"To the low seventies tonight, coming up Pick up the school supplies and have a little fun. Check you traffic and weather together on the H. Julian Rogers to big problems still hanging out from Rush hour 75. North Hall reckon two right lanes. And the backups going to see if they've improved at all. Not really eastbound would all still jammed up pretty much from 35 45 North jammed up from about live oak. Maybe a little before that, so And say it's going to be Harriet best through there. Once you do get through, though everything, of course, looks just fine. No delays in North Dallas Richardson or even Plano, East bound 30 Dolphin. That's another big problem we had with an 18 wheeler. That was stalled out in two right lanes of traffic. And so we're still jammed up through the canyon to 35 e. So gosh, even though we're closing in on 7 30 here, we're still seeing the big backups there, too. 3 60 South construction and it's going to be single file traffic when they when they settle in here. This is near the Mitchell walking Bridge in South Arlington. And right now you do have a sizable backup. That's going to stretch too about Randall. "Hello. Chris. Welcome back. Hi, larry. Are you not nearly as busy as you are but really excited about being here at the show, we're recording this interview on Friday before the show opens. But we're playing it back on Monday. And the doors have been now open for three hours. What are you most excited about for this year show? Well, as you know, Larry show's been growing involving over the last few years and continues to do that. So I think what I'm excited about as people walk through the door for us in particular this year. We've added a whole bunch of new features on the exhibit floor in particular tied to some new emerging technologies some sectors that are really becoming important to us things. Like e sports have a new eastwards experience Hilton on the north hall that obviously is an area that we see having a normal potential for production election, this broadcasters in general, and it's growing a lot. And I try understand it. But you know, as but it is a real phenomenon the enviable experiences another special feature areas well over in north hall, and that touches on just how important the vehicle of the future is going to be as an entertainment option for people. And as that dash evolves as. Autonomy becomes more and more real fears down the line, of course. But we're gonna have a few the actually on there with some interesting connected car demonstration. So people can kind of see ultimately what how dash in particular is going to be loving. So that's kind of fun and the north hall in general, always sort of innovation hub for us. So there's a whole lot over there. We have a and clouds civilian over in the south building we have a five Jeep volume as well in the south building. Again, some of these new emerging technologies where we're trying to kind of up the conversation. So that people can kind of dig in understand sort of what's happening today. But also kind of think through you know, what are the implications down the line particularly things like five G, which you know, is not quite ready for prime time. But his definitely coming. We'll have an impact Chris you worked for the national association of broadcasters. But e sports and connected cars, even five t are far beyond the role of broadcasting. How do you view your role as different from? An be too. Great question. Larry, and it's an interesting balance that we I think have to play out at every show, and we.

"Experience where kids are working collaboratively onto even different levels. You'll have some of the more experienced kids as project managers, and that's been out. It's going to be really cool. Oh my goodness. So it's Monday. It's monday. I think and and you guys just finished back to back toback sessions all in the same room. Thank god. You didn't have to like go places like like to the north hall, which is like to walk from here. So tell everyone a little bit about what you just talked about. If you wanna go through the three three sessions a little bit. All right. So I guess the three sessions were part of the CS firehose. I guess Microsoft. It's parched. It's part has something to do with Microsoft. And I forgive me for not knowing exactly what it is. But so the first session was bringing physical computing to any classroom. Second one was creating in Minecraft you though, Muslim Mike captain code Bill coat builder. And then the third one was our big cooder make code, arcade. Like, what was that called? It's an arcade something. Yeah. And so that's the latest piece of the my make code family. So really it was all about make code which is Microsoft's learn to code tool, which is fantastic, it's free. It's available cross platform, which I love on the physical computing side. I mean, like Cathy was able to show you know, what you can do with the micro bit and the circuit playground. And there are other devices that you could program directly with make code, and then, you know, bridging that next session on Minecraft the things to do with coding in Minecraft with make Kotor pretty awesome. So like think of it, you know, we've got kids already super excited about mine craft. And now, you give them this environment. We want them to learn to code. But why not you know, let it be super relevant to them. So they're coding things to happen in the game. Yes. Which is great and then make code arcade, dictators. Really dug though, we passed around a prototype of a little arcade. Looks like a GameBoy that you can flash the programs too. So kids are. Creating arcade games and actually being able to play him on a physical device. So we're gonna talk about that in a second. But I wanted to talk about I've seen you do this before on Twitter, by the way, we should talk about twitch. This is blowing my mind, but the chickens falling from the sky right is something you've done before. And I think it's so fun. And it was great that everybody. Lively, you get them with that crowd crowd-pleaser for sure. So nothing's purposely save that to the end. Thank you and good night. Without falling from the sky. I was sitting beside Noah, and we were thinking about other frogs and Minecraft no frogs not yet. Because then you replicate that that makes. That's good. So bizarre. So cool, but the device that little little controller those are super cool. Yeah. Yes. Super cool. It's kick it over. And it's so it's so simple. Really? You know, what I mean by today's standards, but it makes so much sense that they were smart enough to make one. But I mean like because it's kind of like, you know, coming. Some like almost like a Maki Maki type thing. But it's, but the beauty is with the screen built in game on it and handing it to your friend. This is the game. I made. I mean, that's just cool. Yes. Yes. So that the vice if people are listening right now, I don't know what we're talking about is basically like a little mini GameBoy. Hey, it's Ross form. Yeah. It is. I mean, there is one available. The brain ring pop. Not pump. No, bring party rain, something not pop. We love brain pop up. But it's not that's not the company that makes this that they do have. So it's improta type..
The biggest tech conference has some of the same old problems with women
"The. The biggest conference in the world has some of the same old problems with women from American public media. This is marketplace tech demystifying the digital economy. I'm Molly would. Today is the last day of the huge Las Vegas tech conference CAS, and it's ending on a mixed note when it comes to gender diversity in the tech industry on the one hand, the consumer Technology Association, which puts on CAS announce a ten million dollar fund at the show to support women and minority tech bound IRS on the other hand the gave an innovation award to a company that makes a robotic vibrator for women, but then before the show even started took the award away and banned the company from the conference, but sex TEK like augmented reality porn did show up on the floor. NCIS still has no explicit ban on what are commonly called booth babes models in skimpy clothes hired to draw attention to company at the event. Let's dig into this in quality assurance the segment where we take a deeper look at a big tech story. Heather Kelly is tech reporter at CNN who was also at the ES. She said progress is just slow like last year. They had a ton of criticism for the all male. Lineup and they did something they went, and they got some like big amazing women to be speakers. And they've tried to cut down on booth. Babes before the rules are a little fuzzy. And I feel like there's been a decline, but yeah, the sex toy issue. It was just them digging themselves deeper and deeper, and they didn't just take back this award. They gave them they also wouldn't let them exhibit at the show anymore. And it created a much bigger problem than just quietly letting be out there might have done. What responsibility. Do you think big conferences like this have to set the tone? I mean, they have a huge responsibility. And it's not just to say, hey, we have rules for the kind of exhibit. You're gonna have and whether or not booth babes, but also codes of conduct for the people there to help women in case, you know, there's Rasmus how do the report it and a believe does have a code of conduct. Now, they didn't always. But you know, I don't know how much any of these things are enforced. I will say one thing about the booth babes. I not. This year. There were also a lot of booth broS. They're like, I don't know if people are being ironic, or what that they had, you know, like young men dressed up in outfits. A lot of them were at the fitness startups. But there's an event called com, which is football teams, and they always have these cheerleaders and this year they had guys in football outfits handing out footballs. I wouldn't really call that a move in the right direction. But is an interesting shift for sure, but yeah, I think I think. Itself. Still have a lot to do to to come in and help women feel more safe and accepted at the conference. How important is this? If you're gonna show case for female CEOs in tech companies how important is it for a conference like this to say future female CEOs? We want you to feel comfortable everywhere you go at our meant. I mean, and it's also like we wanna help you become CEO's so much networking goes down at CS people go there, and they get jobs, and if women don't even feel comfortable early parts of their career, these places it's gonna make it difficult to move up and be the next CEO of IBM. It's huge. It's the largest technology show in the world. It's one hundred eighty thousand. I believe attendees, they have a big responsibility to a pretty big and growing industry. Heather Kelly is tech reporter at CNN. We asked to see TA for comment. It's linked to its code of conduct which says it prohibits overtly sexual tire and the said, the sex toy just didn't fit into any of its existing tech categories. And now for some related links. I you could find a link to that's ES code of conduct on our website along with a blog post by me about my experience on the show floor this year, the code of conduct only says that it prohibits quote overtly sexual tire, but it has no further details for comparison. You'll also find a link to a story from twenty fifteen about when RSA which puts on the world's biggest security conference became the first big tech conference to ban booth babes from its event, it explicitly outlines the kind of clothes and behavior it's talking about. And I think you will see the difference immediately. I also included a linked to a maximum article on the hottest booth babes of CAS 2017, where the magazine notes that trade show models may be controversial, but they haven't gone away. And maxim says it's glad about that. And look I know that sex is part of the tech industry, and I am all for sex pavilion at ES. Where all the tack is welcome. But I can tell you that. I personally don't wanna show up at a global celebration of technology and feel like it's simply not for me. I don't wanna see men in the north hall at a booth showing off a giant party yacht. Jostling to try to get their picture taken with two women in skin tight ballgowns that barely cover anything who frankly, look miserable. And here another woman next to me, say those poor girls and then walk away in disgust. And then realize there are hardly any other women around us and think I just wanna go home. Now, that's not what an industry. That's welcome to everyone looks like this was my eighteenth CS, and I feel like it should be better by now. I'm Ali would. And that's marketplace tech. This is.

"Brand new car guy. Sam wilson. I've known Sam, but a decade or more. I met two thousand ten he's been in Detroit. Oh, that's right. Yeah. That's right. Sam has worked for many of the big automakers right now as a researcher at navigate research. He also hosts the wheel bearings podcast. And he said, hey, you know, you ought to do more on autonomous vehicles electric vehicles car audio. They said, you're right. It's all high tech Sam you're in Vegas, though. Right now. Right. I am in what has strangely enough. Become one of the biggest auto shows in the world. Even though they don't actually introduce many new actual vehicles here. It's mostly about automotive technology CS is starting up tomorrow with actually kinda kicks off tonight with invidious press conference, but really gets into tomorrow. Yes. The north hall just loaded with car, tech and accessories and stuff like that. Yeah. Lots of cross the street from the convention center are where a whole bunch of companies are doing demos of their automated driving technologies and various other things. Nice. Nice. So you just got there. So there's really, and of course, the show itself to show Florida's Nope until Tuesday. So there's nothing much to report. Although is there something you're looking forward to seeing there that will change our lives. Nothing that's going to change our lives like in the next six weeks or six months or probably even the next couple of let's called see. Yes. Nothing comes out till the end of the year. Yeah. Eventually some of the stuff might actually make it into production might be available to buy. But. Yeah. Just to kind of touch a little bit on my first visit to see. Yes. Who's actually in two thousand eight I came out here that was actually when I had my very first drive our virtuous ride in an autonomous vehicle. Eight thousand eight. Yeah. GM brought out the Chevy Tahoe. That one urban. Yeah. Were doing Demel rides in the parking lot here. The gold lot for the convention center. And after my ride I walked into the convention center and walked around the north hall, and I was just totally overwhelmed because this place was full packed with all the audio companies companies songs, speakers and amplifiers, and that's all car. It was all car audio equipment and today when you go in there, it's completely different. You know, it's it's companies like apple and Delphi Ford and Audi companies that are building automated vehicles and building mapping systems and telematics technology and a lot of the stuff that they were showing here eleven years ago. When I first came here is that market is really started to shrink because really. Yeah, we'll because you know, you look at new cars today, you get into any car built in the last few years. Years, and it used to be that they all had a head unit and audio head unit was in the dashboard that was a standard size. And it was usually what they call the skinnier ones were called the din Stanton din standard, and then they had the double din, which was the same thing. But twice the height. And you could pop those out, and you could pop in you could go to best buy or Circuit City in those days, you know, or any number of other stores and buy replacement head units and put in a better stereo, and it would bolt right in you just wired up. I used to be a big business. There used to be a bunch of car stereo, car audio companies up and down our main street here in town. They're all gone because when you look at a new car, I mean, look at your tesla. You can't replace nothing. I can do. With that. That's the way it is. Yeah. Ours today, they have a built in touch screen or built in screen and the dash, and there is no unit that you can replace you might be able to you know, if you went to a really high end audio place get them to put in maybe better, amplifiers or better speakers. But that's about it. So a lot of that kind of stuff that I saw eleven years ago isn't here because no more head ends. But it is important to remember that the average age of of cars on the road in the US today is almost twelve years, which means there are still hundreds of million. There's still probably Neil upwards of one hundred million cars on the road that do have that can have audio systems replace. Well, I think a lot of people are looking to replace their head unit with Android auto or apple carplay. Right because they want that. Yeah. That feature in their. Although man, I I hear nothing but problems with people who have both. I you know, I drive a lot of different cars as part of my job. And my wife's car has. It's a Honda has Android auto. And and does she like plague? Yes, she uses all the time. She's Android auto. Okay. And I use it in all the cars that I drive it made sense because you're going to get your phone updated far more frequently than you're going to get your car updated. Yeah. It has they both have limitations. You know? I mean, the the good the good the upside of it is, you know, you can use your navigation if you like apple maps or maps ways, you can stream your audio really easily from your device, right? And it's it's so you can listen to your Spotify or your Pandora, Google play music or apple music. So that that stuff works. Great. And listen to your podcast. It's really easy to use. But if you have an older car, if it's one that doesn't have one of these really built in systems that you where you can change the head unit. There are options to get that. So there are there are bunch of aftermarket options from various companies like pioneer alpine and Kenwood and Sony Sony, actually makes a pretty decent one that introduced you know, when they when he's after Martin once I came out a couple years ago, they were pretty expensive. They the first pioneers Chaim started about seven hundred dollars and went to twelve thirteen hundred dollars. And frankly, they didn't have very good screens on them compared to the ones that were built in your car. But now they have they have much better screens Sony's got one got a unit. That's I think about three hundred fifty to four hundred dollars, and it has as as a really nice screen in it. So if you want to add that capability to your car, you can you can do that fairly easily. Instead of buying a whole new car, which is a pretty expensive proposition. Yeah. Speaking of playing your audio from your phone. You're listening to Ryan when he called a few minutes ago, and you had the same issue with your chrome cast audio. You said there are couple of programs. It will do this. Besides Google's home app. Yeah. Mo- most of the Trump cast enabled apps that are out there. Don't actually. Local content. They stream from a server, so if you're using Google play music it'll stream from Google Google blaze servers, but there are a couple of apps it will work for local content. One is called local cast local one I use. There's a free version that has ads in it. And you can also get a paid version for about three or four dollars. I think it gets really adds it'll play us high quality ninety six kilohertz audio from his phone twenty. I can't guarantee it'll do the the high quality. But I'm pretty sure it will. But it will definitely play content directly from your phone, and it will also play from. Server in your home, you can play it from there. So she if just got a shared drive on one of your heaters or plex server it'll work from that. And then of course, there's also plex. But that that does require you to set up a plex server, I'm one of your so you would be playing from your phone you'd be playing from your computer that had the plex, right? But but it is coming locally on your local network. Yeah. So it's not it's not coming from somebody else's server. It's yours Ryan still listening. We'll put it in the we'll put it in the show notes at tech guy, labs dot com. So so going forward. Sam's gonna join us every week. You wanna talk about I'm hoping you'll talk about autonomous vehicles. All I know. That's a ways out. Well, maybe not. They're still there's lots to talk about their. I mean, their Waymo a few weeks ago in Arizona started what they launched Waymo one, which is technically their first commercial service here in Las Vegas a year ago, see CAS Baptist and lift started a pilot program, and as of December they'd given over twenty-five thousand paid rides in their automated part of this is just to get people used to the idea. Right. I also just read the door. Dash is going to start doing self driving vehicle food delivery in San Francisco using gems crews platform crews that scares the heck Adamy have you ever driven in San Francisco. I don't know if that's such a good. Good idea. So we'll talk about that. We'll talk about it electric vehicles. We'll talk about car stereo car music. I am so excited. Sam that you're going to be joining us Sam Abdul semi. We'll put his Twitter link in our show.

"But the home app will play your local music's it says through Comcast audio. Try to give. That a try. I can't do it right now. Of course. Yeah. I haven't many Google Chrome cast audio devices because I love him. I use the optical out those that headphone Jack has both analog and digital audio out. So he's the optical out of that into very nice set of JBL powered speakers. But I always stream now that you mention it. I'm always streaming from my because I've uploaded everything into the Google cloud. So always streaming from the cloud. I never noticed this. But you should be able to your right? You should be able to do this. I would I would look this looks like you can cast audio from your Android device using the Google home app. This is all put I'll tell you what. I'll put. Yeah. I'll put a link in the show notes to this. And that way, we'll I'm using analog. And I don't think that matters. It's nice to know that you can use. It's not obvious. But you can use optical on that it's one of those dual looks like a headphone, Jack. But also has optical audio. And that that's not obvious. It took me while to figure that app. I did that. I I think you're going to get you know, digital into the device, which will sound better. If device can take an optical input. And sounds like you have a high end stereo. So I'm sure you can't so parents we'll put this at tech guy labs dot com, which is our show notes website. That's the best place to put it. And apparently if you read this it sounds like you can use it. But you just can't use Google play to do it use Google home app. Which is weird. Give it a try. Let me know because I'd like to end, by the way, thank you so much for the Ken rod seventy six tube, which has been ensconced safely in my hands since you gave it to me. It's great to talk to you again. All right. We got Sam. Halio? How are you? I am great sorry about that. We got you. Yeah. No, no worries. We're gonna play the purpose. Actually, this is better because we have more time we're gonna play that deep purple song going into you. Go ahead. That last caller after that works that I use for casting local stuff either from a device or from my from my local network is local cast, local and plex also works. Perplex you have to set up a server on your network that works with your comb cast audio inter but local local cast will pass directly from your device. Awesome. Awesome. What do you want to talk about today? I think talk talk a little bit about car audio and infotainment and stuff. Yes yet. I just got here. The the show hall doesn't actually open who's day. Right. Tomorrow's the all the press conferences show style. Oh meetings later this afternoon. Says nothing much to say yet from Vegas. Yeah. But you know, what I'll do is intro. My my first visit here, we should get to know you. Yeah. Yeah. And when I walked into the north hall back, then it was all car audio. I mean, it was none of this a ton of driving, and you know, infotainment stuff. It was you know, the the big giant speakers music blasting everywhere. And it's totally different. Now. How interesting we were always in the south hall next to the boom, Bob, you know, the big. Sub wolfer. Yeah company. I can't remember the boom something, and that was always fun. But the but shakers. All right, cool. So hang on hang tight. We're gonna play your theme song. We apparently have decided on a theme song for you. So I hope you enjoy. I I'm not gonna tell you. Okay. Okay. See if you recognize it. And then we'll introduce you, and yeah, we can just we can first time. You're right. We should just chat earthquake. That was the name of it. Scooter X remembers the earthquake sub woofers we're those scooter Expos for cars. I think they feel like those are the ones you put in the trunk right?.

"All right now, we've ventured over to north hall, which I love we don't get to go over here. Too much because things get kind of hectic in the in the main central hall, but I love this area. This is where all the car detail products are car audio is all the cool lifts and just the coolest products around. And I came over here to meet with my friend Jeff from Dina van North America. And. Jeff. Thanks. Thanks for having us. Come over here. Yeah. Thanks for talking to me. And explain what it is that. Then does what do you guys make? So we make replacement head units that look like factor units for desirable cars that are a little bit older. So we're talking about BMW's Mercedes mid two thousand or early two thousands Porsche nine nine seven things. Like that cars where people are keeping these cars. They're they're almost restoring them. Kind of like you're doing on your three. Yeah. Right. But you wanna have modern electrics in it. So we replace the stereo with something modern. It's got navigation bluetooth ipod controls all those kind of things that those cars didn't come from the factory with now, you can get them in those cars, and you can stack up off options onto it you reverse cameras. If you didn't have it if you want car play, and you didn't have it. Right. You could start adding all of those things, right? You gotta inputs outputs. So you can connect amplifiers external monitors the kids in the back backup cameras are such a popular thing. Now, obviously everybody wants a backup camera sky's the limit on what you want what you can do essentially the same thing you're gonna get from an any aftermarket head unit. It's just gonna look factory. Right. So that's the big thing is is here you can walk around this this this floor space over at Sima. And there's a lot of car companies that we know a lot of the automotive the audio companies that we know have some pretty great upgrades in south. But it's different. When the what you guys do you guys wanna do craze to amplifiers speakers hit up any one of these guys James rock. Right. Do you want a new head unit? But you don't want it to look after market. You wanna factory? Look what you guys do is provide basically like an installation kit that goes along with this new head unit. Right, but it's not even a kit. It's all just one integrated unit on the car. We did in your e forty six three. We did we we replace that head unit. If you put a regular, I'm looking right now to Sony banner behind you Sony has a bunch of stuff you can put in there all nice head units. But it's going to be a double din head unit. It's gonna require dash kid. It's gonna require wire harness and ten adapter. You're gonna have to cut up the HVAC system getting out in here. All right. That's right. It happens around here. Anyway, you try to shoehorn one of those units into a car you can do it. But it's going to be kind of a mess. It's going to be a lot of parts. It's going to be a lot of labor. What we've got a kit. That's gonna fit right into the factory whole fill. The dash no extra labor plugs right in the factory harnesses fits in the factory space. So you don't have to cut anything up just plug and play simple when it's all done. It looks like a factory piece. So you don't have to worry about it works like a factory piece. Wow. Get out of here. Good. Okay. So so you've bought up an interesting point like even in my and my m three the unit that you guys put in there. I had bought the car from Adam Corolla this single unit single and CD player, and you know, unite discussed let's let's put in the touchscreen. Let's make it a little more modern. Let's plug in a phone to it. Let's make the phone work. And I you guys came in with a unit that fits the contour of the crash the buttons on the radio and just like factor factory day match everything else that aren't marketing the factory light. All the ambient are all the. And stuff all kind of matches. So you guys have kids for various cars..

"It makes it easy this is the thing i've been talking to radio show hosts that are barely understand adopting this is you can go from a couple of years to hundreds of thousands if you tie into the right influencers tweeting out your periscope message right we've had we've seen that happen and you guys again you guys deal with the encoded of that in the different platforms now for those that have never heard of switchboard being able to go to multiple streaming devices and all that which board cloud something pretty exciting that you guys have been working on what are we going to see with that what would that mean to somebody so you want to be able to think about if you were a television studio or a broadcast facility and you have multiple inputs meaning multiple encoders at different venues are different locations like maybe north hall central hall south hall somebody at each of those areas all sending to cloud to cloud and you can have someone offsite managing where that video needs to go so they can manage north hall go to these certain destination south i'll go to these certain that's the goal is right being able to do that and then that creates a great baseline for potentially to be able to switch and be able to add insert so it's it's a great way for us to start at at a new level and then provide these features going on very excited now with technology that you're seeing here what's something that you've seen that you go.

"I will go on my dedicated missions and i will return that's true you're not going down i am not some renegade maverick so then in terms of the layout like what what is in the central hall what's in the south hall north hall is there like any dedicated gear for each spotter i say central hall is a lot of the hardware brands that we're familiar with whereas it seems like south hall has a lot more post production post a lower and upper is all those weird people who are spending billions of dollars that we don't quite know what they do it's like cisco is there and all sorts of companies with people in business suits doing like deals for satellite distribution and then like tangent doing panels and stuff and avid is up there but followers posts central hose production north hall is vr in the future there you go so speaking about the future i mean one thing we like to do every one of these podcasts that i've been on for the past three years at ab is talk about sort of what kind of trends are we seeing develop at any because really that's where you can get a glimpse at the future of the industry what are you guys things i what i've been calling this year and i don't have a pd short name for it yet but like last year's theme was definitely sent on my gosh right there were like nineteen companies during cinema glass two or three years ago anybody was all about four k like there's always use this year's theme for me is company sion's it's like small hd is all about like oh we have a monitor and it's also wireless receiver and there's like six versions of that and i feel like like the bright spot guy the blind spot guy patrick i'm gonna keep getting your company name wrong he has like a thing where he's like oh so it's like it's a light that goes on your camera but it can also power your camera so it's like everything this year's about like are you tired of having three batteries you can only have one are you tired of cabling.

"Was even more of a headache during that rainstorm than it is during a normal see us which trust me is pretty darn bad it is not easy to get from one spot to another in las vegas during see us all the different arteries are clogged with traffic the rain mess stuff up a bit on that first day but the show must go on and so everything continued though i'm sure more than a few booths were struggling to have everything in place in time for the first visitors walking through the convention center just because it took longer to get to the convention center that normally would then on wednesday january tenth the show hit a more frustrating snag for a couple of hours the south hall of the las vegas convention center lost power the central hall also lost power before a shorter amount of time and this is where a little geography lesson comes in handy the las vegas convention center has three main halls there's a north hall a central hall and then the south halls technically because it's two floors the north hall is where you're going to find most of the automotive tech on display and there are some related technologies like vehicle sound systems and other aftermarket products and a few other things but that's typically what you find in the north hall the central hall is where most of the big big brand names have their booths this includes companies like sony panasonic intel and lg some of those booths are truly gigantic taking up as much space as a dozen or so smaller booths would be southall like i said has two floors so it's a bottom floor and a top floor and has more big names in it as well some medium and smaller sized companies and depending upon the year the southall can also hosts some of the zones at c e s now zones represent general categories of technology in recent years cbs's move some of the zones to a different convention center called these sands expo center but.
