Attorney General Letitia James Takes on Trump

"Letitia james was a new york city public defender and a city council member before becoming new york. State's attorney general twenty nineteen. She's the first woman and the first black person elected to the office this year. Attorney general james filed a lawsuit aimed at dissolving. The nra successfully blocked immigration officials for making arrests in and around state courthouses and is leading a lawsuit against facebook for stifling competition. Her office is leading an investigation into president. Donald trump's finances which she intends to continue after he leaves office and even if he pardons himself that pardon would only protect him from federal prosecution. Welcome attorney general james. Thank you for having me. I really appreciate it so you are obviously a new york. State official not a federal officials. So how if at all do the recent events on capitol hill affect what you're doing is it. You know speeding things up or pressure or is it just the same as usual It's unfortunate that we all witnessed an attempted coup an attack on our democracy and the president and his associates who have Question the legitimacy of this election have blood on their hands. These wild conspiracy theories that led to these acts of terror in sedition. Los Angeles Rams, Green Bay Packers Preview: Goff To Start At Lambeau Field

"When i look at the rams i trust everything about the rams except the guy is going to have the ball in his hands. More time than anybody else. That jerry golf. He's a turnover. He's an accident waiting to happen and he's playing with a fractured thumb and the cold weather. And so i believe the packers defense although the not great i believe they can a few turtles out of him. Be a fumble or interceptions. Now aaron donald aaron says he feels great. Aaron donald play with a torn cartilage. Not me i had. That injury are in my ribs door to rip cartilage. Yup i tore my my real ended up when came loose my real extra protrudes a little bit now because there's not intact because the cartilage was torn. It was painful now. I don't know if anybody's ever had that skip. But sudden movements and aaron don lizzy sudden guy giving out a tooth gap and guy and even if he was. I mean just that third to feel that you don't realize how much you use your core until injure and then you realize the simple things brush not putting on your clothes brushing your hair. Imagine trying to play. Nfl football tried to move with three hundred pound man against wheel. Now you've got two hundred. Three hundred pounds man tried to move you against your will so it's going to be interesting to see not no. He's going to get the medication in there and and to calm it down in. So he's going to be very interesting. He might hip. Injury might not be as severe as my he might be able to tolerate more pain the not cooler. But that's not a very pleasant injury to play with in given that and everybody looking for the matchup everybody everybody would talk about. You know what they already talked about. Seventeen versus twenty. They will see jalen ramsey devante. Now i'm not sure how much jalen is going to travel now. I'm sure what jalen lineup was. I don't know if you've got to follow him in the slot. I don't know if he's probably left or right. But i've loved to see that. Because i know at some point in time. He's gonna have to come out on the side of with jason's zone and everybody wants to see that matchup.

Will Cancel Culture Come for Us All?

"You heard representative. Jim jordan of ohio. Say this week as the house debated whether to impeach the president many of these republicans are calling it cancel culture. This has been a controversial topic. But we're going to dive in quality assurance where we take a second look at a big tech story in the news. Last march futurist. Amy webb predicted that cancel culture and the backlash to it would become an even bigger deal in the year ahead said now that's proving true in more ways than she even expected in the aftermath of the attack on the capital. Eric trump Very publicly proclaimed that his family. You know we're being cancelled and it's interesting to see the push pull the tension between those seeking to cancel others. Those complaining that they themselves have been canceled. You know this is one of these situations where the technology enabling all of this is both megaphone and also the infrastructure and also the stop button so the question really is. Who's the ultimate arbiter. What are the rules. They're becoming less and less clear. How do we tease apart. The arguments about cancel culture that are kind of specious and the real behavior. That is behind it right. So here's the predicament. There's a sort of glomming on when you feel like you agree with somebody. The instruments of technology of made that really easy i mean. Let's think back a few months ago when everybody was posting a black square on their instagram accounts. Away of signaling. Their discontent corporations were doing that too. That has translated to real world. Cancellations i mean we have started to see corporate denials of service ranging from aws kicking parlor off to facebook and twitter and more recently youtube silencing. Donald trump's accounts and that for some has social consequences but for other that has real world business consequences. And we're in the situation where we are both inventing the rules and playing the game at the same time. is there confusion. Do you think because there are many people who say particularly. Let's say like on black twitter that there was never a mechanism to address problems. Before and that you know what came to be seen as cancel. Culture was really almost like collective bargaining happening on twitter. It was a whole bunch of people who could like you said express the same opinion and get a result when they never could have before well. The lifeblood of cancel culture is dopamine right. It's the hit that we get from. Feeling like we're a part of a movement and you can see that visualized in metrics. There are some easy fixes to this. We're not gonna fix our culture overnight. The actual problems that we are having we can totally address the mechanisms that are helping to fan the flames twitter could take away metrics so the general public no longer sees the number of times something has been re tweeted or liked maybe you as the original poster could see that but others cannot. That's one way to reduce that dopamine head to reduce the sensation that we are feeling the sense of urgency. 'cause urgency is also part of cancel culture and the same could happen on facebook. There are addressable problems here. you know. There's an argument to be made. That cancelling cancel culture gives rise to additional cancel culture right. it's it becomes as vicious cycle. I mean that's what we're seeing right now with eric trump and the remarks that he's making about cancel culture and and specifically with regard to his dad. You know. i think that's where some of the resentment comes in. I do think that around the time of the metoo movement what has come to be called cancel. Culture right was an exercise in power by people who traditionally have not had power and that that was part of the democratizing effective social media that a lot of people could say the same thing all at once about a misbehaving man or white supremacy and get a result. And that's the tricky. That's the tricky side of us right. Because arguably the net effect of that movement did real good in society and so cancelling the mechanisms that would have led to. That may not be the best for our longer terms but the flip side is that we wind up in the situation that we're in now and if you stop for a moment and think about the words. The semantics cancel culture is alliterative. It's easy to remember. It's an active verb and it itself is conceptually easy for people to understand whereas dachshund or something else may not be right. 'cause cancel culture was a more positive reframing in some ways of targeted harassment which i think we have to be honest about. That has been the mechanism of the far-right online. And you know it's like cancel. Culture was the leftist rebrand That's you know. I hadn't thought about that before but you're absolutely right and i think that that is some of the that is currently being made by those on the far right which is that they themselves now are being targeted and harassed and listen. I'm a target of some of that. Hate and as much as it pains me to say this. They do have a point. Cancel culture impacts them through targeted attacks the same way that they are targeting others. The solution to all of this would be for somebody to come out to the playground. Blow the whistle and tell us all to settle down. We're going to get detention by that. I mean leadership which we have had very little of over the past few years.

"Passes by there. Just done, Donald. You know people calling them and complaining rebates all this crap, so they're just gonna cancel them. And give you your cash back. I believe Disneyland says it is ending its annual pass program. The company says it is due to the uncertainty of the pandemic and the limitations around the reopening of the theme parks in California. In the next several days, they will begin to issue refunds to eligible pass holders. The company says. It is also currently developing new membership offerings for its biggest fans. Wow, so they're going to end it forever. Passes. They're gonna be over. Yeah, they're offering refunds to Yeah. Wow. Well, they're gonna do it for his long is this you know, who knows how long this drags on? Yeah, I hope they do it forever. Is one of the problems with, you know, going in. I love Disneyland. You know, there's no better place in the world to go. My daughter loves it. My wife loves it. It's the happiest place on her. Yeah, but man on Wait, what you call The happiest place on Earth. That's all I refer to it as that's cool. I should use that. But when you go there And there's 60,000 pass holders. You know, they're not enthusiastic about being there because they can. You know if it's busy, they'll come back tomorrow. There's a look of a pass holder. I That has like the stink on him, right? I mean, if you're gonna spend 130 bucks to be there for the day with your kids, your enthusiastic you're running around trying to get on all the rides, but these pass holders. Trump's second impeachment: Timeline of events by Julia Manchester

"Manchester Political reporter at the Hill. Thanks for joining us, Julia Thanks so much for having me. The House has impeached President Donald Trump for a second time. He is now the only president to be impeached twice the article of Impeachment was incitement of insurrection. Obviously we know what happened on January 6th when these pro Trump supporting mob stormed the capital, and everybody had to take cover. You know, it was just a crazy scene this past the house. 2 30 to toe 1 97 with 10 Republicans voting against the president. Julia tell us about, you know everything that led up to this moment. It's been a crazy seven days in Washington and really across the country. You know, it's interesting. You know, the insurrection of the capital happened seven days ago. And then seven days from now, a week from now, President elect Joe Biden will be sworn in as the 46, president of the United States. So what happening But in leading up to impeachment, obviously what sparked? This was the insurrection. We saw that President Trump Help that rally in Washington, D C, telling the attendees of his rally to go up to the capital to voice their displeasure with the election results, and many interpreted his remarks as incitement, and it would appear that he did in sight this group of rioters to go to the capital now, Obviously, there were thousands of people to attend President Trump's rally, which was to essentially protest the electoral college results. And then we saw that you know some of the People. Large number of them did stormed the capital when they stormed the capital. It was during the certification of the electoral college vote had senators Josh Holly and some there's had crews essentially proposing challenge the electoral college results in states like Pennsylvania. So we saw that there was essentially ally going around that there was this white Red voter fraud in the 2020 election. So during the certification process, the protestors stormed the capital, putting the lives of the vice president of the United States at risk of the speaker of the House of Thine eyes. Take that risk as well as lawmakers in the chamber at that moment, so we obviously know that five people were killed as a result of these riots, so it was a very deadly insurrection. Now we've heard obviously a lot of these. Writers have been charged. They have been apprehended by law enforcement. But today was President Trump's term in the spotlight, and he was impeached for the second time. It wasn't a surprise. We knew that Democrats would have the votes. But what's getting a lot of attention is the fact that Republicans voted to impeach him and including Congresswoman Liz Cheney, who is part of the GOP leadership in the House. Yeah, I mean, it's

Robin Givhan on the US Capitol Siege and Vogues Kamala Harris Cover

"To better understand the gravity of the political moment in washington. Dc and how evoke cover became a flashpoint amidst the us political crisis. I spoke to robin kvant. The pulitzer prize winning writer. Who is the senior critic at large writing about politics race and the arts for the washington post and whose own column on the topic was headlined. Vogue got to familiar too fast. I i asked her about the mood. In washington dc. Right now and how it feels. As an american seeing american democracy under threat i start with just A deep sigh. Because i think that for most people. There's just an element of just. There are no words to really express what we're witnessing and you know it's been for a for a significant part of the country. The last four years have been an exhausting emotional emotionally draining time and You know and then add in a pandemic and than to see this. It's just extraordinarily disheartening. And and shocking. And i would also just say i i think there's also an aspect of Sort of sad inevitability Would have seemed like this was predictable and yet we were incapable of south it. Yeah i agree. Everyone kind of you could see this coming with the rhetoric and that president trump has been Spewing out over the last four years using social media as a kind of bullhorn to broadcast this kind of you know hatred and divisive rhetoric. That's from our perspective. Over here in london and i know people other part in other parts of the world you know. We always look to america as his beacon of democracy and to see you know a country that we admire and look up to so much going through this. It's you know we find it. Refined it heartbreaking and really sad as well but you know that point around inevitability. I couldn't agree with you more Later today you know. it's wednesday were recording this It seems as though president trump will be impeached by the house of representatives. What do you think this will signify in this crisis that america's going through right now this political crisis. I think that's a really good question. I i'm not sure You know. I think we've gotten to a point what in at at which every time there's been a sense of okay this is you know the nature like it has to sort of shift at this point shift where the batter And we've kind of been proven wrong so You know an a president who has been. We'll have been impeached twice as a pretty extraordinary thing. But i think we have really clear evidence from last week that there's a certain percentage of the population who will be undeterred and he will be even more exercise and ultimately a it will it has has starting to cease to be about president trump and he has just bad. A you know the the key. That's unlocked this avalanche of darkness. Really because a lot of the the rhetoric that was being spewed out there at the capitol was related to trump fights. You know there were a list of grievances that people had that really had nothing to do with. He was in the white house I think it's bad you know. They've just sort of been given permission to express their grievances in this really violent way. But i do hope that You know i'm wrong and that The vote will will mean something and will mean something that will shift things for the better. I guess some people's perspective could be that this process that congress is going through over the next few days Will be the end of a very dark chapter in. Us history and we have a new administration Starting on january twentieth that seems poised to kind of address some of the critical issues that have surfaced during the current administration's tenure but others are worried. Maybe like you that. Actually this isn't the end of the chapter. It's just opening up and has highlighted that have seventy four million people voted for donald trump. There's at least a portion of those people represented by the groups that showed up at the capital last week. That have been kind of in a way activated by trump. And you know there's you know ten potentially tens of millions of these people depending on which you know opinion. Polls you believe what do you. What do you think of that. I get is the end of a particular chapter. What the next chapter will look like however I is is the question. And i don't think that You know on on january twenty at twelve a one pm you know the sun is magically going to come out and everything's going to be washed away. I think it's going. We're going to have a lot of really difficult difficult work to do. And i think there's going to be a lot of sort of weeding out of some of these pheno terrible elements in our culture and. I don't think that we can really do that until we sort of. Reckon with our history you know for so much of the the rhetoric that's coming from the people who were you know the mob that writing at the capital so much of it to my mind seems to be kind of rooted in american history Of that deals with race and gender issues And what exactly you know freedom and equality need that have never really that we really never really come to terms with and i don't think that we can really move forward productively until we do come to terms of died and you know a lot of people you know the first thing that They will say when people try to go and examine history on and understand what it means for. The president is bat either. Don't wanna go back there. They don't wanna revisit it. They don't want to have that conversation or they simply want to serve you at through these rose colored lenses and sort of glorify it And ignore the the worst

Trump faces Senate trial after historic second impeachment

"From NPR NEWS. I'm Laxmi saying President elect Joe Biden's first days in office will witness a historic second impeachment trial of by then former President Donald Trump. His fate will rest in the hands of a Senate that will be under Democratic control, though, is NPR's Susan Davis explains, the Democrats will still need enough Republican support to convict Outgoing Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell blocked a request from incoming majority leader Chuck Schumer to return to Washington early to start the trial. The Senate's out of session until January 19th and binds inauguration is the next day. Impeachment trials require senators to be in their seats and must meet six days a week until the trial concludes, making it difficult to approve any legislation or nomination while the trials ongoing If all 50 Democrats vote to convict they'd need a minimum of 17 Republicans to join them to get a conviction If Trump were convicted, which appears unlikely the Senate could then vote to bar him from ever holding public office

Louisiana Republican Congressman Steve Scalise was against impeaching Trump. It will only serve to further desert divide a nation that is calling out for healing 10. Republicans voted to impeach Trump, whom House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called a clear and present danger. Of the country. She'll send the article of impeachment to the Senate. But senators are unlikely to take up the issue before Joe Biden is sworn in next week, and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell says he's still undecided as to whether Will vote to impeach Trump.

President Trump Impeached a Second Time

"Made president trump the first. Us president impeached twice. Now the senate's turn once that trial begins. Perhaps after joe biden's inauguration january twentieth and aesthetic patera covered at the capitol today an s era. And it's gonna be really interesting to see what happens in the senate now today. We saw senate majority leader mitch. Mcconnell saying he hadn't made up his mind yet when it comes to impeachment sleep which was huge. That's the senate majority leader Saying he's considering possibly voting to convict president trump. It'll be interesting to see whether or other republican senators follow suit. There had been some reporting that mitch. Mcconnell was was looking at impeachment as a way to purge the party of trump because of president. Trump is convicted by the senate. You would not be able to run again in twenty twenty four and that's part of the reason. Impeachment was such an appealing option for democrats. I think what happened today. Though when we saw you know a vast majority of house. Republicans did not vote to impeach. The president there were ten. Did vote to impeach the president but a vast majority of them while condemning president trump condemning his rhetoric condemning his actions. These still didn't feel impeachment was warranted. So i'm really curious to see how senators look at this. Whether they have the same considerations we saw president trump putting out that video shortly after he was impeached. Putting out a pre recorded video during which he tried to condemn the violence at the capitol. It'll be interesting to see whether that's enough for republican senators. Abc's as kotehra with us. Who covered up the capital today. Our white house correspondent karen travers. Now karen go back to something Steve roberts said about we thought that maybe next week president trump would leave washington and hold a rally likely in florida that could be seen as the kickoff to a potential twenty four campaign. There is no talk of that happening anymore. Especially after what happened last wednesday and we don't know what the president is doing between now and when he leaves washington at some point around january twentieth. We don't know what he's gonna do in the weeks right after that but we do know that here. In washington there will be a legal team defending him in the senate impeachment trial. That is not what anybody was predicting Eight days ago simply stunning. Abc's karen travers. Our white house correspondent want to get a final thought from recliner political director rick. A Special Conversation with Congressman Ritchie Torres

"Representative ritchie. Torres is a freshman member of congress. From new york's fifteenth congressional district. He is proudly progressive and proudly pro israel and we had hoped to have him on to talk about how important it is to make that progressive case for israel the riot at the capitol changed our plans unfortunately and he joins us now to talk about what comes next representative torres so much for joining us and honor for me to be here. Last wednesday was extremely scary for all of us. But i can't even imagine what it would have been like to be in the capital for it and we're also not entirely out of the woods yet with possible. Threats still brewing. Think so let me start here and just ask this. How are you holding up. It has been the most draining and disorienting week of my life. If a year ago you had said that. I would become a member of congress during infectious disease outbreak and that i would witness of violent insurrection against the us capital during the electoral college. Vote count and that i would then impeach donald trump. Not only once but twice. I would have said that has the feel of movie. I'm still in a state of shock. And i'm in a state of shock that a sitting president would instigate a violent mob to storm the us capital in an attempt to overturn the results of a presidential election. You are among the members of congress calling for the house to impeach president trump again. Although i suppose this is your first time impeaching him and that's a process that looks set to move forward this week. People are also talking about a resolution censuring ham or demanding resigned or using the twenty fifth or the fourteenth amendment's to remove him from office. What would satisfy you hear. What kind of action do you think that this moment calls for will. The best outcome is removal. And we've presented the vice president would alternate him. Is you invoke the twenty fifth amendment or else. We have no choice but to move forward with impeachment. It is clear that the vice president refuses to invoke the twenty fifth amendment in conjunction with a majority of the cabinet so we have no choice but to impeach donald trump the violent mob. He unleashed on the. Us capital represents unprecedented assault on the separation of powers between the congress and the president. A represents an unprecedented assault on the peaceful transfer of power from one president to the next if striking at the core of our constitutional republic is not an impeachable offense. Then what is impeachment for no choice just moments before you and i connected. The new york times reported that senate majority leader mitch. Mcconnell is actually pleased with the impending impeachment. do you think with mcconnell. 's implicit blessing. There's actually a chance that the senate might remove president trump from office so there are three outcomes spouse majority is required for impeachment a senate super majority is required for conviction and then once impeach convicted a senate majority is required for disqualification so the ultimate goal is not simply removed donald trump from office but to disqualify him from ever pursuing federal office again because he has shown himself to be a lethal threat to the republic is clear and present danger to the constitutional republic and what about aside from president. Trump are their members of congress. Either with you in the house or in the senate who you think crossed the line in what took place last week. There were several enablers of donald trump in the united states congress and elsewhere who spent months inflaming the disaffected supporters of donald trump. One example is congressman. Mel brooks went to the march and instigated an armed angry mob to vote. Take names and kick ass. He should be held out. We as elected officials have to be mindful of the words believes. What does it mean to be held accountable in this instance though. What does that look like expulsion at the conduct of for me. The attempt to overturn the results of an election the attempt to instigate a violent mob to take over the us capitol if that is not grounds for expulsion. That i honestly don't know what it's these members of congress and donald trump inspired a violent mob that led to the murder of police office was bludgeoned to death by a fire. Extinguisher are their image. Is of a rioter in the senate chamber wearing tactical gear with plastic handcuffs. As though he were planning to take hostages right. I'm convinced that there were rioters. Who were intent on apprehending and assassinating members of congress. The majority leader the speaker and even the vice president is a video of rieter screaming. The vice president should be hanged a news and a gala were erected outside the capitol and the president was tweeting out against his own vice-president in real time while the capitol was under siege was pouring more gasoline on the fire above violence. He put not only congress at rescue. Put the life of his own vice president. Aris one of your fellow freshman members Also said something to the effect of when speaking to people who are concerned about the outcome of the election He said it's okay to threaten them a little right. It's okay to to threaten members of congress a little. This was madison cawthorn from north carolina in addition to representative brooks. Are there other people who you think you know. Their actions kind of rise to a certain level needs to be a conference investigation to determine which members of congress had a role in inciting insurrection. Against the us congress which is disqualifying which should disqualify you from holding office and it's worth pointing out that. There was a deep strain not only racism antisemitism among the elements of the violent bomb. If i recall correctly one or several of the writers had a shirt that read kim auschwitz. You had confederate flags who had symbols of racism and antisemitism white supremacy for aiding the violent mob. That attempted to take over the capital. It should be cause for concern and you know trumpism is going to have more staying power than trump. I worry that violent white nationalism. Violent antisemitism and racism is going to be a fact of life that will continue to haunt us. Now i think of politics as an alternative to violence. Politics is about the resolution of conflict by means other than violence and if there is a set of the population that loses confidence in politics that sees it as illegitimate and trump has convinced them. That it's illegitimate then. That segment is going to resort to violence. The d. legitimation politics is an open invitation to violence. And i think the jewish community in particular has the most state because history has taught us that paranoid. Conspiratorial politics is often a breeding ground fantasy sentences. I know if we have the most at stake or among the most at stake but certainly everything that we saw last week out of that riot was vile but certainly the racism. The anti semitism really terrible to our listeners. Who don't yet follow. Ajc dot global on instagram. I would encourage you to check out the instagram slider that our team put together detailing some of the anti semitism that the congressman talks

What Is Populism?

"For years now. Populists have been popping up all over the globe from india and europe to the philippines in south america and of course into the united states politicians with populist leanings. And those who have gone full-fledged populist in their quest for power have been making a lot of noise and a good deal of trouble think marine le pen in france. Victor bon in hungary rodriguez do taste in the philippines. Former venezuelan president who chavez india's prime minister narendra modi end yes by many people's definition donald trump and the united states. But what is a populist. What is populism answering. That is notoriously difficult. A part of the difficulty arises from the fact that populists can come from all parts of the political spectrum. there are leftist populists around the world who combine various forms of socialism with their populist message. There are those on the right who push anti immigration and anti lgbtq plus platforms in their populism populism in general refers to a to ordinary people as a political ideology or approach it involves emphasizing. The wants needs voices and good qualities of the common people and it usually does so by contrasting this idea of the good common people with the bad elite working against them. Best case scenario a populist leader would be honestly looking at the issues that ordinary people face and helping create solutions for them bus making the will of the people law and that is what populist leaders tend to promise unfortunately what tends to happen and what political scientists have observed in the aforementioned places is these populist leaders bending the definitions of both the common people and the elite in order to gain power with an democratic system and then undermining the very fabric of that democracy in order to stay in power de emphasizing some of the crucial parts of the democratic process such as the articulation of varied interests and the thoughtful mediation of those interests it can be incredibly effective for the leader and incredibly damaging for the democracy that they're distorting and anyone who lives within that democracy who isn't in the group that the leader has defined as the common people so worst case scenario populism redefines the common people as a group with narrow interests and then insists only there will matters a we spoke with political scientists on a malla busa a professor at stanford university and the director of the school's global populisms project which published a white paper in march of twenty twenty called global populisms and their challenges addresses the threats of populism and identifies several possible solutions. According to the paper populism is growing across the globe because of the failure of major political parties to address the thorny issue that ordinary people face. today's world immigration economic inequality and globalism. Just to name a few. This gives populist leaders a sort of foot in the door to claim that not only. The elite members of those political parties are bad but that the whole system is bad. Populist leaders climb to prominence by dividing society splitting it into two not just separate but opposing factions the people and and the elite a university of georgia political scientist by of cast mood explained it this way in an article for vice quote. The key distinction between the people and the elite is not based on class. Our power but on morality is always the pure against the corrupt but again the people is often an exclusive group a to quote the stanford paper populists redefine the people often by excluding vulnerable ethnic or religious minorities immigrants and marginalized economic groups. The result is majority rule without minority rights. Once in power populist leaders attack not only the rights of individuals who don't fit into the defined majority but the very foundations on which the country lies that includes the paper's authors wrote quote the takeover and taming of courts and oversight institutions and new laws that limit the freedom of the media and civil society. We've seen this in the united states with trump calling the press the enemy of the people criticizing judges resisting congressional oversight claiming that elections are rigged flouting laws and claiming that a deep state of bureaucratic actors is out to get him to deny the will of the people he represents. It happens with other populist leaders all over the world schmila busa explained the mindset saying the position is the of the people. Why would you listen to them. The media is the swamp. Why would you listen to them. Everything is fake everything is suspect and no one is to be trusted except the populace end that populous remember does not include voices of the populations minorities or anyone who disagrees. With the labeled majority. Leader's malibu said this is not about making poor people wealthy. This is not about punishing me lead in redistributing wealth. There's almost nothing in the populist program that actually makes every day people's lives better populists don't do that. They simply don't. It's not the people who have suffered the most who support populist parties. It's really sort of the people who fear dropping further down inside of prestige and economic status. Populist leaders often don't spring from the working class roots of what's thought of as being the people though considered trump is a self professed billionaire real estate investor. Brazilian president shire dinar is a longtime congressman and military leader. Francis lapenne is the daughter of a career right wing politician. The philippines to therapy spent decades as mayor and lawyer and india's muddy came from humble beginnings. But he's been in politics more than forty years.

"President trump's account as well youtube says it's accelerating its enforcement of voter fraud claims pulling down videos from trump. President trump got banned or restricted from almost every platform that most people use but pinterest page pinot board. You'd be looking for knowing insurrection pie recipes white chocolate white our pancakes. None of that read. It says it's taking action on reported violations of its content policies which prohibit the incitement of violence tiktok banning videos of trump's speeches from yesterday as well as hashtags such as storm the capitol for the last seventy two hours. We've just seen platform after platform. Come forward and take some sort of action affecting the president. In some cases his accounts are being removed. Communities associated with the president are being removed in a amazing wave. It's a historic moment. No doubt one that will be discussed for some time to come unsurprisingly. The second it happens on friday you have a lot of people from the right. The president's son saying twitter permanently banned my father from its platform. Think about that if they can ban the president of the united states. Who can't they ban. I mean i know the toll is on there. And he's said publicly. He wants to eliminate the state of israel. He nuke them if he could That's not banned regimes that take homosexuals and throw a month of building rooftops. They are not banned. The president is banned. But the chinese communist party which puts weavers and forced labor camps is still allowed to tweet. It's inconsistent right. Sure because content moderation is never going to be consistent. That's why it drives people insane. There are exceptions. There are special cases you know. Ultimately our democracy depends on a stable government that has free and fair elections that are respected by the winners and the losers and if the president is going to come in and mountain attack on his own government i argue he has lost any legitimate claim to power and if he planned to continue using his access to platforms including twitter to foment further violence. He is effectively making twitter complicit in all of that future violence and most of twitter's employees want no part of that now you could say accurately that there are other places in the world where violence is being fomented on twitter. Twitter is complicit in that and yes that is true but to use that as an excuse not to stop one of the most prominent cases of it from happening i think is nonsense Okay but what about all the other times. Donald trump has incited violence on twitter. Did twitter address all this stuff they let slide for four years or so. There was the when the looting starts. The shooting starts post. Yeah the president is referring to something that miami's police chief said. One thousand nine hundred sixty eight. When there were protests an rnc convention he said when the looting starts the shooting starts that was a threat back then a statement about getting tough back in nine hundred sixty eight and it has a vile threat tonight. There was the liberate michigan post from a later in two thousand twenty. That's right well. President trump appears to be stoking unrest and states around the us where conservative demonstrators are protesting against social distancing measures. The president is tweeting to supporters to liberate places like minnesota michigan and virginia. One day after he told the governor's they were calling the shots on reopening the country. Which eventually led to a plot to kidnap the governor of michigan. So yes at any point along the way. Twitter could've come along and they could have banned president trump and that would have been there right as a private corporation. But i think that there would have been a lot of justifiable concern about what that meant so no twitter did not do a blog post where they said look. This guy spent on our list for a long time. And we've just been waiting for an excuse to kick them off. They did not say that instead. They focused narrowly on what happened on january. Sixth and you know. I think that that was actually appropriate right. It's fascinating to me. How many people walk to skip over the fact that we had an attempted coup in this country and get really into like the you know. The platform specifics. Like it is okay to say this person incited a coup against the united states and therefore we're removing him from the platform and not site forty pages of previous badge tweets To justify it and the argument that twitter and facebook waited until the president lost re election until The democrats had finally secured the majority in the senate. And of course the house the argument that this was just finally politically expedient at the end of the day the man was the duly elected president of the united states. He had an entire media ecosystem around him. And even if you wanted to ban him on principle practically. I don't think it would have made that much of a difference because he would have moved to another platform. Some sort of bought would have scraped that platform and immediately reposted. Whatever he said directly to twitter and so this idea that we would have been able to escape trump on twitter while he was the president. I truly do believe is a fantasy. And so i actually think that it was precisely because he was leaving power and losing power. That made this decision more palatable because he could no longer fall back on the excuse that well i'm the leader of the free world and therefore i should maintain this direct line to my followers of by inciting an attack on his own government. I think he gave up any legitimate claim to power and all that being said any way you slice it on. Facebook and twitter are now banning president trump after benefiting from him for four years. Yes it is also indisputable that these platforms have benefited from being a a a a thriving. Hotbed of discussion about the president and his tweets. of course that has not been limited to facebook. Twitter trump has been a pretty hot topic everywhere for these past five plus years but twitter in particular i think really cemented itself as the heartbeat of the global news cycle precisely because trump did use it to dictate everything from a policy measurers to Cabinet members that he was firing and the list goes on. So there say i saw today. Twitter stock actually went down on the news that that they had banned trump You know the assumption being.

"Hi james ben. How are you not great. To be honest. i was gonna say happy new year. I personally have doing very well. This is a this. Is the story of the past forever. I personally doing quite well having a great day You know woke up at a good night's sleep got a lot of work done. This morning am feeling good about as far as energy speaking as far as writing this afternoon just the actual what. I'm going to write the the the circumstances of the world and we right. It is not great at feels like a recurring theme sitting from your perch in taiwan over the past twelve months. Let's not talk about that. No one wants to hear about that. Okay fair enough. So we are emergency podcasting. Although we're doom or one. I think we missed a in the context of it's weird because i think there's been a desire to at least on my part to avoid her probably in part because the reason you don't wanna be hyperbolic and your statements or overstate. Anything is because then when the time truly comes when it's appropriate but hyperbolic then. You've wasted it right. You've wasted sort of the impact. And i think that the idea though of saving hyperbole in saving sort of grants statements is for days like today like where bad things are happening. That are big problem. And i think that I'd love to talk to you. Not just about what's going on but also what i what i think i'm gonna write today and get your take on that yeah i i sympathize with a hyperbole. I actually me of of a conversation. We had previously when you alike bay specific around your words when talking about facebook and like make money selling us a data and it's like that lesson stuck with me and i think it's right because when it does come time to actually get specific and like you said get hyperbolic public hyperbolic hyperbolic knots. Anything you've got you've held it in reserve for when you need it. But yeah i'd love to have a conversation like that. Let's do it so for those listening. This podcast will probably come out on friday morning. Us time we are recording on wednesday night. Us time i am about to write What i'm going to post on thursday morning. Us time so you're going to read what i right before you listen to this but we are knocking before i write it. So this is sort of the timeline here and it was funny because you actually ping me and i was in the middle of a call. I was thinking. I need a pig. You it like just to just to talk this through. And i think the way we're referring to obviously what's happening in the us. Capitol where rioters mob stormed the us capital and were basically egged on by the president of the united states. Who was seeking to overturn th results of the election. That he lost. I wanna go back actually. To is interesting we talk about the this sort of language hyperbole and whatnot and i wanna go back to twenty sixteen because win this was in december of two thousand sixteen and donald trump had just been elected president news president elect and as president-elect do he was holding transition meetings naming cabinet members etc and sort of to our point. There is a lot of people that were you know for again for for reasons that can understand. We're we're flipping out about this and you do remember what there was going to be that big roundtable with like tech leaders and there was a lot a lot of talk in chatter that all these tech leaders should refuse to go to this meeting and i can definitely imagine folks who were arguing at the time that those tech leaders refused gotomeeting saying pointing to what happened today. And see. that's why you should refuse to that meeting at the time. Said they should. And i stand by that. I think i love to talk through that. I think it helps give context to where my head is today. I wanna see if that makes sense to you if it makes sense to you within. Hopefully it'll make sense to my readers. Our listeners yeah. I think that makes sense My initial reaction is it does make sense to me like i mean. This is almost been a recurring theme over the past four years in that. It's an imposition of people's one person has a point of view. And they want to impose that on the world and and they want to impose it on social media companies and twitter or facebook. They should just be censoring the president. And and your point has bain hang on. This guy got elected president and especially back at the start. Two thousand sixteen. This guy's got elected president. Now it's one thing to introduce a cost or to react to something he did. That's undemocratic but at that point just outright refusing to do it doesn't strike me as as a reasonable thing to do in a democracy. That's exactly right. There's a there's a phrase that i use that is widely used this original to me but is this idea that elections have consequences and the reality is is that trump won in two thousand sixteen. He didn't and given that he won for a private tech company. Leader to sort of unilaterally. Say no. i'm not gonna go meet with the president of the united states. Who according to the law and according to the rules won the election of the country that has all the rules and the the groundwork and the foundation that makes my entire business possible and makes it possible for me to ruins a providence. To me is a big problem. It is a wrong way to think about the issue.

Just tougher it is. I mean kids are so clever. Kids are so clever. Let them in the sponges between the age between certain five there so spiritually aware and they soak in so many things. And that's why you've got to be really careful about what you do in front of them and yeah you say are you know. Are we teach. Them is so so important with children. Between the ages of all age between the age they do not forget. The thing. And i think past five. That's where the start losing a bit of that you know Sponge making me believe that you're kind of forming the character pov the cornerstone of the years between two and five years old a very pointers. And you got to be super kaffa. What you do in front of them and like you say the way you teach them and you out in from and you know whether your you know your argument. You'll miss are your girlfriend and you you. You've got to be very careful way you do it. And then we say things to them. Yeah 'cause you're tampa afraid you're tired but you've got to keep that stuff in house and the white for them but you know being at that of foreign dougie being the youngest one and touch on what you just said there up until five. You're aware a spouse the light at the end of the tunnel. You know that fis is gonna pass you know. He's going to develop as a boy and he's gonna wanna get into bed less at those kind of things so it's a kind of about us much of better. Weathering the storm in respect is at times it is but you know you. Parents say oh. It's not over to lately. No leave the house you know teenage years. Well the the really weird thing that's happening move me is. I'm a full by three right. Basically i've got four children with three different partners. Okay now how did that before. But i full buckeye. Well i oversee my last two Within the marriage which is amazing on. This is a learning curve for me. This is i. I'm living with two little boys so young whereas with my daughter twenty one year old grace hours river part now is river up until she was three years old. Same of lola. I was with it till she was three years old. So i've never had this experience of living under the same roof with the same partner with the same children. U. nakai on un unsought advice living in every day every night. And it's been a real kick in the you know. Yeah the thing image aches. That's probably what you need just to stop being so productive for children going to going off the operation yeah car. He's been a massive learning curve. And it's been amazing as much as it's being you know what's the word for it challenging very challenging. Yeah it's been amazing as well but On a problem is the. I've got goods so far. Oviously wanna go all the way. You will have a strong marriage and well. That's the cornerstone over the unless you talk about from your experiences with your parents or may not so important that you both for each other and you both strong foreign another. I mean you mentioned with grace being three and then lola. Being three in an we're talking about a dokki is at threes. Maybe it's just weathering the storm three years of age. Maybe you just need to get through that s an as much as people think manner strong the not necessarily that strong. I hold a lot of gil. I elder hell of guilt for leaving my ex partners. An leaving my child for them to look after obviously they have not been one of these five of us said right of got new partner. Now go and anything to do this. I don't want anything to do that. Child i've always been there. I've always felt so guilty by. I've always been there for them up in their especially my daughter because my second partner lived in germany. I used to go back and forward to see lola. Every two weeks and stay there for three nights and in the beginning. When i didn't have an apartment or standard and rotel for three nights at my daughter to the hotel to stay there within. It was just kinda wasn't right now but he was right for me the fact that i could go over there and luckily i had the money to be able to pay for flights every two weeks and over there and be with a. I'm whatever was happening with the band. Would you always try and fact. That ain't obviously there have been periods. Where you guys have been so busy and so prolific that you always in that time to go go to germany and spent some time via dolorosa. Main people carry guilt around for so many different reasons. I suppose at least when we talk now and you'll you'll looking back in your flexible. Not mothers and stuff aside at least you know that made the effort we can. You can look at all four of your kids square in the eyes and you and you will know that as a parent and i think. I think that's really important. And i will say that perception that men are strong is just. It's so it's kind of outdated so dangerous thing to men and women everybody because everyone's so vulnerable. Everybody's i'm so scared and on shore and when it comes to become an at that particular you know twenty years ago or whatever anytime in your life. It's a new experience and it blows everybody away in those amazing bits and there's downright scary bits where everyone feels vulnerable one of the reasons with that podium watson so nice having you on how well not just for this reason race refreshing to hear somebody talk about becoming at that saudi later in life that he's the e commerce the norm on how you would advise people become embarrassing fifty s. You know because it's it's a real. It's as more of a struggle when you're younger person. Uh yeah. I think there's a lot more of happening now. Believe there's a lot more of older fathers. The are finding new partners. And you know. I've in children starring again and again basically and for me personally like i said it's been a struggle on of You know obviously been weaken. The past may be skipping talking about men being supposedly being strong. I think he's saying when he comes. Sue mental health as well. I think people hundred percent the to linked. Yeah i think there's a law men out there so for him. We mental health but because men a men. That don't really want to talk about it. There's a lot of people suffering beyond close those. Don't talk about it. And that's kind of what i've done. You know when when. I've suffered enough spin struggling with children. You know you friend. We'll talk to you about it and you saw a hide a little bit especially one of my best friends. Your lives of nozzle. It does not have children. So i always believed that. I'm not really telling him the full truth of it because he doesn't have children's because you'll never stunned beer. So there's a lot of stuff hidden away I think he's a hard job in the world being dot. If your hands on the is i feel sorry for fathers after. Leave home in the car six. Am and you don't get home till after to with our enough of traffic coming into london and dogo off seven and i only see the kids the weekend. Yeah facial tom. Just.

And so dave berry's that part was born. Now av sinus is nearly two. So i've got a new set of challenges as a father. And that's why i need a whole new range of guests to give me some advice and some guidance and this time out i'm joined by singer dancer songwriter. A talent show judge a storyteller and a member of the. Uk's biggest ever boy band take that he's also a father too. Grace is twenty one. Lola who's fifteen bowie. Four and dougie three. Hello howard a good man. Lovely having you own gray visegrad on now one of the reasons. I was so pleased when you coming on his that. We have to say the p. word which is pandemic of course That's the we now live in but over that period so many famous faces. They just things that as the whole process for everybody. There were pay lessons at home and cooking tips and musicians given qatar lessons. One of my favorite things howard. Was you sitting down on social media and reading children's stories. Yeah so tell me when you thought of that. And why have you been doing it. I just thought of it. Really free boredom really. I just thought well well. It's the people who felt most sorry out of all this pa- lava that's going on at the moment. Our children on thought. Well give some into them. I'm ready when i was reading these books. It didn't really saw a the age range on your box. Our reading but a new was from anything between three and six three and seven. Nothing teenage about. Wichita bodrov give it to the children that aligned down whether unless around round the room crazy lying down which you in the moment dad on a a on on a sexy on give it to them you know so they could enjoy themselves and maybe listen to it. But i've heard from the tweets about buchan instagram's of his on the the parents are to enjoy the more. Well how. I'm not surprised it's very. It's very calming is very reassuring. You nice manner about you anyway. The tom of non u. I mean there was one. And i thought that what you reading. But you've got your little dog with you kind of come in your head. A little bit. Everyone visually snuggling in and every step of the why was being very vain actually jogging more followers by gavin. That dog you know no one of those toxic a smart move but yeah it's It was very relaxing. It was obviously prerecorded thought if do live. I'm not the best reader in the world of probably as adults in my adulthood. I've probably read about six books row. obviously read a lot more school so i'm not the best of readers and if you'll notice i wanna read in You know i'll make a few mistakes. Which is which is very human human side. If you think's pretty nice so. I think i might be. I used to hide. You know given what i do now for a living biased a height ban on having to stand up in close and read aloud. I was sung vison when you do. Fumble waste nice to see if someone is and they carry on an issue. Yeah very true. Yeah on did mcafee mistakes. But i actually enjoyed it but then it got to the point where i thought rights. Now i'm gonna get low everest. I'm going to give it a break. I'm going to do dollar wayne story. Republican do about four christmas stories on the lead up to christmas. Our and maybe start again next year. So regardless of lockdown have a howard donald christmas. That's gone on three. i love it. There was some absolute classics. I mean i know you said that there was a rough kind of age group that you were looking at but the gruff lows in there where the wild things are which one would use should be reading to av. Which wants the nice when we get to snuggle down on the sofa was they won. That left. how as a favor of yours finished reading it A thin this one cold Which is probably the last one. Did i think he was Superstar may think something like superstar me is basically saying that regardless of what color you are regardless of way form regardless of our old. You are whether you go to sports wherever you go to this movie. That is always something within you that superstar you know dole anybody tell you any different. These always something within somebody. That's a superstar. So that's a great one for you. I think he saw is a generalization to any child man again a lovely message to be putting across the people and a lot of the times. Obviously there is. I was struggling for books. It's like two two days all the day before. Thinking are no. We're gonna read going through all these books. Some of grace's old books an adventure. They come to one earth. Read that one these probably a couple two or three that i answer for the rest of them were premature ones of up in reading my children all the time. Well that's lovely makes it even more special. You must have to wear different. Parental hats for each of your children given grace's age load as age by we undock age..

I I cannot believe that yeah. I do believe that I do believe that. It's fine to have your beliefs and to believe in what you believe in but I'd I don't necessarily you know. I think there has to be truth and all of it obviously because somebody wrote about it and so somebody experienced something there. Yeah Casey groped without did you did. You've done it so many times now that we've confused yourself. I don't think it's that just TAP I. I think it's well that happened there. You started adding adjust and then chastise me for not getting it right so let's agree on well that happened and that happened. Okay okay with a well or so show. I don't know whatever whatever happened. It happened. He is incredibly confident using it. That was my big from Houston incredibly confident human being yeah. I've always noxious the difference so I I I know maybe that's why it has to describe him that way. Because the it's usually to say somebody's confident usually suggests that there cockiness it's ah very often difficult to separate confidence from cockiness but he does not seem cocky at all but extremely confident and a lot of the stories he told were like then. I walked up to this girl all natural and this girl and this guy and every time he said that I was like I don't think I've ever done that. Once in my life just walked up to someone and you're like hey my name's Christian. Oh I know you drink. I've never done that. I know people who do that. Are I admire them so much to me too and those that do it in way that isn't like creepy and aggressive and weird but just that act of walk lot Salami and and hey and introducing yourself I wouldn't. I didn't know how to do it as as Donald say like spitting game you know I don't know if you would say the spitting game. I shouldn't put that in his mouth I don't know if he you would say but he is capable. It reminds me actually of that. I my introduction to Donald which many of yours was shot in clueless when he just walks up and she's like Stacey Stacey Dash says Oh there's my boyfriend and and he just comes right in and it's like he exudes this conference. I mean he's leaning. It's more cockiness in in clueless. He's playing that character whose without he's just very he talked about that. I thought that was interesting that he said he he was playing a poser really like that guy. That character was a bit of a poser but he didn't WanNA play it like a post like he didn't WanNa Moser. You know yeah so he tried to make it as authentic as possible because that's a big part of that that movie I mean he talks about it. I don't know that line really struck me because I think it's the first time I ever heard.

There's no way you're bugging if you think I'm I'm leaving but you must have done it in like a flirty fun way absolutely not now. I was like get Outta here. Hell No. I'm not going anywhere. We're now like well. Prints can't sit down. If you'd sit down Krista sit right here. You can't sit down pretty right here so me now so terry nine. I Taranto nine now have him flanked and Jessica sitting over here like a on a cross from across from us and Casey has to stand and I remember just talking talking to print and then leaving again so now this time she knows prince likes me and so there and you like no not that it's GonNa make her like me but they're ignorant hurt right look don't you. I know you're here with him and you guys are probably hang out when I'm gone and all of that stuff but there's no way that you can deny the fact that the coolest motherfucker on the planet likes me you the Dalai Lama on the way. They'll know at that time did forecast and but how long had you been divorced at that point for at least two years okay okay two three years okay so you're single and single and single and this is like the one time in my whole life that I've ever been really single yeah right so I see her again out. She's like hey. How's it going. I'm like hey how's it going and now all of a sudden. It's not like she's trying trying to spit game at me but she's used to me always seeing her and trying to be near her and so she tells stories of how she would be like. We're going out tonight. We might see Donald Phase on uh-huh. He's GonNa hit on me. The wherever oh right and so one night you must've sense that energy from her absolutely so it started happening a lot where we would run into each on my back. Hey how's it going and she was like hey. I'm like let me get your number and she'd be like not tonight. What hold hold on. Why not why whatever she's like? She was like nuts. Maybe some other time next time I see you. I'll give it to you now. It's like all right so she definitely there's something definitely there because she sang not tonight. She's she's saying not tonight and she's not saying no. Does she ever explain why. She said that because she was she was playing. The End. Game is is what she says. She's playing a slow game so was. She afraid that you were just like a player that you were like. She said she knew I had just gotten out a relationship She didn't want me to be another notch on the right yeah. She shoot right. Yo let me go talk to her so I go talk to her and the thing that we have in common we both went to pcs with Jerry with Jerry Yeah. She was a little bit younger than yeah but I'm just trying to talk to. You're not really trying to get with her but I'm trying to talk to her like Yo. You wouldn't be disappointed. Let's exchange numbers burs and talk. I would have been like this is the best we did exchange numbers but it wasn't to be boyfriend and girlfriend. It was just like cordial like our okay and we know who I know who you are you uh-huh. Anyway and I'm like Holy Shit and we're talking and we're talking and we're talking about school but we're having conversation so everybody around us is like what the hell they're talking about and I get a tap on my shoulder and I turned around and it's Casey and so now I'm like. I don't need to talk scarlet anymore. She made her way all the way over here to talk to me. Let me tell you it was like a Wilmer Valderrama Party so it's loaded with people. "Guidelines on the low end and have a heavy heavy rehabilitation element to their sentencing but absolutely they don't have the resources even do that. It seems which is really sad and i thought to that may that may be some of these women who were co-conspirators that are guilty of of you know assisting in the sex trafficking setting up and even participating in raping girls that they could sue the estate for being for having having been a victim but i agree with you. I don't think that that gets you off the hook making yeah unless somehow your particular prosecutor wants to make a deal but i think generally speaking yeah they should be at least tried separately and then if you're an exception and they wanna make a special deal with a state would be a civil case not a criminal right so separate yeah so keep it separate separate and then yeah if a prosecutor wants to take it upon themselves to go easier on them. I can understand that morally but generally they're adults yeah. It's it's pretty yeah black and white at that point point. Let us know what you think to <hes> hit us up at daily beans pod on twitter yesterday to see what you what people think of this because you know you're fifteen year recruited it into this you your raped and then you become you get to old and he doesn't want you anymore because too old and then you you're forced to recruit for him. You know 'cause otherwise what the hell else. Are you going to do and you're already steeped in this life now. You're a criminal yeah <hes> and you know we we hear it and see it all over the place as but yeah similarly with gang violence the culture it starts really young and then you're you're so sucked in you feel like wow i don't have another option of these bad things but yeah if we educate people to know if they were victims as a child they can you know speak out as an adult and have less of a consequence like. I don't know if there's a law for that already but that would be a good way to prevent this in the future but since it's already happened i'm like ants got it probably be case by case and done the deed as an adult already better mental health care in our country with holy. Yeah it also really smacks the moral question of these age of consent sort of like in the face because it smacks you in the face with it because it's like when they're seventeen years old and they're you know actively recruiting actually engaging in this stuff. They're a victim and then when they're eighteen they instantly become a perpetrator that gets punished to the full extent of the law. That's very interesting thing to grapple with in your mind because it's one day and then tomorrow yeah you know just by the nature of laws you have to draw a line there it is right might seem arbitrary career but that kind of thing and i spoke at age of consent i just more meant like adulthood or would be considered you being okay. Antenna both also yeah right also with that stuff too especially with like statutory rape stuff not in this case right. Maybe another case dry..

"To cut off later ukraine <hes> while you know trying to discredit them on the world stage and then also bashing nato allies so don't take our word for it rush officials have praised trump and pence for these replies and the delay in military to ukraine so that's tough yeah because ukraine's that's a big part of their whole plan and i mean it just gets mixed in with all the bullshit they do but that's a huge one yeah and then you have trump at the g. Seven a blaming obama for the annexation region of crimea. I remember that and not the russians who annexed crimea yeah yeah so you know and then refusing to implement the sanctions that obama put on russia for for doing that for invading <hes> crimea annexing crimea to present facts. He's like crabby river in fact having flynn call kislyak and say don't do anything about you know these these sanctions that obama put on you for annexing crimea <hes> in don't worry we'll cut off aid to ukraine. That's why i wanted to hear those phone calls. What are you going to do for us with ukraine and we of course we have the dearborn mashburn manafort you know changing being of the r._n._c. language and cleveland to to take the word lethal out of <hes> you know the aid that we would supply to ease the language on ukraine and russia on russia's behalf totally agenda. I wonder what took them so long right. You think they would do this earlier in the term you know they might have thought they were going to do it like in a couple years but they're they don't have that much time. That's why even like kellyanne is like our deadline. Is january twenty twenty two to get all this stuff done or january twenty twenty one to get everything done. Ah like yeah. 'cause you know you're gonna. We're gonna wipe the floor with your ass and everything must go into liquidation sale <hes> so keep keep an eye on this because this is really we really awful and ukraine needs our support <hes> and they usually before this. They always had it from the republicans but not anymore so yeah the g._o._p. Okay what used to be. That's for sure definitely not and this is cool. A court just ruled that the victims of the charleston church mass shooting can sue now over background. Check failures has that led to the shoot. Let lead the shooter to buy a gun. The federal appeals court ruled that the federal government is not immune from claims over what the f. b. I. admitted were lapses. In the national background ground check system this was shooting at mother emmanuel ame church in charleston south carolina depicted and this is america that the dylann roof us jewish in the nine people killed them the black church during prayer yeah exactly the dylann roof shooting yeah i heard that actually a guy <hes> beat him up jail beat up dillon of black guy and he raised so much money on this go fund me that he was able to bail himself out of jail for kicking dylann roof sas. Oh my god yeah him bail me we out <hes> basically go fund me a great business model. I hope there's some way inmates can to resist you know like use their skills forget..

I'm your host a._g. And with me today lisa johnson hello and joining coburn so we just got off the plane back from san francisco that was so much fun is it was <hes> it is much hotter here and that is no fun. San francisco was fantastic. Everybody was great mazing. Show amazing crowd and the guests. The whole thing was awesome. Yeah yeah we have over four hundred people in a theater for fire marshal for exactly four hundred so and adam savage was great. What a what a gem of a man seriously and <hes> steph miller shout out to to you that was great and <hes> we had somebody from iheartradio. They're real talk nine tan. I think was the name of his show just so much awesomeness what you you have a photographer cam that oh yeah henrik yeah. He's a great pictures of us in front of an american flag actually printouts of an american flag. That's way more capitalist appreciate that adam pointed out was already waving. It was a photo of an already waving logistically do that yourself. No we we didn't but we did have a little breeze so it was a waving waving flag double waves all right. We do have a lot of news to cover over the weekend so let's get to it without notes. It's hot notes okay. Zoe tillman's added again my favorite <hes> buzzfeed news reporter. She's she does all covers all the courts and it looks like things are getting rocky in the michael flynn case as predicted when he fired his legal team and hired muller conspiracy theorist and crackpot sydney powell we we saw this coming his new legal team. Just <hes> today filed a motion. I've actually it was over the weekend accusing prosecutors of withholding exculpatory evidence under the brady rule including multiple f. b. i. records and the struck page texts i it appears by the filing flynns team has not seen the skull tori information or nor nor do they have evidence that it even exists. They just think there could be some in there and so they want to see it because they accuse the government of having a history of blocking skull tori tori evidence so according to tillman from buzzfeed news flynn argues in a footnote <hes> flynn's legal team argued footnote they should be able to see the information requested because flynn wind may also have defenses that his prior lawyers didn't explore and that is a sign a significant sign that he may be considering withdrawing his guilty plea specifically typically flynn's new lawyers are mentioning a case that involve judge sullivan before with an and there were brady issues in that case so the brady issues are like i said these are ones where sculptural evidences left left out so they seem to be leaning on his distaste for sloppy defenses however prosecutors in the mueller probe have a history of filing sculpture tori evidence motions as they did in manafort's ford's case remember when new evidence came out about rick gates giving the polling data to concentrate kalinic on manafort's behalf and muller was like hey this could be exculpatory <hes> judge in this <hes> manafort case <hes> he look and you know they gave it to judge jackson like yeah see. It's you know look..
