"But Carl, he's someone who, if I were to draw up a list of guys who I think are going to have huge seasons, he might be right near the top because we know how motivated he's going to be coming off that lost 2022 season. Right. And look, I think buster, the operative word in all of these things is motivation. And whether it's because you self inflicted damage to yourself and you couldn't perform, whether it's because you are hurt and now are healthy, well, there's clearly players who are in free agent years that are motivated to do as well as they can and unfortunately, it implies that there are years where they're not as motivated as they would be in this particular season. And that part kind of sucks. I don't necessarily understand why every game and every year, you're not as motivated as you would be. But there are clear factors that increase level of motivation. He certainly is motivated. The same way that Nick Castellanos is motivated the same way that Jack clarity is motivated for different reasons, but you'll understand there's kind of a heightened level of motivation. Adam Wainwright and his last year, he's always motivated. Maybe there's another level of motivation because I want to leave on a high note. These are all very individual concepts of what's motivating me, but yes, he's certainly in the top three or four players who have every right and reason to be motivated. Yeah, my son does fantasy baseball. And I've told him, you should drag nanotechnology. Junior, you should jump a couple of rounds to get him because I could see him being huge. I could see Manny Machado. A year in which he's now going to be surrounded all year by an improved lineup having tattoos junior hitting in front of him. You know, I assume Soto's hidden in front of him maybe Xander Bogart's heating behind him. It's an opt out year for him. I could see him going big. I spent a couple days with Carlos Correa last week. I think he's going to have a huge year. You can feel his investment in 2023 based off of what happened this wintertime, maybe wanting to prove people wrong. You know, maybe because he's another guy buster. Dansby Swanson, you know, anybody that was that was passed over. Xander bogarts is motivated because the Red Sox didn't pay him. Dan's response is going to be motivated to show the brave screwed up, you know? And so again, a very individual, but yeah, all the names you're talking about absolutely fit into that group of there's real reason to and your son and the fantasy is a perfect example. Find somebody coming off a down year. Find somebody who's got this other level of motivation, then it's another baseball season and I'm trying to put up numbers. Kyle Tucker, the Astros is someone I sort of had pegged because of the depth in that lineup now, now that you had a Jose Abreu to you're down Alvarez, Jose Altuve, Alex Bregman, Michael Brantley, you know, I saw him a couple times last week. He looks terrific. They feel like he's going to be able to come back and play. You know, you hope he can stay healthy. You know, the fact that he's going to have a good right handed hitter probably batting behind him in the lineup. Maybe that's going to turn out to be Jose Abreu. I think Kyle Tucker is going to have a huge year in vault into the top ten and the MVP conversation the American League. Bo Bichette, you know, who last year as good as his overall numbers were, there's some ups and downs. And I think there's something to prove for Beau in terms of his defense. I agree. And I could see him having a big year. And we talked on the podcast about Corey Seeger and how he is projected by a lot of these analytical systems as having being a guy who's really going to benefit from the change in the defensive shift rules and what you can do there. I can see Corey Seeger having a big year. Yeah, I would absolutely see most left handed hitters having bigger years than they did when they were they were shifted. And those are some of the bigger names in baseball. I think some of these rule changes and this is another big name who I think is going to benefit dramatically as a guy like Trey Turner. Just to literally the bigger bases, I have Trey Turner is a 40 40 guy. I think that ballpark is conducive to Homer's truest park is conducive to homers. There's a couple of other parks in the division he plays in now. I think he'll steal 40 bags. He was he's been very close before. Corbin Carroll's a name that we don't throw around very often in Arizona, but that's a dude that can absolutely fly his defense is incredible. I think he's another guy that I would put on a list. If you look at Cincinnati, there's not a lot to look forward to, but hunter green was ridiculous in September and October last year. And throws a hundred plus miles an hour. Because I think in New York and you know how I feel about this guy, but Michael king was this valuable reliever when he was pitching as there was last year, and he dealt with that terrible elbow injury, but he didn't need Tommy John surgery. He's back throwing again. I think he has the best stuff on the on the entire staff. I think that's an all star this year. So this is just a couple of other names of guys that I think are going to have big years this year who may not be the Fernando tatis juniors of the world. All right, I'm going to throw some over under that you in a moment with team wins based on projections coming out of Vegas. But before we do that, I want to ask you about conversation happening in the Yankees camp about the Yankees mulling the possible move of Aaron judge to left field when Giancarlo Stanton needs to play in the field and potentially in the Yankee Stadium. As you know, if Stanton is in the, you know, plays a defensive position playing in right field. There's less room to cover in that ballpark and judge indicated a reporter that he's totally fine if that's something Aaron Boone wants to do. Carl, I got to tell you like this is surprised me that it's taken this long for this conversation to take place. It always made more sense to me that the better defender you want to have playing a left field versus right field in Yankee Stadium. Yeah, man, look, I think that was personnel driven for the most part because they felt they had a less yield or prior to Bader showing up when you could move hicks over there. It was a really good defensive player. That was an issue if you're just talking about Bader Stanton and judge what Stanton's playing. Absolutely makes perfect sense. And he proved he could play center field, let alone left field. So and he's that type of person. He's that player. He's got that contract. I'm sure if they said Aaron, we'd like to think about you, maybe at first base he'd say, sure. You tell me what's best for this team that's going to help us win.

The mets lead the NL east by three and a half games over the braves following New York's 8th win in 9 games, 9 5 at Washington. Daniel Vogel back's first Homer since joining the mets was a Grand Slam in the 5th inning. It's always good to hit home runs. But more importantly, we want a series. And it was really, really good team win. Pete Alonso smashed his 28th home run. A two run shot that gives him a national league leading 86 RBIs. Chris Bassett tossed 7 scoreless settings to help the mets finish 5 and one on their road trip. Bassett allowed 6 hits and a walk. I'm Dave ferry. In New York, the Mariners got early power to get past the Yankees 7 three. Newly acquired Luis Castillo was staked to a 6 zero lead before he towed the rubber for the first time as a Mariner. It's always good going up there with so much like a little bit of a cushion. I mean, I go up there a little bit with more of a plan a little bit more relaxed when I get up there. Castillo allowed three runs over 6 and two thirds innings. Nick Castellanos 8th inning home run proved to be the game winner as the Phillies won in Atlanta three one ending a strong road swing for a Philadelphia team battling for an NL wild card spot. I lost yesterday to be able to get this win and to come back 5 and one on the road trip. Every game is important, especially within our division. Big Time Baseball

"Big time baseball. God, we already talked about the Yankees. Let's talk about the mess. They are going over to San Francisco, display a series against the Giants. They just got swept by the San Diego Padres at home and the Padres looking good met looking arguably like the best team in Major League Baseball, but losing Scherzer for a while, still no de Grom, can this pitching hold up. Taiwan walker through a gym the other day. They got Peterson on the mound on Monday and he's done some great job spots starting. Not to mention McGill's been a great, great starter this year. Is there luck on the mound eventually or finally about to run out? Well, obviously sure is his absence is huge with the Grom out as well. We're talking about probably around the All-Star Game for both pitchers. So I mean, that's going to see if they could tread water, do stay where they are until then that being fantastic shape, but they keep winning. You know, McGill should be back fairly soon. Obviously walker's been good. Carrasco's been good. You've got Peterson. They fucked up those question or at least we did and their death has been very, very good. Bucks done a great job. They've erased a lot of big deficits, certainly that one against the Phillies was huge. At the St. Louis too. So, I mean, they look like a charm team right now other than the injuries to their really their two best players. And to be able to carry through without your two best players, that's pretty good. Of course, it does help to have $290 million to spend. That is a plus. That is lovely. And also, I gotta point out the other elephant in the room. It's helping them that the rest of the NLEs is really underachieving. The braves haven't done anything yet. The Phillies offensively should be a juggernaut, but defensively, that might be the worst defense I've ever seen on any professional field ever. Well, you know, I mean, losing Harper does not help that defense. He's one of their probably two or three average to above average defenders. You know, there are team with some great strengths and some great weaknesses and like usual. It looks like they're heading at toward 500. Now they're a little below 500 and an error from Muncie last night as we talk to to get the win that they needed, but you know, with that starting pitching with that lineup, they should be better than they are. I thought when the depth of national league, they might struggle to make the playoffs, but I certainly expect them to be better than this. And the braids too. I mean, they're probably suffering that World Series hangover that a lot of teams suffer or you know, they were like this last year and they were below 500 around 500 more than halfway through the year. I still believe in them. I feel like I've got some questions. I mean, you've got the bullpen issues, clearly still, and you've got the defense as you pointed out. Two big issues and that may be too many. Yeah. Not to mention that. Other teams in that division that I actually like. I keep looking at the Marlins thinking them as what could have been. I know they didn't go out and sign too many guys, but I know Nick Castellanos wanted to be in Miami. That team's got an incredible pitching staff. I don't know if cassiano would have been at the difference maker. But this team is currently sitting in the third place thought I can't imagine that this team couldn't do a little bit better, especially with that staff that they have over there in this somewhat down NL east at the moment. I mean, for the Marlins, they went out for them. It was spending. They didn't want to sign a $100 billion guy Castellanos, but they signed 50 million for obvious sale, Garcia, and they spent 36 million for solar. They picked up a couple of relievers from the Orioles. I liked what they did. They looked really good in spring training. I think maybe they have more in them. They're pitching as excellent Pablo Lopez has been one of the best in the league, along with all the so, you know, I think again, the underachieving. I think it's other than the match. It's a division of underachievers right now. I think the Marlins are probably better than their record is shown and same with the Philly, same with the brakes. It's been a mess year so far. In growing companies, there's two kinds of CFOs, the one overwhelmed with manual processes, errors, and lack.

"Talk and bark and do all these things and realize, you know, I probably can do this while there's distraction. It's my job to stay focused. They've been incredible at separating when it is they've got to be quiet when the pitch is thrown and then how to react immediately after and I'm grateful for it. I think they've been unbelievable and I'm delighted that Harper and then the week after Lindor is doing it. It is a massive upgrade for the coverage of baseball for people who watch. And one thing I'm curious about whether it comes out is how much baseball history Bryce Harper knows. I think among a lot of players you and I know, you know, they play the game for a living, but they're very few who are actually big baseball fans and know the history Bryce is one of those. I know you certainly learned that through your conversations with them. I've spent, we once it's interesting that two people are two of the four people we've now put microphones on. There have been days where I've spent considerable hours with that person. Auto was in a men's room and Harper was in a green room and believe it or not, a Jaguar. We were shooting a commercial for Jaguar and Bryce and I spent several hours together in a fairly confined area. And yeah, he is a, he's a baseball rat. I mean, you know, I brought up when we were in discussing our Sunday Night game, the kind of parallels that Harper and trout have taken. In a lot of ways, we've known Bryce Harper since he was a teenager. And I think similar to Tiger Woods, when you're that great, that young, you're almost forced to understand the history of the game. And I think Bryce is one of those guys who recognizes the names of the people that have come before him. His peers now and what the game's direction is and where it's been, what his impact has been. I agree. I think he is one of those that doesn't just go and play. He understands all of it. He gets where we're going and to his credit. I think Bryce is one of those guys that realized, you know, exposure of the player and brand, et cetera, is really, really important. And again, we're all grateful that he sees that. Aaron nola will be pitching for the Phillies on Sunday Night. And I'm really curious, Carl, to get a look at their defense, the Phillies are very interesting team and now they're constructed. They got a bunch of to use buck showalter's turn a bunch of herbs. No, this was Davey Johnson who always said this that Harry chested sluggers up and down their lineup, adding Kyle schwarber and Nick Castellanos and defense is going to be an issue all year for them and their challenge is in the face of that are they able to climb into this upper Echelon of teams it's developing immediately at the start of this season. Yeah, it's a little bit of the land of a misfit toys, but in.

"And if he has a season where he just runs into some home runs, like the wind and Wrigley is blowing out. He's not gonna barrel the ball up. That's not how it works. But he might loft some over the ivy and we'll be like, oh my God, he's added power. It's just so easy for him to have kind of an accident in one place that's not really a concerted game change that makes him a star because he just does the stuff that is less variable. Strikeout rate is not variable year to year. If you don't strike out much, you're not going to strike out much. Defense is not variable your year. Good defenders tend to provide good defense. I mean, now there are measurement of it with advanced metrics is pretty noisy, but I think that's getting a little bit better. And base running, not very variable. And he just does all these things that are very stable, quite well. And I just think that makes it easier for someone to be a breakout. And I mean, if he improves and I need the other skills, then yeah, he could just be an all star every year. Love it. That would be wonderful. I mean, I don't think it's likely, but he could. Rookie? That's Suzuki, and he's also just the most interesting everything about the cubs. Avoided talking until the end because I wanted to tell people so that we didn't have to just talk about him the whole time. I mean, how good do you think CS Suzuki is going to be? I have no idea. Yeah, I don't know either we talked to Dan about that when he was on here, but hard to say. I mean, the projections are not that great, right? Some of them are incredible. Yeah, it depends on this. He's going to be one of the best outfielders in baseball. Depends on the scouts and yeah, you will get the stats you put up in MPB and your eyes get pretty big. Or steam or other. Steamer has him hitting for one 40 WRC plus. And then the bat hasn't hitting for a one O 7. And he's hilarious. I don't know if you've watched anything he's put on the Internet or any of anyone in Chicago's interactions with him. He's great. He's a character. He just seems like a ton of fun. I couldn't be more impressed and I have seen him bat one time. It's really strange. The key could be Nick Castellanos except with a really plus glove. And hopefully with less of an seeming ability to curse people. Yes. Yeah. I can't blame Castellanos for that. He's never been going on. I'm just joking. Yeah, but he could also be the short side of a depletion. I just, I have no idea. And I think that's really cool. I like that I have no idea. I like that he's The Rookie of the year favorite, right? Yeah. He has to be. Oh gosh, yeah, I suppose so. I can't imagine someone I'd pick over him. He's like, he's guaranteed to have a full year of starting. Right. The cubs are never going to bench him. They're not going to play any service time games. And he's just going to get endless chances to hit. I think he's probably going to be The Rookie of the year. He's also obviously the most important rookie. If he's bad, that's not good for the cubs. I just don't think he will be. Although, I guess he has, you know, in some ways the situation is an enviable one because if there is some adjustment that needs to go on there, like the stakes of him having that adjustment on this cubs team are very low because they're going anywhere anyway. So if he has a so so year as he acclimates, that's fine. That's not the end of the world because you're not really his production is not the difference between them getting into the wild card or not. Oh, absolutely. And it also helps that his 30th percentile is probably a rookie of the year favorite. Right, right. You don't need to be that good when rookie of the year. I think he's just like, it's a really good spot for him if he's not perfectly sure how good he's going to be. Right. And also, it's just a good spot. Like, I think it could be very fun to play baseball in Chicago, especially on the cubs when they're winning. I mean, the white socks are really cool, but I don't know the city seems to not get behind them as much. When the cubs are winning, that sounds like a great time to be a cubs player. Yeah. And if you're the not that he'll be the lone bright spot because I think you've mentioned a couple of guys here who will also be fan favorites, but if you're the most exciting position player on that team, that's a good time, even if the team was kind of stinky. Yeah, I think it's great. And I guess one other storyline to monitor is the status of Wilson Contreras, who is entering his walk year and the rumors about trades continued to fly right up until the block out and possibly after that. So maybe he follows the rest of the cubs who were traded last year out the door at some point this season, depending on how the cubs are faring, but he has been very good at I know a lot of cups fans would be sorry to see him go that would kind of complete the house cleaning, I guess, but brace yourselves for that, I guess, cubs fans are used to saying goodbye to people. Definitely an awkward sign that they did not agree on an ARP number. Yeah. That doesn't feel great for the likelihood of having him there past this year. I'm curious to see, I guess one of the big questions for me with this team is what do either based on the production that we observe in the roster or on the way that the front office conducts itself? Are we going to have a better sense of what they think their time horizon is to be in competitive again? And I think by the end of the year, we'll kind of have a better sense of it. Because Ben lindberg, when you and I talked about the Suzuki signing, I think we were both a little bit surprised that Chicago ended up being the destination just based on what we were assuming would be their trajectory to return to competitiveness. And so I'm curious if we get more indicators one way or the other in terms of how long they think this rebuild or step back or brief interregnum before they own a soccer team is going to take them. I tried to watch a game of every team that was in this preview spring training game. Have you seen reginald prescient? He looks like he is 12. Yeah. It is disconcerting. Yep. Yeah, I mean, some of their guys are a little bit away, but I mean, he seems great. Yeah. Yeah. I am very curious how it's going to work because it wouldn't shock me if they were good in 2023 or 2024. They have some interesting guys there. And they clearly have the capability to spend. And I think they will again. I actually don't think that it's a terrible, I know it's really fun to dunk on the rickets. I've done my fair share of it. But they spend when the team's good. Now they're quick to slash it down. Do rebuilds to save some money when it isn't. But if they get good, they'll spend more money. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, if it makes you feel better, then prescient is not even 19 yet, I don't think. Yeah. I mean, I know he's young, but wow, he looks young. He looks younger than he is, and he's young. Yeah. So we do have a running joke on this podcast historically about not talking about the reds, but we are obligated to.

"Doesn't seem like they're necessarily a strong sense of exactly when and how this happened. Yeah, and we keep hearing and it's true that he's a quick healer, but he's been heard a bunch of times, and I've heard more than once that, you know, eventually he's going to need, obviously, need surgery on the shoulder, and now he's trying to delay surgery on the wrist to make sure he can avoid maybe avoid that, but the bottom line is for a really young, strong athletic kid. He gets hurt a lot, and it's weird to watch because he's such a good player. And he's so good for the game. This is just such a bad development for the potteries. I feel sorry for them and him because this is not the way you need to start spring training, especially with a new manager. Yeah, and there was a lot of speculation in the industry yesterday. Will the Padres go and be aggressive in other parts of the team? Will they go and make deals that augment the club for this year? Here's the problem, Tim, is that they've kind of tapped out on resources to some degree unless they decide to spend more of Peter seidler's money, they have traded a lot of prospects the last couple of years. They have spent a lot of money. They're one of the teams had actually paid a luxury tax last season. I don't know if there's necessarily an easy place for them to pivot. No, I don't see it either. I don't see a free agent that they could just go get and rent for three months and then have tatis ready whenever that is. So I think they're in a bit of a spot. Jake cronin worth can play shortstop. Kim, the Korean kid, he can play shortstop, but you know, it's just not the you can move Manny Machado over there if you wanted to, but it's not the same when your best player is your shortstop. So they've got some work to do to get that thing better. What did you think of the Mariners blockbuster trade with the Cincinnati reds, taking advantage of the reds fire sale? Well, I loved it for the Mariners. Jesse winker is a really good hitter. And he's getting better every year. He has tremendous power and. Suarez was really good hitter a couple of years ago. And I know he hit under 200 last year, but he finished strong last year. And he's not going to have to play shortstop, which was a mistake in the first place, put him over there because I think it affected him offensively. So I think you add those two bats to what is a pretty good lineup anyway. And now you got a team that was on the cusp of making the playoffs last year and you add two more hitters for the middle of that order or close to the middle. I really liked what the Mariners did yesterday and I'm sorry. I feel sorry for the reds and their fans. This just doesn't seem fair that they've already moved two position players and lost Nick Castellanos to free agency and then traded sunny gray it just doesn't seem right that the Cincinnati reds have been around for a 150 years. It just doesn't seem right that these deals should be going on, but this is the reality of the world in Cincinnati. All right, a strange situation with the angels. I must tell you that, you know, last year as you saw the emergence of Brandon marsh as one of baseball's best defensive center fielders. And that's what I've heard. I haven't really seen play that much other than on television. I haven't seen him play in person, but people I speak has spoken with with other teams really think that's how good this guy is is a defender. And so the writing on the wall that at some point might trout has been the center Fielder is going to move to a corner spot. Marsh would be in center. And I assumed all along that there would be conversations this spring with Mike about that, much as there was the same way there was when Tory hunter was the angels center Fielder and they moved him to the corner to make room for Mike Trout. And then yesterday, you know, the day after Joe Maddon talked about moving trout to a corner, trout talked to reporters and said that the first he learned of this conversation was on Twitter. And then he mentioned that no, you know, I'm a center Fielder in my mind and by the end, the organization was kind of backing off, Tim, given Mike trouts, extraordinary personality, his generosity is a person, I can't believe how badly they botched this. I can't draw any other conclusion than Joe Maddon botched this. And I say, with great respect to Joe, who I think someday will make a speech in cooperstown for all of his work with the rays, being the manager of the cubs when they won 2016. But this was a disaster that would be would be even worse if not for Trump's personality. Yeah, look, we all understand not everyone, except for William Hayes, plays center field into his late 30s. I mean, only the greatest center fielders do that. So Mike Trout was going to move at some point, but you're right. You should never find out on Twitter about something like that and Brandon marsh has a chance to be a really good defensive center Fielder. He already is. But you're not moving Mike Trout out for a relative unproven kid who has a chance to be really good, but he's not an established player yet. And I remember when the reds moved Ken griffey junior out of center field, just how difficult that was. You have to go to your star player first and say, look, I'm going to bring this up today or this is going to come up. Just want to let you know, the fact that that apparently didn't happen is not a good idea by Joe manner or anybody else with the angels. I was covering the Orioles in 1996 when Davey Johnson told reporters, including myself that Cal Ripken was going to be moved to third base before he spoke to Kala about it. Now, I believe that Davey made the decision that he was going to tell the media first to box call in to because he thought Cal might be difficult about it. So he just wanted to get it on the record and then cow was very unhappy about it. The way that it played out, and that was the situation I was thinking of yesterday when this happened. Again, given Mike's personality, I'm just so shocked that they box themselves into this corner. All right. Yesterday talking Yankees camp was the trade for Josh Donaldson last year, Donaldson said some stuff about Gary Cole using sticky stuff. And that led to this meeting yesterday between Cole and Donaldson and Aaron Boone's office. Here's Brian cashman talking about all that. Yeah, called dare it last night to give him a heads up in advance just because of how the public.

"You put Suzuki at 34 on your list, he's 20th on MLP trade remove list. I'm sure you probably were not a say a Suzuki expert until recently I know Eric logging and he can root the blurb on the fan crafts top 50. But you presumably spoke to Eric or other evaluators and have the zip projections too. So just the general overview, what should people expect out of Suzuki, who is a 27 year old multi position player, but primarily an outfielder? Yeah, so like you said, multi position player primarily not filter. I think there's some DH risk. I mean, he's DH occasionally in NPV. But that is not a question, right? He's probably the best hitter in NPV. I would say. And he's 27. So he's still projectable. The question really becomes so he's already, and a corner out of a guy really. So is a righty bat really special in a corner outfield. If so, then you can get pretty big deal, and there are guys in Major League Baseball who do that and learn a lot of money doing it. I just wasn't willing to basically assume that he would be one of these Nick Castellanos type hitters without any at all, history of seeing that in the majors. And I think the teams are, they're willing to give years to guys like that, but I think I'd be surprised if I see a really high average annual value. The crowd and I both came in pretty similarly. I had four at ten, the crowd had four at 11. For him. And there's a lot of error bars on this projection. I think I could pretty easily be wrong there. But to me, this is just not the style of hitter that gets like a long high average angle value deal. Particularly giving away posting works, teams are spending some money for that. I wouldn't be surprised if I was wrong. This is definitely the projection with the highest error bands around it. But I find it hard to believe that given the way that teams have been spending in free agency recently and the way they value each position that a corner bat in the outfield who's a righty is going to get that much money. You mentioned cassianus, and I think we can probably put solara in this category and obviously we still have the ageless wonder or continuing to age wonder that is nothing cruise, but I'm curious how much you think the universal DH meaningfully alters the market for those guys. Obviously, there are many more teams that would be available for their services and some like castiano's the worst part of his profile gets hidden if he doesn't have to field, but in terms of the difference that it might make in terms of either the duration of their deals or their AVs, how meaningful flip do you think that actually ends up being? I think it's more meaningful for the marginal guys. Yeah. So I'm not sure it matters that much for Nelson Cruz. There's gonna be a market for Nelson Cruz to go somewhere for one year and just clobber baseballs. There's gonna be a market for Nick Castellanos who was good enough to be a valuable player playing the outfield dismally. For an NL team for years. And there would have been a market for JD Martinez if he opted out. And Mark Khanna can play outfield. So he's not really part of this group. But I think that for guys like celebre, it's a really big deal. And if you have to play Jorge solaire or Eddie Rosario, who did not make my list, but what is pretty close to making the list? If you have to play one of those guys in an absolute corner, that hurts like they're not good defenders and at the very least you'd hope that you can get them some rest days at DH whenever whoever your primary DHS is resting so you can play real outfield defenders over them. No offense, guys, but they're just not. They're not what you'd prefer to have in your outfield. And so for those guys where no one's going to say, this is a top of the market DH, and also no one's going to say this is a guy that I feel comfortable having in my right field every day. Their market does get a little bit limited. And depending on what teams want to do, there are several teams who might trade for metals and move a first basement to DH. And that's the spot where Jorge slayer can't play, and NL teams won't give as much money if there's no DH. So these marginal guys I think could see largely just increases in the number of years they get, and the amount of teams showing interest to where they have to go up a year as a way of tie breaking the deals. If there's a universal DH I don't make matters at the top, no matter a lot of the bottom and I'd also just think it's very likely to happen. So I think that makes solari in Rosario, maybe, you know, good picks to click on this list to go up if it turns out that there is ADH. I wrote the list assuming that there would be no change. So I think that's the easiest way to do this. There will just be enough changes in the CDA that I assume no change and we can go from there. But if there is a universal DHEA, the marginal corner baths get better. You don't predict where players will sign on the fangs shrinking, which I think is smart because not only would it be a lot at work, but who knows whether there would be any predictive value in your predictions? I would say it would not be. I'd love to see a study of that, actually, because MLB trade rumors has been predicting destinations for years and years at this point, and I'd love to know whether there's any value to that because they assess the market and they know which teams are theoretically in it, and they put a lot of thought into it, and I would still bet that there's little to no predictive value over the dartboard method. I mean, I guess it would be better than just random one out of 30 chance of getting any one prediction right because you know which team is historically have been the big spenders and which have not and which might be in the moment that they are spending that in which or not. But if you could somehow adjust for that, just kind of the baseline knowledge that almost any fan would know heading into the off season. Yeah, probably not a whole lot to it. But as you were making this list, I wonder whether any potential fits or matches stood out to you in particular, either like, oh, this guy has got to go there because it's just such a perfect fit. Or even ones where you think it would be just fun if a team ended up signing a particular player. So the most obvious fit to me is Carlos Correa to the Yankees. The Yankees need a shortstop just so, so badly. Sorry to all of the guys who have played shortstop for them in the past year, but they don't really have a true plug and play shortstop. Everyone who they've put there is a natural defender further down the spectrum, moonlighting. Korea is the best free agent available. He's young..

"We're getting lots of professional opinions, and we're going to go to the phones a little bit later. Get your opinion on the question, Which is the question of the night for our guest. Right? Our guest is Joe Dannenmann. Fox 19 now Sports guy. Jody, What's going on tonight? What's up, Chief? How are you? I'm doing okay, man I'm doing okay. So just to let you know now I'm not. I'm not trying to You know, taint your thought process or have you lean in a certain direction? But we we had Paul Dougherty on first figuring that maybe you might crescendo a little upward in the optimism category. Maybe I don't know. We'll find out we shall see, because it's more thought. The question simply is this If not now, when, and that has to do with you see football. It has to do with the Reds in the hunt. It has to do with the optimism around the Bengals this Sunday and beyond. If not now, when. Man. That is an interesting question well framed. So let's take these one at a time and I'll start with the Bangles because you have about them less. I go into Sunday with more questions than I do answers for this football team, and I don't think that bodes well. For the upcoming season. Now I do think will be improved on what they were the last two years, which is six wins in the last two seasons, so I think they're going to be better. I just think the problem is they play in the division that is very talented. And loaded with good organizations. And so I think it's going to be an uphill battle all season long for the for the language to get out of the bottom of the sea north, but the Reds Now the Reds back to me is a coin flip of them making the playoffs. You say if not now, when I do wonder if better. Things are coming in the future, Although I know the big question hanging over this organization is the future of Nick Castellanos and the different teeth made this season. Obviously to this team has been massive. But I do think with the horses that are coming from Triple A in the form of Hunter Green, Nikola Dolo and even the young shortstop Ferrero, I think has a big future for the red, So I do think That one. I want to temper a little bit. If not now, when? Because even if they don't make it this year, even if they do make it, guys, we don't expect them to go very far. Right. Agree? Absolutely. Yep. Or the Giants. Either way, two teams that are better than them, But still, yeah, just getting the playoffs would would be a great boost. If not now, when applies most to me with the U. C football team. And you see athletic program. Obviously, the urgency of what we expect to hear. Tomorrow is big time with them. Getting into the big 12 would be just a great great moment for this athletic department. And this football team, especially because I think once you get to that kind of status as a conference, then you stop asking the questions about Luke Fickell leaving and I think whatever has to be done to keep him here. He's been that much of a difference maker for this for this program, and I think that's a big big indicator that he would probably state and see for a while. When they do get to the big 12 Joe Danamon from Fox 19. Sports is our guest, and I'm going to take you back. And I'm not going to argue with any of those three assessments, But I will ask you curiously, from a Bengal standpoint, if you had to give me perhaps The three questions. You mentioned questions, and I tend to agree with you and usually do when it comes to Bangles from the standpoint of more questions seemingly than answers. What do you think are kind of the key questions? Besides Joe Burrows health? I mean, obviously, Joe, that's the biggest one. You know what we look like. Can he stay healthy? Can they protect them? That's the one that everybody will be sitting on pins and needles. Every Sunday. What are some of the other questions that you think? Make this year? Maybe a little bit better, but still not that good. So the three questions that you asked. I think we can answer two of the three questions that are in my head, and I don't think there's anything that dangles could have done in the off season to answer. What is the third question and I'll start with that one. The question is, is Zach Taylor, head coach. Material in the NFL. It's he that kind of a caliber of coach. I don't think we can answer that. I don't think there's anything the Bangles could have done in the off season from roster. Um, you know standpoint. To make me think Jack Taylor could be the guy going forward. I don't know if he is, I don't know if he's set better to be an offensive coordinator or an assistant coach. I just don't know exact. Taylor. Is the guy going forward for this team as the head coach very well might be. I just don't know if we can answer that question in the off season. The other two questions I had in the off season. I still believe they remain unanswered. One is the defense any good? I have no idea. I just know this in the NFL. You win games by sacking the quarterback. This team lost Carl loss and they brought in. Trey Hendrickson, Quite a splash season last year, had a great season big number season, but does he have the pedigree? To do that repeatedly and earn the money. The bankers are going to be investing in him here in the next few years. I just don't know if the Bengals have the depth of that position if they have the tablet at that position. To be difference makers and be better because they're sack numbers were abysmal last season and a big reason their defense wasn't good. So that's the question I hope to have answered. Before the season started. I don't think that question's been answered. I just don't think they're markedly better. Defensively. The other one is is their offensive line. Better enough that you can put to bed the fears of Joe Burrow being protected, Adding Riley Reid helps Jonah Williams being healthy and seasoned a little more help..

The Reds are to tie for that second wild card spot after the Padres lost last night and the Reds one Reds are 74 66. Joey Votto Mike Moustakas at third base bats, fifth. Six. The shortstop Kyle Farmer, Tucker Barnhart, catching bats, seventh, hitting eight the left fielder Matt Chirac and batting ninth, pitching Vladimir Gutierrez again for the Reds. Quarantining with Covid. Cubs are 64 76 there in fourth place in the central Division 21 games back, leading off the center fielder Rafael Ortega. Frank Swindle snapped his eight game hit streak. It'll be Ortega swindle Hap. Contreras, Wisdom Hayward Body Al Contra and Mills, Alec Mills pitching Least once again to be joined by Chris Welch. I'm Tommy throw great to be with you tonight from Wrigley Field in Chicago. Alex Mills, Chris comes in with a even six and six record. The Reds have face him twice this year. When he has started, Reds beat him both times. This is a guy that really doesn't have a lot of flash, but when he's on he can. He can beat you because he seems to have pretty good command, a pretty good idea what he wants to do Well, they better have good command because he doesn't throw very hard, but I would call him a garden variety right hander with a limited upside. As far as as below. In fact, he's one of the slowest pitchers in the league will get to that later on, but he's legitimately has five or six different pitches. He's got good command and his his games always tried to get the hitter a little bit off balance. So they hit it on the end of the bat rather than swing and miss it. Jonathan India hit his fifth leadoff home run of the year last night. He leads off here standing in Reds and Cubs. Hope you enjoy it. Let's play first pitches, a called strike on the outside corner and east to India and were underway and one Count on Jonathan India game getting started right on time at 6 40 this evening. Here's the one pitch, Sandy just off the outside corner, One ball and one strike. Mills loves to live down there lowing away all night long..

"This relates player to player. Going back to my time. When i was playing i it was one of those. Where yes you wanna know the analytics you you want to know tendencies or the way i described that you want understand the percentages but of course you need to know that nothing is absolute right. You go up. Hey it's a to one count. This guy typically throws a breaking ball in the outer half. Well maybe that day. His breaking ball isn't isn't working doesn't have the bite it has other days so you need to put that in your mind and understand. Yeah you normally throws a breaking ball here but today. His changeup spent his nastiest pitch. So i'm going to go ahead and sit on a change up or if you're a pitcher in that aspect hey. This guy crushes balls inside but earlier in the day. He's been a little bit slow. He's just out of it for a reason. He's missing that pitch tonight so you're going to live there until he makes an adjustment even though up until this point he's been crushing that so you need to take things day to day and ultimately be willing to make adjustment so understand the tendencies understand the patterns but don't make it the bible. Don't make it something that you're living by day today and ultimately it's the only thing that you rely on the next question was does the game need fixing yes answered four and no had sixteen responses when asked more generally players were hesitant to find problems with the game that's given them so much many believe it needs tweaking but isn't necessarily broken jesse winker the reds outfielder said quote. I feel like row is trying to fix the game. But i say it ain't broke. Don't fix it. we have a beautiful game. I grew up enjoying the game because of the way it is andrew miller the cardinals pitcher said we think the financial system is outdated and needs to be adjusted to account for young players. Taking up more significant parts of the roster competition from all. Thirty teams will fix a lot of what's going on in the markets. If everyone is trying to win the free agent market will certainly be better for players. So a lot of times players. They're basically looking at this from a financial aspect because they're looking at. How do i get paid more or more teams going to be competitive and does the game need fixing no. It's a beautiful game. It's fantastic right. It's the only game that's driven by the defense and hockey the offense and the nfl the offense in basketball the offense well in baseball. It's the pitching whenever the pitcher throws what he throws the defense. They're driving how the outcome of the game is going to happen. And i think that's part of the beauty of baseball. It's one of the best reasons to play the game where the defense has more to do with the outcome. Potentially than the offense good pitching beats good hitting. We see that every time when it comes to october and other sports if you have a fantastic offense you're going to score points and then baseball even if you have a great offense if that pitchers locked in you could be out of luck that particular day and the last question here is if you were a commissioner for a day what would you do. Rogers in the marlins said like the runner at second base in extra innings. I would keep that at first. I wasn't for it. But as it progressed it save guys in the bullpen. It's save guys from going down and there's a lot more excitement at the back end of the game and i tend to agree with them. I like this rule. I like not having seventeen. Any marathons guys are just basically plan homerun derby when it comes to extra innings. Nick castellanos the reds outfielder said we have consequences for losing and underperforming. I wish everyone across baseball would have the same just to keep the integrity of the game at its highest purity and intensity and commitment to winning could be watered down if there are no consequences to losing basically discussing tanking and some teams out there. Who aren't going to win in every given year so ultimately it's it's an interesting take and that's where i do think a salary floor will be a great implementation and you also had cedric molin. Say five hundred foot home. Run should count for two runs and we should get four strikes so i think that one was a bit tongue in cheek ultimately he just wants more opportunities to hit more opportunities for the offense but as a whole baseball's okay there's just a few tweaks that need to be made here and there to speed things up keep things moving get more balls in play here moving forward but overall it's a beautiful game and i wouldn't mess with too many things kind of like we're going to discuss coming up here and say the number to move in the mount back in the atlantic lake. What's been going on there..

"The Reds could go on a 10 game 11 game 12 game winning streak. Don't think they have what it takes to do that. Don't think they have the pitching to do that. Maybe Well, I I don't think it's going to happen. So the question becomes realistic that realistically, where is this team and winning? The National League Central Division. I would submit to you just go anywhere that you choose to find your Your baseball information and just look at the pitching staff that Milwaukee has and see what they've been able to do. And then if, indeed it's going to take 95. Let's just say right now. That's the magic number because again, the Brewers are on track for that, If it's going to take 95 wins to win this division And there are 81 games left, it would mean the Reds have to win 54. Of those 81 games left. To get to 95 54. Could they do it? Sure. Chances of them doing it Good. I don't know. I don't think so. I think this team right now is in a great spot as a leap board in the next year. I think that they've got certain things they've got to address. I think they have to make sure that they don't lose Nick Castellanos. Think they have to address the glaring weakness that is their bullpen, although over the last seven games they played pretty well, picks pretty well out of the pen pitch well last night. And I think they have to figure out once and for all, what's going on at shortstop. Hopefully, they'll get some answers. But to run out and just start dealing and say I need it. We need a picture. We need somebody else in the pulpit. For what to get where I think if you do the math I don't I don't sense it. Joey Votto had something interesting to say after the game last night about the situation Obviously, he's playing better now than what he did. At any point last year or the year before. I think he's he's kind of been rejuvenated, had to hit last night that brought in both runs. Reds Win 2 to 1. This is what he's talking about, and you can almost hear in his voice that It's a herculean task that they have. Anyway. Here's what photo had to say. Yeah. Last night was kind of a tone setter for tonight, Always a reminder that we're in games. And to, uh, run through the tape by Chris Webber says in life, but, um, yeah, no, I, um I like today's when I like last night's win and 41 40 through the first half of the season, so we have to play some really strong baseball the rest of the way. And, uh, that's not. That's not something. Um We think we can do that, so we're looking forward to it. Got to play some real strong baseball the rest of the way. If indeed, Milwaukee keeps this up and again 10 game winning streak is crazy. But if they keep it up, and they do wind up in the mid nineties 95 let's just go right there. Cincinnati is going to win 54. The 81 games. It has left 54. They would have to go Help me again. Ohio U 54 27. To win a division. That I don't see a wild card coming out of But anyway We'll try it again with the Cubs they win. Today. It's three in a row. You can only play one game at a time. And as an old baseball guy once told me All of this will sort itself out. By the time we stopped playing. One of the great wisdoms one of the great Proverbs, and it will all sort itself out. By the time we stopped playing. 12 53 NewsRadio 700 wlw. Get ready for a divisional title.
