"At bifurcating, if you will, that which is going on within an organization and it's impact if any on the field. And other organizations which are not as good as that. You have to be able to address both. You have to be able to turn to your head coach and your general manager and say, you know, keep the focus on the field when it comes to the players and the coaches. And you've got to be able to turn to others in your organization and empower them to do their job in the manner that's least likely to impact on children. And I think they'll be able to accomplish that. Talking about the latest with the Raiders, Sandra Douglas Morgan, and I'm going to brag. When I was raised, now you got a dad that was in World War II. You got a mom that was in World War II. You got two aunts that were in that same Army Corps. There was no way I was going to step out of line and think, well, a woman missed and women, I think it comes down to how you were raised, sorry. You should Brad. That's tremendous. And please thank them if they are still with you, please thank them for me. And if they are no longer still with you, no longer still with us, I thank them in essential. Look, the example I always use is Apollo 13. There's a scene where the Ed Harris character gets everyone at NASA. Who worked on Apollo 13 or is capable of working on Apollo 13 around a table. And this is when the call came in that it was a problem with Apollo 13. And he gets everyone around a table and he dumps on the table, a bucket of bolts and nuts and he says to them, these are the only pieces and parts they have with them on Apollo 13. Using only these pieces and parts. And of course, I'm paraphrasing. He said it more eloquently. But using only these pieces and parts find a way to get those men home alive. Do you think anyone on Apollo 13 cared one bit? Who was seated around that table, whether they were men or women? Do you think they cared about their race their ethnicity, their religion, their gender, all they cared about was that they got home alive. "And I'm scarlet fu. Let's continue our conversation with Amy Trask former CEO of the men Oakland Raiders and the first female to ever hold that position in the NFL. She's also chairman of the board at big three ice cubes, three on three basketball league, which right now coexists with the NBA. The thing is big three is not necessarily seen as a direct threat to the NBA, but it's out there and it's got a quality product and people talk about it as something contrary to the NBA. And you look at what's happening in golf. You've got live, which is clearly seen as a direct threat to the PGA Tour. Is there something within the sport of football that could become a threat to the NFL? Well, I will note as to your very observation as to the big three. The NBA sees it as a threat. They've made that very clear to us in a number of ways. I won't delve into that now. I'll turn to your question. That's a fascinating topic, because the NFL has a very, very strong Effective. manner of converting that which could be a threat into something which can be a resource. So could there potentially be a threat? Hard for me to imagine, could there be something that can coexist with it? Absolutely. Look, we've seen the USFL. We've seen the XFL. We're seeing that leagues come back again for the second time, the third time. The league and now when I say league, I mean National Football League is very, very adept at finding ways to synergize with those leagues. And to sort of push to the side those it does not want to share a spotlight. Do I think there can be any sort of existential threat, no I don't. Do I think there's room for growth, whether with the National Football League or otherwise? Absolutely. We know that sports live sports. And the NFL in particular are the one thing networks can count on to draw eyeballs in real time. We know there's a platform for sports in any number of areas. So I do think there's room for more. I don't know that I would ever characterize it as a threat. Let me state that more definitively. I don't believe there's a threat. Do I believe there's additive value? Yes, I do. This is where you need people like me who are auto racing fans. And I bring it up for this read. See, all the racing fans, we know there's NASCAR. And we love NASCAR. And there's something else with four wheels, IndyCar racing. And we love IndyCar racing. And we also know that there's F one out there. And we love F one. You're okay with all that. And we love drag racing. We all know it's out there. So I'm just wondering why we can't get that karma when it comes to big three or the NFL. Your question is a very, very good question, obviously. There can be room for more. The question becomes and I don't know the answer. If there is a saturation point in any sport, hard to imagine that there is given what we're seeing now. And if there is a saturation point, what is that saturation point? I don't know the answer to that. As I said, it's hard right now to perceive that there's a saturation point, but there may be. Do you think there's a point at which fans would stop paying for NFL and watching NFL games on TV because the rights, the live sports rights, have just gone up in price and we now hear the NFL is launching NFL plus, which is going to be made available or would be appealing to people who have cut the cord and want to be able to see their local football games. And the price of these sports rights just continues to go up, especially of Amazon or apples, start entering the bidding for Sunday ticket. At what point do people say, you know what? I can't pay for this or would it not get to that point because the league and the executives know that they can push it to a limit before they have to back off a bit. Look, the world can always change. We saw with the pandemic that the world can change on a dime. So I'm not going to suggest there aren't other ways in which the world can change and may change and in this moment I'm using the word world to refer to consumers and to sports. Can things ultimately change? Sure. Life can change. We've seen that. I just don't see that happening for the foreseeable future. Yeah, but I think about how boxing boxing used to be one of the most popular sports. And now it's kind of a nichey sport bar. It's not, I remember reading how a boxing was like the NFL in its heyday. And now it's something that people watch on pay per view. And a select group of people watch and they'll pay for it, but it doesn't capture the public imagination the way it once did. It's not like it was on TV when you had Gillette and you're watching the boxing match. Let's see, boxing is an easy sport to televise because you just have the ring and the camera's right there. So that's why especially early in the 50s, it was an easy sport to televise unlike when you do a football game in the 50s or even a baseball game. You got to cover the field. But your point is well taken. Yeah, I mean, I don't know. I guess the question for the NFL is at what point would it reach saturation in the U.S. and really struggle to make headway overseas? Or is that not a concern given that the NFL has been treading carefully in overseas markets and is taking it slow. Well, we just saw that the game that is scheduled for this coming season in Germany sold out in the blink of an eye. So there certainly is fan interest in Germany for the National Football League. Are there some countries where it might not take on as quickly or as strongly? Sure, but are there countries where there's tremendous tremendous avidity for it? Absolutely while I was in the league, we played games. Albeit preseason ones in London in Tokyo in Mexico City. I attended other games. Other national football games and other locations throughout the world. And those were pre season games, and yet there was tremendous fan response. For those games. So it's a big world, might it take on everywhere? No. There will be some areas it won't be of interest. Are there plenty of places where there is interest? Yes. And I will tell you, as it relates to the big three going into the pandemic, we were putting plans in place to play big three games. On several other continents, we are now resuming those conversations. And there is interest. And I have an ongoing hope that sports is something that can unite people around the world. Up next, we have more with Amy Trask. She was the first female to hold the title of CEO in the NFL and she did it for the van Oakland Raiders. That franchise has made yet another historic hire and we'll dive into that next on the Bloomberg business of sports show. I'm Michael Barr, you can follow me on Twitter at big bar sports. "Had to name just one person who was the face of football over the past 50 years that person might be John Madden He won super bowls as coach of the Oakland Raiders He covered super bowls as a TV analyst for every network He was a familiar voice on many Sunday afternoons and he was the face of a worldwide sports video game franchise The NFL says Madden died unexpectedly at the age of 85 NPR's Tom Goldman covers sports Tom good morning Hi We just said unexpectedly where people surprised I think people were Steve Even though John Madden was 85 he was in the forefront of people's minds after a TV documentary on his life error just this past weekend on Christmas Day So yesterday was a bit of a shock We still haven't heard a cause of death in the NFL statement lead commissioner Roger Goodell said about Madden We will forever be indebted to him for only did to make football in the NFL what it is today What was his career as a coach like When he took over as head coach of the Oakland Raiders in 1969 he was 32 the youngest head coach in the then American football league And between 69 and when he retired after the 1978 season his team never had a losing season He won 70 76% of his games according to pro football Hall of Fame as the highest ever among coaches with a hundred or more victories He presided over a rough and tumble team that was often called dirty He bristled at that not surprisingly sometimes talk tough to his detractors but he was a very smart coach who according to those who worked with him was thoughtful collaborative in his approach And yes we should stress again In 1977 the Pinnacle of his career he won the Super Bowl with his Oakland Raiders What made him so much more famous and more influential though than other coaches Well he started doing TV broadcasts on NFL games after his retirement as a coach And he was a hit for more than 30 years with his knowledge about the game but mostly his approach like he was talking to you about football sitting in a bar It demystified a complicated and violent game and he was really funny He'd go on non football tangents like this one with fellow broadcaster Pat Summerall talking about then Dallas Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman You noticed pat Troy Aikman's trying to grow a beard And he just can't do it I mean you know blond.

Jon Gruden Resigns as Raiders Coach Over Decade-Old Offensive Emails
"John Gruden has always been kind of a wild child in the NFL always been a little bit of a loose cannon, if you will. And I believe he was also he was also the coach of the Oakland Raiders in like the 90s. And then he went to the Buccaneers and led them to the Super Bowl very complicated. But then he rejoined the Raiders in 2018 after he was an analyst on Monday Night Football. Do you remember those things he used to sit down with the quarterbacks? And it was like Gruden's corner. I've never been a big fan of Jon Gruden. I'll be very honest. One in 2002, that's right, my memory's not too bad. I'm not going to be an apologist for Jon Gruden. Okay? I'm sure he lives a complicated life like most people in the NFL. But this recent saga involving in his resignation slash termination is disgusting. And the national Football Association is in many different ways. In enterprise that is built on a House of Cards. The entire structure of how many of the teams are filed as nonprofits on how almost every stadium is built thanks to taxpayer dollars. There's a lot of corruption that exists in the national football, the National Football League. And so it came out a couple days ago that John Gruden is going to be fired, or it has to speak out for his racist and homophobic emails over ten years ago. And I shrugged my shoulders and I actually didn't know where this one was going to go. Because John Gruden signed a ten year 100 million dollar deal with the Oakland Raiders. And now so he technically resigned whatever he says, I have resigned as the head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders. I love the Raiders and do not want to be distraction. Thank you to all the players coaches and staff and fan fans of raider nation. I'm sorry I never meant to hurt anyone, John Gruden. And so it was revealed in some of these emails. And based from what I've said, seen should have said something's probably not no, was he joking around in private in a context that none of us can understand? Yes. He incited Joe Biden, insulted Joe Biden I can't even say what he called Joe Biden on air. It's kind of hilarious. Called Roger Goodell, a certain name. I'm no fan of Roger Goodell. So if this whole thing is like a Roger Goodell, apology tour, but here's what really matters. Here's the question. In the National Football League, do they ever allow people to do bad things and continue to participate? Like murder. How about rate Ray Lewis and his legacy of the unsolved double murder? Or how about you remember this one? You remember ray rice, who literally punched his fiance in an elevator? It was an elevator, right? Which gained total notoriety following the indictment he was released by the ravens and suspended, and now rice would be reinstated after he successfully appealed the league's decision. And this whole thing with John Gruden is this question of should you be judged by things you have said in private ten years ago to destroy your current

"We've been rothlisburger after last season. I mean i don't. I don't know how arm was going to get that much stronger. I don't know how much he was going to gain. As far as mobility concern. I have no idea what the plan was and pittsburgh this year. Didn't draft a quarterback for the future. So are we looking at base and rudolf ethic guy. Are we going to beg in plead in hope that ben rothlisberger the way that he's looking now if he continues to look this way that hopefully that he's gonna come back for another season. You're the pittsburgh steelers fans. Do you wanna see ben rothlisberger. In the way he's playing right now come back a year older like somehow someway. That's going to improve. I don't give a damn. I don't care if you had to nineteen seventy six. Oakland raiders offensive. Line ben. rothlisberger is a sitting target back there in today's game. When you have to move to quarterback you have to be mobile unless you have the brain of a. Tom brady and genetics about tom brady. And the tb twelve of. Tom brady and offensive line like The buccaneers half to keep him upright ben rothlisberger and the way he is right now. What his arm is right now i. I don't know exactly how was arm. Strength is going to get better. I mean isn't it the farther you get in the season you know. You start accumulating injuries and some itchy always and some annoying type of injuries. That will stunt any type of progress of your body. feeling better. will ben rothlisberger arm is this. Strength is at this level right now and we're only week three into the nfl season. What the hell is it gonna look like in four months but they held it will look like in a week. Fourteen fifteen sixteen. All of a sudden he's gonna turn back to the big ben of. I dunno eight ten years ago after the pittsburgh steelers. What are we doing here. Where are we going here. And if you're the pittsburgh steelers pittsburgh steelers fans think about the steelers organization and think about that coach and then thing about the culture and what that could do for the shawn watson bringing him in. Think about what that can do now. When do we make this move. Who knows but again rothlisberger continues to play like this again. The steelers defense is great but they can't overcome that offense that played against cincinnati. Are you assuming that it's going to get better with time. Barring injury the offensive line she get better. Harris should adapt more Once he plays more getting used to the speed and everything of the nfl but yet still. There's no break last in case of emergency as far as the quarterback concerned it's going to be able to turn around the fortunes of the pittsburgh steelers on offense. You'll be counting on rothlisburger to do that. All right if you steal. I'm just saying. I don't know why they don't inquire i don't know why that hasn't become more of a talking. Point is because of the sacredness of ben rothlisberger. What he's meant for the organization that if it'd be blasted mr talk about benching ben rothlisberger especially for someone with the legal situation and problems with the shawn watson..

She won't always says whatever you coming home last ones at seven so i won't be home until like seven thirty seven forty five a half hour forty five minutes to clean up the rest of the shop. You know so rather take time at the end of the day to set myself up for the morning. I'm not a huge morning person. So if i if. I can just walk in just get right to work. That's the key that works for me. I love what about you. Do you have anything that you kind of. Prep yourself or set yourself up for the following day or maybe the morning of so i generally. I know a couple tasks had to do those things. I always like for like being reassigned whatever. It was the night before like offset that out. Whatever like before head for the night like set up the needs to you know go through like an i know have some reports i have to go through it. And make sure you know certain. Openings are are close bilateral in period of time. I'll get i'll print out those reports the night before. Make sure have it. Go 'cause like i dose of things to do in the morning so it was like i make sure that's printed out go so when i come in the morning i just started going through all the different files. Whatever and make sure it's l. e. Sent out properly so i if anything else news. Be like regard to again. It's i have done by the morning. And then i usually do by the afternoon winding down by twelve that i'm already started figuring out like had to deal with them and make some phone calls for the afternoon leave that to their. At least i know. Have a certain schedule and i kinda try to buy know. There's always extra duties as assigned whatever you know. Random stuff comes out. But at least i have an idea of at least daily idea of what what i need to do for deputy. Today i mean putting a routine for the most part. But i mean there's always extra stuff that comes in there but i try to stick to lease the two main things of like first thing in the morning and like the extra phone calls and stuff i had to do in the afternoon. Yeah no it's huge. I think one one additional thing or tip. I'll leave is when for my to-do list or things that i may think of while commuting back home i myself down so funny but i email my so. It's almost like a reminder. When i go in the next day and looking at my emails it's like oh yeah i gotta remember reach out that is person regarding xyz issue. I think you mentioned the long too. I if i thought it was it was something i had to care of saddam. Fifteen twenty minutes early. So long i'll mischer crank kc same thing with with Follow up when the file somebody. A lot of times Maybe a contract. Maybe something you do on regular basis. Maybe a monthly basis reports. That i have to submit in and actually process on a monthly basis. So it's not something. I'm doing every single day. It's easy to forget if you're only doing it once a month. So i have reminders on my calendar of run this report you enter this day alert you whatever platform. Yes and so those are the things that keep you on. It's funny that something. So little that takes under thirty seconds to set up under thirty secons. And when i tell you that has saved me I couldn't even tell. I mean it's it's exponential for the level organization that helps and provides and lack of fear and worry because i know i put it in there somewhere. There's even ones i have backup reminders. For if it's that important and you know we have vendors and things like that that have to stay on top of for a specific things and make sure you follow up with them on that You know to provide coverage or whatever they had promised us home and so those are little things again nothing extravagant but when you add an organized desk a to do list from the night before additional emails on your way home or or reminders. Fiance all that little stuff adds up for successful day. The following one thing like oh three hours later then you scream and derails what you're currently or you can be in the middle of a meeting Now you're not paying attention during meeting. You know you're worried about the other thing. I wasn't them absolutely all right. So to transition to another topic that i enjoyed was power versus authority. The author to find the important difference between power authority authority is always built on serving and sacrificing for those you lead which comes from identifying and meeting legitimate needs the role of the leaders to serve to meet the needs of their people so to go back on power and authority. So authority is people. It's almost like people responding to you. based off of their actual experience with you all the way you've kind of interacted with them in the past And so they had that level of you have authority when you walk into the room. Because of xyz which is way different than power power is almost like just position. Like you have power because of your position. Wait you understand. The difference is way different authority authority review. Was they respect you. And they're like. Oh wow kind of like a presence and it has nothing to do with position You could be the lowest on the whatever and you can have authority in the way you talk right Or in the way you address things. That's how people come up in the rankings. Almost because they they act and speak from level of authority respect or sort of But it's also backed by knowledge and experience that i can respect somebody. That doesn't mean they haven't authority in some right but if someone is it's almost like they're bringing the experience they're bringing the confidence to and then there's an i respect that part so i'm listening because there. They had the authoritative authoritative approach. Almost to where someone's power. I'm only literally solely listening to them because of their position. Sure only listening to this guy. Because he's my boss right. Where someone with authority he could be like my counterpart and i'm listening to him because he knows what he's talking about and i respect you know where he's coming from because i seen him do the work because he's helped me and i've helped him Where someone could you know you see it all the time with maybe companies that iran overseas and owners actually on another country. Y- then they fly over and everyone's stops freezes that's power you know. Stop and freeze. Just because they know where you are on the totem pole so to speak where you are in rankings so you want to have the authoritative voice. Any dealing whether it's at home or at work important thing was authority and leadership And this is coming from chapter four if you're trying to hone in on the servant a simple story about the.

Washington giant's game those great off the chart to in a you include our game. That's three awesome. Primetime games that they've had so You know nfl's knocking it out of the park right now. I know how weird is that. We get good. Primetime games like right off the bat. That does not happen often. No so anyhow gay stats carl. Nasa wins the day with a strip sack fumble. He hit lamar jackson. is lamar. Jackson was carrying the ball with fellow for bread knocked. Ran out of his hands running quarterbacks. Like if you're going to have a running quarterback please coach them all security yes in slide. They're not sliding anymore. I did see daniel jones last night. I was like dude. "He is a absolute nightmare for defensive backs to catch and bring down and he gains big gains off those. We didn't see that this game because the passes were off target now. Don't get me wrong ben. Rothlisberger has carried the steelers to plenty of wins. He did carry this team to a number of wins and twenty twenty. And he's going to do it again. This season this game. He didn't have it and the team carried. Bend to a win. Now i say that by the end of the game he started getting going and he made a few passes. It just took him a little longer. So we're going to see week two. How ben rothlisberger comes out and plays against the oakland raiders to watch and see. How long does it take to really get into forming. get going. because that's when this offense is gonna shine looking overall at the offense looking at the scheme looking at the offensive balance. We saw them not give up on the run play. We saw a lot of tannin. Motion people are going to get frustrated with motion when it is a whole bunch of moving around and then they run the ball for two yards. People are going get frustrated with. That'd be like what's the point of doing all this stuff. If all you do is gain two yards will. The point isn't just that play those motions. Those actions suggest weeps everything they set up for later. Plays oftentimes they allow us to see. Okay if you're not gonna respect and unbalanced formation we're gonna attack when you adjust to an unfenced formation. We're going to how you adjust. We're going to look at your body language. Not just where you move but your body language you know we're going to see. Are you starting to predict okay. They moved over here. They motion over there. Okay they're gonna run up the middle. It's just going to happen and you get a lazy cover on the outside. You know this is. This is what canada's looking for all that all that action just gives more information not just about what. What the defensive play is. that what they're coverages. What their with their idea that play but their strategy for countering certain principles of the game certain ways you plan to attack them and you've put on film and you start to see better how they plan to defend that from the very start of the game so you'll see more of that big motion early in the game especially the first drive just because you have an offensive coordinator feeling out with the defense. Wants to do what they are planning to do to defense we saw beyond that. Don't worry about the message. There is don't worry if the motion doesn't lead to a big play you know. This is not a trick play. This is fleshing out what the defense is doing giving matt canada. You know information to drop what plays to to play later. Giving even ben. Ben is going to be able to see that during a break. He's gonna talk to canada. Can't it's gonna be able to say. Hey ben when they're doing this this is what they're doing. We know this because of how we saw them adjust to this motion. All these exaggerated things. Just give us more chance to see what they're doing other interesting things we saw. We saw when i call candidate magic even against those ten man fronts where they're taking away everything short. We saw the steelers orchestrate a screen pass for fourteen yards in. Which we we do a. We did a double screen. Where wonder too offensive lineman state into block and the rest looked out for strains we gained fourteen yards on. That did ten guys tight to the line and we have fourteen yards. We saw motion that created space of motion that led the play action that created space for a wide receiver where the ball and the receiver. Just you know. The quarterback wide receiver connection. Wasn't there but ben was bad throw or the receiver ran the route. A little wrong or they just didn't have the same idea of what was supposed to be going on that play. I don't know a lot of that. You can't tell but it just didn't work some other interesting things we saw. We saw zach gentry play more snaps than james washington.

Today's podcast will feature exactly why the pittsburgh steelers will be victorious on sunday getting the job done and moving onto to in. Oh in this early early. Nfl season first and foremost the raiders are nowhere near the challenge That the buffalo bills presented them. And yes. I know everything that has to be said about trop games and how often steelers play down to their opponents but typically those home opening games the steelers will take care of business especially against teams that are inferior to them. They they end up more often than not winning. Those games Just based off the pure adrenaline that the crowd at heinz field. The gives to the squad and really this will be the first sold out game. That's the steelers have played in heinz field since the twenty nine thousand nine season. It's hard to believe it's been that long. Since the stadiums been rocking at heinz field and a number of pittsburgh steelers will be playing their very first game in front of a crowd at heinz field. Not just the the twenty twenty. They have a nice contingency and they win these games. They've won. They've lost all these close games five and to start gruden's gotta step it up. The offense is there. Waller is an elite player. I didn't understand it at all. i still don't understand it. Twenty four hours later but anyways beyond that. There's still a month to go before the regular season. And i think for several weeks now when we've talked about jesse his contract i've compared it to the agent green situation back in twenty fifteen age agreeing waited until dez bryant engineers tomlin's both sides. They're extensions over the summer. It took until the very last weekend of the off season for the bengals to ink age agreed to a four year. Sixty million dollar deal. I think jeff hopsitals right before green went onto the plane for them to play. The oakland raiders. I think even happens in this off season. It's going to happen right around then. It's typically went. A lot of the bengals exceptions happen and honestly. There's no reason yet to expect that this deal will not get done sometime before based has to basically test the free agent. Market very rarely. Do they let these guys kind. Walk out. I think jonathan joseph carlson. The only two that i can think of in the last ten years. Will they've let a guy who supremely-talented very young coming off his rookie contract. And they don't extend him so until we get to september in these reports are still here. I think we should all come down. The ballot. shameless self mayan here. But i think it is kind of some some interesting information. There is a contract offer out to jamal adams which is a four year. Seventy million dollar contract about seventeen and a half million per year annual average And it's thirty. Eight million guaranteed on that contract. That's the offer. The seahawks have out to jamal. Adams.

Well that's not something that people can do so automatically yourself. You're telling yourself you can't do it. You set your. You've blocked yourself and be able to even achieve set thing ops. Oh many things you can change. it's It's unbelievable and things can change really quickly I was thinking about this the other day like when a when a certain team leaves an area they go to another area. So like the raiders. The raiders were the oakland raiders for a long time. I know they're in la and now. They're las vegas People can attach themselves with that team. That can be so excited about that team and that team leaves. And they're they just boom. They change their beliefs. Like i'm not a raiders fan anymore. It's like well what how how how come some people stay loyal to it or whatever but and some people in vegas will grab hold of those peop- grab hold of that team and now the love that team when maybe before they love the forty niners or whatever other teams. So it's interesting i there. There's like things that can change Really really quickly. Wow, that's something I learned about you actually. Good I'll. Sure to keep that. It's something we all have in common common thread. ETC, so the thing is when you talk about. They come up a trivia. They are commonly referenced There are some of these things have had like big impacts on the sports, world and broadcasting, and that kind of thing, so oh, yeah. We're GONNA stay with the NFL. NFL Week 8 Monday Night Football Betting Picks: Miami Dolphins at Pittsburgh Steelers
"Welcome in to the the board podcast powered by Fox bet week eight Monday night football edition dolphins steelers y'all are pretty excited for which would be a barn burner of a football game I'm your host firm joined by my colleague coast the one the only pain insider lots of enthusiasm I'm trying pain I'm not a premature whistle blower like we saw in Nashville but I still haven't positive mindsets get this thing going believe it you can achieve it and it wasn't the results were looking for either the college or professional football rain six but we persevere we continue to plow ahead and no we have a long season left in front of us so as we do every Monday we'll start the good the bad and the ugly we of course Dr Chow waiting in the wings to break down what the JJ watt injury means for the Houston Texans and he'll update us and some of our favorite quarterbacks the pain. Let's go glass half full what did you see this weekend that had you excited and brimming with optimism where do we start so much Scott the forty niners because I always leave things are more impressive when prior to the game it's not supposed to look that way so we a significant professional money come in on Carolina so it makes the win even more impressive to me personally because I just feel like they exceeded expectation and I managed and I think we both did here right to avoid this game now we dead value is certainly on Carolina like numbers wise right when you look at the number got six six and a half earlier in the week like Mason Rudolph was catching that same number in his first start ever on the road so value is I get it but I think we talked Thursday which is like a horrific matchup right Carolina doesn't have left tackle Bosa continues to like full-blown just eat out there I think he's got the highest pressure rate he's on pace to set the highest pressure rate for any rookie in NFL history right now kyle kind of talked about this the one above it average pass defense he played he struggled against earlier in the season which was Jacksonville the forty niners would obviously be even tougher than that he was the most inaccurate quarterback in terms of completion percentage expectation of sixteen percent below expectations the worst so far this week and we saw that at there wasn't very good can't stop the run we talked about that Cohen Short once he went out for the season and there was a big check mark there offensively from what I'm what I'm seeing from the forty niners is is Kyle Shanahan is just ahead of his time with what he's doing even though it's very basic right it's I think he's in this concerts jokingly kind of the real inventor of the exotic smashmouth right the ball is just like spread around there's all these interchangeable parts wide receivers are getting handoffs but like at its core it's very simple offense and I think the scary part here todd is like you look or seven and no right now in the NFC but they're without their left tackle there without the right tackle there without their versatile full-back call us check and I think I could wrong about this and it's probably not worth the money was paid but I feel like Jimmy G. has another gear that we haven't seen yet either which makes this forty-nine seem really scary well and I think some of that's got to be by design if you're Kyle Shanahan why reveal all your cards when you don't have to right now and then there's no doubt that Jimmy G. High profile passing attack is somewhere there I imagine as they can can you to build chemistry with Emmanuel Sanders able to get into the end zone and his forty niners debut it makes his team even scarier and I know pain we don't talk a lot about futures here because guys don't have access turn prices and you Never WanNa do hyperbole but right now when you look at the NFC or the forty niners the team to beat the more complete package outside of experience levels than the New Orleans saints tough to you obviously love with the saints are doing especially defensively that front seven has really taken another step I do feel like whoever gets home field advantage because the saints home field advantage so massive you'd give the you'd leaned that way with ever team had home field advantage certainly the games get a little bit tougher here in the next few weeks off for the forty niners so we'll see what they're made of but man ah X. still kind of leaned saints especially if they were the team that got home field advantage going to be interesting NFC playoff picture definitely a number of teams on their best day more than capable of putting up crooked numbers and more importantly getting stops on the defensive side but aside from the forty niners pain or are there any other teams and our individual performances that really stood out to you Daniel Jones right if you're a giants fan you have to pretty encouraged in whether you could've met seventeen or six I mean that's it's kind of a relevant at this point you know and I liked I saw accuracy wise again delivered a completion percentage five and a half percent greater than expectations four touchdowns no picks and I think that that last part there with the no picks is really impressive when you look at how aggressive he was six most aggressive quarterback in week eight so far obviously two games tonight but of all the quarterbacks that have played so far six most aggressive and the other thing is when you look at how he's doing it right now in general young quarterback he's been pressured a shit ton right forty six percent of its drawbacks pressured on the season most in the NFL among qualifying quarterbacks and he's this young young he hasn't flinched yet so I I really like I think you have to be happy for your giants fan of what the future could be with Daniel Jones so fantastic performance although in a loss did did get back door there so I know a lot of giants backers were happy that was the sharp side again closed five and a half some places so Daniel Jones got the pros money and look good again that he did one ill advised throw cost him dearly early in the game came back up the fumble yeah it was the fumble that probably could have gone I mean you it's a turnover no matter how you slice it but interception fumble just not sure he's doing it to throw but for anybody to watch that game was interesting there was a bad penalty at the tail end of the first half where the giants allegedly rough the ultimate leads the three for the lions and changed the dynamic a little bit in that context wonder if the giants would have actually had a chance to win that game outright if things had played differently but for alliance do nothing but bad luck I guess they wrote a break or two in that extra appointments made things a little wonky to some of the decision making it the nail to me how to chase a two and it's one of those things where you just start chasing points and you open that Pandora's box and if you don't convert things continue to create that downward spiral but a good performance from Daniel Jones you mentioned his second career game over three hundred yards four touchdowns then a nice job against a depleted lions secondary with the good I want to add one other into it of course it was in a losing effort Mike Evans yet again puts up Gargantuan numbers eleven catches hundred ninety eight yards and two touchdowns but one of those things that I'm not quite sure why the bucks don't look for Evans and crunch time when he was the stat stuffer all game long and the titans apparently had no answer in their secondary starting to get doubled a little bit dried movement of the slot to get them open and got doubled again so you know he had forty four percent of the buccaneers area are gesture die but obviously not enough however no you want to praise him and you probably didn't turn on the game quick enough but he did have the bad drop on the opening drive in the end zone the bucks were forced to settle for three instead of seven I did I did see that drop bring it up I do want to ask you about that when you throw through a little bit of congestion I know Matt Melons in your hands catch the ball all right so I wanted to find out so you your opinion is now well documented around Mike Evans if you're going to be elite God damn elite all right so that that's where I'm going with it was just really annoying game not going to complain right side wrong result and you go into halftime with the two hundred fifteen yards seventy one yard edge you trail that's a problem and then I thought we were gold right you fight your way back you blow you get up six late in the third quarter and then you know you hope officials can do their job good for Devon white by the way rookie did a fantastic job there sniff out fake laid to feel them out it was like a WWF and I believe they're wwe now but I'm old so wwf like a clothesline he just sent the snapper into orbit there in the all clearly comes out its return for a touchdown of course they blow their whistle so you can't you can't review it and it was a turnover on downs anyways because it was fourth down so said of a seven air when bucks up three with under Ford ago we were still down four in the problem is that you know you're not gonna your situation where it's four down territory or not kicking field goal to cover the spread for the good guys chase kicked to feel go forty eight yarder right through the UPRIGHTS two minutes to go get outta dodge with a one point loss single text bruce and eh lepers no team bet the board it's all about covering the number not winning games outraged good guy might have done it now if the good come the bad and this one is tough for me to kind of put down pain because I think they were very good for three quarters but it's the kind of game that you have to win on the road you're at the tail end of it's been a mammoth road trip the Oakland raiders finishing the game against Houston Texans were nearly two yards per play better as far as net is concerned and you look they did give up some penalty yards and everything else they had the football a lot less but they had an excellent chance to win the game on the road they outscored in the fourth quarter and to Shawn Watts and make some let real place to get the Texans the outright victory Deshaun Watson in Hopkins it's like the Russell Wilson Lockwood combination those two geysers like carrying goddamn franchise right now because Bill Brian is just continues to be a mess anyways I hate being singular play guy but you're one and you have a chance to kind of I don't WanNa say ice the game with your offense but certainly go up eight or if you decided to be a savage go for the to to put it up nine and there is a plan like second and six from the Houston twenty four in Gruden calls a run play and you'll lose a yard and now you're backed up to third wall and then you Veasley incomplete there and and you settle for a field goal only go for I love Josh Jacobs but the Texans Defense is superior against the run than it is pass in the Texans secondary isn't link absolute shambles with injuries right and they were down another starter who got injured in the game and as an offense you got tyrone Williams back and Jones who you trade four finally like kind of got into the fold now that he understands the offense after you were healthy as you've been at receiver like virtually all season attack the weakness man put it in the air instead then do that in that one specific drive could've put him up potentially two scores if they'd went for two and you rely on your defense against Watson and you got burn so to me there is some some mismanagement there was some playcalling late in that game as you kind of alluded to but they did blow sure well you mentioned mismanagement pain and it's funny you use such a word choice where do we want to go to Chicago bears and how they handled their performance against the chargers so I didn't watch the game because I couldn't dedicate enough time to it I'm GonNa go back and actually watch today it's one of those games that was really intriguing to me because guys that uh yeah I work with love the charger so much and they with the chargers plus four and a half and plus four I didn't see it so when there's games that's where my guys like adamant that this is the side and I don't see it myself on my I gotTa really pay close attention to this and because I have add I can't do that with like watching games so two one on and watch today but as I'm like tracking the play by play and now that I'm like looking at the data we just download it charges were not decide and we had this debate all week long and you may see something different but the charges were not decide but I'll let you share what you saw from the data I mean I'm just looking at just like two hundred and thirty one total yards of offense in the year two thousand nineteen on the road and you're only getting what would have been like three point two closing number I don it doesn't look like just by all the data that that was the right side

Antonio Brown released by Patriots following rape allegation
"To the NFL now the New England Patriots have released receiver Antonio brown pressure had been building on the patriots after allegations surfaced that brown sexually assaulted a former trainer from member station WGBH in Boston Esteban the CS has more eleven days that's how long the professional relationship between Antonio brown in the New England Patriots lasted and although the time was short it was filled with strife from the beginning brown came in as something of a character whose antics forced the Oakland Raiders to release him but the conversation became serious when brown's former trainer Britney Taylor accused him of sexual assault and rape in a lawsuit when the allegations became public patriots head coach bill Belichick remains still we still are you aware of the lawsuit when you sign Antonio brown unlocking the expanding on the statements of art and go. fans deserve to hear what you want. you know could make the team. I just said but the patriots didn't really say much more at all in the either the brown when he talked to reporters for the first time as a patriot just yesterday he answered a question about whether the NFL had told him anything about his playing status he said of course and so on I'm just here to just focus on ball and Florida Kay now dear and home stadium you know the. the pressure's been on the NFL to do something the league has battled image problems with multiple players over the past few years being accused of violence against women during the past week the NFL reportedly spoke to his accuser Taylor and Sports Illustrated reported that another unnamed woman had also accused him of sexual misconduct brown's agents we did this afternoon that Brad wants to play the game he loves and hopes to play for another team soon which would be his fourth in less than
Antonio Brown set for New England Patriots debut despite rape lawsuit
"Last weekend NFL wide receiver Antonio brown made a last minute switch from the Oakland Raiders to the New England Patriots now correspondent Carolyn mana reports brown is the subject of a civil suit involving rape and sexual assault charges ahead of this weekend's play against the Miami Dolphins brown has been practicing with the patriots all week and is not expected to be placed on the commissioner's exempt list as this is not a criminal investigation meaning he is eligible
Patriots may soon have to deal with their first Antonio Brown issue and it has to do with his number
"We have to talk about the biggest storyline in the NFL Antonio Brown as it looks like the saga for Antonio in some ways is finally ending and in other ways. It's just beginning for number eighty four as Antonio uh-huh Brown signs a one year proved deal with the New England patriots and it's hilarious because there is so much speculation when all his shenanigans with the Oakland Raiders for going on that really it was just a grand master plan for Bill Bella check to somehow land the all world talent wide receiver in sure enough he gets released from the raiders and later that day signs deal with the New England patriots another huge weapon in the offense four. Tom Brady and this has shades of what Randy Moss did did when he was with the Oakland Raiders. Moss spent some time in Oakland during his games he played for the raiders. You could just see that the big hall of fame wide receivers hardest wasn't in it. He wasn't really producing for the raiders he was now running routes with this full heart. You can just tell that he wasn't the Randy Moss when he was sooner in Oakland and then he goes to the Patriots under Bill Belichick and has a career year a record setting year with Tom. Brady Brady threw for fifty touchdown passes does that offense was just a cold plays away from being the first team to go perfect nineteen in Oh as they were trying to catch the seventy two dolphins they lose of of course the super bowl to the tremendous comeback led by Eli Manning and the New York giants. Is this going to be just like that. Are we gonNA see a patriots team. That could possibly go undefeated after Sunday night. That's a very real possibility that defense for the Patriots absolutely shut down the steelers and and if they know they're gonna get just a boatload of points on the offensive side of the ball you know Bill Belichick GonNa give all of his time and effort to making sure that that defense is ready eighty each and every week for their match. Make sure everyone's healthy ready to go that the scheme is right and we very well could see a run at history again in New England might right sound a bit presumptuous just in week one but the steelers are a classic. AFC favorite especially when they had the big three Bell Brown and Rothlisburger now with two of those three pieces Gone Smith Schuster looks to pick up the slack for Antonio Brown but now yet to find someone to pick up the slack for Juju at that wide receivers Chris to spot you also gotta be be frank here that James Connor is not living on bell. We saw that in that game Sunday night so the steelers were still a good test defensively civilly always are fantastic and brady made them just look like a peewee football team out there as he had no problem going for thirty three points in that game and pass over three hundred honored yards. You put a be in that mix with Josh Gordon Julian Edelman the running back tandem of James White as well as Sony Michelle is going to be a really tough challenge to beat this patriots team and because of that you who who's to say I mean they they could do it. They could do it you. You can't say they can't there. There is a real world possibility with the addition of Antonio Brown that the Patriots could make some history but now we gotta look back at how this came to be an Antonio oneal brown you could tell really from the Gecko once he got into camp once he started running some routes with Derek Carr in this raiders offense something clicked in his head that he did not want. I WANNA be in Oakland. I mean he did the cryotherapy happens and you chalk that up to operator malfunction with the frostbite on the feet then he goes on this insane escapade with the helmet trying to get all that taken care of in think in trying to use his old helmet. He's used forever he. He's had six months to do it and he doesn't think that's enough time to find a new helmet. I mean he's not looking for new kidney. He just needs a helmet you. There's ways to figure that out to make it fit and make it. It'd be comfortable everyone else in the NFL did it why couldn't he that becomes an issue. He's stays out of training camp. He doesn't do the walk throughs. The helmet issue did not mean he couldn't couldn't practice with the team he did that on his own accord and then he goes after the general manager of the raiders after he gets fine for actions he knows our final. He did them with that in mind. There wasn't like that fine just came out of the sky on him and Mike mayock gets verbally costed by Antonio Brown he goes on a barrage. I use of slayer of slurs cuss words to Mike May Auchan your raiders still still planned on playing him in there Monday night game against the broncos broncos that says a lot about the raiders as an organization that they were willing to take this abuse from Antonio Brown and take all this Prima Donna behavior behavior that was happening with Ab and still play him Monday night when he's barely practice with the team we talked earlier in the season here here on this show about how Antonio Brown by taking all this media attention has helped the raiders rookies developed because they haven't had to deal with it and that's still true in the lot of the raiders rookies have talked talked about in themselves and the second year players have said by having Antonio Brown. It's been nice that they haven't had to deal with the media coverage and hard knocks and that was really a lot more centered around Antonio Brown but he's also had a terrible example as an a way to conduct yourself as professional with what he's done with the raiders clearly didn't want to be there show the the reaction video when he finally gets released from the raiders and all of that finally goes down and I think the raiders are better off for it you if you're going to establish a new culture in Oakland. You can't have this going on in your locker room on your sideline. You need to get Antonio Brown out of out of there if he wants out all the better let him go you cut your losses just saved a lot of money by voting that twenty nine million that you would yet. You'RE GONNA pay him over the three years Antonio Brown you get your wish you go you get to play for the Patriots I think both sides can kind of wash their hands of the issue but now the rest of the NFL has to deal with the Patriots and Tom Brady having Tony Brown as viable and very real. You'll weapon for them

Antonio Brown, released by Raiders, reportedly signs with Patriots
"Oakland Raiders head coach Jon Gruden announced the team released disgruntled star receiver Antonio brown from his contract today I wish Antonio nothing but the best and I'm sorry that we never got a chance to see him in silver black but brown will be wearing nautical blue red and new century silver brown has signed with the patriots I'm Evan Hannah.
