"You know everything is moving toward U. S. B. C. For instance, on the Mac book, Um, and everything is moving toward Bluetooth connectivity for the iPhone. So you know, eventually, I think Apple and vision People just using Bluetooth earbuds or headphones with their iPhone and you know all of their accessories that they need to plug into their Mac books will be U. S. B. C, which that support that Apple is using for Max, but we're just like weird. Transitionary period where, you know, a lot of people still use headphones that you need to plug into the headphone Jack. And a lot of people have stuff to plug into their Mac book. But, you know, isn't u. S. B. C So I think we're moving towards that. But the period in between us Just really awkward. Exactly. And expensive. Kaylin and expensive Alright McGary Gizmodo, Senior Editor Consumer technology. Thanks so much for your time this morning. Yeah, they grabbed me. Yeah, I'm keeping my iPhone 8415 80 88 10. How excited are you? I mean, do these events Are you just marketed on your calendar like Oh, yes, because I know I mean Ronn Owens, longtime host on KGO. He loved these kinds of gadget releases and things like that. He was always getting the latest greatest thing me. I mean, you literally have to drag me kicking and screaming to spend. I don't know how much on the phone that's still not giving me the one feature that I want, like it took forever for me to talk myself into getting the new MacBook Pro. And the only reason I did it because my other one died like dead dead so Yeah. No, I won't be buying any new apple products. That's for sure. I will say this. I think that when you do upgrade to a new iPhone, you're going to be blown away like 2030. Yeah, I know. It will be easy to blow you away at that time. Um, but the other thing too, is I think Unless you are an uber apple fan. I think apple phone users are multigenerational. So in other words, yes, you go from, for instance, I did what you did or what you will do. I promise you I went from an iPhone eight. I believe to an iPhone. 11 and so and so and I'll probably I'll probably read it. Wait another couple of generations before upgrading another one, right just to your guests point. I mean, I mean, what What do you think? And here's a great question for 15 80 88 10. What is the thing that makes you bite the bullet and get a new phone? It can't And please, if you're one, it's a new generation and I have to have it. If you're one of those people, please explain it to me. You're thinking on why you do that. But if you're not if you're not those people What is it? Because they're expensive phones we're not talking about. Oh, it's you know, $100. I mean, that's a lot of money. And then, of course, the data plan and everything that you need for it. I had a listener text in Apple should be listening to people like us from the flora weight. I lose my ear buds all the time. Bring back the headphones. Thank you. Thank you And the people like Oh, you can you can get headphones that have the Jack that's similar to your charging cord. Except that I can't charge my phone. Uh, people give me the whole that I want. I want to do you hear me? I hear you. I'm making myself clear. All right, just just for fun. I I looked up the first iPhone. Mhm brick. It's a break. It's thick, right. It's like, really just kind of write the looking. Yeah, just I have it at home, actually in my drawer, But apparently it's going on eBay for $18,000. People are stupid. That's why because people are stupid. All right, let's go to the phones for 15 80 88. Ted Jenny is calling from cinema. Okay, Jenny, I don't annoy Mark Nieto by mentioning this every time he does an apple product story. I want my headphone Jack. I want it. I want it. I'm never I'm never going. To get it. Do you like your headphone Jack? Do you want it back? Oh, heck out. The funny thing is Iona early Mid 2012 Apple. Mac Book Pro that has a CD DVD driving it and it How did I and I still have one and I use it all the time, and I love it. And the fact that has Jack is great, But I on the android cellphone and the fact that there is no Jack in the ultra 21. Plus writes me crazy because when you have a Bluetooth, you get a charge you put away and then when you're ready to go use it. It's frigging dead and you can't plug it in anywhere because you're you don't have any have fun to plug in because there's no Jack. Exactly. That's what I'm saying. Jenny, thank you. That's my point Apple and I know that I'm really to nobody that's listening to me. I mean, I know people agree with me. Nobody had Apple is going to do this for me, unfortunately, but it's not user friendly, and that's what I thought Apple was. Apple always prided itself itself on this user interface that was so intuitive and so easy to use. You know, it's not easy to do. Digging in my wallet for that stupid freaking dongle every time I want to wear my ear, Buzz, stupid. I got you. I got you wireless headphones. Oh, yeah, Just like Jenny said every time I want them, they're not charged. You know what I never needs charging my wired earbuds. Never have to think about it there for me. Morning noon and night. Doesn't even matter. Don't need any power. Just need ear holes. Let's go to Kevin. He's calling from Burlingame. Good morning, Kevin. What are your thoughts? Kevin in Burlingame breads. Listen up, Kevin, You're on the air. Go ahead. Hi. I've got a few things for you to think about number one, The headphone Jack. Water. That's the main reason they got rid of it. Um, number two. You know the bones get you can't use them anymore for certain apps..

"Students have not been unmasked and within six ft. Close contact for more than 15 minutes. Okay, because at 15 minutes then all of a sudden all the stricter guidelines come into place. Was that kid quote unquote exposed. Uh, for for 15 minutes or longer, So by making it 14 minutes, they're complying with this, And they could say no, they were not exposed for to someone with Covid for 15 or more minutes. It'll be like a bunch of Joey Chestnut's on campus, just shoveling down their lunch. Well, I mean, how long does it take? Honestly, be honest. How long do you think it takes you to eat lunch? I mean, if I'm in if you're sitting down and just eating, they just eat, not jibber jabbing. You know what I mean? Okay, not in a social environment, but just eating lunch. I could probably I can probably get a sandwich down and maybe five or eight minutes. Yeah, right. I would say 10 minutes or so is a reasonable amount of time. I definitely think the hardest thing personally for my kids is the The different times to eat lunch. So some kids play first before they eat and some eat first before they play so that they're staggered right? Okay, and which makes sense because you don't want all of these kids at one time, there's not enough room for spacing. The problem is, I think if you ask most kids, they want to eat first and play second, right? You're let out. You're hungry. You want to eat and then you want to go play. I bet If you ask teachers, though, they like it the other way around. Go play, Get all the energy out. Eat. Then you're already calming down from the from the play and then go into the classroom to learn, right. I don't have any idea just off the top of my head, but that's what I would want to do. Yeah, but you know if you're active after you eat lunch, there's a head in danger there as well. Don't you think you'll upset your The kids will upset their stomachs. They're they're not resting after they eat. I think that they're young enough. They'll be just fine. Okay, Don't run around Billy. You might get an upset stomach now. I don't think that's the biggest problem whatsoever. President Biden is also putting $2 billion towards something I've been saying for quite a while. Which is purchasing those rapid covid tests, So they're going to go to health centers, food banks, schools I've mentioned on the show before in my closet right there. I have about three boxes of these covid test. There's two test in each box, and I'm just keeping it their case. One of these damn kids wakes up and starts coughing and sniffling all over the place. We have to know. And we have to know now and so how much should I set you back? Do you recall there about 30 Bucks appears 2028 Bucks a box And so I was also reading. I don't know if it was in the same story as the President Biden's announcement. About selling them at cost to people. So not you know what I'm saying? Money off of it, right? Yeah. Which you know, I'll say this. I talk about people and exploiting people and making money and all these corporations that should just be doing it for their own goodwill. 28 bucks for two Tests doesn't seem that bad. Although I do think that I like the idea that President Biden announced for people that can't afford it. To be able to have access to these rapid tests, but also just having them at school. Kinda fills that need as well right so the family can afford it. At least they know if they send their kids to school and they, you know, start not feeling well. The school can test the kids and then everybody knows then, but it's this notification. That I think is also a little bit difficult to navigate. Uh, my son has had not. He's not been exposed. I've never received the phone call, but he knows of kids at a school apparently. That have contracted Covid kids, kids, not staff, Okay, And so apparently there find that we haven't had any more serious news. Other than that, except the fact that the kid has to Be at home, but I'm wondering Do I want the phone call or do I not want the phone call? Because sometimes I'm like. Well, if you know the kid how close were they to you? Um, because you come home. You hung up on me. I send you here. I mean, it's just I don't know what we would do in our household if we had an exposure. I mean, do you have a plan If you get exposed if your daughter or your wife comes home Are you guys going to isolate from each other? Yeah, I would want the phone call definitely from school district or whoever learns that through contact tracing that one of us has been exposed. I would want to know that so that you can isolate yourself and take actions. In that way. Would you be able to isolate yourself? Let's just say calcium to your wife. Comes up is exposed. Maybe they don't even have that series the symptoms, but they have it. What are you gonna do? I would isolate myself. Absolutely, but I mean, you have a room like that's what? I've had this conversation with my husband. He thinks he's going to lock me in this room, which isn't even seals. Why? Because that's where the microphone is. Yeah, He's like, Oh, he's like, I don't care that you have. This virus is killing people. You keep working woman, Um, which is fine, except it's not shut. It's an open room. So you know it's all of these things People need to think about. They need to be prepared about another thing, and I keep reiterating this. Is we talk about this because of the fact that people want to go about their lives. You want to go to concerts? You want to go to baseball games? You want to go to football games, right? You want all of these things to happen? And God, If you watched last night's game, the side of the NFL season you would think that Covid wasn't even around anymore with the crowds that we were seeing their, um I watched it. Uh, spoiler alert. You should know by now. Tampa Baby Dallas. Barely. It was a close game for pretty much, all of it. I have Tom Brady as my quarterback on my fantasy football team Fantasy football team. Uh, well. Dallas.

The key thing about that term as it means, yes, remain ready to evacuate again, if needed. That's not to say that we believe it's likely It's just, you know, an abundance of caution and we want to ensure if we do have a flare up, that's unexpected that we we have the ability to expedite the evacuation process. More than 700 homes have been lost since the fire broke out. But Brown tells the morning show with Mickey Maduro that 85% of the burn zone has been surveyed and no homes have been lost in the Tahoe Basin. "Org and donate if you can, Heidi, thanks so much for your time this morning. Thank you so much. Absolutely. I just You know, it must be surreal to be in a situation like that at the cow door fire, so frightening and then you know, right before you go out, you know, have some of these dogs just lighten the mood. And it isn't it amazing, though, how they could just completely change your outlook on the day. Oh, no doubt. And it's the reason why places like U. C. Berkeley during finals week they'll bring out not only dogs will bring out llamas for me for the students to pet. Uh, that's kind of cool. It's just a stress reliever for them, And I can't imagine, you know, because you're weeks on end. All hours of the day and night. It's got to be pretty lonely and says to have there's something about having a companion just even just a visit. And it's almost better that it's just a visit because you don't have to take care of it, right. Oh, yeah, no, I just like, go. You have the fun part of having the dog there, right. You don't have to worry about any of the mess after, But these are the things that can really just help a firefighter go out again and again day after day. I briefly had. It was briefly mentioned with Carol chaplain last half hour from the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority. I mean, from dogs to bears. That's one thing you don't want to say. I I mean, Have you been watching some of these videos? Obviously, if people are not there The Bears will play and they're being moved out of their areas because of the fires. But you're being advised to not approach the bear as if anybody needed to be told that, but the number of calls that they've been getting from Like ring cameras and security cameras around the homes of people seeing bears in their pools and bears everywhere. But there was also this woman who used her security camera. To actually thank some of the firefighters that were protecting her home. Apparently she saw them there because she was obviously checking and I saw some firefighters and told them like here's where I hide the key. Going in, Relax, do what you need to do. And I just think that that's absolutely amazing for the community to step up for these firefighters as well. Yeah, it's also a great tool to see if your house is okay. Exactly. You had a kgo listener, I think last week Talking about their second home in the Tahoe basin and logging into the door cam and seeing what looked like fireflies instead, here was ash. I know. I mean, it's one of those things. Where do you want to see it? Or do you not want to see it? I mean, my house is fine, Yes. If it's slowly burning that I would not want to say that, But again if you want to help help fund that nonprofit, based out of Marin sets a Bay Area nonprofit to help these first responders. Just go to first responders, therapy dogs dot org and make a donation. Alright, Right. Have you ever tried to tell someone else's joke and it just did not land properly all the time. I am terrible at regurgitating jokes. You're like I love it. My problem is is all start laughing about the joke as I'm trying to tell it, and then nobody. It's never as funny as my laugh. Would make you believe it is. It's just funnier to me. But anyways, the reason I bring this up is, uh, Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly. He tried to do just this. He tried to make a joke. It did not land. Well, He wasn't even close, though. Okay? So here is Brian Kelly, who has been questioned by a reporter about the game Now just to set this up for you. His team had a huge lead. They almost blew it, but they were able to hold on. What did you think of your team's ability to withstand Florida? State's impressive comeback? Yeah..

"Obviously, I'm sure you're aware of the criticism with that withdrawal. The American soldiers and the lives that were lost their I guess, just your thoughts. And where does America go from here? After going through all of that film and the interviews and putting this documentary together, you know, where do we go? When we Had 9 11. We had everything that we've learned about our government between then and now And now, of course, January 6th that was led by a big lie spread by our former president and our failure to bring democracy to another country like Afghanistan. I mean, where do we go as a nation? I think by any definition make a year you're describing a country that's broken half of us. Don't believe the last election worked out. Apparently, uh, it's it's pretty amazing when you go back and look at it. And you think about where do we go from now? I I think you know you worry if you're us, and you've watched what happened when we pulled out of Iraq now we pulled out of Afghanistan. You know that Over the last 20 years, Al Qaeda has gotten just bigger. Isis has spread all over the north of Africa. And now everything is heading back into Afghanistan, where the 9 11 hijackers and Osama bin Laden came from well, that part of the world and other parts of the world when America has really literally Step completely back are in play again. So there's a lot to worry about. Democracy is under assault. Worried about the coming election in 2022, we don't know what we can trust. From our elected leaders is a huge economy of what the argument is about. Um and under the world there's no longer believes were the paragons of virtue, Truth and justice. So it's a very difficult and challenging next few years in the United States of America, and a lot of it can be attributed to what happened in the last 20 years. Michael Kirk and check out his new documentary America After 9 11. You can watch it tonight at nine o'clock on Channel nine in San Francisco, Channel six in Sacramento, and it's available at PBS dot org. Michael Thank you so much for joining me this morning. Thank you, Nikki. And, yeah, again. This Saturday. We at five o'clock, I believe I'm correct. KGO will have a special show with John Rothman and Pat Thurston hosting it where we look back and share our own memories from 9 11. Day 15 on KGO. Let's take it a little bit closer to home as well and talk about the caldera fire. I'm joined right now with the president and CEO of the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority. Carol Chaplain Carol Thank you so much for coming on with me. Um, A lot of people had Lake Tahoe in their summer plans with their end of summer plans. Um, can you just talk a little bit about? I know some people were allowed to return this weekend. Obviously, the fires are still going. The smoke is still there. Um, and what it's like for people as they slowly return. Yeah. Good morning. Thank you for having me this morning. Um, Yeah, So we We got some great news on Saturday, Actually, on Friday and Saturday Kings very great over on the state line. Area was downgraded to warning and then on Saturday, most of the South Lake Tahoe destination was downgraded to warning. We still have a couple of evacuation areas, Christmas Valley and Myers, which were the most threatened And continue to be monitored by firefighters. Um, so it's It's quiet. I mean, people are coming back, and it's very you know, it's uh It's very hopeful you're right. The smoke is still there and, um and you've probably heard that we have our wildlife who was a little bit displaced and also saw small opportunities, So I think people are are dealing with With the you know the best and and the most interesting parts of tall right now. Absolutely. I mean, yeah, we've seen the videos of the Bears. They're kind of taking advantage of the empty vacation homes out there in South Lake Tahoe. Let's talk about how Lake Tahoe recovers. I think anybody especially here in California, we love South like to how the whole Lake Tahoe area we wanted to to bounce back from these fires. Can you first put into perspective for us kind of the economic loss of losing? Let's just say a holiday weekend like Labor Day. Well, you know, we're having a little bit of a hard time quantifying that, But I did talk to the city of South Lake Tahoe and in about a four week period in that August September range it was about 4.2 million in taxes more like 40 million in lodging and restaurant and retail that that doesn't that doesn't include Labour wages at all. You know, that's that's really very conservative, but it gives you an idea of what what happens in, um during a busy month. I I couldn't really speak to just the weekend, but certainly it was It was a strong weekend force. But honestly, you know, September has become very strong Per you know for us, generally speaking with more flexible schedules, and you know schools doing different things so Um so, Labor Day weekend? Definitely an impact. Um, September. Definitely even more of an impact as well. Okay, so as we move forward to the rest of the year and of course into the winter, I know some people like didn't make Lake Tahoe their destination for the winter time. They're going to go to the ski resorts and things like that, Um, do you think that some of this loss can be made up in the winter? And are you guys kind of do you expect that at least some of these resorts to offer? Maybe deals to and ties even more people to come to kind of make up for what's been lost in August and early September. Well, it's interesting that you talk about winter because I think we would all like to fast forward just a little bit. I think that there's so some late fall. We're certainly we would love to get some early snowfall and get into the winter. It'll just be a completely different landscape for us literally. You know, the ski resorts actually have been some great, um, annual past deals in the past..

We were just talking about this before the show. She's never seen it. But it is hands down one of the best series to watch and it was because of actors like Michael K. Williams. He portrayed Omar little Which and it's not really a spoiler alert. His role was he would rob drug dealers. That's who Omar. Little was. He was also gay. And so there was this whole kind of conflicting, uh, detail in the character that Michael K. Williams portrayed. Brilliantly. Here is a little of him playing Omar Little in the wire to why'd you step up on this trifle and basically killing everyday working man and all We don't get it twisted. I do some dirt, too, but I ain't never put my gun on Nobody who wasn't in the game. Man must have a code. Don't no doubt. He was every scene that he was in. He was captivating. I mean, it was just I mean, that was his breakout role. He has been in so many other things. He was in Boardwalk Empire, which Stephen Samis in it. I started watching that series. I haven't finished it, but I know that it was good. Let's see using the night of he's up for an Emmy for Lovecraft Country. Um, it's in these had roles in many things community. He had a small role in that, um, it's just so sad. He's been very honest about His drug addictions, even said while he was playing the wire that it was hard for him because of the the use of drugs and and just being so enveloped in that character. But apparently it hasn't been determined What killed him? Although he was found with heroin on his table, and so many people are saying that he most likely overdosed. I mean, he's only in his fifties. He was 54 years old. What an amazing an amazing actor. So if you haven't seen the wire, be part of the small group like I was not too long ago. I really urge you to watch it. He is absolutely amazing in it. There's I mean, and if you watch the wire We will go away by how many people are in it. Michael B. Jordan is in it. I mean, the cameos of people that have been in the wire. I think it had four or five seasons. I mean, it's an hour long show, so it's going to take you a while to get through it. But once I started the wire, I could not stop watching it. And so it's definitely one of those things that chip Always likes to hang over my head of being right about because there's so few things, so he was definitely right about the wire have seen it. No, I've never seen it. But I did think of you guys over the weekend, and I was wondering if you ever admitted to him that you actually picked up the remote and watched it. Oh, yeah, the minute I started watching it. I gave him props. I was absolutely Yeah. When he's right about something all I made it and he was definitely right about the wire. It is. An amazing show. Another amazing show. I gotta squeeze the same was homeland. Okay? Uh, Mandy Patent Kin is in that and he's in a million things. If you saw his picture, you would know exactly who he is. But what Russia China started last night. So, um, but then not that this has to do with that. But he is saying a prayer in Hebrew to his dog because it settles the dog from separation anxiety, and I think it is absolutely adorable. So here is Mandy Patent Kin is singing a pre meal prayer. To his dog. Let us say Oh, man, look at her denial on hold home. A more similar them in. All right. Oh, okay. There you have it. Morning meal do the same thing for evening meal. Yeah, every day and it's a prayer for her for me for you for the whole world. I figured the perfect time to pray for the whole world twice today, morning and evening as some on behalf of Becky's wishes for the world. And Becky's his dog. And so, Yeah, there's a really, really cute prayer and, uh, acute ritual that he does there with his dog already got one person convinced threat Somebody texted in that they're going to lazy dog. When they heard about my fried deviled eggs. Is that right? Yeah. Doing you will not be disappointed. I am telling you all right, coming up after the bottom of the hour news, unemployment benefits they ended on Labour Day I'll be speaking with ABC News correspondent Catherine Faulder..

"Why Why does it not? But it seems like the rich are untouchable. Oh, it's okay that they make 600% more than the bottom paid worker. That's that's just being CEO. Really. Really, because I'm kind of sensing that we can maybe afford to pay people better. The CEO just doesn't need to get paid so much million and a percentage wise to their paying fewer taxes. Well, of course. Well, it's just they just get all of the brakes. I mean, because it's supposed to trickle down to all of us lowly people. Yes, it is now. All right. This is from the 95 cases in the Bay area are the second highest. They've been at any point in the pandemic. I believe there should be better protections for landlords, especially mom and pop landlords. But to put all the burden on tenant is irresponsible. And this person says they are mom and pop landlord of one unit in and out Burger is still cheap and they start above $15 an hour. I think they're I think they're like 20 bucks an hour in and out Burger. I think I might be wrong on that. But I will say that every time I go to one in Al Burger, the employee seems so happy to be there. Yes, it's amazing. It's amazing. Amazing Pay people, all right, a good wage to do a job. And you might be able to retain them. It's you know, and I know I'm going to start getting taxed messages. Minimum wage is not supposed to be a living wage, except people are supposed to live on it because we want people to work in these jobs. That's I don't want to repeat myself. You guys know how I feel this person from the 415 asking me a very personal question. Nikki, do you make the same salary as your male coworkers? Uh, full disclosure were union. So I make at least as much as my co workers. Right? So there you go, Go union shops, which I am a huge union supporter for that reason. Let's go to Brian. He's calling KGO from Fremont. So, Brian, you know, everyone always says. Well, if we raise the wages of low paid workers, and we're going to pay so much for things, and but I always say, you know, there's money there. There is they could distribute the wealth of a company better to their employees. What are your thoughts? My thought is, you know a little bit different. Um, I'm a small business owner. I've got a couple of locations. And I don't hire people, not many minimum wage, but we do. What happens with me and other business owners is It's not the pay of some CEO of Amazon that they're looking at when they're choosing the prices for their products, But it's the McDonald's You mentioned with the Big Mac or it's me or it's different places. Let's say I have a payroll. I need to cover and it's not the top guys pay that is dictating the price of the products. It's the lowest people that dictate the pay and One thing I wanted to add is the lowest payroll does dictate how much things cost. Mhm and, uh Oh, Sorry, I'm losing my train of thought. But the other thing is that trickles up because I'm in a service industry where I've got people who are a little bit above the minimum wage. And when that gets raised up, they look at that and say Hey, in our service industry, we know more than those people. We should get paid more now because we shouldn't be the same. So so now my service industry we're having to raise these higher percentages than we've had to ever before. In previous years. The minimum wage is not intended to be a living wages, high school people, It's people getting trained at McDonald's. You only have high school people you have only you only have high school people working for you, Brian. No, I do not. But I do have some. Yes, and okay, and I understand for people to learn how to get work skills and move up the ladder it but they're not Brian, and I'm sorry to cut you off. I'm sorry to cut you off because I have to My point is this it's all fine and dandy. The same minimum wage is only for high school students, and it's a stepping stone. That's not what's happening in reality. Stop this false narrative Adults with families are being paid minimum wage. This is K G o K G 08 10 fan mail on the Mark Thompson show. Thank you.

"From the Medicare fund. Um, it's just that This is where politicians go really wrong. You know, you get a good idea, and it's like Retz Rob the medical fund. It's already tax instead of trying to find another way to pay for it. So that's my view on it. Just absolutely terrible to take it from a fund that's already overtaxed that takes care of people who need Just the basic of medical needs. Yeah, I think. All right. Thanks, Frank. Yeah. I mean, where we get the money that will always be up for discussion. And maybe we could find it in a different way. You know, obviously the state and the Feds fund certain programs. So can we take some of those funds are re, you know, divert certain funds into this location. He's gonna mark he's calling from Fremont. So Mark should California following the federal government's footsteps as they do with military veterans and pay people to stay sober. I I think I'm okay with that. I think it should be a study. I think we shouldn't do it forever. We should do it and get some statistically meaningful data from it and then go back in the side if we want to continue to spend money or waste money. Because the data in the metrics tell everything so if we're going to test if we're going to do this to 100 people, we can look at the outcome of 100 people over time. Then we decided if this is meaningful expense otherwise, and we're throwing money in the wind, and sometimes these guys they know how to bribe. That's one of the politicians know how to deal with cash in and driving people a lot of time. They have ideas by just giving money to fix the problem, and but that might work. I was like, Yeah, I think you're absolutely right. Mark. Thanks for your call. Yeah, there definitely needs to be maybe a trial similar to the guaranteed income program that's going on in places like Oakland and others, like See what happens. We don't know what's going to happen. But if it does keep people off drugs like the example I gave 11 years clean, sober $330. That's a good our ally. If you ask me, right, let's go to Colleen calling from Cloverdale. So Colleen, the federal government right now does this for military veterans. They pay them to stay clean. Do you think that this should be expanded to the general public? Well, so I'm working homeless services and we we worked with a number of veterans programs and the veterans throw a lot of supportive services at the people who have drug addiction their case managers, for example, they upwards of $90,000 a year and they have vast vouchers. Veterans assistant supportive housing If there was an equivalent if there were equivalent supportive services attached. I think it might work. It sounds like the people that it's worked with have already gotten to that place of willingness and maybe our early on in the progression of their disease. But if we're thinking that a couple $100 is going to get somebody off, you know out of the from underneath the overpass is who's so far gone, that they probably need some sort of other intervention. I don't I don't know that that would work. Yeah, and I and I and thank you for your call Colleague. Yes, I'm the part of the program that would be mimicked would also include obviously some sort of counseling and and things to kind of get to the core issue of, you know, basically your addiction and what caused that You know, obviously with the military, it likely comes in many times from what they've done during their military career, but absolutely correct. I mean, if we're just going to give people money and not give them any sort of supportive services To get over their addiction to give them the tools to fight the addiction, then, yes, that it is a complete waste of money, One person says. You know, it's just another handout. Another government and other needs to be some sort of control over it. And then we got kind of into a heated conversation about minimum wage, and I just have to mention because he doesn't get this much love. At least he didn't from me. Apparently John Daly, my amazing producer. Someone is a big supporter of John Daly's point. John Daly is exactly right. So we just raise everyone's wages. That's inflation and then the lowest earner is no matter if the lowest wages $100 an hour. Everything is going to be more expensive. That's just a fact. And they said, Would you be fine with KGO hiring someone off the street that didn't get a college education or do their time in other areas of reporting or broadcasting to do your job at the same pay as you just because they needed to get paid enough to live? To that. I say. I don't know. Everybody is education at the station. Maybe there are people that are okay. I don't know and two. What's the alternative? See Capitalism requires certain people to always be poor. Apparently, is that is that the society that we want to live in? I've been called the Communist one too many times on the text line this morning as well. The communist she's left of Bernie. That's good. You guys are quick. No, I understand. What should people might think that I don't believe that. Don't you should? I don't believe that. And I don't believe I'm a communist. I believe that there needs to be more control. The system needs to be changed. There is a way I believe for the government to regulate pay. Could it be tied, for instance, to CEO pay and stock options and and the the increase in Stop? Why should the CEO only benefit in his or her pay based on the rising of stock, and the employees aren't why can't the rules change to make it more equitable? I'm not saying the lowest paid worker at a company needs to be paid just as much as this. CEO. But why can't there be some sort of regulation where there isn't a 506.

When reached for a comment, Snoop said, Stop robbing my bubble, baby, Bubba. That's clever. All right, so we were talking about The federal eviction moratorium that obviously the U. S. Supreme Court has ended that here in California. We still have protection until what? October 1st after October 1st. Then landlords can go after tenants for unpaid rent. So 415 80 88 10. Do you think that one October first is too long, Do you not? And what do you think about this idea that, according to The New York Times about 89% of rental assistance funds from the federal government Have not been distributed. Do you blame the state? Do you blame people that just aren't taking advantage? Or don't know that some of these programs are available? Do you know that the programs are available? You don't know how many people on social media I educate almost on a weekly, if not daily basis about the fact that you can get 100% of your background rent paid here in California. I mean, they just act like that. There's no money. There's no help for renters or landlords. And that's not the case. And I don't know. I mean, obviously, they're not listening to me hard enough. But is this a failure of getting the message across? What do you think is going on here? It's the website is housing dot CIA dot gov. Really simple. How do you not see a dot Gov You can find all the help there. I mean, it's free cash, and I'll show you where there is exactly I mean, there's obviously you have to You have to do certain things. It's not like you Just give somebody a call. You have to just, you know, turn informs. I have been hearing some stories of where landlords are trying to get it get the assistance, but the renters not taking advantage of it. Okay, So, uh, this is what you need. Um, if you are unable to pay your rent between September 1st of last year in September 30th of this year because again after the end of September these protections and and you can be taken a small claims court for your rental assistance, so your landlord must provide a pay or quit notice to you with proper documentation. If within 15 days of receiving that notice, you return to your landlord, your declaration of a financial distress form and are considered to be eligible. You cannot be evicted. Okay, so you have to send in these forms. Um, let's see your landlord may ask for supporting documentation to your form if your annual income is more than 130% of the median household income. See this income thing is a real sticking point that people need to remember. It doesn't matter if you made you know $200,000 a year before the pandemic. If you lost your job, and you had no savings. You don't have money. You know, it's it's one of those things. But somebody had text it in and you can text in as well as four and 5 80 88 10, they said. So when all these people from the other 49 states get evicted and winters looming, Where do you think they're going to go? Hello, California? I don't know if that's necessarily going to happen. It's quite a big move. To move to California. I get what you're what you're saying. You know, It's kind of like the homeless thing, right? Where? Where else would you want to live? If you're homeless somewhere with nice, nice weather, right? California is one of those places. Let's go to the phones for 15 80 88 10 and start with David, who is calling from Sacramento. Okay, David. So the U. S Supreme Court is ending the federal eviction moratorium here in California. We have until the end of September. What are your thoughts? Great, good job. The fact is there on $1200 300 dollars weekly benefits on top of their $1800 there, which is $3000 a month. You know, that must be nice when I when I worked for the last four years without calling in sick when they're out there on medical marijuana plants out there, buying there. Find their damn marijuana instead of taking personal responsibility, obtain their rent or basically going out there not paying the registration on the car. It's time to cut them off. There's too many jobs out there where they can start looking for for work. And the last thing is the fact is the problem that they had. The last thing you have. The problem is, it's like, Oh, I got a lot of problems, so let's have a baby. So having a baby, You're not even halfway responsible. Haven't you know, getting a job? So why are you having a kid? So here's the problem. Cut them off. It's time. It's time to cut them off. Go look for a job. Go find a job. Plenty of jobs out there. We can't even keep the people that we hire to last for a week and they're gone. It's ridiculous, you know? And thank you for your call, and I hear your passion. I I appreciate it, David. I know. I know. I'm David. I mean, but he has a point. Honestly, what David's saying is what people are screaming from the rooftops right now. I mean, I just this morning. And I'm seeing so many ads for jobs everywhere. Denny's is airing a TV ad for jobs looking for people to work for Denny's. I mean, they're investing in a T V ad. People are desperate for workers. Sure, there was some breaking news that the Federal Reserve Is actually gonna start dialing back its very low interest rate policies this year. If hiring continues to improve. Obviously this, you know, in response, they lower their interest rates in response to the pandemic, all of us Had I heard somebody compare this. This people not going to work holding out for better wages and things like that. Right? This job seekers market as the closest that we've ever come to a national generals strike general strike people saying You know what You're not giving me good working conditions. You're not paying me enough to do this job. I'm not coming back because what's happening? All of a sudden, these were employers seem to be finding the money to pay some of their workers higher wages. You know if this is the way some people need to get the higher wages do you support that idea? Higher wages, and also they're offering bonuses, hiring bonuses, Things like that. It's really fascinating. I mean, just to David's point, though, I just want to, uh Not to put a wet blanket on it. But listen, As you point out, we were in the middle of a pandemic. People were scared to go to work. They couldn't go to work. 40,000 bartenders lost their job in one day when when that shutdown happen. And those they had to do something else. They had to pivot and figure out and that's why you're having a hard time finding people who are still in the pool. Eligible employees. The second thing I want to say is the d d. Now, if you're still getting an I d check, you have to prove that you're looking for a job. Yeah, and so and and it's been proven time and time again. That when the state comes in and helps you with unemployment benefits. You are more likely to look for a job. You are more It gives you the ability to look for a job because it gives you the ability to pay for necessities that allow you to give you the time to look for a job. I mean, if you need a car, you have gas money. Now you're able to take your car things like that. Absolutely. Um, but this idea of holding off for better wages Is this going to lead to higher wages for every single job sector? I mean, you were mentioning, you know, food service workers and bartenders, which I think are often used as an example, because why oftentimes they're paid minimum wage and then they're supposed to make the rest of it on tips, and we know that when you have to depend on random strangers To make up a significant portion of your income. Sometimes you're going to be paid. What you're do what? You what you deserve simply because they don't want to. You know, they don't tip enough things like that. And so I while on one hand, I think all wages should be going up. David mentioned like $3000 on unemployment. $3000 is not a lot of money in this area. I don't know how people are making it work just on unemployment for so long, But obviously people are doing it. This person from the 95 texted higher wages equal higher prices. Have you guys been seeing the inflation reports will that has to do with a lot of different things? But yes, that's what happens when we start paying higher wages to everybody. I love the fact that we are always look at the bottom paid people as the cause of higher prices. And we never seemed to look at the top and and and be like, Why did they have to get paid so much money? And why does that not seem to trickle down? I will not subscribe. To this attitude that if we pay people a living wage, then we're going to pay 20 bucks for a big Mac one. You don't need to buy the Big Mac until look at the salaries of CEOs. Why does their higher wage not get as much criticism as those at the bottom of the pay scale?.

Businesses that we're waiting for this to happen. So which I think what you're going to see is business is now requiring full vaccination for all of their employees. They they've done that a long time ago here at Cumulus At K G O. And so I just think that's that's what you're going to see. Next. You're just going to see more requirements and that will force people to get vaccinated so they can participate in his life. Exactly Well, the and the difference is going to be now that it has full FDA approval. Getting rid of that non medical exemptions. Uh, notwithstanding the religious exemption is complete Bs. Sorry. Sorry. Not sorry. But New York City will be requiring every Department of Education employee that includes teachers, principals, custodian Central office staff. Have at least one dose of the corona vaccine in a little more than a month without the option of instead submitting to weekly testing. So now I'm gonna do this weekly testing. Yeah, no, no, no. You want to keep your job. You want to work in schools with kids, some of them not to vaccinate it yet. You gotta get your shot. You know, it's it's there's not a loss of your freedoms. You don't have to. You do not have to get vaccinated. You also won't have that job. There's no guarantee your life that you have to have every single job that you want. So you know, I think People will always make excuses. Huge. You know why they don't want to get vaccinated. But this is a huge decision. This is a big day. This is the day you know, I keep talking about you know, we were waiting for the day where vaccines were available. This is the day actually, that we're waiting for. Full FDA approval of the Pfizer vaccine. That's it. That's what everyone was saying that it was hesitant. And so you know, I think that we need to Stop with this nonsense that it doesn't work. All of us that have been vaccinated under the emergency use authorization. We've been your clinical trial. We have shown you now? Yes. Have there been some severe side effects among some people? Yes. We're not dying, though. You know we're not dying. Um and and the sooner we do this, hopefully we avoid another breakthrough case. Um, all these 4th 5th 6th waves of covid. It's exhausting. It's absolutely exhausting. And we're seeing still in America 1000 deaths a day. That's the average. Uh but half of America is fully vaccinated, which is which is encouraging, but that that's the problem is half of America is not vaccinated. So you have a mutation of this virus that is going to continue to dog us for Months to come. Exactly. And of course, we're getting the text messages already. Given that the approval quote unquote is based on political pressure and not the science. This approval makes no emphasize. No difference. Well, who says it's not based on the science? You 415 You're saying that because again, people like 415 and others will choose any excuse that they want to in order to not do what's best for the community, and that's fine. You're free to do that. Now again, there will be consequences. You won't be able to go in a concert. You might lose your job because of it, and that's on you completely on. You. You're free to do it. No one is going to hold anybody down and stick that needle in your arm. That's not going to happen. So don't even worry about it, but you should worry about the loss of your job. And maybe being ostracized from some of the fun things in life, but again That's a decision you'll have to make. Have you gotten your digital vaccination proof yet? Yeah, I did it the day that we were talking about it. Remember? I was at the same time you did, and I didn't get mine and I still haven't done mine. I know this makes me better than you shuttle off. You could take a picture of it, though. Can't you picture of your card? Yeah. So just have it on your phone and and all that before the announcement that Fizer granted full FDA approval. We were speaking with ABC News White House correspondent Karen Travers about President Biden's press conference yesterday. Again. The evacuations are ongoing. 18 U. So hopefully that goes more smoothly and other things during this evacuation. Uh, a nice story Coming out of the evacuation is a woman gave birth to a baby girl on one of the evacuation flights. Did you read about this? Heard about that? Yeah. She went into labor as she was heading to Germany. The medical personnel boarded the plane after it landed and delivered the baby in the aircraft's.
