Spotify Is Not Going to Kill Podcasting

"I worked at megaphone so full disclosure they are. I left before the deal. So i left in august so twenty twenty And it was really important to me to come to provide my view on it and highlight some of the other people in the space that we're talking about it and i called out j. Richmond of spotify Nick quad hot pod. And ashley carman of the verge with their views on it but specifically nick i really liked for off your lesser spotify pig drawing up butcher pig as spotify and all the different parts of it but i wanted to dig in because you had some really interesting points of view coming from a little bit of a different angle. Now everything i do is add tech focus right a lot of what i'm doing is about the people who are already in the space already working with these tools trying to improve their skill and set to become decision makers or their decision makers and become better informed. And it's very easy for me to forget about the people who are trying to enter the space from the creative side of the production side or the people that that are starting off without getting a paycheck from it. So why don't we dig in a little bit and if you can kinda sum up your view on spotify by megaphone. Maybe we can walk through that and like who. Your view is for right. Okay so i would self identifies sort of mao the pessimist in this space. Because i think there are a lot of people who evangelize podcasts and podcasting and feel like it's going to the next big things you know. We hit that every month. The last fifteen years and i've always been a little bit more depressive. An someone who feels like there is a carnivorous appetite within certain big conglomerates and corporations to take away the magic that is podcasting all the dream. That was podcasting. Is Mac Jones a Good Fit For the Patriots?

"But at some point in time whenever Mac Jones is ready, he is going to be able to operate the full facilities of the Patriots offense, which Cam Newton was never able to do last year, I don't care what was around him. Mac Jones is one of the most advanced. I didn't get a chance to ask Bill. This question in the press conference. I wanted to But Mac Jones is probably the most advanced college quarterback in terms of pre-snap checks reads, all this stuff. All the mental song that goes on at the line of scrimmage I have not seen or heard of a quarterback as advanced at Mac Jones in terms of what his level of experience is. And I think that it's just citing to me. It's probably exciting to Josh McDaniels. It's probably exciting to the Patriots that eventually at some point in time. Mac Jones is going to be able to do a lot of the stuff at the line Shack on. Brady could do. I'm not saying everything. I'm not saying that he is Tom Brady, but just to be able to say, all right, we see this defense, we're going to check out of this, this guy is Advanced Beyond almost all college quarterbacks you. You talk to people around the Alabama program, and they talk about how smart he is. They talk about how he's been teaching the Alabama offense, to Bill, O'Brien wage, Down there, so right? Just in terms of all that, that's a great basis and it's something that the Patriots lacked, whether it was Cam Newton or Jerry students. Did them coming from the Baylor offense home and the Auburn offense, Mac Jones can do everything that the Patriots need to have done at the line of scrimmage and that is a huge key component in this offense and they got a guy who can do that.

"I was twenty six weeks. And i had sadie. She was one pound. Six ounces at birth was not breathing on her own. She had a lot of complications when she was first born Within the first two days of her being born they said she had a fifty fifty chance of living because not only of her size but she was also bleeding in her lungs because they were super underdeveloped so she was hemmorhaging thankfully she pulled through that but she had to be intimated four different times within the first month of her life tummy. Learn a little bit. Just about the nick you well did. The environment look like how often unable to visit her so since she was born. I was still a patient myself for nine days. So i was in and out of going between the nick you in my room so we were able to be there and kind of constantly go back and forth and visit her so at least somebody was with her almost twenty four seven but i would say the first six weeks for her was probably her most trying times. It was when we went through the most difficulty. She had you know echocardiogram since she had laser eye surgery and she had you know all these complications in things going wrong in the other rooms. You're hearing one. Another baby is having difficulty or maybe needs to be intimated or something is going wrong. So you're hearing all that on top of all the alarms going off and bells so sadie loved to either. Go app nick where she would stop breathing or oxygen levels would go really low so you can. You're just watching the monitor and seeing like ding ding ding. And it's getting louder and louder and louder as levels go down along with sadie in the neck you. I think it was a hundred and five days so like three and a half months so we spent a few holidays in there. I literally can't imagine what would be going on in my head for one hundred. So park street deli is their in house brand. They do a lot of prepared. Foods are usually really good. So this is a grilled boneless skinless chicken thigh meat situation in teriyaki sauce with pineapple. That sounds perfectly. Hawaiian looks great. It's funny i. I think i don't like change. Tie me. But i think that also could just be because i was raised in like a diet household and told that like he is better than dark meat. Maybe a really do like it yeah. Chicken thighs don't like the sound of it. I don't want. I know that i'm eating chickens by but it is. I like all chicken. Wait this tastes exactly like something. We tried once before. Maybe we did. I think at a school hall. Hawaiian chicken thigh foam another brand. I can't remember the name. This is great outrageous. Whoever told me chicken thigh meat is not good mom. I have a person. One hundred and eighty calories three grams of fat twenty grams of protein. It says six smart points. That's like wild. I would add that to my rotation immediately that seems impossibly low to me. I'm going to hope for the leave. It how many i mean. How many calories per ounce chicken. I mean it seems about right for chicken breast. I thought five meet was heavier. Should the Bruins Be Concerned About Their Current Third Line?

"Fairly obvious one has to be that third line, right? I mean, that's the line that where you've got your top six clicking very well right. Now, you got them drawing a lot of these matchups, Ideally you would think that a third line where you have coil in the middle that you guys that were top six guys prior to this that have a top-six talent and Nick rejected price. You saw them further down the line up against easier matchups. You'd imagine the goals would come right or you would at least get more consistent production where they're afforded those those easier looks and so far that really hasn't happened now granted this been they've had some chances right? I think the rules in seven shots on goal during Tuesday's win over Buffalo, especially last week. They had a couple of really good grade eight looks and just did not pan out. So there's been chances but it also it's been kind of choice between right. They're getting a whole ton of offensive zone time and not having much to show for it in terms of tangible production. So that's the line. I think you definitely need to get wrong. I mean we've we've talked about this for years now right of you know, how good this lineup can be when you've got that third line really clicking as you saw on the 2019 postseason, so they have to wear may be shuffling those guys up or just sticking with and hoping they break through they gotta correct that and then the other one I'd say just fixing on top power-play unit which

This is a <Speech_Male> great season. <Speech_Male> Nick was <Speech_Male> a great lead <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> This is kind of what <Speech_Male> I would call. <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> Nick you <Speech_Male> know was a villain <Speech_Male> of sorts <Speech_Male> in some way or <Speech_Male> another <hes> <Speech_Male> during Andy <Speech_Male> season came back <Speech_Male> through Caitlyn <Speech_Male> season onto <Speech_Male> paradise and people <Speech_Male> were starting starting <Speech_Male> to ask wait <Speech_Male> who is nick I actually <Speech_Male> like him <Speech_Male> and now he becomes <Speech_Male> the bachelor in it <Speech_Male> felt like <Silence> for the most part <Speech_Male> people <Speech_Male> really enjoyed <Speech_Male> watching <Speech_Male> nick at the bachelor <Speech_Male> because <Speech_Male> one I think he was real <Silence> to himself. <Speech_Male> into <Speech_Male> his cast <Speech_Male> of women <Speech_Male> were were standouts. <Speech_Male> I mean I think <Speech_Male> that was a cast <Speech_Male> of women <SpeakerChange> that <Speech_Male> really made the season <Speech_Female> great and <Speech_Female> it actually. <Speech_Female> <Speech_Female> In. So many <Speech_Female> ways became <Speech_Female> the current show <Speech_Female> or seemed <Speech_Female> like Korean. Was the <Speech_Female> lead for at least <Speech_Female> six weeks because <Speech_Female> it was like every <Speech_Female> single week she <Speech_Female> was the person <Speech_Female> everyone was talking <Speech_Female> about she <Speech_Female> was the first kind <Speech_Female> of. <Speech_Female> Quote Villain <Speech_Female> that <Speech_Female> like. <Speech_Female> You couldn't help <Speech_Female> but also enjoy <Speech_Female> watching <Speech_Female> you are like man <Speech_Female> I can't stand this <Speech_Female> girl but at the same <Speech_Female> time, she's so <Speech_Female> outrageous. <Speech_Female> <SpeakerChange> I. Have <Speech_Female> to keep watching <Speech_Female> her. <Speech_Female> You didn't. You <Speech_Female> didn't even <Speech_Female> love to hate her you <Speech_Male> just kinda <SpeakerChange> loved <Speech_Male> her yeah, <Speech_Male> and now you <Speech_Male> just love. <Speech_Male> Been Awesome. <Speech_Male> This podcast that we appreciate <Speech_Male> her <Speech_Male> well it's another <Speech_Male> week of <Speech_Male> the go <Speech_Male> nick season <Speech_Male> just aired. <Speech_Male> It's also <Speech_Male> into a new month. <Speech_Male> It's now September <Speech_Male> how crazy <Speech_Male> is that but Ashley <Speech_Male> I <Speech_Male> will be back <Speech_Male> once again <Speech_Male> with another episode <Speech_Male> of the almost famous <Speech_Male> podcast again <Speech_Male> as mentioned earlier, make <Speech_Male> sure you go back and listen <Speech_Male> to Andy Dorfman's <Speech_Male> in-depth. She talks <Speech_Male> about Nick Vile quite a bit <Speech_Male> but also just <Speech_Male> talked about her life and <Speech_Male> who she is a person <Speech_Male> and it was super <Speech_Male> super <SpeakerChange> enjoyable <Speech_Female> to <Speech_Female> gets tease if <Speech_Female> you guys aren't <Speech_Female> yet sold on <Speech_Female> listening to. Andy's <Speech_Female> episode. <Speech_Female> <Speech_Female> She reveals <Speech_Female> to us <SpeakerChange> who <Speech_Female> if <Speech_Female> she had to go back <Speech_Female> and do it all <Speech_Female> again, she <Speech_Female> would have chosen <Speech_Female> if she was the Bachelorette. <Silence> <SpeakerChange> <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> That <Speech_Male> is something to <Speech_Male> listen to hey <Speech_Male> that <Speech_Male> this has been almost <Speech_Male> famous podcast <Speech_Male> I've been. "You know. It's I can't make just gotTa keep going out there. You didn't really. What did you lose here? I didn't lose any third the the thing that's like hard now isn't even just like looking back and being like Oh, my God like. That I am like so thankful that it happened. So early on but now that I'm like starting to date again like let's say gone date with a guy or like a couple of days with the same. I. Like everything is like working out the way it is I'm like what if what if he is the same as Akai? No Red flags when you go back knowing what you know now there were there was nothing. Now like, no, he covered it up really like I really thought he was just like a good guy. I don't know even like his friend reach out to me being like I'm so sorry that that happened. Did. You know about his dating history much when you were talking to him. Yeah. He he's like he's a relationship guy he like. Every. Young. Like three long relationships in his life unlike then he now he's been single for like a year and a half or something like that I'm you should spend like. Out on the show when you when you look back and you think about the thing of the conversations you had with this guy, did it all sound really great. Did he ever in the two months you talked ever point out. An insecurity and he had or vulnerability he felt or An omission about like, Hey, listen to open up to you in like you know I did this a few years ago I don't know like sometimes after two months. I I don't know you. GotTa, assume that if we had like an honest conversation over the past say seven years. Your. Life. And you wanted to be vulnerable with me. You might say, Hey, nick I did this shit once and I wasn't the best version of myself. You know what I'm saying like. And I think those are important conversations to have in a dating situation. It's like in an interview like you're. All right. Tell me about your best qualities you're like, well I'm on time and I'm a hard worker, and then you always get that question of like. Well, what are some of your shortcomings and that's a really important question in the interview process in terms of how someone Handles that because the idea is no one's perfect. Everyone has weaknesses and I just want know someone who's like honest about what those weaknesses are. So they can have a chance to addressing them and I can even have a chance to coach them up if I'm their employer works the same way in relationships, and so if this guy you are dating just always said the fucking things. And talked about like just monroe. I'm a relationship guy I love my mom and you know. And it all sounded great. Would I'm not saying you shouldn't believe like there's a Lotta great guys out there. But in two months I would like to you know you should probably have learned something about him. That was a little bit more vulnerable and learn something about him that maybe is a little. Not necessarily like. Law a flaw like something that's that makes you go something he's nervous. Tell you. And you go. Thanks for telling me. I feel like I know you better and I know I know that you're just kind of a guy and like you know what? Listen. Proudly every guy you're going to be attracted to has been a douchebag before you know. At some point I'm not saying they are douchebag. They've been adduced bag. Good to date someone at especially in your late twenties to a for guy who's like yeah I. I, did that Shit. That might be something for you. To like pay attention to the next guy's you meet because you probably are used to dating a Lotta guys are meeting a lot of guys who are good talkers who are really good at like. Saying all the right things on it's all very convincing it. All sounds real. Nice. But. Find the guys who are also willing to like just be honest with you about some of the things that make them not so perfect. Yeah If that makes sense. Does I. Think it's way easier said than done well, sometimes you get people to do that is to talk about your own insecurities and then that gets them to open up and I will say this if. You're dating someone for a month and a half and something comes up. Right And you share something with them I don't know what it is right and it doesn't have to be like anything crate just something I'm sure there's something about you like you like you only your closest friends now. And if they respond to that by either making you feel judged or or just like Oh, well, thanks for sharing. I'm great. I'm a perfect person that's a red flag. You know what? I'm saying like a normal person who really likes you who wants to connect with you would have something to share as well. It's just like a normal thing to do if I were dating Oh will and she opened up about something that she felt vulnerable herself and was kind of nervous. Tell me I WOULD WANNA talk about it make her feel like, Hey, thanks for letting me know by the way..

"He's like thirty seven I'm twenty four. He's got a lot of years on me coach yeah he's G. He's the original nick and I'm like the two point. Oh Yeah. The sexy. Nick I. Hope this. This It's true though it you have to deconstruct what you see other people doing like I was explaining this to somebody the other day when I was on the phone with them, they're like why podcasting and I said because I looked at it and it was an incredibly weak space in the areas that I was in the defense industry, and I look at my podcast as you know, the defense industry meets fit. like I look at your whole body as a defense mechanism right you lift weights to be stronger. YOU TRAIN MMA to be stronger than more more physical and be able to defend yourself more capable. The term I like to use as a capable person chances better chances at everything you did right. So I I just think that there's something empowering about all of those things and they're all tied together in. A way you know whether it's action sports, everything adrenaline all those different things are all tied together and people love those things they all kind of walk in the same path and I think you have to look at, you know who's in your space who's doing what you're doing are they doing it successfully as at a crowded space? You know some spaces are really crowded like fitness we know. Yeah, fitness is. So crowded. So full every day there's a new guy would APPs as a new chick in a bikini there's a new everything. So that's like an insanely crowded space like you might have one or two years of peak. You know what? I mean Jay went down. One of the best bodybuilders ever walked the planet. He won four Olympia is you know what? I mean a a you know ten years ago. And that's an insanely crowded space 'cause every year there are no. Now now nursing are are sending a new king or queen or whoever it is in that space. So it's very hard to win, and now the struggle they go through his some of those people winning I don't even have sponsorship deals don't even have deals because they're not out there. They don't understand social media they haven't deconstructed accepted it. It's been a hard hurdle for them to kind of climb over. So you have to on the phone another guy. I'll plug unprofitable profitable podcasting and and Steven. He was like you know asking questions like you are to me and he was saying, well, what about this and what about that and he said you know John. You're already in like the top five percent of people doing what you're doing because you've already monetize it..

"I am waiting for the actual real answer, but the insider threat teams are using this as a use case for the needs for insiders. We just don't want this to happen to any other companies or any other platforms, because the repercussions could definitely be bad I believe it stands to be reiterated by the way that an insider threat program is not an invitation to spy and mistrust employees. It is merely an invitation. Invitation stand up a platform that can aggregate user data and look for certain use cases in that data to send notifications about potential things that may need to be looked into from an incident response. Use case you can find links to everything. Ian And I have discussed in the show. Notes will include links to that and more, but this week we're going to continue our interview with Mr Nick French. We're going to discuss the fire movement so a little bit different from last week where we discussed working remotely, so please stay tuned for the rest of the interview. So Nick I. Don't know a lot about the fire movement and I'm sure there's a lot of listeners out there. That are probably like me and are not as up on this as you and Ian are. It's been really good here in both of you. Talk about that common ground. Do you mind taking just a few minutes to kind of explain why? The fire movement is yet definitely so number one? It's not it's not something that's for everybody, but I think there's value in it. It for everybody and the fire movement long and short of it is to save enough money and invest enough money early on in your life and career to allow compound interest to work its magic, and increase your net worth faster than the typical ten or fifteen percent rule of thumb that people you know, experts will tell you to put away for retirement, so you can retire at sixty five or so and so people that are interested in the fire movement on typically live a little..

"From the warriors I really did I wanted to buy an album once like two years ago, and there's a record store in atwater village that I just looked up on yelp and it had good reviews. I went to it to buy this album that I wanted to buy. And when I got there I learned, it was a cassette only. Come on man. But they also I think we actually found out today. Those cassettes are tainted. Mold Moldy cassettes I'm so old and so post hipster that as someone in Hollywood and opened up a record store. You know like a couple of years ago and I was like hey. Man Just closed down. Don't do that, don't you? Know Like I. Get what you're right. I was so passed in the Stoller and like romance of it. This is a bad idea. This is a bad business. This is not gonNA. Make it and I'm concerned about your well being just shut it down. I can find these blues albums on Lonnie. Just moved back home, so this can become a payless right now. Something people need. Nick I wanted to ask. I think the last time you were on the show you talked about you and your son playing a lot of pokemon go I wanted to ask what what the state of Pokemon go is in the current climate, and if it's something that you and your son is still doing, it's a lot of like people who I feel like walking around. They're like. Really briskly hoping that like the poker I would just come to them instead of walking all over the city. But not sure at a certain they did expand the range of popish up so that you can like interact with staff without getting super close to it, also my son and I. have taken to doing something which there's a great video online if you WanNa, see the world's best pokemon player. He's a guy that lives in Taiwan and drives around with eight phones at a time and place. Oh, it's I have seen this video. It is absolutely amazing. It's amazing. Yeah, so I guess there's something in pokemon. Go that tracks your. Speed right so this guy is heavy driving, so he like cruises really slow, and then you start a battle, then you can drive off, and it will lie. Keep the battle, so my son and I have I will confess done some driving pokemon like. Go to where the Jimmy's and park outside in the car, and we play pokemon and phone and tablet. To the next place that's that's pretty much the extent of. That Centrally Beautiful I, wish my dad and done with me even though Pokemon wasn't. Invented yet, but he should have. He should've done something about it. I don't know I. Don't know exactly how he would have. Figured that out, but it was his duty as a father and he failed. You failed me and there's been a real revival here in my house. It's been precipitated primarily by POKEMON cards. which no one in my house knows how to play, and nobody knows how to do in the world. I like my six year old. An eight year old and three year old will talk to each other about pokemon cards for half an hour. Comparing different numbers on they do not know what those numbers one hundred percent and I'm like I could probably figure out based on my memories of seventh grade how to play magic the gathering, but I have nothing to offer I am five years too old to know how to play pokemon cards right? And no one else seems to know but I I I did the other day just thinks we're real rough in my house and I and my kids, all they wanted was pokemon cards and I'm like I am not going to make a trip to target to buy. POKEMON cards. Exclusively pokemon that is not an essential trip. is in very definition of non-essential trip, so I thought about it. And I'm like you know what. I have a small but loyal army of dorks. Upon them, and they are all like there is a there is a cross section of them that are too old to want their pokemon cards, but young enough that they have spoken poetry. I went on twitter. Within moments I said. Look all trade. If anybody has unwanted pokemon cards, preferably ones that are don't have any value. I will trade some stuff from the closet. Where we keep leftover stuff you know like. T shirts that we have four left of and that kind of thing Four pokemon unwanted pokemon cards within moments, a guy who lived literally three minutes drive from my house volunteered and I'm like this is it and I went and picked up these pro game on cards from him like full-on drug deal style. Like one hundred percent like on his stoop look around for cops palm to Pie. He had them had them rolled up in a newspaper. Yeah, we're like covered in. You know we're all like wrapped up in our. Wrapped up in our masks and whatnot. A making this clandestine transfer of pokemon cards. Were you worried that it was a sting? It very well may have been distinct. I was looking I was out there looking for clam type POK MON right. I was looking for Bulbous Sore. Third. How. How did the kids react to this guy? Stash where the was good in it. It doesn't matter. Was it? Is what the the Primo Shit Jesse was at the was it the sticky icky Colombian goal? My children, the old Colombian skurdal. By. Some the wife only does on. My Birthday had not interacted with their peers in six months, so they don't know what is a good pokemon card. If it's got pokemon on, and it's good, you know It's the perfect thing to give away something like that too because. I want to I'll keep this until I die I won't give it away. I'm not just going to throw it away, but then this one individual in the Internet says Oh. My kids want pokemon cards, and you just like immediately can't wait to throw them out the window fast enough. that. I literally had the conversation with the guy. You know this is like a you know a twenty six year, old guy or something you know. A A, grown man, but the kind of grown man whose Mom puts things in his luggage when he goes home to visit and he said he was home, his mom said. Do you want me to throw these away? And he said no, of course not and that it had been eight months, and he had not thought of anything that he wanted to do with since then I had not looked at them once, and he was just super pumped to let them out of his house, but not have thrown them away. I think I was in my thirties when my mother told me that she had. Thrown away all my comic books. Yeah, similarly they were I think there was some at my house and then. And I was like. Wait a minute it. What do you mean you throwing them away? You didn't you didn't check with me before this happened. I had lived in at home for over a decade point and I still in my mind, assume that they were safe and sound to be handed to the right person. Do. You know what was in their neck. What comics got thrown out as her? A couple of or something that you you know were in there? I had some pretty early X. men that I had gotten, and then I was like pretty early on to like. Like the first sure I had all the early new mutants in there, and like a few a few other that I used to be able to go onto the catalog. See how much they were worth. If you wanted to sell them, so I whispered wizard had a few that what we're like a couple of bucks which when I bought them, they were like eighty five cents, or whatever so I few that were worth a few dollars, but De, definitely more sentimental on. "Hey. If you're going to sell a company, you gotta go higher. This guy named ebben paying. He's your guy and he's the mentor that you need in so I had no clue who he was I didn't know what mastermind even meant, but I got that from like six or seven different people, and so I find him online, and I find this video where he's I feel like he's talking to me personally. And he's explaining what he's going to do in its mastermind, and so it's the problem is. It's five thousand bucks I didn't have anything. I didn't have room on credit cards. I wasn't sure how it's going to pay my bills the next month. And but I knew in my gut. This was my guy and I also knew that I have been doing everything alone. And that's one of the biggest traps as an entrepreneur as we do things alone. The Lone Wolf it. In I never really had a great mentor or great coach. You know that that had my back and so I ended up getting resourceful. You know Tony. Robbins says it's not about your resources. It's about your ability to become resourceful, so I get a friend to go in halves I. Call it my discover card relentlessly and asked him for more room on the card I'm like I'm twenty years old. Ben With you for ten years. I've never been late on a payment my life. I need a little bit more room and then I'm GonNa. Pay You back. They said no, no, no, no, no, until finally kept escalating to their. You know to the managers and the managers. Finally they they bumped it. And I was so broke man. I had to fly across the country to to get to the same. I was so I had to bring protein mix in a sandwich bag so. If you're not roll into events, you know not sure how you're going to eat. Then you're in a better place than I was, and so would literally have a bag in the hotel cup and people would go do lunch together, and I'd run to my room, and you know what I did. Put a smile on my face and I said. This is the event that's going to change everything anybody that invest in themselves I. Always tell our clients like. Make the decision that you're going to be a top success story. I was declaring that on testimonial video, said Ebben. If you ever see this man, I'm GonNa. Be Your number, one success story and I. Just I was speaking what I wanted. My mind wanted me to speak despair. It wanted me to speak debt and all this garbage, but I realized that I have to speak life into my vision. I, keep inflating that vision and so at that event. Here's what happened. And I believe this is a lesson for everybody. Is that. I learned that my whole story leaves clues. Your story leaves clues in so the fact that. I kept failing what Ebben saw you know it's like a coach can see something that you can't see right, so it was like the described it like a mason jar. If we just picture that, we're all inside of a mason jar like a pickle jar, the coach can see the label on the outside, but when you're inside the jar, it just looks white. You don't know what it says. And he heard my story, and he looked at me and said Nick. The thread of Your Life as an entrepreneur is, you've never been good at marketing. The company failed because a TV. Commercials were broad and not targeted. Why don't you take that and turn it into your purpose in be on a mission to help local businesses actually profit from advertising, instead of failing because print and TV and radio were dying in those those right. And I'm like. Okay what do I do? He goes go via facebook marketing expert. Now two thousand ten. That's brand new known even knows what that means so. I come back from events in say mom and dad be a facebook marketing expert I tell my ex girlfriend of seven years at the time on facebook marking expert. You know what they said and other people said but nick. You're not even on facebook. Like Dude, you're not even on facebook. This is the worst idea of had yet. And this is something that we all face as entrepreneurs, the impostor syndrome. I'm not good enough. Right whom I to be an expert. And I said you know what I'm. GonNa Learn this business. I'm going to do work for people for free and I'M GONNA. Prove value, and then I'm going to grow from there and that's what I did. I did stuff for free I call. Call it! The Anchor Clients Strategy once I knew what I was doing. I went back to Ebben went back to influencers. I got an anchor client. Someone of influence started running their ads as soon as I became cool because I was the guy running ads all the big names. Everyone wanted to work with me. My pricing went up so all the sudden went from this major struggle. To now unlike multiple six figures getting of debt in, it's just it's. It's literally everything that I had written a letter now the letter didn't describe facebook. The letter didn't describe the how it I just knew I was going, and so when I would have a hard day I read the letter when I get knocked down and read the letter in so I built success with it. You know started growing a started getting speaking engagements. Crazy things started happening. It, but people would still come back and say all right man looks like you're doing good. You know, but. How are you going to sell the business you're to you turn thirty. In forty five days. Sixty? People were saying that like. How's that Tattoo GonNa treat you and you know what I kept doing do i. kept reading the letter building my belief believing it was possible, even though it seemed impossible. So, here's what happened. My biggest client. A guy named Scott called Scott from Wisconsin My biggest client is my first five figure client for six-figure client. He got this big project in the insurance. Industry raised thirty six million bucks for you. Said Nick I. Need You fulltime? I need all of you I said Scotland I can't do it. I've always clients. I can't just be put all my eggs in one basket. I don't have the ban with all the time. And he said the magic words. Why don't I just buy.

"Joining me now I last saw the Nick Carter welcome to I last bothered. Thank you so much for having me. All right, let's start it right here. How many kids do you have? And how old daughter? I got two children. I got a seven month old daughter. And a four year old for in a couple of months year, old boy. All right. You got one. You guys going for the Tiebreaker here or Y'all done. well I think we're done. That's for sure. Yeah, it's it's it's. It's definitely a Lotta Work I. I'm I'm I'm sure there's a lot of other people who are who probably say themselves. Yeah, it's a lot harder 'cause they got like four or five, or you know how many kids, but even to by itself it is a lot and right now the age that that my son Odin in. He's definitely jumping on the couches He doesn't listen and and you know. We got a lot of outs going on, and I'm holding the baby. You know one hand feeding her a bottle of the other and changing diaper, and so if a lot of fun but I. I wouldn't have it any other way. I understand. Yeah, right in that category. Nick I got four kids myself so I know exactly what it's all about here and. Like the gender reveals to find out what you were having both times. Guys wait till the end to find out. How did you work that out? So the first time that I actually did the gender reveal was. When I did dancing with the stars, and that's when I announced that I was having boy. It was actually on the show and. I had all the blue balloons come out when we announced it and my wife was there with me. and then the tech time actually with my daughter. We did A. It was we did like a golf ball like hit, and it was an epic fail, and basically we tried to hit this golf ball, and actually had my son gotta hit the Golf Ball and it didn't break, and and so it was what it was, but yeah, those are the two kind of gender reveals that we did we had. Some of those super yacht is sometimes you try to plus them things open they budget. Right yeah. If you could just take a second here to hit my listeners a little bit about your background and what you do. well. I'm one of the backstreet boys. I am the youngest guy in the group I've been in the group for twenty seven years and you know. Since I was twelve years old. I've been back. She boy and Yeah I'm currently on tour with the group We're on tour. the DNA world tour. We had to postpone it B- for obvious reasons. But some new days up. later next year. You can go on actually dot com. Really my main job right now is being a father in is what I live for. Yeah very cool making. About how old were you when you first became a dad and had to becoming a dad? Change Your perspective on life. well I became a dad with my my time when I was thirty, seven roughly and was definitely it was everything that I had ever dreamed of as far as just you know being able to to have you know someone who I could just just love unconditionally and and someone who and I never knew. That love could be so strong and Yeah, so that's when it first happened was when I was around thirty seven years old with my son's. Yeah! Yeah well I know mentioned air. You'll lose it to the pandemic. Obviously, it's changed the lives of all of us here and I know. You teamed up with boss recently. What was the genesis of that response in? well spe-. the hardest part I think about being Wanting to help. And then at the same time you know doing the right thing and you know staying doing the social distancing and staying at home, and and and just being responsible You know you you, you see all the things that are happening. You know through social media, and and how the pandemic is actually affecting people's lives, and and and obviously the the first line responders, and and all the essential workers there who who you know are working endlessly and tirelessly every single day, and the the nurses and the doctors. Who are? Risking their lives, you know for for the lives of other people as I was watching. These things happen I'm like you know I. Would I want to jump in with my car, and just like drive at the hospital, and and you know deliver water or deliver food, or whatever it is, and in normally we would be able to do that, but obviously in this climate we cannot. teamed up with us. and we had this idea of delivering over two thousand bottles water to the Brooklyn's Mount Sinai Hospital, which obviously everyone knows that you know. New York City and very affected as well as other places all around the country, and so. We were able to do that and you can go to my social media. You can see how how it turned out. And all the nurses and doctors received the water and. They were really grateful for it, and it just feels good to give back in any way that we can. We obviously we all also did something when the when the pandemic I. STRUCK WE! We did a something with Fox Typically a benefit without John we did that when it first happened, and so we've been trying to find creative ways to give back while we have to be responsible auntie back home and lost in one of those incredible. Companies and and They were able to to help with that. Yeah good stuff, Nick! One of the most encouraging thing during the pandemic has been seeing people like you in a position that you ran to step up and do so much to help so many people out so that's been one of the most encouraging things about or most inspirational things about the pandemic to see so many good people doing good things here, and and back into you as a dad here what are some of the top values that you hope to instill in your kids growing up? Well. I think it's first and foremost. education is is really important to me, Because in reading which, from a very young age I had was doing with my son Whether it was just. My wife likes to make fun of me like that movie as it Parent parenthood with the you know. Rick Moranis doing the flash cards in the closet like I was kind of Dad. You know like where I want them to be able to have a great start. You know I one of the things. I I didn't I. Wasn't really an avid reader and I didn't learn to read to later on in life, so you know I feel like reading was very very important, so obviously you know giving them a couple of fundamental so that they can really that they can. Can really just kind of fend for themselves. You know and be able to just be able to integrate into society, because it's very fast society, you know there's you know it's all about reading aside. You know you got to be so anyways. Things like that small things. Obviously you know I wanNA. Smother them with love I'm holding my children all the time I'm always Just you know doing things with them, you know. If you go to my social media, you'll see I'm. Doing you know sports, I you. Know I know. He's told me for years old, but exposing them to activities. You know we're always. We're at home. We're working out. You know I I work out with my wife. You know we trade with each other you know and he'll come in, and he'll do some like you know. Stretching and yoga poses and meditation, so like all these things. Here's the thing. I know that my children are watching and they're and I. Just obviously the Kinda that I want to be is a loving, inspirational and educating father, so those are all the things that I want to be for them. Yeah very well said Nick and I think reading is important. I love what you say there, too. I'm a big reader myself. I try to read a book every week and always got my kids involved in reading as well now when it comes to bedtime. What does your bed time looks like you read them stories, or are you singing them? So you know what some songs from the old backstreet boys there?.

"Time for straight talk. Brought to you by straight talk wireless no contract no compromise. I like to call him the North American treasure. He is the head coach of the Toronto Raptors. Nick nurse joining us here on the Sodano. Show Nick I gotta be honest. I miss talking to you so much. I figured I had to get you on the show. How the hell have you been to man? Miss you to show connect with you. I'm doing good. How no doubt I'm good family? Good everyone healthy safe and sound. Hopefully yeah all good man all good. We're doing fine good good to hear so I wanted to bring you on because obviously there's stuff going on around the league and and I always just feel like I wanted to reconnect with you and your story is just so interesting. I I've been telling my audience about what you are. I'm not even joking when I say you're a North American treasure just based on the way you got to the NBA let alone winning the championship. So let's start off with an easy one. How does one go from being a good college player? Good College Basketball Player. That's on the path to becoming an accountant to then becoming a player coach in England of all places. Well good question You know I went to know not. I want to play basketball. They had a really good accounting program. There jumped in the hat and thought that you know when my planned Israel read get a job and and being accountant but as my basketball career was winding down. I think it was right before my senior year. I was like holy smokes. I'm going to be done playing here pretty soon. And and I kinda like this game a lot when talk to my my ad. At the time was actually Bob Bulls be. Who's had of big twelve dollars? He was athletic. Director Knelt Miller was my coach. And I said you guys. I know I'm really close to finishing up as a county group. I think I WANNA coach. And coach miller said sure just hanging around for another year and be one of my assistants and let's see what happens and That was only about thirty years ago so when able to stay employed as a coach since the since that time now I know that certainly there were challenges. Along the way. You've told me stories about calls. You've made letters you've written to two different people like like how many calls. How many letters do you think it took to get you actual work in basketball if you had to put a number on it? I don't know really I think You know I kinda wanted to play again too. I had a during that year. I was an assistant. Northern Iowa had a team in Brazil. Contact me and Want me to play kind of like immediately You know in the in the spring or something and I kind of started gearing up for that and then it fell through and then I said Geez I. I'll see if I can go play in. This is Kinda pre. Well it's a long time ago. Pretty Internet and everything else and I just got a probably got about ten or fifteen addresses through random people Japan Australia England Germany. And just Kinda sent out a packet of You know a resume. I guess it's a newspaper clippings or whatever and cover letter that said. Hey I wanNA play play or coach overseas and And Guy called me up and said it says here you want to play or coach about both. I said okay now. I'm GonNa do it so I was on the plane. A few days later to to Darby England. Wow and you get there and so within days you're there like what was that like. Have you ever been overseas? Yeah we took. We took one trip We took one trip when I was a junior. I think it northern Iowa we. We did Switzerland France Germany You know ten or twelve day trip and played a few games over there in the summertime. I never been to to Darby England and It was pretty interesting. I mean it was. You know you go over you land. The owner takes me to the pub and and says to me. Hey I need you to score. Twenty five twenty five at night and I kinda say average like ten points. A game in college is not really my thing. You know I get the ball to floor. Start the offense where if you want. But he goes. I you need to score and Well we had a game about four days after I got there and Kinda I guess I realized what he was talking about was better to few few more than I was accustomed to. That was that was kind of fun myself. The green light as a head coach and players. It was good. So what challenges did that present though I would imagine. There have been some right as you're a player and the coach. Yeah Yeah for sure. I think it's You know this is probably gonNA sound. Well I don't know I was going to sign up. I'll tell you one of the first challenges. I remember being out their plan. And you know playing hard trying to set an example of of of Playing D. And you know if we run wind sprints. I'd try to win on you. Know shooting drills and try to win them. Whatever but you get tired and you're still trying to you know you're trying to catch your breath and then you're still having to give instructions and inbetween drills and all that kind of stuff so getting used to talking with Sh you know when you're winded was one of the first challenge is that we had. Yeah I would imagine. Yeah could easy nick nurse joining us here world champion head coach for the Toronto Raptors Nick. You're the only coach in the NBA. That's been a head coach and the NC double a. The G. League and overseas. So I'm GonNa ask you just a series of questions about these experiences first before we get into the current NBA. And what you've got going on. Now what part of that? Path the end the G. League. Nc double or overseas was the most humbling for you It was you know it was the overseas it was the overseas for sure when. I was a player coach Darby This is this is a be the best story I can tell you. I remember. Our first game was down. A team called the London Dockland's and They were getting ready to announce the starting lineups in this guy went out to kind of mid court and you had a Mike and and The MIC wasn't working so we just set it down. Show shouted out out about the study but no Mike or or anything so I I kind of lead over. The an American guy was playing with it. I said man we really hit the big time here man so I was probably I was probably at you know okay. That's fair now. The next question may be the same answer. 'cause that was pretty interesting but which one of those experiences the NC double A. G. League overseas. Which one was the most interesting for you? All the overseas. For sure I it got interesting like the second time around me so I went to play the player coach at Darby and then literally that next year I got offered the head coaching job at Grand View University in Des Moines Iowa. Near near where? I'm from so only the only played for a year and I started coaching Went to the University of South Dakota to do a master's degree and being assistant there and then I went back to England but I kinda like Regretted my first time around that I didn't get out and see more of Europe and and things like that and they had a bunch of breaks. During the season they used to used to break for a couple of weeks for national team breaking things like that and I was determined the second time around. You know jump on a plane or put my car on a boat and over to Belgium or France or whatever any break that I got so I started started getting out and seeing you know just every place I could see and that was that was As you can imagine was awesome. That was fun. Yeah for sure and then last one on those three on those three experiences which one was the most rewarding. They're all they're all great. You know I think It's it's hard to beat to the D. League experience the G. League that that was a of all the places you coach. That's Kinda got the most level playing field. You know like almost every teams under the same circumstances. There's you know none of the guys are are getting paid. It's not like you can go buy a bunch of expensive players or or any of stuff. Everybody's kind of you know a plane under the exact same rules and and the Games will great players. Great Fun to coach. Think the experience there for for Those those six years. I was a head coach in the minor. Leagues was was the most valuable probably nick nurse. Champion head coach of the Toronto Raptors this year on the Sodano show the G. League experience though I mean so many players in and out you and I have talked about this off camera before. How much did that help you in your first season in Toronto particularly with managing in out of the lineup? I think it helped a lot. I think You know it's it's it's hard to deal with. I think I think my first year in the in the D. League with the Iowa energy it it was It was something you know. When you're rolling right along in four guys on and four new guys come and you got a game and twenty four hours or something trying to manage all that rebuild. Chemistry redefine roles. Teach as fast as you. Can you know All that stuff I think took a little bit to get used to But once you get used to it I always say you're kind of doing you know about ten times a year every season. Kinda get you ready for anything you know playing playing guys missing guys. You know we had guys in and out of the lineup is as everybody does but it really it really gets you kinda condition to it and you just you know when the ball goes up you gotTA figure out a way. No matter who's playing who isn't home or away or seven o'clock or eleven. Am or whatever all stars you end up playing in the minor so you just kind of get conditioned to to nick. How did you approach the team with that? Kawai situation with the load management and him being an in and out of the lineup. Because as you mentioned the G. League that that's more traditional geyser in and out for a bunch of different reasons. But how did you approach with the NBA squad with him? Yeah I mean I think that First of all didn't didn't make a big deal out of it. I think that tried to you know. Educate them a little bit. You know he say the guy hasn't played you know over a year or whatever it was and and To be honest with you I was. I was surprised he was wary. Was when we got it I was I was probably anticipating it being a lot slower process of getting him ingrained in the team but but he was Kinda you know ready from day one a training camp and you know his first preseason game where like okay we know we know what we got here is pretty good and and But we we. Did you know we just educate him told them? Hey this is a bit of a process. It's going to that. We're going to take and we're playing the long game here. We WanNA WE WANNA you know slowly. Bring him in Manage the minutes managed games and and make sure that that not only him. But we're all firing on all cylinders late in the year. You know guys that I've talked to on your squad guys on his current squad. We'll say you guys in the media don't know that he's actually Wayne more engaging behind the scenes than he would ever let you guys know What is he like as dude? He's a great great dude man first of all You know He he's quiet. You know obviously you know. Everybody knows that but he's but he's running as well you know he's one of those guys that when he does when he does land one. It seems to have more impact. Because he's not trying to land the bill. I mean is Is Jokes are seem seem to be pretty funny when when he does throw them out there but Great great to coach you know was always super engaged and and You know was was not in his head. You know paying attention. He was always locked in. That was that was super enjoyable for certain. Certainly from anybody but for guy his caliber. When you hit the shot against Philli like what's going through your mind. Does that this time. Stop there when he hits that shot. That bounces like four times. Yeah I mean I was I. It's always just relief. I think there's a lot of you know. Build UP TENSION A game. Seven the off series. That's been going on for number of days and and When those things go in all that tension and stress just kind of leave your body from your head to your toes slowly and you just feel pretty relieved and happy. Certainly that you'd get a live to go onto the next round but yeah that was a pretty cool moment nick nurse champion head coach of the Toronto Raptors with us here on the Sodano. Show nick.
