Race Recap: Running in the Italian Alps

"So trevor. I know people are excited to hear about how your sky marathon went in italy. So tell us what made you want to sign up for this event. When i posted some photos on instagram people were asking. Where's the race recap will here. It is so. I went and did the sued t- role sky marathon in italy. Big thanks to angie. For watching the kids while i went over that we're not always able to travel marathons together these days but i was able to get away for a trip to europe was not to like about that for two whole weeks. Yeah kind of squeezing. A lot actually flew into venice and then stayed there couple of days. Amazing place rented a car and drove up to northern italy. In the trentino alto. A dodgy region of italy up against the alps. It's predominantly german. Speaking actually because east to belong to austria until after world war one so in german suty role which means south t. role because it was part of the tea role region in austria. So it was cool to practice german while i was over there and Of course run a beautiful marathon in a beautiful place so the race took place on august. Twenty eighth it was my eighteenth. Marathon to date is my third marathon in the alps and it was definitely the most challenging. We climbed a of twenty eight hundred meters or over nine thousand feet It was just a constant climb up and down mostly up the race also has a sixty nine k one hundred twenty one k which they didn't have this year for i don't know why they also have a half a trail half but with all the events combined they call it. The most extreme experience in the alps. Wow that saying something. I know especially because i can think of some pretty extreme experiences exactly so tell us about the day. You know the days leading up to the marathon. How you're feeling and what kind of preparations that you had to have going into the race will. My training was tough. Because we don't live elevation so i tried to get as much trail time as i could in just going up and down trail. I think that might have helped my leg

China Bans Under-18s From Playing Online Games for More Than an Hour a Day

"The gaming banned for minors in china. Now obviously it's a little bit more complicated but it's also not entirely unexpected this new law supersedes twenty nine thousand nine rules that allowed ninety minutes per day and forbade playing between ten pm and eight. Am with the justification back then being that well kids shouldn't be playing too many video games and they shouldn't be up late such that will affect their schooling. Which is i mean fair enough. But whether that is the rule of the state or the role of the parent is something that i think a lot of people would disagree about The twentieth nineteen measures also limited minors monthly spending on games to a maximum of fifty seven. Which appears to be unchanged. This new policy also enforces a policy requiring game companies to require players. Real names when logging it. I mean imagine. Imagine having imagine giving up your minor data protection laws in order to make sure that those miners who companies are now by law collecting information from are not playing too many video. Games that's That's an interesting double edged sword right there. The press release on state media said it is indisputable that indulging online games effects normal study life and teens physical and mental health. I could see that young. Chinese gamers are lashing out at the new rules. One objection sexual consent. It fourteen at sixty and you can go to work but you have to be eighteen to play games. This is really a joke. Know good observation as well. I don't think. I could have put it better myself now to be clear. There's nothing that the chinese government can do to prevent minor from playing a single player game completely disconnected from the internet. If there was. I'm sure they would be trying to figure out how to do that. In fact my understanding is that functionality. Like that could end up being baked into game platforms like the chinese version of steam. So that if you are playing a single player offline game Could theoretically be enforced. But my understanding is there's no actual enforcement or attempt to enforce any kind of rule like that. "Newton and mack jones strong showing and the patriots preseason win which capped off bill belichick described as a good week finally felt like cam newton. Joe was able to take a little bit more of a strong hold on the grip of the patriots quarterback competition. He looked good in the start. Eight of nine hundred and three yards finish with one touchdowns. One on one touchdown no interceptions. He played three series before. Mac jones the rookie than took over jones first-round pick from alabama was also quite productive in this outing. Thirteen for nine thousand nine hundred forty six yards over four series. He had no touchdowns and no interceptions so all week long. We were talking about houses quarterback competition going to go in new england. Who's going to separate themselves. How are they gonna look now that they actually get to see some competition during the week in practice with those joints against philadelphia. I was reading earlier in the week. Just about how those practices went and that it was jalen hurts of all people who was standing apart of all the quarterbacks that we saw in philadelphia but now with cam newton and mack jones. This makes this one of the more interesting quarterback battles of the preseason because you have an incumbent in cam newton who was played a lot more seasons of professional football than his counterpart mack jones anecdote always feels like bill ballot checks to give him this final shot to prove himself and so far looks like he's off to a pretty good start.

That would quickly unfold after the official. Us withdrawal tomorrow. The president will speak to the nation again about these evacuations as the administration tries to ramp up the mission. They still lack affirmed. Count of the number of americans in afghanistan. we don't have a precise number and the reason is because we ask americans to register with the us government when they arrive in country and we build the database. Colleges Are Going Big to Incentivize Student Vaccinations

"Colleges are trying to convince their students to get the covert vaccine with all kinds of incentives. Free parking free zip-lining even free tuition. Npr's listen adnia covers higher. Education has been looking into this morning. Good morning before. We start with the incentives. A lot of colleges are also saying. This is non-negotiable right. You have to be vaccinated. That's right more than six hundred colleges are requiring the vaccine for fall and once we get a full. Fda approval on one dot. Number will probably go up. I should just note that colleges have long required vaccine so it's not completely new. A few private colleges have announced fees for students who aren't vaccinated but for the most part schools are trying positive reinforcements with some pretty flashy incentives. One fund one is the college of charleston wants ninety percent of students vaccinated women happens. The school's president is going to sit in a dunk tank and let students take a shot at him. That is only an incentive for a certain type of what else did you find. College is doing well. The big one obviously is that you could win thousands of dollars in tuition costs. So that's happening. A number of places including including purdue where ten vaccinated students could win up to nine thousand dollars which is in state tuition for a year Our interns nee. Dave found around the country students could win football tickets free laptops at west virginia university. They're offering two hundred and fifty dollars gift. Cards to chick-fil-a. That's a lot of chicken but i think for free tuition. At ohio university students could win a photo. Shoot dinner with the men's basketball coach. Or and i love this. One have a drink named after them at an on. Campus coffee shop. Of course campuses are also hosting vaccine clinics at orientation and moving days to make that shot easy.

"Is eighty nine thousand dollars a year eighty nine thousand dollars a year, and that's a scary number. Here's another scary number hospitable. People who turn age sixty five will at some point need long term care. But before we get to the whole issue. One thing you should realize is that well, you're going to need long term care. We reach age sixty five the vast majority of that care takes place at what we're talking about is having a friend or. Child or your spouse help you with some of these activities of daily living. The number of people are actually in homes at any given point in time is a relatively small. But those are the folks who are looking at eighty nine thousand dollars a year. There some big numbers and then. Generally speaking, you put together some guidelines as to who might be able to afford this out of pocket versus those who might consider insurance. There are three different ways to pay long-term care. If you end up to nursing home one you can fall back on, Medicaid and Medicaid pay. Nothing. Stay that means essentially have to deplete you all of your assets before you move into a nursing home. You have to use those assets to pay costs once has pleaded then Medicaid will will step in deep Medicaid pays for about sixty percent of all US nursing home stays. The other end of the wealth spectrum that you have one one million dollars in savings. You can potentially pay out of pocket. This is cold self-funding or self insuring people have to think about insurance MRs. And that's that's the third way you can actually pay people were in the middle. They have some assets. Let's say they have three hundred thousand dollars to a million dollars saved for retirement. They don't want to run through all that money paying for a nursing home. These folks find some form of long term care insurance may make sense. How come insurance is so expensive for can be? It's an interesting question. What's happened with this is the many of the insurance companies misjudged, what was going to occur witnessing home. Use a monkey buying.

"And then i had nine thousand dollars on a car when you get out of school august of two thousand fifteen okay pretty much came out of school and decide to get after the debt yeah pretty much seen as i started getting paychecks that was it i started going crazy with it so what made you decide to go this hard at it rather than just kind of language in it like all your peers and well that sounds miserable but i grew up in a financial peace baby both my parents took financial peace university when i was growing up and i'm pretty certain i have memories of taking a children's version financial peace university class so in my entire family is just a bunch of dave ramsey fan so i just kinda grew up knowing about it you know what i mean i didn't have a chance stuck yeah so you come out of school at one hundred thousand bucks student loan debt you're terrified so panicked it was i was twenty six years old when i first came out and it was looking at that amount of money and just knowing i had to get out from underneath all by myself and there wasn't really anything that i could pay off you know i couldn't just sit like i could sell my car but only get like ten grand for it you know it wasn't going to move the needle at all and i was absolutely panicked that something would happen become disabled my job lose my license something like that and there's no way to pay that off with without being able to do what i do basically so this was impressive done i mean basically fifty five thousand a year for two years living on between one hundred one hundred fifty total coming in so that means you lived on nothing it felt like nothing i kept i kept living like a college student which i which i feel is rare for people who are providers and healthcare but very rare unicorn wow good for you good for you very well done so if someone is in that situation listening i've got one hundred thousand dollars in student loan debt or making one hundred one hundred fifty you did it in two years tell them what to do what should they do how do you do that i think the biggest thing is just keep living like a college student you know it's like i did not live in nice apartments i it's a nice car but it's not an expensive car that i drive in i didn't really buy a whole bunch of close you just gotta keep living cheaply in just just do it while you're still used to that lifestyle because it's going to be that much harder if you try and go by tesla in a house and all that kind of stuff and then try and cut back down after the facts just keep living like a college student when you first get out is the biggest thing so you're not even thirty now i'm twenty nine wow well done rockstar millennial right here by looking at her this is good excellent good job good job so.

"Yeah yeah i'd say that's pretty accurate yeah i mean that's that's amazing so you also referred to this house as a first house and one of the two keys that i kind of come to when it comes to saving money our housing and transportation so you gotta cheap house with eight nine thousand dollars in the first place and you're biking everywhere how did this house impact your financial position was no longer your i you know it was no longer your home when he moved out or von yes so it was it was a great first house and when i i owned it i had a roommate so i paid eighty nine thousand dollars for this house my monthly mortgage was in the five hundreds and i was able to rent out a room for four hundred fifty dollars a month so i was able to cut by us to almost nothing and therefore was able to jumpstart my safe beings even more and so once that happened i was just cruising a lot more savings a lot more savings every month so instead of paying rent liberal with buddies i had been living with a few dudes in town and we're probably paying like you know five hundred fifty bucks a month or something like that piece to rent an apartment and now my housing costs have gone way down after i purchased and had a roommate so i saved and saved and saved and then that savings i put towards the purchase of another house and it was my goal kind of every two years to buy another house and ran out the prior house and so i think for anyone trying to get into real estate investing that's one of the easiest ways to do it because let's say even even if you only have three and a half or five percent cash to put down towards a house if you have a strategy in place where you're not just you're not just doing it and basically basically paying the whole mortgage by yourself if you have a strategy to have a roommate or figure out a way to rent a portion of an out or airbnb room to cut down the cost then then i think it can be worthwhile and so for me it was a goal every.

"No what the interest is you're paying on that nine thousand dollars yeah so that is that like nine percent nine okay well that's not nearly as bad as i was expecting did you consolidate all in on a lower interest rate loan on a low ranges doing it at korea smart okay so you already done that there are people out there probably listening who have similar size of debt but not paying that nine percent interest rate it is something that the fact that you figured out how to put it on a lower interest rate credit card or credit cards plural is a smart thing obviously you have to look at that and see if there are fees attached because sometimes moving large credit card balance to something else to a new card that's low interest or no interests can oftentimes incur fees you have to do the math on that i'm assuming you did you already said you have an accountant so that's fantastic here's the thing you have to do what's right for you but because you're talking to an account in i'm assuming that you asked your account in for advice around this what is your what is your accountants say specifically to do oh he'd he's telling me to pay down on my dad even student loans i think the that it is a smart thing to do that's also a philosophical thing with a student loans um you know carrying some people are not comfortable carrying any debt some people are more comfortable carrying the student loans all of these things will will grow and grow much faster than one might expect that's the problem with debt um so important i would say obviously you were aggressive in paying down your debts initially did you did you do the the method where you just paid off the highest interest rates loans that it's called the avalanche method when you were originally be down smart okay so i would recommend continuing on that method where you pay off aggressively the highest interest rate loans so get rid of that credit card debt now i want to come back to this idea of the business because you can simultaneously do you believe you can simultaneously invest and expand the business at the same.
