Free Agency 2021: Biggest Winners and Losers From Day One

"Who's the biggest winner from day. One the biggest winner from day one already told you it was. It was a my intro. You're listening great question. Jonnu smith out. It's cam newton. Well that depends kenyans a starter for sixteen games. That's right that's true. It's yeah okay. Potentially find jonah smith. Donald smith big contract with the patriots They invest heavily in him. You like this for him i do. I think you know Obviously the quarterback is the concern. But this is the scenario especially with the move that they made that we look for in fantasy as tight end could be the leader of the pack in terms of targets and opportunities and so look cam was not good in twenty twenty. If cam does start sixteen games in two thousand twenty. One greg olsen. During a five year stretch was pretty awesome of the top tier tight ends of the guys that we did. We talk about what he was in the next group you know. And so from twenty two thousand twenty sixteen. Greg olsen averaged a hundred eighteen targets a season seventy seven catches Decide one thousand yards and five times. Johnny could do that. One season estimate put them right around a top five tight end. Greg olsen was great and not only was he great but we also saw from cam newton in that stretch that he could give you greg olsen. Who could finish as a top eight tight in five straight seasons and give you a number to wide receiver in four of those five seasons three or four of those five seasons whether it was. Steve smith or kelvin. Benjamin and even ted ginn one year. So that's interesting. I'll afforded talking about that on the show tomorrow on the tuesday morning show and then of course we'll have a whole bunch of more news items to react to. Hopefully we'll get some kenny golladay news at some point on tuesday or maybe it'll happen later on monday night as record this at about nine fifteen eastern. Who's the biggest loser from day. One the biggest loser from day one on asking these questions before. I told you that we were starting with these egypt's before the show The biggest guys they ryan tannehill johnny smith and Us down smith and corey davis They're going to have to struggle to replace those guys Davis probably more. So the jonah just from the standpoint of what he was last year with his production number two receiver sixty five catches nine hundred plus yards and five touchdowns. So we'll see what they do in in in that in that regard but i think Tannehill you know. I had him as the number eleven quarterback. I dropped in the thirteen after today. Just because i think it was close between in my mind. Joe burrow and tom brady put them behind both those guys. Okay how 'bout jameis winston ryan tannehill right now. It's soom jameis winston as the starter. I still go. i think it'd be messy. You know. I can't situation we're taking those not blaming So i was hoping james would go someplace else and tastes hill. Would still be the guy with maybe a rookie or somebody. Young that they could groom continued. Just gonna to get you know too much of the mill package of james as the starter and if as milton starter. Davis is gonna play very much so it just feels like it be messy situation oil. Who do you like better. Corey davis with the jets nelson agholor with the patriots. I think adler is going to be bad. I don't trust the situation. You know i mean he. He had so many big. Plays for the raiders last year and he was so good for derek carr but he did that on eighty two targets. I don't think he gets eighty two targets with the patriots. He's going to do the same thing. So with what cam does running the ball with what jonah smith brings to the table with. What the rest of the receiving corps will look like if julian edelman on the team if he's healthy Nagla is going to be A guy that's not on many fantasy rosters middle of the season whereas corey davis could be the best receiver for the jets. I don't know if that's going to be the case. But i would take davis by far over niagara.

"The with kevin mason will send shockwaves through neighborhood. Like the words shots fired. We saw that notification the other night on facebook. And of course i asked. Are we going to set it out by our neighborhood watch and they did shortly thereafter. We had shots fired the neighborhood three blocks down from where we live. We live in a fairly quiet. Little suburb of nashville. But we're near a lot of crime neighborhoods and the crime is finally starting to seep into our area a lot of times kids in the middle of the night trying to go through car. Seeing what's left open seeing what they can take out. They don't really steal cars. Although recently we did have a car stolen from the neighborhood and last night nine. Fifteen four youths were out checking cars. The only thing they weren't expecting an off-duty police officer coming home and seeing them and starting tail them. They figured out because they shot three times at the police officer hitting his car bumper and then two shots hitting two different houses. Nobody was injured. Nobody was hurt but of course the neighborhood is freaked out. Yeah rifling through cars at two o'clock in the morning. There's a whole lot different than doing at nine o'clock at night especially when people are out walking their dogs.

"Let's talk a little more about that big apple. Announcement Shannon. All Right Apple announced finally that it will hold an event September fifteenth at one PM. So I think it's pretty say we're getting US series six watch. One rumor you heard Lamar was that we might not get the iphone announcement because we know they're ship until at the earliest October they might hold off and only announced the watching the IPAD. Yeah. There was a Bloomberg report. That was adjusting that. It will be a separate. Distant this thing happening next week we'll be IPHONE IPAD and apple. Watch. They would do a separate event in October, which is not a president. They've done two separate events in a fall before where they would just have an iphone event then. I feel like if they were GONNA do that they should probably let people I mean, no one's traveling to the event so. But you know just expectation purposes probably be good to let people know that not to expect him iphone announcement next week if that's the case but you're saying they're probably going to announce everything. My Gut tells me they're going to ask the IPHONES even if they're not shipping until. October. Because a watch and IPAD announcement doesn't seem like enough on its own. The always. A drop will happen. Right they usually have that's other part is I can't imagine they would they would announced the launch of IOS fourteen and not announce the new iphones to go with it. "Hello from Wonder Media Network I'm Jenny Kaplan, and this is encyclopedia will Manica. All month we're talking about activists. Women who stood up against injustice and four a better world. Today we're talking about an American civil rights activist whose work began as a student and extended throughout her life and beyond. She was one of the leaders of the sit in and Jalen movements continuing to fight for a more just society even when faced with serious harm. According to The New York Times her FBI file was over four hundred pages long. Let's talk about Patricia Stevens do. Patricia Gloria Stevens was born on December ninth nineteen, thirty, nine fifteen months after her sister Priscilla who would go on to be partner in many organizing efforts. She and her sister refused to go to the designated colored window at their local dairy queen. Instead, they stood in line for the window marked whites only. In one, thousand, nine, hundred, Eighty, seven Patricia started school at Florida Am University. Two years later in Nineteen fifty-nine Patricia and Priscila attended a workshop put on by the Congress of racial equality or core on nonviolent civil disobedience. Trump says he'd be in favor of Goodyear boycott

"A factory worker at a tire factory in ticket, Kansas posted an unverified image to social media of a powerpoint presentation that appears to show that Tire Company's policy disallowing their employees from wearing Magyar at work I mean pick your poison right guys which fire you're GONNA put out I. Tough call where to start here unless of course. How do you put out the fire? So you mean, one thing is sent a tweet and the other is like create workgroups. We'll is assume what you did there beef doesn't make much sense to me, Oh yeah. Okay. What I mean will as being sarcastic. Yeah, and you're saying this good your tire thing is not a big deal she had has hit the fucking fan and Donald Trump felt need to ask Americans to boycott an American company instead of. Focusing has ever done any of these other nasty things. What did they do? Well, here's what happened guys. Apparently there was a slide. That went around from a diversity training one employee at a Topeka. Kansas factory shared this on social media and said, they say we can't wear Maga- gear. To which president trump ran with it, and he tweeted don't buy goodyear tires. They announced a ban on mega hats get better tires for far less open parentheses. This is what the radical left Democrats due to play the same game and we have to start playing it now and guys one minute one minute later shares of the ohio-based Goodyear fell. To a low of nine fifteen. Down six don't want. You don't want the president of the United States calling for a boycott company GONNA hey. Him, they can't wear the fucking, hats. Offensive than the Maga- stuff was on the on the bad list was blue lives matter in on the good list was BLM's you're allowed to rock. Wanted you couldn't rock blue lives matter. Those slide was outrageous if existed that should have never been shown in a at a company it was very, very partisan. Or. Here's what I say no, no beef you had your five minutes. Here's what I would say to anyone. It goes both ways if you boycott beings because you know you do don't like trump but those warrior favorite dinner beans and now you're not eating your favorite beans. You're a Weirdo if you if you boycott tires that and again you can do the research goodyear may or may not be the best they may or may not be the best price may or may not be the best safes. But if you originally thought they were and they're protecting you and your family. Now boycott them over this it goes on both sides. It's a nine years. Nah I disagree. I. Think it's totally fine if they're infringing on your freedom of speech, this fucking company telling us on fringing on both. Taking they're taking a fucking side obviously. These. This this guy, might this one factory might? Attract they know they were attracted it. Hammer, coming down corporate tried to retract but I mean the damage is done. Let me just ask just as bad. Let me just ask you this from a money standpoint who buys more fucking expensive tires. Truck. Drivers right. So, like this is this for goodyear specifically as a company, this could be more of a detrimental blow them to other industries. I. Agree with you. There Gentlemen, people. Yes. I agree with you that you guys are all dumbest shit because it was an unverified fucking tweet some guy tweeted a thin. We've also gentlemen imported tires are sold in this fucking country. We are in an economic goddamn crisis. When you have a leader, you want leader to not make it about himself. Just fucking. Let it go do their you saying that wasn't displayed a good year meeting. Well, here's what happened goodyear tyres. By saying that what you're saying they said the slide was quote not created or distributed by good corporate whatsoever, and I was like corporate but one of their employees at their office. That I guess it was one factory this point some dude took a picture of a slide that was not from corporate posted to the Internet and our president without verification ran with it and asked Americans being caught. Presentation at work. To. Your being to cold on it if it was a good year presentation on a factory that shouldn't have happened. These guys it. It's one hundred, Eighty, eight, the runs. The fact is. You should be fired. You do right now is not the time to ask anyone to boycott any American company with what about going. With that, you didn't say anything about gray. Gray has nothing to do with this. It does. Brand. On the last two duguay guys one minute left one by the right greg. My stance is all boycotts on either side. If you prefer that product, you're silly silly goose and maybe prefer your partisanship over the product and then now becomes your favorite thing. But to me that just weird are well, let me finish the fuck information. So they deny that it was from four hundred please they further clarified and they said it was not part of diversity training classes. So probably what it was if it wasn't fake, it was real. It was one area one plant not from corporate good. Yes complaint. Fired they further clarified guys that their general general policy indicates that they ask their employees to keep their workplace nonpartisan saying quote, we do lower socio to express their support on racial injustice and other equity issues but ask they refrained from workplace expressions verbal or otherwise in support of political campaigning for any candidate or political party, as well as other simple similar forms of advocacy that fall outside the scope of equity issues. So if you want to know what s specifically it was, it was acceptable black lives matter lesbian gay bisexual transgender pride unacceptable blue lives matter all lives matter matter Maga- tire politically affiliates slogans or betrayal again goodyear's denying it's from corporate. Yeah it's not as. DUMB HR REP at factory. Put It on thing for somebody to take a picture I have no conflict of interest. I don't know a single person that works good. You're what I'm saying is it is also unfair if they retracted and if they fire this person to gentlemen. As we shouldn't be having this conversation because the president shouldn't have taken verified tweet and tweet it boyscout mcquaid. Have the logo I mean it's got the logo on your right wes.

How should I launch a gift box service for new moms?

"Hi Chris. This is Sarah from Florida. And I've been listening to your show for a while. Only had an idea I'm passionate about my personal experiences. Thinking about starting a side hustle and the GIG box market appeal to mount oftentimes people forget that not only the a baby born with a Momma's born to, and she could also use some TLC. My question as I began my research process is. Do you think it's wise? decided new venture on a platform such as exceed the captive audience, or do you think it makes more sense to build your own website and work to draft traffic through social media? ADS etc.. Or is it perhaps both thanks in Florida hearing your answers of they build up my idea. Hey, Sarah what's up. Thank you so much for listening and I think this is a great idea. We had a story recently about someone doing something kind of like this episode nine fifteen. The MOM box subscription offers postpartum recovery products. And just as a reminder, in case, anybody new when I say somebody's been doing this before. That doesn't mean, don't do it. It often means there's a market for this. There are people willing to pay for it, so it's great that there's one service out. They're gonNA provide something that is a little bit different, or at least a different customers and so on. So as to which path is best here in terms of the Oetzi versus website thing, it's kind of a yes and. So I think you said something like. Should it be both I I? Do think it could be both. I think experimenting on is worth it. It's very low cost. You might learn something. You'll probably improve your skill. In terms of copyrighting, maybe in terms of images, maybe pricing whatever it is, you'll learn something, but I also think in the long run. You definitely want your website and that's because in the long run. You don't WanNa. Be Dependent on. Any other platform now I don't necessarily believe that means that you should focus on media ads however. At least not at first a Lotta people lose money doing not. I've had a bunch of questions recently about this. So if you probably hear this some other questions. As well going forward. The time to spend money on advertising is when you want to amplify A. Product or just get more reach for something that's already working like when your conversion rate is high, it's not usually a great way to introduce a new product and then sell that product, and then grow your initial following all at once. Those are just too many goals to accomplish unless you have an unlimited budget, and even they're going to end up wasting a lot of that money, so not necessarily social media ads, but I do think it'd be good to experiment on. And as well built out your own website

"Traffic I never order in our storm team four forty four cast including some severe weather this morning man of the theme is but wait there's more it was the warning is now for our southern Maryland listeners most of St Mary's county and the southern half of Calvert county you will have the latest severe thunderstorm warning in effect until nine fifteen in particular near Avenue and letter town and they can next bill towards St letter to towards the Bayshore all the way down to about Lexington park and just to the north of Saint Mary's city if you're within that area you have this a new severe thunderstorm warning until nine fifteen a very heavy rainfall maybe some small hail but the most important the damaging wind gusts of a good sixty miles per hour and of course this line has been marching across listening area has a lot of history of with the wind damage a today otherwise the morning that was in effect for prince George's county has now been dropped just a few minutes early if it's now moved out of prince George's county no warning get for in a rental county but none the less on fifty three oh one some very heavy rain gear Crofton and also in your bill we just to the north were bearing down on Davidsonville rather and its racing towards the bay bridge should be reaching the bay bridge itself by about nine ten about nine fifteen this morning this line goes all the way up over Baltimore and of course down towards the nice bridge again if you were a long and west of I ninety five including the capital beltway now you were clear of the severe weather threat you're just getting some lingering rain showers and the falling temperatures is a pretty strong cold front other got rid of the dense fog this morning but it's also caused the severe weather temperatures if you're still in the fifties right now don't get used to them as they say temperatures will be falling to the forties the rest of the day many of us already have done that for the rest of the day watch for those falling temperatures overnight tonight partly cloudy skies low to mid thirties for lows a blustery night tonight especially by comparison and then for tomorrow over the weekend Saturday looks like highs in the low to mid forties same numbers for Sunday and then Monday the next round of rain will be arriving highs then will be in the low to mid fifties down way down to forty six in Haymarket still sixteen Crofton temporarily and it's down to fifty four at Washington Reagan national map the storms were moving through so quickly yes they have and and and that's one reason why we're getting severe weather because the winds aloft along this front the temperature contrast around along this front because of the very strong winds also helping to move this line very quickly from west the east the only positive thing I could think about that is that's helping to mitigate the flood threat at this thing was moving up very very slowly we be having some flash flooding right now publicly in pretty quickly from west to east looking forward to having it added here Matt thank you

Dan Bass Talks About Being Rescued

"The only thing I knew is where I saw that searchlight and I thought I'm GONNA be line it for where I saw that and I hadn't seen anything I haven't seen it since that's where I'm going and I had a really difficult time walking I had stand up maybe take one or two steps and fall down remember getting really frustrated when I'd fall records because it was not the direction I was going and I'd have to do that last bit over and it and it turns out at least my understanding is the ed when your brain is so deprived of oxygen it tries to keep as much as it can in the important parts and shuts down you have somebody or skills like legs and things and I think that's why I had such a difficult time moving my legs to begin with and then beginning to walk now the whole time this is happening there was a helicopter that was flying overhead and it was really clear to me it was flying a grid pattern because it was it was fighting e into West patterns so it would appear on the west and it would come straight over to east and then it would be gone for a few minutes and that would come back a little bit closer going the other direction and I think it made four passes that I remember the very last pass it did it food directly overhead and I was about hundred yards from the airplane I had fell down in this field and I was just kind of laying there and I just kind of gave up and the helicopter flew directly overhead and I kinda thought that if they find me that's great if they don't I don't care that's fine too I was I kind of laid down I was getting really comfortable I started warmer and then feel that bitter cold anymore and I basically kind of gave up now this is the kind of the neat part of the story as I rolled over in his late on my back and and enjoy the view of the stars and thought I'm just an here and directly overhead was constellation what's it called are cluster please or the seven sisters and I've always been drawn to a lot of people are allowed astronomers and people that look up love ladies and since I was a little kid I thought it was really neat and three years before as load my pregnant wife into our car at midnight to take your last we'll have our a baby girl and as as lowering the car she said you know we still don't have a name for this girl and I looked up and saw please and in the Cathal g they all have names e seven stars I think there's more than some seven stars and the oldest one is Maya and I said well we could call her Maya you know and that's how we ended up naming her and as I was laying in I feel and I look up and I saw please that moment three years before flashed into my brain and my memory it was the first time I I thought about who I was and what the rest of my life was like and that was just enough to get me up to get help because I figured if I try my hardest I don't get to help and don't make it it's not really sacrifice is hard as it might hurt to try to get the help if the end result is the same as me laying there it wasn't a sacrifice at all so that Kinda got me up and move in and through whatever pain struggles I was going to have and then fortunately as time went on the carbon dioxide was slowly being purged from my body and I was getting a little more strength Lamar Mental Faculty and I was able to kind of progress further after this realization I sat up and I kind of looked around reassessed the environment and I had just been going one direction and I didn't look anywhere else and this after scope the area and looked back at my airplane nine I realized that there was some woods right next to my airplane and just on the other side of the woods there was some buildings in a light and that was by far the closest structures to me so I started head back that direction I kind of made my way back to the plane I remember tapping it on the horizontal stabilizer taking it because at that point I grasp the gravity of the situation and I I really believe that the strength of the Mooney helped help save me on that one yeah they're legendary for that cabin strength in the moonies are known for that they designed it into the bill to their airplane and in this ace you're you're certainly glad they did I definitely so and you know as pilots we kind of have a a bond to our airplanes you know and we talked to him a little bit at least some of so I thanked and and then I kinda be lined it off towards that light and I was real close to these woods and the edge of the woods and there was a lot of Borussia and stuff and I remember thinking and if I was healthy and I would walk around this find a way around but I I was just pointed at point B I wanted to get to help so I decided kind of trudge through it and I got really tangled up in these these really thick brush and took a little bit to to realize that I was actually pressed against a barbed wire fence so I had I had kind of dropped down and I crawled under it then is in these woods and I had some trees which helped I can actually grab onto imbalance which was nice but I also had a lot more snow the field really windswept and didn't have much snow out but in the woods are as maybe a foot of snow that had kind of deal with but I try to kind of go from tree to tree and I'd fall down and crawl a bit and at this point I realized the gravity of how bad my hands were with the cold had zero feeling they really felt like bricks on my hands and I could move my fingers anymore and I was getting really upset that I was gonna live hi this is going to have all this damage to my hands and that really bothered me at that particular time but anyway I made it up to the the first outbuilding that I saw and kind of scurried along the edge and bounce myself on it and I got around the corner I saw house with a blue glow flicker of a TV you know in the window and it was the greatest light I've ever seen so marched over to the House and pounded on the window and and there was a wonderful lady inside who live there that the crab trees live at this house and I scared her half to death I think pounded on our window but she came in and let me in her house and and then called for help and and that's kind of where the end of the of that struggle struggle and how long do you think it queue to get from the time you started until you made it into the into the house while she made the the call and I'm Witches & Saints: Jeanne d'Albret

"Spiritual power throughout history this month or highlighting women who made incredible contributions to and through religions as well as those who were charged and punished for alleged heresies or supernatural abilities today. We're heading back to the sixteenth century. French wars of religion are women. If the day was one of the most powerful female political figures of the period alongside Queen Elizabeth I and Catherine Domenici she played a leading role in the religious conflicts that dominated the second half of the sixteenth century as the acknowledged spiritual ritual and political leader of the French huguenot movement. I'm talking about John. Dall Bray Queen of Navarre John was born in fifteen twenty eight at a royal palace outside of Paris. She was the only child of Marguerite of Navarre King Henry the second Lavar a tiny sovereign Afrin St stuck between France and Spain Henry also claimed sovereignty over a number of territories in the south of France. John's mother Marguerite Greet was an incredibly accomplished woman. She was a celebrated author of courtly novellas and spiritual works and she was also an early patron of the Protestant reformation. John was heavily influenced by her mother and was drawn to reformed Christianity specifically calvinism as well as humanist just thinking in fifteen forty seven John Married Antoine de Bourbon Duke Vendome with whom she had five children. The only to to a son and a daughter survived past childhood after the death of John's father. She antwon ruled jointly over their territories in south southwestern France. John continued to be drawn to protestantism. Even after her mother's death in fifteen forty nine on Christmas Day fifteen eighteen sixty John publicly converted to calvinism and declared calvinism the official religion of her kingdom that made her the highest ranking Protestant Austin in all of France and designated enemy of the Catholic Church and the Catholic Counter Reformation Movement after converting John joined the Huguenot movement in their fight against French Catholics. The HUGH DOTS were an ethnic religious group of French. Protestants concentrated in the south and west of France as their numbers and influence grew. The Hugo knots were persecuted by French Catholics leading to a series of religious conflicts known as the French wars of religion region fought on and off between fifteen sixty two and fifteen ninety eight when war broke out in fifteen sixty two John worked behind the scenes to fund fund the humane what's she used her own vast fortune and mobilized patronage networks. She also used her influence at the French court to plead eight for their cause. Still she stayed pretty publicly neutral during what became known as the first and second wars when the third war broke out in fifteen fifteen sixty eight John faced both the threat of a noble rebellion and Royal French invasion of her territories. John also played a major role in military activity. She even went to the battlefields. Marne Levine From D.C. to Silicon Valley

"Of our favorite things to do on this podcast pick the brain of people whose careers have really taken some unique turns and who tackled big jobs which brings us is to mark. Levin who is currently the vice president of Global Partnerships Business and corporate development at facebook previously serving as chief operating officer at Instagram and before that was in the Obama administration straight as chief of staff of the National Economic Council and Special Assistant to the president for economic policy. We can keep going back but we only have so much time Marnie. Thank you so much for doing this. Well thank you for having me. Those titles are mouthfuls. I started. I took some notes on paper. I've got just lines that that make sure I get those right but took an entire sheet. Almost it's great to be here in the Great State of Texas or we're glad you're here visiting from the Great Silicon Valley which will cover here a little bit but your career began in the great city the city of Washington DC at the Treasury Department. So how did you get started in policy in government actually think my career began in Cleveland Ohio. Which is where I was raised raised growing up I was always really interested in politics and policy and then my senior year of high school I got a job working for it was an internship working for the county commissioner. This woman named Mary Boyle who is a real fireball and that's it's really where I learned about. The role that government could play in people's lives and I was hooked immediately and my job there was to new research different proposals and to help work on casework and provide access to different kinds of get that people access to different kinds of social services that they needed which was great they also had me working on a solid Waste Management Plan. I got really into that as does so much so that I was nicknamed. Trash Queen Levin those a fortunate said of rhyming right exactly so that was the that was I think the kickoff to the career that sort of where I got the so-called bug for politics and policy and so oh then after college I moved to Washington. DC AND I ended up getting a job at the Treasury Department. This was before the Internet so so I didn't really fully understand or appreciate what the Treasury Department did but I knew that I wanted to have an impact on people's lives lives and I thought that you know government was the best road to be able to do that and that policy was kind of the best vehicle Kohl for doing that and so working at the Treasury Department where we could work on low cost basic banking accounts financial privacy things like that. I thought we could help help improve people's lives and was a great start in Holly. You spent a long career. Government is well I did I did yes thank you for pointing uh-huh and so did Hollywood you kind of have a similar experience to that in your desires yeah and you know I had a little bit of a similar experience. It was slightly later later for me where I really had not been exposed to politics. Policy is a kid that significantly other than what you just read in the news and and and learn in school and then when I was in college I interned in Congress and that kind of bug is what really turned me on to and got me into policy work as well yeah and you were you legislative affairs right I did I did policy work and then I ended up doing legislative affairs at the end because I had worked in Congress so once she working Congress they figure you know how to how to deal with members of Congress. At the Treasury Department. I started in the chief of staff office but then I would see people running up and down the hallway all day running back and forth back and forth back and forth and I would hear the click clack of heels on the on the marble floor and I thought what are they all doing and then I realized that it was negotiations with Congress and so I thought that's where I wanna be like that's where the action is working on working from the Treasury Department with people in Congress on different kinds of legislation and so that's eventually where I moved to yeah yeah it was fun because I had worked on Congress and worked on legislation that I then had to go into the administration and implement seeing both sides of in writing it and then implementing it was really interesting and not a lot of people I think have that experience of actually writing it and then having to go put it in action and figuring out what we did well and what you didn't do so well when you wrote a piece of legislation different skills knowledge and a different level of detail yeah yeah so then in two thousand eight after you're spending some time in the Treasury Department he joined the Obama Transition Team from the Bush administration Bamut Ministration and wrote about the the kind of exciting being difficult decision to take a position that really was going to suck away a lot of your time. How did you balance that in your life. Well I had worked in the Clinton administration in and I was in my twenties then and I knew how all consuming it was so I was in a very different place in my life. When Obama was elected I was married worried. I had a three year old child and then I had I had just had a baby and so I was really interested in serving and and I was very grateful to even be given being given the opportunity to serve and I wanted to play some small role in helping to address the great recession and the financial crisis that was going on so I had a conversation with my husband. He said we'll make it work work and I thought I was but what happened was pretty interesting for me. One morning I had to go into the White House late because I had to take my then three year old son to the doctors and we were driving home from the doctor's appointment and he and he said where are you taking me and and I said well. I'm going to drop you at school. You're okay and then I'm going to go to work and he said. Did you know that Matthew's mother drops him at school every morning and I said well. I don't know that Matthew's mother does that every morning but I try to take you when I can now there was at the White House. There's the seven thirty. AM senior senior staff meeting and then there's the eight fifteen am meeting which is the extended senior staff and that was the meeting. I was supposed to go to but that conflicted with taking my son to school unless I took them really early in the morning and so Monday morning rolls around after we'd had this conversation and he marches into our bathroom threw him and he says he says to me and my husband so who's taking me to school today looking straight at me no pressure and I said well. Daddy's GonNa take you to school school and he said do you remember our conference on Friday when I told you that. Matthew's mother takes him to school every morning and I I said I do remember. That husband looked at me and he said well what are you gonNA do. I said you know I think I'm going to need to take him to school in the morning. So it's interesting who your teachers are in life and in this case it was and what he was saying is. I need you in the morning and not in the evenings. which is what? I thought I he needed me dinner any we needed me for bedtime but he really wanted me first thing in the morning and so I march into work that day and I told one of my colleagues that he would would be attending the meeting he was thrilled and I started taking my son to school and when I think what I learned through all of that is I could make it work but but this was much more about quality over quantity of time together and that I really needed to listen to the feedback that my kids and my husband we're giving me about what they needed. Specifically and once I was dialed into that I was able to kind of make it all work I got into the White House. I would get there every morning at about nine fifteen in the morning which is late for ready late but the world's still turned into L. worked out Yup so Marnie after your timing government then went out to Silicon Valley and I'm curious how you found that transition. There are two very different worlds. They're different and and then there are also similarities so let's start with some of the differences. The obvious ones were the dress code I went from suits to hoodies and that was a real transient wearing jeans to work in that was that was definitely but I've now adjusted and I would say there was a difference in language to in in the government we would always say I'm going to write a memo advice. Good memo oh right away and it facebook. There would be something that would look like a memo but we would call it. A plan and there was in Washington. There was a lot of talk about fail failure legislation that had failed or didn't pass and in Silicon Valley. There was lots of discussion about pivoting okay right so there we're differences there were there are lots of differences in that regard and I would say the glaring difference was that in Washington there is a love of paper and big binders full of paper and in Silicon Valley. There's not a lot of paper around I personally brought my love of paper with me to use Silicon Valley and get teased mercilessly for it but I I would say that the similarities are as follows there are I feel like in government is a collection of best and brightest and it is a collection of people who are very mission focused and focused on doing good in the world and bringing about change and I think that in Silicon Valley there's a lot of that as well a collection of really smart people who are mission driven ribbon and trying to do good in the world affect people's lives and positive ways. I think the things that I brought with me from Washington war for you know being able to peer around corners and identify risks. That's a skill that one develops in Washington and also when you're trying to get something being done in a vast government is that you need to have process and you need to bring all stakeholders to the table and have conversations and be able to synthesize emphasized that to come up with the best policy recommendations in Silicon Valley things move pretty quickly and in scaling organizations what you WanNa do is apply just enough process so that you can get the best of thought from everybody but not so much process that you really slow everything down and I think I brought some of those skills from Washington continue to facebook when I started there in two thousand ten you obviously very senior woman in silicon in valley and you and your friend and colleague Sheryl Sandberg have really been a promoter of women in the C. Suite Talk to me about that issue and why you're you're passionate about it and what you encourage other women to do and how how to how to think about their roles well I think for me. It's all about connection community among women from the earliest days. I've always really enjoyed getting together with women and I just I've I draw strength from that and I've seen what happens with other women when they are connected. When I was in business school early on there there was a woman in my section we all didn't really know each other very well and she had just gotten engaged in so I suggested hey why don't we all get together and come over to my apartment and will toast Christine but at the same time you know we'll get together and talk about things and get to know each other and what was so interesting we made up at that the point I think less than twenty percent of the of the class of our group and when we when we came into the classroom the next morning there were a a lot more women who were speaking up a lot more women who were building off of each other's comments and they felt more confident as though I think that was one of the Times where I really saw or how that connection and feeling of community could be empowering for other people and then things like my book club where we actually would read the book and discuss it would also became kind of my leaning circle that Cheryl started the lean in circles and that's really about relying on one another connecting acting sharing and helping each other make important decisions in in one's

"You hear? Hey, michael. Hey, guys. Hey, Mike Schmidt. Mark was at it's nine fifteen on Thursday night. You've both now spent about ten hours reading the Muller report. Tell me about this thing, it's breathtaking document. It's over four hundred pages of detailed, insights and accounts of enormous issues. We've been focused on over the past two years, it's divided into essentially two halves one four Russia. One for the president's actions in office in other words, collusion and obstruction. Those are the two buckets, right? The first half de tailing, the contact between Russians and Trump advisors isn't enormously revealing in the sense that we. We had already heard some weeks ago that there had not been a criminal conspiracy found by mower at the same time. There's an enormous amount of detail concluding that in the midst of this really historic effort by the Russians to sabotage the election. Hacking leaking of emails social media manipulation fake news. It says that the Trump campaign welcomed this. They saw a real benefit of what the Russians were doing. Even if at the end of the day, there wasn't an active conspiracy. He's essentially saying that they were interested. They sought out information about emails they wanted to know more about how they could get their hands on these messages, they welcomed all this. But they never crossed the line into breaking the law just because they saw it out the fruits of the Russian hack doesn't mean that they were part of the crime and. Just to be very clear. How is what you're describing collectively not collusion. Well, we need to be careful because the attorney general said that there was no collusion. And the president said there was no collusion. But the Muller report is more nuanced and the mullahs report says, you know, this collusion word doesn't really mean. Anything to us. There's no legal standard of collusion. So we're going to look at is what is it crime in that is conspiracy. And that's what we have to judge all of this voluminous evidence against and they said that a conspiracy is two parties acting together in concert to break the law, and what Muller is very clear about is that there is insufficient. Evidence of a conspiracy. He is not saying there was nothing. He is not saying full exoneration. But he's saying there was insufficient. Evidence to meet the standard that he had established of a cr-. Criminal conspiracy. Breaking the law, and what would Muller have needed to see for this to add up to conspiracy. That would've looked like a conversation between the Trump campaign and the Russians where the Trump campaign was saying, hey, guys, can you go break into the DNC and steal some emails. So we can then get them out. And embarrassed the Democrats in help us politically during the campaign that would have gotten you down the conspiracy path and they did not find that. Let's talk about obstruction Mike last time. We talked a couple of weeks back Muller had sent his report to bar and bar. It's a summary of that report to congress in advance of this full report, and the most confusing thing about that summary was at Muller had not made a call on whether the evidence added up to obstruction of Justice. And today we get to see what Muller's explanation is for why he didn't make a determination. Whether the president broke the law, and it's not clear cut. Would it essentially is is that the president under Justice department policy cannot be indicted, and because the president cannot be indicted. It's unfair to accuse him while he's in office of breaking the law because there's no way for him to go to court to defend himself. So dear American public Muller, essentially says I am not going to make a determination on that issue that could be made after the president leaves office. But for now that would be on fair. So what I will do is. I will lay out for you. What I found what the potential obstruction was why it may be illegal and after the president. Leaves office. The Justice department could make a determination that he indeed broke the law and bring a case in at the end of explaining why a determination was not made Muller says if we had confidence after a thorough investigation of the facts that the president clearly did not commit obstruction of Justice. We would so state based on the facts, and the applicable legal standards. However, we are unable to reach that judgment. So Muller's basically saying if we felt comfortable that the prison had done nothing wrong. We would tell you, and we are not telling you that you mentioned the incidents that he was not gonna use as a basis for charging the president because he voted couldn't charge president. What were those that he laid out in that report will there's about a dozen? And they follow in chronological order. How Trump misled the public about his relationship with Russia misled the public about his knowledge that Russia was behind the hacks and as the prisons he goes on and Muller's appointed in may of twenty seventeen right after he takes office. The president starts to sort of lose his grip as he tries to maintain control of the investigation. He was intent on using his power as the head of the executive branch to protect himself and use the tools at his disposal. The people running the Justice department, the FBI the intelligence community. To help protect him from this investigation. And what are some examples of that? Specifics will Alana them or ones that we know will the firing of James Komi, his efforts to get his attorney general Jeff Sessions to unrequir- himself in the Russian vitiation, essentially reassert his control over something that he has stepped aside from because he has a conflict of interest in when the president can't get that done. He basically tries to get rid of sessions and install a loyalist atop the Justice department. These are things that have been reported in the press, we get a fuller richer picture of them, and we really see what the president was saying behind closed doors in the immense pressure. He was putting on people to try and use the system to protect himself from the system. But then we learn about incidents that we knew little about like how the president went compl-. -pletely outside of his administration in government to Corey Lindau ski his first campaign manager, and he leaned on Corey in the summer of twenty seventeen to try and pressure sessions, his attorney general, so here's the president United States using someone who doesn't even work for him. To get two sessions and try and get sessions out there publicly to help clear Trump's name, it's just a remarkable way of using presidential power, which suggests that the president was meeting resistance within his own administration, and therefore reached out to somebody who didn't even work for the government to try to get him to achieve this end. I don't think many in the public will want to hold up the president's aids as heroes and a lot of them are probably not. But there is a picture here of folks that stopped the president time and time again and throw it at him from doing things that may have actually gotten him into trouble that may have crossed that line. That may have made a stronger argument for Muller. About why the president did obstruct Justice one of the most detailed ones is on Trump's efforts to get rid of Muller. And how White House counsel would not do that? He would not call the Justice department on the president's behalf and say Muller has to be removed for what the White House counsel Dom again that we're some bogus reasons trumpet cooked up about why he didn't like Muller recognizes questions a little bit meta. But if getting rid of Muller had meant that the report was never completed wouldn't that have finally been obstruction of Justice? Because literally an investigation was obstructed. There. Does seem to be a determination here about the success of the president's efforts or lack of success that the fact that the Muller investigation continued and finished means there is less of a case that the president of structured Justice. If there had been more of a Nick Sonian moment where there was a eighteen minute gap in tapes deliberately erase that. There was some tangible thing that had happened that had meant that. Prosecutors couldn't get to the truth. There might possibly have been a different judgment and a different outcome. So the president really has these people around him to think in a lot of ways at the end of the day. There were these folks that were not going to go that extra inch and go over the line for him. And it looks like those measures probably saved.
