NJ Transit commuter trapped on empty train for 90 minutes before rescue
"Says crews were supposed to check the seats for passengers when they take train's out of service. And that's not what happened to a 26 year old Woodbridge woman Tofu Hosni was on a North Jersey coastline train, which made its usual stop in Newark. They made the announcement about the train being taken out of service for mechanical reasons. But she had earbuds in kind of dozing. She didn't hear. That's what she told NBC. I looked around the train. I went around up and down to see if anyone was on it, and I realized I was actually locked inside of an out of service train. Sounds like the Twilight Zone. She was trapped on board for 90 minutes at a rail siding. Her phone dying. The A C turned off. She got through to her brother, who called NJ Transit, which scrambled to figure out where she is, If it was just a simple, you know, someone walked by and said, Hey, this train is out of service. Make sure you get off. That would have been. You know, I could have avoided the whole thing. NJ Transit apologized offer her to free tickets for her ordeal. They later increased it to six. And they say employees could be disciplined for not checking the seats as they're supposed to. It's 12

The Dissonance Between Sanders and His Supporters
"Vermont senator Bernie Sanders seems to be cruising through the first few primary states and as he scoops of delegates for the nomination some Democrats are wondering how the democratic socialist at the top of the ticket might affect down ballot races could a nominee who is so far to the left hurt those running for Congress were more centrist especially when we're talking about congressional seats Democrats flipped in twenty eighteen to take back control of the house to talk about all this we're joined now by Dave Wasserman from the cook political report welcome thanks for having me so just describe for us the argument that moderate Democrats are making why do they say that they're worried about Sanders becoming the nominee in terms of how it could affect other races in November we're hearing pushback from variety of fronts on the democratic side there are members from South Florida who are uncomfortable with Sanders's comments on the Cuban regime there are more moderate pro business Democrats from upscale suburbs who believe that his argument for revolution just will not sell at a time when the economy is pretty good for the professional work force in this country and there are Democrats who believe that a seventy eight year old Vermont democratic socialist will just lose badly to trump and take the ticket nationwide I'm skeptical that he's going to have the dramatic down ballot implications for Democrats that Republicans say he will what kind of districts would you say are most at risk in twenty twenty and how might a Sanders nomination play in those districts so right now Republicans need to gain eighteen seats to win back the house majority the Democrats won in twenty eighteen and Democrats want a variety of of different kinds of districts in the mid terms they won some seats that were more blue collar and had voted for Obama in the path Austin voted for trump in twenty sixteen those included seats in Michigan and Iowa in northern Maine there are also the seats in the suburbs that traditionally were very Republican in the past and voted for Mitt Romney that have been trending blue Orange County California where Democrats picked up four districts you have north Jersey where there's no longer a single Republican in the house those are the kinds of places where Sanders might run weakest relative to Hillary Clinton and we're Democrats will need to spend money to make the case that there are different kind of Democrat that said tell me why you're skeptical about if it were a Sanders nomination that having a palpable effect down ballot Republicans are Getty right now because they believe the Sanders nomination could give them a chance to win back house control but there are a couple of reasons I would push back on that and be more cautious the first is that voters are likely to view Bernie Sanders as an independent political entity in twenty sixteen we noticed that voters distinguish Donald Trump from the Republican Party someone and so Republicans in districts where trump was unpopular actually performed okay Republicans held on to control of the house in twenty sixteen when trump was elected in part because a lot of voters went to the polls believing that Hillary Clinton was going to win the election and they wanted a check on president Clinton or so they thought if Bernie Sanders as the democratic nominee then there's a possibility that a lot of voters who are displeased with their choices between Sanders and trump would vote for a Democrat to continue having a check on president trump well at any rate it seems that some Republican candidates now are using a possible Sanders nomination in their ads I mean you know Democrats they want to take back the Senate in Arizona Republican senator Martha McSally has already released ads tying her democratic opponent the astronaut mark Kelly to Bernie Sanders before Sanders has even won the democratic

The Allure of the Roadtrip: Building Towable Tiny Houses with Author Chris Schapdick
"I'm curious if we just art with with your kind of personal story you know what brought you to the tiny house movement and then what what made you decide to become an Tiny house builder yeah it's well it's it's as with most things in life they very often happens sort of by accident not slants sort of way and it's it's the same thing for me really I I was going back like about five six years I was a father a nine year old girl living at New York City in Berry league populated suburbia here and I kind of regretted that my daughter wasn't really getting a lot of Serb exposure due to to nature and two things that I don as a kid camping fishing hiking these sorts of things so I started thinking about that more more and I decided to buy a piece of land North York City with the idea that we would go up there we would can for something that would be a place to Kinda destination for the two of us in the one thing led to another it was right around that time that I found H. Schafer's Tiny House spoke and that kind of intrigued May and then I started going online and I found tiny houses they were b Ah Goto at the time you know if you go back a couple of years there weren't that many companies doing this sort of thing and and yeah and and suv this idea of having a place to go Kim kind of evolved into well would've built cabin there or something like that better and Yeah let's go another in Iowa wound up deciding on a tiny house and building a tiny house I'd did for a a shell build from tumbleweed folks since it was a little intimidated with doing all the framing and roofing and things like that myself are so the offered what was called an Army Amish Orrin Razor and I went with that and yet proceeded to sort of spend the next several years off and on weekends kind of finalizing that building and doing all the various things that need to be done the insulation the interior electrical plumbing and coming up with all the various decisions that to be made in that during that process as well but that's kind of like how how yeah I got for me to be talking about this wonderful tiny house upstate New York that's awesome so it's a it's a tiny house on wheels which tumbleweed model is it is the Linda Linden do that anymore but but yeah says the Linden model has nicer to foot up or on the back of it and that that appeal to me definitely so do you still you still have that tiny house absolutely yes great that's great so you you finished out the tumbleweed one then what what was the next step to saying I want to do this for other people yeah yeah so when I finished the house into a tiny house showed that was taking place in North Jersey I'd never really intended to to take the house you know ability to travel with you know it was really built to to to fill the purpose that interest described but this show was taking place that was like well you know what Lake with slips get more involved in the community because I you know I enjoy this let's let's get together with some other like minded people and it wasn't too far away spend sixty mile drive you know my my truck was up to the task of towing it there and I went to the tiny show was really I didn't know what to expect quite frankly and during the course of building the house maybe ten people got to see it you're tired on this one weekend ad like three or four thousand people trek through the House and in just the feedback and be the positive reception that I got from people in them and the kind words that they had from the House of what I've done is really just very socially overwhelming for me and it gave me a little bit of pause and I thought well I don't ever get this kind of reward or feedback from the five job you know I go in there stangeland during paid but I'm like crunching numbers on a spreadsheet writing emails that is not very fulfilling this weekend blatantly was had me kind of reconsider yeah Lord aspects of my life at that point wow that's huge yeah I guess when you're you know working nine to five which which I did for while as well nobody like treats your work as like something amazing and Special Lake worth worth congratulating but I guess in the tiny swirled because everything can be so unique everything kind of reflects the builder or the client or both there is the opportunity to it's really impact people with with the work that you do yeah absolutely not I couldn't agree more and and that houses is really just an extension of who I am exactly like what you're describing is it's such a personal thing when in our lives do we really have that opportunity ninety to create something like that that's such an expression for we are what we hold the import so forth so what was the first what was that well I guess what was the second tiny house you built after your your personal house yeah so the second time he asked us kind of funny because the first tiny house great reception I was like that was awesome i WanNa do this again Xie House show that wasn't so conveniently located that I could just kind of drag my house to it goes down in Florida like okay we'll Matt telling my ten thousand power house for New York to Florida unrealistic so we'll have a way how do I get to have this experience again build another tiny house and that's when I started building sort of the smaller more mobile of Artaud Gypsy wagon types pictures and they put that second tiny house together in a matter of like six weeks the first five years Bill Amazon took six weeks in and off the floor and I went and it was it was really just a desire to continue to be part of the community and Environment yeah so was that the Gypsy wagon yes gypsy wagon bill but I did nice and did you did you sell that house the Florida show did not sell it at the Florida Show I subsequently sold it but but it was yeah it was something that the second I'm bill was something that I wanted to reduce I'd I'd already started thinking about continuing to build these and building four of them for for bull so as part of that process what I built the press gypsy wagon I documented the entire build I was taking a look let me do online floors or something like that ultimately it while the apartment struggles dot com and I got a lot of Nice feedback there and again that my point there was really to make money with it or whatever it was just something that I did at pure enjoyment and and and the whole so you know helping others do something similar yeah and I love I love that you put this up on instructive holes and you know that website I feel like it was really big in the like maybe like late audits early tens it's a wonderful resource like people post so many cool projects up there and like you've got a step by step basically set of instructions for how to build a Gypsy wagon now I'm curious now that you've built several more tiny houses what are some things on that Gypsy wagon that that you would do differently well you know one thing that's always been tricky as working with wood and especially when you're working with plywood which is kind of be the exterior shell is Jesse wagons the process of ceiling that would and protecting it from the what's is such a is such an important stab and it's it's tricky right because there's those sugars a lot of like sort of green grade policies but you want to use the environmentally friendly products ideally worry about things like allergies off gas and people have sensitivities those types of things so that's that's kind of that was a struggle right out of the gate some extended like continues to be one where I try to be like very thorough. CNN ceiling this this this plywood is something that it always found to be a bit of a struggle

A Chat With Guy Gsell, President & Founder of Field Station Dinosaurs
"Now. Let's join a conversation with Guy Gazelle the president and Chief Executive Producer of field station dinosaurs here on those leadership guy. Welcome the show so happy to have you here. It's great to be here. My curiosity is piqued. I have so many questions first and foremost I'm a kid I was. I guess every boy's goes to kind of girls. Go through horseface think little boys go through dinosaur phases maybe right. I was like a dinosaur fanatic. It was a freak about dinosaurs. Now we see more and more girls are into the dinosaurs in fact one of the most popular web series now is Dyno Dana. Yeah that's right. That's right. I've seen that that it had really gone out of fashion have they. They just always consistently popular yeah when I was putting my business plan together and I I was going out to investors trying to convince them to invest in a dinosaur park which is not something that exists you know really and because what I had to sell was the popularity of dinosaurs yeah and that the dinosaurs have been popular so they I sparked the imagination. You're in the eighteen eighties. They were lines around the block right to see the first dinosaurs in in London and in Philadelphia the the biggest blockbuster movie of the of the nineteen teens was was Gertie. The dinosaur which is a which is a cartoon in on the biggest blockbuster movie. The of twenty eighteen was drastic world three. I mean it's just has never has never gone down right. Why the FA- I mean I guess I guess it's intuitive who'd of why we're so fascinated with him because he seems so unreal I guess but what do you think the fascination is around. I think that they seem unreal but they were real and that's the fascination and that's what kids love about them because at an age where more and more things taken away from kids so there is no Santa Claus there is no tooth fairy. There is no Easter Bunny. There is no abominable snowman but but there is this they were real. We never take the dinosaurs away from the kids and the other thing that I think that really resonates with children is they have a shaky sense of time a few days in a while two years ago seventeen million years years ago. That's all the same to a little kid but when you tell them they lived right here so here in Derby we have a you you know a tyrannosaurus which is the kind of dinosaurs that actually marine reptile that lived right here in Kansas Yeah and when you tell them they lived here right where you are that really resonates with kids. They're like Oh. This giant thing was here that I think is what's interesting you so. I oh I think back to that. When I was that age you know eight nine when I was just so every tunnel to the library has picking a book doing learn everything that could about it and this isn't the seventies and when I found out that these lived here and I remember going to one of the I guess it was called the on this fear here at the time it was used to be the old original library and they had you know those fossils of this marine animal lived here and I'm like what you know. This was an ocean just fascinating. It's interesting that you put it that way. Yeah how how okay so. How did it all start so were you fascinated with dinosaurs as a kid yeah I was? I might really really early. Earliest memory was going to the New York world's fair in the in the nineteen sixty five at the world's for ran two years but I only remember number nineteen sixty five to sixty four and they had the the very famous sinclair dinosaur exhibit and I remember that exhibit and being really fascinated with with that and you know my first my favorite book when I was a kid was Danny and the dinosaur the whole dinosaur kids still read that makes me very happy happy and if I go anywhere and I say have any of you have read this book all the kids for his hands so yes now. I did not stay a dinosaur this or fanatic I mean that was something from my childhood that that I remembered fondly search like dinosaurs went ahead kids of my own taking them to the American Museum of Natural History three to see the dinosaur bones Was You know a big highlight of of being a dad for kids that age but I came back to the dinosaurs really when I started working in the exhibit business and how do we get involved in the business. I mean were you kind of looking at your background where you you integrate drama theatre acting. That was kind of what you thought your dream. Your path was going to be yes so I worked in the theatre. My my whole career as of of playwright as stage manager I did. I did some acting I became the managing director of a theater company. I mean I sort of worked my way up what you would call a theater generalist and so I was working at a theater in Red Bank New Jersey in we've did the capital campaign and we built a brand new theater and what happened is that caught the attention of some New York theater producers they were developing. I Am Exhibit Hall in The New York Times building in Times Square and because I had years of theater experience and I had just built a brand new building just done exactly what they wanted to do and almost built from scratch an organization they hired me to come in and and develop Ben. I was the original director of Discovery Times Square so that's how I got into the exhibit business guys in the theater we're going into the exhibit business and they hired a guy from the theater to go into the exhibit business with them and it was in the exhibit business and we did. King Tut and Titanic Harry Potter we did the the largest taurine exhibits that are that are currently out there and in the exhibit business we were constantly doing testing trying to figure out what what what exhibit to bring in next and dinosaurs always scored the highest every every time we did any kind of Nielsen intesting audience testing dinosaurs came in as the thing that was going to be the most popular and it wasn't appropriate. We had fairly low ceilings. Nothing being big enough to bring in a giant dinosaur. We were doing more high end. Shows like King Tut. We did the densities girls the producers didn't I think that animatronic dinosaurs really was a good match with the Dead Sea Scrolls so I got the idea then I said yes I should somebody should go out out there and do an outdoor animatronic dinosaur exhibit in New Jersey and sort of hit me that is actually the most qualified person to do that so in what way why why well I had the exhibit experience. I've grew up in North North Jersey just outside of New York City so I knew the the area. I knew exactly what would happen. I just built a exhibit hall. I had just built a theater so I had a lot of experience launching things and building things so I don wow so. Let's hang hang on so that that nudging that you've got he say okay I'm going to we need to put this dinosaur park. In New Jersey came in a dream and a PIFF AENA calling thing on a train on a journey what if you had to look back in retrospect and evaluate why this calling you think is it because you like the excitement of creating an exhibit. Do you like the educational aspect of it. What do you what what is it So I spent twelve of my years in theater. I spent working in children's theatre. touring internationally with a theater company called the paper. APOR bag players so teaching kids entertaining kids that is something that that that I really like and and understand hand so that aspect of it is very exciting to me. and that's what we do there. I mean in addition to Amtrak dinosaurs we have over forty live chain games and shows and activities that kids participate in so it's. I really did take my my years as a theater artist and combine line that with my experience in the exhibit business and my experience in in administration and and and management and I said I'm just gonNA put these altogether and I'm just GonNa Start this dinosaur park so sitting on the train you felt this was the purpose of calling. It was so strong that you immediately jobbers is something that you ruminated marinated over for quite a while so I not a fool so I was gonNA. Just quit my job I because because I had been working in the theater and had done a capital campaign. I knew a number of people who were both philanthropists but I also knew a number RAV people who were had had done some investing in theater had done investing in Broadway shows and I went went to them and I said to this my my business partners now my business partners then my perspective business partners and explain to them the the allure of dinosaurs and why I thought this would work and I said I need some seed money. I and the seed money was enough for me to quit my job and to scout out locations and try to secure location for the park and to find out more more about the business of dinosaur park because they exist. They're not they're not as big in North America much bigger in Asia and there are many more in Europe than than here it and find where I would find these animatronic dinosaurs and what they would cost and sort of got a business plan together so those investors said yes we. We are excited by this. We think this is great. We see the good work.
Battle of The Brews Live from The Landmark In Glassboro
"The reason why we're here today is that we have a battle the bruise news and we've invited her kyle's invited us to be here and we also have the people from three threes eighty sand. Taco brewing company and ax narrow now and we're going to have a beer off. I guess what we're having more than one. I assume the battle of the beer's battle the beer so we're going to anybody. WHO's trying to beers out there. We're going to see which ones are favor one at two o'clock. I think we're GONNA it will cub cut the two o'clock. You know there's no hard times here not in fact. We're currently forty five minutes later than we thought we were wrong. Jersey time. It's a Sunday. What do you expect. It's a I think it's probably one of the last Sunday's before football so a before Labor Day yeah well. That's true. That's when you know Ostlund. Where most of us live we get our city back. We get our city back but that's okay doc kyle. This is a pretty interesting idea that you had here so tell me a little bit about marketing Americana and their affiliation with craft craft glass bro landmark been here forever. It's really went through a lot of changes since its inception but you know the crab craft beer scene really flew up probably ten years ago and I think that the concept here's all along with that we went from having hope nope twelve fear of domestic threats twenty total realize that there's a huge demand here and we expanded that to be forty draft beers and to have a strong focus towards the area what South Jersey Breweries Tristate Breweries Philadelphia's obviously twenty five minutes away feels local to me. US Asfaw lived there as well so very local but that's really been our been a big part of that. We are going to be a beer. I lace harmonies float around beard. You know we want you to have some beers control the food you know spirits. They have a place here as well but you know I think that the heart of what our concept is is it is about the beer. It's nice to see because one of the things that's happened in the craft beer landscape is that you guys were early adopters this obviously this is. How many years is this for the festival. This is the seventh year so there was kind of a whole here for a long time with people that would have craft beer and I guess with the Robo Abo- innovation that's happened here. There's been influx but you guys one of the early adopters and do a great job with it. I noticed that you have a good representation from all over the state in Philly here which is nice and you know they do have they do have some big name beards that you know that need to have which were not averse to. We are Bir see not script but it's nice to see somebody as big as you guys. It has such a force here in Gloucester County and surrounding area really adopt the craft and kyle. You have a great list of local beers share. A great tap list of WHO actually decides on which Beers on tap is that you have a committee. I'm not that involved in the beer selection here to give a lot of the credits Nikki Nado who is here today he was the one running around getting all this stuff organized for us he does most the selections dealing with the Reps and the local guys play into his taste buds so a lot of credit on that Mitzi great job nick so when you guys are when you start to craft beer one of the things that is a not an issue but is your servers and I know that I've been here a bunch of times your servers actually know how to describe era so as the director of operations that something you guys put in the plan for your for your locations Yep. It's executed properly. All of our staff has to go through a relatively relatively rigorous training all what we offer terms of not just food spirits opinion beer and being able to actually describe the different styles is pretty very important and being able to lead people in the right direction a lot of a lot of novice beer drinkers are looking for certain flavor and you have to be able to know the list we talk yeah. We talk about this all the time so key tell me what tastes like coors light and then direct them to the Water Fountain then but there is. There's something here for everybody. Craft Beers expanded to such a point nine Clark. Even we have an article coming up or would have been out already on non alcohol beer is that are really making a big splash thing. It's against my religion the not Alcohol Beers but what's Nice is I think the breweries all making something that can get the entry level here drinking and looking your tap. Lets you do have those as well for sure. I as I've gotten older. I've appreciated that Craft Beers evolved with my tastes now. I feel like he used to be. How crazy can we make the sphere top going to beat a drink Takao happy. Can we make it. I think a lot of that now is more. What can we make that people are going to drink a lot of lottery. You know six seven beers used. BP had six arrogant bastard. You wouldn't taste for weeks now now. There's there's enough craft beer out there that they're they're making products. That are fun to try. You can have a much of different things and enjoy your enjoy summer day Zoya Winter Day whatever it is and I appreciate that they're they're bringing it down a little bit but keeping the flavor there that's true I mean I like to see a lot of five five and a half's to have a lot of flavor that you can have five or six out and still mo the lawn in a straight line. It's not going to ruin your day. Hey No long sessional. Beers is the big the big new thing we're seeing a lot of cultures a lot of fully flavored. Ip as that are coming coming up forty five percent founders kind of broke the mold on that with all day. I Ta Nea Ri Billick Seven Breweries just off of that brand we see dogfish coming out with the same thing and all all the major brewers following in suit so just natural evolution. I guess to see ready was trying to make some stuff in fact one of our friends at Tom. Foley just has a low calorie one hundred Ed coury. Ida says that he just came out with and so as the market has evolved. There's not just ten breweries. You have to be able to to bring some frog consumers so I'll glassware beer festival. That's one of the reasons that we here as well so tell us a little bit about what's going on with this year. I know that you have a big qasis on Jersey beer yet this year. I think we're we're getting close to half of the total participants being from Jersey. I think a great weekend when you can do it is to go to a town. Check out the breweries that are there. They'll give you a backbone for your trip. Yes really give you can capture that into the the festival where you're like. Why a never gets a you know all these different places from your down to the tip of Cape May up to the up to the North Jersey side the validation kind of give a good representation while those monthly's emphasis sample what they have to offer. I think that's that's good. That's experienced driving towards is trying to grade their like that impossible. We'll road trip in a day yet and done a good job this year. You have a forty five plus breweries. I believe this year. They're coming last minute adults less well. That's that's the nature of the business and the Nice thing guys do too is it's a great area but tickets really reasonable so you had the VIP package that runs from twelve to five that gives you early initiative. That's one of fifty bucks. I mean that is that is a great price. Fifty dollars for a pours two was too. We're doing according to the ABC and that report is exactly two ounce. You have no more and you're you're able to come in an hour earlier to beat the crowds a little bit. I mean that's a great great. Price for forty bucks even income from one to five last four forty five and still be able to sample a bunch of beers. VIP ticket though that's the one absolutely that's a great deal and a lot of people not take my advice but I always say that he should probably start with the food exactly and they may not with a couple beers. You get the food because 'cause you whenever knows wants to eat. There's GonNa be lines there and get the food. Go the way of good base you know cruise the rest of the day. It's all about the base rallied the beating up Tom Claver Day of an article about eight things to do when you're preparing for a beer festival and that was one of them in that was definitely one of them and there's a bunch more. You can get that on the site. Sap or seen dot com but I feel like the people that come in here that power drink for the first twenty minutes to thirty minutes running around. I think they're day gets shorter. Oh yes I think they're ruining the ruined. All the other beers ability. My mind wasted what he just says a Patriot beer festivals right down the ones you want to try after about ten of Milstar taste better yeah especially with all these people are bringing these gigantic cop toward Beers speaking of yours. WE WANNA try coming up to the stage roses Caraba Callahan of Taco brewing company. Everybody here knows him fund bobby and he brought a some beers here today.

"They had six counties it wasn't all south jersey counties that voted on this but six of them did they put it on the ballot it was the same year that ronald reagan got elected was nineteen eighty and all of those it was atlantic burlington cumberland cape may salema ocean all but ocean voted yes now it was obviously a non binding referendum but the majority of people said yes they would prefer to be their own state separate and apart from the rest of new jersey so i want to know first of all two things the south jersey north jersey thing what's there to hate about north jersey if you live in south jersey and what's there to hate about south jersey if you live in north jersey what's the big difference why can't people get along is it that big of a difference is the lifestyle that huge i mean i understand the silly things like well down there they call it this up here we call it sub there it's hoagies all that and the allegiance with sports teams is different and maybe the pace is a little slower and you got the pine barrens okay maybe there's a lot of differences but there's like what's with the animosity though and then i started thinking and i think this is probably going to even be the bigger thing because i don't think a whole lot of people want to have south jersey in north jersey but are there certain parts of new jersey for whatever reason that you just can't stand is there a certain town that you think access to privileged or snotty snooty or whatever your reason might be what are those little pockets what are those little rivalries one town not liking the town over or it could be far removed from you it could be that you know you spend time way up in sussex county and you thought everybody was rednecks whatever it might be so where's the spot in new jersey that you know you got a problem with one eight hundred.
