I examined this question along with my colleague. Dr julie overdoing who directs encaged masters in public administration program by looking at course outcomes and student surveys. We found that the philanthropy experience outcomes were just as positive for online students as face to face students on various measures including interest in the course learning and applying course material awareness of community needs a responsibility to help others in need and a belief that they can make a difference in the world as one student explained. "Northern kentucky university week air pollution is still a killer for the world. I'm dr lynn. Pascarella president of the association of american colleges and universities and today on the academic minute christine curren associate professor of biological sciences examines. How it affects more than just the lungs. The world health organization estimates that air pollution kills seven million people a year and that ninety percent of the world's population breeze unhealthy air. Although most people understand air pollution harms the lungs. That's not the whole story. Were concerned because air pollution can also harm the developing brain. there's increasing that air pollution can have lifelong impacts following exposure during pregnancy and early life. For example children exposed to high levels of pollution are more to have trouble in school more likely to have behavioral problems and more likely to suffer depression in our lab. We're working to identify. Genetic differences that affect an individual's susceptibility to traffic related. Air pollution or trap. These chemicals are also found in grilled food and cigarette smoke so most of us are exposed to these pollutants. Every time we drive down the highway or enjoy a burger off the grill. We use mice with genetic differences similar to humans. In this way we compare the effects of the same level of pollution on mice with different genetic combinations. We test their learning and memory coordination and balance and the response to stress. Then we look inside the brain to see if there were changes in neuro transmitters. The chemicals the brain uses.

Yes, New research suggests that the sinking of the Titanic may have been triggered by the northern lights, specifically the suggesting that a geomagnetic storm may have interfered with the ship's navigation equipment. Not that the captain was looking up, saying who pretty and steering right into the iceberg. Now scientists are looking into the claim. It's important. Should States Be Allowed To Declare Bankruptcy?

"Many states are facing severe financial shortfalls because of the corona virus outbreak several Republican leaders in Congress including Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell have suggested those states declare bankruptcy but federal law prevents states from doing that Kentucky public radio's Ryland Barton reports that McConnell's cash strapped home state is especially vulnerable Kentucky was struggling before the corona virus it's entered years of escalating budget cuts that go back to the two thousand eight financial collapse and now almost a third of the state's workforce has filed for unemployment this is led to a massive drop in income and sales tax collections which make up more than three quarters of the money Kentucky brings in every year democratic governor Andy Beshear is one of many governors who say they need more financial help from the federal government during the pandemic if the next Kerr sacked package does not include budget assistant for states and counties we will be hit with a rough for recession it will last longer and it will be harder to dig out of Kentucky senior senator Mitch McConnell doesn't support adding more money to prop up state budgets at least not without changes changes like letting states filed for bankruptcy here's McConnell on the Hugh Hewitt show recently I would sort of imply rollout that is the is the bankruptcy route if you save some settings and there's no good reason for it not to be available but cities counties even school districts are allowed to file for bankruptcy just not states that has always been the case for the entire history of the United States that's northern Kentucky university law professor ten captain he says Congress could pass a law allowing states to file for bankruptcy but then states would have to pass their own laws allowing it and then it would likely be challenged for violating the constitution's contract clause the main reason is that because there is so that states shouldn't be able to pass laws to relieve themselves of their own death orderlies the deaths of private debtors bankruptcy will allow a court to restructure a state's finances the biggest example of a city declaring bankruptcy was Detroit in two thousand thirteen as part of that process the court required city retirees to take a four and a half percent benefits cut and give up cost of living adjustments university of Pennsylvania law professor David Skeel says states should be allowed to declare bankruptcy he says it would allow sacrifices to be distributed more evenly absent bankruptcy who is the ticket yeah yep there's financial distrust of the state yes beneficiaries of state services president trump has weighed in on Twitter asking why should taxpayers bail out quote poorly run states like Illinois the couple has since softened his suggestion that states be allowed to declare bankruptcy saying it would have been optional and most wouldn't have done it anyway but with so many states struggling it's still an issue capturing attention from state houses to Capitol

"Not what it looks like. It's something else I think they can buy all they want. I think a place like Willie pig is not can get bought by AB. No No. It's going to be those guys those four or five people blur out there running that place in the middle of the woods east to Kazakhstan and it is well worth a day trip. And you're going to have if you can differentiate yourself and step deputy and and make it a unique experience my walks in the door and these beers cannot be found anywhere else and the experience here in the food doesn't match chuck quite it. You're you're going to draw people in no matter what And I just I think there is a you're hinting at it. I think there is something that does change when when you go corporate. It's something that's really hard to describe. Sometimes some places some some places. It's very clear what what changed and you can see it and you can feel it. There's some things that just aren't quite as tangible but But it's there what's the what's the measure of success for you. Aw that you're sitting here drinking a beer. Santa tastes good. I I I get in the Brewery Marie and I make a beer and I think yeah nailed it and it takes a couple of weeks. It's it's going out there and then walking out in having people tell me okay. That's not bad at all. I like this. I've been waiting for this beer. Sure and that to me is fun right. I mean I in my other life. I'm an insurance adjustor. Nobody says man. I've been waiting finish this file for several weeks. Now this is really great. WHO's in the middle of an insurance claim? One hundred percents. So it's there. There's there's something that's part of you. That goes into a beer and you. You're dreaming this stuff. I mean I lie awake in bed some night trying to dream of how am I going to we. We have this beer here that my daughter and I went down and just dragged a bunch of grain out of the basement making. It's a coconut porter and it's going to be I mean it's it's hit all all the targets rate and that's fun and I didn't even write down. Half the ingredients went in there. I don't even know if we can do it again if it's just that ah that and it's it's going to maybe be a one off. Where else can you do? One offs great so kind of piggybacking on that out how big for you is too big. I think I I definitely understand with what this place is. There's not some goal for the see some massive passive production facility. That's pumping out beer across the country. I guess you can tell with US places about but for you How how how big a a brewery is too big at? What point do you do you walk into the job like this and then this is not it all his their breweries around town? That have gotten a lot bigger than what they started out as I understand. That's a good question. I'm a right now. I walk in windows by name. And we're joking and we're having a good time and it's not it doesn't have that corporate feel thank and and we're in here having a blast making beer and we have music on and were you know. At the end of the day we're going out in and the grabbing some chow from the kitchen. Come in here and we're working and clean things up in it. It's fun walking away from that job. Well done or see tomorrow I guess when that's not there anymore you know if you get so big that I- managing in people instead of beer I've managed people before. And that's felon I love people right but having your hands in the beer like I when I'm up here on the Broo- Dak and I'm in the middle of the Mash. I am smelling it looking at it. You know I can feel it. I know and so if I'm in an office somewhere you know running out payroll reports or something. I I think that would be the part where I've lost the love. I said you know not to not talking about anybody specifically save emails but I see I see some people who start a brewery and ends there that same way there on that that Brubeck or you know those there behind the bar for some of these places you know poor and beer after. They've been brewing all day and like just making work and I again. I respect the idea that you don't always want to do the hat either. But then to transition to a phase is where you're sitting in meetings all day and you're talking to kroger whoever it is and then this place and that place and that's a whole other to hold their type of business. I can't can't wrap my head around this idea that you get into craft beer with this thing that you're doing and then end up where you're this and They're worlds apart to me and all necessary if you want to run a business like that you have to. Somebody's got to do that too. But I'm an introvert. And that's why they built buildings cage out here. They built by on little cage out of here and they and they let me choose my equipment and and they said here just go in there and make beer and you know I get my daughter working with me and some other great people in here and were just making beer and I can come in some days drive drive drive my car my truck up the back of a Hillier Parker Ratings Abreu walk in make clear clean things up getting a truck and drive off and I might not not have contact with five or six people and that to me is a fun time and then a few days a week I walked through and grab a couple of people bring them through. Walk them through the Ba- relent relent. Drink from the swift call and interact and have fun. You know but that's not me all day right. That's so I I think I'm in a sweet spot right. And that's what's so beautiful about a place like this is like. I don't see that changing for what what this place is. I feel like it's it's sized. Its size big. You mean there you guys can definitely pump out some beer here if you want to. But it's sized right to where you don't don't you're you're going to need you're not gonNa have some desperate moment in In six months break. Oh my God what do we do we we. We can't do this. The way we built US plays its its size where you can and so. I think there's not going to be that. Oh Shit moments and I don't know Shit. Moments can make work very the northern Kentucky University came to us and they want us to to serve our beer in their basketball call him. So I mean that's that that's like one of my big dreams was to get a whole place drunk a whole athletic place drunk. So how cool is that. That's also. This is something that I don't think people recognize about where you guys are is. You're just as much a northern Kentucky Brewery has your Cincinnati Brewery right on the river It literally right on the river it. So right across the the other side of two seventy five from Coney Island and all that if people don't know where it is but If you if you don't I I am pretty sure that if you go to the website and where you're probably I guess he subscribed on some kind of podcast platform but if you go into click on deadline somewhere. There's a little map that'll pop up. It'll be right where it is and you can just throw it there or I'm sure you guys have a website. That does the same thing. That's all I've got for. You know what let's in any of your listeners. That are that are hearing this and they want to come in and visit and if my truck is sitting out here behind the brewery come come on in find me. Let's grab glassless. Have a beer together from this recall absolutely again. They'd just say they heard this. And you're going to be hearing a lot more about does local in the near future. It's such a fun thing I It's a it's a pleasure that I I probably get more than the average beer beer drinker because of the nature of what I do but it really is something special to go and to be in a a brewery and to be drinking from tank and It's it's special and so if you haven't got his especially if you haven't ever had that opportunity to you take into my office. It's just come over here. Impress your face up against the glass garage door and pound like that's right. Thank you very much. If people want to know more about dead low they should probably go social media website. All of that stuff right which they'll be links for in the show notes yes. I don't know them off the top of my eh. Pray deadlocked brewing or something I. I'm pretty sure it is and I swore off facebook several years ago so sounds wonderful and peaceful to me is Too many family members. Now that WanNa see pictures of a two year old A. They won't let me leave facebook anymore. Well thank you very much touch and we'll be back next week It's still up in the air on which episode. I'll play next week. It's either going to be the big six episode or were in studio in that meantime too so one of them will be next week and won't be Christmas show so I don't know I don't know what it is. You'll click on it next week and you'll see and Greg. I appreciate immensely. Absolutely you on. This is going to mess up here on me. I appreciate a mentally you making the time for me and giving us a taste of what those is about. Because.

"Seven hundred wwl w starting at three thirty five in real quick. I watched some of Murray states seventy seven to sixty five victory over Belmont. In the championship game of the Ohio valley conference tournament tonight, the racers or twenty seven and four they earned the automatic berth in the NC double A tournament. But Belmont at twenty six and five out of Nashville, Tennessee Belmont deserves a bid to in the NC double A tournament selection committee needs to reward more mid majors for their excellence instead of rewarding power fives for their abject mediocrity. What do you think of that? Let's go out to the phone. Phones. And we welcome in Tom any Hillsborough home of touchdown. Troy richards. My main man what's going on, Tom. Good to hear from you chick. I really enjoy your show. I just wanted to personally. Thank you real quick here because it's off topic for centimeter recipe for the big pizza. Oh my goodness. Wow. It has changed my life. Thank you, very appreciate that. I only unleash it. A couple times a year. The NC double h tournament and. What I tell people just like a big, let's say no way. It does. It's pizza. It's a big piece. It's it's a wonderful thing. It's a phenomenon. Thank you. Now. I'll let you go here. Thank you so much and thank you. All right. Appreciate that. Yet Tana calories. But it is awesome. And if you would like that recipe, all you gotta do is Email me chick Ludwig one word at Yahoo dot com, and I'll ship it out to you. Awesome. It's a phenomenon that's sweeping the country of Sita shining sea from the Empire State to the Golden Gate now, let's get to some local college basketball. Here we talked about UC the twentieth ranked Bearcats tomorrow against Houston on senior day. Justin, Jennifer and Kane broom tomorrow at fifth third arena, noon tip off right here on seven hundred wwl w Xavier today, man. Sixth win in seven games. They've come on strong with an eighty one to sixty eight victory over the red storm of Saint John's at cintas center man phenomenal senior day performance by your three Xavier seniors. Now as far as northern Kentucky university is concerned. Monday's a big night because the Norse the number two seed in the horizon league tournament during the semi finals they face Oakland university nine thirty Monday night in Detroit at Little Caesars arena earlier at seven o'clock in the same arena the Wright state raiders face Green Bay that's a seven o'clock tip off in the semi finals, the number one seed Wright state raiders, it looks like could it be might it be. Hopefully, it will be right state against northern Kentucky the top two seeds going for the horizon league championship and the automatic berth to the NCAA tournament now at the Miami redhawks. They lost on Friday night at Ohio you sixty six to fifty seven and now Miami will travel to Akron to face the zips on Monday in the MAC tournament. Good luck to the Miami red hawks who play their games in. The world's largest living room Millette hall because this is funny because I bumped into some teachers who are from Miami. And they say vape spread the word. They've heard that it's the world's largest living room a phrase coined by the chicks ter- because you could take a pillow and a blanket into the upper deck at Millette hall and take a little nap. It's just so comfortable there. Okay. So good luck to the Miami. Read. How about the Dayton flyers going into Pittsburgh today knocking off Duquesne seventy eight to sixty seven the twenty-first victory for the flyers this year under the tutelage of Anthony grant flyer? Grad the flyer faithful are Rockin with with the flyers this season. Good luck to Dayton in the tournament. It's just a shame. That Dayton is not playing in the big east because I miss the Blackburn McCaffrey trophy the fight between Xavier. And you d it was a great great rivalry to his gone away. It's a shame. It can't come back because that rivalry was very very special. The sixth ranked university of Kentucky Wildcats, they defeat Florida today at rob arena, sixty six to fifty seven UK I like them is a number one overall not overall seat, but a number one seed in the NC double A tournament because it's going to be Duke Virginia, Gonzaga, and then it's up for grabs that fourth number one seed could it be Tennessee. Could it be UK? We're gonna find out because it will go to the SEC tournament champion. I got that feeling and then Louisville good showing today. They just couldn't quite pull it out. But they lose at number two Virginia seventy three to sixty eight. So let's go over some scores here in the top twenty five number seventeen Nevada holds at forty nine to forty four lead over. San Diego State with fifteen minutes left. Just gave you the Virginia score Virginia seventy three to sixty eight over lawville Duke goes into North Carolina. It's all tar heels seventy nine to seventy but the big news is from coach K Zion. Williamson is going to make a comeback this year and play in the ACC tournament. That's what it's all about. Isn't it? Not the money of the pros right now, but playing and winning an AA championship. But it's North Carolina number three in the country over the fourth-ranked. Blue the Duke blue devils, seventy nine to seventy and number five Tennessee goes into Auburn. And it's the Auburn Tigers upsetting volunteers eighty four to eighty gave you UK score sixty six to fifty seven over Florida number nine Michigan state holds off number seven Michigan seventy five to sixty three in east Lansing, number eight, Texas Tech all over Iowa State, eighty to seventy three LSU eighty to fifty nine winners the tenth ranked Tigers, they defeat the Vanderbilt Commodores eighty two fifty nine number eleven Purdue seventy northwestern fifty seven so the Purdue Boilermakers and one of the top teams in the country and definitely a.
