Pope Francis calls for peace on the anniversary of the War in Ukraine, Southern Baptists oust Saddleback Church over women pastors, and Iranian clerics say harsh crackdowns were a mistake.

"On this week's AP religion roundup, Pope Francis calls for peace on the anniversary of the war in Ukraine. Southern Baptist cut ties with saddleback church over women pastors, and Iranian clerics say harsh crackdowns were a mistake. The bells of saint Michael's church chimed at midnight in Ukraine's capital city to mark the beginning of the war one year ago. Pope Francis marked the anniversary of the war this week by appealing for a ceasefire and warning that Russia will never achieve true victory built on rubble. The Southern Baptist convention has disfellowshipped its second largest church for having a woman pastor. Saddleback is the renowned California mega church founded by pastor Rick Warren. The vote by the SBC's executive committee culminates growing tension between the nation's largest Protestant denomination, which officially opposes women as pastors and a congregation that has been one of the biggest church growth success stories of modern times. In 2021, Warren ordained three women has pastors, which began prompting discussions within the denomination to consider expelling the mega church. The executive committee also voted to oust 5 other congregations for over the issue of women as pastors and one over the issue of sexual abuse. Some Iranians and the sacred city of comb, a center of Shiite Muslim shrines and scholarship are quietly calling on the country's ruling clerics to reconsider how they deal with unrest. Clerics like Abu zar saw have desire on, say, the harsh crackdown was a mistake. He and others say the authority should soften their approach to demonstrators, and women's demands on being able to choose whether to wear an Islamic head covering. However, these critics from within still back the government and a wide gulf remains between them and the protesters who have called for an uprising this month, Iran marked the 44th anniversary of the country's 1979 Islamic revolution. $50M shrine to honor slain priest, first US Catholic martyr

"A $50 million Catholic shrine is set for dedication Friday to Stanley Francis rother. He was a Catholic farm boy from Oklahoma, who later became the first person born in the United States to be declared a martyr by the Catholic Church. The 46 year old priest was shot to death in 1981 by three mass assassins who entered his rectory during Guatemala Civil War. Thousands of pilgrims are expected to visit the dedication ceremony. The Spanish colonial style structure incorporates a 2000 seat sanctuary, as well as a visitor center gift shop and museum. The Oklahoma complex joins nearly 120 Catholic shrines in 27 states. A Deliberate Act of Moral Provocation at the Grammys

"Thought it'd be fun to get Debbie on here to talk with me about Madonna and about the Grammys and the so called Satan performance that they did. By the way, interesting about that is I saw an article that said that the choreographers, the Sam Smith fellow, knew exactly what he was doing. He was trying to create a massive incident. He said before the Grammys wait till the right wingers see what I have in mind for them. They're going to go nuts, they're going to go crazy. They won't be. They won't be able to contain themselves. So this was a, this was not something where they put on an interesting performance and then conservatives kind of just took it the wrong way. They did this as a sort of deliberate act of moral provocation. In fact, the support Sarah Sanders, when she goes, this is a left wing culture war that we would rather not fight, but were forced into it, were dragged into it because they want us to worship at their false idols. So worship not only at sexual perversion, all kinds of other perversion, but also evidently worship at the shrine of Satan himself. Like pan, right? Explain what you mean by pants. Right, so pan, that was one of the gods that was back in Jesus time. And they had this place in caesarea philippi. Is it accessory philippi? Says are philippi, where they basically the, you know, the non believers. I guess they were non Jews. Non Jews and non Christian believers or they didn't believe in Christ or they didn't think Christ was the messiah. Anyway, these people worshiped gods different gods and pan was one of the gods, but they also sacrificed their children, people, animals, and so it was really creepy. When we went to it and it just gave me an uneasiness. Well, watching just the clip of the Grammys was kind of gave me the same uneasiness.

"not shrine" Discussed on Schlereth and Evans

"Awesome. What is it? The 17th year he's done this now, where he goes. He does the whole circuit. East west shrine game. Now he's in Vegas this weekend for the shrine game. Now he's in mobile, Alabama will be Alabama. For the senior bowl, what Scott, what new scouting terms are out there? What new scouting terms are out there, and more importantly, he's an environment where teams have their scouts have their personnel. You know there's chatter going on. Let's see here in about the Broncos. Right. These will tell us next. You're gonna need a bigger part of each time for schlereth and Evans, big story of the day. Why is this that you're so? You're so. Big. You're slather thin Evans with this morning's biggest story in Denver sports. Big mistake, big, huge. We had to mobile Alabama. Sight of the senior bowl and that is where Cecil lammy is hunkered down for what does it see so the 17 straight year? Yeah, 17 years in a row, pretty much as long as I've known both of you. So real long time I've been coming here to mobile Alabama for the senior bowl, but it is glorious and I'm ready for a great day of practice. You know what? I'm kind of envious, not that I want to go, but I'm kind of envious because you are in your in your element, obviously, I want to know any new scouting terms that happen to be floating around, but give me one of the things about mobile or about Indianapolis or any of those places that you go to, you know, for the combine and all that stuff is all the rumors floating around. So what do you found out about the Broncos and this coaching search? What I found out is that Adam chapter knows something that we don't know like everyone is the biggest mystery here in mobile. It was the biggest mystery in Vegas over the weekend when I was out there talking to NFL types and just being around this county community like at first people were saying like, ah, the Broncos are being aggressive, right? Because the PR note came out and our buddies like cliffs and stuff were reporting. The Broncos will be aggressive when whoever turned it down or whatever they moved on. And that's the name started floating out. And then you're like, wait a second. What? Huh? Could they actually be considering these sort of shocking type of names? So everyone's just kind of waiting and wondering, but you highlight it, think. I mean, the thing about these things, I love the practice. I love the football. But this place is a hen house. That's all it is. If the hen house because all the scouts love to talk, they love to talk to each other, you love to hear the rumors and the rumblings behind the scenes stuff and right now everyone just kind of going wild guesses as to what Denver could actually do. So what's the vibe? What's the word on the street about Sean Payton? Sean Payton seems to be back in the target area of the Denver Broncos. That seems to be where the buzz is, but you're hearing all sorts of names. I know that Mike Shanahan has been a popular name to be floated out there by the fan base. So I think right now everyone just kind of throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks and we know it's great that you're not a lot gets out. I don't mind that actually really like that. It's different from the LA regime. Sorry, John. Or anyone in the building that all they did was just tell everybody everything. Like, you don't hear that. There's no leaks at all in this situation, but Sean Payton now went from probably not or maybe it's a thing. Oh, it looks like it's going to happen to know and then now I'm probably not. And now it's back to like, oh my God, could it actually happen? I think that's just where we're at in the cycle and people were saying maybe today is the day. I have no idea. But when I get out of practice I'm going to find out some more and certainly tonight when the cold pops that beats are flowing, there will be more rumors I'm sure flying around mobile. How much of a disadvantage of it is to not have a coach to not have your identity to not have that kind of partnership between coach and the scouts that are there for the Broncos right now to make sure you get the guys that the guys that fit what you want to do, how much of a disadvantage of the Broncos at. I think it's a big disadvantage. I'm going through my notes of players that I like from the shrine bowl. I'm going through my notes of players who I am looking forward to at the senior bowl. I don't own the damn team. I don't know what they want for blocking scheme or defensive scheme or anything like that. So like, yeah, I think it's a huge disadvantage because there are players. And as I look at my notes right now, I'm like, okay, the Broncos should like this guy, but doesn't even fit what they do. Does he fit their identity as they fit their system? We don't know. We don't know what their system is. And some players aren't to some specific. I'll give you an example. Agent Finley, the safety from all this, but I saw in Vegas. He's not standing player does great things. You know, so that type of player. He's not system specific, but there are certainly systems specific players who you get really excited about and then you go, oh wait, we don't have a coach. I have no idea what we're looking for. So I'm just kind of here to see who stands out and then hopefully the Broncos system, whoever that is, kind of fits some of these standout players that I'm seeing over the last week for these two all star games. So to piggyback on mark's question, do you get the sense? Is it business as usual for George Payton? And do you get any sense any whispers about has George Payton's power been neutered at all? Is he still the guy in charge? I want to ask you specifically, George Payton. What's your read on him? I think it's way better for George Payton this year. George Payton has an eye for talent. There's no doubt about that. But I'm not going to follow over myself because he found pats or tan. I really get an almost offended when people are like, but he found patser can't. Patrick panel is a freaking can't miss prospect, okay? I'll tell you who he did miss on Tariq walling. Why? Because he wanted to Larry and Turner arrow Tariq woolen went on to lead the league in interceptions. And arguably better than patser tan. I don't think he is, but still, that was a, you know, a myth to be sure that you could have got in the 5th round. Don't get me started on Montreal watching and Isaiah Pacheco's out there running wild for the chiefs to the Super Bowl and mantra Washington can't play like so you're making me day three mistakes. This is where you gotta find this talent. This is where last year and the coaching search and the behind the Broncos. Which was fantastically produced. I feel bad, you know, knocking it, but like, I don't need the behind the scenes. I don't need George pay towards the George Payton camp. You know what I mean? Like, I don't need that. I need George Peyton grinding cape. I mean, George Payton on the road scouting, looking for players. And that's where I think his eye for talent can come through even more this year because he doesn't have that distraction. Now, you mentioned power. Does he have the power? We don't know the head coach. So we don't know the influence necessary. But again, finding the talent. That's what he needs to do because talent comes through, single tell you. Guy, hey, maybe this guy doesn't fit everything. But he's super talented. Give me good football players. And my good football players will go be your good football players, regardless of scheme or system or fix. I still think it's a disadvantage, but I think it's an advantage for George is that he's able to do what he does best and not scout. Don't worry about the coaching hire. Go find the best players for this team because they need a lot. Okay, two things I'm interested in before we let you go. One, I want us to be able to create a scouting term while you're there and let's see if we can make it catch fire. I think elastic hips elastic hips might be might be the term. That's a good one, right? Guys got elastic hips. Okay, now the second one, this one's more serious. O line issues, we've had them. We haven't been able to fix them. Give me a sense of what kind of talent is out there because I've heard there's not a lot of can't miss first rounders in this draft, but as far as offensive linemen are concerned. So what's your take on the offensive lineman that are out there right now and do we have any fits here in Denver? Yeah, and the feds are in Denver. Osiris Torrance is the only guard that you would take. That's how I start with guard. Size Torrance is the best one, the Florida kid. And he's the best guard period. First rounder, I don't think he's even going to be there though. By the time the Broncos pick in this

Sacred sites see development on this week's AP Religion Roundup.

"Sacred sites see development on this week's AP religion roundup. A church reopens at ground zero and a Jordan River baptism site may soon see a new village. More than two decades after a tiny Greek Orthodox church in Lower Manhattan was destroyed in the September 11th attacks, that church is far grander replacement open to the public this week. Michael sorrows helped organize the new saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox church and shrine. The national shrine completes the Trinity at ground zero. You have the museum. You have the reflecting polls, but now faith has been restored to ground zero. Say Nicholas is in an elevated park overlooking the rebuilt trade centers memorial Plaza. Olga Pablo says it has been a long time coming. 21 years, a lot of hardships, a lot of ups and downs, but we finally made it. Meanwhile, another building project is being planned on the banks of the Jordan River near the traditional baptism side of Jesus. This is worried some who want to preserve the area's character. Samir murad tears the organization planning the development. The baptism site itself is a Unesco World Heritage protected site. And will remain in its pristine condition as it has done for the past 2000 years. The Jordanian government donated about 340 acres of land for the development of the area known as Bethany beyond the Jordan. Tradition says John the Baptist, baptized Jesus here in what became Christianity's third holiest site. Many modern day visitors Don white robes and immerse themselves in the sacred waters, the development work will kick off with a sustainable village near the historic site. Later stages will see the introduction of botanical gardens, a bird sanctuary, and a wellness center. Historian Ian torrhen says preservation in the midst of development is crucial. Part of the listing is to preserve the site in its wilderness state, not turn it into something which is over commercialized, but to retain its spirituality. I'm Walter ratliff.

"Herschel Walker faces fresh allegation of paying for an abortion. Islamic State claims attack on Iranian shrine. And UN says world emissions pledge will cause catastrophic climate breakdown. It's Thursday October 27th. I'm Anthony Davis. A mentally ill Republican U.S. Senate candidate who has said he opposes abortion with no exceptions faced fresh allegations on Wednesday from a second woman who said he pressured her to have an abortion and paid for the procedure after a 6 year relationship with him. Herschel Walker, who hopes to unseat democratic incumbent senator Raphael Warnock of Georgia in a November 8 election that could determine which party controls the Senate has already denied allegations from another woman who claims he paid for her to have an abortion in 2009 and that she later gave birth to one of his children. Neither woman has revealed her identity publicly, the first to come forward provided supporting documents to The Daily Beast, an online media outlet, including a check. The woman making the new claim identified only as Jane Doe spoke by phone to a news conference organized by attorney Gloria allred in Los Angeles. Albert said the woman had years of documents, including receipts and greetings cards, documenting her romantic relationship with walker from the late 1980s through the 1990s. She showed some of these at the news conference. Walker, who suffers from dissociative identity disorder, formerly known as multiple personality disorder, is a political novice endorsed by former president Donald Trump and claims to oppose abortion, including for rape, incest, or to protect the health or life of the mother. Walker has also faced allegations of domestic violence. The militant group Islamic State said it carried out an attack on a Shiite Muslim shrine in Iran on Wednesday, which killed 15 people, escalating tensions in a country reeling from a wave of protests and prompting warnings of a response from Tehran. Iranian officials said they had arrested a gunman who carried out the attack at the Shah Shira shrine in the city of Shiraz. State media blamed tech fury terrorists, a label Tehran uses for hardline Sunni Muslim militants like Islamic State. The group has claimed previous attacks in Iran, including deadly twin bombings in 2017, which targeted Iran's parliament and the tomb of the Islamic Republic's founder Ayatollah Khomeini. Wednesday's killing of Shiite pilgrims came on the same day that Iranian security forces clashed with increasingly strident protesters, marking the 40 day anniversary since the death in police custody of marsa amini, a 22 year old Kurdish woman. The attack in Shiraz took place at the end of a day of confrontations across the country between security forces and protesters with video footage showing some of the most violent clashes in more than a month of unrest following Amin's death. The demonstrations have become one of the boldest challenges to the clerical leadership since the 1979 revolution. A wide range of Iranians have come out onto the streets with some calling for the downfall of the Islamic Republic and the death of supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Pledges to cut greenhouse gas emissions will lead to global heating of 2.5° centigrade, a level that would condemn the world to catastrophic climate breakdown, according to the United Nations. Only a handful of countries have strengthened their commitment substantially in the last year, despite having promised to do so at the cop 26 UN climate summit in Glasgow last November. Much deeper cuts are needed to limit temperature rises to 1.5° centigrade above pre industrial levels, which would avoid the worst of the ravages of extreme weather. The plans for emissions cuts countries submitted in Glasgow were inadequate to meet the 1.5 centigrade goal, so they agreed a ratchet mechanism to toughen their targets year on year. However, few governments have updated their plans on emissions in line with 1.5 centigrade. The UN calculated on Wednesday that the plan submitted by governments would lead to a temperature rise of between 2.1 centigrade and 2.9 with the best estimate around two and a half. This represents a marginal improvement on the 2.7 centigrade temperature rise that would have followed from the commitments made at Glasgow. Australia made a significant improvement to its national plan, but only 24 countries have submitted new national plans, known as nationally determined contributions or NDCs since cop 26. Many of those countries, including the UK and Egypt, host of the cop 27 summit that starts in just over a week, submitted new NDCs that were not substantially stronger than their previous plans. The NDC synthesis report showed that current NDCs would lead to an increase in emissions of about 10.6% by 2030 compared with 2010 levels, but the intergovernmental panel on climate change has estimated that greenhouse gas emissions need to fall by about 45% by 2030 compared with 2010 levels to give the world a chance of staying within 1.5 centigrade. It's rhetoric, more fiery. So these war games are back as the U.S. and South Korea practice how to fight their common enemy. They might have the appearance of war, but the U.S. and South Korea insist these drills are defensive, in part a show of strength to convince North Korea never to use its weapons. These war games may well provoke North Korea, but faced with an increasingly formidable enemy, these forces believe they have no choice but to prepare. That's going to be something that I'm going to continue to monitor. I know they resigned Carl Davis right before the draft. I didn't really think that was going to be anything any precursor to what they were going to do in the draft and it probably wasn't, but maybe they really like Carl Davis. They obviously like God Shaw. I just don't really see gotcha as an ideal three, four odd front nose tackle, right, a guy that's completely yeah, right over the center. So that was the one thing that maybe your revision is history. I was like, this was a good interior line class and especially at two gapping nose tackles. It's just an interesting situation that they didn't take one of those guys or even sign one of those guys. I was told that they weren't even remotely interested in Mark one, which I just find extremely shocking that they didn't even give a give it a call and see if maybe they could bring them in as a UDF a yeah, that is a little surprising they do have a history with weight guys if the name Josh Augusta rings a bell because ten years ago at this point. But no, I thought and especially when they've gone so heavy on the defensive line the last couple of drafts, it was becoming a trend. I thought there were a number of guys that were fits for them. Perry on Winfrey falls all the way to day three was a guy who thought maybe on day three they'd move up and get, they had all those picks. Yeah, I agree with you. I'm more surprised that they didn't go with a defensive lineman that I am that they didn't.

"Well, developmental tackles can go at the end of the first round. Tyler Smith, right when at the end of the first round, we talked about Bernard Raymond possibly going in that range. It would make a lot more. If they saw him as a tackle that pic makes a ton more sense. Yeah. I can hear the argument for it certainly, and it'll be interesting to see when we get out there, even set out TAs at the end of the month when we're allowed in. If he is working out at tackle it all and if they do move him outside, all right, one last thing here and then we're going to wrap it Mack Wilson spoke earlier today. I think one of the bigger topics that was brought up with him and he mentioned the confidence in the linebacker room and how he thinks that they have a lot of really good guys. Obviously, what else is he going to say? He's not going to say they are staying. But the fact that the patrons didn't draft linebacker, it is really interesting. Obviously I think Mack Wilson is a big part of that. I feel like he was a pseudo draft picker acquisition whatever way you want to look at it. They certainly are treating Cameron Macron like he is an additional draft pick to this rookie class after he read shirted last year. So how do you, how do we feel? What's our temperature about the fact that they stayed away from linebacker and this is the group that they're going to roll with and then maybe as a domino effect also playing guys like jabril peppers Adrian Phillips Kyle Duggar. A lot of those guys are going to play a lot of reps in the box. It seems like so I guess that's a two part question, but we can answer both of them. Yeah, again, I think they light their linebacker group and look, they have drew on Bentley for early downs. Like that, we'll see what happens with Hightower. He can come back to, but they have their own stopping linebacker. It's who's going to play next to him. Who's going to be the smaller quicker slot on the side of the guy that they just didn't have last year period. And I think between Cameron mccrone, who they seem to like the best, but I think between Cameron McGraw, ray kwon McMillan, and all throw Therese Holland. I know, you know, people talk about those first two. I really liked what I saw from Torres hall in 2020..

"He still has to get a little bit better there and show some of that. One on one pass rush ability, especially as a full rusher at the east west shrine bowl, but needs to kind of develop that part of his game. But as an impact run defender, really, really impressive. We saw quitting mohana a year ago going to 6th round. I think most scouts would agree that Mark one looks better on film as faster than Quentin did two years ago. And I think getting a guy who's that big that has high character that has a really high motive for a guy that size really, really important for Mark one, always plays with a high motor and can really impact the run game as a zero or one tech. Ferris price wasn't drafted. I think you'll have a chance to probably go somewhere. Hey, for no tackles, if you can be effective as a bigger guy and play zero or one, they don't care if you are a first round pick or undrafted guy. Those guys are very hard to find. I have a good feel that Mark one McCall is going to make good being an address of free range for sub team. Yeah, again, a guy we really liked. I think the viewers and listeners to the show are familiar with. And then one other guy from your game who, again, we talked a lot about I talked a lot about, I kind of stumbled on him late in the process, but ended up being one of my favorite prospects in this draft was Dallas flowers. He's off to the colts, just what was your read on him? Oh, so much fun to watch. I remember watching him film the first time and I'm like, I'm not sure if this guy's a receiver, a running back, a safety a corner, character early, but he is explosive. And again, another surprise that he wasn't drafted because he tested very well. Very dynamic player can play some slack and play strong safety. Again, he was an impact returner at the college level as well too. When a guy who interviewed with a real chip on his shoulder. A lot of small school players have that chip, Dallas has a big chip. In a good way, but really wants to be special really wants to be great. And I'm actually happier that I'm surprised, but happier he went undrafted. I think he'll be a much better player in the NFL because he's going to want to prove every team run. You have the team outside of the colts that they should have drafted as well. So I think he's got a great chance for a long NFL future, but explosive dynamic versatile guy who was great at the shrine bowl, great in interviews, a lot to overcome by.

"With Jack Jones, it was a total opposite. They were all over Jack Jones the entire pre draft process. They had a top 30 visit with him. They visited him out in Tempe, and I'm sure that they talked to him at the shrine bowl as well. We know about some of the off field stuff, but what have, instead of harping on that kind of stuff, I want to talk about how you see him grow and mature since the transfer and all the things that went on with him early in his college career. No, I think the background that he issues at a USC are really important because he's been very open about those issues past. And if you get a chance to talk to Jack, he is one of the most organic authentic people you can meet. He's willing to own and say how he messed up in the Jack jealous kind of way he can because he knows he's grown from it. He's for all of his issues in the past. He's very confident of the man he is now. And I think the endorsements we receive from people at Arizona state and people at USC have dealt with them since made me really excited to have them at the shrine bowl and I think one of the big reasons that Jack opted to come to the triangle over all other all star games was because we had a robust interview process. Most all star games, 8, ten hours of interview time. We give NFL teams up to 24 hours of interview time with all of our players, meaning not only did every team talk to every guy, but teams like the Patriots got a long time to talk to Jack Jones in a structured environment. I think a lot of teams left the shrine bowl, we unfortunately, Jack got hurt early on, so on the field stuff wasn't there for him. But a lot of teams there felt really comfortable with Jack leaving the tribe bowl. They got just an interview him for ten, 15, 20, 30 minutes for some teams at the shrine, but basically got an NFL combine interview. I think Jack showed how authentic he is as a person and the growth he's at. On the field, it's easy to like. He's one of the best man cover corners in all of college football the last three years and certainly in this raft class of the upsides there to be an outside guy or a top end nickel. But I think teams want to make sure he can be a pro and if you talk to Jack again, you'll feel right away. Hey, this guy knows exactly who he is. He's grown a lot from what he was 18, 19 years old, and he's going to be a longtime NFL pro. And you got a chance to talk to him. The cornerback position, of course, it's so much about the mentality and you have to be so confident..

"And it costs them huge. Judgment, judgment is coming, but it's not going to be indiscriminate. And God is just and it's like nobody has ever suffered no relations have suffered because wicked individual or wicked people did something and they're authority to basically hurt innocent people. I'm not suggesting that doesn't happen. But the wrath of God has never once in history and never will in history ever fall on any one other than the intended recipients. The person who's been wicked. Right. Right. And so this brings us down to my final point on all of this. And that is, you know, there will be an accounting. Like we just read in genesis. That's right. There will be accounting for every drop of human blood that has ever been shed on this earth. But was not covered by the blood of Jesus Christ. If you repentance. So if you're out there and you are guilty of any of these things, I beg your repent. And if you are in a nation like America, who is guilty of these things, fall on your face, people. We need as an ecclesia as a group of individuals as a body of Christ to be on our face before God repenting about this. Absolutely. Absolutely. For the nation for the healing of the nation. Right. But make sure that if it's anything like this is in your life personally repent while you have time, absolutely. If you shed the blood except his blood. That's right. And if you know of it and you're quiet, that means it doesn't mean you have to have done it. Remember what the prophets had spoken of. If you have a, if you close your eyes to it, he's saying, if you remain silent in the presence of evil, he's going to set his face. So here's what you need to do, right? We should all feel remorse for our action of doing it and for our lack of action and supporting or speaking up against it. And maybe you're not able to verbally speak up against it. But find a organization that promotes life or something else that you can support and be actively engaging that because that's going to be an overflow of what should be in your heart. That's right. And this is a touchy topic. In America, there are great battle lines of just this topic alone. And there's a spiritual battle and then there are political battles and then there are even parties in different groups that are against each other. And the only reason why there's not a silver war engaging is that is just because all of our civil controls and police have not completely fallen apart. Just remember also, though, God doesn't miss a thing. And so this even goes down into the microcosm of your conversations with individuals. Right..

"A music lover of this particular genre. I started in directing music videos back in the day and I'm from Rhode Island. So those two things melding together were really interesting when I moved back to Rhode Island. I had a one year old and a three year old little girl and I woke up and I looked at the news that morning and I'm like someday I have to do this. I mean the station was 15 minutes down the road. Of course I wouldn't have been there. One year old three year old, one of the facts that rocked my world 65 kids lost one or both parents. As a father for father two, I was just like, again, chills. I'm going, this is all. That stuck with me. I'm like, because I think the only reason I didn't go is because it wasn't promoted. Well, I think Jack went on. Why? I don't know, you know, for 5 minutes, the night before, something. But whatever, it's not about me, but you know, there's a lot to this, but I think the answer to your question in general is that a small, especially Rhode Island, of all states, right? The smallest town in the smallest state in the smallest. Does anyone care? And without that big news cycle for the first week or so. So when I created this film, one of the motivations was that these stories are so important. When you meet these people on the screen on Sunday, and you understand who they are, the survivors, but the families. And it was a very tough, I don't want to say tough sell because Sel is not the word, but if we didn't package this story in something bigger, you know, with D and music as a whole. And Jack Russell, great white nominee, you know, back in 89, if the story wasn't packaged in something that was bigger and broader than just Rhode Island, it would wind up as a little Rhode Island story that would sit on the shelf, which is I think a lot of what's been happening over the years. So it was a little difficult to make people understand that, to get the story out of these people, Mike and sandy, who were in the tattoo parlor and Jimmy, you know, best friend of Mike, to get their stories out to the world. It had to be done in a certain way. Otherwise, it's a home movie. On local NBC and Rhode Island and that wasn't what I wanted to do. John, and that's one great point to the band and also the fact that it happened in Rhode Island. This would have happened in LA or New York. It would be a completely different story as well. John, I read killer killer show, gosh, 5, 6, 7 years ago. You did a lot of research about this tragedy. And what kind of attracted you to? Because like I said, your book is predating this documentary by years. Well, as David said, this was a tragedy of unprecedented scale in Rhode Island. And having worked on the civil case for 7 years, as that was wrapping up, I got the feeling that this will sound cocky, but I know more details about this tragedy than maybe anybody at this moment in time. And if it doesn't get memorialized in a book that has broader appeal that has readability like a narrative nonfiction, it'll get lost to memory. So I set about and spent three years in researching and writing this and hopefully packing to get in a way that's approachable wherever you are in the spectrum whether you're a hard rock fan or whether you appreciate the legal analysis and you're interested in the criminal and the social outcomes or just the human stories as David has embraced so well in his film. You know, we worked in kind of a complimentary mode here in that David looked to me and my book for factual and legal grounding and I just looked to him to use the magic of sound and sight to tell a story and tell a human interest story and tell him riveting story. Different from the book, but grounded in the facts of the book. Well, let's kind of go into what went down there and then kind of delve into some of the reasons why because it is.

"Don't have time to share the knowledge. You've accumulated in over a decade tracking this stuff. But i i want to be a value to those that. Have an interest especially given the decision in In kabul with regards to surrendering afghanistan. Talk to us. Give it a little bit of clarity on the biggest moving parts of the threat environment. Explain to us the difference. The relationship and the competing interests of al-qaeda. So where's al qaeda to day. And how it compares with isis and this isis k. And then where does the taliban fit in. Well it will leave. The shia will leave new shrine and iran for a second told us about the three big pieces of of of suny terrorism today. Yeah absolutely. I'm gonna just take a real quick second to take a broad look at this. When president biden said the threat has basically metastasized and spread to other areas. He's absolutely greg. This is the failure of our efforts. Post nine eleven. Because pre-nine eleven the taliban the taliban hosted al qaeda and that was the main base for al-qaeda that's where they operated openly and ran training camps and whatnot and the operated cellular level. Now it's spread out. And there's these insurgencies are the lifeblood of the jihad. They use this the safe haven that exist pre-nine eleven in afghanistan afghanistan today to take the fight to to they want to establish their local emirates. Build a caliph it and then take the fight to watch. That's all part of their strategy today. Today that's threat has metastasized across the globe. But that is the reason to surrender afghanistan and in afghanistan today now the taliban greens the country l. Qaeda is it's primarily al-qaeda played a major role in the taliban offensive. It's not advertised. But i i have to go into detail and spend do conversation on how al qaeda played a major role in this offensive behind the scenes. You'll just have to take my so so so. This is very important that al qaeda was was an important part of the taliban recapturing afghanistan. That's what you're saying. Well yeah absolutely. The misconception about al qaeda and even the islamic state is that there are solely focused on conducting attacks here in the united states. That's a tactic. that's something they hope to do. Something they wanna do to to break our will punish us. But how did they achieve that. At that by gathering recruits training because remember the real goes established global galvin. John Lovell on Misconceptions of Liberty

"Can you explain to our list. Maybe those who've been misguided or just on schooled in the things that you have been schooled in that true liberty. True freedom comes from freely choosing to do the right thing not doing whatever you want. That's great really. You know. And i know and all your listeners know you are the more qualified to answer that professor gorka. I would rather hear yours. But it's your show and you asked me so i will. They can't get enough three hours of me. And then an hour on sunday on newsmax so this is your moment to shrines john level. No pressure feels the field. Marshall so i love what our country stands for and unlike the anarchist. I do believe that we live in a country of laws. That's a knife that can way. Sometimes it works kind of against my interest sometimes away from it but i think what i cleave to more than anything as a patriot as a freedom. Loving individual is our constitution in our constitution is a government recognizing that we have been given god given natural rights and since their natural rights not government given rights. That means the government can't take them away. And our constitution is recognizing that we have the inherent right from god not from government but from god which supersedes that we have the right to life liberty and the pursuit of happiness and you can't infringe upon that and so our constitution is a bold declaration. Its promises to the people from the government that will protect these rights. That are yours and we won't ever infringe upon them. My big contention now isn't that we have laws and i just want to run lawlessly through the streets with my hair on fire doing whatever i want. No we're we're a nation of laws. I just want us to stick to that. Freedom that essential Freedom that constitutionalism. That i would have the right to critique my leaders that i have the right to assemble peacefully in protest. They have the right to arms. That i can protect myself in. The government cannot restrict access to firearms or yours that i have religious liberties and the way i won't be bullied by my government and so those are the rights and so what i see is a baseline of freedom that is being dramatically eroded. We're losing first. And second amendment rights all just terrible erosion in those constitutional pillars which have stood for hundreds of years. Then now people don't see in its eroding in front of us. It's very alarming.

July 20, 1924: Tehran Declares Martial Law

"On july twentieth. Nineteen twenty four. Tehran authorities declared martial law after a mob killed an american consul. Major robert embry. The decision was designed to give the city a chance to regain order before an international crisis tore the nation. Apart leading up to the death. Iran had been a hotbed of foreign interest. The british had tried and failed to establish a protectorate over the nation. Meanwhile russia had recently vacated its stakes after their defeat in world war one. The newest foreign party to take an interest was the united states and they mainly wanted one thing oil. They pressured the iranian government into allowing oil tycoons to start drilling into the land when robert embryo was killed at the hands of an angry mob. All the foreign actors in the country started pointing fingers at each other. Tehran newspapers and russian authorities blamed the british for inciting muslims into a frenzy. Others blamed the russians who had expelled embry from moscow after he defended his anticommunist beliefs fellow american spy marguerite harrison who recently departed the near east while posing as a filmmaker claimed international intrigue was to blame but above all according to margarite. Chip Crisis in 'Danger Zone' as Wait Times Reach New Record

"Our lead story today is one of demand and supply in that order. The commodity in question is semiconductors. The demand as we'll explain is nearly universal the supply well it's lagging and more so every day bloomberg got its hands on some data from the susquehanna financial group that says if you order a chip today the aforementioned semiconductors you're going to have to wait seventeen weeks for it to be delivered. Four plus months that is to put it mildly no way to run a supply chain. And as marketplace's samantha field reports. It is doing damage to way more than cars or computers or smartphones. These days almost everything has a chip whether we think of it as high tech or not. If it has a plug or battery probably has chips in it glenn. O'donnell research director at forrester says that includes refrigerators video. Doorbells and light bulbs you can turn on with your phone and even lower tech things like kids toys because all the toys gotta talk now and they got to react and they have little motors right.
