"This relates player to player. Going back to my time. When i was playing i it was one of those. Where yes you wanna know the analytics you you want to know tendencies or the way i described that you want understand the percentages but of course you need to know that nothing is absolute right. You go up. Hey it's a to one count. This guy typically throws a breaking ball in the outer half. Well maybe that day. His breaking ball isn't isn't working doesn't have the bite it has other days so you need to put that in your mind and understand. Yeah you normally throws a breaking ball here but today. His changeup spent his nastiest pitch. So i'm going to go ahead and sit on a change up or if you're a pitcher in that aspect hey. This guy crushes balls inside but earlier in the day. He's been a little bit slow. He's just out of it for a reason. He's missing that pitch tonight so you're going to live there until he makes an adjustment even though up until this point he's been crushing that so you need to take things day to day and ultimately be willing to make adjustment so understand the tendencies understand the patterns but don't make it the bible. Don't make it something that you're living by day today and ultimately it's the only thing that you rely on the next question was does the game need fixing yes answered four and no had sixteen responses when asked more generally players were hesitant to find problems with the game that's given them so much many believe it needs tweaking but isn't necessarily broken jesse winker the reds outfielder said quote. I feel like row is trying to fix the game. But i say it ain't broke. Don't fix it. we have a beautiful game. I grew up enjoying the game because of the way it is andrew miller the cardinals pitcher said we think the financial system is outdated and needs to be adjusted to account for young players. Taking up more significant parts of the roster competition from all. Thirty teams will fix a lot of what's going on in the markets. If everyone is trying to win the free agent market will certainly be better for players. So a lot of times players. They're basically looking at this from a financial aspect because they're looking at. How do i get paid more or more teams going to be competitive and does the game need fixing no. It's a beautiful game. It's fantastic right. It's the only game that's driven by the defense and hockey the offense and the nfl the offense in basketball the offense well in baseball. It's the pitching whenever the pitcher throws what he throws the defense. They're driving how the outcome of the game is going to happen. And i think that's part of the beauty of baseball. It's one of the best reasons to play the game where the defense has more to do with the outcome. Potentially than the offense good pitching beats good hitting. We see that every time when it comes to october and other sports if you have a fantastic offense you're going to score points and then baseball even if you have a great offense if that pitchers locked in you could be out of luck that particular day and the last question here is if you were a commissioner for a day what would you do. Rogers in the marlins said like the runner at second base in extra innings. I would keep that at first. I wasn't for it. But as it progressed it save guys in the bullpen. It's save guys from going down and there's a lot more excitement at the back end of the game and i tend to agree with them. I like this rule. I like not having seventeen. Any marathons guys are just basically plan homerun derby when it comes to extra innings. Nick castellanos the reds outfielder said we have consequences for losing and underperforming. I wish everyone across baseball would have the same just to keep the integrity of the game at its highest purity and intensity and commitment to winning could be watered down if there are no consequences to losing basically discussing tanking and some teams out there. Who aren't going to win in every given year so ultimately it's it's an interesting take and that's where i do think a salary floor will be a great implementation and you also had cedric molin. Say five hundred foot home. Run should count for two runs and we should get four strikes so i think that one was a bit tongue in cheek ultimately he just wants more opportunities to hit more opportunities for the offense but as a whole baseball's okay there's just a few tweaks that need to be made here and there to speed things up keep things moving get more balls in play here moving forward but overall it's a beautiful game and i wouldn't mess with too many things kind of like we're going to discuss coming up here and say the number to move in the mount back in the atlantic lake. What's been going on there..

I talk about this guy. Be the only person who could say that too. Yes i'm very excited. And it ends with nicholas cage going through new york city with a bone marrow on his back but it starts with every it being about him being this man that has consistently delivering bad news and people start throwing things at him and he talks about trying to judge which worst a frosty or the big gulp. It hits him in the face. When and it becomes the that i felt like nick cage man a little bit the last twenty four hours. I'm just telling you what i'm seeing right. "The Reds could go on a 10 game 11 game 12 game winning streak. Don't think they have what it takes to do that. Don't think they have the pitching to do that. Maybe Well, I I don't think it's going to happen. So the question becomes realistic that realistically, where is this team and winning? The National League Central Division. I would submit to you just go anywhere that you choose to find your Your baseball information and just look at the pitching staff that Milwaukee has and see what they've been able to do. And then if, indeed it's going to take 95. Let's just say right now. That's the magic number because again, the Brewers are on track for that, If it's going to take 95 wins to win this division And there are 81 games left, it would mean the Reds have to win 54. Of those 81 games left. To get to 95 54. Could they do it? Sure. Chances of them doing it Good. I don't know. I don't think so. I think this team right now is in a great spot as a leap board in the next year. I think that they've got certain things they've got to address. I think they have to make sure that they don't lose Nick Castellanos. Think they have to address the glaring weakness that is their bullpen, although over the last seven games they played pretty well, picks pretty well out of the pen pitch well last night. And I think they have to figure out once and for all, what's going on at shortstop. Hopefully, they'll get some answers. But to run out and just start dealing and say I need it. We need a picture. We need somebody else in the pulpit. For what to get where I think if you do the math I don't I don't sense it. Joey Votto had something interesting to say after the game last night about the situation Obviously, he's playing better now than what he did. At any point last year or the year before. I think he's he's kind of been rejuvenated, had to hit last night that brought in both runs. Reds Win 2 to 1. This is what he's talking about, and you can almost hear in his voice that It's a herculean task that they have. Anyway. Here's what photo had to say. Yeah. Last night was kind of a tone setter for tonight, Always a reminder that we're in games. And to, uh, run through the tape by Chris Webber says in life, but, um, yeah, no, I, um I like today's when I like last night's win and 41 40 through the first half of the season, so we have to play some really strong baseball the rest of the way. And, uh, that's not. That's not something. Um We think we can do that, so we're looking forward to it. Got to play some real strong baseball the rest of the way. If indeed, Milwaukee keeps this up and again 10 game winning streak is crazy. But if they keep it up, and they do wind up in the mid nineties 95 let's just go right there. Cincinnati is going to win 54. The 81 games. It has left 54. They would have to go Help me again. Ohio U 54 27. To win a division. That I don't see a wild card coming out of But anyway We'll try it again with the Cubs they win. Today. It's three in a row. You can only play one game at a time. And as an old baseball guy once told me All of this will sort itself out. By the time we stopped playing. One of the great wisdoms one of the great Proverbs, and it will all sort itself out. "I think they've got great depth and I think they're going to you know approach a hundred wins again the way they're going right now. Barring injury. Yeah, we'll see the pitching depth still scares me, that's why I had them. I think I had them finishing in fourth place when I did my preseason rankings, because I just didn't believe in the pitching. I mean, obviously it's been much worse than we could have anticipated, but I'm still scared by the depth. I mean, they're one injury away from, from really having some problems because they just don't have anyone in Triple-A could help them. But yes, they certainly have the table and talent to win this division. No question. Anything else on your mind? Oh, it's a hundred degrees in Boston today. I'm just pretty warm. Yeah, it should be an interesting game and you saw Garrett Richards putting his arm and ice last night in the middle of the, in the middle of the game to stop himself from sweat, am so crazy. Things seem to happen at Fenway when it's this hot and the ball certainly flies as we saw from the two home runs that we mentioned from Hunter Renfrow. They were taking your shots and certainly in the heat. It doesn't pull those walls back at all. Yeah, exactly it's been good catching up with you Jason. We got to do this again. Yeah. Absolutely. I'm looking forward to listening to the podcast and it's always good to chat with your tracks. Yeah. We'll have to catch up on Nick Castellanos. See, he added quite the game for the redlegs last night. Grand Slam RBIs. I think he's the National League MVP right now. I don't, I don't vote pitching for MVP. I everybody's coming at me on Twitter with Jacob degrom I get it. But Nick Castellanos is the best day to day player. I've seen the national Lakers. Wow, I didn't realize he was set for 3:47 my goodness. 74 total bases. Wow. Name is o p. S is o p s at home at Great American this year is 1310. Well it's like the Coors Field. "Tony Shores head coach. Of the state champion C H c, a baseball team he will check in in our next segment, couple other things that jump out over the weekend that I liked. You saw the Votto home run, and the reaction is he hit home plate and headed towards the dugout. A fired up and I mean an overly fired up. Joey Votto. Um, I loved Earlier in the week. The Vladimir Gutierrez start in the frustration in the first inning, and he went to the dugout in any through his mitt in anger at the running, given up in the first inning in Nick Castellanos, the veteran is the story goes, walked over to him and and calmed him down and said, Um I want you to go seven innings tonight. And he made him say it. I'm going to go seven innings tonight. I liked what Lucas Sim said yesterday. About the bullpen. Quote. We're at a point where we came together as a group in realized it can either go one or two ways. At this point, boys, let's figure out something. Come together of the bullpen as one We're at a point. You can go one of two ways that this boy boys, let's figure something out. Five arms yesterday combined. For one run allowed now. That doesn't mean the bullpen is fixed far from it. But David Bell 123 arms give me the fourth arm. Let's try the fifth arm five combined to give up one run. I thought Tony Santy in what was good in his debut, four and two thirds innings. Five hits, four walks, struck out five. He allowed just one run. Now he was under a lot of stress, a lot of pressure a lot of traffic on the basis. Um, he he allowed What? Nine. Well, there were 12 runners left on base. The Rockies went oh, for nine with runners in scoring position against him. It started rating. He's pitching a great American ballpark, which is a tough place to pitch in. He got out of it, He's going to have to be much better. That's a team that scores the fewest runs in baseball on the road in the Rockies. They've scored 16 fewer runs than anybody else in baseball on the road this year. That's a team that's hit 10 fewer home runs than anybody in baseball, Um said, uh, fewer than the Pittsburgh Pirates on the road this year. So Tony is going to be have to be much better, but give him credit..

I'm on local radio Ken Brew for Scott's load after the news at 10 o'clock healthcare, it is going to be a major issue in the November election. Where are the Republicans? And where are they? Where is their healthcare plan? Where is it? Dude, Where's my plan? Anyway, we're going, Tio. We're going to get into that with our health care experts Seth tension? No, I was just looking at it. Just I don't know how Major League baseball is going to pull this off. I really don't Your two postponements last night because of Kobe there three more tonight. Detroit ST Louis not happening. Yankees. Tampa Not happening. PHILADELPHIA Miami Not happening just not gonna happen. I don't know how they're gonna pull off 60 games in 66 days. I mean, already. We're seeing Double header seven game double letters. Red's just reschedule the game with the It was the Cubs. That's now. Ah, scheduled doubleheader, seven game doubleheader coming up here in a week or so adjusted to me. This season has been so bastardized on so many different levels. I don't know. Reds lost last night to two nothing. They were beaten by one of the best pitchers in Major League baseball. Mike Levinger on the right side for him of a two Nothing win. And, honestly, the guy that the Reds rolled out there last night tray and tone pitch well. For the third. Two hits, one run. With four, struck out for and walked for through 82 pitches, but he got lifted in the middle of the fifth inning. Only it thrown 82 pitches now. I don't know if he was on a pitch count. I don't know if Part of the problem was that he was tiring. I do know he left and Michael or engine came in and Michael runs. It has not been good this year, the majority of the bullpen outside of a mere Garrett Has not been good this year. And so Lorenzen comes in and allows a single that brings in one run and then allows a fielder's choice that brings in another run in It just it was not. It was just not good. Just not good. So the bottom line was to nothing. Reds and your your holds your whole strategy changes. If you're you go from one run down, two runs down and over and above that, I I look at the Red's last night. And they were just bad at bats last night, just some really, really bad at bats. They're like, had three hits. So that ought to tell you what they did from an offensive standpoint, but Players not disciplined in the count. You can't rely on Nick Castellanos hitting a home run every night. And they were shut out by Kleven jerk. Levinger through 103 pitches didn't make it out of the sixth. Pretty well corkscrew. The Red's last night and somebody asked David Bell after the game. Whether or not he thought his team was pressing. Like it was trying to hard. Like. Maybe it was not doing individually what it needs to do it. Every individual is trying to do, Maura. And because of that. Because of that. The team just isn't playing well here over the 1st 12 games. This's what Bell had to say after the game. There's always pressure.

In the fourth or in the fourth, Suarez hit a home run. Tyler Malli pitched well. Through five. I thought, OK tip of the cap. I'm don't think I'm going to send him back out to the for the sixth David Bell, setting back out for the sixth to go through the meat of the order. And got through it one up its six innings. And it's been a long time since I threw 98 pitches and said it was the right call on David's Burt take him out. So David went to the bullpen Pedro Strop who we had not seen in a week. First batter, Ray is ground ball to shortstop error by Freddy Galvis that would come back to haunt Ah walk than a strikeout that a flyout inning should have been over. But it wasn't Mercado then walks. Then Hernandez, an infield single kind of a chopper between first and second kind of in the Bermuda Triangle. Run scores 2 to 1. David Bell goes to the bullpen for Lucas Simms. Then a walk with the bases loaded. 22.

Yesterday, The team announced that Scott Schebler had been designated for a Simon in that picture. Brooks rarely had been added to the roster On Saturday, Covington native Nate Jones was told he had made the open. And a roster has been a long journey, but it was definitely been worth it. And for it to be this close to home and a lot of people to be able to experience it with me. Eyes pretty is pretty exciting, and I'm very thankful and very blessed for that, For sure. "Thing is that they added Nick Castellanos from the Tigers for Miller thinks she can be a thirty five home run guy on the north side if in fact he was to play a full season there I yeah I said look there's some sneaky upside in this edition he's the best hitter that was traded at the deadline by any by any team and Comerica go towards the saps power from right handed hitters which cost again as it is so the fact you get out of the park he has been among the league leaders in doubles which a lot of times you know translates into some home runs if you go to some smaller ballparks so I think there's an opportunity here for the cubs to it may be stolen a better hitter than he looks like he is on paper and they needed help against facing southpaws and Caskey on us is three forty seven with the one oh two six OPS lefties this year so certainly check that box yes Sir and and listen I think you have to add the Kimbrell signing to this this conversation the day we signed June seventh but didn't give up anything but added that they added a couple of other bull pen arms and like I said earlier I think with with Cassiano so maybe they're thinking that hopefully they they found a couple of arms that will help their bullpen but they've just gone out slugs some people like if if their top four hitters and then you add a word and then you add forever to the mix and then Castellano's has an effect I mean now maybe I'll like I said the usual slug some pit maybe you avoid those game those two for the first two games against the brewers where you can't get any runs across they also because also traded Martin Maldonado away and added Tony cap camp as we mentioned from the Astros earlier and they have sense Carl Edwards junior to the Padres in exchange for big tall lefty Brad we act is actually six nine when I call lefty like you didn't say crafty or all liar baller on I'll rephrase Rudy getting guys out three bad tall left the six foot nine nice bread we ask I don't think you're gonna you know I'm gonna send you anything five seven ERA he is a big tall lefty who struggles to get left handers yeah I'm using that to me he also struggled to get right handers out but just not as much as he struggles to get lefties he is an absolute fantastic guy the clubhouse usually tall and he can slap a lefty from the people up as the others follow through he's the first guy you want if you're playing pickup hoops effects bread we ask right so he has been traded the cubs obtain nine six nine nice old age thank you six nine with the after all these from Amarillo Texas to big tall Texan he's immediately going for what are they going pitch in for the for the Padres this year so caps going to go on a rant hi every team championship team needs a six foot nine guy it was clean in the clubhouse we should mention too that cranky traded by the diamond backs to the Astros probably the biggest name the Braves acquire Shane Greene from the Tigers a closer the Phillies get Corey Dickerson outfielder from the pirates the nationals added simple plan help Daniel Hudson Burness alley us and a hunter Strickland all going to help the nationals bull pen of notes also guys that weren't on the move Madison Bumgarner was not dealt by the giants and also Syndergaard was great last night right against your white Sox they're closer D. as neither one of those guys were moved right yes the Mets apparently going for it so the eighties acquire Tanner Roark the brewers have and a couple of arms they add drew Pomeranz from the giants and they also acquired Jake for re in exchange for haces algo are who goes to the rays okay so that's your that your breakdown of what happened at the trade to the white Sox were quiet but they did trade Nate Jones to the Rangers for a couple of right handed pitchers and I think Lee makes our friend Freddie human are happiest of all right because he has he has pointed out quite a bit just how much they Jones is not done for the white well I think he's always pointing out how Nate Jones is always on the injured list and he's traded from the injured list right now to the Rangers injured list you on Moncada has a great one hamstring strain and will miss a couple of weeks who when is a a employee coming back he's back that is yeah okay well they I've been focused on guys they're adding not currently guys on their roster yeah he's been back since I think Sunday as he really awesome well done while a bit of my football bunker trying to great names and stuff all right you always have that's good I'd listen I was expecting a longer stay on the injured list with a high ankle sprain don't don't send any deeper just that you didn't know hi the high ankle sprain was the first injury member this was the funny bone yeah you got again yeah you know what you're right of dollars just you don't we get a lot of stuff going on that's right by the way as a David Phelps has left he's a righty David the correction.

"So he may have a point there. Do you see that? No, it just telling the truth telling the truth. Now the last night on on major league baseball network. They did the position of right field. And they rated the top right fielders in baseball and number nine, including the National League it Nick Castellanos number nine rightfielder in baseball. The Tigers are not wanna lose the number nine right fielder in baseball. They don't have a number nine or number top ten catcher at all. They only have a catcher mentioned in baseball. So catcher position is very weakened. Tiger system. No. With Rogers strengths. Well, always strength on a team. If they say Kesse Seattle is the best one the the wrong. He's a he's the worst defensive outfielder. And but harbors right online with them. His offense are pretty good. That's all they said caslow says a two point nine war, which is a little bit far. From where Mookie Betts is monkey pets? Almost had a a nine or ten war wins above replacement. So they're saying that Nick casts allows gives the Tigers three extra wins a year. Yeah. Right. So who are they would they replace them with if they tell them, listen, I'm looking at this year, the looking at the there's no question they need better outfielder on the Tigers. There's no question about that. But why would they give up a whole year? I don't understand their payrolls down. They got rid of Victor Martinez knew this all along. There's no question not not even worth discussing. They say they're going to do it. And they stuck exactly what they're gonna. Do I know but look at the point of their salary. If they wanna put fans in the seats they need to put up a halfway decent team. And they don't have a decent team. And they could improve this team for one year by adding free agents at one year, take one step up and go to backwards. No. That's not the way to do it. They said, and I agree with what they're doing. But they're not ready to bring up these young pitcher, not quite not quite not quite you may see one next year in September. Then in two years, you're going to see a couple three years you're gonna see four five pitchers. I'm talking to wait is why why not even try to share? They're not trying and this doesn't seem to make sense because there's players out there that could improve this team with stiff was still letting the young players developed because most of the young players need to develop in the farm system. They're not ready to face major league pitching they strike out at a record rate. I just told you the numbers and now the now talking about the major leagues dot the minor leagues. But yeah, minor leagues aren't whole lot worse. Now, you're gonna take cash allowance out of that lineup. And nobody would replace them with his value. You're gonna lose more games. You're going to strike out more often. And I just don't see why they don't try to at least put an upgrade for one year if they trade Kessler. No, they're not gonna they got another year cast channels to trade them, the probably trade him during the I'd like to see him traded in the off season because the team's doing cast channels and high value at all I've talked to the scouts, by the way. I was talking about Philadelphia. Why they're not Philadelphia's God Nola. He's a good Petry's darn good pitcher. But after that, they got a reality is on the downside three point nine eight. Nick. Four point seven seventy era. Dallas has got a four point eight. On a four point eight five and given he's got a four point three six. So they don't have much of a pitching bullpens improved. But I think you're right. Instead of signing up. Manny Machado Philadelphia would be better signing a starting pitcher out there. And there's a couple of good ones. There's the guy from Houston the left-hander kaikal. That's that's a free agent out there. Kyko. Yup. Dallas tyco. I don't you didn't get fit in on that team admit probe that starting rotation. He's out. I don't think Martin sign anywhere yet has Morton's apprently boards a little older, and he's not going to get the big numbers. So if if right now, Nick cast Laos has earning nine point nine million. That's a pretty good deal on his bat. So I don't think they'd have trouble trading him unless Alabama's asking for the moon. And that's what sounds like happening or he's waiting to see what happens in this free agency. I think most teams are winning see have not too many people want to get it d h he's not an out the Eliza D H the Jovan what eighty five eighty three eighty six runs last year. Twenty three home runs that's week per se. He's only a DHL limits amounts of teams that you can trade them to write fourteen teams. And the only the only other one you could think of as a team gets him as a d is a part time. And you don't want to do a part time. He's a young player. He's not going to be a part time player round. He has to be a time player. I tell you. Listen to me, though, if a miracle team got him and put him as number four number five outfielder, and as a D H that. Eight work that might work. I should say what worked what J D Martinez. It worked. Great. What JD Martinez? JD Martinez was even JD wasn't very good. He's a much better off than cat scans. When do you think dads camera will be ready for the major leagues? Twenty twenty. So that's what we're looking for to get to twenty twenty. So if we don't move Castellanos and he hits free agency where we're only gonna to get a accomplished a compensation pick in the draft. Right. That's correct. But I'll tell you. I think they'll move him. I don't think there's going to be a problem moving no gets now. Again, let's see what they get for him as well because I talk to scouts to the Atlantic to have the National League scouts. We're not gonna plumbing outfielder. He's not he's not an everyday outfielder tell you. He's only going to get nine point nine million this year, which is a good price for a bathroom. Yeah. So I don't think that there should be a problem movie. I just don't want to Tigers and move. I think he's got more value than what we're saying. Not me. We're not saying about his back could even get better. He's a young player I to get a little bit better. But look how many years you've been like five years, and he's only Healy drove in eighty six runs last twenty three with twenty three homers. That's that's not very good. It's not the forty some doubles was very good, nobody. 'cause there's nobody around him to hit it. How did how did he hit the devils? How did he hit the doubles then? Yeah. But listen he lost a Upton lost Cabrera to injury, and you Victor Martinez non-performance. So all the the key hitters in the lineup aren't there? There's no, torii hunter's. There's no Kinsley. Right. Those hitters around him. They can put you out anybody. They were there before what did he do? Not much. Thank you. You need to protect him in the lineup. And they're not going to get anybody to protect them so castle exposed all year to pitch around him and wait out his walks. He'll he'll get into a bad habits as swinging at bad pitches. They need to protect them in that line of getting well if Cabrera comes back in as a good year that'll be one thing, but you need more than one hitter in that line of protect immediate several several. You don't need. Several Jordy Mercer isn't gonna protect them Nico. Good room isn't gonna protect them. We're lucky he had a probably a breakout season last year. Like, you did last you don't know that you don't know that I don't know that. But it sure does look like a hefty ballplayer. I mean, he looks like a middle. Infielder to me, you know, he's he's a Jack of all trades. I don't think he's a master of one value with that. But he has a value as a bench player and utility man like Shane, Shane halter or something like that. She's taller Shane halter. That's the type of player he seems to be. We're going to move along. We're we're we're late on a break here. We're about ready to Andy Reid in the Kurt. Thank you, Jerry. I got some questions for you gotta call next hour. Thank you. Thanks a lot. Let's go back to the games. And then we'll take our less break. Your on this hour. Now, the the Rams have tied up the saints twenty two twenty. And New Orleans says the ball on their own forty four yard line second and twelve so let's see where that develops. We'll have an information before we go out and the Red Wings game is two to one Red Wings at the end of two and the shots are on Nielsen Advani, Kevin Neal's assistant to Kaiser on the vandyken and gun mantha Nielsen's. Good for them. Okay. Now. Let's let's go to the show the shots. Oh, oh, it's now twenty nine twenty two Vancouver's coming up a little bit on the shots. It's detroit. Fourteen vancouver. Fourteen faceoffs one that's getting closer to Detroit twenty three to twenty two. And. There you go. They need to win that game the Red Wings pistons had that game in the Bank and blew it yesterday. Absolutely. Blew it yesterday. Again, I know people like Griffin out there, but I'm not a Griffin fan. I think you show Nell. He couldn't win really again, not all his fault. But the point is he's making money. He's gotta show you can lead which he's not. He made the comment the beginning of the year. If you remember he said of the big three, I consider myself, Drummond Jackson, big three are healthy all your this TV, host of first round playoff series playoff series. Obviously meant the first-round really really take a look at the standings. And they're healthy. What do you see now Griffin? Twenty twenty. And the saints have the ball. On the Rams thirteen. Well, there is looking the wrong way. And that's first and ten whoa. Whoa. Nellie is is they would say. That's a heck of a game. And that's a heck of a game.
