"That no no no no no no no no. A lot is not matched money. So he says i can necessarily win the ten million or six million get hold of. All i'm saying is lebron was a free agent. He took less money. So he chris bosh and d- way all play together and in the process of them taking less money lebron steel loss. So there is no guarantee if i take maximum why take left than max that i'm going to win so with that being the case i'm going to take max's money. I don't tell anybody this what you should do. Because there are a lot of people that We never ask the to take less money. We don't play championships and do it. They don't there's not an actual championship to win. What's your priority. Is it to make money or win. Titles could say both fifty fifty exactly. Okay i'll try to make a if you plan professional four. Two things should be abundantly clear. You play for money. You play for memories. And i'm trying to get as many about canada both well. That's fifty fifty. One is going to undercut the annoy question. Michael jordan took thirty million each of the last two years. Why did you ask him to take a pay cut. Why did he take less money. You know what michael. Let's give a whole career ninety three million dollars just to keep this in perspective. Ninety three million for his entire career. Lebron is on pace now to make four hundred and thirty three million. What you know you know inflation. Things have changed now. He'll usually goodbye cadillac for three thousand dollars. Can you buy calexico for three grand. No you can't change. But michael jordan won his first three championships making a grand total over those three years of nine point eight million. He's making three something million was longtime ago but still he finally got paid reasonable money because he's worth one hundred million in one thousand nine hundred ninety eight. That's what kind of draw he was. He made thirty and thirty three and his last two and he was still underpaid guys. Now mr be bob. Purchase the broncos for sixty eight million. He paid john sixty five million over sixteen years career. There guys getting sixty seventy eighty million dollars signing bonus. Skip things are different now. The money is different now inflation so we can't say we call it okay. That guy made this month. He can only make that. Just imagine. what. A guy like lt guy like montana got like elway. What would they make that. They were playing. That was talk now. In your sport the national football talk about the greatest player. Who's ever played in your lead. Greatest quarterback ever tom brady. Let's look at what he's done. He's made chicken feed his whole career. And then let's just go lately as he won his championships. Let's let's start in twenty fourteen when they came back on the boom in the fourth. Quarter to win that game. You could argue how it ended. But tom brady was extraordinary in the fourth quarter. He made nineteen million dollars that year. That's one thousand. Nine hundred ninety two thousand fourteen was not chickenfeed. Well it was compared to what a lot of others were making so then it goes the next year he took thirteen million and then as they pulled off the comeback for the ages against the atlanta falcons twenty th sixteen season. He made fourteen point seven million dollars that that probably putting middle of the pack quarterback money then the next year twenty seventeen when he says the all time playoff record with five hundred five yards passing in the super bowl he made fifteen then fifteen again in two thousand eighteen when they beat the rams and the super bowl this this is average money at best and then twenty nine thousand nine him. He escalated all the way to twenty three and this year he took twenty five million to go to tampa. This is the greatest. So that's the only way to do it so whatever. Tom brady dust on the way to do it. Nobody else can do. So what about roadway mahomes. Why did he do it. It was to maximize his supporting cast. He always made that clear. I want to maximize my ability to win rate. You said you didn't know what. Bill village say having any cap money so you didn't know what bill belichick was spending so well. Tom can't spend the money he can only make it available so he made it available to bell check to me. I am lost the biggest mystery to me. Maybe an in your sport is. We did all the money go. Because tom gave montana cap. Money will look the way. I look at it like this. If lebron james says this is what. I'm worth somebody pay me. What i'm worth and i'm gonna do skip. He not taken how he gives. You have effort. He gives you how play. Pay me from what i'm worth. What what the lakers. Dean hit value to be over. The last two years is eighty five million. If i'm taking twenty and twenty whittard of helped his chances to win more championships no no no. So if they had an extra twenty five million to play with under the gap you couldn't add an eighth or a ninth man who would be much better than the eighth or ninth. That you're gonna wind up with. I can assure you. Rob lincoln have looked all around and he tried to add and i'm sure he's read about a d way of wait as long as he could. It and lebron was waiting. Okay what can we add. Can we add a piece. Could we add a piece there. Well it doesn't look like we're gonna be able to add a piece so boom we're going to move forward with what we have skip. It also would have been such great. Pr to say you know what. I'm just taking less money so we can win. Titles you know knows slim as question. I take less money. Is there any guarantee that we're going to win the title if i think less money no there's a guarantee you're going to have a better chance. Biscuit skill lebron. Was max somebody last year max. Money last year. They won the title. Holo paul george was oh max. Money money they. There are no guarantees in sport. That's what we love so much because they are not We gotta stop this notion. You need to really start this notion skill. Tom brady is not the only way to do things. Well because tom did it like this everybody. Tom can do whatever he likes. Just because goat so that's one one way to do it. Well or floyd mayweather data his way. A lot of other people have promoters with hope no cap no cap but he can do it. His way is solo sport alley. So i skip at the end of the day. Lebron inc lebron is the entity and my job is to make as much money as i possibly can have as many members of the possibly can so right now. I got a lot of good memories. And i made a ton of money to do that so but because tom brady. Tom brady does what he doing. Lebron james doe live. What tom k. Don't come to me with we. Don't have enough hell. Don't come to me talk about no asterik and we went another title got it. Yeah got that you need to know. Maybe they'll have to go bubble again. Guess what twenty years from now remember. Remember the ring than things. Do you remembers get forget. Oh not in the strike shortened year. Do you remember that's getting guess. What tim duncan they won the title by twenty twelve. The heat won the title after my. I think not Tim duncan should been five zero and finals. That's what he should. we should have been. I know what he is who. I know what he is. Yep skip let us normally when people on a joyous occasion. Congratulations congratulations. thank you oh man. that was. That's not what you're doing here. And congratulations on your great luck. Look y'all got issue. We were talking about the issue. That's all going to the base but we we heard it all the news. We heard it all along. 'cause we live in a duplex duplex. Everything he's i told you day coming the o'day carmen happen sooner than later. Well opening night as your skill. Yeah i'll give you a congratulated happy about this. You can't go right now to these games away inside the hobby for one day.

With Huge New Investment, Headspace Sets Sights on Meditation Domination

"Two thousand seventeen late nights. Jimmy Fallon asked Andy putty comb the CEO of mindfulness APP. Company head space to lead a meditation on live TV. I wanted to try something tonight. I don't think it's ever been done on late night. Television definitely not before but I wanNA see if you can guide our audience and the roots in town for two minute meditation. She good I mean around the world. Everyone there's GonNa be people in bars right now. That's happening next year. Yeah Yeah Yeah. Awesome all watching in a Bollywood recommending. Panic loss down. Yes of course. Yeah at the end of that meditation. Jimmy Fallon opened his eyes granted. Angelic grant and the audience burst into wild applause. It was a moment for comb and his investors to celebrate the mainstreaming of mindfulness. Well now he's reached another milestone last week. His company announced that it has raised another ninety. Three million dollars from investors bullish on our collective desires to breathe are stress away. Or maybe. They're certain that there's just going to be more and more stress to deal with whatever. The reason meditation APPs are perceived safe nonprescription and relatively affordable ways to subdue the anxiety that ails us with that money had spaces raced ahead of its arch-rival calm. The race has been neck and neck or should we say head to head for the last few years we last reported on this fight in the fall at the time the two apps together had more than one hundred million users com had raised a total of one hundred forty million dollars and had become a unicorn that is investors valued at more than a billion dollars. It was starting to look like Goliath to head spaces. David no longer with head spaces latest round of funding. It surpassed com todate heads basis raised. Almost one hundred seventy million dollars. According to crunch pace with that cash the company wants to prove. Mindfulness is clinical effectiveness through scientific studies. Despite its popularity meditation still suffers from a lack of hard clinical proof of effectiveness. That's a problem head. Space has been trying to solve so far participated in about seventy different studies with research institutions like Carnegie Mellon and Stanford University head. Space will use some of that new money to engage in more clinical trials. Also it's still quietly pursuing. Fda approval about eighteen months ago. The company announced that it wanted agency approval in order to become the world's first prescription meditation APP then. The Wall Street Journal reported that the company planned to seek FDA approval sometime this year archrivals common head space may be after the same result. Meditation domination on a global scale but they're pursuing different strategies head space

How cities are preparing their water infrastructure for bigger storms

"The cost of heavier rainfall. I'M NPR CHIEF. Meteorologist Paul Hutton. Or this is climate. Cats governor. Tim Wall says Minnesota Needs Two hundred ninety three million dollars to retrofit. Its water infrastructure to keep up with climate change last year more than twenty Minnesota location set annual precipitation records that includes the twin cities and Rochester. Were more than fifty. Five inches fell last year. Minnesota is now about five inches wetter on average than in nineteen eighty and these heavier twenty-first-century rains are overwhelming. Our Twentieth Century Stormwater Infrastructure Randy Nip rash is a storm water regulatory specialist with Stanford Consulting and the Minnesota cities stormwater coalition. Hi Randy Paul. So we see the data right. Minnesota's getting wetter. What are the impacts of this climate shift on Cities? Not only are we getting wetter in general but more of our rainfall is coming in more intense. Storms everybody has seen what a really intense storm does to an urban storm water system. But you can Get those sort of impacts at scales where you have real problems where you can jeopardize property where people can get injured or even killed and those impacts are real inconsequential for our cities. We have rain bursts last summer in South. Minneapolis in a neighborhood that overwhelmed the storm systems and there was water up to the top of the tires and cars parked on the street. How does that four cities to to those heavier bursts of rain? One of the things that we try to do is figure out where the problems are going to be an advance so instead of just responding to problems after they happen we can use computer models to look at our urban stormwater systems we can we refer to it as dropping designed storm onto our urban landscape using these computer models. Watch how all the water moves through the storm water system and see where the problems are going to be. So for instance the hundred year storm nowadays For the twin cities area is thought to be about seven and a half inches which is up from six inches from earlier precipitation frequencies that change in rainfall can cause impacts that we can Analyzing advance anticipate and perhaps address before they happen instead of after it happened. Okay so let's say we do that. And we address them. I assume we're building bigger storm water projects and how much can a big storm? Water project cost a city a million multiple millions of dollars. Sometimes sometimes it's a fixes though can be quite simple. You can provide a path for water to pass under an emergency situation. Could be a road. Could be a parking lot of places where you can move water or store. Water even temporarily. Sometimes you can do it pretty cheaply randy and you're dealing with cities. What's your assessment of where they are with this process? Are they on the right track? With upgrading. Stormwater infrastructure cities are as usual trying their best They also have multiple water issues to deal with so for instance they have state permitting. Requirements for water quality whereas flooding questions are related to water quantity. There isn't the same regulatory pressure on the water quantity side but the cities are always and and for a very long time have been deeply concerned about flooding potential randy crash with stand tech consulting and the Minnesota City stormwater coalition thanks for being on climate cast today always a pleasure. Paul keep up the good

"ninety three million dollars" Discussed on Mornings with Keyshawn, Jorge & LZ

"Winery in is got tighten all Joko me so happens it happens is especially if you start early made ninety three million dollars this week so join shop retired churches then every by tour better right what else is going on don't mess with that but I guess maybe hundred six hundred eighty one the playoffs before two hundred eight hundred thousand eight here's why you do mess with the same reason that the red sox last year messed within the a week a month a season and that's Dave Roberts is managing the postseason the perfect example perfect example was the way he handled Joe Kelley last night with a six run lead we're at five hundred I guess it was in that situation then you can let him try to wiggle I let's see what happens here because if the game blows up it's it's not great but you you live to play another day that he left Joe Kelley out there for four guys three walks in a single with a wild pitch to the backstop the letter run in you can't manage like that you can't do you need to be quicker you need to be faster to make a move you need to be faster to tinker with your lineup whereas over the course of a season hey look of course eager he's fine he's GonNa find it well okay but is he going to find it tonight is he going to find it against this guy who strikes out a million guys he strikes out a million times himself that's a bad match up going a different right you have to tinker with it a little boost decision key worries you more Martinez decided to leave Korbinian why is getting the Snot beat out of him or Davison into leave and Joe Kelley who does not be not of them but it's driven a little bit well I would say that I would probably never mind Martini I don't WanNa talk about that but some Dave's decisions in the last several play offs have been questioned whether it was who he pitched who he did pitch winning move removed and we brought in he just I don't know sometimes I think the analytics get in the way of what he really thinks thank you d like hearing that I like it when magic when Lebron does it and I like it when does it we'll get back to the dodgers and game four tonight in DC we'll get back to the NFL as well but the acres we saw them on the court playing basketball together for the first time in guys just a preseason it doesn't matter it doesn't translate that was pretty awesome that was pretty amazing watch in looked to where we thought yeah you look legit legit it look real and before we dismissed as as the preseason go to stay play their guy they did what they had Katie's gone he's not coming through that door cray thompsons coming through the door he's got crutches right now they played the Ngelo Russell play draymond green and he plays out stuff at eighteen first half points draymond didn't score and the Angelo struggled Deangelis too wind from the floor you look at look at Anthony Davis did he scored twenty two points in eighteen minutes yet ten boards couple of assists and a steal you'll get Lebron James in eighteen minutes fifteen points eight assists three rebounds Um Amnesty will it just looked right and then the biggest part of this maybe and Elza you've been on this for awhile going all the way back to win before they even signed him Dwight Howard looked great Dwight Howard had a nine team noa nukes but once they didn't get in oh you were saying that this might work out nine points nine rebounds in just eighteen minutes Yeah Dwight Howard has an unhealthy season has never not average doubled. rebel you I've I've been trying to get him assigned to white since last year last year I was like the maker should've got dwight but everybody's like oh no no because of the taste and he left in people's mouth was here several years ago he's a total remember keep saying totally different person you would think that he's grown from whatever it was that went on L. A. Plus you dealing with veteran players in superstar players Michael Brown in a D Rondo that's there that can put their arms around you respect people you respect players and I'm sure the white respects the guys on the Lakers team in that they say some two and he's going to get into line now only that his contract says is such dead hey man this is a one stop thing if you ever want to have a chance to win a championship and get back to the championship again in not get handed to you like was handed to you before this is the this is the opportunity chance you willing to embrace it and clearly he has enough people are forgotten how good right Howard really is and he's going to have an opportunity to show that because he won't be the focus and as long as he accepts that he won't be the focus we straight you sit in a little room and Rachel Star smiling at him and I go on you're playing really well do you feel like you're an all star and he starts yeah I am an all star yeah I should be touching now that starts happening we got a problem but as long as he's sit down and be humble he's going to get a quiet able and he's GonNa end up being an all star reserve his and he may wind up doing that question is posed to him he should say yeah I feel like I'm planning on all star no no no no me doesn't mean this is my team it just means Rachel poses the court to say hey are you all started you feel and he's giving you all those numbers the I'm GonNa do what you normally do which is tell you what the proper response is here asked me a question do you feel like you at all store I think anyone who plays Lebron James and ethnic Davis looks good that's how you answer the question you don't say yes I am here no no no you say see Ad You're looking at it as the old Dwight Howard I'm look it has if he's telling tried or older and new Dwight Howard here here's why I'm optimistic about Dwight okay for two reasons number one is the fact that Lebron James is in the room and he's not gonNA suffer nonsense he he will not if he feels that there's nonsense and play he will end it or remove it one or the other the other part is key like you said his money he is money's not guaranteed he has to stay in fine if he wants his money because I don't believe that he's a different person I believe that he might have matured a little bit I believe that maybe he has learned a few things over time from doing some stuff that maybe didn't work great maybe didn't work great here the first time but Dwight Howard is who he is back to the Ah Yeah I do I think it gives an opportunity we will all be what we kind of are if you are a giver you're GonNa give if you're a taker take if you're inherently lazy you can get motivated and disciplined instead but the second opportunity presents itself to kind of be lazy you're GonNa Fall back into that the opposite is true if you're self starter and somebody you might take a day or two but it just doesn't feel right you go back to being the discipline motivated Dwight's Dwight now maybe these other things will keep him in the in the right lane for a period of time but Dwight is Dwight I don't think there is a new Guy Klay Thompson was on the pre-game show with Michael Talking about the addition of Dwight with the Lakers from one of the best big men in the League of our generation I'll obviously ask some tough times in la before but it's a new era I think he's just way more grateful to be here very humble and if he can just be the Dwight I saw my rookie year we gave forty and twenty six at Oracle if he'd be half that man the Lakers steal and there's no denying talent is just he's willing to accept his role which I think he will man you gain experience as you get older mislead you got look I guess he could've told him no come on over here you look here's a Guy Klay Thompson who played in Lee who's an all storm cell who knows if he can give him half of it they gotta steal yeah no it was a great it move and there's people that didn't want it and there's really only upside because if there's any sort of nonsense he just get rid of but see I just don't dog I see players all the time professional sports where they've been given in and not that he was given a bear rapper he didn't deserve it or whatever the case is people never wanted he'd have benefited a doubt they always hold onto what happened in the past which you in your career and now is something different you moved on from the Kobe Bryant days has nothing to do with him anymore I'm willing to Brian I'm with I'm with Rondo on with what's your guy named Alex Russo who gave you ten the only thing I think that they have to worry about this season is health if their health is you put into this week there's going to be injuries always arts professional sports but as long as they don't have an unusually high amount of injuries and as long as they don't have really extended injuries with Lebron Anthony Davis they're going to win a whole bunch of games there are two things that came from that one game north preseason but his trends that haunted him for the last couple of seasons numbers rose free throw shooting nineteen thirty ish not team third come on Y'all come on now y'all come on eighteen thirty hard time three point shooting they took thirty three points the only may tend to arrest came from Rondo have you wait around for five or damn now you're gonNA be in trouble you know who can Ypres we'll get used to that ball dude running around putting in buckets you might as well get used to it I'd say wasn't good but you you like you like he the second coming Chris assum the only two guys that really shot free throws poorly in that game were Lebron Dwight you look at the rest of them they all kind of did what you would expect them to do and Lebron the brunt last year was the first year that Lebron miss him free throws that you would expect him to make their Lebron's percentage has never been you know he's GonNa grab and Murphy but he's also been the guy who always floated somewhere in the seventies and made the ones that he needed to make last year he did not right or he say who's Calvin Murphy there's a whole book wikipedia there's a whole bunch on Calvin Murphy is.

"It's not getting across and so but it is getting across because we're talking about. It okay we're talking about it things are actually happening in the community these. Guys aren't just doing this it's one thing if they were just protesting and there. Was nothing behind it right you, can say what you want. About collar capital he put a million dollars of his own money I do respect that The long boy the, long kid from, Philadelphia Chris Christmas long has put money behind his calls has put time behind his call with these players have gone out to these communities had town hall meetings had different interaction trying, to integrate the police an inter-city people and trying to do all. Of these different things so it's not just about what. Happens on the field that is a place where they're saying we have the, biggest focus on it but they're going out in the other communities in doing things to back up what they're saying in truly making it truly making it about the call that. You're, trying to push now people may not be people may see, the protests, and say shut, up get out here and they're not actually taking the time to hear what is, being, said and here hey this is what we're dealing with. In the minority communities and a lot of, people who, are saying, shut up be quiet don't look like me and don't have to face these type of injustices that we have to face in our. Communities and in, America in today's time do you do, you think that the NFL sorry Kobe, do you think that the NFL cares No okay. Then I'm just going to use this devil's advocate. Here they gave ninety three million dollars to the cause so if if money is one of the things that shows, how much you care NFL gave ninety three million dollars why don't you think they care will be because they have enough money to throw at it and just to kind of say they the NFL always do try to balance this thing out and. Make it look like they're playing both sides very well so ninety three million dollars and to where the money. Is, going. That that says a lot about it Like that says. A, huge. Amount of where where where are they. Putting their money at what organizations what what. What. What neighborhoods what communities organizations are they actually. Putting that ninety three million dollars in do we know how it's being distributed is. It being distributed you know a little by little is that enough money that's going to make an effect in those areas in the right direction are they trying to help the calls, in it what I'm saying is..

"The giants had an opportunity to take the guy you need the guy i don't think there's any debate on that even the people who love the pick they just think eli still the guy but you need the guy there's no question that you need the quarterback there's a bunch of different ways to go about getting the quarterback this free agency there's the draft i guess there's not a bunch this too but the fact of the matter is the giants were given this way they were just giving it they didn't want it they certainly didn't want it nobody does but this is what was presented to them that was the way to get the guy i fully i if they don't think they don't think they were the guys then i don't know what to say most people felt they were those two and even baker mayfield were guys that could lead a franchise and the giants just passed on the giants were gifted darnold and they decided to pass on it and mark my words you will not win the super bowl with a running back without a quarterback and you're going to have to find quarterback now i don't know how you're gonna go about it but i'd much rather take my chances with darnold then get a proven commodity like cousins i know what cousins is i've seen cousins play and if you think i if you think you're franchises better off playing him paying him ninety three million dollars guaranteed as opposed to drafting darnold we disagree on how to build a football team bob and tom's river what's going on bob i don't chris what's going on always enjoyed you too by the way i think you're way off base.

"Next twenty two months minus three quarters that we don't even know and couldn't even find if our lives depended on it acquaintance explanation is this storms are expensive repairing the damage is very expensive you as utility repair is utility repair we cover those costs we have something big for decades called the storm fund is designed to kind of level is those costs less we get hit by a hurricane and we have had at least two hurricanes three if you count sandy that have been part of that going into the fall we had a deficit and that storm fund of like ninety three million dollars not counting the october storm not counting this congo line of storms that we've had in the month of march which is expensive what this division report says look that thirty six hour period where crews and contractor resources and national grid resources that that that thirty six hour period that ratepayers are not on the hook for those costs because in as the report concludes that the restoration really should have been concluded in in within a more effective manner if by a factor of thirty six hours okay i'm following you you're always crystal clear but i'm lost it's kind of like i'm taking a an sat test and i got to read the question six times over what what is that what what what does that mean what what is the guy on the gallon main street gonna get anything or or we are back feeling ninety three million dollars of a of a storm fund that's in in the whole anyway what is there anything this is anybody going to walk away from that october deficiency and say all right i got a little bit of mind back whatever it is case of you know he's a rebate check it's a case of you as a ratepayer are not going to as as a report has as direct are not going to have to pay for that thirty six hours of the storm response whatever that figure comes up too so that that additional cost that additional cost value would not intern then be added to the storm fund meaning the shareholders have to put in some some dough that's not matched by the normal contribution by the way how do we contribute to that storm fund real quick and he's that is part of the bill that is.

"Just to point out what has happened here via the cubs recently of bottomed out at an opening day payroll of ninety three million dollars that was 2014 when they were sort of in a lull ninety three million dollars the astros of course bottomed out at twenty six twenty six million dollars the astra spent a less than the cubs lowest in 2011 2012 2013 2014 and the 2015 so the astros really tanked the cubs are more like me we're not going to be very good so there's a there's a difference there but in any case the the hardest thing to do when you're going through baseball history like you mentioned the possibility of doing a deep dive here part of thing to do when you go through history is to try to identify will what was the what was the team's behaviour at this point you you have past record but you don't really know what they're direction was necessarily you just have the number of wins and losses and just speaking from personal experience of course i've seen a number of manner seems that if you looked at the record you think that he was clearly rebuilding now they weren't you who are trying to be good apnea nate and do doesn't then but you're right i haven't paid attention to this for long enough to know no how often historically teams had go into a year acknowledging that they're not prepared to win you know like in i dunno in 1990 sixword were teams going and being like yeah we know where bad yeah like maybe the language is different than maybe you know people are more tolerant of teams coming out and saying yeah were you know looking ahead to 2020 or whatever and we're investing in the farm system in all of that just because people know and care about farm systems and prospects today and it's more acceptable to say that because the astor's in the cubs just did it and look how well it worked for them not that it will work that well for everyone but yeah maybe the.
