"7 career wins in 16 starts, likes wet going, so if it is a little damp out there, I think that would be a good thing. Most of the winds for Pauline's pearl are at smaller tracks, but we do see a win on the Derby undercard at Churchill downs and I think Pauline's pearl is a very capable sword. I like the second off the layoff I pick Pauline's pearl, but I like desert dawn and I'm kind of looking for value here because I think it's pretty wide open. Well, you and I are on the same mayor in this spot. I like Pauline pearl as well. But I mainly like her because I think there's plenty of speed in this race. And I think Pauline's pearl wants pace to set up her run and she's going to get it. The fact that she's never ran at San Anita run at San Anita doesn't bother me because she seems to run well just about anywhere that she goes. Not too many people got to see her 2023 debut because it was in the Houston ladies classic at Sam Houston when they were not able to send their signal out. If you could watch the race on their website or if you're outside the United States, you could watch the race, but for the most part, a lot of the people who would normally have liked to see that race never got to see it. It was a good effort. She's facing a better field tomorrow, but I think she's going to get the right pace and like you, Dave. I think Pauline's pearl is going to be tough. In the grade one beholder mile race 8 tomorrow at Santa Anita. Well, the lone graded stake tomorrow at Oak Lawn park is named for one of the best mayors that we have seen probably in the last 25 years. This is the grade two azeri for Phillies and mayors going a mile in a 16th. Azeri herself won the Apple blossom, the premier event for Phillies and mayors at Oakland park on a yearly basis. I believe three times. So it all makes sense that there was a race named in her honor. In fact, we got to hear Terry Wallace's stretch call of the 2003 edition of the apple blossom with azeri winning at the show's open. So nice that there's a race named in her honor and they have a good field of Phillies and mirrors showing up for this mile and a 16th event. It's always, you always get some of the best Phillies and mirrors in the country in these top level steak races at Oakland, whether it's the zeri or the Apple blossom secret oath who of course is the Kentucky oaks winner from last year shows up in this field clary air who was last seen in that three horse photo in the breeders cup distaff with male fat and blue stripe makes her 2023 debut interstate daydream last year's black eyed Susan winner shows up in this race. It's a really good field. It is a really good field and clarity air is much better than this group of horses. Secret oath and hidden connection and interstate daydream are making their four year old debut and I think four year olds sometimes take a big step, particularly if they've been off for a little while and a couple of those have been. But Clara here is among the best mayors in the country. I mean, she had every opportunity to win, that breeders cup distaff and just missed against male fat. I liked Clara that day. I like her much more tomorrow. I can't imagine getting 6 to 5. Doesn't she look like she's going to be three to 5? Well, if you think that she was kind of head and head with male fat most of last year, what would male fat be if she showed up in this race? That's pretty much what Clara should be. Yeah, so then she should be two to 5. I don't disagree with you, my friend. So the question is, it sounds like you're picking Clare. If we want to bet this race, I know you're not somebody who's willing to lay 5 to win two or lay 5 to win three. So who do you use underneath clary air if you're trying to really punch an X actor or two? I mean, in any sort of pick 5 pick 6, I'm going to single clearer. I think she just stands out among this group. Secret oath, I mean, you're talking about the oaks winner who's three for Florida Oakland and three for 5 at the distance folded in the breeder's cup, but maybe that race was just better competition or it was too far or what have you. Lovely ride at a huge price is very sharp right now does like oak on a great deal, stepping up in class, but I don't think is that far back of everybody else other than Clare in here. So maybe I'll dabble with lovely ride underneath, but to me, I can really only see Clara. Yeah, I think clear air stands out as well. I've never been a gigantic secret oath fan. I respect her. I've just normally been on the side that I've been trying to beat her. I didn't, even though she was winning at Oklahoma park and looking really, really good doing it last year as a three year old Philly. I thought she was kind of beating not great fields in those races. That being said, she showed that I was wrong in beating a really good field in the Kentucky oaks last year. I certainly respect her, but even if secret oath runs her best race, I don't think she beats clary if she runs one of her normal good races. So like you, Dave, I'm gonna put Clare on top. 6 to 5 morning. I think we can only dream about 6 to 5 at post time. I don't know if I don't know what I would do if she's two to 5 three to 5 if I would try to pound exactos or if I would single in some sort of horizontal play, but more so I'm just a fan of this race and looking for declaring air and some other really good Phillies and mayors in the grade to his area race 9 tomorrow at Oakland. All right, we're going to take our first break. When we come back, we're going to dive into that monster card that Dave alluded to at Tampa Bay downs. They have 5 stakes in all tomorrow, four of them are graded stakes. You're listening to the weekend stakes preview on the horse racing radio network. Sam Houston race park's live thoroughbred meat runs through April 8th and features a new afternoon race schedule for 2023 with racing Friday through

"Stakes preview here on the horse racing radio network. I'm Bobby Newman along with Dave Friedman. We've got 12 stakes to look at on tonight's edition of the weekend states preview a little bit of a slower weekend Dave as far as the major three year old races on the way toward this year's Triple Crown, but it is the marquee event at Tampa Bay downs the Tampa Bay Derby. It doubts as a really nice card this weekend and I think there's some interesting races around the country. I'm really looking forward to the azeri at Oakland park, but there's good racing all over the place. If you're looking for opportunities, I think you can find it mixed in from coast to coast this weekend. All right, well, we're going to start on the left coast with our program tonight. There are two great at stakes on the San Anita card tomorrow. By the way, I hope the weather is a little bit better tomorrow than it was today, is of course they did cancel racing this afternoon at San Anita with rainfall throughout the day. Hope for a little bit better weather and obviously good racing conditions as we go forward with stakes races, both tomorrow and Sunday on their scheduled programs. First of the stakes we're going to look at race number 5 out at Santa Anita tomorrow. It's the grade three San Carlos. These are the sprinters, four year olds and up going 7 furlongs on the main track, a short but sweet field of 6 going to post and two favorites on the morning line both look like their major players. Number two forbidden kingdom and the 5 get her number. Yeah, I think those two make the most sense. And my question for you, Bobby is, is forbidden kingdom going to clear or a spirit of mechanic in a run with forbidden kingdom and maybe set up something off the pace. Well, I'm going to say that I think spirit of Makena or is going to be right outside forbidden kingdom and actually may out finish forbidden kingdom because he's going to have the benefit of the outside draw. And listen, I know that usually go first in these, but I'm going to say, I think spurred of McKenna is an up and comer that is a major player in this race. I know he has not been facing the competition that he is going to see tomorrow, but he's done what he needs to do. He's lightly raced. He's never run a bad race. And I think a repeat of his last race and allowance when where he went 6 furlongs in one O 8 and three is good enough to make him one of the ones to beat if not the horse to beat tomorrow in the San Carlos. Yeah, I only see the three of them and my fear is that forbidden kingdom and spirit of mackenna are kind of at each other's throat early on and maybe for most of the race and get her number gets a perfect trip and kind of rolls home late. So I picked get her number, but I agree with you from a value standpoint of forbidden kingdom is 8 to 5 and get her number is 9 to 5 and spirit of McKenna is four to one. I think spirit of McKinney is the best value. How would you like to know a little bit about spirit and McCain of before his first race? He debuted at delmar last August, and he won at odds of 41 to one. Yeah, I would have liked that. If you had tipped me off to that, I would have been appreciative. I'm fairly certain if you could have told me that I would be picking spirit of McKenna to win the 2023 San Carlos. I may have put a few dollars on him in that first race. Now that being said, Bobby, in spirit of McKenna's second race, and I understand it was that a mile and we're running 7 furlongs tomorrow number one holding the loot beat spirit of Makena. So maybe some of the other horses in here how be it in holding the loot aren't all that far back from kind of the primary candidates. Now in holding the loot like number 5 get her number is probably wanting a little bit of pace in front to help. He's more of a route type. So shortening up to 7 furlongs, the faster they go early on, the better chance that he has to close and get the win. It's a short field, but it's a fun race. The grade three San Carlos tomorrow at San Anita. The featured race tomorrow at San Anita is race number 8, and this is the grade one beholder mile a race that for many, many years was run over at Hollywood park and was known as the vanity handicap. Now it's the beholder mile named for that great champion beholder from not too many years ago. Good field gathering had to see this race. There are very few horses in here that I would eliminate. And if I'm playing a pick four pick 5 pick 6, something like that. I'm going to have to use a whole bunch of them. I do not have very strong feelings. And the morning line did not come out the way I was hoping for it because I thought I might get a price on somebody that I had a little bit of an inkling towards. And it just didn't really happen. I certainly look at fun to dream for Bob Baffert, who has won 6 of 7 career starts, not three of those are against Cal breads and this is stretching out from 7 furlongs to a mile. I thought fun to dream and I still kind of think fun to dream is going to be the favorite in cure 5 to two in the morning line, but I'm wondering if that's going to be more like 9 to 5 when they actually break from the gate. Number four midnight memories, another baffert horse is coming off the layoff and was actually the favorite against fun to dream when they ran on opening day at Santa Anita towards the end of December. Number 5, a more ready for Brad Cox as one back to back races and really run his best recently or she has run her best recently the figs recently fit nicely with this group number 7 desert dawn is coming off a layoff. I think his face really good horses and lost midnight memories last time, but the desert Don was the favorite in that race. And number two Pauline's pearl, 7 career wins in 16 starts, likes wet going, so if it is a little damp out there, I think that would be a good thing. Most of the winds for Pauline's pearl are at smaller tracks, but we do see a win on the Derby undercard at Churchill

"Those horses were running against Cairo consort in those in those terse states that Gulfstream and that was a really solid effort. I think alpha Bella as opposed to some of those hasn't been exposed yet. She can improve upon that effort. But I played against Cairo consort last weekend. I was looking for Philly's that weren't in those races. I was just a little bit dubious of her and I'm sort of still taking a little bit of a negative view towards those races until proven wrong. Okay, as I mentioned, 5 stakes on the card at Tampa made downs. We've got a couple of nice graded stakes on the card at San Anita. We've got the great two azaria Oakland park, grade three hurricane birdie at Gulfstream, so great at stakes all over any of the other big races around the country really intrigued you from a betting standpoint? Well, I mean, I mean, I've got to do some more work, obviously at Oklahoma park, but I mean, definitely the azaria. I don't know from a betting standpoint, but just from a watching standpoint, always really excited to see top class horse like Clare and secret oath, both come back in that race and, you know, you got a couple of other nice Phillies in that as airy. So that looks like it's shaping up to be a really good prep for the Apple blossom next month and that's a race I'll keep my eye on. And I'm always taking a good look at okun park on Saturday they have such a good racing program. Yeah, it's nice that they have a race named in honor of azeri. I believe she won the Apple blossom three times herself. So aside from the lengthy layoff where she was offered like over a year and I went to Lourdes sero, or went for more to sero to Dwayne Lucas. Yeah, she was really, really good, and of course, strutted her stuff on the national stage in the breeders cup distaff. As well. But nice race named in honor of the great race mayor azeri, who loved it there at Oklahoma parked the grade to his area race 9 on Saturday's card in Hot Springs, Arkansas. All right, we're going to take our final break. This is the bris net dot com call and show on HR and the phone lines are open. Give us a call 888-966-4776 is the number.

"I think there's a lot of different angles to go in. I personally like reincarnate, but I just want to know what you're all thoughts were. Appreciate the call, bob. So let's talk about the rebel a little bit here. You've got a couple of Brad Cox runners who are the morning line favorite in the rebel, verifying who drew the rail coming off a resounding allowance win going a mile last time out giant mischief coming out of a race in the springboard mile where he did not have a very good trip and still ran a good race finishing second that day, reincarnate, who's making his first start out of Bob Baffert's barn now for Tim yak team coming off win in the grade three sham, but real good field stepping up in race 11 on Saturday at Oakland in the rebel. Yeah, I agree. I think the top two contenders are verifying for Cox off that sharp allowance win. I'm a little concerned about the rail post. And the other one is number 6 reincarnate. And let me just say this about reincarnate. He ran his first two races on the tarp, didn't run poorly. I didn't think he broke sharply in his first dirt race three back. But in his maiden two bag Bobby, I thought he completely reasserted control a deep stretch and they were never going by him. And he's a big, powerful horse that to me took a big step forward in the sham. He had a speedball in there spun intended that was trying to make the lead and he dueled with him through a 22 on one fraction and then newgate had dead aim at him and mid stretch and he turned it back and once again, even though that margin is ahead or a neck. I thought he was not those horses weren't going by him. And I think he has big upside and one thing I like about reincarnate is I think he has all this natural speed, all this natural quickness. If the track's off, he's bred to relish at good magic has been awesome with omelet tracks with his progeny from his first crop. And I just think he's going right to the front with John B and if they run him down, then he's not the real deal, but I think he's the horse to beat. I like him wired a wire in the rebel. Yeah, it looks on paper like that. He may have some company on the front end, but he proved last time out that he can handle company on the front end and keep on going. He's going to have to do it against what I think is a little bit stronger field and go a little bit longer distance and also trying oklahoman park for the first time in the grade two rebel ghosts race 11 on the card at Oklahoma and park. And I'll add one thing also real quick, excuse me, there are a number I thought number obviously number three red route one. I think that's a horse that if you're playing vertical exotics that I want to use in underneath because I think he has he's coming on for asthma and off the pace horse. And I think number 7 confidence game got caught chasing a little bit of a hot pace while instant coffee and two fills set back and then made their run later on and he can move forward off that third in the comp and at 15 to one on the morning line. He's kind of oversight look for underneath and like tries are exact as the rebel is one of three stakes on the Saturday card at Oakland park the first of which is the carousel goes as ray 7, but the other graded stake on the card is race number ten. It's the grade three honey bee for the three year old Phillies and they're going to go a mile and a 16th there at Oak Lawn park another good field and another big field going to come together this a big field of 12 and I know it's a race that contains that or contains a horse that you're really looking forward to play.

"That's it's going to cost 5 to $8 per person. It's going to go from downtown the downtown area. You know, I would I would imagine probably somewhere around Andrews and Broward. You know, around around there to the beach and then back and then back Um, is that is that like happening or that's like It's a dream. It's happening. It is. Wow. Uh this week on Tuesday. The mayor digging the time. The mayor of Fort Lauderdale, uh, revealed that they accepted a proposal from Elon Musk is, um, the boring company. To build that. Total. Yeah. Wow. Now, if it happens in our lifetime, I don't know. Now think about this for a moment and we are at sea level. Yeah, right. And we're basically a sandbar. Yes, that's where we are right. Why we don't have basements, okay? And and now and now we're going to undertake an underground. Tunnel, which is a pretty reasonable, pretty big distance from there to there, Right. Um, that's going to be, uh, something to watch. Yeah, like, uh under Las Olas. Yeah. They would probably have to start. Would imagine they would start east of the New River. Where The current tunnel. Yeah. It's probably going to run right down Las Olas. Yeah. It would have been better off putting like an above ground system kind of like monorail thing would've been cooler, which is what they originally had in mind for 5 95 remember That that was the original plan for the 5 95. Let's call it 5 95 2 point. Oh, yeah, because it was antiquated when it was finished. Um That was the original plan not to widen it, but to go up. And I guess it was cost prohibitive and they ended up widening it and they did a phenomenal job on it, by the way. The way it's laid out. You know, everything is very easy. Much better than it was before. Yeah, Absolutely. Um, I mean, I live right off 5 95, and I wouldn't drive on it. Yeah, it was. It was just a mess. So I would always take the back roads, you know, to go home rather than you know, deal with all that mess. They did a nice job on it. Uh, yeah, and it it It's been got close to 10 years since they finished. That's a superhighway right there. Yeah, it's big. And it still is not antiquated. No, you know I can handle it can still handle the traffic and trust me. Traffic out list has gotten a lot worse over the last 10 years. Um, that part of town is just booming. You know everything they tear down, they put up a condo. You know, Now there's talk about tearing down the mall and putting up a condo. They already tore down the fashion mall. Put up a condo. They tore down American Express put up a condo. You already can't drive on university drive. I avoid that road as much almost as much as I avoid Oakland Park Boulevard. Yeah. If you if you look at that company that boring company on how they make that tunnel Um, it's like they they bore it. And then they are laying a sleeve in there so that they can insert those machines was amazing. Yeah. Yeah, That wasn't that that think Miami Miami Port. That's pretty cool, too. Right through here. Diamond been down there. It's pretty cool, and that's a massive tunnel to. I mean, it's not tight. It's big. It's big. Yeah. Now the one in in Vegas doesn't have the Issues that we have here. You don't dig down three ft in Vegas and hit water? No, but is that in play in Vegas? Yeah, I wonder what where they use that goes from where To where? At the convention center. Yeah, probably up the strip or something. It's gotta I guess, from the strip to the convention center and back or maybe the airport. Maybe I don't know it was. This article is mostly about Fort Lauderdale, and it just mention that it's already Um And then working in invaded one. And there's something called they call it the tube. Yeah, that goes to Paris. Yeah, A lot of that goes under the ground there, there's under the English Channel. Actually, there's a good movie about that. I think it's in prime And is based on that on that, Uh, that rail that goes from London. To Paris, Actually pretty good flick. Oh, cool. All right, we'll take a break. Come back. Take a few calls. "That's just my opinion. Yeah, I agree. Certainly at your favorite track in Oakland Park in that Oakland Mile, just really took to it. That was by my standards. First tried a mile and just wore down the opposition and won by a nose. So Yeah, I'm totally on the same page with you. Yes. And as far as mischievous Alex, go, Yeah, that was a huge jump. In a speed figure from the previous race for the last one off the shelf. They often bounce off of those efforts, so I can certainly see why you're playing against Mr Miss Alex. Certainly have to factor in that a rat. Ortiz will not be on the mound today. So it'll be a jockey. That doesn't know the horse. So another. Another factor against Mr was out. Yeah. So the key? Basically, what we're doing is exactly and try effective boxes with the 25 and six and we'll play next. Go on top for twice as much as the others. Um, but the five is 10 to 1 morning, right and should be relatively close to that The two is 92. And you're going to get about 45. I think based on the the odds of the way they look right now with the payouts from yesterday's, uh, doubles, so anyway, about 4 to 5 on next go and then use him for twice as much on top of the two and the five. All right, play those exotics with heavy favorite. That's the way to do it. Uh, where we going next? We will go to Churchill Downs. Next couple races we have here are pretty interesting. Churchill and Santa Anita at Churchill. We're going to waste 10 and the horse we like. Here is Number six. Top gunner for John Ortiz, 15 to 1. Morning Lane and You know, Jay, I know you follow Oakland very best. This may have been the only horse We're one of the only horses Sadler had ready to run first time over that track this year. Uh, this horse won by 10 lengths for John Sadler was claimed by Ortiz out of the race. And then Artie's running back in 14 days and didn't bounce that bad. Ran a six that day. The first time there, take about five or six to win. This race starts to an eight and three but now has a good 67 weeks into this race and really looks to be set up to go back to that number today. Yeah, absolutely. And certainly you know, the race is over. Oakland can be a predictor of success over Churchill Downs. I think, actually, sometimes the Oakland race, you know, attract a better grade of horses for the level, and sometimes it's a class drop going on Churchill Downs. I agree with that completely. For the users will use number four Qadri. This one is just, uh, throwing five. You know, uh, his ran five and a quarter five and three quarters three times this year. Trainer change from Larry Jones. The norm Cash don't know much about Norm Cash. I know Larry Jones is south of this horse is coming back pretty quick. So I expect a good effort out of this one today to hopefully repeated that five. Find the two morning line and then the last one we use is another price. That's number nine. He's a babe. Ran a nine on the stop last time out, taking a little bit of money but had a seven last year is a three year old with trouble. So if that seven is any indication, nine first time out, he should get back to that seven or better this time and 15 to 1 a definite use, So we're going to use um, number six top gunner to win. We're going to play in exotics with the four and the nine Very nice would be kind of sweet to get exactly with a couple of 15 to 1 shots in there. Uh, Roger, if you're writing this one listeners are going to get paid. This is absolutely worth a swing and top gunner. The topic here. Correct And the last race we're going to do is raise seven at Santa Anita. And if you like those prices, you're going to love these prices. So, um, we're going with race seven and the horse we're picking is actually 21 Morning line. And that is number two, never for money. This horse tried her for the first time last out at Golden Gate and ran a 7.5. Now she does have to improve off that to win this one. But that's 7.5, which was significantly better than anything she ran as three certainly bodes well for a forward move today. Yeah, And, uh, certainly that was a solid effort up at the gate and really took to the long Agree, agree, And that's one of the reasons here. We're thinking with a little bit of time in here, maybe four weeks. This one is going to have a solid shot today. Um, if nothing else to give him the money at a big price, But she's going to be our key. We're going to use with number three Constanta and this one. Um, this one's just a consistent horse. If you look at the paragraphs Started off with fourteen's as a three year old than just fired eleven's, uh, then fired nines and got down to a six last out. And you would expect that this one is just going to start firing six is right now. So had 72 for, um John Settler and Rispoli. We have to use that one. And we got another big price. And, um, it's number four Gypsy spirit at 12 to 1 Morning line. Ever since this horse came over from Europe, you knew what you were going to get from this horse, and that was an eight. The horse ran Nine consecutive eight in this in this country before going to Golden Gate last, um a few weeks ago and running a four and three quarters. So does that number set this horseback? Or is this horse finally moved to a new level? And this is one of those where you take a different approach, depending on the price. This horse is the 2 to 1 favorite. You look at her to bounce. This horse is 12 to 1 will probably be every bit at 12 to 1 and when we absolutely have to use in this spot And then the last one we're going to use is the outside horse number eight superstition by two morning line paired 6.5. But we'll probably get a little bit of a wide trip here videos up and he generally does a great job of saving ground. But we'll also use number eight superstition. So the key is number two, never for money. And we're going to use with the 34 and eight Okay, taken a swing against that favorite with a 20 to 1 shot, which hopefully will not live up to his name today ever for money. Hopefully, there'll be plenty of money for the listeners. And for you, Roger Roger. Appreciate all the picks up. I know you'll be looking forward to that big car today, So let's have at it. Let's let's take it home. Sounds good. J looking forward to it. And nice job. Thanks. Thanks. Roger. Roger Neubauer. From thorough graph. We'll take our first break at this point, and I'll come back with one of my picks. And then Mr Steve Pollock joining us as well. Don't touch that dial. Joel Rosario takes another crack and number eight overtook who's got some past races, including it's known agenda that might make her man make him a contender on his best day. So that's the Belmont field. We'll talk about the other races, uh, in the course of the show, But right now, let's welcome Roger Neubauer from thorough graph to the show. Good morning, Roger. Good morning, J. How are you doing? I'm doing well, sir, Are you all ready for this huge, huge day. Yes, I've been getting ready for a couple days actually had you are correct. This is quite a card and really looking forward to getting into this today and I think the track is going to be much better. I think everybody watched yesterday and that they lose of rain that came down and, uh, but I expect the track to be fast today. They're dry, it dries out pretty quickly. It certainly does. So, uh, yeah, I I would say Thorogood half had a couple of nice scores throughout the weekend before, uh before I forget, not that I ever forget anything. But let me just mention a couple of your your exploits at Gulfstream Park yesterday. 10 40 winner in race eight at a $38 exacta and you scored last week at Churchill delivering a 55 80 exacta. The 91 combination Array six and then last Sunday and raised one of Churchill $25. Winter Nice and Race. Six of $42. Exactly, So you certainly did a little damage for the fans. Yeah, it's been. It's been going from track to track. But Churchill has been pretty good for us, uh, this year, so it's a It's a shorter me. I believe. I think they're only run until the end of June. But It's always It's always a good track for us. Yeah, Yeah, definitely So, And it's a nice full field. So before we get into your picks, Roger, I asked both you and Steve if you might come up with a Belmont memory or two, and you came up with one that you're you finally remember if you can Please tell us your father's Belmont memory. Yeah. So my fondest memory. It's uh um Is of the 2000 and four Belmont and Smarty Jones. Um we were fortunate enough that year to see all of his preparation is, um In Arkansas, the Southwest rebel in the Arkansas Derby and then wasn't at the Derby or the Preakness, but got a chance to go to the Belmont, especially when it was clear it was going to be a Triple Crown. And there was 120,000 people there that day. And that horse. That horse was a rock star. I mean, they had a camera back in this stall, and every every time the camera went on that horse 120,000 people stood up and started cheering. I mean, it was just nuts the entire day, the second he walked on the track to come to the saddling ring. It was just it was an amazing thing to be around. And it was amazing to hear be able to hear a pin drop with 120,000 people around you after they crossed the finish line. That is the quietest I've ever heard a crowd go ever Yeah. And, uh, certainly, Smarty Jones had the Triple Crown on the line, and, uh, Certainly gave it everything he had. Yeah, you know, coming into the stretch, She still had a good read. Nobody was paying attention to anybody behind them. They were just looking at him, So the crowd was just it was mayhem. And it was really just a fun day to be there. The cards. The card was still very good. You know, It's not like it is now with eight grade ones. But card was still very good. It was a fun day to be around. We actually had a horse in an earlier race on the card that day, so that was really nice to And it was just It was a lot of fun and horse that we got to watch, Sort of mature at Oakland Park. And then unfortunately, the they didn't end like we wanted it to. But it was still an amazing experience. Someone I'll never forget. Yeah, so Roger, are we going to start today? Well, we'll start at Belmont, and we're going to do the Met Mile as you mentioned earlier. And the thing we like about this race, we're not against Nick's go, but what we are against our two horses that are going to beat that rather heavily. The 2nd and 3rd favorites. And the first one. We're against his mischievous Alex. Um The one post is not the best post in the world for a mile race at Belmont. But besides that this horse jumped way up to a lifetime Top negative. 4.5 last time out. And we're really expecting this horse to react to this today and at 5 to 2, maybe even 2 to 1. This horse. This horse is a play against as well as the third favorite silver State at 72 Morning line. This one is different. This one is just not fast enough to go with the other The other horses in the race, So the main play here is we're against the the one and the three. Yeah, that was gonna go with that We're going to go with, um three horses. Well, then we can't toss Mexico. He's just too fast. He used to run two negative quarters in his career. Each time that he's bounced a little bit. He's come right back to that number. Now you're throwing something new into it here with the ship overseas, and we'll see. But anyway, we have to use him. But we're we really like Dr Post number 2 92, who ran a negative. 1.5 hasn't had a lot of career races, then really looks to be second started his four year old career sitting on a big A big race. And the last one will uses by my standards who ran a negative to last out. I like courses like this. I don't even don't know what your thoughts are, J. But as I courses that are proven that a mile and an eighth and and further and then they're cutting back to this mile distance, they just sometimes to me seem to have a better foundation in a straight Mylar. But that's just my opinion. Yeah, I agree. Certainly at your favorite track in Oakland Park in that Oakland Mile, just really took to it. That was by my standards. First tried a mile.

"It wasn't like he had long had this idea that we got to do all this stuff. It actually came from Customs and Border patrol themselves. You might recall for the first time in American history. Our border Patrol endorsed a presidential candidate back in 2016. And it was Donald Trump. Why? Because he listened to them and then adopted their concerns. As you know a obvious Cornerstone of his campaign. So do you suddenly have people in Customs and border patrol that Retiring match and they don't want to deal if we do see the relaxing of policies that were what they called for in the first place. Policies that would make their lives more dangerous if we just allow people to pour in once again. And just a kind of tired Bo around what Evan was talking about. Cover this at length during the peak of the caravans, but it has been a while and if you missed, you know a lot of the thief acts pertaining to so the only way that you can come across our border legally is by declaring asylum. What asylum means is that you are escaping. Ah, hostile country. You are not safe in your own country and by international law, Asylum would be whatever the next country is that you're fleeing. So if you're fleeing from Honduras, Guatemala At a minimum. I mean, based upon what direction you're going, you could go through, too. But at least one that would be Mexico in road here. That is where asylum ultimately would be declared and then that none of it is when you would actually have migrants that ended up declaring asylum and her southern border. We would put them up in temporary housing. We pay for them. All of us pay for them to be there for us long that takes And then for the ones that actually would show up for court dates, you would end up having well over 90% rejected the last I saw judges rejected 96% of those asylum claims on Lee 4% of those that were doing this or legitimate asylum seekers. Everybody else just trying to game the American system by taking advantage of what we have to offer. And not going about things the right way. So you know that is the important devil in these details. Now speaking about the border wall, I provided all throughout the Trump administration, various updates and this will be the final one. There you go all the way back to the president's campaign to build the wall. What actually did happen during the Trump administration. Well, here's where we stand based on the latest information available from Customs and Border Patrol. We now have over 1000 miles of a border wall on our southern border. 452 new miles of wall were constructed under the Trump administration. We now have 54 4% of our southern border with Mexico containing some form a barrier that was up from 34% pre Trump. So it's pretty notable that most of the progress on the border wall actually happened within the past year after the administration wanna syriza of legal challenges that allowed for the construction of the wall with reallocate ID defense money. So here's the irony of all this at the pace, which was most recently occurring and President Trump remained in office he would have during the course of his second term, been able to complete the border wall. Now. What's unclear is what will be other than construction of it will cease at some point tomorrow and if not tomorrow, on Thursday, Be right back. "Subject, Jim. The trouble is that love that you say we're going into the home stretch, too. It's just It's such a nice horse racing term. It's a beautiful thing. I love that karma. I like the intro there, my friend. Good Segway into Jim each and every week makes you follow Jim on Twitter. He is at Hawthorne, Jim. So, of course, right now, No racing at Hawthorne is we've tracked the winter meat is over. We'll move into the harness. Meet here. And what about 67 weeks? Right, Jimmy? Yeah, we're actually we got to spring her over and meet before harness. So it's a beautiful thing. The spring thoroughbred their back, they start march 6th grade two months of spring thoroughbreds and summer harness False thoroughbred. So, Yeah, I'll be 10 months of racing at Hawthorne. So it's a welcomed a little break. But it is It's only a short break, and then we're right back at it. You know, Jimmy, our CNN need up. I heard you won a couple horses lay a couple weeks ago on the show, and we didn't have time to ask. But you know things have quieted down out Deputy head. Either bad luck or something was going on in there. A virus horses were dying of two of the time. There was like 33 horses. Um Have you ever seen anything close to that anywhere else? I can't remember hearing anything in the years that I've been violent sports the 50 plus years and What was the final conclusion of that was a bad It really was aware year there. It's an Indian, and I think a lot of it had to do with how the track was set up. They had a really wet winter. So when you have a track that's drying and they weapon drying and going back and forth. You have to explore that kind of thing and injuries or something that as you know, Mike, it happens in each and every sport, but you want to monitor every time it happened, and I'll tell you you can count on less than one hand the amount of injuries that we have like that at heart far, far, most recent beat Or really, it does come down to kind of how the track is how the weather is, but also how horsemen train treat and how they handle medication for the horses. And actually, it's a perfect leading because this year with the Kentucky Derby guys, they're not allowing the use of Lasix for three year olds for the first time. And basically as long as we can know, And that's one of those things where that is kind of use that the diary tickets also in anti bleeding medication. It's also used the time sometimes mask other medications. So I really commend the racing industry for not having the use of LASIK. But it is something we're going after Watch for all these Derby press, and they actually start off this weekend. Oh, the jury prep start already this weekend. So what's the first big one, Jimmy? Yeah, the first ones on the cop That's this weekend at Fairgrounds and Fairgrounds in Oakland Park of the two places you have to watch because they have kind of a three race sequence leading into the Kentucky Derby. All of those races that have points so calm when you talk about the LeCompte this weekend. This is a race where a lot of horses going to turns for the first time. It's raised 13 at the fairgrounds. This is probably one of my better place of the weekend, too. It's a horse. That's 12, the one in the morning line. The three horse beat beat. But the horse across the board Joe, tell him Oh follows this horse from a winner Churchill Downs to fairgrounds. And I think that's the key. He loved this horse first time out. When a jock loves the horse guys, you know that they want to stick with it because they want that Derby mount So I love the three horse BP, but race 13 of Fairgrounds. The guys, there's three old races everywhere. So that's pretty cool thing to other races to look at Laurel Park Race eight. The six horse Kenny had a notion. But that one across the board as well in the Tampa race seven. The six horse, the Alligator Hunter also bet they're one across the board and let's make some money. So raise 13 at the fairgrounds. That's the Derby preparation. The third the number three horse across the board, right raised 13. Will go Laurel Park, the eighth race, the six horse across the board and then finally at Tampa Bay. You said Tampa Bay Downs right here in the seventh race, the six horse again across the board. Yeah, and watch all these races. These are all three year old stakes racist, so you'll start to see some horses emerging on the Derby trail, and I think there's a chance to make the money early on here, Jimmy before we let you go. Who do you think had more fun post career or during the career? Secretariat or Bill Holden. Secretariat. For sure. Man, Secretary of the breeding machine for sure, Jimmy Have a great weekend that the CIA got you. There is Jim Miller at Hawthorne, Jim on Twitter. Let's make some money this weekend. Yeah. The stats have been great. I mean, Mike was so hot throughout the latter half of the football season. What was the stat on? I got a little seven weeks. Great. I had b, I go pee. Can you help me out? Because really, I don't lie to people. It sounds impossible. Got to go makes gotta be hedging because you know what? We still got their reputation. I'm a handicapper. I'm not it out, You know? I mean, if I money I get paid to make my picks, but not by. You know individual people anymore. I just cove. It's just put a crimp into that whole thing. So let me just tell you If you would bet me to last with me or the odd couple. Well, if you bet the odd couple last week, ladies and gentlemen and you better dime Europe like 30 something, 100, Okay, but because we were 51, But if you bet my picks the last month BB Did the tabulation if you bet Ah 1000 bucks. Europe 18 Hundreds. I mean, $18,300 If you bet 500 Europe 9000. Okay. If you bet 100 bucks Europe, you know Europe, 1800. Period. That's a hell of a return on investment of saying that. Yeah, well, you know what? We are the stimulus bill. That Zach that you know Congress. Forget about Congress. Don't get to you some day. You know what I mean? But we are the stimulus package. The gods couple. We'll take that any day. I mean, that's a that kind of are why we love it. All right, so let's get some best place. I really only have one that I like. It's a be a tough weekend. I know Mike and I both like something in the Ravens Buffalo game. Dread to go against my partner here. I hope we're thinking alike, but we're going to see I'll start us off. The Ravens have won six in a row. The Ravens have covered seven and road John Harbaugh's now the winningest coach in NFL history in terms of road playoff wins. He's nine and three against the spread is a dog in the postseason. I'm gonna roll with the trends. I think that the Ravens and their ability to run the ball, something that Buffalo didn't do well this year was stopped the run in with the Ravens ability to run the ball. Just the way they're playing right now. I like the Ravens. The Colts won in there last week and hung almost 500 yards and Buffalo. They didn't win the game, but they're really dominated the stats. I think the Ravens are a little bit of a live dog here, and I like them getting the 2.5 to 3. If you can get the three God bless you. That's probably gone, But I'm gonna roll with the Ravens this weekend. Okay? And Carmine going together way on this and the reason I am Has not become first of all off for games were pretty tight. Yeah, but I took this is the game to me. I mean ramp, Green Bay, Even Cleveland, Kansas City, Even Can't debate in New Orleans Anybody's game up in the year with the points Buffalo seems to have a slight edge, but not an overwhelming that So one surprise me if I lose this game,.

In The Gate
Racing Without Gambling
"I'm guessing you've heard of the Kentucky Derby Abi to this race that's run usually early in May we haven't yet talked about the Kentucky Derby this year but that's about to change as we're finally starting to get into rounds of prep races that will winnow the field down to twenty for the run for the roses on May the second so to help us do that. We bring in voice. We haven't heard on this show for too long and and that's Jonathan Listener who writes for horse racing nation. Welcome back Jonathan. So before we get into a few specific horses. WHO's impressed you the most so far on the triple triple crown trail? I think Dennis moment to start the list. Dentists moment strikes to lead right at the top of the stretch at Delta. Two lanes lead our three lately for the final final furlong. Dennis this moment with five length lead scabbard with clear sailing up the second but Dennis moment kicks off the road at the Kentucky Derby in a big way. He barely moved a muscle. That we we have it. RESTRAINING NATION DOT COM user generated Kentucky Derby contender rankings and despite his trouble that experience career dentist moment has not left that number. One spot. You talking about a grade three winner. Who was going to be the favourite the Breeders Cup Juvenile L. Stumbles out of the gate? You know he could be undefeated if you look back at his debut he lost his jockey was really no fault zone so he has the two losses and between between them. He's sandwich to really really nice. Looking victories including his debut at Ellis Park they won by like nineteen and a quarter lengths. I think it was so there's a lot of potential there and he's one that I feel like every once in a while you hear about a derby prospect before they make their debut and then we kind of latch onto them I wanna say it was probably roadster roadster last year because Baffert said he could be his next justify American Farrow and obviously it didn't work out there but they'll Romans has talked up Dennis's moment since before he he ran a race. And so we're we're kind of going to the same thing here As far as a couple of other runners eight rings also out of the Breeder's cup juvenile. He's a really interesting. One didn't really run his race. You know the last time we saw him but I think the way he's going to be handled this season. You have to keep paying attention trained by Bob Baffert. He's he's GonNa run him in the rebel at Oaklawn. And then the Arkansas Derby potentially there as well and then another one that you know kind of on the fence about that you know. He's got a lot of towns. Is Max `field scratched from the Breeders Cup Juvenile. He had a little bit of an issue. There it turns out we found out a couple of weeks after that that he had had a minor surgery for a bone chip. But he's not even in serious training now. Well he's he's he's apparently galloping No works yet and so I think they'll have to do the to A. Ah kind of schedule where you hope to get race out of them and then you have a more serious race which I would expect to be something like the blue grass stakes if everything works out well and he's undeniable town. I'm and I think he's GonNa win a major race somewhere down the road. I don't know if it's going to be the Kentucky Derby and then the other one I feel like it's gotten all the conversation is independence hall at at Independence Hall now makes his move. Independence Hall is the leader getting away to lead by two prints of Pharaohs has moved up on the outside. It's Bourbon Bay Independence All L. linked and a half as they come for the quarto prints of Pharaohs on the outside Bourbon Bay. It is independence hall with the lead and now a furlong to the finish Jose Ortiz showing them the whip now goes to work on independence hall. WHO has a three likely? Just a sixteen to the finish at. It's the constitution called Independence Hall. Tailwind Jerome by four Knights won the national stakes by open links came back and won the jerome. It was a little more workmanlike. But he's going to go. Oh into the new year here as another one of the favorites and if I could talk about one more that has sort of attracted my attention a little bit. It's this ancient warrior horse. I don't know what his path is going to look like. He's Jerry Hall android or for trainee. And if you follow racing at all the last year or so. You'll know that. He's SORTA become embattled. Dan from the strike. Group's tracks out in California But I of all these horses that have won maiden races and we'll be going to the stakes. I want to watch that one closely. He's moved him over to Oakland Park. We should see him in an allowance. Race coming up at the beginning of February and then from then on he should be on the Derby trail else. That's one that that I definitely want to see more of well. You mentioned Bob Baffert. And it's tough to talk about the Kentucky Derby Trail Without Bob Baffert and he has a lot more than the one you mentioned. There's thousand words who ran a big race in the low sal futurity. I'm a Roger Federer Fan but you have to give it up for an doll who is also ambassador trainee. Who looked really really good? So I mean you know Bob Baffert certainly knows how to get horses to the Derby mean how many of these prospects aspects of pan out. I see a path for all of them. To be honest. You know and we also have mentioned authentic. It's still authentic coming to the three the eight ball. He's been in control throughout leads by a length and a half to uncaptured hero. It's all authentic as they pass the quarter pole and turned for home authentic and complete Khaliq Command turning it on. He's in front by sex with a furlong left to go. Zimba Warrior and Assault Coast as authentic is putting on a show. Here is a little green gene shifting about but long gone authentic strolls home in the sham. He'll win by about eight lakes green. It's Grafton stretch and just kept going there and another extremely impressive Horse Nidal I. I wonder about him a little bit. You know we've only seen him one time on Sunday and that six and a half for a long race he he looks like Dortmund Ortmann if you go back to two thousand fifteen big horse. That wasn't extremely fast out of the gate but once he got into stride he went straight to the pace and never really let up there. Yeah it's not not really the kind of horse you want to win the Derby but I think you could get to the Derby and then thousand words certainly has every reason to move forward his last race. I think they had probably a little bit the too much blinker on him and he ended up going head to head with that no door that ran in the Breeders Cup juvenile second. I think it's SORTA legitimize both of those horses that they ran so closely in the future. But I think thousand words is probably at least a couple of lengths better then a no door. He just probably didn't see him in the stretch until Flavian Kinda guided him out and it's like Oh with the blinker. The horse realized he had something to run against a win on. So I guess when you talk about horses that I'm looking at in the new year. Thousand Words is definitely on that shortlist list to Jonathan Listener of racing. Nation is with us here on the gate. We've talked a little bit about the Breeders Cup juvenile which was a topsy turvy race. You had three big horses that we've mentioned into all had their problems that day. We haven't talked about the horse. Who Wanted Storm the court for trainer Peter Martin and that would be a very popular win in the racing business? As you know what chance do you give storm the court to back up what he did in the juvenile. Oh probably not much not a lot of black type in the family. I'm not sure if there's any black type from Stanley I'd agree wise. And then you know he was obviously the beneficiary of other horses stumbles in that race You Know He. He goes gate to wire was not really pressed a whole lot and at the same time. I think they took the blinker. They put their blinkers on. I'm sorry and I have not a fan of lemon. That put blinkers was on a horse at that point in their career. I feel like you should be taken them off so that they can relax. Prepare to go a little bit longer. I think that race and the circumstances just all all came together for storm the court and allowed him to upset that race. It's forty five to one. Whatever he ended up that day I'm sort of in agreement? I think with everybody else that the the the better Derby Derby prospect was no door and second in that race going forward. I want to mention because these races have just happened. Enforceable label for Mark Cassie. Who is not missed? A beat after a son norm went out on his own. He had been his father's chief assistant and enforceable. Really good winning the Lecomte. But we haven't seen too many Lecompte winners. Go on to run well in the Kentucky Derby. Where do you put me as a tap it colt out of a dixie union in marriage? The breeding is good. I put him a really high on my list. As far as forces will be in the Derby but I would not put him on my list of forces that I think can win the Derby and I say that because of his running style you know if we go back to almost every year that the point system has been effect and obviously gets rid of those pure your sprinters. It's the horses that can put themselves near the front at the beginning of the race and keep that pace up and never be caught by closers that tend to win the Derby enforceable enforceable is one of those closers. It's inevitable that he's GONNA run into traffic problem you know. I almost hope he sneaks into the Derby and everybody overlooks. Because I feel like he's the kind of horse could come into the super factor. That's probably going to be a really common line of thought. Though I mean I'm thinking a few months out but the soup perfect You know in the era of a favorites winning the Derby is as remain because it's pretty high minimum of really profitable wager for people nonetheless so yeah for me. He's a super effective player. I I I think he's GonNa be okay as the distance is longer obviously is a full brother Mohammed and a half years day. There's a lot there in the pedigree just really impressive on paper and it was good to see him run as well as he did you know He. He broke his maiden at nine furlongs last summer at Saratoga and it looks like okay. Here's a real two year old and I you know he ran into you. Go into a little bit shorter and the breeder security at keeneland and Max field because two things came together and got him beat but he's definitely better horse than he showed that day and it was good to see him back it up the trump
