"A lot of people when they come in they've either been walking around they've seen the site they've been sticking their head in kind of wondering what's going on when the shipping containers got put on site it really raised a lot of questions just to what is the space and frankly what we wanted this to be was that that space where everybody could come hang out have a drink grab a bite to eat talk to some friends wage act as a backyard atmosphere that a lot of people in Covington just don't have due to the site home sites and the nature of Covington's architecture. So when you come to coming to New York, you walk through a shipping container that was a one-time used shipping container from China and we repurposed it as our entry feature as you walk in. Then you see the artificial turf on site and we have multiple birth. Vendors that are available from lunch hours into the evening hours. Now those hours have been somewhat dynamic as we figure out the Kinks associated with operating a restaurant and a bar and a pandemic but our operating team on site has been able to kind of navigate some of those issues and they're starting to roll out lunch hours and the dinner has been consistent. Every time that The Yardbirds open. We have three food vendors open for dinner. That's Django tacos Yardbird chicken tenders and mr. Bulgogi Korean BBQ. We also have a fourth vendor that will be announcing soon that will open first week in November. So we're looking forward to having four different food options for people on a regular basis as well as being able to enjoy the outdoor atmosphere TVs music live bands that kind of thing, you know, this concept is new for Covington, but not new overall. This is you know, a lot of cities have been going to these kind of like outdoor Food Hall type situations. Yeah, and that's frankly we didn't come up with this idea. We certainly plagiarize dead. Other locations around the world. So we were just happy to be able to bring something unique and interesting into that Covington area to engage some of the vacant and blighted storefronts that we had in this this track season and it's gone over well so far people seem to enjoy the the socially distanced atmosphere that we're able to provide and we hope to continue that in the winter as we add heater in tenting options that will allow for people to still be able to be outside still be able to be socially distant but venture out and get some of that Community bonding that people are needing at this point. What's your goal? Where do you see Covington yard in the future? You know, hopefully we just have a consistent group of people that like to come here. They hang out and really treated their own backyard at the onset of this. We had intended to host birthday parties wedding events and different types of events that you would typically have at a large venue, but that wage Has been challenging in the pandemic. So we've not taken event requests. We are filing people's names so that if the pandemic does lift and were able to hold larger events we can kind of regroup on that that front page but what where we really hope to take this is to to be a staple for the Covington Northern Kentucky Greater Cincinnati community that you can come down and be the starting point or the editing point for your night out on the town. So our position located in between the new music venue across from the banks next to the the Braxton Hotel Covington area the main store Osteria, it really gives us the opportunity to be a strong point or ending points of people's nights as they go out and enjoy the town and dog friendly and family-friendly During certain hours as well. Absolutely. So the the turf that we installed is pet friendly Turf Club and you're welcome to bring your Pooch as long as long as they have leashes and they're well-behaved. Of course the same goes for the kids yet leashes and well-behaved with make sure of that so we know we look forward to it I had Young children myself and it's great to bring them here. You know, they have different food options. There's mocktails, even for the kids that they could have non-alcoholic drinks that they can experience team and they'll be different programming events. As we continue. The the opening will have different programming that's geared around the children and families as well. Excellent Josh. Thanks so much. And again one of the chamber's newest member, so we certainly want to introduce you to Covington yard. So check them out for different food vendors. And of course, I mean what place in Greater Cincinnati would be a place without a little bit of adult beverages as well. So that's the latest from here in Covington yard stick with is though the Northern Kentucky Spotlight will be right back your Northern Kentucky chamber saved you money. "Next Monday, that would be great. And st. Elizabeth they continued age. To innovate so they have the implanted the first device of its kind in the country. So this is really cool. And I'm going to try really hard not to mess this up cuz it's it's got all kinds of medical language. I like the mispronounced but it's they implanted the first bluetooth enabled part by ventricular defibrillator you go. There we go. Got it the new device just recently got FDA approval and the devices for risk of life-threatening heart rhythm problems and the communications with the pain patients and the doctors through an app. So it uses the Bluetooth just life. Your headphones are your airpods used to communicate with that phone so you can get the data like in real time that's amazing and and it makes it so much easier for the patient not to have to like a corded her call in and have them like find your your your device and all of that and also obviously helps those positions as well. I love this song cuz I don't know if you've seen the floor and she'll water tower recently It Off. Like are they painting over Florence? Y'all people who are freaked out the answer is yes, and no. Okay. So yes, they're they're painting over it but they're painting over it and it's going to look exactly the same but just better so it's basically getting a little makeover. Okay. So the city promises that's going to be back to its former glory don't you don't you fret they named the Florence y'all after that water tower. It's not going anywhere but mid-november. You should see it back in it. So are they change in the fight? Are they going to I don't know. What a great question. They I know from a designer perspective. I know it's a it's a very basic simple font and they, you know, looks like they tried to kind of cover up the what they used to say mall but they actually changed it but I mean it would pain me if if they changed it to like some kind of like script font, you know, it's Gotta Stay that bloggers asking is it going to look like the y'all's logo off then you're back to square one. The reason they couldn't put Florence Mall on it was because it was a business with y'all's is a business. So yeah it it'll probably I know it's a great question as a font person off. Like to know this we need to call me or Waylon and finds out. Oh, this is a great one for all the kids out. There. Scuba. Santa is coming back to Newport Aquarium. It's the 18th year scheme has been celebrating the holidays at the aquarium. He will be there everyday for from November 27th and every day through December 24th. Guess we'll be able to tell excuse me what they want for Christmas while he swims with the tank full of sharks. Everybody loves scuba Santa. It's just like one of those cool Northern Kentucky things like, you know, you can go see Santa scuba dive with sharks. Um, and there will be taking taking covid-19 precautions there. So the capacity is limited and you have to buy tickets in advance. So be sure to go to their website and check that out and get there and get all those those requests for Christmas. You got it. Exactly. That would be a perfect Christmas little activity. All right, Jeremy you have had a busy week or so and a couple more busy weeks to come. Let's get to that shame around up, So our last week we had our women's initiative Regional Summit sponsored by PNC. It is really really really great event that they do every year on this is the third year that they've done it off. They have Keynotes and they have some really great speakers and breakout sessions and some networking this year. Obviously we had to do it a little bit differently mainly completely virtual so we can't be in person. We can't have that many people in a room together. So we utilized a new platform called you let me events from one of our favorite podcast guests to me and it would it's a really cool technology it we had a little bumps beginning but we ironed everything out and had a really great event last week. We're we've got all the talks and stuff were recorded and captured so we can share it out to if you missed it off. We can still get those out to you. Then. Our next huge event coming up is our annual celebration. It was our annual dinner in September is moved to November 12th. It will be at lunch time. So, you know, we figure that since it's going to be virtual. We didn't want people spending time. You know, it's one thing to bring your wife out to a nice dinner or wife or husband or significant other or friends or business colleagues out to a really fancy nice dinner and big award show and spent a few hours at that, but we moved it to lunch time. So that way people can do it during the workday and we know that everyone's are not everyone but most people have something else going on. You've got the kids, right? You've got everything that goes along with this the craziness of the pandemic so we moved it to lunch time spot so you can register for that by off by Chambers, slash events and get get yourself registered. We have a free option where you can just attend the the Facebook live, but then we also have options for networking and then we have this really cool. Will option where you could support a restaurant locally a chamber member? Yeah, so you it's different tier levels instead of free for the one and it's about $15 for the networking and then like 40 for the with the restaurant and then that 20 that extra $25 go straight to that restaurant and then you get a a gift card. So then you can pay for your luggage for that event during that you're you're supporting a chamber member and it's it's really about giving back to the community trying to to help out some of these restaurants that have been really really hit hard by a pandemic and and it's going to get even worse for them as they have to move everything inside and close on our side as we get cold. Well, we look forward to that annual celebration and speaking of heading outside coming up. Not only are we going to hear from Covington yard, you are going to get a sneak peek a look inside Covington yard live an interview their site. It's gorgeous. Interesting. It's it's a really cool place and you're about to see it coming up. So stay with us on the Northern Kentucky spotlight. Well coming in yardage the newest members of the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce and we decided to come down and talk to the folks here about this place and what you can expect if you haven't been there so Josh niederhelman is the principle of Cub core and he's also am from Covington yard. First of all, this place is amazing. You've got to be excited that it's finally open. Oh, absolutely. We're you know, we're really excited for the neighborhood. I live in the neighborhood and Covington and we're really looking forward to having not Their opportunity to to visit and come outside gather with the community, but the challenge was certainly the yeah. We are opening a community Gathering space in the middle of a pandemic. So this project actually start well before the pandemic and that was something that actually threw us a curve ball as the pandemic hit we had to figure out how to make things socially distant and how to accommodate the new rules and regulations to keep everybody safe choice. We look around here. There's lots of space to be had lots of room around and I know a lot of people feel very comfortable or more comfortable being outside than inside right. Now. How many can you accommodate and how the crowds been so far off? The crowds have been great and everybody's been really good about wearing masks and being socially distant majority of our space is outside. We can seat up to 165 under the current rules with having a seat for service pre pandemic were able to see four hundred fifty people capacity into the into the space. So it's not nearly at capacity. We hope obviously when the pandemic lifts that sometime in the spring home. We will be able to get back to normal and that way we'll be able to get a lot more people into experience Covington yard. Let's explain how this works because you've got individual food vendors and drinks and all that good stuff. Yeah. So.

"I can learn more and start your next adventure at CVG Airport, Welcome back to the Northern Kentucky Spotlight as we approach especially the end of the year and seasonal jobs. And Beyond, you know what people are looking for work. And so there's a an organization doing something a little bit different as far as looking for work, especially if you're the one looking for work right now with Tom pleasure from gentle Solutions and Tom. Thank you so much for joining us today. Well, thank you for inviting me. I think we have we have something important to share that's right off. But let's start right there. You say the gentle Solutions has a a different way a different method of hiring or helping someone get hired explain what that is and how it helps both the employer and the employee go back. I don't know how many decades we've been using the current process but people applied for jobs by listing their experience on a resume or a portfolio and turning it into a perspective employer whose look at piles of paper and pick who they want to talk with we decided with the technology that's available. Bill today, why not update that process and do it with video where a candidate whose applying for a role can talk specifically about how their experience relates to a job that is being advertised. It's much more powerful tool than a resume from the applicants standpoint. It gives them a chance to sell themselves as a like a first-round interview, but at the same time if you're the hiring manager you no longer have to look through a hundred resumes to find the handful of people you really want to talk with you can skim through our video game review resumes in a few minutes and see hey I like how that person sounds like, they'd be a good cultural fit for our team. I'm going to bring them in for a face-to-face or do a zoom call them is is now becoming even more common but it's so powerful and so easy. So you've been dealing with this now with from those looking for jobs and the companies who are dead. For good employees. What's the reaction on both ends when presented with this video solution? When we've been doing this for five years now and initially there was some reluctance on the part cuz back in 2015. There was not a lot of video activity like this month and it seemed the younger candidates were more receptive to it cuz they were FaceTiming their friends or playing video games and they were much more familiar with using technology in all aspects of their life. But some of the more seasoned workers were a little reluctant. They didn't think they would look good on camera. They they were nervous and thought so we prep the people now when we get them ready to do these interviews, we we help them get ready and calm them down so that it's not a big deal. We wash them to really show off and talk about their skills and experience. You mentioned how we're all on Zoom or Microsoft teams or whatever. It may be. Do you think that's made it a little easier right now over these last six months for people to go..

"I'm to the Northern Kentucky Spotlight. Thank you. Once again for joining us here as we approached really big big news about the election. We're going to talk about that all coming your way ahead in California Road. Thank you so much for joining us and as always or the last couple of weeks. We're joined by of course, Jeremy Schram the brains behind the operation over there the director of marketing over there at the Northern Kentucky chamber and Kristoff Baldwin vice president of public affairs and Communications from the chamber. We appreciate you joining us today Kristen. Thanks for having me. All right, so we are going to start things off by talking about what the top of everyone's mind right now and it is a big day tomorrow early voting starts in Northern Kentucky. It's right Catherine early voting starts tomorrow and millions hockey that's right away from election day, but kind of lets backstop a little bit about where we've come and the last couple of years about absentee voting and drop boxes. So the absentee deadline state of Kentucky to request an absentee ballot ended on Friday and Friday at 5:00 and Or six hundred and fifty seven thousand kentuckians requested there about that's about 8% of all registered voters pretty impressive. What does that mean though? As far as I know a lot of people are very concerned about like, how does this do? We want to mail it in do we want to bring it actually to a Dropbox or to where it needs to be counted what tell us about that process? Yep. So the state of Kentucky we took off or drop box locations will be numerous Drop Box locations across each County. You can check out where they're located at vote in KY, we have a broken down by County to where that Drop Box location is summer. Summer outside so you can access those 24/7 but that definitely is an option for seeing this year. So now like so we got the drop boxes and and all these like mailing ballots and we said early voting starts tomorrow how to how.

"Well, you would not believe the number of patients that I see that are looking to this is kind of a beacon there. They want to be part of this they feel part of life. So, you know when I speak about this, I always talk about all the cancer Fighters everyone in this building is so pumped to be able to deliver this to the people who need it and and you know, I think about myself as a cancer survivor the stress of the diagnosis the stress of that first couple of weeks uncertainty and the discomfort emotionally that comes with that. I know now that we can walk a patient downstairs after a tough talk and immediately walk into a cancer Family Care office for a private counselor who can help give the patient tools to do with that. And so when I look at the people who are going to enter the system and to the center for first time probably just going to hang out in the lobby for first week so I can watch people walk into that Atrium and see what we've now got in our community for all of us that need this kind of care. And you know, obviously we want fewer people to get that cancer diagnosis and to have as few people as possible in this brand-new cancer center. But but Kerry from the community's perspective and the The Business Leaders that you speak with when you know looking at this and knowing what a difference a Cancer Center like this is going to make what is their reaction when they hear about this again this world-class send-off opening. Well, what what Doug and I've been doing, you know through covet since oh probably the last four or five months is every Wednesday. We've been allowed to take a few people through to tour package and as it's as it's come together, you know, it's just been amazing to see it. Aesthetically. It's beautiful it truly it is beautiful. But what is going to happen? I mean, it's just it's it's obvious, you know the efficiency of care and the way it was all put together. It's just I mean, it's really it's just it's so it's it's it's a warm bath Writing space and it just just it's there's so much care in every detail. So that's been really exciting to show our major donors. But what's what's not going to be even more exciting is you know, now that their patients coming through the doors is to show that impact, you know, they've made that initial investment that you know took a bit but Doug and I just shared us as part of a vision but now the exciting part for us is this vision becoming a reality and to be able to share that impact with them and you know, the patient testimonials. I know Christy Nelson. I don't know if you know Christy but she is she's the co-chair of the cancer center campaign and she was one of the one people that we came we toured through and thought she was emotional. I mean to see it all put together and just to know that this level of care was now available in her own Community if it truly made her emotional so it obvious off. We're thrilled that it's here in Northern Kentucky. But doctor Florida, they're Kentucky in general with cancer rates. It is at a point that among the nation's worst..

"Giant Yoga Studio in gym for Rehab to train rebuild you after we break you down sometimes with chemotherapy or surgery or radiation. So usually tried to attend to the things that let our patients recognize all the things that they can do and we're really going to be optimistic about this because all too often when you get a diagnosis of cancer. It's about all the things that you can't do and Thursday. Is not going to be that kind of place for both of you. Why is it important that this sort of world-class Center is here in Northern, Kentucky. I guess I'll speak as the medical doctor so all too often. We have these patients in these desperate and terrifying situations and and it's frustrating as the caretaker to know that care is fragmented across three or four or five different offices or centers and it's a different place to get your scan than it is to get a port put in than it is to see a doctor that gives chemo or operates or radiation. This is all in one roof now and that's what patients deserve will tell you that the other frustration for me is having to send people out of system for subspecialist care or care that we have not previously been able to offer and and we've really we've gotten after that the last two years. So we've hired a bunch of researchers, we built up our clinical trial infrastructure and I feel like the care that we can now deliver in Northern Kentucky is that the patients have always deserved Catherine Catherine also, you know that you don't have to travel you don't have to travel for this level of care. Now. You don't have to travel away from your family and your friends and your support system that you know, you can you can be here and receive that same kind of care that you felt before like you had to leave to get doctor floor. You've been you know in on this and am seeing a lot of the details from the very beginning. What are you most looking forward to during this grand opening season?.

"Round. Wow, that's great to hear I'm sure a lot of new business have to be really excited to hear more about that. Right. What we want them to do is get excited about it and instead of just ten applying, we like to have them all apply and the make sure that that they go through the process of filling out the forms and stuff, and hopefully that will adjust it and maybe we'll give more than. Five thousand and next round because there's no rules on the five thousand, we set the five thousand for the first round because we didn't have those expenses like others is or or giving up to twenty, five, hundred or less. So since we don't have such expenses and we believe we would rather keep the money in the city of union than having back to the state because the program lasts until the end of the year. Hopefully, some city, some of the local businesses in the city are listening in here that the process easy in the city is happy to help, and we'll look into applying the second round or like you said maybe third-round and that's That's a lot of good money out there for them. Yeah. Certainly, this is going to continue for a little while longer. So why not what I'd rather have it in the city then go back to the state YEP. Exactly. With that near Sam I think that's unfortunate. All the time we have. A chance to talk about the small business grant and definitely something of the Chamber we've been watching since it started in we we hope to see more cities offering this kind of help but certainly a lot of excitement going forward to to see what the city of unions able to do to continue helping businesses through this time So with that, I will thank you mayor Solomon for joining us again today telling us without union and I'll turn it back to you Jeremy. Thanks. And Welcome back to the Northern Kentucky spotlight we want to thank you once again for joining us remember hit subscribe hit share on this. "Their space. Let's talk about this correlation between the two of you and Meghan explained what Doris is. So Doris research is a workplace we research firm. So what we do is we go into organizations and we help them figure out fuzzy situations and a really broad concept for so we do this via research though so we're a data driven company we have qualitative and quantitative researchers. So I'm a statistician by trade, but we have designed researchers as well, and we go through a design thinking process to really engage and beast people centered and make sure that whatever solutions that come out of this process are tailored toward the organization. It's interesting. This is you design is a creative field, and now you're kind of making it into like a Decision kind of thing. So it's combining that left and It really and bringing those together. So yes, talk about what what what have you guys been doing this collaborative study that you too have been doing together and what are you learning? Yes. So denny actually went to doors and You know we think of ourselves as thought. And we WANNA be at the forefront of of what this is. You know we're we're trying to answer the big question what happens next after this post pandemic what happens So we knew you might have heard like a lot of people say, okay. The office as a thing of the past, but then everyone is having these isolation issues at home. I just read a study about creativity in the work place and we're missing out on those spontaneous interactions that occur that that. Get us get our juices flowing gets US creative. So, we're partnering with Doris on a collaboration study and I think, Megan. Maybe you can give a little bit more detail about what that entails. Yes, sir. Denny Cam to us and said, let's figure out how to really research this with a data driven format and let's look at it differently So we've done some surveys and we've heard and seen the data that saying people are feeling isolated but they also feel productive at home, and so we were really thinking let's dive deeper and so what we've done is we've invited sixteen organizations, five individuals from each organization organization at different levels. So leadership middle-management individual contributors both working from home and from the office and there. Are some organizations that are both hybrid and what we've done we've interviewed them and also asked them to record all of their collaborative encounters on an APP to really dig into the types of collaboration whereas creativity happening is strategy happening how is it happening and then to use that to really think about what does this look like in the future of space and in the future of business we might be productive. But where where are the business drivers behind all of this? What are you finding? What are those? Folks that you're consulting with what are they telling you? Yes. So right now we're in the middle of data collection closes. Tomorrow is tomorrow Friday now today's Wednesday I don't even know. What happens? So it closes on Friday so the quantity I haven't looked at quite yet. So I can tell you though a little bit of about the qualitative data and and we're hearing which really interesting as people They feel productive when they can cross something off of a list right but they also feel a little bit of. Letsie respite or There's an element of stress reduction that happens when you have those spontaneous encounters at the office where you stop by and you maybe talk about Labor Day weekend but then you also can get something done for a project. Oh. Hey good to see you. How is your we he kind? Oh and do you have so and so's phone number I really need to reach out to them or whatever that is, and so it some of that that Camaraderie and the culture building that I think were seeing needs to happen or as most cultivated in the office. It is interesting and Kate. You mentioned it like bing about what the office looks like you know an and what it might look like moving forward especially for someone who's who's you know a company that's been around for so long dealing specifically business interiors this has to be another kind of. Brainstorming event for you guys as well like thinking through issues and problems and solutions to those problems. Yeah. I really think you know it's it's going to be an eye opening thing I this study and what we gather from it I also think this is a great opportunity for us. You know we've worked the same way for so many years This is really going to be an opportunity that we can create whatever it needs to be you know going forward. And we look forward to that and I ask you guys for a fun fact and Kate I. Love Your Fun fact involved cookies. Please tell us all US. So, RJ business interiors is all about hugging your customer we. Have a book that we have to read. It's called Hunker Customer I've Jack Mitchell when you get hired on and part of that is just the little things that you do every day for your customers and one of them is warm cookies. So we haven't Otis Spunk Meyer Oven in our office, and we popped cookies n when our customers come and have a fresh and warm for you. The suddenly everyone wants an in person meeting I, get it. Welcome back to the Northern Kentucky spotlight and right now we're shining that spotlight on high school sports and beyond, and you probably know the face, and if not, you definitely know the voice of our guests Tom. Gamble of in Game Sports Tom Thank. You so much for joining us today Gavin. When be your hopefully they know the voice more than you know the space. There's a reason why most of my career spin the audio media so this this new technology which includes video might be writing issue. Yeah. You guys are pretty extensive on facebook live and we'll get to that coming up in just a little bit I i. know we just finished the first weekend of high school football specifically in other words well here in in Northern Kentucky? Let's talk about what happened and what we can look forward to. We'll Catherine I. Think Anybody who follows high school sports or is involved with high school sports in any capacity which company is with knowing that coaches and seeing all the work of athletic directors knowing what kids I have a my youngest sons member, the Cooper high school cyber program seeing what they went through knowing last spring. How not ending a spring sports help rule that was I'm just real back. Kentucky. COBB brought up the rear I was Indiana that got started then Ohio and last week the first week of the full context for to that look things are different. It's not kin ourselves protocol with the capacity. To get in and out of games and even some of the sports with they're asking. Cross country, which would seemingly be one who take would be kind of business as usual is far from that. So I just have to look at it as most people involved and say, we're just thankful that radio and play and I think the one thing I've heard from most people coaches in particular are let's say one time you know we're glad started. Now let's just hope we can continue with finishing I would echo that same sentiment. You mentioned I in Games boards in its affiliation with High School Sports Tell us what you guys do for those of us who don't know. wrote thank yet we been around. This is a year-old loud. So previously was with a copy died Schumacher associates in Cincinnati twenty three years ago starting with still today's longest running high school football showcase in America, it's called the Skyline Chili crosstown showdown and skylines title sponsors. Since Day one, it was designed really showcase the Cooley high football. Greater, Cincinnati Kentucky Southeast Indiana, and we're twenty three year strong. We had boars kind of the way we did it because we used to play games at UC's stadium than the incident leg got involved with some rules there. But I've done a lot of other stuff to the blitz fine tailgate. My company ran that for ears on now heavily involved with saint was healthcare to their sports marketing sports medicine or don't sportsmed sports morphine promotion initiatives. We've created a number of different things like the n que wise which was. Virtual this year, which was taken after the SP's recognizing great achievement Northern Kentucky? High. School Sports with Lisbeth Health your month respond to the All star series there the title sponsor of the Ninth Regent tournaments are run the reds high school showcase also sponsored by skyline showing didn't happen this spring. This would have been year number nine. So we're involved with a lot of high school sports events, which as you know, this year has been challenging for events. That's what we do involve in Greater Cincinnati Northern Kentucky and Southeastern Indiana. You mentioned two industries there that have really been hit hard by the pandemic events and Sports, and so for your company what is this looked like a kind of having to pivot a little bit during all of this well, let's pitch putting you kindly. We hoped I think like everybody else sought. So we had our announcement of the high school showcase on. March twelfth the same day. Off Instability Tournament started to cancel Games I should say conference tournaments any incident turning was washed out then baseball and everything else. So we've been kind of waiting and you know you have to make we was going to happen, but we've really had to do to be brutally honest isn't about two weeks we've been doing two weeks we normally with two to three months and that's because I just. Guess behind the scenes that contingency plans, but you didn't want it to do too much because I can tell the schedule. What's GonNa, get along now. So we got a lot more digital be doing a lot at art show. On Twitter X. Town showdown. So we do a lot leading up to the Games in game every Friday night, we are coaches players I go out and do spend a lot of launch. Nice to get out. So. We replaced a lot of Kinda congregate mask gathering activities like tailgates at Sarah Lasso kind of giveaways on Friday nights with a lot of digital promotion. So to use your word pin, you have to I mean that's what we've had to do to still be able to feed your highlight showcase, the school's student athletes. That's what we try to do, and it isn't exactly how it would have done it previously but we're making adjustments accordingly trying to be not invasive because look this has been on athletic director. You know if you have a situation that's happening as somewhere you can refer to the manual as they say, there's no manual for. And there is no pandemic to look back on a not old. You really feel because the stuff that they're being asked to do in some cases you could argue might seem ridiculous but everybody's trying to keep everyone healthy and safe and trying to do the right thing. So it's been tough and we just tried to sitting around that and yet still recognize the student athletes and all that they do. You you mentioned pivot and you yourself and your partner van has made a bit of a pivot to video mentioned that it's all tell us. We can find guys on this great facebook laggy. Do Ya they spent a lot of fun. You Know Fan my partner also knows Mike Walter we've been we did the morning show on ninety six throngs, five years and I was in sports talk he was really in rock radio creative programming side of things for a long time using Edna I was L. W.. ESPN fifteen, thirty and all over the place. So we got together and said, you know what we see where all this is headed. Let's do something on route. So the reality check Amblin Finn and we do that on Thursday nights when the reds are playing nine to midnight on seven hundred W W, we created out of that really our own show up call it large in the Lai. We do Mondays facebook live at Salmon, and then we created a house gas where you are in I house task we. Glad.

"Apply online. Like eighteen and have a high school degree, fifteen dollars per hour minimum, and the best part is you get benefits immediately. So great opportunity for more than a thousand people there. We heard Perfetti hiring last week. Yep hiring this week were northern. Kentucky is moving forward and this is another great one dollar general. They have a they are going to have like a big fulfillment center out in Walton and they're gonNA add two hundred and fifty more jobs and it's part of a sixty five million dollar investment The facility side is going to be six, hundred, thirty, thousand square foot and it's going to be out there also, I, seventy five and my kind of south of Kentucky Sixteen you kind of where a lot of those big facilities are and it's you know it's all due to our wonderful wonderful airport that we have here and. The world. That, we are becoming big investment in the area I. Know You're excited about this within the Florence y'alls the newly rebranded y'all started their season late last week and it's interesting because you know they're they're technically the Frontier League Frontier League like, no, we're not playing and the Florence y'all's we're gonNA figure this out y'all. So what they did was partner with the Lexington legends, and each of those teams split into two teams and they'll essentially play Inter and intra squad scrimmages between those teams or among those four teams over the course of the season. So what's cool about that is you can actually go to a game in person and hear and see baseball and people are very excited. They started last Friday they. It's limited capacity gotta wear masks unless you're seated. There's all kinds of scientists all over the stadium about social distancing and the like. But at the very least people are excited to get out and see an actual sporting events in person. The Housing is hot in Kentucky. You know it took a little bit of a little bit of a hit right at the beginning of all this because people were afraid to kind of get out and look at houses and do anything really so but in June the sales have come roaring back in June two, thousand twenty had thirteen percent more closings than June, twenty nineteen, which is crazy and really really really awesome. The number of homes available on the market hit a record low for the second month in a row they I know that there's some people that I'm friends with been trying to get into like Fort Mitchell Beach School district. It is not possible and like some of the neighbourhood houses that have gone for sale my neighborhood they're like gone like even realize they were for sale. Now, the average time it takes to sell your.

"Away everyone according clear here and I'm joined today by mayor any schauble mayor of the city of Alexandria. Some people may not know that it's the home to one of the county's two courthouses and I believe is one of the oldest cities in the county maybe northern, Kentucky not sure on the the ear, but it's also happens to my hometown. So the special place in my heart. So thank you to marry shovel for brain to chat today and tell us a little bit what's going on in the. EXCITED TO HER Well great while we'll start off with Kevin. Easy question. So what do you think are northern Kentucky's greatest assets. What might you say to someone who's thinking about relocating to Northern Kentucky but specifically Alexandria? A donkey and especially Alexandra is just a big community. You know that from growing up here everybody kind of knows everybody's related to somebody in it's just such a home town small town feel but you're also close to the major you know since the Cincinnati fifteen minutes to the south the you're in the middle of basically God's country with rolling hills, cows, fifteen minutes, North Year, downtown, Cincinnati. So city of Alexandria motto is where the city meets the country. That's that's truly how it is, and so it's it really is the best of both worlds with the cows and major sports teams as far as reds and Bengals, and such like that. Nine that's very well put. It. Didn't I didn't know this city's motto for Awhile. But growing up I would always when I tried to tell people about where I came from especially from other parts a state I always said I'm kind of on the suburban fringe they didn't live in a subdivision, but it's like five Manson, your deep division five minutes deep in the country. So it's really really is kind of straddling the two worlds in Well, I have to say so. So I've been seen a lot of development happening in Alexander's specifically with residential development in I know there's more to be planned as well. How do you anticipate this impacting transportation in the city education workforce all those important things right. We are growing leaps and bounds. We have arcadia subdivision. So over eleven hundred housing units just in that one subdivision by itself that's the size of some some of our cities in Campbell county basically We also have a three other active subdivisions going on, and so we're getting some traffic for sure on that, we're working with the Kentucky State of. Kentucky and sometimes we try and fix one issue. It just creates something else that we didn't anticipate but that we're figuring that out and trying to work hard on that as far as education goes I've been in contact with Dr Rust who's the Superintendent Campbell County schools he assures me they have plenty of space.

Should States Be Allowed To Declare Bankruptcy?

"Many states are facing severe financial shortfalls because of the corona virus outbreak several Republican leaders in Congress including Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell have suggested those states declare bankruptcy but federal law prevents states from doing that Kentucky public radio's Ryland Barton reports that McConnell's cash strapped home state is especially vulnerable Kentucky was struggling before the corona virus it's entered years of escalating budget cuts that go back to the two thousand eight financial collapse and now almost a third of the state's workforce has filed for unemployment this is led to a massive drop in income and sales tax collections which make up more than three quarters of the money Kentucky brings in every year democratic governor Andy Beshear is one of many governors who say they need more financial help from the federal government during the pandemic if the next Kerr sacked package does not include budget assistant for states and counties we will be hit with a rough for recession it will last longer and it will be harder to dig out of Kentucky senior senator Mitch McConnell doesn't support adding more money to prop up state budgets at least not without changes changes like letting states filed for bankruptcy here's McConnell on the Hugh Hewitt show recently I would sort of imply rollout that is the is the bankruptcy route if you save some settings and there's no good reason for it not to be available but cities counties even school districts are allowed to file for bankruptcy just not states that has always been the case for the entire history of the United States that's northern Kentucky university law professor ten captain he says Congress could pass a law allowing states to file for bankruptcy but then states would have to pass their own laws allowing it and then it would likely be challenged for violating the constitution's contract clause the main reason is that because there is so that states shouldn't be able to pass laws to relieve themselves of their own death orderlies the deaths of private debtors bankruptcy will allow a court to restructure a state's finances the biggest example of a city declaring bankruptcy was Detroit in two thousand thirteen as part of that process the court required city retirees to take a four and a half percent benefits cut and give up cost of living adjustments university of Pennsylvania law professor David Skeel says states should be allowed to declare bankruptcy he says it would allow sacrifices to be distributed more evenly absent bankruptcy who is the ticket yeah yep there's financial distrust of the state yes beneficiaries of state services president trump has weighed in on Twitter asking why should taxpayers bail out quote poorly run states like Illinois the couple has since softened his suggestion that states be allowed to declare bankruptcy saying it would have been optional and most wouldn't have done it anyway but with so many states struggling it's still an issue capturing attention from state houses to Capitol

How Will Food Banks Meet Demand Related to COVID-19?

"With children at home and countless adults out of work food pantries and food banks are more important than ever for many. Americans. They've been the difference between eating and not eating for years with the novel. Corona virus pandemic that demand for food could soar higher than we've seen in our lifetimes. And so what do we do to ensure these essential local food pantries? Stay afloat honestly. It won't be easy. We took for example our local Atlanta Community Food Bank which as one of the ten largest food banks in the world distributes more than sixty million meals to more than seven hundred fifty five thousand people the Metro Atlanta area and north Georgia. But maintaining. Those numbers isn't only concern. The Food Bank is usually staffed by hundreds of volunteers. Now it has zero it discontinued its volunteer programs to help curb. The spread of the virus and the staff is brainstorming. New Approaches to tackle covered nineteen had on we spoke with Kyle Wade President and CEO of the Atlanta Community Food Bank. He said we have to adopt distribution methods and minimize the number of workers coming in and out and instead of asking people to come into pantries to shop as they wouldn't a grocery store. We're asking Pantries prepackaged food into bags and boxes for drive-thru distributions where the client never leaves the car other food banks across the country are similarly adapting in Ohio. One of the earliest states to impose restaurant closures and self-isolation rules foodbanks stopped serving hot food and began distributing brown bag grabbing go meals according to thirteen. Abc In Toledo staff members at local food pantry. Helping hands of Saint. Louis are wearing gloves and in some case masks and they're using tape on the sidewalk show clients where to stand for proper social distancing while waiting for food their team had to stop accepting donations entirely after curbing its volunteer program for safety and harvest. Hope Food Bank in South Carolina shifted its distribution model to drive through only to limit person to person contact with covert nineteen shuttering businesses across the country. The Need to feed the hungry grows rapidly at the same time. Grocery stores are overrun with scared. Shoppers though rest assured supply chain experts. Say That toilet. Paper supplies will be restocked and general food supplies should become more normal as panic buying subsides. So how food banks access. The bulk of supplies they need for one. Wade says the Atlanta Community Food Bank will lean heavily on partner. Farmers he said farms have access produce. And that's a big part of our supply chain right now so we'll rely on that even more because of pre existing grocery store partnerships food pantries can source bulk products quickly and with better margins than consumers. That's why food banks around. The country are asking community members to donate funds instead of food. Wade said you can give me a canned food costs you a dollar or you can give me a dollar and I can get nine cans of food. This is the same. Even outside disaster times for the Atlanta Community Food Bank funds are also more essential than ever because they like many other nonprofits had to cancel fundraising events in March of two thousand nineteen. Their hunger walk run. Generated eighty thousand dollars with ten thousand participants. But this year it's been canceled. School closures across the country could leave up to thirty million kids without meals according to CNBC. That's because the national school lunch program feeds up to thirty million children per day. The correlated breakfast programme beads fourteen point seven million children daily in the child and Adult Care Food Program serves more than six point. One million children schools closed national and local groups are doing their best to keep children fed in North Carolina for example no kid hungry and see is continuously updating list of free school meal locations in Northern Kentucky restaurants like Poseidon's Pizza Company are supplementing local school cafeteria efforts by offering free small pizzas to K. Through twelve kids. According to Fox nineteen celebrity chef Jose Andres turned his New York City and Washington. Dc Michelin Star restaurants into takeaway kitchens to help those in need. Employees are asking for seven dollars per meal. Although those who can't afford to pay don't have to under his also working with other restaurants to serve as community kitchens to cook for world central kitchen and he's calling on Moore to do the same. Where possible end food? Pantries can help with this. To the Atlanta Community Food Bank is bringing supplemental food to five local school districts adding to the resources local cafeterias have in place for daily meals for children and their families. Wade said providing about ten thousand pounds. That's forty five hundred kilos of food per week per site right now. That's about a quarter of a million pounds of food. We expect to provide these schools altogether. The feeding American network which the Atlanta Community Food Bank partner member of is taking unprecedented steps to ensure its members are able to feed people in their local neighborhoods. Feeding America launched a covert Nineteen Response Fund a National Food and fundraising effort to support people facing hunger. They're working with government leaders to ensure its response include support and flexibility for Federal Nutrition programs ensuring that twenty two million children who rely on school meals have access to food outside of the classroom building an inventory of emergency food boxes to distribute food banks as need increases and providing emergency grants to food banks

The Attempted Murder of 'Selena'

"The mid two thousand I was a bartender at a pretty sleazy Gentlemen's Club in Northern Kentucky. Hell Yeah you are. Can you smell well. It can help menthol cigarettes in the air right across from the river right across the river from Cincinnati. Money was great. I was in my twenty s and I've many crazy stories to share. Here's one Elia. Most of the dancers used cabs to get to and from work. This was in the ages before Uber. At the end of the night some cabs would be lined up out front waiting leading for the ladies to get off work a young lady in her mid twenties. We'll call her SELENA. I don't know her real name. got into one of the cabs to head home for the night just like she did every the other night. This night was extremely cold even for Midwest Standards Snow and ice on the ground negative temps freezing during the ride. The driver pulled off the road to quote go a different way to avoid bad roads. He then pulled over and attacked her. He'd beat her sexually assaulted her slit her throat with a screwdriver and dumped her on the side of a rural Rome guy. This bad ass woke up in a ditch and crawled to a house about half a mile away I want to get home. Holy Shit thankfully at four. Am some kind person answered the door and called nine one one. The doctor said the bitter cold saved her life because she was lying being knocked out in that snowy ditch the blood and the wound froze saving her from bleeding to death. Oh my God. They did catch the driver and he went to prison for rape and attempted murder her it turns out he was a convicted rapist. WHO had only been out of prison for a year? Holy like wherever you are Selena. I hope you're living your best life. Wow Aw no-name chill is not
