And you not being in front of the stadium standing near reporting and giving us your best. It was another one of those deals. Where okay. He started getting biggie. Starting to get a little lazy on me right now. So what's happening in patriot land. Nowadays i see cam. Newton took all the first team reps the other day. What's happening now with that situation so key. They've had twelve practices and training camp but only four in full pads. So i think that's sort of important context to tell you where they are in the progression of what bill belichick is trying to do here. Cameras taken all the first reps in all twelve of those practices followed by mack jones. It is interesting to note key that sometimes they'll put mac in with the starters even though he's taking reps behind cam and i just go big picture. Bill belichick says cams are starting quarterback and so. What does that mean to me. It means that unless cam falls off a cliff performance wise or mack jones become superman. His intention is to go with cameron. Nothing in my view has changed at this point on that course for bill. Belichick move on from cam newton in the quarterback situation. Let's talk about the receivers. Though they bring in kendrick born they bring in nelson aguilar. How do they look in training camp. Does it look different than a year ago. Looks a lot different key. And i think the thing. I would say the receivers you mentioned aga- lauren born they have jacoby myers third-year player. Who's ascending nikial. Harry their first round pick from two thousand nineteen has totally turned it around and looks like he's going to be a contributor but to me. You can't just talk about the receivers when you look at this offense. It's the tight ends to and it's how that group will complement the tight ends. Johnny smith hunter henry big time. Free agent imports. So i think it's not just that group which is definitely better but when you pair them with those two tight ends the offense to miki looks completely different but you know what mike as you mentioned hundred henry and the injury there with him. How significant is that shoulder injury for him. He's gonna miss some time but how much time we looking at so allen. It was one of those full pad practices and he was locked in a one. One blocking drill and you could see he sorta was was working out. Something on his shoulder tried to practice through. It went for an mri. And i can tell you a big sigh of relief from the patriots that it wasn't considered overly serious. He's expected to miss a couple of weeks here in the preseason but the timetable for him put him on course to possibly be ready for that season opener. September twelfth when the miami dolphins come right here to foxborough massachusetts. Mike on the other side of the ball. We know about the belichick defense and everything that they've been able to create in free agency. They went out and got a kwame. Mcmillan from the oakland raiders on one year deal. How significant is the loss of. Ray quan on tours. Acl to that defense. What was the expectations for him. So key they ranked twenty fifth last year. And run defense and really. You wouldn't have seen last. That defense looks a lot better as well. What's the latest stefan gilmore situation status quo key. He's still on that physically unable to perform list coming back from the quad injury. We know he's not happy with the contract situation. I'm not going to be able to stay on the field but you can sign me. And then i've seen i don't know about you sort of it. I've seen many people. Discuss the nicole harry the patriots Two thousand nineteen thank you. Who is who is requesting requesting trade. Many people talk about. Hey man maybe the chiefs should take a look at this. We are we serious about this guy who is been a bust right now in nicole hairy it with the patriots now granted. Some of that quarterback play in year. Two that he faced last last year with cam and brian. Hoyer isn't really the great thing to help you out with. But a guy who's been a bust eighty-six targets in the last two years since he's been in the league. And then josh gordon who who who just cannot stay on the field and hell. I don't even know how good he is anymore. Right now he. I mean he hasn't even played long enough to even know how good it's been a long time. Eight nine years since he led the nfl in receiving yards. I we are not in this desperation mode that it feels like every week. Please tell me why the chiefs need to go. Take a look at these two guys. Please sell me on this garbage certa all that you try to sell us on going out there and getting one of these guys josh. Gordon's your dude. Well yes. I love. I'm interested in taking a look at him because it doesn't cost you anything to bring him into camp in just cut him if he can't keep it together if you think yes. He's just not good at football anymore. He's out of shape. He's had just hasn't had the reps over the last several years to maintain the level of athleticism and play that you need to succeed in the modern day. Nfl but if we're talking about we want another camp body and we want to bring in another wide receiver and see what happens. I'd be very interested in bringing in josh gordon. Especially over nikial harry. I understand the kill. Harry is only twenty four years old but he is just not looked like a competent. Nfl wide receiver. The patriots haven't done a lot to help him out but he hasn't been very good in the. Nfl doesn't create separation in any way not interested. I wasn't really that interested in him as a prospect. I am on the josh. Gordon train because i wanna see as many weapons as possible with patrick mahomes. Maybe we believe fifth round wide receiver. Cornell pal is the answer or mccoll's finally going to take a huge step forward on the outside which is out of position for him. But i'd like to see. I'd like to go to training camp and see josh gordon practicing with the chiefs and see what that looks like. Yeah i'm out on josh gordon of you should be i one jock. Laurie hawkins seed. And i hope he latches on somewhere in his super successful. It has nothing but the best moving forward. I just don't think that's going to be chiefs. The chiefs have a bunch of lottery tickets and at this point in his career makes me sad to say this. But that's what josh gordon is. Mikhael harry stinks. Like he's just a bad football player. So there's no reason for the chiefs to be interested in him if the chiefs are gonna go free agency route again. I don't think this guy significantly improves you. From what you already have. But the only guy. That's available that i would be interested in is dede westbrook again. I don't think that's any sort of significant upgrade. He's basically until we antonio. Calloway and you have antonio calloway already on your roster so i think what they have right now is probably barring some sort of trade or a surprise cut after camp what they're going to have going into the season and that is a little bit concerning because what you're looking at right now as tyreek hill which is great but then mccoll hardman damarcus robinson cornell powell byron pringle and then probably one of marcus camp garrick deeter antonio calloway or daria shepherd. One of those guys probably going to be the final roster spot where the wide receivers that just doesn't inspire a ton of confidence from me. The only guy that i feel good about his tyreek hill and then everybody else is a massive question mark in when i read earlier. This week from nate taylor of the athletes and i quote from the voluntary wait workouts in the teams mandatory minicamp mccoll hardman appears to be in position to have a breakout season as he is expected to have the role previously held by sammy watkins. That's terrifying for me. I i don't think he's a guy that profiles to play in that role sammy. Watkins was a prototypical x. Wide receiver where he can line up. On the line of scrimmage and beat man press coverage that is the opposite of what mccall hardman profiles as in fact the only guy on the team. Maybe you got two of them. That can do that. I think is cornell powell and byron pringle and i don't think those guys are starting level wide receivers at least not right now so i. I don't think they have that guy on the roster today. Listen i. I think as upset before that is something that is being overblown using the words terrified a mike that that feels a pitch strong. That feels a bit strong to use. Sorta josh gordon. And i i hope he hooks up with chip and joanna gaines down in waco. And maybe they can you know do some kind of work with him. Maybe he can help build some houses and work at magnolia farms. I don't i don't particularly well. I think they can help people. I think he got a better chance to his life getting on track them. Come in and play in the national football league. We saw them fill that role with kendrick born. And now nikial. Harry of the new england patriots. Former first round pick has demanded a trade. He wants out of new england. I don't know that new england particularly cares that he's demanding a trade. But this is someone that's kyle and akash set on their show yesterday that the niners were heavily interested in When he came out in twenty nineteen he probably could be very very cheap. Do you wanna see the niners take a flyer on the keel hairy. Yeah at the right price. Obviously all come down to price. But i would try to fourth round pick. Wow for nicole. Harry our trade a fourth. What is the fourth. it's not that valuable. But the potential with nicky. Larry is big kyle. Shanahan loved him and on top of that. The niners have connection. The no other team has brennan was his team mate in two thousand eighteen at arizona state if brennan Signs on says yes. Go get him. Like i think he was a great teammate. He doesn't have problems. he has great workout. You know he has insight into how harry is behind the scenes. You know. I practice things like that. And if he signs off on it then why not you. Have you have somebody that shanahan loved. You have somebody that could come pretty cheap. Because it's just a mid round pick and you have somebody who has a teammate. On the team they can help them along and can tell you what type of practice player is and how dedicated he truly is and kind of squash your concerns of. Maybe it's a guy that just isn't dedicated. The interesting thing for me again. At all i agree. It comes down to price as long as you don't have to give up too much to get him. This is how i look at. The niners need a number three wide receiver. They got a lot of guys in the bucket right. Richey james is there as a possibility. I know many people. Listening to this show are hoping that jalen hurd emerges as that guy john jennings maybe if he can stay healthy and come back now. You throw nikiel harrying that mix levin. I like the odds that are of that mix. Somebody will emerge. I don't know who it's going to be. But i gotta just feel like playing the odds that unless the forty niners are completely horrible at evaluating the wide receiver position. One of those people would be good enough to be the number three wide receiver. You know it'd be kind of funny if the niners do get harry. It means that literally they swapped receivers because kendrick born or assigned by the patriots. So it's literally there okay. you can have borne. We'll take you know. Essentially what the situation is now. It'd be kinda humorous. And i think the other thing that may be running through kyle's head is harry is not like a burner. He's not a separator. What he reminds me of basically is like deebo samuel very similar type of player. Who's not known for his speed but really really good with the ball on his hands. Good and space. Good on the run. Maybe in the back of kyle's mind he's like you know we can't rely on deebo to play all sixteen games. But if we had mikhael harry who could fill that role if if deebo gets hurt were okay. You know kyle. I feel like a big thing for him is like just keep the train moving. We can't get derailed by injuries. And i feel like their plan. Now is almost we know. These guys are gonna get hurt. We just have to build redundancies to me. If they get somebody. Like harry. And he's better at the out. Routes the post routes things like that i would slide devaux inside to the slot because what does deebo accelerate. He excels at those short yardage. Quick slants across the middle type of routes that the slot normally runs. I i could see it. Being harry norman plays on the outside and deebo is a heavily featured slot. I mean you've got plenty of teams where their slot receiver is the receiver on the team and goes for one hundred plus catches now. The debate is going to get one hundred plus catches but you know just because he's the slot not technically the starter doesn't mean deebo couldn't put up big numbers and be a massive focal point for the offense. That's an interesting point that i hadn't thought of i look. I just wanted to work man. I don't care where you're putting them. Just get in there and were. Let's see these guys on the field and see what they actually have. I still don't know how many games kiddle deebo and i. You have all had together especially with the starting quarterback. I think it's like less than five. Pretty sure only like one or two when you factor in the quarterback because i think it's around five with those three receivers when you factor in the fact that jimmy garoppolo was injured all last year. I think it's like one or two. That's unbelievable to me so yeah. Let's hope that that works itself. I we'll see what happens with an akil harry thing. I just want to point out too by the way that when the patriots drafted harry de que. Metcalf was on. The board depot was on the board carry. Maclaurin was on the board hideous job by the new england. Patriots absolutely hideous. They've never been good at drafting wide. Receivers and i know that bill. Belichick is a great coach. And he is. I don't think he's a very good. Gm and i think there's a tendency to just assume that whoever the patriots pick up is going to be good because they win a lot and that has not been the case somebody on twitter. 'cause i posted saying you know i would go after hearing and somebody replied like he hasn't done anything worthwhile and i made the point of other than randy moss and god mode for those couple years. What outside receiver has ever put a big stats for the patriots that oftens features the slot. They are the offense. I would argue in the nfl. That is the slot receiver feature because you went from west wilder to edelman and before that you even had guys like troy. Brown slid into the slot quite a bit when he put up some numbers. So that offense is not one where the outside receiver can excel unless they're random us and nobody is physically. I am not shedding any tears for the new england patriots..
