"I ended up going six three two nine with pipeline in fact both of I you know that other chad the proverbial other horse of whoever's but In this case beat box the five to one but pipeline pipeline puts the blinkers on. And you know johnny happened. How about johnny Joining the fray. Who does does not ride all that much for jad and i. I thought that that was a you. Know a quizzical or or an interesting sidebar to this That that john velazquez gets involved. So i- i- pipelines gotta look coming into this and It might be another opportunity to get chatted of a square enough price. Absolute courage you mentioned for for shug and stretching out and the course in a part of the story nine furlongs at saratoga continues to be horses on and near the lead that that's a you know an absolute priority You know it. It just seems that the deep closers just don't get there At this distance and up here. And that's been. That's been a long standing scenario. So i i like the fact that absolute courage is probably going to be in the race flow immediately And then on the one other in here that I yeah dirt move. Yep yep and i'm imagining louis. Sayas as Will look to that race. That i am. The law ran in the slop at belmont in june. And you know try to have him. You know that much more forwardly placed it would not it would not stun if the winner out of this the fact that these nice three year because this is a nice group i mean absolute courage was an eight hundred thousand dollar purchase Well not surprise that. Not only is the carlin. And jim dandy gonna produce traverse starters. I won't be surprised if the winner of this if he runs anything you know from fig standpoint Don't be surprised if the winner. This ends up in the travers. Is it eventually nice looking group anytime. cody's.

"Tampa bay derby the next race Take a little sting out of the war and that got away so to speak but Sure you know kind of kind of interesting. I do like tampa as attractive to put foundation into horses. I think it's a track that It it can be demanding. You've got to work to get through that racetrack. And i think it puts a lot of bottom foundation into a horse. The i mentioned it was some strange. Some strange goings on the favourite. Who was taking crazy. Money known agenda in a who also was was being Sort not not rushed because he you know. He had nice foundation as a three year. Old finishing up With the placement in the revson but he was getting in the seasonal debut and so he's starting the season going a mile and a sixteenth. And he just was languishing. This is something. I've seen the tampa and i it. The the sense is that you know it's a surface that that you know some horses just won't put out on Or at least until they get their footing and they get confident and that seems to what had happened with known agenda because once he once he wasn't concerned about slipping and sliding he started a really run and he came way late. Obviously but he did come and make up a good deal of ground and you do see that At at tampa. So todd. We'll have to make a decision. I i'm not sure if you're sending them back for the tampa bay derby or you know if you if you shift years and and look at some other options but I i know people were dumping on him immediately. A little tough to little tough. You know to start your your season going a mile and a sixteenth. You know which actually rich before. Wrap up the other part of what i was going to bring up with you. In addition to the kickback was the nine furlongs. And you know for most of the traditional derby and the and the lead up to the classics we. We don't see nine furlongs at the little bit later. But it is the natural dividing line between authentic route goers horses that were either precocious or are going to be distance challenge classic distance challenged and the as these nine. I bring this up every year as the nine furlong preps hit the table. Be be very cognizant of you know the horses you know j. o. Probably bring this up When he joins us next hour being cognizant of horses that are either closing sprinters. And that's what they're you know. They're the king's bishop. The jerkins will be their goal for mid year. That kind of thing that that happen to us in that withers and keep an eye on this you know. Don't forget that for instance at at fairgrounds You know they shifted the schedule. They shifted the distances. So horses are getting tested. They're on a different scale than than they used to. So three year olds from now going through to the spring. Nine furlongs is not just another half furlong now. I think.

"For For Sadler don't I'm not sure about that distance. But he posted a workout this morning. He'll be one of the favorites in the Hollywood Gold Cup and the nominations will be released this afternoon. There's some time today by the Santa Racing Office so the Hollywood go back. Renamed restored its original name. That never should have been changed absolute card next Saturday. Not only that but the sanity of the Derby the Sanity Okay. The CINEMA STAKES FOR FOR GRAPHS. Three year olds Sprint for three year olds on turf and then a couple of calibrate racing so seven stakes races Next Saturday Danita including the the Hollywood Gold Cup. Well and I'm going to ask you for an opinion on a tough nightcap tomorrow Brad and where you'll landed in the maiden special weight mile and an eighth turf race ninth It does feature an interesting pace play and a Nick Casado home-bred I gotTa love it. Nick the SLAM DUNK team and world. Candy is going to stretch out from a five and a half furlong turf sprint. Try and should be on an isolated lead. Well should be this. I wish I had something intelligent to say about this. I looked at this race for a half hour and really i. I don't I don't know what's going to happen Other than the fact that you're right about world candy He's going to be loose on the lead. It's his first time around two turns he. He's dueled on the lead last time going five and a half and faded and he is an interesting pace play. And you have to love these twirling candies that he's still a relatively young sire and his horses they love the grass and they can't carry their speed. The one my one concern. There's a couple of concerns not only the distance mild one eight on turf. I mentioned earlier. Generally closers hold the advantage at sanity at nine furlongs on grass so world. Can't he's GonNa have to try to carry his speed at a distance? It's not always conducive to that style. And Secondly you Richard Barn. We are accustomed to seeing this guy win at a you know twenty three to twenty five percent rates weakened weak out in and month out but over the last couple well last couple of weeks anyway. the Baltics stable has has has been gone a little chilly. And you know I don't like to get too heavy into these stats Because.

"We're back at the races on her ship tied to her mast the news yesterday. Of course that the Belmont season will start June third and be absolutely littered with stakes action including the nine furlong one million dollar Belmont stakes and BOY MARTIN PADS. A joins us at Martin. The this news was just welcomed with open arms by everybody. Wasn't it yeah? I think everyone is thrilled to be back in action. Obviously it's been a tough two months and we're pleased with governor. Cuomo gave us the okay to get going pretty excited up here in New York it. It has to be said that this was never going to be an idyllic situation. I mean whatever was going to happen and however the Belmont was going to be you know merchandise than package I it was going to be making the best of a difficult scenario including basically a third almost forty percent of purse monies kind of being on hold and having to adjust with that talk about the thought process that you and and David O'Rourke and everybody at Nyra went through to set up the schedule. Well first of all from per standpoint With the casinos not open That's about thirty eight percent of our money For NYRA race tracks and so. We're not quite sure when they're going to be back in action and sold. That obviously is something that we need to contend with. We're.

"Five for long term spring during that he could do absolutely anything but I do like to look for pedigree that we can get this into their going to be an issue you know you don't want anything to sprint T. and I just feel like that's kind of the way the breed is gonna spring teacher order dirt explained the but you look for that sort of thing I do put a lot of stock in the connections you know they'd been down this road before because not to say that that great trainers doing that sort of thing for the first time can't do it by there is sort of a a method to the madness where you need to push the button to the right timing it to get horses to peak when they need to and just strictly from from a race standpoint when you go back and watch replaced I am fascinated and seeing the gallop out I know a lot of people world arrived about it they don't really take too much out of it two year olds especially horses that maybe they're going to have an eighth of a mile early on in the two year old early in their two year old season if they can gal about with some some energy back to me to get that you know what okay maybe they're gonna be able to stretch out a little bit and some of the horses that I loved over the past few years that they may not have been the fastest on paper but I knew right away a horse like opportunity when I watched him gallop out he was never going to win it sticks for long sprint race just because he really wasn't built that way and that was the way he ran he was a horse that wanted to go as long as possible so those are those the kind of thing they think you can clean and then you know as you alluded to you you do need to see some progression early on in the three year old races in and if you don't get it then you know what you you turn the page and you say who's next but that those are the things that I look for is the two year old star to turn over three and again they do need to continue to progress that's kind of what I'm I'm hopeful to see from modern next Saturday it let's let's see you broke through the main right most recently at nine furlongs but the how you handle winners now for the first time going nine prolonged and shipping out of town I'm today's card throughout the country are there are couple horses that you might like they're running now somewhere today yeah we can go to old one for their night cap you get three year old believes that the starter allowing three six furlongs and you know the nine horse on the outside breeze rider for Steve ask you can I think a very likely winner of the race did you find it a little bit curious them both of her lifetime victory thus far coming gate to wire fashion I'm not sure she'll be able to procure the front that easily you're looking for a little bit of a a more appetizing fright it's not a number you can get rich on but a number two machine for Tom aim the shipping in from the fairgrounds in another multiple winner but he too perfect lifetime her first start off with the layoffs at the fairgrounds day after Christmas she went out click the field by three for misty figure standpoint I can keep it relatively well she's not quite as bad the outside runner but she seventy two on the morning line I like the versatility she shown in the two victories one of them was up pushing the pace and then that return after she came from a couple links off of that rally the Finnish quite nicely so I think we mean gene the number two and the ninth race at Oak wanted interesting you can't they need it you know we spoke about the stakes race if you are inclined to look for a another race and another horse that maybe want to throw in there the race prior is a one mile race a starter allowance industry by backing stretching out after made score project Bondi company six and a half to a mile but as speed and that the profile or at a mile extent they need to you need to be for the plate is sourced a little bit late on three figures but there are two portion that came back in one next out of that maiden race most recently on January third so by back ninety two on the morning line and then one last one you're looking for something to play up in San Francisco here this afternoon for you guys to decorate the Golden Gate six for long now what is it to like time twelve five climbers hello before forcing here gone up quite a long layoff Falcone seven to two in the morning line Jonathan long list is the first time gelding major class releases in the lowest level the sources that were banned never tried to synthetic but as one well enough from a number standpoint on turf if you I think there's some sort of correlation between terror consent especially to Peter out Golden Gate how about the four Falcone in the second race this afternoon well you had a couple one is force last time we appreciate you dropping by a today so will catch up with you and toward the end of February or the beginning of March in live even a clear picture of the three year old preparations don't get them get them all right Matt been error leading awful tickle break quick break we'll be back with a blank right and he'll tell us about his try in the risen star next Saturday at the fairgrounds the track was Sam spear on KNBR as the sports leader Goldberg Krueger and rocks it drives me nuts when guys are selfish come playoff time again guys can be selfish in the regular season because it's a career and it's about money and you wanna make as much money as possible and then big productivity is money once you get to the playoffs shut your mouth shut your mouth and go out there with whatever it takes to win crew and rugby team two six K. It's a two year old fair enough fair enough. We're going to actually get tight on time. And I know you WanNa want to get a player to there's there's Frank Angst and Franken for coverage for bloodworks Well definitely talk to frank over the next three days What do you plan this weekend when he got Well I'll lightning round. Pick three that and in the SAM. F Davis I really like flame. Debbie and Santos race. Nine grand motion Just left left with too much to do a wide trip and the DEM oiseaux gets comeback to between or distance here. has some speed and and I like the switch to John Velazquez just looking at the losses on her page seemed like jockeys really never wanted to make a move with her outside all the time she has some speed to us. Here is the shortest distance. So at nine to to blame Debbie in the Sun Coast Also at nine two in the Tampa Bay Hamry for Mike Maker who is Having quite the winter So we'll we'll go with Mike. Yeah Do Alpha got it done two weeks ago. I think embry We'll have some pace of clothes into In the Tampa Bay and then Sam f Davis. We'll see how much they bet independent independent Paul But we also coming out of That New York weekend This one in the male counterparts rhames in Just was never getting shot the way that race unfolded another one. WHO GETS to cut back to Shorter distance from the nine furlongs in December and With the Rail I would look at ten independence hall. Yeah Fair enough And I I was surprised when I sat down and looked at this On Thursday night and a fairly unabashed trauma fan and been friendly with Mike for a long time on and it Kinda rooting here For the source but this is not If there was the consideration or people thought that this was just going to be a set of tomato cans. It's not and now. And then there's the whole Premier Star pace scenario. There's nobody to run with him early period unless somebody is aggressively ridden our our man. Gus Pick so we talked about earlier. Okay he he did my podcast and it was great to finally meet them in person and I mean he made good cases this format and it all comes down to what they had on independence hall. I agree with you when they targeted this race. So you know. I guess it wouldn't be three year old debut but you know basically. The meat of the season starts here and So good five. Residency pairs aspiring restaurateurs with temporary sites

"Today we meet the team behind residency. A new initiative assistive to pay or vacant restaurant spaces with emerging culinary talents launched in London. The new enterprise already looking to go into national with the mission to support young talent and budding entrepreneurs can me. Let's opium of restaurants consultancy districts and sip fork of restaurant experts. Montana Montana fog are co founder of residency. And I met them here at Majoria. Oh studio one to find out. More residents say is an initiative which we have creates it which pass up and coming chef superclubs new concept's any sort of emerging thing and food and beverage or hospitality with vacant spaces basis at the moment across the capital but our ultimate jets viz and beyond and through our combined expertise so it's a residency is a collaboration between between district. which is a property restaurant? consultantcy Montana fog which is a restaurant. Consultancy and through combined expertise we can create pop-ups ups and empty spaces very easily. We have contacts with landlords because district says a property business. A Montana can support the operators on the ground and enable the space for operators to go in and start trading. So how did you find each other. What kind of discussions did you have when this idea was born? Well we've nine furlongs. I have yeah we have. I think we first met when my partner and I were looking to open a restaurant or committed was advising us and thankfully we didn't do the deal not through any issue with Camilla ritual. It was the wrong space the wrong concept at the wrong time which is a restaurant consultant but then we work together on a project for the crown estate and had assault on Heddon street which was ironically the property like you offer done or any love it and synergy edge we and then we came together and they had a site where that essentially the keys are being put through the letterbox in the previous tendency unfortunate made it and they had a site that was fitted the Dow and ready to go and they didn't know what to do with it really they'd been thinking for a long time about how they could launch some finish itself which is something we are seeing from landlords now because if you were wind a few years back when a new site came up with an estate in central London landlords always wanted the latest new concept concept the newest operator and since then has been a few burnt fingers so in terms of pushing brand new concept landlords our little bit more cautious about that mom so they are thinking of ways that they can do that without perhaps taking on a long term risk without of committing so when ten had in st came back to the landlord new I think one of the stories I think sub told me was that they only bought some new carafe when St when and everything else was was there and it's provided a great opportunity to trial the poop concept and so the crown at hired Montana fog and district separately and district in terms of helping helping with some sort of strategic direction but also in terms of doing the licensing making sure that all the documentation and Montana fog to find the operators and support them on the ground from day one so basically what you're doing now you're looking for these spaces and he also looking forward to preneurs budding restos operators. I would like to take over the spaces for some time. What kind of conditions are we talking about? How long would this pop ups for example? And what kind of operators are you looking game for. Exactly it depends side-by-side how long the pop-up lost with Tennessee. I think we are moving into month. Eight seven and Republican another three or four months. We'll see so it depends on the landlord. I mean typically day-old Adage from restaurateurs is once you found this all you want twelve months later you'll open the door was that's how long it takes to sometimes raise the money to get your lease. Signed your heads of terms obviously to fit it out so adama landlord or have an empty site. It could be there for a year before I'm actually GonNa say that open again so we can activate that site pretty much within a week to week turnaround. Make sure it's fit for purpose and get an operator in there. And they could trade their quite happily for four to five months whilst unseen the new incoming operator who takes a full lease is doing doing the negotiations with the landlord. Millennials have let so I activated is very flexible model rarely because some operators will want to go in for four to six months and north of gang of presence in makes him return perhaps but others will perhaps wants to do a supper club or decently much shorter term or might be happy. Just go in somewhere for a week to Derby PR and some of the landlords that we're actually talking about our existing operators already have to activate spaces particularly helium pumps and they could be much shorter. Say It's bespoke and it's flexible. An in terms of your other question of what sort of entrepreneurs are we looking for. The Sky's is the limit. We've had interest from a large very well. Funded American Vegan concept. which is very edgy? We've had interest from people who've superclubs in Hackney these people some of well funded and well back to existing. Operators is the ones that aren't who would have a great concept on great passion Russian but to get in front of a landlord to get a lease for ten to fifteen years. No way you ever going to be up to do that. Unless you've got some very very well funded ended backers of which most people don't because the banks unfortunately won't be lending anyone any money for quite a while for the smaller operations and this gives us the opportunity he to educate the operator in terms of how a landlord works. We should very much district comes and for us the Montana folks of of residency to work with them and help them and with the figures look concept introducing to suppliers etc etc.. Actually so there is a lot of support available when you choose. The operator so veto need to be worried about north knowing everything takes yeah. I think that's our biggest point of difference is it's three hundred. Sixty degree support system. Why there will be people who the first people we've introduced a ten Heddon street with David Carter from smoke stack and Chris Leach who worked at Bratton cooked lots of different places? How much support do they need? Not a great deal to be honest with you because they're incredibly experience but moving forward when we take someone from WHO's done of a food stall pop pop somewhere. They will need to understand how the western works because the West End Actually David. Chris did put their hands up and admit that the learning experience of coming from east blondel shortage into what is basically mayfair. Soho borders different world. Because lunch is a big thing. Lunch makes the difference. It doesn't make you a millionaire China but without lunch you really suffer if you're in the west end but you cost this much higher You've been following London restaurant scene for years. How has it changed changed? And what are your predictions. What is going to be happening in the future and always the landscape changing thing? We've seen this of past. Few years is a huge increase in the number of restaurants in London and this was sort of lead from consumer trend to solve. Eat out more and with the sort of casual dining lining crunch the so called and they changing political landscape confidence decreased and the oversupply of restaurants. Met not this wasn't in any way sustainable stable anymore. So that's when we started to see like restaurants going back to landlords and whilst the market is still very vibrant. There's loads of new. You operators out there that wants to take on site and central London. There's nowhere near as many as there was before and what it's done is created a survival of the fittest backdrop so the good restaurants still still trading while and a very very good and another thing. That's sort of is in between nether is is suffering. We've also seen rents go very very high because of the lack of supply of restaurant

Racing Without Gambling

"I'm guessing you've heard of the Kentucky Derby Abi to this race that's run usually early in May we haven't yet talked about the Kentucky Derby this year but that's about to change as we're finally starting to get into rounds of prep races that will winnow the field down to twenty for the run for the roses on May the second so to help us do that. We bring in voice. We haven't heard on this show for too long and and that's Jonathan Listener who writes for horse racing nation. Welcome back Jonathan. So before we get into a few specific horses. WHO's impressed you the most so far on the triple triple crown trail? I think Dennis moment to start the list. Dentists moment strikes to lead right at the top of the stretch at Delta. Two lanes lead our three lately for the final final furlong. Dennis this moment with five length lead scabbard with clear sailing up the second but Dennis moment kicks off the road at the Kentucky Derby in a big way. He barely moved a muscle. That we we have it. RESTRAINING NATION DOT COM user generated Kentucky Derby contender rankings and despite his trouble that experience career dentist moment has not left that number. One spot. You talking about a grade three winner. Who was going to be the favourite the Breeders Cup Juvenile L. Stumbles out of the gate? You know he could be undefeated if you look back at his debut he lost his jockey was really no fault zone so he has the two losses and between between them. He's sandwich to really really nice. Looking victories including his debut at Ellis Park they won by like nineteen and a quarter lengths. I think it was so there's a lot of potential there and he's one that I feel like every once in a while you hear about a derby prospect before they make their debut and then we kind of latch onto them I wanna say it was probably roadster roadster last year because Baffert said he could be his next justify American Farrow and obviously it didn't work out there but they'll Romans has talked up Dennis's moment since before he he ran a race. And so we're we're kind of going to the same thing here As far as a couple of other runners eight rings also out of the Breeder's cup juvenile. He's a really interesting. One didn't really run his race. You know the last time we saw him but I think the way he's going to be handled this season. You have to keep paying attention trained by Bob Baffert. He's he's GonNa run him in the rebel at Oaklawn. And then the Arkansas Derby potentially there as well and then another one that you know kind of on the fence about that you know. He's got a lot of towns. Is Max `field scratched from the Breeders Cup Juvenile. He had a little bit of an issue. There it turns out we found out a couple of weeks after that that he had had a minor surgery for a bone chip. But he's not even in serious training now. Well he's he's he's apparently galloping No works yet and so I think they'll have to do the to A. Ah kind of schedule where you hope to get race out of them and then you have a more serious race which I would expect to be something like the blue grass stakes if everything works out well and he's undeniable town. I'm and I think he's GonNa win a major race somewhere down the road. I don't know if it's going to be the Kentucky Derby and then the other one I feel like it's gotten all the conversation is independence hall at at Independence Hall now makes his move. Independence Hall is the leader getting away to lead by two prints of Pharaohs has moved up on the outside. It's Bourbon Bay Independence All L. linked and a half as they come for the quarto prints of Pharaohs on the outside Bourbon Bay. It is independence hall with the lead and now a furlong to the finish Jose Ortiz showing them the whip now goes to work on independence hall. WHO has a three likely? Just a sixteen to the finish at. It's the constitution called Independence Hall. Tailwind Jerome by four Knights won the national stakes by open links came back and won the jerome. It was a little more workmanlike. But he's going to go. Oh into the new year here as another one of the favorites and if I could talk about one more that has sort of attracted my attention a little bit. It's this ancient warrior horse. I don't know what his path is going to look like. He's Jerry Hall android or for trainee. And if you follow racing at all the last year or so. You'll know that. He's SORTA become embattled. Dan from the strike. Group's tracks out in California But I of all these horses that have won maiden races and we'll be going to the stakes. I want to watch that one closely. He's moved him over to Oakland Park. We should see him in an allowance. Race coming up at the beginning of February and then from then on he should be on the Derby trail else. That's one that that I definitely want to see more of well. You mentioned Bob Baffert. And it's tough to talk about the Kentucky Derby Trail Without Bob Baffert and he has a lot more than the one you mentioned. There's thousand words who ran a big race in the low sal futurity. I'm a Roger Federer Fan but you have to give it up for an doll who is also ambassador trainee. Who looked really really good? So I mean you know Bob Baffert certainly knows how to get horses to the Derby mean how many of these prospects aspects of pan out. I see a path for all of them. To be honest. You know and we also have mentioned authentic. It's still authentic coming to the three the eight ball. He's been in control throughout leads by a length and a half to uncaptured hero. It's all authentic as they pass the quarter pole and turned for home authentic and complete Khaliq Command turning it on. He's in front by sex with a furlong left to go. Zimba Warrior and Assault Coast as authentic is putting on a show. Here is a little green gene shifting about but long gone authentic strolls home in the sham. He'll win by about eight lakes green. It's Grafton stretch and just kept going there and another extremely impressive Horse Nidal I. I wonder about him a little bit. You know we've only seen him one time on Sunday and that six and a half for a long race he he looks like Dortmund Ortmann if you go back to two thousand fifteen big horse. That wasn't extremely fast out of the gate but once he got into stride he went straight to the pace and never really let up there. Yeah it's not not really the kind of horse you want to win the Derby but I think you could get to the Derby and then thousand words certainly has every reason to move forward his last race. I think they had probably a little bit the too much blinker on him and he ended up going head to head with that no door that ran in the Breeders Cup juvenile second. I think it's SORTA legitimize both of those horses that they ran so closely in the future. But I think thousand words is probably at least a couple of lengths better then a no door. He just probably didn't see him in the stretch until Flavian Kinda guided him out and it's like Oh with the blinker. The horse realized he had something to run against a win on. So I guess when you talk about horses that I'm looking at in the new year. Thousand Words is definitely on that shortlist list to Jonathan Listener of racing. Nation is with us here on the gate. We've talked a little bit about the Breeders Cup juvenile which was a topsy turvy race. You had three big horses that we've mentioned into all had their problems that day. We haven't talked about the horse. Who Wanted Storm the court for trainer Peter Martin and that would be a very popular win in the racing business? As you know what chance do you give storm the court to back up what he did in the juvenile. Oh probably not much not a lot of black type in the family. I'm not sure if there's any black type from Stanley I'd agree wise. And then you know he was obviously the beneficiary of other horses stumbles in that race You Know He. He goes gate to wire was not really pressed a whole lot and at the same time. I think they took the blinker. They put their blinkers on. I'm sorry and I have not a fan of lemon. That put blinkers was on a horse at that point in their career. I feel like you should be taken them off so that they can relax. Prepare to go a little bit longer. I think that race and the circumstances just all all came together for storm the court and allowed him to upset that race. It's forty five to one. Whatever he ended up that day I'm sort of in agreement? I think with everybody else that the the the better Derby Derby prospect was no door and second in that race going forward. I want to mention because these races have just happened. Enforceable label for Mark Cassie. Who is not missed? A beat after a son norm went out on his own. He had been his father's chief assistant and enforceable. Really good winning the Lecomte. But we haven't seen too many Lecompte winners. Go on to run well in the Kentucky Derby. Where do you put me as a tap it colt out of a dixie union in marriage? The breeding is good. I put him a really high on my list. As far as forces will be in the Derby but I would not put him on my list of forces that I think can win the Derby and I say that because of his running style you know if we go back to almost every year that the point system has been effect and obviously gets rid of those pure your sprinters. It's the horses that can put themselves near the front at the beginning of the race and keep that pace up and never be caught by closers that tend to win the Derby enforceable enforceable is one of those closers. It's inevitable that he's GONNA run into traffic problem you know. I almost hope he sneaks into the Derby and everybody overlooks. Because I feel like he's the kind of horse could come into the super factor. That's probably going to be a really common line of thought. Though I mean I'm thinking a few months out but the soup perfect You know in the era of a favorites winning the Derby is as remain because it's pretty high minimum of really profitable wager for people nonetheless so yeah for me. He's a super effective player. I I I think he's GonNa be okay as the distance is longer obviously is a full brother Mohammed and a half years day. There's a lot there in the pedigree just really impressive on paper and it was good to see him run as well as he did you know He. He broke his maiden at nine furlongs last summer at Saratoga and it looks like okay. Here's a real two year old and I you know he ran into you. Go into a little bit shorter and the breeder security at keeneland and Max field because two things came together and got him beat but he's definitely better horse than he showed that day and it was good to see him back it up the trump

"Gossip Good Morning Good Morning Steve. How're you doing good to be back home glad to whatever you want you know it's open open mic DOC whatever is ready and of course you follow gusts through everybody's followed gusts forever from day one on at the races and got a couple of plays maybe for the weekend gus but some some early thoughts before pre entries as we look Toward Cup it's always talked before pre entries but breath just looking at the races exciting exciting racist to get excited about it I think cameras just said I think the sprint and the dirt mile probably the two right now but I mean we have three solid juvenile's with noon Dennis moment eight rings and and Max Bill which I think three of those are very quality horses and just looking to see how these fields shape up but I mean I'll see you know some great opportunities in those fourteen racist for sure what we haven't obviously we haven't had a chance to talk anything on a consistent basis but what do you like to do when it comes to terms of a ticket structures and and focus in how many how many multi-race wagers which one's the utilize the most I'll tell you what you know you get these big fields I had the most success with exactly is in doubles to tell you the truth sometimes simple the up keep it simple and You get I mean you get a lot of value and those plays with the you know arch fields in and actually pick a couple of wide open races I usually focus on that I do tickets with the you know the picked force and I like to find at least one single maybe to deepen the other one and maybe spread that's what I kind of look forward definitely a single though in the pick four pick five I definitely need one host but I think even the pick threes you know the pick threes are they paid handsomely in the last few years as well but I think people you know who spoke with the exact in the doubles I mean you can get some real value if you if you got a good opinion onto racist back to back you can get paid well and we were in fact last week with Jeff Siegel this came up and when I was asking Jeff about his preparations and when it comes to the a ticket building and and we'll remind everybody that as much time as we spend handicapping the gotta spend a hundred percent the maybe not maybe not practical to spend as much time building the tickets but there's gotta come a point Wednesday Thursday where you you've got a pretty good idea of of the horses you're going to key around take a break from I'm from the handicapping and put pen to paper and write down the your perspective wagers and budgeted out and and you know take a look at the you know once we get the announcement I think it's on the twenty third by the way runs day the twenty third will be the race order official order announcement the Breeders Cup has a tendency to the tinker with it based on on the way the field size shape up you know look at that structure highlight the spots where you've got your strongest opinion and then back up on either side of those strong opinions if you're a mother erased player and you know we keep suggesting you know if you if you typically pick four player okay fine you're going to play your series of fake force but this is where you take a step back to and play more pick threes and the doubles and I I I think it's advice that I try to drive home every single u a year that you you don't WanNa have some of your best ideas the horses that end up winning that you had a good feel for an and then you didn't cash because there's some upset in the third or fourth leg of a pick four and you you didn't leverage your good idea as strongly as you might have oh I totally agree with that you know like you said once the the race orders come in just pick your spots we have your strongest opinions and then you go from there I mean that's I mean horse players nightmare there were your your ten to one shot twelve the one shot comes in and then you're single maybe a three to one shot you know doesn't come in the last leg and you didn't have anything on on on your your strongest opinion the price that's that's tough pill does Walla sometimes no doubt gusts will obviously you know get a chance to direct people toward you and and the analysis at at Brisbane that and Talk Again Cup Week maybe you know pick out a a a spot that you know the to discuss what what he did complain of of late how much keeneland action you taking it definitely on the weekends for sure and dabbling a little bit during the week I mean some great racing the weather's been fantastic and big fields they're coming to an end here this weekend but got a couple of plays today actually Keelan let me here let me let me see got hold on I got the where's where's my keeneland Friday Thursday AK with Saturday I keep the Friday about what's going on down believable there's so much there's so many things here did you play Gulfstream yesterday by the way did you play the pick five thing a little bit I did I did and got knocked out pretty early believe it or not you would not price horse which is Kinda it'll happen yeah oh yeah it was over quick so it's pretty full paid well for me though for the for the amount of low prices that were that were at three was a signal and the third leg so I know it's funny that that was the that was the horse that gave the opportunity to to to tip toe to turn it into a pick four but yet I do get the sense a lot of people got tripped up either on the in the first leg or the last leg where the two spots we're GONNA WE'RE GONNA get the one side of the other well let's talk about Qinglin go ahead what are you got today seven just my best friend today force MS coming out of the Woodbine Mile Bill Seventy eight to one mile with a chaining hill started the outside somehow he he maneuver beautifully coming into the turn but down the stretch is totally got shut off had nowhere to go I thought he had nice I made a move just didn't have enough to go this horse has been running good all year up at Woodbine five draws the five here which is which is ideal nine to two is very fair price is a loaded racist could be a stakes race disallowance this allowance race but I like plot I think he's going to get a good trip there's enough speed in front where he's going to be right in stock and right behind I mean he's faced some nice horses I think this is the time to to get in this at somewhere of now ninety two would it be beautiful if we can get that and I think we will because you know the outside you have a few horses that are going to take some money especially Colin Road for for Michael Maker Jose Ortiz that was gonNA take somebody coming out of ah graded great three but ms I think is the wholesome and a key on all over in in starting reporter and race seven and Connor Murphy for whatever reason Connor Murphy does not does not draw money and wins I mean he wins plenty does a good job interesting to see Mark Glatt come to keeneland souter shows up here yet pick source interesting ski Churchill last time kind of finished pretty decent but it's a nice horse was nice races earlier in the year so and you got Roselle Rosario on board into feature the feature very nice race today again the the greatest Devali view fulfilled I think by horses winter sunset four eight to one on the morning line think might get a couple of clicks down I mean she's versatile I don't know if she wants to go nine furlongs I think she kinda flattens out at nine furlongs the mile amount of sixteenth which is I think this is her her best distance coming off a win at Indiana ground at any grant she's got a nice post and she's just a nice trip there there's some speed lined up to the inside I think she can get I run and I mean the twelve is going to be flying late this lady the prince a lot for Baltistan she's eight to one I think she comes down from that I can see here making a big move middle of course coming down the lane but winterson that's it for me eight to one would be great I think she gets I run on on on the closers and should sit a nice trip there again for channing hill it's now and Bhartiya earlier to Mardi landed on winter sunset yeah I'm not sure what the price I think she might down from Chad you've got to chat horses that are Ya Chad takes money like you you saw yesterday focus group was was really over bet yeah I like him but it's too crazy I'll tell you what I have a bomb in the second race so a bomber I'm GonNa take just fly the one horse abstinent for Ian Wilkes make third start first time on on the turf going to turns Bravo Bravo couple of wins from six starts the meat this horse broke the last couple of times I starts his career broke out think the inside post and Bravo might be able to as well she's fifteen to one in the morning line you might get fifteen twenty to one hundred Meta take a flyer on her and also gotTa pick for tonight at down coming ten so Remington race eight to similar races look a little chunky some nice racist tonight there but the turf club sick I landed onto one how will you hit I mean there is a ton of speed and just in this turf race in Cabrera on one of the top job he's here at Remington inside post should have a nice cozy trip Coming off of you know making third start off off the current form I think he's eligible to really explore down the lane think they're gonNA really back up coming down and at four to one I think he's very nice.

Every year and i and we didn't get a chance to talk ahead of the alabama but i made the point said that you know when it came to the phillies that <hes> the there isn't the same focus on the ten furlongs for them for whatever reason you know leading up to derby. That's all we talk about and then here's the alabama last week. <hes> i and probably a lot of cases only time that the those phillies are gonna go <hes> ten for a long so there is the delaware andy gap opportunity for them. You know each summer but the same thing is slightly to a lesser degree when it comes to travers because invariably there's horses from the triple crown season and so there's an easy reference back back to the mile and a quarter and of course we're also in the shadow of the pacific classic <hes> this past saturday another race where there were older horses in some cases trying a mile and a quarter for the first time you know <hes> you know this is this is an interesting equation the travers average every year because there's horses who were on a different development curve that may have missed the triple crown season and it makes it just as compelling to look at these pedigrees and look at running styles to try to figure out who's who's gonna stay on of course code bonner. No i was put up the third in the in the derby and <hes> wasn't allendale thirty three <hes> yeah the second dail <hes> third was <hes> was dale. Dale dale was second. Dail was we're down but it was a no separating the two yeah so <hes> so you know look at on dale one mhm salad gunston far back. there one of the NBC shows that I didn't have to head down for I was actually up in Maine with some family and taking care of some things watching the races from afar and it it seems like for a minute we were actually gonna get the rate then but finally obviously eventually after a little bit of a delay they got the right done and it was it was definitely an exciting one and of course the inquire re signed one up and Gerry Weston they connections had be a little nervous again another wrinkle yes please things like they just can't can't catch a break when it comes to that to be fair I don't know what it is a magnet he still relatively lightly raced maximum security in the grand scheme of things but he has developed a little bit of a bad habit about docking inner docking now he's not he's not the the straightest in truest runner when he's out there on the track and and I I I've seen a lot of people on social media talking about Louis side needs to do a better job of maintaining course I don't know that I want to blame the rider all the time I understand that the writers of the one that generally have most control but at the same time with a horse like maxim security was always does it a little bit on the group decided only down South Florida kind of going through the ranks coming up into the Great Lakes right he's never been be the straight distance truest runner that something hopefully I'll figure out sooner than later re run seven times I'm hopeful if we get a couple more races into a no get that straightened out to your right the owners the connections they had to be sitting there going you you can't be serious it's going to have to do it again all right so that's a winning here and that means he's got a spot in the breeders Cup classic Ortiz think maximum security you'll be doing between now and November well it'll be interesting I think most people look at that sort of the logical next step being a race like the Travers up the terror told her but there is that part day you look at it nowadays with the demo of the Pennsylvania derby to a great one Travers that can prolong the Pennsylvania derby is that nine their bowl three year old restricted races that Pennsylvania derby almost offers connections an opportunity to bypass facing older horses before the breeders Cup and with the war like maximum security I I don't want to say that I'd be surprised if you showed up in the Travers because I wouldn't call but this grade one and a half school at least put him squarely back into the fold into the mix of getting your and daughters of winning three year old champion and while the breeders Cup is the goal for but probably all these connections they also want to win year read hardware and I think the best thing for these connections to do is make sure that he's put in position than in places to to be at the absolute best you get I'm not trying to suggest that temper long get Saratoga won't be his best we seen historically the the Haskell Travers double is a very difficult one to fall off for one reason or another the racetracks are a little bit dissimilar the distances vehicle you'll be getting some pressure faces as well if if I were involved the horse I would probably wait for the Pennsylvania derby in September and the train amended the breeders Cup classic take on older horses for the first time there but at the same time I can understand them saying you know what let's go for the jugular let's try to pin down this three year old champion Travers and getting things done with the mid summer dirty we're chatting with the the daily racing form's Matt but near Matt along with Danielle men covers the and might be here as they cover the leading races around the country and you can check out their report when you subscribe to the daily racing form's analysis of those big stakes races so mad how's your summer plan and the head you take a look at Saratoga in Delmar those the two tracks you concentrate on yeah those are the biggest opens up to the time beer understandable everybody's paying attention to those I'll be headed up to Saratoga for the week near for the four star Dave for NBC so I'll be up there for that entire week but that's kind of you know everybody looking at it from a from a state standpoint in in or out whether you agree with it or not switch some people look out for that or not I got a break the racing calendar into two six months segments where we had the lead up to the Kentucky Derby in the Triple Crown and then we have the lead up to the breeders Cup in a feel like right now we are in that sort of yeah we're in full flight looking toward the breeders Cup you'll want to wish away summer everybody loves the summer meets but all of these races are with the intention of getting to the ultimate goal which heard these horses would probably be the breeders Cup classic but then for all the other divisions as well the sprint the mile all that sort of stuff so so it's Erik Ogan Delmar definitely to spot that they have the best quality rating at this point and the rate that are gonna be most pertinent to what breeders Cup time come early November dot at the nida now there was no racing in Saratoga yesterday but I am certain they plan to be a running today yeah it sounds like the temperature is supposed to be a little bit on the kinder side today only supposed to be low nineties and the the big thing was the humidity yesterday posted today the mid eighties gone down of my neck of the woods and the north shore Massachusetts same deal nor the humidity yesterday was just brutal seems to have gone away that would be a hot one but it's not going to be it didn't seem like it'll be anything that should be too too dangerous or anything of that nature should be fine for anybody going out doing whatever so night that will gonna get this entire card your today up to spot tacked on a couple races so it'll be thirteen races are for the most part it's whatever was scheduled on Saturday will be run today so you'll still get the coaching club American oaks will get more on who can touch on briefly but there's a couple of the stakes race as well and actually the jump rates for the first race day up at the spot so earlier post time and it seems like everything's good to go for this afternoon okay so let's get your thoughts about Saratoga today and some of the races to stand out to you that you have an opinion on and then we'll switch to the Delmar out in southern California yeah yeah I got a couple from Saratoga couple from Delmar you know obviously gore on it in the in the coaching club I did that's not really a an opinion it's just more a matter of I expected to go out there instructor stop I understand she's going out to turn for the first time but she she's going to be the kind of horse that interested in watching not necessarily batting because the the ramifications of her going forward if she goes out and does what it looks like he's capable of doing this afternoon yes could be setting her up for bigger better so I'm not going to really talk too much about that but she'll be fascinating to watch that the early race on the card the final rate actually right thirteen the shoe be great three a mile and an eighth on the main track Chad brown has the returning but while cash we remember while cap from the breeders Cup distaff last year she rally really nicely to finish second at a pretty fair price sixty once you've been gone since then though and I know Chad does very well this sort of moved but nine furlongs off the bank catching them pretty salty courses including or sixty to Julie I just think it be bev wrap this is an opportunity to beat her and I want to I want to use the other chat or so far outside the number eight electric forest I've always been a fan of this Billy I think she's very lightly raced died from a number standpoint you a little bit on the slow side but at the same time I look at it they go to most recent runs for two starts why should they one of them was at the end of a three year old year December a Gulfstream but he's paired up career buyer top speed figures of eighty six and for me whatever you pair up a buyer top to me it may it makes me think that the next move there's gonna be a forward move so I expect her to move into the mid night ranger this afternoon then perhaps wildcat not ready to go perhaps she's a Julie as well she ran at Churchill maybe you can try to beat her a sharp right Lecter force for me on the far outside I do I think she's interested she took the one in the morning line now in New York yeah back without the Oman and then you have Saratoga tell us the distinct the handicapping situations you should consider when betting it Serra to so that as opposed to act with doc and Belmont why didn't it did the biggest thing with Jericho good that makes it so difficult which also makes it as of lucrative fruitful as it is with out is that you have horses coming from all across the country showing up to run up to date and keep in mind the I mean they they only run there for forty days that you're going to be thirty nine with the cancellation of yesterday so it's a little bit I don't it's a it's a little less predictable but there is that element of uncertainty where you do get horses that come in from all different restriction connections pointing specifically for that meet Belmont Park whether it's the spring summer or fall you know it's just it's it's a monstrosity of a race track if you've never been there if you can get out there I highly encourage I love Belmont's one of my favorites but the sheer size of the facility is is just kind of mind boggling and you obviously have different configurations with those races with the two turf courses some of them are essentially one term mild on grass we know about the one term rate is on the main track I know when you get to act with doc now they obviously have to tear courses but that's what I feel very much more like it's the local connections the New York folks that come through because the races are not quite of the same caliber used to get some grade one races whether it's the grade one Carter in the spring or the great one cigar mile out their final sort of closing weekend the add back without for their there's all meet before they go into the winter meeting there's definitely some differences as far as qualities can know what people are pointing towards that's the big thing that I would just say Saratoga you get him from all over the place Belmont has its quirks in new wanted in just the size and volume overall and then you look at act would attack would have definitely feels like a little bit more of the the local hopes all right let's switch out to southern California dumb.

"So when you get back on the third, Dan, you get, you know, a bunch of recent Kleber Brent horses to departing the war front horse when the West Virginia, derby and superheavy. Multi-service winner. You get the great war war front it. It's a it's a real good kind of a recent ish quavering family, and you know. Sam I called cutting humor's out of pun by pulpit. I'm just the face value. The pedigree kind of indicate skied the tech performance kind of good speed. And and ninth along ability, perhaps, you know, he might get ten but. On the face of it. You know, this is the pedigree that as mentioned Jen -tations than in family. It's at speedier type of family, of course, departing from the family rough, you know, nine furlong and really. What what does family kinda tells me? Now, and this was a horse. I mentioned a couple of times going back to bring them up with Todd when I saw him break his maiden at Calder, and he he won like a good horse wins and broke his maiden. It wasn't particularly fast got a seventy four buyer..

"If you are against the concept tomorrow happens to be the day where you do play and where the positive expectation is just too invaluable because there's so many extraneous impossible combinations. That are played that it does offset to some degree. And this is even true before a force out there. So many extraneous combinations covered that it does mitigate the takeouts that are involved. So it's it's a fascinating discussion. And this is a very fair approachable sequence for a distribution. Let's get some opinions from you, Tom, especially on the stakes. Let's start with the Lewis and the pass cow look at the Lewis, I which goes as race number six on the card at the second leg of the pick six, and you know, when you think back to the running of the sham stakes. I mean, just visually that was not a very pretty race. In my opinion. I'm just willing to discount most of the runners that come out of the sham including the runner. Medal gray take nothing away from them. We we spoke about gun metal grey week after after his victory at B for West Point there, but happy for trainer Jerry Hollander for. But I'm just not convinced that that was very very productive rates visually. We'll see down the road whether whether or not that that conclusion proves to be true. But I'm willing to draw a line through the runners in the sham the interesting horse who was supplemented of the race. And I'm very surprised by this, and I'm not necessarily in love with the horse tomorrow in the Bob Lewis is Mick magnificent Makul, we talked on the show before about how impressive his win breaking his maiden me. I'm a to turn. Of course, at San Nita was the Gallup was unbelievable. And if you go to two lanes back in his running lines, you can see two extra hope who was very very spectacular in victory yesterday. Richard Mandela Mandela decided to skip this race and run extra hope yesterday allowance race. He looks like he could be three zero to deal with them the derby trail for Samantha -sego. But I think that I think the race goes through the bottom to run as you mentioned you thought maybe you could go to deep. I'm willing to discount gun metal gray who I'm assuming Steve is one of your runners, and I'm gonna use both Muccio Gustavo and no low contest or no contest. Oh, beat 'em Ah-ha beach who's gonna be a prohibitive favorite in the first leg of the of the rainbow pick six tomorrow. But I think he's got a lot of upside he broke from the rail in his debut. Adele, Mark the jockey loss desire Riveria kinda just you know game spin around the racetrack. He lost the bathroom runner kingly, who's a half to mow Hayman and full of New Year's day any came back around to turns. And really got off the board morning line was four to one went off at eight to five and he couldn't have been more. Impressive affect sadly put some immediately right into the stakes race. I think speaks volumes about how company is about. No, low contestability so many use the bottom two renters who is still from the Baffert barn. And no contest contestant. Try and cover the race with just those two. Well, and you may be onto something for people when it comes to magnificent Makul, at least as an exotics inclusion with that. Gestion don't maybe gloss over him as he returns the dirt from that season ender or season starter. I've December twenty eighth at the need is sort of a season starter, even though he was still just too, but he breaks his maiden going to mile and an eighth on the grass, and certainly nobody else in here is traveled nine furlongs. So that you know, maybe a fitness age. And certainly that January nineteenth workout makes us to see what we hear from what we hear from India Harrington later tonight, the San PASCAL, I talked to Jay Primm earlier and the hammer to and boy Tom this race, considering we what we had in in Gulfstream this past week to have this come up as deep as it did even with MacKenzie as the short price favourite says a lot that they came out of the woodwork for this. Yeah. Absolutely. And obviously MacKenzie hopeful that he'll be victorious here connections and move onto by that's at least the plan at the moment. Then, you know, McKinsey kind of I'm not sure that he's really value at four to five, and I respect the connections..

"The charmer. So you would imagine next time around the probably all equal weights. If they showed up in a spa similar to this southern California one or that is unlikely to run his next race in southern California's the winner next shares because co owner Mike alive room brought up the idea that the Pegasus is what they'll be looking at no not the duration. It will be the Pegasus turf Cup by believe that's the seven million dollar version and the raises nine or something like that. They're looking for big money. And look the sources in good form comes home gets his final eight and eleven ninety little bit slow out of the gate, but that wasn't much of an issue. He had the class over the rest of this field and again distance. I didn't know if he would really love nine furlongs. I still don't know that he loved it. But he was able to get it. And again the class at that point. Usually, these Illman has always said, and I tend to agree these mile the mile and an eighth races really to me class and overall talent is much more important than at the races at a mile and a half a mile and three eighths. Those races are much more conducive to just specifically stamina. Can you stay the distance because the more talented horses at the shorter distances? This is really ultimately were the the cream is going to rise to the top. As exactly what you had here would next shares as far as Cleopatra strike is concerned again, probably rent to well to lose a little bit tired at the end didn't have quite the same kick that the others contenders in the spotted finish in twelve eighteen. But when you consider this one was relatively close to the pace. Twenty four forty eight and one twelve and two or three quarters. They stopped the clock and forty eight and three all things considered. It wasn't a bad ever. But I wrote about Diarra live, and I posted saying, you know, I on paper Cleopatra strike is difficult to really like in the spotlight this based on what the source has done throughout his career. Really never. I don't think he'd ever earned anything more than eighty nine buyer from class standpoint, you didn't really fit but time and time again, we see worse horses from the east coast and Canada, go to southern California and take advantage. And I think that's what you saw here. Leah Patrick strike. All the sudden, I think you have to look at him as a as a contender in some of these spots in southern California. Whereas on the east coast, he probably just be an also ran leeann the charm, I still maintain I think he wants a little bit more distance. I thought he ran just fine in here thought he got a little bit flat at the end. And I know he came back and actually made it closer. But if he had just sustain that bid. I think he actually may have been able to get the job done, but they just kinda flattened out a little bit. I maintain he's better going longer. I know for a fact Chicago. Style the fourth place. Finisher is better going longer. He was really cooking home at the very end e finished in eleven sixty five and you have to imagine you get him out back to a distance that he appreciates more. I would say even a short is a mile and a quarter, but we know mile and three eighths mile and a half that's really his game. Stretching back out. I didn't love him in this. Heck I didn't love him in the Hollywood turf Cup. I didn't love him coming out of the Lewer. Bef to admit when you're on in this horse..
