"By the time police got the call about the body's own Vin Tame Hill. It was already starting to get dark. The Hill is surrounded by thick forest and brush so for everyone safety. They decided to hold off until morning. Of course the press didn't take the same precautions when officers finally did arrive on the morning of August. Twenty first nineteen sixty six vin. Tame Hill was already swarming with reporters. The snapped a few photos before the bodies were carried away. Unfortunately all of the original sources are in Portuguese and more than fifty years later. It's hard to track them all down but some of them were summarized in English in the flying saucer review which despite the name was fairly credible journal in the sixties based on those articles. Here's what we know about. The police investigation. The only easy part of this case was identifying the victims thirty two year old men. Well Pereira de Cruz and thirty four year old. Miguel Josie Viana. Both men were electronics technicians from a town. Called compost does go to qazis which is about one hundred and seventy five miles northeast of Rio de Janeiro. Both of them were happily married. Well respected in the community and led pretty normal. Unassuming lives according to their families. Miguel and Manuel had left town. On the morning of Wednesday August Seventeenth nineteen sixty six three days before their bodies were found. They said they were heading to Sao Paulo to buy some electronics equipment. Along with a used car. They've been looking at. They took some money with them somewhere. Between two and three million Cruzeiros the conversion rate is a little hard to calculate. But that's somewhere worth like a few thousand. Us dollars today at about nine am. Miguel and Manuel headed out to the bus station accompanied by a friend named Elsia Gomez. Elsia wanted to go into the bus station and see them off but the other two men insisted that he just dropped them off outside. Elsia didn't understand what the big deal was but he didn't think too much of it. He watched Miguel Manuel Walk into the bus depot. And then he went back home. That was the last time he ever saw his two friends alive now. Even with the minimal evidence police had at this point. There were a few things about this story. That didn't add up. When the bodies were found the only had a combined one hundred sixty one thousand Cruzeiro on them. The rest of the two three million is unaccounted for still to this day. And of course they didn't go to Sao Paulo like they told everyone else. They went to a town called Niteroi which is a suburb of Rio de Janeiro. Which is a good couple hundred miles away. The investigators went back to Nita. Roy Hoping to find some answers there but once they piece together the rest of August seventeenth nineteen sixty six. All they had were more questions. Miguel and men wells bus would have arrived in need At around two or two thirty that afternoon their first stop was an electronic store. They've been to that store before so we can assume it carried some kind of equipment that wasn't sold in their own town but for some reason they left the store without buying anything and they didn't even talk to the sales clerk there now. Maybe the store was out of whatever they were looking for. But the taken a five hour bus ride to get there. Why on Earth wouldn't they at least check with the clerk? Before leaving either way after they lead the electronic store it starts to rain so they stop into a clothing store in nearby and buy a pair of matching raincoats again. This doesn't raise any red flags on its own. But what is weird? The clerk said that they left in such a rush. They didn't even bother to put on the coats before running out into the rain. The coach that they just bought now. You might assume that. The big point that they were rushing to was with the owner of that used car that they were looking to buy. But you'd be wrong. They didn't buy any car during the trip. So if they weren't buying electron ix and they weren't buying a car. Were they doing there? Oddly the next time they surface is at a bar in the same neighborhood as the clothing store and when they get to the bar. They're still very anxious about the time. Miguel goes to the counter and orders a bottle of mineral water according to the bartender. He's acting just very like nervous and impatient and while he's ordering he keeps glancing over at the clock after paying for the water. Miguel keeps the receipt and this might not seem like a big clue but Brazil has a recycling policy where you could return empty bottles for a deposit. So whatever or whoever they're waiting for. Miguel assumes a won't take too long and he'll have time to return the bottle before heading home that evening no one saw Miguel inman. Well leave the bar so we don't know if they met someone there or they left alone but at five. Pm They're seen at the foot of entame hill which is just outside town. They pull up in a jeep driven by someone with blonde hair. There were two other men in the car as well but the witness couldn't see them clearly. Whoever these three men were they were the last people to see Miguel and well alive. So by this point police had mapped out all of their movements from leaving home in the morning to arriving at the hill that night but none of it offered any clues about what actually happened next. We already mentioned a few of the strange details at the scene of the deaths but if we take a closer look it's even more baffling. Let's start off with what they didn't have the money that they brought with them. The most obvious possibility is that this was a robbery gone wrong but staging seem like this would have taken a lot of time and effort for not a ton of money and they also left some behind also. There were no injuries on either of the bodies. No CUTS NO BRUISES BURNS. No sign of violence at all. When the corner didn't autopsy there were no internal damages either and strangely. Despite sitting out in the open for three days on a hill that's swarming with wildlife. The bodies were totally untouched by animals. No one can really say what that means but it kind of seems like there was something unnatural about the deaths if even the vultures didn't WanNa touch them if this wasn't a murder the next possibility was suicide but this theory sort of falls apart too because Miguel still had the empty water bottle and the receipt. If he knew he was going to die. Why go through the trouble of saving the receipt beyond that police find three pages of handwritten notes? That definitely didn't suggest a suicide pact. The first page has a list of electronics parts numbers. Along with some Algebra work the equation uses Ohm's law which is E. equals. I are which is used to calculate the strength of an electrical current now. The two men were electronics technicians. After all so everyone assumes these are just notes for a work project now. The next page though is more of an enigma translated from Portuguese. It says quote Sunday one tablet after the meal. Monday one tablet in the morning on an empty stomach. Tuesday one tablet after the meal Wednesday one tablet before bedtime and quote. Obviously this is talking about some kind of prescription but as far as anyone knows neither Miguel or men. Well were sick now. The last dose that Wednesday before bedtime dose would have been taken right before they died but due to decomposition the corner couldn't get anything useful out of the toxicology report so we still don't know what was in those mysterious tablets and this was a little hard for me to understand because just a second ago. I know he said the bodies were kind of untouched by wildlife. I expected them to be in. Good condition. But whatever's going on at the time they just either didn't have the technology they didn't have the time and they weren't able to test for it so finally. The third page has another set of instructions. This one said quote sixteen thirty be at the determined location. Eighteen thirty swallow capsules after the effect protect metals week for MASK SIGNAL. End Quote now. Confusion isn't a translation issue. It doesn't make any sense in Portuguese either. It almost seems like the note was kind of scribbled down quickly in some kind of shorthand which probably means someone gave instructions verbally and someone else wrote them down putting it all together. We can at least gather that. Miguel men well. Were the victims of some kind of random attack. They came to the hill for a reason. And that brings us to our last piece of evidence. The lead masks themselves now. You're probably picturing a full mask. That covers your entire face. Almost like what welders wear but these were about the size and shape of sunglasses made out of solid lead. They were apparently homemade and cut. Roughly FROM SCRAP METAL. Lead blocks radiation. So it's often used as a coating for protective goggles and facials. But these masks were too small to offer any real protection and since they were solid metal it would be impossible to see or do anything while wearing them so at first police had no idea what to make of these masks but after some digging it turned out that this wasn't an isolated incident according to flying saucer review. There was another case four years earlier where another electronics technician had been found dead on a hill with a lead mask in that previous case the police determined that the man went up to the hill and took some kind of drugs because he was convinced it would allow him to pick up radio and TV signals with his mind now. One delusional technician we can accept but three is a different story. There was something bigger going on here and no one knew how many lives would be taken before this is over. We'll keep digging the investigation right after this. Let's get back to the story..

Despite sitting out in the open for three days on a hill that's swarming with wildlife. The bodies were totally untouched by animals. No one can really say what that means but it kind of seems like there was something unnatural about the deaths if even the vultures didn't want to touch them. If this wasn't a murder the next possibility was suicide. But this theory sort of falls apart too because Miguel still had the empty water bottle and the receipt. If he knew he was going to die. Why go through the trouble of saving the receipt beyond that police find three pages of handwritten notes? That definitely didn't suggest a suicide pact. The first page has a list of electronics parts. Numbers with some Algebra work the equation uses Ohm's law which is E. Obviously this is talking about some kind of prescription. But as far as anyone knows neither Miguel or amend well were sick now. The last dose that Wednesday before bedtime dose would have been taken right before they died but due to decomposition the corner couldn't get anything useful out of the toxicology report so we still don't know what was in those mysterious tablets and this was a little hard for me to understand because just a second ago. I know he said the bodies kind of untouched by wildlife. I expected them to be in. Good condition but whatever's going time they either didn't have the technology they didn't have the time and they weren't able to test for it so finally. The third page has another set of instructions. This one said quote sixteen thirty be at the determined location. Eighteen thirty swallow capsules after the effect to protect metals. Wait for mask signal end quote. Now the confusion isn't a translation issue. It doesn't make any sense in Portuguese either. It almost seems like the no was kind of scribbled down quickly in some kind of shorthand which probably means someone gave the instructions verbally and someone else wrote them down putting an altogether. We can at least gather that. Miguel Amon well. Were the victims of some kind of random attack. They came to the hill for a reason. And that brings us to our last piece of evidence. The lead masks themselves now. You're probably picturing full mass at like covers your entire face almost like what welders wear but these were about the size and shape of sunglasses made out of solid lead. They were apparently homemade and cut. Roughly FROM SCRAP METAL. Lead blocks radiation. So it's often used as a coating for protective goggles and face shields but these masks were too small to offer any real protection and since they were solid metal it would be impossible to see or do anything while wearing them so at first police had no idea what to make of these masks but after some digging it turned out that this wasn't an isolated incident according to flying saucer review. There was something bigger going on here and no one knew how many lives would be taken before. "By the time police got the call about the bodies on Vin Tame Hill. It was already starting to get dark. The Hill is surrounded by thick forest and brush so for everyone's safety. They decided to hold off until morning. Of course the press didn't take the same precautions when officers finally did arrive on the morning of August. Twenty first nineteen sixty six vin. Tame Hill was already swarming with reporters. They even snapped a few photos before the bodies were carried away unfortunately all the original sources are in Portuguese and more than fifty years later. It's hard to track them all down but some of them were summarized in English in the flying saucer review which despite the name was a fairly credible journal in the sixties based on those articles. Here's what we know about. The police investigation. The only easy part of this case was identifying the victims thirty two year. Old Manuel Pereira de Cruz and thirty. Four year old. Miguel Josie Viana. Both men were electronics technicians from a town called compost dose goto causes which is about one hundred and seventy five miles northeast of Rio de Janeiro. Between two and three million quiz Eros the conversion rate is a little hard to calculate. But that's somewhere worth like a few thousand dollars today at about nine. Am Miguel and Manuel headed out to the bus station accompanied by a friend named Alessio Gomez elsia wanted to go into the bus station and see them off but the other two men insisted that he just dropped them off outside. Elsia didn't understand what the big deal was but he didn't think too much of it he watched Miguel and Manuel Walk into the bus depot. They went to a town called NITA. Roy which is a suburb of Rio de Janeiro. Which is a good couple hundred miles away. The investigators went back to Nita. Roy Hoping to find some answers there but once they piece together the rest of August seventeenth nineteen sixty six. All they had were more questions. Miguel and men wells bus would have arrived in Nita Roy at around two or two thirty that afternoon there I wasn't electronic store. The clerk said that they left in such a rush that they didn't even bother to put on the coats before running out into the rain. The coach that they just bought now. You might assume that the big appointment that they were rushing to was with the owner used car that they were looking to buy. But you'd be wrong. Bay didn't buy any car during the trip so if they weren't buying electronics and they weren't buying a car. What were they doing there? Oddly the next time they surface is at a bar in the same neighborhood as the clothing store and when they get to the bar. There's still like very anxious about the time. Miguel goes to the counter and orders a bottle of mineral water according to the bartender. He's acting very like nervous. An impatient and while he's ordering he keeps glancing over at the clock after paying for the water. Whoever these three men were they were the last people to see. Miguel and Manuel Alive. So by this point police had mapped out all of their movements from leaving home in the morning to arriving at the hill that night but none of it offered any clues about what actually happened next. We already mentioned a few strange details at the scene of the deaths but if we take a closer look it's even more baffling. Let's start off with what they didn't have the money that they brought with them. Elsia wanted to go into the bus station and see them off but the other two men insisted that he just dropped them off outside. Elsia didn't understand what the big deal was but he didn't think too much of it. He watched Miguel Inman. Well walk into the bus depot. And then he went back home. That was the last time he ever saw his two friends alive now. Even with the minimal evidence police had at this point. There were a few things about this story. That didn't add up. When the bodies were found the only had a combined one hundred sixty one thousand Cruzeiro on them. The rest of the two to three million is unaccounted for still to this day. And of course they didn't go to Sao Paulo like they told everyone else. They went to a town called Niteroi which is a suburb of Rio de Janeiro. Which is a good couple hundred miles away. The investors went back to Nita. Roy Hoping to find some answers there but once they piece together the rest of August seventeenth nineteen sixty six. All they had were more questions. Miguel and men wells bus would have arrived in Nita Roy at around two or two thirty that afternoon their first stop was an electronic store. They've been to that store before so we can assume it carried some kind of equipment that wasn't sold in their own town but for some reason they left the store without buying anything and they didn't even talk to the sales clerk. There now may be. The store was out of whatever they were looking for. But the taken a five hour bus ride to get there. Why on Earth would they at least check with the clerk? Before leaving either way after they lead the electronic store it starts to rain so they stop into a clothing store and nearby and buy a pair of matching raincoats again. This doesn't raise any red flags on its own. But what is weird? The clerk said that they left in such a rush that they didn't even bother to put on the coats before running out into the rain. The coach that they just bought now. You might assume that the big appointment that they were rushing to was with the owner of that used car that they were looking to buy. But you'd be wrong. Bay didn't buy any car during the trip so if they weren't buying electronics and they weren't buying a car. What were they doing there? Oddly the next time they surface is at a bar in the same neighborhood as the clothing store and when they get to the Bar. They're still like very anxious about the time. Miguel assumes a won't take too long and he'll have time to return the bottle before heading home that evening no one saw Miguel and well leave the bar so we don't know if they met someone there or they left alone but at five PM. They're seen at the foot of ENTAME HILL. Which is just outside town. They pull up in a jeep driven by someone with blonde hair. There were two other men in the car as well but the witness couldn't see them clearly. Whoever these three men were they were the last people to see. Miguel and Manuel Alive. So by this point police had mapped out all of their movements from leaving home in the morning to arriving at the hill that night but none of it offered any clues about what actually happened next. We already mentioned a few details at the scene of the deaths but if we take a closer look it's even more baffling. Let's start off with what they didn't have the money that they brought with them. The most obvious possibility is that this was a robbery gone wrong but staging seem like this would have taken a lot of time and effort for not a ton of money and they also have some behind also. There were no injuries on either of the bodies. No CUTS NO BRUISES. No Burns no sign of violence at all. When the corner didn't autopsy. There were no internal damages either and strangely. If he knew was going to die why go to the trouble of saving the receipt beyond that police find three pages of handwritten notes. The last dose that Wednesday before bedtime dose would have been taken right before they died but due to decomposition the corner couldn't get anything useful out of the talks ecology report so we still don't know what was in those mysterious tablets and this was a little hard for me to understand because just a second ago. I know he said the bodies were kind of untouched by wildlife. I expected them to be in good condition but whatever is going on at the time they just either didn't have the technology didn't have the time and they weren't able to test for it so finally. The third page has another set of instructions. This one said quote sixteen thirty be at the determined location. Eighteen thirty swallow capsules after the effect protect metals week for mask signal end quote. Now the confusion isn't a translation issue. It doesn't make any sense in Portuguese either. It almost seems like the note was kind of scribbled down quickly in some kind of shorthand which probably means someone gave instructions verbally and someone else wrote them down putting an altogether. We can at least gather that. Miguel Amon well. Weren't the victims of some kind of random attack. They came to the hill for a reason. And that brings us to our last piece of evidence. The lead mask themselves now. You're probably picturing a full mass at like covers your entire face almost like what welders wear but these were about the size and shape of sunglasses made out of solid lead. They were apparently homemade and cut. Roughly FROM SCRAP METAL. Lead blocks radiation. So it's often used as a coating protective goggles and facials but these masks were too small to offer any real protection and since they were solid metal it would be impossible to see or do anything while wearing them. So what I police had no idea what to make of these masks but after some digging it turned out that this wasn't an isolated incident according to flying saucer review there was another case four years earlier where another electronics technician had been found dead on a hill with a lead mask in that previous case the police determined that the man went up to the hill and took some kind of drugs because he was convinced it would allow him to pick up radio and TV signals with his mind now. One delusional technician we can accept but three is a different story. There was something bigger going on here and no one knew how many lives would be taken before. But whatever's going on at the time they either didn't have the technology they didn't have the time and they weren't able to test for it so finally. The third page has another set of instructions. We can at least gathered that Miguel Aiman. Well weren't the victims of some kind of random attack. They came to the hill for a reason. And that brings us to our last piece of evidence. So it's often used as a coating protective goggles and facials but these masks were too small to offer any real protection and since they were solid metal. It'd be impossible to see or do anything while wearing them so at first police had no idea what to make of these masks but after some digging it turned out that this wasn't an isolated incident according to flying saucer review. There was another case four years earlier. Solving the Lead Masks of Vintem Hill

The even snapped a few photos before the bodies were carried away unfortunately all the original sources are in Portuguese and more than fifty years later. It's hard to track them all down but some of them were summarized in English in the flying saucer review which despite the name was fairly credible journal in the sixties based on those articles. Here's what we know about. The police investigation. The only easy part of this case was identifying the victims thirty two year. Old Manuel Pereira de Cruz and thirty. Four year old. Miguel Giuseppe Viana. Both men were electronics technicians from the town called compost dose. Goto causes which is about one hundred and seventy five miles northeast of Rio de Janeiro. Both of them were happily married. Well respected in the community and led pretty normal. Unassuming lives according to their families. Miguel Manuel had left town. Us dollars today at about nine. Am Gal and Manuel headed out to the bus station accompanied by a friend named L. CEO Gomez. Elsia wanted to go into the bus station. See them off but the other two men insisted that he just dropped them off outside. Elsia didn't understand what the big deal was but he didn't think too much of it. He watched Miguel Amon. They went to a town called neater. Roy which is a suburb of Rio de Janeiro. Which is a good couple hundred miles away. The investigators went back to need a Roy hoping to find some answers there but once they piece together the rest of August seventeenth nineteen sixty six. All they had were more questions. Miguel men wells. Bus would have arrived in Nita Roy at around two or two thirty that afternoon their first stop was an electronic store. They've been to that store before so we can assume it carried some kind of equipment that wasn't sold in their own town but for some reason bay left the store without buying anything and they didn't even talk to the sales clerk there now. Maybe the store was out of whatever they were looking for. But the taken a five hour bus ride to get there. Why on earth wind they at least check with the clerk before leaving either way after they lead the electronic store it starts to rain so they stop into a clothing store in nearby and buy a pair of matching raincoats again. They didn't buy any car during the trip so if they weren't buying electronics and they weren't buying a car. What were they doing there? Oddly the next time they surface is at a bar in the same neighborhood as the clothing store and when they get to the bar. They're still very anxious about the time. Miguel goes to the counter and orders a bottle of mineral water according to the bartender. He's acting just very nervous and impatient and while he's ordering he keeps glancing over at the clock after paying for the water. Miguel keeps the receipt and this might not seem like a big clue but Brazil has a recycling policy where you could return empty bottles for a deposit. So whatever or whoever they're waiting for. Miguel assumes it won't take too long and he'll have time to return the bottle before heading home that evening. No one saw ag- elleman well leave the bar so we don't know if they met someone there or they left alone but at five pm they're seen at the foot of entame hill which is just outside town. They pull up in a jeep driven by someone with blonde hair. There were two other men in the car is well. The witness couldn't see them clearly. Whoever these three men were they were the last people to see Miguel and well alive. So by this point police had mapped out all of their movements from leaving home in the morning to arriving at the hill that night but none of it offered any clues about what actually happened next. We already mentioned a few strange details at the scene of the deaths but if we take a closer look it's even more baffling. Let's start off with what they didn't have the money that they brought with them. The most obvious possibility is that this was a robbery gone wrong but staging a scene like this would have taken a lot of time and effort for not a ton of money and they also left some behind also. There were no injuries on either of the bodies. No CUTS NO BRUISES. No Burns no sign of violence at all. When the coroner didn't autopsy there were no internal damages either and strangely. Despite sitting out in the open for three days on a hill that's swarming with wildlife. The bodies were totally untouched by animals. No one can really say what that means but it kind seems like there was something unnatural about the deaths if even the vultures didn't WanNa touch them if this wasn't a murder the next possibility was suicide but this theory sort of falls apart too because Miguel still had the empty water bottle and the receipt. I know he said the bodies were kind of untouched by wildlife. I expected them to be in. Good condition but whatever's going at the time they just either didn't have the technology didn't have the time and they weren't able to test for it so finally. The third page has another set of instructions. This one said quote sixteen thirty be at the determined location. Eighteen thirty swallow capsules after the effect protect metals. Wait for mask signal end quote. Now the confusion isn't a translation issue. It doesn't make any sense in Portuguese either. It almost seems like the note was kind of scribbled down quickly in some kind of shorthand which probably means someone gave instructions verbally and someone else wrote them down putting it all together. We can at least gather that. Miguel men well. Weren't the victims of some kind of random attack. They came to the hill for a reason. And that brings us to our last piece of evidence. The lead masks themselves now. You're probably picturing a full mass at like cover entire face almost like what welders wear but these were about the size and shape of sunglasses made out of solid lead. One delusional technician we can accept but three is a different story. There was something bigger going on here and no one knew how many lives would be taken before this was

"You'll may not realize it as you idle along between your jobs, and your families and your insignificant hobbies, but we are all immortals spirits trapped in a Uelmen show. We go about our lives sometimes several lives until we finally reach in lighten. That's what sets us free to ascend to a high up plane from there. We can look down at our world and influence it for better off. I was so tell me, ladies and gentlemen, what would you do to achieve true spiritual freedom? Both Miguel and Manuel were seen attending spiritualist sessions in their home city of composts all throughout the summer of nineteen sixty six we should note here that this isn't as unusual as it may seem spiritualism was a powerful force in Brazil and remained. So to this day, even as of the year two thousand one point three percent of Brazilians were practising spiritualists. But what does that mean? Exactly Miguel men well-studied spiritism, which is an offshoot of spiritualism that finds its roots in nineteenth century, France. Under the pen name, Alan Kardak, French author IPE elite revive theorized that all of us are spirits trapped inside of earthly bodies that limit our abilities only through several reincarnations do our intellects and moralities evolve enough for us to gain enlightenment and break free from our bodies. Then we can take our place among the spirits who exert both positive. Live and negative influences on the world, you might think a philosophy based on spirits and reincarnation would be an odd thing for two electron ick repairman to follow. But think again, apparently, many members of compost tech community were also avid followers of spiritism, including their friend L CO Gomez. This group of followers didn't seem to feel much of a pole between their dueling interests of technology and mysticism instead they referred to themselves as scientific spiritualists. Sit sounds like a fascinating way to view the world. But the double life that Manuel and Miguel lead. Does make us wonder about their mission on being tame hill. Is it possible that what drew them to new to ROY on that fateful? August day wasn't their interest in scientific equipment. The fact that Manuel and Miguel were interested in mysticism threw a wrench in the case. Suddenly it meant that police would have to delve into spiritism to try to understand the men's motives. Suddenly there mysterious behavior had a new context, maybe their plan seemed irrational because they were all in service of an unusual philosophy. When police searched Miguel's home laboratory, they found the remains of the lead pipe that the two men had used to pound in a homemade lead masks. But that's not all they found. Hey, check this out. I found this book right near the lead. Scripts. What is it a manual a lot weirder than that? I can barely make sense of it. But it's about ghosts or spirits. I guess and check this out. Look what it says Avello. Intense luminosity. I wonder if we just found out the reason they wore those strange masks, Miguel's lab, contained literature, about spiritual beings, which said these spirits were so bright. They were practically blinding so Miguel in men will read a book on blindingly, bright spiritual beings, then they built lead masks to protect their eyes which begs the question, did they go to Wien tame hill because they thought they were going to encounter these spirits. Well, that could explain the formal business suits that. They wore if they thought they'd be making contact with, hyper, evolved, spiritual beings. They probably wanted to look their best while we're not seriously suggesting that higher beings were at play the sudden introduction of a supernatural element in the case meant that the Nita ROY police department was forced to consider very different kinds of evidence. Then in late August of nineteen sixty six a man named Mr. desouza came to the police with a shocking story. Officer. I'm asking for discretion here. I want to assure you that my wife is a perfectly sensible insane woman. And she's very well respected in our neighborhood one. I'm about to tell you could endanger that Mr. D'Souza, I'll be as discreet as I can be Griselda was driving back from a religious meeting with our children on the evening of August seventeenth. That's when those men died right as near as we can tell. Yes, what happened with your wife? She saw something. God it sounds so silly. She saw something in the sky, right? Above being tame hill. She thinks it was a UFO. Okay. Can you ask your wife to come in here? Please..

"But it's also part of an emerging pattern of strange behavior. They told their friend elsia Gomez that he couldn't come along on the trip and that he'd understand when they got back when they ran in Miguel's niece at the bus station and composts they told her that their trip was important work. Now, maybe McGill in men will were just unusually precious about their work as electron ick repairman, or maybe they were alluding to the fact that they were off to buy illegal equipment, which gave this trip a special importance. But all this secrecy could have pointed to something far stranger, and it may have had something to do with the fact that Miguel and men will weren't just electron. Ick. Repairmen police only learned this after investigating what they thought was fine. Finally, a plausible murder suspect on August. Twenty seventh nineteen sixty six Brazilian newspaper. Jornal do Brasil reported that men. Wells widow Nellie Pereira that crews had given the polices solid lead to follow. Officer. You have to understand. I thought men wa was just having a fight with his friend that happens. Sometimes, you know, but it was a big fight and looking back on it. Maybe it was worse than I thought MRs de Cruz who was her husband fighting with. It was elsia elsia Gomez. L seal Gomez was an associate of Manuel and Miguel. And if you'll recall, he's the one who is told he couldn't come with them end to need a ROY on August seventeenth, the Nita ROY police questioned L C O and arrested him soon afterwards, he had apparently given inconsistent testimony that we don't know what those inconsistencies were the police is triumph was short lived. However when they were forced to let L C o go free. His alibi seemed rock-solid on August seventeenth the day that Miguel and Manuel presumably died elsia was over a hundred miles away in their hometown of compost. Does go to Qazis. Of course, if the capsules they ingested were poisoned L C O could have been the one to give me Gillan Manuel poison pills in their hometown before they left for Niteroi despite this possibility which doesn't seem like it was explored too deeply the police decided that even though L seal had a tense relation. Ship with men will in Miguel. He couldn't have killed them. Still the Nita ROY police encounter with elsia did provide them with new insight into the dead man's lives. Officers can I go I think it's safe to say I couldn't have killed men well or Miguel from two hundred kilometers away. If you didn't hurt them, maybe you can help us. We're still trying to find some meaning in their strange behavior. Well, maybe my friends were trying to find some meaning here to what does that mean? They were repairman doesn't sound like a profession that leaves much room for philosophy. They were more than that officer. I am too. What do you mean? Mr gomez. I guess you'd call us scientific spiritualists and looking back on the way they were behaving. I'd say men well and Miguel were on the verge of a breakthrough beneath the mask of their everyday occupation men. Well in Miguel were deeply devout spiritualists Miguel was especially passionate about this philosophy. And he was apparently the one who brought men well into the fold. Why are we going to this again? And we'll just trust me. It's just a meeting, and it's a really great group of people spiritualists though. I mean, I have nothing against them. But we're tech guys. We're practically scientists may go isn't this stuff? Kind of the opposite of what we're supposed to believe in maybe science, and technology are just a primitive way of understanding the higher powers that are guiding this. Woo gonna go. "Now back to the story. The Brazilian police certainly made some errors in their investigation into the deaths of Manuel de Cruz and Miguel Viana who were found dead on a hill in August of nineteen sixty six with no visible injuries. And in a Ray of suspicious clues surrounding them. They got to the bodies for days after they died and the backup at the coroner's office meant that they were never able to properly determine a cause of death beyond the vague notion of cardiac arrest, but it's also fair to say that the clues that they had weren't very helpful. They couldn't figure out where the majority of the money went and the instructions the men seem to be following. We're hard to decipher they tried to focus on the practical elements of the case. But their list of leads was short. The exact time line is unclear but it seems police identified the bodies as Miguel and Manuel a couple of days after they found them on August twenty first through interviews with McGowan men wells, family and friends in the days and weeks after the. Discovered. The bodies local police and journalists began to form a theory about how they died. The theory was this men well and Miguel did go to need a ROY to buy electron equipment. But what they were trying to buy was illegal, and possibly imported from outside Brazil, this doesn't mean that they had an affair. Yes. Intentions due to the unstable Brazilian currency. It was probably just difficult to purchase foreign equipment legally men. Well and Miguel went to Nita ROY to meet with smugglers who would sell them the equipment. They dressed up in formal suits because this was important business for them. The serial numbers that were found in their notebooks represented the equipment that they were purchasing and the men in the Jeep who were seen with Miguel in Manuel where the smugglers after the sale took place McGowan Manuel went up the hill to test the equipment. They're theory. Claim the equipment was radioactive or dangerous which would explain why they wanted to test it in an isolated environment. This could. Would be where both the capsules in the lead masks come into play. Especially if using the equipment required protection the capsules they swallowed could have been anti radiation pills, like potassium iodide a compound that protects against the harmful after fix of uranium exposure. Similarly, the lead mass could have been used as an extra layer of protection from radiation. Something went wrong with the test and may gale and men will died from radiation poisoning or the capsules they took were actually poisoned, maybe the smugglers gave them the pills and told them they would protect them after the men died the smugglers return to collect their equipment. According to this popular theory. The whole thing was just an illegal deal, gone terribly wrong. But there are a lot of holes here while it's true that the coroner was never able to test. Mcgowan man wells bodies for radiation the area on the hill where they were found contained no traces of radio activity. There was also no. Evidence that these electron ick repairman had any interest in radioactive materials or indications that anyone had tampered with the bodies and no suspicious smugglers were ever identified. This theory feels like a bit of a reach without substantial evidence, and certainly doesn't solve the puzzle like traits of the crime scene. It also doesn't fully explain the use of the lead masks, which were and continue to be these signature clue to this unsolved mystery in the days following the discovery of the bodies police looked into the origins of these mysterious masks in hopes that they would discover a link between their presence and the death of these men they discovered that a neighbor had seen men well and Miguel using a hammer to melda lead pipe into scraps for these masks and this neighbor had a very odd conversation with the two men about why they were making them. Hey man, well Miguel. What are you guys making? We can hear that climbing from across the street. We're working. Can you come back later is that are those glasses? Yeah. They are. Why are you making them you won't be able to see anything we have to why we're gonna use them to stop the end of the world. The fact that men will in McGill told the neighbor that they were going to use them to save the world added another odd wrinkle to the story it's possible that there statement was a strange joke designed to ward off a nosey neighbor..

"That would explain how rush they were in the store when they bought their raincoat and in the bar where they bought their water. Maybe they didn't want to disappoint whoever they were meeting. Our next bit of evidence is the money rather? What was left of it men, well and Miguel left compost does Coit to causes with around two point three million cruzeiros. We don't know how the police determined that. This was the amount that they had with them. But it's possible that one of the victims wives, our friends knew how much they took. But when police went through their belongings on the hill. Most of that lard some was gone Miguel had a plastic bag in his pocket containing one hundred and fifty seven thousand cruzeiros while men wells pockets contained around five thousand cruzeiros, we know they went to Nita ROY to buy gear for work in possibly a used car. But apparently, they only purchased rain coach towels and a bottle of water the receipt from the water purchase at bar dos. Royalva was still in their possession. If men whale in Miguel bought anything else, it wasn't on them. So we've got two point one million cruzeiros that are totally unaccounted for is it possible. They use that money when they encountered the men in the Jeep a lot of money to spend at once unless they were buying pricey electronic equipment or expensive drugs. Unfortunately, we have no idea where they spent it or what it was spent on. Then there's the matter of the mysterious notebook in the odd instructions. It contained the police investigated it further. But this only raised more questions. Anything in that? No book. I still don't understand those instructions in just capsules after effect protect metals and wait for masks signal. It's crazy talk. Well, it's more with that came from there's writing on a few other pages to this one has a bunch of numbers on it. That's odd. I thought so too until they did some research and realized they were serial numbers for different electric parts. Well, that was probably related to their work. They were electron IX repairman, right? Exactly. They were in town to buy equipment. So maybe it's just their shopping list. Anything else? Yeah. A third page with more instructions. It says Sunday take a tablet after a meal, Monday morning ticket tablet on an empty stomach Tuesday ticket tablet after a meal Wednesday ticket tablet before bit wonder if that has anything to do with the capsules they were supposed to take on the hill. Both sets of instructions are mysterious and it feels like they're linked. We're the week long regimen of tablets that they were supposed to take related to the capsules of they plan to ingest on the hill. Possibly the last day mentioned in the regimen was Wednesday in men well and Miguel died on Wednesday August seventeenth, but those instructions say to take a tablet before bed if they died in the early evening, then that would have been hours before going to sleep for the night true. But perhaps there's a translation issue at play here if the intended meaning wasn't before bed, but rather before going to sleep that would mean, something different. Oh, that's right. We saw that men will in McGill had laid out palm leaves to rest upon. So maybe that indicated that they were planning to sleep then then again, translations of the notebook used the term tablet for the page describing the week long regimen..

"Now back to the story the police interviewed dozens of sources in their quest to reconstruct the events of August seventeenth nineteen sixty six when to electronic repairman men will Pereira the crews and MacGill's ios avion took a long bus trip into the city and mysteriously died on a hillside that same day after finding out what had happened before their trip, the police focused on Manuel and Miguel's activities. Once they got off the bus and Nita, ROY. Nita? Roy everyone offer Nita ROY. When the bus dropped men will in Miguel off. It was two thirty PM their first stop was an electron store called flu oh scope where the two men were regular customers. And though, we don't know how the police found this out men will and Miguel. Didn't purchase anything at the store, which isn't necessarily suspicious. Maybe they were in a browsing mood. Maybe, but it seems strange that they spend hours on a bus just to do some window shopping. You could see arise that perhaps they were saving their money for a used car. But it was at this point where they're day-trip veered wildly off course there next known destination wasn't another electron store or a used car lot. It was a store where they purchased to raincoats again, not so strange after all it was apparently starting to rain outside. The only red flag was the stores employees ease observation that they had raced out of the store into the rain without even putting the coats on sometime. Mm between two thirty and four thirty pm. They hurried to their next destination. Anita ROY bar called bar. That's religious a receipt from August. Seventeenth was found with the bodies, which led the police there. It was another place that didn't match Miguel in men wells planned temporary for the day from all accounts. This wasn't a fun detoured. Check out the big city. Happy hour specials. The bartender at Bard, thus relevance later told the police that both men were visibly hurried and anxious. Excuse me. Could we get some service here? We're in a rush. Okay, sir. What will it be a quick to kill his shop before you have to get back home to the MRs Miguel? Hurry, no just about mineral water. No. Please. Coming right up. Actually, hang on a sec. What's the problem do other receipt? What if you keep the receipt, you can bring the bottle back and get a partial refund. It's a glass bottle. So that. Yeah. Sure. Sure. Sure. Yes receives fine. Let's go to go. According to the bartender Miguel ordered the bottle of mineral water while constantly checking his watch. He was visibly ANSI. Maybe they were just stressed out over not finding the gear that they wanted. But it's important to note the time that they were seen in the bar. It was four thirty five pm five minutes after their mysterious notebook instructed them to be at some predetermined location. Perhaps the bar was the predetermined location. But it doesn't seem likely given how anxious men well in Miguel were whatever their secret plan was they were running behind schedule. They had less than two hours until they were supposed to ingest some kind of capsule at six thirty pm as the notebook instructed, but the bar trip may have been unnecessary detour after all if you're going to a remote location to take some capsules you'd probably need to wash them down with some water. The next part of Miguel. In men wells day was harder to reconstruct. We know that after the bar detour at four thirty five pm a witness saw them, very close to Wien tame hill around sundown that would have been between five thirty and six pm on August. "Confounding questions. When the police found the two dead men on August twenty first nineteen sixty six they quickly identified them as thirty two year old men will Pereira to cruise and thirty four year old and Miguel Josie Viana they learned that Manuel in McGill had traveled one hundred and forty miles to die on Wien tame hill all the way from their homes in compost does go to countries a city to the northeast of Niteroi in Niteroi. Other than the fact that they both were married and had young families. They were good friends, and like all good friends probably had their fair share of secrets that they kept from each other. That's why nobody in men well and Miguel life could fully explain why the two men left their city for a mission to need a ROY on August. I'll be back before you know, it. On the morning of Wednesday, August seventeenth nineteen sixty six Manuela Miguel went to the compost bus station for a day trip. According to reports their friend elsia Gomez, either drove or came with them to the station. There are conflicting reports on whether elsia was a repairman like men, well and McGill or a civilian airline pilot either way he shared common interest with Manuel and Beguel. But on August seventeenth L CEO was rebuffed when he tried to join the men on their trip. You know, I could use some new gear to I'm going to see if there is still tickets for this bus Elsie. Oh, you should stay here. It's kinda just a trip for Miguel, and I are always off plotting of crazy scheme come on. I can handle whatever it is. You're planning. It's nothing personal is just look you'll understand when we get back elsia. We'll see you soon. I promise men will and Miguel left composts around nine in the morning, but not before a chance encounter with Miguel's niece at the station. Uncle miguel. Where are you going just a little day trip with men? Well, you remember him, right? Sure. Hey, that's a lot of money. You've got in that bag told you we should've put it somewhere else. Why do you need all that? We're going down to Nita ROY to get some supplies. But there are a lot of great deals on used cars down there too. I figured we could maybe score a Volkswagen the king of cars. Okay. But you know, a used car would be elect cheaper hearing compost, right? Oh, you ask a lot of questions. Look, we're going down there for other reasons too. It's important work. You'll see everything will change once. We're back. I'll go Miguel. You're such a weirdo. Anyway, have a nice trip. We don't know exactly. How unusual this trip was for Manuel and Miguel? After all, it makes sense that to tech savvy repairmen would want to head down to a bigger city to get the best deals on a quick moment. And if they were really planning to open a business together buying a used car together would make sense to but the two men had between two and three million Brazilian cruzeiros in currency on them..

"Six thirty PM in just capsules after effect protect metals, wait for masks signal. What in the world? That's it. That's all it says. Well, there's another page here with list of it's just mysterious numbers, which makes even less sense for thirty PM be at the agreed location. I'm guessing that means the hill six thirty PM and just capsules we'll have to do a toxicology report on them. Once we get them down the hill. Maybe they were poisoned. But what about after fact protect metals wait for masks signal? I have no clue not yet. The Nita ROY police had a truly baffling puzzle that they needed to solve in each major piece was offered than the previous one to rotting bodies informal wear and raincoats with no visible injuries. Strange handcrafted lead masks that hid the men's eyes and to small notebook that contained ominous instructions there was no easy solution to this crime. If even was a crime after all the men were dead, but not injured in any visible way. As if the case weren't complex enough, the police also encountered clerical an organizational difficulties that impeded their progress. Due to the rocky terrain, the neater ROY police weren't able to make it up the hill to see the bodies until August twenty first the day after teenager, Georgie Dacosta Alevis found them once the bodies were brought down you would think an autopsy would happen immediately. After all the men's notebook seemed to indicate. That they had ingested some kind of capsule, but the coroner's office was overbooked at the time which delayed the autopsy, this delay was crucially damaging blow to the case. Remember the bodies had been on the hill for at least two days by the time the corner finally performed an autopsy the bodies had decomposed to such a degree that toxicology reports would have been inconclusive because of this no tests were performed which is a shame. There wasn't much external evidence to go on and the men had no visible signs of injury or trauma. Instead their death was officially ruled to be from cardiac arrest due to unknown causes which is technically true their hearts weren't beating. And they certainly died mysteriously. But that doesn't answer the question of how they died. So now the police had to find out who these men were even if discovering the bodies identities would only bring up more.
