They had some pretty creative signs. I have to say but many of the attendees had signed saying we do not comply and fire. Tom gonzalez again. Now the protest was originally planned against the county's verified vaccine facility program that was announced alongside the county's most recent indoor mass mandate now that voluntary program. Which has been placed on hold for the immediate future allow businesses that required employees and customers to be vaccinated to ignore the basque mandate for indoor spaces. Rather we later found out that even though they jump through all the hoops in order to get that get that particular easement from the mandates that was not grandfathered in to the equation so even though they followed all of the mandates restrictions at least to my understanding while they weren't grandfathered in now the program was actually paid placed on pause following community outcry on october twenty. First just six days. After it was announced on october fifteenth. It was set to go into a fact just yesterday but once again as i mentioned on indefinite hold while the department takes in additional community feedback now. According to a county statement sent out on saturday thirty three businesses that already had their own vaccination mandates had been approved for the program but as mentioned they're going to have to now require at here now adhere to that required mask mandate now..

Gonzalez who is the director of the health department lerma county and the commissioners and other elected officials such as the sheriff and so on Decrying a sign that was painted on the side of a semi truck trailer. That's parked up on north college avenue in fort collins. That says stop fascists. Now i don't know I guess tom gonzalez took that pretty personally that they were talking about the people in his department who were fascist. I i kinda doubt that. That's a sign leftover from world war two But but on the other hand the whole the whole thing is is crazy because he then wrote this this message to all the commissioners and all those other elected officials i just discussed and it basically said that our health department has been providing protection. Great service to the people of lamoure county for over seventy years. Seventy three years is the number that sticks in my mind and and and we find this offensive and hurtful and and this is just something that my dedicated employees are. This is just a real slam at them. They're really good. People were considered best to the community. That that's my paraphrasing of what he wrote and i think it's spot on us to what the sentiment was no indication that that particular sign was directed him well. He even put a picture of the son in instagram. So that was pretty obvious with the b. Sure is well the signed learns there to obviously to everyone's at trailer and so they want it removed. Now the the only basis to remove it is if that particular semi trailer is parked there illegally that that would be but just to take down because the health department people feel bad about it isn't gonna cut it so then The commissioner could shattuck whatever name is mcnally shattuck wrote back and said that the this is offensive. We're going to get with the city of fort collins. It's in their their jurisdiction and see if there's violates assigned code or whatever I'm pretty expert on the signed code in fort collins and there is a limit as to how big assigned you can have however it doesn't cover semi trailer trucks You can put your budweiser as big as you want on the side of your trail. And in this case Evidently this individual has a problem with fascism I guess given the current climate in political situation right now at it very likely could be aimed at people in health department. Though the health department is making assumption here and perhaps it's all of the blowback that came from their attempts to institute for lack of a better term. A what i referred to as a vaccine passports again saying oh no. This is purely voluntary for businesses. And john united talked about that Right as well as soon as it popped up basically they they pressed pause. I'm not gonna say that. Put the kyw bosch on the program. They pressed pause because it is a step on the way toward a vaccine passport. But it's interesting. I guess as you said tempers are flaring. i mean the community. Angry businesses angry Once again it's the ever rotating changing nature of cova nineteen guidelines and restrictions. The for him to take the so personally i. I'm not so sure that well. That's the way he should go with. This would have been better if he had just ignored. Well that's one way but then enter lamoure county. Sheriff justin smith to the rescue. He wrote back and he said that. This is a matter of free. Speech guaranteed by the constitution. This is not something that is considered Hate hate speech It's not something that's considered obscenity. And therefore it is protected by the first amendment. Well okay I i i agree with you in this country. Do not have the right not to be offended. That's right yeah suddenly spot on the and you can't offend other people. It's if you want to. It's not always a great idea. But but yeah you. You can't if you feel strongly offend somebody. He can't hit him. You get hurt and you can't called physical harm to them but just to hurt their feelings That is not a constitutionally protected Right so anyway i. I'm so grateful to justin put some sanity into this whole discourse prone to do you justin. You and i both have a high opinion of justice. I don't know where he's headed next in his political life. But i'm with him wherever he goes so so anyway he put this in so this is just some craziness now. The as i said at the outset the only thing thing that can stop that sign is if that truck is illegally parked wherever it's party but that's not likely because there are a lot of semi trucks naked.

"The headset on. Umpire really really could be out there. So what if he's out there than he's going to be found regardless of if there's other way we are making our foray into youth sports for the first time my daughter who's four. We start soccer next saturday. So i'm interested in how this is going to go but now it begins now. It begins with oscar de going to be. i think i'm going to be the perfect youth sports parent. I think it will be the perfect youth sports parent because i'm not going to be screaming kids screaming at refills. Losing my mind. I just i'm not. She has my genetics in my wife's genetic suggest what she's probably not going to be a professional athlete. No we are going to be. But i'm not worried about me. I'm not worried about my daughter. And i don't know that we're going to get this at the age of four but this is the gateway to youth sports and with us sports you get youth sports parent and there might not be a person that i detest more than over. The top. always angry always losing their mind youth sports parent and you know. Look i mean my daughter's only four for years. I thought i was never going to be apparent. I never thought. I would have to encounter youth sports parent but now here we are. We're going to start youth sports. Just please tell me. We don't have over the top angry soccer mom or dad with four year old soccer. Can i at least wait until we're seven or eight years old first of all. Let's see if jackson likes the sport right five weeks. I don't know how it works. When i mean we're gonna play games. I know we're starting soccer next saturday. I don't really know what that entails. We've bought some shin guards and some shoes daughters thrilled about that. Her favourite preschool teacher played college soccer. And so since then. She's wanted to be like her favorite preschool teacher. But this is this. Is it now this is. This is where i start spending a lot of time around a little league fields and soccer fields which up until this point in my life. I haven't had to do since. I was a kid with next five weeks. We need reports of how he saturday goes. I will provide updates on provide reports. But i just. I'm hopeful that we at least get a few years of. Hey this is fun. It's a fun activity or trying to make friends. we're trying to socialize. We're trying to have a good time. We get a few years of that before we have over the top. Everything is about winning. I'm going to be angry and yell at everybody. Youth sports parent at what age of my kid playing sports will that kick in for me and my family. My parents about six tiba t-ball older of new. I didn't encounter angry youth. Sports dead until i was eleven and it was a dad of a kid that i play baseball with and this do just went out of his way to make as unfunny as possible for everybody and so i have spent the last thirty two years hoping that i would never encounter that again. Now i've gone to a high school basketball games. I watched a game. My buddy shannon is the head coach at north college hill shannon minor and i went and saw one of his playoff games and a kid on the other team. Their dad threw his shoes onto the floor. Now what are we doing. Just imagine being that kid right. This is always been the kind of like parent that i hope. I'm never going be like. That's just. That's not in my dna number two. It's been the parent that i've always hoped to eventually void but now we're starting this so man i ever since we had a kid. I've had occasionally like well. What sports is she gonna play. I'm like right now. She plays with elmo. she's eight months old. Dude i don't know can. Can we get through a year. She walked first before we determine what her athletic future is going to. Behold i can we can we. Can we see if she We get her out of diapers. But as as we've gone a little bit older where she can apply. What is she can apply where she going to go. What's like i don't know man. I just trying to get through today dude. I'm trying to get her to eat her food. Okay trying to get her to bed without being a ninety minute ordeal and you're asking me what sport. She's gonna play what she's thirteen. I don't want out here we are. We're four starting soccer experience than i did kick in chain one time. They wanna put every. I have a friend of mind to this day. We were seven years old. He took a ground ball to the chin walked off the field never played baseball again. Eight years old actually took a ground ball. Bank is playing left. Field just took a book. Bloody tongue walked off the field done with this never played baseball again. Huge baseball fan to this day big cubs fan but still the big baseball fan to this day. So hope yes. Hopefully we're dealing with better and look. I didn't play soccer growing up so they're not exactly going to be counting on. You know when we start playing the sports. That i played i could. I could lend a hand maybe i. I don't know that i would. I would have it in me to be the coach. But i could lend a hand but it's not that i wouldn't want to coach because of the kids i just. I don't now if you're the coach. Suddenly the kind of youth sports paradise seek to not be friends with her or beat. I just. I'm not dealing with that person. Directly be snagged or skyline the skyline after every game. I could do that. I could do that. I'm not even should we play games in four year old soccer. I don't know if this is just the kids. show up. got their gear on. Here's some balls. Kick him around. And we're done. I mean i don't know that we're playing competitive matches at the age of four with a bunch of kids who probably don't even know what they're doing out there. Were basically doing this because her friend from preschool plays soccer and so this is something they can do together. But i just i'm really really fearful that now. The next fourteen years of my life the adult goes out of their way to ruin sports for everybody is going to be a constant presence in my life. I'm all for youth. Sports love sports. There's there there are awesome. More kids played them. But the only part of being a parent that i have dreaded since the moment that i was going to buy found out that i was going to be one. There have been two one would be when my daughter's old enough to drive. Because at that point i just i don't even know what i'm gonna do but before that you've sports or it's not just sports too right. I've been in my life. Subjected to over the top marching band parent. I don't know if my daughter has any musical interest but if she does awesome. Let's get in the band. I have been around in my life over the top and parent brutal to ballet would be fine. I don't know if there is such thing as over the top ballet. Really whatever activities. She's into we will support. That does not matter and obviously me being a huge sports fan sports would be cool. But if i'm around the adult that goes out of their way to and i have friends who i think are this person but i'm not around them when they are that person so godspeed to me a week from tomorrow. I think we're two thirty someplace on the west side. If your kid is on my daughter's team let's please. Let's let's get. Let's get to were over the age of five before we're pairing just can't screaming only the referees and four year old soccer and if they are those folks god love them. I have a nephew. Tanny was in basketball and this is before the pandemic and the parents were pretty good. Parents were pretty good fact. If anything i was like the guy was like you know trying to help them out there. And just from the stance. It's helping him on defense a little bit..

If you're headed on college going north towards away from downtown area Cafe ru orleans mardi does amazing work and she's just an amazing human being and does a lot for the community. Yeah and so certainly a quick shout out to her because her being as are off the charts. But i can't wait to check these out. I mean they sound phenomenal and in. In addition to the classic new orleans style been yea like they have that on the menu. Of course they have an ozark style. Bene which is the classic new orleans style the powdered sugar but the bene itself is filled with arkansas chocolate gravy different. So if you don't know what chocolate gravy is. It's a very southern thing. It's it's basically like it's the texture kind of a normal gravy but it's a sweet gravy instead of savory so it's cocoa powder flour butter sugar typically it served over biscuits but over been yeas. That just sounds really good. I it's a lot of sugar. Be prepared for that. I can see myself going into a rush. I although i don't know about you. I when it comes to certain desserts like that i'm a purist No i mean i kind of like. I like the simple cheesecake. i like. I do like some flavor cheesecakes. But i i like a simple cheesecake and when it comes to as i'm just just give me the regular big and i'll and i'll scarf down several of them now. I mean it's easy to just like have a couple in front of you and you're like i'm just gonna eat one and they're all gone and you're covered in powdered. Yeah so so. They've got all of those options. Not public entities guarded by the First Amendment so they could do whatever they want to do. Now, the same thing apply until 1964 with the Civil Rights Act. And if private business owners living in North College Hill or sharing Beller Cedarville said, You know what? I don't want black people staying here in my place. I don't want black people to be coming into my store across keys at that point, a terrible moral idea. It's it's wrong. So what happened is to Congress passed a law. 1964 upheld as constitutional that if you're a business of public accommodations, plus some other categories, you can't discriminate on the basis of race or gender or religion. So that means if you agree to take the public license of selling vendors, whatever it might be, or you're inspected by the government to make sure that your facility is clean. At one of the accouterments of that is that you will not you will follow the Civil Rights Act of 1964. So up into that point. If you owned a store, you said, I want a bar People of Asian descent from coming in. Well, you could legally do it until 1964 bad business idea, but it was. That's the way it was over the last more than half a century. Private businesses have a menu of federal laws they have to comply with one of them is you can't discriminate on the basis of race, sex or gender. Now, in the case of Twitter, they're not discriminating on the basis, they're discriminating the basis of political opinion. Which is not a protected category and over the years, disabilities been added to the category 1991. So there's a few areas that when you conduct private business, you cannot discriminate. "Father versus son, How did How did this matchup come about? Is this something that was put together with the thought your son could be a varsity player down the road? Is this an annual affair? Sometimes it's difficult to to make some of the game, so I figured Well, that would be a night that I wouldn't miss it game on. So selfishly enough, you know, I figured Hey, look what we play, and so is freshman year we played it, Scott. Nationally played North College and we're going to play Northcott until this year and then let them be senior night there, but it's probably best now that we flip it a little bit that way. See your night's not of emotional night and he'd go out there and enjoy that game. And there's some other things going on, too. You know what covert and then? And so I think. Um Scott Stephenson Santo third James, where you know, sent tonight. It's a little bit less, but it comes the fans. And so it just was better this year to make that move. You could do all the Google Google meats and zooms and all that stuff that you want. You know, we started off five and won. And now we have a pause and we had to just keep hoping the guys up. I had a face time I had to call him had to pump him up. You know, you can't go really go see him. You gotta protect yourself. So it's been really difficult it has. I mean, it's It's one of the things we're like Mitchell, you know they've only played. It's got hateful, three games, and then you have some school do play 13 and seven Hills High School hasn't even practiced yet. And so there's just that disparity there and it's extremely difficult. I feel so bad. Kids right now, my own kids for Scott kids for the North Council kids because my experiences growing up of high school and college where the absolute best of my life I wouldn't trade for anything that camaraderie with the guys and the coaches, the cheerleaders, the student body. They don't even get through the experience that this year you know, it. Just it really puts a damper on sports. A new season wasn't a lot of fun last year because we had obstacles and that it's just hard, you know, And like I said, I really feel bad for the kids. I hope that they could have a strength ease, and I hope that the basketball team Have a state German and my goal. Is that the kids and get 15 to 20 basketball games and I don't know if that's gonna happen this year hope that they can A great catching up with you. I know you're busy. Always love talking with you. I have to actually call you in the bathroom, so I don't get beat up in the house. Oh, yes, I'm ready. You know, it's it's weird, but it's fun. I think it's something that will look back at As we get older, the family gets orders. Mitchell gets older and the kids get older. I think it's something we'll look back at. And, uh you know, we did. We get breaking rights for a year. There's a lot of fun, no matter what we win, and we moved. So it's just a matter of how you handle it after after the game, I know I know how much your your dad meant to you and still means to you. What? What's it mean? And you've coached your kids as they've grown up? But what's it mean to be able to coach against one of them on Thursday night? You know, I think my dad has a lot to do with that. You know, I think about my dad a lot and he has a lot of influence and impact on some of the things I do now and And I never got the coach or play against my dad. And so I would get the coach with my dad or upstate for my dad. And so, you know, I think this is something unique and different where most kids go to school with their parents. This is, you know, total opposite work. No missile goes. It's cotton. What it is. It's a lot of fun. You know, there's you know, it could be never breaking a little bit. But like that said, even if you win, you lose, and even when you lose you so you can still win because You know, that means Scott wins. All right. Pretend pretend you're it. You're it practice this week in your game planning. You're getting your team ready. What is the scouting report? What are you telling your team about your son number one, Mitchell. You know, he's got a really good work ethic. He works extremely, extremely hard on his craft. And on his game. You got to keep me in front of you because you can help the basketball. Even true Point guard. He can handle the ball. He could shoot it obviously taking a lot of shots in the off season, But you gotta keep him in front of you for sure. He's little be short so he can use his speed and quickness to get by. We gotta keep me in front of you. Give me an idea because you are. You're a sports. It's a potpourri of sports in your family. He's not the you and he are not the only ones who are sports inclined, are you I'm like CeCe and I have no state titles like my wife. I have no no championship. We'll have a couple of championships. But my other kids are well, you know that one play soccer one plays ball about one plays basketball, So we have a wide variety and so I think it makes we're good household. A good nick. Because when I don't hold it focusing on one sport, how have you is this talked about in the house? Is it dinner conversation? You guys just go about your you do your thing He does yours and you'll see each other on Thursday. Well, here's the thing last year, coach Romeyer from Scott said. Hey, look, called my wife the next day and said, I don't know if it's but this is a good idea to do because you know it gets a little emotional, just like it would if you had, you know, my dad grew up with eight brothers and sisters, So you know they're always fighting the house and they were always arguing between you know who's the best of this? And that's so like. No, I think there's some bragging. I think there's some division within the family. You know, everyone's gonna root for Mitchell, which is great. Like I said, if they win, I mean, he's having a good game and his team's having a good game, So I'm happy for them if we win. That means I get breaking rights for another year. You just gotta be careful with it. You know, you gotta make sure it doesn't get to the point where you know gets worse. You know, in the house, I don't think it does. I think you know he understands how much I care about him. And the rest of that, You know, rest of our family. I rebound form all the time. Take him, you know camps and did all that stuff He was growing up. And so you know, I coached him through grade school and middle school, You know all the way at the high school, So you know that I coachman a Yuhas. Well, now he gets to hear a different voice on the sideline from his coach and then get the coach and play against us on us on Thursday night.
