ET so al if you like to join is six one five seven three seven nine nine eight six one take some your phone calls before this happens but understand we may have to cut you off in the middle of it because the president's gonna be speaking they said earlier in the week the Betsy to boss was going to be on the stage with the president in this bit the briefing she's gonna talk about to how you can educate your kids at home and this kind of stuff and I don't know who else I don't know whether found she's going to be there or birds or any of the other folks the route the regular players I'm sure Mike pence is going to be there and I'm sure there's gonna be a lot of bashing of Thomas Massie but I'm telling you this guy was just looking out for the American people are you can look out for the American people and still give him the money I mean the year those are theirs are not mutually exclusive but I think what he did was he was trying to make sure that everybody was on record and there's no reason why they couldn't be because we were told all we can have a voice vote and then we can't have a roll call vote and that never made sense to me to start with them or why can't we have a roll call vote if you have a yeah that I understand the difference right the congressmen and women but being I use congressman is a generic they come into the chamber and then they they announced the bill they say all in favor and all opposed no and this is the way it happens every time and then you get somebody who calls for roll call but it happens almost on every bill that's ever been before Congress people on a roll call vote they want people on record and then they ask again without objection a roll call vote and then they start the ticker and then you seen on C. span dozens of times they mill about this thing takes forever you watch the tally of the Democrats and the Republicans in the bill and then at the end they gavel and they make the announcement of what the result was and they could have easily done that here the same thing they were see I was on the impression yesterday with the time of this for some procedural move and I thought it was because there were too many people there were adults or didn't want to be in the chamber but you got to be in the chamber for voice what they were telling us that it would delay it by Danes and I'm going I don't really understand that it never delays it by days before it delays it for about thirty forty five minutes Dorothy you're up next the Phil Valentine show hi Dorothy while hi dot them all right I have a few questions that saying that I wondered you know everybody was recommended diet you know when I first started giving out orders and the like I didn't understand what you what you said what now what are your number one job per se he was recommended people a fair number of closings of Bangor and address yeah they were you know deciding how to do things differently and to help you okay right now I wondered are you know already people that work in come out and get you know like they were sick they stayed in and then I came downstairs and then I went got tested on this wondering you know if that really help for other people other than the people at work saying in that respect and went out our monolith running everywhere because I think what we heard people running out of the way down here right now and I like it even over a lot when my husband works back from New York yeah the Connecticut Rhode Island there are a couple young couple you know what they're talking about at the end of that you know people make it out out is like today I think when you began and they were told to stay home to go on a normal day home again about Michigan well look good let me let me address some of this in the the kind of I would think according to the health care experts were by stays home and staying away from everybody else those who have it will develop symptoms they'll get treated and they'll continue to stay home those who didn't have it will not get it so proud mingling amongst one another and you know going to basketball games and what have you then now you're going to get you're going to get the disease we come into contact with somebody so I think that made common sense I'm you know when they first started to what here's how this thing unraveled R. or unfolded I don't wanna say unraveled because I think it was an orderly process there it was sort of like triage on what we should start remember March madness was one of the first things March madness was gonna come up is going to be the weekend of spring break for everybody as I said I usually take that off because my kids were on spring break I only got one left in college and we usually watch March madness usually go to Pensacola beach and you know just enjoy ourselves so they canceled the fans first they said we're gonna have March madness but we're not gonna have fans and then Duke and Kansas said they're suspending all other athletic programs and right after that they said March madness is all because you really can't have March madness throughout Duke and Kansas so that was all the NBA I remember I quoted you on and I said they were going to have it be arenas where the NBA games were going on and lebron James says if I walk into an empty arena I'm not going to play and he says we're going to have fans so we were all saying okay let's not over react and then we started seeing the cases in Washington state and it started going to the nursing home no they didn't tell us that to start with I mean they just told us there were there was an outbreak in Washington state and the lack of information early on was really staggering when you look back on it because it wasn't until another weekend to it and I remember when we had the Surgeon General Jerome Adams and Dr Adam is going to be in says what I want people to understand is this the average age is eighty eighty and I went my gosh that's information we could are used and so you know we didn't we we started progressing then and then as it started spreading across the country to California and then when I got to New York I started freaking out and said we gotta shut everything down and that's when that started happening and that was the week of spring break because I was on vacation and that's when our company send everybody home and and and the rest of it so it's a prudent thing I was all for it at that point okay let's give this a try let's do a week maybe two but I'm going past that we're talking about completely destroying the economy we're doing a quick time out it looks like they may be who knows their milling around in the press briefing room we'll take a quick time out and then we'll come back to have some running room on the other side will have to interrupt this thing six one five seven three seven nine nine eight six we're back after this is.
Social distancing prevents infections, but it can have unintended consequences
"Social distancing is an important way to slow down the spread of the corona virus we know that by now the keeping your distance from other people especially when things feel stressful and uncertain like they do that can be isolating and lonely NPR Sarah McCammon looks at how we are all trying to cope as a writer lily Burana already spends a lot of time working alone at home about an hour outside New York City and as an extrovert Brana says she relies on her social network to balance out those lonely hours it's really hard because at the end of the day I look forward to sending my laptop and taking my daughter to a playground or meeting a friend in a museum and all of those things have to be tabled for now I'm out of a sense of obligation to not turn myself into an accidental actor Rana said she's healthy as far as she knows but she's been voluntarily cutting out most social activities in an effort to do her part to slow the contagion she is relying on social media even more than usual to feel connected I don't know how people in TB cemetery instead right could you can just hop on Twitter and complain about out alone you were then given birth hour and chef from Noblesville Indiana isn't exactly worried about feeling alone it's limiting if you can imagine well being in the home with five boys birth our and his family are used to being at home together he and his wife home school their boys but the corona virus has them feeling more isolated than usual they're skipping things like church services and extracurricular activities and starting to feel a bit cooped up the six year old and a nine year old have some sort of mutual destruction pact they're going to kill each other I think so they're coping by organizing family game and movie nights at home we watch episodes of Star Trek together luckily we do enjoy being a family together so that's that's nice but it can be challenging Emily Newell says that she and her husband are adjusting to working at home in Portland Maine she's used to spending her days with students and colleagues at the university of southern Maine where she teaches sport management but now classes are being moved online bills kind of isolating and a little bit scary I don't think we were overly nervous about it additionally but our staff is kind of starting to shut down its cannot weird realization of like oh crap we might be you know just ask them to cast our apartment for awhile with her parents hundreds of miles away in Ohio Newell says the prospect of not being able to travel to be with them feels isolating to me and my mom will probably be annoyed I'll probably call my mom a lot you said she's also planning to cope by reading and staying in touch with her students online staying virtually connected is an important strategy for fighting social isolation says Austin bassin he's president and CEO of fountain house a New York City based charity that works to reduce the effects of isolation on people with mental illness call that friend you haven't talked to in years call your mother is as they would say and he says talk about how it feels to be going through this bass and also suggest re framing the way we think about this period of isolation by distancing yourself you're contributing to it a suicidal act of collective action that is not only protecting yourself but protecting others and so if we can see some community in that I hope that's a motivating an aspirational way of looking at something that is inherently difficult so in a way he says we can all be isolated together Sarah McCammon NPR

"You by the machines corporation construct renovate restore need to clear up something those of you who turned in a couple weeks ago we were at noble cause which is a thrift shop right there in in Noblesville well there is also something known as noble and a and what does happen is we sort of got nailed here we've we've tried our best to help people in what has happened is there are two noble organize these people ended it's called the noble auxiliary so I want to tell you a little about the bit about the noble auxiliary they are designed to help people with disabilities adults with disabilities of sorts so they can help them with tech and art and discovery and everything but what's happening is you've been taking all of your donations that are meant for noble cause which is the thrift shop over to them and the other one so we told him we give me a little bit of love Friday March thirteenth twenty twenty seven o'clock to eleven o'clock PM at the expo hall in west pavilion at the Indiana state fairgrounds you're invited to the twenty fourth annual big red liquors noble evening in the garden presented by the National Bank of Indianapolis in it's that idea is the idea is to raise money for these folks at at noble and remember there's there's a lot of different types of noble this is the noble auxiliary into our friends at noble cause you guys go you are the real deal those donations go over there eighty five cents out of every dollar goes to feed the poor and Mazen we just love but anyway sorry for the screw up but noble adventures thanks for noble auxiliary thanks for looking out and again if you have any donations that's great just make sure it's noble because noble call is authorized on the greenfield road they're the ones who take the donations and again resell them for I'm pretty good right our numbers three one seven two three nine ninety three ninety three thousand iron studio will take your calls and do the best remember that we are not horticulturist di I am certainly not the crime and although Allison is probably going to take the master gardener course at some point well it's time to do that all right so this is one percent personal I'm reaching out to my mama Donna Jean Clark Smith turned ninety years old yesterday my name is Ankit my brother Tom and I showed up my sister sue was ill but Tommy not showed up we got a picture saw it since I talk about the famous Tommy I want you all to see a picture so well since you're gonna post it yep it's on our Facebook page garden Indiana and Twitter Indiana home garden yeah Tommy I reconciled from our our child to long ago Tommy was a corpsman in the navy and ended up with the marines during World War two during intern Vietnam and he's just quite a champ he's recently retired he's three years older than I am but anyway if you wanna see what famous Tommy looks like in my lovely mom Donna Happy Birthday mom you keep walking that forty to forty five miles a week that's on a real shoes odometer on her foot and instead they measure it you know there is she's at robin runs this still going strong going strong so Happy Birthday mom a couple things Alison reminded me that we were coming up on the lawn mowing season she says talk about okay this is the perfect time Allison to take your lawn more Infor service they're not busy everybody has not tried to start their lawn more everything's it's just a good time to take it get to your lawn mower shop and tell them you want to just you know sharpen the blade change the oil in the air filter if at all possible you get those things already you'll be in good shape how some big news from the farm this week we knew we knew that the septic tank girl that is so exciting I am so happy for you know you need to do that about every three to five years but you know I've been talking about the sump pumps which you know the level guard thing yes well modern septic tanks are two tanks it used to be that it was just one so you had the effluent coming in and then you just have liquid sort of bubbling out everything would fall to the bottom and start to die just from the bacteria and then the flu every time you flush to the little bit would dribble out into your septic field what a nice description what what what happens of course is that if you're only pushing four to five gallons out at that time only one of your fingers in your finger system which is where it leaches out only one is ever working so the plumbing scientists decided that a dosing tank was the best way to do it so what you do is you have your regular septic tank that digest all of the materials and it pushes all the fluid into what we call a dosing tank like a dose of medicine when he said does he take it in there you put a pop it's such that when it turns on it completely floods all of the fingers not just one but all five six or seven of them all the way to the top and then every finger is doing its job and just instead of you know the main one it's a great system you are lucky Pat's not here I don't know Michael so those of you who have septic tanks you might have the old style which is one tank you might have the new style anything in the last fifteen twenty years is probably gonna dosing tank remember that pop in there needs service too so don't hesitate the the folks I use for the dosing tank or sos sewer or septic sos is out of Hamilton County great guys the guy happens to be Brandon Smith is not any relationship but he just he understands that it's a combination of making sure the electricity is always there and protected which means water proof and that the pumps in good shape and then that switch mechanism but I got to tell him about this level got I did get a chance to win about level guard but that our number three one seven two three nine ninety three ninety three coming up in the next hour everybody has has a question about solar solar has been around since before Y. two K. if you can believe and the technology has come so far so we're gonna have Joel Waldman from Jefferson electric in at the ten o'clock hour ought to be a a good fun thing if you have questions if you've been considering it you reach out and certainly we'll do our best to get your question answered Joel is a third generation master electricians in Courcelles and I'm a third generation master plumber we usually make fun of the electricians but he's bigger than I gotta be careful that meet all how did I meet Joel one of his friends are one of his employees Eric no somebody on the seventh floor and they work in charity together Eric is a a minister but he also works part time at Jeff electric but they've been working on several different projects and Eric reach out to me says you ever think you wanna look at solar and I thought well yeah that sounds cool yeah then I talked to the seventh floor and they then they they said it is I talked to Scott and right he's in the legal department and Scott's an old friend of mine he said he's the real deal so I start talking there a Canary says once you Joe on he's the one knows everything for me let's go ahead and and talk to a date here on the septic Hey David how are you Hey is this dental this is Danny eighty eight I heard you say some of the bills will take my only question is well we don't have the water table so hard arcade gets full of rainwater and how would it dosent work if both both was completely full of rainwater if you're getting a rain water in it it's for it's for other reasons I would reach out to S. O. S. Brandon is this is not a commercial for its just that I know he knows his stuff if you're getting infiltration into your septic tank that's not good that has to be a wholly contained self contained not are medically sealed but certainly a sealed system right ninety percent of the the bad thing Danny is is that I don't know how old it is but it's there the concrete eight and it had the three baffles then it it's got to separate you know what I mean yes Sir by both the brunt five hundred the bank it's got the baffles and then they completely fell off in the thank well that's not my keyboard yeah Dave you've got to take what what Davis talking about when we bring the water into the tank from the house it hits a baffle and go straight down into the first separation of the tank and then as that DJ digest everything it moves the water over the second battle and then as the baffle it then we it goes through another baffle so we can keep toilet tissue and other contaminants from getting into our finger system what Davis said is the second baffles falling off which means he could have anything downstream into his leach field and into his finger system I'd read I'd reach out to S. O. S. I think that's what it is sewer or septic or septic or sewer back think you need to get that looked at Dave because eventually it's going to fail and when it fails you got a mess on your hands I appreciate it all right there you go thanks for calling you know septic tank tanks that when you take care of males and they're your best friend and when you don't take care of them they don't upset me nobody's happy inside the house it's the home and garden show we're talking septic tanks we're gonna be talking solar systems within in the ten o'clock hour but you might have.

"Are Noblesville at a noble cause I love that name formerly Saint Vincent DePaul it's a double entendre you're not really formal you're still we're still Saint Vincent upon formally R. sign out front said thrift store and here was a problem for us we had an example where a lady came in and saw and asked us some questions about the place and said she heard about us from a friend who had just left the she lives in Noblesville in the historic area and they've moved to Wellington or something and she heard when she went to see the new house at the new furniture that they had bought to fill a room was she said she bought this at the thrift store and they bought this at the thrift store and she's at work where's the thrift store and she said that's its name it's the thrift store that's it so once they we figured out we are we can't get enough volunteers we can't kick people to come because it's just the thrift store they don't know what we do right that we had to change a little bit I like it noble Constance D. D. isn't a terrible spill at absolute real quick we're talking with the Riccardi she is the well it is general manager tragedy on the manager of a hundred and seventy volunteers so Saint Vincent DePaul you guys are part of a worldwide organization and national organizations how biggest thing into the fall well I'm you know we are international but I'd I don't your numbers right I don't know what you're doing your job your porn part on radio T. as in just just saying so often in jail when they called and said that I had right now we're in a hundred forty seven countries and over three thousand locations and this is Laurie added more on the space station too and that's right and then for now especially over here Google in it for a minute so give me that information you know what it doesn't matter how many locations because every location is so important just like location is to Noblesville in the surrounding area it is so how does it go some of I. I love shopping at thrift stores my mom was an antique dealer and we drove through so many different things look at least get people walking through that big that's the same pair what size are those shoes yes the story although but the the this is so well laid out the clothes are clean they are they are clean we are we we pride ourselves that the things here we'd all by we don't we so how often is it is a restocked everyday so it's just you're the volunteers are constantly going through the donations sorting stuff out and then is there certain times it hits the floors are just random all day all day long others say here all day how we replenish also even after hours but it's refilled all day long so as things as shoes get pulled off new ones will be prepped and brought out and as left the clothing the same there's someone working a rack in the back to get to bring it out we'll bet house when people bring in contributions Maha Mackey my wife wanted me to get something out of the basement I brought it in do they go to the back of the building or which would be the south side of the building and then what is the process ring the bell somebody comes out how do you donate here ring the bell ring the bell somebody will come out and help bring that in all right can you give them a receipt do you do you could do all the whole we have that right at the door good deal got some little information about us out the back door to so if you're wondering what we do with things that we can't use or you know they they all have a purpose we keep that going out to pull it forward between nine and ten o'clock on a Saturday morning this place is pretty busy is it like this all day it is yes it is since Saturday's gonna pick up I don't know if everybody sleeps and comes in a little bit later but Saturday all picked up about eleven it'll get up at six AM yeah yes till at houses the how do you describe the location mmhm the people that are listening manager on greenfield I mean right off and I just came off a thirty seven oh mile west off of on greenfield often thirty seven two blocks east of tenth street or the equivalent Allison Vale road as it gets edited out plus it is turns into temperatures so it's just off the circle for circle yet turn right and we're two blocks in and then proceeds to the the the monies that come from mobile because go into programs well we have a three we also assist people with some utilities and we also give away some of those not just the money back some of the things that come in so usually by referral work from the trustee or another organization that we work with where they say this family just can't afford furniture so you can give them these items these are the things that they need that is really cool so it's really cool now as far as food I've noticed a lot of the grocery stores are not donating as much as they used to and I'm not sure whether they're just managing their stock a little bit better or what if you don't get enough donations than do you take the proceeds from the thrift shop to buy additional food or how do you do that eighty five percent of what goes to that cash register goes back into the pantry well yeah that's about where we own our building we on our trucks so we we have low overhead this used to be a nursing home when I was growing up yes it was yeah unless this is better nursery "Just north. it's a touch to the east of Indianapolis is a really great spot called Noblesville turning cats. on Facebook Tony Katz radio be sure to like the page and in Noblesville which is again it's it's terrific town square is like true original kinda town square one of on some great places to eat there is a great place to shop there at the top of one of the buildings over the weekend. there was some obscene language scrawled graffiti and a swastika. and of course when this happens you're going to get people who immediately go to all my goodness that anti semitism is on the rise anti semitism is on the rocks let's let's not kid ourselves. but I've always said and I will continue to make the difference there's a difference between anti semitism and more on his. if some I'm by the way I mean this is really high up as as one person said the only way they got up there is that they have this massive ladder right into H. somebody would have probably seen them or they might have known somebody who lives in the apartment above that was one of the theories I'm sure the police are investigating and doing the thing that they do. first ever everybody in in those roles some moron engages in graffiti on your walls don't think that we think it's about you don't think anybody in America would think that it's about you that some people might say those things but that is not the fact great city great place you should go visit go east go do go shop go walk around the whole thing. there is a rise a moron is. now there is a rise in anti semitism there's always been more on his arm people who are like Hey would be funny and then they act like morons I would put forth to you the people who did this don't actually know what it is they're doing that doesn't mean you should invest it doesn't mean you shouldn't final doesn't engine charged with a crime the crime is vandalism. it doesn't mean that you shouldn't be aware of it. I'm a Jewish man I'm aware of when a swastika goes up I'm also aware when someone's a moron and I am able to categorize the two things. I'm put forth to you. that the whoever did this doesn't even know what it is it means they just now we would be shocking. lost. I also say that they should know what it means so then I go yeah we don't want to do that. a rise in anti semitism is real but it's actually based on anti semitism. it's based on thinking that Jews past members of Congress it's based on thinking that Israel should exist it's based on a whole series of things based on sharing bigoted cartoons are printing them to begin with. it isn't based on one fool who somehow found their way to the top of the building to scroll obscenities just to write out obscenities and a swastika. we should know who this is we should charge him with the crime they should know not to do it again the city of Noblesville should not think that they have something to worry about. a place you go visit I'm turning cats. it's the nonstop flow of information information it's keeping a finger on the pulse of the city. it's being connected more closely than ever with instant news.

"We live on north side. That's a Noblesville and she has a boyfriend that she's been dating for fifteen months track of it. Very active, and there's a big part of her life. She looks forward to her days at GD every week. And as you mentioned, the GDP them, we're really excited that they thought that into play how to this g g g g fit program. What is it like for your for Alex in for you as as a mom, right? Well, first of all all the programs that are offered at GT's are free of charge to parents, and this is a down syndrome achievement center. So one thing that I really love about the playhouse. You'll you'll see people from all over the community. And you don't, you know, I guess for me I bonded with several months when Alison firstborn and that was a huge source of support for my husband. And I we got our best information from other parents. And so now when you come to the playhouse when you see other parents, and you realize, you know, you're not alone, and hopefully parents of adult can be an inspiration to some of the parents that have young kids that are bringing them to the or many many programs that fit pro brand-new, and it is basically designed to encourage healthy living exercise and making it so that it's it's fun. And it's something that the kids look forward to doing instead of a chore. I unfortunately, many adults with down syndrome do have appropriate. Entity to be overweight, they they're low tone. And so it's more difficult for them. They a lot of them leave sedentary lifestyles. And so this is just a great way to teach them to be trying to help your body. This was a need. He's playhouse knows that as well. And so they they figured out how to do this. I just thought it was so groundbreaking. I've said before that we got information about this rock steady boxing, and how it was changing the lives of those with Parkinson's and that was years ago. And we thought about how is this going to work? And I think this is just as groundbreaking for parents of those that are that you're bringing up children with down syndrome. But it sounds like your daughter's is twenty five years old. I it sounds like it's four Delta's. Well, right this just fit program, the yes, the program currently is it's wrapped around another adult program, which makes it really great for parents. Because even though we have adult children. They. They can't drive, and so, you know, getting down to titties can be difficult. So having on DVD's incorporate that GD fit program around other things where they're already out playhouse makes it really convenient for parents. I never thought that I would be in a position like this. But you know, I've learned a lot along the way and thanks to others have gone before me. You know, they've made it easier for our family. And so I think he just tried to pay it forward. All right. So doors are obviously open for g g fit and again, if you'd like more information, go to Jiji's playhouse dot org. Listen gillette. Thank you so much for your time today. I really appreciate it. Thank you for having me. Using an overpriced trash bag pricey pricey bag that breaks. Or a smelly bags Agee? These people had a python that got loose got loose. And no one could find it for days. It was like a thirteen foot is a giant by saying. Could have been around that giant python? You would watch is what it sounds like sounds like you said award-winning as so I I I actually believe that my colleague Ashley Giles, actually, I think she actually called it the song and dance weather one nine. That's that's what I would do because I'm that guy. This is just called. But I I did also really want to learn about it. And I'm pretty sure that's how they figure out the wind chill. It's the speed at which I believe water will freeze and again water will freeze at thirty two. But at the wind chill is zero. And the actual temperature is thirty two ages will freeze a lot faster, but it's never get to zero. It's never really that temperature is just the effect. And I guess it also be the effect on human skin. How fast the colds and all that? So yeah, you got to be very careful, no matter, whether it's real temperature or or or wind chill, you gotta be unbelievably careful because city. City.
