"Have is not the only option that they have. I mean, they've got every I mean people have options in this community. Dislike we do. He's got a point there. Most people still drive cars. And we should be taking care of those cars roads are expensive intersections are expensive. But all five of us used the roads most of the time. He's absolutely right. Even the people on that court. Well, not only do we use them. But that is that is what we want to use. That is our preference. That's always going to be our preference for the majority of a show because that's the that's the most convenient way right now. But listen going back to what he was talking about as far as we only generated a million bucks and cost eighteen million to keep that thing afloat. I know that that profit is not the main purpose here, but come on, man. I mean, you we can do better than that. Now, the judge and the Commissioner they went back and forth over this rail lines three hundred million dollar estimated price, tag, seventy one and two ninety at the white Oak Hill is more than five hundred million. One intersex, and that will not be revenue generating either. And it will be used by tens of thousands of people. That's the point. I don't think I think you could actually make a make a case that roads intersections. Yeah. They cost a lot of money to build, but they do generate revenue. That's how goods and services are transported. Yeah. That's how people get to your small business. Yes. I around not a train. Yes. The train does not stop at Kruger's jewelers on congress avenue. And that means if the groundhog sees a shadow that's five more years of Tom Brady and the NFL my God six oh six and you could jump in here. Five one two eight three six zero five ninety Sowa update you on a couple of roads stories that are going to affect everybody listening residents and activists who support or oppose that big Oak Hill Parkway project. They spoke before Austin city council, which is considering giving textile three point three million dollars for that project. A couch member nicely pull she voted against using the example of I thirty five's construction ourselves out of congestion doesn't work. Then why does building ourselves out of congestion working? Okay. All right. So she doesn't want to build any road. She wants the people of Oak Hill just to continue suffering what they're suffering day to day. Exactly. She wants a poor quality of life. But that's what the people of Oak Hill want because they put her in office nevertheless council approves spending the money on this oh kill Parkway project. And so did the state good. Now, there's another big project in the making the central Texas regional mobility authority. Ask permission from state transportation commission. Dad, tolling lanes to one eighty three north this is between mo- pack and six twenty right textile? Ben Asher says they would be also be adding some general use lanes free lines yesterday project costs are just over five hundred million dollars with the army's contribution of approximately three hundred ninety six million and tech stock contribution of approximately hundred and four million bottom line. It's a lot of money. And although the commission was hesitant to approve the toll road project Commissioner said enough support, but this plan came from local lawmakers city officials and groups dissuade them, well, there's no doubt about it. If you have to use one eighty three hundred daily basis in rush hour, something has to happen. Nobody likes toll road. Really unless you're profiting from it somehow, but you know, what I? You're actually going to have more free lanes. Once they add the two tolling lanes in each direction. So we don't have to complain about. This fact that there's going to be to toiling lanes in each direction on that section of one eighty Eighty-three because they're also adding an additional free laid on top of what you currently have their. Yes. So you have a choice you do have to take the toll at and it's very likely that this project will ease congestion on six twenty. Well, that's the thing. I mean, we we do see it. If let's say, you have a horrible wreck on thirty five which plugs things up in both directions. We see how that overflows into the other major roads around town. So yeah, I think ultimately it may maybe even six twenty might feel this too as well, which it's one eighty three. And that's that could be some good news. So, you know, I don't think there's going to be it ain't gonna hurt traffic. That is for sure it is six awaits and early this morning. A young man in his twenties on one of those rented electric scooters he damn near killed himself. It's morning. Yeah. Riding electric scooter the wrong way on the frontage road near I thirty five and six streets. He was hit by a car. Maybe we should rephrase that he hit a car going the wrong way. Every the scooter rider dad was wrong. In the wrong direction, one o'clock in the morning on a frontage road. It actually looks like a section the frontage road where there's an on ramp to I thirty five. Yeah. Yeah. The dumb dumb dumb thing to do. And maybe some alcohol involved, you know. Yeah. That's that's that's the thing. Okay. That's one thing. We gotta figure out here. We just threw that out there. We don't know that to be a fact, but but that is one thing we've got to think about it's Austin, Texas, a lot of booze downtown. That's what we're in. We're in Austin, Texas loves that. What do we do about that? If you have an intoxicated person on shooter sounds like it's taking care of itself. Well. Serious natural selection. You don't have to worry about it. Yeah. He's the one that made the choice. Everybody thought. I mean, are you surprised? I mean seriously. No, I've been waiting for this not hoping for it. But certainly I've been like, let's let's call them are temper when it comes to the scooters thing we did have a guy on a bicycle that was killed earlier this week by capital hit by capital metro button. And nobody's talking about Bannon bicycles. But everybody's talking about banning the scooters today. Yeah. While the scooters are new, and and and if you buy bikes have been around for hundreds of years writes, my point is people get killed on them time. You put people on bicycles or scooters are on their feet walking were cars belong. Yeah. The potential is there that somebody's going to get killed, no doubt. And if you make that choice more power to, you know, God bless your free world. And whoever this guy was it decided the wrong way at one AM head on into another vehicle while he was on a scooter. Well, you made a choice, my friend. You did I wish you the best. I hope your family's there with you and your recovery just fine. And I hope you survive gotta hope survive. "Now. Now, we're going to be live at five thirty. So you don't go anywhere. And we'll be on all the way till ten. Thanks for tuning in. You're listening to the best of Todd and dawn on NewsRadio. KLBJ Travis county Commissioner Roger Gerald daughter is with us. How how do we make that transition from tall? Do non told. Real simple. I mean, the Highway Commission decided that they were going to build this road. And they wanted to build a road with Don told capabilities, and that is one of the things that the Highway Commission has really in the last year somewhat change their mind on everything is going to be considered other than a toll road. And I think the two ninety seventy one at Oak Hill is being used as okay, we'll show you that we can do this thing we can do prop one approx seven dollars. You know that we're voter-approved dollars came our way have have helped. But I am delighted that's not a dull wrote. Yeah. Absolutely. Nobody likes that part of this is going to be actually suck. Like they've done on Ben wide, for example. Correct. I mean heading east and westbound onto ninety we'll be sucked through the why there. That's right. Coming coming from out of the William cannon and the two ninety area is for you start seeing it be somewhat lowered and that kept us from having to go. So high. On the flyover part of it. "The county gets a lot of press because he's speaking out. I found it interesting. That Taylor swift got a lot of press in speaking out, which is great. I think everybody should stand up for what they believe. But I don't think should blindly follow. Because now weekdays ten to eleven AM and two to three PM on NewsRadio KLBJ. By forty nine Todd Jeffries, long Madan prior. Hey, you in five one eight three six zero five ninety. So the Oak Hill Parkway projects was added to the capital area, metropolitan planning organizations twenty nineteen twenty twenty two transportation improvement program. It was a unanimous vote this decision places the twelve lane elevated highway at the congestion intersection of UNESCO to ninety and state highway seventy one on the fast track to begin construction over the next few years. It's also notice the wino- kill for everybody else. Now, the four hundred twenty six million dollar project has been under development and evaluation for a long time decades. It has undergone several environmental reviews, including the National Environmental Protection act process in his mid modified numerous times we've been talking about this for for decades. Yeah. Absolutely. And thanks to the SOS the save our springs organization, they've been really good at you know, hoops and hurdles and slowing this down and better. Well, finally, people are going to get some. Relief in that area. Originally it was planned as a toll project. The Parkway was brought back to life last year when the textile gave two hundred twenty four million dollars under this this condition, then go forward without tolls. Several individuals speaking during a public hearing this past Monday evening, criticized the board for not taking the removal of tolls as an opportunity to reconsider the projects full design. It still looks like a toll road, but there's not gonna be any toll. And apparently the way that looks really bothers the SOS. Well, I don't know what when you're going to have a project that this is that's that big. That's gonna look like every it's going to be pleasing to the eye, of course. But it certainly it'd be effective now. The most common concerns cited by the residence was the size and elevation of this twelve lane highway and the amount of excavated dirt necessary to bury portions of the project. Here's a quote from Vicky Harper, she was a concerned citizen. This project was called. A Parkway because that's what the community wanted. This project is giant three stories tall twelve lanes wide a behemoth that requires additional depression into the ground excavation enough to fill the great pyramid in Giza. That's what you said. It's gonna be it's gonna be not only massive. It's certainly gonna affect traffic flow in a in a very very good way. It's gonna affect, but I have a feeling there's gonna be a lot of pain until this thing is done when they start construction on this thing, it's going to be a mess out there. There's there's no getting around that got a break some eggs to make it exactly it's it's gonna be some pain before the game. But it's going to be worth it. I think it's going to completely transform that area. Not only in as far as having that out there in the way, it looks. But I think it's going to bring a lot more business out there. It's going to transform just about everything. I'm sure in the why business in the way of residential on and on and on Austin mayor Steve Adler, he says while the absence of tolls will make the project maintenance more difficult in the future. He thinks the project will be done in an environmentally sensitive way. And we'll set a precedent for construction practices in the future. Let's say the city of Austin will be contributing financially to the project and will also be seeking memorandum of understanding with the state transportation department to ensure that most environmentally sensitive construction practices are used to minimize the impact on the local aquifer recharge zone and Oak Hill area. Yeah. How about just just get some asphalt? So people get to work in school about that. That's pretty easy thing that took about twenty seconds. Very there you go didn't even need a meeting. I'm not even a transportation player. No, no, just a little common sense. Now, you you live out in that area. I do you got any concerns? My only concern again is just the the headaches that will will will be experiencing while it's being built. But that's that's just you can't get around that you're going to have it on both ends when you leave your house. You got that construction Goto? And then when you get to work, right? You got a bunch of construction to get it. Exactly, exactly. You're going to be miserable. Aren't you? Well, it's going to be. But I going to be worth it. I saw the artist's rendering of the design, and it all makes sense to me a buddy Holly. It's just going to be a different place out. There is.

"Camps are very difficult to evaluate players and the insead ablaze grand idea is to have four sites with two camps at each site of three hundred players eat so twenty four hundred players most of these guys ever played. I'm sure never played with each other before lack familiarity in college coaches are going to have to go into these environments and try to evaluate kids. I think it's an awful idea and every college coats, I've talked to has said, it's an awful idea actually talked to twenty five more than twenty five college coaches, and nobody was for this. The high school weekends is kind of mind boggling because one the high school coaches didn't want this to schools like I g academy Oak Hill academy. Paul the six these are schools with a number of all three of those have eight or more division one players on their teams. They're not even going to be allowed to participate. Paul the six because of the national federation. I am in oak kill because they don't have their teams assembled in the summer their kids. Go home for the summer. So there's just so many holes with this new revamped recruiting schedule, and you can check out my story over and twenty four seven sports where I went into a little more detailed, and and had some comments and stuff from high school coaches, but the reaction across the board has been pretty negative about the revamped recruiting schedule. And hopefully, it's something that looks at because the way things set up before we're pretty good. I'm not saying that there shouldn't or couldn't be some changes. And I'm good with changes. But it needs to be changed for the betterment not change for the sake of change in. And I think that's kind of what these changes were down for all involved isn't going to be a wind situation. So I wonder why the NC double A went through with this. But I guess when it comes to AA there's always questioned what they're doing. Why they're doing it to that? Right. I think part of it too is the commission Connolly's rice. I could be wrong. But I go to a lot of you and high school, Vince, I've never seen her at one. I don't know that she has that much of a feel on the recruiting schedule or or a knowledge base of a U basketball. I just think it's unfortunate because I don't think that that this can't ideas. Great one. I think twenty four hundred kids camps of three hundred each really going to be hard for college coaches to sift through in the high school weekends with a lot of kids not even being able to participate. It just doesn't add up. And hopefully that they'll revisit this that you'd probably too busy interviewing for the Browns. Head coach position. Probably probably got swept under the rug a little bit. That's probably why there's the issues, but if everyone out there wasn't caught up on college basketball to this point. Now, they are as I appreciate it. "Hi, donna. Call me, Donna good morning. Why are you calling? For that give away baby doesn't work like that. Man, creepy every time you call the show Donald silica need to take a shower. I don't know that we want to put anything remote control in your hand. Oh, I don't think. So I don't think so jettison central Austin. She has some comments on the hill. Flyovers Martin good morning. Native often I grew up in Oak Hill, and I'm just excited that anyone's paying attention to kill anymore because we've had the same HEB for the last. You know, what forty years we've been paying attention to the white oak kill every since the plans for a new Kasahda casino were on the table right there as you as you know, Don Pryor has transformed that HEB singlehandedly himself. Well, you know what I can. The point where the rezoning area they closed down three Matete moved in the nineties. Yeah. Art for our, you know, massive highway that was supposed to go through all of that got out, and they only got to William cannon. I think for picked up because there's that big wall with all the houses on the creek on the other side had a ton of business has move out there thinking, we gotta go. Gotta get out changes coming forty years later. All right. Sounds like a pro flowers are out there. Nobody has a problem. They just want the traffic to flow bay. There's desperation lizards checking it from MLK list. What what's what's going on today in your world? I'm about to.

"Tax dot has a plan to build some flyovers possibly at the Y in Oak Hill and getting a lot of pushback from people who live at work and play in that area. I get it. You live in that area. Do you like the idea of big flyovers to ease? Traffic congestion. I love the idea of easing traffic congestion. Like, you couldn't believe I hate the idea of big fly over now while most everyone at last night's capital area, metropolitan planning organization meeting agrees that something needs to be done opponents like this woman flyovers would be what would just make things worse project is just too big. Doesn't make sense. The fixed to ninety coalition is proposing adding more lanes, but not building flyovers because don't worry about runoff into Barton springs. I'm not sure how more lanes doesn't add more runoff. Barton springs. Don't understand either. I don't understand the environmental aspect or the potential threat there. What is different from regular road versus big flyovers? Now will vote Shaw on the final decision. This proposal next month. And basically the congested roads, the brake lights or something that driver see all the time onto ninety seventy one right there at the Y at Oak Hill, congested roads or have been a major problem that live in that area. And there's been talk. There's been a lot of talk about doing something over the past few decades. But nothing really ever gets done. I mean, there were just hordes of businesses that moved out of that area thanking that construction was coming and they needed to relocate or some closed down or whatever. Now, why do you not nothing happened? Why do you not support fly over? I don't support it because the transformation of the way that place looks and sounds and feels would be dramatic. There's no doubt that we we've had areas of town that that we have put big flyers that have transformed the area. But in this case, you've got a little bit of of a hill country there. It's kind of that area is kind of the a bit of a gateway to the hill country, and it is going to transport. It's not going to be the same experience. And it's going to be loud. It would be very very loud. Those those flyovers if they can just add more lanes without going up in big time support bottom line. What makes the road loud markers? Well, it's more cars. And I think or lanes means you still get the runoff in the Barton swings at the environmentalists concerned about more lanes, Maine's imminent domain taking people's property business property, some people will have to shutdown. I think the volume is gonna come from the fact that you're going to have cars and the goal is to have cars moving through that area. Constantly faster. So you are going to have more noise versus cars having to stop it. Stop lights that you are going to have more road noise. No doubt about it. So you just say add a lane in each direction on each side all of those roadways leading into one area. So whatever adding more lanes to seventy one to ninety and that whole area right there. If they can add more lanes means more cars into that y into that that that cross section of tonight. No clue about engineering. It might not be possible. It all I just the thought of what big flyovers out there in Oak Hill. I it just boggles my mind over everywhere, I understand, and I and I made that point there are, but I think this would be more transformative than any other areas. I can think about as far as the overall atmosphere this this bickering over over the finer details is the reason we haven't done anything in thirty years. Right. So so right ready. Nothing will be done if they do anything. It will be a construction mass. And it won't be exactly what transportation planners really wants. I mean, they're the experts, right? That's what I hear. Right. You would think. So. I mean, right. They all went to an out there. Right transportation expert paper that says stuff, right? That's that's what I'm assuming. So you'd like to see what a one lane in each direction on all of those roads. So I can't tell you exactly how many lanes they would need to make a difference. But they obviously need more. They need more asphalt. They're going to have to cover more area. Obviously they're going to have to cut into some some some areas to make that work. So if that to me is a better option than the flyovers might not be possible though. And I might just have to realize that is going to be a draft drastically different area. L the people are going to have to support a at least one idea for it to happen. Otherwise, nothing no five one eight three six zero five ninety. How about these four employees in palm coast, Florida? Home Depot, they've been fired trying to stop a man who was shoplifting. More than a thousand dollars worth of power tools. The three men followed him out the door the parking lot. A woman cashier shoe stood in the way of the man as he tried to leave George EPA Lido is one of the now former workers at that. Home Depot who followed a guy. Into the parking lot. The passenger.

"Project is too big. Doesn't make sense the fixed to ninety coalitions proposing adding more lanes, but not building the flyovers because they're worried about runoff into Barton springs. Now Campo we'll have their final votes on the tech stock proposal sometime next month. So there you go there saw some of the feedback. They got from folks last night. This is a area where I live, and I deal with the the Wyan Oak Hill almost daily because I'm going to HEB almost daily or going through there for some reason. And I can tell you that it does feel like it's getting worse every single day. What do you think would fix the traffic flow in that area? Well, let me say this. I do think that the overpasses the flyovers would be effective now, let's not based on any engineering knowledge whatsoever. But just maybe a little bit of common sense. However, are you concerned about the runoff into Barton springs? Well, not as much that is I am just the massive. Change to that area that it would be too. I mean Oak Hill used to be kind of out in the country. It was a bit rural. And it's not nearly as rural as it used to be. But this would this would so transform the look in the field and the sound and everything about that area. It would be so drastic. That's is that bad. Well, he make it sound bad drastic is a bad word. I'm trying to figure out what my you know. My perspective is just living out there and just wanting things to kind of stay the same. Although I want traffic to be better if they can figure out a way to do this without going up without going up. I would certainly vote for the I don't know if they will be able to do text dot officials say they are conducted environmental studies, and they're taking into account feedback from the public meetings in the past six years made while the groups are proposing a project that adds more lanes without building flyovers, they say, this would ease traffic without the environmental concerns. One quotes last night. It's both a more environmentally friendly way. But we believe also faster and cheaper. Because we believe it's easier to expand the roadway that is there now on the ground and turn into a freeway, then to turn the entire area into an elevated freeway, right? They expect to vote on this January the fourteenth whatever it's going to be. It's going to be a massive project that there's no doubt about it. There's going to be major disruption while they're doing this. But there is no doubt that it is needed. It's worse every single day. And it's it's got to be done. And they've been talking about this for years years years years, and they everybody can everybody is in agreement at that meeting last night that something needs to be done. They just can't decide what needs to be. Specifically, all of those ideas will ease traffic congestion. The question is do you want that y no kill to look completely different with massive flyovers much like they have at one eighty three and at mo- pack in that area or one eighty three and the six twenty area forty five. Yeah. Do you want that look for the Wyan? Okay. All right. I just I'm just I'm just past. Because none of these plans include a ca- shot casino..
