"What it be and welcome to another episode of the trivia with buds, podcast. I'm your host Ryan buds, thanks for checking out the show. Thanks for supporting the show by subscribing to this program on iTunes or Spotify or Google podcasts or wherever you listen to shows. And thanks for telling a friend who loves trivia to check it out. Today's episode is for a Patreon subscriber named Manny Cortez longtime friend in real life and on the show and Manny has picked the topic of Nicolas Cage movies from 2015 to 2023. So these will be very specific questions about cage's career over the last 7, 8 years or so. But if you followed some of those crazy independent films he's done, then you'll be A-okay. Before we jump into our trivia, I do want to say we had an error on an episode recently, it was famous duos, and I think I had the wrong year. It was supposed to be 1979, 1980 NBA season. I was looking for the pairing of Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, the first year they started playing together and won their first championship. And I think I had the answer is 19 or I had part of the question is 1975. And Magic Johnson, not on the team at that time. I found that out because I was doing it at a live show and somebody said, hey, I think you mean 79, and I said, oh, good catch. So whenever I do catch those, if I've recorded them on the podcast, I try to shout them out, but there you have it. It was 1979, 1980, not 1975 for the famous duos, Magic Johnson cream, Abdul jabbar. Question on that episode from a week or two ago. Before we jump into today's questions on Nicolas Cage movies, 2015 and on, we've got these three warm up questions for television. What Sesame Street character had to adjust to no longer being the baby in the family when his sister curly bear was born. Next one, what Olympic skier was dubbed Susie chap stick after she appeared in umpteen lip balm ads. That is Susie chaffee, Suzy chaffee, and chaffee ChapStick. It sounds very, very close, so that's a good match up there. And what airline finally retired, it's friendly sky's slogan after three decades in 1997. That was united united. There you have it. We're all warmed up. We're ready to rock and roll and we're diving into Nicolas Cage movies 2015 and on. Here we go. Nicolas Cage movies, let's see what you know about the madman. Kevin Sorbo on His New Film 'Left Behind: Rise of the Antichrist'

"I always joke around if somebody says such and such a film is Christian film. And I say, excuse me, is Kevin serbo in it, and they go, no, then it's not a Christian film, okay? That's just biblical, yes or no? Is he in it? No, it's not a Christian film. I just want to be clear. This, however, what we're going to talk about today or one of the things we're going to talk about is a new film, which is going to be in theaters. It's a fathom event January 26th called left behind rise of the Antichrist, starring Kevin sorbo, Corbin berenson, rise of the Antichrist, sounds like a bummer. It's a little bit revelation in there, right? This takes place 6 months after the rapture. And the movie that portrayed that came out about 8 years ago for the Lafayette guys for the cloud ten guys based up in Toronto in the role that I took over from Nicholas cage is the rayford steel roll, the role of the pilot. And I was very fortunate to direct this one as well. What? Wait a minute. You directed this film. All right, now then ladies and gentlemen, I apologize for saying that it could be a bummer 'cause no matter what, if Kevin is starring in an and directed it, I'm just assuming it's going to be inspiring.

Eric and James Howard Kunstler Reminisce About the Rabbit Ears Series

"To James Howard kunstler, also known as Jim, Jimmy Jimbo. Jimmy Jack. Jim reverend Jimmy. So we were just talking about rabbit ears. So yeah, so in the late 80s, early 90s, I got this job that I've started director of gravity, and I thought, who can I turn to who could write these stories? So you did just great work. And rabbit ears would, so we create this children's book, but then we get top Hollywood names to record them. I think the Davy Crockett was like Nicholas cage. And sacagawea, I don't remember who did that one. I'm pretty sure it was mom's maybelle. I'm almost, I'm almost certain that I don't. It was either mom's maybelle or Sinatra. Either one. One of those two. But then we would get amazing musicians. Garrison keeler. Yeah. Can you use his name now? Is it safe to say garrison? I think he wants his touched a woman's back. When they were taking a photo and he lost his career over that thing. Goodness. Marco Connor, the fabulous Marco Connor, did the music for that. It was quite a fantastic production of video. Well, that's the point is that the rabbit hair stuff was super accurate to one tons of awards. So I had the privilege of writing many of those. And my name is attached to these Grammy Awards for best children's recording 1989 or something like that. I think that one too. Yeah, I know. It's crazy. So but that's kind of like the last time I saw you in person. Was 1991.

How Nicholas Cage Prepared for His 'Windtalkers' Role

"For this movie, according to IMDb at least, Nicholas cage actually learned the Navajo language. Even though he's I mean, he really, he's a method actor, so he probably learned some Japanese too. Yeah. Even though his character didn't speak, never spoke Navajo, but they were said in this article and IMDb that cage said he did it to better understand the script, but John whoo maintained that cage had misunderstood the character, which he had been cast, so who knows what the truth is. But yeah, he speaks some Japanese in the movie. That's pretty interesting.

Why Do Women Keep Marrying Nic Cage?

"Nick cage is gonna be around doing interviews, which is a good thing because he's no, he's not gonna win an Oscar, but he did get some noise for the movie, the pig, which is really fun. It's good. It's one of the most serious movies he's made in a while. And I think he was really good in the film. So he's made the circuit with interviews, and it's always fun when he's on this circuit because he says, while things in it, make sure you think about his life again. And he's one of the most colorful people we have in Hollywood. But no matter how weird he gets women, keep marrying this guy. His latest wife is 27 years old. I think they're always 27. Nicholas cage keeps getting all the wives stay 27, I think. And at one point, this wife RICO shibata, Japanese chick at one point, she said, I do want to eventually divorce you. She said that to him last February. But he's telling the press now, she's a keeper. I know 5s a lot, but I think I got it right this time. Isn't this interview in the LA times? He mentions that he loves his cat Merlin, who he calls his best friend. I get it. Tootsie is my best friend, I think. And of course, his son's Weston and kal el and he has two other animals, a cat named tigre and a crow named hoogan who lives in a geo geodesic dome in his Las Vegas home. I don't know what that means. But he doesn't list the two pets on his favorite things, but he says tigra, the cat doesn't give a shit. If he's second place to Merlin and Merlin, this guy is so fucking

One of the icons of the film industry in regards to weaponries an expert. He even gets able when he's not an armor. He gets asked to be consultant. He's just kind of like a legend. I'm sure nepotism played a role. And let's not get into the nepotism. Hollywood which is a huge deal but hannah was only twenty four years old had never had any experience and the first job she ever got was a movie with nicholas cage so she went on stoop. But but she would go on set and sometimes she would just shoot the guns to check them without telling anybody so she did at once or next to nicholas cage and he went nuts and he says make an announcement screaming at her. You just blew my my up up up eardrums out. He then walked upset in a rage and went to the assistant director and says she needs to be let go. She needs to be gone and they didn't fire but she did it again. And he said we're moving too fast. I was so ticked off but we are moving too fast and she was a rookie inch. Could couldn't keep up. Another interesting situation was guitarist. Did a podcast before the old way. And here's where exact quotes. I was really nervous about it. At first almost intake the job because a wedding scher. The other one that was in charge of the weapons of the rust is assistant director. David halls now. He was famous in two thousand and three. I believe he did one of the matrix movies He was the assistant director on the matrix movies so he he has experienced but he also has a history it said in two thousand nineteen there was actually a situation where a gun Went off on a movie he did. Is that the one we're waiting for? I think there was general excitement around the studio and among the listeners for cocaine bear. I forgot all about that. But, yes, yes. Looking forward to cocaine Bear. Story for those who don't know that I don't know. Wow. Wow. Can you imagine if that bear had been on cocaine and not just protecting her cubs? Oh, my goodness. If you don't know the story of cocaine bear is and it's It's a true story from like Kentucky or Tennessee or Arkansas or whatever, basically Somebody flew over and dropped a load of package of cocaine. This wilderness area. Um, you know, it's got a very that American made vibe that Tom Cruise movie, and so they dropped it there in the middle of the woods and so that the drug dealer could go pick it up. Unfortunately, before the local drug dealer could go get the thing of cocaine. A black bear ate it. And so And, uh, obviously got now you've got to bear on cocaine, and they're going to make a whole movie out of that. So we're waiting for that. But check this one out. Nicholas, Nick Nicholas Cage. Set to be a star in a new movie coming up. Let's see here in April of next year. That's the release date. The unbearable weight of massive talent. So in the film, Nicolas Cage will play Nicolas Cage kind of So help play a version of Nicolas Cage that is described as, um An erotic, high strung, anxiety ridden I don't know. I just assumed Nicolas Cage is kind of high strung and anxiety ridden. That Means said in the movie, he'll play a version of himself that is who a Mexican billionaire drug lord is obsessed with. But i don't wanna dying ironic death in so we've been going through this and this is really good and here's the question that that maybe you have to speculate on a little bit but you know you looked at the anti gmo movement. The trends that happened in terms of fear that used syringes in food. How much of an over layer overlapped you see with the way that the same trends between fear distrust. A group promoting a false agenda using misinformation and disinformation. How much does that match with. What we've seen in the cova space. That's an interesting connection. So the discussion. One can propose that perhaps the discussion of cohen nineteen and the suspicion of covert nineteen in some quarters. That discussion began many many years before the pandemic ever occurred right who having discussions about science and scientific questions consumers were becoming increasingly skeptical about of scientific knowledge and what scientists say is is scientifically safe or unsafe right and that's from the proliferation of misinformation and disinformation and so we had each. We have citizenry. "Cook person it was constantly trying to force food on us as a way of kind of like keeping the family happy together and so food had this sort of very emotionally powerful be positive or negative kind of meaning for me So so. I think i had sort of the emotional connection and then beyond that i just kind of thought of it as just any artistic industry I just thought of as rob's art form and that was easier for me to wrap my head around. Okay so walk me through the steps of how you get nicholas cage interest interested in a script in twenty twenty one but what are the process. Step-by-step super complicated. You send it to his agents and As the script was going around a wfan endeavor. became interested in it and they had recently signed him and they were looking for projects firm and they said you know maybe this could be a good script for neck and my initial reaction was kind of i had never thought of him for it. and it was immediately kind of like well. That's interesting i don't know like do you think he'd actually wanna do it do you think. Is this the kind of stuff he wants to do so i. i didn't think honestly too much about it. Because you send your script out to lots of people and they. They read it producers actors. Whatever and you see. If it clicks with anyone he read it pretty quickly And immediately just kinda responded to it emotionally and wanted to do it And yeah i mean it. It doesn't i mean it wasn't as complicated as i would have thought i think it was just a matter of it happened to be a character that he really responded to and so he just really wanted to do it and then then it makes things a little easier. Can you describe the first meeting and conversation that you guys had what you talk about. You know we had had brunch and we. We gave them a comic book comic books which even which comic book i gave him. A stereotype polyp. I don't. I don't know it's it's very good. I recommend it. I still don't know if he's read it. it's a good one But it's about kind of this It's a very good. It's a very good comic. I recommended And then we just kind of sat and you know went through a couple of questions about the script but like it quickly became clear that he was pretty on board with the script. He really understood the ins and outs of it and related to it on a personal level So it was. You know it wasn't really having to convince each other. It was kinda just okay you get it. Get it Great that's i think we're all on the same page it it wasn't. I mean it was very exciting and it was cool to feel like okay. This is this is going to be the leader of the movie. And this is rob and And he really understands it on a deep emotional level like it was that it was exciting but also just kind of a relief in kind of a. Yeah that's that's that's what we need world set like it was you know both exciting and also not all that surprising in grand and it was just kind of awesome. Let's go make a movie from the outside. He has such a complex reputation as a performer. Because he works a lot. He's obviously legendary in many respects but also sometimes it feels like he will take on any kind of part and his performance can really modulate in terms of how big or how interior it is. Is there any part of you as a first time director. It is nervous about working with someone who could really vacillate in any direction in your film. Yeah i mean honestly. I think after the first time meeting him. I was not nervous about that..

"I'm not saying that wasn't cool. But i am saying that if saudi was over blowing the shit out of that feature like they were like they only they showed you that big like setpiece at the beginning of the game but then it's like the happens one other time in. That's all like that doesn't happen all throughout the it kind of made you think that those refs were a big part of the game what it was mainly just like a thing to get from this point to that point of the for the minority. That is exactly true. That is that is exactly but in a way most trailers are that most every nicholas cage movie doesn't have him just do well to highlight not nicholas cage. Maybe i should. I yeah cages. Probably that but you get my drift. They'll show movie this action seeing this at and sometimes they're not even at the same time when you watch trailer you'd be like oh it looks like they're interacting and you'll watch the moving go. Oh wow those are those guys. don't even interact in the movie or what have you. I'm not too bothered by that. I did mention it my review though that it it is a big deal but that that first scene was sort of in that they did into so. I can't say it was like once but there was about this instead of saying they only did it twice. We would have liked to have seen it done more. Yes that's true. That's positive spin on. "In pig nicholas cage plays a grouchy meditative hermit and gives his best performance in years by stephanie's mccarrick at one time the era of moonstruck of leaving las vegas of wild at heart. Many people thought nicholas cage was the greatest living american actor then perhaps as a means of financing is purchase of multiple castles. He began accepting roles indiscriminately and performing in them indifferently. His huge international bankability as an action star probably didn't help all he really had to do is show up and collect the money. It became hard to have any idea of who this performer. This habitual maker of questionable choices actually was it became harder to love him. A pig now brings the old nicholas cage back to us in pig a strange and wonderful movie as direct as its stubby. Little title cage plays a hermit a woolly mammoth of a man who lives alone or merely alone in the woods of the pacific northwest. His only companion. The only one he cares to have is a truffle. Hunting pig whose name we never learned if she even has won the movies i eight minutes or so established the warmth of this duos relationship with her gentle sniffling. The pig helps the man locate truffles. As the sun streams through the cathedral of conifers. Around them her for is red and surprisingly soft looking. She has a swing -i tassell capped tale back at his ramshackle little hut. Our disheveled loaner rewards her with a nicely prepared dinner of something or other. He makes a little tart for himself folding nubs of hard butter into a pile of flower. A few granules of which float down around his pig comrades radiant upturned face like a benediction the very beginning of pig is so tranquil and restorative. You might wish it could go on forever or somehow be repackaged as a sleep aid a sort of visual lullaby to calm a racing brain. The cinematographer here is patrick. Scola but pig is actually a thriller of sorts at least until it twists and becomes something else a sort of guidebook for really thinking about this shape. You want your life to take. Our hermit will later learn his name as rob trades his truffles for necessary goods. His dealer is a wannabe slick..

The Glass I Love and the Glass I Use

"This is digital story podcast number seven, Fifty, eight September Twenty Ninth Two Thousand Twenty today's a theme is the glass I love and the glass I use. I'm Derek Story. No doubt one of the best investments any artists can make. is in quality photography lenses and I do have some beauties. But what's fascinating to me is that I have lenses that I absolutely love and would be very reluctant to let go up and then I have those optics that are used on a daily basis. and. The funny thing is the two aren't always the same. I'll explain why on today's TVs photography podcast. So. Before I get into that glass itself, it's funny when I was writing this podcast made me think of a scene from moonstruck really terrific movie with share and Olivia Caucus Nicholas Cage. Just an outstanding story in great cast the whole deal. So share comes home one night and I think her mom was up in her bedroom. And share went into say good night tour after she had seen Nicholas Cage, she had started seeing him. And her mom you. Ask her what she's been doing and share told her. And her mom Olivia Dukakis Goes D love them and share goes Ma I think I do. And Olympia Dukakis goes I'm so sorry. I'm not exactly sure why I'm thinking of that story while I'm thinking about these lenses that I love and the ones that I like. Other than I think what Olympia Dukakis was saying is that when you love them, you end up having this attachment. That you stick with through thick and thin whereas if you just like them maybe a right thing start to go south and you're okay with partying ways and you know these lenses. I'm going to talk about a kind of fall into these two categories and it was fascinating to me because. I think going through my inventory because I'm not shooting as much right now because for obvious reasons, all my jobs are higher are no more right now I do find myself going back. Into, my inventory and just making sure the cameras are working. You know just checking things just keeping everything ready so that when life comes back I'm ready to go. and. I've discovered Dan I have lenses that I'm using right now. I use them all the time and then I'll come across a lens in the Lens Safe and I go oh, I love this land so much but maybe haven't shot with it for a month two months three months but yet I wouldn't let go of that Lens basically no matter what and maybe the lenses I'm using everyday right now Okay. Go. That's Kinda weird. Isn't it? It's kind of very interesting. You know what I'm GonNa do today is I'm going to talk about five lenses and I'm not gonNa tell you. which category they go into rather the like or left category I'm just gonNA describe the lenses can have you guess along the way and then at the end I'll tell you the answers. Okay. So we're going to have a little fun today to illustrate that point I. WanNa to tell you about one lens from my past that I definitely loved, and that was the Canon e F eighty, five, millimeter f one eight and I bought this lens decades ago I mean back when I was shooting weddings with a else Alon thirty five millimeter film camera, I bought that lands. About three hundred, fifty dollars then which is a fair of change you know when you're just getting started with your career but at the same time, it was more affordable than other lenses this class. And I mean, I just love the short shortely because it was fast F. One point eight it was light. had very quiet focus the ultrasonic motor was just terrific on it was a good looking land. And most importantly, it took great pictures I mean really great pictures. In fact, one of the metal prints that I have hanging in the studio downstairs was captured with that lens on a cannon five D in Washington DC. and. Hanging on the wall downstairs. Then you know you are in rarefied Erica's that's the stuff I have to look at every day. In a better be good. Alright. That'd be good. that. Lands is responsible for that shop. Here's the funny thing as much as I loved that Lens I didn't shoot with it that often. I mean normally I would have zoom on the camera body I in the film days. But then even later on when I got the five d and the five d mark to I'd have something on there like the e F twenty, four to one. Oh, five, a four and. That's what I shot with most of the time. And then every now, and then for some reason, sometimes, I didn't even really know why I would pull out the eighty five f one eight and I go sheet with that or I'm going to put it in my bag today or whatever candidates cradle it carefully and said it in there. And then when I shot with it, it was always just sort of this wonderful experience and I go. Wow that's a kind of an interesting phenomenon how this went with this lens

The confusing world of potting mix ingredients

"There is a huge and confusing world of blunt potting mixes out there. You've ever stood in the garden center. bags and not quite sure what to buy. Then I'm here to help and I've elicit another expert to odd that up on the matter my guest this week missed a house plot. Ak Vlada Nicholas Cage is a house plant care specialist from Washington, D. C. With a huge following on Instagram, and he also makes them pretty awesome tiktok videos to I. I came across him via a wonderful Tiktok where he was doing a matchup between computer games and House Plant Care, which is absolutely brilliant. Open link to that in the show notes because we're GONNA be doing some decoding of posing mixes I'm working out exactly what you need I. Guess. The first question is, do you need to make your own bespoke potting mixes from individual ingredients or can I buy something off the shelf? Here's missed the house plans thoughts on the matter. There are two general types of wanting me sold out there. You have mixed plants for succulents and CACTI. We'd succulent Yes. The lot of them are good in you could use straight out of the bag. However with tropical makes in most cases for most Hobby House from growers. This use some extra of the bag. The main reason is most of these commercial makes or not or. Yes. It's all about the holes. POROSITY is really important concept to grasp when it comes to choosing your house plant potting mixes and the truth is that not all hose grated equal in soil water narrow held in for spacey's in between particles in these horse can be different sizes. We can generally classify his micro pores or lower floors in microprocessors smokers. These breweries they're often leads it to the naked eye while Mike reports are not in my reporters important for who who'd area because they hold oxygen. Whereas Mike reporters are important for absorbing holding water so It's important to maintain both adequate. In water supply for all planned growth in a city to have both micro in. In the soil. In when they say the most policies aren't enough. They don't have a lot of these reports. They don't provide a lot of Austin for the roads. In order to have a good solid structure, it has both micro might reports you need a goods ratio of small medium, large particles in particles of different sizes. Probably most commercial mixes the problem is a they contained mostly Moss, which consists of very fine particles. So you'd have only only fine particles the slow only pretend micro voice, which means it will retain water. You won't have a lot of oxygen into also compact very easily. If you've listened tonight sustainability episodes, then hopefully, you'll have some awareness of the sustainability issues that are surround Pete and its use in house plan compost. But it remains the fact that many many production nurseries still supply their house plants in potting mixes that contain an extremely high level of Pete. So how come those nurseries can grow plants the look amazingly lush and well but when we get those plants into our homes with and don't change the potting mix they start to struggle well, fortunately Vlad's on hand to explain that as well when a plant is getting locked to light it photosynthesis more and as a result three, pulling more water from the soil. What this means, the roots will not be sitting in west, salt for a long time. So the chances overthrow brought will be low. And this is why plant nurseries can grow in these next. Nurseries provide huge amounts of light. They have ruled stay have walls made out of glass. Fifty Times more than the plants in our homes. So nurseries actually need party makes they retain a lot of water which is why they can use these leaks. Straight out of the bag, but the problem with growers is bid. We don't have this salon life in our homes and. Most people even if they do have a lot of wife. Did Not provide to their clans is deeply usually choose plan place from based on that where to look good noth- according to how much light is to get in a plant doesn't get a good amount of lights it will synthesize less and. Pulling less water from the soil meaning, they will be sitting sweat soil longer and increase. Should you be changing the soil on your new house plants? The me get them home from the nursery. This is a subject of enormous debate in various house plant forums. But here's Vlad take plants in nurseries. They usually go through periods of very. Intense growth and the soil that the coming could be. Deficient imaging by the time you get them. So if plans is Lutheran deficiency, of course when giving new so soon as you can continue developing well, also there is accumulation of salts in the soil over time, they will burn the roads. So the longer you leave a plan inside soil more damaging will have on the roads. So If a plant needs to be deported usually. Again.

Joker, Commentary

"Going to be a podcast her everyone laughed at me well no one's laughing now and Stewart and this is the host who always has negative thoughts Jacob joker a movie that I could not believe have the height around it that it did I can't recall the last time a superhero film was Ben so polarizing I mean people worried about shootings in theaters people saying Joaquin deserves an Oscar yeah it was all over the place coming out of Toronto Oh this is going to be the film of the year it's going to get all the Oscars and then Todd Phillips director opens his mouth and got a lot of backlash for what he thought we're comedy was these days yet all the place with this film that said I got to say this one took me by surprise I assumed that DC was in free fall. I mean we have all commented on how their output has been inconsistent can we all agree at best putting it nicely right that they have not had the scene unless nece that the Marvel Universe has been able to bestow on all of their works when I heard they were doing a one off joker movie I was like that sounds like a bad idea story are you getting those marvel paycheck saying they're in free fall I mean wonder woman made one of a billion dollars off man made a billion dollars what kind of free was that will somebody say well I don't care what the hardcore people think the truth of the matter is a lot of their movies have stone DOC and they've not consistent the fact that we have a one of joker movie this joker that we're told will never appear with Batman what the hell are they doing marvel would never do that is what I guess I would say sure but I don't mind that like what is the best spider man film Spiderman entered the spider verse like that is not connection to the m. c. you or what Sony is doing with Tom Allen's spider manoeuvres etta any of that so I don't mind a one off if you can just pull off a good movie I don't care if it's in any kind of continuity villain standalone movies making a Superhero movie without a superhero has not been something I've thought has worked before I mean Holly Aries cat-woman Tom Hardy thinom they could never figure out how to do sinister of six I mean you could even probably throw the Star Wars prequels into that concept having the super villain story told without a counterpoint of heroism where's our entry point who are we supposed to be with and what are they going to accomplish the you mentioned marvel I think that DC here is taking a cue from Marvel's newest acquisition Fox Todd Phillips talked about how it took a lot of convincing at Warner Brothers to let him do an R. rated joker movie but that was the only thing he was pitching and he's literally hearing responses from Warner brothers like we sell joker pajamas at target what are you going to do to our character that might hurt Pyjama sales and look at the roads that deadpool paved and I think even more specifically logan going more dramatic and being R. rated you can't beat marveled by playing Marvin those game the way you beat marvelous by making your own Fox did that and nobody is even see new mutants because nobody knows what to do with it again the X. Men horror movie yeah they've experimented sometimes those experiments have been successful I'm just saying approaching this project hearing the we're going to do a one off film about the region of joker seemed like a waste of time I was not excited about this movie at all until I saw the trailer Yeah Al admit I mean after seeing what happened to jared Leto in jokers role in suicide squad. We'll see at that movie he doesn't think he was in that movie enough he's got a scene it was not overly excited to see what they would do with joker now what I will say is somewhere at this very moment jared Leto has pissed Yeah Joaquin Phoenix get attached this because that's what I would have gotten excited you know he's one of those actors like Tom Hardy who's like a Nicholas cage who is just going to make some decisions and go with them they could be czar. They could be captivating like that trailer yeah they really tapped into Martin Scorsese in that taxi driver field but I was even more excited about Joaquin Phoenix playing this role and should be pointed out he is the man that would be doctor strange he has quartered comic book movies before and walked away saying this is not really for me why do this one he was also offered the role of Bruce Banner the reason he didn't do them he didn't WanNa sign multi picture contracts he didn't want to do what Chris Evans and Robert Downey junior did where the next seven years of your life you're working basically as a day player for marvel here it's a one picture deal and the ways they got him on board for this one it was Todd Phillips again Joaquin was connected from the very beginning and the Pitch Phillips gave him is we're going to make a real movie but we're going to get warner brothers to fifty million dollars for it by calling it fucking joker yeah how did Todd Phillips and doing this because I've seen a lot of his films old cool that hangover trilogy these are not things that I associate with a Gritty New York Scorsese style film you saying that and coach when I look at this filmography I hadn't seen most of what he meant. Yeah they're bad comedies well he makes kind of comedy I don't patronize the I'm not ever interested in watching skin hutch that's just not something I'm going to see I did see war dogs which I actually thought it was a little underrated I thought it was pretty good it's okay yeah kind of fell apart at the end yeah thought it was decent as well and it was four dogs that actually got this happening as he was at an early screening of war dogs with Warner brothers and realize is is exact phrase was war dogs wasn't going to set the world on fire as so he started talking to Warner about what could we make that's going to really get attention and do a little bit more be a little more provocative look way down on his resume his first film and you might actually see why he really got the Gig I was doc I didn't realize I had always heard about this documentary about the punk icon singer G- yeah I did not know top Phillips did that I have seen it ooh those are some live performances you wanna be careful with he strips down throws a species tough stuff to watch yeah I watched the movie I was like Oh I've always wanted to see it this gives me an lent reason it may be the closest of all his films to joker it begins with an actual endorsement from John Wayne Gay see another killer clown so yeah brutal I don't know that I'm telling people I recommend that experience be prepared I don't say this lightly it is very punishing it is very hard set is provocative and ways a lot of people probably want appreciate but you can't see a director who's very much trying to confront a freak entertainer and I do think at a core G G Allen and joker are two sides of the same coin so I would be interested to see a guy that came from punk rock bring a punk rock aesthetic to of joker movie if we must Gotcha Joker Origin Story. I WanNa say though I'm hesitant because I mean I always liked the way Keith Ledger played it how did I get my scars there's a danger and telling US definitively how joker came to exist right. There's something about the mystery we want to leave I've always liked the mystery the funny thing and you can go back to books and Nachos where in our talks about the killing joke written by Alan Moore the joker says I always change my story but here's the version I'm going to tell of my own gin and they tell an origin story and then just as origin story we're just GonNa make that the real thing but yeah I've always preferred him to be like Batman rewritten so obsessed with origin Martha Thomas Wayne Getting Killed and the pearls and walking out Zora all of that that has been told so many times joker being the opposite of Batman I liked that you just this mysterious chaotic clown figure that comes out of nowhere yeah I've definitely was thinking the killing joke when watching this and how it took elements of that in that Comic Book Joker was a failed stand up comedian who was kind of down on his luck in a rundown older Gotham city but I came in I think we might be seeing virtually and adaptation of the killing joke minus all the Batman stuff no they definitely go in a different direction with this but it gave them a good starting point and joker said he likes his origin story to be multiple choice. DC is having both ways they're gonNa make their continuity multiple choice switch movies do you want and continuity go ahead that's weird for me that we're seeing something that I should not think of as a comic book movies essentially what they're telling me don't worry I'll have nothing to do with Zam Aquaman wonder woman and all of that I mean did they even have that DC logo they have that old school Warner Brothers logo show up no DC logo okay and yet I mean it's not just your average comic book movies this movie's doing bigger than a lot of films I mean it's opening bigger than the average thor film it's maybe not topped here it's not spiderman but I'm not really it's no atman though it's beaten that man right yeah this is going to have a ninety million joining in the US. The biggest October release of all time is it Halloween in the mood for something kind of scary after it we want another killer oh but it's shocking to me the box office for what essentially feels a little art film is so huge and that it's rated R. You can't get teenagers in which is where marvel makes its money is they are aiming specifically at thirteen to seventeen year old market with their PG thirteen films and yes adults can like it in younger kids can like it but they're keeping that content for a rated R. Film in an error where in my experience it's much harder for young people to get into a rated R. Film that it made this much money is shocking to me I expected it to do well I didn't expect it to break venoms record

Todd Phillips Joaquin Phoenix Warner Brothers DC Joker Marvel Director Jared Leto United States Jacob Toronto Martin Scorsese Stewart Oscar Batman Nicholas Cage BEN Keith Ledger Tom Hardy

WeWork's Wi-Fi security is trash (The Daily Charge, 9/19/2019)

"Today on the daily charge our first look at the new and improved galaxy fold impossible burgers now at a store near you and we worked. WIFI is woefully weak. Good morning and welcome few CENEX daily charged. It's Thursday September nineteenth. I'm Joanie soften and here art. Today's stories we work likes to pitch itself as a rising tech giant but the company apparently isn't so tech savvy to to put protections on the Wi fi at offers offices rents out the people just looking for a place to work and that's exposing astronomical amounts of Data Alfred Westbound on here so we were it's Wifi. Everyone is on the same wifi network with the same password that goes on at every building so if I know the pastor from one we work. I know the password at like like the majority of we were in New York City so a not safe really bad and also they don't do basic security things on their wifi network like client isolation so they go on the Wifi at a hotel room. I can't see what everyone else is doing on that same Wifi if they have like client isolation which just says I can only see what's on on my own traffic. I can't piece onto other people's traffic. It's very basic security. Measure most hotels are doing this. Most places have shared wildfire doing this. We weren't does not a company that is valued at forty six billion dollars with more than half a million members working out of their everyday of all these startups that have these sensitive documents on their network does not provide basic security measures like that they do provide something called a private villain where which is similar to it but it's a little bit more secure her if you want to pay an extra ninety five dollars a month and two hundred fifty dollars for setup even though people already pay like more than a thousand dollars for rent there they are not providing wireless security measures. We've seen a lot of really sensitive documents from these startups had seen like bank account passwords. log in information like insurance policies job applications. One of the things in your story that really stuck out to me is that it's not only people who work at we work and and are using their WIFI. It's also people are exposed if they simply unknowingly send something to somebody that's working at a we work on the wife. Is that right yeah. We had seen companies that had never worked out. We work but their files were exposed on. We works network because there were working with startups that had been at we were room recalling some of these companies and saying hey do you workout a we work because your documents are on there like network and they said No. We've never really were based out of Connecticut. We've never been in a we were and it turns out. Hey like they worked if somebody that did so even if you never set foot in a we work like if you're working with somebody that does and doesn't you know put on these security measures your documents documents are probably exposed them. We worked network so the things that you've found you only got just a tiny snapshot hostile things that could be exposed in that Snapshot Snapshot. You saw things that are on like the really ridiculous ridiculous in two different ways ridiculous for being like silly and ridiculous for being like. I can't believe that that's just out there for people to the crap. They know how yeah one of the photos that I'd seen. There was a birthday card with like photoshop of Nicholas Cage face on a cat pretty harmless to be exposed on the network but there there were other documents. They're like I had mentioned bank account passwords job. Applications lawsuits were on it because there was a there's like law firms uh-huh based out of that we work like a startup law firm like it's just there and I saw lawsuit related to earn that should not be openly on the network like that right well moving on you may remember the first reviews for Samsung's galaxy. Fold phone didn't go so hot. Some reviewers thought the screen had that little sheet the plastic. You're supposed to peel off when you get anything. That wasn't what it was. It was a protective layer. It was integral to the design and a bunch of reviewers ruined the nearly two thousand thousand dollar phone but the new redesigned fold is finally out and there are a few tweaks what's different unfortunately the noticeable protective layer is now gone so. I can't break the phone by just peeling it. I think they have more like secure seals at the edge of the display now plastic caps at the two points to keep dust lost out. You know you really should not have a two thousand dollar phone that can be defeated by dust and the hinge like that gap is a little bit smaller which I guess is something people might have complained about i. I think the phone is the same as same as well. Yeah I mean we'll have to see how easily it breaks just by folding it which you're supposed to do anyway which like its main feature. Maybe it'll still break. I don't know but I think we've had better reviews of at this time around and finally today the impossible Burger. It's moving to grocery stores the fake meat was the buzz of CAS this year and previously it was only available in restaurants but it may not be at a grocery store born near you quite yet just twenty seven Gilson's supermarkets in southern California. We'll get it starting tomorrow. The company says it will add more stores on the East Coast later later this month and it should be available in supermarkets across the US by the middle of next year so at twelve months package will cost nine dollars. What do you think I mean. I'm probably by it like just to see how it is. I'd rather get that go to or something that has it actually the Burger King near my house is offering it and I walked in and I was hit with this era era of like fast food blasting. I'm good and I turn around one way to cook this in the comfort of my own home one day right yeah and that's maybe one of the plus size is that ah their mission is to replace. It's a it's an ambitious mission that it's replaced animals as a technology by twenty thirty that's extremely Dystopia dystopia and when you frame it that way they wanna get rid of the animals out of the food chain and if they're going to do that it can't just be in restaurant so also just eat vegetables that what is people have been doing that way before this fake meat trend so. I don't understand why everyone's jumping on this now when you can literally eat vegetables instead the thing is people. Don't not just like vegetables people like me. I don't I don't eat meat but people like me and that's probably why for the daily charge. I'm Joan. I'm offering thanks for joining us can't get enough check out the daily supercharge our extended post show with special features audience cuny an indepth reviews available now wherever you get your podcasts.
