"I'm just enjoying a little bit of music from Duke Tomato and the Power Trio, ladies and gentlemen. No radio show would be stupid enough to do this. But here we are with this great crowd this morning. We also have, of course, the band, including the Brass to Mouth Horns. We're going to hear from the boys in just a second. But right now, without any further ado, from Hollywood, it's Drew Powell. Hey. It's great seeing you, Drew. What's up, guys? You're getting more handsome. How's that possible? It's goat's blood. You Hollywood weirdo. All the Hollywood people do it. Yeah, a lot of sacrificing going on. Hey, listen, I spent the entire day with the Griswolds. I got up in the morning. I went to the track. Tom and I did interviews all day long, which were, if we do say so ourselves, very good. They're so funny because these IndyCar drivers are so used to getting the same, who's going to win the race? This is the same stupid question. How fast can you drive? We talk about interesting stuff. What do you drive off the track, you know? Is it like a CRV or one of them Honda cars? Honda or a Chevy. No, we didn't do that. We had a great time. We could hear some of those? Not later. Thank you for shutting up. They're all on our Bob and Tom YouTube channel. Oh, cool. We had a lot of fun. And then I ended the day, though, Tom, with the younger Griswold who opened at the Vogue for Joey Molinaro and then killed. He killed. All of his jokes are about you, Tom. So that's why it's so fun. I'm the best. Hell yeah. People seem to like that. Now, it's always great to see you. We should point out that you are an actor in Hollywood. I've got plenty of time to be here because everybody's on strike. Yeah, we want to be paid for the work we do. We can't say our own lines. How are we expected to buy goat's blood if we can't be paid? And you have a song coming up, an original song, I understand, about the current situation in Hollywood. I got the blues. OK. You have also been on Broadway. Indeed. In a production with Pee Wee Herman. Yeah, not many people can say that. I played a mute dancing bear in the Pee Wee Herman show on Broadway. You heard that right. Not entirely mute, though. That's right. I was watching Pee Wee on Broadway. You know how you do. You get home. You start surfing. This was like two months ago. I'm doing this. I'm looking around. And Pee Wee live on Broadway. And I go, gee, I wonder who's in that. I just thought to myself, I wonder who's in the bear suit. And he takes his head off. And I go, is that Drew? I had no idea. I had no idea. I would have loved to have seen your face. Oh my God. And I had to go to Google. And is that him? And is it somebody who looks like him? Is it true that you met Pee Wee when you were an usher at a movie theater? Minnesota, Florida. Yeah, it was a very sticky floor. On point as usual. It's a rough crowd. PJ, top three right there. But I also did not only the mute, I was the voice of Randy, Mr. Window and the Flowers. Yeah, yeah. Someone's coming. Hey, Pee Wee. How you doing? Randy. A real troublemaker. Oh, yeah. You wanted to make him smoke and stuff? Oh, yeah. Now, coming up, you're going to be, can I say the curb thing? Okay, you're going to be on Curb Your Enthusiasm? Indeed. Yes, yes. A couple of episodes. Yeah, we got a lot of Curb fans. That was a trip. I don't know if people know this, but there are no lines. There's no script in Curb. They give you an outline of what you're supposed to do and then you got to come up with it. So there I was racking my brain trying to be funny with Tracy Ullman and Larry David and all those. No pressure. No pressure at all. But it was really great experience. And that's in October. And a couple of other movies, too. Good. All right. Very good. We're staying busy. And we're going to have a song coming out of you. And we will be hearing from you also race morning. You'll be somewhere within the confines of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. You actually happen to be very good friends with a Frenchman. Wee Wee. Simon. One of the things that we asked every driver was, you know, since I was there, was who would play you in a movie? And there were some pretty funny responses. People. Some people had clearly thought about this. Like, I love the who was it that was like right away? Brad Pitt. Yeah. I was thinking like it was Felix Rosenquist. He was like maybe a Swede, maybe one of the Scarsgard family. Right. No, Brad. Brad Pitt. And then and then every guy would come. Most of these drivers, they're for the most part very slender. Jerks. In some cases, tiny. Not all of them, but relatively. I wouldn't use. I mean, sort of thin. Yeah. And you insisted, and for virtually all of them, that you could play. Well, I'm a very versatile actor. Lube me up and slide me right in that car. I think you're both being incredibly modest. You're not mentioning the big headline from the interviews yesterday, Tom, about the eye situation. Please continue this. Listen, now, at first I thought, oh, well, here's Tom being Tom. Talking about his eyes and his tattoos. And then, as the day wore on, it was incredible. It was like almost all of them. Almost all of them had blue eyes. Yeah. Like 31 out of 33. Well, no, but I mean, like, I would say three quarters of them, at least. Oh, Pat, you have something to say about that? No one knows what it's like to be a race guy. A race guy. To be a fast guy. Fast guy. Behind blue eyes. Nailed it. Amazing. I'm not sure what the significance of that is, but no one's ever understood before. It really became weird after a while. I know. I think we need to call Bill Nye the Science Guy and get to the bottom of this. Another blue -eyed guy. We had a lot of fun. I would recommend you watch the interviews. They're on our YouTube channel. Willie did a bunch of cool stuff also there, as well as Christy Lee. And just a lot of fun. Having a lot of fun with the drivers. And you're, like I said, really good friends. Yes. Simon, my good buddy Simon. Simon was a fan of Gotham, a show that I did. And so on the Twitter machine, we were back and forth. And I said, well, hey, I'll give you a tour of the set if you get me into the 500. And sure enough, he got a tour of the set. And I was on the grid at the hundredth running of the 500. So I definitely got the better end of that deal. And at one point, was Simon the one who had the dog? Yes. Norman? Norman, yeah. He's famous. So a weird thing happened. Simon mentioned that he had a dog. You mean other than the blue -eyed thing? And at that time, I reached into my pocket and I pulled out one of these, which is an environmentally correct biodegradable dog poop recovery bag. And right when I did that, Simon Paginot, Indy 500 winner, pulled out a blue environmentally correct doggy bag and we traded it. I thought Simon would have pulled out a white one. I'd like to be removed from that. Take no part in that. Glad he's not here to hear that. He would have laughed. Extraordinarily brave man. And then he would have quit like they do and run off. Like they do. Remember the first time I met him, I said, you're French, so you smoke. Did he smoke? No. We did ask one of the drivers a yes or no question, do any of the drivers still smoke? And the answer was yes. Oh, okay. We don't know which ones. You're free to give the name. I'm not going to give the name. But this is quite the international event. There are drivers from all over the world. Japan. There are a couple of Danes. What? I didn't know there were any Danes left. Really? Yeah. Those are people from Daneland. All right. Now I got it. Swedes, et cetera, et cetera. Right now, let's get some music out of Duke Tomato and

"As a kid, I was four years old and I wanted to be a race car driver. But it's such a far -fetched dream. Every kid wants to be a race car driver at some point. And then you dream about being the fastest guy on earth because you're a kid. And the simple fact that you actually can get in the race is already a blessing, an honor, because not many people get to do that. But then winning it is another level. And then after you've won, being able to race it again, it's you get to appreciate things a lot more. And it's becoming, for me, my favorite race of the year, favorite event. But also my favorite game. I love to talk about the race as a game. It's tactical. You have to be very strategic. It's a bit like a chess game. Well, now we've been asking everybody what actor would play them. Have you come to any conclusion when they do the Simon Pageno story? What do you think? OK, let's go. I love the idea of Sacha Baron Cohen playing you with that French accent. You know what we're talking about? It's from Saladaga Nights. Who else would be good at it? I'm trying to think of... I would like to think of a good French actor. We've already thrown out Gerard Depardieu. I don't think that's right. A good Jean Dujardin. Do you know Jean Dujardin? from... Yes, He played in a black and white movie recently. What was the name of the movie? Yeah, I know what you're talking about. The meme? What's it called? I don't remember. Jean Dujardin? Jean Dujardin. To start, he's a comedian. Really funny. But he's becoming one of the top actors in France. And he plays a lot of roles in the U .S. Yeah, that's a good one. So that's our casting? Yeah, we're going with that one. All right. OK, very good. OK, very good. Well, it's always a great pleasure. I hope you do great. We'll be watching for you. Yeah, how's Norman? Norman's great. Actually, he's here. I hesitated to take him to meet today with me. But then I thought, you know, I don't know if the new policies here at the Speedway will allow dog hair on the floor. So I wasn't too sure. Spoken as someone who might know what that's like. It'd be great to have a picture of a dog sticking his head out of an Indy car. Absolutely. With that look on their face, like, I'm driving. Exactly. But he's here. He's on site. The problem I have is every time I take him out, it's like being Tom Cruise. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You know, people jump on you on the street. He's too famous. He's too famous, man. I can't go anywhere. This is the only interview where someone's going to present you with an environmentally correct dog poop bag. You wouldn't believe. He has all the dog poop bags. Come on. I'll give you right back. Hold on, hold on. Somebody take a picture of that. That is great. That is too good. You both have doggy bags in your pockets. What is going on? The policies of the Speedway is very strict. Dog people. These are dogs. OK. Simon Pascio. Thank you, Simon. Go get them, brother. Love you, man. You're going to need to go, man. Ryan Hunter Ray joins us here at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Great seeing you, sir. Thank you. Thank you. Thanks for having me on. Now, who's the tallest of all the drivers? I would say Stefan Wilson. He's the tallest. And then next up would probably be Graham Rayhall. Yeah. And then I'll fall in line somewhere right there. Right behind that. And we've been talking weight classes and adding the ballast, et cetera, et cetera. Where do you fall in that? I'm like, I don't know, like fourth from. Same on the height chart, basically, right? I'm like fourth from heaviest, something like that. Is that any kind of an advantage? No, that's disadvantage. They've done a really good job mitigating that situation because it used to be where it was just the driver, whatever he weighs, whatever size he is, you go in there and there's no weight ballast. Now everybody has to ballast up to the heaviest driver. The problem is you have your body's bigger. It's a higher center of gravity in the car. Yeah, that's right. Your weight mass is higher. Do they get to experiment where they put the weight, like on a sailboat and ballast? They have to put it in one designated area. Wow, that's amazing. Is there any way to cheat? No, they're pretty tight on it. You've heard stories of drivers when they go to weigh in, having lead underwear and stuff like that. It's funny, I've heard some stories of guys getting caught, all of a sudden a piece of a lead weight would fall out of their pocket and all this other stuff. So not something I want to get caught. When do they weigh you? Is it the beginning of the month, the beginning of the season? What's the cutoff? Every race, they weigh you after practice on Friday. So for the Indy 500, it was after the first practice day, which was Tuesday, after the GP. This is going to be a series of dumb questions. Sure. You don't have to give me the number, but who's the most famous person you have in your cell phone? I don't know. It depends on who you're asking, right? In the hockey world, Keith Yandle is a good buddy of mine, so everybody would know him. He'll be here for the race, actually. How about you? You've got a bunch of famous friends. Again, it depends who you ask. You ask kids my son's age, Millie Bobby Brown would be the biggest. I have no idea who that is. Yeah, no, ask your kids. All they want is Taylor Swift. Yeah, exactly. Ryan Tannehill is a good friend of mine. It just depends what kind of world you're in. Well, on that same note, I've been asked this to all the drivers, who plays you in the movie? I think

"Poll question today at HR N on Twitter. So many of you taking time to weigh in on this and I appreciate that. Who wins today's Preakness? It's pretty simple, straightforward, gave you a few choices, epicenter, early voting, secret oath, or other. And if you choose other specify and let us know who you think it is so far, epicenter leading the way the morning line favorite has 37% of the vote from HR and nation 29% going to the Philly secret oath and just 23% for early voting, which is slightly surprising, but I guess not really secret oath looks like she could be, you know, the real deal. She's a major player in there. And I think those are the three logical horses in this year's Preakness. So I guess not surprising to see the way the votes are coming in. But everybody thinking that the Derby runner up epicenter gets his redemption today and we'll take the middle jewel of the Triple Crown. Mark Cassie is with us now. This is the segment where I turn the show over to you for about the next 15 minutes. You can call in and talk to Mark directly. The phone number is 888-966-4776. That is 8 8 8 9 6 6 HR N Mark welcome my friend appreciate you taking a few minutes. Thank you for having me, Mike. You know I was we played a little Montage of some of your greatest wins as we were opening the third hour of the show. And, you know, there have been so many memorable moments, but I was talking earlier about war of will and that Preakness stakes and how special that day must have been for you. Oh, it was for so many reasons. You know, obviously, everything that happened in The Kentucky Derby and the disqualification and, you know, I thought we were interfered with significantly. And then after the Derby, that track was wet that day and his feet really were bothering. So I really didn't, I wasn't sure I was going to run more well until the morning of the Preakness. I had kind of went along. I didn't say much. But I was still wanting him to show me that he was back to himself. And obviously, we did, and it was one of our greatest victories, for sure. Yeah, you know, we did a listener Larry and Louisville sent an email and he said, ask Mark, what on earth he was thinking at the top of the stretch in The Kentucky Well, it's interesting you say that because so what we usually do is Mike we watch the race normally the Derby from the paddock. It's the one way we can kind of get our entire family together. There's about 20 of us there. And at about the mid turn, you know, about the three eighths pull Norman Norman put his arm around me and said dad, you're going to win The Kentucky Derby. Because it just looked like the war will was loaded. And then I had some cameras on me and when the incident happened, I said a really bad word, and I thought, I think my mom's watching. So we went from the thrill of victory, you know, what we thought we had a big shot to, you know, just being happy, I truly, is frustrating it was for him to be interfered with. I was just happy after the race that he was okay. And for everybody, because it could have been ugly. If he went down, it would have been the worst disaster in Kentucky Derby history. Well, there have been so many great moments in the career of dual.

"Voice or do motion capture for a major role in a video game? 100%. And you know, there is watch this space, my guide is something coming real soon. Oh, Idris Elba in a video game. That's all right, okay. We see you do a little things here and there, but I'd love to see you know motion cabinet. That's either just the game. Yes. Would you would you ever want a voice or do huh? Huh? What do you think is up to? What is he hiding? They're making him 007. In the video game? Oh my God. That would be insane. Huh. I would love that so much. I thought I already heard that he was out of the running for the movies, though, Kevin. Who told it? Who's telling you these? I got sources. I mean, there's also the 007 video games in development right now from IO interactive, which is supposed to be separate. It's supposed to be like a 007 origin story. Maybe a lot of people. A lot of people in chat are taking starfield, got a war. Here's the thing, right? Kevin I'm going to send you something in assets. Then I want you to pull up in a second. I would do anything to just hear that guy be the main voice of a character. Just take up the role. I'm talking like a 120 hour epic. It's nonstop Idris Elba. Suicide Squad. Suicide Squad? What's his face? There's already a dead shot, though. Or sorry, not deadshot. But he was dead shot, right? Was he Dutch on the last Suicide Squad? There's like a lot of those that should be shoot guys. Yeah, it's either the Will Smith car that you just help a guy. Coincidence? I don't know. I don't know. So this is the blood sport. He was a blood sport last four. Yeah. Okay, so yeah, I guess he could be blood sport in the game, but like the game had different characters and actors in the movies already. So I wouldn't think that they're going to double down on getting movie people into the game if they want to do something different. This is the asset that I sent Kevin, which is a picture of Idris Elba hanging out with hideo kojima kojima, famously known for getting big celebrities to play parts in this game. We have no idea what hideo kojima is working on next. I could see hideo kojima putting Idris Elba in his next game because it was still as hell and I'm sure I'm sure hey okija fucking loves it yourself up because he's the man to taste. How much of a bag he had to drop to get idiots that would be the main person in your game. I mean he's so expensive. Probably as much as it does to get Daryl from a Walking Dead. Oh no, I didn't know. I don't think it's that much. Yeah. Or no, I think it's more than Daryl. I think. Yeah, because Daryl's not that guy's not like a huge actor. He's been in a lot of things, but like Idris Elba, I think is a bigger deal. You know, like he's been in bigger movies as a bigger, like the antagonist. I guess so. Like Andrews always definitely is like big blockbuster versus I keep calling him Daryl. I'll just go call him Daryl. Daryl from The Walking Dead is more of like a TV actor. But like, oh, I feel like I feel like Daryl probably was expensive though. But it is a different level of star. I feel either, I feel either. Why can't I fucking remember his name? Norman Norman Reedus. Jesus. I kept thinking like, read us the fetus, you know? That normal read his fetus, little baby. Little BB. It could also be a Call of Duty thing, like Call of Duty, no one to get big actors sometimes in their games. Oh, that would be so shitty. Oh, it suck. Yeah, but I feel like it's gonna be what it is. You're right, fuck. Yeah. I can visualize it now, right? You get the reveal of modern warfare two, and it is Idris Elba with a gun, like that fits so well. On the black Superman. You know, he's dirty. Yeah in that thing. Remember that? Remember that movie? I remember that movie. How did that look? How did Nick that like that movie? It doesn't make sense. He didn't like it? No? He hated it. Yeah. How do you feel about the latest fast movie? I think he was kind of like a it's too much. I don't like you, Kevin, can we talk about Nickelodeon? I feel like he's treading down a territory. I don't want to go, you know? Andy, I can't wait to see what video game Idris Elba ends up being in. But the reveal of that game is probably just so far away. If I want to know what's coming to my mom or drop shops today, where'd I look? "It and less. The number is two. What is yeah. This little note was actually slipped to me before the show. Really an unnamed member of the staff. Soon to be unemployed. I might add. The number is two okay. That's it without little admonition. I guess we'll have a new puzzle thirty show so that in the meantime you have a question about our anything else. That numbers eight car talk. That's eight eight eight. Two two seventy eight thousand five hundred thirty. I sort of figure that one right. Hello hello hello. We had another unfortunate puzzle moment when i thought it was doing the right thing. I mean try to use the puzzle which i attributed and credited to the legendary puzzle editor of scientific american martin gardner and i know that he was unlikely to suicide because he was dead. Then we got this call the following week. Hello you're on car. Talk this jim from norman. Oklahoma norman norman from jim oklahoma is correct. What's up man. Well you know. I was gonna call in with a car problem but i. I really have a car talk problem. Oh yeah i know. I'm you know i'm i listen on k. g. o. And and and i was kind of a bit taken back and literally shocked. I am a big fan. And admire of martin gardner and i thought i would've known before you guys so i just saw you know. I called my dad because he's fairly up on this information and after we talked for for a while i was thankfully one hundred percent convinced that he was still alive that well my cats martin gardner received an email from me would be. I can say that he is both alive and still in the puzzle business. I apologize for that faux pas. We are both big fans of your father's mathematical puzzles for many years. Roy my hero. My hero is martin. God i hero to well. Tell dad's we're glad he's alive and well. I've made this mistake many times in the past when i discovered that lawrence welcome died. It was apparently in my estimation for the second time. Okay let's take a break from embarrassing me and embarrass a few listeners. Instead a lot of calls over the years involves someone's car making noise and we would often ask the caller to make the noise for us. It was purely for diagnostic reasons. Of course it drops and builds with the with the rpm goes we a when i pull in and turn it off boom fades on the all. Do that wanna make the noise. Ho hold on a second. I'm going to make the noise all right can you. Can you make the noise. I got changing thing. I don't know i. It has been back to Making noise kind of a sort of a deal. that's good. the car makes a sound. That kind of goes oh goes you. Could you do that again if you don't get emotionally office i'm going to record it this time when i turn the steering wheel to right right sitting stopped stopped or going all moving. He goes ooh the best way. I can describe. It is a scene from a three stooges movie where the three of them are sleeping in the same bed. I don't know if you remember that. But mall goes and larry goes woo and curly goes would remember it. Hang on the wall is larry. Lots of calls didn't involve noises and some even ventured into areas of automotive engineering about which we know absolutely nothing. of course. that didn't stop us. Hello this is paul from barco. "There's Fred Warner afterwards, saying it's tough to see Jason Brett, especially after all the work he's done in the injuries he's had in the past. Go down. Good news is the 49 dropped 41 17 They hold on 43 33 a lot of good to talk about, But obviously, after major injury like that, That's we're going to start Jason Britain in the secondary. Looks like he's out for the year with an A C L. Let's talk to the aforementioned Donte Whitner at 90. Wittner. Make sure you follow a great job with the pre and post with Joe and the crew yesterday, and he joins us courtesy of the magazine. Hi, Dante. How are you? Are you guys doing Well, we're kind of torn, right? I mean, you get the win, but obviously you're feeling bad for Verrett. Yeah, You feel extremely bad. Eveready fall back in so many devastating injuries, Patella tendon, Achilles, multiple HCL and arguably was the best defender during training camp. You know, so he was looking forward to, you know, showing the world that you know he was the top five corner in the league and to see him go down for the nine contact injury. Basically, you know exactly depth. It's devastating and heartbreaking. Yeah, Without question. We'll figure out what the football team does, but just speak to Jason and I saw you know, after the game coming out on crutches, and he was still welling up. He stopped and And gave me a hug and watching this guy play, too. When he was a young player with the San Diego Chargers in 2015 was a pro ball player. You you listed all the different injuries is terrible. Injuries in the eight finally got healthy last year, and he played great. But because of the pandemic, the salary cap went down. He wound up signing a one year deal. For $5.5 million. Not a camp is going to go up to over two. Oh, eight. I mean, just from a financial standpoint. Uh, he lost a lot of money yesterday. Nancy, We're talking. Maybe 25 30 $35 million, he would have got in a contract if he played. This year, the way he played last year. We did, and they're so unpredictable as to what will happen when an injury would happen. And that's why players talk about getting paid and locking up a guaranteed money. That's why you're here so often. And last year was a buyer's market ownership. Didn't want to pay the players. You know they didn't make a lot of money. They lost a lot of money with the pandemic, so it was just bad timing and you hate the theaters happen to guys. You understand what he's going through. I understand what he's going through, but it doesn't make it any easier. Dante. Witness. Join us the 40 Niners Hold on in Detroit yesterday. 41 33 bracing for the bad news officially on Jason Verrett in the knee. So from a football perspective, how badly does this hurt? Tremendously. Yeah. Um, you know, they were relying on him to play a lot of top receivers, and they have a lot in their division. He was the number one corner. Playing basically like a top up corner in the league. Now you have to figure out what you're going to do. And they were already seeing at the cornerback position when the season started yesterday. So now you have some guys on the street. You have, uh, our old friend Richard Sherman out there. Well, I can guarantee you that he's in the best shape that he's probably ever been in. And he wants the opportunity to prove that he's still the top point in his league, so I'll go on record, saying that even though Richard Herman is not a hurricane To the top 10 corn in the league, especially in this system that he knows like the back of his hand. That's easy fit. Yes, and the 40. Niners do talk to him on a regular basis. John legend Adam Peters and Kyle even acknowledged it. He's got a little bit of a legal situation he's going to have to get through. And that probably wouldn't be a uh, addition you can make until October, but I hear you, but let's just start with the with the in House candidates. And I want to start with Josh Norman. Um, because you played with him, You know, coming off his best year and Carolina when he was a first team all pro. He got the franchise tag, and then he didn't sign it right away. And Marty Hurney and Carolina got pissed rescinded it. He wound up signing a lucrative deal to go to Washington. And you were there with them for their 2016 years. I've always thought he was more of his own corner. Kind of like Richard Sherman, which is not a slide of the guy, but I think he's more of a A guy who wants to play a little bit off kind of soft and off. Is that an accurate breakdown of Josh Norman? And what do you think about his game right now? Don t accurate depiction of Josh Norman, you know, But as we get older, we lose a little bit. You know, even though we don't want to admit it. And it takes a lot of communication with your teammates. Just come in, implement somebody after a week of practice. That much more communication that goes on out there than just putting a guy out there and say, Hey, play covered three plates number four. All right. What about when he have bunch formations? What about when they motion it shift? What about what we're playing man to man to get her to man Fact what's the communication there? It takes a while to develop back chemistry. And it takes a while for Josh Norman Norman to learn a type of terminology and what means what and what coverage and zone blitz and man It's so much to learn, Um, maybe five duty when they go to a nickel packages give him certain coverages to work on, but for the asked them to come in after two weeks. And these are number one corner and base nickel dime. I don't know if you can do it. Dante, the young guys De'andre Lynn or played yesterday and he didn't get tested out a whole lot. But I would imagine that in the short term, if if we can assume Mosul would come back against Philly, would you think Lynn or would be on the other side? And how would you feel about that? The other thing. It would be liner will be Dontae Johnson at the moment was inspired duty from Josh Norman that he gets up to speed. Eleanor. I think he has five targets you only gave of one. That's what I saw in pro football focus. What tells me that you know the game wasn't too big for them. But when you go into a game early in the week, the coaching staff notice you're going to be out there that can prepare for you. They can attack your weaknesses. They noticed a young guy. And that's when he will get tested. So you know we'll see how it goes moving forward. But, yeah, I would say Dontae Johnson older nor will be the opposite Emanuel mostly. All right early in the game when the 40 nine's were rolling. Still, the lion's got after them as far as running the football. Jamal Williams and DeAndre Swift had some big runs in the game. And now going to Philadelphia. Jalen hurts. Just live in the run game as a quarterback, and they've got a running game..

I don't want to go ruin a kids. Experience exactly exactly. I don't want to be an idiot into theater where a kid is enjoying. I want to be an idiot my own home. "Dance began to make an impact with her Academy Award winning performances. Anita in the 1962 Motion Picture West Side Story. She's the only female performer to win all four the entertainment industry's most prestigious awards. The Oscar, the Emmy, the Tony And the Grammy. I like so many of you grew up with Rita on the electric company, not to mention the Rockford Files, and maybe even the Muppet show. She currently stars in the CBS comedy Reboot of one day at a time. And next spring will be the focus of a new American Masters documentary hitting the big screen called Just a girl who decided to go for it and I'll read it. Joyce is a great time is a great title. I love that title. Right, Rita, How are you? I'm terrific. Thank you. What? What? It was seriously what a great pleasure it is, is to talk to you. Thank you for taking the time. Thank you. You know, one day, the time, which was a classic seventies, early eighties, Syria's was rebooted by Norman Lear some years ago. On Netflix and then on to pop TV. And now it comes full circle back on network television this Monday to kick off its fifth season already pretty well but also on CBS, which is Norman's original home, So it's kind of a celebratory occasion. Yeah. Absolutely. And you know, I love the way they crafted this story because you know, one day the time was about a single mom who was raising her kids and trying to navigate through life and this is very similar, but it's a Cuban American family. The main character's Penelope Alvarez. She was the United States Army. Really, It's really a reimagining because they read part, which is Justina Machado, who, by the way, only brilliant in it. She plays my daughter like I could say I play her mom. She's a war veteran. That's a big big, big difference from every puts up completely different, uh, feeling on on one day at a time. Yeah, very relevant. I mean, in relatable to obviously Lot of Americans out there who served and have to come back to, you know, life with their families and so forth and how they never get only Norman. Leah's idea always is to do something that's universal and what could be universe more universal than a family And that boy, that's that's his specialty and put this is such Funny goes on. But what's wonderful about it is that the gift that this show has is that it's extremely funny, and then you suddenly choke on your laughter. And you find yourself in tears. It's an extraordinary kind of experience. The roller coaster ride. Yeah, and I'm not just gonna be four and she's been on the show. She's from here in Chicago, which is which is wonderful. And the other two threads to this one day at a time series is the theme was remade by Gloria Estefan. And it's exactly the same song for the most part, but then the actual set Is very reminiscent of the apartment that was on the 1970 series. That's what I hear. I know. Actually, there are little props in the in our set that belong to the original. Is that right? Oh, yeah, that is right. Yes, you know, but you know, doing this for so many years that you know, props give used over a 70 80 year period. I mean, they, Markham. And they hold on to him and their repurpose constantly. Well, this was done on purpose. Obviously, they saved some things from the original show not knowing what would happen. But when it came time to do this one day at a time out came these old props, which is wonderful. It is. It is in Norman. Norman Lear is 98 years old, and we're gonna have him on After our conversation, But, um, he's on the set. This man is quite remarkable. I call him the old Jew. I call myself field. I call myself the FARC it as opposed to the old fart. And I have a lot of common having to do with age. Oh, he's remarkable. He goes to the office every day. I mean, this is the most remarkable, astonishing impressive, admirable man. I just adore him. I really love that man. I mean, you and you really think what he created over those really critical decades in television, the seventies and eighties with some of these, Yeah. Some of them. It's hard, you know, it's hard to what? You know what I was watching on the family the other day. I just have to tell yet and I was really shocked at the topics because they're very relevant today, but I'm not quite sure How any audience would accept some of the things that the character of Archie Bunker was saying, But it was so relevant at the time, and a lot of it is still relevant right now. I remember watching it was one of my favorite shows, but I was always shocked. I thought, Oh, I didn't say that right? And then I do that with our current one day at a time. Because it is staying what we have covered the things with Oh my God, the things we've covered the topic in this show. I would never have believed this could be on television, not because it's bad, but because it's so bold. Yeah. And relevant and very thoughtful. Like that's what I've seen in a serious one. I gotta tell you, there is one episode about pleasuring yourself That will make you pee with laughter. I know your character lady is very sexualized. I remember reading the script is saying no to do this really? Yeah, just a thistle underside to that something that nobody nobody ever refers to our talks about that. Everybody, almost everybody in the world. Takes pardon, but nobody would ever in a million years admitted. It is hilariously funny, really, really funny and my part, Lydia has a delicious, delicious part in it. Well, you could tell you, Comptel. You're actually having a good time doing the show? Yeah. Yeah, I would pay them..

"All right. So, Chris, you said a little you said a little texture about iguanas. Uh, is this from personal experience? Yes. Really? Yes. Number of years ago. You've eaten iguana? Yes, I've eaten iguana a couple of years. A number of years ago. I can't remember exactly how long ago I went to the Caribbean and, um, I had been to this particular island before and it was a family get together and we went into a restaurant. And We're looking at the menu, and I looked at the waiter and I said, is the manager on duty. And he said, sure is everything okay? Said sure everything's fine. Manager came over to the table and I said, Look, I said, you know, I'm just wondering. I said, Do you have anything? Off menu. And he looked at me and I said, it's I want to try something that everybody here on the island eats that you just can't find in a restaurant. But Everybody eats it. And he said, How would you like some iguana? And I said, Okay. I'll try it and he said. Now you have to understand, he said. There's not a lot of meat to it. And he said, And and it's like, um Like chicken or alligator, a few other meats that really don't have a whole lot of flavor, but they soak up the flavor of whatever sauce there in so basically had iguana in a tomato based sauce. That was just out of this world. Well, yeah, I was picking a lot of bullets out of my teeth. It was like trying to Chad fish. He was constantly picking bones up. But it was good and I think they in some places they call it chicken of the tree. That chicken of the tree. Robert, would you try that? I just want to see the numbers that came up. Okay? Those of them. It's just funny. Okay. You're gonna read the names because I get to him? Yep. Okay. That sounds good we have I want, I would even try and Ghana guano like that you would Have you had alligator Robin? Yes. Have you cock? Yes. I love concrete ear's Yep. Conquers good. I like alligator. Not to my knowledge of every iguana. Okay, but I'm willing to try anything once. You know? So I think Chris is monitoring some calls. We're gonna go ahead and announce, um The winners don't work in here. You're still working, okay? So here's how this worked everybody who's called in whose name is on the list. Gets a number assigned to their name, and then Robin goes on her phone with a random number generator. And whatever three numbers come up 1st 2nd 3rd. That's the numbers we assigned. So she has done that with the numbers, and now she's trying to go on the On the separate pages from each week. See Crist. Takes a picture. Then he Texas the list that he's written our names down on we printed out on our printer so that we have something to hold in your hand. It's a little bit of a process. I got it. You got it. They're gonna announce first, that that third point burns Bob Burns one, the head Bob Burns won the hat. Okay, Congratulations. Bob. Number 44 over here. One. The book. And that is Felix Mayor. Okay, good. And then My birthday came up 13. And I don't know how to say the last name. It's Norman. Yo Felli, Philly. Norman Cofield, Cofield. Hmm. That's who won the muzzle loader. There you go, Norman, you won. Congratulations. Norman Norman Co feel good. Good. We'll get in touch with those put people and get those It goes out to him. The book in the hat will be mailed and I might hand deliver the most letter apparent, but depending if he's in state for one and number, Okay, well, that's good. That's good. And yes, John B. You're right. That song with the bug song wasn't a dog commercials. Yep. It is a funny little song. New question. Ain't no bugs on May I like that song that's keeps up. And Chris came up with a good one, too. I know. Yeah. I don't know if we'll play at this hour or not. He came up with a good We like to find the unusual stuff and play it. I mean, don't get me wrong. Give me Hank Williams Jr. Every break it up. We'll go with that, you know, But, um some of these little funny songs are good too. So we're not all about serious stuff here. Are we robbing? To us? Yeah. Who? Us. So why do you think the calls will cease Nell? Let's talk to us anymore. Now, wait a minute now. Bruce just called in and he's waiting to talk to. You know, Bruce did all right. Let's talk to brace. Good morning, Bruce. How you doing? Good morning, Ellen. Good morning, Robert. Happy New Year. Happy New Year to you. Hey, do you want us to put you in the muzzle loader contest for next October? Hmm. Sam your first. Hey, look, I'm gonna add it to the list for next, doctor. There you go. So what's up? Just called in the mugging for the contest, And I always like to hear you talk about that here you much? No. Espouse your wisdom or met. They like today. What do you think? I kind of think they'd hold title. I don't have a dog so taken by myself. All right. Well, it's wet. Okay, right, And there's nothing frozen so they may hold tight. You may have to kick some brush pals if you don't have a dog. But try this. Where are there? Any woods Where you hunt? There are Go in the woods. Uh, okay. Okay and walk slowly through the woods and look at the basis of the trees. Okay, okay. You have no idea how many times When my mentor, my rabbit hunting meant tour would go in the woods with me, And he'd say, Well, we don't have a dog either just two of us and you know he's kicking hollow logs and crazy thing about the guy. We We had a lot of strip mines and a lot of timber it out areas where the trees were hollow and the rabbits would hold in the hollow trees in the woods, and he go through there with his double barrel 12 gauge. With no trigger guard and use and carried a thing under his arm. And he just tapped the tap the hollow trees with his barrel of his gun to get the rabbits to move me..

The Birth of CB Handles

"In the late. Nineteen fifties. The Federal Communications Commission started requiring licenses for anyone wanting to use a see. That's a citizens band radio. It was easy enough to get a license but CB's got so common that many truckers just didn't bother with it today the FCC truckers and others without licenses came up fictitious names for themselves shadow. I'm not going to get into the story about how I got that name. Even though the FCC stout requiring the senior license in the early Nineteen Eighties. Tradition of handles stuck around. They can be jokes because I used to weigh a hundred pound exercises in wish fulfillment. But I've gone by T. speed before but like slow and slower. Yes appropriated insults to if you Google the words Wild Australian bitch it comes back Dingo sort of. That's my handle Schreider. The heck are you might Crawford here. Might be the first trucker who told me that a CB handle meant to last is rarely something you give yourself given the handle beer cab. Because when he was sitting there drinking beer kept count of how many dad was he saved little tabs. Legit handle is a nickname that takes the reins and he looked like curly from a priest. Who just and he could sound. Act just like in fact Crawford gave me my own him like you're like a ghost. I'm somewhere all of a sudden you show up and would you be in everywhere and being able to write about everything. You need dose writer. That's W. R. I t. e. r. most writer chants. But how might Crawford became? The Mustang is a more interesting story. We're going on a ranch out in Colorado for one hundred dollars a week. He'd come off the road and the nineteen eighties to try his hand is a cowboy out in Colorado. Wow Mustang from out in Nevada or somewhere there you would come to know a wild horse. They name the force. Norman Norman. It was very friendly and he was very playful. He would come up behind you. And take you snows in Knox Cowboy hat off. He's like Mike took on the project breaking Norman to a writer and I can ride most anything. Well didn't always go. Well I climbed up in the saddle. Squeeze my legs together. Which was commanded to get into? You know go forward He didn't walk forward. It straight up. Did you ever try to get a saddle out from between your legs when you're eight foot in the air in coming down and there's no horse under you? I hit hard me the saddle still between my legs and I'm trying to breathe. Norman comes over and I swear to God. This is the truth is some other people. See It would verify norman. Come over then down. Looked at me like are you alright and lick my face like damn dogwood how everybody kept telling me. Mustang man and like any good handle the name stuck mustangs long career in trucking saw both the glory days and the long decline of the truckers. Today call it. The quote original Social Media Boards Heyday in the nineteen seventies when impromptu highway meet and greet for drivers. Cb coffee breaks some called. You got no guys at. You'd be driving down the road and see it coming on and Holler over a bear. Tab Is that you or hockey child is that you when friendships were forged over the airwaves. But we'd go along just BS in the Hallway. Always a social thing. Those things still happen but the steady rise. The cell phone did a number on. Cbs Culture among truckers on the vault. And everybody else cellphone. It became the downfall for a lot of things.

pissing poppins Yes yes I am I was having a very bad day last week and I wasn't planning to see it and I was in town and walk past the print side with hr and I walked into space you happen to have any Stacy's returns and they said no but come back in a few hours we might do so I did and and and they did they had one so I bought it it's cheap and not telling you so not any and it it was it was in the stools let's put it that way and that's you know the Labor bitch about the seat I mean there could but it was pretty good and I found myself sitting next to Mary poppins mother this was the mother of the actress playing Mary poppins when I saw it the week before on its opening I have noticed that Mary during two scenes drinks tea from a teacup and had been holding a teacup with little finger extended which we don't do is we Do because as I think I have explained on this podcast before can you remember it's because they used to do it in the fridge olden days what was it the Court of Louis Fourteen fifteen sixteen and it meant that you had the club if you get drunk you take a little pinky oh P- yeah it was a code for saying I've got the KLOPP up you've got the club yeah we can have into 'cause well yeah you it was not polite to sleep someone without letting them know that you had syphilis so you put your little finger out when drinking tea at court of an evening the other school of thought because that particular strain of syphilis was so strong at the time it made your joints stiffen up so you physically couldn't wrap your fingers round so either way gets it's syphilis related so I was having chat with easy Stalin's mother and during the interval and we were chatting about one or two things and she said Oh some of the costs went shore if they they should be saying mammal mom and I said Oh it's definitely Ma'am and she don't we do not get things rights and at that point I thought well here is my opportunity Yep so I said I just point point one other thing out could you pass this along I don't think we want to syphilis Mary and I think we probably want the little finger touch and I explained to her and she was she was made all the right noises so very interesting when I go and see it next week to see if that fingers touching how can you go and see a show so I honestly got gingy visit stress how obsessed this Mondays
