"The Odyssey app, or wherever you get your podcasts. News time two 28, you know, it's one of those days where you can follow your traffic patterns based on the Doppler radar screen. In Shane is going back to Nevada for that very reason he joins us from your local Honda dealers traffic center. Yes, that is correct, Brad. We're going to talk about these two crashes again in Novato. The first one's northbound one O one, as you're approaching nave drive, got a car. Flew a little too far, and then it landed on the center device. So now it's just teetering on that edge, so CHP and fire department are on scene right now, trying to help out the person that's still stuck in that car. Those two left lanes are blocked and you're just jammed at the moment as you're approaching Lucas valley road. Now once you get past that lengthy delay, continuing on into Novato making away closer towards Petaluma, it's another crash, just after San Antonio road, left lane still being blocked with this accident, you're just crawling from here as well from after ten avenue. Now we're just getting new reports about flooding if you're in the mill bray burlingame area. One O one southbound. This is going to be right there at Broadway. Usual suspected flooding at the moment taking up that left lane so you're just looking at a lot of heavy traffic if you're leaving away from SFO, North Pole one O one, not being affected. Things are looking really good from San Mateo as you continue on into San Francisco, but if you are trying to leave out as the city, lower deck of the bay bridge, you're just looking at delays on one O one as you're approaching Caesar Chavez street. Your next update is at two 38 on the traffic leader K CBS. Well, as you can tell from listening to the traffic report that next round of rain is here, mostly in the north bay, but it's going to move up the entire Bay Area in the next few hours. We will see rain heavy at times. We'll see random tomorrow. We'll see it Saturday. Shower is supposed to taper off in time for New Year's Eve. Traffic and weather together on the 8th on all news one O 6 9 and a.m. 7 40 CBS. Is there something really absurd that schemes you out? Getting a paper cut

"Sunnyvale. Just ahead on kcbs. I'm Jennifer Hodges, why ahead of lettuce is going to set you back quite a bit in the new year. I'm 1208. It's time for our first look at traffic in the noon hour and Victor zaragoza has spotted an accident in, is it Vallejo? Yeah, it's in Vallejo, but it looks like that one was moved over to the right hand shoulder quickly this was on highway 37 in the westbound direction and when she actually get past highway 29 where it was first reported. It looks like you'll start to break tap just a bit as you pass a mayor island after that. It's a pretty smooth ride until about Sears point highway one 21 as you come up in that intersection there, it looks like you're a little bit of brake Tapping, nothing too much. I don't see nothing major going on in that area. If you see anything different because I see slowing in just about every direction in that area, excuse me, but very, very light. Once you actually get past that, it's a very smooth ride all the way to Novato now there is something there around the Sears point area highway one 21 and 37 and Sonoma county. Feel free to reach out on the kcbs phone force at four one 5 three 9 one K CBS. Also, looking at pockets of slow to heavy traffic on 80 and the westbound direction through Albany right around Golden Gate fields to the 8 85 80 interchange and if you continue on to the bay bridge, 80 westbound into San Francisco that is a clear ride, at least to about Fremont street then after that, it's a pretty sluggish and tea get to the one on one split. Your next job we go up to that 1218 on the traffic leader in kcv. Sunny but cool this afternoon, our KCB asked the Bay Area forecast is calling for highs today only in the mid 50s. It's also breezy, so that cools things down

"Pavers. Quesadillas news time is 1238 to victors in your local haunted dealer's traffic center. We're headed back to Petaluma. With a lot of heavy traffic on one O one southbound just as you pass castana road, it did get a call from Eric on a kcbs phone force at four one 5 three 9 one K CVS said it took him 50 minutes to drive from Petaluma to Novato. That is because just before you get to Nevada before at their ten avenue, caltrans has the right lane block they're doing some pavement work there. So just have to castagna road out. You're going to see the brake lights. So we're talking about a 5 mile back up here. Very heavy traffic and there are going to be there until 2 o'clock, by the time you reach Atherton avenue, then you'll be clearing at the speed limit. You just need to get through all of that. Also when Oakland is still looking at slow traffic on southbound 8 80 from, let's say, right before you get to the 16th avenue exit from there to hagenburg a road and speaking of Hagen burger road, the reason it's very heavy in the northbound direction, right at hagenburg, road, north bay, and you have all lanes still blocked. This is also due to a crash now traffic is getting by on the right hand shoulder and you are backed up into San Leandro beyond Marina boulevard. You're not backed up all the way to two 38, but it's very close to that and also if you are leaving the Dublin area headed in a Castro Valley that'll be on 5 80 in the westbound direction, just as you pass San Ramon road, you're going to be on the brakes. This is due to a big rig that has a detached trailer in the second lane from the right once you get past that, it's a nice ride in a Castro Valley. Your next traffic update at 1248 on the traffic leader KCB S. Thank you, Victor, mostly sunny skies throughout the day, highs in the low to mid 50s, partly cloudy this evening, then mostly cloudy overnight, lows in the

"Limit into Vallejo. Westbound direction, that is clearing at the limit from my interstate 80 in Vallejo all the way to how we want to win in Novato. It's another drizzly day for us at least up in the north, bay where we're seeing most of The Rain activity for the rest of us just partly cloudy skies this afternoon, but don't be shocked if you see a hit or miss shower heading into the afternoon. Now daytime heights today are sitting in the upper 50s and lower 60s, but a major cold front is pushing its way through in the overnight hours tonight and we're waking up tomorrow with daytime highs only reaching into the low 50s with more rain in the forecast. That's your election day forecast too, so just make sure you're bundling up if you're heading out to the polls once we head into Wednesday and Thursday things start clearing up and daytime highs will still be still gonna be sitting in the upper 50s and lower 60s. "Did you guys hear that? You kids want corn for dinner? Did you not think it just? It's beautiful. It's so beautiful. It's majestic. Does that game count though as like it counts as a Major League Baseball game? So it goes on the record. Yes. That sucks because they're interviewing players the whole time. I mean, Joey Votto, the whole thing was talking to the commentators the whole time. I mean, coach, you can't, I like that. You can. They gotta focus. It has to take a little bit away from the Sunday Night baseball. Sunday Night baseball, they do it where they mic up someone in the field. That is great. I'm telling you, the times they've done it, I've been terrified verdugo is going to drop a pop up because he's not focused at all. Somebody is going to get nailed in the head because they're thinking about what to say. And it's going to be the end of talking during the game. I mean, it is so hard to talk in depth and listen and then also see a pop up and catch it. Yeah. That has to be so damn hard. Now they stopped talking when the ball gets hit, but I mean, still coach. It's still in their head. Yes. I mean, they're mic'd up. All I got this mic in my bag pocket. Oh, I wonder if they can hear this. Like, they were talking Novato. Did you see this coach? And then one of the cubs guys, I don't know who it is. He got on first, and he told, as the guy, he walked.

"Hr nerve okay. Pastoral care for another child be one scene wishing to lie on a couch. Just talk about. He gets no moments to brief absolutely. No amount is a great consistent theme throughout the show. And i should use a difficult. Protagonist i think in general and that he's deliberately unlikable so unlikable like you wanna be like all the cowards slap him around all the time like come on. I think the idea that they do include in the film from the show of the hedgehog's dilemma. Is like if you understand that you understand all the forms of the show. This idea that people who are hurt her other people by getting closer. And i think the film tries to bring in analytical way but the show does it and so much more detail. And it's this show is ensemble of people. If you're seeing people in the distance those people are the same in the show that you could just one of you just love. Could you just communicate. Anybody pays a beggar been feeling what she in this. Like everything bro. You're saying absolutely everything dobbin feeling like. Where's the same wish you just to his dad. And he's like what the hell they just have a candid conversation tonight. I mean like there's a. There's a famous scene in the tv. Show that they don't include in the foams. i think this is a spoiler. But it's famous because the show loves a still frame There's a couple of them in the film as well. There's one in the show. Where two of the characters ray who we meet in this film filament asker who becomes more important an old series later in a lift and i think the frame lasts for like forty two seconds and then in the left still and it's like in that scene is even gaillon is just two people standing there just like seething like they hate each other. They don't know how to communicate how much they hate each other. And there's no resolution and if that doesn't even getting i've really done i won't like it is just like it is the perfect show for the mental health where modern on like it is so it was ahead of its time. I think in understanding how people suffer. Well actually saying speaking ahead of its time. Would you say that. Because i when i was watching. I mean this is just judging by the first film and obviously you're saying that it is a bit more straightforward. But i was like. Oh it's not as weight as i've seen we anime but then struck me. A lot of anime came off to that. Would you say that it's had a big impact big time. I think this is a big statement by. Do you think the even galleon from what i've read is as big to the japanese. Autistic consciousness is star. Wars is over here like cruel angel's thesis its original theme tune is one of the most despised karaoke songs in the country. There's always performed there. Were like my friend went through town recently. They just turned into an even galleon celebration for its thirty fifth. The town fountain just had like eva battles being shown on it was wild red diana. The red eye is seems to be. Like i saw that and the the rainbow on this as there's a few things that i think creatively within even gillian films that symbolize things kind in a really mystique kind of way that you don't know what it really represents like the red liquid could represent the see it could also represent the fluid that trump into but could also represent and then when when abe is destroyed the i just was blood. But that's what i mean like. You're you're constantly reminded that is it such a constant and then there's these moments where where where things will happen. You see this auk discount. Rainbow off an yeah. It says so much. It implies so much about innocence or the way anything could have gone in that situation the way it ended up going. It's like a kind of dichotomy between tragic tragedy and innocence. I mean ano- takes a lot of symbolism the existed long before him religiously staifi wise anime wise by his visual. Language has trickled down through anime for decades. Don't think there's anybody who doesn't think about even gallium when creating a story and there's been so many reconstructions of other genres things revolution. We go to know things like mudgee magical. Matica terrible name to say Do the same thing but similarly in the west. I think there's a lot of things we wouldn't have seen if we didn't have even galleon like the craziest novato she calling have changed how we think about like like mental breakdowns and arts and psychedelia. And what we do. I didn't think he would have won division without even gallion so big statement. Yes what a jump say have made that connection for like that story about like autistic tropes and how they explore. Depression and loss is fundamentally even gillian. It's a little bit more westernized as a few more big fights in it but like but it's so like it's to me. I was just watching it. And i was like this. Is there are scenes in the show where they do actually go in select shows within shows. I was i this is this is one division. This is even galleon. Things like annihilation would ever have had without even galleon like that. Whole scene where natalie portman is like various versions of herself. Let's sprouting flowers like all of this imagery of how we show and tell nothing like that. Language has become like a big part. I mean like kubrick oversee did it himself but like even galleon made what we consider to be like weird alien horror. What it is today. I think the every artist who makes anything featuring anything from outside this weld. Ozawa debt an i. That's a big call. Who come to if you if you wanna fight me. Sifi address is..

"This is crazy. So i went in sanded. It down like try to get it all out you know scrubbed it with like soap and shed and then dude it's still off gassing so then i sir where my in ninety five mask this is why you scan your own sauna like what are you doing. She's like i'm not going in that sauna again. I'm like listen i'm mike. Let me burn it out. Because but i still need to get my son on so i use my gas mask and then i go in there in my eyes when i walk out after after twenty minutes. My eyes were bloodshot. 'cause the the smoke is hitting my eyes in my eyes. Were bernie dummies. No it's not your gums gum. The honestly so. I i ripped out my entire sauna. Had all the would removed via new s. Yeah wow so. That sucks anyway. So routine architecture. Wise it's been one year almost coming up on one year of meditation and that my friend is the biggest game changer. I've ever had is. I decided to take it seriously and not just do it like an app. Just put like release it and do it really like real practice to would what israel means this our day. What are we talking. You know what's funny. Tim and it's i never descend style this with your teacher. Yeah it's it's according to the instructions. That's right so what's funny. Tim is one time. I don't know if you've ever remember we were talking about meditation. This is probably seventy six seven years ago and you said something. The effect of i think that most people will they just close their eyes and think about things when they're meditating like you didn't like like you didn't believe it off so think that's true benefits. Meditating but i think most people are just thinking about bullshit with there is yeah i was gonna ask you. Have you ever found yourself in deep on. Have your meditated. Where you've been like i mean because you the the office i you did the famous. You talk about that of boston. A pasta psychotic breakdown. Yes yes breakdown. Those pretty deep having focused psychotic break. I would say pretty. Do i have felt yes. I've had very very deep experiences. Some of the best experiences. I had were actually planking on the style and the name currently novato. Some hands of all would have the answer. I'll tell you the general approach and the general approach is having nothing to do. You actually sit there. You do not repeat a mantra. You do not pay attention to the breath. You just sit there and this is gonna sound paradoxical but you actively try to do nothing you just sit there and doing this in a group environment for period of time did it with a small group. This was one hour in the morning. One hour let's just call five. Pm like eight am and five pm in doing it in a group. I do think there is a dynamic that has gained certainly different dynamic that presents itself in a group. I don't have an explanation for this. There are theories certainly pet theories but doing it in a group two hours a day for a period of even a week produce some very very very very deep state and i would say in terms of kind of roi in a short period of time. I found that very interesting when i came back to so-called normal life i did not sustain that twice-daily cadence for very long. I think in part because it's doing it by myself or with my girlfriend. Not in a group having that accountability was very very helpful. But i have experienced some very deep states invitation. Have you found those to be pleasant states or just kind of do like when you walked away. Did you have a smile on your face. Did you feel very alison. Very very very very pleasant and very at peace for sure. Oftentimes what i've noticed this can be for me at least facilitated by doing a very intense but short sauna session for say fifteen to twenty minutes and then sitting outside and sort of air cooling and meditating for twenty minutes. Yeah that's nice. That's a great feeling. It's incredible found that to be very consistent said answer. Someone's question that you brought up. I still do sauna very very regularly and view it as a key and simple lever that able to pull for mental health whether it helps me physically or not. i don't know. I mean it may be sure. He talked proteins all of that. Yeah okay maybe. I'm not gonna know did anything until i'm dead so Juries out but from just a day to day psycho emotional and mental perspective doing a sauna especially late afternoon. If i do lift a bedtime it interferes with my sleep. But if i do it four or five clock then it seems to help and also dramatically increase. Hiv the next day. Oh interesting yeah. I've noticed that as a couple of other people. So but coming back to architecture in your meditation so one year anniversary. Congratulations that is the anniversary of what may be. You can describe for us. Yes so i mean. I've been like most people that have ever played around with meditation. Apps know i'd been dabbling in even help build one. That is a free meditation app. But his dabbling i was always dabbling. Was doing the ten fifteen minutes. Maybe twenty minutes. You know just little sessions guided in the fantastic very very great prescriptive meditation. Oh you have something wrong. You're feeling stress fear of flying. Whatever it is. There's all these courses for that you can take them. There's not a lack of apps that offer this type of content. I think the shift and the change was telling myself that this is a long road to practice to really train the brain. Like if you think about tim better way better than i do. If you want to be really good at something it can't just be an afterthought casual. I'm gonna make time for this when i feel like it when i feel like it exactly so i made that shift in my brain and said okay. I believe there is something worth pursuing here that a dedicated longer practice longer duration in a more serious discipline so for me. That was a form of zen called. Sambo's in real yes. Ambos like the the offshoots more kind of a lay s. a. n. b. o. Samba zan nurse. Yeah so check it out. When i heard about this and was introduced to my teacher henry got excited about it in really decided dive in and say okay. I'm going to read a few of the books out there on this type of zen and then create a real practice. That is fifty five minutes of sitting a day and i was telling. How much is it. Fifty five minutes. Why fifty five minutes. Well you do five five hundred twenty five minutes of your. I sit and then you do a five minute walking meditation and then another twenty five minutes so cool and for those wondering. Says he's looked it up some bowl cure done some book. Your down is a lay. Zen sect derive from both the soto and the Traditions some bowl literally means three treasures. The treasures our son is like each new nissan sung three. Some ball balls bulletin. Like my my darling. My treasurer can thing but yet some boy is three treasures and then cure all. We can get into the japanese time. Yeah killed on religious organization or teaching organization. That's cool so fifty five minutes. What do you know what the three treasures are insurance. Yeah the one. Treasure is the song..

"And that's a very very high transaction in novato krugman working for years on the theorem to project to bring that cost down by the way as an aside that is one place where fearing really differs from bitcoin. Bitcoin is saying would digital gold. This thing is immutable. don't change it and the fight in the past have been about changing or not. There was a big famous schism over that but now with theory of the question is the philosophies we do change it. We do improve it. We do make it better. But in the process there is a greater chance that things can go wrong that it can break. So now we're entering a theory to which is the scalable version of the theorem. So talk to you. Wanna give us a quick overview of theorem two at a very high level and then we can dig into the pieces. I'm sure i'm so. I think one other thing that's important to kind of add just to give a complete picture of scaling is that there's these two families are scaling scaling scaling with earlier. One scaling basically says. Let's make the blockchain itself better and to scaling says while let's come up with protocols that sit on top of the blockchain anti used the blockchain in more clever ways to provide the same kinds of security guarantees that a blockchain has but that provides a much more scale ability. Because you're just kind of sticking egg literally everything and doing everything on the blockchain directly so bitcoin for example especially after the scaling wars Focused exclusively on layer to read whereas bitcoin cash is very layer. One focused and this is a this is a classic thing in computing. Look so for example. What i go to a website. The domain name system is at a different layer the dns servers and then the act has the web page or another layer on top. And then there's a cashing layer. Where some of the data might be kept closer to me and then on my own. Computers run the java script. Because i don't want to run. Java script way back on the hdp serve or the dns server so there is a long rich history and computing of stacking layers upon layers as you get closer to point of the user. That's the point at which you use more compute execute more and more of the code so basically the idea. Here's decentralized only what you need to decentralize and so if theory is going to split into or is going to have multiple layers. And i think what you're saying is lear one is really a theorem. And that's the least scalable part but that's where the security comes in and later two is where the code is run. and that's that that has different properties. Which you're gonna get into bulbs. The way that i would describe your sex in comparison to you know big win which is very leery to focus that bitcoin cash which is fairly focused. Sem take some moderate approach. So we do both kinds of scaling right so there is the east to an effort which you mentioned bloodshed. Idiots layer wants galen right is basically saying while. We're nick this big upgrade of these area blockchain going to move it from proof of work To proof of stake of no proof of is this current consensus mechanism. That keeps the blockchain secure that on having a large number of computers just constantly cranking out these of mathematical half solutions. It's twenty four seven ends. Proof stake is a much more energy officials of there's also shorting which is earlier one stealing solution that says That instead of every node in the network have downloaded process..

"What's up welcome to in the thick? This is a podcast about politics race and culture from a POC perspective I Medina. And I'm who? We have a very special guests joining us from San Francisco. California. Is Loretto Novato. He's a journalist author of a new book it's called. Forgetting a memoir of family migration gangs and revolution in the Americas. Budo Salva through salary in your Roberto welcome to in the thick. Happy to be you go status. hinted. I love it. So the truth is, is that most of the time like I don't know but journalists, we call each other barrel last names it's weird. So I, really know Roberto as. WHAT'S UP LAURA? I thought you know. So it's kind of like. If I ended up calling you that just Outta love okay know Hosa. Your book is Super Raw. It's super honest. It's very unfiltered because I mean, how other can you write a memoir that deals with the history of Salvador Yeah Your own family's history and the complicated. Longstanding difficult relationship between the United States and in Salvador. You write a lot about your struggles, the Traumas, the violence things that you've witnessed firsthand or that you realize we're passed down to you from previous generations handing down trauma. So you talk about the rise of gangs in both Asadabad Order obviously the gang started on the streets of Los, Angeles? Child refugees, mass migration, the role of the United States in all of this and this really intimate look into Central America that. Well, we're going to talk about the fact that you know I know this place deeply. But most most journalists, they don't understand Central America and inside the from this perspective Gatiss about through go, which is a lovely way of saying he Salvadoran. And really the title. Forgetting. So talk about the title unforgiving and and what you mean and why this notion of unforgiving is so central to the Salvadoran story both here and That's part of the motivation for writing the book I am a personal level. Corrupt in a family of secret surprise surprise I don't know if anybody else had that experience. But I grew up in a household full of my mom's family's pictures. But none of my father's family's pictures for some reason, and it was just something that was not questioned. And my dad had you know I love my dad but he had a lot of secrets. So there's a personal where. My experience as. As a young kid here in San Francisco. You know it wasn't exactly a hardcore click but. Robbing we were stealing cars, we were dealing drugs, we were taking drugs, we were violent. and. We were doing things it. Had A lesson rebels do I also come out as things I did to my young adulthood after I became a born again Christian, which is unbeknownst to many I was. Going to be a preacher that was definitely. I. Was like, ooh Yeah. Yeah. I was going to be a preacher but I had to get out of how to get out of certain dangerous lifestyle. I was leading and became a born again Christian like many youth are targeted by these. Know, they're called youth ministries and they're really right wing ideological brainwashing. fucking. Thank you for pointing it out. We'll because you know what's happening in our in our communities and we're seeing this reflected in the vote is that we don't realize. How the Komo, San Mateo under the guise of preaching love and acceptance and getting into the you know getting into your heart gay and then they end up taking people to their first protests, which is an antiabortion protests and it's like you're kidding, yeah, I got on my knees. You'll see in the book I got on my knees and I prayed for the election of Ronald Wilson Reagan. Oh. My God and no, it was really funny and ironic people known nonni got Doug Guy cuts crazy but the truth is that's what I did from the corner of Twenty First Valente at a storefront church card, the open door alliance and eventually I woke up I was reading all the time and I. Started, going to Berkeley and argue with my German philosophy teachers and eventually said, you know, fuck this right wing church I'm going to bother to find myself and I went and found the Salvadoran revolution and again unbeknownst to most people I came back and was going back and forth between the side of other new. That's when I decided to go to stay for a while and I, joined the Fmln guerrillas as an urban commando.

Networking For People Who Hate Networking

"It's not what you know. It's who you know, like most cliches, it's popular because it highlights and important truth, but it's partially false. Look, there's no doubt that who you know matters. We have decades of evidence that the right connection can get your foot in the door for jobs promotions and board seats, but the mere thought of networking can stop us in our tracks. This was true in one experiment, where some people are asked to think about making friends at a cocktail party, while others imagine trying to make professional connections. Afterward the one to envision networking felt dirty to the point that they actually rated soap and toothpaste more positively and research shows that no one really mixes it mixers. Anyway, we might plan to meet new people usually end up hanging out with our old friends. So how should you think about developing your network? You don't have to start by building your contact list. You can start by building your skills because having expertise to share sets you up to connect with interesting people just ask Pasia. My name is page. Mine ark landed three miles from here. So this is nine hundred ninety two I had to have this bag of quarter everyday going to pay phone, and it was like three or four dollars per minute. He was petrified. Jane Corbin reports in March earlier this year, so three became the epicenter of a deadly attack to Russian assassins were sent to kill former Russian spy Sergei script. Now with lethal nerve agent, Novi Chuck he and his daughter Yulia discovered critically ill in the city centre. One of the police officers investigating the crime would become a victim too. You had to make sure that there was no other casualties in the house. It was vital for us to find out. What actually happened to them? Detective sergeant Nick Bailey was the first person to go to the scribbles home that night. He was wearing a full forensic suit. When he entered the house and everything appeared normal wants to come back from the house. The script was house. My my eyes pink Cuba's like pinpricks, and I was quite sweaty. And hot time, I put that down to being tired and stressed Nick Bailey to had come into contact with the Novacek, it's like oil sinking into porous surfaces and it spread by touch. Just a few milligrams can kill it only took a day for Nick to realize something was badly wrong. Everything was shuttering a very very unsteady of my fate. The sweating had gone from my forehead downward back. Mojo body was just dripping with sweat must've been pretty frightening for you. Yes. It was it was it was horrendous. I was just confused. I didn't know what was going on. And it was really really frightening. Detective sergeant Bailey recalls the moment in hospital. He was told what had poisoned him. They said you have this novel. Chalk this navigation in your blood system. What was your reaction confusion? I didn't understand how it happened scared because it's fair the nine because it's such a dangerous thing to have in your system knowing how the other two were how badly they'd been affected by it. I was petrified. It took two weeks for the police investigation to discover that the nerve agent had been sprayed on the front door handle of the scribbles home. But it took the death of dawn Sturgis to work out. How it got there her partner Charlie Rowley who also became ill had found the perfume bottle used to smuggle the substance into Britain the detective leading the investigation deputy assistant Commissioner dean Hayden. The amount that was in the bottle and the way it was applied to the script was ham address was completely breakfast. Detective sergeant Bailey unwittingly, contaminated his police station, his car and his home his family can no longer live there. My I describe as the motion of battering, and the psychological impact is is taking longer to deal with just because of everything that's happened to us and not only did we lose the house. We lost without possessions. Everything the kids we lost to that the cows. We lost everything. The UK government has blamed Russia for the attack.
