Bart Herbison and Doug Share Stories About Elvis
"And I share a my birthday in his death day. August 16th. August 16th, he died on my birthday. And I told the story the other day on one of the podcasts about my next door neighbor Beatty, who, again, lucky you loved Elvis and everything and she came running across all my birthday party. He's dead, he's dead. He's dead. We thought it was. I mean, I thought of her husband and died and it was Betty talking about Elvis and died. And so, you know, the sharing this. So the last part where they actually showed real video of him in those last concerts where he was bloated. He was there. I mean, some of those actually, those are memories are not memories for me. Those are actually, I saw those concerts. That's all. So it was really, really interesting to just see. Well, one last Elvis plug and a story. Peter go around a controversial author. And he was very controversial when he wrote to John Lennon book and the Elvis book too. There's two Elvis books, careless love, and last train of Memphis. There are over a thousand pages, and they're so thorough. It's like he was in the room, so he tells everything good, bad and different. And I particularly love a lot of the stories he told in the famous RCA studio B across the street from my headquarters. And here's one. I got the privilege of knowing Chad Atkins a little bit. One of my mentors, the late Joe Talbot, took me to launch at a place called I forget what it was mauds down on music grow. It's not there anymore. And chat was there. They had a standing launch every Friday they were in town. I couldn't make this up. He sit there playing his guitar at the table quietly. And I looked at Joe and he goes, that's why he's Chad and he plays everywhere. So Chad is the only major artist I've ever heard of that wanted a closing act. Chet went to bed at 8 o'clock if he could. 8 30, he was a country farmer, got up in the wee hours, three or 4 o'clock in the morning. And so Elvis is showing up late or wants to record at ten, 11, 12 may not show up, sits in their place gospel songs all night, and he can't stay awake at 2 o'clock in the morning. So he calls Elvis's team and RCA and goes, look, I like the kid. And at that time, Nashville did not embrace Elvis. They threw him off the grand Ole opry. They didn't know what he was. But Chet liked him and saw that he was about to change music, but he said, I don't care. 11 o'clock tonight, I don't remember if it was four or 5 songs we do them and we're out.

Could Gold Really Hit $3000, As One Analyst Insists?
"I thought I might get into a few economic and political predictions as we look forward to 2023, which is now actually here upon us. And I think there's a couple of big things that are out there glaring. Certainly on the international front, I would anticipate that things are going to become more and more problematic. I mean, you look at what China is doing there with Taiwan, Taiwan now saying, okay, everybody's going to be part of this mandatory military service. We have made efforts to get some of our semiconductor business out of Taiwan, which is important. You saw of course that Intel was relocating parts of its business to Ohio. This stuff has to be done if we want to protect our intellectual property because I would think that China will not as rash as Russia is still in tune towards a kind of crisis and you're seeing this play out as well with the Biden administration now saying it does not want people from China coming in for fear of mutations in the coronavirus. 250 million people are said to have gotten the latest version of this virus there in China. And so now because China recognizes the economic complications of having these rolling lockdowns, they're starting to ease some of that and that allowance would afford many of these people to be able to travel worldwide. And that, of course, is concerning for other countries. All of this is contributing to a more antagonistic kind of relationship with China. I would expect that this year, in 2023, that will grow increasingly more antagonistic for some of the reasons I just described. The situation with Russia will continue to be a real source of conflict Vis-à-vis Ukraine and Vis-à-vis our involvement, of course, over there. From an investing perspective, all of this of course bodes well for the price of gold, which is one of the reasons why you saw a note that got a fair amount of attention this past week, predicting gold at 3000. There was a commentator in Forbes that actually said he wouldn't be surprised to see it at $4000 an ounce in 2023. Anyway, let me go back to the analyst from a bank out of Denmark that is making this prediction Ole Hansen he's saying that given what we've seen on the inflation front and the inability of central banks around the world to effectively comment down, he thinks that that's going to actually have an effect on pushing gold further and further higher.

Kiffin plans to return; No. 20 Ole Miss falls to Bulldogs
"Mississippi state came from behind to win the 8 ball at 20th ranked Mississippi 24 22. All miss was leading 16 7 late in the first half when the bulldogs Will Rogers through the first of his two touchdown passes with 8 seconds left to cut the rebels lead to 1614. Roger's second TD past gave state a 24 16 lead midway through the fourth quarter. Is everything, you know, like you said, third shot, you know? Kind of got tired of losing these guys. Obviously they're really, really good football team. The bulldogs needed to stymie an old miss two point conversion tribe with just over a minute remaining to seal the win. Jason Jones Paid a Powerful Visit to the Grand Ole Opry
"Folks I'm talking to my friend, Jason Jones, who has, among other things, written for the stream, go to stream dot org and you can read his piece, his piece is there, there's a recent piece he wrote on Ukraine. You were just saying that we're both in Nashville right now. And you said yesterday, you went to the grand Ole opry with your kids. Beautiful. And what were you saying? So, you know, I'm there. I got good seats. It was just my son and I, he's been traveling with me and it's been intense week with our work. And so of course, my staff and my team, the suffering and the burden that they're bearing in Ukraine and Afghanistan was on my mind. And I was thinking about this article. I'm going to be writing in response to dugan. He's a heideggerian and thrill of death in war, which is not thrilling a 19 year old boy laying across Constantino wire with his lungs filled with poison gas and a hole in his lungs is not it's not beautiful. What's beautiful is children playing a father cutting the umbilical cord of his newborn child of fathers and son fishing together. And so there we were at the grand Ole opry and I just thought it was such this beautiful experience to be seen as artists, some 90 years old on stage with their children and this is what human life and human flourishing is about. And I look at the rhetoric of our politicians and they have forgotten what their job is and their job is to get between chaos and the citizens. And we need statesmen, we need stateswoman, we need advocates for the vulnerable. And so when we look to Ukraine, we have Jamaican and I have a new article out. You know, it's mordor versus Saddam. The west is sodom and Russia's mordor. And we need Putin and his armies to turn around and leave, but we need to push Soros and Klaus Schwab out of Ukraine. I was going to say, this is what's so horrifying is that when I think of the America of Ronald Reagan, it means to be a shining city on a hill. That cares about people all around the world. When I think of the America of whatever you want to call it, the deep state, the actors at Davos, these are people they don't have the same vision as Reagan did even as Trump did as when I think of the founders. They have a kind of anti American globalist vision

Rarely Do You See the Creation of a New Political Party
"Rarely do you get to see the creation of new political parties? And we talked yesterday about how Canada has decided to change its form of government from a liberal democracy to actually our democracy not a republic to an authoritarian dictatorship, there are many moments when political parties spring up one of the ones I think of, of course, is the creation of the Republican Party, which had a time place and location. We're not far from it right now, ripon Wisconsin is where the Republican Party was founded in a little schoolhouse right next to a church in downtown ripon. And it was started as an antislavery party. They had one issue. Antislavery. And that was basically post federalist anti federalist Whig Party all of a sudden you started to see this new party called the Republican Party, be created. And the Republican Party is called the GOP grand Ole party because it's been around longer than what we would know as the Democrat party. A new parties are created, it's new and it's exciting and usually here isn't a good takeaway, they're focused on one or two issues. Now I'm not saying that we're starting a party that will replace the Republican Party, but the Republican Party has basically become a rien no party anyway, Republican to name only. What does it mean? We use that term rhino a lot. But at a deeper we fundamental level, the Republican Party really is becoming the parents party, the party of normal working class, muscular, labor, people that have responsibility. It's the party of people that have things they are tasked to look after and they want to make sure those things do not get destroyed disintegrated or taken from them. The Republican Party is the party of preservation right now, the Democrat party is the party of confiscation and revolution. Everyone who's voting Republican right now or is interested in voting Republican, they have something they love. They have something they admire. They have something they're tasked morally to look after. Their children, their school, their community, their education, their business, and they're afraid of, let's say, influences, to come and take that from them.

"It is to win the ball, clear the ball. And play the ball. Particularly if you do it before playing them on. Now, sometimes you have to play the mine after because that's a consequence of what we call momentum. Now until a thousand years time before still playing this game, who knows what the hell did we do? Well, we won't be here. That's for sure. You'll still be having to start with something called momentum going and so I don't really see what the defender can do. If he goes through the back of the Achilles of the player and then plays the ball, I can totally understand that. But he raps his leg, it plays the ball fast, then the contact comes after and I think Louise must be watching. Are you sure you're watching that same replay in the future? You're watching some video game. Louis overall, what was the big difference that you saw from this part? From this Barcelona side to Ronald goom inside. Now I'm going to save mods about to create you know when you play the game and you know that one of the things that also defends needs to know is that when you lie in the box, do you know there is a big danger that you might thought to play? If you touch it, you have to understand it. Yeah, it does the ball, but at the end it also plays. So yeah, it could have been called or not, but at the end call of the AI is getting both. And talking about Barcelona's from Chavez. It's not the best situation. It was a good three points, but of course it was in the best game of Barcelona. We saw a few bright lights on the game, but I think there is a lot of work because there was a moment that we saw the old Barcelona with a lot of problems to keep the ball to give in a lot of space to the opponent. A lot of Justin, and even they could have lost the game with two chances that we saw the rose. So at the end, I'm sure that chavi is going to continue working. A lot of players there is still injured. They are important on this game. So we need to give him a little bit of time and hopefully the result is that. One of the reasons is that Spanish fashion you've got. I mean, I'm wearing a tie today. It was Spanish fashion, I might try it. He's got his Barcelona kit on underneath. What are you wearing? Italy style. Louis come see ya. I've been told. Yeah, yeah. Thank you very much, just a reminder. Laliga action continues on Monday, the last game.

"There is no avenue to go. If I knew avenue to go now, and have done something they didn't want to do and that is soccer, but why? Why did it not want a cycling? Because it wasn't going to the right direction, so that has to tell you that they have no care, really. But what direction is going on as long as it appears a few bells pierced a few dividends here and there? And the share price is good. And the sponsors are happy. That's probably where they are. They don't have any sense of winning the league at this moment in time. And we see the next man united odds, no one knows. It's completely up in the air at the moment. I want to pick up a point that Craig mate may need him. Michael Carrick, of course, surely it's just part of the problem. Isn't he in the fact that he was solved Charles right hand man, if you're in that locker room, what difference does it actually make of its character or if it's soul char in charge? Yeah, it doesn't make sense to me and also as you look at those managerial arts. Are they the odds to be the interim or to be the next man? What is it? But yeah, with courage. You know, this is, it seems like it's just filling up a gap now before the next person comes in and fills that gap again. But it's such an interesting thing because who would be interested in insert managers job? Because surely that means that if they come in and they're doing well and so on, they still know that the expiry time is going to be in the summer of next year. So you could in theory when a Premier League in theory when a Champions League and it serves no purpose. So I don't know, I think the united is just a case of bringing in a familiar face. It's already in the building to try and stabilize things a little bit. But that's Craig alluded to at the very start. You can blend the manager all you want, but the players are underperforming themselves, and it should be a sense of personal prior to be able to gather the situation that they're in now because tactics do matter to a certain extent or personal pride in the winning desire mentality goes a long long way, the special players who are being tasked with playing with clubs like Manchester United. So even though character, for those players, they know they have to do better. And now they've kind of lost their excuse, which was taken some pressure off them. And now all eyes are on them, I guess. Just to go before we go again, just want to switch briefly before we switch back. I don't want to go back and forth a little bit. The shots at the end of the game, where that. Why don't we call Fernandez, right? Don't know where he thinks maybe he's better than what he is. Great. This is right at the end when social went to salute the fans. This gesture of don't blame soul SkyMiles. What? What the hell is that? And the game's finished. The only way you can affect your manager is on the field. So that was just, again, sentiment to nonsense for the cameras from something that Bruno Fernandez, who was pretty much anonymous again, and when you demand in the last 12 months of anybody who's trying to tackle them, is that they are having a go at the fans saying no, it says, yeah, it sure is. Everybody's part of the problem. And I think that's kind of where this club are. I mean, if you go back to, I think the fossil meditation I may have been the first game I think it was was that the lead scheme when leads taken apart for the second year on the role at Old Trafford. And I said to you on here, look, this was a perfect game for united. Let's not get carried away. Paul Pogba all these assess, Abraham was great, but essentially this was a perfect storm for man united. And I think it just sort of gets people who, you know, some people who can't see a bigger picture super excited. But again, all this was just papering over crags. You know, and it's been, I don't know. I'm absolutely I'm bemused by the fact that one in August be given July to give him a new contract. And two inaugural normal lesson me, it was recently they either have given or been have been discussing new contracts with some of the other coaching stuff. It might feel like it's got one last time. This is mate feeling who don't even make believe wanted to be somewhere in the technical director's rule, not in the coach, and he doesn't even want to be in that job allegedly. And the others were the contracts are under negotiation. Are these people? What are they watching? What are these people that are making the decisions actually watching and thinking? It's astonishing. It really, really is. So it's almost the impossible question, isn't it? Considering that they have no idea. So why would you have any idea? That's how all this is going to play out with regards to who the next manager is going to be. We know it's going to be carried for who knows how long we know there's going to be an interim and then imagine there's going to be another one after that. I think probably watching this show to get an idea. They probably switched off earlier on. Yeah, well. You're right. I mean, they don't know. If they did know, they would be hiring a caretaker and then interim and then, you know, who knows what? It's a hostage to fortune by having a interim malign because it could be the same nightmare, social situation, it could come and do well. And then the bounced into giving the job again. Now, if you have an entry manager for me, you're just giving the player 6 months off because the players know that whoever comes in in 6 was time to be another boss. And somebody asked to impress if they need to press. So it's just a mess. Now, in terms of the next summer, if you talk about who united would ideally won. And this is we're talking about Ed Woodward here the chief executive is leaving, so who knows what the neck chased you for example? But Ed Woodward has had a long term admiration and kind of sense that Mauricio Pochettino is a good fit for the United players. You play in attractive way. He fits in with the modern structure of working within a technical director and leaving people to recruit players. So put to Tino is the guy at the top of the list. I've heard that poker channel is gettable, despite the fact he's at PSG with a decent contract. He's not massively happy at PSG. There's all sorts of nonsense off the pitch in terms of players party and a lack of discipline at all situations. And also, if you're the PSD manager, you know that your job security is pretty tenuous at the best of times. So pochettino for me is the ideal candidate. But I've also been told that Real Madrid quite like portraits in the one who knows how luck and she lost your last man city like him as well and we don't know how long that Guardiola lost its city. So if you're nice to do it, pochettino, they need to show some ambition and some desire answer the readiness to pay a compensation for you to get in. Because right now, they're in a good position to have a free reign because nobody else, no other top club has a managerial vacancy. They do, so they should be beating all their rivals to get the top manager out there, but let's be honest. Manuel is executives have no football experience. They're all former bankers that that's the profession they came from. The football stuff, basically on the first job. There's nobody united with any kind of experience or knowledge deep knowledge of the game and what they do. So I wouldn't back united to get who they want. This would be another maths. In 6 months time, we'll be talking about this. In June on July, what's going wrong? Why is that got him? Why the end of it with.

"Other again. Mark hooks and native manure will be with us in a moment, but Craig I feel drawn to you considering everything first and foremost, we have to get off not me particular, but we have to get off this sympathy train. That our managers and the lower leagues, some of them are normal. Fight truth and now to try and get on the lathe of management coaching and what their way up. It patterns. A pattern, and when they get sucked in mushroom do, they have to go to the league managers association, the LMA, who are very helpful, but they have to beg to try and get those last pennies. So we need to get off this sympathy train of all the goodness all scar is no longer the Manchester United manager. There's so many things to address here. First and foremost, let's address this statement and a couple of comments. One, it was not difficult, a difficult decision. It was an easy decision. It should never have been manager in Manchester United. And the first place was a difficult decision. Belden foundations of a club is not bringing any staff in having a staff that are not and probably shouldn't be there anyway or been a nice guy on making friends. There's not a foundation of a football club. So I really don't understand that sentiment. And the other say, now, people will say he's left about a squad. Manchester United gave him that squad. The club right or wrong and grier disagree gave him those extra players. They gave him that squad. He is not left that. That was what he had to work with. And he didn't work well enough weapon. Look, almost three years ago, we sat here, and I actually applauded the decision. As enter manager, oligarch, I thought it was a decent move. Happy chappy. Place was a law after Mourinho. He did an arm around the nice guy. Put an interim. When they gave him the job, we sat here most of us and said, this is insane. This is a massive club. It's a massive job. The CV doesn't stock up. Nothing stacks up. And we said at the time, disaster waiting to happen two and a half years later. Just over two and a half years later, he has no empty second full time contract that give him a new contract. Three months ago done. Three months ago, when it was clear, even after finishing second last year and a one legged horse race that fitness will not rate cracks were being papered over. And I can't get my head around. I don't know why he's done this. And I don't know why they've pushed it out there and man united as some sort of sentimental clap drop. He doesn't need to do this to make the funds appreciate what he did, but I also believe the funds understand he from day one has been out his depth. Now, he has had more leeway pretty much than any other manager manager in the top flight, right? He's had XT minutes. Masquerading as pundits have given them all sorts of angles of excuses. More so than anybody's ever had. And apart from the obvious reasons there's no other reason why. There's been no pattern they play. There's been no high pressure, but there's been nothing. It's all very well been much not. It's bad enough being absolutely better than humiliated by the cities and the liver pills of this world. But that was the lowest of the lows at walford. I mean, not just the result at the end. The fact that it could have been full of half time. The fact that Watford who have been in a stage of desperation have been pretty much battled off every ring of the boxing ring this season,.

"For the people who are in there, the minute that they look at immune. Away from Manchester, how high is his stock tools? That's a good question. Dan, because despite the good news that he had and of course he was very good for England a club level with city hasn't been the same really enough for 18 months where his numbers have dropped. Clearly, I think last season, again, apart from the Euros, one of his worst in terms of returning goals and assessed because he knows that he's not a starter at a city, so they're thinking, okay, if he's not a city, why would he be a starter with us? For example, and in order stop club, there's already a lot of competition for in his position. So it's going to be tricky. The only thing is when we get down to the summer and only one year left on his contract, his price will lower massively, but he wants he wants big money in wages. That's why he would want for his new dealer city. That's why we would want to leave city and go to any other top club in England on Europe. So again, that has to be discussed as well how much money are you ready to offer? I'm studying in terms of wages, plus commission for Isaiah and et cetera, et cetera it would be a tricky move for him if he wants to change Mark Wes his next club going to me. Is it tough question? So once again, because I don't see him going next, somewhere because the money involved. I think it's really difficult for him to find the club and facilities to sell him. So in 18 months time, when he's a free agent,.

"Was one option at the time didn't fancy him. The two guys did would take now if they were available, our Brenda Rodgers at Leicester and Mauricio appointed team at PSG, but neither are available. They both get a ball if you'd like to prepare to pay the money. But at this stage, they're not. So that leaves you down, and you know, I was told that two or three weeks of the united thought that the numbers in the stack are people a lot of money economy quite a lot more to spend on players, weren't really convinced that he would, you know, master illegally he's never played, doesn't know the league doesn't know the players very well. So done for me is a rank outsider for this job. But the rumors are there, because so Irish struggling, they got a tough game at Watford the weekend, and it's Chelsea way next week. If you keep losing, then they might have to turn to these because the other options aren't at the moment gettable. We had Frank on the show yesterday Joel so kind of said slightly something different when talking about Zidane the possibility of going to united. He's like, it's quite happy in Madrid. Life's pretty good at the moment. He doesn't really need that headache. He's still very much got eyes on the national team. Exactly, and that's why that's what we keep saying on the show as well. He knows that whenever there's some steps down, which more likely it would be after the World Cup in Qatar in just a year time. Or maybe after the Euros in 2024 in Germany, but sooner, rather than later, that job will be available and is sedans pretty much all agreed. We all know that he's the one coming next after Desean if he's not already in the job. So for him to go to united and signing a two and a half year deal or three and a half year deal doesn't make much sense if in a year time he has to step down from the united joke to grant the Franz job on top of that like Mark said the 5 England that he's never really been keen on as a player or as a manager with the language, which is a huge issue for him who based the law of his management on management and be able to have that kind of relationship with his players, mostly by being very close to his dressing room. If you don't see the language already there's a barrier between you and them you and your players. So despite we're not doing varan being at the club, as is I still think it's a very long shot for them to go zip down. Why don't you just go to Lester and give lots of money for Brendan Rogers, Martin? Well, I don't think it's that much money. Let's be honest, you know, 2.4 million for Donny van der beek, they never played. So I don't understand why clips are sober lots and suspend. But it's a serious point. I'm sorry, looks into to spend on a managed compensation when a player who could cost two, three times that doesn't have the same value. I understand that play by the resale value, but the manager at the coach is the most important person at the club. So I think united hope in naive that social will turn it around. But that, you know, what you see on the pictures that suggest it will be turned around and that the players have lost faith in socio that the tactics are bewildering at times because they're nonexistent. The fans have lost faith in solsha. So it's only a matter of time now before he actually goes. He can't limp on forever. And the next game is coming up at all, you know, Watford away. Chelsea white arsenal at home. I mean, it's really hard to see united when any of those games. I mean, what for the way many, but this is when you know how to do it so they might win at Watford and not win against Chelsea. So I do think they're going to have to make a decision pretty soon. Rogers, I'm told wouldn't be a first to go to man united, despite his Liverpool past, I think Potts scene will be keen as well, despite the fact that he's Tyler per PSG. But united have to make a move. They have to be bold. They have to say right, where the biggest club in the world so they keep telling us, prove it, you want to get somebody's manager. Maiden, when you step out of your mansion in Manchester, what are the people on the street saying about who they want? You know, it's a long wall to get to those streets, but I think overall. You know, it's like everybody's been saying that. You know, my sister acted as a club. They are the biggest in the world, but they seem to be behaving in a completely different manner. And the way that they are on the field. It's quite stagnant to be honest. Most of the people I know who are man united fans are so dejected because they have lost faith in the manager and the stars lose faith in the plays as well. What is the feeling there? And I think the fact that they're suggesting that maybe, you know, social I can have the whole season and so on. Is this what they're willing to accept? Is this position now, say being 9 points off top of the table? Going into the middle of November. Is that acceptable for man united? I don't think so. Yes, still here we are. We're looking seems to be changing. And that's the striking thing, isn't it? Like it or not, if you're a Real Madrid, if you're Chelsea, the sack songs are 5 or 6 times. Yeah, united seems to be keeping.

He saw today at Elgin. There was every opportunity to play hazard, and he did not until the very end. And he touched on it there, the fat, obviously, no Kareem Benz him up. We're talking about the maturing of venetia's junior. He hasn't got the French man there to hold his hand and he proved to be the man of the match. Yes, definitely. That's what you have to do in that kind of games where Kari mansel is not going to be there. So we have to do it. And we have seen beneath his junior trying that in the previous seasons. But he was not able to finish. He's doing it now. He's in a very sweet moment of confidence. And in question general victory from the one of the colleagues of laliga, I think it was a very pragmatic game. They were kind of tired. I think after only two days and a half of after Osama game. And that make the difference. We need to use being in that sharp moment of his career. I think Angela is quite lucky to have the young Brazilian in that moment because yes they are leading La Liga, but they are not a brilliant team. We saw that today against el chair. Finally, Gemma, how are you coping in Barcelona without me and Ali there? Well, it's tough. You know, it rained cats and dogs. Today you have seen the camera only thing I see it is. 37,000 37,000 spectators, they knew you weren't there. So it's kind of hard to miss her starting to be very cold. But Google survive. I'm not sure what that tells you whether it's for it's a bit of Premier League or how crazy the league is this year. People winning and losing. But to go back to space and basically the horrible, the awful. We talk about man united last week not have an assistant. I have no idea what Tottenham are trying to do. And I brought up hurricane and I'll see that that doesn't help how you can. Yeah. Now I'm just saying that I think that we're talking a lot about that prosciutto and I go back to that gold fantastic goal, but also the second goal of Kavanaugh is so well taken. I mean, a brilliant assistant Cristiano Ronaldo somehow inch perfect path to Cavani. And then you see when you have those kind of strikers that do is just from instinct. You know, swayed away that second before he will do his finish that it will tip the goalkeeper, loris comes out. He has to go down and he scores the goal. Yes, Tottenham made it easier for them today, but I also would say that we're done. I don't think they will play a lot with this system. They're playing first Atalanta. Now that's going to be a tough challenge before they play Manchester City. This was just a start of the week. But having said that this week, I mean, what a week has been for Manchester United and I guess there are some understatements who said is a relief for Ole rest of his staff today because his staff has been under a lot of criticism, but he was wise lost a game after the Liverpool game. He said, do the players play against you and today as well. It was not like the players played for him. It was just to make sure that there is no one playing against the manager because they had some proudness today also to keep in there. I was trying to get a segue into spurs Yan and you brought it back to Ollie loves. More can you say about Stevie? He used all the phrases of horrible you can have. So what can you say? They wear horrible. I will never ask for a manage to get the sack. But I can see, and I agree with Stevie, talking about the system. I couldn't see what Tottenham tried to do today. I saw came once, come back and place a song through. That was all I saw from some good movements.

No, not him in the eye afterwards. Not a chance. Right, I'm sure Jan might actually have something to say about that. Would he be up there? Yeah, it was interesting discussions to see how the hard guys talking about that. But for me the best defender I played against would this IE? He could do everything. In training for borrow, I play with the Italian festivals, you know okay? I was afraid of him in training because if you kind of met him in any exercise, you ended up injured. And then I asked him, when we played arsenal, I loved to play against bold or Steve bowl or Tony Adams, but Mars didn't, when he came on, it's still these days. "A volley or a half volley done. That was a half volley. Yep, yep. Explain why. There's a hot Holly. Well, as I showed in my Instagram, to the post I sent you a volleys when the ball is in the air, either coming out the sky and you take it first time or a volley is when the ball and you don't really have to measure any sort of height or anything, but I would say in and around a hip area that's a volley where a half volley when you take a quite close to the ground, that's a half Ollie. But I have to come in there, Dan, because I was the second best volley player in the world. After Mark Hughes in my prime. And when wadi what is today was an excellent example of how you see your technique because have a look at where he hits the ball. That is on the shin pads, but still, his technique and his balance and how he's working with his body makes it as a fantastic goal. And people have a no clue. They would say this is luck. No, this is great technique. Yeah, people. Can I just do what I'm to dance question or are we teed it up that it triggered a debate? It only took a debate and it Thomas household. "It has to his body. He's always doing the right thing. And was quite interesting afterwards, because I talked to Dorfman, you can get Alan for an interview, but I knew that you have to catch him before I get into the dressing room. So but what you meet him, you see that he is in his own world. He's in his own kind of tunnel. And when he went over, we started interview the crowd was still going ballistic and he kind of wasn't his own mind in his own mindset. And when you ask him, how do you do this? How do you do when a penalty is given in front of the yellow wall? 30,000, they're just shouting your name. And he just described the way that he goes into his own tunnel. He's just get the world outside away from him. He blocks everything out and his cohorts for fun, and you saw the stats. He got 70 goals in 68 games for Dortmund. He is 21 years of age, and he's getting better and better. It's frightening. Where is he more popular? Yeah, Norway or Dortmund. Well, I think that in Germany in general, there is a mania. What is all talking about him, the latest now is that Bayern Munich will go big for him. I've said that this week and I understand that they used to say that we would have thought that they will first buy a Munich wait till what level of dusk is doing. But I understand I understand it's opposite. They will go for a whole and try to get him and then see what Lewandowski will do. Do they have the money? Do they have enough challenge for team holding to go there? I doubt it, but they will be a serious contender if you're going to stay there. And I talked to Sebastian kale today, Boris said Dortmund desperate to keep him and they do everything to talk him into staying for another year in endorsements. Let's just remind you then what that win for Dortmund does the table. We put some top momentarily to clear of Bayern Munich against by Leverkusen. It's those two teams who face off on Sunday. By Leverkusen, of course, having a great season up to now Yan. And for the sake of the Bundesliga, it'd be quite something if they could take points off buying on Sunday. Well, the good thing about the result today is that you got them ahead of the both of them. Unlike your saying, then we can have a battle there. It's going to be so typical we're building this up to Bayern Munich, lose two games in a row. They're probably haven't done that since. Yeah, I can use my phrase for Elvis Presley again, but I won't use it, but I haven't done that for many many many years. And by a Munich is so typical that win three nil tomorrow. And that's a tough game. Having said that, I mean, this Leverkusen team said one who they took from Swiss football he won three championship in a row. He's turned him into a great team to watch. I will recommend this game. I think he's going to be very entertaining. You have a Florian talking about young talents in there. A fantastic football player that you can entertain you. He will score goals. You've got to see great balance in his game. And then he's playing as a Bayern Munich team that we do know with all their stars. This is going to be a great great game. "Less guarantees money united fans title within a couple of years. That's what he does. That's his remake. You've done that. Don't do one take, because the American owners and the management of Manchester United, they will look at their project and then they will see who is the best one to kind of manage that project. And that's what it seems perfect. So yeah, I know. And they won't go the whole way around because that is a new fungal. That is a new Marino. So I agree with what you're saying, but Dan asked me what I think should happen. I'm with you. I look at man united and I see the owners and I see the hierarchy. I don't think he's in any danger. But I think if money united really want to put down a marker and win the Premier League, I think they stand more chance of winning with Antonio Conte, then on the glossop. Here's the thing. I agree. I think Manchester United's board want to back oligarch. They don't want to be forced into making a decision. He takes so many boxes for them. The good side, the positive spin on this is that united are just three points behind city. Make what you like of that. The other side to that very same coin is united sit in 5th. There are three clubs Everton west spurs within three points and a game in hand on Manchester United. So baron gold difference, we could be talking about a Manchester United or being even sitting somewhere around 8th or 9th. Now is that the question that Manchester United's board wants answered? Is that what we'll force them to pull the trigger? Because as of right now, why are they keep seeing things through roads tented glasses? I think all you're going to saw is safe. To your point about Harry Maguire and about the manager, if Harry McGuire is injured, then you take him off. You don't play for 90 minutes, and then offer him up as a postgame excuse. That's why you're without bad. For me, just continues to show the feelings of oligarchy, which the board seemingly are happy to go with. Let's just put those fixtures up again because the problem that some showers got, we mentioned this before, is these upcoming matches right after the man city game. You've got no respite. There's one kind of exercise in particular that could be keeping you awake at night and so according to the experts at by ward engaging in more strenuous exercise in the ninety minutes before you plan on hitting the hey quote unquote this can make falling asleep so much more difficult and there's research like actual research to back that up now. And she's now that's not the case so we mentioned the rhyming and obviously the reimann still around But the grand ole opry move from the reimann in one thousand nine hundred. Seventy four right and two This this new venue the Grand ole opry house that it's still in today and it was a big deal when they move because they've been in the reimann for like thirty years. They started to hit like their peak of their popularity. Which has plateaued really high that time And they had their last show in march of nineteen seventy four. And i read this really great article from the new york times of all things From nineteen seventy four by suzanne freeman. It's called opera. Land is a dream to believe in. And it's about you know. The grand ole opry and what it meant to her growing up as a kid in pennsylvania and How she ended up going to this last show and what it was like But as they moved to the opera lane one of the reasons they moved was because of this amusement park it was a radio. Show that started out playing ho downs in the headquarters of an insurance building in nashville. Now had its own disney designed theme park built in nineteen seventy four and this huge forty four hundred person cushioned seat air conditioned venue To to basically celebrate the how far this this thing had come is pretty amazing Doubled almost doubled in size from the reimann And they took a little bit of the tradition with within. They cut out the six foot circle there at center stage with artists. Performs from the raymond's floorboards mood. It over to the grand old opry house Opened it big with richard nixon. Kind of like our fabulous fox theatre here in atlanta was actually being talked about being demolished In the seventies and the eighties and there were like the fox. A lot of fundraisers and a lot of people getting involved to save the reimann. And now it's you know one of the oldest and still one of the most premier venues which still host the grand ole opry from november to january every year. They hold it at the reimann. Okay it's pretty cool miscall operate around but it's still the grand old opry Every tuesday friday and saturday february through october. It's sold the grand old opry house and Yeah they don't miss those shows man. There was a flood. Cumberland river flooded in two thousand ten. Yeah and It really damage like they had to do a lot of repairs even had to pull out that center circle and that was really damaged and they restored that got it going again and kept that traditional life so one of the things about the amusement park that i was looking up is that it was closed in nineteen ninety-seven and i was reading an article about it where they're saying like it was just a bad decision that this thing was closed. Elliot's this amusement park was lucrative. Basically from the day it was opened to the day it was closed. It made money. It wasn't it wasn't underwater until that flood But it was replaced in ninety seven by a megamall and even in nineteen ninety-seven people new malls. Were starting to go away so that was a really bad move to begin with. And then i found that the person who ran the The company that owned the amusement park also at the same time decided that it would be best for their company to start. Cornering the market online christian music websites during the height of the dot com bubble just before it burst and This is the same person that decided to to shut down. oprey land usa and replace it with the mall so it's not not one of the great decisions of all time but i thought this was super interesting that it was fine. It just was taken away from everybody. Luckily they're still dollywood so don't panic. Yeah i mean dali partners smart. She started playing the grennell happy when she was ten years old. She saw the writing on the wall with oprey land and Said one and i start my own Amusement country music amusement park. And i don't know if that helped drive opry land out of business or i guess you said they were still doing okay but yeah no. It was good. I saw another. There was another article basically said the Opera land made more money than Dollywood its last month in existence. Wow young bad move How old. I was when i we took that trip. That was us going to oprey. Land the grand opera house doing that stuff. That was a quintessential Bryant family vacation in the nineteen seventies. That's awesome your was to see being with people the whole time hopefully see being with people. We probably camped. Because i know he didn't stay in a hotel because i've literally never stayed in a hotel with my family before. Wow yeah dude. I didn't stay in a hotel till i was except for like church trips till i was out of college. You're like tiny shampoo. It was weird like they give you the stuff. It's funny man. I love the chuck bryant saga. You know it's interesting and not too far from years. I think something about growing up in that time period that's We we have some common. Dna yeah i stayed in hotels though we tell well the industry we can't be campers and we were also Didn't have a ton of money in also cheap. I gotcha i gotcha. All the things combined to enter the camp ground. What else you got anything else on. Grand ole opry. I got nothing else. Just check out my w playlist our july first five. Pm central very nice and hopefully this Fattened up the wfan people that get you that backstage.

"Okay chuck so you. You mentioned how the institutions evolved over the years and you can't really be like the the ongoing voice or foundation or home of genre of music if the genre of music keeps evolving. And you don't write. But there's like kind of this tension for the grand ole opry as well because it is this institution it can't and shouldn't just go chasing. Every trend needs to kind of wait and see see if there. If you know some change that comes along is real change All while protecting like the musical roots of this very proud tradition of country western music. It's not a really enviable position. You know luckily they've had what seems to be a pretty good succession of members and management who've done fairly good job of overseeing that task But the being an institution it's also been kind of Ice burgan in its movements of like change especially when a major change comes along to music like when rock and roll came along. Yeah i mean you start out as folk music in hoedown music and bluegrass stuff and then honky-tonk stuff and eventually the electric guitar is going to make an appearance. And they had a decision to make because Drums and horns and electric guitars were all banned for many years and i think electric guitar even was allowed before drums and horns were allowed in all it takes is kind of one performer to break the mold for people to like it which is key and then for the management to say you know maybe we need to start letting drum sets in ear because it was at that slap bass is kind of what kept that because of time for that kind of music for many years in drums. Were just you know. There's not something. They wanted in their their tool of the devil. Yeah imagine when rock and roll comes in and people like elvis presley jerry lewis come around It's a big deal and they didn't want any part of it. I think elvis was invited to play one. Speedy certainly was never invited. for membership and then jerry lewis He got a little revenge in that he was not treated. He felt like he was sort of shunned by nashville in the country music establishment. Even though he sort of did some country western mostly kind of blazing rock and roll piano tunes and so when he finally played there I think in one thousand nine hundred seventy three they said are you can come and play. We're inviting you but don't play any rock and roll and he said okay. We'll just put me up on that stage. Got up on the stage and said let me tell you something about jerry. Lee lewis ladies and gentlemen. I'm a rock and roll and country and western rhythm-and-blues singing m. f. Yeah mother lover yes and they did not take kindly to that The only reason he wasn't band is because the audience loved it i think. Have you ever read the strange mysterious death of mrs jerry. Lee lewis from rolling stone in nineteen eighty-four. Now you should read it. It's very eye opening in like one of those. I think it was a disgrace. Land episode dead. I'm sure episodes on that. Yeah but it's like kind of jarring how you know if you're super super famous just the different kinds of treatment you get. Even you know in the in a murder investigation. You know yeah. I'm glad that's all changed. Yeah i know the seventies are crazy. But they the fact that they didn't kick jerry lewis out or allowed him to come back and play some more. I don't think he was ever He was never a member right now. He was just somebody to play okay but he was he was invited. Back again was because iraq that place that hard apparently but there have been other people who were kicked out for far less than that for what then what he did So there is kind of this this view from the outside of like. What's the decision making process here. In some of these cases summer just obvious other ones are like. I'm not sure about that one. Yeah there was Well these the birds weren't kicked out. But in the sixties with the hippie counterculture obviously that was going to be an issue with nashville because they had sort of no longhairs rule But they did invite the birds Because they were that kind of new brand of country. Rock in the crowd hated them So i don't think they came back but it wasn't like they were kicked out. They were more or less voted out by you. Know lack of popular demand. That was not a comfortable show. No i'm sure that didn't feel very good. But david crosby had plenty of drugs to save his known so Hank williams was very famously. Kicked out he was a member of the grand old opry News kicked out in nineteen fifty two. Just a few months before he died. he was kicked out because he kept missing. Shows t miss two shows in one weekend because he was off drunk And they were like you. You've just we can't have this any longer. I think we should do a whole episode on him someday. Yeah sure i mean anyone who kind of drinks himself to get to death. Before they're thirty is intriguing at the very least. Yeah very sad story. Yeah green and then johnny cash very he was kicked out of the The opera as well. He met his wife june car cash when they were performing both of them. Separately at the grand ole opry one night and he became a member for years until nineteen sixty five when he Went nuts and destroyed like some lighting equipment. Because as mike wasn't working during a rehearsal Which is a little diva ish. I think you could make the case those fueled and they said Bite your tongue. And they said That he He could not be a member of the opry anymore. And they kept him that way until I think the eighties when he was finally invited back as a member. They said okay. We think you've probably cooled down enough. Well he got sober. And i think saw the era of his ways and made a bunch of big changes for the better in his life. I suspect that it was when he Covered that nine inch nail sawing that the will opera was like this is the bomb. You can come back. It's a great great. He doesn't great covers on those albums. Very sad stuff I think in seventy three There was a woman named skier davis. Who had that really big hit the end of the world. Great song In she got a little political Earlier in the day she was at a shopping mall in saw some cops arresting some There was some church workers sort of witnessing and doing their thing. The shopping mall which i guess you weren't allowed to do so the cops Either arrested them or at least took them out of there and she got on stage that night and said this is something i really should share. didn't ask our manager of. I could say this. But they've arrested fifteen people just for telling people that jesus loves them and that really burden my heart She was a fourteen year member in lost her membership and was banned Reinstated a few years later but Actually was yeah one year later but this was I was like why would they do that. It seems like the grand opera would be way down with that message but the cops were not happy and the police complained and so they had to maintain that dim blue line. You know gotcha did back the blue backlit blue and that's what it is and then check in two thousand one. There was a really I take famous case when nico case was banned a. She wasn't a member of the opry though. I don't believe she was an invited.

"The granola tonight. In that cool i love it and listen to you go in with just the one name. Oh three bo. We're talking about here i watch. Tv show pretty frequently. So i'm on a first name basis with her. I'd never saw it was a good. It actually was good cute. Yeah she was a good good actress for non actor act. Sorry for she was a good actor for a non actor And she really. I think i really came to appreciate reba. I and tremors loved her in that and we can say that because we were bad actors for non actors. Exactly yes we know. We know what we're talking about. Who else these days randy. travis alison. Krauss alan jackson red paisley. I think keith urban darius rucker and blake shelton and most recently the most recent edition is lady a which used to be lady antebellum. That's right until the george floyd murder and ensuing protests. They're like we're gonna drop in a bow antebellum which hats off to them but they went to lady a Which they're probably like this. Coolest sounds good. But then the seattle blue singer lady. A who's been performing for thirty years is like I'm not really okay with this. But i'm not sure that they're changing their name again anytime soon. That's right After you are invited to perform Now that you get your name on the wall. And i think it was blake shelton who actually started the new tradition of hanging his own plaque on the wall because he was so excited apparently he grabbed the plaque and went did it himself during the ceremony. Which is Which is fairly adorable. I think i don't know much about that. Guy but excitable feller. Yeah he's married to Yeah that lady defining they hollow back girl by the way was that a is that one of their songs. Yeah that was one of her songs. Got be a nas something like that. I have rhythm well you sang cepa. That's all i wanted. So should we take another break time. Yeah let's take another break and we'll talk about just how this institution.

"All right. So you're you're throwing these downs in an insurance building. It's going well. People are showing up. Mayors are dropping like flies trying to fight this thing to be big city new york city in tennessee and so they said we gotta move so they said all right. First thing we'll do is we'll move into an actual auditorium space here in the same building that worked for a little while. Then in thirty four they moved to the hillsboro theatre community playhouse now called the belcourt theatre Started telling some ads making a little dough. We think two years later. they outgrew. That moved to the dixie tabernacle which was religious hall Sort of an old timey sort of revival house and they were there for a few years before they said you know what. I don't like this wild audience coming in here on the drink. And acting all crazy dancing in the aisle so get out of the dixie tabernacle and they moved to the war memorial art auditorium which is when they started selling tickets for a quarter apiece. In one thousand nine thirty nine and started i think they even got A spot on nbc. There in a movie thing started happening in a big way. Yeah it was a big deal in thirty nine when nbc started broadcasting them on the radio to a national audience. I mean first of all. It's it's now it's national and certainly legitimizes it but the fact that one of the big broadcasters at the time thought it was important enough show to to pick it up and you know send it out to everybody else. That's a that's a huge and this is you know less than twenty years after it's about fifteen years after the grand ole opry. I went on the air. Yeah that's pretty impressive stuff And then they moved on. I think nineteen forty three to the reimann theater which is one of the places that the grand ole opry is synonymous with right. Yeah and that's i'm dying to go to a show there i'll make it there at some point. Hopefully get that backstage tour from joseph but It was a legendary theater. It was there for thirty years. Twenty three hundred seats. It's the mother church of country music and Think they raise the price to eighty cents there We'll talk a little bit more. About how the reimann still figures in today. but it was That's when things really. I mean if you're an in a twenty three hundred seat you filling it up a few times a week. That's your your big time. At that point. I think they The regular cast would played carnegie hall in the forties went onto tour in europe. And they were starting to birth. Some real sort of superstars like roy aikoff yen minnie. Pearl came along in nineteen forty two. She's just as closely linked to that period of the The grand ole opry is. Roy is for sure I was reading about her. Did you know that whole thing was just a total put on as she was like a college educated woman from well to do family. Yeah it was. It was a character hook line and sinker. She was larry the cable guy. Yes exactly she was. She was larry the cable guy prior to larry the cable guy but i was like i know she was in a commercial that i loved when i was a kid as i think it was speaking span now looked it up and sure enough was it thank you internet. There's one thousand nine hundred eighty two speaking spanish show where she shows up and shows this this lady that she can get her linoleum floors back to looking. New with speaking span was great. Let's funny what hangs in the memory right. It really does that. And then my other association with minnie pearl is That developments on punk rock girl. They'll name their their daughter many pearl. Oh right that's the other the other minnie pearl thing so there's a couple of ways you can get on stage and play the grand ole opry. Most people are invited to play as a guest just on a random individual show and that's a great great honor. Then they have their. I mentioned the cast earlier. They have what's called members there of the cast their these regular Performers who are invited to become a member I think publicly. Once you're invited an existing member will ask you to join them. Live on the air during broadcast. Canada's the the big coming out party i guess And being a member is It's a really big deal like They take a lot of time to add members. They only add maybe a couple of year. There's there's i think sixty five current active members. I'm sorry sixty five total nine of which no longer perform or of officially retired okay. But they're still. They're still considered members of the consider. I think you kind of have to pass away to officially be taken off unless you run a foul which we'll talk about that as well i gotcha So yeah there's the there's the basically i mean to become a member of the grand. Ole opry is an enormous honour. Like it's a really big deal. There are people who Are just huge country superstars that are not members of the grand ole opry. They might be invited to come play a show or something like that. But they're not members of the grand ole opry if you're a member of the grand ole opry. Basically the impression i have is are considered the the The guard of country music is is one way to put it in a really confusing way. Yeah i mean there are a lot of things that go into it and they. I mean it sounds like it's you know they talk about you being successful and you being connected and you being committed. That's a big part of it and we'll get into that in a second but it sounds like there's not just sort of one set of criteria where like hey if you have so many number one hits or so much music sales it's like a bunch of stuff decided by people like subjectively and objectively right. I think also in some cases it's a it's a judgment that's passed on your style of country music like they might not like it at a time. Maybe think too poppy. Back in the day they might have thou- thought it sounded to rock and roll Like there's a there's a definite like like you said subjectivity to it as well as objectivity But if you if you do get that that That invitation You're expected to come play. Twelve shows a year Twelve saturday nights. I should say a year To maintain your Your membership And i think also you have to sell cookies in the in february to help raise funds as a true. I wouldn't surprise me man. it's the girl scouts. No it would not surprise me because they they do expect a lot of participation and not just on show nights. They expect you to go to a lot of shows. Yeah they expect you just kind of be there. a lot. I think in the fifties and sixties They were at. I mean from its inception up into the fifties and sixties. They required twenty six shows a year which is hot man. There's like half your weekend shows. Basic right yeah tour. Yeah if you want to go to. Or that's that's a significant amount of time that you have to dedicate and they've they finally knocked down to twelve which is still pretty significant. Especially if you don't live in nashville but It's much much more manageable than twenty six. You know yeah. They knocked it down to twenty in nineteen sixty four after they balked at twenty six and then nineteen sixty four. It took i think in two thousand they finally knocked it down to twelve. Oh really it took that long Yeah it took a while. Wow so over the years. The the the membership of the grand ole opry has been. You know there's a lot of people that that you would expect Who were members like everybody. From roy cuff as we said earlier and bill monroe the father of bluegrass Pet decline hank williams was for a while johnny cash Barbara mandrell reba. Ribas actually playing. What's the date today. you now. Is it the twenty second. Yes ribas slaying..

Don't you redo the first column all these radio lingers like ins and outs and the wraps and things like that because you've got to talk about the last song and then the next song and so he let me redo the i kind of set of those now and hopefully. I'm nervous about it because the station manager is going to be listening and they're promoting this too by the way this episode. What was his name. joseph teno. Joseph prepared be disappointed. He's guy i'm sure criticisms he's a stuff you should know listener movie crutcher to of course he's a nice guy he gets. So we're talking. Grand ole opry today And you said something that i find just fascinating that it is. I don't know if you said in the world. But it is the oldest longest running live radio broadcast program in the entire world is been broadcasting. The grand ole opry which is a radio show. A lot of people think it's it's a music venue in it is but really the music. Venue kinda grew out of the radio show. It all began as a radio show All the way back in one thousand nine hundred eighty five so it's coming pretty close to its hundred th anniversary and all that time. It's only missed one saturday night. Broadcast one live. Saturday night broadcast every other saturday night. All the way back to nineteen twenty. Five you tune. Into w nashville. Am six fifty and here. The grand ole opry radio program. Which is i mean. Hats off to that. I don't care if you think. Country western music is as bad as experimental smooth. Jazz doesn't matter. You still have to tip your hat tip that stetson We should tell them why they miss that. One broadcast it was after the assassination of martin luther king the city of nashville. I think most of tennessee probably was under curfew so they had to rerun a program and i think they did a live show the next day or later something during the day earlier that day before curfew i believe they tried to show so they still data show that they just missed the live broadcast that night but all the other ones dating back to nineteen twenty five. They made pretty neat. Yeah i actually went When i was a kid we went to. It was an amusement park called oprey land. Usa which is now. I think sort of a shopping center mall kind of thing But back then it was an amusement park like a country. Years pre dollywood. Oh you went to the opera land. Usa yeah oh wow okay. Yeah and so we also went to the grand ole opry house and i don't know if it was a saturday show and now they do shows on tuesdays fridays and saturdays but i don't remember much about it but i do remember being in that building in seeing the Sort of barn shaped motif sn age. And that's kind of all remember. I was probably no more than six or seven. I don't know what it is but there is nothing more cosy than a within a building. Yeah sure a little bar martinez golovkin. I definitely love the stage for the grand ole opry for sure all right so the grant will operate started out Out of indirectly out of chicago. There was something called the national barn dance which was a radio broadcast out of chicago. Playing country music Way back in the day and it had a really big following but it didn't reach nashville so the former A former dj from their named. George hey went to nashville. Became the station manager at wm and pitched what he called The barn dance. Yeah like national barn dance. But he's like here's the difference. We drop the national. Yeah it was kind of like a proto. Hee-haw yeah in that they had it was a variety show. They had music. They had dancers. They had comedy bits and sketches All with that sort.
