"Samaria school closures and Delays Creek and ANAHUAC ISD did call off classes today due to weather the San Louis Past County Park. Out in Brasilia County, they've closed also organizers with the commemorative air force wings. HOUSTON. Air Show canceled today's event because of high winds and low cloud ceilings expected in the area. But the show will go on as planned tomorrow and Sunday over at Ellington airport. There's also a debate tonight Senator John Cornyn and his Democratic challenger Air. Force, veteran MJ Hagar will face off in their first ever US Senate debate around seven o'clock nexstar broadcasting will air the debate live on TV stations across Texas including here in Houston also Dallas El Paso, as well as Midland Odessa Waco Amarillo topics from tonight's Senate debate will include the coronavirus pandemic health care the economy among other topics. The candidates will also respond to questions submitted by voters again early voting begins next week and then finally Craig a new national report card gives the State of Texas in F. For how it teaches climate change a panel of scientists reviewed the science curriculum standards in all fifty states and DC to determine the grades. The Texas Freedom Network Education. Fun just released the report the Texas State Board of Education, is currently revising its science standards Craig. Thank you very much. Eddie. That's news eighty, seven Eddie Robinson and as he said Hurricane, Delta's closing in on southwest? Louisiana meteorologist Maitland's of from Space City weather is here with the latest Matt Good Morning. Good, morning. What is the latest? How how close is the storm now to landfall? Yeah. So we are probably about one hundred miles offshore sixty miles on. Land Fall in Vienna probably sometime late, this afternoon or early this evening currently it's got one, hundred, twenty mile an hour sustained winds Very sly near the center but the story with this storm is going to be that it is a large storm size so that Winfield of tropical storm force winds extends out far from the center that means pretty substantial storm search into parts of the and some minor star search issues here in Texas in the last few days actually really pretty much the entire time we've been tracking the storm it seems to have been closing in on this same locations that got hammered by Laura a couple of months ago Charles Louisiana in particular. So. It looks like it's that is exactly what's coming to pass right? Yeah. Unfortunately. This is GonNa make landfall not very far from where landfall last back in August and you know although it's GonNa be a weaker storm Laura know you've got more vulnerabilities now with all the damage that's occurred from Laura. I still got pilots debris from. People picking up their livelihood it's their. So there's there's a lot of the compounding issues you know with any sort of tropical system in the wake of having a larger one earlier in the season not really a good scene said I'm back here in Texas. The effects seem generally to be about a little bit of high tides maybe a little storm surge for couple of communities right along the coast is that what you're looking at? Yeah yeah, we're already seen some type pedal levels that are probably around will be considered minor flooding with some loss of dunes sort of increases the coastal flooding risk a little bit but this is probably not gonna be any worse than what we saw on the coast during Hurricane Hanna earlier this summer and hurricane or a back in August was during tropical storm beat a last month we had You know probably ties. It would be higher than what we'll see with with delta this time how `Bout here in the Houston area what what if anything should we expect? Love, we got a jury day especially on the east side today. So we'll see some off and on rain at times not GONNA add up to too much I think most areas will end up under an inch, but a few places Far East of Houston probably, east baytown could see maybe one or two inches of rainfall. No flooding We might see a breeze at times. in parts of the area particularly down near the coast. GALVESTON's already gusting over forty miles an hour this morning and that'll probably continue through this afternoon. They could get up as high as maybe forty, five, fifty miles an hour at time. So it'll be a bona fide tropical storm experience for folks on the coast of times meteorologist Atlanta from space city weather. Thanks very much. My pleasure. When Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced this week that he leave it up to county judges to open bars Harris County Judge Lena. Hidalgo said quote indoor massless gassing should not be taking place right now and this applies to bars as well. newsradio mad harrop has been talking to bar owners this week seeking their reaction and has also been trying to get some clarity from the judge on what will actually happen next Wednesday when the governor's order goes into effect Matt, welcome to the program. Craig how are you? I'm well, thanks. So let let's start with. You spoke with Harris County Judge Hidalgo yesterday. Let's hear some of what she had to say at threat level. Red Bar should not be open neither should restaurants they should be having delivery takeout. We should be supporting them in those ways but to the extent that we have a half open half shut situation that's why it's taken. So long to get the numbers to where. They are right now and that's why they still are much higher than in communities have been able to deal with the virus much more sustainably. Okay. So it sounds like she does not think opening bars is a great idea. Did she say for certain whether next week she will opt in or not to to offering the possibility to reopen now correct she wants say. For certain. But that definitely is the feeling. As you said in her statement, it kind of was very vague does saying that indoor masterless gatherings should not be taking place and she used that same word showed again in her talk yesterday and I think that that caused a little bit of confusion. You have to remember how this whole thing went down Craig on Wednesday. three, thirty eight PM Governor Avid Post this facebook video and then at five forty judge, a dog Oh sends out her statement. So there is about a two hour window. I'm told by Angie Burton no the marketing director for the downtown district where bar owners in Houston or actually thinking there might be a chance that they can open for the first time since June. That statement wasn't very definitive but you know when it comes to judge adult gold I I think that it's pretty much consistent her views all the way throughout the pandemic. She's been very cautious She talked about how the positivity rate is still too high. That's why the county's code beater that determines the danger level has not gone red to orange that positivity rate is just about just over five percent right now with still getting hundreds of cases a day. And I think she's looking at like a New York. City, for example, who had are there positivity rate all the way down to one percent as an example for how county should be handling their reopenings when it comes to go cova nineteen and a handling the pandemic I guess we should also stress that this is the reaction that we're getting from most county judge most you're saying, no, we're not interested in doing this there there may be one or two that will. A bar owner you talk to yesterday Greg Perrineau is also a board member for the Texas Bar and nightclub alliance. Let's hear from him on how that group is responding. We are currently recommending to all of our members to get food beverage permit added to their license because that's that's the only lifeline right now for marsh to get open, you know that's that's the only thing that we see as an option right now because at least in the larger counties, because the larger counties are not going to the those county judges are not going to opt him. All right. So he mentions Is something. We've seen a lot of bars are opening as restaurants as long as fifty percent of what they're selling food. That's the way they can approach it and in the light of that, and the fact that so many are doing that does it really matter what's the governor is offering county judges say if bars can figure out a way to.

David Johnson joins us now with the wallstreet wrap up you know some of the water always wear a helmet in his playing days yet sometimes I wonder at said out of stock market and I was the story of redemption today we started a little bit weaker yeah we got a story that floated early on in the day Reuters said that production and so in the in Saudi Arabia oil production he's got a resume to prior levels sooner than expected and that was the sort of double or rally of that there was a sell off in crude and they made no whether to buy stocks or not first the broad market turned around but finally all the averages were positive for the day not big and splashy but again may be significant in that they've overcome that one day of weakness the Dow closed up thirty four points there were three hundred more stocks up and down the nasdaq was up thirty three points the S. B. average was up seven and three quarters meanwhile the economic use of pretty good industrial production was up triple what was expected capacity utilization was strong there is this thing the housing market sentiment index which is really had a home builders field you know they don't feel good they're not gonna build houses right up the fact is the number was higher than expected and showed continued optimism there so we like that crude again a reversal damn six percent down three dollars seventy one cents that's West Texas Brent crude was down seven percent gasoline fell five percent and just for good major natural gas fell back one percent gold down a dollar thirty eight fifteen ten twenty and the ten year rates fell back a little bit one point eight one percent so we'll see maybe it's back to normal so we got a fistful of earnings coming here after the close watch for those but so far so good a nice turn with all three of the averages closing higher on the day the Dow was up thirty four points tonight six twenty of the CEO spotlight hi what I think is an absolutely remarkable story in a period of twenty. two years I would say only twenty two years Perry soak has taken this little little small media company and with that acquisition that was approved yesterday by the Federal Communications Nexstar broadcasting Nexstar media now based in Irving. is the largest broadcasting company in the United States of America one hundred ninety seven stations over one hundred markets New York Chicago Los Angeles and finally a station in Dallas mazing yeah I mean it is a remarkable story anyway party soup our guest tonight David Johnson news radio today Carol that sounds good David thank you so much you've got problems along.

"Was about more than just for pregnancy. She felt there was something. He wasn't saying Britney is black and she felt like her boss didn't see her as someone white viewers would relate to I think it really comes down to who. They wanted the viewers to be in. I don't think that they saw me a black woman. You know, that's a mom. That's their target demographic. Even though I'm the morning anchor. I don't know that really was the target demographic for for the viewership of who they wanted their viewership to be and it it was clear every day when we would pitch stories about race Jackson Mississippi's population is more than eighty percent. Black and more women than men watched local TV news in the US. So Britney did reflect the potential viewers in Jackson, even if as she. Says her boss didn't agree. This tension wasn't new to Brittany for anything's her boss feud her as a problem, even before she got pregnant because she wanted to cover the black community. She had arrived in Jackson with the track record of covering race. She was a reporter in Saint Louis, and she made her name by being one of the first reporters on the scene covering the shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri. Just went on camera. He just said let the officer involved in the shooting with not aware that Mike Brown was a potential suffer six AM this morning. We're learning that police departments across the nation are bracing for large stray shoppers at forty. We just found out just minutes ago. Hopefully, there will be new details. Mike Brown case. I will keep you updated. She followed the story for mumps in one award for her coverage Britney wanted to keep covering those stories about race in the black community at her new job that kind of coverage was part of the reason she was hired, but she had trouble. Getting those stories may. Made she pitched a story about black fraternities and sororities in the community. But it was rejected. She wanted to do a story on the lack of state support for historically black colleges and universities that also didn't get the green light. So Brittany was already at odds with her bosses, and then she got pregnant was led to more friction. She got to do some pieces she cared about. But a lot of her other stories sounded more like typical local news, fair Brittany. A good time. It'd be a lot of whiskey there. Maybe some lawmakers in Washington DC decide to have a snowball fight after a fourth. No Easter Mississippi weather. There's gonna be a great week. It's somebody credentials really was one of the reasons why they considered me for the job. But I don't think they took into account the type of reporter that I had become now the way that I'm reporting has changed. I'm digging deeper into topics. I'm investigating things that people really aren't talking about get. And we're Mississippi Mississippi is a black and white state still all of this. 'cause a lot of stress for Britney arguments with management getting pushed aside for opportunities being anxious about how she looked not being able to investigate the story. She felt were important. She blames stress in part for what happened next a week after a blow up with one of her bosses. She went into labor five weeks early. Her newborn son's lungs were underdeveloped, and he was whisked to the intensive care unit. She didn't get to hold him right away. So that initial bond the mom gets with her baby. And just like you're finally here in late to hold him and have him into level. I didn't get that when Britney went into labor prematurely as a black woman, Mississippi, here's what she was up against black women have worse maternal health outcomes than white women. Researchers found that stress and racism are linked to those outcomes lack babies have the highest infant mortality rates among any racial group in the US on top of that Mississippi has the highest infant mortality rate is not only the baby that faces. Danger. African American women are also three to four times more likely to die from pregnancy related causes than white women. Pretty went back to work seven weeks. After her son was born even with her new reality at home. She made herself TV ready. She lost a lot of weight quickly. She says she felt the need to starve herself to fit in one thing. She wanted to do differently. However was her hair as a black woman. It takes at least two hours to achieve the straight hair the standard for TV newscasters at night. She went wash deep condition blow dry and rapid before going to work. Then came the hot comb implant iron. She has to be a work at two thirty A M doing all of that always been a lot. But now she had a tiny infant to take care of on top of that. So she started to wear her hair naturally on air to save time. Look was tidy feminine. She wore her hair implants, like a crown around her head soon, though, a manager said her hair was unprofessional, and it was becoming a problem for viewers when black women wear their hair naturally. They're often told it's just not right for the office. There are other issues that made life hard as a new mom. She needed a place to pump breast milk. She was told she could use a storage closet. But the stories closet was only unlock during normal business hours. But her shift basically start in the middle of the night and she needed to pump every two hours. She began to feel like she was losing her fight for equal treatment. If eventually she felt an internal complaint for discrimination in later filed a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity commission under title seven against her employer. Nexstar broadcasting Inc. Her stations parent company a month later Britney was fired. The company said it was for excessive absenteeism she had used her time to take care of her ailing grandfather. But she thinks it was because of her complaint. So she filed a second EEOC complaint for retaliation, the EEOC is investigating her claim, but hasn't suit next are in an investigation doesn't necessarily mean they will next door declined to be interviewed for this podcast. But in January WJ TV in next star. At least a statement after Britney went public with her story and said her employment was terminated because she didn't fulfill. Bill, her contractual responsibilities after exhausting all available leave time as for britney's allegations of discrimination. They said we stand by our decision to terminate MS Jones employment and vehemently deny all other allegations.

"Denton and thirty in Fort Worth. Seven sixteen Noah KLIF, North Texas could be home to the biggest operator of local TV stations in the country with a four billion dollar offer to buy Tribune media. Clayton Neville live with more on Nexstar broadcasting's offer. Good morning Clayton. Good morning, Amy. That's right. And the board of directors for both of these companies next star and Tribune media have approved this deal. And now it just needs approval from the FCC for shareholders and regulators. So it looks like this thing is going to go through sometime in the second half of next year. But it would make next star the largest TV company in the entire Dacian based right here in Texas, and this goes through the right way for next door as they anticipate they'll have over two hundred stations. Zack going to translate in any way to a lot of new jobs there in Irving or just a just a new corporation there. I think just the growth of the company next door has been more successful by the year over at Irving. And it's continuing to be that way. Obviously, this would be a big time acquisition for them. I spoke with the CEO Perry silk of next door yesterday. And he said that the ultimate goal is to get bigger and bigger. He says size is the big thing when it comes to this industry and competing with places like Amazon Netflix. Streaming devices and things like that. So he says that they're going to try to a choir as many stations as they can to grow into a media conglomerate and right now, it looks like next door is well on its way again, this would make it the biggest TV media company in the entire country. I know Sinclair broadcasting tried to marry Tribune media and that that deal went south. And now they're still litigation because the government wanted to. The government was concerned that it would be too big. Yeah. That was one of the concerns that didn't pass all of the regulatory concerns that they had there's been a lot of stuff that's still tied up that deal, obviously went south. So this isn't completely done yet. There is some fear that it won't get all the way down is. It's got to get through the FCC. There are worries about the size of this. There's been complaints as one company owning so many TV stations. But according to Perry Sook, the CEO of Nexstar they've dotted all their is crossed all their TS. And they're ready for this transition. All right. Clayton Neville reporting. Live KLIF news time is seven nineteen tomorrow is going to be an official day of mourning. It's a national day of mourning. And it has occurred to me that there are a lot of people who have never seen this kind of reaction due to the passing of a president the last one who died was Ronald Reagan, and he passed in nineteen. Well, I guess it was I guess it was around two thousand I remember a whole parade Washington because he wanted whereas President Bush didn't want that you will see the flags at half staff for thirty days and. The the official day of mourning as Amy said will be tomorrow another postal services going to suspend all regular business activity tomorrow. So you won't be none of the post offices will be open it'll be special package deliveries. However and other than that, no, no mail deliveries and US financial markets will also be closed tomorrow. And the US supreme court is postponing it activities for some banks. I heard maybe closed as well as some other federal courts and federal offices. And I know that state offices here in Texas. Have been cl- will be closed for the same reason. All right. Who's a real American interesting question. And what does it mean to be a real American was one of many questions asked in the latest Grinnell college national poll, and the majority of respondents said believing in treating people equally is what it means to be an American followed by taking personal responsibility for one's actions. Ninety percent of people responded to the question said treating people equally eighty eight percent said taking personal responsibility for one's actions. Eighty-one percent said accepting people of different racial backgrounds and seventy eight percent said religious backgrounds were important traits to be a real American, then as you go on down the list, you find a majority of Americans subscribing to a more narrow view, which who real Americans are those who are born in the United States twenty four percent people who have lived in the United States. Most of their lives. Twenty three percent people who are Christian twenty three percent and people who speak English forty four percent. These are. The responses to you know, essentially, what are these things more than just one thing that require are required to be seen as a real American. So all right. As a parent we're all trying to keep keep keep tabs on our kids and data parties or whatever. Where are we talking about how we track our kids with the life three sixty app? Yeah. So we know where they are every moment of every day. Like three sixty f we should explain for anybody. Who doesn't know? What that is. It just it allows allows families anybody you could be in a family circle circle. And then you can follow that person where they go. Right. Let's see where they are at all time. It's kind of fun. We we were we had that for a while. We were able to follow our family in in southern California unable to go all look Emily's at work and Germany's goofing off at Costco. I mean, you can you can get down to really really precise locations. It's not always one hundred percent accurate. However because my daughter is at school yesterday. And it looked like she was out playing in traffic on the Dallas NorTel. Good of you to have that much faith. Yes. But now there are some parents in Florida who are just they're going a little too far here. They're buying these full on ankle monitor's to put on their kids. Like, they do when they track convicts. Yeah. Florida's Tampa Bay monitoring. It's a company that sells all kinds of security GPS monitoring says we offer a variety of options for parents, whether the simply looking out for their teens overall safety or concern for the team that may be sneaking out of the house at night or at risk of running away companies should also sell chastity belts while they're at it. We provide a bracelet that is near impossible to cut off. Come on people really is that how much faith you've got your kids if a teen is out past curfew. It comes with a ninety five decibels siren. A siren. So no matter where they happen to be stranded on the side of the road with a flat tire. And maybe they've even called you at that point and said, I'm stranded on the side of the road of the flat tire. But a siren is gonna start blaring ridiculous. We don't monitor it all the time. Obviously. But that's one way of getting your kids away from Yahoo. This life three sixty is that the the other thing that we were talking about. I think that's a good thing. It depends on you know, for certain for certain cases, my wife will go out of town on business once in a while or she went on a trip, she went to Ireland, and I stayed home. This is nice to be able to know where people are just in the event that something terrible should happen if she should disappear or something can at least report to local authorities where she was last seen according to this tracking software, but I don't want to keep track of her every blessed minute of her life and vice versa. You have to trust your kid at some point. How are they ever gonna learn? If you can't them. You know what I mean? Right. I mean, if you find out they do something they're not supposed to do. And then you you give them the appropriate punishment. But then you need to move on part of being a parent. I hate to say it, but part of being a parent is worrying and wondering as just what you have to do. You just have to you have to have faith in them. Leave him alone. You can set rules. You said a curfew. It was really cool at our house. And I never had a careful when our son was was still living at home, but he, you know, had enough freedom, and he had a car and everything is all right be home by midnight. And we had a we had the. The house alarm was that there was a control pad at our bedroom. So whenever time he came through there. It started beeping. And wake us up. And we'd know what time it was. All right. He made it he say, I mean, you know, going to the point of I never had a curfew because my mother always felt that if I I'd be rushing to get home. And I get an accident. There was problem or something. I never have used it. We just simply said if you're not gonna be home by the curfew, then hauls call call back then because you had to find a payphone. Yeah. Well. Yeah. Payphone people are saying what's that? You know, you gotta have faith in your kids. And you gotta give them a little more freedom as they get older. And you gotta just trust them. And then the other thing is you have to worry. That's you're always worrying, no matter. How old your kids get seven twenty five? Let's get an update on traffic. Here's Bill Jackson. "To go in statements. Anti witness news spokesperson for house speaker nNcholas Mattiello responded to the governor's remarks with the following the house of representatives acted cautiously and responsibly by passing legislation in June, which protected the taxpayers by removing the state guarantee for the stadium bonds, the one hundred million dollar offer made by Worcester was much more generous than any deal that Rhode Island would ever consider as she said before the governor also said the Worcester. The deal would not have been responsible to compete with. And the governor also told me there are already talks going on with other teams about possibly playing at McCoy. I asked her which teams, and she said it's too early to say way too early to say no story here as of right now, Cathy greg- in today's Providence Journal covering campaign two thousand eighteen says this year's moderate party candidate for governor. His name is William Gilbert. He's very upset. That eyewitness news channel twelve is excluded him from the first televised debate between the major players in two thousand eighteen campaign for governor. That's coming up, by the way in September, the twenty seventh saying that it's it's a disservice to the voters to not present them with all credible choices to choose from. Now, he's picking up from where the cool moose party originator. That's the late Robert Healy he garnered twenty one point four percent of the vote when he ran for the moderate party candidate in two thousand fourteen now, I witness news in partnership with Roger Williams university. They're going to be hosting this hour long debate from seven until eight PM September twenty seven. And it's going to be Governor Gina Raimondo, the incumbent democrat, Allan Fung, the Republican challenger. And of course, independent state rep former state rep, Joe Trillo and Turlough, of course, the state chairman of Donald Trump's two thousand sixteen Rhode Island campaign. So while the other candidates for governor on the ballot. There are others. The vice president over there at I witness news told the journal that the station followed guidelines adopted by his parents company Nexstar broadcasting and deciding which candidate would be invited to take part in the debate. So that a whole bunch of different criteria one of them. By the way, is the fact that candidate has to have an establishment campaign headquarters with a paid for or a volunteer staff, and apparently well at the Mr. Gilbert, the moderate party candidates said to the journalist said while I don't have a dedicated campaign headquarters, we didn't win Bob ran either. Meaning Healy these current rules wouldn't allow Bob helium the debate as he wouldn't have had a headquarters or meet the money raised requirement the money requirements actually against our platform. He says. Disqualifying our party or any party that doesn't wish to take funds? Well, Mr. Gilbert, you just explained the whole thing right there yourself, you know, they're going by next stars rules in terms of how they go about putting their debates in which candidates are allowed to participate because back in two thousand fourteen while you are correct. Mr. Healy was allowed to participate. It wasn't owned by next door was owned at that time by Lin broadcasting. So they might have had a completely different set of criteria. So that's just the way it goes. I mean, it's it's tough. And that's our poll question today should moderate party candidate. William Morgan be included in these televised. Gubernatorial debate, not just a singling this one out all of them should the moderate party candidate William Morgan. Should he be included? And we'll even Gilbert I should say, no, we're gonna I'm sorry about that William Gilbert. Should he be included? Should he be included in all the televised debates? "FM team Scott some lingering drizzle going to get out of here to mostly cloudy day to day, maybe some isolated morning showers, high sixty eight team Chen meteorologist Zachary's forecast. Tomorrow, partly sunny, sixty nine then nice bump in the temperatures on Friday, sunshine, high seventy five by the way official start of fall is on the calendar for Saturday. Now this year's moderate party candidate for governor. His name's William Gilbert. He's upset that I witness news channel twelve has excluded him from the first televised debate between the major players in the campaign for governor. It's coming up by the way on September, the twenty seventh going to be live for an hour long broadcast, and I witness news channel twelve live from Roger Williams university. And he says it's a disservice to the voters to not present them with all the credible choices to choose from. That's according to Gilbert. So here's the deal. It's all done with Nexstar broadcasting's rules for debates general manager over at channel twelve is Pat. Holy told the pro jail the stations following those guidelines so some of the guidelines include candidates who meet some but not all of the criteria. The candidates have received. At least five percent, if a potential primary vote or ten percent of the potential general election vote from an established professionally conducted nonpartisan poll it says here now Gilbert moderate party candidate netted eight point three percent as the moderate party candidate for Lieutenant governor two thousand fourteen had he said this about the rules. He said, I don't have a dedicated campaign headquarters that's part of the rules for next star two and a staff and he said, but when Bob Healy ran and Healy garnered what twenty one point four percent of the vote in two thousand fourteen he said that he'd never headquarters either. Well, I I got to point out to Mr. Gilbert that they're going by next stars corporate rules for debates and the last time in two thousand fourteen they won't earn. They were not owned by next door. They were owned by Lin broadcasting. So they might have had different rules and regulations. So. Just going by what their corporate headquarters with their corporate company. Next star says these the rules and regulations to get in. But still as her pulled question. Do you think the moderate party candidate William Gilbert? Should he be included in all these televised. Gubernatorial debates, what do you think about that? I mean, there's a recognized party right recognised party. And also, you got Healy there who was you know, he founded the cool moose party. Bob Mueller was so much well known much much much better known than William Gilbert this year's moderate party. I'm not sliding Mr. Gilbert, but I'm just saying, you know, Bobby Healy was part of the election process for a heck of a lot longer than Mr. Gilbert has been however, you got to Bob Healy generating twenty one point four percent of the vote when he ran as a moderate party candidate back in two thousand and fourteen. But what do you think about this? You know without rules this chaos. No question about that. And what an hour give enough time for four candidates. Remember, the crowded fields? Oh, the primaries for presidential debates. They are Li we're allowed to get a word in edgewise. And that's the problem with these things. But I mean four people in an hour. I don't know you tell me should the moderate party candidate William Gilbert, be included until advised gubernatorial debates, he certainly thinks he should be. It's a recognized party seven forty NewsRadio nine twenty traffic.

"Substance was reportedly found their pro-jo reports the lockdown at the Cranston facility lifted on Sunday. That's according to the State Department of corrections spokespersons so it finally kind of trickled down into the news cycle Rhode Island state police investigating these Saturday incident. So the investigation continues. However, the lockdown has been waved at the women's unit of the a CI. Well, I see where we're finally going to have a debate Cathy greg- in today's Providence Journal says fresh off her own democratic primary win governor Raimondo's agreed to face GOP nominee, Allan Fung. The mayor of Rhode Island's second largest city. The Republican turned independent Joe Trillo is going to the dance to this is the first televised debate of the two thousand eighteen campaign for governor as you know, both Fung and Raimondo refused to debate their primary opponents on television. The debate will begin at seven pm Thursday September twenty seventh circle it be there. Aloha in the global heritage hall on Roger Williams, universities Bristol campus. That's going to air live on. I witness news on channel twelve I participated as one of the panelists in a channel six debate. That was held there too. It's a great atmosphere, Roger Williams, universities Bristol campus. They have a live audience there. So while there are other candidates for governor on this ballot. The vice president and general manager of eyewitness news. That's Pat, holy. He told the pro-jo that the stations. Following guidelines adopted by its parents company Nexstar broadcasting in deciding which candidates would be invited to take part in the debate. In other words, you gotta gotta make certain criteria to be a part of all this pro-jo says another potential door opener for candidates who meet some but not all of the criteria. The candidates have received at least five percent of the potential primary vote or ten percent of the potential general election vote in quote and established professionally conducted nonpartisan poll who would ever do that. Or a minimum of twenty percent of the actual votes for the same officer or a comparable office in the last four years that's called CYA people. And I understand that you know, you go buy your your company's rules and regulations, and you are all set you have covered your fanny if you know what I'm saying. So my guess is those are the three who will be competing Governor Gina Raimondo. Allan Fung, Joe Trillo competing in the debate. I should say participating the rest will be competing gubernatorial candidate set to debate September the twenty seventh. So that should be interesting. Meantime, surfers are being urged. To be awfully vigilant. After the second shark attack off Cape Cod is your big difference between our waters and those have Cape Cod. Some surfers seem to think. So here's Steve Neilson. From eyewitness news. I Ryan Littman has been surfing Narragansett for twenty five years. Yeah. Yeah. It's it's just really sad. Really sad thing. He liked the rest of us heard the news this weekend that Arthur Medici was bitten by a shark on both legs and well fleet and died. Authorities say he was boogie boarding with friends just a few miles away from where another swimmer was bitten by a shark earlier this summer on the Cape to attacks. I think we could be concerned that it's a dangerous situation marine biologist. Greg skull mall says the sharks follow the seals and the Cape to feed we see these sharks everyday along this coastline. They are. They're in big numbers. And and people have to be vigilant and be aware of it. Yeah. Cape is a different story. You know? It's it's much closer to deeper water. The seals migrate right past the Cape. Leeuwin says local surf. Offers in Rhode Island aren't nearly as concerned as they would be in the Cape in more than two decades. He says he's never seen a white shark in the water here, you can easily go, you know, we're only our many miles fifty miles from the cave white. We must be in the same risk profile is they are. But that's just not the case and school says out on the Cape. They are looking into these shark attacks right now and making sure swimmers are advised that this doesn't happen again. At a Steve Nielsen from eyewitness news that has some pretty frightening stuff. And I'll tell you what you wouldn't have to tell me to temps to stay off the beach there. Wow. So yesterday, Stephen FOSS kit in the Worcester telegram and gazette. So I say the word Worcester. And you know, where I'm going in an afternoon that saw plenty of sports metaphors tossed around the common city manager there Edward Augusta's. He dug deep Monday for the city's celebration of the pending arrival of triple a baseball. I was watching some of the TV coverage of this last night. And it was kind of awkward very awkward. You know, because you you're doing a report about how this big. Celebrations going on in Worcester. But in the same breath, you know, they're pulling the PawSox outta here to go there. So how to cover this thing? You know, I wouldn't have covered it in such a joyous way. If you ask me, but then again, and that's just me thousands to turn off the event which featured several Red Sox legends, including Dwight Evans and Pedro Martinez. So they were rolling out the guns. Also, Jerry Randy was there any looked pretty good which is good news because he's being treated for cancer. So we told you the first televised debate has been announced for the primary winners in Rhode Island's governor's race. And also for the independent democratic incumbent Gina Raimondo to tan Republican challenger Ellen fun. Go at it again along with independent Joe Trillo all set to debate at Roger Williams, university Bristol campus, seven o'clock on September, the twenty seventh debate to be aired on I witness news. Tim white will moderate that Tim does such a great job at these things and these things difficult. They are not easy debate controlling a debate is not an easy thing to do. And this should be an interesting one among those three democrat incumbent Gina Raimondo, the two-time Republican challenger Ellen Fung, and Joe Trillo, who's not a bashful guy. So that should be very very interesting Patrik Andersson of the pro-jo says sexual assault allegations against US supreme court nominee. Brad kavanagh. Have brought very different responses from Senator Sheldon Whitehouse and his Republican challenger in the upcoming election as former judge Robert Flanders White House who sits on the Senate Judiciary committee poised to confirm Cavanaugh said Sunday that the committee should pause to hear the allegations. Brought forward by a professor who says she was attacked in high school by president Donald Trump's pick. And of course, both the accuser and cavenaugh will testify on Monday. Now says here White House says I admire the courage that she has shown in coming forward with a story. Her name is Christine Ford, by the way. She's a professor White House said in a statement this requires a pause at a minimum in the unseemly special interest. Funded rush to put bread Cavanaugh on the court Kavanagh's blanket denial cannot be reconciled with her specific recollections and the FBI needs time to take proper witness statements. He says lying to the FBI an agent in a formal interview is a crime, and it's an impeachable offense. Will thanks for pointing that out. Flanders initially dismissed the allegations against cavenaugh as uncorroborated allegations uncharged and uncomplaining of misconduct. That are quote, not a sufficient basis to delay much less derail his confirmation to the supreme court, but on Monday, the former state supreme court Justice issued a new statement bringing up former democrat Senator Al Franken, but changing his position to say the judiciary committee should here for story. He said the last minute nature of these decade old allegations raised real questions about well. Sheldon Whitehouse new and what he knew it. Now that we know Democrats and reporters have had this information for some time today agree with Senator Graham that the committee should hear directly from the accuser. So the public can. Know, all the facts. And that's what's going to happen. Come monday. So those two are going back and forth. That's going to be interesting race Flanders against White House. I think so after a heated debate in a hearing yesterday in north Smithfield, the town council there has okayed a Nike proposal check this one out and tell me if this makes a heck of a lot of sense to you here is she analyst pseudo from eyewitness news.
