"This is wet notes here on scuba shock radio for monday. September twenty seventh two thousand and twenty one first up. I want to congratulate tech clark and a dive locker. Podcast on celebrating the second anniversary for those who don't know about this. Podcast tech. Started this to help die professionals with various topics and techniques. But it's not just for dive professionals. I remember listening to the first episode. Way back in two thousand nineteen just before dima that year i've come to look forward to each weekly episode tech plans to keep the show going and has teed up a lot of great new content for the year year ahead. So i'd encourage you to check out the dive locker podcast. There's a lot of great information and perspective on things that hopefully will give you something to think about. Great job tech. Keep it coming now. I don't know what it is. But i seem to be a sucker for a message in a bottle story. So here's another one this time. The story involves a bottle that was washed up on the shores of the big island of hawaii. The bottle started his journey thirty seven years ago from japan and it was put in the water by school children. As part of an experiment in monitoring ocean currents the number of bottles were cast into the ocean in nineteen eighty-four from choshi highschool hawaii's about six thousand kilometers or four thousand three hundred miles from the launch point now. The bottle was found by abbie graham while her family was visiting a beach near hilo. It is estimated that about seven hundred and fifty of these bottles were tossed into the ocean between nineteen eighty four and nineteen eighty five. The last time one was found was in two thousand and two on kake. Jima island overall. The bottles have been found in seventeen. Different locations including okinawa the philippines china and even the west coast of the united states. I just get fascinated by these stories and often wonder just how many messages in bottles are out there in the ocean now. Last week we got an email from the clearly clearly came in resorts and it wasn't good. News clearly came in resorts include cobalt coast on grand cayman. Little came beach resort and cayman. Brac beach resort. The news informed us that the cayman borders will remain closed until two thousand twenty two. Now that's tough at a recent press conference to premier indicated that phase. Three of the original plan will start sometime. In february given the rise in cove in nineteen cases the resorts are now planning on opening on february. Fifth two thousand twenty two. Now this has been a really tough situation. If you remember way back in april i reported that the plan was to open in late april or early may two thousand and twenty one. That the show has absolutely no plans. Of cancelling now they did indicate that accordance with the local health mandates. Everyone will be required to wear a mask on the exhibit floor. There are several large past exhibitors. Who are forgoing the show this year causing some to question whether it should even take place. I know we've been getting a lot of surveys from our vendors as to whether we plan to go or not right now matt and i will be there. Tom indicated that it would be extremely difficult to cancel at this late date. Given the contracts that are in place and that if it were cancelled it would seriously impact demon's ability to put on these shows in the future. So we're looking forward to a successful show this year out in las vegas and finally today. I wanna talk about a piece of underwater camera gear that you might just want to consider. Nintendo Releases New Switch Model With 7-Inch OLED Screen
"Well who knows why they're doing this now instead of at e three as was the rumor but nintendo this morning announced an updated switch with a larger seven inch seven. "So that's that's pretty awesome Other things that i've noticed this year's model does not have swipe for volume. It does have a touch pad like this. This whole surface of the earbuds are touch sensitive. So i can tap you know to play pause Answer or call that sort of stuff. I could tap and hold to summon assistant but no swipe volume changes honestly. Didn't bug me at all. Because my absolute favorite feature of the pixel buds. and that's the hands free voice And i can make the exact volume change. That i want with my voice so i can say hey g turn the volume up thirty percent and boom does it and i don't have to touch anything you know so out for a run. I can just do that on the go. Great it works No attention alerts which was an experimental feature anyways on last year's model. But this is the this was a feature that when you turn it on it would. It would detect when like dogs barking and go. That's a dog barking and it would lower the volume for you again. it's an experimental feature. I didn't really rely on that much last year's model anyways so totally didn't miss it And that's that's mostly about it All in all like the still have an excellent sound actually really do like the sound of last year's model and the sound Quality of this year's model is basically identical is basically the same same Technology as far as that's concerned both are ip x four water resistant. that's the same as the earbuds. The airpods pro by the way Excellent integration with android. so if you've got a pixel phone you're going to get that fast pair. You're going to get that you it's like it's like integrated into settings it's really nice how it ties into the phone. Same as last year's Great call quality had no issues with calls again same experiences. Last year's battery life is a little ma- i'd say compared to others that i've tried four to five hours on the earbuds and you know i probably had to charge them a little bit more frequently than some of the other earbuds painting my daughter's room over the weekend and using a lot and i noticed that a little bit but i could use either of the earbuds in ear. They aren't they aren't One ear bud doesn't connect to the other one and then that other one to the phone. They both connect independently to the phone. So that's a really good feature and then I would say the biggie is know bluetooth five point. Oh but this time there's a new chipset in the earbuds on the pixel a series the pixel buds series and this new chipset. Google says is there to improve on that wireless connectivity issue. That last year's model saw. And i can tell you in my time with this. I didn't have any dropouts. I didn't experience any of that. I don't know if it's gonna happen down the line but it definitely. It hasn't happened while i've been Testing these over the past week week and a half. So that's great news for anyone who's who's pointing that saying. Hey you burn me once. Google don't burn me again. The value is extremely high. Here i think for ninety nine dollars like it's kind of at the point where i'm like okay. They are scheduled to be available for everyone on june seventeenth. So that's a week from now. And of course i've got to be smarter than the boxes. I opened this up. But i'm really curious. Google sent me these to review and as you can see they actually sent me kind of the same Color way they do have a few different color. Options with the pixel buds series. A. or a series. But i mean side by side. The cases look almost identical. Save save for that little. They got rid of the storm trooper. Look how could yeah. I know or the panda. However you want to look at it like when i popped. This open actually really liked the the black and white approach now. It's like like almost stark white by comparison which actually looks looks. Good in of itself. You can see right now. I opened them up. So this is a fast pair. That is just amazing. Right bluetooth pairing can be such a pain in the butt. But google has this fast pair support so all i had to do is open it up and it's like oh hey you want to set this up. Maybe a little bit smaller or house of these are less expensive that i guess i didn't quite get that i got okay so is this is supposed to be the budget version or is it the new version. "Printers have evolved over the last few years just like everything else in our industry and there are some pretty interesting options right now. Some of which are quite affordable. So you can get state of the art and not break the bank and i'm gonna cover. I mean the most expensive printer i cover. I believe is eight hundred and ninety nine dollars but most of them are well below that well below that now before we get to the printers themselves. I wanna talk a little bit about die based Printing and pigment based printing. because i'll refer to them when i talk about the different printers. Generally speaking dye based printing is excellent. And it's really good If you like vibrant colors if you print gloss or semi gloss the dye based inks today are just fantastic pigment. Inks if you're someone that likes using your different blacks inks know like you're black and you're gray that kind of thing for gallery type black and white prints Then i think pigment is a good way to go and in fact one of the printers at least one of the parents. They actually use pigment based Black for the document printing and then they used die based inc all in the same printer for the color print printing thinking that the basing gives them really vibrant photographs really pretty colors but yet that pigment based ink is much better for you know that black that solid chris black document printing so you can get combinations there of to now some folks believe in you know. I think there's data to back this up that pigment based inks they last a little bit longer your prints that could be true to some degree but these technologies are evolving and dye based inks have changed the lottery last few years and i wouldn't decide which printer to go with.
