Professor Ruth Wisse Explains Why Liberals Are Less 'Pro-Israel' Than Conservatives

"I'm talking to ruth weiss ruth. I'm gonna play the role of eric. You play the role of ruth. You've written this book. Free as jew. You have a background teaching at harvard. you eventually became a conservative. You are pro israel. I think that needs to be said. Why is it. I get the impression that religious jews conservative. Jews are pro israel. Liberal jews tend almost to be pro palestinian or very worried about israel In the way that the harvard faculty was worried about the rotc. Well i mean well the connection you're making is exactly right. I think Why is that. well. I don't put it so much as pro israel that i cannot for the life of me understand how any decent human being could be anything but pro israel. The great question is why did the arab world Why did the arab league organiz in nineteen forty five against the state of israel. You tell me and why. I have my theories. Well i have many theories. I wrote a book about that too. Actually called jusin power Trying to explain anti semitism. And which i define as the organization of politics against the jews and my sense is that you always have to look at the function of anti semitism. Who does it serve. And what purposes does it serve and it seems very clear that the only glue of the arab league in nineteen forty five was common opposition to the state of israel and that's still in some profound terrifying way. The only actual unifying element on a political level within that terribly disparite and and and really frac fragmented and fractured world. So it plays a very important part among arab and muslim societies and unfortunately lately it has been imported into the united states of america quite successfully and driven home

If the Federal Government Won't Enforce the Law, the States Need to Enforce the Law

"People are saying well. Charlie federal the federal government is in charge of immigration. Law says all those states are able to assist in immigration regulation and enforcement it is the federal government that has the legal power to enforce. Us immigration laws. The us constitution includes a supremacy clause would prevent state laws interfere with immigration enforcement by the federal government. It is so interesting and frustrating that republicans fall for this nonsense. Let's just use a modern example. I'm going to read this again. The constitution includes a supremacy clause with prevents state laws from interfering with immigration enforcement by the federal government. You think that portland and seattle and san francisco and los angeles complied with that under donald trump when they said ice is not allowed in our cities when they declared themselves sanctuary states and sanctuary cities. You remember that remember. When city said we we're going to defy federal immigration law and republicans. Were just like oh yeah. that's okay. They're just a little nuts in seattle and portland. We're going to let them do it. So let me get this straight seattle and portland san francisco chicago new york and philadelphia and say we are not going to implement federal immigration law but texas can't mobilize twenty thousand texas rangers. National guardsmen to go arrest. People that are coming into their state illegally across the board. You see this is one of the problems with the republican party because the republican party is still living in the nineteen eighties. They don't realize that the stakes have been raised and all of a sudden the other side. Yeah they defy federal immigration law. And they did whatever they wanted to do because they pick and choose what laws they wanted to enforce. What i'm saying is if the federal government will not enforce the law and the states need to start enforcing the law

"To visit disneyworld and it was fun. It was nice. We had a good time. It's clair's i believe what second or third time. Second second time that she's been there last time she was to this time. She's just about three and a couple of months and she said she had seen german legitimately said that she had a great time so now as parents we want to refine our process or procedure going into the theme park now and we only really go on two or three rides. I mean okay my whole objective. I think obviously when you're going to a place as big as disney or a place even smaller yet to have a game plan. You want to know what you're doing ahead of time in this particular instance. We went to magic kingdom. Yeah we weren't trying to hop around to the magical parks just the one magical kingdom right. Just just magic. That's it and why it's because you know like you don't wanna be tired out you don't you wanna have a good time. You be relaxed and have easy pace. I'm out yourself going out there so we just decided to you know. Take it easy. Be sensible and you know knowing that we have a kid. All that were lugging around. Essentially she's being logged around. Yeah we we Decided to go with the rented Stroller which proved to be a good idea. believe so having to walk around you know pulling her hand away like from from my hand just one run off to the next ride to exactly what we knew. She wanted to do leading into the parks absolutely. But i mean that's if you don't have your own stroller but if you don't there's option to rent a now good so it's affordable price stroller our goto rides you know for Person such as clear size we went onto the teacups. A we went on Dumble gumbo which was my special requests. Dancing need loves. The deliver data allows dumbo to fly up and down. Go down. that's it that's all he does. Yep yep and We went on the The carousel to experience for me been on. I've never been on the carousel. I always thought it was like. Oh what's all the fuss. It's a carousel. A carousel was os. Good all those classic ryan classic. Of course i had to go into horse that And i had to go on a horse. I had to go on the horse. Those way up there it was like twelve thousand near like. Why is this up here. So that was. That was row number that we were assigned because social distancing down at the park and We were assigned that role and of course clear one something though right there. Which is there was pretty good social distancing happening on the rides themselves. I would say like between right. It was hard because people were everywhere but everybody had their mask on. You know attendance People who work their staff they were essentially enforcing that rule throughout there were hand sanitizers and their announcement saying hey wash your hands frequently. You know so. They did a pretty good job in terms of just keeping that reminder that hey you know we're all going through this together here to have a good time but at the same time. Let's be safe. So i thought that was really good thing about this was. This was the beginning of march and the crowded disney around early. Spring leading into spring. Break is usually. It's usually like crowd and but once spring break comes it's just just like don't don't don't don't go. Just don't go. Don't go to edo to parks. Don't go to universal or disney room because those are those are going to be bad. Remember though like they do require a reservation on top of your ticket so i think they're doing crowd control. Yeah they yeah. They've been do not good long rally to And that as very vital for them to do that because it. It could have been a lot worse. They weren't thinking about actual crowd control. It would have been bad. Everybody would have been on top of each other like probably would share. Share that horse with somebody probably gonna so we've been bad and the weights are in bad not a weights. Were pretty good. There were less than an hour and normally they are an hour or more but so they're pretty good they don't have fast pass by the way. So don't the massport you just to stand in line but again you had to have reservations in a lot of people coming in from out of town coming in from our state. They don't know that battle eight and this is a fair warning. Get a reservation. Because if you don't get a reservation park they tell you you need a reservation. They act you. ask them how to get in. Find out that the policy will you are going to be on fire and not in a good way like would that fortune and you're going to be high anger and the whole park. Come to see you. One fire will not be the happiest place on earth for you but we want to know we add a lot of fun. Claris says she had a lot of fun. Oh and the show. That's what made me a little sad. The little shows that happened in front of the palace or is it a palace. It's a castle in front of the castle. Cinderella's castle were cancelled but they had like basically parade slash still at the parade. They still had the horse. They had like mini shows within parade format. I think the war is still came out and still nothing about disney. I'm sorry that happened as we were leaving the you're number two on the road. Yeah that happened That tends to happen. that's why. Yeah the street cleaner beyond him. I do not want that job but Yeah again and we are. We need to step up. Hit with the title this title. We got this title after second year. Now veterans okay. What happens in your second year. That makes you veteran parent like well. Well you just get over your your urine your sophomore year. You are not a rookie. More which is still learning puttering junior varsity varsity. Yeah well i played baseball. So i'm gonna baseball on weight. Imagine veterans would be like your kid is like graduated and make their often their own. That's a veteran. That's bet sooner or later it's gonna be a free agent when she turns eighteen. I guess when she's eighteen not sooner or later she turned eighteen. Okay later later later later. So what are we now are veteran parents. We can't be veterans veteran. Better parents who have kids. That are older than you'd be a veteran if you have a teenager no no no because we're still trying to get tips from people who have teenagers or people who have pre teens like we're still trying to get tips from them apparent. That doesn't mean tips. That's a veteran. Was still trying to get tips parents who have toddlers exactly undercut your own. I know you undercut a mile. I also agreed what i said. It doesn't make any sense. No no no no no. That's not true. We are veteran parents. We've done this full well now and I forget the point is going to make because we get set off on this tangent. What was i talking about. Oh we need to step up our theme park game though that we need to go on more than three rides. No no no..
