention Carson Wentz people are very wary. And I think it's really what's really disappointed me. Is that the Bears didn't get him. What did the Bears did the Bears not want him? I don't understand. Maybe they're trying to John Watson feel like the Bears really lost here. They still got home key who Carson Wentz has problems I think is way better than Mitchell trubisky. So debate that all you want. I don't know how you go. Like. Oh the Bears they got a great quarterback still trubisky. I like it. I think another thing people got realize is that I love the trade for Carson Wentz. He's going to a way better team he gets to play for his former offensive coordinator Frank back in 2017 the best year Carson Wentz ever had in the NFL. He was a before he got hurt. He was an MVP candidate playing under Frank Reich. He's reuniting with that guy that's going to be awesome to got a great relationship and EM the Colts have a great offensive line. They've got to get running game. They've got a great defense Carson Wentz is being put into a great situation. If he does not do well then there's no excuse. You can make he's got great great team around him good support good people. He's getting helped.
Source - Florida Gators OC Brian Johnson to coach Philadelphia Eagles QBs
"Hired a quarterback coach today by the name of Brian Johnson. And he was there or get your for the Giants in the Stanford quarterback. Totally different guy guy. Shame. He was a quarterback on the Utah football team in like 2007 or 2000, and they beat Alabama in the Sugar Bowl. He was the quarterback, and he actually called the plays. And they finished number two in the country. So I was working in solid state at the time and running a station and doing a morning show and he graduated, and I offered him a gig as a radio talk show host. And after contemplating and doing a few shows, he decided this isn't for me, and he got into coaching so long story short. He was at Mississippi State. He coached Dak Prescott. He was the offensive coordinator Florida Florida most recently and then he just got out in the NFL. By the Eagles is their quarterback coach. Had he accepted that job that I had offered him in radio all those years ago, he would be starving still in eating Macarena, but he made a tremendous decision. Got into coaching, and now he's the quarterback coach of the Eagles, and he probably wouldn't take my call.

"A blue eighty eight today and for this you mentioned the mariners brock. I will now starting to feel like that. It's the little baseball turn common. I probably next week. We have the week between the you know the week off right the full week of the super bowl so we'll talk a little next week next week. We'll probably have the coordinator and some things. But i think once super bowls over like i'm pretty pumped honestly to talk about where this mariners team is at where they're going i. I don't know that they're going to be good yet this year. Like i'm not ready to state anything like that. But they're already likeable. And and i think that's what they prove to me last year and i don't want to lose track and forget it. Forget about that they. They proved to be pretty likable last year. And and one of the ways. The i did it with some personality. They did it with some young players. The biggest thing. I thought they did last year as they did it with With fairly clean baseball For a bunch of young kids. They didn't make a lot of mental mistakes. They didn't make a lot of mistakes on the base paths. They didn't make a lot of defensive errors. They didn't make mental errors on defense they had a bad bullpen at writing a gave it up for them. They had some young players that are going to be inconsistent hitting over the course of the year and learning to adjust big league pitching etc so they weren't a great team they were what five or six games under five hundred. Whatever was in a short season but they weren't they weren't stupid. I know that sounds like a like a back. It's true they didn't play stupid baseball. We saw plenty of veterans teams here in the past. Play stupid baseball. Remember when lloyd mcclendon to walk everybody around the basis to teach them what to do and robbie managed to get thrown out at all three bases later that day and teach much. no madison. Do any of that. They've built some of the right type of culture and it's such a shame i was. I reading an article. The ranking the make the baseball managers service like twenty fifth and it was very clear that no idea what to say like. Well they were good. And then they're rebuilding scotch. You get a better job somewhere. It's like what does that even mean. How do you how is that. A ranking of what kind of a manager scott services versus anyone else in the scots over the course of time and this is why i'll defend him and i'm really high on him. He's built a culture where a bunch of young kids didn't play stupid baseball. That's an impressive thing to say manager can do. He can't make good players out of bad ones. He can't turn young players into veterans. He can't get a guy who hits to twenty two hit three twenty but he absolutely can build a culture and build a concentration level on esteem. Where where you don't play bad baseball and that you get the most out of your ability and thought they did last year. Yeah yeah and think kind of building a competitive environment as well. It's going to be super fun to mix in some young great talent years in kalmyk this year. I mean like you start thinking about last year's like they are supposed to see kalmyk and would if it weren't for the stranger you're gonna see kalmyk this year. Probably gonna logan gilbert this year. Julio rodriguez m- maybe not maybe another year. Julio okay you will see him as the number three prospect base yes top those lists just macy cow raleigh if he continues to in addition and now another year. Kyle lewis another year of evan white. Like you know you're you're starting to really get a sense of which of these guys is what they're gonna look like when they get here. I hope that kelanic day is a is a big thing that his first day and that he comes up hope people are about it and and i hope he seems like one of those kids. Who's gonna come up and hit a home. Run in his first about at just a hamming. Obviously just doesn't seem like that. He believes he does. He will be swinging that much. Guaranteed so do you think scott more upset about that ranking a couple of years ago the put him as like the twin minutes to handsome manager or that one these twenty fifth overall. How did the one about how good looking they were right. No there was an actual. That was there was. There was actual material that he was not happy. I don't blame him and that's kind of insulting. I mean was it. Twenty and not a shot at scott. I love scott. It's fantastic job. What does he i mean. He's never even coach managed a playoff game no but as that because of his managing like i think if you're going to take the time to rank the managers you've got to actually figure out what makes one better than another and you've got to have more than a sentence about each of them otherwise you're just ranking how good the teams in the league of been we like lists might again make lists list. I should say this is in the boston globe. So they don't really know. Scott services and terry francona was on the list. So it doesn't you don't need to put a whole lot of stock into this. I just i happened to notice it read. It was like well. It doesn't make any sensible all right. Let's let's get out of here. I think we've had enough for this week. Brock thank you. It was fun to talk to you. I hope whatever construction is going on behind you done was quite the project. I'm glad that now that we're done. It's done yes until about the same time. It's great the when things work out that way all right we will be back next week. We will discuss whoever it is. I hope that is the seahawks offensive coordinator and kind of where they go from here and start getting ready for the super bowl as well so we'll catch you guys next week till then. The hay barn.

"Round. And i think the only two possibilities would be jamal and bobby and man would that be huge huge risk and a lot of conversation question number brought him up earlier bruce arians is but he is back in the he's in the super bowl view wendy's the hall of fame. Is that what you're saying. I was going to say how much what is this. Make you think of bruce. What doesn't make multiple times coach. Terracotta a the coach of the year. This year no eat regardless you thirty one win it in indianapolis indy. Yes multiple time coach of the year. one super bowls as a coordinator took two teams to a super bowl. If he wins the super bowl. There is a legitimate bruce. Arians hall lock. Here's a hall of fame walks with a win or expert. So i know so. How could he not be mike gene character. Clausen football excuses. Probably know the you said. Look at him now. Every time they show him in as little giddy up on the sidelines. Do you do use it and have the same that all and discussed or is it softened at all this season is it because he's out of the division or why is he so much less annoying. I didn't even hear from. I think i just i think it's mostly will hear from otherwise. I think he would still bother me the same thing. I mean you do have to give him some credit here. Okay yes he. Lets tom coach and but but he does. And he doesn't meddle and interfere. He s he's still. You know the big trees. But he's let byron left which go with it yes even through adversity of losing three and four games in the middle part of their season. And kind of call and tom out and and walk that delicate line to still have an edge. Which tom has been used to for two decades. And you know helping that crew. Come together and i'll tell you man those guys you can see it. They they love to play. They believe in their in their in their in the back. They'll line is really solid. The additions made if all paid and those dudes play freaking hard play hard and to have one three road games in this one and beat the chiefs. The i think bruce arians. That's a legitimate conversation down. The road is a hall of fame to what you said. This is the second super bowl. What was the first. There's no wizened grizzly so. Let's correct the record. Police tell me why. tell me. please about bruce arians. I like to hear that one. That's how it goes as a coordinator for the steelers coordinator. Yeah we usually handle. That's how i'm not buying that. Thank you question number three to bring the good thing. I'm here to correct his one leg right or did you get to with ariza guy with withdrew with his. He's got to thank you. Bring up all right. Question number. Three broncos fast. Decay cow retiree. I think i was watching. If you guys watch so. You say bolt documentary i am. I didn't know such that. Yeah yeah you should watch it. It's very and then you would love this. is i. Get as a remarkable his training in jamaica coach in jamaica. It is just awesome. I am bolt so you should absolutely.

"Had to be. I think i mean the guy that helped him win six six but they divorced publicly who gets more cramming now. This changes the story right. isn't bella. check alone the. He's still the greatest coach of all time. But isn't this. doesn't this change it just a little bit or maybe a lot of it. So he's rooting against. I think he has to be is on legacy brady. And he's getting so mad at the packers and so mad at their decision. Making it so mad at kevin king did not stay on top and stay in phase and so mad at that pass interference call. He's just he just gets disgusted. Gusted by what he sees. what What what about. What about the i mean. First of all as i'm watching these games. I'm realizing that there is a chance. I'm going to have to watch. Bruce arians against josh allen and the super bowl and that might be the end of me like i don't think i can handle it. All salts hot takes go away that point like all right. i'm done. I guess what thankfully josh allen was not great. I mean twenty forty eight and two touchdowns yeah but an interception an inaccurate when he needed to be and he just not on the same level nari matt teams down on the same level and then she didn't have an answer mean. They played them earlier in the year and did not have an answer and and they just who has an answer. Who chiefs offense. Yeah well the forty niners last year in the super bowl your ability to rush for into hit mahomes and to not let him out again and again and again and that will be why this is a three point spread right now is is for that reason because jp and shaquille barrett and vida back and the speed of those linebackers and the ability to just rush for the only chance. You have the only way you could possibly in any way and even then it's brutally difficult but if you can rush four and you can put seven on their four. You've got a chance and tampa does have a chance. The bills got a sack in that game. I think the first three or four games against mahomes yes. They lost left tackle their best their best line mentors achilles. They're right tackle. Is out there on a backup their interior. Their line is pretty average. So i mean i. I think that there is enough vulnerability there if you are elite. And that's that's why tampa's here they aaron rodgers hadn't been sacked. They showed aaron rodgers interception numbers and not only did he throw three against tampa on of his six for the entire season. That can also play games. Where he wasn't touched and those those guys rushed for. They got home. They couldn't block. They had backup tackles. And you couldn't block barrett and j p p and i don't know if these two will be able to so i think it actually keeps it a pretty decent game so i'm reminded once again if lesson than number one is just how persnickety in arrogant aaron rogers is number two and watching. These games was impact quarterback. And when you do it with four you have a chance to win. And frank clark and big fella inside did it for kansas city and they got after them and they blitz him a whole bunch too because they could cover on the back end because he's a matchup thrower of the football. Yes i mean those things help. So yes but the other side of you're talking about the defensive side of the fact that they protect homes. I mean buffalo. got after everybody else. This year that defense was was as good as it got in the nfl this year. They're really good and yet the cheese protect them and You know my friend who's in In minnesota film akio. I was seeing watching his twitter feed this week and he re tweeted. Somebody's chief starting offensive line for the super bowl. Remers is gonna play left. Tackle hasn't played in a couple years. I know the guy got their left guard as a seventh round. There center is a seventh rounder. Royer right guard is going to be was new ski. Who's been around for a while but was recently cut in november by pittsburgh and they're right tackle is widely who's an undrafted free agent guard correct. So it's not like they spent a whole bunch of first rounders and fisher the left tackle. The tories achilles was the number one pick. That's it that's the rest are seventh round and undrafted guys. So so how does that change. I mean look. We've seen the seahawks have trouble protecting now for years and by the way the box the way they protect brady is lights out. Yes why why. Why can't the seahawks protect. Ross i know and come up with a bunch of reasons and i'm legitimately asking you. This question. is it that they've drafted the wrong guys. Is it that they haven't coached there. Guys to the point that they need to or is it that russell wilson doesn't do something either in calling out protections or in getting rid of the ball quickly or whatever to make them look better than they are. How do you how do you fat. Yes yes and yes and divvy that up pretty equally amongst serie parts and that's not great sports radio but yes yes and yes. You drafted some of the wrong guys. The just you know the germain petty is not a good linemen and wasn't this year in a new place as well and he's just can't move. He's he's not good and Yeah you you've been wrong in some of the acquisition. Why you bring back and spend another year with who's never going to be healthy. It was never going to be dependable and reliable and everything else. It took four years to finally develop post. It can put him where he should have been from day one. So that was that was a miss draft because he's not a guard he's a center in a pretty decent one in this league and we'll probably sign somewhere else and play the next four years somewhere else at a pretty decent level wasted his wasted his career sitting behind trying to play guard when he's not a guard so there's i think been some acquisition failure. There's been some development failure that you didn't realize that but you had justin brett. That was playing at a decent level. And so you had you know unfortunately some multiplicity to position that you had other because justin britt couldn't play the other positions grafted him to play at. And then you know you've gotta system as you watch us chiefs. They just scare you to death if your defensive coordinator you are scared to death because they will out leverage you at any time jet sweeps and fly sweeps and screen games and then they will have a tight end that is adept at catching the ball and finding any soft spot in his own. This is anyone that we've watched play that position a long time so in a quarterback yet we were wrong we one extra guy and he can make him miss an extended play and still make stuff happen in make it look easy again and again and again and again so yeah i think all three parts of those might come. Come into play you. Have the atlanta falcons this year. They're starting five. Linemen were all former first. Round picks. The entire offensive line was first round picks. And then you do you contrast that with the chiefs and andy reid former guy. That is getting what he's getting out of undrafted in seventh round picks i mean. It's there's not. An exact science can like projecting quarterbacks and fortunately radiate here brought some some good football questions. We have election year. Mariners wanna talk a little mariners. I haven't on my list here. We did it for a few minutes after blue. Okay here's here's your blue. ada question. John schneider has no first round pick. No third round. Pick four picks total in this draft. That right that is correct. How does how does he work this. In order to make john schneider he has to get back in this rat because of this draft is actually set up for him like this is there are so many new gm's all around the league. There are so many that are going to be scared to death to make a decision and try to stockpile picks twenty twenty two because they know these twenty one prospect nearly as well as going to know the twenty two prospects and everything else so.

"That aaron rodgers is just brutally difficult to deal with that you know oh man. He's the beginning that broadcast right. And i think we've said in our broadcasts that when i covered him three times this year he is just a great place. Oh he's never had more fun ache. I've never i've covered fifteen years. Never seen him happier and more fun and everything else. And then when adversity comes and you fall down and you can't dig yourself all the way out to just throw your coach under the bus like that. The you know in the post games. Just oh i i mean. He deserves some of the beliefs. I think he made the wrong decision. He prussia gone for it on fourth down and i jumped in and made fun also just like everybody else did. But i don't know like in really thinking about it. They were already in an impossible situation. And and unfortunately that's the moment that everyone will remember from this game and it shouldn't be i mean they got themselves into a spot where they were down eight to brady with two minutes left. You didn't capitalize it. Took three picks they picked brady off three straight possessions and they did you just with the last two of them nothing. You don't take advantage of those opportunities against that guy who's the greatest of all time. Yeah you do you put yourself in a really difficult spot but for him to just not own it at all like i should run like absolutely should run and try to put us down at the goal line and made an easier decision. I didn't and but nope nope not. My decision was a me decision to throw the ball away on second and third down right. That was yours. Anybody follow up with that question. Aaron okay it was not your call to To kick was it your call to throw the ball into the ground on both second down. I just wondering because who's decision making was that it looked like you had five six yards of open of open space to run. Who was was matt lafleur in your ear making that decision also i just at that that is i thought that was gross. That was pretty gross. So that that was probably on the heels of what we saw from him last year in the game he played a quarter and was like we can't win and just quit their number. The number there was a fumble and good. I know cam. Newton gets grief for that. This is true what go back. I mean don't go back again. Just take my word for it. We're good here. I think this over the first half. But i'm done that's basically what happened. So yeah You know. I think he'll be moving on. I think you're right about all of that. We can't i don't know i don't know if they'll be i mean he's got four years left. I'm just i i think. I think that's something will happen there. In the meantime the brady thing really is absurd. Come on he goes to eighteen with no preseason no training camp no ability to even like relate and get together and learn each other get on the same page practice like normal all that and he's back in the super bowl as a wildcard team playing three games. That's that's that's unheard of yes. I mean twentieth thirty six. But whatever repick yeah and three touchdowns and was pretty. Brilliant that i have to build a unbelievable seventy five seventy totally understand. He did not play great in the Is he was outplayed by rodgers. Yeah except he when he absolutely needed to. He put that ball on the money. At the end of the first half of that touchdown and at the end of the and that was on kevin king huskies into struggle. What al rough night. While then twice brady new to pick on kevin king so look i i get it. He was not fantastic. The game the defense was so much the story of that game that tampa bay defence is legit. But and i think they're going to get waxed soup. Also credit brady without crediting areas. Mike so you pick your poison. I can do so widespread lightly. Watch me do that. Yeah no i just did watch me. I just want what he has done. What he has done in creating a sense of belief is just to your point without having you know the normal course of action without going in hanging out with guys without having extra practice time without being around to just create sense of belief for that program right hid in not been to the playoffs in decades into create that into to do it right from the jump and to go down the field on those three third down conversions early on that opening drive that he was nails to to put the dagger in the back at the end of that first. Half there just to create some belief that you're going to do and throw in picks and mattered and care you defense response and we're gonna find a way to to win this thing and finish it and just yes to do so at when you're younger than me at forty three years of age in the be so calm cool and collected along the way. Just just a phenomenal story. Now we've seen that movie so many times where like team becomes super team in the offseason. They all my and then they completely fall apart because it takes a while and they didn't say what you want. And maybe it's bruce arians. I don't know. I don't think so. I think it's a whole lot. Brady i mean you know this. As i've said a few times this is this is changed my whole view of the brady bill. Check thing and now. I got a really think long and hard about the fact. The brady was the by far the more important figure over the course of that time. So you got mad and bill. Belichick watched tweeted your question. Do you think he he. He had to be watching. There's no way as a football guy. You're not watching and then okay. So let's say he was. I don't. I'm not convinced he was watching. Let's say he was z. Rooting for tom root against them against him. All day has to be better me. I'll be disappointed if he wasn't. He had to be rooting.

"Between tom. Brady and bruce arians. Do you wanna be matt lafleur. I mean matt lafleur at least calls the place so if you're the passing game coordinator there or the guy that i like. A bunch of new house back who has or not hasselback nathaniel hackett who has the title of osi. You know yes i mean. This is what you get the expectations for whoever it is whoever they end up hiring the expectations here are super bowl or bust anything less than that with russell and with pete in this market with this team and with the talent on offense you're going to fall under criticism and you may have philosophical differences even after you leave the franchise to more points than they've ever scored before and twelve wins and a forty touchdowns with a quarterback and then then if see west title so yes. This is a demanding job. You better be thick skinned. It looks like mike is signs are pointing here and when we do a podcast next week i'm gonna guess we will finally have a name and it will probably be somebody that's not call place that the kyle if you're right and you kinda like the innovative way they're going with some of these different younger names moawiya going to be a first time playcaller. It's going to be thrown into that cauldron of expectation and he's going to have to grow very very fast. Well all right. We got We got super bowl now. Coming up we got team set brock. That's my doing. That's not boy. Howdy trying to get into the studio after pm. Part from from this podcast. So i apologize. I will scream. And in the meantime we could talk a bit about what you guys are doing here for games over these next few weeks right. We got famous. Dave's gonna help you barbecues. You don't have to do it yourself. You know it'd be outside and win in the cold camera i ran into. I'm trying to traeger this. It's raining it's cold. You get it up to temperature. It's not happening tragedy. Well easy solution for you. You're not as close to the ghost kitchen and some others but famous dave's you gotta check out. Saint louis.

"All over the place yeah i mean like they. Don't turn down endorsement mogul. That's the word i was looking for. Mogo mogo yeah. He wants to be a mogul bigger than the sport. And yeah and i think he's probably at a place in his career and we've said this a bunch and you've you've watched you know about a decade in you know. Be with erin or with brad or it took two decades for tom and and bill. But you know even even payton in india with and that kind of like it's it's really difficult to sustain man. It's really difficult especially when you win the whole thing. Early duos have have a tendency. I mean look. We see this in bands all the time rioting and then we see it with. We've seen with radio show hosts for arguing. You and i know how many different combos of radio host who essentially don't talk to each other ever other than the couple of hours at their on the air together sure seemed like something like that happened with mike and mike. I mean probably the greatest sports duo and obviously happened with mike and the mad dog. I mean like when you kind of go through a lot of these famous famous in our industry anyway. Whatever you call it This tends to happen. People get a little concerned about the credit share. Or they wanna they wanna take the show or the or in this case the offense in different directions in and accomplish different things with it and it does get look. There's a million ways to view an offense and to look at and we can all watch the same season we can watch the same game and come away with completely different reasons. Why things didn't work right. Yup you can point to the offensive line. you can point to the play calling. You can point to the quarterback. i sure will. Yeah absolutely well now. Tom race three turnovers overcome that now. They came up with a few themselves right. So you know th those tend to balance themselves out but yeah you you. You can point to so many different factors and that'll take you so many different directions that i can see why it's challenging to figure out exactly what the what direction to go next. But if i'm pete and i'm russ i'm looking at myself in the mirror right now and san. How can i help. Make the situation better How can i lower the temperature. How can i reach out to the person that i need. Which is the other one in order for this to work and work the way the fans demand that it works. I'm looking at myself in the mirror. Probably trying to figure. What can i do to help. Make this work by the way you just quoted. Tony dungy dad. Let's say you go way back. It's even though you're dealing. How can i make this situation better. This what tony's dad would say to him through all of his journeys and everything that he battled and and the racial divide that he had to overcome coach dungy both as a player quarterback of minnesota and ultimately is a player in the nfl and then as a coach that was always what ring in his head and his dad would say. What are you gonna do to make situation. So what are you gonna do. What what are you guys going to do right now to make this situation better. Are you going gonna just interview fifteen. Guys i mean is that is that going to be beneficial. Doug peterson anthony lane. And some of the more you know no-name commodities and play collars and then we'll get to ken dorsey quarterback coach in passing game coordinator for the rams and we'll just turn over as you said earlier every stone and hope that you know that the two of us feel the exact same way it's just a knockout like yep. That's the guy by the way. I hope that there's no real issue. I hope that no one is turned them down. I hope that no one has taken. I mean we haven't heard anybody say i'm taking myself out. I hope there's none of that. And i know that there's somebody listening to this right now going brooklyn softest ten. Nothing nothing's happened. You could be right and let's go to the old. Write me a script right where. Multiple people are turning down the opportunity to work with one of the three to five best quarterbacks in the league russell wilson can you imagine the depths of the dysfunction that would have to be all in one of the three two three to five coaches in the nfl. And pekair care if you walked into that interview and came away saying this job. The level of dysfunction within this organization is far beyond what we can even imagine right now. I haven't had his deeply concerned. You think that that's happened. No not at all by this. I think they started out by looking at all. These retreads and anthony lynn and adam gates. I mean even doug. Peterson obviously would have been a fantastic higher. But all these big names established status quo offense of coordinators. And now we're getting down into the passing game coordinators. The thirty to the thirty five year olds the young innovative minds. i think i'm encouraged that piece. Actually looking outside the box compared to the constraints that i would imagine he put on himself. Why did it takes a long to get to the young innovative mines convincing pete. I don't know. I'm just workshop and ideas. But they go all doing that. By the way. And russ i mean ross or someone in that room nate carols pete. I mean really like we're gonna go back to this anthony. Lynn talked shane waldron passing game coordinator. The rams pretty innovative got our number. Let's get creative. Let's let's try. It doesn't mean they're going to hire. But at least having the conversation. And i'm glad there have conversations. I don't mind them casting a wide net. I've been really said that. Last week i liked the idea of casting a wide net and really turn over every rock but it two weeks long time. Something dorsey was the bills were in the playoffs and wall during the rams were in the playoffs and into the second round so some of them you gotta wait until.

"Maybe they're in is a little bit of the challenge and therein is my goodness gracious. The guy that just lead them to the most points scored and franchise history and russell through forty touchdowns and put up all these huge numbers. One twelve games won the division. And he's out. Do i wanna follow that. Where does the bargo from there. I mean what am i not that. They're not that it's like a fearful. Like oh i can't do a great job i can't come in here and elevate about if you couldn't make that work and there were philosophical differences. I think that's probably the most are thinking is flying into seattle the do the interviews or or doing them over zoom guess. These are not even in person. I don't think we're that to that point yet. You know at least by route. The rumor mill. So i mean that would be a good answer honestly. The disaster answer is that they're saying pete and russ or not on the same page. They want different things for the offense. I don't wanna play marriage counselor between the right. That's the that's the potential disaster answer. Know if it's true again. I don't i hate to like keep backing up like your but that's the problem. That's that's when you go. Someone doesn't want to take this job because they don't wanna play marriage counselor and i'll admit brock when you hear the decay metcalf san. We'll play it here in a second it does lend a little credence to this potential of like something. Something got broken last year and they don't seem to have like a good plan on how to fix it so decay. Metcalf goes on with brandon marshal right whereas this kyle. I am ashley i am athletes to like. Okay anyway. he's on energie boy. You know it's like a sh- moonen him on. Yeah they should get him on that. I think he'd be a good fit friend. Marshall inside joe for niche audience. This guy anyway. Here's decay commenting on on some of the seahawks offensive struggles. This past year happen to the seattle seahawks Teams just started to figure out We've been running. Deep passed since. Pete got their play action. Run the ball runabout. Run the ball go deep teams said we. We just not gonna let okay. Well very honest. Simple really again employees punches. There he just kind of gives you the answer okay. So now i know i've got pete carroll who wants to run the ball and throw deep. Apparently i've got russell wilson who wants to throw for a lot more yards. Because he wants to be an mvp. He's made that pretty clear. And i got decay metcalf clearly willing to throw people say like yeah. That's not working whatever it is because he's growing a top wide receiver once his numbers etcetera. Are you starting to worry that that. There's a lot of a lot a lot to handle for anybody coming in. Yeah i mean it's just again. There's like a big part of me. That is i'm absorbing in listening to this. I understand it but this is still russell. Wilson carolina one of the best young wide receivers in the game in in in tyler law like why the great organizations that the treats players unbelievably one of the great facilities the greatest facility in the nfl so credible fan base incredible stadium a winning culture like so many positive pieces. Honestly i i can't just dismiss every one of these things. You're sniff test has been pretty good through the decade. So i'm not minimizing that at all but seriously it just as i start to go down that road with you and try to kind of walk on that side of the fence the other side's like this is the seattle seahawks but the celtics have been this way since paul allen. I bought the team right. I mean they were a top notch organization. From the moment he bought it and holmgren showed up right and and really gave some credibility you know in and around ruining brock's career but he had the the the the the Genesee quaw so to speak right presents residence time presence and then what went wrong. What what marked the problems with the end of the homegrown organization who there was there was a lot of fights. Power struggle or struggle between him. And who in bob whitsitt tacking and power struggle with him. Bob ferguson power struggle with him. And tim russ goals specifically the witted and then the russell. Russell spent a season with two kickers on the road. That's right agree on that they had. I mean that is what ultimately yoke this thing lead to a longer and didn't just forget how to coach beck. I'd been a really good coach. And i think he's a hall of fame coach now right not white. No maybe next year. Good chance he will get in anyway. And i'm not saying there's a shot. I thought he was covered. No it really wasn't. The first one was a shot. That was the dental shop. It wasn't on purpose. Though it was that it was that it was that split of two major powerbrokers inside an organization. That couldn't agree on what they were doing that. That will tear you apart. Clinton will i forest as fast as they can. So is that. What's going on. Between john and peter out extension. Oh it doesn't seem to be nope nope they seem to be. Both on the same page. All seem to like it here. John john would have had lots of options. You know he didn't. He didn't have to sign an extension. There were multiple jobs open multiple opportunities. And he will. He have absolutely gotten one of the gm jobs if he wanted to go to carolina or he wanted to go to detroit or he wanted to go different spots but nope he designed to sign up for more years in this quality organization with an incredible fan base and incredible culture. They built right everything that he impede have. So those two seem to be in a pretty good place. So now you're talking about the next big powerbroker in organization and that's quarterback and that is russel and that you know in russell is in russell's agents is and he is very into his bryant. He's very into wanting to become what what does he. What what are we say. you're unlimited. He's he's mr unlimited but he wants to be bigger than just football he wants to be the best we've ever played it and then he wants to go and be bigger than that and spends a lot of time in the off season. Kinda grow in that in shape and that and he's his wife is known in new series of commercials by the way you see her do what. She's doing weight watchers who his wife sierra. Not pete's wife yet not glenna now. Heather and i were watching hulu or something. The other day saw we watch because that sierra.

Philadelphia Eagles hire Nick Sirianni to replace Doug Pederson as head coach
"We're gonna talk about the new head coach. The eagles tired offense former offensive coordinator for the indianapolis colts. Under frank reich. Nick syrian of course This is a this is a guy who i don't think many of us of before the last couple of weeks so this is certainly certainly football. Guys know who. Nick serianni is people who are who are living breathing and and eat this stuff. No hixon's but for the casual fan. There was no reason to think he would be on anybody's shortlist. Of course eagles didn't have a shortlist. They had a long list and we're looking at seemingly every coordinator under the sun here over the last couple of weeks but just before we get into the details. What are your general impressions of nick. Serianni your i feel like It's gonna be hard to judge him early on because first off. He doesn't have head coaching experience. So he's going to be learning on the job and second he's coming into a situation where The idea of molding a quarterback is going to be tough. because he's gotta figure out who's his quarterback and Is this a question of are. Are you fixing the guy that looked like the cornerstone franchise quarterback. Are you putting out fires inside a locker room because of Are we are. We going to have factions inside that locker room that wanna see carson wentz or jalen hurts or there's so many unknowns on who's going to be the starter in september that this guy has to figure out but at the same time he has to figure out his way through the entire locker room so the stuff i've heard from guys that i trust in the nfl Guys that i i. I've been texting over the last You know six months but also especially during the last week in the coaching search. The coaches that they interviewed. Just show me that The person that they thought they were gonna have wasn't the guy more Things have changed on the quarterback situation. And you know when you when you see the connection that frank right has and the influence that he has with nick siri auntie and conversation with carson wentz. You start to connect the dots. Oh they'll this would naturally make sense but at the same time. I don't think he was on many people's radars and I feel i feel like you know. I have some optimism. But i come back to one thing and and i haven't been this way john while when it comes to the eagles and it's really depressing and i wanted to depress our audience and it doesn't matter who you have as a coach if the coach doesn't have any sense of power of putting together a staff if the coach doesn't have Any any say or strong influence on how to build the roster that is what kind of free-agent as well as we're kind of draft picks and that was a huge issue with doug and buying when you win the super bowl away. Doug won the super bowl. I think doug deserves a little more Room when it came to influence. And if that hasn't changed from above doug With the gm. Then what are we talked about. We're talking about an owner. Gm that's going to have more say more control and the same thing that we've seen before and i've said this before during the entire Coaching search. Why would a head coach with experience or reputation or the The hotshot innovative Guy that's coming in like lincoln riley. Why would they come into this situation. If they don't have a sense of control of power so. I think it's very predictable that we're seeing first time head coach Because it was the same thing we saw with. Doug it's it's the same track record and if you are going to follow the same stuff. You're gonna continue. Repeat the same mistakes over and over again above doug on who is making the picks right clearly clearly that has not been resolved yet or at least not publicly on understanding power. We figuring out the talent pool because what we're doing right now or what. The eagles have done right now has not worked. And when you look back at specially going back the last six seven years

"offensive coordinator" Discussed on Behind the Steel Curtain
"On drives where there was a sack so you know maybe maybe that helped make the field goal a bit longer or maybe it was good that they kept them to a field goal attempt. The steelers gave up eight field goals on drives in which had a sack. And i have to say several of these. I didn't mark them exactly several these. Where is whether the sack set them to where it was a field goal. Rather than maybe give it up the touchdown by a third down sack that the next play was feel some. You know you have to admit. That's that's a desirable thing. When it's helping you get a field goal rather than a touchdown so although yeah you don't wanna give up the points a it is better to give up the if a sack helps you. Save it to be three instead of seven now. The steelers gave up field goals on ten point six percent of their drive during the regular season. So you're saying wow that's more well when you look at. It yasser going to look at what it does with touchdowns and that is the steelers only gave up four touchdowns in twenty twenty on a drive where they had a sack so in other words they got to the quarterback at some point in the drive but yet the team was able to overcome it. Enough to still get a touchdown and what craziest two of them were in the same game. Two of them week. Eight in baltimore that the two of their touchdowns were on drives where lamar jackson was sacked. Well one of them. I know at least one of them was where he was scrambling and got back. Just to the line of scrimmage and and and that was the sack it's not like they sent him back a ton of yards With though so that was interesting. The other two games were the The only touchdown giving up in week six. Against the cleveland browns was actually on a on a steelers. Had sacked baker mayfield and and the last one was actually week in week. Sixteen in the first half against the indianapolis colts the first. Drive the game. If i if i do recall correctly but i can't remember for sure right now. So that's only seven point. Four one percent of of the drives ended in a touchdown where for the season eighteen point six of the drives that the steelers faced ended in a touchdown. So this is a big deal. This is a big number. So that's why the field numbers up a little bit because overall the scoring percentages down. The number of drives in which ended in a score was twenty two point two percent of ones that had a sack where overall for the season of all drives. It was twenty nine point three percent. So you're talking to seven percent better so not only do whenever the steelers get a sack. In twenty twenty on that drive they. The team was less likely to score. If they did score they were much more likely to just a field. Goal that a touchdown which was the opposite for the regular season for the steelers that the steelers gave up more touchdown drives than they did feel goal drives so that kind of flips the script. So you can't. You can't underestimate the value of getting to the quarterback that's why the steelers not getting sack in the postseason really hurt them because sometimes all it takes is one sack on one drive and it changes everything. It could turn seven into three. It could turn three zero. It can turn seven into zero. You know The depending on the situation. So that's why those are so important kind of like penalties anytime you get a penalty. Penalties are dr killers. When you're a team that's just methodically trying to move the ball downfield one it. They're very difficult to overcome. So this is the important of importance of the defense giving the quarterback. It really helps them. Keep them from giving up touchdowns. And like i said holding teams to feel goals or no points at all so i just thought that was a little interesting stat to throw out there to look up and i hope you all enjoyed that but but i'm gonna say this again what i really wanna do when it comes to stats is i want to know what you all wanna now. It's a long offseason. We've got lots of things to look at. I can break down if you wanna know. So as i said in the first half st l. are superfan data gmail.com. Just send me those any stat question that you have. I mean i'll try to answer some of them. I mean i'll be honest with you. I've got some questions. I don't even know where to find this information. And that's probably why people were asking because they would like to have that information as well. And i don't blame you so make sure if you have a good question. Let me know. Because i'm sure somebody listening right now saying gee. I really wish i knew this. I really wish he would talk about this. That's what i'm waiting for like to hear. But hey if you took the time to listen. I hope you enjoyed these numbers. I hope you got a little something out of him and more importantly i just wanna thank you for supporting behind the steel curtain. Both in our podcast form and hopefully visiting the website. So next thursday. I'll be back with hopefully some more super geeky numbers i don't know if they're super geeky or not but gives you some good numbers. Hopefully you can. You can answer some some interesting questions always say round..
Philadelphia's Doug Peterson off Seattle Seahawks Offensive Coordinator List

"Was a peculiar move that nobody saw coming. But i think a smart one for her to say Mountain west conference or sec. I don't think. Chris is gonna coach anywhere outside the power five. Don't think coach. Peterson's going to coach in the pac twelve. But would there be a fit and could he just can't imagine him as curious as he is as young as he is fit is he is in this quest for answers that he has been on for the last year. Or so awesome. I just can't imagine him in his mid fifties being done. I can't so if he's gonna come back to coach. Is it going to be in the big tent. Is it going to be in the sec. Could he played by the sec. Rules ethically that may be a challenge. But i would believe that he's going to be back in in this kind of came to mind because of the tennessee job in tennessee. Fires their head. Coach jeremy pruitt for recruiting violations. And you know if they tennessee where to have. An an eighty eighty is retiring. The chris peterson could handpick. Could there be an opportunity that He feels like man. This is a job that can win a national title in the best conference in america. I don't know. Don't think tennessee's the job but i certainly hope that he is back in college football cultural all right there you go. That's blue eighty eight and That's pretty much a rap on another brockett salt podcast. I don't other. People are still angry after listening if the hour and a half angrier angrier. Oh yeah my career. Really it's gonna keep ramping up the injury like now in the wait until wait till they hire adam gays can i. I'm rooting for that little. You want to hear. That'd be jamal adams and oh my gosh. That's why this man is not fit to be a coat when it's all said and done i think with the seahawks are doing the right thing to do. You should cast a wide net. Should interview everybody because you learn you learn only from that candidate. They learned about other candidates. People think about you too. Yes they say. We're in on everything and they should be on an on every so do we have do. We have a coordinator next week when we do this. Fine yeah you can't let this thing go on forever. Yeah i think by next week. We probably have somebody that we're talking about. Probably pretty probably this week. Even so dave. Canals and nate carol cozy. I tell you what man if that happens. It'll talk about anger. There's going be a lot of it around. So hey we'll see what happens Hopefully people can take some deep breaths. Let the process play.

"Might need it to you. Got to get them all. Adams is that guy when healthy playing with two arms quandary. We saw digs late in the year. Certainly with atoms. He'll come up and hit you. Brooks will come up and hit you blair who. You didn't even see this year do that. You'll need those kinds of plays or or you're not going to win games in the playoffs. A half the have them. I know all the focus on the offensive coordinator. I know it's all on roz. And i know it's on pete and there's there's a lot of tension bubbling under the surface and we haven't even gotten to the whole nate. Carol rumours that that have been floated out there a little that he may end up being an offensive coordinator. Eventually g tweeting about that last week and know that that's another sort of interesting dynamic here of what's going on with his sons and i would come back to that part but the defense to me is still the key to this whole thing if you're pete carroll and you wanna play your style of football fine i think you can win. Playing p carol style football. We've seen teams win. Playing carol style football. But you can't do it unless you're offense. Defense is truly on it okay. I think that is certainly one angle to it. It does right now. he's face. I can just imagine it is just sick. No he's beaten like yep you're right he looks at but equally is equally is. Can you protect the bills. T- earth through it. Every single snap was still able to keep a pass rushing. A violent pass rushing crew from baltimore. Off of josh allen. Aaron donald was not one hundred percent. I don't even know if he was fifty percent but looking at the pocket that aaron rodgers had minus his best lineman and bacteria and lost for the year. And you know he's hardly getting. Here's we saw. What happened last week with with floyd and with with brokers and i mean they they when his lap yes russell took and held the ball a number of times and took some saks. But just look at the pockets of those two games just being physically overwhelmed so yes. I think the defense is absolutely part of it. But the green bay. Oh line is to me the best in the league and they're one of the last team standing. Kansas city is got one of the better groups upfront. Certainly skill position. There's not even a comparison. The bill's crew they invested a bunch of paid their left tackle. They paid mitch. Morris they brought in right right tackle with darryl roberts. They made a lot of pretty savvy. Move to solidify that group of front. And you've you've got to. You've got to have that tampa bay tristen worse as a first round pick. They've got one of you've got these four lines at least three of the four best lines in the league or top ten. No question about it. So i think yeah finding more running. Hit and being violent defensively. Yeah very key but with quarterback that thinks he's going to play for the next ten years is we listened to russell last segment. Yeah you you better get that online line right where so. So let's say you're in the seahawks management room. Where are you spending your first round. Pick the next two years on offensive line or on defence. Funny was cute. I mean where you spending it to help the oh may have problem. There got four picks this year. Four of them. You want to spend them on on. Offense should be like k. Better be creative man. You have one in the first three rounds. You'd better be real creative in how you're going to beef up your offensive line and your physical infringe chance and cedric. Oh boy you can't brandon. Shell and don't forget greg olsen because you've gotta have that good investment you know you don't have money to send them at this moment without bringing anybody back your seven million dollars under the lower sour salary. Yeah you can do some stuff right. I mean i'm six million bucks. You can ejei want new. You can always you can restructure with some people. I mean there's some things you can do. You can certainly restructure with. Russ i gotta keep having the conversation about the ba- look i'm going to keep beating the structure with you're gonna call mark rogers and ask him for a little give back on that. Well it's not really give back. They get the money. i mean. just a restructure. You hoping to get more money up front is really not that it's is always been we'll do a brady does not. That's not what i'm saying. I'm not saying that. This is just a restructure but my my my arrow is going to be squarely pointed at your seventeen million dollar a year linebacker who plays the same position as last year's first round pick look like played well and that's not a shot at bobby but i i you seen this too. Many times and sports guy gets paid an enormous amount of money. Guy doesn't produce at that level. Not that he's been batty's been great but has he produced like the best linebacker in the league in terms of turnovers. An impact plays the last two years. I think we would objectively say no. He hasn't and in the meantime. You drafted somebody at that position in the first round last year you you want money you want to try to fix what's going on your offensive line you try to fix and make your defense more impact like if you need. The money is ten million dollars cap saving sitting right there. Where else is it gonna come from. Are you going to pay dunlap. Fourteen mill. He sure played life better. He sure played like he deserved it. I would you know if you've got that little your your little spot track pulled up there howdy wrestles at thirty five mill- yeah he's gonna make thirty two on the cap. Bobby makes seventeen on the cap. Duane brown tyler lockett. Sharon reed thirteen fourteen. Jarran reed may not be back. That's another one. Although he was probably of more impact players this year terms of you know actually making plays soldier wayne browns. What eleven twelve million thirteen. Yeah yeah. I mean those are the conversations that you're gonna have to have this year. You don't have draft capital but unfortunately the players you're talking about played. The positions kreiner the better position players. The positions you have need at yes. And why are you in that spot because you had a bunch of those drafts in before last year. That didn't turn out any blue chippers that would be playing and making those impact plays. So let's go back to the very beginning of today's show. Let's go back to the beginning of the lesson. Good news bad news. No news john. Schneider is back because of a great culture and some really nice moves to salvage mistakes. Write what he did with dunlap what he did with some great trades and relationships but those drafts where they didn't get bubkas..

"News. No news the seahawks parted ways with their now former offensive coordinator. Brian shot while there's good news it was time and i don't know whether we should say the seahawks part ways shoddy up and left home went home but i will say that this is good news. I don't know that shoddy himself was the problem. But i think it is time for some level of change and if there are if there are issues festering under the surface the offensive coordinator search is going to press them out to the to the top right. He's going to get. It's going to get them out in the open. And i think that's important if there's a russ pete split if their issues between the two of them let it come out let it sort itself out. Let them find a way to talk it through and find and settle on an offensive coordinator. That is going to be right for both of them. Because otherwise i think you get sniping and backed rooms and locker room lawyering and talking to the press and anonymous sources. I don't want all that stuff. I think i think that the search more than anything will ultimately have to be good for the seahawks or it will show that you've got a a an unresolvable problem. So good news. yeah. I'm gonna say i'm going to spend this one too bad news and i'm going to spin it. Their because now russ is going to have his third. Oc in ten years. And you know that any number a low number or an average number. I don't know. Aaron rodgers had the same one for fourteen years. The the guy we talked about drew brees and the same one for fifteen years. Mahomes has had the same owner going. Gonna have the same one and andy. Reid is the playcaller in the in the horsepower. There as long as and he's going to be there another five. I mean you see that. Those guys have a lot of continuity in that voice. Now a lot of. That's because of success and i would also say you score more points than any seahawks team in the history of the hawks. This year you also had russell throwing forty touchdown passes and finishing seventh in the league in passer rating. You also won twelve games. I mean you you. You've had a ton of success there. And i'm just going to spin. It is bad news because russell trusted. I think shoddy implicitly and ultimately pete can never gain that trust and and they could. They could never work together so to your point about who you're going to bring in. Do we think all of a sudden that pete's going to stop meddling we think all of a sudden the pete's just implicitly trust who that is there you know so you know i take your points and i think they're very very valid and i can certainly spin it that way but i think it is just as equally a double edged sword of him and be careful for change for change's sake and and you know just because you bring somebody new in here. Well then you've got to build report relationship with him. If russ has none then can they gain the trust and what about the rest of the offensive group and what about pizza and what about the overall philosophy. How all of that is going to work. So you're starting at ground zero.
Steelers are expected to promote QB coach Matt Canada to offensive coordinator, per report
"NFL news. Former Maryland offensive coordinator and interim head coach Matt Canada is expected to be named The Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator recording to NFL media's Ian Rapoport. Canada was the Steelers quarterbacks coach in 2020, his first gig since leaving College Park.
Philadelphia Eagles head coaching search tracker
"Cody. Thanks for coming back on. I in the enemy man. How are you. I'm doing great great to be with you. I'm excited to talk some football absolutely and let's jump right in to the eagles. Coaching search here. Because more names get added to this list everyday to say that the eagles have cast a wide net would be understating it a little bit. You tweeted out. And i think it was either yesterday or today but as a recording. This on the fourteenth is was on the thirteenth. You tweeted out a whole list of names. We've got carolina offensive coordinator. Joe brady tennis offensive coordinator arthur smith san francisco defensive coordinator robert soleil tampa bay defensive coordinator. Todd bowles new england linebackers coach. John mayo kansas city quarterbacks coach mike kafka philadelphia assistant head coach do staley oklahoma head coach lincoln riley ohio state head coach ryan day. Cincinnati head. Coach luke fickle and more are coming each and every day and i know among eagles fans. You know we see this as a pretty dysfunctional team right now. We see this as an organization. That doesn't seem to know exactly what they're doing and we're skeptical as to whether or not a a really high profile coach is going to want to come here given the list of names here. Where are you at on this eagles. Coaching search as there really are just getting started right. Now yeah and we saw it just kellen more added today and obviously you know they're going to continue to cast the net and i think just in general. I think there's a little merit to the idea that you know when you compare openings. The eagles aren't A bursting with attraction just because of the situation. I mean Doug peterson clearly. If the reports are to be believed is is kind of worn down from from this run with eagles. And but i honestly don't put too much stock into this idea that they're undesirable because at the end of the day there's thirty two jobs. There's thirty two head. Coaching jobs in the nfl. We see guys in view with with teams like the jets and the jaguars every coaching cycle. Yes they sometimes have high picks so they sometimes have a lot of cap space but at the end of the day. It's nfl fell head coaching job. You can't tell me you know if you're joe brady and you're getting interest from all these teams. I mean you're not going to just not going to turn down the opportunity and so And eventually some of the spots are gonna get filled For me i mean i. I start for the eagles with looking at the offensive side of the ball. I know that's it's a big talking point. Jeffrey lurie with with you know really any eagles fan. That's been under or watching. Jeffey larry hires run. The team I i think really it comes down to are you going for You're gonna have to sacrifice somewhere. Because with somebody like joe brady even kellen moore. You're really banking on them. Being kind of an offensive mastermind and up and coming mastermind as opposed to this Person who's been around the league for years and respected and you know doug peterson even though he didn't have head coaching experience. Jeffrey loria himself talked about that emotional intelligence he talked about. Doug peterson former quarterback. In this league he had time under andy reid and so i. I think it's just a matter of where are they gonna sacrifice. Because if they go with robert. Sal the forty niners you're sacrificing. You might bring in a nice offensive coordinator with them but he may leave here for another head coaching job. And so what do they want. We're gonna find out.
New York Jets Hire Robert Saleh As Next Head Coach
"Robert sala is leaving the san francisco forty niners to become the head coach of the new york jets. The jets themselves tweeted out the news last night and adam schefter. Espn reported that solid is going to take passing game coordinator mike leflore with him to be as offensive coordinator in new york. Schefter added that sahlin. The jets have agreed to a five year contract in a tax to the monday morning. Quarterbacks albert breer gm john lynch said quote. Roberts earned this opportunity. He's a very smart tremendously. Gifted leader and ready for this challenge will miss him dearly but he's left as better and will be proud of all that he'll accomplish. The jets are very fortunate.
John Wolford out, Jared Goff will start for Rams
"Let's begin with the rams and their quarterback situation for the playoff game at lambeau field. What's the latest. Well look really john. Wolford hasn't taken any snap during practice this week and it's thursday but in the nfl world is really friday because these teams play saturday. And so john. Wolford hasn't taken any snaps that would seem to indicate their jared goff is on track to start saturday's game. Now the question is will the rams used wolford do they wanna try to bring him back at some portion the game. He brings a certain different element to that offense. And we'll see how that plays out here in the next forty eight hours. That's the chiefs offensive coordinator. Eric be enemy. Who got interviews with every team with a head. Coaching vacancy except for the houston texas. Right now it doesn't look like he's on track to get one. We'll see how this shakes out but in speaking to people around the league. They don't sound overly optimistic that the enemy's going to come out of this cycle with a job if he does that can be troubling for a lot of people. A lot of people still pulling from to get a job. We'll see whether one works out for him.
Broncos reach deal with Vikings' Paton to be GM
"The Broncos have hired Vikings personnel man George Payton to become the 13th, general manager in team history. They'd has spent 14 seasons in Minnesota, he worked with members of the current Broncos coaching staff. Here's a K a way NFL insider Benjamin Albright. From the pro player personnel side of the House and the college scouting side of the house. He was integral in working with Pat Shurmur. When Sherman was up there is the offensive coordinator and getting quarterbacks for Shermer during that run that they had with Sam Bradford in case Keenum. Peyton will get to work on turning around a Denver team that hasn't been to the playoffs since Peyton Manning retired. Our
Seattle Seahawks fire offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer

Alabama vs. Ohio State: Best of college football's national championship game
"Last night, Alabama wrapped up the college football season beating Ohio State the national championship game 52 to 24 behind one of the transcendent performances we've ever seen. In the national championship game from wide receiver Devante Smith, the Heisman Trophy winner had 12 catches 215 yards and three touchdowns. Nick Saban becomes the first to win national titles in three different decades, seven titles overall for saving in his coaching career, six in the last 12 years alone. According to reports with Alabama looking for an offensive coordinator or Steve Starkey Z and moving on to Texas. There's talk that Bill O'Brien will be Alabama's Next. Oh,
Dallas Cowboys fire defensive coordinator Mike Nolan and defensive line coach Jim Tomsula
"Do have some breaking news on friday afternoon. The first friday after the dallas cowboys season ended an unfortunate start the new year for their staff. That dallas cowboys. Making some you know some obvious news in a bit of surprise news the dallas cowboys announcing that defensive coordinator. Mike nolan defensive. Line coach jim. Tom soula have been let go. Have been whatever you wanna call it fire to buy the team. They will not be back in two thousand and twenty one. Mike nolan obviously oversaw. One of the worst defenses to ever live ever played in the nfl. And so we'd heard. Rumblings obviously had been reported different instances over kind of the last month that it was likely he was not going to be back although mike nolan. If you're somehow unaware is is rather chummy with mike mccarthy dallas cowboys head coach mike mccarthy they go way back in case. You forgot mike. Nolan was the head coach of the san francisco. Forty niners in two thousand and five and mike mccarthy offensive corner at the time that was of course the year. The forty niners took alex smith with a number one overall pick. Ironically the quarterback that won the division that they were together here. This season with the dallas cowboys. Jim thome soula was a head coach of the forty niners at one point in time himself albeit for only a year obviously following in the footsteps of jim harbaugh who got an extension today of all days again with the university of michigan so lots of symmetry going on here and so. Yeah i mean my canola thing. I think everybody saw coming a mile away. The jim thome solo thing is a bit of a surprise austin on youtube. Says i thought it said mccarthy and was like whoa still good to get rid of nolan and this is how every cowboys fan feels. And let's be frank. Let's be honest. We don't enjoy talking about people losing their jobs. People getting fired or things like that but this defense was among the worst again in the history of this game. The dallas cowboys last week. With their season on the line against an offense that had been anemic for most of the season the new york giants that was incidentally again. You talk about all. The irony here led by former dallas cowboys head coach jason garrett in the giants offensive coordinator who again to go kind of crazy circle reportedly had an interview today on friday with the los angeles chargers for their head coaching vacancy. But the cowboys new york with their season on the line and they got run over. I mean the new york giants before last week against the cowboys. The previous four games. The giants had not scored more than three points in a single first half in each of the four games. The giants played before the cowboys. They went into the locker room at halftime with no more than three points. They put twenty up in the first half against the cowboys. And that was kind of what the season was for the cowboys right. This never ending display of imperfection this never ending run of records getting broken records getting set and i just you know this was inevitable. I mean shutout. Of course to the all encompassing thanos. I mean this truly was inevitable. Reality a lotta people myself. Included wondered what took so long this week. It's a pair at the mike mccarthy and his staff overall were evaluating things doing kind of the final walk throughs and assessments in whatever time just came for them to move

And we certainly did all of that, but during the I think all the zoom meetings that we've done the past. You know whatever timeframe was. We were allowed to write really us to slow down and kind of be very detail oriented and are teaching approach, and sometimes we would have meetings where we would only get through to replays, and that was fantastic because you were meeting so many times a week for a certain amount of time that you weren't rushing to get to get on the field of practices. You were really not bound by any constrain of. You know getting on the field that makes sense so you could really really slow down the teaching of it and I thought. In. Very, difficult times, that was a positive aspect of something that hasn't slowed down. Because it never will slow down is recruiting, so you are! You're new to Eugene. You're new to a program you're asked in. You. Know I'm sure it's difficult enough to sort of hit the ground running with something. We responded with three top twenty five classes and. The Classes school history so to me. There's you start with how much positive? You know. The city, the school you know the success coach Chris Ball, you know the offense scheme. You know winning the Rosebowl. Finish number five in the country then. Certainly our track record of success in the system over the years I think he combined all those things and. It makes Oregon a very variable very very. Attractive destination for kids who were looking all right final question. What have been your impressions in the short time of Eugene Oregon your new home town you. Have you found meals you like? Have you found parks to walk a dog? You know, have you? Have you found at least some sort of routine in a very strange time with a with a brand new job? You're begging for routine.
