That's what they say. That's the emotional side of the story. They're asking for an at grade Parkway that would be less costly. Instead, according to the press release text continues to be disingenuous is what the executive director of the Barton Creek Association has to say. Angela Richter said the release that they continue to claim that the project is right sized community focused. And that they have listened to the community. And they say that this is counter to the experience of multiple community groups and local residents who felt that even the smallest request for change were denied and that their input was never considered. Well, it sounds like they did They move that they move that batch plant right? Yet now I gotta I gotta be honest with you. When When I see the scope of this this project, the text stop is doing I know it's gonna overall it is going to improve traffic flow at times. I can't I can't rather just leave it alone and do nothing compared to what they're doing. Yeah, I would. Even even though you admit That the project is not big enough for future development, which which is mind boggling because this thing is so incredibly massive. And to think that it's not big enough. So it's hard for me to get my head around. Yeah. So I listen my me wanting to just leave it the way it is. It's not. It's not a good idea. Of course I'm just I'm just saying you want your cake and eat it too. I just can't Imagine. "K l b J Welcome to the treehouse of love where you live. Call us with your opinion. 51283605 90 Now here are taught And don. The wait is over yesterday, the Texas Department of Transportation. They broke ground on the Oak Hill Parkway Project. It's $674 million project. It's well over 30 years in the making, and yesterday a long line of people showed up, according to CBS Austin Hand in hand for this project, and a lot of people are upset, though, that it's even happening in the first place, or at least the size of the project. 30. Years of talk is over. And today we start digging. That's what Jay Bruce Bug Junior had to say. Jay Bruce Bog Jr is the chairman of the Texas Transportation Commission. And what the name like that. He should be the chairperson of something, so he was born to do the job above Junior. Come on. That's that's a transportation. Bruce Bug, Junior. L Bruce bug, You know, Of course, you know Bruce Buck Jr. He played full back in high school. He did with a name like that. Yeah, well, here's what he says. He says. We are compelled to go ahead and fund this project when we started looking at all the Accidents and all of the deaths, fatalities, deaths and all the fatalities. Both both is what he said. He says this is almost as much about safety. Is it his congestion relief. The Oh kill project is nearly seven miles long on us to 90 and state Highway 71. It includes a complete reconstruction of the UAE. It'll kill two new flyovers. First responders think it will improve emergency response times and decrease the number of crashes in that area. And and there you go. It's uh, yeah, it's It's just a tremendously big project. Oh, kill fire Chief is Jeffrey winning, he says, minutes and seconds really do save lives. So traffic congestion not only slows our response it also places are firefighters and people in our community in a greater risk. Now some people don't like it. They think this project is too big. And yeah, how it'll feel like that. It'll look like that, like it's too big, but five years from now. People will be saying it's not big enough big enough. We didn't go big enough well, and that's that's part of the project. Part of the problem because they're probably not going big enough and then it's not going to have a very long lifespan. And you know relatively. I mean, they're looking at maybe 30 years down the road having to, you know, look at this whole thing again. The project also includes 15 miles of past for bicycles and pedestrians in that area, a lot of homes over there. The district engineer Tucker Ferguson, he's the Austin district engineer, says This will be adding additional lanes for traffic capacity, but also safety improvements. Sidewalks in the shared bicycle path. I'm glad to hear that normally, you know, I'm not, uh, that's never going to be a priority for me, but in this case I think it's really needed. Why? Well, why? Why a change of heart well, but bicycle lanes on this one, Because in this case, this is going to be so true. It's a good compromise because this is so so going to. It's going to be so transformative of that area unit using those mayor Adler adjectives transformative. It's my new thing, Man. Just roll with it. That word's gonna be thrown out going to be hard for you to roll with it, but transformative, transformative ahead. No, I'm just saying that that's a good thing to include two to because this is Is going to be so, uh, you normally speak out against any bike lane. That's what I said in the beginning. Yeah, Normally I wouldn't be what shuttering this a priority. And what changed your too, Because it's a good balance because this is going to be so much seem it. And show, so just just absolutely it's and some people are going to say it's going to ruin. Okay, Well, some people say it will because it's going to the whole look the whole field. The whole vibe is going to be gone. And what And what does the whole feeling vibe of? Oh, kill the whole field. Invite. Locals are pretty laid back place. It is now we have traffic headaches. I'm not saying I'm not for improving traffic. I'm just saying this at least will be an area. You know, There's no the vibe. It'll kill you. Sure, there is really five and Leander. They're a vibe. Well, we love everything. Every area has got to buy. We love freedom. We left freedom, You know, Kill to God. All right, I got you. So I'm just trying to figure out what what you're you support this project. You don't support the project. It's too big. Then you say it's not big enough. You don't like bike lanes, But now you do like bike lanes. Well, in this case, at least they'll have a place. Republicans still hang out. You're a complicated person. In some areas. I am well. Traffic volume in this area has increased by nearly 50% since the 19 nineties. The tremendous growth both in Travis and Hays County has fueled the need for this project and the I 35 Capital Express project, they say. And in fact, Ashby Johnson is the executive director for the capital Air, Much Politan planning organization. That's Campo. That's the regional planning group that says We have never seen this kind of money in this district before. I'm hoping that this is clearly a sign that we have turned a corner as a region and that we're going to continue to move forward and make much needed improvements in our transportation network. This is man. I mean, this is a long, long, long time in coming here so many false starts and to the point where Bunch of businesses were cleared out 20 years ago That, as it turns out, could have had 20 more years there. Why, who are enjoying a very good, uh, business there and they cleared him out. And then this all this space has just been there, but Uh, If you want to know more about an alternative plan that has been proposed, you can go to say bow kill dot org. Uh, And there's a They broke ground yesterday. Well, they broke around. I know, but but there's still some room for compromise. I think in this Like what? Well, they they're proposing a plan that's actually more business friendly. It's more neighborhood friendly. It's not as imposing its not as I'm going to use this word transformative of of the landscape and everything around it. It's kind of more in keeping with that with everything that's already a no kill, but but improving traffic, But no idea what you just said. Well, okay, you can learn more Goatsucker Ferguson, the Austin district engineer for text dot He says. What Many are celebrating the kick off of this five year project. Some neighbors are still concerned about where the temporary cement batch plant is going to be located right. They don't want to submit plant to close to homes and businesses now, Ferguson says. We still have a little bit of time to put those plans together. But one of the options that we're looking at is within the right of way. Yeah, There's $674 Million project set to be completed the year 2026 weather permitting, of course. Yeah, that that is a major concern, and one of the original concerns was it was going to be in the at the Pinnacle campus, which backs up to neighborhoods backs up to apartments. I mean, it would be a cement plant or cement right there in front of him, But unfortunately there are other alternatives aren't great either. So they got to find some compromise there. The thing is, you got to have it. You got to have this cement. Plant that's going to operate 24 7 to do this project. It's just a matter where are you going to have it? That's going to be tolerable to everybody because it's going to make a lot of noise, and it's going to be like pollution, sound pollution, dust pollution, you name it, So that's what happens, Man. It's what happens. You gotta break it for you eggs before you can make an omelet. No doubt about it bogged the guy from text dot He says the Wyatt Oh kill is not going to be a toll road. It's going to be built with taxpayer dollars and paid for right There You go. Uh, Steve is in San Marcus this morning, Steve. What's up? Steve, you're on the air color. Yeah. All right. That was a good.
