"G. R. Eric, Thanks again for taking in time to join me this afternoon. The first question I'll start off with is have you found the key to Kucherov yet? Is he still out partying with the cup? Uh, there's probably a really good chance of that. I've seen plenty of pictures of Pat Maroons with the cop out and about in town. Uh, and the fact that Nikita Khrushchev just signed on with Bud Light's kind of gives you an idea of what's going on. Um, the good news is is there's not a camera in front of them, so maybe it's a little bit easier for him to handle that, right. It's not like when Alex Ovechkin won the cup and there was a camera following him everywhere as he went on his, you know. Three month, Bender. So, but, hey, you know what I mean? They're back to back Stanley Cup champions and and they deserve to celebrate as so. So, Eric again. Thank you again for for joining me today. This afternoon. Um, I guess I'll start off with your thoughts on how the Stanley Cup final played out. It certainly seemed like you know, on paper, The Lightning should have been the Stanley Cup champions against Canadians team That didn't even finish the regular season. The top half of the NHL, but I mean, the Canadians gave them all they could They Fought all the way until the end. And you know the lightning just again. Just deserve to be the cup champion with the stacked roster they have. Yeah, they're so deep, right? Like And probably the game winning goal in the Cup clinching game kind of just sums up Tampa Bay. It's Ryan McDonagh, David Savard and Ross Colton that hook up for it. You know, I mean, who really had heard of many of those guys, and obviously, McDonough has been around a while, and Savard was the trade deadline acquisition. But Colton was the rookie who wasn't even you know, with the team in the bubble last year. So all the star power breaking point. The kitty croup draw Victor Hedman, Steven Stamkos. All those guys. It's the rookie who you know, sets up the the game winning goal or scores the game winning goal. And the guy who wasn't with the team last year, either. David Savard is the guy who had the primary assist, So it's just it's just there. That's just the The strength of this team was their death. Yeah, they've got the star power. They've got elite talent. It was the overall depth up and down the line up that made them such a difficult team to play against. And at the end of the day, Montreal works their tail off. They have some grinders. They can really work it. They don't have a ton of skill. I think Suzuki and Caufield Is going to give them that element moving forward, but they don't have a ton of it, so they have to really capitalize on their chances. The line you don't have to. They have so much death. They can. They can have just a few chances. Her game and they're going to find a way to win a game. I mean, clearly he's been one of the best goaltenders in the NHL over the past four or five seasons. He's been consistently a finalist for the Vezina Trophy and this playoff performance just mean was arguably one of the best performances from a goaltender We've seen in the Stanley Cup final. Wouldn't you agree? So Absolutely. I mean, when you start talking about doing something that no goalie in the league has ever done, and that's pitching a shutout in all four series clinchers, and it's five straight if you want to go back to the series clincher against Dallas last year. I mean, that's just being a guy who is ready when the chips are down when it's ready to close out. I mean, it's just phenomenal what he was able to do. And you know, he's probably not even to the peak of his career, which has to be a scary thing. You know, he's 27 years old, You know, goal is just start to really hit their peak, You know between 27 29. Um, just he's such a staunch a steady presence. And, you know, I remember looking at him after the game was over on Wednesday nights, and everything he'd been for like he looked exhausted. It had to be he's played. He played every single minute in the bubble last year. He played every single minute in the playoffs this year, and he just goes out with a focus and determination. Um, just you take that work ethic with the talent that he has He had the feeling he hasn't even reached a ceiling yet, and that probably has to be a concern if you're the rest of the NHL. Eric. I'm going to jump to Nikita Kucherov right now and before I get to my question with the salary cap issues, uh, I just want to be. I'm curious. What are your thoughts on his playoffs? I mean, he was the leading scorer of the Sailing Cup playoffs once again, but also the post game press conference he had shirtless while drinking a Bud light. Um, and some people have been highly critical of him during that situation, but I mean, it's something where he's showing his true self. He's just want two Stanley Cup championship and he's having fun with it. Manager is calling out a couple people, but One of your thoughts overall on Kucherov on his play, and also the postgame comments. Well for him to miss an entire regular season and come in and do what he did in the playoffs and like it's not easy like he went from September 28th when they won the cup last year to really You know, you don't see a game until the start of the playoffs in the middle of May. That's a long time to be away from game action. And then you jump in to a playoffs and look that series against the Panthers was fast paced. I mean, it was fast the Panthers really wanted to push the game they wanted to try and make it a run and gun style. And push Tampa Bay that way, And that's not easy for him to do so to put on this type of performance and other 30 point post season. You know when you start to put your name Up there with Gretzky Lemieux about guys who had back to back 30 point playoff performances that's pretty special. And as far as the post game, um you know that's the Nikita Kucherov that we don't normally see, because he is a pretty reserved guy. He's actually usually pretty I don't want to see stand office, but he doesn't like to give a lot when we when we talked to a normally especially now that it's just the zoom meetings that we've had for the passenger. Plus, um, you He showed some personality. He kind of let loose a little bit and you know it's it's. It's tough to think that how much we criticized, especially in hockey, we know in hockey guys like to talking cliches one period of time. You know, we just got a left turn the pay. I mean, we hear that from these guys all the time, and he comes out and just speaks his mind like we can't criticize players for never showing their personality and then criticize them for showing the personality. I thought it was great. I thought it was entertaining. I had no problem with anything. You said he didn't say anything about the Montreal Canadians. He was more concerned about what the Canadians fans right kind of reacted to that game four and I think that's kind of getting lost in the shuffle a little bit. Yeah. And the other question I had pertaining to Kucherov was. We heard Dougie Hamilton be very critical after they lost to Tampa Bay, and they're in their five game series in the second round, saying, Well, that's a team over there. That's you know, 18 $19 million over the salary cap, and that's because They were able to keep Kucherov on long term injured reserve through the regular season. But once the postseason came, he was healthy. And you know there's nothing against, you know, guys that you know what the salary cap going over. There is no sailor cap essentially for the postseason, so Um, I guess what I'll ask you is. Do you feel that? You know it's a bad look for the lightning because of this, But even though it was in the rules, and do you think that, you know, maybe the NHL looks us this in the future and says, Yeah, maybe we should fix this. Well, it's a rule that they're in place. Other teams is certainly utilized it to their advantage. Um, you know, let's look at the New York Islanders, for example, right? They made it work and this offseason again, they're going to have to deal with these same questions. But maybe there's another confluence of events where, yes, they can figure it out and win once again, So I do think that this team that we're seeing now is a manifestation of years. Honestly, a decade of strong drafting, and I'm count management Julian Greece plot their GM, but it's also his predecessors advisor Man. I think that's the name that anyone who doesn't even know hockey probably should know. He is a genius of the GM. Just as he was a genius as a player, and there are really good teams. There are really deep team and I think they're going to be heck of a competitive team next year. You know, they have to get rid of people. I honestly think it's a confluence of good luck and kind of fortunate event. So where did this all go wrong? I mean, the Canadians obviously came into the entire Stanley Cup playoff. Game One was a one goal game in the third. It just got out of hand. And it feels like everything sent in has been at a hand. Is there something Montreal could have done differently in your mind? You know For me. The turning point was Game two because that game they actually outplayed the lightning. Significantly. They had a plus 20 shot differential. If you're getting 20 more shots from the other team, you usually win the game. And that was just one of those games were just none of the lucky bounces. We're going in, and all of them were going in for the Tampa Bay Lightning. If I had to think of one turning point in the series, it was Blake Coleman. Good Texas American boy can save us on July 5th nicking this incredible diving goal with just like, seconds left in that second period. If you hadn't seen it, go look it up. And after that, it almost just felt like Montreal was deflated and and James break the fact that they come home. First time in 28 years. They're playing with Stanley Cup final at the Bell Centre. Unfortunately, the Quebec government didn't allow them to have more than 3500 fans. So it felt like a lot and they just came out flat. And I'm like, you know what? So i just wanted to say that it popped in my head when you were talking about that lightning thing again because i think about other things go into that and i i wanted to get that out there if you are one of these people like me or like al and you haven't done something and you said i don't need to do that anymore. I got no reason to go around. All these people do something like that. I'm used to my life now with this pandemic and i'm stuck in. This is easy. Try one of those things and get back out there. I'm sure Stammer has probably been skating on his own and doing some of that workout stuff with the Lightning training staff staff, but Tuesday was the first time we actually saw him on the ice skating. He fully participated in practice. He's actually on a line with Nikita Kucherov and Mitchell Stephens, who we haven't seen. We only saw him that one game when he came back from his long term injury. That we haven't seen him since. So those three guys skated on what could be the best fifth line in the history of the NHL eyes. The other four lines are obviously out there for the lightning and doing their thing. All right. Then we saw them get into some power play work towards the end of practice where Steven Stamkos was in his traditional spot in the left circle in the key to Cooter off was in the right circle that he had had meant breaking point. And Alex Killorn kind of rounding out that top power play unit that You know, I was talking with Greg Llanelli before the show here. We haven't really seen that entire unit together since I guess Stamkos went down last year with the injury during the regular season, because if you remember in the postseason, they didn't have Stamkos. They had him for that one game against Dallas, but they didn't get a power play while stand Coast was out there. Then he you know, went down with injury again in that.

How many minutes you're going to get in there like that sort of consistency for sure. But I think with the way the lightning have been playing in this team first, obviously coming off a Stanley Cup championship, they know what it takes to win and For them right now, 11 and seven is working there bought in. I think the defenseman are being able to utilize and more advantageous scenarios. Um, you know, being able to go 11 and seven and then you've got a star studded offense, even with Nikita Kucherov out of the lineup, so it's great to get players like Andre Plot breaking point. Top line for the Lightning. The Stamkos point plotline are rolling. So getting those players more minutes. You know Alex Killorn as well. He's been great Biyani Gord line, I think is certainly Even if they're not producing. They're creating energy out there and sustaining some great shifts in the offensive zone to get that next line ready. Kelly. Was a lot more experience under his belt working on his game, and I talked about it with burns in the pre game, but I think one of the biggest skills that he wanted to work on two. He has the speed and the explosiveness, which we've seen. Lot and you know, it's great because I think he draws a lot of penalties. He creates energy and, um, you know, he's just wants to be all over the puck, so that's great, especially like Alex Killorn said. It works out great for him because Joseph runs in there and he does a ton of ground work. They're working hard in the corners and just get to the puck up to him. I think one thing he wants to work on is just making plays with pace and being able to stick handled and make passes and catch passes. You know, using his speed at top speed, so that Czar pretty hard skill to learn. You know some of the greatest In the world, delighting have that are able to do it and Brayden point in Nikita Kucherov just making big plays of pace, So that's one thing I think he's trying to work on this season, but I love his game so far, and when he's able to bring to the lineup Lastly, Caylee. What are you expecting from both teams tonight after having not played a bit You know, you don't want to think that there's going to be any rust. But At the same time, you know, neither team has played. Carolina has had two delays and several of the key players out of the lineup now because they're on the protocol is so I expect the Lightning dick start really strong. You know, I think they made an emphasis after The loss against Columbus that they were pretty unhappy with their performance and that they, you know they need to start. And play a lot better, especially with how critical this start in with these games, just getting moved and delayed.
