Trump and Biden hit key states in final campaign stops

"Of the axioms of presidential campaigning watch where where the the candidates candidates are are travelling travelling in in the the final final days. days. And And on on this this final final day day of of activity activity before before Election Election Day, Day, it it looks looks like like Pennsylvania Pennsylvania is is considered considered the the most most important important prize prize and joining us live CBS News Political reporter Caitlin Huey Burns, who's been all over Pennsylvania. Caitlin, Thank you so much for joining us. Hi. Thanks for having me. So you're on the road somewhere in Pennsylvania. Why has the Keystone state emerged as perhaps the chief target here by both the Trump and Biden campaigns. That's right. We're leaving Bucks County and heading back to Philadelphia. This is the battleground of all battlegrounds. President Trump was here making four stops around Pennsylvania yesterday. Joe Biden is barnstorming the state today with this family come alone. There is also here. Pennsylvania is key for a couple of different reasons. First, it offers 20 electoral votes. A huge prize for whoever wins the presidency and also in 2016, it was decided by just 44,000 votes that's such and there are large in and at the margin that help Trump When the White House he's hoping it helped when again, But both campaigns say that this is a very close race, perhaps closer than the polls we've to believe, and the Biden campaign wants to take know voter for granted. They're crossing all over the state today, hoping to get every last vote out. We also know that Pennsylvania this is the first time that they're having absentee ballots, no excuse absentee ballot programming. About three million people have requested an accepted absentee ballots. Um, we've been talking to voters who like this process. Want to make sure Their vote isn't to be counted. You know, it seems like Pennsylvania. Like many other states, It's really an election between the cities in the suburbs and then the rural areas where the president has a real stronghold. That's absolutely right. So you're going to see the vice President Joe Biden, campaigning and places like Philadelphia and the suburbs around Philadelphia, which, as we've seen since the 2018 midterms have shown kind of perhaps a realignment of the parties also campaigning in places like Pittsburgh. The president, meanwhile, has been campaigning in areas that he flipped. In 2016 counties. Ah ah, that, you know that include former Vice President Joe Biden, hometown of Scranton, Uh, that flipped from Obama to Trump in 2016 hoping to maintain those areas support. You're going to hear the president. Talk about oil and fracking. You're going to hear Joe Biden really talk about Krone virus pandemic and making that a centerpiece of his campaign. We talk a lot about bellwether places. What part of Pennsylvania? Are you considering the bellwether tomorrow night to see which way things might go? Well, a couple of different places that we focused our reporting right now. We as I mentioned we're in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. This is a place where the margins have really narrowed in 2016. Hillary Clinton wanted by fewer than 3000. Votes, and you talk to a variety of different voters at a early Dropbox location, who kind of gave us a sense of that area as a key battleground watch. We're also keeping an eye on those three counties that Trump flipped from Obama to trump in 2016 1 of them is a place that we were over the weekend, North Hampton An area that we were walking around name neighbors, neighborhoods with canvassers and finding trumps science Next. If I don't sign their neighbors against neighbors, you could be in the same neighborhood and be supporting two very different candidates. So those are kind of the areas that we're watching to see. It's basically a game of turning out your voters. And that's why if you live in Pennsylvania, you're likely getting calls from campaigns urging UT either Get your ballot in or show up on election Day. Hey, Caitlin, our time is up, So I need a quick answer on this, but Do you agree with this? Thought that whoever wins Pennsylvania wins the election. I think it is going to be critical to whoever with the White House. All

"Amazon for years has offered a service called recognition to police departments here's how it works officers can take a smartphone photo or use a grainy picture from a security camera and try to match against a massive database of mugshots stored in the cloud Adam Scott won is a professor at John Jay college of criminal justice your average police officer instead of having to try to figure out who committed the crime could pass one of these videos to a facial recognition system which will help me in the right direction he says there are many types of crimes where facial recognition technology can help kidnapping missing children Shuman exploitation bank robberies home burglaries but there are big problems with facial recognition M. Acting Is A Calling: Michelle Wilson.

"Please welcome the awesomely talented. Michelle Wilson Michelle. Thanks for coming out today. Thank you so much. Hello so I have a bunch of stuff to ask you and the first thing is like I'm watching you and I turned to. My girlfriend was about to be my fiance and I say to her. I said how am I not watching this actor? In so many more things are casting directors doing their homework and going to theater and doing place because I feel like given your body of work in theatre your abilities. I'm like how. How am I not seeing more of this actor? I mean it's a couple of Jupiter like so. If this was sports people do their homework and draft. Somebody or are they trade for somebody isn't like that innocuous or people doing their homework in talent like yours should be out there for everyone to see. Thank you darling. You know The are I have to admit that I'm a single mother so juggling the single mother actress thing has challenging right and for a very long time raising my daughter who is now in college about to graduate from Smith with a neuroscience degree. Thank you very much. Yeah I know. How do you make a scientist or an accountant? Had them birth by an artist knows that is that Smith College? Michelle yes Smith. North Hampton is thirty minutes away from my house. Isn't that something great great school? Yeah Yeah it was a it was A. She was poppy scholar so she got a scholarship to go. And it's been great and you know the world turned upside down and she's home now so B But Really. She was my focus for a very long time. You know third out in Chicago and was in. La for a hot second with her and her father and returned back to Chicago. So I was a gypsy for a very long time and when I got to New York I came back in about two thousand six. It was on the idea of where would wanna live. I never work again so I got here and I have great friends in right when I got here. Dominique Marie so was an actress in A piece we were doing for the fringe festival and Through that relationship and doing readings and playing with friends Things grew from there but really my career has been about relationships right. So it's a relationship that I had with Rod Gaels Domini Areso and all these incredibly talented filmmakers playwrights. Rights were budding. We were appears and then Dominique had me do a reading when she was an emerging writer over at the public and Heidi and Jordan casting directors over there to to make a big long circle to your questions. They really have been hiding particular. There have been the one that had getting me my career. You know I mean your life in itself. I mean your personal side of it you know you went through a lot but even the acting citing. It's like it's like two different paths but it's the same path because it's like two lives you live your your personal life with your daughter and your family and then the life you have as an actor which is beyond tough. I can't even imagine because I'm looking at some of the things you've been in. I mean that had to be tough to make those adjustments to to deal with what life gives us plus deal with the challenges in theater acting and so forth right. Michelle in any you know I. I think to come the calling. And if you don't have to do it you shouldn't right and for me it's about politics. It's about who gets to tell stories what you get to say. Who can see right so I've always felt like it would be a terrorist and I was up for the fight. This is who I am. This is what I do. You know even if I had to do Straight gigs which I've done for years with Advertising companies in building things out here in New York being a go between between construction companies and people. Who were you know buying huge new spaces? I mean you just do whatever you have to do and it makes you a better artist right. The more well rounded a human being you become a better artist you come so I wouldn't you know I wouldn't trade anything

The Thinking Behind the Book 'Home Coming'

"So homecoming is such an incredible book? And it's already having an incredible impact. I really enjoyed hearing all the different things and actually I listened to the audio book. I know that a lot of our listeners. Love audiobooks listening forecast. Say The audiobook. Because they're really interesting experience to hear the voices as well Tennyson it will a- and about your the thinking behind the book when when I can concept came into your head and what it was like an his first stages of planning a few years ago I wrote a memoir about growing gluten with my Jamaican parents called bad guy at the wheel. By guys. My father's nickname his Jamaican can. He had baggy is an all of his friends equally. Funny Nicknames that define them and they adhere to whether they liked the name or not so there was one man called old shine. Who was bowled? Like me anxious was very anxious. Tidy boosters very fussy but his footwear clock had one arm longer than the other. My favorite was manacled somewhere. And when somewhere came to this country from Jamaica in one thousand nine hundred system light summer suits tropical suits the matter. The weather weather come halo storm and when I thought about writing this book ask my mom. Whatever became of somewhere and she said well he caught a cold and died within a few months and I was shocked by that straightway which she spoke to sit in very matter of fact way had an edge to it but also it was quite a funny and I remember that when asked let's grapple loosened in the sixties all? The people were really really funny. There were like in my mind. CAST members of guys and dolls the Damon Runyon and they were all of my figures. We had no television until nineteen seventy two but they were television and what. I finished that Book Burger at the wheel about six seven years ago now I was wanted to continue it and away. The beginning of homecoming was a continuation of that story story but equally there were books. I read as a young man about Caribbean people in this country especially a book by Sam Cell Phone. Call the Lonely Londoners which is a book about a man called Moses who is kind of meet and greeter. So Kirby America's Dan to Waterloo station or Paddington and greets this carbon pioneers come off the boat train and equally. They have Wonderful characters wonderful names as a character. Awesome Galahad is rather light my car somewhere and when I finished up I wanted to myself. Well what would what would become of those people from the nineteen fifties and sixties if they were still alive today and what were their stories. What was the story of their great pioneer migration to prison? And although there have been books about that I don't think anyone's really interrogated the individual stories. And what you get with this book which is kind of oral history is a kind of an accumulation of similar stories and by that accumulation. You realize there was a bigger truth because sometimes when you hear stories you think that's just a one off when you hear again again again and you realize the experiences and I wanted to to have that kind of course onus in this kind of chorus line because right the way through But also the kind of gives you some of the shape and the contours of their lives from six to the present day and the people that you you chase to feed the book is e. Say An instruction that you you kind of chose intention eaten interview more women than men. 'cause you know those stories are represented. And and also more Chinese these people than Jamaican tell us parents Jamaican and three quarters of the migrants came from the Caribbean were Jamaican. But I right now. The Jamaicans take up too much room in the culture. The make too much noise have to credit opinion on themselves and they're over represented in our culture in terms of books books films music and sometimes they're kind of eclipsed some of the other islanders so I was very keen to address that so if that into more from Guyana kits and I was interested to find out why people ended up in certain parts of the country. So if you're from Saint Kitts you end up open leads. If you're from Saint Vincent in Hiwickum if it from Trinidad you end up in North Hampton and I think we want to these areas because they they were pay people were or their friends and associates broke. Equally is very keen to complicate the story because many of us will see those photographs photographs of the wind rush generation. The wind rush people coming off that ship. Ninety forty eight and the kind of I chronic now these men in Fidora's and zoot suits behind. You ever see any women in this girls but on that ship is often said from the beginning of that story. That now was that the five hundred Jamaican men. That's not true. There are other islands on that ship and the two hundred women on the ship including a woman called Mona. Baptiste's this wonderful jazz singer so I wanted to tell this story but also I wanted to use them to complicate the stories because the women were actually much more generous with their antidotes. Does that much more prepared to interrogate the interior lives and live longer but also in all honesty but I went to interview them. They're prepared to feed me saying that being you played this game I think three hours and the men wouldn't think to feed me and I'll be the on the floor gasping for water a little bit of bread but women would feed me straight away and actually what was interesting to me. I thought began to re revisit. Some of the stories. We're kind of finishing but some of the stores were not familiar. But I heard this story again and again from these elderly people who are now in the eighty s and ninety s had remind. I was on the antiques roadshow. And that what I was hearing were these jewels or this precious antiques. That not been added it for many many years. They've been stored away in cupboards in people's minds and never had a pap form and as an dustin down and reveal them to the reading public because to me they are wonderful rich funny cide. Moving polemical sometimes Philosophical stories that. Give a real sense of the panoply of of of of carbon life in this country. Because I think sometimes sometimes we have very reduced idea about the carribean presence in all honesty. If you look in terms of the archive in film and Television News Pretty Negative and right from the word go. It was pretty negative. People talk about the hostile environment. That Theresa May introduced in two thousand twelve but in my research it was not a new venture. She was very from the very beginning. And I. It's what I was interviewing a lot of these people who are in their eighties nineties to some of the archive of this month. Lockup in the British library the BBC See San Marcos in the BBC people around Archives let the deejay Don Letts had done lots of news twenty years ago. He's archive you've but also I would to my hometown is Brighton. Went to Sussex University where the Mass Observation Archive is held old and in nineteen thirty nine mass version which is so socialist research tool wanting to discover how people live. That was the whole idea of massive station Tau to working people live. What do they do with their money? How they use this time they still go to church too? They gamble. How do they make love but not at thirty? Nine maps vision decided to do a survey about black people. What did people in this country? Think about so-called Negroes in nineteen thirty nine and it wasn't very flattering it was pretty obnoxious really And I wanted to give a sense of what this carbon people who come into because in their minds I say this is true was everybody I spoke. They were a British. I'd even my mom for the book my Mom's from Jamaica and when she was growing up making the nineteen forties she knew how to fold the union flag flag. She could site keats. Shelley Wordsworth automatic pope's by Roach. She knew them all didn't need any book to repeat this poems and she told me that when she went to the cinema the reality cinema and Kingston in one thousand nine hundred dollars at the beginning of the screening of a film people. Stand up to sing the British national anthem and at the end of the screening people. Stand up to sting the British national anthem and I interviewed amount from Guyana. Who told me that when he came to this country went to the cinema and at the end of the film he stood up and such and he was amazing Nubia standing? He was really perplexed by that. So the sense of why they felt Brigitta. So what idea of Britain coming to see if they'd had it had access to these archives from from muscles version. They might have been a bit perturbed but what was interesting also. Is that the British. Sometimes they produce these booklets which they sent out to the Caribbean to give people an idea about what to expect. So there's one booklet produced by the BBC called going to Britain question. Mark as a small pamphlet is western some idea about Codes behavior so if I was to say to nineteen forties forties as an English person and you How do you do? What did you think MSA

Sante Kimes: Mother, Murderer, and Criminal Mastermind

"Is is the story of the original helicopter mother sean take times and her son kenny holy shit i'm about to tell you a story that i got an jay did the research urge for me i got sources from vanity fair article from two thousand by a writer named susanna andrews called sean times mother murderer and criminal masterminds as well as wikipedia murder pedia and sean taes LA times obituary i also last night watched this made for TV movie like mother like son the a strange story of sean kennedy times it's on youtube it's so good at starring mary tyler moore sean times she's amazing she play they like the quintessential like this is the type of person we're talking about like the quintessential mary tyler moore she like out of the box she's out of the box this is not the mary the MTA AMU thought you know she's a she's a schemer and con artist and a weirdly sexual with everybody and it's very uncomfortable to watch our hero mary tyler moore be the key such a villain expressed jean stapleton is in it who if you if you aren't familiar is a great actress she was is it all in the family i stephen yes that's how she's very well know but she is a an amazing actress when you when you see her in another part you're like oh my god she's so good very different and then and gabriel olds plays kenny times and i think he is from a soap opera but he is great so anyway and that made for TV movie was based on the book the mother the sun and the socialite socialite by adrian hill so there's lots of things if the story interests you get down and dirty details in lots of ways so let me let me get into it we will start with a woman irene silverman so irene she's a retired ballerina she was in the new york city ballet accompany member but she was also an elite socialite and she lived with her husband multimillionaire mortgage broker sam silverman in an extravagant seven million dollar townhouse on east sixty fifth street in manhattan seven million seven million in the seventies oh my god yeah and so so she is an extrovert she throws parties all the time she's she's a true social fun yeah right having money she's always entertaining guests has tons of friends canopies everywhere pays can pay an canopy it's even that can the pay can i pay existence so when her husband sam passes away in one thousand nine hundred eighty irene decides that she's going to take their humongous townhouse and and turn it into like an apartment building into basically luxury apartments so on average the rents of these individual apartments go for about six thousand dollars hours a month which in today's money would be seventeen thousand five hundred dollars or an apartment for an apartment in on east sixty sixty fifth street manhattan all right write nana's so her tenants are very impressive and include such luminaries luminaries as the marquis and marchioness of northampton you know i'm reading a phonetic spelling of both of those martian of north hampton danton marcia marcia s north hampton not a martian take me to your leader day-lewis and chaka khan i would together together we don't start gossip but yes they were deeply in love with those with that cast list i'd i pay up to eighteen thousand dollars a month to live there he managed to get a camera installed so i can watch your go downstairs to get your mail and their chaka khan like hey girl what's up you know like thank you wanna go out partying let's party so okay we're going to skip ahead about twenty years after she's established he's beautiful luxury apartments now irene is eighty two years sold on june fourteenth nineteen ninety eight a young businessman from palm beach named manny garren arrives at irene's home asking if he can rent one of his apartments he is traditionally good looking like lou diamond phillips special something you know everybody has different tastes we talk talk about people being good looking at beautiful time but who knows what people like you don't get a fucking say in it that's right traditionally good-looking means if someone drew a picture that's what a good looking person look like right look hugh grant traditionally good luck traditionally good-looking right but there's lots of people who are good looking dapper eh anyhow self esteem he's good looking traditionally well-spoken very friendly very charming i'm very smooth he tells iran he was referred by a mutual friend she recognizes the name oh you know it's all great or the marchioness from it's a yeah it's the marchioness us or the marquess unfortunately manny doesn't have any ID on him can't remember his social security number and the only he doesn't have any other references but he promises he's going to get them to irene the next day and then he gives her six grand in cash for his first month's rent so ordinarily irene there's actually very careful about stuff like this but because they have mutual friend and because he's paying in cash and probably because he's traditionally good-looking incredibly charming she allows him to move in the day of day of fact that okay everyone will and also well ninety eight early days of the internet yeah that's ten and eighty two year old woman wouldn't real absolutely it was all there at our fingertips okay so over the course of the next three weeks manny goes from being a charming suave a businessman type to a creepy weirdo he never turns over the proper ID or references he will not allow irene's maids into the unit to clean which goes along with your six thousand dollar rent ready yeah kind of like hotel he always hides his face from the security camera in irene's lobby show very acorn shell and he always has strange guests in his apartment and including an older woman who seems to be there all the time john chaka khan shocker gone she would shock would never go down she knows creeps when she sees him right now in the mary tyler moore movie that i watched watched she tells when the maid comes she tells her that she is manny's assistant and is very rude to the man so she doesn't make any friends so so basically after the first week irene decide she's gonna ask manny to leave she's like you had your you had your month enough of this he flatly refuses flabby creepy can you imagine that traditionally handsome i am flatly refusing something then you're just like well i guess this is the new reality yeah because the the hawk doesn't want to right well here's what irene does 'cause she didn't take any shit she cuts off his phone line thinking that's going to get him out of there and she begins eviction shen proceedings so she's immediately kicking yourself for being nice yeah which is what happened always a mistake so on the evening of saturday july fourth nineteen ninety eight i arena has friends over 'cause it's fourth of july and they also have noticed manny's strange behavior she irene explains the whole situation and her friends are very concerned and they say you know like do you need help what he wants to do she says that she can handle it they know she's tough as his nails so you know everybody feels okay about it the next morning july fifth nineteen ninety eight irene asks one of her maids if she would run some errands for her and when the made gets back from running those errands she can't find irena anywhere in the house from the made immediately contact irene's business manager who then decides to contact like the police and when the police searched the home they don't find any signs of disturbance there's no blood inside the struggled indicate that there was violence or or an incident of any kind so they start questioning irene's friends and the tenants but manny garin is nowhere to be found and when they run a name check on on that one new mysterious tenant the name manny garin is fake so suddenly the mystery tenant is now possible suspect in iran's disappearance it just so happens that on that same night july fifth a mother and son by the name of sean taylor and kenneth times are arrested in front of the manhattan hilton holton for stealing a lincoln towncar from a dealership in cedar city utah wow yes they finally tracked them down and they get arrested so when a detective who was on the scene for the silverman case sees the story of the crimes arrest on the news he sees kenneth and says that looks looks exactly like the description of manny garin and handsome hey that guy's traditionally handsome in a way that bores me but that but then i also immediately immediately trust for reasons i can't explain so he puts it together that they are one in the same person so on july seventh nineteen ninety eight the NYPD have shontayne kenneth times properly identified and in custody and that's when they discovered that the mother and son are being tracked by the FBI as suspects for a slew of crimes across across the nation including arson fraud and murder okay so now we'll go back we'll talk a little bit about sean times she was born sandra louise sing in oklahoma city on july twenty fourth nineteen thirty four she grows up in nevada with her parents mary van horn and mahendra promising and there's almost nothing known about her childhood factually they believe that her birth certificate was forged forged so her exact origins and even date of birth are they're not sure creepy about it and the funny thing is is mary tyler moore playing sean take himes all she talks about how much she hates getting older and aging it's it's pretty funny so it would make sense that the first thing she does erase her birth sir

"Was yes you we've done this yeah no you can trust us on this okay drill some big holes don't worry about it will be fun okay see just all right good thanks for calling bye bye bye one eight eight eight car talk or one eight eight eight two two seven eight two five five you're on car talk this is julia from north hampton massachussetts i was in hampton just recently you're well i think i was on my way to somewhere else as as i suppose frequently visit us to north hampton are usually passing through and i think i stop for lunch and some little diner someplace it was a cute little town as i recall he says that about every town many towns are cute indeed what's up julia well my i had this sort of car issue my mother one day noticed my keychain and it's got a lot of keys on it 'cause i'm a very important person important people carry lots of keys and she told me that i'll be sorry one day because apparently my aunt also who's very important person had a lot of keys on her keychain and it ruined her ignition because the weight of all these keys on the cable modem i don't believe that i can't believe that would happen my question for you is can that happen and if it could happen is there like a critical mass of keys to carry some keys right tim well it's no to house three four five six office couple of other that i don't know what they go to i got those two i the most serious key problem is not what happens to the keys when they were in the ignition the serious key problem for me is what happens when they're in your pocket i mean women don't have the problem because you put them in a pocket book but men have the problem used to keep them in my pants pocket and keys have shopped edges and they dig into your leg and i was boiler.

"I'm a network tv anchor and a nationally syndicated talk show host the fact that you claim your quote busier than me as a joke and almost an insult you have absolutely no capital and kalou or idea about my schedule i was trying to make a connection good luck in that metropolis of northampton no need for the disingenuous patronizing at the end either wow that was really pretty callous an inconsiderable considering i generally meant what i said even message be pretty incessantly in sending me photos and videos of yourself that i never asked for i sort of lafler your guy absorb i'm so i'm both fair when attracted to you at all by both fairly younger than you in a relationship and not knowledgeable or interested in sports in the slightest and generally just was not interested in the way you are pursuing my attention i also find it pretty ridiculous that you quoted me as saying i was busier than you i never once implied that was billy just trying to express my disinterest in whatever pursuit you seem to be aiming for by texting me so repeatedly i understand what your position is united act like a big condescending by what i consider to be a fairly polite and not at all quote decent jen us and quote way to let someone down nicely and of doing really well in my little metropolis of north hampton so you don't need to try and put me down because i said 'no thank you first of all you do quote let me down get off your high horse for a second i was just trying to connect for a draw thank you make it seem like i was pursuing you as if you were the heisman trophy trophy emoji you were taking immature air quote modeling picture picks with some weirdo in downtown northeast to prevent another.
