"And it was OK. Everything is going to start on time. So I buy my flight for you know the weekend before pitchers and catchers you're supposed to report because when pitchers and catchers report Writers get access to the ballpark. We get in there. We're all set to go. And then you find out that maybe they push spring training back and I'm thinking, Oh, maybe I'll have to push my flight back. I don't really have a hotel yet, So we'll figure this out that I find out that okay. It's all starting on time. But writers actually aren't let in for an extra week this year. So the first day that I can be at Scottsdale Stadium isn't until February, 22nd. For the Giants. First team workout Today is February 11. So I am going down there. I might just come back. I might come back after the weekend, and we will see, you know, may can't spend enough time in Scottsdale and so we'll see. We'll see. I don't have my hotel reservation starting. So, as you know, I went to Arizona State living off a few friends couches for the week. And reporting on baseball from the Scottsdale area is kind of my story right now. It sounds to me like this is not this is not a work trip. It sounds to me like you're cruising down may have a feeling that this is a work trip. This is the work grinding away. When you get there I will be. I will be. I got a ton of interview scheduled. All I needed just borrow a friend's wife. I said, Well, let's see if we can get some answers because you said to me that there's so many questions around this team, and there are and you know, baseball prospectus puts out there thing with You know what you project the Giants defense. Shit. I think they had him it at like, 76 wins or something. And yes, I've seen 74 75 76. I have not seen anything in the eighties. So far by the way, can I Can I just make a statement quickly here, and that's the 76 or 77 Win team is the most frustrating team in baseball to work like the 2000. I don't know. Can I offer you like a 2008 San Francisco giants like You mean my favorite San Francisco giants of all time, or, you know, come on Jorge Castillo and third base. And And so it was one Benji Molina was hitting his prime. Yeah. Big money in little money, And I want to say problem may have come up the next year, you know, nine Hotness. Yes, Yes, I think so. He may have been end of 2008 and had too many at bats to win Rookie of the year in 2009, because he would have been that guy that year. Can I offer you like a Ryan rolling? Or maybe making a appearance? By the way? That was Brian Bo Cock? The starting shortstop that might have been the year of the Brian Bo Cock was the starting shortstop Kevin Franzen gets hurt in spring training on Marva scale was hurt in spring training, and so they go to the singlet. Shortstop at but you know what came out of that? Oh, a team and in my memory, 08. No. Nine was big for pieces that led to the bullpen run for the World Championships. Sergio Romo. They had to find Guillermo Mota was a guy They brought over in, like, Oh, wait or 09. Danny Santana was around. So serious mottoes is your remember. You're remembering some guy's better than how about how about Alex Hinshaw? That's a lefty. That's a guy who I loved him. So I had that bugs Bunny curveball anyway, dude, lots of questions around this team who's gonna be the closer Whose baton against Who? In which line up to you. You came up with syriza of kind of like mailbag questions right about about what we should be focused on for this year. Yeah, I've been focused on this writing for the Bay Area News group this week. Bunch of different giants topics that were thrown out there to fans getting their reaction and I want to ask you some of the most burning ones and, of course. The most important place to start when Farhaan Side, he said that the biggest offseason acquisition for the Giants was not actually any players that they've signed or traded for, but his Buster Posey That leads to the question. What can the Giants realistically expect from Buster Posey after he will go 550 days between starts if he starts on opening day for San Francisco. See, this is Ah, That's probably the biggest question period and not so much so, like. I don't even think that's the biggest question like like relevant to success for the Giants, But I do think, if poses good or opposes the Posey. We were used to seeing for so many years. Obviously, the Giants are in a much better situation. I think the better question is like What are they looking for? Like you can have your expectations for like we need him to to put up these numbers. But what does he need to do to help this team be successful. He's gonna play Gold Glove defense. It's just what he does behind the plate. I don't know how much run he's gonna get it First. There's a lot of right handed bats. There's there's no reason for Buster Posey's to pick up the first base and spent this year. No reason whatsoever. So the question I have is, Does he end up in a situation like we're watching Warrior basketball right now? Second warrior reference of the pot by the way today, Steph Curry looks like he's more fresh than we've ever seen. And Draymond Green looks pretty good, too. He had a four game scratch over the last week or so. Re and 50 assist his legs Look good. I think there's something to be said about guys in the N B, A who play year after your deep into the playoffs, putting a lot of extra miles on those legs. The same can be said about Buster Posey in the postseason. For that stretch of years, he comes up in 09 sure, at the end within 2010 in May deep into the postseason, when the World Series 12 the exact same thing, 14 the same thing, 16 the same thing into the playoffs. All of those times. I think you said this last week outside of the Grand Slam off from that way toast. There's not a whole lot of offensive Colin cards for Buster Posey in the playoffs, So it's all about how he handles the staff how he handles the defense that he calls pitches and maybe unrivaled by anybody in the game today, outside of Yadi Molina in ST Louis Buster is the best catcher of this generation. So for me, it's about where he's hitting in the lineup. What are your expectations for the offensive production? So I don't know if he's gonna be like Is it gonna be Steph Curry fresh because he's had this time off, or is he gonna be that hip is just is just still not what it used to be. You know what I mean? I'm really Yeah, I'm really fascinated because I believe it was. Nick Hundley, who said back in 2017 when he was first playing with the Giants came into spring training and said after Hundley had played it course field in Colorado that if Buster Posey was a Colorado rocky, he would win the batting title every year. He is that type of a hitter. He is that type of knowledge plate discipline. Ability to go the other way work with what pictures are giving him and he just wasn't healthy enough in 2017 2018 2019 to really do much damage And now that he will have this year and a half off in between serious baseball competition that's putting stress on his body. Will he return to that level? Where you know he is a 300 hitter? He is a 3 10 guy. We know he's not gonna hit 20 home runs. That's just not happening. He probably won't play enough to hit 20 home runs. Will he catch 100 games? Well, it only be 81 games. How quickly will Joey Bart working the next I'm really fascinated. See all of us, and I think we're gonna learn. Ah, whole lot. In spring training about what Buster Posey is capable of just based solely on where he is in line up how often he's playing. If they've got him going back to backs. It'll be interesting to see Adam. I want to move on to pressing question Number two, and that is speaking of the lineup. Speaking of where Buster Posey's hitting. I do believe it'll be much lower this year than it was under Bruce Bochy is the Giants lineup better? Against right handed pitchers or left handed pitchers. Keep this in mind against righties. You'll see Brandon Crawford, Brandon Belt, Tommy Lost Ella Alex Dickerson. Maybe new trade acquisition. Lamont weighed against lefties. It'll be Donovan Solano, Donnie Barrels. Wilmer Flores, Darren Rough, Austin Slater and Marie She. O D. Bon..

"An alva- knowing and alva- wrote a book, it's called infinite baseball notes from philosopher the ballpark, and I'm going to read the PR piece that came with this because it really explains what this book is about. Then alva- can tell us about it. And of course, Alvis local here in Berkeley as well. And it's a baseball is a sport for those with patients that consists of long periods in which little seems to be happening punctuated by high energy outburst of rapid fire activity and the deeply entertaining, infinite baseball notes from philosopher ballpark philosopher and devout baseball fan Alvin knowing explores the many unexp. Beckton ways in which baseball is truly a philosophical kind of game. No, he's wide ranging thoughtful observations show that baseball is not only a window and language culture and the nature of human action, but his intertwined with deep and fundamental human truth. I came to here, I've I can't wait to hear talk about this book ranges from the nature of umpiring and the role of instant replay the nature of the strike zone. From the rampant use of surgery to controversy surrounding performance enhancing drugs throughout noise. Observations are surprising and provocative making the book. A must read for any fan of the sport. Alba? Welcome to the show. Thank you very much for having. I'm a big fan of yours. And it's just a great place to say with the audience. Yeah. What what are released from from Oxford press about the book, and with that in mind. I'll let you tell us about the book and some of. The observations and how this book came together. The book is a philosophy. And that means I'd had this whole naked history. Head I keeps it English. Californian Berkeley, also baseball fan all my life. And at some point. I started thinking what are these two things things that care so much about have to do with each other? And one of the things that is to philosophy other. How how familiar with feel your your listeners? But plus always begins with one at home thinking about fundamentally, our nature and our nature the world around us. So I thought well, let's begin the exit of us something very close to home for the something. Very dear something very familiar to us all mainly baseball this game that we left. So this book, I try to bring the kind of curiosity and wonder and and drive for understanding explanation that is characteristic of plus to this thing, we love baseball and. In the course of doing it. The book the book consists of thirty two essays each of which is very short and can be made on its own try to sustain document, but lots of hers. I not storytellers. We're not interested in in drama in young John to become like. And so the reason arguments learns through this book. Put it in different ways. I can send summarize in different ways at its simplicity ideas that baseball is a game which in order to play order enjoys a fan. You also need to think about while you're doing it can game. That's that's kind of. That's that went through the book of very good Alvin no is with us infinite baseball notes from philosopher the ballpark. Now. You know, if you listen to my show that we have had a baseball philosopher each year, I'll go back to Tim, Flannery and George context Javier Lopez we had Phil Nevin on there at one point. And this year we had Nick Hundley for a couple of years. And now we have Tony Watson this year. And my goal is to have that person player coach whoever may be take us through a baseball season with the philosophy of baseball. In other words, what happens it's like six essays. What happens in April? What happens in may what happens on a road trip? What happens when you've won four in a row we've lost four in a row. What happens in the issues of baseball bat flipping steroids and have that person? So to give his philosophy of how baseball relates to the fans and to the players on the inside. So that's what I try to do. Much. There's so much about in all of these things that you're talking about baseball. It's long and it requires attention on the part of the audience, for example, engaged they talk a lot about in the book is what is increasingly old fashioned practice of keeping score with a scorecard out the baseball park when you're watching the game. And these people think, oh, you know, you can use the ESPN home cold keep you up. But the interesting thing keeping score the old fashioned way about being updated about being focused and understanding what's going on. What's going on? You know, why is that? What how do you score that understand? How you school co you really thought about it. And I think that goes great opportunity for for focusing the mind in that way. They have I love it. Obviously keep score. And I've taught many people how to do it and everyone has their own unique way of doing it, which I've learned it's very interesting. But it is something where in your mind, you're saying, okay. This is what happened now I'm gonna translated into writing. That's right. That's exactly right. You're you're down. And you'll time as you watch once coach as your coaching it or pitching coach mocking every. What do you Mark down? What you know today is going to depend upon your interest rate. If you're good coach, you interested in the -cation and speed and all these kinds of things you might not be educating keeping Vegas clerk boy, very good. Alvin no is with us infinite baseball notes from philosopher the ballpark. It's put out by Oxford. I assume it's on Amazon and all the places that we looked to get it. Amazon audible it's on. It's it's Togo get it. You can get in different ways, including your local book stuff. Yeah. Of course. And that brings me to the book tree in Montclair where David has many many of the baseball books that we put out your to bring a couple over up in Montclair enlist sale to the book tree, and and get them over to David and let let David put him in the window because a lot of people we have on. We always have publicized their books at the book tree. So you're in Berkeley, correct? Berkeley. Yeah. Yeah. Up to my Clarin do that at the book tree. I. Claes? Yes thing about about this. Sports. When we watch spa. Way in which we care less about what's going on in a material sense. Where the ball goes how the ball is hit. We always think about what's happening in the baseball. They to who did it who done it. Who's before we get the first base because you walked the first base because you've got to hit. It was feel this choice on the basis of an error on whether it's one of those things the other that doesn't actually depend on the accent sort of physically despite it depends on the accident perpetrated in terms of who gets credit who playing and I this. I get that baseball. Is this kind of interpreted that city is one of the interesting things about based about moist. Like, just the it makes it about this kind of forensic to use the term, they use it in cups and rubber shows that who done it. Who's responsible? Very good. Yeah. They're very good. Now. I love it. It's a thinking person's game. And you break it down into different aspects of the game to show how the thinking person may not even realize they're thinking about the game. But they do it as they watch baseball game. Very good. Luckily, the ever read any of Leonard Kopp it stuff. The great baseball hall of fame writer. I'm saying. Have they don't have fish in my mind. Yeah. Look at Keio p p double Tate, Leonard Kopp it, and he one of his books made me think of is the thinking man's guide to baseball. And it's it's along the lines of what you talk about. But Leonard was thinking man and really looked at baseball through a different prism, which I think you're doing and you're making people realize as we watch the game we really doing a mental exercise, which is outstanding. And we may not realize it. This points to a controversial. They'll be so obsessed with trying to control the the length of the game as they put it pick up the pace of play that I think they're actually forgetting that some of that slow pace some of that opportunity to sort out and out in the field. What makes the doing such a beautiful fans enough must? Well. That's why people go to the games don't seem to have a problem with it. It's how they transmitted through through the mediums today that people may not watch it as intently if you go to the game when you go to the game you could stick around and you can enjoy it. But that's the dilemma for baseball because they're marketing. Yeah. That's right to have you on the show Alba anytime, and please if you were at the ballpark stop by and say Hello to us. It's a very good book. And as you said short essays, and I think people will enjoy it all baseball fans will enjoy. And even if you're not a baseball fan, you realize why those of us who are doing joy. Clean with one thing before that Jackie fan. The met. All right. I knew it was coming. All right. My earliest memories earliest baseball members. Watching listening on the radio, it's seven thirty one of my heroes that year. In addition to time-saving, technically was of course, really bays ended up his career with the Mets. So I've got that connection to guys. Well, we'll we'll give you a pass on that since Willie Mays. But it says, you said come clean, and I know you got a New York background. I said, yes. So I can deal with the Mets Yankees. I can't all right album. Thanks so much. Enjoy the holiday weekend. And you're welcome. Thank you very much. Thanks. I really appreciate the support for the book guy. Welcome..

"I think we've received all day. Thank you. That's exactly what we're going for. Yeah. Okay. If they more more because dodgers also emerging as favourite for another potential player who is it in a trait. I will tell you next. Okay. That one we don't. Well. Now, we've got something we dumped that one. No, no. You didn't dump it? Hell, yes. Why did don't fit? It's not our song. We're not seeing it. We're just saying that this one wouldn't play in twenty eighteen will not play. I mean, it literally will not play. Obviously if you missed that far I take offense. Okay. How about that? You wanted offensive songs? We chewed up on found you found one you found one. Okay. Let me see. Well, coming up for you. Fifteen minutes cliff Kingsbury is gonna join us new offensive coordinator looking forward to talking to hammer. See trojans? All right. So here is the deal the Bob this is not Bob Nightingale. Let me see who is Ken Rosenthal now calls the dodgers the favorites to complete a trade for JT rail. Muto? Wow. When did that happen? When did he tweet that he has the boy the Mets were hard after real moot? The met sign Wilson Ramos as a free agent yesterday. So now all of a sudden. Yeah. But what what's what's can think? The dodgers have to give up to get him. Does he say it's unclear exactly what they would have to give up and it could Nova good Greg think about what you just said Greg say that on the air. What did you say that on the urge to know? I just said it in your ear. But the what I'm seeing is Puig is possibly the ones. Think about it. Who's the manager? Don, man. No. But that's what they won't do it. No way. No way Mattingly traits. They had they had such. They were such. Oil in water when they were here together. I mean, I could see I could see one of the young guys gone. I could see a guy like Alex Verdoux going into a trade like that. But I can't imagine that Don Mattingly wants any part of Yossi in Miami. Dodgers, by the way, also interested in pirates catcher Francisco survelliance. He sounds like the backup. He's entering the final year of a three year thirty one million dollar deal. Own eleven point five million this coming year last year about a two fifty nine twelve homers Fifty-seven RBI's eight oh nine oh PS. So he's he's okay. But real Muto is the get he's the get great defensive souls, it plugs. The biggest hole that the dodgers have like the dodgers. Are you know, obviously made the playoffs. Six years in a row won six straight division titles. But they have a legitimate whole catcher the season starting tomorrow. What would it be Austin Barnes Austen Barnes and either keyboard Ruis who played it AA this year or Will Smith who played it w they've got great catch. Cheers in the system. They're just not ready for right now, not doesn't look that way. So what they need is a bridge guy. And I think in order, they go JT Romeu, the second choice would be Francisco Scibelli if they can make that deal and Ken gurney his tweeted that the fallback option would be Nick Hundley. Who's a free agent to forty one ten homers thirty one hundred is seven oh six. Oh PS. That is worse than grand doll Hanley. Yes. That is. Oh, wait, a minute doll is any screen doll definitely out. You guys will he lined he declined doesn't mean they can't sign him again. But he doing whoever right now if you don't resign grand, all then you're also you're going to get a for their draft pick, plus international signing bonus money. There's no reason for you to sign him. Yeah. Well, do either one of you want him? Yes. I would take him back in a second for one year..

"Travis in for George this morning. Almost went back to my old KOMO zealous. Felice via Georgia's here. I heard that. Pig, he's feeling hit and miss the next couple of games less. He appeals dodgers are in Seattle to take on the Mariners and this this felt about right that when you saw what happened a couple of nights ago against the giants were took kind of quasi poke at Nick Hundley swatted at him more than punched him, but what you once he touched him, you knew it was going to have to sit down for a couple of nights. Yeah, for sure. You know. And I guess baseball kind of characterize it as that's the story and they've now dealt with it, but we know better this. That was not the story. What is the story? The story of is giants baiting. Story is this ridiculous unwritten rule about the way that these players are behaving particularly run along cultural lines. When you look at the tape, you look at the video clip, ask yourself what exactly do that warranted being criticized by the catcher? What exactly did he do? Because what I saw was a guy who missed a layup and clapped his hands and said, doggone should've hit it right. When I saw was a quarterback who missed a wide receiver in the end zone as a dog on, I shoulda hit it. I saw a net an athlete who saw something that should have been easy. He missed his opportunity and he had self reflection in a brief moment of frustration and somehow the catcher took offence to that thought he was showing up someone and says, Mefissa things to plead that we rightfully so offense to. So to me, the issue isn't, you know what happened? That one night, the issue is continuing. Nickless unwritten rule about how you're suppose behave in baseball. So you're right. But what happened was this LV and it's stupid, but here's, here's what it is that you're the idea of guy missing a lamp and basketball and clapping his hands, miss it in basketball. That's okay. In football, if a quarterback airmails and open wide receiver and miss it and the guy, you know, stomps foot or throws a fist, he's frustrated. That's okay. One you'll hear baseball players say this over and over and over again. You gotta respect the game and what that means is what that means in that backwards world. What that means is never ever ever bring attention on yourself that if you, if you try to draw attention to you by album, I missed it or I can't believe your disrespecting the game, and you're also taught in the same by those same guys that are teaching all these things that if someone does that, it's your duty as. Someone who does respect the game? Yes, to start a fight. I respect the game, but the beat up as Gatorade could. Right. You are never allowed. This was why you know, look, if Mike trout wants to play like, Mike, that's fine if he wants to hit a home run and put his head down, go around saying, and I guess I got lucky again, great. That works for my trout, but if wants to throw his bat, ten feet in the air and stare at it and skipped up. That's fine too, but not in baseball. Nine for everybody needs to do at the same way. And God forbid, you do something that you are bringing attention onto yourself. It's the, it's the cardinal individually. Hilarious. When you look at the Commissioner's comments about Mike trout and how his history spas ability to draw attention to himself and help market himself. So they'll throw pitches at him. So I'm going to what is it? Are you mad at Mike trout, the best player, this generation so far because he's not someone that the media or fans necessarily gravitates toward or is it you're supposed to behave like Mike trout, and when you don't hit you with the baseball baseball, both. And this is why again is done because I've used this as an example before, but I think it's the best one of these stupid unwritten rules in in baseball. Both of these things are true. We can throw a baseball at you the next time because if you hit a home run and you run around the bases to slow disrespecting the game to throw at you, right. This is also true if I give a home run to ULC and you run around the basis to fast. Yes, I get to throw at you disrespect impactful..

"I think this is the first time l. z. that I've ever done this show on a Friday, and this could be kind of dangerous for me. Why is that. We're going to be done around why? Why is that. Ten right? Give or take that means that I could get started on a Friday way too early. This could end badly by the time they get the Friday afternoon. Friday night, you'll be happy. Hour man is going to say it could be a rap. Can this be registered? I just put all this together. It's gonna be a bad fit for me Chavez. Can I be wondrous and honest with you yet? Last night after tennis, I'm walking away with a guy was hitting with, oh, and he goes, I just said tennis. So you Don't don't get to say. say that work. I set it up. I know we're walking away and he's like, hey, do you wanna hit Friday or Saturday? I just looking to say Don getting high. It was like what that's like. I'm getting high. It's a scheduled guy. I just winked I'd like to. Yeah. Yeah. I'm purposely eating this gummy yet about eleven thirty on Friday. So they gather. He goes. You guys just, you know, plant it out and you got to, you got to schedule it. You gotta skip, but see, I my scheduling, that's that's too much schedule. It's too much runway where you gotta know gonna be. Yeah, no, man. I know when it kicks it if you're going to be in a movie or not, you gotta plan this stuff. I don't even think about that. See, I'm thinking about who else is going to be available on Friday afternoon. Maybe you and and getting before eleven, say, I got, I got a schedule it now, but this is an exciting development in my life or we'll welcome. Good news. Know who else has exciting developing. Yeah, COPD. Yeah, he's got some time to. She's got a little time. He's gotta come on. It's more of a, yes, it's a slap. Yeah, yeah. The thump is not a baseball thing. There's very rarely thump in baseball. Thumping, any sport besides remain, boxing was going to say it's usually a lot of yelling and slapping and posturing. I'm going to get you. You wait. Well, if you lose two games. Yeah, buddy. I'm gonna say I was gonna say, make it worth your while. So we gets his his two games. He gets fined, Nick Hundley gets find as well for their. I don't want to say it was a fight because it wasn't a fight, a push, shove in some some hold me back pros and in. That's too. That's two games apparently. Yeah. Well, we're never know what Nick Hundley actually said. I have pretty good idea. Oh, you do? Yeah, I think so. I think it was shut up and get back in the batter's box. Is that why do say in essence? Yes. Did this was a nother one of these classic white baseball player against Latin baseball player. That's always offended by something that is only offensive to baseball people as far as I can tell, and it was a shut up up and get back in the box. And then we give you talking to me kind of thing. And we know where one from Upton to me. Right. Do you buy the theory that it was done on purpose, get under his skin? I think it's possible sure. I wasn't necessarily about him being Latino as much as it was about his just to hook him. Yeah. Yeah. I think that's possible because Puig has is huckabee'll you know, he's, he's proven that he, you're, you're able to hook him. It was I, if that's what it was, then Puig needs to be better. I mean, Hunley and the we. I know it's a theory not to cook off. I notice the theory. I don't buy it just because Honey just got to the team. He's been a journeyman the whole. So I don't think he's he's operating on that level like foresight, but there that is that theory that, hey, you know, this is a guy that I think it's possible bid just for the simple fact that even if he hasn't been around the giants for a long time, he's been around baseball for a long time and you know the guys that you can push their buttons. You know the guys that are likely to react like that and tweet is probably the top of that category. And it worked in. It's two games..

"Yes, that's that's amazing. Does he play last night? I did see him play last night. I just imagine all the basketball players we have taken in NFL and almost all of them play. What position they're small forward. Powerful. We're no tightening. They played tied. It rejects, you're right. They can't play basketball. This do can place a basket. So my answers tied in, but Chris's born, he's too. At basketball to be successful in Appelt, tiny asked. Tell you. Those guys who were four point two game in college cow, Tony, and then he's one of the greatest endeavor. Fair enough. I when I think NBA guy or basketball player going to the NFL it's almost always the tight end Jimmy, Graham like a guy go up the field. Go kept vogue, but I'd love the d. n. position. That's the one who said the Brown employ d. end. That's that's the spy to give him in the show. What do you mean in the show him? No, we're not good. Did we change it. Here Rogers tonight. That's next on first. Go viral. Yes. The applete and Nick Hundley got into a scuffle a few days ago. Giant Southfield are Andrew mccutchen recaps what transpired from his vantage point. I know you probably want to know about that bra last night. Talk about that was in right field chiller. Probably thinking about my last at bat, how that pitches outside and called it a strike should have been at walk. But we'll talk about that right? Some looking down at my feet. And they say the fans might would've going on. So I look up. Plinking hunting. They go on at it. Next thing, you know, I feel the breeze feel like light tornado just going right on the bull pin on my day. My reaction time is way off. So I'm like, shoot, let me catch up with these guy there whose children staring at each other. And literally, I thought about Brighton into mood, and I was just going to get an karate pose come up. And that was it. Fantastic. All that's great. It was really good. That was really good. Yeah. He knew because the TV copy everyone be watching those guys in the bullpen. They're not coming to do anything, but you teammates wanna know that you're coming to the bullpen. Can't beat the outfielders out there. The bulletins got to go through a door, hit. Hit the last guy out there is an outfield. He was very, very honest, man. I'm just out there. Within your own kid Tibo out there picking the days. Looking down at my shoes, not much change from literally major league baseball. That is screaming that was good stuff back to the NFL. Now Jalen Ramsey was asked about NFL quarterbacks in an interview with g. q., they probably thought they'd ask me to give him a vanilla answer little, do they know kudos to Jalen Ramsey for his blunt honesty, his harshest assessment was saved for rookie quarterback, Josh Allen. Here we go. Ramsey said, I think Josh Allen is trash. I don't care what nobody say. He's trash. He's gonna show too. That's a stupid traffic to me. We played them this year and I'm excited as hell. I hope he's they're starting quarterback. He played a Wyoming every time they played a big school like they played Iowa State which is not a big school in my opinion because I went to Florida state and he threw five interceptions and they lost by a couple of touchdowns or something like that. He never beat a big school. If you look at his games against big schools was always Hella interceptions, hell turnovers. It's like, yo- if you're this good, why couldn't you do better? He fits that mold. He's big tall, quarterback, big arm, supposedly. I don't see it personally, but how do you feel about Josh Allen? Jalen Ramsey. All right. See, what do you make of Jalen Ramsey Scott. Real quick before you answer should be noted, Josh. Ellen did have a five interception game, but it was against Nebraska. Also. They didn't play Iowa State. They played Iowa like his fax worth area..

"Was the team with two hall of famers, and that's the best team he face. Whereas LeBron is beaten a team with the see they were young obviously, but he blinked the KC ninety half three hall of famers all three of one MVP's at a league now, right? He he beat Parker. Ginobili Dunkin. All hall of falls still good at the time. Parker was still near the top of his game. At that point, Dunkin was still putting up crazy numbers. Even though pop was was utilizing him less and resting him more and Ginobili was still arguably one of the top six men in the region hall of famers hall of famers on that team. Obviously, three hall of famous with Golden State Warriors when he beat them in twenty sixteen right in their prime. I mean, the number of of envied seat. Regular season envy peas that he's beaten in the NBA finals compared to what Jordan had to face. And again, that's not to say that Georgia's not great. But as we talk about the six versus one of the bras, three and five or three, six, whatever it is is important to talk about who they faced on the other side and what they had to work with as well. And I can only identify one bad finals appearance, Michael cry by LeBron James and obviously was against the Dallas Mavericks and twenty eleven. Coming up. Next, we'll finish your calls. We'll get to these calls about LeBron Pedro Gomez is gonna stop by earlier today. We're talking about the dodgers big win, getting enough this night. We can about the SEO Puig, Nick Hundley thing that we talked about yesterday and the big story in sports today. Besides this LeBron story is Robert, a junior of the Braves, getting pelted by Jose Urania of the Marlins. And again, we have on the heels of talking about unwritten rules yesterday. The big story again is unruly baseball still rearing its ugly head, so we'll get to your calls. Pedra will stop by all coming up next. I. So there's a lot of baseball stuff to talk about. We'll get back to your LeBron calls about Daryl Morey and what he said and just a second. We spent a lot of time yesterday talking about GOP and Conley meant to good part of the morning talking about Robert AKU, junior and Jose. Urania means no worries. Pedro Gomez. Our buddy joined here on ESPN LA page. Oh, let's start with yesterday as we're talking about. Yes. And look, he's got a shortage history with the giants and vice versa, right? We get all that, but l z and I were having this conversation about kind of a bigger picture conversation. USA today had a story just in the last couple of years. They took a five year sample about how particularly white and Latino players tend to have these type of flare ups. Right? And that there is a disproportionate amount of these situations between those two particular types of people. At what point can we morph into a major league baseball arena where these sides can understand that Latino ball players should be allowed to emotes and they're not trying to disrespect the game. They're just playing the game the way they know how can we ever get to that place. I think if if looked up the white players who go play winter ball beater in the Dominican Puerto Rico or the ones that did before in Venezuela, I think they get it because once you're exposed to what baseball is in Latin America, it opens your mind, it broadens you and then you look around and say, okay, this is not showing up. This is the way they play ball. They show emotion what's up getting the world baseball classic to two springs ago member Yati air Molina's behind the plate for Puerto Rico, and I forgot who they were playing, but there's the stolen base attempts. How bias is that second covering? It starts pointing at Molina before the runner is even tagged out with his glove on the ground because he's just so excited about the throw in about everything happening that was not showing up. That is how the Latin ball. Player grows up playing ball on the island, and I just don't know that American ball player who never experiences ball in Latin America is going to understand that. Patriot hunters baseball find a better way to acclimate to acclimate the old guard with the new guard as the demographics of the Sporkin teams to change..

"This is the thing about the jets, right? The jets and their fans Pacific. They're all collectively Rodney Dangerfield. This is great. Josh Norman is polling higher. I would imagine in New York that he's in Washington. At this point, they finally got a guy who has reputation of being a critic to say, you know what you guys got one, right? Yeah, they might have gotten to right though in it is possible that talking Sam darnold up in this way actually harm Sam darnold. I've seen no evidence that though, in a rookie quarterback out there week one is what you need to do. They have guy. We've seen an NFL star. They have a guy. We've seen leading team to the playoffs as quarterback and Bridgewater. Now, data bridgewater's leg is back to being operable. That's probably the do that you start remember we can't short it. They were telling us about how good teddy Bridgewater was probably try to shield them for having to throw out there. It might be too late. They might have to do that, but I'm not sure that's the best idea. So maybe that's the long con maybe the long is getting them to start darnold Bridgewater to become so cynical. Thinking might work, though this is kind of a brilliant strategy, Josh Norman during. I don't know. I'm just rooting for conspiracy at this point wasn't already obvious. Yes, yell week, benches cleared during last night's dodgers giants game after week. Fouled a pitch back in the seventh inning and said something that upset giants catcher, Nick Hundley, watch it all, unfold home pitch that tweet files back. Action tells me he thinks he had one to hit. There was a high breaking ball was up and flat. We've had Huntley come together. Bench his player. We were talking about this before the show. Well, tell you. I think we English people better than people give credit for that one Spanish speaking right there. No, no, no. It was the universal language of who do you think you are? What do you know another one of these baseball fights that looks just like this? Yes. And by the way, if you are going to fight. Yes, yelp week, I feel like you do need the catcher is a quid because that look at this right as you need the catch the two, three, four, four people trying to prevent him from doing that. The open hand slapped that he's lucky to break his finger on barklay or people try to do that or people failing. He had had enough shots at a whole umpire who I feel like it was close enough to break up that fight, but decided that that was not didn't want a single part of that that catcher did need like the whole BUSTER armor to stop? Yes. We and yes, he did kind of get a bath lip autodial ball, but he he's gonna sell. That's the wild by the catch. Telling him stop, complaining and get back into buck and I don't blame me for getting up in his face on this who the hell are you to tell me to give back into like there's a dude right there whose job that he's in the way you see, walk on. I'm not going to get hurt here. Apparently, said back, I'm not gonna let you disrespect our house and so l. had to trash the living room, but nonetheless the point where it was delivered. Yeah, but I mean, stop completed to get back into box, complained about the empire. I feel like that would be a little bit different. I thought baseball players at the right to be upset with themselves. I would imagine so as well. But yeah, I Dave Roberts about away. He just muscled out the way to get there. Yup. The boss screaming, we're trying to make the playoffs like this huddle, even though he had all his armor still on the fact that all those dodger guys who tried to push him out of the way like that tells me they were letting him know you didn't what those problems that Colin Kaepernick behind home plate. "Yeah, there you go. I spent a lot of time in LA over the years to learn that one John is in the valley. What's up John? I'm afraid he was absolutely correct. This is not a racial or ethnic thing. This is about strategy. You get heads because that's how you play the game. If it was basketball, we'd call it trash talking. So like any player does those sort of things to pump themselves up? So you pump them down by cycling amount? I think it's just a matter of how games are played in all sports or even the things in life. How do you get advantages? How you disadvantages? Steve? Now, he's John John John there. I am. You know, they allow trash talking basketball. They Do. do. That's kind of the difference. What is that disrespectful? Is that insulting? They allow trash talking. Baseball happens all the time on. I mean, do they allow. Unwritten room the whole criminal games. Right. Exactly. I played the game and played semi pro ball in the yet happens all the time. You do things even in your own job, you'd think the psych someone up. Let me hold on. Hold on. I'm curious about your experience playing baseball. You said you play minor league baseball, right? So what would happen if a guy, I don't know, stare too long at a home run. What happened to me home and again, you, you do things you talk about retaliation versus psyching someone up? No, no, no, no. This to me if the guy hits a home run, he stands to play to admire the distance. That's trans. Talk. Let your doesn't attractive. That dot mind. That's not interactive. Well, it's part of the unwritten rules. Homerun, we will hit you because then you'll get retaliated. What happens if they were to bat flip will hit you again. Okay. You're talking about, you know, retaliation versus what you do in a game, two to psych someone up, recite them down. I think you're making. Okay. So you're allowed to be blatantly potentially disrespectful is what you're saying. Blatantly disrespectful me, I know telling a man to get his, but back in the batter's box is not necessarily, I would say, cordial. Oh my gosh. I mean, is it not? Are you that much of a cupcake? No, I'm not a cupcake. I'm just asking you because when this particular player, and as I said, there is a history between these, this gentleman and this team. Clearly the incident will flare up quickly or more quickly, but after a certain point, there's only so much one can take right if I kept calling you names like you just did to me eventually you would crack. Wouldn't you. Does that work? I guess it works well then, but is it the right way to play the game? If you're going to preach about playing the game the right way, where is that line of what makes you the arbiter of it? But you're trying to say the plan, the right game should be changed to expression things to say the part of the game. Is this what? What took place you? You do things the psych yourself up, but you didn't answer my question. What makes you or Nick Hundley? In this case, the arbiter of what that is. Let's not how you play a game is how you play the game, but that's interpreted differently by different people in viewed through different prisons is the point. But if you wanna have you're trying to make generic game at that, there's no generic non trying to make it a generic game baseball. At the time right now is trying to make it a generic game, and they're losing that battle because there's these constant flare ups because of it. So to the contrary, so then you're saying that you wanna have expression, which is great..

"Thirty percent of the league is Latino. So it generally happens with them, but then it it talked about how there was an incident here and the Latino players got his got Schimdt suits us back and whatnot. Show yet there is a cultural divide. Like people may say, this incident was not a cultural divide. You could say that and yes, there's been a history with Yasser Puig in the giants that we're all very familiar with. But there is a an impetus to all of this and it's this. It's the cultural divide. It's play the game the right way, and it's in finger quotes and it's really confusing to me because as we talked about Mike trout, best player in baseball right now was criticized by the sports Commissioner for not having enough personality for not getting out there and putting himself out there to help raise the profile of the sport. Meanwhile, you have players like a Yossi applete in many others who are showing you this personality, that's flipping the beds that's staring down each other that you know looking at a batter and stand him down and saying, go sit down and all this stuff, stuff that makes the sport kind of fun. And yet you have players who are like going that goes against the unwritten. Rules some sitting here and I'm trying to figure out now what do you want? Do you want your players to have personalities or not? Because you can't throw pitches that guys for flipping the bat ending before and then go on television and berate your best player because he doesn't show you any personality. I don't think there's any question about that. We can open up the phones at eight, seven, seven, seven, ten years. Eight. Seven, seven, seven, ten, three, seven, seven, six. Does baseball need to just have a summit right summit? That's actually the word I was going to use a summit of sorts to just let guys have emotion, and it was just in case. I mean, I know gals in major league baseball, but if there were planning for the future for sure and softball, let's do it too, but that's that's kind of the point when we play the world. Baseball, classic. I think more people tend to have more fun watching the game. They stick about this because of the type of excitement that there is at the game. The figure about this Tiger Woods would get being with the baseball bat or with every single time fist for sure, and that's golf and that's go. They're super hoity toity about tight about every question that the only if as you guys the only white player to show emotion that doesn't like the old school baseball. Bryce Harper. Okay. Do you remember when he was a rookie? He win against Cole. Hamels Cole hamels hit him after the game said, yeah, I hit him on purpose and they say why? Because I'm just trying to continue old baseball because some people are trying to get away from it. This is real. This is a quote, right and call him in two thousand twelve. He hit Bryce Harper as a rookie because he felt Bryce Harper was kinda player getting away from old baseball. So the Latinos there come over here and I agree with them being tripping off old American baseball. That they'd like to play baseball. Sorry, when I talk. The dismount basically. And if you ever go to a baseball game in the Dominican, oh my God, you wanna Rico, Puerto Rico, which you know I haven't. So you hadn't listed those. Those countries are diehard baseball party. Yeah, it's a party on there are specific their specific data on how disproportionate this is when it comes to Latino players. We'll give you that on the other side. Plus we'll hear from Nick Hundley. We do have the audio. I know you like the numbers. You like the facts and you wanted to hear from Hundley will have all that, plus we'll get people's thoughts on this. Does major league baseball need to address this in a certain way. Eight, seven, seven, seven, ten ESPN. Are you okay with what we did? Eight seven, seven, seven, ten, three, seven, seven, six. We'll get to all that coming up next..

"They got all glee yesterday between the dodgers and the giants coming together. The bench, his players and really no secret that it's going to be close to seeing wire are Madden camp a while. He was good enough, but after a few weeks, I'm starting to freak out upon the mistakes. Really. What else are he going to say to giving them the Miller look, they're having a joint practice. He's wearing a red jersey. You can't hit them. What is he supposed to say? What a play by Florence? Nice job. Those a good tarp that for team game team game. We want to get up live from the seaport thicket here. Seventeen brought to you by chase Jalen rose, who is a national treasure and was as well. And we're having a lot of fun this morning with a bunch of football stuff. She brought a bunch of football questions with her this morning, and we are asked answering them as best we can as our morning goes on time revving fund with really hard. You make me look bad, you know, request questions for parents. Is that where the bar is here showing up to the meeting. Reading the Email. Knowing what we're talking about. Who's going to be on the show. Jilin rollers, he coming on? Yes. Talk to you. Anyway. What we're doing. About this guy. Junior is be story of major league baseball. He led off a third consecutive game with a home run. He's the youngest player ever to do that. He's homered for the leadoff spot in five straight games. That's also a record he has hit home runs in is eight home runs in his last eight games. He's youngest player ever to do that. This kids out of his mind right now. Darius part is he's getting better. His stats are actually improving Cynthia starting, right. His strikeout rate has dropped twenty five percent. It's refine what he could become also young talent in the ATM. But I have some if I see a lot of empty sees, go to Adams, Ville grows park, go to Lakewood heights. Give away some of those tickets Braves, one at ten, six kunia has eight home runs since the council. That is more home runs than Jalen Tigers or than the giants even knocking my quarterback this morning. I asked them to bring this green bath again, the benches cleared in LA last night Yossi help we and giants catcher, Nick Hundley not seeing Ida. Both players would be ojected tweet said afterwards, that Hundley basically said to him, stop complaining it back in the box. And I guess that leads to this care. Prime baseball is trying to figure out why they're fighting usually something right. And we're like, what. Rule one. Yeah. What unwritten rule did they break may just be, I think more than anything if something that builds up, right? So this, it's like a fuse or or the pressure is and then his needs to burst and last night, this was the moment that made it first, and he seems to be in the middle of a lot of these league and that's a legitimate that he throws. That's the difference NBA understand you wanna do the homie back thing because that's how you mess up your right hand and all of a sudden your engine and get suspended for the rest of the game. It would not end well for the dodgers 'cause it never does. Their bullpen is a disaster. It's hard to believe they now lose five. Fifth straight game. It's Kenton. I e the culprit yesterday gives a single there to Alan Hansen dodgers lose to one. They've lost five straight games Meena they were either tied or leading entering the ninth inning and each of the last four that hasn't happened any team in four years. How important bullpen is in the postseason? Can you look at this pen and think this team is going to be fine all the way through sure. If they even get their third place in their division. Now the NF. Dell Steelers, quarterback bed rothlisburger in concussion protocol after sustaining a hit early in practice yesterday, you say, why the quarterback eight hit. Apparently on a goal line play, he was rolling right knee ran into his own linemen and he fell down and it was the ground that caused the concussion..

"The. Poncet home of the one one pitch that Cui files back creed, hotly Trump together. The bench, his players than really no secret that it's going to be close. Our Madden camp. I mean, I feel confident and both my knee team offense and everything down to what the doctor says. This. He's really accurate rookies here like little invade them a little bit and he's not having far. He's impressed me and I didn't want it to. Play by Florence? Nice job. There was a good tar bet for team gametime team damn. And good morning. Thank you for getting up with us on ESPN greenie Jalen meantime here once again back and so much fun that we had yesterday the today, we actually put it work. She is presented for us this morning list of questions going into the NFL season that we are calling. What's this Meena. Like that. And we had a lengthy debate this morning about whether it should be with or without the comma. What's this Meena or watch this Meena. And which did you prefer? I think the latter. What's this Meena? I think it's the better way. Matter of fact, we need to spend a little time the graphics department, making sure we got that exactly, right. But so seven thirty, we'll be the first time we do those this morning questions all morning long as we head into the National Football League season. Right now, let's get up and go brought to you by shell Pennzoil. Take your round the world sports busy day yesterday and begins with this kid. Ronald Acuna junior making history. The rookie last night, his first career, multi home run game. He's the youngest player in baseball history to hit a leadoff home run in three straight games and the youngest in history to Homer in five, straight games. Overall, this this kid is ridiculous. I love that. We can't just enjoy him. We have to say who's better Hamer, one set up because it's really amazing year contest. I don't have a choice right now. I think it's too close, but it's gonna be fun to watch. He's eight home runs in his last eight games, no twenty year old had done that in the entire history of the sport. By the way, the Braves won it by four, ten to six. Here is some of the numbers. Acuna eight home rawal really August. I, I'm sorry, Jalen. He has more home runs than your Tigers San Francisco Giants in this Allender month. Wow. Meanwhile, eight got ugly yesterday between the dodgers and the giants. These rivals, adding another chapter to the book of their dislike. That's help we Nick Hundley who will just get into it. It's not exactly clear after the game weeks, probably told them to stop complaining and get back into the box and Jalen. I guess that's all the takes for this to happen. No question about it. These teams, these two cities, but that put a matter tend to have these author cases not only on the diamond, but in the stands as well. And fortunately, yeah, ugly incident, this one on the field, not the worst that we've seen, but there was punches thrown out here is these teams. Clearly, there's one of them really do not like each other as for the rest of the game. I want to give you a stat on the dodgers that blow your mind. They have. Existed since eighteen eighty four when they were the Brooklyn athletics, and this is the first time after last night they've lost four straight games with each loss coming in their opponents final at bat. What we now call walk off wins or losses. Kanta Mehta the culprit this time gave the go ahead RBI single Alan Hansen, the dodgers go onto lose two to one. They've lost five straight. They blow four straight saves yesterday. Oh, they might be getting some relief roster going down, and that doesn't really look like release all its second verse same as the first and the dodgers have now fallen into third place in the west behind the Rockies beat Houston. Last night, Nolan are NATO with the big blow is thirtieth home on of the season of Justin Lander. It's the ninth straits home loss for the Astros who's leading the American League. West is just one game. Now over over over Hugh Oakland, excuse me. Houston's last home win was on July fourth heaven, this happen and what you have. Thou- starting pitching the way they do not be able to perform at home. It's just mind boggling..

"As they will renew that rivalry had again they'll be a four game series because i mean the big thing the giants dodgers are playing ten times begin the to begin the season and yeah they they played now six times they're dead even i believe right for three and three is that how it is giants they split the first series in los angeles yeah because it's three and three that's how they've only played six games so there's a four game series start split that only two games in san francisco last time and they split those as well so there's both they're even even stevens right now and they're gonna be playing for more this weekend double header tomorrow we'll be talking about both those games we're gonna have johnny cueto start as he looks to prove his er his leagueleading era even better as johnny cueto sitting right now at a point three five era well in front everybody else in that in the in the all of major league baseball i believe is anybody even underneath underneath one note quite got a point three five era next best is yelling garcia at even one point zero zero era so nobody in mainly baseball has a sub era in cueto healy missed i think missed one start he's he's had four starts to no twenty six innings pitched i mean that's that's darn good right there twenty three strikeouts with point six five whip and for those who don't know is walks hitch walks hits per innings pitched hopefully you do know that being listening to a baseball podcast but just let she has no there's lots of lots of different than i did my whole ransom what on how crazy bab is sometimes babbit batting average on balls in play what have you hit like five line drives and basically that's basically the lucky stat that tells you how lucky or unlucky you are like nick hundley example player out here his babbitt probably wasn't very good doesn't mean his.
