"Jump trading is being sued in an Illinois court for allegedly helping terraform labs manipulate the price of Tara USD. Court documents alleged jump bought millions of UST tokens in 2021 in an attempt to manipulate the price. Plaintiff te Wu Kim accuses jump and his CEO of breaking the law in seeking unjust enrichment. The suit says junk trading was a significant financial supporter and early partner of terraform labs. From November 2019 to September of 2020, jump made several agreements with terraform and its affiliates. These agreements allowed them to borrow tens of millions of Luna tokens and offer market making services for transactions in Luna, UST and AUS. The deals allowed jump to buy Luna tokens at a low price and then resell them to make a profit. The lawsuit states that in May of 2021 the UST stablecoin lost its pay. This led terraform and do Quan to coordinate trades to boost the price. The filing alleged that terraform and quant secretly conspired with jump trading to manipulate the market instead of acknowledging the issue publicly. They did so by making secret trades to maintain the $1 peg of the stablecoin. Jump trading purported scheme involved buying over 62 million UST tokens between May 23rd and May 27th of 2021. This caused the price of UST to increase to $1 artificially. To reward jump for its alleged manipulation, terraform labs and Quan gave jump over 61.4 million Luna tokens at a discount of over 99% from the market price. Jump resold those Luna tokens in the market for a profit over $1.28 billion. Bloomberg reported on March 13th that U.S. prosecutors are investigating a chap group discussion on telegram. This chat involved jump trading, Alameda research in Jane street group, discussing a potential bailout for the UST stablecoin. The U.S. Department of Justice is the investigating the stablecoin collapse that wiped out $40 billion from the tarot ecosystem in May of 2022. The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the U.S. attorney's office for the southern district of New York have recently questioned former terraform labs employees. In March, Quan was arrested in Montenegro for allegedly using false documents. Juan was released on bail for €400,000 on May 12th and is currently under house arrest. South Korean and U.S. authorities are seeking his extradition. Meta mask added PayPal as a payment option for buying Ethereum. This feature is only available to U.S. customers. Meta masks claims to be the first web three wallet to offer this integration with PayPal. So what the integration does is it allows Ethereum transfers from PayPal to meta mask. This increases self custody options. However, users expressed more interest in meta mask launching its own token. Now, meta mask advised users to be aware of mask token scams and clarified that there are no immediate plans for an AirDrop. The collaboration was announced in December, but payments were recently launched. Users can now use their PayPal balance linked bank account or debit card to add Ethereum directly to their meta mask wallet. You can easily purchase Ethereum using meta masks browser extension, mobile app or portfolio feature. The buy crypto feature accepts debit and credit cards as well as bank transfers. Now, apart from PayPal, meta mask already supports various payment channels such as coinbase pay, moon pay, sardine, transact, and wire. PayPal disclosed in a recent quarterly report that it managed $943 million in crypto assets as of March 31st. That's a 56% increase from the previous quarter's 604 million. Meta mask partnered with moon pay and late March to enhance its services in Nigeria. The United Nations has also accused North Korea of financing its missile and nuclear programs through cryptocurrency theft. Despite criticism and warnings, North Korea continues to prioritize its military efforts. Last month, they claimed to have tested their most powerful missile yet, which experts fear could cause significant damage to other countries, including the United States. North Korean cybercriminals have adopted a tactic of stealing cryptocurrencies through sophisticated hacks. Chain analysis said that these scumbags drained $1.7 billion worth of digital assets through various attacks in 2022. The Lazarus group is tied to the North Korean government. They were behind some of the most significant exploits last year, including that attack on the ronin network. Missed track reported that the Lazarus group had stolen $100 million from the harmony protocol earlier this year. That is the finding that the elliptic enterprise also suggested. On Thursday, may 11th, a report came out that said that the IRS is collaborating with Ukrainian law enforcement. They're working together to stop Russians from using cryptocurrencies to bypass sanctions. After posting an Ethereum wallet address on its social media page, nearly $3 million worth of digital assets had been transferred to that address. In a medium post published later, defrost explained that the V one hacker returned the stolen funds to an address controlled by the project developers. Defrost stated that it will soon start scanning the data on chain to identify the rightful owners of the assets and will return them accordingly. The process may take some time because different users had varying proportions of assets and debt, but it will be concluded swiftly. In other hacking news, thieves have stolen approximately $8 million from the bit keep wallet. Pick keep users reported that their funds were being transferred without their permission. The bit keep team confirmed that some package downloads have been hacked and installed with code by the attackers, which means if your funds are stolen, it may be because you download it or update it in unofficial released version that was hijacked. The bit keep team told its users to transfer their funds to a wallet from official sources like Google Play and the Apple App Store. They also suggested using new wallet addresses because previous 1s may have been leaked to hackers. The team asked affected users to submit relevant materials through a Google form to help with the investigation. One suspected hackers while it has more than $5 million in digital assets. Although the final amount stolen is not yet known, over $8 million in tether, die, binance coin, and Ethereum have been stolen so far. Hackers are still transferring the funds to multiple wallet addresses. The big key wallet suffered an exploit on October 17th. With the attackers stealing $1 million of binance coin. The exploit occurred through a service that enabled token swaps. The wallet company suspended the service and promised to reimburse all affected users. Member of North Korea's Lazarus group have launched a massive fishing campaign targeting people who invest in NFTs. The hackers used almost 500 fake domains to trick their victims. Slow mist is a blockchain security company. They published a report on December 24th. This report showed how North Korean advanced persistent threat groups or APT groups tricked people who invested in NFTs into giving up those NFTs. The hackers used fake websites that looked like different NFT platforms and projects. Some of the fake websites were made to look like a project related to the World Cup. And other fake websites pretended to be places like open sea X two Y two and rarible. Slow missed said that some of the fake websites offered to quote malicious mitts that this means that they tricked people into thinking they were creating a real NFT by connecting their wallet to the website. In reality, the NFT was fake. The victim's wallet was left vulnerable to hacker who could then access it. So miss report showed that many of the fishing sites use the same IP address. For example, 372 of the NFT fishing websites used one IP. And 320 NFT fishing websites used a different one. This report also said that the phishing campaign has been happening for several months. The earliest registered domain name was created about 7 months ago. The hackers used other tactics to fish for information. They recorded visitor data and saved it to external sites. And they linked images to targeted projects. Once the hacker had the visitors data, they would then run a tax scripts on the victim. This gave the hacker access to the victim's access records, authorizations, and use of plugin wallets. They could also see sensitive information like the victim's approved record in sig data. Once the hacker has this information, they can access the victim's wallet and see all their digital assets. Slow mist said that this is just a small part of the problem. They only analyzed a small portion of the materials and found some of the characteristics of the fishing attacks used by North Korean hackers. Slow mist gave an example of how successful the fishing attacks were. One fishing address was able to get 1055 NFTs. They made a profit of 300 eth, a $367,000. Slow mist also said that these same North Korean group was responsible for a fishing campaign on neighbor that was documented by prevailing on March 15th. North Korea has been involved in many cryptocurrency theft crimes in 2022. A report from South Korea's national intelligence service on December 22nd said that North Korea stole $620 million worth of cryptocurrencies this year. In October, Japan's national police agency warned the country's crypto asset businesses to be cautious about the North Korean hacking group. The SEC has requested to seal the hinman speech documents. The SEC said that they're not relevant to the court's summary judgment decision. This request was made on December 22nd in the motion to seal summary judgment document. The hinman speech documents relate to a speech given by William hinman in 2018 about Ethereum and whether or not it's a security. Hinman was a former director of the SEC's corporation finance division. Now, ripple thinks the hinman speech documents are important for its case against the SEC. The SEC has requested that the documents be sealed and that any references to them be removed from the papers of the defendants because they have no relevance to the courts summary judgment decision. The SEC believes its mission is more important than the public's right to access the documents. What you have to wonder, what is chair gensler hiding and why? I mean, we paid for these documents. I would expect and I would hope that justice in getting things done right is more important to the government's regulators. It's almost like they're hiding something personal. Now the SEC has also requested the seal information about its expert witnesses. These are investors who submitted declarations and internal documents reflecting the debate and deliberation by SEC officials. This request comes only a few weeks after ripple labs filed its final submission against the SEC on December 2nd. This indicates that the legal battle may soon be over. Ripple was able to access the hinman speech documents on October 21st after 18 months, but the SEC insisted on keeping them competitive. Well, that's what's going on with the fall of FTX. Except for the concern is both valid and real. It's being seen as a warning for the need for more careful regulation by the public and private sector players in the United Kingdom. The Bank of England deputy governor Sir John cunliffe recently gave an interview to Sky News in which he emphasized the need for increased protection for investors in the UK who want to invest in cryptocurrency markets. He emphasized that people who want to use or invest in cryptocurrencies should have a structure in place that provides consumer protection and integrity similar to that of conventional financial markets. He explained that the growing interest in cryptocurrency markets from financial institutions and retail users is the main reason for the need for increased regulatory oversight in the United Kingdom. He stated we had banks and investment funds and others who wanted to invest in it and I think we should think about regulation before it becomes integrated with the financial system and before it becomes a systemic problem. He also used the collapse of FTX as an example of a situation where existing regulatory parameters that apply to traditional finance sector could have provided protection to users who lost money. He also mentioned that issues such as missing client funds, conflicts of interest between different operations and transparency audit accounting arose in the collapse of FTX. Cunliffe compared the situation to the gambling sector in the UK. He stated that investors should have access to a regulated environment that prevents them from losing access to funds, like what happened with FTX. Mitch McConnell is a partner at investment firm blockchain co investors. He believes that financial institutions and regulators still see value in blockchain technology and digital assets in the post Brexit British economy. He stated, quote, British financial institutions and banks, many of whom are already investing heavily in blockchain technology, continue to want to participate in the digitalization of commerce, which starts with digital assets, monies and commodities. He also believes that the collapse of FTX shows the importance of prudent regulation. He also mentioned that astute regulators in both the U.S. and the UK are distinguishing between offshore and fraudulent enterprises like FTX and legitimate blockchain technology solutions that enable the digitalization of assets, money and commerce. Meanwhile, Japan's financial services agency will lift a ban on the distribution of foreign stablecoins. The ban on foreign stablecoins like tether and USD C will be lifted in 2023. Japan's new stablecoin regulations will allow local exchanges to trade stablecoins as long as they follow certain rules. These rules include things like keeping deposits safe and limiting the amount of money that can be sent. The report says that if stablecoin payments become more popular, it could make international money transfers easier and cheaper. In order to allow stablecoin distribution in Japan, more regulations related to the preventing of money laundering will be needed. That's according to the FSA. The agency recently began collecting feedback on proposals to lift the ban on stablecoins in Japan. A bill to ban non banking institutions from issuing stablecoins was passed by Japan's parliament in June of this year. This new measure will greatly affect cryptocurrency trading in Japan. As no local exchanges currently offer trading in stablecoins like tether or USD C. None of the 31 Japanese exchanges registered with the FSA, including blitz fire and coincheck, were trading stablecoins as of November of this year, according to official data. A bit flyer, one of Japan's largest cryptocurrency exchanges currently has 5 cryptocurrencies that they trade, including Bitcoin, eth, Bitcoin, cash, XRP, and stellar. Japanese authorities have been busy creating regulations for cryptocurrencies. The ruling party is tax committee in Japan, approved a proposal on December 15th that removes the requirement for crypto companies to pay taxes on paper gains from issued tokens. Previously, local regulators also advised against using algorithmic stablecoins like Terry USD. And it seems like crypto winner is hacking season. Because we do have some hacking news for you. First off, we have defrost finance. There are decentralized finance protocol. They announced that they were hacked on December 23rd. Pec shield claims that the hack may have been a rug pull that resulted in the theft of $12 million. Another security company stated that it has been unable to contact members of the finance team. On December 25th, the defrost team posted a series of tweets explaining that a first attack used a flash loan to drain funds from its V two product. They set a second larger attack exploited the owner key on its V one product. The protocol, which provides leverage trading on the avalanche blockchain, did not disclose the amount of funds that were taken. Pec shields analysis shows that the attack on defrost finance involved the use of a fake collateral token and manipulated pricing. Defrost finance has about $13 million in locked funds in recent weeks. According to DeFi Lama data. However, that amount dropped to less than $93,000 on December 25th. If the attack on defrost was a rug pull, it's unusual because the team behind the scheme typically goes silent and can't be contacted. However, defrost finance announced that the attack and stated in a tweet that it is willing to negotiate with the perpetrators for the return of the stolen funds. Which usually that's something you don't do if you're doing a rug pull. Despite this, efforts to reach defrost finance through Twitter were unsuccessful because direct messages have been disabled on the account. Because they're asking for info. On December 26th, certificate tweeted that it tried to contact multiple members of the team, but received no response. And accompanying graphics stated that cerdic confirmed defrost finance is an exit scam. DeFi yield is a company that provides a security layer for smart contracts to help investors avoid scams and hacks. They said that it conducted an audit of defrost finance one year ago and identified the smart contract vulnerability that was used in the hack. On December 26th, cerdic issued a warning stating that defrost finance had suffered an exit scam. This warning came just as defrost announced that the hacker involved in the V one hack but not the V two hack returned the funds. Cervix stated that it had seen an exit scam on defrost finance on December 24th, and that it had tempted to contact multiple members of the team, but got no response. The team behind defrost finance, by the way, is not KYC. But cerda is using information that it has to assist authorities. Immediately after the exploit, pec shield also issued a warning, stating that the operation was a rug pull. I would stop at a circle. K or bp for coffee before. I'm going to go there. Get some ronco or renault. Noko marley is obsessed with this drink at starbucks called like the dragon juice. It's called a dragon juice or dragon drink. Okay it's like a dragon fruit Juice i'm gonna look it up dragging drink starbucks. She's absolutely. It's a tropical inspired. Pick me up. There aren't quite as many as one of them she said. Never forget to your own cup and of course we hear that but she took it in a very specific focused entrepreneurship way. I really appreciate it. Because sometimes all i need to do is just taken our in recent blogs about entrepreneurs in success or i know i'm struggling with something and just like look it up like let's tie by advertising or gosh about her website or even just about getting more clients they need to get out of my own head which is really hard on the team right on or even just listening to a podcast that all of a sudden that fire ignites again and i don't feel like overwhelmed by other things. I okay this is that they want to do right now. I'm with you. Yeah i do. I do the same thing now. I'm in corporate. But i'm still do what you said you know when i need to take that entrepreneurship. "Status say again. Here's the problem i have with that. You know it's okay. They're they're private business. They're actually Warren buffett everyone knows warren buffet and berkshire. We'll guy on him. Geico is basically owned by that. And that's that's warren buffett's cash cow has geico. That's where he gets a lot of his money to invest. What i'm saying is if you are gyco insured or you get hit by a gyco customer and gyco tells you that some people think say they have to go there now. Gyco will say we never say that. Well that's what you were. Well the but that's what they in for all. I'm telling you is no that that's shop has agreed to gyco that they will only do that first estimate and they have to do it within two hours which sounds really great but today's cars are so complex. That is absolutely not possible. If you go to geico shop and you should ask that question do you get a supplement this if you find additional damage. Look them in the eye when you ask that because they can't and if there is additional damage which for the love of god the chances of there not being additional damage as that repair progresses through the process the chances of there not being additional damage is so slammed as ridiculous. And then you have to ask yourself. Is the shop going to foot the bill. I'll tell you they can't afford to and they know that you're not gonna know that whether or not that was fixed properly or did that rail get replaced that floor piece get replaced or did they just glue it back together. Because you can't see it. I'm gonna tell you that's a huge possibility and as you can see. I'm getting a little route riled up because you have a choice. These insurance company programs that they say oh. We'll go to our shop. It's going to be great. They're not there for you. Therefore they're they're there for the insurance company and geico just rose to the list of mine of the most despicable practice on the planet to take. I would even go so far as to say trillion dollar business and go to a body shop that so desperate for work that they say you have to get it. The first time in anything else is on your nickel who would sign up for. That does make sense. Did i was. I clear word to me because i'm pretty little back. Knowledge around body again just realized guys. I had rattle. You have the right to go to any shop you choose. That insurance company is mandated to pay a fair price. No one's asking for more than if guy on the top of my list of despicable practices and that is despicable and it. It should not be tolerated so with that said.
