Jon Gruden Resigns as Raiders Coach Over Decade-Old Offensive Emails

"John Gruden has always been kind of a wild child in the NFL always been a little bit of a loose cannon, if you will. And I believe he was also he was also the coach of the Oakland Raiders in like the 90s. And then he went to the Buccaneers and led them to the Super Bowl very complicated. But then he rejoined the Raiders in 2018 after he was an analyst on Monday Night Football. Do you remember those things he used to sit down with the quarterbacks? And it was like Gruden's corner. I've never been a big fan of Jon Gruden. I'll be very honest. One in 2002, that's right, my memory's not too bad. I'm not going to be an apologist for Jon Gruden. Okay? I'm sure he lives a complicated life like most people in the NFL. But this recent saga involving in his resignation slash termination is disgusting. And the national Football Association is in many different ways. In enterprise that is built on a House of Cards. The entire structure of how many of the teams are filed as nonprofits on how almost every stadium is built thanks to taxpayer dollars. There's a lot of corruption that exists in the national football, the National Football League. And so it came out a couple days ago that John Gruden is going to be fired, or it has to speak out for his racist and homophobic emails over ten years ago. And I shrugged my shoulders and I actually didn't know where this one was going to go. Because John Gruden signed a ten year 100 million dollar deal with the Oakland Raiders. And now so he technically resigned whatever he says, I have resigned as the head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders. I love the Raiders and do not want to be distraction. Thank you to all the players coaches and staff and fan fans of raider nation. I'm sorry I never meant to hurt anyone, John Gruden. And so it was revealed in some of these emails. And based from what I've said, seen should have said something's probably not no, was he joking around in private in a context that none of us can understand? Yes. He incited Joe Biden, insulted Joe Biden I can't even say what he called Joe Biden on air. It's kind of hilarious. Called Roger Goodell, a certain name. I'm no fan of Roger Goodell. So if this whole thing is like a Roger Goodell, apology tour, but here's what really matters. Here's the question. In the National Football League, do they ever allow people to do bad things and continue to participate? Like murder. How about rate Ray Lewis and his legacy of the unsolved double murder? Or how about you remember this one? You remember ray rice, who literally punched his fiance in an elevator? It was an elevator, right? Which gained total notoriety following the indictment he was released by the ravens and suspended, and now rice would be reinstated after he successfully appealed the league's decision. And this whole thing with John Gruden is this question of should you be judged by things you have said in private ten years ago to destroy your current

"Those Oakland Raiders, They're now one of 11 teams that had to know in the National Football League After the first two weeks on this, 3rd and 10, you gotta hurry. Got it off in time. Toss, play overto, the writer's Jalen Recharge this time. And about the tight rope. What a play call Remember? High pitch couldn't get the grip and turned it over. And now a two touchdown lead. Must Bergen the call in Raiders radio? 9 20 with it to a no. For the Las Vegas Raiders. They get that victory 34 to 24 Derek are 28 of 38. 282 yards and three touchdowns, but Darren Waller he was the story's well, A tied in 12 catches 103 yards and one touchdown. It started great for the Saints early, Ian, but then later on 17 14 you made that point. Drew Brees, those that pic of the end of the first half. The Raiders turned into three points and they were able put some distance between them and the Saints, and they got a rough next four games and it comes to the Raiders. Patriots on the road next week. Buffalo Bills at home the week after that at Kansas City to next week, and then home versus Tampa Bay, the next four weeks a murderer's row of the beating the Saints tonight on Monday night football only if you saw it, Freddie at the end of the game, Jon Gruden, head coach of the Raiders, walking off the field and Comes a general manager Mike Mayock, and they had a big old Embrace right there in the end zone because they knew how big this game wass on. They're all big in a 16 game season, but some are just a little bit bigger than others. And when you have an opportunity To put away a team by the New Orleans Saints. You better do it, especially in your home opener in your new stadium. They found a way to do it. Derek Carr was the best quarterback in the field tonight, especially national television. People still wondering, OK, What about the Las Vegas Raiders? Beating a team like the Saints 18 that people know a play that people know and Drew Brees that's going to go a long way to opening some eyes when it comes to them. He's never not about this time. We give you a little something, something that could be a rant or could be a rave, But it's always something good that we like to call. Freddy and Fitzsimmons..

"They shipped him off to Oakland for a three and a five. And he has anything get on the field for a regular season game hated even make weak one. Why? Because he quit on the Oakland Raiders. The helmet didn't fit, And then he orchestrated his release from the Oakland Raiders so he could go join the Patriots. Antonio Brown is a quitter. We are far away from the Antonio Brown. That was a great football player that was also the hardest working football player. He may still be a great football player. But you can't tell May That there's no quit in him. Because the last two times that I've seen them we also the New England situation, but that barely even lasted But the last you know to situations when you look at Pittsburgh and Oakland. He quit. Hey, absolutely quit on both those teams. For Lamar Jackson. You want him? I could understand why you wanted and for Baltimore. It could make a ton of sense because right now you're already a Super Bowl contending team. So if he comes on in, and if he's a pain in the ass, you just cut him and you wave goodbye and you move on, and you're still a team that's gonna win double digit games and you're still going to be a team that is in the Super Bowl conversation. Well, hear one more from Lamar Jackson. This Lamar Jackson on why the ravenslocker room is the right fit for Mr Big Chess Room here is different from any other lucky guys. Our brotherhood going always outside north noise strictly inside wayward bodies over about what we have on all of you want to win, and I'll just tell him you want to win. 123 bottles All right. It's too You are an Oakland Raiders fan now Las Vegas Raider fan and I did hear the grunt that you just put out their on air. When you hear Lamar Jackson say, going back to the other quote, there's no quit with him. That's the type of guy we need in our locker room. I feel like our locker room is different than any other locker rooms. There's a brotherhood going on none of that outside noise. Strictly inside. When you hear Lamar Jackson simply just say there's no quit with him. Your blood probably boils to what 703 degrees. Yeah, absolutely. I mean, if there's anyone who defines quitting in the NFL right now, it's probably Antonio Brown. There might be another guy to I could think of. But Antonio Brown's at the top of that list like you said, I mean, Last off season with the Raiders was just a prime example. And I get it like he's a shiny toy. I was so excited when the Raiders got him as a great Derek Carr has a great weapon to throw to got it for three and five. You've got him for almost nothing, You know, even even when he was still in the Raiders playing with him in that, and you know, it was like this is great, like they finally have this star wide receiver, and it's just like hope, ruin it like he's If the Ravens sign him who you get his crown to Chiefs Theeighty champions because they are going toe win anything with Antonio Brown did they better hope they don't sign him. You can't expect anything too good for God to come from Antonio Brown anymore. Like you may be able to play him and he'll score a touchdown. But I would not expect it to last very long and this narrative. And I know players or players and when they're working out with someone when they're trying to recruit someone there going to be all positive and go happy go lucky about the guy and Marquis Hollywood. Brown is Antonio Brown's cousin. So there's maybe a relationship there and they're working out together. Baltimore. Like, Can you be a little realistic here? And Lamar Jackson. I remember meeting him at the Heisman Trophy presentation, always been a fan of his game. I was always someone that said the Mar Jackson should get the opportunity to be a quarterback when people were We're imploring and clamoring him to be a wide receiver. It was so stupid that conversation with that guy did in college. He deserved an opportunity to be an NFL starting quarterback and so far and he's not someone that is out spoken. He is someone that is pretty humble..

We're we're still in pandemic mode while we're recording this. Yup We're recording a bunch ahead of time, so you know who knows where we are when this comes out, but. Yeah so in recent weeks in in our current time line where we are right now. It seems that the only like sports thing that has happened in the last I. Don't know four to six months. NFL Draft Oh. People were so excited for the draft. It was finally sports thing is. That is live that we can watch. That means something, and it was just so much like it was basically like zoom screens, and they would show like this. Is this draft persons at their house in this draft person at their house and you know. Maybe they got the call, and then they stood up and cheered, and they were on the camera, and that was like people were so excited, just three. Sports. Just want the, and it's not even playing sports show Yeah Rama's of eventually. Yes, going to be able to play sports. Yes, and I talked with our friend Tara Shout Tara. The other day and she was like I'm so excited I'm so excited and looking forward to tonight. And I was like why she said because the bills are gonNA. Release the schedule for the fall. I was like Oh my God so. Late. So I'm trying to do my best to help. Bring some more sports related content to fill that D- to fill Azam because clearly there. Actually I was inspired from a couple of weeks ago and we talked with Father Brad. And he was talking about the new. Orleans Saints, an this. This one play at our liens superdome that really re revived the city Yup and it really made me think and so today we're doing. He could go all the way. This episode is on famous plays in football history I love this. This is great sell. The things going to be talking about they do come up. Trivia they are frequent references, I know that there's a lot of people out there that don't like sports, and then you go great a sports ball question by up like guys. It's fine. It's fine to like pop culture. Yeah, I like sports. It's fine to be a nerd. Whatever like whatever Ya is not a high Falutin. Thing the way that some o pretend that it is and we don't pretend that it's. You know. Oh, my Gosh! No, it's not sit. Nothing is sacred in trivial so anyway. Little Tangent, no, it's totally and you know what not for nothing I'm not somebody who watches sports on a regular basis, but I can appreciate it because you know what sports is just storytelling. It's another version of storytelling. It's a war. It's a battle. It's a battle of wits. It's a battle of strategies. It can be really engaging in. into thread to have in common with people to say like it's uniting about Buffalo. Bills Fan. You're all high liven rock down the street. Same thing like if I'm Pittsburgh and I. Somebody runs through a stop sign and I go to yell at them, but I see that they're stealing. I much less likely to flip out so. Wow, that's something I learned about you actually. Good I'll. Sure to keep that. It's something we all have in common common thread. ETC, so the thing is when you talk about. They come up a trivia. They are commonly referenced There are some of these things have had like big impacts on the sports, world and broadcasting, and that kind of thing, so oh, yeah. We're GONNA stay with the NFL. And I'M GONNA. Go in chronological order so the first one I'm talking about is called the Heidi game. This is November seventeenth, nineteen, sixty eight, and it was the New York jets versus the Oakland Raiders so. Kind of starts out your run of the mill Sunday. Football game between two rival teams, the jets and the raiders it ends up being notable because of its very exciting finish. Oakland ended up scoring two touchdowns in the final minute of the game to win the game, but the game got its name for a decision made by the Games television broadcaster NBC to break away from its coverage of the game, the East Coast to instead broadcast the television debut of the film Heidi causing many years to miss the raiders comeback

"Playoffs in twenty nineteen their opponents had a five twenty seven winning percentage back in twenty nineteen only the dolphins jets and patriots have tougher schedules coming into this season I got a twelve and four daughters will be featured in five primetime games four of those will be played at home at Levi's stadium this season one by the Oakland Raiders operators open up their new stadium do I said again Oakland the operators over Vegas the Las Vegas raiders open up their new stadium in Vegas week two against reserve the New Orleans Saints the readers of two prime time games this season week seven against Tampa Bay in week eleven against the Kansas City Chiefs should be a fun one and in golf Tom Brady Peyton manning Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson will get together for a a corona virus relief charity golf to some I guess Sir it's it's affordable to go into against two so they sent an update yeah so Michael Thomas did hold on may twenty fourth it raised about ten million dollars to play eighteen holes the nine best balls nine modified alternate shots no fans no cat is each player's gonna have his own car there's also some hilarious sound work Tom Brady and Peyton manning went back and forth each other yesterday we've got that for you as we return to the leadoff spot those are your half past headlines he sees the leadoff spot live from the KNBR grand Sierra resort and casino studios with your host Adam Copeland on KNBR one oh four five and six eighty three sports writer I don't know what's going on that it's Friday maybe I'm checked out said it was February calling the Oakland Raiders qualified is it to backward so yeah yes is dyslexic he writes your Moseley said what happened to your brain brought anybody got on me about real we are making the connection with her furniture shortly on the other side and get going on what should be a fun Friday morning here on K. and B. R. I told you before the break it for me Sunday night football is always the the the cream of the crop for the game of the week right I love the build up because I'm a big red zone di I was red zone from the countdown at nine fifty nine every Sunday morning that clocks ticking down until Scott Hansen given you the seven hours of commercial free football all the way up to the end of a red zone which is usually somewhere around four fifteen sometimes runs late in overtime game in the afternoon slate gets into the five o'clock hour than five twenty you get Sunday night football in its entirety I will say this after after red zone it is a little tough to go back to center and football and watch football catch some commercials it's nice watching football no commercials for eight straight hours I don't know how people watch football before red zone insane many of the playoffs in two different beast of course your team to the Superbowl you get three weeks of build up to two weeks to build up to get stressed out for that thing but some money on football for the last few weeks is kind of a dud last few seasons it seems like it's been more of a diet is far as games go I'm and I'm looking at some of the game's decent games seems like on the schedule this year for Monday Night Football week one Steelers of the giants of intimacy at Denver neither of those games really intrigued me but your your week once it'll be a really Kerrier all fired up just to get football back week to intrigues me New Orleans Saints at the Las Vegas raiders how bout that drew Brees gets to go open a legion stadium in Vegas that'll be a fun one that's the Monday night football game week two weeks three you get chiefs at raven's that's a hell of a game Pat Mahomes against I can star M. V. P. Lamar Jackson yeah Dave I'm a pull it up for you not bad for us she got you see you out there calling the raiders new stadium the death star yeah that's what somebody is probably mark Davis I have to go there to look at a lynching over half of the death star you know they blew it up well that's not bad he blew up the death star right we can't be doing that yeah call it a dance store that do smart star loses it's terrible dude what's that what's the what's the raider tie I mean I know the raiders Vader thing I get that there's there's all that stuff but well besides that would you know Darth Vader loses to writers right now he took that from ally allows data they call him Darth raider and we all know how he ended up yeah I don't know that's not a winning is not being here guys it's so weird phenomenon week for you to default in the Packers week five the LA Chargers after New Orleans Saints finally I'm five weeks you know we don't have a game on on prime time at least on Monday Night Football at the new LA stadium according to the schedule week six is another one that I like Arizona at Dallas I can be a fun one Kyler Murray Arizona's gonna be intriguing the stress that we're gonna get a lot of games were intrigued by what Tyler Murray and and Kliff Kingsbury in the Andre Hopkins can put together I'm still frightened about that there isn't a defense to I think in a lot of good moves this offseason specifically in the draft as there seems to be a pain in the **** I spoke to soon we'd seventy did bears after Williams is gonna be Nick Foles rolling into is into his old team the just through the Saint Louis rams right now he was out there was a cut by Fisher there last their first back in LA you should wear that with a badge of honor I patriots jets we can nine week ten Minnesota at the bears with eleven rams at the Buccaneers week twelve Seattle in Philadelphia we thirteen bills at Niners fourteen ravens at Browns fifteen Steelers Bengals in week sixteen buffalo at the New England Patriots bill Belichick still pulling Monday night football games out of assessment he still play Monday night football games against jets and the bills on Monday night what's that about I know my Cleveland wasn't available this Tom Brady get one Monday night game with bill Belichick to hold on to the schedule real quick Tom Brady about ten years of the long queue looks get one Monday night game left to check on the flex to do enough we didn't we had a check on the Sunday night will they be getting closer to Sunday yeah probably a lot of Thursday and Sunday night games and will you get one Thursday I think because for your whole thing out of whack all right I think it one guaranteed there and they can't do that to Tom the teachers retirement whack stuff to do anyway and you know we tried to do it yesterday was Peyton manning they sit down at this this zoom meeting is Peyton manning Tom Brady Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson talking about their their little their goals charity event that they're going to do I guess it's like the match to write with tiger and Phil they donated to charity in this after thanksgiving and now they're doing this to raise some money for this the cover nineteen pandemic so doing this meeting and what we have first and we have we have Tom Brady first Tom Brady sitting there and and do these guys also the competition you know four appearances mobile for for Payton nine for Tom Brady they squared off against each other a whole bunch of times in the postseason and other bodies right other friends they're doing this this this charity events here's Tom Brady with his thoughts on the make up of the two teams because I think it's I think it's Tom and Phil is that right I believe it's Tom and Phil against Peyton tiger isn't Tom Brady had to say about the team's wise final final actually thought I was going to tell your partner but then Peyton's dad called in and switch to team so so I decided to to get together and see if we could we could a take on so I'm excited I'm excited to get out there my golf isn't quite what you're probably was at one point but I got a good partner and you know we got some great competition so should be a lot of fun it's gonna be may twenty fourth that's the Sunday afternoon three o'clock eastern time so Tom taking a shot at to and I wanted to be with Tiger Woods in pain stabbed called oven change the team's obviously making fun of the Eli manning draft situation right with with him supposed to be going to the to the Chargers man said no I'm not going there all go to the New York Giants but I go to the charger swap that pick that's hysterical do that's really funny well paid man was going to be a down payment so numb and you want to take shots you should know their Florida with your your championship rings you're leaving New England I got some thoughts about where we're playing this tournament already the course you know the term it had to be in Florida you know after Tom's being the arrest of it was the state would have to be in Florida tiger not talk to the sheriff in Tampa he's going to be allowed to go to Palm Beach and I'll be honest I've never played Tom very well on his home turf and so maybe this is considered a neutral site yeah I would have loved to have had this tournament in a place where it all like Tom very much Indianapolis Denver Boston after he does have a trade them and broke their heart soul all of the church is the best we can probably do I think the teams are fair I think you know Phil chose the right partner in Tom together you know they have eleven championships tiger and I have seventeen the lie I counted right time okay so blatant that was pretty good by the way my paid me takes a shot of Tom he gets off the BAT refrain from Thomas out of the parking would supposed to be at a angle monitor vehicle water pretty good and then and then taking shots of the cities that don't like Tom anymore that's a pretty good one two shots of Boston New England is an area that's no longer a Tom Brady fan pretty good stuff pretty fun stuff so I'm honestly that wanted to be more entertaining than the the actual golf which itself I'd rather hear these guys sit back and and take shots at each other and rest so pretty good stuff all the other side will make the connection with Murph and mac will get rolling on a Friday morning this is came here one of four five and six ABC sports leader the leadoff spot with Adam Copeland on KNBR one oh four five and six eighty three sports leader everybody Mr T. here and the sports leader is teaming up with.

"Insurance we are live from the Robert Jones plumbing trap from the Oakland Raiders you talk about a team that maybe their biggest need is wide receiver we have not had a wide receiver goes so far in this draft here right now with the twelfth overall selection is Roger Goodell Jeremiah nobody's talking about I mean he does but you there are many first ever been a part of this draft including the first ever official draft selection by the Las Vegas raiders and I've got a right here so with the twelfth pick of the twenty twenty NFL draft the Las Vegas raiders select Henry Ruggs wide receiver Alabama the first wide receiver taken in the two thousand twenty NFL draft I think I called in the Oakland Raiders I get it yes I get a pass I still call the Chargers the San Diego Chargers I get three years to store for the raiders as the Oakland Raiders they are the Las Vegas raiders they take the first wide receiver in this draft one of two Alabama wide receivers that most expect to go early Henry Ruggs that draft choice a service of Robert Jones plumbing the world's friendliest plumbers the San Francisco forty Niners draft next thirteenth overall choice in a a pick they got from the the Indianapolis Colts first wide receiver off the board we've had a run on tackles we're getting to the the middle portion of of round number one we've been on the air Tony for about thirty five minutes we talked about what a lot of other teams are doing we've talked about the possibilities for the Bengals with the thirty third overall pick let's talk about the most important guy in this draft certainly for Bengals fans Joe burrow yeah the first time you watched him did you want him at all in twenty eighteen odd why watch probably one or two LSU game so just because you see was very close to getting Charles all right let's see what we would have right so that's kind of the the the lens through which I followed his career I can't say that I watched him critically at LSU when you watch him in twenty eighteen and then you're you're you're watching this year when when he blew up do you remember seeing things in twenty eighteen or not seeing things in twenty eighteen that when you watched him this past season showed up Fauria that were you know more more kids shoes differences from what he had been in his first year as a starter yeah that just the confidence level grew immensely and and people forget and it's been documented when you look at that twenty eighteen season Joe Barone decided and transferred late and we know this because again the UC was on that list so we gets there late which means he has less time with the receiving corps which means he has less time with the coaching staff it lets him play football a few years right he didn't play at Ohio state so he looked rusty he looked like he was a guy trying to learn on the fly and then you look at a guy this year supreme confidence control of everything in the offense our system around him that's very quarterback friendly look at look at the receiving corps look at the office of line one of his coaches nails office of coordinator of the Carolina Panthers alright they they had everything built around it but the keys to the car were his and I I I saw similar Brian Kelly's first year my junior year Brian Kelly took control of everything I had no say in stuff this is what we're running look over the sideline a runner senior year because you're in the system longer and you gain the confidence you have a little more control Joe burrow was the captain of everything this year and you saw the game by game the confidence grow the swag and then the intangibles of the foot work the vision the the timing on this past the accuracy all that fits in with no one more your receivers gonna be timely which is why we've we've talked about this all season is on board to get timely with a new set of receivers but it just it it all came together in the perfect storm for Joe burrow into came together the best college football season we've seen for a quarter of about four minutes left on the clock for the San Francisco forty Niners with the thirteenth overall pick in the two thousand twenty NFL draft I've I've to talked with people with whom I trust who look at that LSU offense in the Joe Brady helped Joe burrow run that they had massive success with fifteen or no national championship and then what I get is yeah you know what that's not that too far from what we run already the concepts are pretty similar yeah there nobody whose opinion I value when it comes to offense of football more more than yours it would seem to me that what L. as you did to get the best of the Joe burrow from a schematic standpoint the Bengals can do right in in large part because it looked like a pro system also they do have some pretty decent offensive players well the the weapons for the bangles the the the the stat that jumps off the the sheet to you about Joe borough and it's why surrounding Joe burrow with the best possible players is important is because they were N. five man protection twenty nineteen eighty three percent of the snaps what is firemen protection mean I means I get four sometimes five guys on past concepts right what's your birth rate at vision spread the ball around accuracy read the defense the year before when you saw sixteen touchdowns and Joe burrow struggle a little bit more six and seven man protections I'm not saying that's the only reason but there's undoubtedly based on the stats the Joe burrow thrives with firemen protection mmhm now you're talking about weapons for the Bengals AJ green Tyler Boyd John Ross maybe another receiver that said in this draft Joe Mixon the tight end position you and all that where does it start though you got to build a block with the other defense is bringing out you mentioned to lance Campbell for the ravens already tweeted a job or are looking before meeting you defenses in this league get excited about playing against a guy like Joe brokers they wanna shut Joe burrow down so you get all that to come together you better be able to protect him with five guys we are about a third of the way to the first round of the draft a first round a lot of people thought was going to be pretty draft heavy or pretty trade heavy I'm sorry we we've yet to see one a draft where people talk about the depth at wide receiver we've seen one come off the board so far the San Francisco forty Niners coming off a year where they went to the Superbowl the big knock on them all year was no skill guys George Kittle is great they got this transcended postseason from it were he Mostar Dave they've got a fantastic defensive front they traded from that with leading deforrest Buckner go to the to the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for the picture using right here but if ever there was a team that just screamed wide receiver it would be the San Francisco forty Niners while I'm on that position and by the way we do have a trade now that I say that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have traded into the thirteenth pick so Tom Brady's wanting what they moved up one spot they now have back to back selections thirteen and fourteen will get the particulars of the deal here in just a second but the Buccaneers will have the next two picks Tom Brady affect obviously extraordinarily all season for them but from a wide receiver standpoint give give give god forget the bangles for second will focus on them give me the guy who's available ones come off the board given the wide receiver you like the most and I I I I lean toward Jerry duty at Alabama just route running how quick he gets in and out of his cuts I know that Henry Ruggs was the speed guy but I'm looking in the NFL for consistency I'm looking for hands to me that's been Jerry Judy that that's been a guy watching him with two attack of our lower it again people praise to a to a good receiver still yes you're gonna see to go in the first round right so it's not just what Joe burrow head but man you you look at at the jury duty and that if it's not him Oklahoma I know it's a pass friendly offense see the lamb some of the stuff he does on tape the catches he makes the separation and then he gets what he quarterbacked loves and C. lamb yards after the catch that's what you want in an offense where you can find okay let me get it out quick let me get him it with with room to to operate CD Lehman Jerry duty for me also do you have that question in a more bangles centric direction in a few minutes the particulars of the deal Tampa Bay actually did swap picks so the Buccaneers move up to thirteen San Francisco moves down to fourteen San Francisco government no you don't they they swap spots San Francisco also gives the one hundred seventeenth overall pick and they give the to the Buccaneers the thirteenth pick and their last seventh round picks up so basically for what matters for tonight San Francisco and Tampa Bay trade spots this is an extra pick for the forty Niners who also have the second last pick in the first round San Francisco is going to pick next the Tampa Bay Buccaneers pick is is in we'll hear from Roger Goodell here in just a second start the Buccaneers what we have here on the clock for a second an active week they get rob Gronkowski incredibly active all season because they got arguably the greatest quarterback of all time and say what you want about how old he looked at the issue last year was not having dudes to throw two in Tampa Bay there's going to be a wealthy guys to get the ball to a for the football mad your you're talking Chris Godwin Mike Evans OJ Howard rob Gronkowski for arguably the best quarterback to ever play the game and the best quarterback to ever play the game outside of the year with the with Randy moss his he had a lead level receiver elements but great but is he had a guy that can stretch over the top since Randy moss like Mike Evans is he had the talent of a Chris Godwin and now you're adding growth which means what who are not receiving corps do you double team right does god would get okay Evans down the field do you double team both receivers okay now I got Gronk working one on one I got OJ Howard one on one this this is fascinating to me what Tampa Bay does here because you're thinking okay if if they moved up was simply when they were in San Francisco is going to get their guy uhhuh and the move up one spot you don't see that turn the dress I'm interested with this pic bankers Roger Goodell called well and thank you to all of our service members for your courage and sacrifice on behalf of our country San Francisco forty Niners have traded the thirteenth pick to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with the thirteenth pick in the twenty twenty NFL draft the Tampa Bay NFL Week 8 Monday Night Football Betting Picks: Miami Dolphins at Pittsburgh Steelers

"Welcome in to the the board podcast powered by Fox bet week eight Monday night football edition dolphins steelers y'all are pretty excited for which would be a barn burner of a football game I'm your host firm joined by my colleague coast the one the only pain insider lots of enthusiasm I'm trying pain I'm not a premature whistle blower like we saw in Nashville but I still haven't positive mindsets get this thing going believe it you can achieve it and it wasn't the results were looking for either the college or professional football rain six but we persevere we continue to plow ahead and no we have a long season left in front of us so as we do every Monday we'll start the good the bad and the ugly we of course Dr Chow waiting in the wings to break down what the JJ watt injury means for the Houston Texans and he'll update us and some of our favorite quarterbacks the pain. Let's go glass half full what did you see this weekend that had you excited and brimming with optimism where do we start so much Scott the forty niners because I always leave things are more impressive when prior to the game it's not supposed to look that way so we a significant professional money come in on Carolina so it makes the win even more impressive to me personally because I just feel like they exceeded expectation and I managed and I think we both did here right to avoid this game now we dead value is certainly on Carolina like numbers wise right when you look at the number got six six and a half earlier in the week like Mason Rudolph was catching that same number in his first start ever on the road so value is I get it but I think we talked Thursday which is like a horrific matchup right Carolina doesn't have left tackle Bosa continues to like full-blown just eat out there I think he's got the highest pressure rate he's on pace to set the highest pressure rate for any rookie in NFL history right now kyle kind of talked about this the one above it average pass defense he played he struggled against earlier in the season which was Jacksonville the forty niners would obviously be even tougher than that he was the most inaccurate quarterback in terms of completion percentage expectation of sixteen percent below expectations the worst so far this week and we saw that at there wasn't very good can't stop the run we talked about that Cohen Short once he went out for the season and there was a big check mark there offensively from what I'm what I'm seeing from the forty niners is is Kyle Shanahan is just ahead of his time with what he's doing even though it's very basic right it's I think he's in this concerts jokingly kind of the real inventor of the exotic smashmouth right the ball is just like spread around there's all these interchangeable parts wide receivers are getting handoffs but like at its core it's very simple offense and I think the scary part here todd is like you look or seven and no right now in the NFC but they're without their left tackle there without the right tackle there without their versatile full-back call us check and I think I could wrong about this and it's probably not worth the money was paid but I feel like Jimmy G. has another gear that we haven't seen yet either which makes this forty-nine seem really scary well and I think some of that's got to be by design if you're Kyle Shanahan why reveal all your cards when you don't have to right now and then there's no doubt that Jimmy G. High profile passing attack is somewhere there I imagine as they can can you to build chemistry with Emmanuel Sanders able to get into the end zone and his forty niners debut it makes his team even scarier and I know pain we don't talk a lot about futures here because guys don't have access turn prices and you Never WanNa do hyperbole but right now when you look at the NFC or the forty niners the team to beat the more complete package outside of experience levels than the New Orleans saints tough to you obviously love with the saints are doing especially defensively that front seven has really taken another step I do feel like whoever gets home field advantage because the saints home field advantage so massive you'd give the you'd leaned that way with ever team had home field advantage certainly the games get a little bit tougher here in the next few weeks off for the forty niners so we'll see what they're made of but man ah X. still kind of leaned saints especially if they were the team that got home field advantage going to be interesting NFC playoff picture definitely a number of teams on their best day more than capable of putting up crooked numbers and more importantly getting stops on the defensive side but aside from the forty niners pain or are there any other teams and our individual performances that really stood out to you Daniel Jones right if you're a giants fan you have to pretty encouraged in whether you could've met seventeen or six I mean that's it's kind of a relevant at this point you know and I liked I saw accuracy wise again delivered a completion percentage five and a half percent greater than expectations four touchdowns no picks and I think that that last part there with the no picks is really impressive when you look at how aggressive he was six most aggressive quarterback in week eight so far obviously two games tonight but of all the quarterbacks that have played so far six most aggressive and the other thing is when you look at how he's doing it right now in general young quarterback he's been pressured a shit ton right forty six percent of its drawbacks pressured on the season most in the NFL among qualifying quarterbacks and he's this young young he hasn't flinched yet so I I really like I think you have to be happy for your giants fan of what the future could be with Daniel Jones so fantastic performance although in a loss did did get back door there so I know a lot of giants backers were happy that was the sharp side again closed five and a half some places so Daniel Jones got the pros money and look good again that he did one ill advised throw cost him dearly early in the game came back up the fumble yeah it was the fumble that probably could have gone I mean you it's a turnover no matter how you slice it but interception fumble just not sure he's doing it to throw but for anybody to watch that game was interesting there was a bad penalty at the tail end of the first half where the giants allegedly rough the ultimate leads the three for the lions and changed the dynamic a little bit in that context wonder if the giants would have actually had a chance to win that game outright if things had played differently but for alliance do nothing but bad luck I guess they wrote a break or two in that extra appointments made things a little wonky to some of the decision making it the nail to me how to chase a two and it's one of those things where you just start chasing points and you open that Pandora's box and if you don't convert things continue to create that downward spiral but a good performance from Daniel Jones you mentioned his second career game over three hundred yards four touchdowns then a nice job against a depleted lions secondary with the good I want to add one other into it of course it was in a losing effort Mike Evans yet again puts up Gargantuan numbers eleven catches hundred ninety eight yards and two touchdowns but one of those things that I'm not quite sure why the bucks don't look for Evans and crunch time when he was the stat stuffer all game long and the titans apparently had no answer in their secondary starting to get doubled a little bit dried movement of the slot to get them open and got doubled again so you know he had forty four percent of the buccaneers area are gesture die but obviously not enough however no you want to praise him and you probably didn't turn on the game quick enough but he did have the bad drop on the opening drive in the end zone the bucks were forced to settle for three instead of seven I did I did see that drop bring it up I do want to ask you about that when you throw through a little bit of congestion I know Matt Melons in your hands catch the ball all right so I wanted to find out so you your opinion is now well documented around Mike Evans if you're going to be elite God damn elite all right so that that's where I'm going with it was just really annoying game not going to complain right side wrong result and you go into halftime with the two hundred fifteen yards seventy one yard edge you trail that's a problem and then I thought we were gold right you fight your way back you blow you get up six late in the third quarter and then you know you hope officials can do their job good for Devon white by the way rookie did a fantastic job there sniff out fake laid to feel them out it was like a WWF and I believe they're wwe now but I'm old so wwf like a clothesline he just sent the snapper into orbit there in the all clearly comes out its return for a touchdown of course they blow their whistle so you can't you can't review it and it was a turnover on downs anyways because it was fourth down so said of a seven air when bucks up three with under Ford ago we were still down four in the problem is that you know you're not gonna your situation where it's four down territory or not kicking field goal to cover the spread for the good guys chase kicked to feel go forty eight yarder right through the UPRIGHTS two minutes to go get outta dodge with a one point loss single text bruce and eh lepers no team bet the board it's all about covering the number not winning games outraged good guy might have done it now if the good come the bad and this one is tough for me to kind of put down pain because I think they were very good for three quarters but it's the kind of game that you have to win on the road you're at the tail end of it's been a mammoth road trip the Oakland raiders finishing the game against Houston Texans were nearly two yards per play better as far as net is concerned and you look they did give up some penalty yards and everything else they had the football a lot less but they had an excellent chance to win the game on the road they outscored in the fourth quarter and to Shawn Watts and make some let real place to get the Texans the outright victory Deshaun Watson in Hopkins it's like the Russell Wilson Lockwood combination those two geysers like carrying goddamn franchise right now because Bill Brian is just continues to be a mess anyways I hate being singular play guy but you're one and you have a chance to kind of I don't WanNa say ice the game with your offense but certainly go up eight or if you decided to be a savage go for the to to put it up nine and there is a plan like second and six from the Houston twenty four in Gruden calls a run play and you'll lose a yard and now you're backed up to third wall and then you Veasley incomplete there and and you settle for a field goal only go for I love Josh Jacobs but the Texans Defense is superior against the run than it is pass in the Texans secondary isn't link absolute shambles with injuries right and they were down another starter who got injured in the game and as an offense you got tyrone Williams back and Jones who you trade four finally like kind of got into the fold now that he understands the offense after you were healthy as you've been at receiver like virtually all season attack the weakness man put it in the air instead then do that in that one specific drive could've put him up potentially two scores if they'd went for two and you rely on your defense against Watson and you got burn so to me there is some some mismanagement there was some playcalling late in that game as you kind of alluded to but they did blow sure well you mentioned mismanagement pain and it's funny you use such a word choice where do we want to go to Chicago bears and how they handled their performance against the chargers so I didn't watch the game because I couldn't dedicate enough time to it I'm GonNa go back and actually watch today it's one of those games that was really intriguing to me because guys that uh yeah I work with love the charger so much and they with the chargers plus four and a half and plus four I didn't see it so when there's games that's where my guys like adamant that this is the side and I don't see it myself on my I gotTa really pay close attention to this and because I have add I can't do that with like watching games so two one on and watch today but as I'm like tracking the play by play and now that I'm like looking at the data we just download it charges were not decide and we had this debate all week long and you may see something different but the charges were not decide but I'll let you share what you saw from the data I mean I'm just looking at just like two hundred and thirty one total yards of offense in the year two thousand nineteen on the road and you're only getting what would have been like three point two closing number I don it doesn't look like just by all the data that that was the right side

"Worse start and we did today right I mean I. we were thrown out they were score touchdowns and it was it was a poor start so we all got it we all have to own that starts with me and we're disappointed that hurts right it hurts especially those in front of our fans but we also you know we fought hard and I thought the defense had a little better read of a rhythm there got into a little bit of a groove at times and did some good things and then offense where I thought I still thought you probably played really good football I mean as I just looked at it as the course of the game I thought to call the play good football other than that we got it we got to work to get better. not a good day. for the Indianapolis Colts. so much hype. so much zero sum. so much Andrew luck who. all kind of came to a crashing halt. Saturday afternoon at Lucas oil stadium as the colts fell to the Oakland Raiders churn Gruden in the Oakland Raiders of all things. home anymore never leave a whole planning the next week because I don't have a home thirty one to twenty four and as you heard Frank right head coach of the colts com their belly ninety three W. IBC rob Kendall infertility cats good morning thank you so much for joining us as you heard Frank right comment there a just a bad day all around for the colts it started bad it indeed bad all points in between were not great and just to again every loss hurts every losses is tough but that one yesterday especially hurt because the colts came into that ballgame. now with a lot of momentum on their side with a lot of people are thinking Hey this this team is totally turn this around and this is a team that is is maybe not even gonna miss interlocking of Jacoby percent maybe the answer and and he played okay he played okay he certainly had his his high moments and his long moments but it all again a a game that I think a lot of people thought the cold should've won and I was gonna be a momentum booster as they had to clean the city yeah what's the bounce over your head to Kansas city arguably the best team in the NFL for a Sunday night match up on October the six in the again. this seems credit they didn't fight back the did battle hard they did make a game of it the executives to tie the game late in the fourth quarter and then this happened also down by a touch down there were the two minute drill here they got all three of their time outs were set takes a shot because now he looks left fires that way. two. looking for Zak paschal and here is the thirty yard line that's a six for the raiders. again. it's weak for those weeks for were into week five no reason to hit the panic button no reason to absolute sound the alarm that the world is is cave again but when you're a team that is going to be fighting to make the playoffs like the coal tar I mean let's face it even with Andrew luck at thirteen that's around the margins by the rather margins I mean their team that maybe they would have won eleven games maybe they would have won nine games they're fighting for a playoff contention in the AFC they're not the patriots are not the chief that means you're fighting to make the playoffs every game matters and you have to beat the teams that you're supposed to be you're certain you certainly have to beat those teams at home. and when you don't have a guy like any under lock in your eighteen that is facing a bevy of injuries with will get into later on in the the program this morning this was the game you really needed to win ninety three W. I. B. C. rob Kendall and for its iPhone season it spread which to sprint and get a new light on a lot and I've done a lot of the meeting on the camera.

Patriots may soon have to deal with their first Antonio Brown issue and it has to do with his number

"We have to talk about the biggest storyline in the NFL Antonio Brown as it looks like the saga for Antonio in some ways is finally ending and in other ways. It's just beginning for number eighty four as Antonio uh-huh Brown signs a one year proved deal with the New England patriots and it's hilarious because there is so much speculation when all his shenanigans with the Oakland Raiders for going on that really it was just a grand master plan for Bill Bella check to somehow land the all world talent wide receiver in sure enough he gets released from the raiders and later that day signs deal with the New England patriots another huge weapon in the offense four. Tom Brady and this has shades of what Randy Moss did did when he was with the Oakland Raiders. Moss spent some time in Oakland during his games he played for the raiders. You could just see that the big hall of fame wide receivers hardest wasn't in it. He wasn't really producing for the raiders he was now running routes with this full heart. You can just tell that he wasn't the Randy Moss when he was sooner in Oakland and then he goes to the Patriots under Bill Belichick and has a career year a record setting year with Tom. Brady Brady threw for fifty touchdown passes does that offense was just a cold plays away from being the first team to go perfect nineteen in Oh as they were trying to catch the seventy two dolphins they lose of of course the super bowl to the tremendous comeback led by Eli Manning and the New York giants. Is this going to be just like that. Are we gonNA see a patriots team. That could possibly go undefeated after Sunday night. That's a very real possibility that defense for the Patriots absolutely shut down the steelers and and if they know they're gonna get just a boatload of points on the offensive side of the ball you know Bill Belichick GonNa give all of his time and effort to making sure that that defense is ready eighty each and every week for their match. Make sure everyone's healthy ready to go that the scheme is right and we very well could see a run at history again in New England might right sound a bit presumptuous just in week one but the steelers are a classic. AFC favorite especially when they had the big three Bell Brown and Rothlisburger now with two of those three pieces Gone Smith Schuster looks to pick up the slack for Antonio Brown but now yet to find someone to pick up the slack for Juju at that wide receivers Chris to spot you also gotta be be frank here that James Connor is not living on bell. We saw that in that game Sunday night so the steelers were still a good test defensively civilly always are fantastic and brady made them just look like a peewee football team out there as he had no problem going for thirty three points in that game and pass over three hundred honored yards. You put a be in that mix with Josh Gordon Julian Edelman the running back tandem of James White as well as Sony Michelle is going to be a really tough challenge to beat this patriots team and because of that you who who's to say I mean they they could do it. They could do it you. You can't say they can't there. There is a real world possibility with the addition of Antonio Brown that the Patriots could make some history but now we gotta look back at how this came to be an Antonio oneal brown you could tell really from the Gecko once he got into camp once he started running some routes with Derek Carr in this raiders offense something clicked in his head that he did not want. I WANNA be in Oakland. I mean he did the cryotherapy happens and you chalk that up to operator malfunction with the frostbite on the feet then he goes on this insane escapade with the helmet trying to get all that taken care of in think in trying to use his old helmet. He's used forever he. He's had six months to do it and he doesn't think that's enough time to find a new helmet. I mean he's not looking for new kidney. He just needs a helmet you. There's ways to figure that out to make it fit and make it. It'd be comfortable everyone else in the NFL did it why couldn't he that becomes an issue. He's stays out of training camp. He doesn't do the walk throughs. The helmet issue did not mean he couldn't couldn't practice with the team he did that on his own accord and then he goes after the general manager of the raiders after he gets fine for actions he knows our final. He did them with that in mind. There wasn't like that fine just came out of the sky on him and Mike mayock gets verbally costed by Antonio Brown he goes on a barrage. I use of slayer of slurs cuss words to Mike May Auchan your raiders still still planned on playing him in there Monday night game against the broncos broncos that says a lot about the raiders as an organization that they were willing to take this abuse from Antonio Brown and take all this Prima Donna behavior behavior that was happening with Ab and still play him Monday night when he's barely practice with the team we talked earlier in the season here here on this show about how Antonio Brown by taking all this media attention has helped the raiders rookies developed because they haven't had to deal with it and that's still true in the lot of the raiders rookies have talked talked about in themselves and the second year players have said by having Antonio Brown. It's been nice that they haven't had to deal with the media coverage and hard knocks and that was really a lot more centered around Antonio Brown but he's also had a terrible example as an a way to conduct yourself as professional with what he's done with the raiders clearly didn't want to be there show the the reaction video when he finally gets released from the raiders and all of that finally goes down and I think the raiders are better off for it you if you're going to establish a new culture in Oakland. You can't have this going on in your locker room on your sideline. You need to get Antonio Brown out of out of there if he wants out all the better let him go you cut your losses just saved a lot of money by voting that twenty nine million that you would yet. You'RE GONNA pay him over the three years Antonio Brown you get your wish you go you get to play for the Patriots I think both sides can kind of wash their hands of the issue but now the rest of the NFL has to deal with the Patriots and Tom Brady having Tony Brown as viable and very real. You'll weapon for them

"Me as well at lower your fifteen thirty so this is just beginning for the Oakland Raiders and to me this whole Antonio brown helmet thing is is hilarious and just because we have an NFL superstar a guy that you could argue I don't think successfully but I guess you could argue is the best wide receiver in the sport there's a lot of other guys that would have something to say about that primarily from my money Michael Thomas but none the less the the centerpiece of the Oakland Raiders offseason overhaul has practiced one time Annie's dealing with frostbitten feet and and I I I that's no laughing matter that's fine that's not something I thought I would be talking and talking about last week and frankly wow I didn't really think I beginning I'd be beginning this week talking about Antonio brown's helmet and the fact that he doesn't like his helmet and the fact that he wants a different helmet and the fact that he has reportedly threatened to not play football anymore and forgot roughly thirty million dollars in guarantees and less he's allowed to play with his helmet on Friday ESPN's Adam Schefter reported the Browns not gonna play football unless he's allowed to use as all hell but now the helmet is believed to be a ten year old should advantage model which the company no longer makes and is thus no longer certified by the national operating committee for standards and athletic equipment now raise your hand if you had any idea before Friday that there's a such a thing called the national operating committee for standards and athletic equipment the N. O. C. S. H. E. you will not certify any helmet that is ten years old and as part of the NFL policy which is collectively bargained the NFLPA has something to say about this if if the N. O. C. S. eighty doesn't certified helmet well then players can't use of another been other high profile players like Tom Brady Aaron Rodgers as well as quote a handful of raiders players according to a league source that have balked at the change but have since decided to go ahead and comply and use the helmet because well it's a rule and they have no choice now it's only around for his part you might be wondering well wait a minute what's is issue with the new helmet he believes that the newly certified helmets protrude out and inhibit his vision so he had a conference call on Friday with an independent arbitrator there has not been a ruling that has been issued sources tell Adam Schefter one could come as early as this week should brown where the home and in the game the team is liable for a fine so this is been something that has been coming down the pike for a while players have known about this for a year as a matter of fact a handful of guys were grandfathered in last year to use their old helmets including Tom Brady so but now Tom Brady like every other player in the National Football League not named Antonio brown whether they like it or not is using the no helmet so according to a Montana bomb our NFL front office insider event Tonia brown does walk away from football he'd be walking away from about a thirty million dollar guarantee from the Oakland Raiders so you are probably where I am with this assuming that at some point before week one Antonio brown will find a summit but the funny thing about this Danny is we're just now starting this because the Oakland Raiders were on hard knocks and I pray that that tomorrow night on HBO we we get a good glimpse inside the inner workings of the raiders as it relates to this Antonio brown helmet thing and maybe we get a sense of how Jon Gruden really feels because the raiders head coach has to be privately singing a different tune that he is publicly when after opens preseason game against the LA rams this weekend he publicly supported his helmet was wide receiver I support this guy and I think that's what needs to be said I don't know what anybody's right now what anybody thinks but is this foot injury wasn't his fault you know this was a total accident as it was really wasn't his fault and is in a serious injury I know some people are smart and had it but it's really not a laughing matter the guys is is was hurt he's innocent it into anything wrong and the helmet thing is a personal matter to him you know he has a strong feeling about a what he's worn on his head and we're support and we understand the league's position as well so worth tosspot and we hope Antonio is back here soon because he's exciting to be around I'm excited I got some place warm I hope we can start call he's Jon Gruden is doing the right thing because of the if he criticizes the player this just snowballs and rolls out of control and it gets worse so he's doing the right thing but and maybe the hard knocks cameras catch this I I would love to be were ever Jon Gruden was in his office wherever the practice field whatever he was when when he found out Hey your your your star wide receiver the guy you gave up a couple of pics for he might not play anymore because he's upset about his helmet I mean think of everything you know about Jon Gruden for that matter their new GM in Oakland is Mike mail longtime NFL network analyst I mean these are for lack of a better term sort of old school football dudes like hardcore football guys think of everything you know about those two guys and and just imagine what their reactions in private and may be privy to the NFL films cameras for hard knocks just think about what their reactions were when they found out that Antonio brown might not play this year because he's upset about a helmet first and last on the SP and radio and ESPN out mowing your filling in for Jason fits now a lot of us saw this coming and if you're the Oakland Raiders maybe you saw this coming I don't know if you're a raiders fan those of us from outside saw this coming I think what's funny about it is for a team that has Montez perfect and Richie incognito who can be described as volatile personalities and and I thought I certainly think you can use that word to describe Antonio brown what we haven't even gotten to the season yet we we haven't even gotten to week one we haven't even gotten to the heart of the pre season this whole thing is just beginning I mean there are people who for months have thought the Oakland Raiders are gonna be a dumpster fire at some point because of all these personalities all these different dynamics I think we thought that maybe an actual game would be played before we solve things blow up and that's not to say that they are necessarily blowing up with the raiders but when this is starting here after just one preseason game in fact leading up to the first preseason game you just wonder what it's going to be like when we get to the heart of the season especially if things go wrong for the Oakland Raiders we have a guy here and it it's only around this is clear to me this is a guy who just things the rules don't apply to him and this is not the first time we said this this is a guy who went AWOL in his team before a must win week seventeen game last year with the Pittsburgh Steelers this is a guide frankly I didn't think that was this was that big of a deal but who went in the locker room after a playoff win in Kansas city a couple years ago decided to go on Facebook live it again that's that's just not something you do it's it's it's a guy who believes that the roles whether they're hard and fast rules like here's the helmet you could use or a role that is sort of in many respects on written about what you do in the locker room after a playoff game he believes the rules do not apply to him Jesse Washington from the undefeated says he believes that could be because Antonio brown social media life has become his real life I support this guy unite I think it's clear at this point that this brother Antonio brown is having some problems in his personal life is having some problems discerning reality from social media and I really hope that he gets on track and have some folks who can help them to get back to reality because he's a very talented person and not a bad guy the signs have been there for a long time if anybody was really willing to look and we were frequently overlooking it because of his talent and his charisma and his social media yeah I stopped short of saying a bad guy I would say maybe bad teammate and I believe there's probably people in Pittsburgh who would agree with that and and I would say maybe somebody whose priorities are perhaps a little bit misplaced or somebody who's perhaps disconnected from reality thinking that the NFL is going to make an exception by the way I've seen that suggested let's just make an exception form do do do we really want to go down that road first of all the NFL and I've I've seen it reported in the athletic that Antonio brown is is going to hold the NFL liable if you where is the new helmet and gets injured can can you imagine what would happen if you were the old helmet not certified and then he gets injured he's gonna hold them liable for that as well so I I've seen it suggested go ahead to make the exception think of all the equipment changes that have probably not been that popular with players over the years or the different player safety initiatives that the NFL is put into place in recent seasons think of what kind of slippery slope we'd be going down if we started to make exceptions for individual players who don't like a certain initiative or certain piece of equipment we are not going to do that now this is and again this helmet rule this is been clear and understood for a while now Antonio brown knew this was coming as a matter of fact were helmet manufacturers sending him helmets during the off season to help him find the one that he was comfortable with here is ESPN NFL injury experts to find your bell that turns were given a year or two grandfathered into a new helmet Tom Brady Aaron Rodgers they've done it everybody knew this was they knew was coming and the list is posted in every locker room they've been working with equipment managers the NFL and NFLPA so this is not a surprise this did not just come about a couple months ago yeah didn't come about a couple of months ago you saw this coming and a free the Oakland Raiders you saw this coming as well maybe not the whole thing necessarily but you saw this coming you were going to acquire a player who has been described as selfish at times this is selfish in my opinion who's the who's been described as having misplaced priorities these are misplaced priorities who's been described as having a bad to make everybody solve these things coming Antonio brown saw coming we're gonna have a new helmet the Oakland Raiders saw coming or should have seen it coming you have a guy here who's not the most mature guy he's not adults look I'm I I may a Cincinnati Bengals fan is that what you want about that franchise which has long been defined by guys who are adults but their star wide receiver consummate pro total adult AJ green Antonio brown senator dole at least mentally not an adult aids so take your old home to go home if you want to leave thirty million dollars on the table but the bigger question the bigger issue is the Oakland Raiders going out and making this guy a huge priority to solve season and then him doing something that just seems oddly on brand for him and him doing this weeks before they play a game maybe you didn't see the time in coming in for John heard and Mike Mayock but if you're a raiders fan let's be honest Antonio brown being at the center of a controversy that is all about him.

"Program it's our one on this Wednesday den and the den and stand Patrick shown glad to have you on board debut of hard knocks last night with the Oakland Raiders had a little bit of everything and that's what's great about this program year in and year out they find those little nuggets there Jon Gruden B. and Jon Gruden the quarterback playing with his kids the long shot defensive tackle getting caught rookies doing fun activities like riding horses and then there was the element of Antonio brown trying to deal with foot issues more on that coming up I was looking for a little more drama here and we'll probably get that because this is the raiders but there's always something going on on hard docks they stick to a great formula on one hand the show gives incredible access but there's a promotional value here it's produced by NFL films and well done it's about celebrating the sport they don't want it to be too edgy there but last night some old videos came out on that famous poem the autumn wind is a raider and then the clip of John Madden playing on the blocking sleds nothing too crazy so far but if you're jonesing for football it's gonna survey nice little appetizer here's we get ready for the regular season here's a poll question today here's a question for this audience based off last night's hard knocks the raiders are either going to be completely awful or decent good anybody have a strong feeling based off last night are they going to be bad or they're gonna be good set up a stop ox Aussies acquisitions quality no there's just the episode just the feel of camp how many times have you watched hard knocks then you go when they're going to be exciting there's there's a nice spirit there or all boy this doesn't look good now we know the Browns were going to be very good a couple years ago but then you watch hard knocks sitting you really knew that the Browns probably we're going to be very good because it started with you Jackson and if the coaches have editorial control here in you let that one segment that one exchange with your assistant coaches in who I die question your decisions are gonna make during the game yeah here's what I thought based off just the episode I don't know anything about John grid except for what I see on TV he comes off as a guy who likes to tell about the old days and kind of this tough guy let's go hit a mentality but it feels like his players look at him as kind of a goof a John of the names of rookie safety basically was telling into his face I'm not gonna do which is say it'll not to hit during shorts and helmets we also didn't want to be called rook yeah and this guy Abrahams was a rookie usually the first to closely yeah I just one hit somebody's like what I'm telling you not to do it I'll get ready can't get rid of my first round pick it just feels like John grins kind of has a fun goofy mentality I don't know if the players respected this is based on the TV show well he was on a TV show when he did Monday Night Football he became a personality that's how all these kids no Jon Gruden I'm going to guess most of these players have no idea when Jon Gruden coach it's like this new generation had no idea the John Madden was actually a hall of fame football coach I I I remembered this was years ago and so we said wait wait think the guy from Madden was a football coach and then you go here I think you one hundred games won a Superbowl manhole Famer maybe they're like lost on this I think these players probably look at Jon Gruden is this guy who's a little goofy there has some fun and maybe not that guy who is we all thought of as a disciplinarian when he which was the head coach yes it it feels like Jon Gruden is making all of last year's jokes this year okay sits down his iPad invent awhile since I did this what's this we allowed to do this here today I would like to thank your coach last year you figured all this stuff out some kind of what's it called a complications officer it yet what yet compliance yeah that's the thing that really got a lot to do these things here yeah it's the same stuff you have to do last year dude I can you spell compliance much less following what weight was even trying to make good TV because that's what I want I really wonder now because Gruden knew what TV was all about it's about content I don't know if he's trying to create contact I hope not for his sake but I hope so for us as viewers well he's definitely creating content in the impression that the game is passed as noted he's created that illusion for sure because it everything is I am back in my day we used to play more like this and now we gotta do that see now I do that by you just sound like some old fogey that sheds no business coaching anymore in the modern game yeah Mike love it Gruden is a hundred percent finding the camera there's no I mean Jonathan neighbor in the set he is now he don't ever know Gruden knows that cameras there I am positive he's completely different as far as always Mister nice guy grin supposed to be the meanest coach in the NFL unless he's mellowed over the years he was supposed to be like bill Parcells yelling at everybody well he still yelling at people but not like in a man he it's more like it seems that a character re ally someone playing Jon Gruden was sometimes you don't know you become something you it's called a caricature and now died I've seen this before where you don't know that you're becoming something or what people expect of you and then you to sort of embrace that and I don't know if Jon Gruden is is Jon Gruden caricature it feels like that yeah pretty yet everybody standing up with the team meeting hugging shaking hands get to know your teammates is that this alumni thing it was encouraging everybody you know get to know it each others families is picking up kids inviting people over for dinner with his wife and just we sort this side of coach would you don't know our only that is with a hard knocks him yes you you know what I thought we also saw a side of Derek Carr that I thought was tremendously entertaining and that he there's this scene where he he's clearly oiled up his arms I mean these things are glowing and and they're really impressive it's got cut always got a cut off switch yeah and it looks like a guy who's like hitting the gym hard or whatever and his teammates are like do you all do none in well you just couldn't admit like all right yeah I did know some sunblock of you at arms like this you do too they did what social media was in kinda Derek Carr last night either I don't think social media is going to be kind to Derek Carr this season but when you work out or you want people to know you worked out then you loop up and that's what he did the he had his arms all oiled up in out there wanted everybody to see make love in their car has a singer he blocks and if all writers on Twitter I'm back now Betty I don't think he's black T. P. showbiz black hundreds and hundreds of writers they all hate him anyway he's the only like active quarterback blocks people is very sensitive on Twitter and I never heard that but he's always been great with that he's always been really fun on our show yeah he's fine many made you know you did ask who your eyeliner as a rookie yeah because it looks like the lead singer of Billie Joe Armstrong yeah Green Day we agreed to he checked in from the bay area yes to confirm he said he was not wearing a he did say that but he loved it I was hysterical he doesn't come across as a guy like to laugh at himself no no probably not but but you know what after awhile though I I I'm a little sympathetic to him because you know you could you come in you have you surprise people well then questioned his toughness he got hurt was he if the raiders could I really believe that the raiders could have gotten column or they would have they would have whatever they would have said Hey a Derek you got plenty of time to oil up with some other team because we're gonna take other merry but they have like a sixty second montage last night of just the coaches and Gruden praising their great Pat Scott cat that's a good answer look at the look at on Kurt great pass Derek way to go great job Derek grape as but do you think that's one of those we got a building up yeah yeah yeah yeah you gotta keep Pat him on the back a great man look at the galley look at that throw the apple watch the whole episode and I'm waiting for the Antonio brown of course got a lot of air time last night he's a hard working guy Daschle doing workouts but they never told the reason why his feet were all jacked up I've seen stories yesterday as cryotherapy and it didn't work but you think the hard knocks would would put it to bed it in their episode was when here okay why isn't in turn around playing they said because of the condition of his feet you can I please press enter they never said the reason I was wondering if that was going to be the tease for next week thank you Gruden brings him in and says dite tell me the story like what happened in the feet I what can cry cry on my shoulder here tell me what's going on here with your feet yeah I'm a club and they didn't hit vantage point is perfect not seen anything Peterman not seen the two big story lines that people like incognito was incognito for the most part perfect I thought would make a cameo Nathan Peterson it's it's fine Peterman because it's fun because you have Gruden who's already complimented him in and I think that immediately sent shock waves throughout the league of all my god Gruden's lost it he's complimenting him I think I think you make love and myself and John Brunner the only three people who have said ice things about native yeah it's hard to get hired by the day yeah and I haven't said something nice in a couple of years Gruden sees a man is like you know Hey I see something here and going on now I like Nathan but I I don't even see it they also made into rookie running back Josh Jacobs who is like a fantasy bottle rocket he's going top ten yeah but you don't know how personable they are that you're trying to make good TV then that's why you'll see the guy who's trying to make the team with a guy who's married who's got a couple of kids and you're always wife is pregnant with their third and he's trying to make it in you can't Mike of everybody but that's what you're looking for that's the formula with hard knocks is you get a coach who is quotable charismatic affable available and then you kind of go from there big because one should be under the code signs off on doing it then it feels like you know the players are going to do it as well yeah make love I had an interesting question before the show is the Vegas his latest move looming over this team is hard to predict the team that's about to move can be like this really successful playoff teams because it doesn't have to disrupt everything in some way it's coming next year yeah but I don't I'd I wouldn't be bothered by it like all the looming moved to Vegas all right I got what eight months before I have to think about that nine months well when the member they traded Khalil Mack and was like well they're just waiting for Vegas anyway but then they went out into the open and so yeah I don't know what their time frame is because I thought you know what they made a good deal in in trading away Amari Cooper include mac if you were gearing up for Vegas or you're gonna have draft picks there and maybe you get to a ma'am more Lawrence down the road I I don't know like and you know I trust Mike may I ask that he has a game plan there I don't know what the game plan is but it felt like going after Antonio brown it wasn't Hey wait till next year this year they were saying work we're going to compete you're already in a tough division tough division with the chiefs and Chargers and you know what are the raiders who are the raiders are the a six win team seven win team all goes well eight eight here is Jon Gruden not answering any more questions about and Tonio brown's heat where one on the field I'm not going to answer any more questions.

"So and then after the season you know, he reached on right away this year. And so, you know, we I came over here couple times, spent some time and talked and so forth. And he visited with his coaches to what you know what role they could see I could feel from what they had or, or could maybe even developed into because I thought that was important that these guys here had a comfort level with everything. And so then the chance to come over and is with the coaches as well. So it's I'm excited about it. What, what did they say that sold you there because you had opportunities to do plenty of things right? You could have joined television network. You could've I'm sure probably consulted for an NFL team. You've probably could worked in NFL for all their a lot of things that you could have done. So what did you hear from them that drew you to the college game? Well, I think the energy here, that's in this building, obviously, we know that's what, what would Herman's all about that, if you, you walk in this building, and, and the, the coaches that he has in place here and the way they go about their jobs and so forth? It's impressive. And so I was really been impressed with that. And you know this couple of times I had a chance to come over and spend time here, obviously, I have a long relationship with the athletic director here, Ray Anderson, and the job that he's doing and his vision for what the future of ASU athletics. And as you football is and so rain, I had had a conversation or two. And, and, and so it's been able to to twelve fall into place, Margaret, devante birth, the former sun, devil have anything to say about you going back to his alma Mata. He was excited he he's known about this for about a month. And so he was he and his is beyond say they both went to school here. And so I got folks up from them right away. So. That I was glad to hear that they work. I did about it. Who would have thought that for the two thousand nineteen season that you would be a special adviser for hours, state involved, his birth would be playing linebacker for the Oakland Raiders. Well we're trying to get him to be able to do right now. It's just play linebacker put Oakland Raiders. So we stay in pretty good contact. How strange has it been for you to be out of the NFL? It really happened been. It's been avid. I haven't missed it. I'm enjoying everything that I had an opportunity to do. I enjoyed working for they until they pull the carpet from underneath. And, but it was fun. It was fun talking to coaches. It was fun being around the players and AMI opportunity. I was getting the learn a lot of new things. You know, spend time day as you know, up ESPN and days with the NFL network. So I was getting a chance to, to meet other people and do things, and, and people were very, very helpful to me, and help mentor me, and to maybe something different, but this is been exciting the, you know, I just had to go through those other things and decide what, what made sense for the future. And do you think you will miss it this fall when it starts up? I, I don't know I'm gonna have enough with Boeing, my hands right here to keep me very busy. I know you'll be the help out cokes there. But when the first Sunday of the NFL season, rolls around will you be so wrapped up in Arizona state's affairs or will you have a chance to watch the Bengals. Well, I don't think I will look, I will be watching the Bengals, you know, other than the fact that the players that are, are near and dear to my heart there. That's it. You know the players that I brought there. But other than that, that's my only interest in, in the Bengals went, they're doing is the players are successful when you bring up near and dear to your heart..

"They don't start till next hour until you and I on the phone, but it's here in our number one Scottie from North Carolina. I gotta you're on CBS sports radio. Hey, Jodie MAC level show. Man. Hey, I just wanted to ask you what you think about the the Clemson. I mean, the Oakland Raiders, and how you think they did with their trades. I didn't understand barrel as high as he was. I think he's good player date impetuous stiff, but I didn't necessarily believe he was the best to build the player number four. Or you've been the best available aperture at number four. Yes, I think John challen is gonna have a bigger impact than elite then clo- in peril. Now, not like Clara clo going to be a bust. He'll be nice player for them. But he will be forever tied and compared to the guys that they passed on. I didn't get Jacobs late in the first round with a really nice pick. They needed upgrade for their running game. I thought he was the best running back in a draft. And you're getting him down there as low as twenty four best player at a given position. That's not bad. I like the cornerback out of Clemson that they took in the second round, Trayvon Mullen. The rest of the guys I could look up scouting reports on them. I know I'll be honest with you. I don't recognize the names off the top of the head tight end from LSU. A name is semi familiar. I do like on Iran pro the only thing I did like about the raiders taken on Renfro to Clemson smallish wide receiver. I was one percent gone to New England patriot. He is Julian Edelman he has been the Julian of college football the last two to three years, and I just thought he would be a perfect fit with the patriots. I'm actually okay did not go there because I think he can play. And I think you would out the patriots. So I do also like your fifth round pick put it all together other than I question your first overall selection. I think the rate is pretty good draft. All righty, good luck to you raider nation, people out there. I thought for sure hundred rebel if there was a guy I was gonna pick after like the perjure everybody does their own mock first round nervy guys go into the second round the people do for living. We'll do all seven a guy like me. I'll do the first round. And that's it. If there was one player who's ready willing and able to pick after the third round always going to be going to go to the patriots and patriots kept pick wide receivers. And I said why I guess they're not getting Renfro. And he didn't he ended up with the raiders Kyle from Richmond's up on CBS sports radio. I, hey, Jodie MAC. Hey, I I'm colored. Thank you, bud. Appreciate your show. Thank you. Very good. Kind of all saw care thought about the draft. But kinda miss lessee shows. So just wanted to see where you stand on this. How would you rate tiger would and? That comeback. How would you rate that better than nj? But then LeBron James I'm going to hang up and let you speak on that. I know it's not about. Okay. I don't have a problem with widening the. Topics of conversation on any given day. I did it a couple of weeks. But it didn't get a chance to get. You didn't get a chance to get it. I don't see a comparison between tiger. And LeBron James. Lebron James is never got anywhere. So there's no comeback involved. Yes. Michael Jordan walked away twice wants to go play baseball came back one a bunch of championships again and then walked away. Again. We thought for good, and is I'll use this phrase ill-fated return to the wizards in Washington and sorry, Washington, pans, if you enjoy the time they got MJ down there. Good for you. It didn't really equipped anything an adding numbers to Michael's all-time resume. That was Michael Jordan's decision. Tiger Woods a big part of his necessity for comeback with injury tiger shot himself in a foot. Plenty with some of his behaviors, I'm not gonna give tiger complete pass since I wo-. There's nothing to do with tiger missing time because of something he did. Oh, yeah. That was but the biggest reason was that his body started breaking down on him, and he stayed the course, and he kept working at it and had two surgeries and adjusted swaying and talk to right people and got the right there. And yeah, he got back to the top of the mountain now stay we'll say he's got his extra added major. You know, he wants a couple more to catch Jack. He looked good enough to me. Like, this wasn't a one time thing or a lucky thing where everything went his way. I think he's right back there with the best with the DJ's with the speeds with the worries I think he can play with them in the three majors the rest of the year. So it is one of the greatest sports comeback to all time. But I don't compare it to either Michael Jordan, or I don't even know where you're coming from LeBron James that from Green Bay's up on CBS, sports radio ios AC Jody, thanks for taking my call. Love the show got it. But. Really excited about the Packers. Dress for the most part. I think that the GM went out got petting the pieces he needed for his defense both in free agency. And that first round of the draft really puts it on the defense to I think carry the team as they figure out the Fluor system and offense this year. We got a tight on for the future. The only thing I don't like is that they didn't address the inside linebacker position until the seventh round that is a spot where we are hurting dearly. And I feel that that's gonna come and bite us in the season. Now, I don't know what we're going to get as an under after free agent. Maybe something in the season signing. I don't know. But as it sets right now, that's the one spot. But I think might come back to trouble us later on. Here's the thing I'll do to somewhat swayed your fierce and talking to a bunch of people who work on the draft that their job that's their vocation leading up to the draft almost to a man. They all say it's a week inside linebacker draft. So if the Packers said, listen, we're not gonna we're not going to reach for an inside linebacker just because we have a need there. They finally felt the need to take one when it got to the seventh round. And I don't know this kid tie summers out of TCU at all. But if you're looking for after the first two inside linebackers came off the board. It was a pretty mediocre crew. And they didn't get either one of the top two. So the answer just wasn't to be had in the draft. If you say, they still have to upgrade their and maybe work on trade. And or see if there's anything left out there on the free agent market. They may go down that road. But it wasn't going to be done in the draft. And the thing about the Packer draft this year. You you always start from the top and work your way down. I think we're shining. Gary could be one of the bigger boomer bus guys strapped. If you tell me that we're shying Gary makes three pro bowls. Five years, and he gets double digit sacks for four years at a five year span. I'd say, okay, I can see that. Or if you told me we're shine Gary will be added a league within four years. I can also see that too. Because there are aspects of his game night, flat out love and other aspects. I don't so I I really do believe he's going to be a boomer bus guy eater. He's going to be great or the Packers will be talking about. Remember when we wasted the twelfth pick in the draft on Sean Gary five six seven years from now. I hope you're saying it works out. Well, he's pretty good young man from what I hear. But he has some accurate beauts that could go either way positively.

"Thirty minutes from Sal, you gotta find thirty minutes out of your schedule to educate us about football the way that you can I don't have another. Donovan McNab said he's been jumped on that. And listen I understand that the eagles or his teammates swarmed teammates or something known as you'll be upset. But I mean, well, he said was not wrong. What he said was not wrong. What they said about him was wrong. Five NFC championship games a Super Bowl appearance. The number two overall pick. I mean, you got to be kidding me. He had every right to say what he said. And I had no issue with it before I let you get on outta here. Our former colleague here, here's and Jon Gruden. I mean, you look at the Oakland Raiders in the picks that they have available to them. Some would say they're under the most pressure more. So than anybody else in the NFL to get this draft. Right. Because of what the move they made last year in accumulating these picks by moving Khalil, Mack and Amari Cooper. What are you say about that real quickly? I think it's gonna be difficult. Their their roster is totally depleted their defense really needs a lot of help. I don't know what they're gonna do. They got a lot of draft picks I received Jon Gruden I respect Mayock. But that's that's that division is not getting any easier. That's gonna be a tough row for the Oakland Raiders Sal paolantonio covering the New York Giants tonight for the NFL draft. You know, AVI, watching you buddy, all with the pressure education. "The newly acquired mister big chess. Antonio Brown of Tim Brown's Oakland Raiders, and then we'll also delve into the tyreek hill situation. We'll get the pro football hall of famers thoughts on that as well. Talking NC double A tournament though, and Nardi probably never sleeps this time of the year. His latest bracket is out. Here is one seeds Duke, Virginia, Gonzaga, North Carolina. What the one seats? Here's what's going to be compelling. You Duke in Virginia or locks to be one seats. What happens with North Carolina, Tennessee? You have three teams two spots. So do you go Gonzaga who did not win their conference championship? Do you go North Carolina? And North Carolina. They lost to Duke. Or do you go with Tennessee? Tennessee does beat Auburn and Tennessee Windsor conference championship. You have a real possibility for three ACC teams being number one seeds, Duke, Virginia and North Carolina. And if that's the case the ACC better than the national championship this year. Allan Duke or the field for the ACC though. You would saw Virginia North Carolina imply to win the championship just solely off the one seeds. They've seven ACC teams in the view of three being one seeds potentially be one seeds. You would hope at least one of those one seeds would win the national championship. Now. Did they go Gonzaga North Carolina? Tennessee. I'm assuming Tennessee is going to beat Auburn. It will be interesting to see who gets the four number one Duke in Virginia going to be good. Gonzaga, North Carolina Tennessee to separate those teams in how they're going to figure that out. Yeah. I'm not quite too. Sure. I'm really not now. Let me give you the twos. Kentucky Michigan state, Michigan, Tennessee. Currently that's already has. And I'll give you the threes as well. In order just reading the threes. LSU Texas Tech. You have Florida state and Houston now in terms of the bubble. Leonardo's last four in Arizona state temple Saint John's and TCU I four out if your teams on the bubble NC state Belmont, Texas, Indiana per Joe Lunardi. So you'd have your playing games of I ONA North Carolina central fairly Dickerson. And. Prairie view. Am somebody schools? You never hear of you also have temple TCU and Arizona state against Saint John's. That's the latest on the Leonardi bracket. Usually, I don't care for the I'll watch him as plugged in on Thursday and Friday. Having a background things like that. And you cook dinner, I'll watch Tuesday and Wednesday. Then I'll have to watch it very tentatively. However, though, my favorite day. Of the entire NC double A tournament. Is that first Thursday to me? There's nothing like that first Thursday. In the NC double A tournament. And I'm happy. I'm off means. I'll be sitting on my couch. Maybe I'll go out to a bar go down to Atlantic City. I don't know put a few shackles on the game. Has some good food has some good drinks. And then probably call Ben Horowitz to bitch about all the outcomes all the money that I lost a big gambler. I'll bet games here. And there. But for the NC double A tournament. Yeah. You bracket, which you're always following. And then you'll place a few side bets as well. Guess we thinking. What is the best sporting event? What's your favorite sporting event? And if I'll play offs NCAA tournament Stanley Cup college football playoff the masters MBA playoffs. Baseball playoffs. For me. I'm still an NFL playoffs guy. In terms of fun, though, one singular day efforts first Thursday, the NC double A tournament's tough to beat that. It really is tough to beat that. However as a whole though NFL playoffs. Just the way that I'm wired NFL's king. So that's why I love it the most. Yeah. Stanley Cup plows do. When that does occur. That's the toughest championship to win. And you see it when the. Cup is awarded how many guys right afterwards. You find out applying with some horrific injuries and. The things that they go through Ben Horowitz. What's your favorite? Sport play offs or favorite sporting event. Well, we kinda got a split them up into two different categories. Because you we're we're talking about playoff. I mean, some of these lasts for two and a half months compared to implies never end. Right. But you compare that to opening day of the baseball season or something like you can't. So what's your favorite day, and what's your favorite playoffs? My favorite playoff playoffs playoffs. I'm talking about ploughs. I'm my own soundboard, by the way. I'll go more on everybody. They don't need sound effects or anything. I do my own sound effects playoffs talk about play offs. You can't make. I think I'd do a better you do more better than more does more without a doubt fair. I would say singled the, right? Yeah. I would say those this hopefully what a single day. It's a toss up to me between Super Bowl Sunday and opening day the baseball season Super Bowl Sunday, just because you're getting up you've got all the food in the world. You gamble in your face off the last football that you know, you're gonna see for the next eight months actually, very depressing Super Bowl Sunday nine love the the Monday after SuperBowl is depressing. That's national holiday. But now, you're pats fans. I don't know how you could ever say Super Bowl Sunday is depressing. But what I mean by that? Let me clarify because it kind of caught myself when I said that because there's many happy days with that. Yeah. I I kinda wanted to run through the glass here. And. Yeah, hit you know, what I mean by that is it's depressing. When you wake up and get your teams in it. It's all fumble you wake up, and you go, man. This is the last football Sunday. I would I would peg that a super the Monday after SuperBowl. That's the depression that because if you're waking up Super Bowl. The best thing ever, right? Yeah. You're on cloud nine. Says if you won the lottery. Yeah. But even still I don't have football for eight months that stinks. Super Bowl Sunday gamble food drink in football. I got half time shows you name it. It's great opening day. Major league baseball. Awesome hope springs eternal, you know, the weather's turning warm. Everyone's hopeful it's like, I don't know how to describe it. It's like this emotional feeling that you can't describe that. That's what MLB opening day. So they're kind of a toss up for the day terms of eight playoff or a whole event playoffs. The NHL playoffs bar none. And it's not not even remotely close in my opinion. That's fair. Here's the make correct. That statement though in terms of the Super Bowl Sunday depression. When they used to do it the pro ball after the Super Bowl that first Sunday was the most depressing 'cause you don't watch the Pro Bowl, and you don't have actual football. Now. It's before no one watches the full you can still get that realization hits the Monday after the Super Bowl. You don't you're not. You're not sitting there on cloud nine that whole week. And then Sunday comes in. You're like, oh crap. It's the Pro Bowl. No. You realize on Monday. Oh my God. All that. I have left is the frigging Pro Bowl. Now, our friend hippie who calls the show he said that you and him are going to run for president together. And you'd be the president he'd be the vice president in twenty twenty. I think that there was some confusion. Referring to me or another war. Another guy. I'm going to say that it was you because you're our producer and pretty cool. If you ended up becoming president. No, no, no, I want to be vice president. It's the best job in the world. You have better than being a bracket, you have zero zero responsibility other than to stay alive and to break Italian Senate, and he basically all the perks of being president chauffeured, you get private jet being vice president of the United States is the place. Yeah. It is one of the greatest jobs in the world if not degrades job in the world. Okay. That's what you say. Yeah. I don't want the responsibility any of that. It'd be in president. I just have to stay alive and every now, and then I break a tie. It could flip a coin and break Tien the Senate signed me up for that. Yeah. I don't know seems like too much work. So what what kind of job do you want? You always in the public eye the job description when they post the job job responsibilities. Stay alive is one of the two and the other one is to just cast a yea or nay vote. Those are your only responsibilities, and you you think that there's easier jobs. Yeah. Here's the job that I want walk into gas station when the lottery. Get to live the rest of my life on a golf course. Trying to figure out how to play golf and play better and then got fancy meals every night in my face and just devoured. Listen to things I wouldn't recommend eating your own face. Yeah. That'd be a problem. Eat your face off your face off slain. It's three thirty five AM in the morning early. That's your class half full glass half empty, but also winning the lottery isn't a job. So we're talking about actual you've got to manage the money. That's no different than just living. Good point. That's what I'm here for. So what's a better job to EU? Vice president. Or? NFL today. One day a week in this in the sports world. There is no better job than being one of those guys in the day like Bouma like J B Nate Burleson right because they'll show up one day a week. You get to watch football. You do a pre game show. And then you're watching football afternoon, you're not Scott Hanson, red zone, and you know, where your you gotta began to write write these guys got it made. So in the sports world that is by far the best his face when he does that show. You have to be delirious at one point. Oh, absolutely. And you could tell sometimes he is so Sportsworld Guinea the NFL today in general though, I want to be the vice president. That's so hot vice president. But when you think about it, doesn't it make sense? Yeah. You get virtually all the perks, no responsibility. And then there's something really goes wrong president, then it's one of those moments. That's the thing if something goes wrong, you're next up in line. Impeach someone. Then you have to take all. You know, all the blame is something goes wrong the bad job. But then I can just quit and find another job. Now, if you were if you ended up becoming president, you're not quitting. It's a lot of responsibility lottery response want. Well, anyway, I want you and had to become president vice president I'll be the press secretary. I'll take the demotion and work underneath you guys and Masa, and if you guys do become president vice president the first thing you should have happened. Is that the Monday after the Super Bowl is a national holiday. Yeah. That's what I was going up by the less when we started this conversation. You beat me to the punch. I was going to say that's my first act. All right. We'll take a timeout. When we come back. We'll see if Ben Horowitz is still here. They have four picks in the first thirty five picks of the upcoming NFL draft right now, which is more important than the raiders the four and thirty five or getting Antonio Brown and Saturday night. I'd say combination not giving one of those four picks to this. Swear. A week. My first round pick. Terms, and they're pretty happy. That's your best case scenario to get a guy like that just give up. Vic where you take a look at what else is needed for this raiders team. I mean, obviously that's a big step in the right direction giving a difference maker and wide receiver. What else do you think is needed for this raiders team to start contending around the corner? The biggest thing is a pass rusher. Get once a day all those guys were too expensive the curves. Available got hit. Draft picks. Right now, all they have right now. Kind of a projects we need some help there. But. Last year sprint Baz, last by large margins circus, definitely the biggest feet wet. Now. How much do you think? Jon Gruden may have learned his lesson when he traded Khalil Mack. He trades Amari Cooper. And even he was complaining about week four. Where's the past recipe will say well you traded Chicago Bears? That's where it went. How much do you think he learned that? Okay. I can try to win this way. But I better have play makers and not just try to out Gruden people. Like he thought he was going to do when he got to the raiders the second time. John's gotta read I think I can't really figuring about I'm not sure if there was a master plan for cubs went day. I think I was thinking see today offered to the big guys. So he's willing to pay guys side of the ball. More defense. Defense of the boss is probably part of the reason why amac is not there anymore and trim Varna Antonio Brown. I think at some point in defense. But definitely I think he's often some guy may today. The do you think the fan perception is of Jon Gruden after day one day two now of those we look at free agency. Because when you do trae Khalil Mack is pretty mentioned. Now, people are wondering. Okay. Are you behind the times? I wonder what the people look at the organization now based on the steel screw question Glasser, they're pretty miserable. But I think Brown big step in the right direction is say playmaker. Very entertaining. Last year was whole Susan to watch the games were boring. Pretty uneventful. But Brown's your he's. Highlight reel big first step. Dirk card chance to kind of grow. And so he's the guy for Vegas and Ken Brown today to buy car more time talking. So it's all good as far as your office girls. But like we said at some point we got sixty five's victim for the athletic raiders reported joining Freddie, Kobina, John hood on Freddie and Fitz Simons on ESPN radio in your gut. How do you think Antonio Brown and Derek Carr will mesh on the field? Great. I I really have no doubts. I think Dirk arm talent in the world. I think she's a forest guys were week question marks about talking toughness and ability to make plays everything's breakdown. But I think it's Bellevue. Read most of the players juggle foreign before all. All the figures. Fires them personally get along together. Bromance, Gordon, Instagram? I think. Exactly was big Antonio. But obviously at some points. Boss, boss. Is always going to be a guy. It was my fault. No matter what happened to him. So to a fault, even so I think that won't be a promise FARs dealership going forward. I was talking about this earlier. Vic, I want to get your thoughts on it as well. So I know it's a big what if but what if this is what we do. So if Mike Mayock is not in place, and Jon Gruden is the person that's pulling the strings were full autonomy without having to talk to anyone does this deal take place or do we give me some credit for being able to get this deal done, especially what the raiders were able to return? Yeah. I I think draws husbands who he was involved in megotiating. You would think she may be able to comb John download more for a long time. Friends Ronald same page unleashes both guys who got five in the morning with the grinder. So I think John definitely listens to Mike me more than good Reggie last year as far as ability to slowing down and some of the deals made last year would never trades that resume. Share martinez. Bryant for third round pick reservoir. Yeah. The first few picks golden, we would never truly third round picks workout. So I think that's an example somebody John might want to take that one back if you could. So I think actually a good job if he doesn't come in on the right page with China. Definitely working more together victory for the raiders reported. Joining Freddie Cohen, also Jonathan hood on Freddie and Fitz, SPN radio and the ESPN app. This could be the beginning of something special once again for the raiders just getting Antonio Brown as we mentioned four picks of the I thirty five in the upcoming NFL draft. We know that Mike Mayock is going to do with Jon Gruden tells them to do it. But they're going to be more concept than the previous guide Reggie McKenzie. At the same time. How important is this draft for the raiders to really get this going in the second go round for Jon Gruden. Some they need some young stars make plays some guys we're playmakers. I think chance it's pretty good draft. What's the combine that looked guys wants to listen to speak deep, and it should be able to get three or four guys you looking right away. So whether it's you know or or land backer safety receiver, so good shape. I hope you don't blow it, but they should be. Like, you say hopefully, grew they worked together and pull us off. All right. Let's take a look at the west if Kansas City is the class of the AFC west where whereas Oakland and Denver amongst those two teams in the west is Oakland still trying to get to six seven wins. How do you look at it? Yeah. All the pencils draft picks. Another roster is never a good. I really I got Trump and Lorca corner. But they're still good ways off a lot of hosmer. The defense was was terrible last year. So you need more than a five hundred safety to make it better. So. But I think you the hope is that they'll get some guys will start three starters on defense. Some guys last year maker steps like MAURICE Hurst is a guy who hasn't could be a big time player if he gets better. So we can make jump next year. And he got something other markets on safeties five ten below Vic. I don't know. Corner alive. Playing last lot corner as well safety. But otherwise, you'll make him Carl Carl's Russell five. Macron look a little bigger, but. I can't see those guys back there all the time to go a little much ethics. So. Lamarcus quarter West Nile, maybe have understand each other soldiers have a bigger say Oakland, Raiders, that's actually going to work a bit gray stab, my friend. Also pledged that you take care of my man. Victor for the athletic raiders report. If you missed that he had to say about Antonio Brown. And maybe he is important but not as much as four picks in the first thirty five of the raiders have the upcoming NFL draft. Subscribe to the Freddie Fitzsimmons podcast in the more tab the ESPN app, and wherever you get your podcast. He brought out something really really on point. When it comes to victory for the raiders reported Java from the athletic. He said, hey, Mike may had the rain Jon Gruden then I wonder how much of that was the fact that Jon Gruden even though he knew about Reggie McKenzie. Did not trust them and wanted to have somebody that would do his beckon call knowing that was not going to be the case where the guy that was already there before he got there Raynham in. I thought I think that's that's really stands out in the interview Raines because again when John gray was here. Everybody is great. So I mean in for clue Madame parallel. So Mark Cooper. So I just think that I think since Mayock was GM for all the teams in the NFL network. Now, he's. Narrow down on one team. I think that the thing that blows my hair back is the whole thing man of what they got what they what they sent out their third and fifth round pick for Antonio Brown. That's the thing. That's surprises me. Sure. They got the asset. But boy what they gave back and return to the Steelers Steelers. Look like he's mentioned earlier panic mode to saying, okay, whatever you got third and fifth. Okay. We'll take them just to give Brown offer hands. But that's not smart because you know, Antonio Brown's better than that by Adam Schefter joins in with you on that one because the ESPN NFL inside and Golic and wingo said it was amazing that the Steelers gave up Antonio Brown for the price and the Oakland Raiders Tonio Brown was to pull out this landing spot with a reworked contract. I can tell you yesterday the league we buzzing blown away that Antonio Brown. Got this new deal with new guarantees with added money with a big race at a time when other wide receivers. Like Julio Jones and AJ green. And Michael Thomas tyreek hill and on and on all are going to be in the market to new deals, and he hoped reset the market when he had three years left. The fact that the Pittsburgh Steelers allowed him to get what he wanted getting new money and they get a third and fifth round. In return. Eighteen had three first round has made the hell down wait a day or two to me. That's the win. Not just went Antonio Brown Jonathan but for the Oakland Raiders making wait a minute. So we're getting that guy still in his prime, and we don't have to give a first rounder for that guy year where we sign off on that deal. They probably torn rotator cuff signing that deal to get Tony about from the Steelers now, you're so right. Wait, which franchise are we talking about that is revered and usually do does a smart thing in an organization that we've seen for years more to like, you know, out of the drama situation is the Steelers isn't that the team that you did does the right thing, Omar Epps says the as the head coach doing the right thing. I mean, that's that's this is why during this era here during this time of the common era, very, very sketchy. And I'm putting a lot of arrows at Kevin Colbert, the GM for it. Now, the question is this time next year will the Steelers be able to get away from this cloud, Freddie, a away from bell away from Brown. How can they survive this? If we know the Steelers, they'll find a way, it'll be fine. But I don't know especially with Cobra making this move. They'll get a stay of execution because they'll say, well, he didn't have Brown. He didn't have bell. We had to adjust to that. I could see that being a stay of execution for both the general manager and the head coach when it comes to the Pittsburgh Steelers, unless they go four and twelve and then all bets are off from that standpoint lessons learned. Not just by Jon Gruden from his first year in Oakland. But by Charley, Casserly, and Kyrie Irving. Keep it here on ESPN radio ESPN.

"Ing here is the Oakland Raiders head coach. I used to think that a lot until I saw drew Brees twice a year in Tampa. Then I met Russell Wilson coming out of NC state. And I'm watching this kid Murray at Oklahoma. And I am putting away. All the prototypes. That I once had you know, I used to have a prototype for hand size height. Arm lengths all that stuff. We're looking for guys that can play and do a lot of different things, and they come in all shapes and sizes nowadays. I don't know sounded like he's infatuated there. Maybe he's trying to beat somebody to trade for collar Murray. But I think Jon Gruden this Murray Kidd, apple what does Jon Gruden is not baiting someone and just actually telling us, what's on his mind and not hiding their plans whatsoever. We might be over thinking this. I'll tell you if he's available Yami taking him. He's a raider. Yeah. Derek Carr who I'm taking this Murray Kidd out of Oklahoma hand size sizes shapes. I thought Oakland when. And I it was announced that he was thrown his his name into the hopper for the draft. I went I could see Oakland Raiders here by the time. You get to Vegas. You got a new quarterback air put him on the turf, let him go. We're going to hire a bunch of short lineman at the pan. Get a Senator eleven like that kid movie varsity blues. The raiders they bring it only short lion. Geyser, bud. Five nine you. Gotta get low fi. We're hiring short five nine three hundred pound lineman. That'll solve the problem. Collared can see over them like a bunch of bowling ball's lined up. Yes. Mclovin way. I thought Gruden was from like, Ohio or something. I don't know where he got his accent. But I think he grew up in south bend bend south sow Ben got a southern accent from south bend not banning a lot until I saw drew Brees twice a year in Tampa. Then I met Russell Wilson coming out of the NC state. And I'm watching this kid Murray at Oklahoma. And I am putting away. All the prototypes. That I once had he's the kind of guy that if he spent like a month and Texas did he mean stereotypes prototypes nine it was on a roll. I wouldn't get interrupted Germans if you put him in Texas or Georgia, Alabama. He's he's gonna have a heavy accent there. But I know he went to Dayton. I don't know if he might be from Ohio, but it's southern the southern part of Ohio. I believe Dayton is officially in that southern part. So maybe that's where he got a southern accent post in Tampa. I mean, exactly I don't I'm from Mason, Ohio. In southern Ohio. I don't have an accent like that. Chris Carter grew up in Middletown, Ohio, which was about twenty minutes from where I grew up and he's got a southern accent. I don't know where that happened. I got our poll question is that we're going to still go without mclovin. We put up which NFL player to start with you one hundred percent vote for the hall of fame. If you could only do one Jerry Rice the early leader Tom Brady second. Also, can we stop with this Tony Romo? He would be a great head coach just because you know, what plays coming as broadcaster that doesn't mean you can coach or you would want to coach Tony Romo would be crazy to trade in what he has to be a head coach and for all of this. Hey, I know what's going to happen. All right. Then why wouldn't you tell your defensive coordinator in Dallas when you were there? Hey, by the way, when they do this. They're doing, hey, they're killing the play. It's going to be a run. He's doing it. He's doing his homework, and he should be applauded for doing that. But all of a sudden say he could be a coach. No. That doesn't mean he can be a head coach he could be maybe a defensive coordinator if you know what's coming. You know this. Get offers. Here's another thing. There was a report that at least one team reached out to him to come back and play. He he's not healthy enough to play. He just trying to be healthy enough to play golf. And the other thing is Hasselbeck said that he was contacted by a couple of quarterbacks man, if you wonder about the quarterbacking position, doesn't that tell you a lot that you got a couple of forty year olds in teams are trying to bring them back. Matt Hasselbeck, what's he forty-three like, really? Romo coming off back. Certain. No, no, no, no. And why would Romo one fat? And not a head coach. Okay. He'd be crazy. Crazy. And gruden's a little crazy to give up what he had to go back. But you know, he was being paid one hundred million dollars by the raiders who don't know better. Yes. It didn't Gruden if Gruden do the media like seven or eight years if you give Romo a decade of doing CBS, or whatever he may say, okay, now, I'm bored. If he's staying with Jim Nance, then I would as long as Nance is doing it. Then you stay there doing that. That would be my advice to him. He doesn't need my advice. That would be my by the ask for it. Do not be tempted. You got a great job. They take care of you. You got a great life. You get to see your kids. Nobody's judging you with wins and losses. You can wake up on Monday and feel pretty good unless the private jet, you're in, you know, had some turbulence you're doing well, and you can play golf. That that stay with that do not trade at that job. You there's only a few of those coming up next. Our Drew Bledsoe will join us. And I wonder last time somebody reached out to drew. How old is drew? I wonder if somebody reached out to drew to see if he wanted to play again, but he'll join us. And there was an article written on. Dealed with drew Brees quoted on what motivates Tom Brady what continues to motivate Tom Brady. And also they're still and there's going to be a lot more speculation on if Brady and the patriots win will Brady retire. I hope he doesn't. I think we wanna push legends out sooner than they should go out need to go out would wanna go out. I hope Brady continues to play is long as he feels like he can play at a high level and along as he enjoys it. But you're going to get that that's going to be a a topic at the Super Bowl. Could you see Brady retiring he'll be asked that on media night to if you win? Would you Tom Tom Tom, would you if you would Bob Costas will join us coming up as well? In the final hour, two more hours.
