"Now, let's get to the reading. Tonight where relaxing with a classic of. Politics. The prince by Niccolo Machiavelli. Translated by W K Mary, it. Published by J M Denton, sons London in Nineteen Oh eight. Let's begin. Introduction. Niccolo Machiavelli was born at Florence on the third of May fourteen, sixty nine. He was the second son of Bernardo did Niccolo, Machiavelli. A lawyer of some repute. And, a Portola Mia. Distefano Nellie. His wife. Both parents were members of the old Florentine nobility. His life falls naturally into three periods, each of which singularly enough constitutes a distinct and important era in the history of Florence. His youth was concurrent with the greatness of Florence as an Italian power under the guidance of Lorenzo Domenici Il Magnifico. The downfall of the MEDICI in Florence occurred in fourteen, ninety, four in which year Machiavelli entered the public. Service. During his official career. Florence was free under the government of a republic which lasted until fifteen twelve when the MEDICI return to power and Machiavelli lost his office. The MEDICI again rolled Florence from fifteen twelve until fifteen, twenty seven when they were once more out. This was the period of Machiavelli literary activity and increasing influence. But he died within a few weeks of the expulsion of the MEDICI. On Twenty Second June fifteen twenty seven in his fifty eighth year without having regained office. Although there is little recorded of the youth of Machiavelli. The Florence of those days is so well known that early environment of this representative citizen may be easily imagined. Florence has been described as a city with two other currents of life one directed by the fervent Indus- dear Savonarola. The other by the splendor luffing Lorenzo. SAVONAROLA's influence upon the young Machiavelli. have been slight. For although at one time he wielded. Power over the fortunes of Florence. He only furnished Machiavelli with the subject of a jibe in the prince. where he is cited as an example of an unarmed prophet who came to a bad and. Whereas, the magnificence of the MEDICI in rule during the life of Lorenzo appeared to have impressed Machiavelli strongly for he frequently recurs to it in his writings and it is to Lorenzo's grandson that he dedicates the prince..
Zion leaves NBA bubble for 'urgent' family matter
"All right one to turn to this story from inside the bubble, and it's a big one the Pelicans announcing yesterday the Williamson left the NBA bubble yesterday morning. Because of under undisclosed urgent family medical matter now Williamson intends to return at some point here's this coach Alvin Gentry. Don't know anything right now from the standpoint of. Coming back and you know obviously us. We've discussed supportive. Amina's family and their privacy doing this time right now, you know. We played forty four games without him and. You know we have top stretching, and we also had a stretch for. We won twelve out of sixteen. Without Him, so obviously, he's a great player that we'll miss, but the one thing that we've always talked about even when we went through times is that. Next Man. Marc Spears joins US live from inside the bubble at Disneyworld mark. Seems a little unclear as to why he left. What are you hearing about that about why he left at this point? Look the PELICANS are keeping it really really close to the vest, and they've been like that all all season. Way Him, you know this is still a teenager very very protective of their future star, and it's a family matter so I certainly understand that, but when it comes to him coming back, Ryan is really complicated. Absence of seven days or less, he s a quarantine. Four days upon return to the bubble with negative tests needed each day. Longer than a week. He has quarantine for four days. If he has a negative test the final day seven days he has gone. Without a required COA testing he will quarantine for ten days, so the Pelicans will debut. On July thirtieth they're one of four teams that play in the first day to resumption. It's not a lot of time between now, and then they have their first criminals, and just a few days, so yeah. The PELICANS certainly have a lot to worry about in their hopes of trying to get back to the playoffs, Yeah and we certainly wish Zion Williamson, and is it well with this family matter I mean that's first and foremost here hoping they're okay, but I look at this as well and I say without him. What are their chances of moving far into the playoffs structure? Like Alvin said you know. They played forty four games without him. Brandon Ingram the all star. He played most of those games at power forward. Without Zion, but once I came back. He only missed one game, and they have a stretch for by the name of Niccolo Meli. Not Not too hot says Zion has not the game design has I think the average is like seven games seven points a game. He would likely replace Zayn at power forward with Ingram staying in the small force spot, and I. Think drew holiday, said it best. He said you know. As much as it hurts to say, we've done it before in terms of playing without Zayn.

"In the event of you're betraying our purposes to the police. It was signed Lomana. Nira the black hand below that a skull and crossbones niccolo decided to ignore it. He'd never heard of the group either in New York or in his hometown of Naples but then people started visiting him at his apartment friends acquaintances strangers all said that the threats were deadly serious and he had to pay. Niccolo was baffled. Everyone he knew seemed to be involved somehow and the letters kept coming. The threats could be graphic describing heinous acts against his wife and daughter and brutal torture to Niccolo himself soon. Niccolo decided he ought to pay the black hand he appeared the given address with the requested thousanddollars and for a little while the letters stopped. Niccolo and his family thought they were free a few days later a group of men arrived at the apartment who. Niccolo had never met before this time. They wanted three thousand dollars worth more than eighty thousand in today's money or he and his family would be killed but Niccolo didn't have the money. There was nothing he could do but live in terror. He told his family. They couldn't leave the house and he began opening the door with a gun drawn. No matter who was calling. Eventually he'd had enough Niccolo went to the police and they organized a simple sting. They went to the designated drop off. Point and rounded up the culprits. Five men were arrested.
Weird Growth Experiment: What Neil Learned Spending $162,301 on Clothes
"Welcome to another episode of Marketing School. I'm Eric Su and I'm Patel and today we're GonNa talk about a weird growth experiment which is really what Neil learn over one hundred sixty two thousand dollars on clothes so Neil. This is fun episode. Because you're GONNA do most of the heavy lifting so what exactly happened here because he actually wrote something about this a while back as a blog post so tell us what happened so years ago when I was less known house out there hustling much more. I need to go back to doing that. I decided to try to run an experiment. Where if I dress nicer would I be able to charge people more money and make more money so I decided to spend a ton of money on clothes? I probably spend too much and when I would go to business meetings. I'll make shows super nice. You know and see if it would help me. Close more deals in generate more income. Got IT and so. Tell us the process here. I mean the the one hundred sixty two thousand. Did you pick out the clothes? Like what did you do exactly? What kind of clothes were you wearing at in? Pick why she closed or anything like that. I picked me these suits briefcases nice shoes. Think of business attire. But extremely nice business attire things like dull Jacobina Tom for burberry Tana Kashmir little beyond stuff like that Yup. Did you pick up the stuff yourself? I had other people helped me pick out the clothes so what I quickly learned is mainly did this when I was in Las Vegas and I was living there and I lived literally right on the strips. Also close to a lot of the shopping. What I learned is if you spend enough they actually come to your house with racks of Clothes Anna Taylor you. They don't charge you extra for that. They just bring stuff you try it on you get fitted and then once it's done they bring it back to your house and by the way I mean some of that's you still have that look like whenever people see you. It's not like you're wearing suits all the time. It's your worrying. You have a casual look but it's nice clothes correct correct yes well technically now just like a bum. There's nothing wrong with being Bomba. I dress really poorly at this point. I thought you're still wearing nice. You just like a bomb. But you're still wearing nice stuff. Probably might t shirts four hundred dollars so my point is when you look at Neil. He dresses fairly casually. But you can tell. It's still nice stuff. I think that's the point. I'm trying to get people to visualize it a little bit. So maybe let's talk about the before and after results before maybe you weren't wearing as nice stuff and then you started wearing nice stuff like what exactly happened. Can you share any case studies? Yeah so when I go to in person meetings to try to close deals Mike. Closing ratio went up from twenty five percent to forty percent which was huge and innocence brought me over six hundred ninety two thousand dollars in revenue now. That doesn't mean prophecy. That doesn't necessarily mean it pays for the close. It just means I brought in extra revenue and keep them on pitching enterprise big corporations and I think why it worked really well was is because people like all right this guy successful portraying a bigger company and yet. Maybe he's worth the price that he's quoting. I also do believe that its regional base. You know places like Los Angeles Seattle New York Chicago. I think it matters a bit more places like San Francisco. I don't think it matters as much. Yup that's completely true and I mean I mean the typical look as you're wearing like Patagonia vast or something like that and then you're wearing all birds and you're good to go exactly and I also think it depends what phase you are in life because depending on what phase you are in life in business Helps as much in Class A fear. Reid Hoffman Co founder of link Denmark. I don't think it matters what you wear your hundred percent so I mean that's a four point. Three X return to six ninety two on the one sixty two so I guess you know looking at things from a personal experience here. I used to just have a backpack like a normal back. You know meal night. We have a late friend named Brandon who he had kind of a similar back as I do. We look like school kids but once you switched up his backpack to a nice Pat toomey backpack. That's T U M I. He said like everything changed. When you went to route people will compliment on his backpack and then he would get seen a little differently even though he dressed casually. I changed my backpack and I know how to me backpack to and I will say I get a lot of Nice comments about it and people do the first impression how people see you. You'll get one chance to make it right so you know. Even let's say you still want to continue to dress casually that's fine. Maybe you look at the other stuff. Maybe the briefcase right or maybe look at the backpack because you do typically get a couple of nice comments about like Neil the briefcase you have generally. It's always something people talk about right not anymore because I have a child and she plays with the zippers breaks. It and all that kind of stuff in the east you. Yeah makes sense so yeah guys. I don't think you necessarily need to spend one hundred sixty two thousand dollars on clothes. I think we're just saying Zara or any place has affordable clothing. Alex Niccolo unique goes good. I don't know where you go for female codes. Nic Business Attire. It's not necessarily the price it's more so the fit. Yep exactly I that's a really good point you don't necessarily is spent thousands of thousands of dollars if you get a good Taylor. That's probably a little more important on to make sure things look fit. They look a million bucks.

"So many people are talking about income inequality in the United States, and the difference between the owners of the city owes and workers. You give your workers in the restaurant stock options. Guess? It's fairly revolution. Fairly revolutionary path. I guess again you. You have the pleasure of working with a group of people, not in that pyramid structure of neural restaurant kitchen, chef at the top, and there's sort of the workers at the bottom. When you're working more team that, that seems right to, to have them benefit from the success of the restaurant must've been seductive, though, the idea that you could open all these restaurants across the country, Niccolo.

But she definitely thinks she's sexy like from her pictures Niccolo and have an online presence like I don't think. So but her name's Nikola, white mudlark. And what I love about going on the show. Also, as I hope I'm driving traffic to these weirdoes. Oh, you are. I'm looking at right Nikola, white mudlark. She also goes by tied line art because some she makes sometimes makes like fish and stuff out of stuff. She finds glass like and she finds old pipes mainly like clay pipes like in the nineteenth century eighteenth century seventeenth century sixteenth, century, mostly. Okay. We get used. A nervous breakdown. He was good last time fourteen thirteen twelve eleven ten. No. They didn't have to pack. On Europe until like, it was like sixteenth century or something and they so everybody smoked clay pipes and they threw away after one use like these really nice clay pipes. So there are I mean, you gotta figure four centuries of the riddled drunk people all the bars were by the river. So that the river just pretty much has an endless supply of clay pipes. That's the one thing isn't go ahead. Oh, no. I was going to say before. I remember you talking about people who like check the rivers, and like where people river F, and you're really bummed out that they were just pulling up shit like cell phones. Yes. And I and I remember so this to you is more of a satisfying find even if it's a little clay pipe because you just like a little bit of history. I was about to say Nikola is obsessed. She is a little heavy on the clay pipes for me. There are certain other. There are certain other mudlark is that are she seems to only have eyes for Klay like she finds. And she never gets tired of on him. And she does a sort of. And this is not a joke. She tweeted on the edge. She does kind of flirty somewhat sexual thing with pipe extraction. She's like ooh pipe extraction. Oh, she's like, let's see how much pipe is on. That's it just might be a bowl. But let's see how much stem is left. And she pulls it out kind of slow out of Louis long one. I don't like that. I just I don't want any to the plant high clay pipe neck. I wanna see the stuff. Yeah. I just like the idea that she's so focused on pipes like in one of the videos, she may have just been overlooking like an actual like relic. Leeann. That looks like king Arthur's sword. And it's like, but this pipe you this hype. Let's see if there's something in. She's you know, she's a she's a she's an attractive lady. I cross checked it. She's a she's a pretty lady, she's found her knees. Show. Let's hook you up. I find Meg Ryan would be star struck first of all I would be star struck because I've seen her on a screen, right? Did he did he go like audio man? Like, we call Jeff maller at the end kind of because this guy because it wasn't fixed right away, you could still here, but you could tell they didn't want to bother him. Again. You guys know what ASMAR's now ASMAR ASMAR's this thing that that the kids are into and it's where you turn up a Mike really loud, and you do things into this, Mike. So like, you're eating something or you're so there's a Super Bowl commercial for a beer that people are going to see. And it's weird. It's Lenny Kravitz his daughter. I can't think of her first name right now Zoe. Yes is sitting you how did you know that anyway? So she sitting with this. I believe it's Niccolo. Boy, you guys are really easy to impress. We will. Yeah. So she's sitting with this beer, and she's tapping it and whispering very close into the Mike. It's called ASMAR. And so all there's all these videos our videos out now, and they're using it as a that's. This sounds like this sounds like Jay Cutler is trying to get in on this audio. What does that Danny audio since autonomous sensory Meridian response? What is what's the line from one of Adam Sandler's movies where the guy the judge in the debate says we are all dumber for having to listen to that? I like, that's the way I feel right now. It's are you look like the smart guy in your party? You can you can thank me. Once again. Thank you, Mr. Madison. Give us Mr. Madison. What you just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things. I've ever heard it no point, you're rambling incoherent response. You're you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you know, points and may God have mercy on your soul. Okay. Here's Cutler, then this is good stuff. This is about playing in Chicago. She asked him some and questions about playing in Chicago the media toughness the fan toughness, and there's what Cutler said the fans are great renew. If you go out in the streets and talked to the fans. They get it. Like, they stand. What's happening? Very smart. But let me the papers. And I think I hit a time like whenever and kind of newspapers for dying a little bit. And that was kind of taken over. Here's PIN, Fox News. Like all those stations were kind of doing their thing. And and people were just clicking on the, you know, no one's getting the paper. So I think you kinda hit that sweet spot where you know, they they they have to write, you know, whatever they can write to get things out there and get people to read it. Attention. Deserve some wasn't deserve. But that's kind of how it is. The fans themselves were actually not bad. You know, it was mostly the press. Yeah. I think that probably goes for most NFL cities. I mean, the fans like there in they understand. And I think a lot of them are probably they've watched football a bit longer than some of these in general anyway, so. They've ever feel for the game. So like when people would say, I remember readings people being like, he's a motionless like he doesn't care. Did you care? I mean, if I didn't care, I wouldn't have quit, right? Like, I wouldn't have put in the time and the effort it takes to to do it. What do you think people were interpreting like just facial expressions? I mean, I know that after ten eleven twelve like if we had a FOX game like there was basically came rolling dedicated to our sidelines. Our kind of following me and some of the other guys around like just to see how we interact. Got to be a little bit of a thing. But all I really cared about playing football and try to win games. There's jay. But isn't the host Kelly the one that's Chris best friend or something? Yeah. Okay. Exactly is the one who is wanted to date the Canadian or. Yes. So there you go. There's Cutler the I love that. He knows the reason he got the bad headlines because he was here at the time when papers we're dying. They needed clicks on the internet careful, Danny will come in here and get all over you. I love Jay cutting guy. Yeah. He gets Ryan square to spare. I can't spare chance right there. Here's more bear stuff. Someone called into the Stephen a Smith show a bears fan today. Jackie lava, Stephen they talk to me. I just wanted to get your cake on the idea the Super Bowl doesn't contain the two best teams in the NFL. What does that supposed to me? It's supposed to mean that the Chicago Bears are hands down best team, and you can. Give me a favor. Can you? Do me a favor. Shut the hell up. You lost? You scored fifteen points against the Philadelphia Eagles. You are in no position to sit up the call here and make that asinine statement. If you were the New Orleans Saints in your position was they got rob. That would have been a different argument even still been relevant. But you don't get to call up and say that the Chicago Bears who hasn't won a Super Bowl since nineteen eighty five with the best team in football. That's asinine. Hang up. Get some sense and call me back tomorrow goodbye. Jacker cat. He said that Catholic. Yes. No Jack nets crash, but he invited them to come back tomorrow. If the best is I love, Stephen as character of the let me tell you something. Jack, you live Stephen they talked to me, Jeff, I just wanted to get your cake on the idea of the Super Bowl doesn't contain two. Best teams in the NFL. What is that supposed to me? It's supposed to mean that the Chicago Bears are hands down the best team. And you can call me a favor. Favor bears. Let's shut the hell up. You shut your mouth when you're talking to me. Oh, let's get you what to walk for. It's brought to you by swept and sons American steakhouse in the west loop in the Fulton market district. When you go into hawks game hawks are back, baby. "And if I get he seen as as as someone very forms, very politicized, someone who knows to play game, someone like him replacing Niccolo in in is seen, as you know, big jump between the idealistic immune my home and and the reality of him in my co-authored summer, we had got through member that before the summer, he was very unpopular Reggie. But there was the been last this, this bodyguard who decided to play policemen and an during. Building demonstration and fact that Jalen pilots decided not to basically froma solid and five him to stop, but wanted to protect him. That was decided during the summer, that in my own ideal front of my was already crumbling. So this after that is something that makes a man mcchord bit more put more of a politician and less of the Jupiter and president. He wanted to be, you know, with this minor cabinet reshuffle as we've called it, she is there a way that Macron can now heading into the fall, sort of reset the agenda in a in a way to try to rebuild the popularity of that. He's he's been losing quickly. That sets lead the AM. It's September and France. I mean, back to school is very important in the UK and many other countries, but informs is luxuries. Like a new year. That's what we say. We say the start of a new yet. That's exactly what we say. So there's some kind of of wish to start again, do something a bit better and. And that's exactly what he wants to do. A lot of things on the agenda, a lot of difficult things to do and the agenda. But he definitely wants to basically start with a with a better food. Popularity is not at the top of his priorities because he knows he always knew if you want to do something in France, you are bound to going to be in popular. So he knows that. But still he needs to have the support of some of the French of many French people to be able to do what he wants to do. So I think there's going to be until December is going to be a a wish for the for for balancing the necessity of the unpopularity if you wanted to something and the necessity of being at least a bit popular. So you want to basically be trusted if you want to do something that's important in country, you know, he'll always have critics within the opposition parties and and rebuilding sort of trust within the government will be difficult. But what about with the French public? Moving forward into this, this new fall? Well, let's that's. That's. That's the most streaky basically because. Again, some of the thing that he wants to do are not very popular and he this ratio for it's a, it's a small reshuffled, but it's not on Nickelodeon who left his also yesterday we heard that the sports minister decided to leave and the reason why she's decided to leave. Apparently, according to so media is that she had some fiscal irregularities in her. It's Illinois in tax return, and there's always there's already been a few scandals in terms of, you know, fiscal problems in the Macron's government, and that doesn't look good for does many people who need who pay taxes and was difficulty paying taxes. We've the reform of the tax taxes arriving that was from yesterday arriving. I generally that's something that's going to be touching the French publi very, very dearly. So it's it's not exactly the good start for the salt of the as as we say in France of September, but it's not completely. I mean, there's going to be a campaign also to see. Who's going to be the speaker of the house because I was speaker of the house. Now he's a minister d- anchor, Yvonne minister. So there's going to be someone new. There's going to be someone new, basically the importance of the speak of the house inferences a difference than, but in the UK there hold unity was was what used to be too much politicized today. That's the the opportunity for McCall to whether to someone parties bit less politicize shoes. Choose someone who's closer to him was always been one of his ally. And that's really what's going to happen mister false official, who was supposed to be the speaker of the house at the start of the Montana and was not able to be elected because of fiscal problem again. Who is Van Clyburn?
"Van Clyburn was from Texas and in nineteen fifty eight at the height of the Cold War between the United States and Russia. He went to Moscow and won the very first Tchaikovsky competition which made him an instant superstar. When Dan Clyburn got back to the state, he became the only musician ever to get tickertape parade in New York.
The First Superstar Classical Musician.
"When FRANZ Liszt was twenty. He went to a concert by violinist Niccolo Pattani. The first superstar classical musician. Pannonia was as big as any rockstar today, and he put on a great show. He was pale and then dressed in black. He also memorized all his music which most performers didn't do then. And he came up with new very difficult effects on his instrument. List left pregnancies concert thinking. That's what I want to do. So he invented the solo piano recital with the piano facing sideways on the stage so that the audience could watch his hands and face.

"Few businesses can achieve but i i like to always say to our team you know look we raised a lot of money for startup but compared to who are competing with you know we have one thousand the money in one thousand people the like apple let's show the world that we can do and why does somebody nuts you can say speak for andy but you know in general can like you everything jason pointed out you know he didn't need to do this you know what what what's driving everyone you guys it's a bunch of this is no one's in your company sounds like no one's first rodeo by far is bringing a lot of experience to the table but you know i is it exciting to be back to being the kind of the nimble startup again or what what do you think is driving most people there that clearly have a ton of experience in the space already i think it's part of it is andy hasn't sort of irrepressible need to invent the future and fortunately he also has an ability to do so hawks often about you know a i is a nice computing platform he talks about the fact that you know when he sees a problem an opportunity a consumer pain point he you know he generally starts starts a company to solve it and he also has a you know a quite a successful venture fund actually called playground dot global that is also in the space also you know invest in the space and he very much believes that this the next continuing platform shift is not gonna be anastos windows or smartphone just going to be how does a i help a consumer in a world where you have multiple devices that you need to try and synchronize coordinate to make your life easier so i think that fires just take a quick commercial break is we're going up against the kind of a heartbreaker let's take a quick commercial break we speaking with niccolo democracy he is president and ceo of essential very groovy new company we'll talk more about a and all kinds of great stuff when we come back and his.

"And added more choices now think about can all over to the treasury obligation could you need the money in a year and and not only niccolo made nicole upside aerobic i'm thinking arrived at the money that they can and putting the credit for a year ellen or your thought on if the craggy you'll know if it's the right thing to do or not so let's go backwards a little bit mature but he understands we're talking about john said that his son was in in an age based portfolio what does that mean age bases one of the options inside of 539 plan and that allows you to pick an investment that's tied at the age of the the student other child so as they're getting older and closer to meeting those funds for college starts to roll down the amount of of stock in increasing the level of bonds as just another way of having a simplified portfolio instead of having to pick the specific investments yourself in other words the younger the child the more risk that can take the more the should have their money invested in stocks as they age you should reduce the amount of stocks and that's what these agebased portfolios do for you want an automatic basis so brandon is john right and now that his sons a year away from college to start to move the money to cash and get rid of market risk absolutely and i like the way john said he basically said look i'd be willing to give up potential upside over the next year or so to protect against the downside and so nobody knows if a year from now the markets of will be higher or lower but if the safest thing to do is say well i'm going to move to cash in case it lower so investing we've always said whether it's college expenses in this case or buying a house whatever the expenses if you need it in the nearterm have you need.

"He finally comes clean to a reporter however the journalist decides not to correct the record the reporter says when the legend becomes fact print the legend on the legend becomes fact print the legend and in many ways that is marco polo on the legend became fact we will need to examine his life closely in order to separate fact from fiction the fact start in italy in the middle of the 13th century in the republic of venice the coastal northeastern part of the country picture venice today a city of churches in squares crowded architecture and canals it was not much different although centuries ago that's where marco polo was born in twelve fifty four some list his birthdate essop timber 15th while others say it can't be determined so even his birth remain somewhat of a mystery in fact we know almost nothing about marco polo's childhood what we do know is that his father niccolo yes that's right his father's name was niccolo polo was himself a merchant traveler but little marco didn't see his father for the first fifteen years of his life let's because niccolo was abroad travelling and trading some claim that marcos father didn't know he had a son that he got marco's mother pregnant before leaving and didn't find out about it until years later however that's probably not true this was the middle ages men especially of nikoloz station did as they pleased and he could very well have left on his journey and delegated the raising of the child to its mother so niccolo learning that for fifteen years he'd had a son and didn't know is most likely an embellishment to make the story more dramatic.
