"Ice storm in the southern plain is the story that's taking front and center stage. There are now well over 300,000 residents in Texas without power. Today, some more sleet and freezing rain is expected from central and northern Texas on over to western Tennessee. Many of those ice storm warnings in Texas run until 9 a.m., there is hope that temperatures will rise just a bit and will reach the mid 30s later today, changing all of this ice to plane rain, but by now the damage done and still many roads are still impassable. Elsewhere in the southeast, there is still some rain occurring in Louisiana and that will be spreading out into northern Georgia and the Carolinas today too, a chilly rain with temperatures no higher than the 40s. Elsewhere in the country, some bitterly cold air is about to move into the upper Midwest. Temperatures will be averaging zero to ten below in parts of North Dakota and northern Minnesota. Over the next couple of days, this Arctic blast will be reaching the Great Lakes tomorrow, and then the northeast over the weekend. So prepare for that. Across Florida, there are some dense fog advisories out for the Panhandle this morning, but of course it'll be warm across central and southern parts of the sunshine state with highs in the 70s and 80s. The northeast and mid Atlantic states don't look too bad today. Although there will be clouds and showers in Virginia, areas farther to the north will be dry and temperatures would mostly in the 30s and 40s in California dry weather will prevail today, but in the northwest, there could be a couple of showers tonight as a front arrives. Temperatures across much of eastern North Dakota and in northwestern Minnesota will be near 10° below zero, but winds will make it feel like it's between 30 and 40 below and will be following the progress of this bitterly cold air as it reaches the Great Lakes region tonight and early tomorrow. And finally, Friday, Friday night and Saturday, it'll be impacting much of the northeast, especially New England, already people talking about wind chills of nearly 50 below in Caribou Maine by Friday night. Obviously, cold air causing other problems in other parts of the country still just cold enough for more sleet and freezing rain to occur in Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas and western Tennessee. There are still various ice storm warnings out this morning. They expire during mid morning, there's some hope. "Poor blue bell. Yep. All right, well, I hope that blue bell gets better with her pet therapy and I be a cough up a decent level of compensation for these poor people and their portal. Yeah, me too. Well, you know what? That ends the new segment. It's now time to get to know us. Ray. Yay. Yeah, whether you want to or not, we're going to tell you anyway. All right. Let's see, we recorded the last show. We started on Thursday of last week and ended on Saturday. We had to do a two part because of Internet connection, connectivity issues here. At the new APG headquarters in Roswell, near the beautiful fashionable historic downtown Roswell. Georgia, and then let's see, did I fly? I think I flew, where did I go? I don't remember. Oh, I did a green slip trip. An overnight. I was in Jackson Mississippi. Last week. Did you see the Mississippi? I did not because you have to go a little bit further to the west to see the Mississippi River. But anyway, yeah, I had a good time. It was rainy, cold, weather, so didn't really get out and about from the hotel. It was a nice long layover there, but we just were pretty much confined. To the hotel, but it was a nice co-pilot. I was flying with a young man at the start of his airline career. And I am the old guy who is getting very close to the end of his. The grumpy old captain. I was like, is that your grandfather? You're flying with her? Yeah. But anyways, really nice guy. And what were you asking Liz? Oh, I was doing a lot of editing, yes. I had to do that. Well, at least give you something to do to one of the ways the time. Hopefully you sat in the bar and put your headphones on. Well, I don't believe that the clothes between like two and four, so I was in my room doing the editing at that time. Anyway, it doesn't matter. I did a lot of singing again over the weekend. My voice is almost back to 100%. It was a very a lot of singing and a lot of rehearsing. And then, of course, coming up here on Saturday. New Year's Eve, I'm gonna be singing in four. I mean, sorry, not new year's Christmas Eve. Thank you, Liz. And Christmas Eve, I'm going to sing in a, I think, for four or 5 masses on Christmas Eve day and for the midnight mass. Anyway, looking forward to that. I always enjoy the music. Are you singing on Christmas Day too? Christmas Day, I might be singing in the morning, the ladies that are doing the 7 30. Mass 7 30 a.m., we're hoping that if I weren't doing anything that I might be able to join them. So we'll see. I'm going to be doing the midnight mass, the night before, and then maybe come back here and get a few hours. We'll stay there. I might as well just throw in a few beers. And then I start singing at 7 30. Now one thing that's happening here in the United States right now, in fact, tonight between now and the wee hours of the morning, a cold front is coming down, all that does awful Canadians are sending us this very, very cold air. And it is giving you the cold shoulder. Oh yeah, more than that. The temperature here in Roswell, Georgia, and northern Georgia. As opposed to get, well, with the wind chill factored in, it's going to be like minus 4° -5°, Fahrenheit, which I'm not sure exactly how that equates to incentive grade, but I think it's like -20 21, something like that. 36° of frost. I think we understand that it's going to be pretty chilly. It's going to be really, really cold. And I'm kind of, I was telling Nick and Liz before we started recording today's show that I actually went out before we started the recording. I went to the storage unit and got my little propane camp stove because this apartment that I'm in is 100% electric and I'm thinking, you know, if sometimes when it gets really cold, the electrical grid goes down or trees, you know, freeze and fall over and take down power lines. I'm thinking, if we lose electricity in this place, I'm going to be. Done for. I'm not sure how long I'll be able to stay in here because it's going to be so ding dang cold. The ambient temperature. That's what I'm thinking. But just in case I went ahead and got this camp stove, I went to public's grocery store and got a couple of cans of stuff that I could open up and heat up on my propane stuff. So you can make sniff the propane and then I could do that. Feel better. Actually, I guess I said propane, but I think it's like a propane butane mix. I'm not sure exactly what it is. Anyway, it's in the car.

"Homeowner aspect. I think you can start fertilizing sometime around the first of may People do it a little sooner but you take some risks. They're here around. The northern georgia atlanta area generally lasts for office no later than april fifteenth. But we saw some lighter than that this year if rush out and you put fertilizer to it starts producing using stored energy. If you get that frost in it sets that back asked to start over. It may not have the energy reserves to do that. One thing that you can do in the fall to store those carbohydrates that it that the turf uses to green up in the spring is a good potassium application. Fertilizers are three numbers. A ten ten ten is ten percent nitrogen. Ten percent phosphorus ten percent potassium look for something in the fall with very little to no nitrogen. A little phosphorus is okay. Hi n number a good potassium application the foul can help grasses produce that colorado they need to go into dorm and have those stored energy to come out in the spring and then really wait till about may so. You're good no threat of anymore. For allston you can start to make that nitrogen application. A good blended right fertilizer. Unless you have some issues and you can go into a more higher right nitrogen to push that grass along one two. Maybe three applications on bermuda grass. During the summer i liked to see one application of nitrogen fertilizer on zoysia grass on established home long. Obviously we do a lot more than that here in the farm because we're trying to grow and produce it but really trying to stick to around one or two applications on zoysia cut that off no nitrogen after july fourth says simple date to remember july fourth no more nitrogen on your social long because it increases the risk of disease in the foul and heaven that nitrogen there as a nutrient source for that disease if it was to become active. You've got an explosion of that nitrogen. There's nutrient source for that disease. What about scalping along..

"Been a story on the northern Georgia golf Trail, which I don't think I even I knew, and I just whether it's stone Mountain is one of them, Uh, a couple others. I can't take them right off the hand. But Stone Mountain is when they're really stuck out in my mind. So, Mike what? What? What made you write about that of all things? Well, I give some public relations work for the Georgia Golf Trail and and the founder Doug Collins works and this has been on my list of items to do for a couple of years and And the best time to go up. There is Brad Summer and early fall, So actually in late July, I took a few days and flew to Atlanta when in the car and, uh, get a little tour of the North Georgia did start at Stone Mountain, which has got two great golf courses Stone Moss and Lake Box. And there's Two golf courses and the northern mountainous part of Georgia, which is quite mountainous. Many people are unaware how mountainous and hilly northern Georgia is and I believe the course of Sky Valley and Brasstown Valley and down at Innsbruck, which is near Helen, Georgia. Three great courses. Actually, two of the courses are actually in the valley of the mountains, and his book is actually is within the hill. They call it Alpine golf and it is true. What sets these courses apart. What are some of the things that golfers would, uh, be looking forward to as far as the courses themselves. Well, Stone Mountain. I will start with. Let's start with, you know Stone mounds a good place to start since you're probably flying into Atlanta. And on the eastern part of the city. You've got this state park. There's a lot of state parks have great golf courses in Georgia. More than just a stone Mountain. Um, wonderful conditions. The scenery is just magical. And you don't realize you're so close to such a major Bessa Pollen area as you are to Atlanta when they're stone Mountain. As I said, in my story, you should begin your journey and stone Mountain and finish your journey and so on Mountain so I played late March to begin with. And then I went up the road to Sky Valley, which is the Almost actually, you have to go into North Carolina. To get back into Georgia because the Sky Valley it's way up there in the northeast section of state, and you're totally surrounded by hills and all sides and back to so remote. Your fill your cellphone doesn't work up there. Most people distracted by by a phone call when you're playing golf Sky Valley. Yeah, that's well, That's a good thing. Yeah, really. Most people want to. You know, when they hear Augusta when they hear golf in Georgia. They think Augusta National are the courses in a lot of ways. Terrain wise. Similar to Augusta or completely different. Well, of course, that I played at the very end. When I made my way back down towards Atlanta, I went west of the city to a little Caricola, Villa Rica. And there they have a golf course with a very usual name called the Frog. I think when you look at the, uh, the layout of the property from the air, it looks like a frog, but truly The frog, especially late in the afternoon when the insects are European. It's a lot of lolly times everywhere. You think you're at Augusta national ending listing of the patrons of the CBS cameras, it is merely Similar and the golf courses in tremendous shape. I You know it's too bad in some respects the body. Jones didn't go to Villa wicket to build Augusta National because that could have been a piece of property that he could have turned into a great championship golf course. That's amazing When you think about it, I guess one problem that I would maybe be concerned about from a personal level. What about the bugs in the South? Are they prevalent in Georgia? On your Swing through the northern part of part of Georgia. The big, totally honest, I don't remember seeing one does all day in a gate. It's uh, It's a little cooler up there because the elevation and it's just a refreshing escape. There's Nothing negative about being in north Georgia. It's a fact that sometimes yourself one doesn't work. But that's good, because that's the point of the escapist too. Uh, too long in the peace and tranquility and Brasstown Valley again, it's in the Valley. Totally surrounded by the mountains. There was one point in my round behind the 11th green. And I was playing by myself and I just stopped. I didn't hear any nearby cars. I didn't hear any any human beings. I just heard Mother nature and when blowing and it was like Oh, my word. It was just Peaceful and serene and did under new or leave. That's why I stood there for like 15 minutes. Just Soaked at him. My prayers with us, the northern Georgia Golf Trail and Mike the that's been to Atlantic never been anywhere else in Georgia, except Atlanta. Can you play your around on those northern courses? Find it gets a little bit challenge. I mean sky Bally's opened through 365 days a year. So the answer is yes to be a little bit damp in the During December, January February, But Thursday's that you can play throughout the year. They're open and great times ago or really late spring throughout the summer and well into the fall, So there's a big time frame to go and If you were there today, you wouldn't want to leave..

"Reason i just felt like writing another team since in the mid eighteen. Hundreds already limb. There was something called the great train robbery. Which was where these union spies went down south northern georgia in commandeered hijacked the train. Which was sort of a hard thing to imagine. Hijacking a trainee every till off to the side or something. But that's what they did and it didn't work out so well for one because ever captured and hung later on after going for about seventy miles and ran out of steam. So i wrote that tune. And then i started saying oh seem to be hanging out in the mid eighteen hundreds here. Maybe this could become something. And then i wrote this song maura o'connell thing which carry me over the which became and i don't remember exactly why i went to that. I guess i kind of started thinking. Let's see if i can connect things here. And so she's gonna come over from ireland during the potato famine and more near and she's gonna meet the riverboat gambler and then started trying to put these threads together and at that point it started becoming obvious. Okay i'm going to make this a civil war based story and the more research. I did the more it opened up and blossomed into would it became. Finally which is shall we hope. And i'm not. I'm not a civil war. Buff per se is with people really into it. They go to all the battleground. I i went to the geddes grew battleground but You know there were certain aspects like wanted to have an element of You know. I want to talk about slavery. I wanted to address that and it wasn't sure how to approach it in that. I was in asheville north carolina and staying with some friends and the husband is a teacher. History teacher the warren wilson college and he said hey tomorrow morning. If you're free we could go visit the slave graveyard that we're clearing of lot of shrubbery and i said yes. I would love to do that and it was anyway. I went there and without coming into the details was a very moving experience and that became the basis for four of the tunes on the album. Were headed research. What a an enslaved a burial ceremony would be like and just talking about. Well i can go into more details. That's sort of deborah. That whole thing to bear Anyway that's a long winded answer to your question it's a beautiful music on us Lovely to see more o'connell courses a household david ireland and i guess in the folk scene in the in the us as well I mean i had a chat with giddens a couple years ago at romp which was really enlightening for me as an irish musician as white musician. Who has grown playing the banjo. I always knew that the banjo came from africa. I was very taken with the irish immigrant. In the irish indentured worker story with the joel walker sweeney and the you know the irish fiddlers meeting the a and i kinda romanticized. As in a lotta ways that ragtime an old time and bluegrass music developed out of this and brought home to me. The whitening of banjos history Very much so did a did. Did that awareness that play into this album. Black roots in african roots banjo. Yeah not so much. I had done an album in nineteen ninety three. I think it was a called world turning right dress. The history of the banjo and i started off from an african tune and then it's minstrel tunes.

"There were remote satellite voting facilities. Their poll watchers were denied meaningful access. And when you think about the concept of a ballot, Dropbox I mean, come on. Anybody with an ounce of common sense can tell you that they cannot be supervised 24 hours a day, seven days a week. But what prevents any democratic activists from stuffing 100 balance in there every single day for a week? In Georgia. They didn't scale back on any of this stuff. Fun. The secretary of state in Georgia plus up on ballot drop boxes, So now there are more So you add to all of these unconscious Tutu, Chinna last minute voting changes right? You add to that the level of what you said the apathy that I feel like Trump voters are feeling like the oven many and by the way, I think it's very important. There's a clear distinction. Between the Trump voter and a traditional Republican voter and first success for there to be Any level of success achieved in Georgia, both traditional GOP and Trump voters need to turn out in force in the base of the Republican base. The Trump based feels I will tell you they feel a sense of apathy because they feel like They were left behind by the courts. And perhaps even some members in the Senate and the house who aren't fighting Aziz as passionately as I think they need to be. To make sure that people who have ah sense of clarity with the selection, so I'm very worried about Georgia. Hopefully, when the president goes down there today, he'll stir up the base in northern Georgia because northern Georgia those Republicans need to turn out in force. But I'm worried because And I feel like we're staring. We were staring into the abyss here, man. This country stands on a thin line between hope and darkness. And if we lose, we lose both races in Georgia. I mean, the Democrats have not made a secret about the fact that they will do everything that they can to fundamentally change America for generations. What do you think Showing about this plan? So we got we had Georgia tomorrow and then just the big week a lot going on here. Where? George tomorrow and then you have the certification. January. 6th right. The electoral college results certified certification in Congress. You got 11. 11 senators who are saying that they will reject the electors from disputed states as not regularly given and lawfully certified. Unless a 10 Day audit. Is completed. You've got senators Cruise, Johnson, Langford Danes, Kennedy, Marsha Blackburn, Mike Braun, Cynthia Loomis, Roger Marshall, Bill Haggerty and Tommy Tuberville. They've all said they're gonna vote against accepting election results. Unless there is a 10 Day audit. They wanna extend this thing out. Well, just first off. What do you think about this At the at the macro level? Is this the right move? And do you think you can do anything? Well, I look, I agree with it. I do think it's the right move. I don't know. Uh, if if a 10 day commission is gonna have the time necessary to get the information required to do anything with it, Um, I Senator Cruz, I think is right to push back on this issue because I'll tell you Look, and this is just On my personal experience on the ground in Pennsylvania Buck I have no idea how any person Democrat or Republican, and I mean this and certify the race in Pennsylvania. I mean everything that I just mentioned about unconstitutional changes to election system to our electoral process here. Last minute on the go and add to that, like we're putting together a new audit of the vote numbers using Pennsylvania's Own reported numbers at a precinct by precinct level. And across the state of Pennsylvania. There's 120,000 boat deficit and what that means. Is there 120,000 more votes than voters statewide, right? The people who cast ballots My district alone. Perceived people felt More votes than people who voted on election day, and this is data that could be taken from the shore system in Pennsylvania. The source system is our official voter database and registry. Wow. Bob Wall Buck by law, the state of Pennsylvania. Cannot be certified until those numbers air reckon reconcile in the short system..
