"I don't think we're getting the same feedback. So the assumptions hurt for sure. But i think just you know the tape person i am. I think it's made me. I hate to be like him so much stronger. But i really think that like. It's a challenge for me. Now when someone assumes that like i love it because it's couldn't be any more different but definitely hard. I mean in the beginning. I think if. I didn't have the support of the team that we had i i mean who knows. I'm not sure that i would have stuck through. It's it's definitely disheartening. I think part of it too is that i noticed. When we'd we've moved a some of the proxy our doing with with the new today named kiu and lizzy cookson about on the show and she was and still is incredibly strong personality. Somebody a following. I think how do you look at that experience. You know when when you again for folks that are out. There does cuba's an instant response for co founded by females in had pretty much all of management were female and it was a very diverse and very strong group that i attribute the strength to the diversity. How did that. Influence your ability to grow Both technically managerial professionally. So that was a completely different experience. Obviously than anything. I've had before. I'm definitely a male dominated industry just tech overall and then cyber-security even worse so so moving to key. who was. it's weird. Because like i don't really think i thought about it too much until it became the norm like. I don't think. I thought about everybody on my first second team or men until i moved to kibo and you know all of my peers and colleagues in the same positions as me work girls because they think that was the first time that i was like whoa our. Ceo's a female. The head of every office is female. Like you know which i feel like. I shouldn't react that if that should be how it is if they're capable they're smart enough it doesn't matter you know what they are where they come from But i think it definitely strengthen me didn't it didn't have i didn't feel like i myself as much When we would have meetings you know the leads of all of the offices may get together. I'd be in a room with six females never in my career that happened so far so I think it definitely allowed me to kind of let my guard down a little bit and really focused on the technical career. That's really where. I got into kind of the specifics of dealing with ransomware open negotiations And they taught me so much. I mean one's eighteen now. We'll talk about your team now again. the the founder founders of current company. There's very there's a strong diversity within inside the coalition but tells a little bit of both company in the role that you have now share so definitely moved out of the consulting world. We this algorithm in the context of climate models this algorithm that would learn the level of sort of changeability or non stationary over both time and space while doing the learning task so while trying to combine the climate model ensembles predictions at now. A whole time space grid and so this was just an algorithm mcpaper. The renault theorems. But if you looked at the field of online learning it was pretty open to also have a spatial dimension or really any dimension so then it turned out Some finance people that i was talking about. We're interested in it for where the other dimension is markets in other countries and so we did some crew proof of concepts in that domain. But this really came full circle. I was on sabbatical in europe. And i visited nicolo chase bianchi who has written one of the main Important textbooks online learning and with his phd student. We talked about the theory. How would we evaluate algorithms. And how would we even think about regret when you have online learners in a spatial grid with some interaction and some observation of the losses that the others are experiencing what are sort of positive and negative results that you can get there and we ended up publishing it last year in algorithm learning theory. So i do like trajectories that hit both the theory and the practice and i'm in academia so of course that's good for the students careers as well right. They were trying to forge this new domain. And we're succeeding. There are people that have cross-disciplinary career. Someone who did a master's with me and see us and is now in a climate science lab. Doing but in the meantime while students are here they do need to publish in machine learning venues so i like to work at the sweet spot between the two nice. Yeah i think we want to get into your recent keynote a cv pr but continuing a threat of your broad research interests. I'm wondering if you can speak about the opportunity and apply machine learning to climate informatics climate. Change environmental science in general. How do you think about the field. How do you taxonomy is it. What's the research frontier Yeah well i. If some of your listeners are considering an application area i would strongly recommend the study of climate change. I mean there are a few unique things about it. So if we compare it say to biological applications. There's much more copious data here. "Is on board. Money. Cook is here as well. Lee rises here. So is Nicolo saying the newsroom and president Trump is here with. Oh, boy. He's so upset with Congress. Did you guys watch this when I got dropped yesterday? No, I don't need to see it. It's e mean it's literally former minutes straight of the him just saying Congress. You dropped the ball, You screwed up, and here's Here's a little snippet of it, where he's talking about the biggest problem with the bill to him. Is the lack of stimulus payments going to America at least not enough money. The bill also allows stimulus checks for the family members of illegal aliens, allowing them to get up to $1800 each This is far more than the Americans a given Despite all of this wasteful spending and much more. The $900 billion package provides hardworking taxpayers with only $600 each in relief, Pampers And not enough money is given to small businesses. And in particular restaurants. Whose owners have suffered so grievously, and that's an interesting point that we didn't talk about earlier when we mentioned this is the restaurants because I mean we talked yesterday about airlines were being bailed out in this package, but Assed. We found out yesterday and this morning. All this foreign spending is wrapped in all this. Fixing the researching fish in the Gulf of Mexico is wrapped in funding construction projects for the FBI money for the Smithsonian all of these things and not a lot of money for Americans. That's sad, so especially since Americans are paying for it, right? Yeah, that's that's the biggest thing here is that he's talking about this in Congress. This this was a mistake, and he's mad at Congress for for passing this, But he also pointed out the fact what we pointed out yesterday and that this thing was 5000 pages. This was this was a disaster from the beginning because nobody could look through it and actually vote. You know, on principle. And they just voted because they wanted to get something done. Oh, well, That's what we talked about yesterday about how boys sure would be nice if there was something you know if there was something in writing this said, Hey, Congress before you Has a bill you need to read it right need to understand what's in it right? And by the way, President Trump wants the $600 payments that were set to go out next week. Had this bill been approved? He wants it to be 2000 person instead of 600. That's more than three times the amount and Democrats are jumping on board with this. Nancy Pelosi. AOC right, Bernie Sanders. Chuck Schumer on me all the names that you've you've grown to love loved him. You love all right? They're all saying, Hey, we're glad the president is saying this alleged do it. Of course you know the election. Is all but over. So of course, they can agree with him with no punishment now, but it the problem. I think that this is going to run into is what is Mitch McConnell. And what are the Republicans? The Rand Pauls, the Ted Cruz Where they going to stand on this, and we haven't heard much from them yet, right? Because heard from Rand. Paul. Well, yeah, Yesterday he did. He was He's not on board with spending obviously. Um, But if President Trump doesn't sign this, which all indications are he's not going to is Congress gonna stay at? You know they should be going home for now. Right now for Christmas break. Are they going to stay and try to work something out? Because on Saturday the unemployment benefits go away. Next week. There's a shutdown if this because, remember, this isn't just a covert relief bill. This is a spending bill. That's why you had all that foreign stuff wrapped into it. So we have a shutdown next week. If that's something isn't agreed upon. So there's a lot of steak. And the president. Just pull the pin out of the grenade and tossed it back in and said, do better. And I love this. By the way. This is how he ended his his rejection of this bilious send me a suitable bill. Or else the next administration will have to deliver a covert relief package. And maybe that administration will be me. And we will get it done. I love it. I love it. I love that he worked at in Vienna still could be may so good on the president's standing firm. You know, because he didn't buckle like a lot of Congress, right? You know, had under the deadline. So I'm glad the president is standing firm on this. It's 6 20 Something about a funny thing about President Trump is that he is never ever seemed like he is worried about not getting reelected. Oh, no. He? It's a fascinating dynamic because he cares what people think. But he also doesn't care what people think. Right? Right. You know, like he needs people. Toc wants to the support. But if you come out, say he's garbage. You didn't care. You don't care. You just brushes it off and says I'm gonna do me. What I do work, so I'm just gonna continue to do it. And we notice 40 Niners game is gonna be a big one for both teams, so Looking forward to turning the page and getting onto it. Coach Mike McCarthy. He knows what they need to do. That's went out, beat the 40 Niners on Sunday and 18 18 T Stadium Philadelphia after that, And then go to New York and beat the Giants. And even if they do that, it might not be good enough. As if this morning they trailed the Washington football team by two games. Washington beat San Francisco yesterday for their fourth win in a row. And the first ever Bowl game four days before Christmas. While Stanford becomes the fourth team to opt out of playing in a bowl game, they joined Boston College Pit and Virginia. What was Stanford's record? I knew you were going to bring that up. I think it's like three in two or something like that. I mean, it was a little bit of a question as to whether or not they were headed bowling anyway, Right? That's what a lot of these teams, I guess. You know, they just don't want you to waste your time considering us in the mix if we're on the bubble and You know, my whole thing was and I was telling someone this If that will happen to TCU, like a piece of you said, we're not gonna play in a bubble. They have a mutiny. I think it's a culture thing. These guys want to play in bowl games. I'm shocked. That the schools are not playing in them. They apparently their games with everything going on in. We go back to California, right? But they played Washington and Oregon. So to get those games in They went there and stayed there. Yeah, And I think that's it that they've just been gone so long, and they'd have to stay gone. Yeah. Around the holidays. They couldn't go back. You can't go back to Palo Alto. I've got to tell you, Brian. I'm driving around the T C u campus over the weekend, right, Argo by it, and I'm like And I feel for these football players. They're they're basically by themselves because school basketball players another division one athletes, but The other kids are at home. Yeah, I know You're right. But I think they wanna be there, man. It's an issue for them. I think they wanna be there. Yeah, they didn't leave out the biggest sports story of the weekend. I was going to pick your brain and we've got asked him. You playing here locally in Frisco. We just announced your alma mater is gonna play North Texas, right? Any Can you give us any inside on the horn frogs? I think they'll either be in Texas of the Texas Bowl on the 31st. They'll be in Phoenix on the 26. I'm picking. We're gonna be one of those to Phoenix. Yeah. Yeah. Are you Are you ready for the biggest? What's the wig? I did the Indians. You did. All right. Here it is. The Texas school for the Death won their first state championship fight, right? They beat Veritas Academy of Austin. 63 to 32 in the taps six man state title game and a great That is a mate. That is so for them. Yes. They had to move to six men. They don't normally play six million, You know, but they had to because they had a bunch of football players who live outside of Austin, who were, you know would generally go to school there, but they had to move the online because of the cove. It So their numbers were cut way down on the roster, so they had to move to six man this year. They go to six men and they win the state championship. This is all about their this 50,000 Watt radio station is given more exposure to six man football over the last couple of weeks. But this is me. The Texas School for the Death. Wins the state Championships. A great It's inspirational story. Yes, it really is. I love this and and there were six and three going into the game. Veritas was undefeated. So it was upset too. No kidding. Yes, Itwas That's just Well, if you're the opposing team that has to Just be a little awkward. I'm sure it can be intimidating. "By this individual Machiavelli. This is the Machiavelli Nicolo Machiavelli. This is the guy that wrote the prince he's. Got all kinds of great quotes out there. It's better to be feared than loved. If you can if you cannot be both. He's got never never was anything. Great achieved without danger. Here's one if an injury is been done if an injury has to be done to a man it should be so severe that is vengeance. Need not be feared that's pretty ruthless. Here's another one. Hence, it comes about that all armed prophets have been victorious and all unarmed prophets have been destroyed. In one more quick, quote, as you you can you can just Google Machiavellian quotes and you'll find a bunch of great ones men rise from one ambition to another. I they seek to secure themselves against attack, then they attack others, and that's actually from the prince which is his most famous book. And if you think about the process of being a human being that right? There is very accurate, and you can really see that with accuracy. If you overlay that on jitsu, I you seek to secure yourself from attack and then you attack others, right? And when you're rolling at first when you first start you're just trying to defend your string not to get choked. And then eventually you can stop from getting choked. And you can stop from doing are mocked, and then you start to attack people armlock them. So that's Machiavelli, and if you don't know anything about him, he was an Italian really apoliticial in a diplomat. And but on top of that. That. This was during the renaissance period, and he's an actual renaissance man. So he was a poet. He was a philosopher, he's a playwright. He was an author of books. Born in fourteen sixty nine died and fifteen twenty seven from fifteen three to fifteen o six. He was in charge of the Florentine militia. And when he was in charge of that militia, he didn't like mercenaries. Because he realized that weakness of mercenaries is that they they're they're getting paid. That's why they're fighting not fighting from their true belief system. So he raised and recruited a citizen army, and they were well respected on the battlefield. And they fought and some pretty good battles and one, but it didn't last forever fourteen was eventually defeated and dissolved and Machiavelli was accused of conspiracy and tortured. And I of course, whenever I I go down a lot of rabbit holes. But I went down that torture rabbit hole for a little while yesterday. And they pretty brutal about it. But he. They thought of use a conspirator whatever he did he even after torture. They couldn't get it out of him. Dave, actually, just exiled them. And that's when he wrote his book the prince, which I'm sure we'll cover on here at some point. This is where you hear this is where the word Machiavellian, that's kind of it usually refers to his book, the prince and usually that word nowadays is used to describe someone that's kinda scheming unscrupulous..

Machiavelli Google Dave
