"In the North Beach library. I took about 40 minutes to walk there, I guess. And it was very pleasant. I was there eight o'clock in the morning. There are just a handful of people. They're voting. There were some people across the street and they didn't make a lot of noise They had signed, but they were very fine. Wait a minute, You walked 45 minutes to get Teo the early voting sites. So you voted all sweaty and stinky. Yeah, I was all sticky and sweaty Turn. Walk back. I like that. Have your mask on. I imagine. I did when I got there, put my mask on, and, ah, you know, they had had some thinking, sanitizing things your hand when we walked in the door and when you walked out, which is really nice. How to use their well. I didn't bring a pen. I should have brought one. But in Miami Dade County, they won't give you pain. They're giving you one of Broward County brother. Once I went and voted for the primary, they hand independent. It's like it's like wrapped in plastic. Yeah, so they hold the plastic so you just pull the pan out new, you know? Of poll worker doesn't touch the pen it all and then you take it with you. I got in my car. Yeah. No, it's a nice It's a nice day. I got my sticker, though. I didn't get a sticker, so I voted, so it was very nice, but it was a pleasant experience. I walk, you know. I thought, Let me go do this now, And it was my wife voted a couple hours later and she had a wait for just 15 minutes or so. I wouldn't know one end enough Big butt. But I got the early on a Saturday morning. I thought this is the best time to vote. And it was it was. It was fine. The president also voted on Saturday morning. Yeah. "This week we talk about fighting fires twice a week. A firefighter dies in the line of duty. Heroes sense of the word firefighters spend their lives, doing gritty dangerous work, wearing down their lungs and their bodies, so that the rest of us can have safer lives the biggest fire in recent San Francisco history began with just a few wisps of smoke from the top story of the building right here within a half hour, the entire structure was engulfed. Here's how it happened beginning with the first call to fire dispatch. Construction. East of Los Angeles more than fifteen hundred firefighters are facing walls of fire, eighty feet, tall, hot, dry gusts, or whipping up fire tornadoes across brush, Brittle from drought. Firefighters a frontline responders in the battle against climate change whether it's fighting raging wildfires or helping urban dwellers overcome extreme heat or rescuing victims of rising seas, firefighters, a who we call on. What is less well known that? are being exposed to toxic soup of chemicals from melting screen TV's and nylon carpets each time they respond to a residential fire. I talk with Tom O'Connor. Battalion Chief in San. Francisco's five. The poppin as well as one of the directors of the San Francisco Cancer Prevention Foundation about how firefighters a leading the charge to clean up. One Community at the time. I stopped by asking Battalion Chief O. Connor how long he's been with the San Francisco Fire Department. Had Been a firefighter in San Francisco for roughly twenty seven years until one attracted you in the first place to becoming a firefighter. ability to help others and engage in some sort of civic duty that I wanted to serve the community and as well as a kind of drifting between jobs. At that point in my life I thought I was going to be a college professor and I was in Grad. School Davis and this job came up in San Francisco, and I thought well. Maybe I'll do this and make our way through Grad. School before I get my Phd and twenty seven years later and all but dissertation, but one day I'll go back and finish up. What what was on Tom. Science that's pretty amazing that you made that switch of that time that you thought about being firefighter before and the first and the family come from a family of new. York cops and ironically enough My mother's an identical twin, and both sisters gave birth at roughly the same time, and my cousin is in New York firemen and I'm San Francisco firefighter. So yeah, we both kind of follows similar career paths in life. We're in an interesting time as it relates to public service and firefight is still revered, and you'll everyone's local hero, whereas the police are going through a rough time in terms of public perception, and and frankly the behavior firefighters are very fortunate in that. Every time were called. Were there to help? We don't give out tickets. We don't arrest people like there's no. Negative outcome of a visit from a firefighter. We know that the public call us at their absolute worst moment, so we make sure that they have absolute trust in us if they call and they want us, there were at their lowest of low. We WanNA. Make sure that's a very non-intrusive private visit and we WANNA. Maintain that trust so if they opened their doors stranger to. To come in and help we WANNA make sure that they always feel welcome to open that door, so we're always in the community talking to people and we make sure we follow up on the clients that we do visit for Medical Paul or fire call I mean we really nurture the relationship with the community, so it's sort of an oral tradition that's been handed down. With virtually every fire department in the nation, that's you maintain that that level of trust in that relationship with the public and one of the things that's unique about firefighters is you'll live together I mean it's more like a family. You're going back to your family of firefighters. How does that shift even work at one twenty four hour shift, and usually you're off for forty eight hours, and it comes to forty eight or fifty six hour workweek. But yeah, it is kind of a unique social experiment where you put all these people together for twenty four hours. We have meals together and us. You know live and fight and work together, and it's like any family. You'll have fights. You have disagreements and you make up and you come together, and there's high points and low points, but. You make it all work. Some people say we put the fun and dysfunction, but Like it, it's a it's a great experiment and is really an enjoyable profession especially when you put that family aspect together, and where's your battalion Tom I'm battalion one which goes from downtown, San Francisco Chinatown North. Beach all you over to the wharf, so it's a big busy battalion. How many? Do, you have We have roughly seventy firefighters this battalion every day, so it's five stations and I get about six thousand runs a year so I don't know how many would get with all the engines and trucks put together probably in excess of ninety thousand calls a year amazing. It's huge. Yeah, we keep busy. It's really slowed down now with the pandemic because downtown is emptied. So, there's nobody to call nine one one anymore. They're all sheltering in place somewhere

California moves up primary, wants bigger impact 2020 vote
"So California wanted to be more relevant in the democratic nominating committee process and they've moved their primary up right so now we're gonna be voting on Tuesday on super Tuesday for the first time instead of in June what sort of impact is gonna have on the racetrack let's start with you well I think a lot of people are just thrilled to California's if relevant this year more so than if we had our primary in June which is where used to be you know that the nomination is still up for grabs in California has four hundred fifteen delegates up for grabs in particular that's that's gonna have a big impact the problem with California's it's so expensive you know to campaign here and so we've seen the candidates come here raise money but not too many of them have really been here campaigning except for like very recently and so they're they're spending time in Texas and other places where there can they can be on television for less money no and I think another reason was moved up is perhaps to help California candidates like Kamala Harris and perhaps Eric Swalwell they dropped out and so you have to say that you know in in I think if Eskom Herskovitz help make California more relevant she would say no and there are a couple pulls out this week that show that Bernie Sanders certainly has the lead among likely democratic voters here in California it can anyone take that away from him or is it just has to win at this time I mean look after twenty sixteen we don't make predictions on an X. ray I think that it would be very surprising if anyone were to beat Bernie Sanders however as you said it was with Warren is in second and not change research KQED poll she certainly stands if those numbers are right to pick up some delegates which could help her momentum a lot of people who have gotten their vote by mail ballot sixteen million were sent out or holding on to them way later than they have in years past including if you look at people who analyze this like Paul Mitchell says that that includes people who are very consistent voters so it's not as if it's just like people about their ballots and maybe they're not gonna turn them and it does seem like they've been waiting to see these debates to seem about it to see South Carolina so I do think that Joe Biden you know what happens in South Carolina could really help him stay in this race I think if you're Bernie Sanders or Elizabeth Warren or Joe Biden you might hope that the other candidates are cold and it comes at a two or three way race after super Tuesday but there's still a lot up in the air at this point the big question too is can't other how many other candidates are gonna hit that fifteen percent threshold because in order to get any delegates in a congressional district or statewide you have to get fifteen percent so the more that Bernie Sanders gets the less of the pie there is for the other candidates to divide up so you could have a situation where Bernie Sanders if he reaches forty five fifty percent of the vote no one else reaches fifteen percent that would be a huge win for him but I mean everything because it is absolutely right in terms of how hard it is to campaign her expensive it is but let's be clear it's February you know Mar almost March third there months ago well but also like if if this is the primary was happening in June in California this nomination be locked up so we are relevant we do matter we just don't get the same attention they get in Iowa New Hampshire South Carolina because there's four forty million of it all the more relevant because were earlier absolutely and I think that you know you're seeing in terms of both the attention we're getting from the candidates but also just from the national media for once let's turn a little bit and talk about property can you tell me a little bit about what this will do and what's significant about research yes this is a measure that's kind of been talked about for a long time in San Francisco it would essentially penalize folks who own properties that keep about street level vacant storefronts are talking about commercial properties and this is really been a problem in neighborhoods including North Beach are are we are other commercial corridors it's interesting because this is one of those things that I think you know some property owners aren't too happy about the ideas you get taxed if you leave it vacant if you fill it you're okay you don't have that tax the money that would be raised would go to small businesses you know people against it say why are you making it even harder retails already suffering but I think what's interesting is you look at who's lined up on in support of it and the town that doesn't agree on much the mayor is on board the more progressive supervisors us poorer the chronicle endorsed it it's less controversial than I would have expected and is this Scott because of the flight that we're seeing with I think so and you know I just friends just anecdotally when I talk to people who have been in that place for many many many years harvest market on on Market Street for example they were there thirty years and the rent got doubled and that's storefront is still vacant it was over a year and a half ago and so what happens is you get homeless people you get blight it's better to send a looks bad this less inviting to people want to go shop on that blocker in that neighborhood and so you know I think that there's just a concern that it's it's are these languages being greedy waiting for a big chain store to command or a bank or something like that who can afford these top dollar rents and what's even in that that's the case let's make him pay something for you know for that sort of work it out it's a small business and enterprise yeah right right so we do have South Carolina coming up and so talking about South Carolina Joe Biden certainly has to win in this state from everything he said really do you think there's any chart for him if he does not win South Carolina can he move forward he really needs to do well I mean he has said very categorically I'm going to win South Carolina and you know he needs that moment it's a first of all he's been staking problems chips on South Carolina show the African American vote is going to be really a firewall for him and then going into super Tuesday that would give momentum to some of the other states like Alabama Tennessee Texas you know where they're more African American voters and I you know if he comes in second or just barely wins in South Carolina just be more consternation and anxiety among the democratic insiders like but I think maybe some pressure for him to get out but that's gonna it's gonna be a tough call but if he does really well it could sling shot him into super Tuesday that really well means winning it doesn't seem coming in one close by a double digit margin I think that that is the key here he has to not only win but win big and he has to really show that he has that support from the African American community and I think other communities as well because we know this year that communities of color women of color in particular are going to be key if Democrats really want to be a take on trump and beat him in November and has Joe Biden been able to solidify any of those groups with the when the women of color around him well I think if you look at the polls he's doing exceptionally well among African American voters but interestingly California billionaire Tom Steyer's actually cut into that margin he's been running a lot as we talk about triage he has really put his chips on South Carolina as well I'm I think that does raise questions and I think the splitting of the vote amongst the more centrist candidates is really making it hard for some voters to make that call do they go with Bloomberg with his deep pockets so they go with you know Joe Biden who they know it's certainly some younger African Americans in South Carolina really likes tire yeah I think there's a big generational divides Marie's this point you know a lot of older African Americans really like Joe Biden was younger ones are like more open to Bernie Sanders Tom's tire one of the younger candidates a few words before we go corona virus suddenly putting health care front center well I don't think it's gonna scare people from voting but it you know we see what's happening with the Dow and if the stock market tanks further in the economy begins to really have a hard time even that takes away one of the pillars of Donald trump's argument for being reelected and that's where it could have an impact we just don't know where is where it's going and where it's going to be come the fall Scott Schaefer and Marie's Lagos thank you so much for being

"That vehicle. You'll hear all about it coming up later on this hour. We've been covering the San Clemente vagrants for quite a while now and finally, the city council did something last night, they held a meeting and they voted for nothing for an emergency or urgency ordinance is what they call it. They're going to declare a health emergency, and use that as a pretext for moving the vagrants along north beach, and the metro station. And get them to a tent city that they're going to set up on city land. A public campground is what they voted on. We're going to bring on lower Ferguson, apparently was another big crowd last night, and all four members of the city council apparently approved this plan. But we're going to find out more specifics now. Laura, welcome. Wait, hold on be with you again. But yes, last night, we had an wonderful crowd of over four hundred people estimated. So that was that was great to see everybody come out and a lot of speakers, and voice, their opinion on what they'd like CB done. And we actually had this item on an open session, rather than closed session. So truly truly Representative voice of the people to show our strongest resource something done. This tent city where is it is it close to residential areas? It's across from a residential community called sea summit, it's a newer, residential community that's been built. There's still some home. Still be built that Bill over the last probably three or four years. But this this isn't a permanent solution. This is a temporary site for us right now to comply with our urgency ordinance okay? Explain that, what the tent city. What is it next door to what is it? Oh, next door to, oh, yes. Let me tell you that currently we have the largest number of accountants, intense in the north beach area, which is at the end of PICO at what we caught up with our Coast Highway. So just up maybe a mile from there is, if that is you home, and then a vacant lot, and then the city of Clementi's maintenance and utilities yard so it sandwiched in between those, it's about a third of an acre, and it's currently being altered, so that we can put decomposed granite down and some lighting. Is it to normal people living in their homes? It's across across PICO so across the street is the star is a corner, pretty much is the corner house. There's some houses on the corner of those people feel about this, I've received emails from a couple of people residents who live there, and they're not happy that they just wanted to confirm that certain measures would be taken, and I did inform them that we would have standard operating procedures. So to state go out the hall and drugs and trust trash be finding on profit to make sure that all of those rules are being followed. So you're going to be policing. This new tent city to make sure no one is doing booze or drugs. Well, we have to make sure yeah. It's we have to make sure that's the case. To keep everybody safe there, too, and the surrounding areas. Well, okay. Now when the vagrants find out that's the rule and they start wandering around town, then what because a lot of vague rinse don't wanna go into these shelters or ten cities because of rules. So what? Right. This is a chess match. What's the next move after that? Well, we've cleared it with we meaning the city attorney of thank Lineas cleared it with the county council that we could enforce our anti camping laws. So there's no, log is walking around town or going to the beach, but camping in place, we can enforce them, anti camping anti because because you're giving a tent city you can force them to move along, if they can't anywhere else. Yes. Absolutely. So we designate the area and we offer that for them to move their tents and the sheriff's department, help the city and relocating those who want to be relocated, and those that do not wish to go. We'll have to dismantle their tents now do the police have the power to enforce all the normal laws. They always do except for the Thai camping ordinance that now that they've always been able to enforce the laws of doing drugs and public intoxication defecating in public and so forth. However, do they. Yes, they do. Well, with cutting plenty of feedback to the contrary. I know they say that last night to well, there's a discrepancy there, you're saying they have the power to do that. And then the femur saying, well, they don't do that, right. We don't have enough deputies. That's a big problem for Clementi. We have the highest number of calls in south launch county and the lowest number of deputies. So that's a big problem. We have our budget workshop tonight, and I will certainly be demanding the ad deputies to our police force. So what have you don't you don't have a local police force? No, we do not. That was told in early. Nineties, the we contacted the sheriff's department because our city was on the verge of bankruptcy back. Then how cooperative is the sheriff with your requests? I think they're they're, they're very cooperative there. They, you know, it's, it's frustrating for them as deputies to not be able to enforce laws 'cause you know that's what they're trying to do. And what to do and keep people safe. The homeless saves the what is the what is the distance between this new public campground and where they are now near the Metrolink station there at north beach. It looks like it's pretty close on this map. We were sent it is, I want to say under a mile people think they'll just wonder back to north beach. And hang out there all day bothering people. Well, we'll be able to enforce anti loitering, live, too, so people can't be making trouble and stay, you know, camping out and so forth. So just like anybody else, and they can't be bothering people will be able to, to enforce our laws because everybody this may sound like a funny question, but has anybody talked to many the vagrants yet and told them that? Come friday. And I think you're hoping that Friday will be ready that you're moving over there with your stuff. I haven't followed up with the city yet. I'll be there in about forty five minutes, I'm to be able to find out, but I'm not the side is being prepared and they'll cost about little over fifty thousand dollars to do so. So that's being prepared at the moment. We're hoping to get started on that Israeli Friday. Ask you is there a plan going to post signs or anything to let the homeless people that are at north beach, there know that there's going to be this place less than a mile away where you can go and pitch tents? Oh, we'll utilize our outreach on mercy house outreach coordinators, and the sheriff deputies and they know they know who, who the folks are, who are camping and who are homeless in town, so they will assist us in that endeavor. And anybody who refuses to move will be arrested. Well, probably the leave they'll probably go somewhere else rather than be arrested because they'll be given a given a choice. But if you see them camping you can now, obviously, you can enforce the anti camping law because they now have a public campground at this supposed to go to absolutely. So they have refused to move there. Can't where they're taking up residency. Absolutely. Because they'll be breaking the law at that point, where does this tends to the idea come from. Well, it, it came from just, just considering, you know, the immediate action that we can take and I actually mentioned a couple of different options two months ago like temporary solutions. And then there could temp down being followed up with the county on this law to see if we can do this in the interim until we can get Kemper, emergency shelter in place. Because, as you know, last night, we, we didn't have any new ideas from the city manager, we had a report from the city of Costa Mesa, and the city of custom describing with their self shelter operations are about and how much they cost. So and other people came forward last night, citizens, we're talking about various tents, and modular buildings and so forth, that we can do for a lot less than two point one million a year is the number that was because this is this isn't a full on shelter. So no, this is not just doesn't qualify. As a full shelter. Not at all. It's just a it's just an interim solution for us while we figure out what we're going to do where we're going to place, this Kemper area emergency shelter. In the meantime, we'll also work with our neighboring cities on regional approach hoax gives me so that we can band together on that and work with the county as well to help on that. All right, Laura. Glad to talk to you again. Thanks for coming on. Thank you so much to by Clementi city. Councilwoman Laura, Ferguson will open up the phones. Anybody in San Clemente wants to come on this new plan to put a public campground less than a mile away from where the vagrants have been hanging out at north beat San Clemente and tell them that's where you got to go. Pitch your tent, no more pitching tents all around north beach area, one eight hundred five two zero one five three four. We got a thousand dollars for you coming up in just. A minute or two. "We make plans to take the John and Ken show to San Clemente. And north beach should be the north end of the beach. Nothing gets by you. You're Mr. GPS neighborhoods. Did call themselves names like that. That's why I don't want to be confusing to people that don't know. We are actually in San Francisco. There's a neighborhood called north beach. We know where it is. You probably don't I do because they have all the really good Italian restaurants for the Italian restaurants are north beach. Okay. Which has more homeless the San Francisco north beach of the sink, lamenting speech. I know is in San Clemente. There's two things going on. I don't have a census count for the homeless. They're people reached out to us and said, it's the problem. I believe them 'cause they're sending proof right? If sending video they're sending pictures, they're going after their city council. That's why we're helping them because they're doing something like John stupid west side. Sorry, we're staying out of it. If only you can stand up to Mike Bonnin, what's the point? But people in San Clemente going to fight we're going to fight with them. Whether it's to vagrants or ten thousand it's probably somewhere in between there. John good enough number for us somewhere between two and ten thousand that sounds like a government estimate. That's pretty one are those government. Studies usually produce those kind of annoying and frustrating is that the the government there has clammed up. Raise about to bring us an Email. We tried again to get a city council person on the air name is Laura. Ferguson cushy put a message on Facebook saying at least she wants his brought up tomorrow night city council meeting. It looks like they won't even let people who come to the council meetings up on the agenda. It doesn't come up. They just want to ignore it. I know why. Because they all embrace the homeless. They feel sorry for all the vagrants. And they think it is rude and mean-spirited for people to be carrying on like, they are intolerant to be intolerant. But they don't want to admit that in public. They don't want to have witnesses and recordings proving that that's how they feel because they're all so cowardly. So they think you're supposed to live of all the filth and the needles in the feces, but they're they're not going to admit it out loud. If if they wanted to get rid of it, it would have been. Gone by now, they don't want to get rid of it. There's a lot of homeless activists who preach all day and night that you know, these people are entitled to be living out in public, and it is wrong to us wrong for us to judge them and impose our standards on them. And that's what you have in the city council. You voted for these idiots recall them, they're not going to change their minds. They're not even gonna talk about it. They just want to avoid getting getting publicly pilloried and the other part of this is showing how gutless they are. Well, we got sued. So therefore, we can't speak because we're not allow dodge that you could you could announce how you how you going to get get the homeless off the streets nine the prime reason. Because that's what most politicians are. They're frightened. And they listened to dopey attorneys and consultants and advisers, and they're like, oh, you can't speak about this. Because this is all under court action. You might say something to get us into more trouble. I'm saying you could announce how how you're fixing the problem because it's fixable. Because most cities don't have this all you have to do is get the shelter beds. That's the answer. Once they have space for the number of vagrants. They gotta go kind of simple worked in the Senate, Anna riverbed, working at other places. I'm really how long does it take to acquire a building and furnish it with a few hundred beds? Yeah. On that not long at all. I mean, look, look what the military does in a matter of days or weeks whenever they have some mission to go on they set up supply lines, and they set up tents and beds and medical centers and logistics operations. Anything can be done. You just have to do it. You have to wake up in the morning, say, okay. This is what we're accomplishing. But these these slugs and slobs on the San Clemente city council. They don't care that a beautiful beautiful town is just being defaced and desecrated and and by their incompetence. They don't care. The residents have been sending us pictures. And as I mentioned video apparently over the weekend. There was a confrontation as it was yesterday morning at north beach looks like some of this Clementi people were trying to check out and help clean up filth left behind by some of the vagrants and one of the vagrants became openly hostile and went after one of the same Clementi residents. We have about eight seconds of the video. But we've just learned that this person the San Clemente man who gets assaulted in this video, which you can view on our website is going to be coming up after the news at two thirty. But let's listen to this. No. Saw different. I know I'm having a frustrating day here. I don't know. What's wrong? I watched the video, and it was.

"Org about the vagrant problem in north beach insane Clementi and today, our own reporter corporate Carson visited you probably just turn the news report that Moore played where homeless people came up to morass them. That's that's the situation there, and the government there is folding arms and saying we can't do anything court ruling saying unless we have shelter space. They can log on the sidewalk, and the reason it's three got kicked up again this week is because they were blocking the path of. Man in a wheelchair talk about that. So in one hour. Don't want. It's the fault of these stupid cities to allow so much to build up on the streets that the court says, well, you can't just. Just carry them away. If you had taken care of this from day one and driven them out of town. Every time you never would've ended up on a judge's docket can't tolerate if you tolerate the problem grows because his other places, we know the well, I mentioned earlier in the show Burbank and Culver city and Beverly Hills. You're not seeing this. How come I would say most couns don't have this problem? How come how come because their their government, the mayor and the city council said no and the police department enforce the law, and now look at this big mess, and you have no idea how to clean it up. They don't they don't know what to do. And they're tired of getting gal that I think I think people ought to keep saying, look, you got all you people. Whatever town you've got to recall, these guys gotta recall, and you got to go back to court. You don't have to listen to some to some judge on this necessarily go back to court. Rights to everybody's got rights. Not just the vagrants thought the United States vagrants here too. Good one US, AVI. Receptor petition there seems to be extra extra civil rights. I let's does seem that extra amendments in their constitution. Attention with vagrant issue to downtown LA group called DT L A strong decided they had to take their case to city hall yesterday. They went there. Dozens of them to demand more cops in their neighborhoods are frustrated by the crime and the harassment and the drug sales. We're gonna get a guest on right now from LA strong, a member of the group. Anthony, how do you pronounce your last night? Anthony. Dan. I don't know. Welcome to the John and Ken show me. What what what are the changes that you see in your neighborhood? Well, I mean, they're they're multiple, right? The neighborhood itself has just exploded in population. When I moved down here ten years ago. It was about maybe thirty thousand people don't live down here not including skid row population. And now there's about seventy five thousand people that live down here. So we'd be doubled in size. And because of that you have more people on the street just living their lives. There was an uptick in the homeless population in skid row, not nearly as big of a gross that we had with the people that actually live in apartments and loss, etc. But those those two things they meet each other. And there's problems at zoo sometimes going to say then there ten years has always been skid row in downtown LA. Why hundreds of years we've had skid row? Explain to our listeners. You did say there's a bit of an uptick, but why is it a problem? It's big enough. Now that your group is organized, and you're taking your case to city government. Well, I do want to clarify one thing we we city hall to ask for our commensurate right to services more than necessarily an issue about homelessness crime. They don't they don't deploy officers in a way that recognizes how much our neighborhood has grown, and there are places that are a little louder to city hall to get more services when they want them. So that was mostly our push. It's more about getting are commensurate amount of services from the city is specifically on foot patrols just because we think patrols make more sense in downtown. It's a dense urban setting. It's not your usual, Los Angeles sprawl a cop patrol car doesn't really interact with the neighborhood or do do the things we need a community. Well, we need is a presence not necessarily respond to calls for service went to this meeting. There's a woman in Katherine Tamasek said one of her friends was beaten and robbed on main street. Another is body slam near seventy grand another day was stabbed and hospitalized with a punctured lung and had to move out of the neighborhood. So it's it's that the, you know, there's enough vagrants. Now, you gotta you gotta violent contingent, and there's no police to discourage this behavior. Absolutely. There's there's definitely been uptick of random acts of violence some of them at the hands of what you would call a vagrant. But the one of the things I think that doesn't get really addressed is that there is a criminal element that comes to downtown LA to prey on everyone. Not just you know, the average Joes, but the Vegas themselves. They come to prey on them, and they disguised themselves as vagrants in order to do. So so it's hard to differentiate between someone who's legitimately a homeless person who's down on their luck. And someone who's. An actual criminal who comes in pretends to be homeless to sell drugs, and rob and do all things because another guy Tyler Lindberg said I've been assaulted I've been spat on I've been threatened with death by random passersby on the street. I know fringe of can't wait until their lease is up. So they can move out of downtown. If you heard that from people that I've seen it. I've heard it of I will say this. It's not it's not new. It's obviously we've seen a lot more of it. Because there are more people that live down here and have more interactions. But there's always been this contingent of people who reside in skid row who has serious mental health issues that are you. You're very obviously, not well, and that when they're, you know, having a bad day, they act out in ways that you would not necessarily see somewhere else because of the mental health issues. We saw I got no how many months ago, it was the poor man that was pushed in front of the bus that was able. Terrible because it's all on video. Also that HARA does anybody on city council seem to care. They do they do care. The the challenge is, you know, people smarter than me with more resources have tried to tackle the homelessness problem in downtown with little success. I don't think we've figured out a way to actually address it because you can't force people into treatment. You can't force them into shelter. You can't. So if they can't force him into a shelter. You can't force them to get the mental health treatment that they need. They win. And since we don't enforce the laws about camping and loitering and defecating and drug-taking. There you go. They win the Nicotrol the sidewalks. I'm not even sure they win. Right. I think we all lose. My police chief Michael Moore. I mean, he responded by saying, well, if I look at the numbers right in the last three years they've had ten officers to your to your area there in downtown LA think that's still not enough. Well, it's it's sort of misleading right because the number of officers sort of irrelevant. What's really important is the ratio of sworn personnel to people that live here and come here. You can give me four hundred cops. If the ratio is the worst in the in the department. It doesn't really matter. How many there is we need to have the the right amount of cops for the number of people that are here, and he didn't reference that hopefully, we'll get that in the report that they think his bless his heart, Mr. Corean asphalt from LAPD, and we'll get some real information. Anthony. All right. We appreciate you talking tanks. Very much. Thank you for having me issue. Anthony. Sarah, no from LA strong stands for downtown LA strong. And they want more cops. I mean, you heard the population numbers he gave the increase in residents now living there, and he just feels proportionately not getting a comment. They built all these new condo's. There were so many young working people moving in. They've been promoting these these neighborhoods for quite some time. And and they let the developers put up a lot of a lot of construction. Some of them are expensive places. Most people are not gonna put up with walking outside the and harass. It was a great frontier. I'm looking at one of the comments on the at times story. Yeah. And one guy wrote I just started working in downtown LA seventh near spring. I thought it was going to be cool working there. There's a lot of energy a lot of places to eat and drink and hang out. But the amount of bums and wackos undermines the experience every block is filled with wackos and smells like urine. My human resources department warned me that people have been getting robbed. To their smartphones around the office so to be aware fives a female, I would not be walking around downtown LA alone. In the one thing he told us in that interview. I never knew before people go there and pretend to be homeless and robbed and harass people. It's like an undercover outfit. You know? Maybe maybe you can approach people if you look like vagrant vagrant because enough people will give money if you look like a bad guy, people crossed the street and get away from you. But if you just vagrant people might let you a little closer and might try to offer your money. And that's when you could beat the hell out of them. We got more coming up. John and Ken KFI your.

"It smells really really good. So it would bring customers in who were hungry and then also wanted to fax so it has its horse pasta. And that's how this restaurant got started. So it was in this old gold rush era building and it burned down in eighteen ninety three. And then it built a new location. That was then destroyed an earthquake the great earthquake in San Francisco and the fire that subsequently followed in one thousand nine hundred six ten years later. Yeah. Rebuild. I think that's over with up. Fuck we. Oh, man. The whole city. So that wasn't on them. But San Francisco legend contends that the workers at the floor day Italia. Erected a tent and surf soup and food to all the displaced residents in San Francisco during the greater quake those good for the community was the brothel Guinea freebies out. You know what? Bad s fashion the restaurant LS to the brothel by a bazillion years. Yes. So they're like, oh, should this would so good. We don't need horse. So this is the San Francisco Bay area institution. It's relocated several times since the greater quake and fire. But and it close for a little bit in two thousand twelve move your location. Sounds like you're on Indian barrel. Walked every ten or twelve years, man. But now, it's on Mason street in San Francisco. It's still open. It's still in operation. So if you guys are in the bay area check it out the oldest Italian restaurant in America. Again, not New York. Not in Boston not anywhere else. And yet still so popular it is a city belts by immigrants San Francisco by prospectors, and then all subsequent immigrants, and after that and people forget that San Francisco once upon a time, I mean, still it has a very diverse community. But it used to be just absolutely a mecca for people from all over the world. We have a beautiful Chinatown there north beach has amazing food. I mean, there's great food from all over the world there, and it has gotten kind of subsumed by Google talk imigrants help y'all. Yeah. Stories all the time. I'm just saying you gotta answer those. Anyway, the news is that. Kevin Durant is been living in San Francisco. Good. He's the only warrior to live in San Francisco for long, Dr Phil all becoming over soon. He's enjoying it. Yeah. Should if you read this piece de get into does this make you believe that him wearing the city jersey while living in the city and playing in the city is in our future. That's the question. I mean like this him living in San Francisco give you an indication that this guy's into it. Bam. He wants to stay. Oh, I hope so I don't know how to react to what I really can't do those come in Marcus, Marcus, Thompson famously man, Katie out. Yeah. Famous for the whole season right now to be confused with the new Adam Copeland cut, Mandy rod out. And how about him saying that he had living here? It says I wanted to be close the bay bridge and the practice of the and the new arena possibly so. You know, never now. He's teasing us k the damn thing. Yeah. Yeah. He toured it, and they let them wear shorts which I think you're not allowed to write the pictures weren't Shiites. I noticed that. Yes. And so he he says he lives with a view of in a high rise with a view of the bay bridge and the. Acidic ocean. I'm trying to figure that out now where would that be possible Murph because I know like all the building on top of the millennium these towers. I mean, David we used to live in one of these towers, can you think if you if you have the millennium? There's a feeling I get when I looked to the west paulie interested. Yes. Yes. All right. So ocean that way they hear k. Says he's in free plug for these guys because they're right around the corner. From us says he goes to Cari a lot. Good spot. That's great. Yeah. Yeah. It says he also goes to north beach restaurant to north beach restaurant kidding spot. That's a nice little stay imagine. Copes? He goes to your old spot boulevard to Scott to. Yeah. He wants the best salted butter and Taylor. You hope so NBA players can when they're in town. I saw Cameron there. A couple of times we talked Dougie MC buckets last week. He used to come in. And I'm more impressed with the fact that Katy goes to north beach restaurant because Eddie could Cari boulevard. These are all the trendy hip places. You're Danko, of course, culture, Gary Danko, but like going to north beach restaurant. That's like that's a real neighborhood spot. A like that says a lot of guys go there. I guess they just like. Beal signed with a t Sal pal. Yeah. Yeah. The the proprietor that place the gentleman passed away within the last year. I didn't know that north beach legend. Oh, sorry to hear. Yeah. So but anyway, by the way, we hear confirmation from our own are friendly millennium tower resident Stephan Katie is a millennium terrorism. Well, there you go. The mystery is over unafraid of the sink in the tilt. Yeah. Right. Because it isn't it the whole damn it's only going to be here for one year. Just messing around. Stay let me make that clear on on the subject of the the tour with him. You f- the dufy looking photo of him like the basketball shorts and massage and he's got the hard hat the jacket. There's a meeting going around that says Kevin Durant just shows up once. Everything's already built. That's pretty good. Pretty good me Iraq, come on, man. By the way, the picture they using the in this the undefeated pieces throwing out the first pitch at a giant ski? It. Looks good. Sixteen is in the giants lid and he's wearing the orange Bill. Well, a little tribute to Jack Clark. I like to thank you. The story gets into a lot is the African American population. Cisco versus I also like the way they kind of how it's it's quite dwindled. It sucks, man. I in actual numbers to support it. Yeah. They got percentages and stuff it's gone down dramatically dramatically. But they also talk about the very very rich musical history. The Fillmore district especially in the jazz circles. I mean, everyone from Duke Ellington, John Coltrane are they all played over there back in the days. And they rebuilt that jazz center over there. It's supposed to be great. I haven't been phenomenal phenomenal. I saw the preservation. Jess hall bend over. There were the whole that facility is I it's exceptional. Well, it says he's he's always liked to live in these kind of communities when he was Oklahoma City lived in a neighborhood called the deep deuce district, which was the heart of Oklahoma city's African American neighborhood. He lived in Austin, Texas. He lived in Mercer island Washington when he was in Seattle, not a big black population up in Seattle for sure, but you knew took him to the Fillmore is Matt Barnes. Yeah. Okay. That Barnes took him. There says he had dropped enough. He named after another restaurants. They went to state bird provision. That's another one. I've never been to. Oh, no. It was a hot restaurant a couple years ago. But anyway, it's a good story by spears, and it has Durant in the city liking the city like it. They're playing in the city next year. I wonder if this story, by the way, ticks off the Oakland crab. Oh, sure. It does. Yeah. Sure. It does it does. But I think I would think he's the first of probably all the like why would any of those guys live over there after the season? Steph can have to commute from Alamo to to chase. Oh, see it. Right. What are you gonna get roll the dice? I might be. I might not make it for the game tonight. I'm on the bay bridge. You know what? I mean took me three hours to get over it wears Steph. He's on his way. Yeah. No. He's stuck on the bridge. Yeah. Anyway, you're right. They would all live down there. And they're building. I just saw a story in the chronicle that whole south of market. It's going to be an NFL going bananas going to be crazy down there. It's going to be a whole new how soon before that neighborhood jumps the shark, and it's not cool to live there anymore. I'm already looking past call right now probably by the all-star break of next season. No longer hit. But it does seem. I mean, listen, they cut the weather down. There is the best in the city. Try the veal. It's the best in the city. Got me. Trying to weather. You got there. It is. Because remember we took the tour we came out into the sunshine in our host, Peter believe his name was you and I said to him and they said, yeah, they call this. He had a nickname flaw. They do they have a new little handle like Miami beat Miami, south beach or something south beach. Something did say something like that. All the workers are like you get the they said they got to wear their s SPF fifty. Yeah. Yeah. So I mean, it's flat. It's walkable. You got the ball. You got the giants. You got the warriors. You got all these hot new restaurants. Go I want a piece of this action. Yeah. Yeah. Mike about bought myself a plate you something to flop into. Well, you know a secondary game. Yeah. Second residents, but don't they call those? That's exactly what Steph will do a tear, isn't that the phrase? That's what I like to call overnight like place you have for your mistress, by the way, when I was down in Los Angeles on that note when I was down in Los Angeles hanging on my friend wakes. He was giving I like him to do this. When I go down there. I'll be like wait show me LA chop chop. So anyway, we'll get in his car, and it'll drive me around fake kids. Laurel? Canyon. This is this is this and he showed me a world famous drummer Tommy Lee's kind a little getaway pad. He had a like a little kind of thing. "Hi Hi. Marty Larry joined by Dave, Flemming, Dave a great class going. In I just get some of your thoughts about some of the players going in Jack Morris to. Me, again almost like what I've said with Trevor. Hoffman he deserves to be in the hall of fame because of his body of, work but also because of the big moments and the big moment should be celebrated and there should be some extra weight and I get that that's unfair in some ways to players who didn't get to get on that, stage especially in the era of baseball where playoffs were so hard to come. By we're getting to the postseason with so much. Harder and so, I I have sympathy for the players who never got the chance that those big moments that, said when you do a Jack Morris did in the big moments that should carry some extra. Weight I'm glad finally that it. Did that's they Fleming great. Stuff this is Stephen Duggar of the San Francisco. Giants, now back to the giants pregame show with mardi Larry on Cain be are six. "Authentic italian dishes and i'm telling you they are absolutely authentic you sit out in front of the restaurant watch the watch the crowd go by north beach couldn't be better during the summer with all the tourists and everyone in the air but when you think about classic san francisco the north beach neighborhood is still the center of the action that is where things happen our parents grandparents live there when they moved to the states to live in america and that's where they came and they created that little italy there but it's really a lot of fun one hundred years of history at the us restaurant it's still family owned and that is the most important thing so that's where the locals eat and if you're in north beach today absolutely stop by the us restaurant four fourteen columbus columbus and and don't order yourself no you let the well in the sense you you let the waiter you tell them what you up for you didn't you didn't get to i ready you tell you tell them what you like you like you like fishy like pasta whatever it is and then just sit back and they bring the dishes and they're all great and and you'll never know what they're saying which is what i like about that as well it's fine yeah it's a lot of fun all right we will take a quick break wrap and lupe doing the show back there guys can we do call the game now you ready for that okay raffish checking all right so i'm not sure what that means but we'll take a break and come back with more right.

"A proud sponsor of your san francisco giants so we got that going on it is a gorgeous day north beach will be just rocking today it is a summer weekend of course the us restaurant for fourteen columbus in vallejo you wanna just sit and watch the traffic by and i don't mean the cars you watch the people go by and enjoy lunch enjoy dinner there's always some activity there's always some entertainment going on in north beach area but us restaurant fourteen columbus in vallejo and as i always say just sit back let them order for you and you will have an experienced so mardi it's a good weekend i live over in north beach and so it's it's not as busy this week as you would have thought people were out of town but people are out and about it's a beautiful weekend to be hanging out up there walking around a us restaurant at four fourteen columbus in vallejo and you'll enjoy it and of course tuesday is a half price wine night as well that is it's still going on all right so more coming up giants today oh i have a new thing for the month you can use this on your show murph and mac july is called survival okay and if the giants can survive july i really believe this if they can that means the starting rotation is happening i need some definition here marnie survival meaning what over five hundred we're talking six hundred no over five hundred and still within under five division division lead and so within shouting distance of that wild card if you got three teams above your kid about the number of teams we're talking five hundred ball within five games at the end of july and it could be better than five hundred ball but whatever but i wanna be within five of the division lead after july or less okay and if the giants can survive that i don't think they're making many moons that was my follow up question now if that happens and they do survive july is i don't know where you go because right now on thinking the the the one spot where they would need help is right handed pitching depth out of the bull which is ideally probably if you're gonna make a move derek rodriguez could fit that role if you don't wanna eat up too many innings for him i don't know if you if you push him into august as a starter maybe you got to figure out what's going to happen with this rotation but you don't have a lot of weapons you can go give away to get a pitcher back maybe ray black is that guy i think it remains to be seen but they're going to need right handed pitching depth in the bullpen what are they gonna need people to come through don't get stricklin comes back right diners still here will smith in my opinion is the closer you to go back to back days though i don't care he's the medicare fee goes every other day he is the closer to stuffy he is the guy and it's just a you'll hear him on the show today we he's part of our show today he's terrific so he's the closer and maybe can't go back to back we'll see but he's the closer but dyson is still there strickland will be back milansan is doing whatever he does miranda still gets the big outs and it's not exactly pretty but he gets it done and then we'll see what corey garin can do kori garin can pull together but that may be a spot we all know that that may be somewhat vulnerable but i think the pitching is going to be there but i agree with you right handed relief is one of the things i talk so that so the survival month that's what we're looking at we're looking at five hundred baseballer better within five of the division and right now than surviving this month morning well right now they're two and three but are three and.
