"He really want? Anyone else? Running the show at the White House. So that seems to be one of the questions. Anybody? Submitting those resumes are going to have to ask themselves as Trump scrambles to find a replacement for John Kelly whose scheduled to depart at the end of the month. So those two questions are is there anybody who wants that chief of staff job and the second one is there anybody who would be good at it. We know you can go back to James Baker. Who was the chief of staff for George H W Bush and best friends with George H W Bush who is said to have told any incoming White House chief of staff in the best circumstances. Congratulations. You've got the worst ING job in the government job to have at the onset Noam. And with that it looks like when you see Nick Ayers, who's decided to walk away from running. He was the president, Mike. Vice President Mike Pence is chief of staff he's leaving to go back to Georgia. He's kind of left President Trump. Hanging in limbo here, and it's caused him to start vetting other candidates for the job and by other candidates. I mean, there were a steadfast three to four names on the list. Like the names, Mick Mulvaney. We also know Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin, Mark meadows, who was a Trump congress ally. Those names are still technically on the list, even though we had received reports yesterday the each and every one of those said that they were not interested in being a part of the White House chief of staff, and that they were in fact, I had heard yesterday the Mark meadows with was withdrawing his name altogether yet yesterday afternoon yesterday evening. Mark meadows was out on the press trail seeming to indicate that he would still have some interest in some kind so nixed messages across the board. A couple of other names that have come up David Bossie deputy campaign manager for Trump's twenty sixteen bit and the president and CEO of citizens United. Then you've got David urban former chief of staff to Senator Arlen Specter in Pennsylvania, and and apparently one of the big names. It was brought up yesterday and both figuratively. And literally would be Chris Christie is somebody who might be. Chief of staff candidate or possibility for president. He has no way he gets it. Right. Yeah. Every time there's some job. They say, hey, let's give it to Chris Christie, and then and then they never do. So just goes away, and he's back to consulting or doing whatever he's doing. All right. "Or maybe Nick Ayers is a winner for not taking the job. Yeah. He's like now. In fact, I'm going to depart the White House here pretty soon. So thanks everybody. But no, thanks. So Nick Ayers has been vice president Pence says right hand now. And there were rumors just as of last week that Nick Ayers was the guy he was going to be the go-to guy for the president how quickly that changed over the weekend. And it's unclear did he actually I don't know if he actually got did somebody offering the gig because how could they have John Kelly is still in office right now announced the first announced that John Kelly would leave. Right that John Kelly would leave. They started talking about Nick errors as the likely replacement. My understanding, according to the news reports is there was some discussion between President Trump, and Nick Ayers, and they couldn't come to an agreement about for example, how long would he agree to serve as chief of staff? And so they ended up saying we're not gonna do that. Now, he's still a big important part of Trump's world. He's apparently gonna go work for the super pack. That's organizing the reelection campaign. So he's going to be very involved with helping President Trump tried to get reelected, but he isn't going to be White House chief of staff, and now, of course, there's a whole list of names that may be possibly the president is considering none of which are terribly exciting. Mick Mulvaney, office of management and budget. Representative Mark meadows of North Carolina. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin. I mean, he really went with some party here. Well, we don't. But here's the thing. You know, that that Donald Trump said that all the talk that Nick errors with airs was going to be the guy he said that was fake news. So he's trying to make it sound like he was not in the front running. That's not right. One of these other rumors of these other people being under consideration may not be accurate either. Okay. One other person whose names being batted about this morning. Chris christie. I say Chris Christie, can we write that down somewhere? That's my prediction. You think it's going to be Chris because I think Chris Christie Chris Christie got dissed member in the beginning. How he would stand next to the president almost looking though like he had just eaten something bad. He had this like really awful look on his face. But it was almost like I'm gonna suck it up and just stand next to the guy because this is for the greater good for my career. He's gonna offer me position somewhere along the way. And then all of a sudden nothing. Well, now, here's the chance except Chris Christie may have blown it in which way because Chris Christie is in the media saying that he thinks the Muller team must have a lot of corroborating evidence against President Trump with the campaign finance stuff. Do you think he could spend that the very quickly? Should he be offered the White House position? Yeah. Probably. All right. Let's take a break. And then when we come back. "It is five fifty two on AM Tampa Bay. We are going to hear from fill in Saint Pete year. When will you get a chance because he's got an idea for the state bird? What it should be certainly not a northern Mockingbird. But in the meantime, Michael Bauer our NBC News Radio reporter is on board. Here this morning, and Michael we've got President Trump is going to keep I guess Kelly on until the end of the month. And then he's ringing on his replacement. Any word I know yesterday. There have been one mention of a replacement, but that guy said, Nope, he doesn't wanna do that he wants to work for Trump, but not as a chief of staff. So where do we stand right now, Jack, and that person was the chief of staff for vice President Mike Pence, Nick Ayers, this was the number one pick for President Trump this who he wanted to be his chief of staff, but we know that Nick Ayers is it relatively young guy with a relatively young family whom he wanted to get back. To that. There was the plan from the get-go that he would be leaving at the end of this year, the vice president's team to be going home to his family when the president said I'd love for you to step in his chief-of-staff. Nick, air said, okay. I'll I'll do it on a temporary basis. I mean, I can stay there till the spring, but I really want to get back to my family and President Trump said, no, this is a much longer term job than that. So as of last night, Nick Ayers, tweeting out the he has full support and fully supports the Trump administration. Thanks them for every opportunity, but that he's going to be going home to his family. So he's going to help in any way. He can. But that means in particular not taking over the chief of staff position. So that leaves the door open. We know the president announced on Saturday. The Kelly would be stepping down at the end of the year. We also know that the president said that it would be a matter of days before he would name a replacement. But now that list is obviously changing and some of the people that are at least at this point speculated to be on top of the list opposite of management and budget director, Mick Mulvaney, and you're also looking at Mark meadows, the chair of the conservative house freedom caucus sort of two names that have been long time supporters of President Trump's that maybe. Floating around in this element of who could be the next chief of staff what caused the rift and strain the relationship between President Trump and John Kelly. I'm not sure that there was one thing. I think there were a number of things we know that right off the bat. It was tough. And according to sources political confirms over the weekend the Kelly who was brought in last year to impose order in the west wing founded managing Trump was kind of an impossible task. And there had been problems surrounding that part. Whether it was the controlling of cell phone conversations, or texting or how all of that work at one point in time. President Trump allegedly walked away from using any office phones in the building to using cell phones. So that Kelly couldn't monitor them or keep track of him some level. So there's that element of it. We also know that when it comes to cure some Nielsen somebody who worked directly under Kelly and the department of homeland security chief there's this was kind of somebody that he loved and somebody that he was fighting for when you see the president constantly putting her down for the job that she's doing and looking for a replacement. This was said to have weighed on Kelly on some level as well. So it seems like there were a number of things that were going on there. But in any case, it looks like you're looking for this to end up President Trump indicating the Kelly's been a great guy and a great help. But. It's time for him to move on. Yeah. And of course, he's being criticized for all the turnover in his department in his administration. But it's been pointed out that Bill Clinton had four Chiesa staff and Obama had five, of course, they did that in eight years. And then Trump will be working on his second one. But anyway, we thank you for joining us on AM Tampa Bay, Mike, and we'll talk to you later. Have a great morning guys. Michael Bauer NBC News Radio reporter and it's five fifty five on AM.

Very shop political operative now the White House or the vice president's chief of staff question, what happened to Kelly, and if in fact airs is taking over from Kelly, what does that tell us about where the Trump presidency is headed over the next two years. Well, this country owes a lot to the Kelly family. The surf the sacrifice that he is made. But also, his son and loss of his his son. But he served two years with the Trump administration homeland security and the chief of staff by all accounts. It's a tumultuous time in the White House. We have a lot to their think Nick Ayers is proven himself with the vice president very different approach. I think than than general Kelly in what well he seems to be a very disciplined person. He does he did cut his teeth early on. And some of the campaign is us, and as we transition to twenty twenty I think it's important to know that I also think that perhaps one of the names that's out. There is Mick Mulvaney. Also in the mix, it seems like era's is gonna get it. But Mulvaney, the president I think signal that there might be an inch. Trim person in the place. And when you say, he's he's political. I mean as part of it that we're headed up towards twenty twenty and we're gonna have a Democratic Congress. You need a more politically savvy person in that job. Yeah. I think you're going to have to deal with the democrat controlled house of representatives and you couple that with the twenty twenty election right on our heels. I think you need somebody who can bridge that gap, and what the president's attention is going to be drawn towards Chuck, given how President Trump runs the shop can anyone succeed as White House chief of staff and Nick Ayers, who as I say is a very sharp political operative. He was executive director of the Republican governors association when they scored a lot of gains there he has his own critics. Yes, he does he thought to have as maybe as part of being political sought to have very sharp elbows. He's a young man in a hurry is only in his mid thirties. And that always draws a little resentment from the more experienced types, the other people who are in the mix here or Jared. Kushner and the president's daughter, Ivanka what you say they're in the mix. They're not going to be chief-of-staff. No. But they are are known to involve themselves sometimes in the affairs of the White House. And there's may have had something to do with general Kelly's departure to they have struggled all along for stability in there. And you know, at a certain point you say to yourself. Well, is it the staff or is it the president and the president thrives, it seems on conflict and instability. That's seems to be what makes him comfortable he likes as I think he said himself. He likes it. When people are in conflict around him, and then he can deal with that. So, you know, a best case scenario for this White House is that they find somebody who can hold on for the next two years till the election, but that would be different from the previous two years. Well, speaking of conflict and unfinished staff business nine months after secretary of State Rex Tillerson was dismissed incidentally, by tweed. He finally got around to talking about what it was like to work for President Trump..

Michael Cohen, the president's former lawyer and fixer has told prosecutors that President Trump then candidate Trump personally directed him to make these hush payments, buying the silence of women alleging to have had affairs with Donald Trump. And this is really the first direct evidence. From Michael Cohen that Donald Trump was involved in what could well be a violation of campaign finance laws. President Trump says Michael Cohen is a liar. And there's no other evidence aside from his comments and testimony. The Donald Trump was involved in this at all he still maintains he had nothing to do with the women and had no idea about the payments until well after they were made. But we don't know yet if individual one who is mentioned in the filings, the president was in direct contact with those people about what the Russians were doing. "But I'm just really intrigued by this. It sounds like your colleague Nick Ayers, you know, current chief of staff or the VP will probably be the president's new chief of staff, replacing general Kelly is that gonna change anything in the White House. Should we be expecting anything obvious? Well, the one thing I will tell you is very important to remember that it doesn't matter who the chief of staff is there the chief of staff and the chief of the president the president is still the president in the end the thing. I would tell you, and I would be remiss if I did not do it everyone in the vice president's office, including Nick Ayers, including the vice president myself, and so many others. We have so much respect for general Kelly, and we operate under a very simple principle. There is one White House chief of staff that chief of staff General John Kelly until the moment that the president or general Kelly decides that that there's a change key will be our one and only chief of staff, and we wanna play this this fight for you before you go. "And as an back into a corner, as we know that is a position that President Trump least likes to be in. The revolving door at the White House is spinning faster tonight as sources tell C N N A major staff shakeup is on the horizon and President Trump is growing more isolated by the day. Trump has been in a dark mood since he returned from Paris berating aids. Over a decision to cancel a planned visit to a military cemetery due to the rain, but his fury hasn't stopped. Their sources say the president is also weighing several major staffing changes and has his sights set on department of homeland security secretary Kirstin Nielsen who traveled to the southern border earlier today. I wanna thank you on behalf of Geagea Trump telling aides he's made the decision to replace Nielsen, though, it's still unclear who with Nielsen's imminent departure raising questions about the job security of the man who brought her into the White House chief of staff John Kelly amid whispers he could be replaced by the vice president's chief of staff, Nick Ayers, though, some. White House officials have threatened to quit if Trump does and one day after first lady Melania Trump issued a scathing statement calling for the firing of John Bolton's number two on the national Security Council mirror. Ricard del return to work today. And her fate remains uncertain sources say Bolton who was ten thousand miles away from Washington on a work trip with the vice president in Singapore is scrambling to save her and the episode is setting the stage for a showdown between the national security adviser. And the first lady who says she's always been candid with the president. I gave him. My honest advice. An honest opinions, but Trump was said to be blindsided by the first lady's statement, Tuesday feeling backed into a corner and complaining he looks like a boss around husband, whether riccar del stays or goes, we'll be a test on the limits of Melania's influence and the extent of Bolton's. So Jake, the president's frayed relationships are essentially being laid bare for everyone to see not just John Kelly and Kirsten Nelson, but apparently even with his own wife and her staff is well we haven't seen or heard from the president yet today, but he is scheduled to make an appearance here in the next half hour. He's going to be voicing some report for some bipartisan criminal Justice legislation. Jake Collins at the White House for us. We have a lot to talk about here. Ryan, even in a White House that has been known to have chaotic days this sense. The seems a little extraordinary law going on. I mean, it's not unusual for a White House to make major staffing changes after a shellacking in the midterms right in the nine hundred ninety four President Clinton made a lot of changes after that loss two thousand six Bush made a lot of changes two thousand ten Obama made a lot of changes, what is unusual about this White House is everything is sort of battled out in public. Right. So you have the first lady tweeting about staffing changes, right? Have the president in these sort of stream of conscious? Press encounters talking about it. So I think it's maybe a little bit more than those other examples, but also the Trump White House, you know, he governs, very, chaotic style and everything is for public consumption. I mean, he lets people twist in the wind like like Kelly has for for months now, there's just not an orderly process that you normally find after a big midterm loss for for staffing changes someone what do you make of Kaitlan Collins reporting, the President Trump really didn't like what happened yesterday with the first lady calling for this deputy national security adviser to be fired because it made him look like a boss around husband the woman, the deputy national security adviser still at work today. Apparently. But I I don't like, you know, I'm not married, and I don't have been Jake, and I don't like to. I if I did I don't want people in my business. And so I would hope that the president and the first lady could work out there, you know, home business at home. But unfortunately, the first lady has drug us into a spat with her husband. That's exactly what this is. And frankly, I want any parts of it. What would you tell? Tell us because you know, personally, a lot of these players, you you ran the the Trump campaign in Pennsylvania. What what's going on here? I don't have a clear picture what's going on?.

"Well, Paul Ryan now is talking about that op Ed yesterday. Dodging questions about Bob Woodward's book. Now being asked about the insider who is rolling on the president and his behavior. Paul Ryan says whoever wrote that anonymous op, Ed. Is living in dishonesty and should not work for the president. Ryan said today understands Trump's tweeting an unconventional tactics Bader bother people. But that Trump is producing good results. There is a there's a weird. Conundrum, I suppose the whoever wrote this finds themself and we talked about this yesterday when it came out in the one o'clock hour when we saw that the the person wrote this this anonymous op Ed piece said that the at talked about cabinet level discussion about whether or not they should invoke the twenty fifth amendment which would allow them to declare the president competent and make Mike Pence the acting president, and but they said they didn't want to precipitate a constitutional crisis. This doesn't rise to the level. This op Ed piece in this this now revelation that there is somebody in the White House that his usurping the president's authority on whatever issues, they think they're they're going to fix him on, but it is at least pointing in the direction of a constitutional crisis because our government does not allow us to elect a president. You may not like them doesn't matter. He's the president. And then have other people. Change his policy. Exactly people who are not elected. Right. We've got people. If you're going to believe what this what this op Ed piece lays out, we've got people who none of us elected running running things. Yeah.
