"To poke the bear episode 254, the Adam McQuaid episode. One of the most lovable likeable toughest Bruins there was number 54, Adam McQuaid. That is today's episode, I'm Aronofsky along to ride a Boston Sports channel, Connor how we doing? Evans very tired, but I'm doing well. Did anything happen on Wednesday? We're there were, there were a lot of moves mean. I don't remember anything happening on. Wednesday, me NHL World Cup? No, I don't think so. No, I just didn't sleep. Well, no, just tough night of insomnia. Yeah, yeah. No. I actually watched I watched signs. Then I came on my way. Frighten me though. Is that I'll play a little bit but, you know, persevere day-to-day putting into that stuff that stuff not much happened. This is not. What are we talking about? We're going to spend 30 minutes talking about nothing. Seems to be like a mushroom on movies. Yeah, yeah. Episode. That anyways, there's quite a bit to talk about free agency was Wednesday and boy. Well, I mean, it didn't disappoint. The sense that, it was very entertaining around the league. I mean, Philipp grubauer being taken by the Kraken. That was very out of left field. Dougie Hamilton go to the devil's. There were no big moves by the birth. When's accepted net, which will get to. But I had to write out a chart of all the additions and subtractions and question marks Bruins. Add just to go over things for people who maybe aren't caught up and we can kind of see where one the Bruins the day before on Tuesday signed re-signed Mike Riley three years three million then they started off free agency by signing Derek forbort two or three years three million left. Defenseman. They signed Eric Holla 2.375 million per year. That's two years correct? Years almost two years Tomas nosek, two years 1.75 million per Nick foligno, two years, 3.8 million / and then Linus earliness. Oh Mark or Uranus. Yeah, Lena. So Mark 4 years, 5 million and that's the net subtractions you they lost Sean kuraly to the Columbus Blue Jackets he gets to go home. Best of luck to him probably Nick Ritchie I know Kevin Paul Dupont had said that he was coming back but then I believe it was Larry Brooks reported that that Nick was looking at him. Yeah, you look to be someone that the Bruins were definitely going to keep and then didn't and then lost it damaged our as well. Best of luck to him out in Calgary for third round pick. And then the two big question marks, David krejci and Tuukka Rask, and the Bruins, currently, after yesterday, have a lot about 1.8 million in cap space. According to cap-friendly, which on days, like yesterday cap-friendly is as real and MVP. Is there as the goat? Yes, absolutely. As good as it gets. So there's a lot to take from this..

"Head in the northstars game in Minnesota and died so this award is named after him and it goes to a player and Nick Foligno was been nominated for before who exemplifies the perseverance of the dedication to the game of hockey and think of another guy who hasn't done that more than a finger yeah I have to ask he has really really he was doing so the the the hardest thing to swallow was I think I I don't know the last couple of games right before the holidays hit and then the jackets were then put on hold just like the rest of the league yeah they were doing pretty well but had began to slide a little bit and look if you want to try to you know the glass is half full with the Columbus blue jackets Seth Jones is back and he would know better than me with regard to a lot of the other Oliver Bjorkstrand back your strand a Kirby himself who was hurt he should be back all over very similar injury I have a load of had a little broken ankle both when it well they both suffer differently but up your family into the board or card at home and nationwide I remember that he was going for a yeah like kind of a like a break away like he yeah yeah and almost full speed slamming into the boards skates first so he should be back really everybody should be back with the exception of Josh Anderson and if the blue jackets are able to go away as in the playoff maybe even Josh Anderson enters the conversation branded Dubinsky is the other name that comes up all the time he will not be back I I would be surprised if he plays again frankly for the blue jackets that's not official that's just my feeling on it he's been out for more than a year wrist rest for your souls interest thing yeah chronic wrist thing and I just it would it would really surprise me if he would come back people would love it but it would really surprise me at this point yeah so with regard to the blue jackets in the you know we could end up being a hobby here when is all of that going to be are you hearing any time yeah I think we'll hear something within the next couple of weeks when they first made the announcement of the ten cities that were finalists it was two or three weeks away and now were you know well into that time period I really think Columbus has a good shot and it's not just the Homer in me that would like to see it happen I think that they've got the facilities here certainly they've got the the the Schottenstein center in addition a nationwide they've got medical facilities here that are you know it's hard to beat it really well when you consider the Ohio state hospitals the Ohio health group of hospitals children's hospital everything that they have your health care wise they've got all that and they've got a relatively low number of cases and a and a solid way of handling of the the corona here so far so I think in the end downtown they would house these players in the Hilton downtown so they could all walk to the arena that's easy get around easy get the Schottenstein center if they choose to use that I just gotta believe Columbus is going to be you know one of the top two or three choices if they can make it I'm doing for right now to other choosing people by and large believe that Vegas has got one of them nailed down because Vegas obviously has all the hotel space and there in that hot desert climate and I I think it's gonna be Vegas in Columbus if I had to guess I'd say it was going to Vegas I've been wanting to get your take on the struggle between Major League Baseball owners and the players because I'm mark and I are both in agreement I think we've kind of come to the sad conclusion that we don't think we're gonna see baseball the sorry I can't imagine a summer without sitting down at No nine thirty at night cracking a cold one up watching the Reds out on the west coast or whatever a I love that I love it it's just it it's summer and I can still hear the crickets chirp and doing that as a kid how fresh he is the situation and do you think there's any chance we will have baseball I don't know how Major League Baseball players their union and the owners in that group of owners look at the other sports the NBA the NHL the NFL even college football look at that in our in the in the situation that they're in there it's such an impasse right now over a relatively small amount of money I don't know how they can live with themselves and not have a wider realization of what they're doing to their sport look we all enjoy the game but I know plenty of younger people like baseball I wouldn't watch a baseball game if you paid me to watch a baseball game and they're going to lose an entire generation of potential fans over this nonsense they're nonsense not the corona nonsense I'm not talking about I'm talking about the way they're dealing with it and the refusal to give a little bit on both ends it is astounding to me that they may well kill their game and they're they're doing a pretty good job of it right now what we are talking about this yesterday if in fact it goes the the latest one was the season would end October thirty first and we were saying that you know on thanksgiving day you might be watching game three or game four of the the World Series and then switching it over to you you know full well you want to watch the lions you want to watch the cowboys to the Yankees Dodgers quite then you got college football going on at the same time in the NFL and the gradually baseball is going to fall way way back you guys know I'm a Minnesota Twins fan that's probably my number one pro sports teams that I root for and when the twins were in the playoffs a couple of years ago not last year but a couple years back maybe nine or ten years back and the Vikings were starting their season the TV ratings for the Vikings blew away the Minnesota Twins in the playoffs and those are the.

Tenney Penderyn scored to the empty netter to kind of clinch the Tampa based here as people say that that's as loud as they've ever heard that a reader you could even hear the canon this is again when you talk about it because I do I remember my feelings in there and it literally you could not hear anything that's that's how allowed arguments writing are how are crowded you know it's it's it's it's been talked about by thirteen other players in the league they could believe how loud our our crowd can get and I I hope to show them a lot more so ecstatic everybody in that arena when they when they can get back in there to make it just as loud again one day yeah hopefully next year we will have that now everybody back in next thanks so much for taking a few minutes for us and look forward to seeing you guys back on the ice let's keep our fingers crossed and stay healthy man thank you to always enjoy my time with you guys thanks so much all right that is blue jackets captain Nick Foligno love talking to Nick yeah great as he said still out there yet they're still hurdles that we got a clearer but it does look like the NHL phase number two is in progress and we can get there sooner.

"No there was a high five with his daughter in the yes they did elbow bump messages also posted yesterday by Ryan day and blue jackets captain Nick Foligno from the central I wanna dealer sports desk could use radio six ten W. so many ways the corona virus and what the shut down of school shutdown the businesses is affecting us obviously health wise but also in the economy big time and we're seeing it every day all Wall Street Jeff Heyman is a professor of economics Cedarville university joining us this morning professor Amy thanks so much for taking some time for us I I I gotta ask and I don't I don't even know you know the advice you get is you get your four oh one K. statements and we're going to be getting up it's going to be ugly R. for some time what advice would you give people as they stress out looking at their retirement numbers going down and down during this period yeah this is a really tough issue because if if anybody's place they're hoping their four oh one K. or retirement plan obviously those hopes in in large degree have been diminished by this but that may be an indication that we've got our our hopes and installs areas and speak I mean I think it's important to take a big picture look at this you know when you think about the overall stock market it's it's going to continue its its downward trend I suspect certainly is this mornings are scheduled to what stocks are are still even right now US stocks are still far higher than the average price earnings multiple which is one measure of valuation then then over the previous hundred your current stocks have been very richly valued and it's only natural when you have eight eight something like this that's a true black swan event that you're going to see stock valuations come down to reality a little bit we were we were at lower levels than what I expect even today happened when Mr trump took office it was just a few years ago it is not like this before the end of the world that I I should suppose your your viewers or listeners would not have thought that they were gonna have the end of the world you know four years ago financially so it's just you may have lost some games now markets go up they come down we've been on I'm disciplined enough and expecting that we're going to have always upward movements in stock markets and something like this which is a true you know it's it's a once in a generation kind of black swan event it's going to take a guess but we'll come back from this on the other side they there will there will be another side to this in the encouraging thing for all of us is that that even now businesses are doing things individuals are doing things to to try to become efficient and how they can get some things done while many things are shut down their create really coming up with new ways to meet to to get things accomplished I suspect on the other side we will be a stronger economy but a different economy a lot of all right now stimulus packages president trump is talked about that there's been talk about giving Americans you know a thousand dollars to try to try to get the economy going as we get through this will things like that work generally I'm I'm not a fan of those kind of things because right now we really don't know the extent of where the damages and what's gonna be done I think that the the near term best things that that the government can do is come to make sure that people have the essentials covered I mean people should be thrown out of their apartments are not being able to make their rent payments and utilities those kinds of things but but what we should be thinking about I think is the longer term how do we target that stimulus to be where it can have the most good part of this it is a concern of course is we had a real we are in the middle of a real ongoing economic downturn that negative off fallout has to land somewhere and the question is where's the right spot for should the taxpayer have to bear the brunt of this not clear to me all the taxpayers should have to evolve this it's not clear to me the also the people that have just been living their lives shouldn't get some help but we have to be very intelligent how we do it in the near term we should try to sustain things as as we are trying to keep people in it and at least at a situation where they can go on for a while but then we can think longer term customers in my opinion of course the political pressures are such politicians are paid to do something I've spent quite a lot to continue happening in Washington DC yeah amis "Kind of reverse because don would be more Having my take on this thing because And just getting away from the the impression for a second second here I think Felino by the way I guess. I'm probably call it a little bit in terms of my thoughts about fully annex as a best guy ever. He's really nice guy and he's never been suspended before. And if you watch Belmar Skates so basically what happens is it's around the Blue Line Bell. Mars got the PUCK and Felino comes. He's he's guys tracking them at this stage of the game and Skate Direction. Always tells me a lot and I see Belmar Kinda dig in and cut toward toward the middle of the ice. It looks like he's going parallel to the Blue Line at the very last second. He kind of cuts to Ward Felino. I I think it was entirely accidental. I I don't think I think Felina was looking to line up with good solid hit but I don't think that he was trying to get him in the side of the head with his elmo. If you WANNA GO THAT WAY Steve We've about changing direction the offensive guy. A look what. I'm watching right now. If you WANNA use that as example all sold it Felino okay. He skating left and when he sees that guy turn Graham he puts the brakes on Stevie interns right. So he's as much at fault if you're well he's asking about that stage. I think I mean it's well so is the other guy right. The other guy is going to try and break left a little bit to his left and Felino you know breaks back to his right Steve He. What the elbow? He went up with his elbow and he jumped he. Didn't you know people are looking at this thing and I'm watching it to say well. No he got tripped and went way up there. He leapt leaped Stevie at the guy and he brought his elbow dirty play man. Yeah I mean I think uh I think we can agree that it's it's it's a hockey play in that You know came even if if if you're right and there was some intent there it's still in the context of a hockey game versus what happened with Lucia which I think the message the NHL is really trying to draw those like. We don't care how it happened. All we know is it happened and you is. The hitter are responsible whether it was intentional. Not Intentional as the hitter. It's up to you to not make contact with a guys freaking head. Yup If you don't suspend them Steve You know look at that video and say okay. This is allowed in hockey. But this guy so you got to suspend them otherwise you're gonNA have guys running at guys jumping with their elbow up in the air. He clearly he he clearly brings his elbow up. Stephen takes with the guy with the elbow. I know I know what the video says. I just look at it and again considering history considering the veer at the last second by the player who was hit. I just feel like there was sort of body reacting like something happens at the last second that Felino didn't expect and stuff like that happens. Your body does things. I don't think that the the whole intent of the thing was going to get that guy in the head with my elbow he did and that and the NHL is not only that we talked about but down the road when say Belmar is part of a concussion lawsuit against the NHL. One day He could he could say well. This is how they were treating headshots at the time. There were no suspensions for things like this. That's why anything that involves head contact the. Nhl is now going to always err on the side of caution and right they have to they have to I. It was dirty the elbows dirty. You know what Steve Coincidentally when this stuff happens during the week okay. This happened last night right Mondays. Couple nights ago or a couple of nights ago people would tune in to say. I wonder what grapes is going to say about this. That's the shit you know what I mean. This is the stuff where it goes all week. Back and forth suspensions too much too little bub-bubba people are gonNA go. You know what. Here's here's the guy who knows what they should do right. It's all right. They got your impression of them now. So good yeah it's done there stevie okay of a tough hit there but it got the Albert Cement Pad. You don't think about that Steve. Yeah okay things are made a fricking cement stop doing that. We must take our leave Don. You're ready the joke of the day. Steve I am one of the great things always is. They look after their players. They always did in retirement a lot of them so they made them scouts or or ambassadors of the team or on coaching staff. Or something you know. And when the rocket retired Rocker Rashard retired. They weren't sure what to do with them the they weren't GonNa make him a coach and so what they thought they would. Try Is You know what we're GONNA do. WE'RE GONNA put rocket in the booth and we're going to let them pick the three stars us at the end of the game. Steve Right Nice not a bad move so the first night they do this. The game ends and Montrose Twenty Chicago and the game ends and they go to. The rocket rocket is time for the three stars and he goes all right tanks a lot. You guys all right. Here's the deal tonight. Unbelievable Game Job Belvaux VO number four the guys so good big president on the ice. You've got no point no point but lots of minute you know. Play hard all the time I star a second star Okay Yvonne Conway Okay. The guy is so good to get a point tonight. Okay one two three head. "Okay you can't you can't you might might be time to freshen up that segment anyway. And it's going to happen now because Don's not there and he was the nuts nuts in that thing. There's no one like Ron Ron MacLean. Either for his knowledge and unbelievable you know charm that the guy has and and how fantastically literate. The guy is and stuff you know. He's he's an knowledge right. He's unbelievable but you gotta get away from it. Okay you're never gonNA get grapes. The worst picks Brian Burke. I've given them a chance. You know I've been watching. He's just too too much of a low reactor to me. He's he's he's not animated enough. You know his his very monotone. I don't know if he's he's probably sincere but it just doesn't appear sincere to me Because of his physical sound that this guy makes you know So I he would be the wrong pick right now for me. You know. I always think of I was Jeremy Roenick. He got some twitter for sure. Yeah that say anything. They tried Brad Hall at one time. But I don't think you want wants to do it. You know he likes the game game too much. He loves the game too much and is a huge supporter of the players. You know all the time so I don't know they'll they'll be a million guys. I guess that they can run through their To do this thing but the maybe coach's corner collapses maybe they come up with another name. Ron is going to be the anchor of it for sure. I would think he's just way too good. There's no one likes him but it might be time to have a complete departure from from what it was. You know maybe go panel two or three guys you know but don't freak out people that there's no coach's corner anymore. You remember when the hockey night in Canada theme remember. Remember that thing into was about two weeks of conversation when we're in radio but but on and they took it away for awhile and now it's back but but it doesn't have the well well it's back on Tsn it's basically CBC has Well they've divested themselves of it and they've got a pretty good theme themselves but it's not hockey night. In Canada the theme go roenick would be would would be my pick off the top of my head. There's so many that I'm just going to blow through the suggestions and just a a massive. Thank you to everybody. Who responded Don Cherry or? I'm not watching F- Sports Net I won't watch no matter who it is I say. APGA's stock. Brian Burke Mike. Commodore I say we kill it. ALTOGETHER ABOUT SNOOP DOGG couple of votes for him. Jeremy Roenick get some Biz nasty gum. Just an coach's corner bringing something innovative as was the case when grapes developed the segment in the first place. Steve Buscemi the actor. He'd be great. I think that would be funny. This crazy is got Dan writing kill it never be the same. Can't get a do over such bring back the Peter Pock cartoon. I love that when I was a little kid. I remember that Ed. The sock is getting a vote. Here Kelly Rudy or or one of those you people people another one from my Commodore Wade Redden. Okay Pierre McGuire gets some love. Uh if it's if it's George snuffle up against I swear to God. Buck Burgess writes. Do they mean Stromboli comes enough left. That's funny you and Liam McGuire both got some some love as well who did you Liam McGuire. Of course I'd love to try. Here's a Guy Steve. I just thought of that that this this is going to snowball this. This is going to have a bit of a viral effect for it. And no one's brought his name up Kelly chase would would be a fantastic is to gain that segment. I'm not dismissing it. I don't know I don't think I know what anything about him. What would he bring to? The table was the Saint Louis. Blues Guy Right and I know him but I've never heard talk. Oh He's he's the best he's the best. He's super funny I I know him well over the years I met him. And we've become friends and we ended up doing gigs together. And I did a couple of gigs in Saint Louis for him He's he's emotional guy. He's very outspoken. Very outspoken spoken. I've seen them not sitting in I. I've been sitting in circles before where there's like. Mario Lemieux Bret Hall remember. Mike Weir was there Wayne Gretzky and someone else you know like powerful powerful guys okay as athletes as Canadian athletes and Kelly Chase was there okay. so He'd be the one of these things is not like the other okay. He was a tough guy right. He was a big fighter in the league and he took these guys. Aw Aw I've seen guys trying way in when say Wayne and Mayor R. Jousting back and forth or talking about hockey it's just riveting right right to be lucky enough to be sitting there in a chair listening to these guys and all of friends of mine who will weigh in and elbowing them going. No you shut the fuck up right right now. You're not gonNA and and yet Kelly Chase was was the very outspoken couple times. We did that. Vegas GIG for years and and He was lively. And you know very vocal about a lot of things. He'd be a fantastic guy fantastic to have on there. That's my vote. Kelly Chase Fair enough. The web.

"For him to immediately step down during the broadcast he made remarks that do not represent our values or what we stand for and then it was A nice kind handshake on the way out here. Don is synonymous with hockey and has played an integral role in growing the game of the past forty years. We would like to thank Don for his contributions to hockey and sports broadcasting in Canada I think pretty clear in there that There was a further discussion and According to sports net he definitely did stick to his guns and did not want to recant. What he had said the hilarity about that that statement From the station and saying you know his his his remarks are not how we like to characterize ourselves or any of our sponsors right or any of our viewers right. That's the guts so their response right. We don't WanNA characterize characterize ourselves that way so this is a good time for dont`a leave so don't you know the the reason leaving is because of that. That's why he got fired right on day. One we were. They're missing the boat. Here Steve The guys started doing this in nineteen eighty two. I think okay so yeah. It's like three years short of frigging forty years. There have been many times that I recall over the years. That Don Cherry. It has been doing what he's doing on coach's corner and traveling the country and speaking and and doing a bunch of other stuff He's incredible speaker by the way I events emceed a few gigs. where he's the keynote guy and he's he's fantastic? is they often often. We're pretty proud. Of How don characterized characterized the station. Okay and they were sure proud. That Don characterizes himself the way we see our viewers and that we the way we see our sponsors. There's many times many times don is done things about you. Know profiling on minor hockey on parents. Who've who've that long long road of apparent with a kid who makes it to the NHL? He's done many many things where the station liked it so easy easy announcing announcing this is not how characterize ourselves maybe by statement but I don't like what they said there because Don did way more good way more good then and I don't think even harms anybody yesterday you know. Some people were offended by. I just think you're reacting overreacting so well. Well I mean it's not like it's been a clean sheet. I would say you're right. I mean his career was one that you know. A guy like me could only dream of right I I'm effectively in the same business. You know talk and sports and And all that. I was a minor hockey coach so I get the coaching love as well and loving a the sport itself obviously you know obviously nothing but Admiration for the career. He put together both as a coach and and as a broadcaster but it's not a clean sheet it either in that he does he has had a history of saying needlessly stereotypical things about women about European rippin players in probably some other examples that I'm not don't have at my fingertips here and so there is a history there that probably played into the overall overall decision making here and not to mention. He's eighty five years of age. So this is all played. I think into the into the discussion. And let's also look at. You know Rogers are they. They really broken up about this. So this is an organization that just blew out a bunch of guys at sports net. You know Bob McCowan John Shannon Doug Maclean. I'm Nick Caprio and it's all in money right because Rogers way overpaid for that. NHL Deal and Ron Don Cherry is another big financial cog in that wheel that I don't know if there was a lot of tears shed over this whole thing and maybe there was a i. Don't know but Bart yobs Lee but some other people that wear ties and wander around in suits sports net. That are absolutely thrilled. That Don Cherry was the architect of his own demise. Yeah you know the other thing is again. Most of the people don't really give a shit about Don Cherry can't they. Don't what do you mean it. It just doesn't you know it's not like it's not like don worms their heart. It's not like he was a character right. Don became a character on ATV completely animated completely hilarious with his mistakes laughing at the wrong time. And he's been accused of all all that stuff but it was must see tv for a long time. You GotTa admit absolutely absolutely I care from that perspective and that he he meant a lot to me that segment a lot to me. 'cause yesterday today to start at the episode I played the coach's Corner Music and as I'm listening to the thing on my wow every time I hear that music brings back a lot in his stallion. Really League good positive feelings. And that's largely because of the character Don Cherry was all those years and used to be a feature that I would absolutely never miss even in the early days of the sends like all the all the media that covered the sends on a regular basis. We would all gather in the press box after the first period ended for this ends on Saturday night and wander over to the TV so that we could see what Don Cherry had to say because he was on it was almost like he was a newsmaker with everything that came out of his word hole and it changed a lot in the last ten years when he kinda lost his fastball. Right but the Don Cherry was the great combination great combination first first of all Canadians or known for our honesty and our politeness and all that stuff to to other people who Americans primarily. and Don have this fantastic Combo of first of all these credible hockey wise. He's coached played WHO's in NHL. So so he's got that okay. You got to start with that okay. You got to start with that. So he has then. He becomes sort of fallible right with some of his shit that he said at oftentimes. Don Cherry appears illiterate. When he makes takes right it's like what did he say? And what did he make up and stuff. So now. You've got this guy who's not even embarrassed by that so now you've got a real guy now you've got a real guy and then you get a guy who comes on and says that guy is soft that guy if he keeps that up he's not gonNA play anymore in the NHL that guy's dirty. That wasn't a dirty hit that guys don't worry about. He's just knocked out like you said the other day. So he's got the perfect combination of knowledge of self deprecating and of not fearing about doing any make any mistakes by brutally brutally honest and hence almost almost forty years. That's all people want. Obviously that's what they want. He was he was a hurricane when he first came in. Because you know he was a scrappy player he loved a scrappy scrappy game. I mean his old Boston Bruins had just one fighter after they were broad street bullies but man. They had a lot of guys on that team. That could fight and that's the kind of style he liked the the whole rock them sock them thing so the guy had energy to burn. He liked to be everything to be. you know flamboyant outlandish and all that and that really played into the Canadian hockey psyche. When that guy showed up and started that coach's corner thing he was saying things that really we'd never seen before because every hockey broadcaster to that point had I've been really straight laced playing things close to the vest and then all of a sudden guys guys nonsense out there guys in Moroni's you know and and just wow this bully? Almost that was on the air. All of a sudden just ripping everybody to pieces and being brutally honest about everything and that struck a chord with Canada. Yeah he's like he's like he's like your goofball buddy you know everyone has. Everyone has a friend. That's frank you know what wh- Frank Do. This time well showed up for for a party Dressed in a penguin fit. You know it's like yeah that's frank you know. You're my Frank Frank Jim. You're my frank right. So so that's grapes right. He never he started wearing these suits right. That were terrible there Godley audie. They're stupid really done. The caller the net color. Are you kidding me with this stuff right with just a terrible terrible looking outfit. The guy never wavered never waiver from it every day shows up looking like an idiot steve he does. It's true. It looks like a goof. You know your goof right and so people love it in the end you know in the end you know. I went to university with a guy. Jed My Buddy Jeff Dixon who listened to the show. I'm sure friends. Will you know this guy was hilarious. He was absolutely hilarious. He'd show up in cost. Cost you just to go to school. We went to Carlton. You know one day. Be Captain Kirk like he did the whole entrepreneurs what what are we celebrating an anniversary. She start no no no no. I just want to be Captain Kirk for a week. Let's see what Steve was great. The next week he'd show up wearing a Poncho and Anna flat brimmed cowboy hat. Like and he'd He'd pay top this facebook makeup so it looked like the beards that everyone wears. Now you'll get a scruffy beard and have a cigarette. You could smoke around school then because he wanted to be. Clint Eastwood Nice Bad and the ugly one of the Classics Classic Looks. Yeah he was. He was sort of our goofball. Buddy you know hilarious Guy Hilarious. And that's a great source. So he became he became everybody's goofball. Paul Buddy Steve is what he would you know. This is my friend Don Cherry. He's he's he's Goof. Yeah he's my brother. Wade is like eleven years younger than me and he got like every single rock them sock video on Vhs as they came out it was an annual Christmas present. And I think a lot of people are like like that. You know those who grew up loving hockey And that that really galvanized what happened on Saturday night. Getting those videos and watching them again and again and again that was part of his fame as as well. Because it's not easy to become as famous as as Ron Maclean. Did our story is Don Cherry. Did for ten minutes once a week on Saturday night they they had the greatest Canadian poll remember that about ten years ago I think Tommy. Douglas was number one right grades. Canadian poll Don Cherry beat out guys. That were just like Wayne. Gretzky and A number of other Canadians. They say. Wow they'd be higher than Don Cherry would think but this was greatest Canadians as voted on by Canadians. Cherry way way up there. Yeah it's like it's like Walter Gretzky you know. This guy is beloved around the world and the reason is because he was so honest. He's so nice is eve. He felt like he feels like he's everybody's father you know if you're Canadian right. Everyone wants to take claim. You know I live in Canada. That's that's my Walter Gretzky. And that's my Don Cherry right. That's my buddy. That's my buddy because tons of people would would would would be like Don Cherry. You know who who aren't celebrities away from it. Yeah I know a guy buck and he doesn't give a shit he's louder than other people he's he's a big endorser fighting at a time when they're trying to get you know player player. Safety is at an all time high or the awareness of its. He's he had all that combination. And that's I don Cherry for the same reasons. Is everybody else did yeah. He's a big pushback right now. I mean they're they're all kinds of petitions going on right now there's a lot of hashtags going around like f sports net and so this thing isn't necessarily over you never know I'd never say never but it looks like it is the end for Don Cherry on coach's corner and our web poll today as we move forward if they decide to keep the same intermission format after the first that they have right now which is basically Ron Maclean. Lobbing topics us to an analyst. Who would you most like to see now in the Don Cherry Roll? Well first of all. You can't replace IT I. I'm not you know everyone is replaceable. But you'll never ever be able to find someone like Don Cherry so if find sports net you gotta get away from that right away..

"Stuff that don did. That's his take on that. That's his take on that and I still like all I look at this thing is. He did nothing wrong he did nothing wrong. The the outpouring of someone saying and the other stuff that's happened to this thing is you know I've seen a couple from people of color. POC The OC is the short-form learnt this morning reading a bunch of this stuff. You know and saying I'm a person of color and and I think don sets the the whole conversation conversation back one hundred years you know and I couldn't think of anything more over the top than that reaction you know first of all all you're talking about immigrants not all immigrants are people of color right come from Italy. There's lots of white immigrants. So so that's that's just a stupid tick and he didn't do any of that. You know I just think the reaction to it is over the top. I think The people who are xenophobic. And all these things are saying that Don Cherry is not any of that. He's not any of that at all and you know. I just don't think I just don't think it's that big of deal. What he set? And you can kill me on that if you want. But but he's not setting immigration and you know and and the conversation on immigration. He's not setting it back in my mind. You know he's he he if he could take it back you probably would. What no because he had a chance and he didn't so I admire him for that? Actually you know that he's like I just tweeted he's no sell without. I'll tell you that and there's a lot of reading into this thing right so it's reading between the lines. It's people like you said putting words Don Cherry's mouth. I think we all have a pretty good idea. I shouldn't say that. Because you're you're you and lots of people don't feel that way I feel like I have a pretty good idea on what he was so what he's getting at but it still open to interpretation and that's why Don Cherry just did himself such a big disservice. I think he's still. He could've kept this job he could have been right back there. Saturday night clarifying things. He could have clarified things in the media this week but he chose not to. He chose not to clarify like the whole. Like there's a there's a lot of people on well Steve Certain up. He did clarify no he. I'm saying he didn't I don't think he understands. Truly why I people are really upset. I got his quote right in front of me here. Hang on a sec year So I've just learned been fired by sports net for comments. I made on coach's corner or no problem. I know what I said and I meant it. Everybody in candidates should wear a poppy to honor our fallen soldiers. I speak the truth and I walked the walk. I visited visited the basis of the troops into Afghanistan with our brave soldiers at Christmas. been to the cemeteries of our fallen around the world and honored our fallen troops on coach's corner to keep my my job. I cannot be turned into a tamed. Robot what he needed to clarify somewhere in there in a statement is what he's getting at when when it comes to all you people and you come here and enjoy our way of life and and give us some clarity on on where you're going with that and maybe explain to people what you're trying to explain forum Jim Because you're you're taking the high road with this guy and you have you've obviously given him the benefit of the doubt. Now that's great so now it's his turn to step forward and Sakes genesee and they're that's exactly what I meant but he didn't well when I say clarified. He he responded yes. He responded but didn't respond to the thing. That's the people are angry at really well according to that of course and Really my gut reaction Steve My gut reaction and and this may not serve me. Well but lighten up people lighten up. That's reasonable. You gotTA lighten up about this thing. And Ironically Steve that people who are weighing in on this thing saying Don has this divisive thing that he's divided the from one group into the next he singled singled out of a group of people. Yes he did yes he did but what he told them was where poppy you know again. And he didn't he didn't say you don't belong here. He didn't say. Go back to your country all this all this hateful shit they see on their you know by people saying weighing winging go. Hey I'm a I'm a person of color and I'm an immigrant. My parents were immigrants and we spent forty bucks in poppies. What they're really doing? Steve is separating themselves from other people. Ironically you know they're saying I'm in this group and yet that's the same thing. They're crucifying Don Cherry about. Is separating separating group the red herring in this whole thing is any any talk of military in the poppies and all that stuff I think in general could have been pretty much anything it could have been you know a make a donation to the cancer society You know you people who come here and enjoy our way of life and our hospitals you know you know all at least you can do is get out there and make a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society I. It's just it's just because he just chose to randomly and it wasn't like it was. The topic was on the table. It wasn't like Ron Maclean. Had Been Speaking of immigrants to that point in the conversation and you know where he goes. Okay you know what and on that note about emigrant's and and we're we're of course talking about this on Remembrance Day you guys you know I'd love to see you guys you know you know where more poppies than you do. And then massage it further by saying and that applies to everybody by the way but by his words alone. Steve is saying where poppy. Here's sing everybody. Where poppy although he reminded the singled out this group? And and I'm fine with that not not because I have anything against that group. I got no problem I talked about yesterday. It's it's the same thing if we're talking about gay rights or the environment or or Quebec separation. You know you know that if you come here you gotta learn French you people you. English people have to learn French becoming. I never had a problem with that. I never thought that singling people blowed according to a lot of takes with Don Cherry said that same take makes you a racist makes makes you You you know unbiased. Opinions or buys opinions about stuff right now and I just don't see that I. I really got to lighten up. What he what he did? I'd agree with that. I think that's the the area where we can agree. The most and that people need to lighten up on this thing. It's it it's something that he said in my belief. You don't think there was anything wrong with that I do but I also don't think it was anything more than like an apology and explanation and I think that you know if we're For a gracious society like we claim to be. I say. Forgive the guy for something like that but people just pile on like just stabbed a little kid or something. It's just not that serious. It's serious but not that serious and it doesn't set it doesn't set the world back. It doesn't fifty years any of that ship. He doesn't he's not dismissing that. Your grandparents fought in the war not doing any of that shit any of it when we come back on the show. I want to pick apart the sports. It's net statement. That Bart yobs lead. The President is sports net. Put out there We'll also get to our web poll and it's basically talking as we move forward. Who will be you? Don Cherry's heir-apparent on hockey night in Canada. So stick around for that in the meantime here's your. WPA heads up for November thirteenth presented by all Insurance Ontario. It is your forecast for November thirteenth. We have a mainly clear day today. Little on the windy side high minus seven wind. Chill chill at times in the morning. They're saying around minus twenty four. That's chilly enough. Sends are going to be taken on New Jersey and the leafs are getting it on.

"Winter. Okay there's one thing that trump's at all all the time they'll go like this but look at the snow fogle minus thirty. No Yeah but you you can get out with your kids at what minus thirty. That's your headache minus thirty Steve. Okay by it. Got So coulter Steve. When I when I moved to Edmonton in the mid eighties people thought I was not? You know people didn't know you too much of a out. West was out west. You know it was out there There was nothing going on until the others came along. Right and that that you you know made people tune into Edmonton you know not not solely because of that but that's a huge part of putting Edmonton on the map To think where they were and where they are now well you know what. The airport is unbelievable expanding all the time but when I moved into the eighties people were worried for me with the weather her and I said well. How bad can it be you know? And it's it's the difference here here is you'll you'll get minus heavy heavy degree. Their minus twenty minus twenty. Five right off. That's not uncommon for Ottawa. Right get those cold but west just not as much anymore thirty years later but or thirty five years later but when it would get cold Steve minus twenty five or thirty. It would stay like that for three weeks. There was never a break. It wasn't like a two day cold. It was just it was unbearable. How is it how does it compare to Sudbury which is where you did? Your childhood growing up like I got a couple of sisters in law up in Sudbury and it was It was pretty damn miserable the times our is up there how does it compare to Edmonton well. If you look at a map it's way up north. It's way up north. You like Evanston compared to where you are is like into Hudson's Bay is into James Bay there and Hudson's Bay degree of latitude. It's like super cold super cold. It's off aw so there are two stories i. It was so cold when I left mostly equipment and I bought a pinto out. Of course she did. I bought a pinto station wagon with the plaid seats in the the big cracked plastic steering wheel little thin wheel and You know I used to. I bought this car and I bought it in the winter. Steve Across the street from a bar that drank the old sidetrack and a this is the decision I made. Steve after my big pontificating kidding here about the beautiful side of winter and the guy told me I was drunk when I bought it. Okay I walked across the street. It was for sale L. A. Little garage because team from the bar and I needed a car and the guys who can give me give me fifteen hundred bucks or a couple of grand or something and he said it does so I bought it paid for it. Signed the and then he said Yeah just small thing but there's no block heater I said right. There's no black eater so I had to. I had to boost this car lot and then eventually a former friend of mine told me how to heat up the block so I parked his car somewhere for the for the evening at a bar. And then I'd have to get out routine. Stevie out of metal lid from garbage can't like one of those big big garbage cans that you put out on the sidewalk you know. One of those deals a metal it from that and then you put briquettes in there you light it on fire. Okay you let you let the Coles calm down and then you slip it underneath the engine okay and and you put a little cardboard around the front here car. In the sides and it heats the block sound safer on a combustion engine well a periods of farmers trick when they're they're combines would be left out in the field they can't they they don't have a two and a half Mile Cord to the plug in Steve Right so that to come up with some right and so that's what I did so the problem with it was I would go. The bar have have a bunch of POPs and say well. I can't drive So I gotTA leave the car. They're so my car ended up staying at at a bar for five consecutive days and I went back each day to to warm it up to do the briquettes so I'd get back there at noon. Got The guys. What are you doing man? The king bag of charcoal and the land is looking at me. You know spreading it out there. I got the lighter fluid late steel and then it would come down and put on his own laws were here. We gotta wait forty five minutes so you might as well go in and have a couple. Well I had too many Stephen Go home again this group. That's for like five days Mike. My car stayed there. Hang on. He didn't tell you didn't you didn't violate some sort of bylaws and nobody ever kmart around this open Barbecue pit thrown underneath your Pinto in the middle of downtown Edmonton. It's not eighty eight. Nobody at the issue of that. Yeah Cops said to me he goes. I've never seen anyone camp during the winter cuts and anyway. It was so cold that I needed a push one time. Okay I need a little push to get my car sort of pushed down the alley a bit bit so I can get it lined up to to get a boost and guys were pushing my car and yelling at me that I had the break on put a neutral in. I said I don't know the break. Oh the the wheels were frozen Steve frozen okay they will rotate minus fifty two or something with with the guy was the coldest day on earth minus fifty two. Steve was. This was after one of your charcoal sessions. Maybe melted the ice around under tires. No it's pre pre chuckle but to two things I would lose my mind Steve. I'd have to do this again about the Shitty car and I did one time. It was it and I slammed the hood down forgetting Steve that there was a rod that was holding up the hood Um and I snapped the hood off like I grabbed the one corner went down. And then you know the rod was holding up the other corker order off so I had to get that put on another time. We got so mad. I kicked it. Kick the grill of the car and it just completely disintegrated disintegrated. The sand was his just went boom in then when not pitching. You're driving around in this thing in your Pinto until in Edmonton very much like John Candy and Steve Martin in planes trains and automobiles when their car was completely demoting yet they still were trying to get home for the giving. Yeah it was. Yeah I got got demoted. Anyway and a lot of memories. Lot of memories Steve. But thirty minus thirty people stop with but the like winter. Oh man sitting around talking about the weather okay. Let's launch in certainly lively show yesterday about Don Cherry and we you were certainly at polar opposites in our take on the guise firing yesterday's show. I really sticking everything I said I. I don't think he said anything wrong. I think people overreacted. I think a couple of things have come out of this. You know what. What is people people? Stop with your take on this thing that you know i. Soldiers fought for freedom in this country and you know without them. We wouldn't have this great Beautiful place that we live in where we're where people can work and they can live and they can feel safe. And what did that ever have to do with what Don Cherry said. Nothing Don Don never said. It wasn't in fact he said it was a great country and dawn. Respect soldiers more than anybody so all. He's all these long drawn post from people saying this is an outrage that he would disrespect on Remembrance Day. You know he never said any of that. Steve He never did. And and people are putting these posts up there saying that. The guys was disrespectful to soldiers and stuff. So that's dead ass wrong. No Way. Was He being disrespectful towards soldiers. Nobody in this country is more respectful to our military than that guy which is by the way and I don't want interrupt your story too much but it's it's by the way. Why had a big problem with November eleventh? Like why why couldn't sports network have done it on Sunday or why couldn't sports had done it today November twelfth. Why would you choose November eleventh guy? That's been so good in the military. Say you hadn't bought a poppy yet. Steve Okay and you're born and raised in Canada and if you saw that take of dawn's where he said he meant immigrants. There's no doubt my mind I'm not. I'm not tiptoeing around Wolf. who he meant when he said by poppy? You people by poppy. He met Immigrants New people a candidate. That's the outrage. Okay but I you know people are saying you don't need to remind you you know you're reminded only one group of people but if you hadn't bought a poppy and you heard that take you might say I gotTa Buy Poppy. Yeah I didn't get one yet. Okay so really. He's reminding everybody. Okay really really. If you're sitting there again you don't have one you're gonna Yup. I gotTa Biparti the other thing that that is just hilarious. That people are can't understand that every TV. TV network every every show. Okay every post starts off. Don Chair got fired for his discriminating remarks for dividing fighting the country for singling out immigrants. Yes he did yes he did but the reason he got fired is because of this station and they've got to take a stance and they're always going to. They're always going to you. Know Err on the side of caution here right that they so I understand what they did the other the thing is you're getting biased. Take from every other guy who is on TV. Okay if you got your television in station your employer come out and say these were discriminatory marks. Okay you can't go any other way that if you work in that station 'cause you'll you'll get fired you'll get fired so you're you can't say well every guy on TV and newspaper Guy and all these other podcast people and all this stuff we're getting paid You're getting a biased opinion. You're only going to get that. I mean is it. Just look at his partner right Ron Maclean. In the midst of his apology he basically grab the life preserver of calling out the commentary and had he aligned himself with his friend and his colleague. And said you know I see what he was doing. I know exactly what he meant He he would then run the risk of going Down with Don Cherry's ship exactly. You're handcuffed Steve. You're handcuffed if you WANNA make a comment on this thing. And but in the end Steve and then you gotta weigh in on this and in the end Don Cherry reminded someone to buy a poppy. Yeah I mean you can look at it from that perspective An Egg let me just reset my take on it in that. I do think he said something quite wrong But I was willing to service as we did the show yesterday. Sit Back and wait for him to clarify maybe apologize. College is because you know it's it's possible it's probable even that That he's not coming at this. At least I thought from A place of discrimination or stereotyping and all that but he obviously was given that opportunity and chose know what and I don't think he even understands what exactly he said Because I don't I don't feel like He. All he did was say I was just standing up for the military and tell people by poppies. No no Don. That's not what people are upset about what people are upset about. And the best way I've heard it phrased is by a first World War historian by the name of Stephen Impure Wall and think he sums it up beautifully. What Don Cherry did was fully? Endorse a stereotype of the immigrant. And who is thankless of the immigrant. That isn't patriotic of immigrant. That hasn't paid his way. And that's completely wrong. And and so I agree with that. However I'm not torches and pitchfork guy? I was just waiting for an explanation or an apology from Don Cherry and at that stage age because I was not I was not the guy saying. He's gotTa lose his job for that. I might say the game has passed him by and time to some degree as pasta him by and there are other reasons why I might have moved along from him say ten years ago but just evaluating what happened on Saturday night. That's the kind of thing I would like to get clarification vacation on. And if he gave me something that I felt pretty good about that it came from an okay place. Then yeah maybe maybe we continue with things. I wasn't in the mode of that was so horrible. He must be fired immediately. So I thought that that historian put it quite well to great explanation And he chose chose not to take that potential for an all olive branch and I think he still confused. I still don't think he gets exactly why the way where he phrased. His terminologies came across offensive to people. I disagree with the Guy I know what he's saying and I think he's putting words in in or suggesting stuff that don did. That's his take on that. That's his take on that and I still like all I look at this thing.

"The winter and I hate people say I love the winter. Really really some people do I guess. Thank thank God for hockey. Because if you're for hockey there'd be nothing I'd like about it you know. I skied when I was in Ottawa. Ski Cap fortunate was a little bit of a racer there when I was a kid. Multi multi multi multi athlete Stevie. I was Played many sports and you you know it was fun we lived up around camp. Fortune skied a bunch. Ironically I moved out here to the mountains and I quit skiing and But but I ended up going every every a couple of years or something like that decide to do. I just hate every single moment of it. Well I gotta get up too early. I gotta put the Shit On. I got to put the ski boots on. And I'm just like my fucking feeder hurting my feet too much you know. Stand in the freezing cold. Lift Lines Steve. Get on on their the wind howling of a thousand miles an hour on a chairlift. Get up to the top. It's just frozen. My fingers are cold breath in about one hundred yards skiing down the hill but boy is it fun. It's a lot of fun while the great news is you don't have to do it anymore. Yeah I gave it up. You Know Jasper's only a few hours from here. The love you had winter all comes from being young and and being a kid because your parents Harrods made you go out and dress for the elements and then sometime around when you're a young adult. You're just too cool for that and And that stays that way pretty much for the rest of your adult life. You don't dress appropriately for the weather in theory we should all just be the ninety five guys going off to his office. Job should have a full snowsuit sued on like the hood over his head the scarf wrapped around his neck and face. You know like the little kid on Christmas story who can't get up when he falls down. That's that's how you should be handling it and we'd all love winter a little more. Yeah listen listen people you can. You can come up with any reason you want to try and convince me to like like winter. Okay there's one thing that trump's at all all the time they'll go like this but look at the snow fogle minus thirty. No Yeah but you you can get out with your kids at what minus thirty. That's your headache minus thirty Steve. Okay by it. Got So coulter.
