"Travis buck Sexton show This is a big story going on right now for a lot of you out there You're having to make decisions about what to do as it pertains the COVID vaccine mandate we discussed How exactly this might be shaking out for the Biden administration going forward whether they're actually going to put into place the osha regulations or not they announced that they were going to have a federal vaccine mandate on September 9th we are now sitting here near the end of October and those regulations have still not been released but already there are massive impacts occurring all over the country as different companies and states and localities put their own vaccine mandates into place Now positive Southwest Airlines after what appears to have been a multifaceted issue surrounding the cancellation of all their flights part of that based on calls to us from southwest pilots directly related to the vaccine mandate in that older pilots were taking days off potentially deciding to retire rather than comply with the vaccine mandate while Southwest has now come out and join delta and said they may not be as aggressive in trying to enforce that vaccine mandate as they had been planning In fact they are not going to require at Southwest Airlines People who have been unvaccinated to go on unpaid of leave All right so that's a story worth following But world of sports this is a really interesting story We talk a lot about the courage of your convictions and being willing to stand up for what you believe in despite what the cost might be The last week we were discussing this in the context of Kyrie Irving and NBA basketball player for the Brooklyn Nets who has decided that he is going to refuse New York City's COVID vaccine mandate and will therefore be an eligible to play home games for the nets while as if that were not interesting enough all the way across the country in Washington Washington states football coach has decided that he will not comply with a mandate demanding that he get vaccinated and has quit his job as the head coach of the Washington state cougars they play in the PAC 12 This is a really intriguing story Nick rolovich is the name of the coach four of his assistant coaches also refused to get the COVID vaccine and are now unemployed as well The athletic director pat June talked about dismissing his head football coach Play cut 6 over his refusal to get the COVID vaccine It is disheartening to be here today Our football team is hurting Our WC community is fractured Today we'll have a lasting impact on the young men on our team and the remaining.

"Melodramatic in that Washington should have been ahead of that game for a long long time They just didn't play up for that game And so to finish that game they get to win but they barely got away with wins Yeah And the coach at Arizona in his first season down there struggling trying to get things together the quote after the game was we continue to get into fistfights with our hands tied behind our backs Yeah you're not going to win many games doing that It's been a tough go down there in Tucson And that's the thing that's one of the things we were talking about Jimmy Lake and Chris Peterson the difference Those great coaches who tend to be great long-term can get their teams up for games that aren't great emotional games right Even when you're playing a lesser opponent you don't play down to their competition level You play up at the level that you're used to playing at right That's the decider for excellence in Washington did not play up their they played down their competition They didn't play up to their potential Yeah that was the old John Robinson philosophy too of course a coach at USC with the rams as well But he said you got to win the games you're supposed to win Have to okay You have to win those games And then you should win the games and maybe toss ups And then the big games kind of take care of themselves because emotion brings you up Everybody gets there for the game right Everybody's playing at their peak They're all dialed in But the toss up games you just got to get a break here you got to make an explosive play there You've got to get a penalty on the opposing team somewhere 5 to 8 players We talk about all the time But the games the tough ones Yeah Are the games that you should win because emotionally sometimes especially if you're a really good team it's hard to get up for those games Speaking of emotions you wonder what the emotions will be for Washington state today hosting BYU 9 count from scheme one of 5 pack 12 games that BYU is going to play this year They're already three O but they've lost two other games Out of the pack 12 conference But Nick rolovich no longer the head coach of Washington state I don't know how you want to determine his departure whether he was fired or however you want to determine that But Jake dickers dicker becomes the head coach they're stepping in for assistant coaches gone as well for Washington and say what's the emotional accuracy going to be like at Washington state today It has to be a train wreck I mean and on top of that so the emotions are tough right You just lose the coach you lose the guys that recruited.

"I'm still not sure how we did it. We survived yesterday. It was not easy, and most of it was my fault, so I'm going to take a Mulligan and start over like this is the beginning of a new week. Great to have you with us. A number of really cool guests later on, more of your phone calls. Let's start in Gainesville. Why not? Gators find hope and possibly a new QB in Anthony Richardson. And we'll talk to we'll talk to buddy Martin about that in just a minute. So the numbers don't lie, do they? They don't really lie. The QBR is fantastic. The only problem is Richardson was involved in a really ugly loss, but that's not going to stop him. We'll find out the latest, even though the Gators have a week off before the dogs head their way. The famous third Saturday in October, something tells me we just passed a third Saturday in October. But don't let that affect you and we talk about one of the most storied rivalries in college football. I wrote that as a student reporter. I wrote it as an adult. I'm not writing it anymore because I'm not sure this rivalry has lived up to expectations. If you went on a trip in 2007 and just returned, you haven't missed anything as a Tennessee fan against Alabama. It has been bloody. And I mean, a disaster. Just look at these numbers. 38 to 12 the average score 14 straight wins. The yardage time leading 680 minutes to 17 minutes. That's not good, by the way. What are you trying to say? Josh hypo is the 6 different Tennessee coach to face Nick Saban at Alabama. 6 different Tennessee coach. Meanwhile, down in the loveliest village on the planes, the offense seems to be working right now. I think a lot of people are buying in to Brian and for good reason. At this moment, and I say at this moment, things are going very, very well. Wins in Baton Rouge. When in Fayetteville, caution, though, some big games ahead. And dabo Sweeney always count on him for a corn ball, one liner that he probably wrote this morning eating his frosted flakes. Asked about the LSU job, his answer Clemson is the only Death Valley I'm concerned about. I would be concerned about dabble after watching your game the other night. Can you go out and buy an offense at the dollar store because they'll be happy to sell you one, which is about what your offense is worth? How about Mike or esco? We talked to him a couple weeks ago. He was didn't like everybody poaching leagues. He's going out to reshape his league. Have you seen some of the names being mentioned? Here's Pete theme. The American is talking to Charlotte north Texas, UTS rice and UAB. Lastly, Washington state where Mike leach once roamed the sidelines, Nick rolovich and four assistants fired, why? They would not get vaccinated. Why would they get fired over that? Because there are several coaches at a theater near you who have not been vaccinated. We know that. The reason it's a state law in Washington. Yeah. Your reaction is welcome at 8 5 5 two four two 7 two 8 5. Who's on the show today? Buddy Martin, I mentioned him. Johnny Harris knew coach at auburn? Matt, sting always a great segment. On our Tuesday afternoon, a couple other basketball coaches, Bruce pearl and Nate Oates. As we get ready for the college basketball season, did you know the NBA starts tonight? How many leagues how many different sports are being played right now? Yet the NBA the NHL got Major League Baseball this afternoon and this evening. Got the NFL, the WNBA just wrapped up. Did I leave anything out? Oh, I love. Major League Soccer. I'm watching every I do not do anything but watch sports. I wake up and I go to bed, glued to my app. Let's get to the phone today 5 5 two four two 7 two 8 5 and Richard is up next in Madison, Mississippi. How are you, Richard? I'm doing fine. Thank you. Just a couple of quick comments. First, I really enjoy you, so I drive up and down the road. I'm driving a big truck and just I like to break from all the stuff that we have to listen to daily. Thank you. On your program. So thank you. Just a quick comment about the coach O deal. There's one, you know, everybody was calling in. Seem like attacking you to another journalist yesterday and I don't agree with that. What concerns me is that we've seen that the comment that bothered me is that they say if kojo had a winning record, none of this stuff would matter. And that is just that is a very concerning statement. Would you want to coach now that this stuff is has come to light with coaches? Well, you want a guy like that recruiting your sign to play football for you? I think it's a good thing that it came to light. And I think it's unfortunate that we think of him as somebody better than he is, just because, you know, I don't think I did a very good job, Richard trying to explain the intent of what you're talking about there. I know some people and maybe rightfully so feel like we were picking on coach. Oh, but what I should have said yesterday is that some of the salacious stuff out there that you're referring to that we were referring to, it's not just innuendo and rumor. These are things that I believe very strongly based on the people with whom I have spoken. We're presented to coach O and his attorneys in addition to their dissatisfaction with his winning record, they added, these are issues that we have with you. And that is why I think he quickly quickly agreed to the $16.9 million buyout. So they would not go forward with any type of action or anything else. Now, some of the stuff leak out, yes. Will the school ever admit to it? Probably not. I found the schools wrapping their when Scott Woodward in coach show talked about how close her friends they were and how much they respected. I found that to be a dog and pony show. But that's part of life. And we all do that. We all act like we like people that we really don't, just to get along in the workplace. I wasn't talking about you, by the way. Thank you. Randy, please. One time, you know what I was talking about. Okay. John is in Kentucky, hello, John. Hey, John. Hey, Paul, how are you doing? I'm a longtime listener, calling in a couple of times called in last week and some things I've been watching with this are on situation and some things that probably need to be discussed and thought about. It's odd for college like LSU that's got stored history that they do. They try to fire a coach midseason and they say well, he's going to finish the season out..

"Of the final financial markets, most of the time that doesn't lead to great things. Some fallout from the COVID vaccine mandates, Washington state university has fired head football coach Nick rolovich and four of his assistants after they refused to comply with a state COVID vaccine mandate. Was the highest paid state employee with an annual salary of more than $3 million. He had said he would not get vaccinated, but had declined for weeks when repeatedly asked to explain why. The university said he would be fired for cause because he's unable to meet the requirements outlined in his contract. In the meantime, ESPN reporter Allison Williams is leaving the network after refusing to comply with parent company, Disney's vaccine requirement. She said she decided not to get a COVID vaccine while she and her husband were trying to have a second child. She also said she was not ethically and morally aligned with the vaccine mandate. Because you are starting to see cases or instances where people would rather leave their job than get the vaccines that have been required at this point. We had yesterday the conversation with New Hampshire's governor, mister sununu, where he talked about look, if you're truly a Republican, if a public company or a private company chooses to do this, that is their choice. And I guess some of the questions come back to what the governments requiring and what not. I mean, I've seen few of them say, well, no. We're trying to work on employment issues. And firing people doesn't help the employment situation. I was surprised that someone who was so when I asked in matter of fact, he goes, yeah, fire. They're done. I'm trying to figure out if a company decides to mandate it. And then if you don't get one, you get fired. Did you say that that's a company's choice or that it is? That is the company's choice whether your Friends flower shop or a major hospital association, businesses have always had that. If a business wants to say, you have to get vaccinated to work in my business, that's their choice. It always has been. Those rules have not changed and should not change. You read about a lot of government groups of government employees that are pushing back. Policeman, whatever it is, I keep reading a difference usually in the New York Post. Something like that. There's some carve outs that the Biden administration gave to certain government entities, right? Which was weird. Yeah. And union. There's mothers. It's like how do you read it? I think part of that is negotiations with the union where they say, okay, we have to do it. But it does it doesn't sit well when you were telling other people they have to require it and allowing exemptions in your own ranks. But look, if a company chooses to do this, and I can understand why some companies would. They want to make sure that they're protecting their employees. They want to make sure they're protecting customers. And by the way, there are some employees who want everyone around them to be vaccinated. So it's not just the anti vaxxers who are there. I guess people that have had COVID that at this point say, look, I've had it. I think I got better immunity than you get from the vaccine. I could understand why they might. That wasn't, for example, the ESPN reporters view. I'm not saying that. What if someone did say that? Let's say that you had had it and really had a robust immune response. I think the science says right now that the vaccine will it won't hurt you. I think we've seen we've now seen millions upon millions upon millions of people undertake it and get it. Billions of people have gotten it at this point. And I don't think we're I don't understand the conversation about why not to take it. And take COVID, you could understand. But also, this is my personal view. This idea of transmission. Yes, people say, well, the vaccine doesn't prevent transmission. The vaccine prevents lots of transmission. It doesn't just prevent all transmission. And so if you're trying to reduce the risk of the people around you, potentially giving it to you or to others, you want them to be vaccinated. That was the most we talked about it again and again. That was most disappointing thing that gottlieb came on and said is that you're still shedding virus, even when you're not sick and you're asymptomatic. I was like, it's like, well, that was a turning point, I think. Because up to that point. I think we felt like, okay, we got the vaccines. It's okay. You can go out there. And that was a little bit of a showstopper. But I think it's true. It's usually, I think it'd be much less likely, but it's much, much much less likely. The chance that you can spread it the chance you will get infected and then spread it is significantly lower than if you don't have the vaccine. And by the way, by the way, we're gonna have a conversation very soon in this country, which we haven't even introduced about boosters, which is to say that I think we're going to get to a point where employers are going to say, not only did you have to get the vaccine in the first time, you're going to have to get boosted, otherwise you're not going to work. By the administration, I think it's going to be a very interesting very quick Biden administration. You saw totally jump the gun on that. Couldn't even get its federal agencies. To back them on it. So they're looking at it and they're going to wait till they have stuff before they make it from right now. Part of that was a political discussion. It was what do we want these vaccines to do? Do you want to make sure people don't wind up in the hospital? Or do you want to make sure that they're not transmissible? Are other people? It's not just the science. It's what do we want of these things? And is it fair to take them first? And I think that needs to be brought up to. But once they are approved, then it's going to be and then businesses are going to make these decisions about the boosters on this probably on the same basis of let's reduce the risk to our employees. You'd have to, you know, if the science says you got zero antibodies left, then maybe so. Next, on squawk pod Procter & Gamble reviews its latest quarter and zoomers, household Staples. We just delivered our 13th consecutive quarter of volume, sales, consumption and share growth. We grew our top line globally in 9 out of our ten categories. We held our built share in 36 of our 50 top category country combinations and built aggregate share about 50 basis points. We overcame significant commodity and transportation costs with that strong top line and with our continued cost savings program to deliver earnings per share about equal to last year down 1%, $5 billion of cash returned to share owners. "Behind with Chuck a scallop and buckle up and right along with us every Saturday night for Children. Football Report year round Brought to us by the South Point Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. Chuck. Let's continue with our discussion here. We've got a lot to talk about tonight. Being at Dante Williams is now the new head football coach at Qsc. He got his first victory today and Pullman 45 to 14. Let's talk about the game today and some of the things that to happen during this game first of all, Let's talk about the loss of their quarterback, Cadence, Lotus. Well, coach. It was almost like a replay of a couple of times we've seen first It was J. T. Daniels that went down against Fresno and then the next year, it was Slovis that went down and Matt Fink had to come in. And this time Jackson Dart was the guy that replaced Slovis. You took a big hit in the first series and watch your state got off quickly got off 14 Nothing. And with that said, USC was on the road and all the momentum in the world was in the Cougars favor. Nick Rolovich made a couple of controversial moves. Did not went forward a couple times on fourth down down deep in the end zone, and USC basically climbed. The mountain fought their way out of it. And you know dart was a player that was highly recruited. He came in with Miller Moss as part of a quarterbacks signing class. Matt Fink, uh, saw the writing on the wall, and he retired. He had another quarterback who Um, blew out his knee and spring football and you have been saying all along that if you didn't know who these players were that certain players at the quarterback position we're standing out for for you, and I think that's a great place to start. Because of what happened against Stanford and then what you saw with Slovis and initially, um, being removed and then dark coming in wells for everyone's knowledge Slope. It's had a guess the second catch in his place they're planning on having him back for next week. But they wanted, of course, be careful and they made the pull. They made the change. They put Jackson Dart in there in Jackson darted, you stated as a great football player. And as you mentioned, if you at the beginning of fall camp when he was out there, practicing between Miller Moss and him and Kate in, you can really Tell the difference. If you change your jerseys that didn't have any numbers on their jerseys. He's a more physical type of player. He's a bigger player. He's Mars doubt he could probably take more hits than the other two and he took a couple of hits today and I think that maybe a couple of those hits the other quarterbacks might have had trouble with, but he ran the ball couple of times and made big yardages on those runs They made. They ran a quarterback draw and keep at one time and, you know, probably if they hadn't lost kitten, and he didn't hurt his knee there to run more times as far as the quarterback, because this is something I've been talking about if you have a run one back offense, your quarterbacks got to be an athlete as far as being able to carry the ball Boot lake and do different things to give you the ability to spread the field and so on, and Jackson does this I think that every time he took a hit, or every time he threw a complete pass, he gained confidence and I saw the team gaining confidence in him. I saw the coaches getting confidence in him. He was exciting. He was excited about being on the field. And and the team sort of rallied around him and made some big plays. And, of course, you know the defense stopping, watching in Satan's and forth, downplays that they did change the momentum of the game when USC was down. 14 nothing and gave them an opportunity to come back and play themselves back into the game. They did it. Basically, I believe through the passing game, which they are. They're still called in. As far as I'm concerned every attack running game they do run the football but not the extent of what you call a balanced attack. Where you have running plays keeps and you had every different hole within the offense and you don't go under center. When you have a short yardage situation to do a couple of things, I think That possibly in the future. This next week, Dante Williams will go to the offensive side of the football and have some conversations with Graham Herald the obvious of coordinator and say We've got to improve these areas if we're going to continue become A better football team. So, but they gathered around him and he made some big plays. They made some big catches and they scored 45 unanswered points, but they didn't do it all themselves on the offensive side of the football, the defense Created turnovers, Fumbles interceptions. Made some us stand. Stop them on fourth down couple of times. So I would say that this quarter or this game, maybe not the first quarter itself. But this game, they look more like a football team together as far as their enthusiasm on the sideline on the field. As far as together as far as having an identity. Still to work on that. And, uh, seen a coaching staff united excited with each other, doing different things that I didn't notice. Really in the past a coach that was engaged head football coach engage in what was going on. Obviously. Don t Williams says. You know all the offensive plays and calls that are going on. But he doesn't know the place yet, but he's learning them. And he'll probably never know the exact calling of all of them by the end of the year, But he'd be able to know what series he wants. And what do you want to do it? If you want to go for it to kick a field goal, you got to down to score or we're going to kick a field goal. All of these types of decisions that he has to make and when to use his time out, but This was the first time I saw a team. That had the likes of being a team as far as all around. As far as in special teams as far as in defense as far as getting excited, making plays, Uh, you know, getting excited that spreading the ball around two on the offensive side of the ball. As far as London making some great catches forward this, uh five star receiver making a great catch the tight end transferred in from Texas making a play. Thought it seemed to be more unified, Chuck as far as the overall team effort to me, and I think they'll improve a lot more this week each week, this team will Carry over the enthusiasm and the plane ride home from Palm in as far as feeling more like a team and traveling like a tape. He even made the statement. We're going to travel in uniforms. What he means is my sweats or in the same dress. As we all do not individuals wearing certain clothes. This and that and not being recognized on who you are. What team you're at when you're in the airport. So there's a lot of little things that it takes a long time to get going again. But I think he's headed towards the right direction. In a way this football team played today, coach. One of the things that has to be addressed is the Russian game and let's go over some numbers that Dart six carries 32 yards along of Of, uh 6 18. And that was on the first play of the game that he was actually in Chianti Ingram, the portal transfer from Texas seven carries for 16 yards along run of 12. Vavi Mala PE nine carries for nine yards along run of five, Gary Bryant had one for three that went for a touchdown on a swing route that was considered to run. But it was London 13 for 1. 72 touchdowns. Um, along of 18. You had a situation where Bryant made contributions right before the half that long touchdown pass of 38 yards, had three for 56. Washington three for 31 crewman Hack three for 29 John Jackson, the third two for 12 Mt. P two for six. And then he had man Jack one for 42. Kyle Ford, one for 36. That was a touchdown EPS. As you mentioned one for 18..

"Vaccinated against Covid 19 Under the governor's mandate, commas Keith Eldridge reports more than 1000 workers are applying for a religious exemption. Yeah, like his first two years, So yeah. Here. The other the other ones on that list in order number one Alzheimer's Pete Carroll. Pretty good success. Henry Sanders. He was a la right John McKay, USC legend. Our own. Andy Smith, speaking of legendary and again the name of pop Warner. I know him. I went to school. I went to Pop Warner women, two different schools together. Yeah. Um, so five of the top nine in the Pac 12 list are from USC. Not that surprising, but the fact that Clay Helton's number six is on there. These are there. Yeah. All right. We got a game in a couple of games in progress. You got us. CRS should say Oregon state. In West Lafayette, taking on Purdue and produce leading that ballgame 13 to 7 in the third quarter, the quarterback for Oregon State Is Sam Neuer. Sam Neuer was the quarterback at Colorado. He's in Oregon. E went to Colorado played safety and his first team, especially they didn't play and then was second team All league last year as a quarterback and transfers out, Yeah. Two Oregon State, So they're down by six late in the third quarter in Seattle, the Huskies taking on Montana. The Huskies offense hasn't shown up yet. They scored early 7 to 3 at the half right now, so Jimmy Lake As first of all, he's not lost The game as head coach at Washington is four and oh, And he's not played a game that was not contested at Husky Stadium. They played all four their games last year, that Husky State at Husky Stadium Now once again, and once again they do it again. So interesting for Jimmy Lake and Huskies. You see LA And LSU. It's the big one. As far as the Pac 12 is concerned. Non CONFERENCE game today 77 u. C. L A and LSU. A lot of people thought. Well, you say they beat Hawaii last week. Hawaii. Not that good under Todd Graham. But LSU would be the real test. Well, so far. The strength of that U C. L A team has been their defense. I mean, they got all after last week, and they're playing pretty well again today. They looked good last week in that opener against Hawaii there, you know, I got nice running back to in chardonnay like that Dude can roll from Michigan Transfer comes in. He is a very good running back so I'm pretty impressed with useless so far this game will It'll show you where they're at athletically. LSD was awful in their first game last year, they lost the Mississippi State. I don't know how if Ed Orgeron gets that team going early if he doesn't have that national championship caliber team, right, so We'll see. They travel out here. I don't know what this is going to tell us about your cell. Except they can go ahead to have with a big opponent. I'll say this kind of overall Pac 12 view for me from what I've seen in the first week. Jaden Daniels is for real. This year, My jury was out on Jane Daniels because he was he was not a great decision maker. That first game wasn't a great opponent. But his decision making was very, very good. He was crisp. He looked very clean. Based on what's going on Arizona State. I'm guessing this is going to be his last year in the conference, so enjoying while he's here. Because there's going to be some issues going on down there after the season's over. He is really good. UCL has a running back and a defensive line. That means is going to be very good this year so they can be something SC. Jury's out right there pick to win this whole thing because here's Alabama goes and beats Miami 44 to 7, I think today That's what a team who is in that national championship picture does Good opponent. Bad opponent doesn't matter S C win 32 7, but they didn't do it very impressively, Oregon Barely squeaks went out past Fresno ST. Fresno State's good Are they better than Miami? I don't think so. And Oregon very barely gets past Fresno State is the Pac 12 ready to compete the national level? Don't know. Right now. Alabama is the epitome of what you do in your first game. If you're playing an opponent that shouldn't be on the field with you, right. The Pac 12 hasn't done that. And so that's my take on the Pac 12 right now. I'm really interested in seeing what cow does here today. They got a good opponent. Think it's an opponent they can handle, but I'm really interested in seeing what happens tonight. A couple of all games later on tonight, BYU and Arizona going at a jet fish his first game as head coach of the Wildcats, he's already brought in 17. FBS transfers to upgrade that depleted roster and Washington state posting. Utah ST Nick Rolovich has made more news. With the vaccine. No vaccine. Am I taking it? Am I going to say anything about it? I mean, that's become a national story now what he's doing because it's mandated at all. State of Washington. I believe employees, certainly Washington.
