Van Life: On Being A Van-Dweller - Who Is It For?

"Episode is on van living and the van dwelling life. Let's start with a couple of questions here. What would happen if this past year. Found yourself without a job. Depressed sick unable to pay your basic living expenses like rent or any other situation that you might not have expected. Suppose you became house helpless through no fault of your own. Suppose someone had passed away in your family. Have you given that much thought. Well i hadn't either until just recently. I finished watching nomad land. It's a movie that my sister recommended. Some let's talk a bit about the movie that won the oscar this year. Well nomad land is a twenty twenty american drama film based on the two thousand seventeen nonfiction book no-man's-land surviving america and the twenty first century by jessica bruder. The film is written edited produced and directed by cleal show and stars francis. Mcdermott as van dweller. Working nomad who leaves her hometown after her husband dies. This is what i was telling you about. The unexpected happens. The main character fern finds herself house lewis and now travels around the united states and a van. One of ferns friends says something strikingly true. Though i love this lifestyle. It's a lifestyle of freedom and beauty and connection to the earth. There's a trade off though you gotta learn how to take care of your own crap and that is so true literally and figuratively all of the true life than dwellers are very very much like the character fern end. This movie nomad land that i recommend highly. She finds herself living and a sad situation needing money and help from anyone who can give it to her.

"A nice Oscars that respected the pandemic. And I thought in that regard holistically went really, really well. This is Regina King opening the Oscars. I know that a lot of you people with home want to reach for your remote. You feel like Hollywood is preaching to you. But as a mother of a black son, I know the fear that so many live with and no amount of fame or fortune changes that Okay? Yes, Nicely said nicely said, and very quickly, you know, perfect to sing statement. All right now to the gold's well one of your favorite films in mind, too. On the star of that was Frances McDormand, and she wins four Nomad Land. Nomad land are as expected, won many awards, including best film and Best director, and Frances McDormand won for best. Actress. It was so many of the awards this year were predictable by all the other awards leading up to them and also because rather than be in February, these awards were pushed back too late April, it meant that the award season was just so long. There was so much time for so much echo chamber Internet chatter. Really? These were the most predictable awards in history, and there were very few surprises. Now the word one or two surprises, but they were really very few surprises. So the joy and excitement came or with how everyone was handling the situation, the new way of doing it. Rather than the actual awards themselves. But there was some very good speech is this year They didn't play anyone off. The 32nd rule was just thrown out the window and indeed for the 1st 3rd or so I was getting very nervous that the award ceremony was going to go in for 7.5 half to nine hours, because the first few people were taking five minutes each. Where normally you're allowed to take 30 seconds and that became Kind of worrisome like I wondered how they were going to course correct that live. You know your your friend and mine, Thomas Vinterberg, winning for best international film for another round. It was wonderful that he won and we were so glad that he won and he had this terribly sad story to tell in his speech about the fact that his 19 year old daughter was killed in a car accident four days into the shooting of that film. He didn't even get to that until about 3.5 minutes in his speech, and it was really long speech, and you're feeling this on the one hand joy for him and sadness for him. On the other hand thinking, like, Oh, my gosh, If the speeches or go on this long it's going to take Forever. But somehow the ceremony managed to accelerate as it went along, and it still went only a little bit over three hours. Yes. Frances McDormand. Marvelous, marvelous Actress. This is she's a recess, We said when the gong for best actress for her role in nomad lunches. She's in our bowl. We give this one to our wolf. Oh, what was a letter, But she isn't on both. Frances McDormand is famously an oddball, and she's married to Ethan Coen, who is one of the Coen brothers and you cut away from her to him sitting.

"If I tuned into K Rock, I would hear the song today. This'd yes, like a never green. It's a legacy track at this point. It's a legacy album and again released on the same day, September 24th. It was that first moment that the college records that were being expected to be success is a college were being sent out. They being a local band. They had a whole syriza of records. Prior to that they were a little less sort of hard rock per se. They had a lot more sort of funk element to them. That kind of made them fun. Um, and distinctive they had on earlier record produced by George Clinton of Funkadelic fame. But this was sort of their first big mainstream success. One thing that is interesting to note all five of these bands that we're talking about mostly due to the success of these important records. They're all inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. This was a very essential moment in sort of music history and especially for those of us in the college radio world, where we were kind of finally being taken seriously as being able to recognize the talents. Of these bands before they kind of hit the mainstream. Yeah, but a little bit of sweet, though, don't you think? Because when you listen to this music, and I mean it is so big, it is so mainstream. It doesn't really have any of the revolutionary spirit of indie music or college radio stations in it. Yes. I mean, some of it is a contextual thing to listen to these records and knowing what had come before and how they how different they sounded then was something I mean, I think Nirvana still Remains the gold standard of a band that often attempted to be duplicated. But no one is ever quite matched The magic of what Kurt Cobain was able to sort of put in in terms of these personal, introspective sorts of ideas. Combined with a very vibrant sound of very energetic performance. But you're right in the sense that there is sort of this sense that this was the last to rob for for the college Rock. Moment to really feel like we were. We were doing something truly quote unquote alternative, not just simply the the industry's idea of alternative Eric J. She also wrote it was cause for celebration here in Hollywood. But in China, where she was born, her win was largely censored. The state run media barely reported on the Oscars and mentions of Zao Chow's huge night are reportedly being scrubbed from the Internet. And social media in China, a country that has been collaborating with Hollywood to make blockbuster films for years during us to talk about this is and caucus she's the author of Hollywood made in China. Welcome to the program. Thank you so much for having me, Madeline. Well, okay, So this was a big win for China. Really? And s. So why wouldn't they want to celebrate that? So I think that here it's really important to distinguish the Chinese government from the Chinese people. So from the perspective of the Chinese Communist Party, this isn't necessarily a really big win because Joe has gone on the record being critical of China in a 2013 2013 article and filmmaker magazine. She talked about China is a place where there was full of lies. Um, but it is an amazing win for Chinese filmmaking communities, and I attended the Beijing Film Academy. I'm sure that there are a lot of People who were in the film in the filmmaking world in China who are really excited. However, their comments are being suppressed. And then she goes on to say the moral of that classic is that people at birth are inherently good, so real heartwarming story and so what do you make of what she said in that speech and how it may have been received in China? So I think this is really interesting because on one hand, it's a it is a Chinese classic. It's 1/13 Century Chinese Classic. Um, but the part that's really interesting is that it's not actually taught in schools anymore in China. Um, it's it's been replaced by a patriotic party education..

"Have been a number of significant winners at the Oscars Awards ceremony in Los Angeles. Yes, it's been an Oscars, unlike any other with covert restrictions. In effect, the 93rd Academy Awards has bean celebrating some of the best films. The past year on the red carpet for us, Peter Bows and Tom Brook. Peter, could I start with you? We've We've just found out what the best picture is. Yes, And the best picture is no model on this is the phone that is long being the favorite to win Best picture at the Academy Awards, Directed by Closure Oh, the Chinese filmmaker, she becomes the first woman of color to win best director at the Oscars, and we've just in the last few minutes heard that Frances McDormand has won for best actress for her starring role. In this film, so it really is quite a feat for this phone that tells the story of a group of nomads. It's partially scripted but partially real life because there are some non actors alongside Actors in this film that is set around or shortly after the financial crash of 2000 and eight these people who have lost everything because of what happened in the financial world, going on a journey and the western United States to try to earn some money through some odd jobs. I'm with here in Los Angeles, Tom Brook from the BBC's talking movies. Show and Tom, This is movie has so much better than people thought it has. I mean, it's got through. You know, Matt Land has three trophy is interesting in Frances McDormand, just one for best actress. This is her third Oscar. That I think puts her on a par with Meryl Street, but she doesn't have as many as you. Neither haven't many is. Katharine Hepburn did really good performance from Frances McDormand. I mean, she's most definitely One of American cinema's most reliable and charismatic, leading ladies on this film has done well. It's really the night does belong to note belong to Nomad land so far, and a very diverse night. If we look at these supporting actor and actress categories, both won by actors of color. That's very true. Daniel Cholula, who is British and black, one for best supporting actor and best supporting actress, with one by year Young Eun, who appears playing a grandmother in the film minority, So a very diverse night. Interestingly it's been a good night for women, I think particularly because We had Chloe Zhao winning for best director but also in original screenplay. Emerald Fennel, the British filmmaker. She won in that category That's normally thought of as a male preserve. So definitely progress on just briefly all of this, of course, taking place with the backdrop of covert 19. With the Oscars ceremony taking place at two venues that train station in downtown Los Angeles on the Dolby Theater just very quickly breaking news. Anthony Hopkins has won the award for best actor for his role in the phone. The father Thank you. Thank you. No one expected that you got them both the best picture and the best actor. "In the 93rd annual Academy Awards air happening this evening. And while the pandemic has made the run up to tonight's Oscars ceremony, a very different kind of awards season, one thing has stayed the same. This year's nominations have ignited controversies. So we thought we look ahead to the show by reviewing some of the issues and beefs that have emerged out of this year's nominations. And we're also going to ask who decides what's considered a controversy anyway. To help us answer these pressing Oscar questions we called MPR's own. Aisha Harris, co host of pop culture, Happy Hour. And he sure is with us now. Welcome. Thank you for being here. Thank you, Michelle. How exactly do these controversies get started? Who decides that Something is a controversy. Well, a lot of times it's often a mixture of a couple of different sources for the controversy, often its critics and film writers, You know, part of the Oscars is this generation of publicity and that is Generated by people like myself in the media who are writing about these things. So Sheila NPR at the Times all the trade papers like Variety and the Hollywood reporter there constantly pieces being written about why this nominee or you know this potential winner. Is problematic or why it shouldn't win. And so that's part of what's fueling the controversy. There's also sometimes you know, general public outrage. I think of something like the Oscars so white campaign, which garnered a lot of momentum through social media, and do the work of April rain, who kind of shepherded that on Do you know I think that that's a mixture of things, and on top of that you also have sometimes even the major players in the Hollywood themselves. I'm getting involved, You know, even to Baron a has been very vocal about her criticisms of the Academy and the other filmmakers and actors like her have been at the forefront of Generating these controversies. OK, One question I have is, are these genuinely issues for the most part that either the viewing public has or that critics and writers have Who really spent a lot of time thinking about movies for are these basically campaigns by competing studios to trash each other's work. It's hard to tell sometimes when the studios right work, and when they're not, I think more often not. These criticisms are coming from a place of genuine concern about the state of the of Hollywood state of movie making, and also the state of the world when it comes to especially something like a few years ago, when Green Book one There was already concerned before the movie one that this was, you know, a movie that had a lot of problems with it it it kind of glossed over race and racism. It was. It was very much like something like driving Miss Daisy, which one a few years. 2025 years before and so there's always brings to the surface. A lot of social issues, Andre things that we feel of the moment and race has been top of the mind of the Academy Awards for the last several years now, so I think it's definitely Thies air general grievances that are being aired out, so a lot of people will remember that there's been a lot of focus on the lack of diversity at the Oscars. And among academy members in past years that you referenced that the Oscar so white discussion, which really did seem to arise from the viewing public at a lot of people just kind of got behind the hashtag because they were like, Yeah, this is something that's been on my mind, too. So what's happening with that at this year's awards? Well, this was awards. I think Oscarssowhite has definitely helped this year's awards, because when you look at the nominees this year, there's diversity all across the board. You have lots of women on Guiming lead stories being nominated ah, few of the best picture nominees unlike last year center on non white, non male characters and stories. You have Chloe Jiao and Emerald Fidel, who are not made it for the For best director in that category, and last year, there's a huge controversy because no woman was nominated that year. So I think that this year it's kind of can't down a bit. We're not seeing that controversy so much around the diversity of the Oscars. I'm sure that could come up again and in future years, But this year, it's less about that and more about different kinds of social issues. Aside from identity, aside from gender and race That are coming to the forefront of this year's Oscars. We'll tell me one of them like what's the if you could, If you feel like comfortable ranking it this way, Like what do you think is the biggest controversy to emerge out of this year's awards? And where is it coming from? Well, interestingly enough, the biggest one this year seems to be around Nomad Land, which was directed by Chloe Zhao. And she based the story off of a book, a heavily reported journalistic book. That sort of took aim at Amazon and the way in which it's might exploit its workers the way in which especially older people tend to be stuck in these very low paying jobs for this giant conglomerate and not getting The right treatment in the right benefits, and her film has come under fire because it doesn't really deal with that in the same way it kind of takes out the politics of Amazon. While there are scenes of Frances McDormand's character fern in the movie working at an Amazon workplace, it's not really about that. It's more about her sort of Finding herself as this nomad traveling from job to job and people have taken issue with that, and how is closure responded to those criticisms. Has she? Yes, she She's framed it as a this is a character study more so than a story that is focused on Amazon. She's also said that you know, in every frame of the film. There is a commentary about the way in which we treat our especially older people in our older generations, the way in which you kind of discard them. So that's been her defense and I think personally myself, I Understand the critics against no bad land for those reasons, But I also think that if you look at it as you have to take what's on the screen, and for me, I was very moved by no med land. But that seems to be the biggest controversy at the Academy Awards this year. Are there any other nominated films that are causing, you know a stir or discussion at this year's awards? It's been a pretty quiet year, I'd say the only other film that seemed to have gotten a lot of criticism, and this has come mostly from you know, film critics and film writers and online conversations that I've seen was promising young woman which you know has been very, very hotly debated for the way in which it depicts. Violence against women revenge stories, but I also think that the film hasn't really had the same momentum is Nomad land. So even if it weren't to win any awards, or any of the major awards it's nominated for. I don't think we could necessarily point to that controversy being the main reason why I think Nomad Land just has So much build and in such good will toward it that you know, promising a woman even if it had ended a different way. Probably wouldn't have been at the forefront of the way Nomad land is And I think that this is the question. I think some people might have. I know. I think I may have it just why does this matter? I mean, does it seem as though does the audience really care about this? The the audience writ large because you know, American viewing audiences really international viewing audience is a really Different. And where is this? Mainly a conversation that takes place among a select group of people who get paid to write about and talk about movies. Does it matter? It matters in part because Hollywood is a taste maker, and Hollywood is a major power player. I mean, just look at The way in which there are some Hollywood studios in Hollywood filmmakers who are saying they're not going to film anymore and in Georgia until you know everything going on with the voting rights stuff until that is fixed, So I think that there's a lot of power in Hollywood and also like I said the Oscar so white controversy has led to the academy, greatly increasing its membership in allowing different people and a wider range of people to be in the academy, who probably wouldn't have been 10 years ago. And so that's leading to a giant. Change, and I think you know it kind of is the blueprint. I think for a lot of other industries toe look toward as to how to create better inclusion and equity. That is Aisha Harris, co host of NPR's pop culture. Happy Hour. You.

But that seems to be the biggest controversy at the Academy Awards this year. Are there any other nominated films that are causing, you know a stir discussion at this year's awards? I mean, does it seem as though just the audience really care about this? And you're here because Sunday night is this thing called the Oscars 23rd annual Oscars? Yes, it seems like it's losing its luster each and every year. A little. One reason is because this is the fourth year in a row. There's no host. No. Nos. Have you applied by the way they offered me the job, but I didn't like to pay. I was going to get two tickets to the Liberator tarp. It's just the just the swag bags. A lot of where 60 grand. I heard he imagine they traipse in there. I mean, these people can afford all that. What do they need that Just a little extra incentive. Yeah, right. No matter carrot on a stick. So you you're going about it. I haven't seen any of these films. Well, I saw five out of six. And many of them, you know, are not in the movies anymore. Just streaming somewhere. When it does you have to have that service to get it. Uh, tricky If you don't mind. Also, I'm going to ask. You attribute question for tickets to the horizon Sentiment, but they ask your weighs £8.5. 13.5 inches high. How did they get the name Oscar? People ask that all the time. Well, there's a lady by the name of Margaret Herrick. She was the Uh, Academy Library in one day, she said, You know that looks like Mike Call Oscar that's stuck for certain. Is that crazy? So this kind of androgynous looking statue look like her uncle Alaska First Oscars was 1927, the first color film to win was gone with the wind. Two Sequels have won best picture. You mean they film that was actually in color in come out with people of color right now in color are actually declare for Yes. Thank you for that. Two Sequels have one godfather to in 1974 in 2000 and three Lord of the Rings Return of the King. Parasite was the first foreign film to win best picture. The actress with the most nominations will take a guess. Actress Elizabeth Taylor. Meryl Streep with 18 Okay, trivia question for 10 92 to 66 80 for two tickets to a rise in who was the actor who has the most nominations not wins. Most nominations encounter. My first car color will be the winner of those two tickets to any participating horizon Cinema. Okay, Now you're my choices for the best actor. I think it's going to Cheswick Mossman. For my Rainey's black bottom. You know, he passed away this year. I think he's a sentimental favorite number one. There's the guy that started Black Panther Black Panther 42 with checking around. He was James Brown. Also terrific. The best actress, this is a toss up. Viola Davis for the same film or Francis McDermott for Nomad Land. I'm going with Frances McDormand. She was terrific supporting actor Daniel Okay, Hula for Judas and the Black Messiah. Best actress Yang you young, young. Easy for you to say from a film called Manera M I n a R. I never heard of it. Yes is it didn't make much, and it was only on scripts for streaming, but it was very good, actually. Best director. Chloe's on C H A N for No, Madeline. And the best picture Nomad land well. Well, your record last year with five out of six. For the last three years or four years, I was five out of six. It's not bad. And now, of course, every year, the ratings keep going down and down and down. You know what I'd like to see them do stop with the politics. You know, people go to the movies that people go to sporting events. They wanna get away from politics. They could play that here, right. It's escapist entertainment. It's escaped. Entertainment is escape. And when I wanna watch a ball game, I wanna watch a good movie. I don't want to be lectured about. Whether it's liberal or conservative, whatever. Just give us some good entertainment, but I think that's the reason why they're shooting themselves in the foot. Soldiers could be virtual this year. By the way, it's not gonna be people in nothing, but they're going to be there. Yes, but the audience, no audience. I think ratings this year's would be for this code. "Let's dive right back in with best director. Nominees are thomas winterberg for another round. David fincher from bank. Lee isaac chung for me. Ninety eight clue how for nomad land and emerald. Fennell for promising young woman stephen thompson. Gimme a will win and it should win in for will end. Should i'll go with clue jal i think she does beautiful work in. No maitland. I do wanna put in a good word though for emerald fennell and promising young woman. This film is so interesting and juggling so many tones this movie could have flown off the rails in so many ways and at the same time. It is absolutely gorgeous to look at what this movie is doing with. Color is so striking an inventive. It has an electric movie and when a movie feels electric off the way through you can often give the director a lot of credit for that. So i do want to put in a good word for emerald fennell but for will end should in this category. I'm going to go with kobe. Zhao all right fair. Enough i show. What do you think should win. Khloe joe will win. Make big mac. Yes so i think it's going to be david fincher because let's not forget that so few years ago. Even though moonlight wind up winning damian chazelle one for la la land and this is the category especially as director where they love to see the flashiest most technical intricate. "Didn't wanna watch them that way. I think you know, not that the academy will ever acknowledge it, but I think we'll probably have In terms of percentage of voters, possibly one of the lowest voter participation years ever because of all these different reasons, but I think also at the same time, it's hard to say that there is a Passionate, enthusiastic bias against Netflix. For instance, when they this year accrued more nominations, then only two other years on record, the most recent being The year that of 2003 represent recognizing films from 2002. When Miramax had something like 40, I think Netflix this year had 35 or 36. Yes, There were not a lot of theatrical releases this year, but you know they've made a stand this year they acquired from Paramount, for instance, trial in Chicago seven, which is one of two movies they have nominated for best picture. So I think that we're not going to go back to conversations about Will Netflix being shunned by the academy because it's Netflix. I think that for better or worse, this expedited things for both of those situations faster than they would have otherwise happen. So I'm I'm not gonna. I'm not going to make you do too many predictions, although that is what you do, Scott. You do predictions, but we'll have you do a few predictions. But we're gonna know too, that still a fluid thing. And as we've seen, not that long ago, you can get some real shockers when it comes to the final theosophy her goes to but Will go out way out on a limb and say it looks like a very good year for Nomad Land Rocket does. I mean it's one everything up to this point that usually are harbingers for best picture. And it's got seven fellow nominees, and it's competing with on the preferential ballot that has sometimes thrown a wrench into things because the academy again uses this rank system that None of the other awards, but the pig brought the Producers Guild used so there's always a chance that you know with that voting system, a sort of compromise choice can emerge. I think that's probably what Happened. For instance, the air that green Book beat Roma. There was a lot of extenuating circumstances that year, but so you know if it's not know that land, it would probably be trial. The Chicago seven Because that is ah, again. It's been heavily campaign that's sort of a middle ground movie. But I would have to say that at this point Nomad Land and its director Chloe's Outlook very strong. I think actresses a little tricky or maybe Yeah, It's really interesting because obviously, if people love Nomad land as much as they appear to, then you can't rule out. The whole movie revolves around Frances McDormand, But she has 12 best actress Oscars before. So some people feel like that makes people less inclined to vote for her and maybe more inclined to go for somebody. Like Carrie Mulligan for promising young woman who has never won. So Carrie Mulligan right now is sort of the odds on favorite but I don't think anyone would be shocked if Francis McDormand pulled out a third win, which for females on Lee, Katharine Hepburn and Meryl Street can claim to have three or more acting. Awards. Yeah, For what it's worth, which is literally nothing. I would feel it's Frances McDormand just because she has so much the heart of the movie. But then again, Yeah. Maybe people have Frances McDormand award fatigue will see. Thank you, Scott. Yeah, thank you. That's Scott Feinberg. "The husband where the husband played music to play her off like she was going on too long. Which could be your the husband like. Have somebody like nobody it. Not that i would recognize the husband. But i could tell have somebody. I wouldn't recognize like behind. Turnout just looks like you're really her husband and board and people don't understand. Zoom quality is only so good that it was all muffled the music because it was too loud and then muffled her speech in real life. Actually what happens is zoom. Doesn't play music like that. It will pick up that it's music and actually turn the sound off so unless you're paying playing it directly from a computer it will meet you did just came in garbled the noise. Yeah it's it's not gonna play it like play if you're on zoom call play from your phone just like hey listen to this as if you could put it i speak early. It's into the telephone. No one could hear it. Zoom actually takes away the sound The soul the cartoon won for best animated film and it got. I think a couple of music awards and tracy morgan. I think best original score and he goes in your winner is sal and then he looks like the guy. No five movies period and their cartoon. So they're pretty simple. Titles right on word over the moon. These are simple. Things broke down palace. Something like this so he he looks. He goes sal and then he looks at the piece of paper goes he goes to fix and they never mind and then were taken too long and so then he goes. I meant seoul and then by the time. He says that the trailers already going or people already being introduced. I mean he wasn't a bad car accident so we can blame it on that. I guess he gets another million. Every time you folks up you know say come on a best screenplay the trial of the chicago. Seven aaron sorkin won- nomad land with. Who is that. Who's the who's the one who is the woman from the original fargo. Frances mcdormand very good cheese in this movie. Sometimes i play silence trailers with myself. She's in this movie. Nomad land didn't win for best screenplay but at won for best movie period. This is i happen to see a yesterday. this is just. I don't know what the fuck i'm watching the ever like. Whoa what world are in. She just she walks around the desert. She's upset because she lost her job and her husband died. You never find out the story of either and she just travels in walks around the country. I i don't get what i was watching it. What could be the screenplay though. I walk over here sidewalk over here. Happy and do manual labor. Sometimes okay good i. I don't know if it's a joke. Could somebody explain this movie to me. I don't get it then. It adds a movie ends. And i'm like yeah why not. Now 'cause sure the end sir. I know even though she ever found piece i guess so. Was it pray. Love of the desert or something deep love probably did she eat in that she added a lot. Oh julia roberts got so fat. Yeah make mention of it for several scenes. Oh i'm so fat. Her super fat friend went to talion restaurant. They're like i can't eat this anymore. Because i'm so fucking fat. It was originally called eap get fat but then they wanted to like make it. More diverse best tv series drama was the crown with a lot of actors and actresses winning things. I do want to check that out in that. Category for best tv series drama the mandalorian the the star wars show that i've been watching. And what a slog. This is this man. The lower every episode he goes on he's got to go on some you know debt defying mission. Because he's a bounty hunter. They really force these. He's like i'm hungry. I wanted to sandwich. This guy like i'll give you one. You just gotta go to crip lock and kill the invisible death drag. He's seems fair. I saying what's and then he goes on some half hour. Adventure has nothing to do with the rest of the show necessarily. He's carrying around this baby. Yoda you probably heard about like not. None of these shows have anything to do with baby. Yoda he's just going around killing things. The mandalorian is that with the wonder woman thing. Is that a totally different thing. I don't know a wonder woman thing means but it is with the the woman that was controversial online and won't work with star was ever again. What's the show that you're watching that you actually like our one division one division and the mandalorian. Two different shows totally. I've been half listening to you. Talk about this. I thought the mandalorian was like a vehicle in the other show right now the totally different ones. Great one stupid cool. Are you watching. Any of these nikki. No i watched soul. But i out of everything you've said no i mean i watched sow but i haven't watched mandalorian best actor in the film speaking of superheroes drama chadwick boseman for martinis black bottom and see because a super hairs because he's dead. They had somebody come out and they didn't say if he was him or not they were in. The guy was in a black panther costume and said thank you very much very very offensive very offensive a best director best director nomad land winner. What the fuck walk over there walk over here. I don't get it angers me it whatever's artsy with whatever is artsy and you're confused like great. That was the point because we didn't know we were writing so we want to pretend we meant to do that. I've if are two things that have no point get good reviews because as a film guy you must be like. It's gotta be something deepen their a plank so first guy rates eight plus everybody just follows like you can't be the astle that goes now what she just walked around can't be there's no way the a best film best director best musical or comedy baratz sequel good. He also won for best actor but the woman was up for best actress. She didn't win. she's really good she was. That's tough tough job. Yeah row yeah. Three different languages are going on your improvising. You're pissing people off to react with the street. You can't fuck it up. There's only one take that is tough. And then you're the lead with this dude. Who's like the god of of this. Yeah tires genre right. He's the best i. She was amazing now. When nomad land gets best director best film and everybody takes drama more seriously than comedy. So that's the highest award. But then frances mcdormand is up for best actress and it's all about her walking around you. Just see her face. she doesn't win. How does that happen. The best movie best director. It's only about one person. Nothing for her though all explain that act no we didn't like she wasn't the best out of five but the movie was so good he. The director directed someone. We could tell that he directed somebody else. It would be even better right..

By the academy all right and are not gonna say the name of it because it's not ad for them right. But i'll say i think one of the reasons it was snubbed is because it had really unassuming performances and what i really like about. Nomad land is frances. Mcdormand is awesome. But it's but it doesn't feel like a you know like hollywood people you know pretending to be people none none of that. It's great francis.
