SI Media Podcast
A highlight from The Debut of NFL Sunday Ticket on YouTube
"Welcome everyone to SI Media with Jimmy Traina. I am your host, Jimmy Traina. Thank you so much for listening. Bonus episode, bonus podcast on this Monday after the first Sunday of the NFL season. We had the debut of NFL Sunday Ticket on YouTube. It was on DirecTV for like 25 years. Now it's on YouTube. And Sal Licata, who joins me every week for Train of Thoughts from WFAN in New York and SNY TV in New York, joins me where we share our experiences with Sunday Ticket on YouTube, getting it set up, what we thought of it, full review, full breakdown of everything, what you need to know about it, what their differences are if you have YouTube TV, if you have cable, full breakdown of everything all related to NFL Sunday Ticket on YouTube. That's what this pod is with Sal. It's like a full -blown Train of Thoughts. So listen to Sal and I discuss it, come back later in the week for a regular episode. If you missed any recent episodes, check them out. Last week, Julian Edelman was on. He was great. Just joining Fox had some great Brady and Belichick stories. Charles Barkley was on recently, Peter Schrager, Chris Russo. Check all those pods out. Subscribe to SI Media with Jimmy Traina. And this is one of two episodes this week. All right, let's get to it now with Sal. Full episode here on NFL Sunday Ticket on YouTube. All right here right now on SI Media with Jimmy Traina. Welcome everyone to SI Media with Jimmy Traina. Thanks for listening. Bonus episode this week. This will be one of two. We're taping this on Monday after the first week of the NFL season, the debut of the new Sunday Ticket on Yahoo, on Yahoo. What a dope. On YouTube, on YouTube, I had to get on with Sal and we're just gonna riff about our Sunday Ticket experiences in week one. Sal, how are you? I'm great and I'm excited to have this conversation with you because we've had this many times over the years at dinner, at our houses, whatever, discussing this exact thing. And we both, I know, had great experiences yesterday. So I'm looking forward to talking about it with you. Well, let's start with this. There are many, many train of thought segments on this podcast over the last three months where you said you were not going to get Sunday Ticket. You were not going to get it. You're just focusing on the New York teams. And then I got the text message. Let's see here if I can find the text message. Even, even early, I noticed you were starting to cave a little bit earlier this week. Actually, 9 .34 a .m. on Sunday, I'm still on the fence. And then at 10 .45 a .m., the text came in from Sal. I'm in. It's like Michael Jordan returning to the NBA. I know. I thought about writing to you. I'm back. I was thinking about it as the week went on. I told you, like, because of the lineup with the playing Giants Sunday and the Jets playing Monday, that to me made it worse. Or you were saying, oh, well, you're going to have the national games. Yeah. But knowing that I didn't have to watch those games at that time made it more appealing for me to get the get the Sunday ticket. So I kind of thought I'd be going that way. And then Sunday morning I was like, fuck it. Let me just get this thing in. It's worth the money. Let me see what it's all about. And is it great. So so let me do a little preamble here before we get into it, because I want to say this and let me know if you agree, disagree. But before we even discuss this, I think what we need to establish is this. How you feel about Sunday ticket, whether it's direct TV, YouTube, the changes or it's it's going to depend on how you watch football, number one, and it's going to depend on what services you have. Now, for instance, Sal has direct TV. I have I don't have direct TV. Oh, oh, you have optimum cable. Correct. OK. Optimum cable. You were scamming the direct TV Sunday ticket all these years. That's right. All right. I did have direct TV. Right. And this is an important part of it. I don't want to gloss over it. And then I moved into the city and I was not allowed to get direct TV. So what they did was allow me to stream Sunday tickets. So I have been able to stream Sunday ticket for several years. So whether you have optimum like Sal, I have Verizon, Fios. Some people have direct TV. Some people don't have any cable. They have streaming services. That's a factor in all this. And then the other thing that I think added so much confusion over the last couple of weeks and is early yesterday there's also this huge Sunday ticket is different based on whether you have YouTube TV or you're just using YouTube. Now, Sal and I both have cable, so we're just using YouTube. If you have YouTube TV, the experience is different. So there's a lot of layers to this. It's very convoluted. I'm going to do my best to try to break it down for you now. So the biggest thing is this. If you have YouTube TV, you're good to go with Sunday ticket with your in -market and out -of -market games. You have nothing to worry about. If you don't have YouTube TV, like Sal and I, you're not getting the local market game. So on Sunday here in New York, Steelers, Niners was on Fox at one o 'clock. Browns, Bengals was on CBS at one o 'clock. Those games are not part of our Sunday ticket packages on YouTube. If you have YouTube TV, they were. So if you don't have YouTube TV and you just have YouTube, you have to have more than one television. I think if you want to watch all the games, if you care about one team, you're fine. You really do need to have two TVs because what I did was I had on my big TV, the multi -view with the four games. And on the second TV, I had one of the local games because that's how you have to do it. So, so far I weigh in on what I've said so far. Yes. Okay. Question here. Number one, if I had YouTube TV, do I then get the local games as part of the game mix? Yes. Oh, shit. See, so I may consider then, I don't know if I'm realistically going to do it, but that to me is like the number one thing that's been missing forever on the prior service. And now that I cannot have, because like you, I like to have the game mix and the four box grid, but it automatically takes out whatever local game is on. And I hate that. So here in New York, we could not get a four game multi -view that had either Steelers Niners or Browns Bengals in it on Sunday. Cause those are in market games. So there was no multi -view whether it was four games, three games that had those games in it. If you had YouTube TV, those games were part of the multi -view. So you, so you, so you would consider getting rid of optimum and getting YouTube TV. Well, I didn't know that that was the case. I mean, I probably, truth be told, I'll never be a cord cutter, but if I were to get it in addition, it might be worth it at least just for the season. Now I screwed up because I bought the ticket. Although I guess you have this period now where it's kind of, um, you know, the tree trial period and I can make a decision at the end of the week, but, uh, I'd rather than go back and get the ticket much cheaper if you buy YouTube TV, I think. Right. You know, YouTube TV is like $80 a month. It's like a cable service.

podcast – Lawyers, Guns & Money
A highlight from LGM Podcast: NFC Preview
"This is how, this is how Kellen Clemens ends up playing for 17 years in the NFL. This is the Lawyer's Guns and Money Podcast. All right, well, shall we move on to the NFC now? Absolutely. All right, well, let us talk the NFC East, which is an interesting division in the sense that you have a Cowboys team, which is every year is the year they're about to go back to the Super Bowl, and then it never happens ever, ever, ever. An Eagles team that certainly should be very good. A Giants team that is interesting, I think, and a Washington team I don't believe in at all. But at least Daniel Snyder is not in control anymore. There's probably two wins right there. So projections, and again, for somebody like models always love the Cowboys. Once again, Cowboys 11 wins, Eagles 10, the Giants 6 .4, so models not high on the Giants. I think I understand why, although they certainly could beat that. And actually, the commanders actually have a higher win projection. I scrolled too far. They're actually 7 .6. So the model actually likes the commanders a little bit more than the Giants, which is not absolutely unreasonable, although I don't think that's how most people would pick it. So first of all, this is another case where at the top of the division, I think the model is pretty clearly wrong, and not because I think the Cowboys are, but again, the models do not know who's coaching the team. That's one thing, and is now taking over the play calling. So McCarthy's amazing because it's like three and a half quarters of literally just calling plays from the first screen of Madden. And then when the game's on the line, having your running back direct snap to your punter or some shit, it's not good. And look, the Cowboys are a very talented team. Micah Parsons, probably the best defensive player in football. They've got a great secondary. I think getting rid of Elliott, who they basically had to force feed to justify paying him is actually a plus. Dagg, it's a little hard to say, but there's certainly a substantial fluctuation in performance there, but he's generally good. It's generally a good regular season team. I still like them as much as the Eagles. I mean, I think I heard somewhere that Jalen Hurts was paying like nine to one for MVP. I like that a lot, especially if Mahomes misses a couple of games. I mean, he was legitimately outstanding. And, you know, I guess there's, you know, people may want to see it for another year. I can understand that, but he looks good. Obviously, they have an excellent offensive line, excellent skill talent. Yeah. I mean, the defense will probably regress. And it was a bit of a, you know, the one thing about the Eagles is that it was the defense is a bit of a front runner. You know, like it was very good against bad teams, but it got shredded pretty badly when it had to go up against really elite teams with the exception of, you know, the Niners who were, you know, I think, I think, I think Kyle Shannon actually took 10 steps in that game. But, you know, when they actually had to play a good quarterback, like it's a good defense, don't get me wrong. You know, I don't think they're going to, you know, set any sack records again. But to me, they're clearly the class of the division. They're a better coach than the Cowboys. You know, and I think they're a little more consistent throughout the roster. You know, but obviously those are two really good teams. You know, I think that my guess is that what the model says about the Giants is that they're incredibly lucky to have that record last year so that, you know, they can actually improve a little bit, but given like more normal luck and a tougher schedule can actually win fewer games.

If you missed it, make sure you check it out Peter Schrager three weeks ago Chris may have dog Russo four weeks ago So if you missed any of those check them out in the archive subscribe to SI media with Jimmy Traina and leave a review on Apple we're definitely gonna read those next week All right, Julian Edelman followed by John Oran followed by train of thoughts all right here right now on SI media with Jimmy Traina Alright joining me now Super Bowl champion and now in the media. He's joining Fox's NFL kickoff, which is at 11 a .m. Eastern every Sunday little pregame action Julian Edelman Julian, how's it going? Going well, how are you doing? I'm doing well. I'm doing very well cuz football is here. So it was back Thank God is fully back. I Mean, I wish I wish the trends Kelsey wasn't hurt because I feel like that takes a little bit away from the opening game But it is what it is If you look at it though over the last However, many years the Kansas City Chiefs have been on this run. They've had relatively pretty decent help Throughout their whole thing. I mean they left they lost the left tackle in the Super Bowl That's why they lost against, you know, Brady they couldn't protect Patrick Mahomes but it's it's getting to that time in their Era it where gets hard, you know being a guy that's been on one of those teams a dynasty. They're not there quite yet but uh You know, they're well on their way if they could stay healthy and you would know better than anyone about dynasty So when would you say they're there? How many would they have to win before you say they're a dynasty everyone knows it's three Okay, I don't know what's going on. Everyone keeps on talking like oh This is you you into no, it doesn't matter if you get to the Super Bowl We went to eight straight AFC championships or something like that. Like you got to win three to get to be in Cowboys previous Patriots Niners Steelers It's not two. It's not two So tell me I want to get into your Fox gig and transitioning to meeting that since we're on it It's a good topic because I'm just curious because one of the things I'm looking at is someone who's scouting Over -unders to bet and and you know who's gonna win the AFC and stuff like that The I Motivation shouldn't say the motivation. I mean, I think the motivation is there even if you win But is it difficult or how difficult is it after winning two like they've won? It's very difficult To get geared up every Sunday, you know people don't realize How hard it is once you go out win a Super Bowl Okay, now they have two that when you win that first one you become a target everyone circles you on the schedule You win another one now everyone circling now now Divisions and conferences are designing their teams to beat you. So it gets harder and harder and as an individual player You know Your motivation you have to pull what what's motivating you because natural human instinct you're like You know, we got this we're good and then you know something happens you have injuries here an injury They're a player doesn't sign back because no two teams are the same. It's a new team every year. So it's very hard mentally To keep it going, you know And you have and they have a leader in Patrick Mahomes that can do that We had Tom Brady Tom Brady was always always on he was like he was always motivated So that gives you hope for the Kansas City Chiefs because they have such a great player and Patrick Mahomes who's their leader You know their best player is is their quarterback is their leader and the way he is is huge. Do you think? the intensity to beat the Chiefs to throne the Chiefs is Similar to what you guys experience and I ask you from this standpoint and I hope you don't take offense to this But I feel like I feel like the Chiefs are not hated in any way I'd feel like no one dislikes Mahomes No one dislikes Andy Reid you guys and I think it was mainly because of your success But there were people who didn't like Tom for whatever reason there was the ridiculousness with the flake eight the stupidest thing ever people didn't like Belichick, maybe You guys I don't think we're like Completely beloved whereas KC seems like I don't know who maybe people are sick of Travis Kelsey a little bit Like our teams you think is amped up to beat the Chiefs as they were you guys I Think the games changed the player has changed Just as an overall, I mean we look at games nowadays you got guys over here You know dapping up helping guys back back when we were playing the Jets when I first got in the league Bart Scott was mother -effing Billy O 'Brien on the sideline guys were fighting before, you know, it's just it's kind of changed And it could be for good or could be for bad. That's for weather for everyone else to determine But and also, you know, the Kansas City Chiefs that the Patriots were on it for 20 years Okay, like when I got there they already had three Super Bowls and they were on a little drought, you know But they were still winning, you know, they went 7 16 and oh they you know 14 win seasons they were still putting out big winning seasons for a long a longer time and You know the Chiefs just haven't been there I'm so I'm sure the Chiefs keep on doing well that people are gonna start hating them too, you know, yeah. Yeah The I want to get into some other stuff about the Patriots and and Belichick and Brady and but let's talk about you going to Fox you did inside the NFL. I enjoyed you on there I wrote that a couple times for SI. Now. You're gonna be on the Fox NFL kickoff show. It's remarkable I don't know if you've seen it Maybe you just know it off the top of your head because you friends with all these people but it is remarkable how every patriot is in media now is on TV, you know, you've got the McCordy's Gronk is part of the Fox family. Everyone knows about the Brady situation McGinnis the TV Bruschi It's like if you're on you were part of our Patriot team good love winners. Yeah people love winners Yeah, and they hate them so, you know you get a little bit of both They're either gonna love your hate you but they're gonna watch you It's like you had no choice but to go into TV basically after after all it's it's I don't know it's uh, You know when you play for an organization like New England and You've had the success that we had over the years that we played, you know It opens up a lot of doors and it's plain and simple. That's that's really what it is The the sacrifice and the efforts that we put into our career helped us after our career and a lot of guys you know, they have that hard work mentality that still want to stay in the game, but may not want to be coaches and And that's what media is, you know, that's what I feel. You know, I get my football fix by Going into a pre -production meeting and I haven't done it with Mike Vick or Charles Woodson or Chris and Thomas or Peter Shrager But you get your football locker room kind of vibe when you do those like when I was on inside the NFL I'm sitting there talking with Phil Simms Patrick, uh, you know, Brandon Marshall Michael Irving, Ray Lewis, James Brown and you have these These meetings where you just get to sit and talk football It's before you go on the lights are shining but you sit and you're talking stories You're breaking football down with people that play football So, I think that's a huge probably reason about it and you know, it's not you know We're used to putting in these crazy hours 14 -hour days Seven days a week don't get this year family and media, you know, like you got to do your homework You got to you got to watch all the games, but you know, we can still have a life outside of it, you know These guys are going coach. I mean people always ask me. Why aren't you in coaching and I go You know, I did my time Like I put my my 12 13 14 hour days in and when I would leave work I would see coaches families in the parking lot Seeing the coaches before they would go to bed because they still had another three hours. I ain't doing that Yeah, you know and then if you go somewhere else where it's not like that Then I'm mentally all messed up because well, there's some people that are doing it, you know So it's just I like I'm happy or I'm mad. I'm excited to go out and entertain and talk my knowledge When you were playing and you're playing days towards the end of your career Did you think you would get into TV or did you not think about it while you were playing? I Didn't necessarily think I'd become an analyst and do what I'm doing right now I always enjoyed creating content You know whether it was our YouTube videos our Instagram videos and all the content we build on J around je11 You know that was booming with with the Patriot nation that would always support, you know I always I found a niche in that and and I enjoyed that process of creating content going in and sitting in a you know in a editing room and and Filming up all this stuff and thinking it's gonna be terrible and then cutting it down and then you know having all your other team Because there's a team of people, you know That put put the work in to to get this good content out and I enjoyed it So I didn't know it was gonna be to the extent of what I'm doing right now but I knew you know, I was comfortable in front of a camera and you know, I know I faced for radio, but Thank God I won a lot of games Had it and just tell me were were there other networks like in the running to get your services Was it just Fox like I'd end up at Fox why Fox? Tell me a little bit about joining I want to say any other names there were, you know There was another network that was involved and I sat down and I thought Fox would be perfect You know, I got a couple teammates there with Gronk Brady You know, I'm really excited to get to hang out with you know Charles Woodson and in talk football with Mike Vick and Chris Thompson Peter Schrager and you know Fox is like a If you know the story behind Fox, I mean they were created as This little small sport network with John Madden.

Welcome to the MMQB podcast. I am Matt Verteram, joined by Gilberto Manzano here. It is Thursday, August 24th, and that means we only have one week of preseason football up. We're all thankful for that. Gil, have you finished up your training camp tour? Are you done now, or you still got a few more you gotta hit? Yeah, no, I'm done, and when you said the date, Matt, I actually forgot what date it is today, so that tells me we're two weeks away from the real football season, so I am done with training camp. I don't know about you, Matt, but after like the fifth or sixth stop, I was over it. I saw enough, you know, kind of somewhat real football. I did check out a couple scrimmages, which felt like a little bit of real football, but before that I was like, I'm over the traveling. Let's just get to the Chiefs and the Lions for that. There's a night opener. Yeah, man, I went to eight camps. I saw nine teams because the Lions and the Giants had joined practice when I was up in Allen Park. The day that I woke up in Kansas City, I actually didn't know what city I was in when I woke up. I had like a two -second, I don't know if panic's the same. So, I'm done. I finished on Tuesday. I went up to Green Bay for the last one, which was kind of more of an add -on at the end. I had gone up there for OTAs to do a feature on Jordan Love, and I wanted to go back up there and visit with Matt Lafleur, and it was worth the six -hour round trip. It was a long, long bit of traveling one day, but we made it happen. How many camps did you get to over the course of the summer? I got to, I want to say eight, and I had like you with the extra one with the Saints. The Saints came to Southern California for joint scrimmage with the Chargers, so technically nine teams, but the way I think I did it was, I think it was five states. I drove to Las Vegas and Arizona, and then I flew to San Jose, Seattle, and Denver, and going from Seattle to Denver, that's the one I felt. But yeah, man, I primarily got the West Coast teams. I got, you know, eight teams. The ones that were easy was the ones in my backyard in LA, the Cowboys, the Chargers, and the Rams, but you know, after the, I got on the plane. You know, at one point I started thinking, I don't know how you did it, Matt, because you were driving everything. Me driving to Las Vegas and Arizona, that was too much. I couldn't do any more car rides after that. Yeah, I didn't fly for any of them. I'm based outside of Chicago. You're based in Los Angeles, so you, your teams are more sprawling for you. I mean, you're not driving to Seattle from LA. For me, the longest drive I had was Kansas City, which was like six and a half hours each way. So I did, I did make that happen. But luckily, like Chicago to Indy's not bad. Indy to Cincinnati's a couple hours. You know, it wasn't, wasn't too bad. Look, we're going to get into Trey Lance. We're going to get into, there was an injury at Broncos camp earlier today before us recording with Jerry Jeudy, with what appears to be a hamstring injury. We'll talk about that a little bit. But I, I want to ask you, so the eight teams you saw, or the eight practices you was the most impressive? And was there a team that stood out to you, either good or bad, that you were kind of surprised by? Yeah, it's a tough question, man, because I was thinking that because I got, I got a good balance of really bad teams from Arizona. I saw our guy, Connor Orr, had him at one and 16 for the, for his win -loss record, a story that came out today. So they, they, they looked like they're going to be really bad. And it was tough for me to figure out who's who on that roster. So I got that. And then I got all the really good teams, like the 49ers, you know, I'm high on the Seahawks, you know, that from our doing our, our midsummer prediction, by the way, that was tough. We had to pick our Super Bowl teams in what, like April or May we're going to do it again. And I'm so happy about that, but the Seahawks look good. I like the Cowboys a lot, but every year it's the same thing. Like they get far and they don't get past the second round. So I can't commit to them. Same thing with the Chargers. They just don't go far. Like they're really hyped to have a lot of good players. So I keep going back to the 49ers because they've shown to me to at least get to the Super Bowl, or at least make it to the NFC title game. And then Brock Purdie being healthy. That to me was all I needed to see to say, you know what? I like the Seahawks, but I'm going to leave that bandwagon and go to the 49ers. Do you believe in Purdie? I mean, look, obviously you believe in him enough that you're, you're, you're high in the Niners, but you know, they'll roll with Purdie, which we knew they would, if he was healthy. Lance is the third string guy. And I know you wrote a piece on trail, Lance, we can get to him in a little bit here. The roster's stacked. I don't think anybody questions that. I mean, they have all pros literally in almost every single meeting room. They, they, they have guys everywhere. They have a very good head coach in Kyle Shanahan, but they've been a team that they haven't found their quarterback or at least they haven't proven to have found their quarterback yet. They went to Jimmy Garoppolo. Garoppolo, of course, now with the Raiders, who you saw as well during your tour.

NFL approves emergency 3rd QB after 49ers' injury woes in NFC title game
"NFL teams will be allowed to play an emergency quarterback from the inactive list if the first two are injured during a game. The rule change was approved by league owners and stem from San Francisco's depth chart challenge in the NFC championship game. The emergency activation can only occur after an injury or disqualification, not for a performance related decision or other conduct. The forty-niners had to send Brock purdy back into the NFC title game with an injured elbow after four stringer Josh Johnson suffered a concussion. I'm get them cool ball.

Mark Levin's Coaching Advice to Philadelphia Eagles
"I really like them and he was a gray coach even for them but they pulled the trigger so fast Something about the DNA in the shanahans they really know how to coach and to win That's the one thing that makes me nervous About the forty-niners playing eagles I still think they're going to win That is the eagles but that said what I think doesn't matter I'm impressed with the coach of the eagles too Look I'm impressed with all these codes There's a lot of really good coaches But that said I believe the defensive coach for the defense under China and I believe he was a linebacker for the eagles at one point Now I'm going to say one thing over the air that most of you won't care about but I'm going to say it anything Did the eagles coaching squad You better watch the passing down the middle between the numbers 8 ten 12 15 20 yard passes Your defense is a little weak there And that's where San Francisco hits anyway The passing down the center Got a tighten it up And by giving away any secrets I'm no Stephen a Smith But I am Mark R Levin and I watch these things from time to time

"Slash groups back here on the gold diggers podcasts. Let's get set and do some season-long over unders. I saw these in the athletic. I want to be fair. Did not make up myself Let's get into it. Michelle i one right out of the gate. We'll start with quarterbacks jimmy garoppolo over or under eleven starts this year for the niners. I'm going to go under. And it's because i could see a situation a lot like the dolphins last year that even if jimmy garoppolo in the forty niners are doing well you know. They're they're they're winning games just like ryan fitzpatrick and the dolphins were. I think they're going to want to get in trey lance just like the dolphins i wanted to get into a and i do think we could be seeing situation right now. Where they want to showcase jimmy garoppolo say. Hey you can say healthy. Hey he looks good to trade him before the trade deadline Because right now this offseason he wasn't going to. You're not going to get too much in a trade offer for him because you haven't seen them in a year and teams are interested if a quarterback goes down with season. You're going to get way more draft capital for him since just just since two thousand eighteen. There's actually been nine quarterback selected in the top ten overall picks. All nine of them started nine. Plus games so i think trae lance will see the same thing who actually started the fewest games. He's the only one that started fewer than ten but he still started night So i i. I definitely take the under here and like i said i do think. They ended up trading him before the trade deadline. I'm definitely going to take the under here as well. First of all alone set aside trae. Land jimmy garoppolo has only started more than six games in a season. It one time in his entire career and that was twenty nineteen so regardless of what happens with the backup quarterback. Jimmy garoppolo has not been able to stay healthy for long enough to start eleven games in a season. He hasn't even made it out to the last three september's without getting injured forget about eleven starts to the combination of garoppolos health and the land situation. Means there's no way he'd starts more than eleven gigs. yeah. I'm a hundred percent with you. If i could bet that one hundred percent doing that taken that under jimmy garoppolo and like you said it's going to happen either through injury or even if injury doesn't happen i think they make that change. They gave up way too much draft capital to sit entree lance for full year. What stay on quarterbacks here over undertray lance rushing touchdowns for the season four and a half. I'm going over here. Even if he's not the starter. I think he would hit this four and a half. We saw that last preseason game. They brought him in once. They got near the goal line which they should be doing. And i think even the beginning part of the season if he's not starting he's going to get a few of those rushing touchdowns and then once he is the started. This is an easy over. But i'm very confidently taking the over on four and a half year for lance's rushing touchdowns see. I went the other way. I went under and the reason i think is because one the injury situation. I don't think they're going to give him a lot of carries early. I think they're going to be extra cautious with him. And the other thing is i. Don't think that kyle shanahan does not want risk. And i think that once he eventually does go to lance as the starter. He's not to want to go back. So i think what he's gonna do is he's going to use the threat of trae lance near the goal line more than he actually uses lance. It's kind of like a parent when you're driving in the car with your kids. You're always say you're going to stop the car or turn the car around. You're not really going to do that. You're not gonna inconvenience your whole day because the kids are being annoying in the backseat. But the threat of that sometimes can be more powerful than actually doing it. So i ain't gonna take the under. I think four is actually the number for lands. And i know i'm walking a fine line there because it's four and a half but i'm gonna take the under between kyle not liking risk the lance injuries situation. I i that's my riskiest one i- i- willing to admit yeah and i think it would be silly for shanahan. Tv worried to run his best weapon around the goal line. And you might say. The thread will scare defenses enough. But that's only going to last for so long right once team's learned like oh well he's never gonna take off and run apparently like then they're going to start covering The playmakers in the end zone covering the past. So i don't know that that seems besson's unlikely to me that he you see josh allen you see lamar jackson. You see russel. Wilson the shawn watson like all of these rushing quarterbacks. They get into the end over five times with their legs every year. I i think trae lance will do the the other thing with lance to that. My leads some rushing touchdowns the windows get tighter in the red zone because there's just less space the defense has to defend the trump card for him is like crap. I missed this read now. It's not open anymore. What do i do screw it. I'll just run it like so that could lead to some i. I agree i. it's dangerous. Bet i'm making their. I'm fully willing to admit it Sticking with the rushing yards. Nfl team leader in rushing yards for the season. The forty niners or anybody else so you always take the field. If salva gives you the option to take field you take field and like the raven still exist. Right i understand. Jk dobbins is out for the year. I cannot believe edwards is also now out for the year. They really don't have any running backs. I don't expect libya unbelted. Like get two hundred plus carries this year or devante freeman but someone will do well in the backfield and over the last few seasons they have combined for six thousand. Three hundred sixty seven rushing yards easily. Leads the nfl. The next closest as the tight ends at forty nine hundred rushing yards. That's fourteen hundred fewer than ravens. The ravens are likely going to leave the nfl again. Because lamar jackson still exists in the browns have kevin hunt. they should do plenty. Well get a ton of yards. Derrick henry could out rush the whole forty niners backfield by himself like there's just a lot of teams seattle wants to be a run first team and you have russell wilson's rushing yards. I i would definitely take the field here and you know if you lose that bad then..

"Somehow where he morris can keep this defense being really really good like they were last year last year. They were number one in points and number one in yards. If they can do that and matt stafford is what i don't think he is which is blossoming into an. Mvp type quarterback. Then yeah they. They could easily win. Fourteen fifteen games. I think the niners. If they have great health they could win. Same amount of games so. I think it's going to be a really interesting season. That i think really. What's going to determine it kinda sucks to say but a lot of times when you have really good teams what determines it is who gets the fumbles to bounce right into their hands. That is a much bigger factor than people realize. That's why turnovers or not consistent year to year because the damn football is shaped like a. I don't even know oblong and it goes crazy. I agree like even when you're really good. I've always said the stars have to align for you to make the super bowl and win the super bowl. Even the great teams have to have weird go their way and there's no amount of preparing that you can do for and no mount of coaching and nothing like literally. I think back to the super bowl. Patrick mahomes drops back. Nick bosa strips. Patrick mahomes he. Fumbles the ball if the ball bounces the opposite direction going towards the end zone boasts going to pick it up and score because there's nobody in front of him instead. The ball bounces back. Towards the line of scrimmage. Right back to patrick mahomes. He gets the ball back like both did his job. He won the rep. He got to the quarterback. He stripped the ball. You just can't control which way it's going to go and unfortunately went away from him. And i think that that you know that game is totally different if both get that ball back from an also totally different if the rest of their job all holding. We're can't go on. i didn't mean to take. I'm just saying that's actually quite a big factor. I think back to the early years of the seahawks when they used to with browder. Literally mug recently scrimmage and air the rafts to throw the flag and they wouldn't because they chickens in one a game taken over by penalties. That's literally what it was. They might get one or two fouls called on them for pass interference or illegal touching. But that's it. And if you can handle the receivers. At the line of scrimmage every single play only get a couple of penalties. It's well worth it literally. What they used to do and that means the rest were deciding the games they didn't they thought they weren't by calling it but they were because they weren't calling it and holding is one of those things sometimes there. They're going to call the holding because there's pretty much every play and sometimes they're not and that is a pretty big factor. I have to say always kind of respected. That about the seahawks like they found their way to win. Like this is what we're good at. And they were like. Hey let's see if they'll call flags every play and if they didn't then they got to have this crippling suffocating defense. I was kinda respected that a little bit. I'm not gonna lie. I mean i was always jealous of it of doing this right. Gogi corners like sherman and browner who are huge and can just bully the receivers and dare the nfl to say all right. If you want us to stop you're gonna have the most boring most hated. Nfl game in nfl history. Because there's going to be nonstop. Flax in the nfl won't do it because they are all about. What's best for tv and even if you do something like that. The league may catch up to it the next season and say hey. We're going to crack down on this. And they may change that they literally said that as multiple points of emphasis for the first two years two off seasons after the emerged. And they wouldn't do it. They still wouldn't do it with the seahawks but even if they did you still get away with it for that first year so i kind of understand teams pushing the rules a little bit. But we'll see about that. We're done levin like we're here. it's game week. I'm gonna have my. I don't know about you. But i have my three ages heineken. hot wings haagen-dazs. It's my sunday ritual. I will be planted in front of the television. Defeat will be up. I will have my notebook with my three pens. I have three different color pen. So i take notes for different teams in different colors. And that's it for the next eighteen plus weeks. My sundays are filled. That is wonderful. But i wanna end to this podcast on a rant. You say i never show emotion. You're about to find a one guy that instantly pisses me off every time. He's in the news. And that's part of what pisses me off. Did you see who talked about the seventeenth game. Brett farve that douche. I have no problem. I will call him everything in the book because he's flat out racist. I do not like. I hate a bread far because he played for the rival but then he turned out to be a real racist and he's proven that time and time again so my rant is one you wanted to seventeen game like literally came out like i wish i added seventeenth game when i play. You have the nfl record for interceptions. Shut the hell up. How far did you wanna push record like literally. You have the nfl record for most interceptions. But you're nowhere near the nfl record for most pass attempts so half our. Did you wanna push a very dubious record. That by the way is not likely to ever be broken because interceptions are less and less like progressive pattern of passing has been interceptions or less and less mainly because coaches have learned more and more of the value of not turning the ball over so they don't have tolerance for interceptions. My other thing is stop putting the microphone in front of brett farve. He's not a good person. He's proven that time and time again. He literally took money from the government for covert relief multiple millions when he doesn't have a.

"Is really going to be better than they were last year. I think this is a team. That's looking pretty much like last year's team. Where if they get a couple of lucky breaks. I could see them getting a wildcard. You know they went eight eight last year. I could see them. Getting ten and seven. But i could see them. Also having some bad breaks being six and eleven or something like that you know i don't i don't see the ridiculous upside because kingsbury is going to limit them. I agree and they start out the season against tennessee. That's gonna be just a physical physical game. And they go minnesota jacksonville the rams the forty niners and the browns. That's a rough start to the schedule of your arizona. There's some physical games mixed in there. I think the rams game is obviously going to be tough for niners. It'll be tough. The browns have one of the best rosters in the entire. Nfl like it could get ugly early in arizona. Let's go to los angeles next since we just snuck them in there as well. I think the rams are the favorites to win the division. I've said it. Many times. I think matthew stafford is going to be an absolute monster when you combine him with. Sean mcveigh. that's probably the thing. You and i differ on the most when it comes to the nfc west because you are not a stafford guy. At all. I think their defense will take a couple of steps back. They've lost some starters. They're not as deep. they're not nearly as deep as the forty niners because of the way their team is kind of structured. They have a lot of good top end talent but because of that and how much that costs they don't really have the guys behind it I just think that they're going to be able to make up for those shortcomings offensively. And so i have the rams as the favourite to win the nfc west. Think who's the favorite is a toss up between them and the forty niners which seok fans won't like to hear but we'll get to them in a bit the rams so they're by far the most notes i have because i think there's a part to this the nobody's really looking at because everybody's looking at the rams and going well there attendance six last year and they added matt stafford got a huge upgraded quarterback. So they're going to be ridiculously good while the problem is is that they were an average defense in two thousand nineteen. They brought in a new defensive coordinator and brandon staley. Who was so ridiculously good. That he became the head coach or not san diego. The los angeles chargers they lost him. So how far are they gonna fall back to what they work in two thousand nineteen they were. I think i got seven. Yeah they're seventeenth overall in points allowed defensively and they went all the way to number one was daily. Virtually the same defense you know. They added randy halfway through that. Twenty nineteen season so that is a big change. but it's not enough to leap from seventeenth and points a lot i right. It's not like one. Cornerback was allowing all touchdowns and then they got right. When ramsey that a lot of that is on steely so you gotta look at who replaced him and this is where. I got a laundry list of things because who replaced him. I don't think people have really looked deep enough into brahim morris as a defensive coordinator. Now there's not much to look into because he was actually only coordinator for five games. And then dan quinn got fired and he got promoted up to being the interim head coach for the remainder of the year. But i got. I got to say the five games he did if you look at them. They're really bad. And listen to this so in those five games. He was the defensive coordinator in the first five games. He gave up thirty eight points. The seahawks they average twenty nine on the season he gave up forty to the cowboys. They average twenty five now. They lost deck. They didn't know they still had back in game but they gave up thirty two. The bears thirty to the packers. Twenty three to the panthers overall they gave up thirty two points per game in the eleven games that he was the head coach and a former forty niner. Jeff over was the defensive coordinator catch jeff over. They only gave up twenty three points per game. They improved by almost ten points per game when he stopped being the defensive coordinator. So how good is he really and if he's not a really really really good defense coordinator. There's going to be some serious regression to that defense. Probably to at the least the level that the offense gets better. This is the other weird thing. And i just found this out Listening to john middlekauff. Three now podcast. Remorse is gonna run brandon. Staley's defensive system mcvay wanted to keep it the same because they were so good at it last year but the problem with that is he doesn't have any experience. Coaching brandon the daily system. So instead it's like a it's a weird situation because usually like you bring in a defensive coordinator. He knows the system. He has to then teach it to the players. Well in this situation the players know the system and he's the one that has to learn the new system that that's weird maybe to work. I have no idea. But i it's just not the normal thing that we see. So you're right. I think that there are some some red flags with the rams defense in the cherry on top of all this is yes in the five games that he coached you know they had the seahawks and the packers those two pretty good offenses in the eleven games the jeff rick was the defensive coordinator and gave up more than nine points less per game. They played the saints twice the bucks twice and the chiefs wants so a half the games that he was the defense coordinator. They played the top three offenses in the league. And yet they improved by that much. I think remorse is going to be a disaster. The defensive coordinator so you think that cancels out any bonus they get for matt stafford right and you know. I'm a little lower on that than others so i. I'm not convinced. The rams are better. Where is jeff o'brien coaching. That's.

NFL Picks and Predictions Ahead of Week 1
"About the nfl week. One right around the corner where you been doing. Our nfl picks podcast tomorrow. But is there any sort of early liability that you're already having to move numbers a little bit just based off of where the actions coming in. I've seen a number of small road favorites even non conference road favorites which typically red flag. But i'm having trouble talking myself into some of these dogs as a as a senior trader. Is there something you're keeping your eye on there like an eighty twenty split already that you're you're seeing so you don't like the lions and i do to live not not to win outright but san francisco strikes me as that team the forty niners that is going to ruin everyone's survivor contest. Everyone's three-team teaser. They're just it's too easy. I've been gambling for too long and al and you know as as the guy works behind the book bets like those. It's too easy dangerous showing you. I mean you're talking to guys who are considering the texans one mixture of lawrence and three point road. Favorite team was more than fifteen last year in survivor pool. You have to go those routes if you pick the same stuff everybody else that's gonna pick you're never gonna win. Need those good teams at the end of a chance. Someone all so i don't this respect. Respect the texans. But you know i think basically when you go into week one you know what sides are going to need right. We're going to need the lions to beat parleys. We're going to need bears games interesting. I think that we'll we'll see some decent sharp action that's been driven up. They still have the shawn watson we know. Travelers is gonna be good but peyton manning threw how many picks in his rookie season a little rough. So i don't think that's a slam dunk. Our road road favorite. But yeah i mean you know who are gonna need the near the bears against the rams.

"To twenty five. Keep it clean. Jimmy come this game healthy commodities game with no dumb turnovers and we will be moving on to philadelphia and they get their thing. I'll east so niners are looking to start off two which i think. Most people across the country in media touted. How it's going to start to and that bodes well for the forty niners there. I stay in the east coast because they did it twice in two thousand nineteen But their first trip on the east coast in a season they are in total foreign. Oh so far At least since two thousand nineteen so let's keep it going make it six the now make it six now for three straight years. Go six now. We're no no because they lost the baltimore member bert. That's why i said the first trip. I trip i. The first trouser season of season. I didn't want to count that. But if if we're going to count it then they are. Whoa that be five in one. Because they'd be saints the cia there after their stay so five in one hell make it seven in one. Let's do it and just an odd nugget. I saw today nine hundred eighty one nine hundred eighty four. The forty niners did start on the road at detroit both times in those seasons than our won those games and they also ended up in the bible. I'm here for like kids. You know any type of tin foil hats. I'm here for whatever. Yeah yeah. I'm always you know i'm a baseball guy. So superstitious all the way works for me your washing my baseball fans like what does that come on for various. Do take on the detroit. Lions again you. You are a betting. Niners or minus seven and a half. If you are in fantasy football. I would definitely play dealer. Samuel george. kill jimmy garoppolo where he mustered wherever you got. I'd start them against the detroit. Lions just matter events forty niners defense absolutely robbie goal to. He might miss one but he makes the others overplaying fantasy with kickers now. Yeah i don't know that. I hate that but whatever look i try to look in my lead to see if i could take out the kickers. But it didn't let me you can do that. Just remove kicker replace it with an extra. I'm trying to new app. And i guess that affect us and let me. They didn't know what it is. I got you all right. Well we're out here for donors resigned. Sunday everyone Stay safe enjoy the game. Jumping ahead this week in 1960 cashes clay later known as Muhammad Ali wins the Olympic light heavyweight gold medal in Rome this week in 1984 in his first NFL start, Atlanta's Gerald Riggs rushes for 202 yards. "Terry whether there any particular reasons player seemed drawn to tech. I mean how did they come into this. Meeting what happened was a trump williams introduced to a venture capitalist name reclined. thomas rudy is help navigate. Numerous for athletes Successful in in attack including nba star andrei etc from the golden state warriors. Kind of led out of curiosity to his teammate. All world player steph curry who now is investing in plenty of startups in social media apps and up in the like in the nab rubbed off on them when they recruited kevin durant who had joined the words of years ago and now he's invested in in companies including a tesla post mates his own bencher company. Now where he's had programs on on. Espn plus in alike. So it just kind of like it just seemed like it'd be an overflow and i'm really surprised at that football players here particularly forty niners play in. Silicon valley weren't engaged in that. I think that is like changed with trent game. Ball in one in invest in wearables. Fintech in the like. And he got his teammate. Fred warner involved. And now they've gotten they're kind of like part of their team involved in a maybe looking into investing your money post post during their career because nfl players crews on average about three or four years and so the dot is. "Trey lance in the forty niners have finalized his rookie deal. He signed a four year. Thirty four million dollar contract. That is fully guaranteed. They got the deal done just in time for camps open day. Kyle shanahan said yesterday. There's no open quarterback competition right now. Jimmy garoppolo is the starter and sri lance is his backup. Zach wilson is now the only unsigned first round pick.

"Do you find that in sports media. I know in radio. There's individual shows that are around one sports or at least a local market. You get a local sports channel. They're gonna talk about the bears and the giants and the cardinals. and the forty niners. And maybe the raiders. Even though they're in vegas they kind of bounce around from individual topic but with podcasting feeds you can be more verticalised. You can just have one specific show. I've seen this on the professional level where there is a warrior show sponsored by the athletic core nbc. But i haven't seen it in the collegiate level where there is the cal bears basketball show by anybody other than the cal athletic program. Maybe it's just because cal. Flex aren't as popular as texas in alabama and florida and some of the other major programs. But are you seeing sort of vertical is shows that are individual sports or school specific. I think there's a huge opportunity there and actually more nuance than what you think. Because college sports people tend to be fans of whatever that our team is playing. Even if they don't know the rules of the game like would we started doing e. sports at the college level. I saw some great tweets from college. Sports fans die hard like tennessee football fans. They're like my team is doing well and east sports. I don't know what that is. But i'm a tennessee band so go volunteers and i think there is as you said kind of across sport affinity but then there are some programs and often it could be the revenue generating sports football basketball but it also could be some of the olympic sports where the fans a lot has been written recently about the fans being very fluid in that. They don't get a lot of game day or meet day content because of the nature of the sport there van said they are used to looking for nontraditional content to keep up with what's happening in gymnastics or field hockey or swimming or rowing. So i think there's opportunity to do exactly what you are talking about in especially because of that community element. I think we talked about that. A couple of episodes ago is that. There's nothing like that college community. College community can be rallied around a specific type. And i think you're onto

"Some in the nineties but almost all of his stats came in the two thousands. He's a borderline hall of famer. You have somebody like fred taylor. Who's a personal favorite of mine underrated. Yeah he's a borderline hall of famer. And i think he had over twelve thousand rushing yards in his career. You don't have him on. He literally almost doubled up. The career rushing yards. Brian westbrook. I i said before the show. And i'll say it on air. Pf is purposely making these tweets. Were they get the top ones correct in the whole bottom. Half of the list is people that don't belong there because they know i'll get a reaction and they're literally click baiting and that pisses me off. Because they shouldn't be doing that they have a better reputation than that but they've suddenly started doing this. Well that's the frustrating thing that the whole point of pro football focus was supposed to be. Hey we're going to go beyond the eye test beyond the bias is beyond that type of thing. Get you better information to make you smarter fan. And yet what they're doing here is just blatantly intellectually dishonest. And i feel like there's two. Pf fs there's the the pf all the ratings and things like that. Which by the way. I still respect i still. I don't think they're the end. All be all but i think there are a really good tool to evaluate players and i love that but the social media. Pf is horrible. Because they just throw out tweets like this and it's just like if you know anything about the sport you know they're full of shit right one running back. I just had to look at the talks. Felt like i was forgetting some people that i would probably personally it. It's a fifty fifty. But somebody like james now You don't edgerrin. James has almost sixteen. Thousand career yards from scrimmage despite the injuries and he has almost one hundred touchdowns to he did a lot in half the career. Edward james was a good player. But you put frank gore with peyton manning railway marvin harrison. I think his numbers. I mean you know. Gore was on those forty nine or teams. It was nothing there was nothing else going on with those forty nine offenses except frank gore and he was still churning out thousand yard seasons. The problem with that argument for me is it opens a pandora's box okay. How many really good running backs out. There were lost on really bad teams and so they don't get to be in this argument only because they're on bad teams. You know what. I mean like me. Start making that argument and you open it up to well. This guy would have done this if he was on a better team. This guy would have done that. You know what i mean. When they finished third all time in rushing they could be part of that argument. That's where i draw the line. Like i get what you're saying. But it's not like gore didn't also produce on those bad teams he he. He's not stephen jackson who had a really good career. Who i think could have been way better. But he was just stuck on those awful rams teams gore's third all time in rushing is he third where my saying fourth. He's thirty sixteen thousand yards. He's a. He's about a little less than eight hundred yards ahead of barry sanders. I don't know why. I'm i've been saying fourth but yeah gore's guess i'm i'm an odd duck because i truly can fully eliminate the fans side of myself But of course one of my all time favorite niners like you know you can see me on video our listeners. Camp right over my shoulder. I have literally like four foot by three foot photo framed. And it's frank gore the biggest photo on my wall. It's frank gore strew like. I'm a big fan. But i'm able to eliminate the fan. Part of me wants to say well if he's on better teams or in to me when you start talking about all time greats. They all put a big numbers in their careers. So i start to value who was truly dominant who who had the higher peaks and that's why i don't have gone on my top. Ten gore's peak is not as high. You can argue. That's because he was on bad teams during his twenties. But i personally look at it and there are guys that had two thousand plus scrimmage yards multiple years in a row and did it three or four times in their career and gore is one year like is one year of fifteen hundred or more rushing yards. I have a hard time saying a guy that only top fifteen hundred yards once is top panel time now you. Hey frank gore that's fine. That's just the difference between the two of us. I like the all time. Best players in franchise history. And you. don't that's fine. That's just how we're different your emotional in your fan and you don't wanna piss off other fans. Oh yeah that's me. i'm the guy that doesn't that that couches his opinions to not make people mad as i've just got all sorts of hate because i said george kittle needs to catch more touchdowns all i can say is you are definitely more a fan and i think there's probably in my opinion. A little bit of homeowners khomeinism. Coming into your opinion here. How dare you. How dare you question my integrity on on this network. You are a huge jerk. All right that's going to do it for this edition of the show. Thanks for listening everybody. If you haven't done it already please. Follow the niners nation podcast network. "Did beat the forty niners last year in week. One when everybody except deebo samuel was healthy. So i don't wanna completely discount them but i don't necessarily think that the addition of jj watt and aj greener going to be this massive upgrade for arizona. I do think their defense is good. I don't think it's going to be pretty. But i'll say that the forty niners are going to win that one which takes us to the bye week. I have san francisco at four and one a new san francisco at three and two is that correct. That is correct week. Six by which. I hate especially now that the season is an extra week long thing. That's the earliest possible by the that teams could have had so. That's not doing the niners. Any favors okay. So we go two weeks six and then the forty niners are home against indianapolis that is also a sunday night football game. There's only one way to look at this game michelle. It's the north dakota state bowl right. It's gotta be carson wentz. It's gotta be against trae lance if trae is not started. he's just has to. I think by rule has to start this game against the only other quarterback in the nfl. That's a starter that came from north dakota state going to say this could very likely be trae lances for start after the bye week. Get them situated. It's a home game. it's a night game. That's pretty stressful for him. If that'd be his first start in. The colts have a pretty solid defense. So it wouldn't be the best match up for him but their offense is very questionable right now. They don't really have too many great wide receivers. They're ty helen's getting old. We'll see what michael pittman becomes paris. Campbell's coming off a torn acl. It's all about stopping. Jonathan taylor right this carson. Wentz get better being with frank reich again. I don't know if you make an improvement. I think he is at least a little bit better than what he was with the eagles last year. I think it's all about stopping jonathan taylor. Can they do it. And then can trae land score on the colts. I do love. I love quarterbacks in their first start because teams don't have film on them yet. You saw nick mullins. He killed the raiders that game because it was his first start. So i'm giving the forty niners a win. And i'm hoping trae lance starts in this game but i do think it'll be a tough one close game. I think the only scary thing about the colts is their defense. I don't love the offense. I think carson wentz will be better but i don't really like any of the weapons in indianapolis there. I do like chris ballard. Excuse me but i do feel like. That's the one area where he kinda needs to step up. The football team is the weapons around. He kind of builds. Out from the line of scrimmage. I really hope it's trae lance mike. Garafolo said that the forty niners are going to start trae lance when he's ready regardless of what jimmy garoppolo is doing and i agree with you michelle. I think that look if you can take five weeks. Plus the bye week trae lance. If he's not going to be ready at that point like when the hell would he be ready. So i completely agree that that could be as i start. I think they like the idea of his first. Start coming at home. I'm sure they probably don't love the fact that it would be prime time on sunday night football. But i mean you can't. You can't worry about that. You took this guy. Third overall in the draft you gave up all those picks to go get him like he's going to have to play in prime time so if you think he's ready just start them and don't look back and i think a lot of it depends on their record right so i had them at three and to maybe see. This is the biggest issue with going in with jimmy garoppolo. If they're at foreign one like you said the team might not want to make that change right. I the older vets on that team. I we're winning jimmy garoppolo. Why would you change this. It's what happened in miami last year ryan. Fitzpatrick was winning and they're really close to the playoffs. They switched to to to also still when games but it felt like the team was very divided. I think that could be the issue here now. Of course if they're at three losses or something like that before the by it'd become a lot easier to switch to lance but obviously that's not something you want to root for as a fan. You wanna win games. That's why i hate this whole thing. I don't like that. There's this cloud over the team. Because they could very well be four. In one and jimmy garoppolo could not really be a big reason for that success kinda like in twenty nineteen when he was just sort of along for the ride but players are going to look and see. Hey he's leading us. Victories like trae lance could. It's possible trae. Lance comes in plays better than jimmy. Garoppolo was playing and the forty niners still lose especially when you consider some of the games on the schedule but yet people will just point to the win loss record. That's why. I don't like having jimmy on the roster. There's a cloud that would hang over the team. You can't try and move in with the new girlfriend when the old girlfriend is still in the apartment. It doesn't work. That is not a tolerable living situation. But hopefully that forty nine years at least from my perspective have made the switch by then lance gets in and against the good defense like the colts trays. Mobility could be a huge asset because the colts can rush the passer. And i don't love jimmy garoppolo facing any sort of pass rush that that would be nice card for the forty niners to be able to play against the colts. I guess i will give them a win as well. I feel like. I'm giving too many windsor homer. It isn't easy schedule but that brings us to the week. Eight game possibly one of my favorite games and the whole schedule because michelle. It could be justin fields against trae lance. the niners are in chicago. This is an early start game for them. Ten am pacific time against the bears. Listen if justin fields and trae lands starting this game. I wish it could be moved to primetime..

"Anne ingraham isn't it. he's second. I believe second or third. It's mike ditka in nineteen sixty one is early. Yes that's how hard it is as a rookie tight end. The guy hit set the record that stood for what now sixty years. i mean. that's crazy but it's hard to be a make tight end. Make that transition. Excuse me josh. Norris of nbc. Sports said it's the hardest position of them all to transition from college to the pros so to me. The eight seventy five is wild but if people wanna draft kyle pits and let me have george kittle like. I'm not gonna complain no for sure. George kittle should be going well ahead a pets. Because even if i'm saying cockpits can hit eight seventy five like it is risky and you know george gidell's hitting that you like beyond that if he stays healthy like that's the biggest thing but if he stays healthy. I mean he's going to destroy that number. So yes and speaking of burke's like brandon uk's rookie season is getting so overshadowed because yeltsin jefferson had just an absolutely amazing rookie season like broke all those records. But that does not defeat why brandon. I did like we should not be just overlooking that. He led all rookies and targets per game. He had the second most receptions per game receiving yards per game just behind justin jefferson. He was one of five rookie wide. Receivers to average five receptions for game since twenty ten and the other four. Were odell beckham. Michael thomas justin jefferson jarvis landry and all of those guys. I ended up having ninety five plus receptions and were selected to the pro bowl in their second season so the first three that i guess we have to see what justin jefferson does because he was just last year as well but odom michael. Thomas jarvis landry all had over ninety five receptions in their second year. I think brandon i. You can be like. I know you're worried. He's the next dante pettis lashing us but not they patterson do close to what you did in your one and i do think he's way more talented coming out of school. I think you have a true superstar here at the wide receiver position. Deebo samuel can be your tough. Do like your juju income bolden but you have a true superstar in brandon. Iu and we're overlooking just because justin jefferson destroyed the season. It's clear to me. That brandon is the more complete wide receiver like brandon. I you can run. The jet sweep plays and running. Plays the deebo. Samuel can can run and he also can run routes and get open deep like so. He's like deebo plus now he's not as physical as depot dude is just. He's just a monster. But i i love the skill. Set that brandon has now never forget. Kyle shanahan's reaction when they drafted him in the first round he was like outwardly like steering and celebrating and this was in a wide receiver class. That was absolutely loaded. When i saw that i was like one kyle was a wide receiver in college. He's an offensive genius as a playcaller clearly knows the position so for him to be that excited. We must have gotten a stud and like you're saying right now. Everything points to him being that good. Yeah we're we're seeing that now the jets. When they took a more he was gone. I in their cell pump the have them and their reviews. Coming out of camp is that he's just been so good and it makes me very excited. Because the morris maya monday i saw that you know how it is coming out of camp like reporters have to give updates and i saw one for the jets and it was basically like i know i say this every time about who flash but it's elijah more again just doing things and i keep thinking of you because i know he was your crush the player that you love more than any other and i kind of like feel for the jets. 'cause i feel like they never have that guy on their team. They're like a running defensive team. That's who the jets have been. Let's get them dynamic playmaker police like i think one every forty years is okay. Yeah and i've been calling a lighter more two point. Oh antonio brown two point. Oh it's going to have now. i'm excited for. That's crazy to me like. Do you realize how good antonio brown was with steelers. That's a lot of expectation to put on a lodge more. Yes i do. I do and i don't expect that immediately but i do think he has the skill set. I'll say obviously for him to actually become antonio brown should be a hall of famer. We'll see if it happens. I mean his whole personal issues might get in the way with that holy allies. You're moore's antonio brown who doesn't go crazy. Yeah that'd be nice. But i agree with what you're saying i'm brandon. I hope that we see you know him get a chance to produce what we think he can do. Because i feel like he more than anybody else on offense was held back by just the disaster of a situation at quarterback. I feel like if he had any sort of consistency there. He would have flashlight. Justin jefferson maybe not to that extent but he would have thrust himself into the conversation on the national stage. Yeah and the fact that he had this top five rookie season with nick. Mullins and cj beathard like the sky's the limit with the state. I really think you so good. There's so many great pieces on your offense because they were just kind of throwing deebo samuel to the side but he is an awesome offense of weapon like you want him on your offense. I don't want him a fantasy but that doesn't mean he's not great for nfl team and then where he moster. Who missed eight games last year. Like he's so good when he's action the he opens up everything to he can. He is a guy who can get a massive chunk. Play for you. And that's not normal for the forty niners. You need him on the field. He's averaging five point four yards per carry since twenty nineteen. That leads the nfl. For guys. i have over one hundred fifty carries since twenty nineteen That's a lotta guys. And he leads the nfl in yards per carry like. He's so good he's also just a player. I mean this is the theme of the podcast. Stay healthy and that's why they drafted trae sermon. And i 'cause i feel like kyle just if you looked at kyle shanahan last year. He aged in dog years like it was he did rent you like it. Just took it out of them. All sunny started growing. The beard appeared started growing in like all grey. It was just an absolute gut punch for him last year. And i think his message to john lynch and everybody in that organization was like this can not happen to us again. He even said the injuries hit us before cova. Did they've built in redundancies in the entire roster. You mentioned it quarterback now running back you look. They have traced sermon and they drafted ally mitchell and they brought in wayne gaughman. You look at the offensive line. They drafted two guards on the offensive line to really try and shore up the interior of the line. They're they're bringing in defensive lineman like crazy like they have the debt that defensive line that is going to serve them so well this year as they try to keep everybody fresh and rotated. They basically have redundancies. Built in an injury insurance so to speak built in on almost every position except for linebacker and secondary but other than that they are doing everything they can to try and avoid just the absolute train wreck that was last year. Yeah and you're so right. Shanahan looked so rough at the end of that season. Like if you look at a picture of him before he became the forty niners head coach. After it's like it's only been forty years dude like what happened to you. He's aging like a president. Yeah he really is horman format because he's a cute guy but yeah it's the his face just looks like sunken in mike just so tired all right so the now you mentioned that. He's a cute guy so now i have to ask who is the best looking. Nfl head coaches. it cooked kingsbury. Yeah it has to be single. Because i know a lot of women think he is like devastatingly. Good looking he seems like alright a fine looking human. But i don't think he's like he's jimmy. Garoppolo say no. I don't think i wouldn't look at him. Oh god he's so hot but if when you're being compared to other nfl coaches. It's not very hard like there's not very many great. Nfl looking head coaches yeah. Jimmy garoppolo is a special human being. That's for sure it's very handsome. Elise off the football field. All right. let's take a break. Because i know there's something about the defense that you wanna bring up and i don't want a slight the d the obviously very important so we'll take a quick break and we'll do that when we come back..

"There are just kinda in a bad situation to be able to do that last year. I mean you had moster deebo. Samuel and george kittle eight plus games. Like when you're missing those three key components of your offense in you're relying on just a rookie. Who was amazing brandon. I you it becomes harder to be successful so kinda. Give them a break there. But we're seeing this trend since twenty seventeen so it's not like it was just last year the point to is like. Hey man if if depot goes down. I'm okay if i got my other guys like i'll be fine. Just don't take away everyone from me all at once like that has to be the frustrating part from him. It's like if i could just get one guy to stay healthy for any extended period of time. We'll be okay. I mean. Look at richie james. In that game against the packers he was the only guy the forty nine hundred and he had like one hundred sixty yards or something like that like kylie. Just give me one guy here l. I think he had like twenty targets that game. He was the dfs angel darling. That week there was one more point that you wanted to make about the forty nine years offense michelle before we take our break and get to some of the defensive things on what was the last nugget that you found offense for the niners he is. I just think it's not even so much unagi. I wanted to just bring up. How we are not appreciating two players enough. And it's george kittle and brandon. I i know i know. People love george getaway or not appreciating the greatness that they are because they're being overshadowed by two other guys right. Like george kittle. Gets overshadowed by travis kelsey travis kelsey so fantastic. And he's on the you know he's on the chiefs and they just keep winning with homes. But kittle is so stinking. Good is the. Here's a second most receiving yards per game in his career. Out of all tight ends in. Nfl history. And the only one that has more is travis kelsey. And that's why he's being overshadowed its travis kelsey at seventy one receiving yards per game in his career. And then george kittle at sixty seven and a half like he's right there behind him rob gronkowski's after george kittle and in kellen winslow senior hall of famer is ripe of right below rob gronkowski. It's like what george kittle has done in. His career is absolutely absurd. And we're not giving him the love. He deserves an obviously when he missed his eight games. Your offense is not going to be the same. like george. kittle is the most important part of your offense. I don't think it's the quarterback. It's trae land jimmy garoppolo find. Gimme one of them. But if george gidell's not in that game you're not going to be as good. You need him there any He's going for the record to have the most receiving yards by tight. Unin his first five. Nfl seasons in nfl history. All he needs is eleven hundred and seventy four receiving yards any Surpasses jimmy graham for the most in the first five years. He's gonna get it if he stays healthy right like it's what he always does. He is so stinking good and people need appreciate him a little bit more in the forty niners you to make sure that he is healthy all season long. It's funny because a lot of people said that about tiger woods like tigers so good and he's winning so many tournaments that we're not realizing how good the other people are that he's playing against like you know phil mickelson would have more major wins. If tiger woods wasn't damn near winning everything but tigers there and he keeps winning. So it's sort of skews view of that. The thing with kittle to like if you were to compare him to kelsey. I would say look. Chelsea's had patrick mahomes throwing the ball like the most talented quarterback of his generation. Yeah he's gonna put up good numbers. George kittle set. The single season receiving yards record by a tight. End without jimmy garoppolo with nick mullins and bag of cats like he's been putting up his numbers with terrible quarterback play so that makes it even more impressive. I just want to see. George kittle score touchdowns like you can't be as good as he is and not score more than five touchdowns in any season in your career. Yeah i do like i. I think this is the year we see him. Up and touchdowns is long as trae lines is playing the opens up the entire offense around the goal line. But like like you just brought up. He's been doing this with all different quarterbacks and mostly terrible ones and when you're looking like when you're comparing what he's done he compares to the best wide receivers and the nfl not just tight ends. It's like he's averaging seventy five receiving yards per game in each of the last three seasons. When you're looking at that. That's julio jones has done that deondraye Has done that. He's had the shawn watson. Davante adams has done at three years in a row. He has aaron rodgers. And then travis kelce he's the only other one and he has patrick mahomes over the last three season. So it's coolio hopkins kittle adams and kelsey. Those are the only players who have averaged seventy five receiving yards per game the last three seasons. That's amazing list and to be a tight on on that list with quarterbacks he's been playing with he's being overlooked of how great he truly. Well they really need him to be that great and shine now. Because he's on the big contract and i keep saying over and over again. You need your guys that play on those big contract to show up and be a plus players because it's a salary cap league and so by definition the more resources you give to them the less you have to give to anybody else so those guys have to produce for you. That's why i agree with what you're saying. And i really hope we do see a twelve thirteen fourteen hundred yard seized from kittle and i want to see double digit like yeah. It's a really good year. I get that it's a lot to ask but the money is for to quote Don draper i and i think he'll get it they target him. They need to use him In the red zone in the end zone i do think he has obviously. He's well good enough to like they should be targeting him. I think once to whole offense opens up george kittle. We'll be the man. I'm drafting him. In fantasy football. I will have him over everyone's in love with tj. They wanna take him over George kittle and fantasy just because he's the new shiny thing now. Don't be stupid. Take george kittle is so stinking. Good obviously needs to stay on the field but really this last year revealing. Your heat truly missed games. I feel like the big shiny toy tight. End is kyle pits. Everybody thinks kyle pits is gonna. Do you realize the over under for kyle pits on yardage in his rookie. Season is eight hundred. Seventy five if he gets over on that that would be. I think it's the second or third most receiving yards by a tight end in his rookie year of all time like and he gets it. I think he gets it see. I think the expectations for him are way too high like you think he gets it. I do with. Julio jones gone. I really truly think he is a unicorn. I think he's still good. He could play wide receiver. That's how good he is. I think he gets over that. Eight hundred seventy five seventy five at the seventeen game season though too so you get an extra room but i would. I would hit the over on that pretty hard like some good money on. This is totally putting you on the spot but it makes my point so please forgive me. Do you know who has the rookie record for receiving yards by a tight end..

"Welcome to stats. And i'm rob staff and with me as always is michelle maggio. What's up michelle. Hi how are you it's friday. I'm happy my sister's coming into town. I realized that just asked how you were. And then i just took i just answered or you that we're happy that's fine. How are you is not even like you. Don't really care how the other person is anyway. Let's be honest that's completely true. Yeah i hope you're having a terrible day well it. So here's the thing. This is the schedule you reached out to me yesterday. And you said can we start at nine. am on friday rows. like okay. Fine so my schedule is. I have to drop my son off at school and i usually get back to my house at like eight forty five and i know that i need to eat something before we start because i'm a i'm a high energy guy you might have noticed signing some fuel so i'm starting to eat and i'm shoveling food in my mouth to try and finish my breakfast before nine. Am or we have to start and thank god you messaged me and said hey. I need an extra five minutes. I was like bank tastic. I couldn't have been happier. 'cause now i actually had time to digest my food instead of just inhaling it you know i'm always late you know you would have time. I'm always always tell you the time and then like i'm running five to ten minutes late so you know you have extra little space there. I was hoping that you would message me. Because i have noticed the a bit of a trend so thank you. I can't. I can't say anything because last week was on me. We didn't have a show last week. Because i was a little under the weather. And so you might be late. But you show up. And i didn't answer the bell last week. So that's on me. Are you feeling better. That's that's key a little bit. It's weird. I haven't been sick in a year because we've all been inside and then like vaccinated. It's i've kind of started to go out a little bit more and bam sick. I was saying like once. We also are getting colds again. It's going to be so weird and we're going to go. No i feel like even when i get a cold. I'm going to think like. Oh no covert even though. I'm back in aden but then also being around people if they call for something you know we're all gonna look around and go what's going on and it's just a cold. Yeah but i'm i think i'm changed forever now like honestly i. I'm going to be much more aware. Like oh we have to go do this. And there's going to be all those people there like. I'm pretty sure. I'll wear masks during cold and flu season at certain points. If it's like this is it now. There's no going back for me anyway. Yeah and some people are against the whole mass thing. But i wore them all year. We still went to restaurants safely. But i never got a cold. And i'm like you know what if we're am ask. Cut me from getting cold cold knowing it was great. Not having a cold for the last year and a half. Yeah that's sort of what came back to me. It was like you know this this whole and sick thing. It really sucks kinda forget. You really do all right. So we've got a lot on the agenda because for those that don't know michelle was also a researcher for nfl network. As part of your duties there you had to take a deep dive into the forty niners. I was really looking forward to getting into that with you last week. And so now we had delayed a week. So there's no excuses i want. I want you to bring it here. Drop some knowledge on us ally. Absolutely well i love doing these deep dives because you're at the see okay. What what what were the issues. Why did they struggle last year. What can be changed in. What's most interesting is to be like. Do they have the pieces in place for the change happen. And if you're writing these writing about these teams. They didn't put the pieces in place. You're like this kind of stinks. They're probably gonna be just as bad next year. But i think the forty niners have have the pieces to make the changes embiid good so i'm excited to talk about all of that. I'm excited to see. If because obviously i have my observations as to why they've struggled and i want to see the things that i have observed just watching the games match up with what you have dug up in your research. We should get into it then. I before we get into this research. I did like we need to talk about the injuries. Because it's boggling my mind. It's they've files. I mind how one team can be so unlucky like there has to be something wrong within the organization. So that's what everybody has been saying. Now right i feel like the worm has turned and it went from. Oh the forty niners or so unfortunate. What bad luck to have all these injuries. And now i think people are just so pissed off about it that they're looking for someone to blame. They don't like that. It's just circumstance so now it's kyle shanahan fault because its practices there too hard or as john lynch fall for bringing in guys with injury histories like they want. People want someone to blame now and people are not going to give them the injury. Excuse anymore because what they say is it can't just be luck. They must be doing something to cause these. Yeah or is it the field like they have to figure out what it was because you said that they changed the whole staff around For the conditioning and making sure like players are staying healthy so if they change the staff you would think it seemed like the injuries got worse for the new staff right like last year was the worst it could be. You already have three major injuries this year. Now two of the guys were not plan starters anyways but still you don't wanna lose depth it just it's crazy and now they have to cancel many camp. That's not a good thing. Kyle tried to sell it like all we were planning on cancelling it anyway and maybe he was. You can't tell me that the injuries that they've had so far were not a factor in that decision guide. I will never believe that mean jeff. Wilpon got injured standing up out of a chair. Like i don't know if there's a who curse on the forty niners or what but like these are professional. Athletes world trained human beings. Nobody on the planet is in better shape than these guys can't get out of a chair. I can't get out of a chair. Should be able to do it. I is there any other team.

"Decided yet. That's the big question to me. You have thirty five people who haven't out of the ninety. You need twenty two out of that thirty five to decide to do something that they could have already done at this point. I just don't see that happening. And there is an interesting aspect of this that i think could become part of the nfl storyline of the twenty twenty one season. Not just for the forty niners but the nfl. Large the whole reason why we're talking about eighty five percent is because at eighty five percent a bunch of restrictions put on by the league are lifted. You can. You don't have to wear masks around each other. You can have team meetings in your normal conference room where everybody's next to each other rather than through zoom you can basically mingle and hang out a bit more and that makes you closer in. That helps win games in all honesty. And kyle mentioned those things that he would really like to be able to do those things so i wonder if this becomes something that mo- among all. Nfl locker rooms becomes a rift of sorts. Because you're going to have some teams meet the eighty five percent and i think you're probably gonna have a majority of teams not quite meet eighty five percent of the players who did get vaccinated. Sit around the locker room staring these other guys down going. I have to wear those masks. Because of you i have to go home and do a zoom conference rather than being able to sit in the damn team conference room because of you like i think. There is potential for some rifts and locker rooms that have this happen and we do have a precursor to this major league. Baseball is very similar policy. There's eighty percent and you have seen certain players. Gm speak out a little bit one of them being the cubs gm. Jed hoyer actually spoke out and said he's disappointed in his players that they have not met the eighty percent yet and thus they can't do certain things that would give them a competitive advantage. And i think that's going to be the case in the nfl. I think that everything you said is completely logical. I think it naturally will happen like you said 'cause when guys decisions affect other people's lives that's when rifts tend to form it's just it's amazing to me because you would think if there was one team that would be more willing to get vaccinated just to avoid all the extra precautions that you have to take. It would be this team. It would be the team that got kicked out of their city and their stadium and had to go and finish the season at arizona because of covert not arguably was more inconvenience from football operations standpoint last year than the forty niners. So if you had to tell me that. I could pick one team to bet on that was going to reach that threshold. I thought it would bend san francisco. But i guess not and to be honest levin. Getting there no you know. I'll be curious to see. Because i don't think there's definite policy on this. I could be wrong because honestly the nfl hasn't said much about it nor have nfl teams but does it affect travel. You know this past year teams flew in and played pretty much. Same day you know. They flew a day later the normal. They didn't get as much time to adjust to wherever they were going. So i'm wondering if you don't meet the eighty five percent if you still have to follow that policy and thus there is an actual a huge competitive advantage to the teams the do me eighty five percent and can follow a more traditional timeline. I just on twitter. Eleven sam darnold said he's not been vaccinated yet quote. There's a ton of different things that go into it. S somebody on twitter. Charles mcdonnell actually just joined us on the espionage Nfl show. He said what different things go into it. Then josh norris followed that tweet up with can we blame adam gates for this too. I just thought that was a masterful job by everybody involved. And i wanted to point that out. Yeah and that's what we're getting out. I mean this whole. Kobe thing is one of the topics this week in the nfl. Large because montas sweep had about as dumb of a response as you can get. In my opinion he said that he is not vaccinated yet because he's never gotten cova did and until he gets cova he doesn't feel like he needs the vaccine. That's not how it works. It's not a cure. It's a vaccine. it helps prevent you from getting it. It's not a oh. I have covert better. Go get that shot. So i don't die like and the best part was he was asked about that because washington had brought in experts to help educate the players on the vaccine and provide more facts and they asked how that was a month sweets reaction was. I didn't like that at all on his rant about how. He's not getting the vaccine until he gets cool but it's like because then he followed it up by saying because there's not enough facts known about the vaccine like. Yeah that's why the brought the expert in the teach you everything they know like clearly didn't listen if you think the vaccine cure so yeah monta sweat. Here is the full exchange. What did you make of the way. The team is bringing in vaccine experts to encourage people to get vaccinated quote. I'm not a fan of it. I probably won't get vaccinated until i get more facts and all that type of stuff. I'm not a fan of it at all. Which seemingly contradictory because the expert is the one who would have the facts he was asked. What is your hesitation with getting the vaccine quote. I haven't caught cova yet. I don't see me treating. I don't see me treating cove until i actually get covert k. Again as you pointed out that's not how it works. You talked to the coaching staff about the vaccine presentation. obviously they want everybody to be vaccinated to move more freely around the facility and with traveling and all that type of stuff but everybody has their own belief san. They're entitled to their own decision next question. How much has there been discussion in the locker room. Just about all of that. Meaning vaccines quote. We talk about it all the time amongst my peers and that type of stuff. A lot of it is going on today. It's a constant conversation that we are always talking about. I don't understand it that shows that there could be a big rift. Teams are talking about it. The players are talking about it amongst themselves. I mean i talk about work. You know who is talked about. When the vaccines i started rolling out at my workplace and my workplace isn't really affected by whether or not you know people get vaccinated like the nfl. I think there is a very big potential for risk to be caused in certain. You know. I think basically they're talking about it. That means that there's a chance that once the season comes if they keep talking about it that somebody crosses the line and gets mad or loses their temper and goes off on the people who haven't gotten vaccinated and that creates the rift that creates locker room that has to choose sides. Everything goes into the bucket and everything simmers and like john madden called winning the ultimate deodorant and if teams are winning and everything's great. Maybe it doesn't come up when stuff starts to go south. Everything is a factor all the contributing factors bubble up. And i agree with you. I think that at some point it's gonna come out like hey maybe you would have known the damn play if you could have been in the meeting room instead of on zoom because you didn't get vaccinated like i. It's very easy to me that that stuff could happen right. Winning teams probably aren't going to have a rift form. So yeah maybe the cowboys. Ever rift form tokyo specs into murder. The cowboys out of the blue like that. Maybe it's hopefully it's the cowboys. The packers the buccaneers. Let's get rips on all of those teams. What the hell. No i want. Everybody get vaccinated dammit as many people as possible even if it costs the forty niners the super bowl and we'll see we'll see how that plays out but that was basically the news of the day mike mcdaniel also spoke I am going to be honest with you..

"That's what the niners need to do. And kyle is touched on that that this year for the first time they did kinda pay attention injuries and they think the way he phrased his they wanted to bring in guys that they knew they can count on for sixteen games. Injuries happen even if a guy had played ten years fully healthy. There's no guarantees not going to get hurt with you but injury prone is a thing. I don't give a shit what people like you know. People like to bring up medical experts. Who say no. There's really not a you know how much we don't know about the bodies you know. We don't know about human biology like people think we know everything we don't we're scratching the surface on it. We don't know what causes some players to constantly get injured if we did. They would fix that so they don't constantly get injured shows. They don't know but there is a trend that certain players constantly have the same injuries or injuries tied to the same parts of their body constantly leg injuries. Or something along those lines. They are injury prone and i did see a stat that i was trying to pull up while you were talking. That the forty niners draft class. This year i believe played in ninety two percent of their possible college snaps last year. Same thing that the draft class as a whole played over ninety percent of the snaps that they potentially could have played in college so clearly. The niners trying to adjust like they said they're trying to bring in guys that do not get hurt and like you said there's no guarantee of anything but that is all you can do at that point but the other thing kyle said is that you can't get ready to play football without playing football and i just wonder like that's kind of an old school thinking and kyle you know. He grew up in the game. His dad is obviously a very successful coach. Obviously mike shanahan has an old school coach. And i wonder if that mentality has transferred over to kyle. That's a hard thing to admit that that needs to change and maybe it does. And i'm not saying that the forty niners should not football but the idea that the only way to get ready for football is to play football. I'm not sure that that's still holds up in twenty. Twenty one yeah. This is a topic that i'm kind of torn on. Because i do think that a lot of contact leads to injuries but acid. I think that there's something to be said that this is almost like starting pitching in major league baseball. Where the more you baby them. The more often they will get hurt once. It's for real. The more you limit starting pitcher being able to throw a bunch of pitches the less likely he is to be able to throw more pitches without an injury. Pictures back in the day used to throw all the time and they didn't have as many injuries now. They constantly have injuries. Because they never gonna throw more than one hundred pitches. I wonder how much of the contact stuff is that way. And how much isn't and last year was a great example because there wasn't much contact covert and we didn't actually see an uptake injuries. If i'm not mistaken. So i wonder if it's like i've always thought it's like starting pitching but i wonder if i'm wrong and i think last year is something that should be studied in depth and teams should adjust based on what they saw. I don't agree with you on the pitching thing. But kyle did bring that up. He did say you know. Last year we had no off-season because of covert and we lost four people and he said basically it's part of life and that you know that is a true thing also as much as you want to get on kyle. Shanahan him for he needs to change stuff. It's like well last year. They didn't do anything may still lost for people so nothing is definite for sure. The one interesting thing. I that i should say the one interesting thing but one more interesting thing that kyle said was basically if you do nothing. It's a great way to get the guys to week one healthy but it's not the best way to get them through a season healthy and i that i thought was a very strong point like if your goal is to only have your starters ready to go for week one then. Yeah cancel everything but they have to play all season after that and if your goal is to get them to survive that there is a fine line you have to walk between preparing guys to go for the season and also working them too hard and avoiding injuries. Yeah that's why if you went to all thirty two teams all thirty. Two teams would probably have a different amount of contact. That'd be pretty similar. Certain teams would be very similar. But there's a reason why there's a very big differing of opinions amongst head coaches and even team doctors. I would bet if you took a poll. There'd be a different opinions from team doctors on. How much is too much. And how much is too little and that gets back to my original point about the human body. We're only scratching the surface. I think we know a little. I mean the neck bones connected to the backbone. Right and yeah. I didn't say we don't own anything said we're scratching the surface. I mean look at the leaps and bounds of the last fifty years. Both in the medical field overall For illnesses and everything. And just like go like a body building and the differences from like pre arnold post. arnold like. We're still learning how the body works. And what the body reacts to well and with the body doesn't react to well and kyle did say many times at the press conference as much as i played that quote for you instead. It could get him in trouble. He did say they've changed a lot since they started. They changed things every year. They try and balance out like heavy low days versus lighter days. And obviously you try to follow up a heavy day with a lighter day and things like that. So i don't wanna make it seem like he has refusing to change anything. I'm just saying if he could have that one answer back that might haunt him and it doesn't matter if they have the softest program and system of all time levin you know if these injuries keep happening he is going to get blamed on the training. Staff is going to get blamed. You've no. They did change the training staff once already in the kyle shanahan era right and they changed it recently before that too. If i'm not mistaken like i said the only thing that i push back on is to me the issue is more. Yeah maybe bring in default but if you bring in d. ford maybe don't cinquanta alexander or vice versa and richard sherman coming off a major injury. They signed him while he missed significant. Time in forty niners tenure. You know you drafted nick boza who we all knew had injury concerns and that was the big injury can or the big concern of him in the draft. That's just four guys on the defense all brought in around the same time. Maybe don't do all that. Now jimmy we know pretty well is injury prone at this point. He got injured in his Deflate gate stint. He had to start four games. You only started two of them Before tom brady came back because of injury so at this point you have to say his injury prone with injuries also is with the forty niners. You'd have to say most probably pretty injury prone at this point with injuries that he's had crop up. The jury is still out on deebo and because they have had some injuries but they haven't played long enough to know but the point i'm making is merely every single big name that has been brought in in the last couple of years. Had injury concerns. That's why you don't do that with every single one. Sometimes you go get. The reliable guy who's upside might not be quite as high. But he's more reliable more able to be counted on and like i said kyle admitted earlier in this offseason. They have changed their philosophy on that. And they're prioritizing a little bit more guys who they think can be counted on for sixteen games. And that's why going forward. I really wanna keep an eye on those guys that guys that they have brought in since making that change..

"Like who cares. Do whatever you want which. I had the stats. Damn because what one of those two with giants in that game scorched. Who was it snow. There was snow. Gay man it was. It might have been. It's no game. that's why. I never made any sense that they went to miami for like two wednesday or whatever they just practice one time and grumman nope. This is not for me so at this time of year. Real quick ono beckham or reception for twenty yards. Oh killing him. i remember that. That picture a infamous picture on the boat. I could i could see right now. That was re tweeted so many times during that game and they got tours but other than that. It's just vegas go have fun. I mean george kittle. Looked like he was having a good time. I mean shades on tank top party in with well. That'll do it for us. We have so there will be. Oj's as mentioned in minicamp mandatory minicamp that is starts next tuesday june fifteen and then they'll practice on fifteen sixteen and seventeen before pretty much closing. The book. intel training camp starts at the end of july. So cross fingers knock on wood healthy. No injuries mentor many cabinet. If we start to see more positional battles no come to fruition. But i think they will really start to kick things off once. Training camp gets underway here. So we're probably about a month and a half away some some real good action from forty nine but is there anything else that we didn't cover are right now. I think we're good just looking forward to training came s. Really when all this stuff comes to fruition right now they're shorts and they're just kind of running around. You really can't take away anything from this. I was looking at tickets just to come to too many camp next week and i was thinking they're They're in helmets. They're not even pads. Are i don't are they in pads in many camp. I don't think so. i don't think so it. I just wanted to see how they are in the trenches. And how the quarterbacks live bodies around them and then obviously some other battles in positional groups. But it's so tough to get a good read a good gauge when they're just in helmets and as we as we said last time padded helmets. Where was the extent of the story but again. Let's just get out of training camp without having to or training camp. Oh that'd be nice but without getting somebody injured so that'll do it for us. Please is always rate subscribe review. Leave us five stars. Feel free to comment on what you think how drinks what training should be doing in bed of partying in vegas. Whatever it is let us know. My name is capos. "We are back so if you missed. It wasn't the only person who had some weekend shenanigans. The forty niners not the entire team but it seemed like a few of the teammates. Were out at vegas. Having a good time saw. George kittle smiling and up with travis cousy for the record before you even get any further people like to those two against each other for whatever reason because of yeah. It's so obvious. In evident to no matter when whenever they're around each other or whenever they speak in that comes up they kind of play that down but fan fan in advance brain. It'll be like george. George kettles veteran travis calc- so therefore there's no way that those who can get along that's just not part. Yeah you don't have to have these guys against each other but anyway. So george kittle was air. We saw trae sermon. We also saw stray lance freshly turned twenty one time. I don't know if that's his first time out in vegas who knows but that's the first time on legally in. Yes yes in vegas so great to see you know just out and about having a good time not all fans would agree with that however there were some wild wild takes about that Apparently twenty one year old are not allowed to go out in the summer and have a good time because we all know when we were twenty one we all used to stay inside and sit on our couch the entire time and never ever drink or do anything of the case. What do you. What was your initial. Take when you first saw lance in vegas so first thing is the george kittle and Travis kelsey dynamic so how many how many people on the planet can george kittle really relate to write just being a leak tight end One of the most famous. Nfl players one of the best nfl players. There's only a handful of people that he can relate to in terms of the stuff that they go through. And obviously travis kelce just happens to be one of those guys because they play a similar brand of football players somewhere position kinda came up in the same way play for successful teams and so of course. They're good friends. I'm sure on the field they want to just kick each other's ass but off the field in the summer i bet they enjoy hanging around each other. And that's where this whole tight end. University thing popped up from. Yeah i i like that. As long as you're competing on the field. I i don't really care if you hang out with these guys off the field. I don't need some sort of like budding rivalry or hate between these guys. Even though i feel like some fans really thrive off of that so that was my. Take away with kittle and kelsey now under the trae lance thing. I have zero problem with it. I mean like you said when we were on our young twenties. How many times did we go to vegas. How many times we go out during the weekend. I feel like people when it comes to quarterbacks or nfl players just athletes in general. Just think they gotta be like tunnel visioned with the sport and with perfecting their craft yet when it comes to their own regular lives they always look for an outlet in life. Whether that's going out to vegas or taking medications or partying or whatever. The thing is right. I feel like whenever you like to enjoy ourselves. And i think trae lance is doing the same. He's twenty one i. I'm in vegas. We think legally and just let him have a good time. Just go enjoy himself. I think as long as you don't get in any trouble be able to whatever you want so there was some wild takes out there. I just i didn't care. I had a good time. The thing about this is if you didn't see this you would know and you just because you have access to this. That's the only reason. You're acting that way. Who knows how many times tom brady has been. How many times paid manning went out. How many times all these great players have been even when they were so a lot not a lot of people notice but during the season these players go out if people knew that it doesn't always have to beat to that gronkowski level. But what i've known for a while. I don't know if this is a case for a while there. Thursday nights before the game these players are going out and i'm not saying the forty-ninth specifically but around the nfl thursday night is a night to go out. Do they drink. And they are normal human beings they. They're not normal human beings. I will not say that. They are super talented. Not this day because you have hung you get hung over off of a few beers doesn't mean the six five two hundred eighty pound man is going to have the same effect so silly that little video that even show him with a drink in his hand he just walked in and he's walking around. Yeah so it just felt like people took it way too far and immediately everyone was like met justin field studying and i saw picture. I think he was at like a baseball game this week. It's like yeah these guys have fun. They do their own thing. They should be off season and even during the season. If you're like during the week if you're doing something like by all means just just you know. Just don't get into trouble you know. Just don't be a giant distraction. Go goal of your life. Go have fun and i think people forget that these guys are just normal. You know regular human beings. I like to have a good time as well remember the hockey game. I don't know if his last offseason or two off seasons ago where the mcglinchey kitto like all those like a lot of the offense and they were just pounding beers at the game. Those gray awesome and nobody really said anything like that but again. You said double standard quarterback rookie twenty one year old. Because because i guess maybe is it because he hasn't accomplished anything. I don't know it's very bizarre that he shouldn't be allowed to leave the house and do anything and then even make it worse to compound that add on. Hey will because just it. As soon as i saw the fields thing is like oh he's mad at four hundred and that's obvious hundred percent. The only time. I've ever had an issue is. I don't know if you remember but it was a couple of years ago. Giants packers playoff game. The famous boat picture. O b j sterling. Shepard food the miami the week of a playoff game. I thought that was kind of a big deal right. You're flying out of town. You're going somewhere else playoff game. It's that week like that's when you'd expect to just be a little bit more focused but this offseason like june sixth seventh..

"Good man So we are headed into what would be the second week of. Oj's for the forty niners. But before we get into that in some of the other talking points we're gonna do some housekeeping at the top so ronald blair signed with the new york jets. He reunites with robert sala. And everybody had you know the quote how you know. He just loves ronald blair and he always has so luck to ronald blair real quick does he make the roster and does he have more than five sacks this year yes i do think that ronnie as robert shaw loves to call them all the time. does make the roster. I saw he switched his number. He's he's rushing in the fifties. Now fifty four. I think he's gonna wear. Why could work for the forty niners. I wonder why. Maybe maybe a linebacker pretty good one. Whereas before. But i think ronald blair change of scenery but reuniting with his defensive coordinator. I think the assistant defensive line coach. Aaron white cotton is also there in new york. So y'all some familiar faces to be around. And i think the jets depth that edge was particularly particularly great one of the draft. So i do think if blair's healthy he will be an impact player for them. This season hoping he's able to give him something because he was productive when he was healthy it feels like a long ways away but in two thousand nineteen when the forty niners at their top were at their peak. They had like eight or nine. Good defensive lineman so they were shuffling guys in and out but even there there guys who are coming off the bench. Were still beating and winning against starters so Hopefully that blair that version of blair returns. I don't know if he does get to that number five sacks just because that's high but bit. I imagine they're just going to be better because carlos but anyway that's enough about rani blair again best of luck. Hopefully he balls out stays healthy all that good stuff might garafolo of. Nfl network reported that the forty niners are working out with a familiar face tied in the laney walker delanie walker did not play in twenty twenty after he opted out. How many snaps has he played. During the last three seasons. Gosh so colin i were going through his stats page before we hit record. Just to see what delaney walkers done these past three seasons. He has played two hundred thirty snaps. In the last three seasons he played thirty nine and two thousand eighteen hundred and ninety three in two thousand nineteen zero in two thousand twenty. So you know half glass glass half full probably to be fresh because he just hasn't played much glass half empty. He hasn't stayed on the field for health issues and he was a covert opt out and he's going to be thirty seven. The season starts. So yeah you know. Two sides of the coin. You can look at it any way you want. Yeah which version of delaney walker. Are you going to remember more than likely if you're listening to this. It'll be all the great memories that you know when he was in the bay. It was the forty niners music-making catches down the field so yeah super athlete. Who knows what he has left in on one hand. You know he might. He might benefit from having a year off from his body but then on the other hand does his athletic skills managed by not having played and all that good jazz. Who knows who knows what to expect. We know that the forty niners are in dire need of finding more help. For george kittle and i imagine part of this would be if you wanna take some workload office plate. This ties into practice as well. Don't want him to be taking. All of the reps. Darren practice especially if you're working with. He's primarily working with the starters and there's gonna be a day where you know. He gets a veterans day. Rest probably even a couple of times throughout the training camp and whatnot. So are you going to feel contra with charlie woerner roswell lining up with Your answer is no. It's probably how we get to Delaney walker so. We'll see if that comes of anything that is not the only pass with the forty niners may add because finally dun dun dun yes a wide receiver with the last name. Jones is on the roster so nfl on ross said the forty niners signed wide. Receiver andy jones. Who don receptions for eighty yards in his. nfl career. He has not. He's undrafted free agent in two thousand sixteen. He played with the cowboys. Texans lions and dolphins all of whom have stellar wide receiver core. So i can certainly see how he did not stick with a team like the lions. I mean more than likely. He's just can't buy that and that's just is what it is unless he turns out to be this super wideout that nobody is ever uncovered. But i don. I don't know if there's anything to add to. Andy jones. Unless you have everything just shuffling deckchairs i think can't by someone else to workout someone else to throw balls to. But i do not expect him to make the fifty three man roster or the practice squad all right so june wine is beginning fell. Just because that's a lot of times when you know your when you sign when you make a trade or when you sign a player starting on june two now you can push that money into future years as well so With one happening the forty niners able to add an additional one point one million in cap space thanks to west enrich berg officially retiring. Which kind of takes us to our next point. Who else will the forty niners signing else in the first name. That really comes to mind outside of the joan. Sweepstakes is what happens with richard sherman. So the odds or richard..

"And i'm i'm i'm definitely of the mindset of this thing started now because let's say perfect. A scenario like marinate was playing. I was living in scenario plays great. He's doing his thing. We win the super bowl jimmy. Don't wait he's we give him up next year. Like what happens. In that scenario. You know like. I know ultimately the crosswind Mojo point is. Let's on this new generation. Which lance this new era with trae rants tried it up always exit was started because we i mean. What's the point of writing the only benefit waiting to him and go in. I mean if we win the super bowl with jimmy g. i'll do with them problems. When i so you know i'll be like whatever deal with that Thing about jimmy. M. says he's been on the roster. What for three and a half years basically one healthy year and other two years man was pretty much terrible years like you know we football in a forty niner fans. We look forward to sunday's in two years with jimmy g. by all no week six weeks seven is like this season just isn't fun anymore because we got we gotta look beathard and mullins all the time and so you know i just feel like i don't know how he could be so upset about that like he's only had one health year So it is what it is. Hey like you said be specifically. I think that you know we appreciate for what. Jimmy d did for the franchise but at the same time like you just said j b. It's time to move off a guy if he's not the guy and i think that the only reason jimmy garoppolo should be on this roster come week one is if he's playing the best football of his life you know even better than nineteen which he had some above average games but i need to see a lot more from jimmy g. Before i believe that we should spend that money on jimmy d instead of going out and getting julio and pay him fred and paying boza and that's the thing is like the money is the most important thing right now and whether trays ready or not like we'll find ways to win with trae. There's just so many scenarios we could talk about and the problem is everything you talk about the free nights. It always comes back down to the quarterback no matter what and you know. That's that's where we where we had to talk about today but guys before we go out. I want you to talk about your stuff. Where can people find you working people. Check out your show all that stuff go for. It was youtube dot com slash four nine x three six five. We just started so we got a few episodes on here We own twitter. Four nine six five the i tunes and all that stuff isn't all like i did the little anchor thanks. I don't think it's sync yet. So yeah youtube twitter Yeah man we we out here as.

"Welcome to the niners nation podcasts and jones's in a nine or yet but it's gonna happen soon. I could feel it. I could feel it. There's no way it's not going to happen and don't call me a credible when accountable when it doesn't happen not here with you again. Once again we are talking. Support is football. I got some cool. Guess for you here. Today i got bmx cheat and jv of the forty nine. Three sixty five podcast. How you guys doing today on an going. Brave man. I i like energy then you turned it up a notch. Most definitely man. I'm feeling good. Great apologize to all the viewers for the mask. I'm definitely right now in the airport. I north carolina. Actually just got back from puerto rico Doing some video workout there this weekend but had to stop on the podcast. We had set the date for today. And i wasn't going to miss this. Oh a mess positive energy and good advising glad to be here with me and they've been talking through locker room primarily for the past. I don't even know how long but he helped me get through draft season. So i'm definitely excited to be a part of this. Faulk is finally in make. This thing happen absolutely totally. We'll tell the viewers about your podcast real quick before we start getting a job without about you. Know the niners. Julio jones's hear about it so we started our podcast like two thousand fifteen like during the Like doing right before right before the tomasulo season so we started a podcast. We just we call it a four nine three six five. 'cause we were told we were releasing a pack as every day so you know yes. We didn't for about By over a year and a half like strong basically is busy week. First cousins meaning amaechi. We first cousins. We've been coast ever since childhood so is really just kinda two cousins talking about minor football know definitely a passion of ours obviously In so we did life about a year and a half strong In a you know kinda slip off but we we We back into the draft kind of sparked a new emotion. And he kinda got us back into the things that we've recorded our first podcast last week. Back we just gonna keep it. Keep going totally. I mean that's the thing i think. A lot of people realized you know when the niners basically ran the media for almost a whole freaking week or a week weeks was a month basically like that. Hey this is a really good football team. More people should be talking about it. And i think a lot of people you know wanna hear about what's going on is and i think the best part. Is you know getting a lot of different opinions from a lot of different people. Of course here at the manors nation. Podcast number listen to our show is but yeah listen if different fans different opinions on things. There's so much stuff going on so much talk about you. Know it's not just jimmy garoppolo versus trae lands like twitter. Wants you to believe there's a lot of cool stuff going on and you know we're gonna start with my new favorite topic. I think i tonight is a you know julio jones we're coming up on this this free agency to basically is what they're calling. It seems like a lot of people being like you know. Hey there's a chance of cool stuff could be happening here. And i mean who jones's available. Let's start with you jay if julio jones's there what are you willing to give a forum like i mean. Do you think that that there's a possibility. I think there's a possibility. But what do you do you think. There's a possibility. Julio jones could be a forty niner. i think there's a possibility because shanahan's his with him and Bro you know what i've been. I've been watching a lot of ninety. Four games this season when we won the super bowl. I've been watching a lot of those gains that year What stands out is just how how many good players on the team. I use a stack. And i just feel like at the end of the day. Julio jones is a one of one like there's not there's not julio jones out there like best in the draft coming up there's just best one best generation receiver so i just feel like if you put him on the niners with kit with the most you know with with the run game was shanahan with devote like that is like that's going to take us to a way different level. I don't know what we should give give up to get By just fill. John lynch Want him to be aggressive You know like. I said it's football players talent like that. That's really he's gonna win win. Championships and julio jones like you know like i say one of one type player i am to you know you think about it and the nfc west has really been division of aggressive aggressive football teams the rams trade all these picks jalen ramsey the seahawks trade. All these picks for jamal adams. The forty nine Now first round picks for trae lance. But i think like you know the aggressiveness and the fact that deondraye hopkins is in that division. You still have robert woods feelings. This division probably has some of the best football players in the world. And so you if you have the chance to add a guy. Julio jones to this roster. I mean i just don't see a way you don't do it as long as it's not a first round pick. I don't know about you be polite. I pick might too much for me especially like what team. I want a twenty four first round pick. What do you think man. Yeah i agree with you A first round picks probably two or h but it seems like a lot of teams aren't really offering that right now. Milo thing is like julio is definitely icing on the cake you know he's not somebody who week quote unquote need right now. But at the same time i think he would make things so much more smooth for us just in terms of having depth in a star player at that wide receiver position. I personally feel like the main thing the main thing attracting leo and really any receiver. That's available. I don't know who else. I haven't really done too much. Thinking about what other receivers would be available. I know he traded for emmanuel sanders in the middle of the season two years ago. So that might be a play. You know down the road depending on how the third by receiver is working for us. But i think like the thing will. Julio is like deebo in brandon injury history have extensive injury history but he had some hamstring issues. I believe Arizona state and we already know depots had his issue. So to me the way that depot's been playing for us and doing all the jet sleeps in playing kind of like a hybrid running back style. It would just make me a lot more comfortable if we had a really really solid and obviously julio's more than solid third receiver. Because i feel like we need more so than for having an actual therapist. That's playing you know a bunch of snaps during the games but just have depth at that position in case somebody goes out..
