Alabama's Nick Saban's thoughts on signing class, Bryce Young

"Are listening to nick. Sabin lie in Tuscaloosa. Misteri works her tail off and You know Everybody in this organization In recruiting Do a great job of trying to develop a kind of relationships to make people comfortable here and show them how they can be more successful in life for having been involved in the program which takes up a tremendous team so You know you know you know me. I I know that all these classes get ranked and rated and all that kind of stuff and I always say that you know how they get ranked and rated three years from now you know is really You know the the telling tale of you know how well this recruiting class really. It was and we're pleased. We were able to identify some needs early. thought we fill those needs Probably the most important thing is I think this is really a character. Quality Group of young men We don't have guys that have any issues or whatever and They worked really hard. And I've been great teammates for the teams that they played for so You know we basically have twenty players we can talk about and several others But we do you have room to continue to recruit you know several other players so You know we're we're actually excited about that as well and you know you guys got this release piece of you know. How many guys have this many stars in that many stars and this is all news to me? Because that's not really how we recruit guys we kind of evaluate You know critical factors every position recruit guys that you know Phil what we want to play their position here in Alabama Emma. And we're we're pleased with the guys that we've been able to attract y'all loaded up with that guy. It's on the defensive side of the ball guys it could be outside linebackers or defensive events for Y'all was that a big need for Y'all what do you think you got out of that group. No I definitely think that we really like That group of guys They're all very talented. They all good pass rushers. They're all long So you know losing two guys that we'RE GONNA lose this year Losing other guys that we've recruited are no longer in the program. You you know created a great need at that position. We're really pleased with The players that we have at that position because you touched on there but what were some of the biggest need you guys identified for this signing class. I think that you know defensive players You know wanted to get a couple more more guys up front. I think we did You know we're GONNA still try to add to that you know in the future Edge players which we just talked about You know we wanted to get at least Four DB's from which I think if it's not been released so far it will be by the end of the day so You know two safeties in two corner. F- you know sort of add to that group. We've been trying to play catchup since we ED. The six guys leave a couple years ago All at once four seniors in two guys garage early for the draft. So it's been a work in progress to try to develop enough depth the net group but That's that was a need We always want to at least replace. You know the the offensive Lineman so we. We've we feel good about that which I know some of it hasn't been released yet So you know wide receiver I always try to WANNA do things one year in advance knowing for sure of the future at that position in some ways Always always important to get a really quality quarterback which you know we feel really good about bryce how young I mean. The Guy was Outstanding as a high school player very mature very smart good leader played. A great program has high expectations for Himself as shuttle's what the team should accomplish And you know we felt like up that running back with something that we needed as well We still want to recruit On we got one tight end And we still would entertain you. Know another one at that position so We still have a few spots that would like to add to you. But you know that's kind of There wasn't one specific thing but you know sort of what are you going to lose versus. What are you going to gain? I'll type of approach approach. And you know how we want to try to recruit guys

Tua resting after successful surgery on hip

"Anyway I to a ton of Isla resting inside after successful hip surgery turned out to be a scary so yeah yeah Todd coach Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban said he wasn't second guessing his decision to play his star quarterback at the end of the first half in Saturday's thirty eight seven victory over Mississippi state some of our lowest dislocated hip ending his season possibly as college career sources confirmed to ESPN they also suffered a post here your wall fracture the prognosis is excellent expecting to make a full recovery but as the the residents Alabama fan in the room had another dollar how did you feel about to one who was a game time decision still being in the game at that time is fine B. so too is probably he's gonna play that play in the not play in the rest the second half so he was going to finish the two minute drive and then and then it would have been a he was gonna play in the second half that's fine because it wasn't it's not like he hurt the ankle this is a freak accident that could happen on the first play if you if he wasn't healthy then don't claim in the game at all I'm not mad at saving for playing in a what you don't want to say you're mad then have to go sit a dinner and get stared at me look if he's healthy you played with the doctors clear to me is healthy you play and if he's not then you don't play him did they need him to beat Mississippi state probably not they were up thirty five seven at the time thirty five seven I'll tell you this Baylor blue twenty eight to three lead two yeah the home that was Oklahoma not Mississippi state understand but there's nothing wrong if you're going to don't then play the whole

Heisman Watch: There's no stopping Jalen and Tua

"So former teammates to a tunnel by Lola and Jalen hurts continued to go toe-to-toe each week as the race for the heisman heats up last weekend to through for nearly four hundred fifty yards and five touchdowns against South Carolina meanwhile Jalen Pass for just just under three hundred yards and three touchdowns along with one hundred and fifty yards and another touchdown on the ground according to Fox too is now just a slight favourite win the heisman over the QB he replaced in Tuscaloosa joined by Fox College football analysts Reggie Bush good to have you so regret giving up on Jalen no not at all regret giving up on Jalen life is good in in Alabama real mess team and caused football really you got the best quarterback in college football guaranteed to make the playoffs even with one loss and I think even L. Obama lost two games they still figure out a way to get him in the playoffs and when to a- leaves they just going to replace him with another five star quarterback so life was good in Alabama. I don't think Nick Sabin has any reason to even worry about. Losing Jalen hurts because his quarterback has right now beat out jalen hurts for that starting starting spot and so to me when I look at the big picture because I do think Jalen hurts has the best shot out of the two to win the heisman trophy because he played the situation perfectly. He went from having to face. SEC every week to facing big twelve defenses every week which everybody knows they don't really play a lot of defense in the big twelve and so so when I look at the big picture he's going to continue to put up these kinds of numbers every week because there's not a single defense on that roster on schedule that can stop them It looks like a heisman winner to me. I thought it'd be well. No twelve zero peaks really has yet to really dupleix insignificant time in the fourth quarter. No he will regret his skip. Jalen hurts got beat up but let me tell you how much coal saving love. Jalen hurts cold all saber replace. Jalen hurts in the National Championship game against Georgia to Accom- back lease them to a victory coach. David Love Jalen hurts so much that then he puts the job up into sprees. Whoever wins it in the spring? That'll be my starting quarterback. He'd beat up to t t t t feed him out again. Okay so what I said. You know what this is my last year. I want to go play Kevin. I can't beat him about. He just beat me out last spring. I'm not going to beat him about this free so what was supposed to do he goes. He goes to Oklahoma wishing well. It's the same thing can can album commit coach saving et. Cetera compare what was going to be that Derrick Henry couldn't be that yielding couldn't beat. Andrei saw his playing time with limited he against the running back. We're talking about quarterback a a much more important. My point is if you can't be the guy out and you don't want to sit the bench. Let me go somewhere where I can play. He went to Oklahoma. "In a row seven of Nick Saban's deputies at the university of Alabama from the previous season staff including both the offense of and defensive coordinators left Alabama for coaching jobs elsewhere the result is that not one assistant from his twenty seventeen staff which coach the team to a national championship remains in and on the field roll Wall Street journal reporter lane Hagens says the unprecedented exit this raises the question is there something about Nick Saban's management style the prompt his lieutenants to leave no matter how many national titles the tide win lane what have you found so it's a little bit complicated to parse out exactly why so many of these coaches are leaving Alabama a lot of them are promotions and several of Nick's even deputies in recent years have gone on to become head coach elsewhere you know example dot is Mike Locksley who's now head coach at Maryland however there are some departures that seem to be maybe for other reason one coach was fired last year one coach left for the NFL and presumably took a massive pay cuts to do so but you know that's not to say that all of these departures are necessarily a bad thing because often a sign of success in college football is this your assistance are being poached for higher profile rolls off where that means you're usually doing something right that's what I thought initially and then be a reading between the lines are perhaps my own speculation I thought the the number of guys who refused to comment on your story seemed indicate to me that they didn't necessarily. want to discuss what they went through which may have been appeared of burn out yeah it's hard to really tell what exactly is going on with that many people don't want to go on the record about it you know some of them had good reasons for doing so and next day then does have a policy of refusing to grant interviews with his assistance that are currently employed on the staff so it might have just been you know respect for his process there but you know without being able to talk to and it's really hard to know what exactly is going on but there's no doubt that the environment that he creates is very intense in the national championship losses that he suffered in the past what handful of years at least a one of those he said it appears that some of my guys who had accepted head coaching roles elsewhere were distracted ahead of their biggest game. and he said to me that he's talking about for years including in years when Alabama has one and that a lot of the promotions that happening college football happen after most the regular season is done so sometime in December and that precedes the postseason games and what's now the semi final and final for the college football playoff and that means that if the coach who is an assistant state offensive coordinator at Alabama becomes the head coach elsewhere they're having to manage the recruiting at the new school because signing day very fast approaching and recruiting is kind of a twenty four seven three sixty five or deal in college sports now regardless of the and hit by a lot about it and then you're also trying to prepare your current team to go play championship game such as a lot to ask of anyone and I think that they've been a sympathetic about speaking with Lin Higgins Wall Street journal sports reporter her pieces called nixie been wins national titles he loses assistant coaches a reference to the head coach at the university of Alabama football program she's so I mean are those numbers at all similar to what happens another championship type programs all throw their obviously climb soon or maybe an Ohio state I mean there certainly is turned over and if you look at any of those programs there's probably in the last three years at least one coordinator assistant at last but it's rare to see seven lead two years in a row like a habit Alabama things ling ling taken swill street journal sports reporter twenty two minutes now in front of the hour on this weekend. what a day for tennis you ready to play is everything alright this site is pressure Allegra D. knows that allergy congestion can get.

University of Alabama is tracking students to see if they leave football games

"Nick Saban head football coach at the university of Alabama as complained for years now about Alabama students see they're not showing up or leaving early when they played cupcakes all you mean like southern Mississippi yeah like that. so the university has developed an app. to try to keep students around. it's just a little bit creepy. because the tracks the students when there are Bryant Denny stadium. and it tells the university when they leave the stadium. so here's how the app works according to The New York Times story. the tide loyalty points per gram students who typically pay about ten Bucks or home ticket download the app they earn one hundred points for attending a home game and an additional two hundred fifty for staying until the fourth quarter. so they give you points if you don't get enough points you don't qualify to get any post season tickets for like bowl games in college football playoffs American stuff so they're trying to bribe you into staying if your student until the end of the game by tracking you how you feel about that I guess if you know you're being tracked it's one thing I just wonder how up front

"Alabama head coach nick sabin was pretty angry angry after students left early during the tide sixty two ten below out of new mexico state the coach did not think it was his problem but someone else's and here's what he had to say i hope that there's something that we could do that would enhance their wanting to stay and have the spirit to stay and all that but i don't really know much about all that stuff that's not my cup of tea trying to figure out how to stop you know snakes seven flap okay so so what should nick sabin have said about the students leaving early listen i gotta be honest about this is this is on me i mean i schedule more more cupcakes than a pastry chef we'll play anybody as long as i don't have to go north of atlanta or west of dallas listen last last week i got uncomfortable trouble we only led by thirty eight at half i like to lead by at least sixty at half let's be honest about this i don't care about this i wanna face auburn off a by then i gotta face georgia i win that get back at clemson what are we talking about i'm just trying to stay healthy and face clemson then again because that's the only team that can beat me basically in the country so mean by the way my alabama students are not going to study it's alabama students are surpa football sales

What Alabama's Nick Saban said at SEC Media Days 2019

"Cell yesterday SEC media days Alabama was speaking and I've been telling you all week if you want to see the kind of energy and hype that this media event brings just because it's football and just because it's the SEC look no further than Wednesday and Hoover when Alabama shows up when Nick saving shows up there is going to be a celebration it is a circus it is a zoo fans come out it is a spectacle a nixie even gives his speech about a lot of things he talks about the team he sometimes get in the it takes questions on the state of college football does he like this does he like that and he makes news music say but he makes news he's got one of the most powerful organizations in college football in Alabama football so when he talks people listen now it's not so much what he said at the podium that I found really troubling yesterday what I found really troubling is what he said in making his rounds to radio row because they got throttled last year you remember they got for Ronald last year against Clemson Watson gave them a mercy and kneeled down they had a chance to go by even more points and instead they did a mercy kneel down Trevor Lawrence diced up Alabama's defense intended so pretty badly so what how did Dixie even talk about did Nick Saban go on these talks and talk about how he you know he didn't prepare as well kudos to dabble Sweeney in the Clemson Tigers for putting a new of full full with Alabama's sites you do any of that stuff no he didn't when he was asked about what exactly happened in Santa Clara when closing beach you forty forty sixteen he was asked coaches or players in terms of who's a jeep well disabled actually started the conversation he said when the season started I think we were great when we won the Ellis you gave in November it just seemed like people's own agenda started to become more important than he was as coaches or players and seven said culture we had a lot of guys wanted to be head coach is a different places it takes a special person to stay focused on what they have to do now when we have a job somewhere else it's a waiting them and they have a responsibility on staffs I'm not being critical of those people it's just very challenging and we have a lot of that on our staff last year all the old I'm not being critical of those people and then go ahead and be very critical of those people that said I get it I'll like this I don't like this look I don't like this look I listen there are certain personality traits when you hang around different people that you can you can feel right there are some people in your life and you probably know these guys you probably can think of a man maybe it's even yourself there are some people that hate being at fault for something they hate it when it's their fault they look to anything and everything to blame why were you late overslept but I over slept because so and so didn't set the alarm or so and so didn't feel gas in my car and that's why I had to stop at the gas station or do you just can't just say I screwed up it's on me and it won't happen again you probably know a few people I know a few people like that I used to be like that I kind of had to change my ways I I because I just hate like looking myself in the mirror I hated being that guy I just rather go the Buck stops here I I screwed up is it possible looks even even in his sixties late sixties he's just that guy it doesn't want to say you know what I'm the head coach of this football team I was supposed to have my team ready and we were ready and credit to Clemson and Trevor Lawrence who we ought we watched on table we never played against and he's really the real deal and he threw us first for a lot of wrinkles and we were ready for the things Clemson could do both often civilian defensively to our team and we were ready and that's my job and that's where the Buck stops it stops here no he was he doesn't do that he goes on to talk about all of the guys who let Mike Locksley is now in Maryland right Josh gad is who's gonna Michigan bluesy Danny this is now the OC at Miami red key he's now George I will list goes on and on of the of the assistant coaches at Alabama that left last year just like the year before and just like the year before that all in just like the year before that Nick Saban's assistant coaches get jobs they get jobs as head coaches or better jobs in the job they have at Alabama that's just the way it goes when you have a national championship team everyone wants to poach your staff and they offer a big money and better opportunities then you're gonna offer and that's just the way it goes how many head coaches in the SEC once had time with that Nick's on Nick Saban's staff I mean look there's there's two immediately that that had issues we try to stay on to help them win a national title and also recruit and get their stabs build up at the places where they were that's Kirby smart Jeremy Pruitt Tennessee only happens all the time again when you're successful program people come calling day what what you have and so that's why they're attractive candidates because it's not even so much that they're the best coach head coaching candidate on the board it's that you've created a process they want a piece of that process so all things being equal if you're a guy that coach did Alabama under Nick Saban and you get interviewed for a job and everything's equal resumes of the same with other candidates the fact that you understand the process is going to put your candidacy over other guys and that's what he has to deal with year in and year out know what he's saying is I wanted my guys to focus and instead I felt they were looking elsewhere and they were looking at the jobs that they had rather than the job they had at the moment that is a damning statement on the character of those guys that are now elsewhere and you better be damn sure you walk that in and you have evidence on that if you're going to do if you're going to talk about those guys in a negative light it one of the highest attended media events in college football you better make sure that you can stand by that with these guys go out and publicly state you know what I resent that my focus was on Alabama football and yes I may have taken time to focus on this other job but only after I did my job focusing on Alabama football I burn the candle at both ends I didn't burn the candle at one end and hope that the other end would just be lit somehow burning the candle at both ends mean I'm burning on the sand and a burning on that it and I wasn't sleeping for a month but I did my job here and I did my job there I mean that is a troubling it's a troubling statements savings making because even at his age he just can't say you know what because I blew that I didn't have my guys ready and this is not to his fault and this is not the office of wind fall in this is not the defense of one's fault this is not the secondaries fault this is not any of these assistance fault it's my fault because I'm the head coach I know this sounds like what my kids do to each other that's I mean how long did you have to think about all knowing he was gonna get asked that it is C. C. mediators I bet he spent the entire off season and the entire summer planning that coup right I mean it's unbelievable I'm sorry Nick I just can't go by this even if it's true this is something you don't need to say even if it's true you don't need to say it but because we were in those meetings and because we'll have to take your word for it you've damaged the reputation of a lot of people that went on to other jobs by saying they didn't do their job with you with the national championship on the line I find a tremendously hard to believe but if this is the way deflecting blame well done because I'm sure many people just eight this

"nick saban" Discussed on The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz

"This is the base of the donlevatar show with stugatz podcasts. So that was a stunner last night. But not. Because Clemson won the money in Vegas told you before that game when if went off at five and a half that the money didn't five and a half is not a giant upset. Now. It's the way they want and the way they want something that Nick Sabin has an experienced since he was the dolphin coach facing JP loss Mun. But that's right. He hasn't lost like that since he was coaching the dolphin. But the stunning part of it is and I know American joy laughing at Nick Sabin last night. Over the last couple of years. They didn't beat Auburn that way. They didn't BBC that way. They didn't b Louisville that way. They didn't Wake Forest that way comes into and beat Georgia Tech that way they didn't beat Syracuse that way and then didn't beat them at all. They didn't beat NC state that way they didn't beat us. You that way? We've not seen that since Nick Sabin has been at Alabama. Michael David Smith had the stat of Nick Saban at Alabama has played with fourteen points or more as the margin. I think it was one hundred six times he was one hundred six until last night. We just haven't seen that. And what I wanted to ask you guys about it is did anyone have it going that way? Did you hear anyone in all of the places that it was being talked about that this game was happening and the weeks leading up to it that people were doing predictions. I'm not talking about did people have Clemson winning, right? Did people? Have that happening? Anybody? Did you hear anybody have that happening? I didn't hear a single person say Clemson with blowout, Alabama. No. I heard plenty of people say Alabama will blow Clemson I heard some people say Clemson would beat Alabama. But no one said that would happen last night. I didn't hear it. No, I didn't either. And there's such an invincible aura around Nick Saban at Alabama that you think that just the magic of Nick Sabin is gonna prevent any of his team from being blown out in that manner. I it was it was amazing to watch and beyond that now the conversation shifts right because yesterday Stu gods, and I were talking and we were talking about how do you stop the Alabama juggernaut from being the John wooden teams the way you do it is by having to freshman do that to them last night in the system doesn't allow them to go be pros? Like the system keeps them there for two years. And so and you saw the. The post game speech. It didn't they didn't have a player just simply telling people to come to Clemson 'cause 'cause it's fun to play. Clemson. I mean, they they got something special there that entire D line could have been drafted high and they decided to come back to chase a championship college football playoff team the previous year. You don't see that? In today's game. They came back, and they blew out Alabama who was the boogeyman. And I guess how you how you stop the John wooden run from Alabama's you have another wouldn't team out there. And that's what Clemson is. Right. That's what Clemson as Mike. It was surprising though to see. It was surprising with all that said the Trevor Lawrence play that good in. That's that was amazing to watch. We did we did talk yesterday about the idea that that kid was a pro that I wasn't sure which quarterback in that game was better because I didn't know about his growth, we now know which one of those quarterbacks is better and has the bigger future because to a turn the ball over. That's not my joke that somebody else. Feeling that I'm stealing that from some what happened? What happened as tell the joke? It's a terrible. Joe's good. I like, oh, no. I don't like my allies. You know, what I'm going outside for two Cody agreed with something. I'm gonna go sit in the penalty box..

"Brought to you by Holiday Inn, express be the radius, and Mark has always great to have you on. I know it's been a tough afternoon hanging at south beach for of. Loves the culture. Thank you. Okay. Having spent so much money down there. That's a mess. Molly concern. I have I have not beat down. But I tell you what is some nice digs around here, man. I'm very familiar with these parts, but but to actually be I was talking to Reese Dave's earlier today. And I said man, I never thought I'd be on on south beach in a suit talking about college football. It's weird. But as good. Well, it just the ark of your career has had in the last few months, Marcus, you've been a lot of places. Well, great to have you on. Let me ask you about the big news today out of New Orleans. And that's that the great quarterback. The Andre Baker is not going to play in the Sugar Bowl. We seen this so many times at other games. But the the Sugar Bowl still the sugarbowl. What do you make of that fall is it's the dynamic we live in now man, this part of the world we live in especially when you're talking about guys like the Baker who has the potential to be top ten picks. And I think the college football playoff in a way has disregarded the rest of the bowl games. That's not not involved. We still hold them to a high regard and hold them to a high standard in this opportunity for them to showcase their skill one more time, but for a lot of these guys they're not playing for national championship. I don't think they are incentivized to just go and say I won the Sugar Bowl or potentially suffering injury in the. Bowl when you weren't in the chase of a national championship came off a beer physical game against Alabama is will very devastating loss. And for where he's projected and for what his future looks like it doesn't surprise me at all. And we'll continue to see more of this happened. The college football playoff in two parts created this. But also think that we've been having all this discussion about expansion if you expand the college football playoff usually good players playing vying for national championships, and we will get a chance to see more of these guys play. I'm not a big proponent of expanding it, but that would be one of the symptoms that would be one of the remedies. But keep it some of these star studded players invested in their last year in college to get them to finish out strong. And Nick Saban said it today in one of his interviews Marcus that if you expand the playoff you're going to marginalize, these games even more in, and I know you you played in the Sugar Bowl and that won the national championship. Scored a touchdown. And it just seems like and I realize we're sounding old school here. But. It's just amazing to think about even the Sugar Bowl losing one of its top players. But but if if the field is expanded like savings said you do you agree. I mean, some of these games which are barely hanging on today. What are they going to look like? When you expand you expand to more bones. I don't I don't I don't agree with Nick when he says that the expansion is not to water it down. No matter what the town. Whether we go from four to six to eight the night, the the the ninth bowl game. Whatever is considered to be the ninth game or the ninth best team. That's not buying for national championship. Yeah. That bowl will get watered down as well. As the one that's considered to be the fifth placed team in the country right now as we're seeing with the dri Baker and Nick both decided to leave early I noticed the different circumstance, but.

"He didn't have the hard time translating coming from Lincoln Riley system into the NFL system that we all kind of expect it. So he looked good from the outset the team clearly even when he was a backup quarterback coming into the season loved him in and loved look forward to the time when he was going to play. It was always a question of when not if and I think that we probably got to that day little quicker than expected because tyrod Taylor's injury in we I believe we four against the jets. They definitely wanted to keep them stapled adventures lungs they could. But once he came in. There was no putting that monkey back in the bottle. They were they were committed to it. And it was pretty easy to see why as Bengals fan. I was extremely jealous when you guys drafted bigger because you're right. The analytics do. Mean something he was the best quarterback on paper talk about me for production. Talk about also jousted. You guys actually got rid? If you Jackson said of higher on your staff, but talk about just thought. Yeah. Yet sled. Maybe maybe talk about not only Jackson's departure in the impact on only Baker. But Nick show, but also the parts of Todd Haley in Freddie, kitchens kind of moving into a role. The he's never really been on. How is his play calling really positively or negatively obviously, positively affected. Nick Saban Baker mayfield's play. So we all kind of going season that Hugh Jackson on at some point. It's been a pretty awful tenure here. And that's that's something when it's coming from Brown's nation who have had to endure. All manner of terrible coaches that Hugh Jackson was the guy that that. We just we had our fill up and we were over. And I know he had some great years as offensive coordinator. I think is a quarterback coach for that. With bengals. So we were surprised anybody that it went is poorly. Did but it did. And we are very very pleased that we got some from it. The big surprise during that whole turnover was that Todd. Haley was not the coaching waiting. If you watched hard knocks. If you heard the rumors in camp like he was the guy that was kinda standing up to Hugh Jackson that was saying this isn't how we practice is. Now a scheme. What are we doing out here? And he was the he was the person who had the recent experience that would say, hey, this is a guy that we need to listen to. I think that in that moment the Browns front office just said I can't pull out in suss out with the problem here is so we're just gonna go toward shirt get rid of all of the factors that are in play the draw. Drop off because it's clearly wrong. We're the transition from Haley to kitchens running the offense has been absolutely as stark as you can possibly imagine. And a lot of that is that you're seeing a baseline of coaching competency at at of Freddie kitchens for the first two weeks that nobody really expected to see there's a rocket science. There's no crazy imaginative innovative playcalling. He's just utilizing the play the players that he hasn't house and the same playbook and just running things that make a little bit more sense. He's not trying to force the ball. You know, twelve fifteen times a game said Jarvis Landry. He's he's running the ball with authority at a sets of the Browns are capable of running from and just playing to the team strength has. So so the transition hasn't been as comfortable as most brands expected. It definitely hasn't been uncomfortable. As I expected because the team really rallied to the cause. And now they are running offense a sets that played the strengths of the personnel rather than all kinds of, you know, downfield air Korea Long developing. Nonsense that we running running the last two and a half years. Speaking of the coaching. Issues coaching future. All of that. They made the move now move away from Jackson Todd Haley's out of the building. Like you said. What do you what do you think? Or what is the the fan preference in terms of the direction the Browns should in will go next year with their next head coach is gonna be veteran guy that sets been out there for a while is again to be maybe a hot assistant coach name that's out there..

All the College Football Playoff chaos that can still happen in the season's final three weeks

"Syracuse. Or you know, maybe the Texas name game. It's not happening. So they're gonna they're gonna get a spot. I don't think Notre Dame at this point is tripping up. Maybe Syracuse gives them. A push. But the game is in south bend and even tonight without even book still not concerned that Notre Dame's gonna lose win Bush will be fine. So then what we're saying is there is one spot available in the playoff for this group to battle Michigan Ohio state the winner there, I think is in the driver's seat. Most likely to get the final spot, and yes, even Ohio State. As sloppy as they've looked at times didn't play great against Nebraska got run out of the building gets Purdue if they win the rest of their games and beat Michigan. I think they're going to be the team. But so those two Georgia's still very much alive, but their their job is to beat Alabama in the SEC title game. I don't think that's happening. So then you can look if you want to Oklahoma and maybe to Washington state as possibilities. But I just again, I think Michigan Ohio state's going to get that final spot for Oklahoma. They've got games left with Oklahoma state against Kansas and the one game that can really give them a boost certainly is against West Virginia. So it's not out of the question. I think Washington state's the longest of long shots of the one loss teams. But how crazy is it that, you know, usually, you could say maybe there's eight teams still left right now. Maybe there's only one spot that you feel great about in the playoff now. Right now. You feel good about three of the four. I don't love Notre Dame as a team. In fact, if Notre Dame gets in which I think they will let's say they're the four seed I gala bam beat them by three touchdowns. But they'll have the record the undefeated season. They'll have the resume to get in. Clemson. I think will be the best second best team behind behind Alabama. Michigan's really intriguing I think Michigan if they beat Ohio State becomes really intriguing because of their defense, and because of shape Patterson, giving them a shot to at least challenge and ala Bama, let's hear some of the coaches involved. Here's Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney talked about his team starting to play championship football. This is what championship football is all about you turn on the tape, and you go that's why they are where they are. Really good team. Turn on our taping. Us you go. Well, that's why we're where we are. This is what it's all about. And we get an opportunity to get after see if we can find a way to win. It said Clemson really hasn't been challenged a ton this year. The Texas ain't AM game out. But they just haven't played a schedule that's going to get you ready for what Dabbagh just talked about championship football. So maybe today against kind of given that indication of what it will look like here's Nick Saban head coach of Alabama talked about his team trying to stay focused on next the next opponent. I think moving forward are the battle becomes very internal in terms of putting the last game behind you and looking forward to the challenges in the future. So you can't really be complacent or satisfied. We got to put that behind us and get ready for the next team. And of course, when you have already clinched your side of a division. You're looking forward to a championship game. Kirby's smarts teams got work to do before they see Alabama. There's not any body on our team is going to be worried about anything. But Auburn because that's the next task at hand. I mean, that's that's what we have to be focused on our goal is to

"I just want to run for governor. What happened? Well, I did that for a couple months Paul but mad. The percent chance you go to jail. If you hit that did say that by the way. And other unique to go to jail. You're too honest. Yeah. Yeah. I don't need to do that. Now, my wife a little bad. But how you doing? I n doing great urgent and the other night. I was in Alabama. And it was it was it was talking to a politician who who have had who had had a conversation with you. But I think you're doing better not getting involved in that murky world of politics. Yeah. Man. Man That that is is as as you you think you you think? think? SEC hit coaching. This is politics. And there's a lot of politics in it but land that is I looked at it for about three months after about three months. I said, you know, what if I'm on own get back in the water, and we'll get back into coaching. And so so the name. Do you think you would have been good? Well, you know, I think there needs to be people from other areas not just lawyers politicians that you know to get in it for a living. You know, again, that's reading I looked at it and thought it might be something, you know, I could help with and and at the end of the day when they I was put in. I said, you know, I think she'll do the job. They attacked me to pull on out. Well, let's talk about the college football season. And you certainly have battled Nick Saban on the field and off in. You've also lived in that state and had been able to observe what he's doing right now. Just try to put into context what you've seen through the first nine or ten weeks of this. That's the first ten weeks of this college football season. How good is Alabama? Well, if taken the front outer Paul. Absolutely take. It's it's fun to watch. Because you you, you know, they're going to win. You don't know behind much out. Saturday would be his biggest test simply for the fact that the LSU had some momentum. And you know, that they beat the heck out of out of Georgia and they had with coming to their place. And everybody's saying I'm ahead to played anybody as good as LSU and the one question Mark are had was defense. LSU's not great on offense. You know, they're struggling they don't have the athletes that they'll have an years they continue to earth. But then I was domination. They're front four remind me of our mind thing here's ago when I worked for me, we never had the fluids. We never had the rush with four guys. There's nobody could flocks and mixed. Got it the same way there. Now, they they're just rolling them defense. And you don't have to talk about the offense it they he's changes philosophy with his quarterback. And then. You know, they're going to school in the thirties. At least most of the time. I most anybody they've placed so it's really become unfair and taken all the fun of November in the championship game. And even I just I don't see anybody unless it's gonna be Clinton that might have a chance to play with four weeks ago. And in having answer circle the wagons. But man, they're good. As was seen as they've got running backs. They've got off into blind is getting better and better, and they pretty much stayed healthy. So you know, you know, they uneasily skipping in. You know, I'm I love to watch college football people, and I don't get to how one one team, but this proved now they're they're they're unbelievable. And I mean, this has been going for for some time now and let me try to put you in Nick Sabin shoes for a moment. I I'm running out of words to describe him as you have. But at this point what what else does he have to accomplish coach? I mean, let's say wins another championship here. Do you think? He just keeps keeps racking them up, or or do you think something else interest in whether I mean, they're all kinds of reports out there that that somebody will make another run at him from the NFL by giving him a piece of a franchise. I mean, these are all rumors, and nobody really knows whether he would do that or not you take to leave to behind..

"Doing you? Right. That is the biggest game of the year LSU coming out number three in the right game in one. And that's all great. But if they don't win Saturday. It means nothing we know that as crimson tide has won the last seven over LSU. So this week is a big game. If they lose to Alabama. There's no way a to lock LSU tiger team in the college playoff. So it's going to be a big game this Saturday, and they need to pull this off. Rouge the fans they are waiting for this this game all season. Out of the lights and death valley and one of the toughest places to play. Does that lets you have enough offense to keep up? That's my question. That that's a big question. Joe borough. The last two outings has been so if you wanna say, but the biggest thing that I think that they can't do is they need to pound the ball. They're running the ball at sixty one percent and thirty one percent passing. And this year's Alabama's defense isn't as style as they usually are upfront. So it's not the people Nick Sabin defense that you're used to seeing. But I think they compound that ball with with Lear if they can just pounded away ship it away. It's going to be a physical matchup defensively. But if they can control the off line in those trenches in those three four, you know, you know, seven yard run here. And there that might open up from passing yards for Joe boroughs that, you know, just think Jefferson down a streak or oppose corner. Outer front. One. Ball will be key on offense versus the tide every team in the country of one loss or LSU fans on Saturday because that if LSU wins that throws everything into chaos, and that opens it up for a whole bunch of teams. Yeah. That that really does that puts Georgia out of it because I still see Alabama. Here with one loss, but that's shake up the whole college playoff. It depends on what Notre Dame will do. Clemson. I think Clinton will probably finish out the season undefeated as well. So it'll it'll shake up things but LSU would elite punch they're kicking in the college playoff. That's that's thought we care about. I love coach when he was out here coaching USC here in Los Angeles. He was the defensive line coach Pete Carroll years and mad. I used to interview him once a week. I understood about half of what he said would that Cajun accent? So I just I he could have been saying Dave Smith is a jackass now would have been nodding my head saying, yes, sir. I agree with you. I love coach. Oh, he's my favorite person in college football. Yeah. He's he's one of the great ones when I got down the bed ruse, I'm from Chicago. So it was a total coaches shocking that an accident is very hard. Transcribing interviews is not fun at times in the news. But he's a great guy. Great motivator. He's always out in the community. He does radio show told me your, Vince. So that's what I like about him. He's a player coach and coach among the people you can walk up to him and just say, hi and you'll have a conversation with yourself. He wanted to go with in college football. He told me once I don't have an accent. You do that's what he said to me. Yeah. That sounds like, oh, he's he's he's he has some great joke. He will snap back at you. What would what some great joke? So be prepared to come with me when you felt down. But when they lost the Troy last year, there weren't even run them out of town. They were gonna fire him. Now. Look at him top three in the country and a chance for a national championship. Yeah. It's been a total one eighty was on a hot seat. Even in the beginning of the year. Don't want expecting difficult seventy one and everybody was saying, hey, if he doesn't do it this year, then you know, we need to move on. But again, he believes in those fifteen Bettine believed that themselves, and you know, as far as the SEC, we know it's Alabama Georgia. Everyone was county out and for them to have this excess in bringing back the prominence of the Tigers. Is it's been a great atmosphere van Roos right now you look at the quarterback in Alabama. You know, it's almost unfair. Nick saban's usually has a game manager at Alabama. Now, he's got a superstar quarterback. They're scoring fifty and sixty points a game to go along with all those athletes and the accuracy that the kid is incredible he special, but but Aaron he hasn't faced adversity yet. So let's see if he gets behind a little bit or if things aren't going well against LSU on Saturday. That's that's the key. He hasn't even played fourth quarter yet. That was. Is that he hasn't played a fourth quarter. So if they can get some pressure on we know they're missing Devon white Devon white. But the first half of the biggest thing is forcing pressure fourth mistake. He has to make a turnover you gotta get moving them out of pocket. Maybe get him comfortable LSU LSU. To figure out a way to out. So. Defense needs to find a way that that's what it comes down to find a way crying it out. It's going to be a bad on that

"Holiday Inn express. Compete ready isn't. He's been the radius the taking on a new position Ross. Thanks so much for the time. I mean, you're already established as is one of the premier linemen in the league, and then you make this move. I know it was a Scott months ago, but how did you feel when you were asked and we, I think we can see it's going pretty well. Good afternoon. Good afternoon how you guys doing. Yeah, I was excited. You know, it was something me coach save and sat down and talked about, and you know, I kind of almost asked him if I could play center and just kind of take on that new role in the new leadership position. And I figured that you know, it would help just my career further that being a new position. So I was excited about it. So you're you're in contact with the quarterbacks, which will we'll come back to you in a minute. That's a big topic of conversation, but but overall, this team three games in it looks on beatable. I know that sounds like rat poisoning to to player on the Obama crimson tide, but how how I was his team holding up so far with all the attention with all the the, the praise and platitudes. And still having to deal with Nick Saban every day. You know, it's been good. I think the coaching staffs that are really well. I really good job just trying to keep his grounded. They've done that, you know, year in and year out with the success that we've had. And you know, just looking forward, we always have stuff to improve on just going back on the film and it's like, so we're just, you know, he's looking forward to getting better Russia. It's easy for for commentators and fans to to get caught up in in Alabama. But when you're sick, a big part of that programme, you understand it. You deal with getting better every week. He make corrections. You don't worry about what the the outside noise is, but I'm sure at times it does seep in a little bit. How do you keep it in check? And I think it's more for the younger guys. I think the older guys on the team, the leadership guys have to really kind of understand the program that we're at that that that's going to kind of come with it and just kind of keep the younger guys grounded and especially hundred guys on this team that are having success. You know at a at a early on stage. In their career. Just keep those guys grounded and know that we still have work to do and you know each week in and week out, you know, he's team's going to bring it and try to, you know, bring their best game for. So we just got it. You know, keep kind of are heading the game and go at it. Let's take us inside that locker room, especially on the offensive side because you know, everyone knows since the national championship game, the national narrative was about the quarterback situation and you're such a critical an integral part of that every day. How how has that gone? Because from a distance, it looks like in spite of the competition, everyone is cheering for everyone else, right? Yeah. And I think that's kind of how it goes. You know, I mean, there hasn't really been any, you know, divide in the locker room or something like that. So I mean in during practice for us, it's like we go up tempo. So I don't really even notice who's you know behind me, I'm snapping the ball to, so it's like they'll make a play and I'll have to look back and check. You know what number that was if it was thirteen or two, so it's, you know, doesn't really have a huge impact on us. I think it's been. Beneficial for our team and for our offense. And you know, we've seen the benefit of that so far. Of course, the center deals with quarterback no matter who it is. Is there any difference going from Twitter Jalen or Jalen to to? No, not really. I think that they, you know, both bring their own kind of mix to the table and so you know, jailings more the calm cool and collected type of guy to more the, you know, fiery, get him going. So that's really the only difference. You know, both obviously very talented players and capable of running this offense just as smoothly as you know the other..

"Tweets on opposite ends of the Nick Saban situation from job morning guys the thing that bothers me about Nick Sabin of the way handle the situation is there. Really, isn't any other, questions to ask him viewers. Don't, care what he feels about special teams or whatever and then? Brian says I agree saving should have answered the question differently but he has said multiple times he wasn't going. To talk about the quarterback and people keep asking the same. Question is, like the story about his reaction is more, important than the story itself well in? This situation it's not the. Same question No this was Maria asking? For an assessment of both. Quarterback right coming off, of the first game where we finally got an answer of who is going to go out. There I who is. Going to get the lion share the snap I mean that's the biggest part of the question was what. Did you see from the quarterbacks it wasn't, who's gonna start are you, closer to making that dislike it wasn't the. Cliche question that's why I, said and I firmly, believe because coaches a lot of times don't care. About The question they care about their agenda and what they're trying. To get across and what he wanted to try and get across in my opinion I agree with Marcus and I set it on Twitter. The other day he wanted to get across to talk. About Jalen to the, team about what he feels about y'all member all, the went on there when Jalen. All the sudden spoke up and said nobody said anything to him and he felt disrespected you know in the off season you know maybe this is savings way. Sane, where team were, staying together respect Jalen what. He's, doing because let's be honest to a better quarterback to has? A better quarterback of the two is the better quarterback and Nick Sabin is doing this out of respect for. Jalen and for the team he just did he take a. Step too, far took a step too far but the, heat this was his agenda he was? Going to do to Maria. Or to the press after the game? In the press conference in. My opinion I just. Enjoyed watching the look in his eyes as he slowly yoked out there Lost it was a hawk. Moment ripping but, he return like red not green right because it's roll tide food back at ten.

"Maybe people confusing like getting it wrong to I am and then you of you close it with Nick Saban, reflecting in his place in the world and this legacy, and you. How come those the latter. Those thoughts seem to come to him on a dock surrounded by kids and never mind, podium, meaning that like, don't you think that maybe blending a little bit more into the podium would would go a long way to kind of eliminate this confusion. I think it's hard for him to kind of downshift into like relaxed vacation, Nick mode. They when I was when I did get to go down and talk to him, the joke around the office was, is he is he and vacation Nick mode, or is he in working mode? And they were like, kinda like just come back from vacation the day before, like he's kinda in between like he's not quite occasion coach right now. So I think it's that he did explain that when he's on the lake. It's like one of the few places in the whole world. Maybe the only place where he can kind of relax and he doesn't mean doesn't thinking about football, but it is. He is able to sort of step back and like think about the bigger picture life and read a book and watch a TV show. I explained early on just in saying who I was that I was from Montana, grew up there and immediately was like, oh, have you seen the the series Yellowstone, Kevin, Costner going on mythical? You have watched a piece of it like, yeah, Terry or just that's what we were doing. Kinda watching on Netflix late at night. And I think like if you if you, if you went to Nick savings, press conference every single day and you hung around him, you'd probably see a little bit more like humanity that you that's like in this piece. But if you're not someone who's like Alabama and beat writer, if you're just like seeing him after you know games or seeing him on sidelines, you have a very kind of, I think, narrow picture of who saving is, and you know, it's kind of probably colored by his most intense moments. And so if you're able to kind of step back and sort of consider the whole of Nick Sabin, which I think maybe hopefully this story, it's it's going against type a little bit. It's trying to show you that he does have you know a human side. It's just that he isn't really gonna show that in like the twenty second clip you see on sportscenter after the national championship game, right? It's like how they way you can like they've created the confusion. Like when you see a photo of Bill check hanging with. Girlfriend wearing a Halloween costume or like rocking out to Bon Jovi like it seems jarring because he's cree- because in the opportunities had interact. He's created the difference, right? Yeah. I mean, you know, I think that what I like about saving is in some ways he's not like a moralist. He doesn't sort of acting like he's, you know, the person who's out here, you know, better than anyone else shaping molding, young men like there's some of that, but a lot of it is just like, I'm here to win football games. And I'm here because I wanna give you an option graduate and what you do with that is up to you. And so I think that's kind of out of all a lot of times where football coaches maybe get themselves into trouble where they act as though they are sort of these great moulders of young men and their above. It all their those sort of moral beacon of the universe or university anyway, and and then when something goes sideways for them, you see, maybe they aren't quite living up to that claim that's went out. Out of people feel like, well, you're a hypocrite and I think at least say he sort of more or less like, you know what? What you see is kind of what you got. I'm hard and I'm tough, but I'm fair. Oh, absolutely hill right down like yeah, a psalm, psalm twenty three or something like, here's a little tip for you. Go on with your day. I'll pray for you. That's a big that's such a power move by the way to say, I, I don't know if you saw Robert Clem coz speech. How are piece where he was like? I tried to ask Ray about the Atlanta incident and race it out. I prayed for you. You are number one in my prayers last night to just walk. I'm so it'd be like, yo-you number one in my prayers. What even say that there's no defense to that? No, it's the classic. Bless your heart. That's what you say, the south man just plus your. Suck my dick in the north is your heart. Yeah, we, I think that's our new thing. We're going to start praying for pedia plus your Kevin Durant. I'm pray for you tonight. Okay. Number one of my prayers. Very, very biggie. Yes. All right. Let's do our who's back Hank is on his sixteenth vacation of the year. So he is we have Bubba in instead Bubba. You wanna start. Sure. My who's back the week is your boy bake cat Steven Seagal. Ooh, wee formerly disavowed, but it just came out. He's a big Putin guy, and he has been appointed as a u. s. envoy which I had to go with that was, but it says he is going to facilitate relationships between Russia and the US in the humanitarian field, including cooperation in culture, arts public in youth exchanges, that child trafficking writer. Yeah, it's unpaid too. Yeah. I'm sure it is. I'm sure I'm sure it's paid entirely and bitcoin to Jen. I'm excited about that. The more Stephen go, we can get in the public eye, the better. I think I, I, I don't know exactly what his job responsibilities are going to be, but it sounds like he's just going to be flying back and forth between Russia and Washington DC. And honestly, that's probably all we can hope for from Stephen skull. That's a great job for well. And Steven Seagal is one of those guys who's been in action figure in movies for so long that I actually kind of believe like he can be a fixer like he'll come in and just start killing people and that if the problem is there are people that need to be killed, then he will degrade at this job. I don't know if that's exactly what it entails. But I do actually think my brain has kind of morphed where it's like Steven Seagal yet he could get us out of a jam even though it sounds like he's working for Russia, not us. Well, so you said that he'd be a great person to bring if the job required killing. I think any job that Steven Seagal accepts his only solution is killing. Yes, he'll make it work. He's like, he's got a hammer and everything's a nail. You know what I'm saying? Right, right. Like, hey, guys, we should send out a couple of emails. Let's try to circle back with everyone and get on the same page with this piece. We're working on to help the youth of America. No, actually, let's just kill everyone. Okay. Done perfect meeting over Liam was that the only one got just one. Okay. Nice. PF t want you go. That was a good one. My whose back is Nick Sabin and more specifically, Nick saban's lake. It's Nick Sabin lake season. There's like a week every year where Nick Sabin just takes journalists on his boat on his lake to show that he likes to have fun every now and again is a little Ponto. He's like, you know, ever gonna like to just take the boat out and cruise around. And we certainly like to have our share a fun here on the lake, and then everyone's like, see, Nick savings kind of fun. Dude. He's not just the taskmaster you think he is..

"I, you know, I for those who don't know the backstory Marcus, like brothers, we, we've been friends for couple of years. We we never met until we came to work here at the same time, and we had Damien Harrison. Ultimately, Nick Saban, and I have no doubt Marcus was a good basketball player. I none. I mean, I know that his wife by the way, Marcus is wife played in the WNBA. He's not even the best basketball player in his house. Impressive. But he was a good player, but there's a difference between being a good player in having Jim boeheim and coach k. give you scholarship. What parenthetically, what coach k. has coming in this year as far as recruiting the federal law against it that just insane. I can assure you, Andrew Marcus would not get an offer this year from coach k. now that's there. It's arguably it's not arguably it is the best recruiting class ever isn't you got three of the top five players? Yeah, I think historically, it's the best basketball recruiting ever got the top three. Forget the top five. And this should be federal law together that much talent in which amazing is Mike, you ski. I saw him a couple of months ago. He was we, we see each other a couple times mainly once every year when he comes here for the ACC media, they have a great conversation usually asked me about football, and he asked me about saving this year. And I mean. He's seventy one years old. That's that's two guys who are pretty good at what they tell you what I'm gonna do next time. I see him. You know, it's the first question is going to be, don't you. Jew or did you not ever offer Marcus spears a scholarship, be sure to get back with us on that. He's gonna look at me like, I don't even know. I don't even know you're talking about. I'm gonna say, yeah, I know the guy that was better than Christian Leitner. That's what I'm talking about. Coach. My quick question, and then I'll hang up and listen for your answer is it seems like teams division one teams now are wanting to front load their schedules with it. Right, right off the bat launch with with competitive games that get people's interest, no longer you schedule a d. two team. What's going into that thinking that's change scheduling now. Well, thanks for the call. By the way, it depends coaches will argue that if you have a big game at the front of the season it, it keeps your team motivated all during winter workouts. It keeps them motivated during the spring versus just playing coastal Carolina or Mercer or the citadel, or northwestern state or anybody else. I, I think it just depends what you're seeing. Now you're seeing a lot of big aims the first weekend or the second weekend, and some of that is television induced. We're up against a break, plenty of guest to come, including Jim, Don more of your phone calls as well at eight, five, five to four to seven to eight five. "The alabama starting quarterback position that seems to be all anybody wants to talk about it started a couple of weeks ago when she were tongue of a hurt his throwing hand and i guess it was just like one of those things he was in practice and he was throwing passed and he hit on the helmet and then he was out for the rest of the spring and now there's been this big debate on jalen hurts to talk about oh who's going to be the starting quarterback for people that don't know the story jalen hurts has been a starting quarterback the last two years at alabama and then to replace him in the national title game at half time and got the offense jumpstarted they ended up putting the national title in beating georgia hence the master quarterback controversy right now typically you wouldn't have that with the due to your starting quarterback got the team at the national title two years in a row by this is allah bama it's a freak show and it's a freak show for a good reason because they're just loaded and sick it every single position i call them the the the other nfl team right because to me they operate like nfl franchise but it's really been about the quarterback spot who's gonna be their quarterback jalen hurts or two and whoever wins the job is the other guy gonna leave and if he dies lead he's going to be eligible right away to it wouldn't be able to jalen might be able to to get his coursework finished on time but that's that's the big thing right now is just gonna play quarterback at alabama well you know what show pony has been a pleasure let's do this again because i've been a fan of your show for a while so i love to be able to have you back on talking some socks baseball endeavors some college football let's do it man i'm a fan of yours too so i was really excited without thank you so much man thanks for coming on the show thank you it is chris childers he's a show pony he's part of sirius xm channel eighty four that's espn you where they talk college sports and he's part of full ride that show with new.
