"That hasn't done anything they've had one good season white last fifteen years Watts boards is going to have such a great season. I didn't like them taking t. Late in the first round of those alley suspect when robertson had such a good season say is considering not they have so many holes that need affects defense last year the most points in the afc twenty seven versus the past thirtieth versus abroad End lights out. You mentioned they have to play the nfc west. I mean i just don't see it here. Don't see the offense and if you look at their wide receivers. I mean not chart already as broken finger. Leader would save are broken finger and each getting that mended but still the receivers are averaged. Best at best cincinnati about the steal. Your steelers receiver. Tagore's does barely. I like the jaguar receivers. I think that's a good area is a very very Who are the best receivers. Harry is very very strict when it comes to wide receivers arklow lead them in the team of saving lives with seven hundred yards. Seven hundred yards young. Everybody show. i had the year before. I don't wanna make your favorite receivers. I like the giants receivers. That's why you think they're top chenault. Good galt is going to be belt. If if like i said if. Cd lamp doesn't live in the lineup. And the slot. He's gonna use these. It'd be lined up the outside for doubts. Thank you you go now at your dallas cowboy fan them joan through all right so now i said I said i think urban meyer relatively speaking inherited a great situation here with this. Afc south dumpster fire. I think just the opposite of this. David collie or guy ravens. What was he like the passing coach. And everything the hiram if no picks to make a what did they trade. The one in the two for l'armee tunsil years ago so they have to start sixty seven pick overall they get davis mills quarterback for stanford who looks like elsie he'll see time gra nico collins the wide receiver for michigan. I liked him. But let's face it. This is a disaster. They lost five in a row to close the season You know how do you replace the shawn watson. and he's not traveling with the team to this preseason game although he's signing autographs yesterday i don't get what's going on but forty eight hundred yards thirty three touchdowns he's a sixty eight percent passer and he did all this being sacked one hundred and fifty five times in three seasons like. I don't know. I don't know what they're gonna do with that. How do they do this. This is talyor who got a waiver from the team doctor and is now going to start this mess or davis mills that the fourth toughest schedule. Yeah they they add hightower mark. Ingram phil lindsay. Marcus cannon linemen will fuller gone defensively. Lovey smith comes in at nine takeaways. Last year i think the only team with fewer than ten jj waas gone zach. Cunningham's only bright light there. One hundred sixty three tackles added. Jack lawson what to do i. I don't know what the is four. I have them exactly with four. What kind of odd you get on that. That's also five to one odds touch them to make the playoffs. The noah's minus twelve hundred. If you can put that parlay go for the yes is plus seven. Ten paulie kid jumping on the under here is exactly. Yeah plus one twenty here sal. I do like that that value with the under. There's just so many questions that need to be answered regarding watson It was right around this time for years ago when the nfl Came down on zeke. A for his punishment. Like even without this the you know these things going These allegations from watson going forward in terms of the court system. Whatever doesn't the nfl have to make ruling on this eventually. Like to what. They're gonna do with watson like what what's going to happen here. I just think this team is in disarray. Regardless of what happens they there. Is this no juice with this team right. Is there anything besides to get excited about. They bought they bought and a gaggle of running backs here. It's kind of interesting david johnson. i do like philip. Lindsey a little bit from the broncos. He's there now. Mark ingram is there. Now i don't know none of them really excite me though. They're receiving core is ridiculously weak. If cooks is your number. One i don't. I don't see anybody getting too excited about that. I don't know it's it's it's gonna be a long year for this texans team. There's just too much drama surrounding it. I gotta take the under. I can't see going with the over here at all is the only thing i'll say about the texans. Tell me why maybe this is not the same situation but this time last year the washington football team was in similar turmoil. Right our you didn't have to. You didn't have to replace a franchise quarterback into shawn watson. That's that's a little different but you know whatever. Add the the team owner. There were allegations the whole thing with the how the cheerleaders were treated by the front of the some of the employees. That was terrible. They didn't have a name. Yeah the quarterback. They drafted wasn't very good and they played their shit division. And want it right. So i know i know. They're not rivera lots to do with that a good coach absolutely. But i'll say that. Maybe i'm not expecting them the turn around. You can't get too excited for more than four wins brother brian. You have the under. Also i give him wins at jacksonville. The first week versus jacksonville first week versus carolina and then to that you guys are gonna laugh against seattle and the chargers. Those are bolt home games. Licensees and those are the south everett dog in week. One at home against the jags as of right now there are three. Four hundred yeah. I don't think they're favored any any point. They won't be favored at all right now. I mean unless unless watson is playing or unless somebody else. Another quarterback gets hurt but home against carolina. They'll be an underdog few points right. I think yeah with somebody. Home against the jets. That's close. i guess they'll be an underdog that's late. That's about thanksgiving weekend. We don't know by then. But i still have them. I guess i guess four winds for a team. That's not favored. Any games is a lot. But i'm calling it at five to one bright hausa you. Yes so. I mean yeah. I liked the under here. I mean that you know last year. Even with a phenomenal season by watson right. They were still four and twelve they likely have the worst rosser Worth their worst roster in the nfl. I mean bill. O'brien the lake when we talk about Bill o'brien should probably be in jail based on how this roster looks i mean it is it is so like i mean everybody knew to. At the time that every move he made was really no picks. The couldn't just look at it. I mean that's why at this point really. Just i mean if you even if you're watson guy like just trade get something just start for. I mean you're gonna stink. You're probably gonna stink anyway. Whatever you know whatever you can get from because you don't know after this year but you know how much he'll play And it's probably worth it for them to start over but like you said before like shack lawson probably their main acquisition. They'll do for them. You'd have to figure with walk on this team..

"Traffic can run over linebackers. He's a very very good tidy and checks system hunter. Henry is a downfield receiver. He'll run the skinny post better than any tie in the nfl. This was something. I was doing as soon as these players. Were signed free agency and this is a genius. Lou could've used one more time in here. This is genius moves. It's an excellent play new england's desire to have to tidying on the field all the time coach. Bela check predates even the hernandez gronkowski years. And it is It's the past. Be prologue to the twenty twenty. One season love this strategy. I love those players Where what position did he drafted out of john. Kerry wasn't a seven spot tonight. I i it even makes it more difficult to accomplish this. When you're towards the middle. I think the only time i've been really able to do it was when i was on the end because the players are so closely packed to each other a good job john carey. I like what you did here We like as far. And when i say we i mean all my dynasty teams that own nico collins Athletics aaron. reese is reporting about him saying that he's seen quote plenty of first team reps in training camp this year now nico collins refresher for those who may not play dynasty. He was a third round. Pick in the nfl draft this year and Has the opportunity to start opposite. Brandin cooks in this. Houston texans offense. He's six four so obviously is much more of a red zone threat in Than than brandon cook says he had an eighty nine th percentile speed score. Seventy seven th percentile bursts score in ninety four percents. I'll catch radius. Now he is not going to be a guy that the texans scheme into games he is not going to be the type of guy where he is to threaten double digit targets every single game however feral he is going to be a threat if a worthwhile fantasy investment if he is indeed the starting or one of the starting wide receivers for the texas. This year tonight's jared hines drass nico collins tonight. Happy sixteen o eight as his number eight. I believe receiver. Yeah number eight receiver. What are your thoughts on nico college this year. As not a dynasty play but as a potential lottery ticket redraft play. It's an absolutely brilliant play and it also allows me with about six minutes left in the show to point out dog who listeners chase. Klay pool was a round pick last year. I was worried. I would go but i did get it and you know. Maybe this guy is this year's klay pool. He goes to situation where there's not a lot of receiver help much. Unlike pittsburgh his role will be widened. So he's in a situation. Where last year. Klay bullheaded defined role Any rookie receiver any receiver on this team as a A big big question market quarterback new situation for a team. That's not very good. And sometimes you know Teams that are not very good one and fifteen and fourteen We'll get an extra game this year so whatever it comes out to be but those teams can produce all sensitive standouts in fantasy football and collins lines up to sort of be that kinda guy. was big target and the catch radius is very important..

"They don't have sheldon rankings anymore. So we'll see what their run defense looks like. It's year after it's one of the best. We'll see what it looks like. For the first six games. I was reading bill barnwell story over the weekend on. Espn dot com. And he noted that the packers scored a touchdown on eighty percent of their red zone trips last year that the highest since two thousand one according to espn. And i think that's just when they started you know tracking it that's not even it could be the highest in longer than that but basically twenty years you know. The packers had the most successful season inside the red zone. Last year was just a very successful red zone season to begin with from two thousand one to two thousand nineteen only twelve teams. Had a red zone touchdown rate higher than seventy percent from twenty twenty from two thousand one to two thousand nineteen last year sixteen. did it. Green bay tennessee. Cleveland seattle new orleans and minnesota. And what. I thought. Dave you might find this interesting. What bill barn noted that that four of the six teams that scored on score touchdowns seventy percent or more of the time in the red zone for the six teams operated out of the same kubiak slash. Shanahan style attack. I'm just reading here from his. Not just basically west coast offense. It's it's it's a wide zone offense so little different. Sure it's funny how shanahan's offense isn't in this list. Yeah right and the seahawks are now getting the seahawks were one of those sixteen but now they are also going to have that same style of offense at least based on their coordinator rams assistant sheriff waldron taking over as offensive coordinator. So we'll have that too right. Yes they all right. So i don't know thought it was interesting. Good read checkout hughes. Not a lot of really interesting notes this week. I guess that's about to change but houston with training camps opening houston rookie wide receiver. Nico collins should have a chance for a lot of early snaps. According to the athletics erin. Reese is he on anyone's radar anyway. Drafting nico collins. He was on my radar with one of my last few picks the fish bowl and obviously he's a probably in that late. Second third round range in rookie only drafts big dude not necessarily a burner but a guy who can win some fifty fifty balls in houston. Yeah he's somebody the draft profile on. He's actually an interesting prospect because he cut a lot of weight before the senior bowl as contract to reinvent himself because he missed he opted out of the twenty twenty season into a different at the senior bolden. He looked at michigan Quick faster so he might be someone that can be a lot different now that he has taken ten pounds off his frame. So someone keeping an eye on. But i think you can dig time. And i'm not expecting too much from a passing game lead by tyrod taylor anyway. Your last pick scott fishbowl. Bill remember yes chadha henny. My first pick was patrick mahomes. Okay makes sense. Dwayne ask ridge. I believe oh mine was too atwell a similar type idea there. Yeah knocker brown. He might start. Yeah that's good that way before my last pick shrager for the win. Second levy on bellwood last I'd rather have any design bell when you're gonna. You're that's true. You're going to drop very kicker at some point. You guys take kickers fishbowl. I didn't you did. I took one one cater but at the bigger really early. I've figured it'll be kickers on the waiver. Wire if i need one to give me my solid ten points route. Fifteen lot around fifteen years ago kicker i kick off the board project Coup giannakou.

"But any any initial thoughts after hearing some of these guys cal. I think he is actually one of the thirteen personally He's really solid. I don't see any weaknesses in a team as far as like death. You know what thing i like about blake is. He's done a really nice mixture of for for being on a referendum. He's had taken a nice value of taking player. That's all into especially early in the draft and he's also done a really good job in reaching clear that he wants to get You know and he's definitely find me a couple of weeks. He's i'm about three picks behind him coming back every time around he might be multiple so good job lake. We end up. Yeah i mean it's just really it's really interesting with the format that we have being too tight end and having three wide receivers in free flexes. I think that he got a really really nice receiving corps and his quarterback for not lacking. He actually wanted a better stronger. Callback earns tannehill running back to be the only thing that i could see long-term Might be they might fall off a cliff. Fast with the gaskins the nixon but You know you can't really have everything you automate this type of format discussed pick your battles and if you're gonna point something running back is probably the thing you don't want to overly invest in early address. I think you hit you. Hit it right on the head there. With a lot of your evaluations. I really liked to nico collins pick. I thought that was especially strong. Point for blake. He got him in the fifteenth round and nico collins. Is the receiver own right now in. Houston i know. I drafted brandin cooks. And i think he drafted him a little bit earlier. So maybe he's the one the draft but long-term lecoq allen is the best option most likely because he's twenty two years old kooks twenty eight years old cooks right now is the thousand yard receiver but the offense is really collins for taken as for is long-term..

"Johnson was still good. Jacksonville's thirty second and james robinson was still good so you can be a bad team but you gotta catch the football. And least he has that skill set. Now i will It's it would be disingenuous of me not to bring up the tyrod taylor not throwing the ball much to the running back with a running back capable of catching the ball I think on the extremes. And i've had some of this conversation debate on twitter. Recently over is throwing to the running back. A quarterback stat is at a Talent stat is a coaching stat. And i think on the extremes it is. It is a quarterback stat Not in the average. And tyrod taylor's on the extreme of that he's not gonna throw the ball a lot david johnson. So it's a matter of. Do we really believe tyrod. Taylor is going to be starting much of the season. Yeah and i. Don't you know the talent is thin. There the have to david jones. Even if he's lined up in the slot you know. I know you're right. I think on the extremes but on the average case. It's not a quarterback to me. I think we saw this plain and simple with the cam newton. Cmc situation for you get the player who can catch the ball. You throw him the ball and how you design your offense but not a lot. Let me let me put it this way. Do you have a lot of hope for philip lindsay. No do you have hope for jordan naked. No do you have hope. For any of the other running backs in that room ingram birkhead nico collins. Kiki qt Dynasty cobb says hey what's up dynasty wise. Niko collins is the only name that i would just throw out there saying. He's coming into an nfl experience. Where the opportunity and pathways open for him. So if he comes in and seizes the day he could be better than what we're expecting because obviously nico collins not a highly drafted fantasy option even in dynasty leagues. But at least the path is there for him. Jacksonville was one in fifteen. Last year. They won their first game of the season. If you remember. They beat the colts. Which once again. I spent the offseason. Disparaging gardner menchu and then was getting flexed on in week. One oh yeah. It was great and While they they lost the next fifteen games they went through gardner and luton and glennon. Which is that's more of a glennon law firm than it is of quarterback room glennon and luton is a glutton for punishment Oh like you are yeah. I thought it was gluten. Free like they're going to be gluten free this. It's too easy okay. Also they had. They were punished a lot less here. Okay i'm a okay myself saturday minus saturday. I won't even rank you thank you. It was a. I brought up the fact that james robinson was great last year which was and did it on the offense that was thirty second in rushing attempts. That is not the normal though like using him as the template for well. Bad teams produce. Good running backs is not the normal. Least if you're the dead last and rush attempts since twenty eleven there have been two that have put up big years. And that was lamar miller. Back in twenty. Fifteen for miami and james robinson last year. Who finished seventh at the position. I think we spent a lot of the offseason. Bemoaning urban meyer taking the first round. Pick on e. t. and because of what it means for james robinson managers because you had the free square at running back in the you decided to double down But eight to me it. I think you have to translate that into what this team wants to do. And what this team wants to do is throw the football to the running back position. They didn't feel like they were equipped enough with james robinson in last year for trevor lawrence in college. Highest percentage of attempts from screens. Run pass options. Among all quarterbacks urban meyer needed to double down on the ability to do it yeah and a brought in his college teammate. That he's comfortable doing it. With james robinson season last year was awesome and they should have stuck with them. They didn't and james robinson is bordered line relevant to me i. I don't know how far he has to drop in a draft for me to take him. But it's far. I've i've passed him in so many mocks. So many real drafts. He is everything. I don't want in a player last year. He was great. I take nothing away from him. I give him all the credit but it was entirely because he was the only thing the only player touching the ball a bunch. It's like you said they were dead last in rushing attempts but he was great because he got all of them. It's similar to what we were talking. About what the steelers on the last episode lot of times people think that these running backs with a ton of rushing attempts are on a high rushing volume team. no sometimes is just. They're the only guy and that's all it was well. He's not the only guy he's not with the team and the coach and the staff that experienced him and they just brought in a first-round running back they wanna throw the ball to the running back. And while james rum's akin to that between the twenties urban meyer wants speed. So let me let me ask you a couple of questions. Pull up your for jacksonville. Because i'm gonna ask you a question about them. Because i do look at james robinson. A little bit like philip lindsey in year to where he forced himself to the top the depth chart and the team has no choice but to use them. I think he's going to be a part of the offense. Sure so the question. I ever used. You think he'll have do you think. Do you have two running backs on that team. With more than one hundred fifty touches. I do not james robinson then james robinson with one hundred and sixty five touches and travesty team with one hundred thirty three. I'm sorry not touches rajasthan. Both of them are over one hundred and fifty touches all right so looking at every team over the last five years that had two running backs with one hundred and fifty touches each okay so what. I'm projecting for this team. You have fifty five percent. Fifty five percent had both running backs to finish in the top. Thirty six only only twenty but only twenty one percent had both in the top twenty four. So you're not going to get ceiling. If they share the time if they have the type of touch count that you have projected you might get a couple of top. Thirty six's okay. So much downs for robinson catches free. T. n. but you're not getting in the top twenty four and that's that's what we need to clarify for people here because when you say. Hey it's likely that they're both in the top thirty six really fifty fifty back in sound even if it's even if it was one hundred and guaranteed that can sound better than it is because it's similar saying oh. This tight end was the tight end. Seven it's irrelevant like if you're not in the top twenty five running backs you are usually a relevant to last year. The running back thirty six just to give me some names for from last year's running back thirty six giovanni bernard the top.
Receivers to Target in the Late Rounds of your Dynasty Rookie Draft - burst 05
"Was drafted another god. I'm fairly high on From clemson at cal. I'll let you discuss him. I think about what rogers. I'm not nearly as high on rogers as they consis I think a lot of people saw him when he went to green bay. I think everybody's been so ready for the green bay packers to have another wide receiver inserted in the draft. You know and we're just intimidating in anticipating but you know. I really don't think amari rogers profiles is the number two wide receiver in the fact. That rogers is a situation is so up in the air to say the the to say the least you know. I am not projecting broader. You're gonna be there long term and if that's the case you know is jordan love gonna be all support a wide receiver you know. Are we even sure that amari rogers is better than allen. Lazard now is dead fund as the guy that they went out and got in free agency it to be the number to receiver going into last year before he opted out. You know he's back on the roster as well and he's only twenty seven years old. I think people are really forgetting about devin. Funchess to be honest with you You know this is a guy that has already been a top twenty wide receiver in his career. So i think there's a lot more competition in green bay than a lot of people are are are getting Giving them credit for and The roger situation really makes me uneasy. Amaury writers has some talent. I i just don't think he's anything special. I just think that he's at best a middle level starter of the nfl. And i don't see much of a window of him being much higher especially as long as davante adams is on that team. 'cause i just don't see that the target share i mean it's a. It's a team that clearly wants to run the ball as much as possible. So i'm not nearly as how marta riders. I i know a lot of people are people are taking them in mid second rounds now and i think that that's a mistake. I think he was the best of water. She would come out clemson for the tape stuff that i watch. Those are good points. There's a reason as to why. I say fairly high. It's because i have a lot of the same reservation that you do. But and i do. I'm generally concerned about aaron rodgers in the future in green bay with the quarterback situation. But i have to look back at amari rogers talent and what he did in his last year and clemson and what he did was ball out in my opinion. Seventy seven receptions. Thousand twenty yards seven touchdowns. Yes he had. Trevor lawrence thong him. The ball but still in a shortened season are very impressive. Numbers and amari. Rogers is a guy that has pretty much been undervalued this entire process and now all of a sudden he's going green bay people hiding him and i'm not high on him because he's going to green by on more high in him because of the talent and the potential that i see and i do think that he has the potential to be the number two receiver in green bay S a good gig. Because even if aaron rodgers is not there in a long term disturbance excellence head coach matt floor and they still have a quarterback enjoy jordan love and we really don't we haven't seen much from during love so we can't make a lot of assumptions. But he was still you still first round pick in an quarterback the has a lot of potential people were comparing him to patrick mahomes and he. He was more of a quarterback they just needed to be developed. So i think that. I think that there's a good chance that jordan love could turn into a successful quarterback if the packers ended up do and not Having rogers under center. So i think the during the love isn't a terrible option there and lathered and function function all could be a lot number two receiver in that office. But i think long term that amari. Rogers is the better prospect for may so that is why i tend to be a little bit higher on the mar bader's

Welcome back to the end zone and shaming Morris, Dennis 50 and Matt the hit man missing on the ones and twos and, yes, 90 Boom Boom leech coming back. On the other side, then that was Nico Collins. Getting drafted and thanking the Michigan football Twitter page and on the audio and telling everybody what they're going to get when he gets to the Texas You know, So you've got to be excited. These young men are very excited. And they, you know, Hey, Some of them didn't know they were gonna be drafted that I say. I'm just a paid to being drafted that but when it happens, You get excited about so You got you got to say it was. It was a heck of a day for Michigan football. You never know. Never know when your name is acting a Calder when you're going to get dropped, So, yeah, for any of those guys, you know, some of them somewhat projected third rounders still getting your name calling that third round. It's a It's a sigh of relief on Do you know? Like Nico said. It's It's been a lot of hard work a lot of hard work tol here and put himself in this position even with taking last season off, But now the hard work begins. So you had no great seeing him. We heard from my memory, Thomas a little bit earlier. But yeah, congratulations to both Those young men than all the other Wolverines started their journey here in the NFL. I'm still waiting for my name to be called. Yeah. You just wait every year. We're still waffle. Tanya. I'm getting ghosted. You know, it didn't ring one time. Nico. Cool. You know only thing. He doesn't know if he's gonna I don't think he's gonna be catching passes from the Shawn Watson. I think it's gonna be Tyrod Taylor or the Stanford QB Throwing through. Mills Mills. Yeah. David Mills up s O. We gotta open up the phones on this one, too, Because you know, it's a question. This is a major question, so apparently And I know you guys know the story. I'm going to try to get through the story with the listeners. So apparently we found out that Michigan State, uh, not a single player was was drafted. In this draft by. I mean, a Michigan state player was not drafted. Now. That's the first time in 80 years that happened. Second longest to Michigan. And I think USC I think in school, and, um Miss Michigan has always had has 82 years has had a player drafted. Aziz, the USC and would have On assistant coach. We'll call him assistant of assistant coach put out there. Indeed. I mean, I don't know if it was bad. I don't know It was good, but he put it out there. Hey, tweeting about And you know, the question is Should you tweet about two rivals, even e? I mean, walk on their misery. Michigan State. This is kind of a thing. Everybody, You know, everybody likes to have a player drafted. It set your program apart because you bring you you bring in players that go to the NFL. Michigan State didn't get a player drafted this year and on the tweet Ryan are well, I don't need to give us a name. I did, but I shouldn't have The coach put out there. I'm sorry, Matt. You you could be mad at me now you're talking about out there. Was mad at eight, which made you mad at me or him. I don't care why J. Matt Matt! Matt! Matt, Matt lied. She looked at me like he was crazy. You did not hate to see it. You know, it says the tweet, says Michigan NFL draft Michigan State goes without drafted player for the first time in 80 years. It was tweet read. It was tweeted up their hate to see it and then hire Dicus and followed it up. This was a little bit different. Here's was a laughing emoji. And it says, uh, Let's say they Bates News was was a Knauer in two. That's what I'd like to know that that wasn't his tweet. He said. I hate this. Okay, the laughing emoji, But he didn't say what it was like. He didn't But they're of the actual each news over there. But it was our two old Friday when he tweeted that so Yeah, exactly exactly said Damn, that hurts. I think ST Kitts put two and two together is what I think. Yeah, they put it together. Okay. Well, I mean, I do, But do you guys think that's right? She's Michigan Play puts your Michigan people or Are officials of the of the athletic department out. Just say the athletic department should they obviously they should have the right to do. If they're on Twitter. They should be able to say it, whatever they want to say, But Did you use caution when it comes to a rival like that? Uh, yeah, I say,.

"Sports Guys NFL draft. Senior bowl today and you know, we always talk about stocks. Rising stocks falling with certain players, and the Senior Bowl gives a lot of guys that opportunity but also This particular draft. You know, we could have we could have four quarterbacks taken. Everybody. How about Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields or Trevor? Launching Zach Wilson? What about trade? Lance added to that mix. Eric Welcome into CBS Sports radio. I want to start first with What you're hearing about this week at the Senior Bowl and who stopped did rise in there, in your opinion about it wouldn't pick any position you want, but whose stock rose this week at Singer Bowl practices. Yeah. Pleasure having being on the show. First of all, but, yeah, I wasn't able to go down there for the first time in several years, but They close on it of the practice tape and made plenty of phone calls. So you know it wasn't a banner quarterback here, right of the guys you mentioned, you know, underclassmen. Mack Jones, Alabama was probably the one who stood out the most. He didn't play in the game today because of Ah Of an ankle injury, just sort of playing it safe. And and that makes sense because he played well in the practice is, um, you know it stood out and do what he needed to do, But I think Kind of the offensive line group is really interesting. There was a kid for Wisconsin Whitewater who you may have seen, but the exposed belly named Quinn Miners wasn't able to have a fall season. You know all the FCS and lower level footballs got football got their seasons taken away, but he came ready to play and suffered a broken hand on Thursday didn't care practice the rest of the day. Wanted to play today before being ruled out. I think he helped himself David Maura kid from Grambling State. So this year, especially for the for the opt out guys or the players to miss time this fall. Without a combine. I feel like Small school guys had a lot to gain or somebody like Nico Collins from Michigan who didn't play this, Saul or, you know, So you know, the Pac 12 guys who opted out I think they're the ones who probably will come away with the most added value from this week. Eric when we talk about this quarterback draft because again, you know the star power at the top. Everybody talks about Trevor Laurence Generational talent, you know, armed, traveling through what he's able to do, and I don't disagree. The kids from George, I've seen him and you know Justin Fields. Obviously they talk about those two guys at the top. But are we sleeping on Zach Wilson from BYU? Yeah. I mean, I think he's the name that maybe two years ago. 2018 College season people knew his name a little cause. You know, you gotta be the Mormon man Zell nickname and then injuries really hurt him in 2019. He just didn't play as well, despite you know a couple of sets for BYU early in the season. You know, struggled against Utah's defense. I don't know what people were gonna work thinking of him coming into the season, But there were a lot of Not a day. Three projections. You know for NFL people. He still had a year of eligibility after this one. If you needed it. What you know, with BYU coming out, and they were one of the few West Coast teams to play early in the season. You know, he was putting on a show against lesser competition. People are kind of rolling their eyes. Yeah, okay. Big numbers and all that. But if you watch the tape, he made some absolutely absurd throat. Kind of stuff that You know, maybe Air Rogers and Patrick Mahomes attempt on the next level and a handful of others, So he was really flicking the ball with these putting it on the spot even bald that weren't completed..

"Got playing. But i love the fact that he's here. He and nausea nausea harris. The running back from alabama as well. Now i can't do anything. He his his ankles a grapefruit about two weeks ago He can't do anything physical contact but he's doing all the things and you know like the one on ones in things where he's not going to get tackled and he's in the meetings and the same with devante davonte is not even in pats but he's following a wide receiver coach. He's worth the offense to the entire day. He's he's getting to go. And have these one on once. I talk. gymnasts who is the executive director of Of the senior bowl they spent twelve thousand dollars. Plexiglass so that these guys could actually for the first time all year long. Have one on one meetings in person. Not on zoom not not on the facetime or anything else but in person and that's why there are one hundred thirty six players here compared to what usually is about one hundred and ten hundred twenty players. All these guys wanna be here even if they can't play their vote nine guys. That can't play because of injuries. Were they still showed up because they they wanna have these one on one meetings and let scouts and general managers head coaches coordinators. Know who they are and they go through so many different things down there. I know devante. Smith is not playing but he had an opportunity to be weighed and measured but declined to do those things. Why would he declined to be weighed and measured. We all know what he is. Yeah i i know. I don't the exact answer for that to be completely honest I do know that everyone's gonna have their pro day and and there's not gonna be a combine so everyone's the way measure their pro day and he will. He's a skinny guy you know he. He's compared to tomorrow harrison for the last couple of years. Now that's who he is. I mean he's he's about a little over six forty out about one hundred and seventy five pounds and my guess is. He's trying to put on a little bit overweight before he gets his height and weight measured probably in three or four weeks from now. Yeah in marvin. Everybody is marvin. Was one seventy five. No marvin was about ten pounds. Maybe fifteen pounds heavier than devante but vodka is still young. he still growing. Yeah and so. I can certainly only put on you. Only put on founders and years. Gone right yeah exactly. So certainly could see him getting a little bit thicker. There's a guy that's been making waves down there out of the university of oregon. Who's has a pretty good practices in thomas graham. What are you seeing out of him. He's really good. It's been impressive. They've been so. This is the i i will say this through to practices. This is the most competitive group. I've ever seen at the senior bowl. I mean you. Dwayne esser escorts. No one knows who who. This guy is from western michigan. He's going to be a top fifty pick and he he has been an absolute star nico collins a wide receiver from michigan who opted out this year. He's allowing you're six four to fifteen physical has speed to get over. The top wins the fifty fifty ball from Surat from from wake forest has had a really good reasons. Well i mean there. There are so many good players here. The one on ones in the seven on sevens have been so much fun to watch. Because the db's actually really good and the wide receiver. Group is as good as i can ever remember twenty three years of covering the senior bowl. Well i'm glad you said twenty three years because nobody ever going to be better than nineteen ninety-six. I don't give a damn what you say. I started in ninety nine but time. Schefter up to eighteen. Quarterbacks i could move teams this offseason. Qb's potentially available free agency and in trade. How does that affect how many. Qb's we'll see going. I it's a great question. It's going to be interesting to see. You got jacksonville at one. And i have to put trevor lawrence there right and then after that the jets the jets are the most intriguing. I think think in the entire first round at number two they have to first round is but it to 'cause they could go quarterback if they if they trade sam darnold They could offense vying with finacial. The offensive. I'm from oregon. They could go wide receiver But i i really think that they can move out of that spot another team like atlanta. Who's sitting at four new quarterback detroit seven new quarterback carolina eight neither quarterback. Any one of those teams could move up so depending on where these you know. The the veterans go and and some of the the free agency issues Free up you could see a lot of movement. New england needs a quarterback. They're sitting at fifteen. Where's aaron rodgers. Go where does matt scaffold. Go jimmy garoppolo. Leave san francisco go to new england. And we're going then doesn't need a quarterback at fifteen because 'cause aaron rodgers goes to san francisco so there's so many different things that could play out between now and the draft but those are the teams one jacksonville to the jets for atlanta seven detroit carolina. A those are teams in the top ten. That that right now at quarterback needy and you've got trevor lawrence. Zack wilson from byu. Justin feels from ohio state. Trae lance most dakota state and mack jones from from alabama or legitimate top twenty quarterbacks in the series class. That's an unbelievable star power. They're all heading to a couple of days now january thirtieth at the senior bowl in mobile. And for those of you wondering you know somebody is wondering mack. Jones redshirt junior but the reason. He's at the senior bowl is he's already a college graduate. Todd i believe that is correct..

"Time reminiscing with Leroy Hoard the 1989 M V P of the Rose Bowl in the Voice of Michigan football for decades. Gym's brand Santer here on Sports Talk 10 50 w T. K. Jim I heard about a year and a Gosh, Dad is talking about speed in space. And last Saturday against Minnesota. I saw a lot of speed a lot of space. What? What did you see on that same thing again? You gotta have the speed in order to get space and Donovan people Joe's wonderful receiver. So is Nico Collins, and he would have played it and then you used him this year as saving with Tariq Black. Those are big receivers. But you look at Alabama. They don't really have the big, big receiver what they've got. His guys could absolutely fly. And Michigan has that now with their freshman a J A. N E. On Roman Wilson and Giles Jackson and you get those guys the ball even in a little bubble screen. They make one guy missed. They go 60, and I think that's what Josh gave us is crying. Looking for and he's got it. Not that I'm not trying Except tell you that Nico and Tariq and Donovan People's Jones and you saw that people's Jones did last week for Cleveland, catching that chest down past one of the game. But but But in college football these days, if you're going to run a spread those guys who are on the perimeter who are detached If they've got speed, it can make one guy miss with someone. A man to man defense is out there. Boy speed space is a good way to go. Absolutely. And you know the last few years. People have questioned the quarterback play in the one way to help it is more room to throw it. Amen. Brother. When now you know the last big receiver that I could think of. That Alabama had was Julio Jones, but but he was just as fast as those little guys. You know, but for the most part, when you think of the big receivers that have come through Michigan, they were like possession. Guys, guys, We're going to go up and get it. That works great in NFL because you've got a lot of one on one matchups. But in college, it's all about speed and and separation, and the quarterback needs to see you open to throw it. There's not as much anticipation in college and so that's why this is gonna help a lot. Joe Milton. I think everybody was looking at him to see what he was going to do, basically played in mop up duties again games against Wisconsin, Ohio State the past couple of years. Jim Lee Roy. I saw a guy who was his cool as a cucumber in the backfield. Had a lot of poise may have run into that sack early on, but really is an overall impression. And even into the post game press conference, Jim he looked like a guy. I had expected to score 49 points expected that they were only going to attempt to pump once he just looked like afterwards. It's just like yeah, this is how I expected it to be. You know, a friend coming after you after the game that week, and he said something that I thought was really, really good. I didn't even think about it. You know, I didn't look like he was making his first start. And that's exactly what he looked like. He looked like a guy who'd been there before. And Leroy knows this having been a player even in the in the NFL, you gotta rookie quarterback or a young guy. You want him to walk into the Hubble like I've been here before? I know what to do. And Joe exactly was that way and the other thing I like he didn't try to do too much. They distributed the ball. He knows he's gonna have to make plays down the road. You'll have to make the player to He knows that. But he also is mature enough to know that I got so many playmakers around me. I get the bottom of those guys What those guys have their fun do their thing. And when it comes down to what I need to do it, I can do mine, too, but in the meantime, keep everybody happy. I really think Joe is a mature young man. Very bright, understands the offense beautifully. The way Josh got it set up for and boy skies like physically he's unbelievable. Physically back in the daily rite. When you play, he'd be a tight end. But but he is unbelievably physical bodies. Great mind understands The offense politically is off the charts. This could be that guy. You know that Jim has been looking for it is it's nice to see I like you. The way he had himself from this aspect aspect for so many years. When the quarterback or a new quarterback has come out. People have said, this has to be the guy. And sometimes during the course of that year. They've pressed They've pressed to the point where it didn't come across as success, but it was going the other way in a struggle. Um I like the fact that the way he's handled himself up to this point Is that, you know. Look, I don't have the weight of this team on me. We're a team. And we have talent all over this team, and where is going to take all of us to win now? That changes as the competition picks up as the circumstances pick up But you've got to start somewhere. And so, so far so good. We'll see when. When you start playing games that are a little bit tight. We'll start where, where every first down matters where Instead of missing three passes to win this game, you can only miss one during the drive. And so as the pressure picks up, we'll see you know how this translates into a real pressure cooker situation, but so far so good. I see from the right perspective with the key term is Don't let expectations ruin your ability to play. Well, look. What? How do you think I feel down here? They're too was get ready to make his first start. I know. Oh, my goodness comes here comes Dan Marino. You're right. Yes, yes. This fabric is Fitzpatrick is playing the best football in his career, and he and he's being benched. And, Yeah, you know, there was a plan, though it's recording will start to after the bye week. What happened was when Tennessee's team got the covert and they have to readjust the schedule to buy. We got pushed up three weeks. So now you have to make the decision..

"Nico Collins with a great wide receiver. I love Nico calls. I thought he did a great job. I was looking forward to seeing him come back to have a big year. I thought he would have had a big year to that being said. He's not coming back. They change. They change what they've decided. Ronnie Bell has become the leader ofthe this of the wide receiver corps. Along with along with Mike, Sam. You still along with Giles, Jackson, Corneas, Johnson. And I think the younger guys Roman Wilson is one guy that Jim Harbaugh talked about last night. The speed I mean, I'm going to say this. If you hear the coach and you hear the players talk about how much speed a kid has there really fast. I'm just telling you that kid's got jet speed. So somebody better wake up on their, um He talked about a J inning. You know he's got, but when they when coaches they're talking about you sometimes called to speech But when the players are talking about you two Players are impressed. They get impressed there your eyes and ears just like just like coaches when coaches they're talking about players, and when the players talk about that, listen to the defense of backs that that cover these kids. And who they bring And when they talk about that, I like Wow, Rolling Mills is going to be pretty pretty good little cities, if if his speed If his hands match is his speed we got we got ourselves a winner. I'm just telling I'm just letting you know that that's going to be something else because he could blow the top off it, they say. And I mean, and then they talked about the running backs. Hey went And these are the players he named he named Zack Chardonnay. Chris Chris Evans. Hassan Hospital. Haskins and Blake Cora. Have those don't start running backs he named So you know, when you got those names, and you hear that I'm just giving you Hey, those players those air the running backs that he's hyped about those running backs that get an opportunity to carry the ball. When a TTE least in the first game after that. We'll find out but at least in that first game when you hear those things, Eric Hall's name was brought up a lot really sets the tone on offense. He does a lot of things. He's good for the tight end different things like for the quarterback's. He's always shown himself and he helps the quarterback's out. I hear he's mean to me when I hear that. He's that he's that proverbial blanket that the quarterback's knee so when I hear that kind of speech that tells me, okay, we got a blanket. We got guys that that can go down the field. We got guys that can catch. We got guys that can run and we're happy with our offensive line. Not and they're doing the right thing. They're not individualizing the offensive line as you could see, not naming guys out of the office of Life. The offensive line is solid. That's what they say. That's what he keeps saying The offensive line is South. Offensive line is supposed to be a unit just one unit. That's all you do. Everybody else take it there. Name's Mitch, usually offensive line. It's a U. I think I know your offensive line coach likes that. Yet? No, You're definitely right. Jame O on 11 question. I want to leave you because I know we got to go to a break here real quick. But you know what I think? Ah, lot of people when you talk about some of the spots that you were just talking about wide receiver running back. You know, Blake Corum is the guy who is a freshman who hasn't. Actually, you know, hasn't been on an actual field before some of those wide receivers, same thing. Is it easier for? You know a wide receiver or the skilled position? Is it easier as a true freshman to come in? Obviously, times are different because we've had probably more time than normal than these kids have been used to coming in. But is it easier as a freshman coming in and with some of those skilled positions or that these these offenses are so complex these days and even wide receiver running back? It's not just Get the ball and run that there is so much going in that it will be still difficult for them to catch up. No, they'll put him in the place that they're most comfortable with. When you think about that. You don't run. You don't want to run complex offenses for freshman. You want to put them in and you want them to be successful. You especially want them to be to be successful, catching a pass going in for a touchdown. That really takes their level of confidence up to the top, So you really want to see how they how they can perform. At that level, with their confidence going high. That means you could put more into the system into the playbook the following week, because they they feel like I know, I know the book. I know the playbook. I'm getting more plays. I'm getting this They're going to stick them in in place that they're successful, out accessible Act in practice, they'll take it to the game field. They'll call a play. They'll make sure that freshman gets in and gets his opportunity. Whether it's Blake Corum. Whether it's Roman Wilson, a J hit me they will get their opportunities in place that work for them. Dad What River and Cornelius Johnson last year in talking smack after he caught a touchdown pass before Ronnie Bell. Go ahead, Dennis. No, I was just saying let it.

"You know, playing any spring or winter ball knowing that you know you have I know this free role for some of the guys. All of the guys, I guess. I mean, kind of, I guess how you approach that I would. I would try to get everyone as much of an opportunity. But I mean, obviously you want to give the onus to those who would return that have that opportunity to go to the NFL draft right now. But you are obviously gone and Mayfield memory Thomas this point So, saying Nico Collins does come back. You want to kind of give him a little bit more of a showcase because obviously it speaks really well to to your program. And you? I think you owe it to him, considering he did it, You know, decide to come back for another year when he really didn't have to. I think that you would have been. Ah, I think you would have been a third rounder at worst, if he would have left early, which is kind of the benchmark that I used Should you go? Should you not go so 36 around a guy like Nico and ah or garlic Twitty pay who Pro football focus yesterday gave him put him in the middle of first round number 14 a role in their mock draft. I think that you got it. You know, give showcase physicians to those guys. But yeah, at the same time. Except for maybe in that Ohio State game, But it's definitely early. I think you want to see what you've got. Because you've had these guys that have been working out. You know the people who would be freshmen. Aren't exactly your typical freshman. No, they haven't seen They haven't seen another team, but they won't have to see another team in that time frame, but especially those early enrollees like a guy like Blake Corum. He's been on campus since January. Actually, December. He got three practices in last year, while Michigan was preparing for Alabama. Might as well try to see what you got out of him because he essentially by the time that he would see competition is equivalent to a sophomore. Maybe even close to a junior at that point, as faras experience but learning the playbook and strength and conditioning and going through practices and all of that type of stuff. So I think it would be a great time to see what you have. I know the speculation is that they would have eight games Total and Big 10 championship game and Marge and I still think you want to try to win that. I know it would be kind of a horde. Well, if this is the you know, here's that Michigan takes down Ohio State and win the big 10 and they do it in the winter months. I wonder how much staff would take into that. But at the same time Take advantage of what you have. And that does mean trying to win games. But because this is a little bit of a different circumstance, I think you can tinker a little bit, but you still want to try to have a play. Traditional heart while you're still with me, so be careful, but they're goingto Now defended about going to one I mean, you're gonna have Regardless of that. I think that Yeah. You utilize guys like Andre Selden a little bit more than you already were. And I know that he was already kind of getting penciled in as a as a complex. But now a little bit. You had every Thomas and then Vincent Gray and maybe a platoon between Vincent Gray and D. J. Turner. Now you either have those guys on opposite sides. You workin You work in jail in Perry, the Green twins. You're a little bit thinner at that position. So a guy like Andre Selden or daring Green Warren, I think you can use the you know, use some of those moments is ah!.

"Click on the podcast segment. And, Ah, we got Dennis back here on the M zone, everything I'll go down and you know what? It's great to be here on the M Zone it it really is being looking down and seeing that spinning wheel a little bit saying that I was Reconnecting. It was the only sad part of this show since I've been on But now I'm back, man. It feels good. So I'm ready to go already talked lots of wide receivers here, and I know that you are as well. We've talked cubes. We talked some running backs and we just You know, didn't talk a lot about Joe Milton. But you know, the wide receivers and Michigan has been chock full of them for the last couple of years, and I don't think and don't feel like they've been ableto. Maximized all of their potential. But when you look at what they have now we want to ask people about When you think about these Michigan wide receivers who do they really need to make sure they get the ball to 734998 10 50 then just a general question when you think of college football, and you think a wide receivers you know who is your favorite college wide receiver, So we've got two things here for you. That you can call in on at 734998 10 50 Your favorite college football wide receiver. And what Michigan wideout? Do they really need to make sure they get the ball to alright, Matt. Let's get into it. It's it's that great position is one of those spots here. Like running back in quarterback to skill position is one of these where you're a fan. And you know this is one of those glamour positions, love the wide outs and I'm interested to see where you're going to go. We love those home run hitters. We love the guys that make the big plays. And so you know, talking on looking at your first question of who Of this Michigan wide receiving corps. Do they need to make sure they either get going? O R make the concerned effort to give the ball to in there. There are a lot of Very talented wide receivers on the team. Like you said. We've had what seems like a plethora of talent but haven't been able to maximize it. So we have Great, You know, great guys, Ronnie Bell and Cornelius Johnson and you know a number of guys who have come in. But you know again to me, the guy that we've gotta make sure. Get the ball to to maximise all of his efforts are that big guy who's taken over the big number at the wide receiver position number one that would be Nico Collins. He is the big bodied, deep threat wide receiver that Michigan has seeming to be missing for. A little while here. The deep threat has not been a big part of Michigan's offense in what seems in a long time and in coach Gaddis is offense that is going to be one of the things that is necessary being able to stretch to the vert the field vertically, so we had some other speedsters. That I think will be certainly big in Michigan's offense and in this wider Stephen core. But if I had to pick one guy Teo to make sure that we had to, you know, get the ball to and it's going to be in a variety of ways. It's not going to be just getting the ball down the field. But you know Nico Collins, is that that big body that number one guy that We need to make sure and showcase that he is a number one wide receiver. Yeah, that's just sit around and agree with you here, you know, might make Ah, for better listening if I was like, went with somebody else, but I'm right with you on Nico Collins. Man. Here's a guy with the size. He certainly deserves that number one jersey with the ability to wear it. I mean, he could have easily have gone into the NFL draft. The thing for me is that it's one of these. He's one of these guys that I don't know if he's underrated Teo to Michigan fans I was looking through. I think it was CBS. They had a story like Top 25. College Wide college, returning college football wide receivers, and I thought, Well, we're gonna have Nico is even being a top 10 hit me wherever he's that, you know. I'm starting to go through it. They were scrolling through and they started at 25. It was a big list. I'm going through my alright. Well, they probably got it in the top 10. Now as I went through it Top 10 like No, You know, there's the guy from Purdue. There's the guy from Minnesota now and you know there. There's a lot of a wait a second. You know, Now we're getting down into the top five. There's the guy from Clemson and Here we go. And there's you know the guy from Alabama and yet they did not have Nico in the top 25 it's just like he was he was under utilized last year. Usually two candidates have the pound the ball to him and make sure That you're getting it to him, and they can roll coverage is they can do whatever else but he's big enough in the red zone that you can throw it up to him almost doesn't matter who's covered him there. And he just He makes those contested catches Where if I'm Josh Gattis and I'm sitting in there, they're out there and they have a football season. I'm telling Dylan McCaffrey or Joe Milton. Whoever it is, man. We got to make sure that we're getting the ball to number one..
Michigan Football Chatter: Nico Collins and Donovan Peoples-Jones might come back to the team
"Niko Collins down of peoples' Jones there's a lot of rumors are some good vibes out there that both of these guys might come back after treat black just announced late last week that he was he was going to enter the transfer portal and of any schools have been associated with him yeah I know a lot of people started following him on Twitter but in that same vein nickel Collins and down hills Jones some reports out there that here they would like to come back for their senior year Zack and if you've heard anything like that but what we'll talk about here is if they get both of them back what that could mean for Michigan football in two thousand twenty means a lot right it's ME builder baby to their their five most dangerous players on the team L. Collins actually played up to statistically people Jones I thought was big in some key spots but maybe didn't find it I mean that's that's what it came down to is their draft grade we just we're going over the CVS draft maybe we did it during a break instead of on the show but calling the people Jones were what fourth and fifth round picks I don't yeah I was surprised by how low they were you know I'm a big I'm a big believer in go when someone will pay you because you know life is short in the NFL but at same time you're twenty twenty one and you come back and improve your stock yeah I I'd say more power to you because you have that opportunity will be interesting to see what they actually do because I think it would be a testament to what they believe the quarterback passing game situational be like next year if they think that they can move up in the draft with another year what I don't know someone asked me on Twitter you know what they could they wait until the fifteen ball practices are done and get a feel for Joh Milton or don't McCaffrey and I would bet that at this point they they probably know I mean either one of these guys is supposed to get the starting job in the bowl game I mean they're going to go out there and treat this like the final game of two thousand nineteen not the first came in two thousand twenty and preparing themselves for next year and so you know if they don't know already what what Joh Milton until McCaffrey are I don't think that's gonna change and bull crap here but I do agree with you I I do think that is a a kind of a connection to this if you decide to come back you're not coming back if you think like man V. the quarterback room and the passing game is gonna regress considerably here because all you're really come back for is if you think that the last three or four games when they were both being targeted you know six and seven times a game and have an opportunity to catch five balls a game if that's consistent what's gonna be next year now you can put up those bigger numbers now you can catch the eye of more scouts and so yeah I would think that be a very positive sign for mission of both those guys come back for the quarterback room and also for obviously the wide receivers I mean we're already you know everybody's really excited about Ronnie bell and the rise of Josh Jackson like senior still you had these two guys in there and what you know that I mean if you're Joe motor Joe McCaffrey said yourself like all like you know we're in the red zone I'm I have a tough time finding open perceiver Hey I can just check the ball to the corner nickel counts gonna go get it how much is that help a young quarterback my goodness yeah in the end they can get better still I don't think it's out of the question that in how people Jones and Colin they missed a lot of spring practice they missed a lot of summer practice I I don't know their health situation I don't I don't know enough but I imagine it would be healthier this year could be and then you build that chemistry bill that report and players get better I a you know it's everyone gets better different speeds but I always laugh when people are like yeah I've heard enough about such and such improving no players improve when they play college football for a long time that's why a lot of you know there's not too many freshmen who are the best players in the country you start to see it more now but usually it's the juniors and then the easy casual senior but it's it's the it's a big deal it would be it would significantly pollster Michigan's offense of potential it would raise some questions because you how do you use them do you still go pass first even if you're changing quarterbacks but I think it would be a net positive for Michigan some players should not come back there are some players and more so in other teams that I notice in Michigan where they come back in it and I think both sides kind of regret it because there's not a lot of you know it's a you're you're thinking about the NFL too much or the chemistry is off with some of your new teammates I think both of these guys I mean if they're if they're said to come back I think it's a it's a big win for Michigan Brandon if if these guys come back amber Thomas is expected to come back we pay last night at the show me awards said that he expects to come back if all these guys that could have I know we look at this list last week I think it was on your hosting day the six players who are all eligible to go pro all of them came back does that saying anything about what they think Michigan football could be in two thousand twenty yeah I think that's fair I mean are you know if they've got a chance well some of it does come down to the whole draft great thing too I mean if these guys are thinkin of animal finally you know realize my dream and go pro and then they get a draft grade back of like fourth or fifth round that might be a little bit of a you know a little bit of a blow to the ego and also just a just a dose of reality like okay I'm not me maybe I'm not quite as good as I thought and I can prove it I can prove that I am better than this by coming back so I think it's there's probably several factors but I certainly think that's one of a might like these guys want to win they're not gonna come back if they think they're going to be worse than they were this year that they have no chance of meeting Ohio state or that they have no chance of possibly making it to the playoffs like I think that certainly factors in this is big time college football they came to Michigan for a reason and they want to win and I certainly think that when you're as talented as Michael Collins and out of people's own our they're probably thinking like okay they could be pretty good next year and we come back we can be really good that maybe we like it also out of his car arrogance our confidence or cockiness or whatever you want but they know that they're making the team better so why not come back and try to take it to another level another year and Josh gad as a system from everything I've heard players tend to like Josh gad as I know he's pretty hard core on the sidelines he gets in guys faces but I think everybody also respects and he's a younger guy he's a really he's a really detail oriented coach I feel like he thinks players think that he's getting them better I think there's a lot to it but I don't I think I think it does speak to like where Michigan is a maybe wear those guys think they could be next year and I I think you got it I think you got a look between the lines a little bit and maybe realize it like they look there think in those two quarterbacks if you're pretty damn good we saw it we think with another year like it could be special with them I think that's got to be part of what they're thinking about yeah absolutely I mean if you can if if if you told me going Donovan Hey what we did the last three games we're gonna do that over twelve games next year and they had now have evidence and they can believe it and you've got some else tell you like Hey you're you're projecting great right now is third or fourth round I mean to me unless it's an easy decision because you're still given up you know some money but are you are you but you gotta put on the best position to be successful the next level and I think they'll be coming back see the reason the CBS sports things also a project to pick like a sixth round pick an obscene somethings I have them all a first round pick the good news is for these guys is that they have much more trusted sources like telling them what projections are verses like that just going up the randomness of every sports website out there I'll say this too in in Donovan people Jones and eco Collins cases specifically if they come back and

"So Chris Evans has been officially declared out for the two thousand nineteen football season. He will have a chance to rejoin the immersing team in two thousand and twenty Jim Harbaugh confirmed that to the Detroit News and to twenty four seven sports over the weekend. Josh Gad is Michigan's offensive coordinator was at the sound mind sound body camp this weekend, he was asked about his wide receivers. There's quite a few stories out there. Details about them. One of probably the biggest piece of information was he said that both Nico Collins Donald people's Jones were healthy and back to work with their team. Mates getting ready for the football season. If you've been following the story there has been, including from my perspective from my point of view from using, you know, my one of my sources on this, that, there is a considerable concern over Donald people's Jones health status for the nineteen season bothered by a groin injury was not responding to treatment. But, you know, there was there was at least one person, the media, a B some of the worked for cover Michigan state reporting, he was going to be out for the year and that I thought that was always premature, because Don with people's Jones had a lot of time between the start of may and preseason camp. Open up the first week of August to get himself, right? To say definitely unless there was a surgery that took place and the doctor said, well, here's surgery and now it's going to be eight twelve months. Of recovery. If that was as far as I know that was never done, if that wasn't on the table, then to say, well, he can't respond to treatment of three months. I was felt that was a premature. Premature, you know, report or or comment that he was going to miss the season. So that is obviously really good news for for Michigan football and having Nico in appeals Jones back in the fold and what you can do with down people's Jones if he's one hundred percent healthy. You know, you saw the routes that saying, we're still you saw the routes that Ronnie, bell ran in the spring, scrimmage and the cross routes getting them into space, getting them up the sidelines that they're pulling away from people or in a position to make guys miss. Those are all things down appeals Jones does really well. This could be a huge boost for the offense for Chris Evans. You know, I don't think in this studio anyway, we were planning on Chris Evans, being back with the Michigan football team and sales and nineteen so in that respect it's it's not ground shattering news. But it's definitive now definitive, he's not coming back Michigan's going to rely on some type of trio courts. Set of true Wilson, a senior who is former walk on has about sixty carries. In his career has never been a number one or number two for Michigan. Rely on Christian Turner, a redshirt freshman. We saw two glimpses of laster early on in the season in September. And then in the Florida game in the bowl game Zach Chardonnay the four star borderline five-star freshman coming in, then, unfortunately missed the spring with an injury having some some knee surgery. And then, and then Ben, Ben Sumatran guy who thought of maybe people thinking of maybe the next fullback expand Mason, but he got a long look in the spring at the running back spot. So that's probably your four that's probably four guys that are going to be carrying the ball for Michigan. If you sustain an injury, that's my only concern at this point is if you sustain an injury to Wilson turn or Chardonnay. You're really, really lacking for death. And you are really lacking for explosiveness, especially we're talking about Turner, or charbonnet of the two guys with the with the homerun ability to the two guys with the, the best speed the best burst. You know, if you want to win at the ultimate level, you want to beat Ohio State, you want to win a big ten title, you want to couch while playoff, you wanna have elite playmakers at all those spots. And, and that certainly hurts Michigan a little bit same time. Mike saying we're still could be probably used out of the backfield. We saw in the spring scrimmage line up next to shape. Patterson going out for a route. They do have some options of guys that they can move positions. Michael barrett. You know he's he's he's played a little bit of running back. He's played some wide receiver some slot. He's now at the viper spot. Could he move over to that side could amber? Thomas who's good with the ball in his hands. Could he move over to that side could Giles Jackson coming in as wide receiver? But could potentially play running back Michigan's going to have a couple of options at that position leading into camp in August. So we're talking about that. I'll talk a little conspiracy theories. I have one more conspiracy theory for you, MS. Okay. There's a personal conspiracy theory. Oh boy. So no, I'm not leaving the show. No. You know, if you've if you've heard I look, I've share bits and pieces of the story, never maybe the full thing. So my, my dad grew up Catholic. You know, he he had to favorites of where he wanted to go to college. He like a lot of of Catholics growing up in that were fans of football. They wanted to go Notre Dame. He also really liked university of Michigan. He was accepted into both, but he couldn't afford the university of Notre Dame. And so he went to I don't wanna say by default. He never looked at it like that. But he went to Michigan. He could pay in state tuition. He worked in the summer, cutting lawns and odd jobs, and my mom eventually got they got married and she helped pay for his final year of college. And so he went university of Michigan. When my older brother, wanted to go to Michigan had cancer got sick ultimate ended up at Albion, and so there's a lot of, hey, you need, you know, pressure on me to go to Michigan. Now, I've been going to Michigan football games and on this campus my entire life. It was one of my three choices, but my dad wanted me to apply to northwestern and Notre Dame and on the day that Michigan beat Michigan state and football in October of two thousand nine hundred ninety seven Charles Woodson made the famous interception. I was except to the university of Michigan and my older brother, who had desperately wanted to go there ran around the house yelling. Michigan are Michael's going to Michigan. Mike going to Michigan. Michael is going to Michigan. And it was just like there's just no way at that point. Right. Regardless of what Notre Dame regardless of what northwestern said that I was going other anywhere other than u of m I ha I mean, my brother and he needed this, right? Well, this was on a Saturday and on Sunday as I'm getting ready for bed and the whole thing I my, my mother mentions that I had a package. And it was she left it on my upstairs on my desk, and it was under a couple of books. And this package was a not fairly thick, but thick enough. Envelope from Notre Dame. And the package was an acceptance letter to Notre Dame. Wow. And yet, I didn't see this acceptance letter on Saturday. I only saw an acceptance letter from Michigan. On Saturday when my brother running around the house. So my conspiracy was always that my parents withheld it because they wanted to they wanted pay in state tuition. Okay, or that they wanted because they knew how much meant to my brother, John, that they wanted me to go to Michigan for him and the whole thing. So I don't have any regrets. I loved the university of Michigan. I now have a career for the last twenty years based around the university of Michigan, but I wonder and my mom anytime I've ever brought it up. She kinda chuckles and says, Michael that's ridiculous. Why would we hide mail from you? And I said, but when did you get the package? Go. I don't I don't remember when we got the package. And I'm like, well, have you, did you get on that exact same Saturday and she's like, well that would be a coincidence, wouldn't it? Well, if you didn't get on that exact Saturday that you had it for, like Friday, or Thursday, or Wednesday or something like that, something, you around the Bush, mom held it then just held it in and the whole thing. So they always, I've always felt that my parents conspired to make me to have me go, the university of Michigan day. My, why are you trying to hide it from me just tell me beat around the Bush? So just to say that game on Saturday. It wouldn't make a difference. Right. I mean again I I loved my experience. I have great friends. I the whole thing. I mean, it's where I've, I've for twenty years. My life has been all about university of Michigan. So but I do think that they. Yeah, I mean a little bit to hell. Notre dame. Precise. Thanks. That's precisely right? Yeah. Anyway, I just thought I'd share a little bit. Nice little personal story there, though. Yeah. When we come back a couple of topics finish off today's show. mS. What do you feel about that middle? Tennessee game at night. Don't say it now. Okay. I'll hold it. Because that came out, I think on Thursday came up. Right. Or came on Thursday. It was on. It was on the John Howard induction process because you and I, we touched on it a little bit after the press right after the press conference wrapped up. Yeah. And then I was off on Friday and you guys doing the chance to talk about it. Yeah. Opening game of the season seven thirty pm how to folks feel about it. Since the hot on sports talk ten fifty dubbed ticket,.

"Obviously Ohio State plays at Michigan this year. And where Ohio State doesn't have that head coach quarterback continuity, losing a first ballot hall of Famer in urban Meyer and then losing Dwayne Haskins. You just mentioned who had arguably the greatest passing season in the history of the big ten, and then, you know, Michigan on the other side returns both the coach and the quarterback. I feel like if Ohio State hadn't won fourteen the last fifteen against Michigan. Most people would accept this pretty easily, given all the factors. I just mentioned. And yet I hear a lot of people who still say Ohio states the team to beat what what's your thought on the conference race? Well, I do tension. The FBI is doing awesome job with that. And I I definitely use it as a tool when I'm doing my research. So I think with Michigan. It's kinda we'll believe it when we see it. And they were last year. I think it's still the shock value of last year going into that game expecting Michigan to finally win that rivalry game of hardball. And then getting blasted six to thirty nine and Columbus where they look kinda helpless on the defensive side of the ball, not kind of very helpless, and that will be the motivation this year because on paper. Yeah. And all the the analytics to it. Sure. You've got a quarterback coming back. That's pretty good and shape. Patterson? I think you've got three NFL receivers. Intrigued black on the people's Jones. And Nico Collins got new offense coordinator in this promise that they're going to open it up. So if all those things happen in theory. Yeah. Against the tough schedule. They should be able to win the big ten east. But you gotta beat Ohio State to do that. So I'm wondering do you. Do we judge Jim Harbaugh and ten wins? Not really we're judging him on against Ohio State. That's the last game. You have to win. Yeah. Absolutely. And like, you said believe it when we see it. And unfortunately for Michigan. They've kind of earned that when you lose fourteen fifteen to arrival of that's just kind of what you get from their big ten playoff outlook. We went into last season feeling like there could be as many as five legitimate playoff contenders..

"Here's what I don't. It's easy to say. Michigan doesn't play great offense. They don't they play unbelievable complimentary offense. Did you know that their fourth in the country and time of possession? You know, what that means for their defense? They've seen fifty-six less snaps overall this season than Alabama three a weekend. I mean that's a full game. They've basically played a full game less than Alabama has on the defensive side. They've seen one hundred sixty plus. Yeah. Oh, you that's all I'm saying is they play complementary. Right. I mean, that's how Jim Harbaugh wants to play. If he wanted to score forty five. I think that they could I just don't think that their defense would be as dominant if they did that. Did you watch them against north western I did I did the game. Yeah. I know they were trying to score and they couldn't ugly first of all they're running back corps is better now than it has been during the course of the entire season their offensive line much. You're making me argue for a team. That's clearly. Very good. And it's a very easy argument. They've got Tariq black back as a wide receiver right now. He's probably their most talented wide receiver. They've got three monsters. Nico Collins, Donna and people's Jones, I'm Tori black by the way. They got the top NFL tight end John with you. Okay. Right now, put your name on it show me some put some respect on my name. Bama. Michigan play tomorrow. What's the score? I would say Bama Bama wins that game thirty to twenty one thirty two thirty four seventeen. I would bet my 4._0._1._K. That's it's not that close. Okay. Bam oklahoma. Some respect on it. A Bama wins in a OSU. Bama matchup probably fifty six forty two. And you choose the other one fifty six forty thousand home runs in eight candy. You're like. You literally said bam Oklahoma fifty six forty two that's like the world's best bowl of ice cream. And it's not it's still a blowout. Somebody drops for you know, what you go. There's a bowl of kale outside the studio you enjoy that. Go have a big buck. You know, kale used to be what they put at Wendy's buffet in between the meals by the ice. I gotta go. I'm worn out from you our Laurie out here, we go.

"And another position group that was very weak last year whether receivers that's year, after of course, Lew losing J Chattan and living tomorrow, Dr bow to the NFL they had a bunch of freshmen who weren't very good, and they weren't getting better either because they didn't have a dedicated coach to them and this year, of course, mcilvaine isn't a great job with some big ten receivers. Like tight ends that gantry and Nico Collins and guys like that. So that has been a much improved group. And when you let me know, let me know when you figure out how this actually works. How you? Come archenemies when one year and best friends the next. I don't get it. I don't think I'll be able to do that. But, but but I will say you're among my very favorite guest any day of the year in John. Thank you. So very much for coming. I'll look forward to hopefully, we'll we can get together with the playoffs. And really, let are your your hair down. Not mine. I'll buy the first one Paul can't why John thank you so much.
