"I was already up a guy had the highest I was about to 30 to 35 in college and as a pro, I got up into the 270 range 275, you know, I got a little busy obviously and when you wrestle as compared to playing basketball you are going to have more muscle I'll be sure so that that we're put that weight on me. But yeah pretty good career choice. Diversity of Miami and I had the opportunity to play some fabulous basketball players and I was really lucky Miami was not in the ACC as it is now it was an independent wage and we wrestled we I mean we played out in La we played UCLA the year they won the national champs Holly. Yep. Yeah, we played it Polly pages and artist Gilmore in the number two team that you they've national championship game was Jacksonville University and UCLA. And I played against both those centers. Wow, Gilmore found the center for the for the UCLA team. So, you know an opportunity to play some great players. I've played against Wing Talons went on to use Florida State. So we took Florida State obviously been in the same state and so, you know, I had a I had pretty good career. I really enjoyed playing basketball, but it wrestling was what I always wanted to do. Sure. Is there an opportunity was there ever a time that you thought wouldn't be a wrestler? But it was just kind of in your blood and this was what you were going to do know. I thought that I would retire I thought would quit a restaurant that you know, I did it was my grandfather's life. He went through his entire life with it and retired after having built territories and off the run a tremendous business. He operated resting and twelve States at one time in the South. He just was at a monstrous company in my dad spent his life in it and thought I would do but things changed in the eighties rusting change. Oh gosh, don't I don't even want to get there, but you know how I feel about all that often, but do you recall some of your first matches? Oh, yeah, I mean you you always remember some of your first matches. It's such a such a strange thing to be a professional wrestler off. You you have your haven't grown up like I did in the sport you see these guys and they become Heroes to you. There are there icons to you and and I end up wrestling some of those guys early on in my career the Assassins which were green tag team Jody Hamilton and and the Tom renesto. I wrestled of Nick bockwinkel as a real young guy one of the greats. Wow, you know just huge name's Bob Armstrong when Bob Armstrong was young. He was you know, he was in he was just getting started..

well because he is a guy who wants to get on TV who's in the audience the Emmy plot of people would like to get on TV with their if they're in the audience that's but that's all it is okay well I overweight is that fifteen pounds wow that's a big cat big lad but he he kids cat acne Ted Anthony we'll get like is that he really does seriously yeah that that's the thing cats can get acne I don't know that answer I never had a cat with acne but ruffled the big fat cat that we had which you see a picture of it it's the biggest cat I've ever seen in my life I was I I happen to you know he was my cat for a few years when I'm when I lived with other now he would get he would get googly eyed he would have a good we I would have to like wipe the goo off of his I. that was that was how do you treat the feline acne it's it's really not that big of a deal C. ten that I mean they they we were we were told that the best thing to do is is there just haven't eat out of a metal bowl because it's they find that it's generally the plastic bowls into something in there okay so that's an easy fix right get a metal bowl and then make him listen to metal maybe maybe ever put on some Sabbath metal Sabbath it'll clear up your skin right away yeah so you're gonna get your cat you can watch fever pitch with your cat yeah and then you know I never actually got to see cats so god but man you're gonna watch caps with again with the cat at home but I wonder if that would be considered like abusive or something to make a cash advance the abusive to you to yourself yeah it's a necessary evil yeah yeah yeah I don't drink anymore but I recommend that you do if you're gonna watch cats so all right Jim hang on okay hi Jim Ryan is with us we got to a lot more stuff to talk about more articles "Like I said Greg I used to think that this was an option this taken away from me and I'm not so sure that this this country this world rotates very well without the anticipation of the curiosity of live sports because in our daily lives we just don't have enough tingles enough things that they they can get us excited and curious and not know the outcome as we do and we have sports and and that that is just been I think exemplified over the last couple weeks so badly we need not want not optional but how badly we need those in our life well we really do I mean you know just listen to that little piece of play it was that the twins there yeah that was phenomenal and you heard the crowd in the back yes you gonna be out are safe at home we don't know until the plays you know right now you take the crowd out of it what would have been like him come around home plate yeah I mean the guys would do celebrated together but they wouldn't have had that same feeling that they have with that crowd explodes like that and you know a lot of it and we go back to wrestling Mike you know the people we were different than the football players and the baseball players and hockey players you know the people who watch him play but they didn't they couldn't get close to yeah they had the uniforms on they didn't really get to see the faces and wrestling they saw your face that got involved in your emotions and they got emotional about it a lot of them put themselves in that position where they wanted to bring it in the ring whether it's I'm wrestling Bobby Heenan and he's the bad guy and they want to see me kick the crap out of them they might want to kick the crap out of there bought a box and they get that feeling out of yeah you know and it's the same thing with base what you see is what you want to be constant note there right you want to go in there flex your muscles exactly you know you played a lot of sports you know what it's like yes it is funny yeah it isn't it we get a crowd there it's even more fall I mean it just you can't explain the feeling of it to anybody that hasn't done it in it hasn't been in that position you know it's interesting that I talked to Vikings are played in the air the play of bread farmer named in through there and I see what was the highlight of your career and I'm not good I'm talking Adrian Peterson Chad greenway been Lieber a number of a master took in you know what they've all said the game at New Orleans well they lost the game and Norris go to Super Bowl it was incredibly disappointing because they look like they're gonna want to go to the Super Bowl but the point being because the electricity the ambiance you dissipation the crowd the noise that's your number one memory that's how powerful that is Kathleen yeah it is I mean that's what you know I go back to them right there's a few other means a lot of we had a lot of really good arenas the rustling in in good matches and I always go back to that feeling I had in the ring you know when you get down and you get that or you are going into doing this speaking engagement I try to get myself in that mind set that I am back in the ring if you get that adrenaline flowing and you know everything comes easier and you can relate that emotion to the people out in the audience and then they feed off that if you don't have that this is the feed off the people in the audience it's hard to really get yourself that point to make a really good delivery I guess yeah what whether you're just doing it on the field or in the ring or even on your radio show I mean it's it's got to be hard for you but usual grading motion thank you I listen to you and I can I can get myself into what you're talking about and get the feeling of it but it is tough because you don't you don't see anybody when I give a speech J. C. people I see other reacting to I feel I'm going too long I'm going over there to good mood today or not today you can't do that radio just frustrated me about this medium but you have to pretend and yes still bring the energy did you kiss that you did you look at it when you came I would imagine resting crowds you didn't have to do a lot of paperwork but did you did you look at it is your responsibility to create the energy in the building or once I mean those people paid to see you perform it was your job to get them involved and I get I remember match we had in San Francisco in the cul palace and that was that people were a long ways away from the ring it was a big building and it was really hard to feel the emotion of the people that we're arresting Tito Santana and Rick Martel will how do you get that draw well I tell you this was and it was a really it's a really tough crowd in San Francisco yeah so we go out in as Martel and Santana go out in the ring the people are already doing in growing B. S. B. C. S. yeah and then we come out we get the same feedback yeah we go oh my god eighteen minutes into the match and we heard we heard all this is just it's horrible eighteen minutes of the match we had I'm standing who are you cheering for they just were cheering for us we don't care who they are yeah or we finally grab that crowd and we would have going forty two minutes of the next twenty four minutes we head up standing the whole match it was you would you make a decision on the fly as soon as we got it now let's extend this thing and you don't pay them too soon became well usually one you just you you have you get such a feeling that everybody gets pumped up and you just everything gets going better everybody gets stronger and we came out of the ring and we went back to the locker mo we got back there everybody on the card these are all you know from ray Stevenson Nick Bockwinkel by Vernon Baron von ranch ski they all came up and said it was the greatest matches ever see really yeah and they said that is that crowd is where the heart is crushed in the country and that was unbelievable and that's what you learn as you travel over time right I mean we we know because we've been no Jesse told me that he used to sometimes they bring him in and you just have to do a pose down in other words yeah the crusher might be that the match of the night but and yes you would come in he would he wrestle he just to oppose I think you can say that the crowd I was just a really good though a reading the tea leaves of a crowd he was he was good at talking to people in the arena yep and they did they hated him so much and he he he wasn't very good in the ring and actually put it into donis that's why sometimes you just to oppose Downey when he Russell right yeah in India and we Kerry the match usually get Jesse and went where he had control of it so yes yeah one would look good but but yes he had that he had that he made of people he made people hate him yeah you know and they wanted to see him get the crap beat out of Bobby Heenan was probably the best of all of them I mean they hated him so much and you know that was his real personality but they want they want to see him get the crap beat out of them and most of the time that's what happened how about buckling call yeah he I mean he was saying he was a little different he was you know the people they didn't like him he was arrogant right indeed by design yeah he was like that in the ring and another ring okay it was the difference you know back then what you saw in the ring is what you got out of the ring so so but but when it did the skillful for your dad or whoever else was to say okay I need I need an arrogant guy I need a Jesse I need an Adonis but with the E. we can't have all the same kind of different right well yeah everybody's there it is just you go back the old westerns if you don't have a good guy and a bad guy yeah what happens there's no there's no movie right right and in the people it was and when I went back when I was going with with the hockey and football baseball in the the people didn't get to relate to them as much because they didn't see their faces we did the interviews so we did an interview and we have to be a you know you have to be yourself and you have to show some emotion to to get the people involved and they would either like you or dislike you yep and even sometimes you know we got booed hello I mean we wrestled in places where we got booked in on you know you just keep doing your thing but they don't get that they couldn't get that with the football players or the baseball players hockey players yeah so they they got they got so into you that when you got the ring they either love you or hate you and that but really you fed off that and we don't have anybody in the arena I think they don't now I don't know how to make the case to a much wrestling on TV the other night W. WWW and coming up with the wrestling at the performance center with with no people yeah and yeah and the matches were doll yeah you know it they were just all yeah because you need the guys look out into the crowd in in in support and say something you need that will even have to be you feed off the crowd was the crowds excited about yeah it's like a comedian when he gets the people laughing yeah you laugh right with them yep exactly you know you feed off them and if you're a comedian you don't get any laughs here it's hard for the people watch and it's harder for you up there you know when the whole queue center ring you did what well it was funny I was with him in Los Angeles when when my brother about grace United went out for the premiere on the fox network and hope was there yeah and you know he left the NWA and kind of bad yeah and then he called me over and we started talking and he said and this is where I go back to the ring Fauria he said you know you're the guy we were in Chicago at the Rosemont horizon sold out we're wrestling Bockwinkel ray Stevens and Jerry Blackwell woman are in the hulk yeah they get the ring in the up by being with them we come out we get the roof hit the ring and they bailed out in a hoax did one of his whole call cops in June was standing on one side of them and I was on the other and this is what Paul told me he said you're the one that said Jim grabbed my teachers T. shirt and we both took our damages toward off of a real slow yeah and those people what absolutely what happens you know from that time on we didn't have to do a whole lot they were into it the hall because the hawk the local stock market he said that day that's what I had to do every time I went the rain he said you're the one that gave it to me then so Hey man I wish we could do it all night we will defer night but thank you so much is always fun to have you on because I can hit that on switch you know that I get good stuff from Greg Gagne so keep working out I also sometime we'll see each other health club again I hope so otherwise you know you got that big Jim at your house with yeah if the virus if you know after the two weeks are now to the end of April you know invite me over come on overall class unified love to hide things Greg lake take care given that Greg Gagne always just fun to.

"The wrestling Tuesday it's got its own separate feed from under the hood to the resting Tuesday the podcast subscribe that way you'll never miss an episode and it airs by the way twice a week now two zero sum Tuesday because it's always so much wrestling going on it's been interesting twenty nineteen for pro wrestling for sure this past weekend we had some interesting events a lot of them as a matter of fact including TLC emanating from Minneapolis Minnesota let's dig into that momentarily so TLC tables ladders and chairs as the event for the W. W. E. this past Sunday and I thought it was a really good show not great I thought the ouster black defeating buddy Murphy was the best match on that card is is two guys are kind of know the car trying to figure things out but they have plenty of time to battle there are some really good action in that one so I think that if I was gonna choose my favorite match of TLC was that all the matches on the card included king Corbin you see him on SmackDown on fox he's like when the bigger heels as in the W. W. we defeated Roman reigns that tat table ladders and chairs match up king Corbin continues to win these matches with the help of Dolph Ziggler and with the revival in others but he loves being the bad guy I heard of an interview recently on W. W. backstage on fox he definitely loves me the bad guys so he doesn't have bad performances so if you hate him he's doing the job for sure Aubrey why defeating the Miz only stop there this was a non title match right between free white in the ms but yet the referee showed the belts the mills as if there was a title match site it's not a title match why are you showing on the belt it's like boxing MMA you sold the of the challenger the belts they showed the bell to ms even though it was a non title match very strange as number one number two the story line was that the ms we will continue to get attacked by Bray Wyatt as far as free why coming to the home of the mill is are trying to talk about his family all that in so if someone this with your family you'd want to fight them right you want to fight them okay for whatever reason in this battle between wide in ms ms looks so weak it so W. W. E. that's the best way I can describe it like if some of the tech your family would you read like trying to fight and try to rip this guy's head off not the ms he tried to wrestling moves and it just came across so flat even the crowd knew that as well the main event in the match up with the kabuki warriors against Becky Lynch and Charlotte flair to retain the titles tables ladders and chairs that match up as well only problem is is that curry sane who's one of the kabuki warriors had some kind of concussion it was really ugly too if you watch it there was a monitor that was thrown I think that Kara got it like a monitor to the head or it is a couple things where you can kind of pinpoint where concussion typical took place she is amazing they didn't stop the match clearly if if she's just punching the air probably she's can cost she could not even it was really bad and the WWE just continue with this match because he got a port Charlotte in and Becky Lynch in a great spot right you got to keep the match going and I think there was a major mistake some thoughts from bully ray from busted open on SiriusXM about that the bar for TLC matches have been set so high the spectacular bombs the amazing moments anything and everything that makes TLC matches so memorable now you have the stress of remembering every last thing that's going on now you have the stress of going on last on the TLC match George Bush stress alone can get to you trust me when you're on the other side of that curtain right before you go back about two out there a lot of things go through your mind and when you have a half an hour's worth of match to remember and then all of a sudden within the first five minutes or so you take a good shot to your head you blow up now people are saying wouldn't bother should carry scene wasn't blown up well there's two ways you can blow up in a match you can blow up physically in your lungs that just means you're out of shape and you don't belong in the rain we don't see many people physically blow up anymore right that means they can't handle the physicality in the ring they need to put in their cardio times of your blown up in the lungs that's one thing but what happened last night is a lot of guys and gals especially this could happen to carry she was blown up mentally meaning one thing goes wrong in that match you take one good shot to the head and then everything goes black exactly what happened in that contest a TLC cari same features she's just punch in air she just was fighting just the wind milling anything that she could thought she was saying that was not great at really with that in the I mean it ended well because Oscar and carry saying we're able to retain the women's tag team championships against two formidable opponents in Charlotte flair and Becky Lynch but it just that was not great at all something else too the NWA had their paper view the refurbished brand new NWA the national sea lions I and it was into the fire the paper view they had some good things and some question marks about that paper view but the main event was Nick Aldis against James storm for the two out of three falls for the world to a championship I thought that was an excellent match up you thought you talk about to the great champions in wrestling in twenty nineteen they call this is that guy because he's defending the championship all across the country he's he has this been terrific you lie Drake in Ken Anderson had a match I watch this paper view I thought that that was a great opener for them in for those that have not seen the new NWA you I've seen in the eighties and the nineties I even back before that the UW way is still based in Atlanta and it is a smaller arena it's kind of like have backed studio wrestling elected a studio television setting now a lot of people in there but it's full and loud and so they're trying to do something that works years ago and it's pretty what we're gonna pretty well I thought that their paper you for the first time with this new iteration of the NWA was pretty good among some of the other matches on here I thought that the I thought that the cold Cabana Ricky Starks errant's divas match I thought that that was good not great just you know if you try to put a serious quote unquote serious wrestling product on I don't know if you're in Stevens works for what they're trying to do I just wasn't a big fan of him but he won the national championship in that one so that was an interesting match up but I I think that wrestling in twenty nineteen is going in the right direction because here we go twenty twenty right on the corner and there's a lot of places for men and women to work women are getting over weight more than if they ever have in wrestling thank you which is the face of the WWE you're like a wrestling fan of the past you saw stone cold Steve Austin although again and all those people there the face of the company in the NWA's ric flair eight of you a Nick Bockwinkel you know whatever where were you thought was the face of a company now Becky Lynch is that person I think she still needs to be able to get over a little bit more though it's a struggle but yet women are really over in twenty nineteen and beyond now for professional wrestling the more women's matches now that you've ever seen in wrestling there's a time where women were just a novelty in wrestling wait to see him you know once a card once every other card now you're watching a rusting show for two hours you might see three or four women's matches and they are competing as well or better than the men it is it's really really impressive so I'm I'm really enjoying that but I think when I'm watching wrestling in the one watching the WWE the question I would have for them is what is the direction of the company from raw and SmackDown NXT I saw the ratings for raw this past Monday was at two million and it seems like it's going backwards instead of forwards I know that the excuse always as well Monday Night Football against when I rock because when I wrought errors seven to ten PM central time it's usually gets money like football with your wrestling fan you're tuned in but Ross three hours and I saw the numbers at a at two million it's not it's not the product I think that's sick man dot he has on Monday on Monday nights and also on Friday nights were SmackDown it's still it's an entertaining show but it doesn't hold you sold so much alike we act I can't wait to see next Friday that's the thing in twenty twenty hopefully there's some excitement for that company so you can say I can't wait to see this I can't see that there's not a lot in dissipation because when you have three hours on Monday the two hours on Friday it's like well I've seen everything C. five hours a day out of you what can I look forward to I really don't have cliffhangers because it seems like they're booking is going week to week when it comes to what they're doing so that a Wednesday night so Wednesday nights is this is the spot even though both companies all elite wrestling that's on TNT and NXT this on on the USA network it is they are fighting for pretty much a million viewers every single week maybe two million viewers every single week so it's still somewhat niche but it's growing it's our lease Wednesday nights when they're up against each other between seven and nine PM on Wednesday night it's fun and all the other independents around the country to as wrestling team to grow if you are a small company all the covers able to grow as well but remember nothing really works out until the WW streets out their business the WWE Star City have story lines it makes sense and getting better with that then it will be better for the overall wrestling business don't forget to check out.

"Jeff but not so it's a cavalcade of gas the cavalcade here it's not just a list of the cavalcade of folks coming up on the program all right we have basically a handful of birthdays each day we give you some of the notable birthdays throughout history without you know going to deep down the rabbit hole to explain who they are in some days we have a long list today is today is little different we have a short list of birthdays today is December the six that on this date December the sixth in at nineteen hundred Agnes Moorehead was born actress so on a sit com back in the days let's just say she played a mother in law that the husband did not like you know take a guess on that show sherry we are working on birth if you don't mind the heat you don't have to do that that's okay was a genie no but that is a great gas she was the mother in law on bewitched okay and I was thinking I said the wrong one yeah that was a great gas Agnes Moorehead was born on this date in nineteen hundred she passed away about the wait seventy four on this date in nineteen twenty Dave Brubeck the jazz pianist and composer I was born he lived to be ninety two by the way Otto Graham NFL quarterback from the Cleveland brown days he was born in nineteen twenty one couple more for you on this date in nineteen thirty four Nick Bockwinkel was born Nick Bockwinkel used to be Jerry Lawler's World Championship men nemesis Nick Bockwinkel would come to Memphis with the world heavyweight title and Jerry would try and try and try and try to beat Nick Bockwinkel and win that championship but he never did Nick Bockwinkel passed away by the way in twenty fifteen at the age of eighty one years old so folks a certain age remember Nick Bockwinkel also on this date in nineteen sixty two Janine Turner not from she played Maggie in northern exposure was born on this date and there you have it birthdays for December the sixth coming up next hour we've got events from this date in history that'll be coming up in about an hour I met this morning is by the way in California in Antioch California the police are searching for a woman who witnesses say intentionally drove her car into a barber shop and she was upset with how the barber gave her son a hair cut suspect was causing a scene outside the barber shop she wasn't happy the barber went outside recorder license plate and then the woman allegedly attempted to run him over the barber was knocked into the stores glass windows breaking them and sustain some significant leg injuries the sixty three year old barber was transported to the hospital any out police finally identified a suspect twenty eight year old ruby del get DO of Brentwood California she fled the scene can imagine fleeing the scene in a previous she fled the scene in a two thousand six yes and they're still looking for her after she was not happy with the hair cut that her son god so if you're in if you're out in California look out for look out for steaming mad woman in a previous in all right let's turn our attention from those headlines to tell looking ahead to the rest the your you know this is this is the time to have a terrific time and holiday party seem to be back on the rise you know we had we had the me too movement and now I guess the question is what a party is going to be looking like and what should they look like after that after that time let's set turn our attention to a company culture experts doctor Derren Martin Dr Darren great to have you on in Memphis how are you Hey I'm fantastic well it's terrific to have you on the show and of course it couldn't have you on at a better time now because companies are starting to roll out their holiday parties and it looks like according to a recent survey they're on their own the rights they are on the rise which I think is fantastic you know come to companies have gotten away from all of the fun stuff and I don't think that's that's the right move so I love it is there a bit of a difference I I know company parties in the past in some places have been kind of a place where folks can let their hair hair down is it safe to say that perhaps that's been tempered a little bit even though there's a come back what would have been tempered and obviously it should be you want to show up for work on Monday morning and get a promotion about the fire amen so your behavior at the party can really actually shaped either one of those and where people get into trouble is they forget that it's still a work environment I know it's the party but you still need to you know act as if you're still in that work environment if you do that you should be okay the two biggest mistakes people make our that drinking and winking at that's where people trouble drinking and waking I'll have to steal it from if you don't mind I that I like that drinking and I'm I'm guessing sometimes some some harassment suits can come out of the Christmas party or at least in days gone by it seems like there's been anecdotes of of that happening yeah I guess generally speaking yeah you kind of given some some warnings about the employee's no drinking and winking if an employer is looking to have a a party you know what what are some things that they you know what are some things they can do to make sure this gets you know their party goes off you know without a hitch so yeah you get a professional bartender they can they can keep track of of the alcohol intake you know make sure the people remember the code of time dog and then have a good time I think if you're working within a highly professional people then you want them to act professionally and whatever environment they find themselves that but certainly people people need to go in prepared I think for the people individually have a play and you know commit that I'm gonna have X. amount of drinks I'm gonna leave by this time and don't let yourself get out of control because that's when things go south this might be a wild question doctor Derren Martin joins us on the show is there a if you're a company is there a better day of the week to have that party would it be better to have it on a weekend it or is it better to have it on a week night so that you have an excuse to may be cut off a little bit earlier and expect everybody to be back at work the next day so the reality is people don't like doing work activities in non work hours so I I like the idea of starting at maybe in the afternoon and having a dinner or something but knock off work a couple hours early so that was really part of of the work day slow and then you know giving people just a really great experience with the lights down or something along those lines you set yourself up if you have it on Friday night starting at nine o'clock club so the tone of your you know your workplace I I think the act context in terms of where you do it and what time you do it and what day of the week I think you're dead on about that really matters and I I guess for an employee it's always a good idea to check the ground rules to see who can come with you to the party a are you is it for employees only is it for employees and spouse is is it for employees and somebody we just started dating three weeks ago I guess that's kind of critical to to to know who's supposed to be coming to these things yeah I would be careful about bring someone you just one on one date with that could be a bit of a wildcard if you do have the opportunity to bring a significant other or you know partner stopped bring up I I you know as long as you that person you long you don't have a knock down drag out all your office party but I think a great way for people to see a different side of you what people forget about the office party we talk about not getting in trouble but the other thing is Hayden leverage and use it to get to know what you know bosses managers other people in a different way and what you wanted to do is that they are leaving the party talking about you in the car on the way home in a good way Hey I really liked that person that works here Hey that's a great idea doctor Derren Martin I really appreciate you spending some time with us and hopefully we can catch up with you again really soon if we don't hear from me in the next few weeks wish you a very happy new year and appreciate your time yeah I always will be no movement at thank you again okay all right and Memphis morning news and six forty one a football back on tomorrow Tigers this is I'm not trying to make anybody nervous but it's probably the biggest game we've had in I don't know since the first bowl.
