"We have to get the new trade agreement when that happens then I think you see in others boost to economic growth sustained the cycle we're in for a number of years because you've got sick certainty basically in in the world economy about trade with the United States and and I'm actually confident the president is able to deliver on that it's taken time the Chinese basically called called him on it and said no we think you have to have an agreement in name but we don't have to give you any substantive concessions and trump called in on an audible I'm yeah I'm not going to sign an agreement that mean nothing in reality but that says we have an agreement there has to be a real concession China by the way is hurting worse than the United States now they're more patient they're a dictatorship they can last through the next election cycle but I think it's also possible they'll get to the point where they see it as a win win to me this part wife was would you say today that the United States is winning the trade war I think the fact that it's up on the table that China needs to consider basically accepting intellectual property rights changing some of their fundamental business model they're saying no right now but but in the end it's it's clearly on the table for something they're gonna have to concede something on that's a win so we're we're still in the middle of the back and forth on the negotiation there's no clear winner one way or the other but the the possibility of getting a very good trade agreement is still there you are the culture growth has been participating in a special election congressional action North Carolina it's coming up early next month and I was just wondering to what extent is that contest going to be a test of some these national issues that we've been discussing here and and to what extent given that this is a traditionally Republican seat is there pressure on the party to to win this the come next month to your second question I think there is tremendous pressure on the party to witness the Kevin McCarthy's laid out a plan to retake the majority if he loses this it's it's a clear signal that that's going to be in a much harder left going into the next year we are coordinating with what we do in the super pac with what his super PAC does the the main congressional one both at entities are aligned with we need to win the seat we like them bishop the candidate he's a strong fiscal conservative Macready the Democrat is actually very vulnerable even on on non partisan issues because he won't answer questions and it looks like he's hiding from sought his liberal views and the voters there are starting to sense that so I think in one way you know every election for Congress has a local element there is people who they like and don't like in there but this one is starting to become nationalized it's going to be will a trump supporter Republican be able to win the what should be a Republican seat against a Democrat who tries to distance himself from Nancy Pelosi tries to but has been overwhelming support from radical environmental groups that are aligned with some of the most in the new green deal with the most radical elements of their agenda so I think it's a test will a mainstream conservative Republican who supports the president win against a Democrat who claims not to be a socialist as everybody else but in reality is supported by the same forces you tend to get involved correct me if I'm wrong more often in open seats but you also haven't been afraid to to challenge Republicans in primaries right this your strategy change now the Democrats are in control of the house of representatives are you defending more seats are you attacking more seats at the White House yeah that's that's a very good insight we still kind of reserve that that if there ever publican is acting more like a Democrat and there's a good free market conservatives will challenge a sitting incumbent but what we looked at this race is the goal of getting more pro growth candidates into the Republican conference so we started with open seats where there were Republican retirees and what about the normal phase for that we've identified some really good potential candidates there then we looked at democratic states where Democrats one but trump had carried the district that's a great challenge of race right because the the turnout will be more balanced and a Republican has a chance to win so will engage in the primary to get a pro growth candidate a good one who can carry that and we have had to be on the defensive and a couple races you know the Democrats have their target list of sitting Republicans that they think are still vulnerable one of them that we is a great candidate we think is going to win but he is going to be a tough race is Scott Perry in Pennsylvania so we've got a mix of all of those are one of my favorite races is gonna be the Virginia seven for Dave Pratt loss Democrats have a strong incumbent at we've identified a very strong potential candidate there Nick Freda's and believe that it could be a bellwether of whether Republicans can in fact that the majority back who are some Republicans that you think are acting more like Democrats it will you you look at some of them are retiring that one of them is the least defining who who's been put in charge of recruiting but you look at her voting record and she'll lines much more closely with the Democrats in Congress than with the majority of the Republican conference choose a likable person look for ideology are they committed to pro growth agenda and are they electable this is news makers on C-SPAN radio the guest is David McIntosh president of the club for growth we have five minutes Lewandowski enter that Centereach New Hampshire does he represent the kind of candid of the club for growth would support we haven't met with Korean and and we're going to and we'll find out after that interview I'd like to see what he's going to campaign on is it going to be fiscal conservative issues or is it going to be some of the social issues that we don't engage in one of the things that I find appealing about that is it would put the Democrats on defense in a Senate race everybody assumed was not going to be a race this year as when you think about it's always better to be on offense you've been making for us today right so the conventional wisdom is that if the economy strong the president be reelected right and that that is there is data going way back for a couple of decades multiple decades that that's the case so the economic issues always really significant important in the election but your point is a good one the court became a symbol on a lot of the social issues of because the court had driven issues on marriage issues on life that those the ones we don't engage in and the club for growth but I think president trump successfully harnessed that conservative momentum by taking really good potential justices and campaigning on that I see that happening again I I would project that one he'll want to make that another issue plus I suspect the Democrats will want to make a better view a central part of the campaign given what happened on on the last Supreme Court nomination where you saw a very stark divide between the parties not about competence and it ended up being about a character assassination but in the end I think the Democrats justified character assassination because they didn't want the principle of the conservative justice on the court is he should do it pick a strong nominee and the Senate should do its work to confirm that for me one more question each even involved in the concert of moving for some time one of the most prominent haven't that's our talk about is immigration which I know is in a sort of core issue for the club for growth but conservatives have in the past it especially economic answers conservatives business oriented Republicans have wanted you know strong immigration to to help feel the labor pool where do you.

but I have confidence they'll be able to get through that and and be a very strong organization one issue we haven't that's our talk about is immigration which I know is in a sort of course you from the club for growth but conservatives have in the past it especially economic conservatives conservatives business oriented Republicans have wanted you know strong immigration to to help feel the labor pool where do you see the current immigration environment in in is there room for still yet we've been waiting you know for a decade for some sort of comprehensive immigration reform that would reconcile these different interests that even people on the on the right side of the spectrum and you're right the club for growth stays out of the immigration debate in large part our members are divided in in the way you described it some believe in robust immigration at market for labor others believe it's more a national security issue the wall and that represents that so we don't take a position on that one way or the other the most interesting thing I've seen as an observer on this issue were remarks the president made recently that he was actually in favor of robust legal immigration but wanted to stop illegal immigration that's sort of a I was not really a compromise it's a different way of looking at that issue that gets beyond the current rhetoric of good or bad Waller no wall it puts together a more coherent approach that recognizes legal immigration is good for the country I was fascinated when I heard him say that and I think it could end up changing the dynamic of that issue your members are are divided on the immigration issue you don't take a position on it are there other issues where you take that same approach that they're divided on I'm yes the end it's less a division than just the discipline to stay on the economic issues we don't engage in social issues and marriage issues right to life issues in that from the founding of the club for growth and we're very careful to make sure we don't engage on those issues for example there a couple of gay Republicans who have very good records on economic issues my view is the club for growth can be very comfortable in North thing someone like that if they if they're the candidate who can win the race so we we at on the other hand as you know a lot of our candidates are very strong pro life champions and we're happy that what they do on the economic issue and they conclude that whole spectrum of conservative visit issues is what they care about we'll have to end it there David McIntosh president of the club for growth thanks for being our newsmaker this week it's great to be with you as always the moderator is C. span's John McCardell and now we continue with the round table portion of our program where with Alex Eisenstaedt of politico great quality of Bloomberg news outside is that the clippers growth known for its heavy spending on its packs and and super pacs what stuck out from you from what Mister McIntosh said about the the club's strategy for twenty twenty brother was kind of interesting what was that he was talking about the.

"He can rent space in your head. Anybody can. So it's almost like. Yeah. You know? Kevin durant? Well, do you know you Kevin Durant? Do you not special? You are you realize that all the answer? Larry nonsense. BS doesn't matter as long as you're playing ball high level. No, nobody cousins so you should be getting touches, and you should be able to try to figure it out. I love his analysis and breakdown, but it was almost like instead, Nick Freda L and the rest of the media there. It was almost like y'all know I am right. I'm Kevin Durant about well. Yeah. Yeah. Saying all it's all along the nonsense. Don't give me swear the nonsense and stuff that doesn't matter. Shouldn't count. It should just be about trying to win another chip silliness. Kevin durant? Yes. And act like it. And I worry about officials. He's on the precipice against the spend. If he has more technical, of course, Kevin Durant. Just like the rest of the warriors never found anybody in that starts what Steve Kerr, of course. Because Steve Kerr never followed anybody. So that is so that's a major issue there. So we'll see how this series goes. But at least it's tied at one in this interesting between the warriors and the clippers. All right, Tim Anderson. My guy, Tim Anderson Chicago White Sox. How about that into a full with the canc- royals? Also the cubs. Get the job done against the Miami Marlins. We address all that coming up next..

"To the first midwest Bank studio here on ESPN one thousand I'm Jeff mellow alongside Chris black this evening filling in for Jonathan hood. We'll be talking lots of sports, Chris. It's a great time of year. It's april. It means. We have the NBA playoffs. We have the NHL playoffs. We've got baseball. We've got Champions League action that will probably recap in the in the commercial breaks. Okay. Because I'm told that's not as big if you take a look at the TV numbers that would agree with that state. So we will talk about those in rate. So we'll talk about those matches in the break. But while we're on the air this evening. We'll be talking with meantime, are ESPN NFL reporter, she will discuss all things Russell Wilson and his monster contract. He's getting paid. Chris Meena is also a lifelong Seahawks fan. So she'll be able to break down. Russell Wilson the NFL force. She's excellent on the NFL. She is a great NFL podcast. On ESPN dot com as well. We'll talk with me. And then Nick for dull joins us at eight. Old Nick free. Dell a longtime friend back in his bulls beat reporter days now on to bigger and better things that are the Golden State Warriors who seemed to be collapsing before our very eyes after last night's debacle. Well, okay, let's let's stop with the collapsing. It was a bit hyperbolic. Yeah. It was one basketball game. And yeah, sure biggest comeback in playoff history. Thirty one points down the clippers were they came back. They win the game this one heading back to LA. Okay. Barca's cousins guy to boogie is out. Yes. Okay. And and the the thing about boogie being out is that now the warriors go back to being the warriors that they've been for the last couple of years winning back to back championships. So clogged down in trying to get him. His but gonna be able to go back to being basketball last night. Did not look good this season with the warriors have had this ability to sleep walk through games and kind of not show up especially at home for that crowd in oracle for the final few home games. They're going to have in Oakland before they moved to San Francisco. It's it's something to be worried about they're still the Golden State Warriors are still the favorites. Win the title. They still have two of the five best players on the on the on one team in the entire league on their team. Kevin durant? Steph curry both of those guys are healthy. I would not say that things are definitely going to fall apart here for Golden State. But it makes it interesting because it seems like and we'll talk with Nick about it. Eight o'clock, it seems like they're starting to be some fractions within the team whether or not there has cohesive as they used to be because everyone knows the impending free agency of Kevin Durant. This summer is is kind of looming over all of this and one that he has not really downplayed much. He you know, he has said he doesn't wanna talk about it. But the truth is that everybody's waiting his inevitable departure from Golden State. Let's be honest. Everybody's got an eye on the New York Knicks. They've got an eye on the Los Angeles Clippers and they're wondering if the rant will be playing his games after potentially three consecutive titles with Golden State of he is really willing to leave a three time champion and go off to what he believes might be greener pastures. Hey, and you know, what there's going to be a lot of guys top level free agents. And the one thing that nobody has written about or nobody talked about is this Kevin Durant leaves that means the warriors have cap space. So it's something to kind of throw out there in the back of your mind is that everyone keeps saying they're worried about drank leaving and what's going to happen to Golden State going forward will they could use cap space on someone else or maybe two players. Maybe a little bit deeper maybe a little bit more dangerous, maybe not more talent. Because Durant is clearly one of the three best players in the league. If you could say replace a Durant with Tobias Harris and someone else is that necessarily a worse off team going forward in the future for the team when they know they have to pay Draymond green at some point Klay Thompson at some point. So it'll be fascinating. We'll talk warriors with Nick for delegated. We'll do so. Yeah. And I do wonder you're right. It was a bit hyperbolic of them. Collapsing before before very is after you know that series is now tied at one. But I do wonder is this a precursor for when they do have to play a team like the Houston Rockets in the second round. Now truth be told I don't think anybody outside of the rockets in the west can beat the warriors. Now, maybe you disagree. Chris. Do you think you think the nuggets think the Spurs thunder? No, the only two teams, I think would give golden say a run would be Portland or Oklahoma City, and they're gonna one of those teams get limited this around. So whoever that is I think. That's the team will that will get to the conference finals. I don't think that is Portland. So it's all up to the health of Paul George hit Paul George is healthy, and he can get back to playing what he was in March. And you know, when I'm February January when people thought he could make a run pecan MVP. Yeah. For sure if that's what they're going to get from them. If Russell Westbrook can really turn it up notch. Because you know, the one thing with Ross is if you dare him the shoot he can then shoot himself out of games. So if he avoids doing that, and you get really good, Paul, George. That's the team that I think that could beat them if it's not the rockets, but you know, it's going to be it's going to be big to see Houston say in the second round. That's the series. Everyone wanted last year. That's what we got in the conference finals. That's what everyone suggests should have been the NBA finals like all summer. People kept going to the do we switched the MBA, but to a wonder sixteen format, so then we can make sure we get rockets warriors in the finals. Well this year we're going to get in the second round. I mean, I expected to be just as good just as explosive as we saw last year. It certainly will be interesting. I think of nothing else last night's game gives the unbiased objector a chance to look at a potential wars rockets game with that much more our series with that much more interest knowing that there are things going on with inside the warriors locker room that potentially makes them susceptible to other teams things that they may you may not have believed they were susceptible to in the past. So I am very much looking forward to the second round. If the warriors to what we all expected to do and advanced past the clippers so that we would like Nick like Chris said, we will be discussing that with Nick Freda coming up about eight oh five tonight at seven thirty five something that potentially down the road does affect the bears because Russell Wilson becomes the highest pay. He signed the richest deal in NFL history today agreeing to a four year. Extension with the Seattle Seahawks and he announced done this. Yeah. We got a deal. Almost more. Go to bed. Go to sleep. First questioning nights seen first question from Tyler first question was asked snort. Did you hear snort in there? Did you guys here? I just don't feel you guys here start Jeff if you could hit the sound by once again, please by request. Russell Wilson nounce his. Instagram. We got a deal. More. Go to go to sleep. Definitely. Okay. Okay. We figure that out. There was a snort in the video that was Sierra in the back was so the second question winded. Russell Wilson's voice. Get so deep. Anyone else? Find this strange. How deep the voice was. Nice way. That's all right. Your voice you have to have to knock down a couple octaves Nunu contract voice. Chris let me know that we have a deal when not sit on Instagram, you have to drop your voice just a bit lower to let the folks knew that. All right. You're in charge and the Seahawks bent to your wishes and caved to your demand. Make sure that they made their franchise quarterback happy. I just I I've never heard Russell Wilson sound like that and consumed many of his post game press conferences and areas throughout the years. Never heard him like that. And also never heard the snort can we confirm whether or not they came from Russell Wilson or Sierra. Like it was rushed to me. But I'll have to go back and watch the video to confirm. We watched a video. Felix shawl confirm that it was Russ in. That's but okay. So the question is I think the real compelling question is if you had recorded this and watch the back would you have re recorded it without the snort. It wasn't a live. It wasn't his story. He didn't just fair fair question. I don't know. Do you? Do you? Do you? Russell. When you're making announcement like that you leave it to chance and go live or on the grandparents. Recorded posts, they he put up there. Okay. Glad we figure this out. What I record because of a snort a mask and. Yeah, I think knowing if I signed that deal, right? Like that snort is worth the deal. Right. Like, I don't care. Signed this deal. I'm the richest quarterback in history. That's the I don't give bleep. Yes, I'm rich. You're not also has Sierra. Yes. In the low voice. Put her. You're smart, man. Louis Riddick was on get up this morning. He he talked about why the Seahawks gave Wilson the monster deal. What it means? They realized that regardless of what you think the quarterback position means to you as a franchise by that. I mean, there's no question. They are run Centric football team. They're trying to revert back to what they were two thousand thirteen to fourteen which means running over fifty percent of the time play ball. Great defense goes. Think about how you want to win football games mess around with a guy like Russell Wilson who even back in those years, effective thirteen and fourteen was a big part of your success. When it came time to bring into throw the football. He was gonna talk ten passer. He's a top ten pets pets percentage taking care of the football distributing the football factory. So if you if you wanna go ahead and take the air get Ralph as I like to call it and say, hey, look, you know, what we can always this draft another quarterback. And then execute the philosophy of we'll have a young quarterback contract pay everybody else. And we'll be great because that's the model that workers. Now. Go ahead. Mess with this one. But I think they realized that look. Even though we were we're going to pay him a significant part of our salary Kathy commitments kept him there still being thing called trapping developing..

"It's gonna all come down to that. It's a very competitive division. You see cracks elsewhere in the north this whole thing with the way the Packers lost. And there's some concerns about what's going on with some of the players in that locker room that helps the bears the Vikings losing at home to the saints is a is a killer. I don't think the lions are going to be a playoff team this year. But guys we've seen the lions play. Well, they beat the pain. Absolutely. Dangerous team because of their quarterback. So I think right now given what transpired against you England in Miami. And the way they lost those games there in the best possible place. They can be at four and three if they don't get the five and three that's a big concern in never want to say that anything's a given buffalo is a tough place to play guys when they're good. When the bills are good. It's loud there the bills mafia, and they get juiced up in the parking lot before the game. I'm not talking about orange juice. I mean, these guys are Ardian. What else do you do in that part of the world my apologies to my good friend marching Greco from buffalo? I mean, what else do you do besides root for the bills and drink? That's what these guys do. Yep. So it's gonna be it's gonna be a a nice atmosphere on Sunday. They should get the five and three and then starting next week cap. Jordan to me that's when the season really begins because you've got five division games your last eight weeks. All right last question, we got break. Gimme at the seven game. Mark. Foreign three letter grade on Mitchell in the offense. Well, Pat cap cap Trubisky in you know, that I like a lot of what Trubisky has to offer. And I have I am going to withhold ultimate judgment on him until after this season. However, there's been a lot of good. But there's also been some times when you're like. I I don't know. I think it's fair looking at the other quarterbacks. His contemporaries in the league. I'm not sure if Danny brought this up on the air yesterday. But, you know, look, it's okay. To think that there are parts of his game that he can improve on. When you see Patrick Mahomes about to win the MVP when you seem to Shawn Watson bringing back the Texans from the dead after Owen three start. I think it's okay to expect more from Trubisky. But right now, I would give him probably around a BB minus for his season for the bears. I would give them probably around to be. Plus, it's been a fun year guys. These are fun games to cover jets game was kinda doll. But for the most part they're in every game. It's exciting. And after the last six years, I I don't think you can ask for much more as a bears fan right now. You're one in this offense JD. Thanks, man. You're the best guys. Take care. Have a good day their yard guy. Jeff dickerson. Tonight. We'll go back to these calls three one two three three two three seven seven six. Don't forget coming up at eleven o'clock, Nick Freda L be in studio. We'll cross talk and play the game with Carmen York. Eleven forty five right back ESPN thousand.

"Endre night would have been a hometown hero for Philly to get all your Smith, and he has already suffered a serious injury which we see with every Sixers rookie for the last however, many years I can remember according Shams Sharabia then was pronounce his name wrong. He suffered a fractured left foot in Vegas during a developmental camp for NBA players number sixteen, pick in the draft out for the foreseeable future. I'm not sure how long it will take. We also note the Sixers medical staff handle things differently than maybe other places. So that might affect how long he's out, too. Bad luck happens all over professional sports, but it sure seems like the Sixers of had a. Massive dose of bad luck that they can't shake over the last few years here. You just left shaking your head. Sometimes when you read the last story that's come out of Philadelphia when you see what's happened with these prospects and their injuries, when you see the the front office issues that they've had earlier in the summer, the Sixers for all the, the goodwill in the hype and the optimism that they have gone through in the last year year and a half or so behind Joel Embiid. And now Ben Simmons for this happen for a team that went through the front office changes that they had and didn't Land Co. why, or LeBron or some big name free agent. If you're a Sixers fan, you've got to be thinking on, oh, this is more of the same. Well, we remember of course, both Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons were hampered by broken feet, and now you're Smith. So I guess you can say they're always getting off on the wrong foot. Oh. I will say, though is well, well, thought out point by Desmond's. Patrick Redford who said the only player that they've drafted during the process era that's played a significant chunk of this rookie season was Jalil Okafor. So maybe it's a good sign, right? The other two guys coming up injuries are a lot more successful. It's staying fit sarahspain, Nick Freda l. hosting and coming up the Yankees, get back on track last night, but that hasn't quote calmed the waters around the team will explain it.
