US growth in Q4 revised slightly lower to 6.9%

"The government reported Wednesday the U. S. economy ended twenty twenty one by expanding at a healthy six point nine percent annual pace from October through December a slight downgrade from its previous estimates for all of twenty twenty one the nation's gross domestic product which is its total output of goods and services jumped by five point seven percent the fastest calendar year growth since nineteen eighty four in the aftermath of a brutal recession looking at however growth is likely to slow sharply this year particularly in the first three months higher inflation will likely weigh on consumer spending as Americans take a dimmer view of the economy home sales have fallen as the fed is started pushing up borrowing costs leading to a sharp increase in mortgage rates exports may we get as overseas economies are just wrapped it by Russia's invasion of Ukraine I'm Julie Walker

"Number of pedestrian deaths in the U. S. the study by the insurance institute for highway safety suggests those wider pillars that support the roof structure make it harder for drivers to spot people walking near the corner of their vehicle especially if an SUV or truck is turning Consumer Reports also finds high hoods obstruct driver views of pedestrians crossing in front of the vehicles and even away from intersections pickups are eighty percent more likely than cars to hit a pedestrian on the road S. U. V.'s are sixty one percent more likely more than sixty five hundred pedestrians were killed in the U. S. in twenty twenty a jump of fifty nine percent from a decade earlier I'm

Retail sales up 0.3% in February amid higher prices

"American slowed their spending last month as prices for food gasoline toothpaste in just about everything else continue to rise I'm Ben Thomas with a look at the numbers retail sales rose just three tenths of a percent in February the commerce department report shows restaurants actually saw two point five percent jump in business and department stores one point six percent but online sales fell three point seven percent in categories like furniture electronics and general merchandise stores were also down the tepid February increase followed something of a splurge in January when sales rose four point nine percent fueled by wage gains solid hiring and more money in bank accounts but inflation slowed the pace in February with consumer prices running at seven point nine percent over a year ago I'm Ben Thomas

"Consumer inflation has reached a forty year high it jumped seven point nine percent over the past year the sharpest spike since nineteen eighty two the labor department report covers the twelve months ending in February so it does not include the recent oil and gas price hikes following Russia's Ukraine invasion since then average gas prices are up about sixty two cents a gallon before then a combination of high consumer spending pay raises and supply shortages had already sent prices soaring for everything from food to housing and made inflation the top political threat to both president Biden and congressional Democrats before the mid term elections the federal reserve is set to raise interest rates starting next week in a bid to stem the search Sager

"Nine percent that is that a fair think it's was the last summer I saw was roughly ninety eight percent okay so ninety eight percent approval rating of applications that come before the fest why would it be that high the people would normally say and I'm I'm not asking you to answer that I'm saying that the good answer is in exports I am not an attorney but in exports a proceeding before the court when you the American citizen who might be being surveilled there be suspected of something that would open a surveillance warrants against you the assumption would be if you can't be there to defend yourself it's because the department's lawyers are so super scrupulous that if there's any information that might exonerate you or that might counteract the view that led them to first with hearing in the case that had them wanting to surveil you they would say the bar is so high here will always err on the side of privacy and less we believe there's a good reason to pursue this investigation and so Mike Lee has warned me for four and a half years the potential for abuse in this space is terrible and I constantly defended the integrity and the professionalism of the bureau and of the department that you couldn't have something like this happen let's move on from very sore Mike Lee is here I don't want to talk about the conversations that you and Ben Sasse have but I know you're not happy that he had to say that or felt compelled to say crap I was wrong Mike was right this is not good for America Mike at all that's right yeah but you know yesterday was a big day for the American people a big win it was a huge loss for the deep stage you're exactly right I'm not happy that he had to say that he was none the less better late than never we have an acknowledgement of the fact we've got a big big problem by the way Ben Sasse offered to buy me a drink in the same context and use it in like we were a drinking man I I'd love to.

"The products that they were looking at checking out and purchasing are ninety nine percent going to be authentic right what it is when you start moving into that ever expanding world of E. commerce where you're not looking at the product the pictures look great online but is it legitimate and you have to start by looking at what the online vehicle is and and probably first and foremost that would be something like an Amazon right and he's you need to start to investigate the cellar where you're purchasing it from looking at the reviews and looking at where the goods are coming from is that Amazon prime or is it coming from and you can see this on on these pages is it coming from China which is probably not going to be an authentic I yeah you can tell because there's a lot of misspellings you know in their summary of the product I found a pretty disconcerting to hear recent story that they're a fake eye phones out there that look and cost as much as a regular iPhone yeah I would think counterfeit is going to be a whole lot cheaper and that would be one red flag well that was the initial vehicle to get attention for their items where the counterfeiters would put the item out in the market places at a deep discount but because that has become the number one red flag Hey if that place is too good to be true it's too good to be true and that item is most likely not authentic so what the new game is for the counterfeiter is to place the product price a couple percentage points lower than the normal retail price and that's how it looks more authentic more legitimate more realistic as opposed to having that huge discount are we getting better at reading what town or city is in at the same time because I'm curious about the numbers and secondly is this like always where you have the better mousetrap but then there's the better mouse counterfeiters are just much more sophisticated now too well the technology is really enabling the counterfeiter on a number of fronts first and foremost is obviously the ease of implementing an electronics store front on open platforms like Amazon the the second thing is also based on technology which are advanced printing techniques three D. printing laser printing all kinds of different package printing technologies are available to the counterfeiter which make the product even in person look almost identical to a to a legitimate product it's pretty scary stuff for certain for certain products so what would you recommend whether were via shopping at a brick and mortar shopping online what should we be looking for in house we protect ourselves in person if the product should be there then you're probably all right but if you're encountering a high in because medic for example at a discount store at a dollar store that product probably is a legitimate online you really need to look at yes the price point but you need to look at where the seller is shipping from prior reviews is this a brand new store it has a bit how long has it been established for because again these online stores once they're kind of found out to be selling in authentic merchandise they're getting shut down by legal teams by Amazon inspectors itself and they kind of cycle through and create new stores very quickly so look at the heritage of the online sites that you're looking at from Sestak Steve talent thanks so much for the time Steve wonderful to be here yeah make sure the stuff you buy online is the real article and be careful scammers out there is a twenty eight here in colors morning news more news in just a moment.

I didn't do the transaction my friend did so shouldn't he have been charged the two point nine percent instead of me also note we charge the recipient of the money the merchant that's what I'm not a merchant I don't think my friend realize the difference between sending money to a merchant versus sending money to a friend so would you please reverse the transaction so that my friend can re do it and send me the money as a friend and avoid the two point nine percent charge and pay pal said now we cannot reverse the transaction and every manager I spoke with gave the same story nothing we can do about it and have a nice day so my attitude is I didn't know this about pay pal I don't recall this being prominently mentioned on their site when sending money sell my moral of the story for you is if you're going to use PayPal be sure you tell all your friends and family if they are sending you money to be sure they send you the money via friends and family and not paying for an item you know yeah Rick adamant big deal financial adviser just got ripped off.

"Chicago the fifty nine percent completion rate while their season Brady has the worst completion percentage of any quarterback in the league when pressured at just twenty eight percent let's bring in Jim McBride covers the patriots for The Boston Globe and Jim that's come off that first loss to the more Jackson and the ravens how do you expect him to respond today well you know I think it's was it was very telling this week in the locker room that the these plates are very anxious to play you know as much as we enjoyed that those mandatory for days off they really had a bitter taste in their mouth losing their first game to the ravens two weeks ago so they came back pretty focused pretty you know pretty anxious to play and you know even coach Belcher confided that look you know we've had a lot of time off I think you guys are ready to play so I expected to come out and install quickly because when the fall behind early in his last two seasons including against Baltimore when they thought they had everything about that had trouble you know coming back this is definitely a team that like the plague go ahead and I would expect them to come out quickly today Hey Jim this is patriots team that over the years obviously Tom Brady's been the focal point the offense has been the focal point of this team in their runs to Superbowl championships and appearances on super Sunday this year though a little different it's been the defense that saw ruled the roost if you will and the offense is kinda needed to pick up the slack first from the offense standpoint characterize what you've seen this season from the patriots on that side of the ball you know it but they lacked consistency this despite you know being eight one the black consistency of along the office of one of them has been injury related you know they lost David Andrews in training camp to blood clots so he's been out you know and it pretty much everyone except for Joe to any yet at left guard has been injured at some point during the season market Canada time Jack bass at this time and I say when they're there for a tropical year ago is not expected back until next week so you know without those that that continuity it it's really been a struggle to run the ball and you know it in the past you know Brady's been able to set up the run with the pack with by passing but it just hasn't been able to do that this year so you know that injuries have really taken a toll on that and that the revolving door the receiving corps Antonio brown banana no joke flash cord was here for a while now he's out so it was really bad it's really gonna settle with an adult it really been the only guy that was a consistent target you know especially the chronic retiring until they acquired Muhammad to do a couple weeks ago no he really kinda quickly delta self in the contact center and it's been a major player in the last two weeks and I expect that to continue you know another plot line today it is to kill Harry I thank you the first topic so I would expect the blues from that area nice so so on the other side of the ball they're allowing less than eleven points per game through nine at kickoff viewers per game in terms of total yardage less than two fifty what's been the dramatic improvement of this patriots what's been behind it over the last year in their defense you know the communication has been a key and and you know the return to help without a high tower yeah it's huge because he's he's kind of the the pacer on that front seven he sees that the pieces of place another secondary invent you know if they're loaded with not only experience at all really talented guys step Gilmore's probably the best cornerback in the league right now given accorded won a handful of best safety for the week after telling me we we will be playing today but is also another guy that you know I believe the versatile I you know we can we can cover that as that he can play as a like a mini life back on the box so those guys have been you know really the key to this defense being no on a on a record setting pace yeah and then that's going to be huge challenge for Philadelphia team that does not have power or Jeffrey two weapons for Carson Wentz this affiliate team that beat the patriots in Super Bowl fifty two back in the twenty seventeen season Nick Foles was the quarterback back then when you look at this Philadelphia team this year what do you see I see a you know a peanut get like that kind of like the patriots so early on when they have struggled with injuries other secondary coverage of injuries you know tremendous running game but you know with with Jordan how would be an out having to put Darren Sproles on on I. out this week you know it in and they receive a call much like okay because a lot of injured guys all Shawn Jeffrey to shock Jack so I I think what you're going to see is is the tight end's back earth at a Dallas go to be a big part of this game plan today you know the patriots without young they might have trouble matching up with the with the bigger tied at at at I would be surprised to see Steph Gilmore put on a put on a tight and like they did against Travis guilty Nancy championships so you know I think that that the weekly winners of games defense and that's kind of how they beat the the patriots in the civil that one kind of a that one defensive stand late in the game and and could be the difference so I I expect that to be kind of a the way that they shape up today the gym grog covers the New England Patriots for The Boston Globe Jim we appreciate some insight you bet all right Jim a bride is our liberty mutual inside are you have enough things to worry about insurance should not be one of them you can leave worry behind when liberty stands with you liberty mutual insurance I'm Jim battle this is football Sunday countdown on ESPN radio kick up to the patriots and eagles is moments away quick update bell among the early games we mention Jacoby recette returning a for the colts Nick pulls back understand of the Jaguars and it's all in the twenty better thirty three to thirteen how bout that Sean what's "Me to go to the laundry list I am I'd rather and and I but I've heard that song but the yeah he's pretty well rounded artist and been around a long time and yes there are a okay it was not in the eighties when he was writing these sets based on for the most part that would be great yes okay well have you ever heard you're too old for something like I mean you're showing your age here that you're not old enough to remember that but if you ever tell me I'm too old to get on the board behind the boat but I refuse to keep enjoying things as long as you can for sure until you break your knees so may be careful there my friend but for our listeners are you ever too old to do a Roth conversion expert it's lot tells Morning Star that it depends on the reasons you're considering that conversion in not doing it for yourself because the cost remember that's a tax cost of converting giving you a life expectancy as you get older say after seventy and a half the benefit you'll reap in your life expectancy won't be worth the up front cost probably but the real benefit if you're doing it as an older person is for the next generation for your children or grandchildren because the power of the Roth IRA can grow over their life expectancy that does make sense but for the specific reasons that ed slott mentioned I get lots of questions about certainly Roth IRA raise but also Roth IRA conversions but most of the questions person revolve around should I personally convert my IRA or a portion of Meyer way irate over to a Roth IRA so that I can get tax free income in the future and kind of to ed's point there once you get to a certain age and also in the moment your transition to retirement it doesn't often make sense it's it does conversions you have to pay tax on its increasing your taxable income every year that you do it it's a process and frankly the whole idea of the IRA is to let the money grow tax deferred until for a lot of people they're going to take requirement distributions from those portfolios okay and that amounts about three point six five percent when you're seven and a half it does go up over time but those little distributions over time often make more sense in doing big lump sum conversions and increasing your tax bracket unless of course what it was talking about which is you're doing it specifically for estate planning purposes which is your question and then you go let it pass to beneficiaries and continue to grow tax free I I that does make sense here's the one thing I know after doing thousands of financial plans Chris and I and I and I've asked the same question over and over again as we're going to financial planning process I will ask individuals and married couples long term what's your plan do you want to make sure that your beneficiaries get as much as possible when you pass away right and when they receive the benefit from the state or would you just like for them to get whatever's left town ninety nine percent of the time people came in they go Hey I raised them I love I provided for they can have what's left I am not making changes in my lifestyle in order to make sure that they have more at a later date again nine nine percent of time and so I I I pretty much know the answer I'm going to get I still ask it because everyone saw as a no no I wanna make sure did I have less so they have more which is not very common in right but can bring your ire into a Roth IRA in order to pass on the beneficiaries for most people that's pretty far down the road that's the type of planning I think that we might look at doing maybe after a few years of somebody being retired and assets are growing we start to realize listen you've got way more than you're gonna be able to spend throughout your retirement let's start taking a look at being more efficient from state planning purposes okay which is a huge part of what we do we do the state planning we do the tax planning and we do the financial planning but but yeah I agree with that they're in it again it all goes in the financial planning process server is a little bit different but if you'd like to come sit down person of listen to us on the radio right now we have an office very close if you call and we'll find the office closest to you we'll schedule appointment for you to come sit down for the analysis of your current portfolio as well as a comprehensive financial plan and we could do all that for you complementary four zero seven two seven zero one thousand four zero seven two seven zero one thousand and you can find out more to by visiting the parting your nest egg dot com queen of soul with her signature song signature song respect now continue talking a bit about this a state conversation because even though Aretha Franklin's a stake was worth tens of millions of dollars she never had a formal will.

"The chicken soup for the soul offering we're giving you some of the secrets that are in the book on today's show guide you to walk us through the secret so far what else is on the list well let's let's just finish up on the one which cover number five which is the total fees what we're working with is really nice couple from the bay area they called in they listen to us and they said Hey we you know we really want a second opinion we will listen to you guys for a long time we think it's time we know we need help or what about the market we're gonna be retiring here November and we just not we're not sure what to do we get help from one of the big brokerage firms but they're just not sure about things so one of the things we did other than build entire retirement income plan for them was we calculated out their fees we designed a plan for them there are a whole new plan will now have a zero point five eight percent total fee structure which means we're going to reduce the fees on their three point three million by one percent we're gonna reduce their fees by thirty three thousand dollars a year over the next thirty years if they live that long that means you're gonna save nine hundred ninety thousand dollars in fees and that sounds so unrealistic it sounds like you can never happen delivery happens every time we do some type of calculation that we are able to save these this is a lot of these but how many times you run across something like this where we can put in writing and say here so much you can save in fees if you make the right decisions out of the thousands of times that we've done this it probably be a handful of times or we haven't be able to save save them on feet but just very few that means could have a lot of. in cash or not the market right we in ninety nine percent of cases we will say point significant money on fees and when you add that up over a period of ten twenty or thirty years like you just did Dan it's it's it's a huge amount of money and people just don't they don't get it right they don't understand it can Wall Street keep system that consumer blinded by this information well it's what drives Wall Street or the high fees in we show someone literally they can save two hundred fifty thousand five hundred thousand seven hundred eighty thousand even a million dollars in fees their eyes they they almost glazed over and they can't move because they can't almost believe that is a fact the problem is no one's ever given them the fees are paying currently and writing we show them that we give it in writing and then we show them the fees are going to be paying moving Ford right think about how freeing and liberating that is defined they know it and think about it there's only two professions that you really don't know how people are getting compensator how much they get or what your fees are that's when you buy a car and when you do financial such right that's not good that's right and if you go back to the sink when you're talking about if you gonna save them what what was it nine hundred thousand dollars or thirty years we'll look at ten years they're gonna save one third of that three hundred thousand dollars it's like finding you found three hundred thousand dollars on your mattress would that be an awesome feeling well and they got it because they said specifically said what that means is I'm literally going to be able to leave more money to my two sons actually my son and my daughter rather than leave money to my broker by paying too much money. they got it that's right they got it in that is why people I mean they could there's a mass that is put on all of this that our consumers by Wall Street because most sees fees you don't see on your stay but they don't show up the adviser had the ability to check the boxes like seven boxes you can check they may not checking the boxes they may not even show you their fee on your statement but if it's done correctly you should know all the fees every fees not only the visible fees but those invisible fees that your pain you don't see them and that's something we do at our firm if you're interested in us doing if the analysis for your current portfolio all you have to do is to dial pound two fifty on your cell phone say the.

"It's an airline rip sixteen percent retail were shorting nine percent we took we took the profits on Friday we have a long position we purchased a I W. and small mid cat cap stocks destiny tia nice ten percent gain I mean I can go on and on but if you look once you just joined a gang for one month and just pick one of the members stocks that you and do it on paper don't even use any money in this see at the end about how well you're doing and you see our strategy works because our strategy is tied to what the charting the money flow is not tied to this nonsense talk about nonsense listen to this today this is unbelievable journalist is supposed to cover the story see the truth not right the store owner really rich you going to seek the truth boy yeah you you you kidding you tell the truth on fire are you kidding listen to this let me tell you first about the July jobs report report shows growth in jobs most sectors actually so job creation construction manufacturing she said most sectors showed job creation as you pointed out manufacturing and she pointed out construction really Maria there was a hundred and sixty four thousand jobs okay a hundred and thirty three of the hundred is sixty four thousand were bartenders healthcare workers waitresses chamber maids those kind of services hundred thirty three out of one sixty four now she goes and let's talk about her her construction four thousand that's it four thousand against a hundred and thirty three thousand bartenders and waiters four thousand are you kidding me but I mean and and construction I mean the fact is just construction spending but she said that construction spending fell as investments in private construction project tumbled to its lowest level in one and a half years this is amazing but your she's talking about tell the truth she would know the truth if she tripped over it a journalist is supposed to cover the story yeah yeah yeah the media's responsibility is to report the truth how many media outlets are you hearing say we had four plus percent growth for one quarter last year three point one percent growth in the first quarter and two point one percent growth in the second quarter of this year let's be clear we are only seeing positive readings positive you're going towards is negative we're going from four to three to you're going back were you talking about in two thousand and eighteen she's talking about the four percent you know why we had the four percent in two thousand eighteen in the second quarter because they cheated because of the because of the and she knows this because of the terrorist we had a lot of future buying people were buying stuff bringing it in before the cherished one up that's why we grew to four point two percent because people are worried so they bought stuff they normally don't buy that's with boosted up and then the next month it dropped down to three point four in the next month the drop down to two point one that was the last quarter of two thousand and eighteen sure from of four point two the second quarter to three point four two two point one the last court to the eighteen now two thousand nineteen we went from one point three down to one point nine and the consequences are all because of lack of business spending because our CEOs are not spending for new machinery and equipment and especially the big equipment the big door we just got the big durable goods orders come in that's the big stuff nobody spending on the big stuff so what does that do that kills our economic GDP growth because when they're not spending that means that your wages your your job aren't aren't being added and those who are working you're not getting wage increases and by the way they even lie about the wage increases they rigged that which they don't tell you not actually we come back how they read where they say wages are going up when you see how they rate wriggle Hey join my gang eight seven seven six and again we're going to respect you should be too want more information on this show fills gain dot com or give them a call at eight seven seven six hundred.
