"Had Offering of time Superman, seats more. you had you had so many majorities, MAS- out these. Great. Great Games that Eve. that. If they hadn't been on the intended sixty four I don't think gaming would be where it is now. I just don't I don't think. So are you finished? All right so This isn't even the best console in his generation, right? It's just not the playstation was the best console that generation you said innovated he. Stuck in the past with its cartridge games that nobody wanted a program for. So Nintendo Misao out on final fantasy seven. It had don't be versions of fighting games where we had incredible Tekken three with great fighting games. Marcie four is innovative classic, right? I grew it paved the way for analog controller gaming and how to do a proper three D platformer. I can't deny that we still had great platformer man we had crash bandicoot jumps credible CRESPI into three looks amazing in get the get the hell out of here folks. Chris bit. Are you really comparing crash band? Are you are you putting crash bandicoot sixty eight? In Mario Sixty four on the same tier. Because Morrow six four is not as good as crash bandicoot three. Oh. Yeah. I knew we were going to do this. This wholeness was too good to be true. Right we agreed on the three sixty but then then you brought up the Nintendo Sixty, four, the Stephen Hunk of plastic. Now let me let me say good things about it had four controller ports. Awesome had the best wrestling games of all time. It can log stick that broke pretty much immediately but at least it was analog. There was two analog sticks on that that that sucker. I'll have you know the INNOC- wrecked the CPI wasn't it was an analog Halloween. In do you analog means? I can't give you the technical definition. I know what a stick is. That, you're thinking of the I think the game q my friend where the see stick was an actual stick. My. Yes. Okay I'll. poop because. He had four button. For digital buttons they were on or off. All right. I can't I can't help that I get my Nintendo consoles mixed up. Yeah. I to be I didn't like this console and that's really all comes down to it's personal taste I didn't like the Games on it. They didn't do anything for me. I'd play mad on the playstation and the here John Madden making call outs name naming the players on the field you know..
State of Play Reactions
"And hello everyone. My name is Jonathan Bush and this podcast beyond episode six, hundred and sixty one. In episode I am starting as I. Prepare a treat thing for my dog because he's angry that I'm recording this show I'm joined this week by Brian All. He can. He can. He can bark for me. He can you Andros joined by Max Scoville. You should get him xbox controller shape squeaky toys so that he can be a playstation show disrupting commodore dog form. That's a good idea. Now, what do you think of this contaminant and then he bites up? Obviously, he's mad that I haven't given them that tree yet. So I'm going to send it his way. Of, course, we are going to be talking all about the state of play which just wrapped up as a recording the show. Unfortunately, Lucy O'Brien can't be with us because her Internet has decided why? Why were today? That's unnecessary? So she's figuring that out. But of course, if you're wondering where regular scheduled episode is already happened, so you can go back and listen to that either on youtube or your favorite podcast services. It's all there But yeah, we want to do a second episode to break down this state of play and we have a full wrap up all of the video screen shots, all that stuff on Nigerian. You can check out a full breakdown of it. I don't think we'll be going. By game during this, but this, what state of play, of course did come with the expectations that there would not be any major first party announcements there would not be any. Hardware or business related announcement. So assumingly here about any I pretty acquisitions or anything like that, I is basically going to be focused on ps four PS VR and some third party indie updates when it comes to ps five. So with that. All in mind as the expectations were set, just sort of a general down feel Brian. I'll start with you. How did you feel about the show overall? It. I guess like a a C. I would seem like a six out of ten or I, guess, that would be a not not a is like a seven, right? So. Six ten I D. Letters. Yeah, maximum. He looks better idea. Let's do states if that's if that's the state of play was a state, it would be a solid. New Hampshire which I don't really have any strong feelings about I don't particularly dislike it, but it doesn't really get me excited. Nobody's like want to go to New Hampshire and I go hell. Let's go to new. Hampshire, right just it was fine like I feel like they were good in terms of getting expectations on the right level. But at the same time like you know they were like it's going to be forty plus minutes and I was like. Well, it's searcher was but. You know. What it was fine it. It's all right. What else are we GonNa do in Twenty Twenty Watch. The News. Yeah I mean I'm trying to think what other states that would be similar to in like most of it, I'm not really interested in visiting, but it had some. Could be. Cool. Yeah, it's yeah. I. Guess I, Guess, that's a good way of putting. It is I. I'll never never turn these things down, but it is. It does feel a little weird that it was. It was just sort of a kind of a few small things. Some slightly bigger things glued together. But nothing really like. Holy Crap that that was huge, but I think the key thing is these been. So sort of inconsistent. If like if they if these were first announced, was it like last year around e three? If somebody had done these on a on a regular cycle, like kind of like Nintendo directs, are I feel like we'd be more accustomed to like what to expect, but the fact that this is this is coming along especially when we're so hungry for PS five news, it's just a little bit like it's even even when they're completely preparing us. It's still a little hard not to be like a little bit underwhelmed. Just like well, I wanted more. Than intended Iraq's have sort of pivoted recently with the their announcement of those like new mini rex doing, and so I think even even the cadence of what these things used to be is now going away and so that's I don't I don't know I feel that like it's cool to get like kind of information drops like this, but on the flip side like I'd. Rather. I'd rather they charge of the laser beam in blasts it when it's when it's big and strong, right? Yeah. It's. It's a weird thing because you know a I think it was maybe a month or two ago. They did almost like a state of play on the playstation blog of ten big upcoming indie Games for PS Horn ps five and I wonder like why wasn't that a state of play presentation Max to your point like the identity of what this is? This year state of play has been the. The last of US and goes to Sushi my showcases and last year was the first one where they focused so much on ps VR that people got very upset that it wasn't focused enough on ps four. So they pivoted in the second one. Had you know F F seven remake finally coming back in a big monster hunter, a ice born DLC showcase. Mike. Big Games that people wanted to see and it has been this uneven inconsistent thing that I don't really know what the identity of it is. and. So going into this presentation, the expectations are set, but

"Developers spin so much time making these games now is that is they know? That gamers are going to play them for the added benefit of. The, hundred percent achievement the you know the the platinum trophy for for playstation players, and that only benefits the consumer and so to me the three sixty pioneered. So. Much evolution for gaming that it. It can only be either one or two, and for me, it's number two. I think I know what you're number one is so I'll go first. Because I think you're number one is probably the correct answer, right? I get that. if it is what I think it is I could be wrong but. for me the system that means the most me and again, this is a homer pick anyone that knows me probably knows what I'm going to say. It holds a very special place in my heart. It is the council that defined my childhood. It has a sound chip. that. Isn't as good as the one on the other the winner console of that generation. But it it sounds like home to me when I put a game in like here this Tinny nece to the to the audio it's not it's not the Sega Genesis. It's the Sega Genesis August. God. I love the second genesis. Man, I love it I have still I've bought the analog. Console that will allow me to play my games in HDMI stack cards, toe jam one of my favorite games of all. All the sonic games, streets, rage we had the definitive homeport mortal combat use jokers on the SNES had to deal with sweat. We got the real head ripping action it. The it was it was the consul generation that came up with pudding ratings on your game covers Sega pioneer that it also. Pioneered like CD's on Home Consoles I. Think I might have been the first one to do it were you had the SEGA CD? Great it didn't go that great because of the first ones to jump in the pond, but they really tried to innovate and they had a really great library and there's just something about that consul. that. means. So much to be like I remember we had the Turtles and time on super. Nintendo and then we got hyper stone heist on Sega Genesis in the second genesis. One is still my favorite even though. Kind of subjectively is the worst of the two games, but there's just something about it that I love and I get that I really can't even put it into words because it is home ary is a fan boy. It is the style Java in it's my favorite council that's ever mate. Yeah I. I mean, it's it's it's not my favorite council by far but it is it is nostalgic for me I had I had a genesis But the honest with you I'll they had may maybe eight or nine games simply because my time was spent on the SNES and You know I think I think it was a double dragon game that I had I can't remember the name of IT I. Think. I think it was double dragon though And I just remember playing this game on the on on the genesis in and see because. As, far as I can remember. This game was not on the SNES I I don't I. I don't know if it was double dragon or not I don't know anyway streets arrange probably. Could have been streets arranges ageism. Mason. But it wasn't available Ns and I would I would spend an enormous amount of time..
Pikmin 3 Deluxe and Our Nintendo Backlogs
"My Name Is Casey Fritos I'm your host, and this week I am joined by Brian Tahoe. Hi Everyone Seth macy. And Logan. Plants. And I just wanted to mention that Logan Plant has now been working as production assistant for the last year. So thank you so much for everything that you've done for us. We super appreciate it and we welcome you on the show this week. It's been an awesome year of NBC. Got This GIG last August starting my senior year of College McMahon. Twenty. It's GONNA be year. It's going to be the best year for me. At prediction was was very untrue, but I've loved working on NBC. Well, we did get to do a thing that we do everybody who's worked with gene for year, which is broken your house in spray painted the logo on your shirt. So yeah. Yeah, got. Bad. It's still drying right here. Comfortable. I Apologize. But Hey guys so much for joining me this week. Let's start off by talking about the big news, which actually Nintendo finally decided to reveal something before recorded. So I'm very grateful for that thanking Intendo, but we finally known antennas next scheduled release. It will be picked three deluxe out on Astra with. For Fifty, nine, ninety, nine. No. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. So You Brian, we're your pigment fan I look pick. Yeah, you. excited. Yeah, yes. Yes. Yes. I, am I'm all for. Every last great. We you exclusive game to no longer be that and to be brought to a platform where millions more people can enjoy it. And I've picked threes really fun. It's really good game. What I'm a little annoyed about with this is that. They. D listed the version. Basically, the exact moment that they announced this version and the version was on was selling for twenty dollars. So. That's kind of A. Weird situation. 'cause like. They're. They're basically telling their fans like if. If you have access to switch, this is where you'll have to play this game because you won't be able to get this anywhere else for cheaper. And also that the it's it's three times the price. Now, they're adding stuff to it, which obviously, we'll get into a, but yet my gut reaction was gay pigment three, and then also boo to the price of then also, you're totally going to pay that price, get pigment three under switch. So yeah, you're totally right. The an I also wanted to mention that we're bringing up the kind of skis tactic of taking it off the we shop. You. Guys noticed that all of the the vouchers that people bought I think it was, it was one hundred dollars for for two vouchers, one voucher per game, and they expired on July thirty first, which is right. Before they made this announcement I know at least one person in our podcast forums on facebook mentioned that they actually called Nintendo customer service and asked for the. Vouchers to get an extension and they granted him the extension by another year. It is now too late to do that. Ari. Or maybe not maybe if you have expired vouchers sitting around, you can call customer service and have them I'm so sorry, Nintendo customer service workers. You guys get a flux of collars because of this, but hey, it's worth a shot right especially if you haven't used them yet. But that was kind of embarrassed about this whole thing to like you mentioned, the vouchers are to one hundred bucks, which means if you buy, you know sixty bucks a sixty dollar game you're saving. Ten Bucks per game, which is a great deal. But you. They stopped selling them like a year ago. Yesterday, basically, two days ago, and with the expiration, you could put them towards stuff that was available for preorder. But because Pittman three wasn't available for preorder. You couldn't put it towards that Nintendo has been pretty quiet about. Announcing Twenty Twenty lineup arrested twenty twenty WANNA and so. You didn't really have anywhere to put that money and then. They retire those vouchers in three days. Later, there were like Pittman three and so A. Libertarian Carriers I. Wish I'd have panned out a little bit better. Yeah not crazy about I will. I would have been more forgiving if they announced it like the day, the vouchers expired because then at least people would be like I, have to spend it on this. Now, I mean, it still would have been a little bit questionable, but not nearly as various as this was i. don't Know Logan Seth? Did you guys by those doctors? No, I. Didn't I thought. It was I would just spend the extra ten bucks. I'm not really a digital player I mostly get physical stuff, but I thought another weird thing about it is like a third of the Games. You could get with voucher dollars. You weren't even saving anything on a bunch of the options. So that was another kind of weird part about the voucher system. I was just never onboard with the whole thing. You. No I didn't buy the batches. I. Actually Forgot

"You know to decide. Stroller type type game play, but mainly, it was the. The Game Library that the place name, the original playstation had that's what made it a great console as there was just so many games and You know. To me. That original playstation man I I remember playing just all sorts of gay I've from James Bond titles to some you know platformer original like. Centipede and. Just, odd just a vast array of games and. They were the the the the library was that was huge you go. You could go to the store and get you a different game. You know once a month and you'd never play all the games that the original playstation had offer and to this day I. Don't think there has been a console that has had the that sheer amount of titles available to it at the end of its console life as the original playstation had in the middle of its consulate. Okay. spoilers this does come up again, this council So I will save my comments for when it comes up on my list. Okay. So we agree on this woman, we won't be too much argument over that I do love the playstation now number four might be starting to get into some controversy here. Some people are going to feel it should be higher. It's probably one of their favourite conscious of all time `specially people in my generation, but it's the Super Nintendo Oh Are you. Know can we collaborate for a minute? It's my here for as well. You're number four. Perfect. This is perfect timing. So we both can chime in on why we now don't hear the number four is being bad I love. The Super Nintendo. And it deserves all the praise gets graphically. It blew my mind right? Because you you imagine all we had was an es right and. And how Colorful Super Mario World look to me was nuts the fact that it had star Fox, which is garbage now but polygons in three deflating flight game. Amazing. You can't deny Super Metro and you mentioned the library on the playstation man from the library on the Super Nintendo. Is just insane. It's Intel the the first party games the screenings PG's just. I don't I have about to see I don't know if it could be top three more consoles coming and but. In the sound chip rate was just had this operatic ability with it's music that other councils couldn't do. It's A. And the control right six buttons I mean a set the standard for. The Super Nintendo controller really set kind of what we know controllers to be ever since the Super Nintendo with actual game. Gamecube you've had that diagonal shape of a of your four face buttons right and you've had your shoulder buttons. And that's where it started your start select your four buttons at deep had and two shoulder buttons started here. And is really the beginning of really seeing Nintendo kind of show. That they kind of know where the market's going in anticipating it. Or set in the market I, mean, absolutely you know they. They. Really took a gigantic leap in trusting that. The N. S.. Gamers. The people that that were buying game after game after game on the N. E. S. we're going to be..

"Okay we'll know cable but then I was like wait we have a million cables maybe one of them does what this can do and Lo and behold it did so got you all hooked up. Yes fanatic I. Play a pick Mario and we we got we got like a Nintendo Controller. So now I can actually keep it plugged up without having to use. The Saab. I can already had that controller. Yeah in the room but now I mean, I had it I been had that controller. And I like that controller because there's actually a switch controller, but it's the shape like a Gamecube controller right? I got it off. The fact here deals out. and. So. I was out like playing. We play Mario Kart against each other. That's what I was plan with and I realized it so much easier to play with that thing. Yeah. I don't know I'll see you holding the things like this in your hand using them but there's also like a a thing that came with the switch where you're supposed to slide those in and make one control out of it. So I don't know if you don't use that either. Okay. I, need I think I know which dominates around there somewhere but I actually like the Switzerland better because it's bigger is actually more designed for the Gamecube became is actually designed more for your hand. That's why I got it because I have big hand right? Because the other one I I've used that before but it it don't feel right on I. Like it's almost like they kind of condensed it with your hands tied up underneath it. And so I actually love the Game Croup Control, and so shout out to you for figuring that out for me and getting and getting us to hooked up. So I can play Mario on all the TV's yeah that's the new put together by scratch you know. Over, man out there you know figure out how? To rig up again, the courts to make it work. Yeah. Fresh update on "nintendo" discussed on Ridiculous History
"Stuff. I am your host, Jonathan Strickland. I'm an executive producer at Howstuffworks Smell of all things Tech. And today we're going to talk about a pretty amazing subject. Vaporware. We're gonna do this for a couple of episodes, actually. This one. We're going to talk about hardware that is vaporware or that was vaporware or that never was. It gets complicated. And in our next episode, we're going to focus more on software. So What exactly is vaporware vaporware is a future product that someone has announced, but one that is not yet available for purchase and possibly never will be available. These are products that could still be in development. Or they could be in a design phase. And they might never see the light of day. So vaporware is kind of Ah, you can't call it a definitive classification. Not everything or remain vaporware. Some stuff may eventually emerge from vaporware to become an actual products. Some stuff may ultimately collapse in on itself. And you could say, Well, it was vaporware because it never came out. But vaporware itself is sort of a transition. Now you don't want your product to be classified as vaporware because that comes with it some pretty bad implied. Messaging things like We have the intent to bring this product to market, but we don't know how to yet, or Wouldn't this product be a great idea? Give us your money, So vaporware is not necessarily something you want to have associated with you or your products. And ah, this episode is sort of a preview of some stuff I'll be talking about in upcoming episodes for text them because we are fast approaching Episode 1000 1000 episodes of tech stuff, And in that episode, 1000 I'll be dedicating a discussion about critical thinking and skepticism in general, and how we can apply those skills toward technology in particular, and then I plan to do an episode about hoaxes and scams in technology stuff that was Pretty clearly. A falsehood from the beginning, and I need to be clear that vapor ware is not necessarily of falsehood. There are many cases where companies and people probably 100% believe they were going to bring this product to market and it just didn't happen. So I don't think that all Labour where I list in this episode represents an outright attempt to deceive people. Like I said, some of them May have been, but I'm willing to extend the benefit of the doubt and assume that most if not all, of the products that I will be talking about. We're actually supposed to come out at some point, and they just did not for various reasons. Legitimate reasons, as opposed to this was someone who was just trying, Tio. Scare up a whole bunch of money really quickly, and I've talked extensively about some examples of April wearing their own episodes, notably the Phantom Game console. I did a full episode dedicated to that, but here's a quick refresher. The Phantom was supposed to be a video game console that relied exclusively on digital delivery. You would download games to your console directly over the Internet, and the idea was ahead of its time, and some of the folks in charge of the company had a bit of a shady reputation. But I still think that a lot of people who were involved on the phantom team had every reason to believe that the thing they were working on would one day become a really product. I can't say for certain the folks at the top shared that belief. They may have been running a scam the whole time. But I know people who were attached to it really thought that they were working on something that was going to be an actual consumer product. At the end of the day, The Phantom never surfaced, which led to a lot of jokes about the Phantom never materializing. But since I've done a full episode about that product that never was. I'm going to look at other gadgets that were promoted at some point by a company but never actually became a thing you could actually buy. So sticking to the realm of video games. That is a ah well the treasure trove of examples of vaporware even if you're talking about the hardware side of things. Let's talk about the retro V GS A k A. The calico chameleon, a k A. The retro chameleon. This vaporware game console gives proof to the old adage. If it seems too good to be true, it probably is, although again that necessarily meant to be a way to fool people. First, this console was meant to be a cartridge based game system with no connective ity to the Internet. Kind of like a throwback to the old classic cartridge based game systems. Things like the Atari 2600 The Calico Vision in television, the Nintendo entertainment System, the Super Nintendo, the Nintendo 64 The Atari Jaguar, all of these cartridge based systems. And the value proposition for this device. The selling point was that games we're going to be complete experience is the moment they hit store shelves, they would have to be because the whole game would have to exist on the cartridge. There was no way to patch or update games. There's no way to get downloadable content because the council itself would not connect to the Internet. The developer for the consul argued that this would be a return to the old days of gaming where AH player could be assured that the title he or she picked up was a playable complete game. There's be no need for a day one download, so this was sort of a response to a trend and video games where you go out, you buy a brand new game. And whether you have a physical copy of it, or you buy it digitally. Once you installed on your machine, immediately, the machine searches for.
"And this is an article from tech crunch roablocks jumps to over one hundred and fifty million monthly users will pay out two hundred and fifty million to developers in twenty twenty. the article goes on to say the gaming platform roadblocks, which has seen a surge of us the coronavirus pandemic. now has more than one hundred and fifty million monthly active up from one hundred, fifteen, million, it announced in February. So from February. Two today just white like four months. a pretty substantial increase in users and. A an almost doubling of a more than doubling of what developers earned on the platform from last year last hundred, ten, this year two, hundred, fifty, million. So massive. Growth William. Roadblocks is not aimed at you or me. I don't think either of us have ever. I don't know I think I have played beat one mind for your South Hall Oh I. Don't know are you on rocks all the time? Twenty four seven I I if I know. To be. To be very fair roadblocks is a game that is I. I have some existential frustration about raw blocks right I feel like it's a game where creativity outweighs execution, which I think for some people is perfect and I think for other people like me at Arc's a little bit. But like you, you can't deny these numbers and I think for the longest time I slept on box right I'll be the first to say like I was I viewed them as the knockoff is the minecraft knockoff young honestly you know like I I think. That's fair of you to have done to. Well don't give me too much credit arguably for a while that was true. But what you really see here is two very unique things very unique things. One is you see rob blocks really emerging as a tier one gaming business like this. You just can't argue with these numbers, right? Like this is this is you might not like carrying the words. Fortnight. League of legends, raw blocks in the same sentence, but I'm going to start to feel comfortable putting those things in the same sentence because they're just games with massive user bases and massively entrenched gaming community such one thing you take away from this. From this, interestingly, enough if I'm fortnight I think this is my biggest competitor I. Truly do I truly do because if you look at what four-night maybe is trying to be a sort of more than game, a social hub something around in network right? We talked about this another like I would argue rob locks might be a little further down that line right there. Already have this whole creativity sharing shopping interface different that I think is is maybe closer to the sort of ideas and interactivity marketplace that that Ford would like to be a and I'd also say they have a younger user, which is a big advantage in these demo walk ends, Right With these networks youngest user platform wins so. I'm not saying it's lights out for at all guys are GonNa do very well but like it's weird to me because this new cement cemented something I felt for a while, which is fortnight's biggest competitor is rob locks and that's a weird sense but I really
Why Your Business Needs an Enemy
"Successful companies have defined enemies and you need an enemy in your business to go after Apple's enemy is the PC Tesla's enemy. Our fossil fuels are any cars are running on fossil fuels. Expedience enemy is your local travelagent overcharging you for your next trip. This is clearly defined in their marketing in their sales in their messaging, and there's a reason why they do it. They do it because it's important for you to define who you're not who you are. Trying to be the opposite of and this has a lot to do with human psychology as consumers. We know what we don't want. We don't necessarily know what we want, but we know what we don't want. So automatically, if you say, we are not this all the things that people get annoyed by you say, yeah, I don't like this and you automatically resonate with their brand who's defining that problem defining enemy some of the most successful marketing has been. Painting a business or brand against an enemy Sega did this in the nineties with Sega genesis pitting itself against Nintendo, and then later Sony playstation do the same thing with crash bandicoot against Nintendo clearly saying we're going after these people some beginners beginner entrepreneurs will say, well, that's kind of risky. What if that doesn't? Now there's no risk in that landing it's either going to resonate strongly people people are going to be like I don't know if I like that but it won't be vanilla it can't be ignored. The worst thing in business is being ignored and that's why it's very important for you define your stance we are not this we are here because we don't like how these people are doing things. The reason why this also works so well is because it gets in front of the idea that consumers are shopping around there comparing you against the competition and by getting in front of your saying, Hey, this is why were better we are not like this we're like this. This is also common in software web flow, which is a website building application for designers. Mainly, they have dedicated pages on how they compare against their competitors whether it's wordpress or squarespace they go head to head they don't shy away from it. They say these are our competitors. This is why we're better. This is why we created web flow. A lot of new businesses don't want to do this because they're afraid they think maybe Goliath is going to be down on David in the big company is going to get angry and retaliate or something like that. No, they're a big company. This is. Fair game they know it and they're dealing with our other competition as well. They understand the people that are the top of the mountain are going to be challenged and as the underdog people love an underdog story the love seeing and undertake on the big company and say we don't like the way they're doing their bloated there you know slow they're this they're that and we're here to give you something new if you WanNa. See a very good example of this. It's hey dot com I mentioned in an earlier episode this week behave dot com is a new email software it's basically a. To g? Mail. Is created by the guys behind base camp, and they clearly say that g mail is their enemy or traditional email is their enemy, and this is why they're better and they go after the competition to go after their enemy the our enemy does this this this? They don't respect your privacy they make email a chore. You waste so much time in your inbox again, your customers. Can really resonate with pain. They can really resonate with things. They hate, we all know we hate. So automatically when you are the person that's defining this, they feel like this person has a solution that's defining the enemy really does it really clearly states we're not this. We don't do this to you or all about this that contrast is really powerful marketing that contrast is really good for your brand. In also drives everything your business. So you know exactly who you are a lot of us we get lost when we do our marketing or email marketing or paid ads or even our copy on our website, and we're not really sure who we are. This clearly defines when you have an enemy, you know what you're not, and therefore the opposite who you are the other reason why this is so strong and it's so powerful. Is that when people? Shop around they come to your website they'll learn okay, this is your enemy. These are the people that you are going against. They might not even know that your competitor has some flaws and by visiting our website, they start reconsidering go into the competitor they're like, oh. Wow. I. Didn't know that people say that about the competitors I didn't know that this is what I'm in for. I didn't know that there are alternatives and because you're not trying to. Be a me too product and saying, Hey, we do this too. We do this to having a clear enemy and and really expressing that in the language of your website and your marketing really shows hey, there's a better way to do things you don't have to go with the status quo.
"nintendo" Discussed on Nintendo Voice Chat
"DO WE WANNA. Do wonder once or do we just WanNa put it together the six most iconic characters. The movie eventers right because isn't the original. Original. Vendors is like a weird. Nintendo Release Gaps and the Nintendo Gigaleak
"Hello and welcome to Nintendo voice chat I'd Jen's Nintendo podcast this week the week of July thirtieth. Today, we'll be talking about the huge release gasoline intendo bestselling games. The NINTENDO GIG leak ends a lot more I'm your host and this week I'm joined by Friday Tato. Guy Is here to join the show. Perfect. Let's he delivering today. something I might be able to show next week actually. Okay. Cool. Awesome. Okay to do that, build it. Now, I'm thinking of what it could be. A spoiler and I'm also joined today by pair. Snyder. And Zach Ryan. Hello I didn't see their. Her. How many chapters to get through your book while waiting for me together Brooke Myers retired who was supposedly. So yeah, that's true too I. Don't know how to read it. Did you get to the part where the skeleton is link yes. Very. Can, be time. Ns. Skeleton. Mr. Historic Also, have skeletons Brian I. Not. Christ. Disagree agree to disagree that's fine we can agree to disagree. But you can't agree on is that there's nothing coming out for the rest of the year from Nintendo at least as far as we now. Agree on that. Disagree. Last week we got a mini direct, but we still don't know anything that is coming from Nintendo specifically for the rest of this year pair went ahead and put together a really awesome lists. You might of seen it if you follow his twitter about. that. We haven't seen in wild that might be coming I. Say my I mean, this is super speculative. We really don't know but I thought it'd be interesting to go over this list of games to see how many years it's been since we've gotten a new installment of games. Probably. Doesn't say that we're the ones. It's been the longest since we've seen but maybe Now see that's what I was trying to get a I was trying to figure out. All right. Is there a certain cadence and I haven't done this in the past to look at whether there's a certain cadence when intendo renews these Games they there is right Nintendo in order to keep keep the franchises going they. They send life signs out but that doesn't necessarily mean a new installment in May, mean a character inclusion in smash or you know like putting NFC or track in Nintendo land stuff like that. So I don't I don't know how helpful it is to to actually predict what is going to come out and what will come out because like at first I was like. The Games that sell the most are the games that Nintendo puts on a schedule to be renewed at least every four years, and then you go while hold on his animal crossing sold forty million or something at the series, and we have to wait eight years eight years animals. New Leaf right right. But they did have a mobile released. So you know they kind of unhappy designer everyone loved happy. Home Design. Side. So happy home designer. Dave count. Twenty thirteen. They count in the way that they're both animal crossing products. That's definitely fall under the same umbrella. Look. Do. You want to talk about the ones that haven't been renewed in a long time or you know maybe our guest is like I. Think Everybody here has the list in front of them but like our guesses what we think will be revisited next. Yes. Yes, let let's really quickly recap in the last five years. We've gotten paper. Mario Animal. Crossing we've gotten to poke them on like we always get new pok months, Yoshi Lewis Mansion, fire emblem, and some of these like had big gaps. It had been kind of a year since we had another Louisi- mansion it had been. There all been short, really short gaps between these games like Mario and Zelda and Mario Party like they're not long gaps within the games that we haven't seen in the past ten years. They always have really long gaps. It seems. Yeah, I mean the nets Roy yeah. There's a lot of metro happening though you know there was there was a brief period there with with prime. Prime two prime three. Metro Fusion Metro Observer Mission. The Ball Three D. S. and. There's a lot of metro I feel like in a very short timeframe, and then now it's just been forever since we've seen a metro. A new one right we got Simmons returns overseas so. We're looking at kind of they are shortening the gap between with remakes and that's what happened with link's awakening obviously to right we got link's awakening to take the spot in between you know the mixed breath of the wild, the last one, and certainly that happened with metro to with Simas returns and the other game that shall not be named.
Black Girls In Gaming
"Thank you so much for joining us today Melissa. Thank you for having me. Excited to chat about this metoo. So can you just tell us a little bit about your background? Melissa. How did you find space for yourself a gaming? Well I playing games, my entire life I mean literally as soon as I could hold a controller in my hands, I've been playing with my cousins in my aunts baseman mostly fighting games you pass the controller around tournament style and eventually evolved to playing other games with my siblings growing up I have a brother and a sister, and I think the invention of the Nintendo sixty four is probably the greatest thing that ever happened to ask because it allowed all three of us to play at the same time. which most other consoles didn't do before that. My Daddy is to get used consuls, `electronic stories and we read games blockbuster and we'd all play together and my mom daddy's to watch us in times personally I on us but also partially because they were just curious and interested about games gaming, they both Geeks, they love comics, all kinds of things like that. But. I never actually imagined myself working in games I never really thought about the people who behind the Games who actually made them. So I actually intended to become a researcher public health researcher and work either in academia or at the federal government doing health research that was going to advance programs that would help support people of Color and people from Lgbtq community is substance abuse trickiest mental health. So that's actually how I started my career. I went got my PhD in a field called socio medical sciences, which is a combination of social psychology in. Public. Health. And I did that research for while it looked at drug use and mental health and people of Color HIV risk behavior, and I enjoyed answering these questions that helped people like I love being able to ask an answer my own questions that I thought would really have a difference, make a difference in the communities of color that were like heavily impacted by some of these issues. But one of the things that always nickel that me a little bit was the amount of time that it took for the research insights that I came up with to turn into action. If. You've ever interacted with you know that you know it can take a couple of years to go from the beginning of a research project into just a paper, much less any kind of program out of it and I wanted to see more immediate impact with my work. So I started looking for other careers could use my skills as a researcher have a more immediate impact but I could see coming out days or weeks rather than. In measured in years so I started looking into user experience research and technology but again, I didn't really focus on game specifically. I was just looking at tech in general. And I found this job at xbox Microsoft websites literally just by chance I didn't know anybody at Microsoft I didn't have any like network my way in or anything the closest connection I hadn't seen somebody speaking Pan on American Psychological Association conference WHO's on my team but I was like, wow, that sounds awesome. I WanNa to do that. They'll probably never hire me because I'm coming from a completely different field, but I was wrong and he did. And that's how I ended up here. It was kind of a winding path and a little bit of a nontraditional wide but really loving and enjoying experience of being able to make gains and see what I, call it my fingerprints on all of these different projects and games they've gotten the chance to work on. It is such a cool story and you know really speaks to why I often described psychology as like this field that really opens all these other doors for you because I feel like it just lends itself to doing that only one thing but lots of different things Yup i. think that's absolutely true and ideally volunteer college admission advising, and that's what I tell the students that I work with all the time I'm like you determine where You Go and you can learn a lots of different skills and other things that will help you get to field. There's lots of different ways that you can turn lots of different majors and they're such a need for people who understand social science and how people think and behave and interact with each other So I'm curious to hear a little bit more about how your mental health background now informs the work that you do in gaming. Absolutely. So there's kind of two sides to it. There's a research methods side, and then there's the actual content of mental hall. So briefly, a lot of the methods that I learned in graduate school that I used when I was doing research on mental health I now use the same ones when I'm in research on video games and people's here's all that research training that you get is going to be useful no matter where you go and it's even useful when I'm not doing direct research because. It influences the way that I think about things I take scientific lens to approach things
The Xbox Series X Games Showcase
"The Sega Genesis and the mega drive as well. But my friend, it's a consul of a different kind that was showcased earlier today. We're recording this and that was the xbox series. X was on full display. Ours the power, and see all the Nice Shiny Games that are coming out very soon in the not too distant future Oh. At least we hope so, but some I. Know are not going to be there at the time of launch, but. It is the experts series x showcase, some of the games that were announced and shown off games like a new Ford shock upon all shocks. A new four is coming out. What do you know? New Fable game which I know, a lot of people are excited about as dusk falls nice, interactive sort of really different, looking Cel, shaded cartoonish, but with a serious serious dramatic side to it that would really looks very interesting, stated decay three. It's been a very big hit for. So far so coming out with state of decay, three process far X which I believe is support. That is coming over as well with the XBOX series x upgrade and boost the medium ever wild rounded. All Great Games look very nice, but very interesting. And Hail infinite had a ton of minutes out there actually few minutes out there that showed off and showcase as far as new gameplay is concerned. I percents liked the best avowed, which has a very oblivion esque type, look and feel. I'm going to be honest with you. My friend everything nice and shiny everything looked nice, glossy looked a little bit better than what the playstation five had offers far as the Shiny Games. Maybe the textures were popping a little bit better for me on the XBOX series X. Games. The playstation against were shown off. But, the lack of games that were shown off period can asked me disappointed overall. Yeah, honestly, man. It's been such a weird year for video games, you know we allege allegedly self, cyberpunk and assassin's creed coming out here but like. Playstation had a similar. Similarly disappointed with xbox as I am with playstation, but still I got you know I'm a little excited about it and also like Nintendo did their little mini direct, and like their big game was WHAT TEN CITATION FORGET! The name of the game is called, but you know it's just that there's not really I I'm curious if a lot of these companies are keeping things close to their chest, because of the covid thing like they don't know win. These games are going to be able to come out, but. You Know I. Yeah, it was cool to see halo infinitives cool to see. The announcement of new fable and Forza, but yeah a lot of these games they showed were kind of like they made. You wonder is this. Is this the biggest thing that they have coming out because I? Don't know if you noticed but a lot of the Games. xbox shows they have very. It doesn't really look like they're utilizing the capabilities of the new constantly. Brag about it, side, it's they're very like cartoony in animated. And they're not really highlighting like it looks like something that could be played on the xbox one. Again it did. They were look nice looking games. They were very nice looking games. But. It was just the fact that there weren't enough. Plus like I said, it's just seemingly that there are a step behind what place has to offer. When playstation debuted over thirty games, and they were right around the single digits to double digits hovering around ten. That's not a good ratio. My friend, obviously some of these playstation games on playstation five. That'll becoming, too. It will be going on both systems, and that's understandable, but it just seemed to me that the playstation press conference was a little bit better prepared than what Xbox had offer, and I think this point in time. I can clearly say that playstation one this first round as far as I initial impressions are concerned. Will Not with me though because I think xbox did a better job in like actually saying hey is a console launch. Title is something. We have a sort of window. Whereas playstation didn't give us any windows, no early states you know. They showed a lot of games on the playstation, but they didn't show us anything that we're going to be. Laying soon, and I think that's where Microsoft did a better job than playstation. Did though not a lot better than what playstation did, but I don't know. I'm been reading a lot of headlines already with like there's Kotoka and polly on their all attacking xbox and. For like little things how they didn't address like backwards compatibility than they're saying. Oh, this is not going to have xbox so want support anymore. They didn't talk about that say they weren't GonNa? Habit is I don't know it's kind of petty. The way a lot of these journalists kind of jumped to conclusions, but you know I can get why people would like. Play the playstation. Playstation conference better also get why people like the xbox better I like the xbox one better, but that's just because I have more love for some of the Games that they showed of the experts conference as opposed the Sony Conference for example really loved the halo in it, but it's you know love. The master chief's grappling. Hook like that was that was read and. I was disappointed in show another trailer for Hell. Blade and there's some other things like I. Don't know why they would show war. Hammer like that's kind of a game that. There's not a lot of like xbox you know fandom for that one avowed looks cool, and is from what I understand part of the pillars of eternity franchise. But Yeah I don't know like state of decay. Three I'm not like super stoked on. Do WanNa talk about some of these games there. They showed again I. Want to go back to avowed because that was the one that was I'm like That looks like a a successor to oblivion. I could really get into and could be because I've said before sky rim. I played thirty hours and I got stuck in the bug, and I couldn't get back. I still have it on the shelf. Right here. I'm just not going. I've gone back to it. I may go back to it, but I'm just. It didn't Hook me like oblivion, did and this to be so much more war about what oblivion had offered the deep contents. If, I get an xbox series X. it's four that game. Rather, new four is a new force always comes out with new system and I. Mean they're the type of games that can actually rule just showcase a new system, and how good the graphics are, and the res- The colors the shading all the nine yards, those racing games do it the best of course a new force. It was coming out. A new fable was very interesting, so. Saying something that was rumored to be worked on and to be working on, so i WanNa hear your thoughts on the new fable on the way. Could it be something that we could really get back into a series, or is it just too many years gone by? No I think that it is something we everyone will get back into I think even new players will get into because the the great thing about fable is that it's much like the final fantasy games. It's all a stand alone game. You know that there's nothing that feeds into. The next game granted in like two and three. They reference like the heroes of and they're talking about your character, and obviously like what you did in that game. They talk about that a little bit, but it's not. They're like. These games are like hundreds of years apart from each other, so yeah, no I definitely think especially if it's just being called fable, yeah, you almost like God a war like it feels like it's going be a new beginning. What worries me about the fable trailer though is? Is that. There is no game play. You know if there's no game play. It leads me to believe it's going to be twenty. What twenty twenty two at the earliest before we get our hands on this game up and I it feels much like the the was the elder scrolls six trailer. They showed it three last year with like our. You know we're not like actively working on this kind of work on air is a little video of some sky and stuff and you can of. Make your own assumptions on it. That's like this one was just that cute animation of the fairy. Get need of Ferrari and that was. It was a funny trailer, but yeah I just I. I don't have any hope for seeing it soon. Toasters and you're listening to pop culture cosmos podcast.

We set out the intention when we first did that interview that we wanted to do an interview for the podcast. I'm glad it happened at the first interview that I'm doing in person in the world of. Semi Corentin and social distancing so Thank you for coming into the office. It's an honor. Thanks for having me so I wanNA start off with something which is I want to talk about dance? DANCE REVOLUTION So tell US anybody who doesn't know what it is. Tell us what it is, and why he became passionate about. Yeah, so dance dance. Revolution is a video game. It's an extra game. Extra Games are things that incorporate. And Gaming And or active video games it was followed by the success of like Nintendo. We for instance that became very popular dance dance. Revolution's interesting because it was popularized when I was a kid. Probably before that I think in the eighties and nineties, and it's essentially a game where you're controller is a pad that you stand on in the middle is you're standing place? You have an Arrow pointing forward pointing backwards to left and went to the right. There's arrows coming up from the bottom of the screen, and you have this answer key at the top. Top with those different directionally facing arrows, and it's to music, and it was a Japanese video game developed by Nami, and it was super popular in Arcades at home on the playstation, two and I grew up as a very overweight sedentary kid I had a pretty severe concussion in preschool, and so that created some concussion induced adhd so I was addicted to video games, and I think I would then have met the criteria for video game addiction now, which is like it wasn't every day, but it was like four hours a day of video gaming. into early call of duty before it was like an e sports thing so if I kept on it, I could probably been pretty well right now. Playing golf duty but I actually came across the home version of dance dance revolution when I was a kid in high school, actually no middle school early middle school and I lost a lot of weight playing that in my living room and it got me into. That got me to lose weight and it was motivating had all the elements we might talk about being important for an exercise program that is sensitive to brain health. And then it got me into the gym, and when I was in high school I joined a gym across from my high school, started weightlifting, watching personal trainers, we can go into that later, but essentially kick-started my personal health, an interest in fitness, and with that fitness that is cognitively enhanced meaning that I wasn't on an exercise bike, watching the news or staring into space I was cognitively engaged in that program since then dance dance revolution has been present. Among a lot of research context and neuro rehabilitation in older adults. It's not really that accessible anymore. You can't just get it off the shelf as much as you could. Previously, but it's really paved the way for a whole industry of active video gaming extra gaming. And it has spun off also clinical or serious extra gaming games that are used for health and clinical contexts such as some of the solutions. We use it the Pacific Brain Health Center. For the listeners who are like way, why are we starting the conversation video game? This all make sense so you know in reading about your story and getting a chance to get to know you over the last year, or so as we've been introduced by our mutual friend, Dr Shawn Patel who's a regenerative medicine doctor here in Los Angeles who's been on the podcasts before linked to that. I got a chance to see how your struggle as child especially with weight fitness and being sedentary. You found something you found something that created joy inside of you, and that's actually really related to a big part of what you teach right now we'll start off with the basics and we'll talk about what brain health coaches and some of the science of it, but you found something passionate that you that got you excited to move. Move something that you enjoyed and I. think that such an important thing as simple as it sounds. This video game was the thing that got started. That was ultimately the thing that starting your journey down this pathway of understanding the power of really what exercise can do for the brain, so let's start there. Let's start off with the basics you know. We've done so many episodes on the power of exercise, but as a refresher. Tell US why exercise is so important and what it does for the brain. Yeah, and there's been an explosion of research and media coverage about this I. Like to say that the mainstream popularity around exercise. The brain was really kick started by the book spark by Dr John Radi ever grateful for the work. He's done in popularizing that and twenty eighteen, the second most popular Ted Talk. In that year was Dr Wendy Suzuki talking about exercise in the brain and a lot of mainstream coverage, and you know in New, York Times and medium covering on boosting these posts on exercising, the brain has become very popular, and that's amazing, because it's also jumping on the kind of. The coattails of neural plasticity research showing that the brain can change. I think this audience has been very well presented that information right we to our brains were fixed. We were taught in high school. They have a certain amount of brain cells. Will Never. It's all downhill from there and it turns out. That's not true exactly. Neuro plasticity, so the brain's ability to functionally or structurally change. In response to experiences,
Train Your Brain To Find Opportunities During A Crisis
"Welcome to the Mater Hell, show this fitness nutrition expert, Shawn Stevenson and I'm so grateful to you today. We've got a very popular episode nine up today with him. Talking about how we can make the most of the situation that we find our society and right now you know with twenty twenty. It seems like twenty twenty came along and through our lives into a blender, but today we're GonNa talk about how we can make it into a delicious smoothie. You know what I mean and right now here in the state of California that just moved to. We haven't even been here full year yet. Society is re shut down there and just shut it down, opened it little bit open the crack and they shut it back down and right now for the upcoming semester children are you back to school we've got millions of people who are unemployed. Countless businesses are closed and this is a very trying time and I truly want everybody to understand that we have not seen the fallout. Fallout yet. The true fallout and I WANNA help to make sure that as many people as possible are in a position to overcome this, because our mental health is going to be stressed, our financial health physical health are relationships, but we can come out better Albert Einstein said that in the middle of every difficulty lies opportunity, and we have to shift our mindset to that, though because when things are going bad, we're faced with. especially uncertainty, we tend to go to the dark side. Are This is how? An CONSI- Walker you know went down the wrong path it was it was presented with You know those those trying times and trying opportunities you know so shout out to Darth vader shadow to space balls IRA out. They get credit. one of the greatest movie parodies of all time all right instead of Chewbacca, the wookey. They had BARF play by John. Candy. Alright a big shot to them. But again in the middle of every difficulty lies opportunity. We have to shift our mindset there and this has been a trying time for many. But I believe that we are strong I believe that we are capable and I believe that this is a time in history that is offering a great reset. It's offering an opportunity for humanity elevate. It makes me think of you know the original Nintendo the original Nintendo. The game console itself had two buttons. One was a power button in one was a reset button. First of all, why don't if I want to reset? Push the power button often. Turn it back on again. They're like no. You're going to need this reset button. The reset says. I'm playing the game. Maybe I made a mistake maybe i. was exposed to clinch. May. Be I WANNA do something different, but the reset says I'm going to keep playing. is going to tap this real. Quick I'm GONNA keep playing. And I think their life right now is a big reset button that is getting pushed whether we like it or not, and so we need to embrace it because it's happening, you know fighting against what is is what leads to allow to suffering. But the thing is we don't have to. We don't have to be content about it. We need to accept it realize what's happening. Realize what is and then put in place an intelligent. Plan of action which starts from the inside. Truly, all changes in inside game and really getting our mindset right and taking control of our own personal. Economy inside of our minds are personal health and wellness inside of our minds, so we can take that and spread that out to our family and our communities so very excited about this episode in as I mentioned. This is my first full summer here in California I grew up the Mid West S. T.. L.! Right in here in California is, it's amazing. The consistency in the weather, but something that I've noticed is very different from the Midwest Summers. Is that here in California you got the heat he might be to say is nine hundred ninety five outside. And If, there's a piece of shea going. Get into the shade in this cooler cycle is nice shadier. In Saint, Louis, it doesn't work that way. Would you say if it's ninety ninety five and Saint Louis? And you see a little piece of shade going. Get some of their shade, but. He's like what do you think you're going? We have this little extended arm, cold humidity, and it'll grab your by your collar. I make your holiday dollar humidity. It doesn't feel good. You know so. It's like I've got a true experience now of going into the shade and me like Oh. This is nice, nice shade. But Saint Louis doesn't work that way shot to all my friends and family in Saint Louis, everybody listening in Saint Louis I love you guys so much.

We're going to let them talk about it a little more. Maybe show you a little bit more. Everyone freaked out because that's what they do. And we got back to Earth There's this is nothing anyone should be mad. At nintendo over smaller games deserted love to these like. They have niche audiences. People love this stuff. Let them have their day in the sun. It just wasn't my jam.
Nintendo Direct Mini: What We Learned from the Partner Showcase
"Nintendo surprised everyone late last night by announcing that it would be airing a Nintendo direct mini partner showcase early this morning. The surprise announcement last night read on July twentieth. We'll debut the first Nintendo direct mini partner showcase a series focused on titles from our development and publishing partners will share a few updates on a small group of previously announced Hashtag. Nintendo switch games? The quick window between the announcement of the thing and airing the thing. And specifically pointing out that it would only cover previously announced games lowered my expectations to the floor, but there were at least a few surprises. Here's what they shared. I the direct started with a cove in nineteen disclaimer, saying basically that the future is uncertain, and everything could change including release dates, but then they made their first announcement with was planned DLC for a game whose full title is cadence of high rule crypt of the neck, dancer, featuring the legend of Zelda. The game released last year, but it will get three new DLC packs, which will release through October. The first pack adds new characters to the game. IMPA shadow link and Shadow Zelda and then characters named Aria and Frederick who I believe our original characters. I fancy myself a bit of his elda. Didn't immediately recognize those characters D second pack will add thirty nine new songs to the game. The third pack, which seems the most substantial Ed's a whole new story with new songs where you can play as skulk the tags from yours mask who can change masks to adopt new abilities? The character pack is available today in the other packs will be available later with all the pacts eventually coming out by October, and then the game will also receive a physical release with all the DLC bundled in one box on October twenty third. I played and beat cadence of Jairo Crypto the neck road answer featuring diligent of Zelda, but ultimately liked the soundtrack a lot more than I liked the actual game. I would go so far as to say I love the soundtrack, so I am excited to hear all the new songs. I don't know that I am really eager to actually play the game more, but I am also such as Zelda soccer that I probably will. The next two announcements weren't really announcements so much. The Game Rogue Company was shown which looks like a pretty. Pretty unspectacular third person online shooter with cyberpunk sort of theme. It didn't look bad by any means that it just didn't do much to stand out. Same goes for the next game. WWE TO CAPE battlegrounds. There was some new gameplay and we saw some wrestlers who were likely well compensated to show how excited they were about the game. They were playing, but there wasn't much. That had not already been shared the mini, direct and strong, though with two big atlas announcements. Shimagami ten say one, which was basically Shimagami Tennessee, three and Japan. Is Getting remastered for release on switch next year. I would love some help here in the form of a correction because I find the Shin Montgomery ten say series to be pretty confusing as it has all devolved into different spinoffs like persona, which itself has all kinds of spin offs. I was always under the impression that knocked turn was spinoff as well, but I guess it is part of the mainline series, and this rerelease will have the number three in the title, even though it did not have a three in its North American title when it originally released in two thousand four. In any case you know where it belongs in the Shin, Mugabe cannon really isn't. All that portent the important thing is that it is generally considered to be one of the best, if not the Best Shimagami, ten say game that isn't called Persona and it's actually the entry that I play the most. It has some MON elements to it with demon collecting, and when it originally released, it featured Dante from devil may cry. Suggest character which is a cool idea. I'm curious if the rerelease will keep that Dante Cameo. It also just has a great art style to it and I'm happy to see it getting a visual overhaul for the switch release. It is coming spring twenty twenty one after that a trailer was shown for Shimagami ten. Say Five a game we have known about since two thousand seventeen, but this was the first in some time. The trailer didn't reveal much. A teenager looks like they're given some kind of demonic choice and I don't know that they make the right one. The game is coming in twenty twenty one, but the trailer didn't anymore specifics than that. I had low expectations going into this thing and they were mostly met, but I was surprised by the nocturnal announcement. That was very cool. The Internet seems generally annoyed that Nintendo has not made any big summer announcements and that with paper Mario Animal Crossing having been released. It really doesn't seem like they have any big games for the rest of the year. which is true, but the weird thing is. Is I. Don't know that it really matters to Nintendo. Twenty twenty can kind of just be a low key year for them. Because animal crossing was just that big of a hit. It feels like they are in no rush to push anything out. Because everyone is just going to keep buying animal crossing anyway, they can barely keep up with demand for the switch consoles as it is. Now with all that being said though I think Nintendo kind sees the cancellation of e three as a blessing in terms of how it likes to announce Games paper Mario was announced and released within a few months. And I think that's how Nintendo would always prefer to do it. Keep the window between announcement and release small, but e three kind of forces them to make these big proclamation announcements all piled up on top of each other and share things many months before the popular November release window with E. Three out of the way though I think Nintendo is taking advantage and will make individual announcements for games. Just shortly before they actually release. There is that rumored Super Mario collection that will gather a bunch of three D Mario Games maybe nintendo will detail it in a dedicated direct, and then release it within a month, or so closer to November, and maybe in the unlikely scenario that breath of the wild to is coming this year. They will do the same thing. have a focused dedicated direct for the game, and then it will come out shortly after or maybe as I alluded to earlier, Nintendo will just look at animal crossings absurd sales. Do a round of socially distant high fives, and just push everything in originally had planned for twenty twenty into twenty twenty one.

Defeat us in this week. I'm joined by Perr Schneider. Same clayborn everybody and sets macy Hi. There guys. Thanks so much for joining me this week. I appreciate it. Of course we were waving but I. Don't think our audio listeners could hear that so I really heart. Wave! Goodbye I wanted to start off this week by talking about last week's announcement for way forwards new switch game Balki gone jeans, if destroyer, but that's not really the main news here because everyone was expecting something a little bit more exciting than for those of you who don't aren't super familiar with this. It is a third party franchises. Japanese Canadian anime show with monster, collecting and. You know think you. It does have the toys are the ones that have that plastic ball roll out POPs into? Pretty. It's a pretty cold gimmick. Mix, and honestly I don't think the game looks bad. It's just people got excited for something that may be was more than. A spin off of a kid series and we. That's what we got. so wanted to orders like famous castle castle. LOGOFF OFF Games right. And CASTLEBLANEY Games and exercise whole like. Hoover of like amazing, cool not quite licensed intendo games, but they are based games. We Love So. Definitely built up. Expedition Nintendo teased. It wasn't way forward teasing it Nintendo teased it. I gotTA, admit. I immediately went from Sante to metro to adjust the that Nintendo had tap them to do a two to d metro. It may be remake something like that. I jumped to that, too. That nintendo clarified on twitter, saying Hey, the third party announcement, and then what did you think then I want to castles? And then I was like. Oh, they're downplaying it, so it can't be anything great. I did not expect I'm a father, obviously of three kids and two boys who were into blog on many many years ago I had completely forgotten about it. I didn't know it was a thing anymore. An announcement to me would isn't that exciting because we've had so many bucker gun games in the past. It's not like the first time it gets turned into a video game, you know. Amazon sets new rules for sellers to prepare warehouses for holiday season
"Amazon is tightening warehouse storage rules to get ahead of the holiday shipping. Rush okay. The chemistry wants to avoid clogging up warehouse space with products that won't move quickly during the peak selling season. So. Even though they can't get sanitizing wipes in stock. and shipping delays. They're still going on. The retailers instituting new limits on how much inventory the independent sellers can store in an Amazon warehouse. According to a letter sellers, the Amazon sent today. The prevent large incoming shipments are products aren't big draws during. Christmas say Easter bunnies or fourth of July baby onesies the end up gobbling up a lot of storage space that way hopefully there'd be enough storage for every seller and Amazon will be able to provide more selection for the user. Amazon so this change is effective immediately. And shouldn't have an impact on customers being able to purchase top selling products like the Nintendo switch or Roku Power TV's. Sellers be able to store over three months of inventory for items with limits set on product by product basis. And they can replenish the inventories items. Go out the door. Amazon says sellers tend to store only about six weeks worth of products, but some folks are little bit more greedy. Then Ansari's limits come after Amazon logistic networks is thrown into chaos. And of course, essential products that no one ever bought before from Amazon like toilet, paper and hand sanitation size. Who blocked that stuff from Amazon before? If you bought if he is buying your. Toilet paper from Amazon before you. I didn't even think about buying toilet paper from Amazon before. So they say our commitment. Selling partners has never been more steadfast. And they went. Ensure sellers are using the fulfilment by Amazon's have space for their product. So they also got to prepare for prime day for their own stuff. A massive sale takes place that his men moved to the fall. So They said there's lots of storage space close to Amazon, so a lot of people like stop have third parties store. They're stop until the Amazon warehouses empty than they use a third party to bring the stuff over to Amazon, which is smart.
Pokemon Sword & Shield DLC Rumors
"I have some concerns about a game series I. Don't really have a lot of stake in but I. I know friends and I. Know People, and obviously it's popular so I'm just got to put an open letter out to the fans. Coconut fans. Are you okay. What's what's? Happening with pokomo Jackson. Well I. Mean Like A. Nintendo has. Gone on for years and years and years saying we'll never deal. See to poke him. We'll never deal. See to Pokemon deal. See pokemon never and. They did it Dave even. The I I believe sixty dollar POKEMON game first game to come up on console pokemon. Sword and shield recently got an expansion DLC. I don't know what it does I. Don't know if it added anything like Pokemon, wise, or if it was just more area to explore new trainers to fight not. Not, sure but I do know that deal. It is POK MON and it exists, but more than that. There's also. apparently more pokemon news coming up on the horizon but sense. That deal, see just dropped I. Don't think it's the new main story game that everybody thinks it's going to be, and then on top of that recently, a game kind of popped into sort of the advertisements on my switch that sort of. Said Hey. You should check the salaries and we came out and it say Puzzle Game Donors Pok Mon Cafe, and it's cute enough, but it's. Very much like something. I think that could have just. Let Really Song Apple Story and no. Told me about among cafe. Tell me about that. I don't really know how to describe it as a puzzle because it's all touched based, and it's not like sliding blocks. Dropping blobs or anything like? Tetris it's. A big conglomeration of just ev or peak shaped balls, and you drag your finger along. And connect them all in order to make a combo. It's not difficult. It's just so. It's lawyer Bobble late or is this what you've wanted I I yeah, or no, not really. Bust a move would have like you know aiming involved. This is really just you wiggle your finger. Finger across the screen. And then you let go, and then it all clears. It's very. It's very. I guess I would say and you know. Maybe that's fine for. You know the average Joe and I know that Pokemon has had a number of mobile releases now, but part of me is just wondering. Why was this a switch release? Why wasn't this on the phone? It's free. And I believe it is paid play. I deleted it I was just Kinda like well well at check out just to see what it was. I want to see what was going on in the world of poke him on the tertiary side, and it doesn't look that good and I remember. Not to pull the back in my day card. Semi Semi used to be with it and Jack I literally within Jack. Then, they chased what it was. I remember. On Games when the side POK MON Games were. Still capable of bringing you through all the gym, leaders and their trainers and the elite four. I'm talking about the end sixty four classics stadium. So, you know I know the spinoffs should be like and I've seen what's been going on to the community, and I've kind of vaguely gone people to explain to me like if gotten rid of national decks, so you can't really liked apparently transfer your POK mon from other Games, and if you have an emotional connection to the series. That does suck, and then just to add on top of it. It seems like two to three pieces of big pokemon content are kind of releasing this summer, or at least being announced, and it's really. Doesn't feel I. Don't know I like I said I'm kind of on the outskirts, but I do know people and I'm just worried like. How are you feeling? Is this okay? Are you worry? Do you think Pokemon is more of a? Like a mascot franchise. Or, than the game that it was I, mean it's Kinda, got an identity crisis from the beginning. You know card game anime. It's a brand. It's always been a brand, but I'm just worried that. Maybe it's kind again. Spread a little thin and I'm worried about my friends. And this is my open invitation. To say is I? See what's going on and I'm worried about you?

Don't @ Me: The Story Behind Twitch's $25 Million Sex Addiction Lawsuit
"So recently twitch was served a twenty five million dollar lawsuit by Guy Dealing with a severe sex addiction. Basically he believes that the hundreds of women streamers he follows, makes his sex addiction worse in. It's all twitches fault. Yeah this story is as crazy as it sounds. Let's get into it. Guys were streaming over at twitter DOT TV. Slash the score e sports, and we're adding more and more content every single week, so whether it's talkshow clouded or the rotating Friday streams follow the channel, so you know when we go live, and maybe you'll catch me winning another absurd game of chess. I one call now wait what what kind of stupid game! I. Don't honestly I don't know how the first happened. Okay? Now back to the lawsuit on June fifteenth. A guy named Eric Estherville filed twenty five million dollar lawsuit against twitch lawsuit states that s still suffers from a bunch of health issues, including OCD, depression and a severe sex addiction, and the lawsuit goes on to say that quote. Because of these maladies he heavily relies on the Internet for all of his entertainment, purposes and quote. Quote and basically he suing twitch, because he alleges that women twitch streamers make his sex addiction OCD worse quote twitches severely exacerbated his condition by displaying many sexually suggestive women, streamers through twitches, twisted programming, and neck owed making it nearly impossible for the plaintiff to use twitch without being exposed to such sexually suggestive content and quote to be clear, and this is in the lawsuit s to below follows exactly seven hundred eighty six women streamers. Zero male streamers not only does the lawsuit named twenty popular women's streamers including. And pokey, Main in-includes, pages, and pages of photos of these women as evidence as I was going through this lawsuit looking through these photos, it just felt really weird. It didn't sit right with me. One other issue that s says exacerbates his sex. Addiction is the fact that you can't choose to break down streams by gender quote. There's no way for the plaintiff to filter streams. He'd like to. To Watch based on gender, male or female. Therefore, the plaintiff has to choose a game and or category to watch with thumbnails, showing these scantily clad women alongside men of being the only streaming channels available to him and quote now in reality you could manually filter between men and women streamers, depending on who you follow, but remember according to the lawsuit Esta follows exactly seven, hundred, eighty six. Six women, streamers and zero men again, according to the lawsuit, the twenty five million dollars estabilish, asking for is to be split between him in other twitch prime turbo subscribers with the rest of the money leftover going to charities of the courts, choosing on top of the twenty five million s Davila was asking twitch permanently banned the twenty women named in the lawsuit. Okay, everything we just discussed. Discussed makes up the front half of the lawsuit. The entire back half of a lawsuit is dedicated to multiple academic papers, breaking down the history in research done on sex, addiction and listen. This is a real medical issue in this guy deserves all the help that he needs. But blaming women on twitch is probably not the answer now. If you're thinking where the hell did this come from. Actually ESTHERVILLE. Oh has history of filing these kind of over the top lawsuits. It all starts back in two thousand nine after s Davila was banned from PS end for being a troll while playing resistance fall of man online and if you didn't know. Is Basically playstations online ecosystem similar to xbox live? Here's a quote from an interview. He did with an gadget when he originally filed the lawsuit quote. I sued Sony because when they banned me, they banned my whole console, which is like a five hundred dollar waste there because I can't go online anymore, which was one of my ways of socializing so when I sued for fifty five thousand dollars that was something called punitive damages. When you're trying to penalize a company, and that's what I was trying to do. Penalize them for banning someone and quote from there. He sued Sony again. Plus Microsoft in ten does over flaws in different console designs that he purposely tried to find that in. In Two thousand ten I Japan gamespot could talk in a bunch of other gaming websites did their job in wrote about the lawsuits that Estella had filed against Sony Microsoft and Nintendo and he really didn't like that like as in he filed one giant lawsuit against thirteen different websites, because he was upset about the fact that they were writing about him. estabilish became so notorious that he was given all sorts of nicknames, the plaintiff the serial sewer. The list goes on. Also he wants sued blizzard, because apparently walking in world of warcraft took too long and in the lawsuit he tried to rope in actress, Wynona Ryder to explain the significance of alienation in Catcher in the Rye and quote. Rider, catcher in the Rye world of warcraft lack. Of and you probably won't be surprised to hear that. All eight lawsuits were either dropped by Estella himself or dismissed by the court outright now the complaint against twitch was filed on June fifteenth, while the summons was served to them on June nineteenth meaning legally now they have to respond in court, and while twitch hasn't made an official statement on this situation. It's only a matter of time before the core proceedings become public and hey, maybe this case will farther than anyone else was expected. What? He said all the haters. I'm not trying to zag just because everybody else is going in one direction, but I honestly don't understand. A lot of the complaints like people are really upset about the story, choices and things like that and it's just like. Why why are you upset that somebody told you a story that. You didn't agree with the choices like it's not your fucking story to tell. And I get that we have connections to characters, and when certain things happen. It makes you upset, but. Really. I fundamentally do not understand how people can be upset about somebody else's narrative created in Britain.

"So overall, if you take an average of these scores, we end up around approximately eight point five, which on the scale means that Nintendo. Switch had a great year. I wanted to kind of go round Robin here and talk to you guys about what you think you would give the game starting with you pair what what are give the Nintendo's year over the year. I mean, it's it's kind of it's it's I feel like it was too backloaded. I would give it an as an above. If if the love has been spread out a little bit more if we had gotten the book him on remake maybe in March or April, but I felt like the big media experiences where all backloaded and the re releases we got where all good, but they weren't my favorite like wind weak- as a re release. On the GameCube Bush. So on the way, you which is so awesome. And I wanted something of that caliber, which I'll give it a seven point nine seven point nine almost great, mostly good. I'm going to go a little lower. I as much as I love smash and as much as I love some of the re releases their kind of in my sweet spot. I totally agree with you that I think that it was too to backloaded I'm going to give it a seven point two. I think without the addition of smash and without games. Like, captain toads treasure tractor tracker. We would have been looking at like six point eight this year, really even with smash smash is so but with I'm saying with smash elevates that number quite a bit for me because it is it is so good at is the kind of thing that you expect from an first party Nintendo game. So I I yeah, I'm going to say seven point two bright. I'm actually right around where you are. I came in here thinking I would give it a nine out of ten for just the year of Nintendo third parties. Obviously, I haven't really calculated all the Indies I played on switch this year. 'cause there's just so many so realistically, I believe that they for me personally. Most of the heavy lifting this year, especially through the first six seven months for we're kind of it's a lot of like pretty goods. So I'm gonna go with a seven smash and poke amount at the end really brought things up, and there's a bunch of great games that that kinda sprinkled out throughout the year, you know, dead cells messenger and stuff like that. But I'm really excited to see what they do next year. We're starting with Super Mario brothers. Yep. We're gonna get animal crossing Yoshi Yoshi may be metro-dade knows like those scores are fair because if you compare it to like compared to the PlayStation right way in the same year. We got we got to go to war in essence, create odyssey and red dead, redemption. Inspite man Spiderman on top of that. Like, you've got some some amazing like nine to ten rating games and don't sleep on screen. It's really really. Yes. Compared to that this this is a little bit. It's all back loaded, and it's we don't have that same kind of variety like in your one where we had odyssey in breath of the one nine point five said it out. I'm sorry, Alex. We have let you say. Yes. So seven point five. Yeah. Echoing pretty much everything you guys said backloaded smashes really the the big one right Boca minds kind of like a stopgap for next year's this year. Just feels a little bit like sort of like weird inbetween. Yes, op gap because next year is loaded. We have like so many titles. We've talked about that a lot on the show about how Nintendo might have like a NB years, right? Where one year will be amazing and have all these like big releases. And then the next year might be a little less a little lighter. I I said this on scoop this week, actually if you're listening if you're not a game scoop fan and haven't heard it yet Damon did a really cool episode where he brought myself Ryan McCaffrey and Jonathan Dornbusch on the three podcast leads to talk about their respective years. We sort of unanimously voted that the PS four kind of one this year, which is I don't think anybody's going to argue against that. But. One of the things that I said there was that..

"And I remember I don't I never got to play that specific version. But I remember the Nintendo arcade game Popeye, and I was a big fan of that. And had that game on ES too. Nice. Oh, yeah. I played a lot of of arcade Popeye in the arcades back in the day. I was always terrible at it. But I loved it. Yeah. It's an underrated arcade. Classic in my opinion, really played it a lot back then the game and watch game a little bit different. It was, you know, the the one in the arcade had you sort of climbing. Ladders and going up and down trying to collect hearts and and then punch cans into into blue. But in in the game and watch game. It was set up where you were blue was on a dock, and you were Popeye, and you were kind of punching towards him. It was this whole thing was a fistfight, which was awesome. And you would have to kind of dodge backwards to avoid his punches and then lean in and punch him. And then there was swordfish that would come up underneath and try to stab you in the feet through the through the doc. It was a fun little game. And it was of course, the score. You know, you kind of get your score up. And and eventually, I think the highest score you could get was nine hundred ninety nine which was of course, you know. I did that many times. Wow. That's awesome. When you think about the holidays and intendo, what comes to your mind. So I think I'm a I'm a little little older that the most of your your listeners. So I I'm, you know, I don't have a memory of of running to the Christmas tree and getting getting something intendo. Although I did have did get the Donkey Kong cartridge for the Atari home computer back in the early eighties. I got that for Christmas. Nobody my favorite memory was actually Nintendo. Christmas holiday memory was much much later in in two thousand one when wind waker the legend of Zelda came out in Japan. I think in December like right before Christmas, and I had I had an import Nintendo GameCube the Panasonic q a unit that never came out over here. If you remember that one it could play DVD's as well. And so I could not wait for the US release and I- imported wind waker, and my daughter was a year and a half at the time. And we basically we. We played the game. Despite her young age we played the game together. And I just have all these vivid vivid memories of her sitting on the couch next to me. I swear one of her early words that she spoke was Gannon. So in addition to data and moment all that. And she just something about the presentation presentation of wind waker just captured her and she would she would walk by and she ignore most games, but wind way because she'd be like, oh and just sit down and just, you know, watch the TV or walk up to it. And that was also the first time she tried to controller and she interact and she ran with link in circles and unfortunately into the ocean a couple of times. But yeah, it was just one of those moments where realized you know, my my life, which as I had kids and my experience with games would change. And of course, I had three kids. So I have a perfect for player more Mario party team now and most, but that was kind of the first glimpse that I'd be playing games together with my kids. Now, I know from listening to you on. NBC podcast that you talk about playing with your kids a lot. And it sounds like they're actually pretty gamers. So would you say this is where her love of gaming started was with the wind waker? I think and honestly, I think it cemented her love for Nintendo games. You know? My my boys will play on all consoles and PC and all that. But my daughter always goes back to intendo game. So whenever a big new Nintendo game comes out. That's what she spends Oliver time doing. Whereas, you know, the boys kind of like move in and out. But when it comes to multiplayer games, always it's always unintended platform. That's great. And for me thinking back. I can't have different holiday memories..

"I think one of my favorite comedy is dead space. Yeah. Would limit was like an on rail shooter, which is actually really, really cool shooter. But yeah, extraction, you know, not the dead space experience that I was playing over on XBox PlayStation time. So I think that this is this is such an awesome fix for Nintendo fans that wanna play. These big triple eight games from third parties that might not have the resources to develop a switch specific version, but can do have the infrastructure to stream it to yourself and between streaming games and like the fuzzy versions of wolfenstein and like the mobile version of final fantasy fifteen. Right? It's clear that people wanna make games for switch just struggling with really about the going to say. I was just gonna say what the obviously the infrastructure is a big deal. Why we won't see the surly rolled wide the whole time. But yet like I was just thinking about when the we launched, it's like you're getting mass effect in Arkham city. But like three years later and this is a much better scenario run having to wait, but argued city gave you those cool electro gloves. So it's worth the wait. I think this will come stateside if there's enough interest in Japan and people are actually using the service, I do think we'll see this year. Right? Like every publisher is doing the sabre-rattling about streaming games, just announced a program as well. Yeah. I mean, streaming right now seems to be the biggest thing Ubisoft as talking constantly about how the next generation to them and the future is streaming. So obviously we're seeing that without ac- in practice here. Yeah, this is sort of been a topic of conversation for the last couple of years about how to really optimize games for streaming on different devices, right? Like even going as far back as the recipes. But you know that something that's that's been conversation for a very long time and is now finally becoming an actual. Tangible reality, which I think is really important. I will say, I'm absolutely shocked to jump now. Nothing shocks me, but jumping into the comments on this video. And I g n people are very upset about the idea that they would stream games, and that's just not how the game is supposed to be played in experienced, but like, hey, this is assassinated creed on your switch and like it might not be the most optimized version of it, but well, you can play it wherever you right now. It's probably not awesome, right. And like and people core gamers upset when the ownership level is removed. Yeah, they want the cartridge. They want to own it. They want to download it, have it on this witch and play it anywhere. And that's the promise of the system and this by definition can't play. I think Nintendo fans inherently are collectors and they, they, they love physical, tangible goods, and they've been collecting video games for decades and opening a paper manuals and getting Nintendo power's strategy guides. There's a, there's a tactile feeling to being an intendo fan. It's been there for a very long time, and that's slipping away quietly and slowly as it is across. The industry, and I've conversations in our in our Facebook group in voice chat Facebook group, which join all the time about this kind of stuff. And I think that a lot of people, they don't really want to see it head in that direction and the stopgap of like owning games digitally is one thing, but to just have something beamed to your system that vanishes. The second you go to the next train style seizes reaction. Like music nowadays, right? Yeah, not that many people collect vinyl. It's still out there, but I do who's show fans who's surprised that I collect vinyl. Yeah. Okay. Big surprise. So assassin's creed came out last Friday, but now let's talk about a game that came out a very long time ago. We spent some time talking about this on the show last week hundred and fifty thousand Fridays. That's right. The we did want to talk a little bit about the legend of Zelda SP. Yeah, legend of Zelda. So, yeah, there is a, we have written here Rahm hacked version because that's what we thought it was initially, it's not the case, but there is a new version of the legend of Zelda available to Nintendo switch online subscribers that starts you with.

"Exclusive backpacks or ten dollars rag debunks VS episode. That's true. All of this conversation. Ramones question Allstone from the fact that in case you missed the news that Sony finally, finally relented and opened up their platform to cross platform play this week, which is a an important thing for a number of reasons a for the fact that Sony's willing to build the infrastructure to make this happen, but be it also says a lot about. Fortnight in an article that Tom wrote very smartly, basically saying that fortnight is so popular and so powerful that it can bully Sony and intendo. It can do it at once. All right, everyone will bend over backwards to get fortnight. Make fortnight happy and get them to be on their box right on also you can get a dragging glider in for night now. So that is. Giants. We, we talked about it literally earlier in the show of the the voice chat fortnight. Nintendo's like everybody has to use our voice chat app and then fortnight's like, nah, no, we don't know. We don't, and they're like everyone, but fortnight has to use our voice chat. It opens. The question is something like rocket league, obviously, which is huge. An Eugene PlayStation and he was on PlayStation and they're still not communicating there yet. This stuff is almost like this. I actually, I hate the term console wars, and I hate all that sort of. But at the same time, kinda love this idea. It's almost like a splat fest, but between consoles, everybody lay there, put their flag in the ground and fight for their doubting. I think that'd be really cool across a lot of different games we lost. You heard it here. First great-grandfather on the council wars. Well, on that sad note, I have to bring the show to a close. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry to hear about your grandfather. Agree. Also thing I made up right now. Guys. Thank you so much for joining me. Thank you, Tom. Thank you, Brian. "Not unlike Brian was just discussing when he's talking about Nintendo switch online. That's right. So obviously we're going to talk a lot about Nintendo. Switch online are sort of impressions today, but we're also gonna talk about Valkyrie chronicles. A little bit later on. Thomas t marks will be here to talk about that who probably wear some kind of silly bowtie who knows. But then we're also going to say what we're playing and then we've got a couple of quick news hits for you. So stick around, don't go into air for the next hour. We're gonna pump Nintendo news. Those really awful way to put that right. Doc do that. How. Well, anyway, let's do it. Let's just a quick just a hard left and we're gonna talk about the Nintendo switch online service. I can feel myself getting read right now. Don't feel yourself after pulping people. Get you gotta stop. You gotta read it. I want to kick the conversation off with the thing that everyone's kind of talking about this week and that is the the instant. Any s classics library? Yes. That's one of the things that I've heard a lot of mentioned from the two of you, especially, I know that pairs very jazzed about the the Japanese accounts allowing you to download the Famicom version really closer. I got through myself. Yeah, yeah, you can do minute deep rack, but no, I wanna talk a little bit about the the games that are coming to the Famicom library or the NS library through the tennis which online service. So why don't you guys tell me a little bit about what you guys have been playing classics wise this week since yesterday, you wanna start? Well, Super. Mario brothers, three. I feel like along with legend of Zelda, like the two headlining games on the on the platform. Yeah, I'm forgetting anything. I'm gonna. You're getting the original Super Mario brothers, but three is a better game? Yes, one is probably the most iconic video game of all time. Right? Yeah, we've stopped there. You could call it that. I mean. Yeah. In terms of being conic. Yes, I would say the original Super Mario brothers did a lot in terms of pudding video games on the map, but I, I don't think that anybody on this panel would disagree that there are better Mario games on the and then you know, I'm a, I'm a big doctor Mario fan, and that was the first game I tried out..

"Podcast basically these guys made a nintendo zapper which is like the old any s light gun that worked with any us and they also made this these cool cardboard mario hats that they're attaching joy constitute to the top of and then these deeper has the other joy khan and you just kind of play laser tag with a friend and that's switch tablets act as their life bars are there hp so they can kind of keep track of who's winning and who got knocked out so i just think it's really genius idea and this is just some of the creativity that nintendo has been able to spark out of people just through know the switch and lebow so slow cool yeah good yeah i just wanted to share that with you guys i thought it was kind of fun before we jump into our leading games this week which we have plenty to talk about because we are catching up on some stuff that we haven't been able to talk about in the past couple of weeks with ether three and holidays and all this crazy stuff going on but let's just jump right into our pick of the week this week and that is luminous that's right remastered yeah yes it's a it's out now it's fourteen ninety nine it's actually didn't come out this week came out i believe last week last week yeah but it's it's definitely one that you should not miss especially if you're a fan of puzzle games and you have never played luminous i believe it's the first time this is on an intendo consul that's it on three d s port from remember it's an upgrade upgraded port yeah yeah and it's it's like a rhythm puzzle game rights yeah and i i played the hell out of this it was on the espn right has yes song jesus yeah i play the hell out of it and i bought it again and i can't stop playing it the basic concept is you're dropping these bricks from the top and a timeline goes across your stream that that your screen that clears out any batches of four that you've created with the same color and like as you do well and you create more combos the music changes the it's like you can see the the beat actually matches the line going across the street screen to like it changes the music until you get to a point where you entire theme for the screen changes two different colors on the music against which is so it becomes this in the in the main motive becomes his quest to unlock these different themes for the game yeah there's more there's like a puzzle motoo where you have to make shapes there's like endless modes just like in tetris games i just so yeah one of the most simple to one of the most addicting games i think i've ever played in my life it's one of those games where you can sit down and with the objective to play a couple of rounds and then all of a sudden it's hours later you peel your eyes off the screen and it's like what year is it like it's insane how addictive this game is it's super super good this was the main reason to own the little sony portable back back in the day what about the cisco you know obviously the the the brother separate a birth meteo was the s one that's the one we talked about on the ds the music's gucci it's very mesmerizing even just watch when wait till you hear music yet should also be said that the music is dope with from the leader.

"Guys excited about nintendo's which online coming out shirt humber yeah of course yeah i am i'm really looking for to it especially you know with all the features that are being added to a nintendo switch online that we don't already have essentially i think it's going to be cool but waypoint spoke with reggie pronounce regi regi yeah two gs eight point game they point vape point spoke with and they asked him about the benefits that switch owners will get with nintendo switch online sure you know even over what they already have for free essentially and they also touched on how intendo plans to handle legacy content via nintendo switch online so this is another quote straight from reggie reggie said fundamentally there are three elements to the service connected play cloud saves and the legacy content we're gonna continue providing more details as we get them and he went on to say what i would tell you is that we know that intendo has a deep and rich library we know the consumers enjoy playing those legacy games and we also know that we've done a lot in making that content available whether it's in the work we've done in on plas past platforms or whether it's what we've done with micro cons with the micro consoles in the any s classic and snes classic for us it's really about being thoughtful around what's the best way to enable consumers to have access to this content and to do it in a meaningful way we think the work we're doing with knit with an intendo switch online is one way to address that opportunity so to me this sounds like we are figuring out how to charge you for these games pay for its virtual console in with another name right like there's again there's no way that soup ns classic classic we'll just exist as stand alone concerts and that we will not see those games reappear and intend to actually leveraging the power of those games on the switches well i mean it's the question is how right i've said it before and i'll say it again like the one thing that i that nintendo will always have over me is that i will buy super metro and super mario world anywhere that.

"Star fee is one of those characters they have feels like feels like should be bigger and then in tennis should put more more work until nintendo is like this confounding game where like when we first heard about nintendo going into mobile we all thought oh nintendo perfect five phone right out there and we haven't heard anything about this franchise outside of smash brothers losing of course that would be such an easy win for them on switch to it's got the touch screen it's portable you don't get anywhere you know i just taking one of those old games importing it over would be really smart dum are you paying dogs yeah it was really cute i liked it i didn't think a bazillion hours into it but i believe if you are dinosaurs better than dogs okay this is this very specific but my problem with nintendo is that like the better your dog got it being dog the longer his walks were then so like you would take him out for a walk and it would take like forty minutes and then he would poop and also find presence and you get like mario hat very specific problem but you know that's really just kind of stuff that keeps me going at night yeah this this really keeps you awake that that's it really so yeah bring back the chihuahua and friends right okay so in case you guys haven't heard the news i just want to quickly tell you all mario tennis aces is getting a demo on switch next week so you'll be able to download the demos starting thursday may twenty fourth and you'll be able to choose between mario peach yoshi and bowser and compete online in an online tournament that is going to start off on june first at six pm pacific time and it'll run until sunday june third until eleven fifty nine pacific as well so the demo is playable offline you can just play it at your own pace whenever you want but they will be holding this tournament online similar to like what you know the arms test punch was or the t flat testfire is that what they call them i think so yeah something like that but it's spot no that was that was the other thing yet that's what happens.

"He realized that either like it's it be you know when you're on twitter i need social network you kind of like that people follow you like there's this kind of forward movement and to bring that that needs to be brought to the forefront with switch to i feel like i really liked that system at the u i love just going on the different games boards and seeing everyone slam drawings sounds like those games those are i don't know all the week you had such a social community and it's unfortunate that we don't have that on switch right now and that goes it's being ported to switch for fifty nine nine nine but that goes back to identity to right so there's reputation i think is is lacking in this identity something that makes it feel unique and different and like if you go into the chat app it's like it doesn't quite feel right doesn't feel nintendo enough they can they can do so much more with that on the actual platform well it's technically still in beta so i'd love to see what it's actually going to look like once it's fleshed out on did you guys have any sort of features that you wanted to add or that you think nintendo needs to bring to switch online i'll i'll say another one for me is system level game invites just being able to like jump into any game that you're playing like let's say if you're playing split soon and your friends playing mario kart it'd be cool to invite them into your split soon su game while they're playing mario i was like playing splits last weekend and i was trying to invite friends into splat fest but like impossible to do yeah i couldn't do it so it's a that's a no brainer i mean they did at notifications to see when you friends are playing another game so they have the overlays none of care there's already but there's already.

"Yeah i was just thinking about that i mean like we for us it was when we got the dev kit for the for the inexpert and then i mean it was it was before like before that meeting or they had a word for it as we were being disclosed yeah i was the word yeah and before we we sat in a cafeteria with nervously with a cup of coffee talking to an intendo guy that we know and i was sort of asking what so in which orders to do this like is wouldn't it be best if we bring students dig to the switch i yep and they said it's probably better if we'll go with with new content as that's how we're going to go and i agreed with that i thought it was really good and also gave us sort of an opportunity to to to blow it open from like the comes dig too it's fantastic game yeah on the switch if you like that game then you should get back in and play the oldest titles sure i'm curious to see how nintendo is going to do because the switch is such a success right yeah what if they would just bring back all the back catalog yeah i mean they annetta too short yeah yeah that's happened and like you could have like they didn't wait for bayoneted three to come out so you know they did it the other way around some some learnings there but i mean i'm personally i'm glad that that dig to came to switch i because i hadn't had an opportunity to play the other steamrolled games.

"No exactly just toss it out right or just tell us on the spot or send us a polite email after as not really what we're looking for we're sort of invested all of this money without researching that properly i very very clever turned out because no it was very dumb of but it seems like it was pretty smooth sailing since then and now obviously you've made a splash yep dig too is one of the top selling games on the shop i i assume with your follow up you're pretty confident that it'll be an easy easy process yet which of course you will announce the game today here on the or you're talking about that yeah for playing pairs playing the love me i don't dare to say anything executive i'll just say the room yet nobody but the other thing you know the other thing that struck me as as a as a indie you have the choice whether you put something on steam i and maybe even try try to early access while you still bug testing and stuff or you can decide to put an on the switch like what what drove the decision to put it like i on the switch it's it's the relation to nintendo basically i mean if you put it in perspective like in two thousand thirteen let's say in july two thousand thirteen nobody had heard about imaging form and nintendo decided to put us in nintendo direct with this game that they didn't know if it was going to fly is just that a few people in an intense like the game and sort of championed it for us and it was really brave of them to do that.

"No doubt it does it legal legends does it were they have this big arenas and it's like a huge competitive scene but nintendo did it and it was like very relaxed and he was arms and poking tournament and split tune to and swill tuned to was the only one where they had a actual like different countries that came in to compete but it didn't seem very like competitive whose very like fun nature it competitive were and i think that you know wall sony and microsoft are bigger nintendo has their brand where it's very friendly and fine and they don't want to lose that and wall and i mean not saying at sony and microsoft their stuff isn't fun it's just that nintendo is fun and it's not like it may seem smaller because the idea of what they're doing has become smaller whom sony isn't doing what nintendo is do do such different governance i mean revenue wise than thunder certainly is not as small company let's not judge the company by the way you era like let's look at the wheel area ero and they're so highly profitable compared to the other guys for i like the xbox division is not always operating anywhere near what nintendo doubles down even during some of the rougher years i think that the reason that we are enjoying the switch air now is because of success of the we are here like they can take a hit like we you because they aren't intend to end that is ultimately what is different to me about their company compared to sony and microsoft and it cetera is that they will always march to the beat of their own drummer like they they don't necessarily usaid this but like they don't necessarily need to conform because.
