"And now with the signing, I guess, imminent, I hope it gets done. It seems like that process is reaching its conclusion, what part one of it anyway, and now part two was the big question, is I can't actually run a team the way maxi ran this team. I'm bullish on it. I think santhe is a really good player. I think having Keaton parks healthy from the jump makes a big difference for this team because he's like he's a field tilt machine. He's so good at those progressive passes to feed in the pockets. It makes the job easier for a number ten. And that happens within the CFG framework. Nick Cushing did not have an easy introduction as head coach last year. But even so, you could see that it was still largely the same team trying to play the same system for whatever reason there was just a massive drop off for a couple of months. But I think once you have all those boxes checked, the idea is the system becomes so reliable in second nature for most of the players that it makes a transition to a new era easier. How'd you feel about Keaton parks, Santi Rodriguez, James sands midfield? I mean, that would work real nice, wouldn't it? Yeah. He's loans over on June 30th. Islam's over and like it does not look like he's not a regular for rangers ever since Giovanni van Branco scout let go. They're not going to hit that number to make the loan permanent. Are you assume there's another move out there for him if that's what he desires? I think he's shown enough in his career. But I just throw that out there. With this team, in abstract, if you think spines are important to soccer teams, Sean Johnson, Alex Collins, maxim a maximalist Tati and or eber, whichever you want. That's straight up the middle. Yep. So there's a ton of talent and I everyone you talk to around MLS says you believe in NYCFC's resources and they don't just say that in a spending way, right? That's in scouting. That's in coaching. That's in their ability to bring players in, but that is, that is a lot to lose at one time, and then sort of on the Santee point from door. I was like, how do you bring the next guy in next to who? That you've lost the continuity that makes it easy for so many players to settle in. So I can understand believing Thiago Martin's a DP center back. He'll be fine next to Chanel. Position for position Matt freeze is I think a starting level MLS goalkeeper.

opinion informed perspectives and expert data driven commentary on breaking news Welcome to Bloomberg opinion on Bloomberg radio bring you news comments and insights from Bloomberg opinions worldwide team of editors and columnists I'm your host June grosso This week is progressive economic policy making dead As we've seen from Congress a lot of the ways they want to tackle inflation is sort of by creating more inflation in a way of giving people money It's understandable because people are more electorally inclined but ultimately mom Chelsea is the way to control inflation Also on the show what the Biden administration is doing to help America finally move past the COVID-19 pandemic We don't think about our ventilation or HVAC system is very often It was on everyone's radar but has become a thing that has dropped off the map I would say as we've moved into this next phase of the pandemic Plus how department stores can modernize their operations online When you split things when you introduce more complexity it just makes it work less well It's more cumbersome and the danger is that the consumer sees the joins But first the price of gas has climbed at a record pace in recent weeks White House press secretary Jen Psaki points to the war in Ukraine as a primary cause A large driver of these inflationary numbers from the last these monthly numbers were from energy prices And we have seen the increase happen as a result of Russia's invasion of Ukraine Bloomberg opinion columnist Liam denning argues it's increasing people's desire to become more energy independent Just give us an update on the state of the energy markets right now So the energy markets are undergoing the sort of stress test that I don't think any of us have really seen in our lifetimes you know in the past we've had energy shocks What we're seeing now with this situation Russia and Ukraine is not just disruption to energy markets but outright fragmentation We've all grown up with globalization and that applies to energy as much as anything else And so what we've seen since Russia attack Ukraine is not simply price spikes and that sort of thing although we have seen those but fundamental breaks companies withdrawing from Russia altogether The U.S. imposing energy sanctions Europe not joining in on those because it really relies on Russian energy to a far greater degree than we do in the U.S. But laying out a plan to essentially get itself off dependence on Russian energy exports inside of the next 7 or 8 years So what we're seeing is not just disruption but outright fragmentation How will this all affect the EU's attempt to address climate change Well it will affect the EU's attempt and the wider world So looking at the EU in particular this divide between the EU and Russia on energy had been happening in the background anyway There had been various spats in the past of course around gas exports But the big one for me is the carbon border adjustment mechanism which EU finance ministers appear to have actually agreed this week and that's essentially a tax on carbon intensive imports coming into the EU It's a way effectively for the EU to protect itself as it imposes a cost on carbon within its own economies it doesn't want economies from outside the area undercutting it with exports that don't price in carbon Now Russia was particularly in the crosshairs of this because the Russian economy is something like four or 5 times as energy intensive as the EU economy Russian steel or any other kind of industrial exports to Europe were always going to be hit by this carbon border adjustment mechanism And that in itself would represent a fundamental shift in the global energy trade It comes back to this issue of globalization you know one of the ways we have enjoyed relatively cheap energy for the past 7 or 8 decades marked by the occasional price spike is globalization It's enabled us to diversify our supplies it's enabled us to drive down the cost of technologies And this applies as much to renewables as it does to oil and gas If you reintroduce trade friction in the form of one in tariffs and at the other end just outright sanctions.

"In his dr. In in in four department so any any number of players could potentially make their mark and when you have a new coach these types of things happen you have players that you are assumed or establish positions. There was also. I think a stephen gulf tweet about them Toying with the idea of buying out his contract So i we don't get a lot of the lake. Drama tabloid filled do stories by. That's a sign that this team is not confident in him and his basically like we don't have another option right now. We're just going to give him a shot again. See what happens I i will. I will forever. Where the shame of ola kamara for for the rest of eternity about how much. I wanted him here. And then it's like it's like you want something so much on christmas and then you finally get it and it ends up being nothing like nothing like you want it it's it's astounding to me that a player whose only job is to get into good positions and you have a team that is built to do that and for some reason. You can't do it. So are extra was pretty low last year Fares his hit he had. I think his ex g and goals actually scored were identical and the goals were only four although he was leading scorer so last year the real challenge to evaluate talent It was just bad. Really almost universally. But i i think that it's you know like you said i think it's a great sign of a new coach where you don't necessarily have to stick down the same road that you've been on just because it was the road you're on. There's no path dependence of new coach. So give eric's orga chance. Give nigel bertha joel. I believe will be playing probably pretty soon as his fit But there are there are players that got to give a shot to and nigel. He's already privately fitter than most of the team because he right been playing in bulgaria. So i would i would say i don't think he starts I don't think he starts. But i think he I think you could see him off the bench For sure So we'll we'll we'll we'll see what happens it's gonna be it's gonna be a a brave new world rendering in. I am so excited For inevitable disappointment when will probably lose this game pretty badly with. I keeping that in the back of my head right now. I'm going to be positive. I e you hear my prediction later in the show about what i think the game will be What it will what. I think the game will be Let's get into. We skip this last week with all the news about the new tv partner. Being a member of a team or an organization so those are five questions if you jot those down and play him back and if you could give answers to that you're probably forty percent through most standard interviews. Entered a really good spot if you get ahead on those conversations for sure i i. There's so many things that i was making mental notes on as you were talking. I've said for years my my three most important things were hiring was that i was looking for people that were curious coach competitive like those are the things that always stood out to me. I wanted that continual learner. I wanted somebody who was coach -able and we're willing to like be taught and give it to improve and then you know people are competitive. I'm just drawn to them to So there's so many great parts in that too and and you're right these behavioral interview questions where it's like. Tell me about a time. Give me the story and that makes your resume come to life to. It's not just you said you did this thing. It's like i want to hear you talk about it. I wanna hear you really explain what you've done. What your thought process was what you may have do differently if you were doing it again. You know proven the concept that you've actually done it. So why don't the feedback. I'll give them that because it made me. You made me think of it. I often give the advice. That resumes are like menus a menu menus menu. It's meant to show what set establishment sells been differences. You want your menu to be that ala carte menu that fine dining experience where i don't have to put anything in your hands. You know if. I'm the waiter not putting anything in your hands. I'm either showing you. I'm holding the lobster in my hand to show you. We sell lobsters. You're not reading it online. You what you don't want is for your resume to be mcdonald's me we all know what's on mcdonald's me i don't care where in the country.

"It's not. I'm a sports fan. It's not. I don't always the leader. I'm very smart. Those aren't the things that are going to make the team better. What makes that team better is. You know. I'm good at problem solving when people argue. Have a way of of kinda moderating in helping us focused on a goal when we're in a team environment. I'm pretty creative unstructured. These just different voices. I'm giving you. I'm structured and organized so on a team. I help keep us on task. So imagine yourself joining santee. Don't make it necessarily the company. You're you're interviewing for but if you're joining a team what do you bring to any group and i would start with that. We all like to hire learners. I i heard from. I can't remember her last name misty. She was a gold medalist Volleyball beach volleyball player to hear her speak and she said when she played sports back in high school. She played basketball. She's tall. She played basketball and she didn't begin playing volleyball until later. I think it was college is not college. It might have been late high school and she said the one compliment. She always got was that she was coaching. And as always resonated with me is the ability to be coach. We'll get you further than the best talent in the room. Is the ability for someone to to provide you with critical feedback. It might not feel good. It might not be what you wanna hear but realizing that you can improve it goes back to that growth mindset that no one is perfect and then we all should be aspiring to get better. Dame's even talk about the growth mindset and saying that if lebron james is the vp multiple if you're in vp championship championship rings on multiple fingers. If he can communicate that each day he wakes up. He could get better. I think we all need to look at ourselves and figure out. What are we doing to get better. And then we in that whole failing peace whenever you failed. When have you tried something that was out of your comfort zone. Those are the stories. We like to hear that interview setting. So you can expect that in an interview setting near going to be a series of. Tell me about a time now in a microsoft environment in target environment coca-cola environment. You will likely hear that exact phrase. Tell me about a time where you such such in other environments. It might not be told me about a time. It might be if you had a decision without all of the details in your head. You should think. Tell me about a time. You had to make a decision without all the details. They're gonna ask you a series of questions that are all behavioral based and trying to figure out who you are and how you lead so they wanna know. What are your strengths. What are your opportunities that catches people of all the time. People don't like to talk about what they're not good at to be self aware enough to share a piece something that you're focusing to get better. They want to know about a difficult decision. That you've made they wanna know about a time you failed and this is not only. I feel my biology test last week. No this is. I share some personal information of a friend in it. Ruined the relationship because you know what we want to know is your employer. How did that feel. What did you differently will make you a better person. We're not stuck on the fact that you shared some information that you shouldn't have but what did you do when you felt at that. Low point.

"Right he goes out the press and says something has viewpoint has a you know and everybody feels that. Would networks for microsoft. They know that they're part of representing that for you. The athletes are part of that. A major part of that voice and when they go out and speak reestablished part of the culture and they established what you stand for and they establish what meaning is and all those who are things right so it's important to let that happen in a real sense and to be able to let them tell their stories to let them give behind the scenes. Look of what they do and to make everyone feel connected to them as humans are not something on a lofty perch. They're right there part of it. So true goner those trophy. Athletes were athletes. That you have a story. Share it and comfortable sharing that. It wasn't easy to get here. These are the obstacles. This is what i'm proud of. You know had a tough game like that. Authentic voice is what we're valuing As fans now more than ever and the club has to help deliver that when we talk about pivoting and make it happen. We couldn't talk to fans in the stands anymore. So now you've got to talk to them in their homes with everything else going on in the world. So i completely agree with you. It's fun to watch and it will. It will change. I keep up on the storytelling sides. Now now i'm getting. I'm getting all excited like you are talking about all this stuff. So let's get deeper into the staffing side a little bit. Because i know that's what a lot of people in our audience really really want to know more about from a tactical strategic standpoint. Obviously you play a major role in creating the people strategy at nyc afc. Is there a common denominator that you look for employees at nyc afc. I know we're talking about removing barriers in not having people to segmented and we're opening things up but are there certain traits that you're looking for and like are there certain must have attributes. And how do you find and identify those people that are going to be complementary to who you are as an organization. Those are some really great questions and should help. The audience navigate the sporting industry. In general we talked about it at the beginning. Being passionate is a characteristic that cannot be created so it's something that we look for. Now mind you. Everyone's not going to be passionate in how they communicate. Everyone's not going to be passionate. You know necessarily for soccer but what we're looking for. Is that burning in the belly. What what is it in your life that you were passionate about. It could be family. it'd be cooking. It could be animals. It could be culturally but when you are in an interview setting it's important for you to show up as a person a lot of times Injury level roles when we're doing applications interviews for those entry positions people. Show up trying to be what we want them to be what they think we want them to be. And it comes across as robotic in authentic. So would i encourage each person considering not just in. The sporting world is identify who you are. What makes you different from your friends. What makes you different from your siblings and own in possess and think about how that can make organization a department or t. Maybe you haven't worked in the professional environment for very long but if you put me on a team this what i can bring to that t..

"I've worked with all different types of people. I've always loved a diverse environment. I've worked in atlanta. I've worked in seattle. I've worked in denver of now in philadelphia to different places across the country. And so i've always been very adept and used to a diverse and inclusive work Work place and loved that. Why has it taken so long for to make this a focus. I mean you've been in i- tiring and human resources and structural organizational concepts for a long time. Why has it taken so long to get here. Because my opinion is you can't solve or fix diversity and inclusion. It is a continuum so when you typically employ resources or or add resources to something it's to solve its to fix and we're talking about a concept that you cannot fix or solve. It's not easy so when most people talk about diversity inclusion the quick answer is oh that's representations so look around the room are you diverse in is their diversity. because they're they're different complexions in different heights that's people often times especially prior to now into the conversation with visual representation so continuum meaning.

"You start the call like bernie greet. Everything's great now. I'm staying up until two in the morning watching. Cnn horrified at night. We were avoiding that whole conversation because it's not professional and that wasn't fair to our staff so we took those quotes off of not professional and we dug in and said now. Is anybody else up at one. Thirty on cnn when typically goes to remakes or or or any other channels for nuts or channel but any other knows notion msnbc fox news people were glued to their tv sets and then expected to live normalize. And we just pulled the blinders off and we had conversations. We didn't try to fix anyone medium. Try to influence anyone but we wanted to create a culture and an environment where people felt safe in her and that the club knew we were recognizing what was going on in the world. I love the humanity aspect of this conversation. It's like you were saying earlier. Like you have to have some grace for yourself right for twenty two thousand eight living through it you have to be able to take it easy on yourself and that comes through in all of these little parts of not little but always parts of last year is like everyone has to be allowed to feel their feelings right. You can't tell somebody how to feel or how they should react to something and everybody needs to have an opportunity to express that in a safe manner. Like i love the fact that you're not saying hey we have work to do to get back to the grind. We have things to do. We went to check the box and get them done. No you're saying these are people. These are actually changes that we respect and we care about we want them to be thriving and complete in a mental way too so that we want them to be the best version that they can and this is what they need right now like. it's not leitch. We have to check the box and make sure these things get done. It's like we gotta make sure that everybody's okay and that showed up very much in our environment and you just the topic of of what came from that. What started as social unrest led to this intensity around and again most organizations had not really explored that terrain. But you kind of felt forced the time. Let me the movement. We've gotta do more wherever we are. Everybody can do more. And we of course bought into that as well. We created deny council. We came up with a starting eleven initiatives. That club was agreeing to but larger than that. We admitted.

"That linear it's not just about a passion for soccer. We ultimately ended up hiring people who are passionate about crocheting who are passionate about chicago griffey. Because what we're looking to hire here end at a lot of innovative organizations is you hire. Passion can shape that but oftentimes people what we what we run into is the oh. I'm just a fan. I'm a fanatic and that does necessarily translate into success productivity partnerships. Collaboration batches means. You're gonna be there at all the games jerry and those are what we call wins. It's so true and literally we could. We could end this. We're not going to entertain you right now. And that could be the overarching point. Everybody gets out of this and hopefully that would make a big enough difference between. I've hired my entire career and we don't hire fans fans are distracted. Fans are always looking for for their moment rather than being part of the team and part of the business organization and so your point is so spot on and i just hope everybody will listen to it. That's not a differentiator zinger. A huge fan. What happened can you bring to the organization right absolutely and that's what i thought about. When it came to the sports world i was working in financial services nine to five environment dressing up pumped in a sheath dress every day and i was miserable i was doing. Hr i had been promoted into that role. it was the highest level at the time of the director with the financial services company. And i just wasn't happy. And what i missed from my days in retail and miss from my days in technology microsoft was the customer interaction. I realized right then and there. I was not mitt to sit behind the door. And wait for the act to come a so. I saw an opportunity in atlanta with a and b sports and entertainment and everything about it just resonated with me but the one thing i'll point out was arthur blank is has very strong cultural values. If you're familiar with are the you know. He came from from home depot. Ask instrumental in creating their value wheel and its actual wheel there. And he did the same thing with his own companies. Is he bills. The culture on core values and it just resonated very strongly with me especially coming from a global microsoft where you have to establish those values. You have one hundred thousand employees across the globe. You've got to be very clear and who you are. That's what microsoft did very well..

LAFC get over El Trafico hump! Zlatan's last game? Plus, ATL roll on, NYCFC biff it & Sounders end Rimando's career

"News it's fair that's the right you have their hand up in fingers out and they'll say five they say five we have I I mean I it's tilting towards that player improves Bob trusts him that player goes out there that player play interested in Blackman say the name of Bachman in this game but he's a second year player he was drafted as a fullback he started as a centre back in the playoffs against lot Abrahama Vich and he was good we see for Dennis to close a became a part of Giancarlo gonzalves not one of them but you're already had seven centrebacks on the roster what we're going to do about him so I would be shocked to see five or six of these names even on the team next year then we saw in the starting lineup that frontline next year as Pavonis Alessandrini Cheeto in the middle of the scar one hundred fifty goals tonight's game on whether it was his last in the last quote it's not about money I have another two months that's on his contract we will see what happens Mike because it also sounds like it might be about that's the type of thing you say when you say if you want people to watch you pay me more money I don't think it is and from like he he didn't do the pre game interview with ESPN and he seemed a little not rattled but annoyed and tailored tweeted out and said one of the Galaxy Representative said he's been like this all week I think some people took that as he's locked in but I took it as he's just kind of a bit annoyed with hall thing and the way maybe the season's gone and you could say there's a million arguments you can make a million different directions one is he's done everything he can the team hasn't put a team around him why should he spend more time trying to make this better you could also say that he came inside concord he didn't win a championship but he's been one of the three best scores in the league over the last two years after he blew out his knee and came back in a new place and did all that so nothing would surprise me but if you're let me to put a guess on somewhere I'd say he's not playing soccer next I got well it I think you're wrong about that but anyway I gotta ask you this what grade do you give Garam Barrow Scarlata for this year now there are extenuating circumstances those circumstances there's lots on anytime you are managing a team was slapped on that is a very very real I'm going to say it's a limiter on what you can do do both with Latin in with the players around now I would not give him any higher than a B minus I think why I think his job was to to construct something behind slot on that wasn't just a complete seve and it was just you had to find a way Eh get some semblance of organisation you had enough especially when pavone came in special players to do a three man game and attacking sense it can work was Unin pavone and fill in the blank even if it's early on tuna in major league soccer you just have to find a way to get your bit-part players of the guys that you picked up have you don't fit for Denison closer maybe we'll never be back but who cares it might be last year the galaxy you gotTa Win some symbols of Organization and structure and competence see defensively to get a better than a B minus grade in this sense he's inexperienced coach he's done before he's been in shaping which I know he's had more talented at Boca Juniors he's played in this league the crew when he played for them if I remember correctly you were not some expansive team he was a difference maker he made the Batak around him better it was down four four one one he played completely free role they had Allie Marino as as a centre forward just dragging defenders around it just to open it you had an opportunity to Kinda almost two structures one is Latin and whoever the hell is up there and the rest is the rest of the team guys just dig in Yeah figure it out getting your blocks don't teams have easy goals and this team I'm GonNa make a guess other than FC Cincinnati probably gave up the most like Oh my God what goals are you kidding me right now that's what how did that happen I agree with you I think it'd be minus is probably a good grade yeah probably for what's going on and I I love Guillermo so for Sir I felt bad going in part of this lots conversations I'm fascinated to see what he does Latin doesn't return like water the allegations he looks like under his vision the way he builds after that a little bit of time but I don't know that he was that creative with formations to say like I gotta figure something out we'll make the post is in but here's my four weeks test this and here's my two weeks attest this and I think in places you mentioned for Bob Rally a young guy will learn and get better where did we see that right who Leonora who played well and then all of a sudden Ralph John Fletcher's the difference maker now John Carlos Gonzales is you're right back the he had three incredible central midfielders they could never really control games like why was that night the tiger let's just see if we can get our foot on the ball on that will be our defending is well control games so grew with we I think a lot of it unfortunate wasn't good enough from him but it'll be interesting to see in year two if he doesn't have slots on how he chooses to play how his team you can kind of understand why it was in some ways because it was like the island of misfit toys and a lot of all these different teams that failed and then they come in you have Gonzaga on your Guy Z.? You lose all of a sudden you have expectations that are always over the maybe the capability of the team especially this era where they've been to close at one year I think you've got to start judging my next especially there's lots on you but you better have had a plan and I expect they do we'll see what that plan is before we move onto union Atlanta to know what you think about Bradley's Will Fang his little spots are who I really respect as a journalist I loves me I think he does a great job I think he's the future broadcasting US bilingual aspect of it with Mexico and the US and legal maximum loss be mashed up into one place he was very dominated his questioning about Carlos Vela and whether Carlos Villa had finally stepped up in a big game and Bob was incredulous and perhaps rightly so in the moment What do you think what do you think it was one person's job to ask obvious questions that everyone in the world is thinking it's another person's set up there to answer those questions I don't think anything that are asked was ridiculous I mean he asked the question he has and he asked the question everyone else and he asked actually and he's set bob up to say there's no chance anyone could say what you just said anymore he was phenomenal tonight he's been phenomenal season he's EP of major league soccer he's the best player this league's ever seen and he's going to go in and MLS Cup yeah it was that simple but it was fun the way it happened Bob a stupid Bob knows a good. TV's Bob knows everybody in that locker room is going to see that see him sticking up four to see him sticking up for for his best player the heartbeat of the team many messy the MLS messy like I I'm not saying like I I'm certain Bob's emotion in that moment because you could see he loves Carla I'M CERTAIN THAT EMOTION and was real but I'm all I think it was somewhat calculated for the to to make that a moment say like see they're always going to be asking this about what s let's go kick set go Seattle's as was win MLS Cup show every let's shut everyone up forever that's what that was I like it if that's what it was I like it I enjoyed it he's like look there's an ESPN ESPN notification that goes out after that you don't see that for they get that for the win I don't think like let let's just if that's what it takes man like you have all the historical rancid it's out there but you know how I feel about this league sometimes flavor man give me some flavor and Bob Bradley absolutely did Elliot C are moving on their the low number one seed remaining they just got to win one game and if they do that most couple in Los Angeles at Bank of California Stadium talk about it on Monday because we're that's the nice thing is Monday comes and we can really dive into Seattle L.. AFC and I just throw something out there sure I would be shocked if Seattle won that game I think that it's going to be more comfortable than the game we just watched this is the third tune in on Monday that producer honors a noted satellite is that the right the right phrasing for that unders Seattle Seattle ish person who's he's not happy with us that's fine we don't here to please you unders let's talk Atlanta Philly Alanna do what they do they win at home in the Playoffs Limitation Games it's eight in a row so far this year us Gut Communist Cup into the Audi twenty playoffs couple of shutouts Philadelphia great season great season Talla gap town gap better players bigger moments we also had this thing where it's like Philly I have eleven great players they're a great group which means they don't rely on one person but unfortunately that also meant if anyone got hurt they were behind the eight ball and you're not going to go in a scenario where you have all eleven guys healthy for every player Front Josie Outdoor Omar Gonzalez are out right Walker Zimmerman and Mark Anthony Care out so every you're always gonNA have injuries miles Robinson and Michael Parkers now not to mention Lee win in that previous like Mark Anthony Cares out loud wind came in and hit a decent philly doesn't have that former MVP game and Broncos on makes a phenomenal save but you as you watch this game it was hard to see where the goal was gonna come from four Philly and I don't think it's knock on them to go on short rest to go on
